Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia
Gentrification in North Philadelphia
Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media
soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians
and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a
legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of
wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion
which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are
appropriated by corporate interests. I intend to conduct a study of gentrification in the Northern
Philadelphia area, but I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research Questions
How has the expansion of Temple Universityaffected the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood? (or
alternatively: How has the new home construction and redevelopment by realtors and development
corporation effected East Kensington?)
How do local residents feel about the socioeconomic changes occurring in the Cecil B. Moore
neighborhood (or alternatively East Kensington) and how have these changes affected their lives?
Are changing rent and property rates linked to the expansion of Temple s campus? (alternatively:
Are the changing rent and property rates in East Kensington linked to realtors and development
corporations redevelopment projects?)
Theory
Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its
theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical
debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification
in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply
and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected
from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase
rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing
housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force

Summary Of John KnowlesA Separate Peace
According to a study by Dr. Bella DePaulo, people regularly lie in one of five of their interactions.
This is very interesting considering that many people would say that honesty is one of the most
important elements to any relationship. John Knowles noticed this contradiction and saw it as a
problem, because he addresses it in A Separate Peacethrough Gene. Gene avoids confronting and
speaking about issues and tells lies in hopes of not hurting himself and those around him, which all
eventually leads to Finny s permanent crippling, and then his death. Through Gene, Knowles
emphasizes the importance of appropriate communication, one of the most substantial parts of a
healthy human connection, because it can resolve conflicts before they even happen.
Gene s inability to confront people about his feelings leads to bigger conflicts down the road and
teaches readers that expression of feeling can eradicate future conflicts. Gene s deceit and inner
conflict starts when Finny and Gene are on the beach together. When Finny tells Gene that he is
his best friend, Gene does not answer and reflects, I should have told him then that he was my
best friend also and rounded off what he had said (Knowles 48). When he says that he should
have rounded off what he had said, it implies regret that he did not. Maybe this does not directly
lead to the accident or Finny s death, but this could have been a starting point for Gene. If he could
have learned to speak up earlier on, then the idea

The Importance Of Freedom In My Wood
Freedom in My Wood In this essay, we will be covering My Wood and the irony regarding the
effects of ownership and property. With the use of irony, E.M. Forster s My Wood, illustrates the
negative impact that comes from owning things, and how above all else freedom is what we
should strive for. In the tale My Wood, it displays ideas that Forster had in regard to ownershipand
lack of freedom. This essay will explore those important aspects deeper. It will encompass the
very irony at the core of Forster s opinions. It will also demonstrate just how devastating being an
owner and having things and desiring things is. Lastly, this essay will explore just how important
and applicable, these ideas are today in our current social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though the way he uses irony is dark it is effective. It made people think more about their own
lives and on the materialism in their world at that time. Incidentally, the essay leaves you with the
thought of what the real effects of ownership and property are.
So, what really was the way that Forster used best to reveal the effects of ownership? Well it all
started with his four points. In a way, he created a list of all the things you should avoid if you want
to be happy and unburdened. That s the first step the heavy burden that possessing something
like his Wood is, as Forster states, Property produces men of weight, and it is a man of weight
who failed to get into the Kingdom of Heaven (Forster 247). It is a prime example of the
beginning, the beginning of the loss of freedom both within yourself and within your life. So, in
essence someone wants something they receive it and it leaves them with the burden of it being
theirs. Second point was feeling that this ownership would bring happiness. What it did was create
a desire for more, it created this restless unfulfillment and a need to protect something that did not
bring the desired freedom. This second point showed that ownership created a desire an
unquenchable desire and an anxiety to protect that desire that did not bring the desired freedom.
The third point was that owning

Pope Gregory’s America
In 1591, Pope Gregory XIV fell ill with a gall stone to which his physicians prescribed pulverized
gold and gemstones. As one might assume, he soon died of complications regarding his gall
stone; however, because his medicine was literally money, the Papal coffers were depleted and
Pope Gregory was interred in an non descript stone coffin in the Vatican. According to one Papal
historian, he was surrounded by stupid physicians or culpable ministers (de Montor 218). In the
United States, we ve been prescribed a cocktail of healthcare systems that have been depleted our
coffers while failing to provide adequate care. Fifteen percent of the American population is
uninsured and the cost of healthcare for both the uninsured and the insured is... Show more content

This combination of models results in a disorganized system that increases costs and fails to
maintain human health. By looking at international examples, one can find numerous areas in
which the American system (or systems) fails in comparison to universal systems. Across our
northern border we find a neighbor with universal health care as well as better access to care. Seven
percent of Americans and less than 1% of Canadians were prevented from care because of
financial reasons. U.S. residents are a third less likely to have a regular physician, a fourth more
likely to not meet medical needs, and twice as likely to forgo needed medicine. Across the board,
uninsured Americans have less access to care as well as less satisfaction regarding their care
(Himmelstein, Lasser, and Woolhandler 1303). In comparison to our northern neighbor, who has
similar culture and values, we can see a universal health care system would drastically improve
our access to care. Even if a comparison isn t enough, one can see the impacts of universal health
care in Taiwan, where a National Health Insurance model was recently implemented. Over the
implementation of the system, hospital admission rates increased from 110 admissions per 1,000
people in 1994 to 120 admission in 1996 (Lu and Hsiao 80 81). Looking back to comparisons, the
argument holds true with other countries as well. In a World Health Organization rating of quality

Richard III King Flaws
Shakespeare s plays that deal with historical accounts of kings often show the flaws that the
reigning king had. From King John to Henry VIII, Shakespeare paints an image of a king whose
flaws lead to their eventual downfall. Shakespeare s Richard II is no different, in that context,
from his other historical plays. He highlights the flaws of the reigning king while he highlights
the virtues of an individual that is below the king in terms of status. By highlighting the flaws of
the king, Shakespeare aims to dissolve the idea of a perfect king. An image that was prevalent in
that time period. The image of a perfect king was accepted in part because of the concept of ideal
kingship. A concept that Shakespeare challenges in Richard II. What separates... Show more content

Initially, Richard was able to exert his authority over his nation. Neither Mowbray nor
Bolingbroke questioned or challenged Richard when he banished them. However, as the play
progressed and Richard s tyrannical behavior increased, he was unable to exert his authority as a
king. Once Richard stole Bolingbroke s property, the public s opinion of him changed drastically.
They no longer viewed him as a competent ruler but as a person that harshly used their power.
When he needed the help and support from his nation and troops, the troops deserted him. The
troops possibly knew that Richard s behavior along with Bolingbroke encroaching on the territory
would certainly ensure defeat. If Richard had authority over the troops, they would have been more
loyal to the king for fear that he would have brought harm to them. Bolingbroke returning to
England showed that the authority that Richard once held had been greatly diminished.
Bolingbroke no longer feared any consequences that would come from him returning. If Richard
had exercised his authority properly, Bolingbroke would have not returned and would not have
deposed him. The fact that these events occurred shows that Richard was no longer in a position of
power, therefore, he could not act as the authoritative king he should have. The loss of his authority
showed that at that moment Richard was a king and at the same time not a king (Forker

One Potential Biological Weapon
After thoroughly reading this week s course material, choose one potential weapon from one of
the chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) categories (i.e. you could select
Tularemia, which could be a potential biological weapon). Write in your own words your
assessment of your selected potential weapon s characteristics, accessibility, consequences of
terrorists using that weapon based in researched facts. Please provide any support information
required. The weapon that I chose to evaluate for this week s lesson is a nuclear bomb. This
would seem to be the pinnacle weapon for a terrorist group to acquire and would cause mass
destruction and devastation if detonated, especially in a congested civilian area. Nuclear bombs
have been used twice in human history, both of which were dropped on Japan during World War II.
Hiroshimaand Nagasaki lost an estimated 110,000 people due to the blast alone and an unknown
number of individuals were killed or affected in some way in the aftermath from fires and
radiation (Cole 2006). If a similar weapon would be detonated today over a place such as New
York City, the affects would be surreal. Thousands if not millions could be affected from this type
of weapon and Usama bin Laden actually claimed having one two months after the events after

may very well end mankind as we know it and it may be a wise decision to keep it out of the hands

Coughlan s Essay Online Schools Vs. Traditional Teachers
When most people hear about online schooling, they think about the ability to wake up at anytime,
to wear pajamas while doing classwork, and to learn in the comforts of their own home. Albeit the
idea of online schooling may seem glamorous, recent findings display unsatisfactory results from
students in the virtual classroom. With certain states advocating for the online school s access to
AP classes and credit recovery, the presence of online schooling expands rapidly. However, doubts
for the value of digital learning proliferates, warning parents to regard this alternative with caution.
In Sean Coughlan s Online schools worse than traditional teachers, he discusses the insufficient
results of online schooling whereas Daphne Koller advocates for the usage of online schooling in

Albeit this may hinder his own argument, Coughlan successfully exposes faults in the opposition,
building a more compelling point of view. By using trigger words like except and despite, the
author turns Koller s arguments around, strengthening his points more. Furthermore, he introduces
a benefit of virtual schools: it teaches more or less everything online. Coughlan consequently
undermines this claim arguing, but low achievement in these schools, identified by this research,
has raised big doubts. In the introduction, Coughlan also concedes to the digital glitz of online
schooling. However, he eloquently refutes the preconceived notions about virtual learning with
online learning has failed to match the teacher at the front of the class, which he goes on to support
with evidence from the NSOCS report in the rest of the article. Mentioning the opposition, Coughlin
appears erudite about both sides of the argument, and not blindly arguing without considering the

The Origins Of Piracy In The 17th Century
The origins of modern piracy can be traced back to the 17th century when European states began
to commercially compete for trade routes via the high seas to exploit new markets for trade and
resources. At the time oceans, lacked any regulation, law, and order. Countries such as England,
France, and Spain hired pirate groups to attack enemy ships and steal materials that were found
on board. This time period is often referred to as the Golden Age of Piracy, however, piracy
continues to occur even today. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number
of attacks on vessels by pirates, particularly in the Gulf of Aden, Somali Basin and the Indian
Ocean. In the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea piracy is defined as illegal

disease from spreading. Dark seekers are human that has been infected by the Krippin virus and
turned into vampires (I Am Legend). Ghoul are human that has been infected by the Plalnax virus
and turned into Zombies (WorldWar Z). Although vampires and zombies have some similarities,
looking beneath the surface will reveal several major differences. The vampires are sensitive to
sunlight, and they hide in the dark while huddling around as a group (I Am Legend). Sunlight is
one of the vampires weaknesses, however the vampires are intelligent and they have the ability to
think like human. During one scene, Fred, how did you get here? stated Robert, he was tricked

The Hollow Men Analysis
T.S. Eliot is the greatest poet of the modernism era. Every piece of poetry he published was
highly critiqued and at first not excepted. In the later days of his work as a poet he became more
and more appreciated. It is very rare that the works of a poet will be so long lasting that they stay
for such an extended period of time. The works by Eliot are often referred to as revolutionary.
James Meredith, a biographer wrote about Eliot explaining, Never compromising either with the
public or indeed with language itself, he has followed his belief that poetryshould aim at a
representation of the complexities of modern civilization in language and that such representation
necessarily leads to difficult poetry. The Hollow Menwritten by T.S. Eliot it explains three
different messages including the fact that everyone is empty and full at the same time, people no
longer have religion, and people see the words but don t appreciate the meaning. The Hollow
Men, T.S. explains the message of being full and empty at the same time. When a person says
they are empty it most often means that they are depressed or unhappy with life although they
may have all the things in the world. For example a millionaire can buy all the things in the world
they would like, but still may not be truly happy. Happiness come from experiencing things with
loved ones. Jeff Haden, a psychological professor explains, Several studies have found that time

The Two X Linked Inheritence
X Linked Inheritence
The topic which is assogned to me is X linked inhertance that is a pattern of inheritance in which
the spread of traits differentiate according to the sex of the individual because the genes which are
present on the X chromosome have no counterparts on the Y chromosome. The inheritance pattern
can be recessive or dominant. The trait firm by a gene on the X chromosome is always expressed in
males.Because we know that males only d have one X chrmosome whichever the disease related to
it will express itself in the individual. Transmission from father to son does not occur. There are
two Kinds of X linked inheritance are X linked dominant inheritance and X linked recessive
inheritance.
1 X Linked Recessive Inheritance
Now lets us we some breif explanation of X linked recessive inheritance. it is a mode of inheritance
in which a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome causes the phenotype to be articulated in males
(who are necessarily hemizygous for the gene mutation because they have only one X chromosome)
and in females who are homozygous for the gene mutation (i.e., they have a duplicate of the gene
mutation on both of their two X chromosomes).
X linked inheritance can be expressed as the means that the gene causing the trait or the disorder is
present on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes while males have one X and one
Y chromosome. Carrier females who contain simply one replica of the mutation do not typically
state the phenotype though

Property Developers Role in Urbanization

one type of speculators property developers and their role in urban change. Property developers
who buy a piece of land and build offices or housings and then sell to the public to gain profit.

With a nice living environment, plenty of facilities and a high living standard in urban area, more
people are eager to move to urban area. This causes a further increase in urban population and
adverses the problem of inadequate living space.
To deal with the problem mentioned above, the property developers therefore create much
residential land use. In the 1960s, Tin Shui Wai and Admiralty were for fishery and military port
respectively. But in the early 2000s, the developers turned the originally land uses to residential,
recreational and commercial land use which enlarged the size of the urban areas. Besides, the
economy in Hong Kong is at its peak before 1997. The demand for commercial land use was high.
The property developers urged the government reclaim Victoria Harbour to obtain more land for
building more commercial buildings and offices which are profitable. One of the significant
example is Chek Lap Kok airport which is reclaimed from the sea to facilitate the economic
growth. These show that the property developers expand outwards to get more land and it leads to
urban change.
There is another way of outward expansion and that is the expansion of built up area into rural
areas. That means originally the land is used for agriculture but the developers convert them into
urban land uses. Tai po is a good example to illustrate this point. In the 1950s, Tai Po was a piece of

The Conversion Of Paul In The Book Of Acts
The book of Acts contains three different accounts of the conversion of Paul, which makes this
part of the story in the New Testament redundant. Each narratives conflict with one another that is
presented. It seems that the contentions of the narratives are false. So, the question is why are
there three accounts for the conversion of Paul? To my comprehension of the first narrative, Acts
9 seems to be coming from Luke s point of view. I think that Luke is only giving out just the
basic detail of Saul s conversion to Christ. I think Like s primary function was to only sketch out
the basic details of the narratives. In Acts 22, it shows how Paul is now defending his change from
being an enemy to supporter of Christianity, to his Hebrew fellow men . In this chapter it shows
how there is a connection between Paul s Jewish background and his present religious bearing. Paul
wanted to show his Israelite brothers that there is no conflict between Judaismand Christianity. Acts
chapter 26, tells us another one of Paul s defense. This time Paul is arguing that Christianity was
never intended to be a political rival to Rome. Paul was presenting his case before Festus the
Roman king during the time. Agrippa was also in the hearing of... Show more content on

Motivation Over Money
In the cultural stirring pot that is America, ethnicities are extremely diverse, sometimes causing
tensions between the races. Some were wronged in the past while others were given help to
succeed, and now it is the country s desire to make life more equal. The way the government tries
to do this is by putting in effect Affirmative Action. This policy gives preference to races that were
historically harmed and therefore stunted in ability to make more of their lives now. These
minorities are given first choice in places such as the workplace or in educational institutions in
order to make them more culturally diverse. In the comparison of two opposing views on the issue,
I agree with the view that does not condone Affirmative Action.
I agree with the article The Case against Affirmative Action, written by Louis Pojman, for I
believe the program is morally unjust. I understand the attempt it is making to make up for
mistreatment in the past, but I don t believe this type of opportunity compensation will solve the
problem. By giving preference to ethnicities who were not given preference in the past, society
must again lower a group s worth, this time the majority group. We have learned from our past and
do all we can to make society equal, and over time, by society s behavior and mentality, the equality
will exist fully.
If the issue is about the previously excluded race not having the same opportunities, then I think we
need to give them the chance to earn it. Even then,

West Africa Dbq
The development and growth of civilizations in African history were contradicted by several
American and European historians in the sixteenth and early twentieth centuries. The reason for
this lack of understanding is because the focus was mainly on Europe s chaotic society at the
time. In addition, Africa didn t have physically written documents to present their actual history.
Instead, it was orally passed down. This is why historians have falsely concluded that Africa was
an uncivilized Dark Continent. But what does it mean to be civilized? A group of people is
characterized as civilized when they are organized as a society, and able to advance it. Since West
and East Africa were able to develop advanced forms of economy, education, and government, they

Can the Bombing of Dresden Be Justified
Can the bombing of Dresden be justified?
Dresden was Germanys 7th largest city at the time of the war. Historically, Dresden had been
northern Germany s cultural centre a city filled with museums and historic buildings. The
Frauenkirche Cathedral was one of the world s famous buildings. Dresden was also an extremely
important industrial area, which was something that the allies really did not want, but before
February 1945 Dresden was a peaceful country and there were not any threats from the British yet.,
Many refugees had fled to Dresden from the east because of the Soviet Union s attack; therefore
making it harder to find the actual figure of people who died. At 10 p.m. on Tuesday 13 February
1945, the first British marker flares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land. by Winston Churchill, 28 march
1945.
Although there are other reasons that come through that make the bombing of Dresden seem like
an unnecessary part of the war effort. In the first place Britain did not even start the war. In 1919
Ital, England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage
they did in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force
and started making allies, like Mussillon s Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts
another war.
Germany withdrew from the Geneva disarmament conference, which meant they refused to
support a British proposal that air bombing be banned. Dresden was also a very important rail
centre for moving troops, concentration camp prisoners and war material but it would be no
good if the allies destroyed the buildings and factories, because if there will be, still human s; they
can rebuild it. The war factories of Dresden employed around 10,000 people, many of which lived
in the very centre of the city.
The Russians were asking for help from Britain and the u.s.a because Dresden was too close to
the Russian front line. The number of people that died shows clearly how the Nazi s failed to
provide air raid shelter. People

Cancer Immunotherapy Research Paper
This original research focuses on defining cancer immunotherapy and the different types of
immunotherapy that has received regulatory approval within the past twenty five years. Cancer
immunotherapy also known as biotherapy is the manipulation of the immune system, or utilization
of components of the immune system, as the cancertreatment. After a brief history of
immunotherapy and the foundation of its origin is given in the introduction Dillman goes into
detail about the different types of immunotherapies. The different types of immunotherapies include
nonspecific immune stimulants Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) and Levamisole which are drugs
used to boost the immune system in a general way. Cytokines are the messengers of the immune
system; interferon a and interleukin 2 are cytokines used to mediate and regulate immune
responses, inflammation, and hematopoiesis which is new blood cell formation.... Show more

Stillness Of Venice Analysis
In Marino Faliero, Lioni s soliloquy describing Venice at nightfall illustrates the intangibility and
ephemerality of Venice through emphasising the stillness of its waters. His speech functions
dramatically on two levels which might seem in opposition: it humanises the previously
anonymous patricians whilst simultaneously demonstrating Lioni s (and thus the aristocracy s)
innate inability to understand Venice. Whilst Lioni is prompted by a quiet and directionless
unease to leave the party early, his view overlooking Venice is of a city entirely at peace. Around
me are the stars and waters Worlds mirror d in the ocean. (IV.i.68 9) Lioni s observation
dematerialises Venice: not only is Lioni entirely mistaken in his depiction of a city in peaceful
unity, the city he is looking at is perhaps not even real, merely a reflection of the real Venice.
Byron implicitly questions whether we can trust Lioni s perspective at all through destabilising
Venice as simply a world mirror d in the ocean , much like Emerson s depiction of Venice as a
place one can live in for months and never understand. Like altars, ranged along the broad canal,
Seem each a trophy of some mighty deed Rear d up, from out the waters. (79 81) The artificial
stillness of Venice is compounded as Lioni s soliloquy develops. The only movement here (in
contrast to the continual animation of Beppo s Venice) is the pillars rearing up from out of the

Gender And Dress Code In Public School
Madison Dixon
Mrs. Byrd
English Comp. I
November 8, 2017
Gender and Dress Code High school dress codes are rules for clothing that is deemed either
appropriate or inappropriate to wear to school. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have
uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length.
At some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as
long as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After
attending five public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these
were typically the enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear,
though exceptions would sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most
recent school has, for the most part, been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are
simply to maintain a piece of decency among the students. The code basically calls for
undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves,
and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your hands at your sides. However, there
are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and can t seem to understand.
There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of dress codes. Of course,
boys don t have a tendency to wear track shorts or tank tops to school. However, I ve been coded for

Groupwork Reflection

Groupwork is considered one of the important parts in Business Analytics, no matter in
professional study or in working career. To provide the similar experience, the business analytics
course in UNSW had set a groupwork task to analyze the business blueprint for internet of thing
(IoT) in different business domain. This individual reflection will basically show the experience got
from this groupwork process.
Overview of Teams Groupwork Journey

Strengths Difficulties
During the process of working on the group assignment and presentation, it is observed that the
team has shown some good features of teamworking, which helped us to finish the groupwork task
in a higher quality and efficiency. These features might include:
Schedule Planning and Management. One of the good points for the team is to process the work
schedule with flexibility and conscientiousness. For instance, before taking the first group meeting,
the team members had shared class and working timetables so that the team could find the meeting
time that all team members are available and ensure the quality of meeting. Moreover, when
booking the room at meeting time, the team will book rooms for two more hours in case that the
problem might not be solved in the scheduled meeting time, which provides high flexibility for the
team.
Information Share Analysis. Another good point for the team is to share the information and make
analysis for multiple parts. Instead of fully distributing assignment parts to each member, the team
shared all the cases as well as articles found to one independent folder, then thoroughly discussed
the possibility to apply these cases in different parts. Thus, the final group assignment had shown
high consistency on the content and the overall quality of our groupwork had been

The Awakening By William Shakespeare
Intro:
Throughout the Awakening, Edna is able to find some liberation in each of the various places she
inhabits, yet it is immediately countered by misery and unfulfillment. This holds true even until the
end of the novel when the reader is left with the question of whether Edna has truly found a setting
in which she can finally feel whole and be her true self.
Grand Isle: The novel begins with Edna, her husband Leonce, and her two children vacationing in
the island of Grand Isle for the summer. When Edna is in Grand Isle her life still consists of her
husband who suffocates her identity as an individual the same way the water traps the land of
Grand Isle. There is no easy escape from it, because it would have been easier to simply carry on
than to go against the time period. Therefore, the vacation also represents her easier life, though
it may feel unfulfilled; she is able to find some temporary liberation from the house in New
Orleans. Edna must discover the island within herself. In the beginning of the novel Edna s
character is introduced into the novel, she is titled as the wife of Leonce, yet the rest of the
characters are mentioned simply by name and possibly followed by a physical description, with no
explanation of their relevance or relationship to the situation. This is done to illustrate the idea that
Edna, at this point in time, is not an individual. Her role in society and her community is defined
by her bounding ties to her marriage and the

One way the Federal Government can make healthcare more effective is to make it more
affordable. This can be accomplished by reintroducing the originally slated public option to the
Affordable Healthcare Act. The public option was originally included in the ACA and even
passed the initial House vote. However, it was later removed by the Senate Financial Committee
and not included in the final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why
the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium
costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of
offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally
function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system
mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare,
the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private
competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO),
administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than 2 percent of expenditures,
compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans under Medicare Advantage
(Nichols et al. 6). Furthermore, according to the Medicare Payment

Gentrification In Brazil
Gentrification takes place everywhere, in cities and suburbs across the globe. When upper or
middle class families move into an area inhabited by those with lower socioeconomic standing rents
increase, businesses close and lower income residents are forced to leave. Where once a local
convenience store catered to the needs of the nearby working class, a posh new dance club adjoins
a high priced sushi bar (Garcia Navarro). As a neighborhood grows more attractive to outsiders
looking for an affordable place to live, locals are forced out of an area, a city, and often their jobs.
This happens in urban areas all over the world, and one place where it has become particularly
evident is the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of tiny, cliffside houses surround the
city, climbing up into the verdant hills, packed together like brightly colored sardines. These are
the favelas, home to hundreds of thousands of the poorest people in Brazil. Many of Rio s favelas
remain dangerous and unstable, but in the past several years the Brazilian government has begun a
movement of pacification. Where once police would simply invade, battle a gang and withdraw,
they are now permanently stationed to ensure the safety of neighborhood residents. This safety,
however, brings with it a new kind of danger: as the favelas are pacified and begin to develop,...

As Rio s favela residents watch their homes smashed to rubble, working class people in urban
areas worldwide are forced out of their apartments as rents skyrocket and local businesses are
shut down. Gentrification is, without a doubt, a two sided coin. For new comers it provides
affordable housing and job opportunities, but for those displaced it often means the loss of a
livelihood, a school, a place to live. People are forced out of cities they have known all their lives
and young people returning after only a few months or years can hardly recognize their own
neighborhoods

Cognitive and Motion Impairness after a Stroke
Introduction
An individual s capacity to move is critical to carry out basic activities of daily living (ADL).
Motion illnesses considerably minimize a patient s quality of living. This can be caused by two
ways a) injuries in upper or lower extremities and b) problems in Central Nervous System (CNS
brain or spinal cord). Thanks to the improvements in technology so that new ways of treatments
are available for the treatment of the seriously injured survivors especially from war. In addition
and due to economic reasons, the period of primary therapy is getting shorter and shorter. These
issues will probably intensity later on as longevity continues to increase coupled with the
prevalence of both moderate and intense motor disabilities in the elderly population and
consequently increasing their need of physical assistance. To prevent these problems, current
research studies display a wide variety of products specifically assisting physical rehabilitation.
Robotic devices with the capacity to perform repetitive tasks on patients are among these
technically innovative devices. In fact, robotic devices are already applied in clinical practice as
well as clinical evaluation for rehabilitation from TBI, injured upper or lower extremities and stroke
survivors. However, considering the number of devices described in the literature, so far only a
few of these have succeeded to affect the subject group [1].

The Boston Massacre And The Boston Tea Party
Most people don t realize that it took alot to get America were it is now. But the main reason we are
not speaking british is because of the American revolution. There were quite a few events leading
up to the American revolution. But there are three main ones that really were what got the
american revolution under way. Those events were the townshend acts, the Boston massacre, and
the Boston tea party.
To start off, the townshend acts were a series of taxations which taxed lead, glass, paint, tea and
other goods. Colonist were very angry about all of these taxations. So they decide to boycott by
not getting the goods that were being taxed. Because of all of the boycotting the townshend acts
were repealed all except for tea. Because of tea not being repealed one of the most historical events
in history would happen but that will happen later on.
Next off, the boston massacre was one of the biggest factors leading up to the American revolution.
How the boston massacre happened was that soldiers were sent to boston to keep peace but the
constant presence of the soldiers always being there irritated the colonists very much. And to top it
off the soldiers were harassing women and children. The actual shooting at the boston massacre
happened because a soldier thought they heard fire which made them shoot. Because of that, other

Red box has become the biggest competitor for blockbuster. I love the convenience of driving
less than mile to my gas station to rent a movie for $1 dollar. Blockbuster is attempting to
compete with the blockbuster express; however they don t have nearly as many units as red box.
Also blockbuster express charges more for their new release then red box. I like the convenience
of being able to return red box movies to any one of their locations no matter the city or state.
Movies on demand is a great concept. You can order movies to your home TV as soon as there
available on DVD. You can rent a movie for just about the same price as you would from
blockbuster. Turning your TV on and watching a new release from the comfort of your home is
priceless. Also being billed for the movie with your regular cable bill is a convenience as well.
People enjoy have something that is convenient for them. Those that don t have cable can go the
red box for less than a rental at block buster.
Finally, I don t begin to doubt that digital movie piracy played a role. Even though authorities have
begun cracking down on some of this in recent years, there s little doubt that Blockbuster and others
lost millions of dollars in potential rentals when movies were illegally downloaded. All of these
causes of Blockbusters troubles have something in common: technology. Without the Internet,

a high social status, Knights still held a heroic code to respect and honor women (Medieval

journey to the Green Chapel. Sir Gawain realizes that he is responsible for greed and lack of

In January 2012 as he investigated the challenges in the current production process, he met most of
key departments and work centres by touring the factory.
Industry Overview
Bayonne Packaging, Inc is in the paper packaging industry. In the 1980s and early 1990s
companies in the consumer goods industry start to look for a greater impact with their
promotional materials and star to implement their promotional budget to the package itself
instead of print media and broadcast forms. This led to a rapidly growth on the paper packaging
industry. Also, additional customer market segments made a quick impact in a crowded
marketplace due to the explosive growth of software packaging. These factors give good reason for
the growth in sales from 10 million in 1982 to 32 million in 2001.
New challenges were faced with the bursting of the dot com bubble and when software sales and
distribution moved from CDs to the Internet, but Bayonne dealt well this challenges by adopting a
strategy of diversification into new markets.

is a common topic throughout the novel and once again George tells Lennie about the dream and
then he sits entranced with his own picture, (58). George is filled with wonder and delight, just
thinking about this dream that they share together. After Lennie gets into a fight with Curley in
the bunkhouse and injures Curley badly, the only thing he is concerned about is his dream. He
exclaims, I can still tend the rabbits, George? (65). One major part of the dream that they share is
that Lennie gets to tend to all the pet rabbits that they will have. Lennie is worried about his dream
failing because he fights back to Curley. He, just like

Forensic Anthropology
Not many people realize that bones can talk, if you listen close enough and have the right
education. Forensic Anthropology is the study of talking bones or more properly as told by Burns
(2013), the discipline that applies the scientific knowledge of physical anthropology (and often
archeology) to the collection and analysis of legal evidence (p.3). This discipline brings together
the fields of physical anthropology, biology, and many other physical sciences to allow for the
proper identification of mostly human remains. The basis of forensic anthropology is to help
solve cases using the extensive knowledge of bones that has been built up over the years and is
still being shaped today. The first recorded use of skeletal information on... Show more content on

Also, the vertebrae and pubic symphysis can help discover the estimated age. If the forensic
anthropologist is using the vertebrae, they would have to look at the epiphyseal to see if it is
either absent, in the process of fusing, fully fused, or completely destroyed. They can also check
if osteoarthritis is becoming present, if the line of fusion is visible or no longer noticeable and if
the bone has become porous. Lastly, the pubic symphysis can be used. There are ten phases that
the bone endures from the age of 18 to 50 and upward. The changes of the pubic symphysis are
similar to the vertebrae with looking for the fusion or ossification of certain parts of the bone.
However, depending on the sex of the decedent, there are variations of testing for age because of
childbirth within women causing destructive trauma to the bone. Nonetheless, anthropologists do
not have to go that far to check the sex of the

The Problem of Antibiotic Resistance
ANTIBIOTIC
Antibiotics are a term refers to substances produced by microorganisms that can harm and inhibit or
destroy other microorganisms, specifically bacteria (15). Antibiotics can be produced naturally or
unnaturally via pharmaceutical industries using large scale processes of fermentation. The
antibiotics discovery has been of great significance due to in many clinical settings the antibiotics
generally are the best way to destroy bacteria which cause infections in humans and animals. In
1910, The Salvarsan use in the treatment of syphilis was the first application of antibiotics (15). In
1930, the antibiotics application was continued with sulphonamides. In addition, the first use of

countries where diarrhoeal diseases are causing of illness and death, but are also of particular
interest in developing nations, because they are reservoirs for the resistance transmission.

Agriculture
A long time ago to now, Antibiotics have been used to control and treat plants diseases associated
with bacterial infections. The antibiotics particularly gentamicin, tetracycline, streptomycin and
oxolinic acid were applied in many ways such as spraying and crop dusting (25). This generates
pressure for the selection of antibiotics resistant bacteria in the environment and contributes in
direct inputs of antibiotics into the environment. The resistance can be transferred disease causing

The Manic Pixie Dream Girl
What defines a woman; is it their grace, femininity, vagina, ability to give life or is it their
ability to support a man who disregards her intellect for her heart? The manic pixie dream girl,
the sweet, charming, slim, witty woman whose main purpose in the movie is to assist the man
with his complex life problems who believes the world is against him. We have all seen this
trope before with many of our favorite stars whether it s Audrey Hepburn, Kristen Dunst or
Natalie Portman. This stereotype is so faulted that it is uncanny how movies still make a profit
from such a lazy poorly written storyline feeding off of old age ideologies even though at the
current moment we have a new wave of feminism approaching. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl is...

Thus reiterating the standard notions of power over women. In addition, there are social,
political and economical implications that allow for these to take place and manifest in the
discursive system. For example, politically men are able to hold higher positions and statues, so
therefore it influences the economical forces of men being able to earn more than women on
average creating an unequal wage gap, which therefore influences the social forces that allow for
men to have power over women and as Foucalt says demonstrates the power of the imagined
spectator. The movie influences spectators views on hegemonic structures of men and women and
continues the process of identification; the process of how the spectator responds to an image.
The trope is flawed within the sense that when a spectator watches they adhere to the images and
desire to be like the character. Overtime the manipulation continues to leave subtle structures. As a
women watching a Manic Pixie Dream Girl it perpetrates that I too should aspire to be like Holly
or Claire. From a male point of view it shows men that they are their own saviors despite funneling
knowledge from their female counterparts. Both Paul and Drew fail to realize that they would
have not made it through their tribulation without their dream girl. This is flawed and tells
women that they are put in place to help a man. Although the idea has stayed the same the way
in which it is presented has changed. In Breakfast at Tiffany s, Holly is self deprecating in the
sense that she doesn t realize she loves Paul and nearly sabotages the relationship. Paul leaves
forcing Holly to run after him to confess her love. In the golden age it was very well rooted that
women needed men and essentially required to bow down to him. However, in Elizabethtown
Claire let s Drew find her, well she hopes that he will

Mystery Mixture Lab Report
Someone hands you a container of a mysterious white mixture, and they give you the task to figure
out what it is. What would you do to solve the problem at hand? Many scientists might find
physical and chemical properties to figure it out. The scientists might look for, odor change,
temperature change, fizzing, and bubbling for chemical properties. They also inspect the mixtures
for physical properties before a chemical reactionoccurs, including shape, size, color, texture, and
smell. The Eighth grade thinks that the mystery mixture is C6H8O7(Citric Acid) and
NaHCO3(Baking Soda).
The class believes that it is C6H8O7 and NaHCO3 because of their physical and chemical
properties. The mystery mixture has some chunky parts, along with some ... Show more content on

They ruled this combination out by comparing its physical and chemical properties to those of the
mystery mixture. One of the differences between the mystery mixture and the mixture of MgSO4,
C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is during the chemical reaction. During the reaction of the mystery
mixture the bubbles and only about one centimeter high. During the reaction of MgSO4,
C6H8O7, and NaHCO3, the bubbles were approximately one inch tall. Another difference during
the chemical reaction was the time that the two mixtures fizzed. The mystery mixture fizzed for
about 3 minutes and 14 seconds. The combination of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 fizzed for
approximately 5 minutes and 47 seconds. Thirdly, the eighth grade scientists decided to eliminate
MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 as a possibility to be the mystery mixture because during the
reaction the mystery mixture s temperature was 16.5oC at the end of the reaction. While the
combination of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 ended up at 17.6oC. Finally, the scientist knew
that they could rule out the mixture of MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3 is because they noticed
that the chunks in the mystery mixture were not shiny, but very dull, and the lumps in the mix of
MgSO4, C6H8O7, and NaHCO3

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
In the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey brings 7 key things teens need to
live a productive, open, and successful life to the table. Covey took 7 concepts teens are hesitant to
tap into and made them easy to understand and adapt to. He manages to capture his audiences
attention by sharing stories of other teens that we could easily relate to. Although each aspect of
the habits were relatable to each aspect of my life, I was most engaged with habits 2:Begin with the
end in mind, 3:Put First Things First, and Habit 4:Think Win Win. Habit 2:Begin with the End in

I must say that I learned alot about my best friend that I did not know before because I was
always so busy talking. Habit 4: Think win win was not a habit I necessarily liked, but it was
one i needed to hear. I never realized it but as we got deeper into the habit it was brought to my
attention that my view of certain situations was more on the negative side. It opened my eyes
and taught me how to look at everything in a win win attitude. I had to step back and realize that
things were not always going to be in my favor and I cant win all the time. That day I went out to
practice and tried to complement everyone on the mat and said they were doing a great job! It
was a shock to me how good it made me feel. As you can see 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
has impacted my life in a way I did not expect it to. It taught me many different things about life
that I was unable to realize on my own. By reading other teens stories it made me realize im not
the only one going through these confrontations. All in all I have very impressed with the changes I

Differences And Similarities Between The Twelvers And Shias
Twelvers are a group in Shia Islam. Making up 12% of Shia Islam makes them the largest group
within that section. Twelvers received their name from previous successors believing in twelve
godlike leaders, or more commonly known as Imams. Twelve male descendants from the
Muhammad family are believed to be Imams with religious and political power. Twelvers
previously belonged to a group called Jafar Sadik. However, Jafar Sadik split into two groups,
the Ismaili and the Musawite (later changed to the Twelvers). In most cases, the Twelvers are
referred to as Shias since the two are so closely related. Although they do seem similar, they do
have their differences. The Twelvers and Shias are relatively similar. However, Twelvers separate

Exceptions Under The Exclusionary Rule
In criminal justice the exclusionary rule prohibits the use of illegally seized evidence or evidence
that violates the offenders rights under the fourth, fifth, or sixth amendment. There are three
exceptions under the exclusionary rule, fruit of the poisoned tree , inevitable discovery exception,
and the good faith exception. These three exceptions each allow evidence that can be considered
illegally obtained to be admissible in a court of law, given it fits in certain constraints.
Fruit of the poisoned tree is a term for any verbal or physical evidence obtained by using illegally
obtained evidence. The basis of the fruit of the poisoned tree concept is that like a poisoned tree
would bear poisonous fruit, evidence that is obtained because of illegally obtained evidence is also
therefore illegally obtained. This concept could be considered tier one under the exclusionary rule.
The exclusionary rule and its counterparts were first applied in courts in 1914. The idea of the
exclusionary rule is to maintain proper police procedure. If police officers present legally obtained
evidence, they have a higher chance of getting the offender convicted. This works as a rewards
system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This exception was put into play after the disappearance of ten year old Pamela Powers. An officer
tricked the suspect, religious fanatic Robert Williams, into leading him to the body, by saying

  • 2. Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia Gentrification in North Philadelphia Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are appropriated by corporate interests. I intend to conduct a study of gentrification in the Northern Philadelphia area, but I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research Questions How has the expansion of Temple Universityaffected the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood? (or alternatively: How has the new home construction and redevelopment by realtors and development corporation effected East Kensington?) How do local residents feel about the socioeconomic changes occurring in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood (or alternatively East Kensington) and how have these changes affected their lives? Are changing rent and property rates linked to the expansion of Temple s campus? (alternatively: Are the changing rent and property rates in East Kensington linked to realtors and development corporations redevelopment projects?) Theory Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force behind ... • 3. Summary Of John KnowlesA Separate Peace According to a study by Dr. Bella DePaulo, people regularly lie in one of five of their interactions. This is very interesting considering that many people would say that honesty is one of the most important elements to any relationship. John Knowles noticed this contradiction and saw it as a problem, because he addresses it in A Separate Peacethrough Gene. Gene avoids confronting and speaking about issues and tells lies in hopes of not hurting himself and those around him, which all eventually leads to Finny s permanent crippling, and then his death. Through Gene, Knowles emphasizes the importance of appropriate communication, one of the most substantial parts of a healthy human connection, because it can resolve conflicts before they even happen. Gene s inability to confront people about his feelings leads to bigger conflicts down the road and teaches readers that expression of feeling can eradicate future conflicts. Gene s deceit and inner conflict starts when Finny and Gene are on the beach together. When Finny tells Gene that he is his best friend, Gene does not answer and reflects, I should have told him then that he was my best friend also and rounded off what he had said (Knowles 48). When he says that he should have rounded off what he had said, it implies regret that he did not. Maybe this does not directly lead to the accident or Finny s death, but this could have been a starting point for Gene. If he could have learned to speak up earlier on, then the idea ... • 4. The Importance Of Freedom In My Wood Freedom in My Wood In this essay, we will be covering My Wood and the irony regarding the effects of ownership and property. With the use of irony, E.M. Forster s My Wood, illustrates the negative impact that comes from owning things, and how above all else freedom is what we should strive for. In the tale My Wood, it displays ideas that Forster had in regard to ownershipand lack of freedom. This essay will explore those important aspects deeper. It will encompass the very irony at the core of Forster s opinions. It will also demonstrate just how devastating being an owner and having things and desiring things is. Lastly, this essay will explore just how important and applicable, these ideas are today in our current social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the way he uses irony is dark it is effective. It made people think more about their own lives and on the materialism in their world at that time. Incidentally, the essay leaves you with the thought of what the real effects of ownership and property are. So, what really was the way that Forster used best to reveal the effects of ownership? Well it all started with his four points. In a way, he created a list of all the things you should avoid if you want to be happy and unburdened. That s the first step the heavy burden that possessing something like his Wood is, as Forster states, Property produces men of weight, and it is a man of weight who failed to get into the Kingdom of Heaven (Forster 247). It is a prime example of the beginning, the beginning of the loss of freedom both within yourself and within your life. So, in essence someone wants something they receive it and it leaves them with the burden of it being theirs. Second point was feeling that this ownership would bring happiness. What it did was create a desire for more, it created this restless unfulfillment and a need to protect something that did not bring the desired freedom. This second point showed that ownership created a desire an unquenchable desire and an anxiety to protect that desire that did not bring the desired freedom. The third point was that owning ... • 5. Pope Gregory’s America In 1591, Pope Gregory XIV fell ill with a gall stone to which his physicians prescribed pulverized gold and gemstones. As one might assume, he soon died of complications regarding his gall stone; however, because his medicine was literally money, the Papal coffers were depleted and Pope Gregory was interred in an non descript stone coffin in the Vatican. According to one Papal historian, he was surrounded by stupid physicians or culpable ministers (de Montor 218). In the United States, we ve been prescribed a cocktail of healthcare systems that have been depleted our coffers while failing to provide adequate care. Fifteen percent of the American population is uninsured and the cost of healthcare for both the uninsured and the insured is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This combination of models results in a disorganized system that increases costs and fails to maintain human health. By looking at international examples, one can find numerous areas in which the American system (or systems) fails in comparison to universal systems. Across our northern border we find a neighbor with universal health care as well as better access to care. Seven percent of Americans and less than 1% of Canadians were prevented from care because of financial reasons. U.S. residents are a third less likely to have a regular physician, a fourth more likely to not meet medical needs, and twice as likely to forgo needed medicine. Across the board, uninsured Americans have less access to care as well as less satisfaction regarding their care (Himmelstein, Lasser, and Woolhandler 1303). In comparison to our northern neighbor, who has similar culture and values, we can see a universal health care system would drastically improve our access to care. Even if a comparison isn t enough, one can see the impacts of universal health care in Taiwan, where a National Health Insurance model was recently implemented. Over the implementation of the system, hospital admission rates increased from 110 admissions per 1,000 people in 1994 to 120 admission in 1996 (Lu and Hsiao 80 81). Looking back to comparisons, the argument holds true with other countries as well. In a World Health Organization rating of quality and fairness, the US ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Richard III King Flaws Shakespeare s plays that deal with historical accounts of kings often show the flaws that the reigning king had. From King John to Henry VIII, Shakespeare paints an image of a king whose flaws lead to their eventual downfall. Shakespeare s Richard II is no different, in that context, from his other historical plays. He highlights the flaws of the reigning king while he highlights the virtues of an individual that is below the king in terms of status. By highlighting the flaws of the king, Shakespeare aims to dissolve the idea of a perfect king. An image that was prevalent in that time period. The image of a perfect king was accepted in part because of the concept of ideal kingship. A concept that Shakespeare challenges in Richard II. What separates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, Richard was able to exert his authority over his nation. Neither Mowbray nor Bolingbroke questioned or challenged Richard when he banished them. However, as the play progressed and Richard s tyrannical behavior increased, he was unable to exert his authority as a king. Once Richard stole Bolingbroke s property, the public s opinion of him changed drastically. They no longer viewed him as a competent ruler but as a person that harshly used their power. When he needed the help and support from his nation and troops, the troops deserted him. The troops possibly knew that Richard s behavior along with Bolingbroke encroaching on the territory would certainly ensure defeat. If Richard had authority over the troops, they would have been more loyal to the king for fear that he would have brought harm to them. Bolingbroke returning to England showed that the authority that Richard once held had been greatly diminished. Bolingbroke no longer feared any consequences that would come from him returning. If Richard had exercised his authority properly, Bolingbroke would have not returned and would not have deposed him. The fact that these events occurred shows that Richard was no longer in a position of power, therefore, he could not act as the authoritative king he should have. The loss of his authority showed that at that moment Richard was a king and at the same time not a king (Forker ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. One Potential Biological Weapon After thoroughly reading this week s course material, choose one potential weapon from one of the chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) categories (i.e. you could select Tularemia, which could be a potential biological weapon). Write in your own words your assessment of your selected potential weapon s characteristics, accessibility, consequences of terrorists using that weapon based in researched facts. Please provide any support information required. The weapon that I chose to evaluate for this week s lesson is a nuclear bomb. This would seem to be the pinnacle weapon for a terrorist group to acquire and would cause mass destruction and devastation if detonated, especially in a congested civilian area. Nuclear bombs have been used twice in human history, both of which were dropped on Japan during World War II. Hiroshimaand Nagasaki lost an estimated 110,000 people due to the blast alone and an unknown number of individuals were killed or affected in some way in the aftermath from fires and radiation (Cole 2006). If a similar weapon would be detonated today over a place such as New York City, the affects would be surreal. Thousands if not millions could be affected from this type of weapon and Usama bin Laden actually claimed having one two months after the events after September 11, 2001 (Bergen 2010). Peter... • 8. Coughlan s Essay Online Schools Vs. Traditional Teachers When most people hear about online schooling, they think about the ability to wake up at anytime, to wear pajamas while doing classwork, and to learn in the comforts of their own home. Albeit the idea of online schooling may seem glamorous, recent findings display unsatisfactory results from students in the virtual classroom. With certain states advocating for the online school s access to AP classes and credit recovery, the presence of online schooling expands rapidly. However, doubts for the value of digital learning proliferates, warning parents to regard this alternative with caution. In Sean Coughlan s Online schools worse than traditional teachers, he discusses the insufficient results of online schooling whereas Daphne Koller advocates for the usage of online schooling in The Future of College: It s Online. By using ethos,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albeit this may hinder his own argument, Coughlan successfully exposes faults in the opposition, building a more compelling point of view. By using trigger words like except and despite, the author turns Koller s arguments around, strengthening his points more. Coughlan consequently undermines this claim arguing, but low achievement in these schools, identified by this research, has raised big doubts. In the introduction, Coughlan also concedes to the digital glitz of online schooling. However, he eloquently refutes the preconceived notions about virtual learning with online learning has failed to match the teacher at the front of the class, which he goes on to support with evidence from the NSOCS report in the rest of the article. The Origins Of Piracy In The 17th Century The origins of modern piracy can be traced back to the 17th century when European states began to commercially compete for trade routes via the high seas to exploit new markets for trade and resources. At the time oceans, lacked any regulation, law, and order. Countries such as England, France, and Spain hired pirate groups to attack enemy ships and steal materials that were found on board. This time period is often referred to as the Golden Age of Piracy, however, piracy continues to occur even today. • 14. The Hollow Men Analysis T.S. Eliot is the greatest poet of the modernism era. Every piece of poetry he published was highly critiqued and at first not excepted. In the later days of his work as a poet he became more and more appreciated. It is very rare that the works of a poet will be so long lasting that they stay for such an extended period of time. The works by Eliot are often referred to as revolutionary. James Meredith, a biographer wrote about Eliot explaining, Never compromising either with the public or indeed with language itself, he has followed his belief that poetryshould aim at a representation of the complexities of modern civilization in language and that such representation necessarily leads to difficult poetry. The Hollow Menwritten by T.S. Eliot it explains three different messages including the fact that everyone is empty and full at the same time, people no longer have religion, and people see the words but don t appreciate the meaning. The Hollow Men, T.S. explains the message of being full and empty at the same time. When a person says they are empty it most often means that they are depressed or unhappy with life although they may have all the things in the world. For example a millionaire can buy all the things in the world they would like, but still may not be truly happy. Happiness come from experiencing things with loved ones. The inheritance pattern can be recessive or dominant. The trait firm by a gene on the X chromosome is always expressed in males.Because we know that males only d have one X chrmosome whichever the disease related to it will express itself in the individual. There are two Kinds of X linked inheritance are X linked dominant inheritance and X linked recessive inheritance. 1 X Linked Recessive Inheritance Now lets us we some breif explanation of X linked recessive inheritance. it is a mode of inheritance in which a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome causes the phenotype to be articulated in males (who are necessarily hemizygous for the gene mutation because they have only one X chromosome) and in females who are homozygous for the gene mutation (i.e., they have a duplicate of the gene mutation on both of their two X chromosomes). X linked inheritance can be expressed as the means that the gene causing the trait or the disorder is present on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Carrier females who contain simply one replica of the mutation do not typically state the phenotype though ... With a nice living environment, plenty of facilities and a high living standard in urban area, more people are eager to move to urban area. This causes a further increase in urban population and adverses the problem of inadequate living space. To deal with the problem mentioned above, the property developers therefore create much residential land use. In the 1960s, Tin Shui Wai and Admiralty were for fishery and military port respectively. But in the early 2000s, the developers turned the originally land uses to residential, recreational and commercial land use which enlarged the size of the urban areas. Besides, the economy in Hong Kong is at its peak before 1997. The demand for commercial land use was high. The property developers urged the government reclaim Victoria Harbour to obtain more land for building more commercial buildings and offices which are profitable. One of the significant example is Chek Lap Kok airport which is reclaimed from the sea to facilitate the economic growth. These show that the property developers expand outwards to get more land and it leads to urban change. There is another way of outward expansion and that is the expansion of built up area into rural areas. That means originally the land is used for agriculture but the developers convert them into urban land uses. Tai po is a good example to illustrate this point. In the 1950s, Tai Po was a piece of ... Each narratives conflict with one another that is presented. It seems that the contentions of the narratives are false. So, the question is why are there three accounts for the conversion of Paul? To my comprehension of the first narrative, Acts 9 seems to be coming from Luke s point of view. I think that Luke is only giving out just the basic detail of Saul s conversion to Christ. I think Like s primary function was to only sketch out the basic details of the narratives. In Acts 22, it shows how Paul is now defending his change from being an enemy to supporter of Christianity, to his Hebrew fellow men . In this chapter it shows how there is a connection between Paul s Jewish background and his present religious bearing. Paul wanted to show his Israelite brothers that there is no conflict between Judaismand Christianity. Acts chapter 26, tells us another one of Paul s defense. This time Paul is arguing that Christianity was never intended to be a political rival to Rome. Paul was presenting his case before Festus the Roman king during the time. • 19. Motivation Over Money In the cultural stirring pot that is America, ethnicities are extremely diverse, sometimes causing tensions between the races. Some were wronged in the past while others were given help to succeed, and now it is the country s desire to make life more equal. The way the government tries to do this is by putting in effect Affirmative Action. This policy gives preference to races that were historically harmed and therefore stunted in ability to make more of their lives now. These minorities are given first choice in places such as the workplace or in educational institutions in order to make them more culturally diverse. In the comparison of two opposing views on the issue, I agree with the view that does not condone Affirmative Action. I agree with the article The Case against Affirmative Action, written by Louis Pojman, for I believe the program is morally unjust. I understand the attempt it is making to make up for mistreatment in the past, but I don t believe this type of opportunity compensation will solve the problem. By giving preference to ethnicities who were not given preference in the past, society must again lower a group s worth, this time the majority group. We have learned from our past and do all we can to make society equal, and over time, by society s behavior and mentality, the equality will exist fully. If the issue is about the previously excluded race not having the same opportunities, then I think we need to give them the chance to earn it. Even then, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason for this lack of understanding is because the focus was mainly on Europe s chaotic society at the time. This is why historians have falsely concluded that Africa was an uncivilized Dark Continent. But what does it mean to be civilized? In 1919 Ital, England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage they did in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force and started making allies, like Mussillon s Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts another war. Germany withdrew from the Geneva disarmament conference, which meant they refused to support a British proposal that air bombing be banned. • 24. Stillness Of Venice Analysis In Marino Faliero, Lioni s soliloquy describing Venice at nightfall illustrates the intangibility and ephemerality of Venice through emphasising the stillness of its waters. His speech functions dramatically on two levels which might seem in opposition: it humanises the previously anonymous patricians whilst simultaneously demonstrating Lioni s (and thus the aristocracy s) innate inability to understand Venice. Whilst Lioni is prompted by a quiet and directionless unease to leave the party early, his view overlooking Venice is of a city entirely at peace. Around me are the stars and waters Worlds mirror d in the ocean. (IV.i.68 9) Lioni s observation dematerialises Venice: not only is Lioni entirely mistaken in his depiction of a city in peaceful unity, the city he is looking at is perhaps not even real, merely a reflection of the real Venice. Byron implicitly questions whether we can trust Lioni s perspective at all through destabilising Venice as simply a world mirror d in the ocean , much like Emerson s depiction of Venice as a place one can live in for months and never understand. Like altars, ranged along the broad canal, Seem each a trophy of some mighty deed Rear d up, from out the waters. • 25. Gender And Dress Code In Public School Madison Dixon Mrs. Byrd English Comp. I November 8, 2017 Gender and Dress Code High school dress codes are rules for clothing that is deemed either appropriate or inappropriate to wear to school. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length. At some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as long as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After attending five public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these were typically the enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear, though exceptions would sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most recent school has, for the most part, been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are simply to maintain a piece of decency among the students. The code basically calls for undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves, and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your hands at your sides. However, there are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and can t seem to understand. There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of dress codes. Of course, boys don t have a tendency to wear track shorts or tank tops to school. However, I ve been coded for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Awakening By William Shakespeare Intro: Throughout the Awakening, Edna is able to find some liberation in each of the various places she inhabits, yet it is immediately countered by misery and unfulfillment. This holds true even until the end of the novel when the reader is left with the question of whether Edna has truly found a setting in which she can finally feel whole and be her true self. Grand Isle: The novel begins with Edna, her husband Leonce, and her two children vacationing in the island of Grand Isle for the summer. When Edna is in Grand Isle her life still consists of her husband who suffocates her identity as an individual the same way the water traps the land of Grand Isle. There is no easy escape from it, because it would have been easier to simply carry on than to go against the time period. Therefore, the vacation also represents her easier life, though it may feel unfulfilled; she is able to find some temporary liberation from the house in New Orleans. Edna must discover the island within herself. In the beginning of the novel Edna s character is introduced into the novel, she is titled as the wife of Leonce, yet the rest of the characters are mentioned simply by name and possibly followed by a physical description, with no explanation of their relevance or relationship to the situation. This is done to illustrate the idea that Edna, at this point in time, is not an individual. Her role in society and her community is defined by her bounding ties to her marriage and the ... There are three reasons why the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare, the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private competitive rates affordable. The movie influences spectators views on hegemonic structures of men and women and continues the process of identification; the process of how the spectator responds to an image. The trope is flawed within the sense that when a spectator watches they adhere to the images and desire to be like the character. Overtime the manipulation continues to leave subtle structures.
