This document discusses remote sensing platforms and sensors. There are three types of platforms based on altitude: ground-born, air-born, and space-born. Ground-born platforms include handheld devices and towers used for small areas. Air-born platforms are aircraft and balloons that can image any area. Space-born platforms are satellites that sense from space. Sensors are devices that detect energy, convert it to a signal, and provide target information. Sensors are either active, using their own energy source like radar and lidar, or passive, receiving solar or emitted energy like cameras.
