CHAPTER , YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO : I Define emotions and identify the two dimensions
around which emotions are organized. I Diagram the model of emotions, attitudes, and behaviour. I
Identify the conditions that require and problems with emotional labour. I Outline the four components
of emotional intelligence. I Summarize the effects of job dissatisfaction in terms of the exit voice

Job satisfaction, the most widely studied work attitude, is then discussed. We look at job satisfaction
among Canadians, the effects of job satisfaction on work behaviour, and new findings regarding the
relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance and customer satisfaction. The next
section provides an overview of organizational commitment, including the types of commitment,
consequences of commitment, and ways to build affective commitment. Organizational commitment
is strongly influenced by trust and the psychological contract, so the final section of this chapter looks
at the meaning and elements of both concepts. EMOTIONS IN THE WORKPLACE The tragic events
of September 11, 2001, in the United States are permanently etched in our minds. The four hijacked
planes and the collapse of the World Trade Center towers evoked a variety of emotions in people, such
as anger, sadness, and fear. Airline employees particularly identified with these shocking events. We
were torn apart, says Lucie Leduc, a flight attendant with Air Transat in Montreal. We could totally
imagine it. . . . There were flight attendants who couldn t fly for a while; some are still not flying. 2
Lucie Leduc and her co workers at Air Transat experienced the strong emotions associated with the
events of September 11, 2001. Emotions are psychological and physiological episodes experienced

The Discovery Of Antibiotics And Medicine Essay
The discovery of antibiotics is arguably the greatest contribution to modern medicine. The widespread
use of antibiotics along with vaccines had paved the way for the treatment and cure for many of the
otherwise fatal bacteria diseases and this led to a decline in the mortality rates in the mid 20th century.
The use of antibiotics in medicine today to treat diseases have not all been met with positive
outcomes. As a matter of fact, its relative ease of access and abundance has given rise to a major
problem in creating new strains of bacteria that are able to resist our antibiotics today. Such is the case
for a special type of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, a gram positive bacterium with a spherical shape
which in some strains of this particular species has ultimately developed resistance to virtually all
antibiotics we have present today. Staphylococcus aureus is often found on skin surfaces in humans
colonizing about 30% of the human population [1]. They generally are not pathogenic until they enter
inside the body through an open wound or colonize other areas of the body of which they generally
are not found [1]. Staphylococcus aureus commonly cause non fatal skin diseases such as folliculitis,
cellulitis and abscesses however, they can invade the circulatory system and cause a serious infection
known as bacteremia [1,9]. Bacteremia is often common in a hospital setting where patients are
exposed to invasive procedures such as surgeries which allow colonies of S.

A Relationship With A Woman
I was 50 years old and hadn t been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I
looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them without
yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a relationship with
a woman even on non sexual terms was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year old daughter born out
of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been married years before at the
age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife divorced me. I had been in love only
once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I was 38. My wife had been 12 years
younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I m not sure. She wrote me a long letter
each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded. . . . I m not sure when I first saw Lydia
Vance. It was about 6 years ago and I had just quit a twelve year job as a postal clerk and was trying to
be a writer. I was terrified and drank more than ever. I was attempting my first novel. I drank a pint of
whiskey and two six packs of beer each night while writing. I smoked cheap cigars and typed and
drank and listened to classical music on the radio until dawn. I set a goal of ten pages a night but I
never knew until the next day how many pages I had written. I d get up in the morning, vomit, then

Women s Role In The Age Of Reform
The Age of Reform began when many women reacted to the conditions and inequalities of life in the
1820s. Women played a prominent role in the Religious and Reform Movements for many reasons.
The evangelical teachings of the church about female worth struck deep in the hearts of many, and
pushed them to bring their families back to God (Herrera). Women made up a great percent of the
church and their attitudes brought forth a new way of thinking. Though women played a big role in
this part in American history, they still had to face many obstacles along the way. Up to this point in
American history, women were traditionally expected to care for children and watch the household.
Families began having fewer children so there were more resources

The Impact Of Energy
It has been predicted that by 2050, reduction strategies within the passenger transport sector could
result in GHG emissions being cut by up to 38%, while reduction strategies in the freight transport
sector could see GHG emissions reduced by up to 13% (Chunark et al. 2015).
3.3 Energy
Thailand s electrical energy generation is almost entirely produced by conventional thermal means, via
oil, natural gas and coal. The remaining power is generated by hydro, renewables and biofuels (Global
Energy Institute 2013). Thailand s own oil supplies from the Gulf of Thailand have reduced, as such
Thailand has become more reliant on importing oil for electrical generation. Due to the costs of
importing oil, Thailand has been transitioning towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Thai government has stated that this increase will be minimal, with coal powered electrical
generation accounting for 20% of total power generation in 2015, marking an increase by 2036 of 5%
(Ministry of Energy B 2015).
It is difficult to calculate the amount of emission reductions that will be achieved by implementing
30% renewable energy generation and heating by 2036. But it can be expected that as percentage of
renewable energy power generation increases, Thailand s CO2 emissions will decrease. Power
generation from biomass produces between 25% and 50% of the CO2 of conventional power
generation while solar generates even less, between 5% and 10% of conventional thermal power
plants (Schlömer et al. 2014).
Implementing the technologies has already begun and the costs of installation and development is
expected to be reduced as the technologies mature. Tariffs, reduced spending on importing oil and
natural gas and high availability of organic material means these renewable energies will be highly
feasible.
4 Developed Nation Strategies
The strategies a developed nation uses to combat GHG emissions doesn t differ greatly from that of a
developing nation such as Thailand. Developed nations are economically more capable of introducing,
implementing and developing technologies for mitigation, but these technologies are expected to be
readily available to developing nations

The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying
There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the main
idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location and time in
the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in South America, the
story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear message for the audience; Or
if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a vacuum with no reason to act and
develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates
the central idea because it sets the basis for the main theme, the characters who develop the idea and
actions within their environment to reflect the issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of
events, while the central idea is the main thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most.
The Lesson before Dying is a fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To
emphasize the theme, the author set the story in the city where the history of segregation between
races is very obvious. The narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two
parts: whites and blacks. He says: There was a Catholic Church uptown for whites; a Catholic church
back of town for colored. There was a white movie theater uptown; a colored movie theater back of
town. There were two elementary schools uptown, one Catholic,

activities including following the journey of the First Fleet, writing a shopping list of a convict,
singing the Ballad of Botany Bay, reading the identities of the convicts and even create role plays and
improvisations with the class. According to Cohen (2015), children find more meaning and
significance in history when they are able to relate situations to their own lives. Inquiry methods such

Soil Erosion
What is soil erosion? Soil erosion is a natural process, occurring over geological time, and indeed it is
a process that is essential for soil formation in the first place. With respect to soil degradation, most
concerns about erosion are related to accelerated erosion, where the natural rate has been significantly
increased mostly by human activity. Soil erosion by water is a widespread problem throughout
Europe. Soil is naturally removed by the action of water or wind: such background (or geological )
soil erosion has been occurring for some 450 million years, since the first land plants formed the first
soil. Even before this, natural processes moved loose rock, or regolith, off the Earth s surface, just as

Diffuse overland flow. Note the raindrop impacts
Firstly, if rain arrives too quickly (i.e. with too high an intensity) for it to infiltrate: the runoff which
results is then known as infiltration excess runoff, or Hortonian runoff. Secondly, runoff may occur if
the soil has already absorbed all the water it can hold (i.e. because it is fully saturated, or if the soil is
frozen). Runoff which results from this situation is known as saturation excess runoff. As runoff
moves downhill, it is at first a thin diffuse film of water which has lost virtually all the kinetic energy
which it possessed as falling rain. Thus it moves only slowly, has a low flow power, and is generally
incapable of detaching or transporting soil particles.
The micro topography (i.e. small scale pattern of irregularities) of the soil s surface tends to cause this
overland flow to concentrate in closed depressions, which slowly fill: this is known as detention
storage or ponding . Both the flowing water, and the water in detention storage, protect the soil from
raindrop impact, so that rainsplash redistribution usually decreases over time within a storm, as the
depth of surface water increases. There are, however, complex interactions between rainsplash and
overland flow. If rain continues, the increasing depth of water will eventually overtop the micro
topographic depressions. Overland flow that is released in this way is likely to flow downhill more
quickly and

The Rational Model of Policy Decision Making

Botswana) Instructor: Prof G. S Maipose 2001

arguments to make and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his or her goals, values, or objectives11.
The outcome of this modus operandi is a rational decision that is, one that most effectively achieves a
given end. In short, it optimizes; it is the best possible decision 11. Rational decisions bring about
either large and basic or limited changes in public policies. Perhaps it is important to note that these
decisions are more often than not in line with the ideals and aspirations of elites, who are happy with
the political situation as it stands. Thus, this contributes (I submit) to the wide usage of the rational
model within the fraternity of management policy and decision making.

Selected Essays by Lefoko O. Molebatsi (2001) Despite heavy criticism of the rational model, some
authors continue to view it as an ideal. An idealized model of rational policymaking process consists
of a „rational individual‟ undertaking the following sequential activities: 1. A goal for solving a
problem is established 2. All significant consequences of each alternative strategy are predicted and
the probability of those consequences occurring is estimated. 3. Finally, the strategy that most nearly
solves the problem or solves it at least cost is selected12. 4. All alternative

Analysis Of Glengarry Glen Ross By David Mamet
Everyday people use speech to relay their thoughts and feelings. Some people s jobs revolve around
speaking to others to convince them that they have a better idea for their investments and that they
know what is best for the customer. Such jobs include those of salesmen. Their sole job is to convince
their customers that it is in their best interest to buy their product that they are trying to sell. The film
adaptation of the play Glengarry Glen Ross written by David Mamet, illustrates how salesmen are
able to convince other groups of people that they know what is in the best interest of their customers
by each salesman s particular word choice and speech. In the movie, the customers are often weak
men that are not able to stand up for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the beginning of the film, Blake comes into Premier Properties and unleashes himself
and goes off on each of the salesmen. He makes them question their own actions specifically by the
way he speaks. At one point, Levene is trying to make a cup of coffee and Blake mandates him by
saying, Put that coffee down. Coffee s for closers only and Levene listens (Glengarry Glen Ross).
Later in the same scene, he is able to get Aaronow, Moss, and Levene s attention by telling them that
they are all fired and the only way to get their job back is by earning it. Blake is an expert in engaging
others and makes them listen to him no matter what it takes. He constantly uses profanity to
emasculate the salesmen, which gets his points across that he means business. As another example,
Roma is also able to persuade others by weakening them and making them feel as if he is the only one
that can help. Roma is able to get one of his customers, Lingk, to close a deal by first getting him
drunk, and then follows it up by appealing to Lingk s emotions and being personable. Roma also uses
literary devices such as, repetition and rhetorical questions in order to convince him to buy the
property:
Stocks, bonds, objects of art, what are they? An opportunity. To what? To make money? Perhaps. To
lose money? Perhaps. To indulge and learn about ourselves? Perhaps. So fucking what? What is it?

Median Voter Theorem Essay
Question 1: The most central prediction in the median voter theorem is that the voters opinion is on a
linear spectrum, while this is quite applicable in the US it is often not case in many other countries as
the two party system is not as prevalent. The theorem also predicts that voters see their utility as single
peak spectrum, with only their most preferred utility at the top (The Median Voter Theorem and its
Applications, Joshua Poulette, p. 2). These two are very central in determining the efficacy of the
median voter theorem and must always be true for it to be accurate. It is basically based around the
assumption that all voters have a one highest priority, and that they are given two options when voting
on a single issue at a time. Also, that there are no ideological or financial pressure or incentive in play,

for people who which marry two or more of their significant others. Essentially polygamous
matrimony is currently illegal in the US. Putting this to the test of Dworkin s conditions for justifiable
paternalism requires checking it with a lot of parameters. Firstly, I would say this is very much a
moral question that is mostly reliant on how the people voting and legislating the issue regard their
ideology and religion. This also makes it an example of impure paternalism, since the people deciding
this can have a skewed opinion given their personal bias. Seeing as this does not affect anyone but the
people involved it has truly no effect on society at large, apart from the need to draw up some new
laws regarding legal issues and taxation for polygamous unions, I cannot see any reason for this being
up to the individuals

Growing Up In The Catholic Church
Growing up in San Francisco, religion wasn t a part of my life, or majority of people s lives. Only one
of my friends grew up religious and even then it never defined her. Moving across the country and into
a southern college town, I ve discovered what it really means to be religious and how devoted people
are to their beliefs. I ve always been interested in religions that seem foreign to me like Buddhism or
Hinduism. However, I decided to devote my time in learning about Catholicism. Catholicism began
when Jesus lived, died, and resurrected. The Catholic Church was established and built by the twelve
apostles. In the first three hundred years of Christianity, Christians were extremely persecuted in the

priest spoke with a very soothing and calm voice. In Christians in the American Empire, Vincent D.
Rougeau stated that Catholicism sees the human person as formed in the image and likeness of God
the imago Dei and at the same time views the person as inherently social, create to live in community
with others, and flourishing only in that context . One of the most important ideals of the Catholic
Church is social teaching. Their goal is to create a more just and holy society even among modern
issues. Something that really fascinated me was the way the priest was able to relate social problems
of modern world to the readings from the Old and New Testaments. The Church proclaimed, Any kind
of social or cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social
conditions, language, or religion must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design .

Analysis Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin
A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both
authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in
order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role
of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the
oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction
and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young,
hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos,
readers can view both short stories in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Ray Bradbury s August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , The McClellan family home seems
equipped with every imaginable technological innovation, but it fails to provide more human qualities
like love (Devers). This excerpt is an example of how the author expresses personification in this short
story. The house has each and every technical tool that it needs to function, yet, it does not have the
love of its owners any longer. Along with personification, Bradbury uses the rhetorical mode of pathos
to demonstrate how the house continues to carry out its daily functions even though the surrounding
society has suffered. An example of how Bradbury attempts to capture the reader s emotional psyche
is, In the nursery the jungle burned. Blue lions roared, purple giraffes bounded off....Ten more voices
died... . This allows readers to feel sorry for the perishing animals that are dying in the burning house.
As Bradbury uses personification and pathos to engage readers into the short story, readers can
emotionally relate and visualize a house that continues to function without a society. In The Ones Who
Walk Away From Omelas written by Ursula Le Guin, a society is depicted as a care free utopia. In this
society lies the protagonist. In the beginning of the short story, Le Guin asks the reader question such
as, How describe the citizens of Omelas .

Examples Of Enjoyment Of Life
I personally disagree with the statement. I believe that there remains a widely held misconception that
the enjoyment of life must be accompanied by youth, vitality and energy. In order to substantiate my
arguments, I must insist on a more profound elucidation of what is meant by enjoyment of life, in
order to demonstrate how old people are actually more capable of succeeding in these pursuits
compared to young people.
Firstly, old people have the means to enjoy life more than young people do. Young adolescents,
teenagers, and perhaps young adults like myself rarely have the financial means to fulfill the desires
we wish to pursue the most. For example, it has been my entire lifelong dream to travel to Europe and

parents and/or guardians, and as such I am unable to fully enjoy life the way I want it. Old people, for
example, like my grandparents, have already fulfilled most of these responsibilities and obligations.
They have evidently finished their schooling, are retired, and are no longer constrained by family. At
this point in their life, my grandparents have the full liberty to pursue whatever dreams and goals they
desire. My grandfather, for example, has managed to write and publish a book, an accomplishment he
holds immense pride in. Twenty years ago, my grandfather would not have been able to achieve such
goals, for he would have been preoccupied with his work and young children. In the same vain, my

one is the Personal Competencies and the other is Social Competencies. By understanding these
competencies, employees gain the knowledge of how to create a better workplace not just for those

Live well and prosper!
Self Management is the ability to recognize our own strength and weakness as well as how to best
manage it to our advantages. The one person that served as an example of this is Bill Gates, founder of
Microsoft once said Unlike some students, I loved college. However, I felt the window of opportunity
to start a software company might not open again . It is a prime example of self awareness and self
management that guide or facilitate reaching goals as well as the initiative of readiness to act on
opportunities. Because of his self awareness of his abilities and the opportunity, he later becomes a
richest man on earth.
The other competency of the Emotional Intelligence is the Social Competencies. Social Competencies
include the two main components which are Social Awareness and Relationship Management which

Rousseau s The Social Contract
The following texts, Rousseau s The Social Contract, Marx s Private Property and Communism,
Estranged Labor and Money, all differentiate between a general will, and a more personal, individual
will. However, Rousseau s and Marx s theories of a general will, or collective being have
discrepancies in both the origin and implications of general will and individual will. Rousseau defines
general will as a collective desire to advance society towards a common goal. However, Rousseau
warns that ignoring the general will and pursuing one s own selfish personal will is dangerous not only
for an individual, but can also ultimately lead to the destruction of the body politic. Marx also
discusses a concept similar to Rousseau s general will, however ... Show more content on

Additionally, Rousseau believes that self interests are often detrimental to the common good, stating
that each individual, as a man, may have a particular will contrary or dissimilar to the general will
which he has as a citizen. His particular interest may speak to him quite differently from the common
interest: his absolute and naturally independent existence may make him look upon what he owes to
the common cause as a gratuitous contribution... The continuance of such an injustice could not but
prove the undoing of the body politic. (Rousseau, 194 195). It is evident that Rousseau is aware of
humankind s selfish desires stemming from a personal will, and he believes that if individuals begin to
ignore the common will and instead act upon their personal desires and will, that it will often lead to
pandemonium. This chaos is likely to destroy any Republic, as conflicting and selfish ideals will cause
individuals to lose sight of the general will, leading to the collapse of a coexisting society. Rousseau,
however, does not address how individual will originates, a point that Marx discusses in length in his
Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts.
The epitome of the detrimental effects caused by one acting purely on personal will can be seen in the
film, American Beauty. In this film, Lester Burnham can be seen acting upon his personal will and
ignoring the collective good in his

manias and depressions had violent sides to them. Violence, especially if you re a woman, is not
something spoken about with ease. Being wildly out of control physically assaultive, screaming
insanely at the top of ones lungs, running frenetically with no purpose or limit, or impulsively trying
to leap from cars is frightening to others and unspeakably terrifying to oneself. In blind manic rages I
have done all of these things, at one time or another, and some of them repeatedly; I remain acutely
aware of how difficult it is to control or understand such behaviors, much less explain them to others.
(Jamison 120). A popular show currently on television that depicts a realistic and accurate account of
bipolar disorder is Homeland. The award winning Showtime cable TV series starring Claire Danes as
Carrie Mathison, a CIA agent with bipolar disorder, tells a spellbinding story of espionage and
counterterrorism in the middle and Far East, but also accurately depicts mental illness as it occurs in
real life. // Her character portrays volatility and unpredictability that often

The Count Of Monte Cristo Figurative Language
Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice. Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged. Samuel
Johnson. In The Count of Monte Cristo, a young man gets framed for something he didn t do. After he
escaped from prison, he decided to do the unforgettable. He sought revenge. The Count of Monte
Cristo, and Revenge , each author employs details and figurative language to convey the idea that
revenge allows one to feel vindication which is sometimes necessary even if the results are inhumane

The Price We Pay Matte Ross Quotes
The Price We Pay You must pay for everything in this world one way and another. There is nothing
free except the grace of God. You cannot earn that or deserve it claims Mattie Ross at the beginning of
True Grit by Charles Portis. What could Mattie be conveying by this? At the beginning of True Grit,
when Mattie embarks on her journey to capture Tom Chaney, we assume this means vengeance for the
murder of her father, Frank Ross, but does it change as the story goes on? Mattie Ross is hell bent
upon justice for her father, but by the end of the book we see the significance of paying for revenge.
Mattie is an intelligent, tough, independent, and strong willed 14 year old girl that comes to Fort
Smith, Arkansas to take care of the business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately there was a price to pay for exacting vengeance on Tom Chaney. Not only do Rooster and
Little Blackie reveal this, but additionally, so does Mattie. Miss Ross is a prime example of what it
means to answer for your actions. Although Mattie seems content with her life, it can t quite be
ignored the subtle hints of her second rate life. She claims that she is content It s true that I love my
church and my bank. What is wrong with that? (224) Miss Ross displays what she finds important in
her life. But she eludes us to believe that she simply is content when truly she is denying her woe.
Mattie proclaims, A woman with brains and a frank tongue and one sleeve pinned up and an invalid
mother to care for is at some disadvantage... (224) . She explains her disposition in the subject of a
loving husband; she insinuates that she would have liked to have a mate but that she was not as
fortunate as other women. Mattie loses her arm because of her stubbornness and grit , if she had
restrained her need for settling the scores and not departed on the endeavor to end her vendetta against
Chaney, she would still have two arms. Ultimately, her future suffers for her all consuming need of

My Wishes In My Life
Every week would be something new: good or bad. As I was growing up at the end of the week my
grandparents, whom I had lived with, would make my sister, brother, and me milkshakes and we
would sit outside, look at stars, and talk about how our past week went. When it was occurring I had
just thought of the delicious milkshake that I would enjoy and the wishes I would make, but I had
recently realized that is what laid the foundation of who I am today.
Typically we would always make the milkshake first, with our choice of our favorite ice cream. Then
we would sit outside and look for shooting stars. When we found a shooting star we would make a
wish. My grandma always asked us about what we had wished for, without giving our exact wish we
would elaborate on what it was about. For my wishes, it would always be about my dad or my mom.
At the time my dad was in prison and before he had gone away he was the adult I was closest to. It
was always hard for me to talk about these wishes. I still have the memories of my dad first being sent
to jail and talking to him through a glass window; also taking a trip to the prison, where I learned that
you are not allowed to wear jeans with buttons while visiting someone, these in which I will forever
have engraved into my mind. On the other hand, we did not live with my mom because she was
working in order to provide a better life for us, her children.
No matter how hard the topic would be my grandma always tried to make it better. She

masters of public health in the second semester I enhanced my knowledge related to leadership the

laws or regulations. More importantly, I have gained knowledge about the leadership qualities and its
skills that is mandatory as a good leader. Although, the advocacy campaigns presentations
significantly motivate me about how to work effectively and actively within a team as a leader and
how to guide the team members and provide the directions for the advocacy campaigns. Besides this, I
will talk more about the professor Jo Lind lecture related to reflection activity and Ms. Alexandra
Bhatti lecture about public health advocacy from these two parts of the health leadership I have
learned a number of things and enhanced my understanding about leadership. Initially, I improved my
learning from Professor Lind assessment in which I have learned that reflection is important for
quality, accountable practice and essential for ongoing professional learning. In addition, I have
learned more about the complex adaptive system while doing reflection activity in terms of difficult
systems and how these systems may handle in difficult situations. I personally recognize that the
complex system knowledge is mandatory for learning the health and disease and for managing the

Hole In My Life By Jack Gantos
His dreams of college and desire to write became a living image for Jack Gantos. All he wanted to do
was become a successful writer and pursue his dreams, he didn t expect to make mistakes that would
ruin his desire to write and dreams of going to college. Jack had made many mistakes in the memoir
Hole in My Life however, he didn t let that toxic environment ruin his goals and desire to become a
writer one day. Although many people may not agree, I believe that it is likely for one to make
mistakes, but harder for one to redeem from them. Redemption is necessary in order for mistakes to be
interesting. Like any book about mistakes and redemption, the mistakes are far more interesting to
read about and write about, as said by Jack Gantos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Spotty Handed Villaesses By Margaret Atwood And Doris...
Speeches aim to manipulate the audience through powerful rhetoric at the expense of substance.
To what extent does this statement align with your view of the speeches set for study.
Rhetoric is the practice of communication that persuades, informs, inspires, or entertains target
audiences in order to change or reinforce behaviors, beliefs, values or actions. It is a linguistic
technique designed to have a persuasive or remarkable effect, but it is often said to be lacking in
meaningful content; but in comparison with powerful rhetoric, and my view of the speeches set for
study it is manifest that the use of rhetoric is used to enhance the substance of each speech.
Due to the engaging rhetoric used within the speeches Spotty handed villainesses by Margaret Atwood
and Doris Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize it is evident that the use of rhetoric is used to
enrich the substance of each speech.
The two speeches both advocate for common inequalities that effect the whole world.
The founding origins are a result of the worlds growing disparity of people s rights across society.
Atwood s Spotty Handed Villainesses aims to fight the oppression of women in society and the need
for equal rights whereas Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize highlights the gulf between first
and third world countries. She discusses inequality through the importance of education and access to
books. Both speeches stem from the importance of literacy and how the written world can

Colleges Should Be Required Acceptance For College Students
Max is a smart student, she played sports, joined lots of clubs, and volunteered in her local
community, but online was another story. Online Max would post racy pictures of herself and
comment rude things on other peoples pictures. She even cyberbullied. She was applying to Howard
University and her application looked perfect. 15 weeks into the admission process, she got a letter
saying, unfortunately she did not get in. The admission staff at Howard University knew that they
would have liked Max as a student there, but her digital footprint was terrible. This isn t the only time
that this has happened to students. Many students applying into college are being kicked to the curb
for the things that are being posted online. A perfect G.P.A doesn t mean a guaranteed acceptance.
Colleges should deny acceptance for things prospective students post online because everything
students are doing now is cumulative and colleges are looking for students to help their campus not
hurt their campus. Colleges should look up their prospective student online because from the

Fossil Fuels And Renewable Energy Essay
Finding energy sources is an issue that polarizes scientists, politicians and citizens alike. The most
critical points of this debate are at fossil fuels and renewable energy. Energy efficiency is arguably the
most dire concern facing the planet, because it significantly impacts all areas of everyday life.
Common ground can be found in this controversy because both parties do agree that humans have a
responsibility to future generations. That responsibility is to preserve the resources of the Earth, while
offering this generation energy that is affordable and accessible.
Many people contend that fossil fuels, while being the most cost effective source of energy, have
detrimental effects on the environment. Others argue that fossil fuels have little negative
environmental impact and that producing alternative energy is too economically prohibitive to be
feasible. In 2010, the Gallup Poll conducted a national poll that found half of the Americans surveyed
favored expanding energy production via fossil fuels even if it harms the environment. This was the
case in nearly every major demographic subgroup, although self identified liberals remained constant
in supporting environmental protection as the higher priority (McDermott).
Of these two types of energy production, fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal make up about ninety
percent of the world s energy usage. Nuclear power takes up five percent of this equation, with the
remaining renewable energy resources splitting

Research Paper On Venus Transit
The transit of Venus, seen from Earth as a small, dark disk crossing over the sun, is one of the rarest
astronomical events to ever witness. If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it
again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the
planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn
more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to
figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to
capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope

Wiccans Goddess
Although some Wiccans focus on particular gods from particular world mythologies, Wiccans may
worship many gods and goddesses by many different names. Most worship some form of the Great
Goddess and Her consort, The Horned God. Such duo theistic forces are often conceived as
embodying complementary polarities, not in opposition. In some traditions worship of the Goddess is
emphasized, although in others the Goddess and God are seen as complementary co equals. The
Goddess and God may be seen as associated with certain things (such as the Goddess with the earth or
moon, God with sun and wildlife, etc.), but there are no hard and fast rules. Some traditions worship
the Goddess alone while others see Divinity as essentially beyond human understanding, ... Show

Some Wiccans conceive deities as similar to thought forms.
According to current Gardnerian Wiccans, the exact names of the Goddess and God of traditional
Wicca remain an initiatory secret, and they are not given in Gardner s books about witchcraft.
However, the collection of Toronto Papers of Gardner s writings has been investigated by American
scholars such as Aidan Kelly, leading to the suggestion that their names are Cernunnos and Aradia.
These are the names used in the prototype Book of Shadows known as Ye Bok of Ye Arte Magickal.
For most Wiccans, the Lord and Lady are seen as complementary polarities: male and female, force
and form, comprehending all in their union; the tension and interplay between them is the basis of all
creation, and this balance is seen in much of nature. The God and Goddess are sometimes symbolized
as the Sun and Moon, and from her lunar associations the Goddess becomes a Triple Goddess with
aspects of Maiden , Mother and Crone corresponding to the Moon s waxing, full and waning

Anna Of Byzantium Quotes
One of the biggest questions about someone s personality is if they would make a good leader. A great
book regarding this question is Anna of Byzantium, by Tracy Barrett. This book is based on a real girl,
Anna Comnena, who lived in royalty in the Byzantine Empire. Anna Comnena was the first born of
Emperor Alexius Comnenus and Empress Irene Ducas. In the book, Anna was the heir to throne of the
Byzantine empire and was living happily with her younger sister Maria when her troublemaking
brother John was born. After a series of mishaps, Anna s evil grandmother Anna Dalssenna convinced
Alexius to demote Anna and give her title of heir to John, who did not deserve it. Anna plotted
revenge, but got caught and was sent to a convent to spend the ... Show more content on

This concrete detail is evidence that Anna was passionate, because she had a very strong desire, or
passion, to overthrow or get rid of her brother and take the throne, which was rightfully hers. Readers
might argue that Anna was not passionate, but indifferent, as shown by, Each morning I rose from my
bed and attended services, Masses for the repose of my father s soul. I resisted the idea that he needed
any intercession to enter heaven, but participated as was expected of me (Barret 176). To some this
quote might show that Anna did not care for her father and had no reason to take the throne. However,
that is proven wrong in this quote, Under his guidance, I studied for hours every day, bending over the
books, with all different styles of writing, until my eyes glazed and my head swam...I would force
myself to read more until I was so weary that when I finally tumbled into bed, Sophia had to undress
my motionless form, and everynight I would sleep a deep, dreamless sleep (Barrett 122). This counter
evidence validates the fact that Anna was passionate and determined, and worked hard to surpass her

The Internet And The Internet
The internet has made up many aspects of our lives. Sometimes these aspects aren t good, and
sometimes they aren t bad. Everytime you turn on your computer what s the first thing that you open
up? The majority of the time the internet browser is the very first thing you open up. Whether it s to
listen to music, watch a movie, or to online shop. Internet is an everyday part of our lives, for college
students it is essential to look at our grades. For teachers it is how they post our grades and the
majority of our homework assignments.
If someone asked you with all the syfy movies you watch how many of them are robot based movies.
Your response would most likely be a lot of them. In the world today it s a real fear that not just
Americans but humans have that technology will take over the world. With every technological
advance we take there is always a group of people looking for ways to get through back doors. Back
doors lead to the dark web which is where people deal illegal drugs, sell body parts and people. This is
a prime example of that people repeat themselves time and time again through the generations. In
more recent years we have seen that in the automobile industry the jobs became more automated the
workers went on strike. They didn t show up to work and refused to do so for days. This shows that
even though we have been through a situation once we don t learn from our mistakes. We read many
articles the common factor through all of these articles is the

The United States permitted Israel to have satellite images while the Yom Kippur War and during the

America has been a great benefactor to the state of Israel. However, America should not support Israel
unconditionally because it generates deep hatred from Arabs and that the government of Israel has
shifted away form the democratic ideal and beliefs of America. The unconditional support of America
towards Israel has caused Arab terrorist groups to hate and kill citizens of the United States. Also
Israel s has turned away from a democratic ideal that grants equal rights to all citizens.
Powerful and influential Arabs have a deep desire to kill and destroy America because of the current
unconditional support America gives to Israel. For example, Hezbollah, a very capable terrorist group,
hates America because of America s support to Israel. In 2002, Muhammed Husayn Fadlallah, a

Probably the most dramatic advance was the bread machine. This product has revolutionized the way
we bake bread. The bread machine takes away all the work. You simply pour the ingredients into the

The Relationship Of Dido And Aeneas
Sam Whiteman
Dido and Aeneas Marriage The relationship of Dido and Aeneas is a complicated story. Beginning at
the end of book one and continuing until after she is dead and in the underworld in book six. The two
lovers disagree on the terms of their relationship, Dido believes they are wed while Aeneas does not
believe they are in a formal relationship. The two Goddesses who put Aeneas and Dido together were
Venus, of erotic love and fertility, and Juno, of marriage. Originally Dido s love was forged by Venus,
with the intention of ensuring Aeneas protection against the Queen of Carthage by making Dido her
ally in arms in [Venus ] great love for Aeneas (1.6). Struck with love, Dido now will do no harm to the
Trojans and spends time with Aeneas during his stories of the fall of Troy. Juno takes advantage of
Dido s infected heart and has the two lovers left alone in a cave in order to bind them in lasting
marriage to join Troy and the Tyrians in Carthage, to eliminate the threat of Aeneas forming Rome and
destroying Carthage (4.155). It appears from these conversations between Juno and Venus that Aeneas
and Dido would have the blessing of the two goddesses of love and marriage, and therefore would
have a healthy and royal matrimony with all the spoils of Ancient Roman Marriage. Aeneas and Dido
do immediately share gifts as would be evident of a normal marriage, Aeneas founding the city
fortifications, Building homes in Carthage. And his sword hilt Is studded

Job satisfaction, the most widely studied work attitude, is then discussed. We look at job satisfaction among Canadians, the effects of job satisfaction on work behaviour, and new findings regarding the relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance and customer satisfaction. The next section provides an overview of organizational commitment, including the types of commitment, consequences of commitment, and ways to build affective commitment. Organizational commitment is strongly influenced by trust and the psychological contract, so the final section of this chapter looks at the meaning and elements of both concepts. EMOTIONS IN THE WORKPLACE The tragic events of September 11, 2001, in the United States are permanently etched in our minds. The four hijacked planes and the collapse of the World Trade Center towers evoked a variety of emotions in people, such as anger, sadness, and fear. Airline employees particularly identified with these shocking events. We were torn apart, says Lucie Leduc, a flight attendant with Air Transat in Montreal. We could totally imagine it. . . . There were flight attendants who couldn t fly for a while; some are still not flying. 2 Lucie Leduc and her co workers at Air Transat experienced the strong emotions associated with the events of September 11, 2001. • 3. The Discovery Of Antibiotics And Medicine Essay The discovery of antibiotics is arguably the greatest contribution to modern medicine. The widespread use of antibiotics along with vaccines had paved the way for the treatment and cure for many of the otherwise fatal bacteria diseases and this led to a decline in the mortality rates in the mid 20th century. The use of antibiotics in medicine today to treat diseases have not all been met with positive outcomes. As a matter of fact, its relative ease of access and abundance has given rise to a major problem in creating new strains of bacteria that are able to resist our antibiotics today. Such is the case for a special type of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, a gram positive bacterium with a spherical shape which in some strains of this particular species has ultimately developed resistance to virtually all antibiotics we have present today. Staphylococcus aureus is often found on skin surfaces in humans colonizing about 30% of the human population [1]. They generally are not pathogenic until they enter inside the body through an open wound or colonize other areas of the body of which they generally are not found [1]. Staphylococcus aureus commonly cause non fatal skin diseases such as folliculitis, cellulitis and abscesses however, they can invade the circulatory system and cause a serious infection known as bacteremia [1,9]. Bacteremia is often common in a hospital setting where patients are exposed to invasive procedures such as surgeries which allow colonies of S. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Relationship With A Woman I was 50 years old and hadn t been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them without yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a relationship with a woman even on non sexual terms was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year old daughter born out of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been married years before at the age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife divorced me. I had been in love only once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I was 38. My wife had been 12 years younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I m not sure. She wrote me a long letter each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded. . . . I m not sure when I first saw Lydia Vance. It was about 6 years ago and I had just quit a twelve year job as a postal clerk and was trying to be a writer. I was terrified and drank more than ever. I was attempting my first novel. I drank a pint of whiskey and two six packs of beer each night while writing. I smoked cheap cigars and typed and drank and listened to classical music on the radio until dawn. I set a goal of ten pages a night but I never knew until the next day how many pages I had written. I d get up in the morning, vomit, then walk to the front room and look on the couch to see how many pages were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Women s Role In The Age Of Reform The Age of Reform began when many women reacted to the conditions and inequalities of life in the 1820s. Women played a prominent role in the Religious and Reform Movements for many reasons. The evangelical teachings of the church about female worth struck deep in the hearts of many, and pushed them to bring their families back to God (Herrera). Women made up a great percent of the church and their attitudes brought forth a new way of thinking. Though women played a big role in this part in American history, they still had to face many obstacles along the way. Up to this point in American history, women were traditionally expected to care for children and watch the household. Families began having fewer children so there were more resources ... • 6. The Impact Of Energy It has been predicted that by 2050, reduction strategies within the passenger transport sector could result in GHG emissions being cut by up to 38%, while reduction strategies in the freight transport sector could see GHG emissions reduced by up to 13% (Chunark et al. 2015). 3.3 Energy Thailand s electrical energy generation is almost entirely produced by conventional thermal means, via oil, natural gas and coal. The remaining power is generated by hydro, renewables and biofuels (Global Energy Institute 2013). Thailand s own oil supplies from the Gulf of Thailand have reduced, as such Thailand has become more reliant on importing oil for electrical generation. Due to the costs of importing oil, Thailand has been transitioning towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Thai government has stated that this increase will be minimal, with coal powered electrical generation accounting for 20% of total power generation in 2015, marking an increase by 2036 of 5% (Ministry of Energy B 2015). It is difficult to calculate the amount of emission reductions that will be achieved by implementing 30% renewable energy generation and heating by 2036. But it can be expected that as percentage of renewable energy power generation increases, Thailand s CO2 emissions will decrease. Power generation from biomass produces between 25% and 50% of the CO2 of conventional power generation while solar generates even less, between 5% and 10% of conventional thermal power plants (Schlömer et al. 2014). Implementing the technologies has already begun and the costs of installation and development is expected to be reduced as the technologies mature. Tariffs, reduced spending on importing oil and natural gas and high availability of organic material means these renewable energies will be highly feasible. 4 Developed Nation Strategies The strategies a developed nation uses to combat GHG emissions doesn t differ greatly from that of a developing nation such as Thailand. Developed nations are economically more capable of introducing, implementing and developing technologies for mitigation, but these technologies are expected to be readily available to developing nations ... • 7. The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the main idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location and time in the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in South America, the story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear message for the audience; Or if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a vacuum with no reason to act and develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates the central idea because it sets the basis for the main theme, the characters who develop the idea and actions within their environment to reflect the issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of events, while the central idea is the main thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most. The Lesson before Dying is a fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To emphasize the theme, the author set the story in the city where the history of segregation between races is very obvious. The narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two parts: whites and blacks. He says: There was a Catholic Church uptown for whites; a Catholic church back of town for colored. There was a white movie theater uptown; a colored movie theater back of town. There were two elementary schools uptown, one Catholic, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Soil Erosion What is soil erosion? Soil erosion is a natural process, occurring over geological time, and indeed it is a process that is essential for soil formation in the first place. With respect to soil degradation, most concerns about erosion are related to accelerated erosion, where the natural rate has been significantly increased mostly by human activity. Soil erosion by water is a widespread problem throughout Europe. Soil is naturally removed by the action of water or wind: such background (or geological ) soil erosion has been occurring for some 450 million years, since the first land plants formed the first soil. Note the raindrop impacts Firstly, if rain arrives too quickly (i.e. with too high an intensity) for it to infiltrate: the runoff which results is then known as infiltration excess runoff, or Hortonian runoff. Secondly, runoff may occur if the soil has already absorbed all the water it can hold (i.e. because it is fully saturated, or if the soil is frozen). Runoff which results from this situation is known as saturation excess runoff. As runoff moves downhill, it is at first a thin diffuse film of water which has lost virtually all the kinetic energy which it possessed as falling rain. Thus it moves only slowly, has a low flow power, and is generally incapable of detaching or transporting soil particles. The micro topography (i.e. small scale pattern of irregularities) of the soil s surface tends to cause this overland flow to concentrate in closed depressions, which slowly fill: this is known as detention storage or ponding . Both the flowing water, and the water in detention storage, protect the soil from raindrop impact, so that rainsplash redistribution usually decreases over time within a storm, as the depth of surface water increases. There are, however, complex interactions between rainsplash and overland flow. If rain continues, the increasing depth of water will eventually overtop the micro topographic depressions. Overland flow that is released in this way is likely to flow downhill more quickly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The decision maker will choose the alternative, and its consequences, that maximizes attainment of his or her goals, values, or objectives11. The outcome of this modus operandi is a rational decision that is, one that most effectively achieves a given end. In short, it optimizes; it is the best possible decision 11. Rational decisions bring about either large and basic or limited changes in public policies. Perhaps it is important to note that these decisions are more often than not in line with the ideals and aspirations of elites, who are happy with the political situation as it stands. Thus, this contributes (I submit) to the wide usage of the rational model within the fraternity of management policy and decision making. 5 Selected Essays by Lefoko O. Molebatsi (2001) Despite heavy criticism of the rational model, some authors continue to view it as an ideal. An idealized model of rational policymaking process consists of a „rational individual‟ undertaking the following sequential activities: 1. A goal for solving a problem is established 2. All significant consequences of each alternative strategy are predicted and the probability of those consequences occurring is estimated. 3. The film adaptation of the play Glengarry Glen Ross written by David Mamet, illustrates how salesmen are able to convince other groups of people that they know what is in the best interest of their customers by each salesman s particular word choice and speech. The theorem also predicts that voters see their utility as single peak spectrum, with only their most preferred utility at the top (The Median Voter Theorem and its Applications, Joshua Poulette, p. 2). These two are very central in determining the efficacy of the median voter theorem and must always be true for it to be accurate. In order to substantiate my arguments, I must insist on a more profound elucidation of what is meant by enjoyment of life, in order to demonstrate how old people are actually more capable of succeeding in these pursuits compared to young people. Firstly, old people have the means to enjoy life more than young people do. Rousseau defines general will as a collective desire to advance society towards a common goal. The continuance of such an injustice could not but prove the undoing of the body politic. (Rousseau, 194 195). It is evident that Rousseau is aware of humankind s selfish desires stemming from a personal will, and he believes that if individuals begin to ignore the common will and instead act upon their personal desires and will, that it will often lead to pandemonium. This chaos is likely to destroy any Republic, as conflicting and selfish ideals will cause individuals to lose sight of the general will, leading to the collapse of a coexisting society. Jamison speaks frankly about violent outbursts she s had throughout her life and within her relationships. Both my manias and depressions had violent sides to them. Violence, especially if you re a woman, is not something spoken about with ease. To what extent does this statement align with your view of the speeches set for study. Rhetoric is the practice of communication that persuades, informs, inspires, or entertains target audiences in order to change or reinforce behaviors, beliefs, values or actions. It is a linguistic technique designed to have a persuasive or remarkable effect, but it is often said to be lacking in meaningful content; but in comparison with powerful rhetoric, and my view of the speeches set for study it is manifest that the use of rhetoric is used to enhance the substance of each speech. Due to the engaging rhetoric used within the speeches Spotty handed villainesses by Margaret Atwood and Doris Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize it is evident that the use of rhetoric is used to enrich the substance of each speech. The two speeches both advocate for common inequalities that effect the whole world. The founding origins are a result of the worlds growing disparity of people s rights across society. Atwood s Spotty Handed Villainesses aims to fight the oppression of women in society and the need for equal rights whereas Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize highlights the gulf between first and third world countries. She discusses inequality through the importance of education and access to books. Both speeches stem from the importance of literacy and how the written world can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Colleges Should Be Required Acceptance For College Students Max is a smart student, she played sports, joined lots of clubs, and volunteered in her local community, but online was another story. Online Max would post racy pictures of herself and comment rude things on other peoples pictures. She even cyberbullied. She was applying to Howard University and her application looked perfect. 15 weeks into the admission process, she got a letter saying, unfortunately she did not get in. The admission staff at Howard University knew that they would have liked Max as a student there, but her digital footprint was terrible. This isn t the only time that this has happened to students. Many students applying into college are being kicked to the curb for the things that are being posted online. A perfect G.P.A doesn t mean a guaranteed acceptance. Colleges should deny acceptance for things prospective students post online because everything students are doing now is cumulative and colleges are looking for students to help their campus not hurt their campus. Colleges should look up their prospective student online because from the beginning to the end of high school everything will add up. • 30. Fossil Fuels And Renewable Energy Essay Finding energy sources is an issue that polarizes scientists, politicians and citizens alike. The most critical points of this debate are at fossil fuels and renewable energy. Energy efficiency is arguably the most dire concern facing the planet, because it significantly impacts all areas of everyday life. Common ground can be found in this controversy because both parties do agree that humans have a responsibility to future generations. That responsibility is to preserve the resources of the Earth, while offering this generation energy that is affordable and accessible. Many people contend that fossil fuels, while being the most cost effective source of energy, have detrimental effects on the environment. Others argue that fossil fuels have little negative environmental impact and that producing alternative energy is too economically prohibitive to be feasible. In 2010, the Gallup Poll conducted a national poll that found half of the Americans surveyed favored expanding energy production via fossil fuels even if it harms the environment. This was the case in nearly every major demographic subgroup, although self identified liberals remained constant in supporting environmental protection as the higher priority (McDermott). Of these two types of energy production, fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal make up about ninety percent of the world s energy usage. Nuclear power takes up five percent of this equation, with the remaining renewable energy resources splitting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Research Paper On Venus Transit The transit of Venus, seen from Earth as a small, dark disk crossing over the sun, is one of the rarest astronomical events to ever witness. If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope filtered only to decrease ... Most worship some form of the Great Goddess and Her consort, The Horned God. Such duo theistic forces are often conceived as embodying complementary polarities, not in opposition. In some traditions worship of the Goddess is emphasized, although in others the Goddess and God are seen as complementary co equals. Some Wiccans conceive deities as similar to thought forms. According to current Gardnerian Wiccans, the exact names of the Goddess and God of traditional Wicca remain an initiatory secret, and they are not given in Gardner s books about witchcraft. However, the collection of Toronto Papers of Gardner s writings has been investigated by American scholars such as Aidan Kelly, leading to the suggestion that their names are Cernunnos and Aradia. These are the names used in the prototype Book of Shadows known as Ye Bok of Ye Arte Magickal. For most Wiccans, the Lord and Lady are seen as complementary polarities: male and female, force and form, comprehending all in their union; the tension and interplay between them is the basis of all creation, and this balance is seen in much of nature. • 33. Anna Of Byzantium Quotes One of the biggest questions about someone s personality is if they would make a good leader. A great book regarding this question is Anna of Byzantium, by Tracy Barrett. This book is based on a real girl, Anna Comnena, who lived in royalty in the Byzantine Empire. Anna Comnena was the first born of Emperor Alexius Comnenus and Empress Irene Ducas. In the book, Anna was the heir to throne of the Byzantine empire and was living happily with her younger sister Maria when her troublemaking brother John was born. After a series of mishaps, Anna s evil grandmother Anna Dalssenna convinced Alexius to demote Anna and give her title of heir to John, who did not deserve it. This concrete detail is evidence that Anna was passionate, because she had a very strong desire, or passion, to overthrow or get rid of her brother and take the throne, which was rightfully hers. Readers might argue that Anna was not passionate, but indifferent, as shown by, Each morning I rose from my bed and attended services, Masses for the repose of my father s soul. I resisted the idea that he needed any intercession to enter heaven, but participated as was expected of me (Barret 176). To some this quote might show that Anna did not care for her father and had no reason to take the throne. However, that is proven wrong in this quote, Under his guidance, I studied for hours every day, bending over the books, with all different styles of writing, until my eyes glazed and my head swam...I would force myself to read more until I was so weary that when I finally tumbled into bed, Sophia had to undress my motionless form, and everynight I would sleep a deep, dreamless sleep (Barrett 122). Whether it s to listen to music, watch a movie, or to online shop. Internet is an everyday part of our lives, for college students it is essential to look at our grades. For teachers it is how they post our grades and the majority of our homework assignments. If someone asked you with all the syfy movies you watch how many of them are robot based movies. Your response would most likely be a lot of them. In the world today it s a real fear that not just Americans but humans have that technology will take over the world. With every technological advance we take there is always a group of people looking for ways to get through back doors. Back doors lead to the dark web which is where people deal illegal drugs, sell body parts and people. This is a prime example of that people repeat themselves time and time again through the generations. In more recent years we have seen that in the automobile industry the jobs became more automated the workers went on strike. They didn t show up to work and refused to do so for days. Most machines even have a timer so that when you walk in the door after a hard day s work, you will arrive to enticing scents of fresh baked bread. This is all possible because of the invention of a computer chip called the Fuzzy Logic microchip which can automatically regulate cooking times and temperatures (see item in Appendix). This chip is also starting to appear in electric steamers and rice cookers as well as bread machines (Newhart, 2006, p. 85). • 37. The Relationship Of Dido And Aeneas Sam Whiteman Dido and Aeneas Marriage The relationship of Dido and Aeneas is a complicated story. Beginning at the end of book one and continuing until after she is dead and in the underworld in book six. The two lovers disagree on the terms of their relationship, Dido believes they are wed while Aeneas does not believe they are in a formal relationship. The two Goddesses who put Aeneas and Dido together were Venus, of erotic love and fertility, and Juno, of marriage. Originally Dido s love was forged by Venus, with the intention of ensuring Aeneas protection against the Queen of Carthage by making Dido her ally in arms in [Venus ] great love for Aeneas (1.6). Struck with love, Dido now will do no harm to the Trojans and spends time with Aeneas during his stories of the fall of Troy. Juno takes advantage of Dido s infected heart and has the two lovers left alone in a cave in order to bind them in lasting marriage to join Troy and the Tyrians in Carthage, to eliminate the threat of Aeneas forming Rome and destroying Carthage (4.155). It appears from these conversations between Juno and Venus that Aeneas and Dido would have the blessing of the two goddesses of love and marriage, and therefore would have a healthy and royal matrimony with all the spoils of Ancient Roman Marriage. Aeneas and Dido do immediately share gifts as would be evident of a normal marriage, Aeneas founding the city fortifications, Building homes in Carthage. And his sword hilt Is studded ...
