Family And Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Family and Medical Leave Act can be costly for employers. When Congress formulated the FMLA
law, what was not forseen was the open door to abuse by irresponsible employees and the detriment
imposed on the healthcare and public service sectors. According to a study by the Employment
Policy foundation, a Washington, D.C. research group, FMLA cost employers over $21 billion
dollars in 2004. This represents the most current statistical information available.
What does FMLA abuse look like from the employers perspective? One study indicates there are
five basic ways that employees are tempted to, and do abuse their FMLA leaves. Employees that
are presumably on leave to take care of their own personal serious heath conditions are doing
some or all of the following: working a second job, running errands/going shopping, engaging in
recreational activities, taking short get away trips, engaging in manual labor activities when
limitations have been claimed. When FMLA is tied to the care of a family member with a serious
illness or injury, the employee has opted not to take care of the family member during a certified
period.
Employees are becoming more and more sophisticated in ways to abuse the Family and Medical

Analysis Of Cyrus Ascension Of The Throne
Greek society put forth some of histories greatest works of writing, producing some of histories
greatest sources in which granted insight into both their own culture and society and that o other
civilizations of their time. Out of Greece came such a great writer and historian as Xenophon
who through his military experience was able to gain insight into the inner workings of Persian
society and culture under the rule of Cyrus. His authoring of the work Cyropaedia and other
Persian related sources showcase Cyrus tactics and reformations put into place in order to
successfully rule over a vast multicultural society. It is clear that Cyropaedia is not necessarily
meant to be truly written as a historical document of Cyrus ascension to the throne. The sources
authored by Xenophon instead playthe role of an artist s rendition mixed with philosophical
antidotes towards the role of a leader in the eyes of Xenophon as he uses Cyrus life in order to put
forth his own philosophical ideologies. While filled with some inaccuracies due to Xenophon s own
motives it does offers great insight into the transformation of culture and society of the Persians
under the rule of Cyrus and the various changes he implicated. According to Xenophon, The use of
his education, the ability to rule through fear and demand respect along with the transformation of
the Persian army were all factors that Xenophon discusses leading to the shift of Persian culture and
society from that of one focused upon

Examples Of Miscommunication In Dante s Inferno

Compassion into Indifference The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which
he has attained liberation from the self and mind . This quote by Albert Einstein demonstrates the
emotional struggle of Dante as he traversed through hell. The Inferno, as a story, has
metamorphosised the way people envision compassion. Dante showed his readers that compassion
is repugnant in order to develop into a more spiritually enlightened individual. The Inferno, by
Dante Alighieri, presents that Dante s reaction to sinners from compassion and pity to indifference
reflects his journey from naГЇvetГ© to spiritual enlightenment, through the empathy of Dante, ...

Dante s realization begins with the Sowers of Scandal and Schism, where he meets a soul who
refuses to talk to Dante. Here Dante says to a soul, You, who cast your eyes upon the ground, if
these features are not false, must be Venedico Caccianemico, but what brings you to sauces so
piquant? (Alighieri, XVIII 49). At this point, Dante is now more mature in his judgment of sins.
Rather than feel pity for this sinner, he mocks the sinner for being submerged in a pile of
excrement. His words do not present any compassion for the sinner. Dante yet again shows his
maturity when he speaks to Count Ugolino, where he says, For if Count Ugolino had the fame of
having thy castles thee betrayed, thou should not on such cross have put his sons (Alighieri,
XXXIII 85). Dante feels no compassion for the Count, and condemns his for his apostate crime.
Finally, Dante demonstrates floccinaucinihilipilification when he meets Bocca Delgi Abate. When
Dante sees him, and then by the scalp I seized upon him, and said: it need to be thou name thyself
or not a hair remains upon thee here (Alighieri, XXXIII 96). As a result, Dante finally realizes that
sinners deserve their punishment. Rather than just ignore this sinner, Dante even impertinently
pulls out the sinner s hair to show his understanding of indifference. Thus, this realization has made
it possible for Dante

Rasputin Influence
Rasputin played a part in the fall of the royal family but he was not the main reason. The Tsar
had no one to support and protect his family due to not seeing to civilians needs. The overthrow
of the Tsarist government was the ending of the oppression and tyranny. Rasputin however did
manipulate his ability to influence government decisions. The Romanov Empire in Russia was a
dynasty that had been in power for over three hundred years and sadly ended with the last
Romanov family being murdered. Rasputin, although he was not royalty, he was close to the
family and had a hand in their downfall but was not the main reason for the downfall (Source J).
There was already dissatisfaction and corruption within the ruling of Russia before Rasputin
arrived. Rasputin Gregory Yefimovich was a peasant as well as a self proclaimed holy man. He was

His ideas about important issues were independent because nothing really influenced those
ideas, he had immaturity and lacked understanding (source I). This affected his ability to govern
Russia because he never gained a sense of confidence and self reliance. Nicholas believed he
was not good enough to rule Russia. He felt as though he didn t have the abilities or the
experience, and with his lack of political knowledge (source H).His lack of confidence and
weakness allowed him to be governed by other individuals. It must be concluded that although
Rasputin did have an influence in the increasing discontent felt by many Russians and their loss
of faith in Nicholas ability to rule, there were many other reasons for the downfall of the
Romanovs. Among these were the fact Nicholas was not a strong leader to begin with this is
proven by the defeat in the war, the Tsarina s influence over him, his irrational decision to go fight

Solving the Foreclosure Crisis- Decrease Interest Rates,...
Foreclosure is an important issue in the United States and needs to be ended or decreased
rapidly as soon as possible for the sake of America s economy. The foreclosure of homes has
decreased the state of the economy, and rendered millions of Americans homeless. There are four
key solutions that will stop foreclosures in the United States and able millions of American to keep
their homes. The first solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in
financial need of an interest rate deduction. The second solution is creating jobs that are able to
sustain through an economic crisis. The third solution is for states and towns to conduct public
seminars on how to manage and budget ones finances during financially... Show more content on

The disadvantages of having banks lower their interest rates are, people may feel less obligated to
pay their mortgage payments on time because the interest rates are lower, despite the jobs that are
available through people owning homes there still may not be enough jobs to go around causing
there to be very little change in the amount of homes in foreclosure. Creating jobs that are able to
sustain through an economic crisis will stop foreclosures because if citizens lose their jobs in an
economic crisis they will be able to quickly find another job. This would be beneficial in the fight
to end foreclosures because people would have the funds to pay their mortgage and any other
financial obligations. How one would go about creating new jobs is by developing new
technology, products, and services that would change the way people live their everyday life while
helping them to save money. Hybrid vehicles are an example of a new technology that has
currently kept and created new jobs for citizens in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are perfect examples
of a new technology that has changed the way people live their life while helping them to save
money. There are two types of hybrid vehicles such as, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV s), and plug

Voiding Cystourethrography
Micturating cystourethrography (MCUG), or voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is a functional
study of patient s bladder and urethra. It evaluates patient s ability to urinate, general indications
include trauma and incontinence. Fever within last 24 hours, active UTI and allergy to contrast
media are considered as contraindications for VCUG.
The clinical notes stated that the young patient suffered from recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI)
and the doctor wanted to exclude recurrent vesicoureteral reflux (RVUR), which is a retrograde
flow of urine. There are different procedures help diagnose VUR, VCUG is usually the criterion
standard in diagnosis of VUR as it gives precise anatomic details and allows grading of the reflux.
While solely abdominal ultrasound can be false negative in many circumstances. Therefore, VCUG
is chosen as the initial workup in this scenario.
MCUG requires little patient preparation. An older child may be asked to empty their bladder

dilated and/or tortuous, but no or minimal blunting of the fornices should be observed. The
dilation and tortuosity of the ureter and renal pelvis becomes more severe in grade 4, while the
sharp angles of the fornices are obliterated but papillary impressions are preserved. Grade 5

The People Of France And The National Assembly
The people of France have endured many hardships as the result of several conflicting ideas being
proposed about the National Assembly, our governing body, and its effectiveness in ruling our great
nation. The people of France want structure, they want a sound government who will do right by
them and will save them from starving with food and order.
As our great Nation continues this struggle for power in the National Assembly, more and more
rebellions have come to light. Just yesterday it was announced in the town s square the
Feuillants have split from the Jacobins out of fear. Fear of what the Jacobins are going to do
now that the king has fled his home and the people he governed. They claim the Jacobins are to
blood thirst and will continue to seek out the lives of those who oppose them. The Feuillants
were also afraid of the Jacobins who wanted to replace the king with another leader. Who knows
what the new leader will be like? How can we trust them to know what is good for us? If the
Jacobins want to replace our king then what else would they see changed? Will we see the loss of
private property? These drastic ideas upset us for they do not hold certainty.
Further in the future we will see that the Feuillants were correct in their decision to serve ties with
the radical hungry Jacobins. Having gained the ability to hold riots of their own from the good
people of France the Jacobins return favor by executing the surviving Conservatives. I agree with
the Jacobins change

Texas Revolutionary War Research Paper
The Texas revolutionary war was in Texas began with the help of first the Spanish, and then
Mexican, governments. In the 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked
Spanish authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American
pioneers.
In 1821, the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain
welcomed the Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who
were making problems in east Texas even before the allotment was made to Austin, and to help

On March 31, Houston paused his men at Groce s Landing on the Brazos River, and for the next
two weeks, the Texans received rigorous military training. Becoming complacent and
underestimating the strength of his foes, Santa Anna further subdivided his troops. On April 21,
Houston s army staged a surprise assault on Santa Anna and his vanguard force at the Battle of
San Jacinto. The Mexican troops were quickly routed, and vengeful Texians executed many who

intermittent conflicts between the two nations continued into the 1840s. The annexation of Texas

The determined Texans would continue to battle Santa Ana and his army for another year and a

As the Anglo population swelled, Mexican authorities grew increasingly suspicious of the growing

camp. Unable to provide for themselves adequately, the brothers argue over how they will take

the brothers when it comes to taking a life, Tuvia going out of his way not to pull the trigger and
Zus not hesitating one second. Both are leaders but with differing views of what being a leader
means. The winter came, and brought with it sickness, strife, starvation, death and more Jewish
refugees. Many undertones are laid equating Tuvia to Moses

Instrumental Relationships And Adolescent Relationships
The variety of films for this class portray youth culture and the array of experiences and influences
that affect adolescents in their transition from childhood to adulthood. One of the central issues
found in the films is the idea of status relations. Status is among the most important and
controversial aspects of adolescence, and youth often interact with each other in unique, specific
ways to maintain it. This paper will explore instrumental versus expressive relationships and status
relations in high schoolin Fast Times at Ridgemont Highand Dazed and Confused. While
Heckerling s film portrays a variety of expressive relationships, Dazed and Confused exhibits many
instrumental relationships both of which affect status relations in high schools in different ways.
While expressive relationships discourage status relations, instrumental relationships encourage
them. To begin, status is one of if not the most prevalent issue among adolescents in the high
school setting. It is difficult to break down status into each of its many components, but the root of
it all lies in the relationships formed and held by youth. The two defining types of adolescent
relationships are instrumental and expressive relationships. In his 2016 book, Freaks, Geeks, and
Cool Kids, Milner explains that Instrumental relationships are formed for some specific purpose or
goal; expressive relations are those that have no specific purpose but focus on companionship
(Milner, 2016). It is obvious that

How to Make Coffee Using a Keurig
The alluring aroma of freshly brewed java is both tantalizing and calming to the senses, so much
so, that most individuals are unable to fathom a morning or a day without a cup of fragrant, hot
coffee in hand. Coffee is one of life s little indulgences that have become a necessity for some,
who find it increasing difficult to live without, as a result, Keurig created an innovative, and unique
form of preparation. The Keurig machine makes it possible for a single serving of coffee, tea, hot
chocolate, or water without the need to clean the machine in between its use. It eliminates the stale
tasting waste that results from the remnants of old coffee, which no coffee drinker desires, and it
eradicates the need to clean the pot or brew basket, all this in less than a minute!
Although the Keurig is considerably easier to operate than a traditional coffee maker, adherence
to a few specific guidelines, are crucial to yield a cup of coffee. First, plug the unit into a power

Computer forensics involves carefully collecting and examining electronic evidence that not only
evaluates the damage to a computer as a result of an electronic assault, but also to recuperate lost
information from a system to prosecute a criminal in a court of law. Since security is such an
important factor in technology, it is crucial for any type of computerprofessionals to understand the
aspects of computer forensics. Seeing that technology is such a major part of everyone s lives,
computer forensics can play an significant role in any investigation now a days. People uses
electrical devices to communicate, record information, This paper looks to provide simple
information with respect to the core technologies used in computer forensics. Subjects covered
include the recovery of deleted data, the value of memory forensics, techniques for recovering and
analyzing data from volatile memory, and intrusions of attackers and tracking them. Computer
forensics is the investigation of computer devices to gather and preserve certain information that
can be utilized in a court of law for prosecution. The goal of computer forensics is to bring out a
structured investigation while documenting evidence to find out precisely what happened on a

tone with Irving when he tries to expand his questioning on a matter that has already been debated

to be expected for a judge making a ruling on a matter as important as this one. It was clear
throughout the trial, both in real life and during the movie that the defense was not trying to put the

When starting in a new environment (i.e. Atlanta Braves) where many of their staff are established
and well known in the office there is a barrier that an individual has eliminate to start the
development of trust. However, for new, entry level employees like myself, we must build rapport
and trust with everyone, not just in one particular office (marketing), but with everyone that an
individual (I, myself) will come into contact with. Even after building relationships and having
open conversations with new co workers, the component of trust has to be proven. Some of the
ways to bring trust to the work environment is by taking some simple steps. Some of the steps to
build trust are: keeping promises to co workers when asked to collaborate on projects, help solve
marketing and promotion problem when a co worker ask for help, and being able to adapt to any
situations within the office that might arise. By displaying these traits, it will help increase one s

Vygotsky And Vygotsky s Theory Of Cognitive Development...

Thought and Language: independent processes.
With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for
psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of
thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter
also made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be
analysed as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic
processes which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev
Vygotsky, it might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s
theories and to expand on their main differences.
As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of
language is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined
that when a child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in
order to help them comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and
thought may interact in the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive
development of a child activates the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going
to appear before language. Besides, it might be claimed that cognitive development

An Open Message On All E Mail Users
An open message to all e mail users:
In recent weeks you may have received a slightly greater than usual number of e mails purporting to
be invoices or collection notices from a wide variety of sources. Despite our utilization of state of
the art e mail filtering mechanisms, it is inevitable that a certain number of these messages will still
get through. Ill willed entities (with various motivations) are continuously attempting to obviate
whatever protective mechanisms are placed in their way.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all e mail users of the following advice:
If a message appears to come from an unexpected source, an entity you have never dealt with, or to
which you have never given your business e mail address, you should immediately be at least
somewhat suspicious of its authenticity.
If a message makes claims regarding a business connection or account which does not exist, you
should also be suspicious. Such messages almost never come from a legitimate business that is
merely mistaken about these sorts of things. They are almost always fake.
If the sender s purported address does not match the purported sender s business name, be very
suspicious. For instance, if a message appears to be a collection notice from American Express,
but the sender s e mail address appears as poubelle2167@reparationdevelosdesttropez.fr, you should
immediately be suspicious. Do look carefully, though, as a sender will sometimes use a clever, but

Comparing the Urban Plans and Philosophies of Le Corbusier...
History of City Planning
Prompt 1: Center and Region I: Compare the urban plans and philosophies of Le Corbusier and
Frank Lloyd Wright. What are the spatial, social and economic factors of each plan?
Wright and Le Corbusier seem predestined for comparison. Their ideal cities confront each other as
two opposing variations on the same utopian theme (Fishman, 163). Charles Г‰douard Jeanneret
Gris, more commonly known as Le Corbusier (October 6, 1887 August 27, 1965), was a Swiss
French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, and writer. Throughout his life, he was a pioneer
of modern architecture and city planning (Frampton, 12). One of Le Corbusier s contemporaries

In his 1929 book, The City of To morrow and its Planning, he even refers to changing the city as
surgery (Le Corbusier 265).
His first comprehensive city plan was La Ville Contemporaine (the Contemporary City) a project
to house three million inhabitants designed in 1922. This was Le Corbusier s first attempt to
reconcile man, nature and machine (Fishman, 189). The city starts at the center with a
transportation hub for busses, trains, cars and planes. Surrounding this hub there will be an
organized cluster of 24 60 story skyscrapers. These glass and steel skyscrapers are cross shaped.
Each individual skyscraper is to be set within a large rectangular green space. The skyscrapers
house the brain of the city. The city is beautifully geometric and symmetrical. Placing the
skyscrapers in the city center reinforces the emphasis on capital as a means of creating a
successful city. Because of the shape and mass of each skyscraper, they have more usable space
than an entire neighborhood but also relieves density and congestion because of the organization
(Frampton, 46).
Outside these skyscraper spaces will be a redent set back apartment blocks. These blocks are the
cells of the system. The social structure of the city can be seen in the distinctions in the housing.
The housing closest to the city center is larger and lusher. And the housing further from the city is
smaller and designed for poorer people (Frampton 50). Therefore, upward mobility in the social
system

How Did The Intolerable Acts Cause The American Revolution
The Intolerable Acts, without a doubt, caused the most unrest in the colonies, therefore provoking
the start of the American Revolution. In 1774, Parliament passed the Coercive Acts in reaction to
the Boston Tea Party, where the Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans and smashed 340
chests of tea and dumped it all into the Boston Harbor. The Coercive Acts were called the
Intolerable Acts by the colonists because they felt that they could not tolerate these new laws.
Firstly, the British suspended all Massachusetts town meetings and the Massachusetts legislature,
basically putting the colony under military rule. This angered the colonists because they didn t even
have the right to present their ideas to others anymore. Because of their reactions, the Intolerable

The colonists were furious at this because they could no longer receive imports from Britain and
other countries they may have been trading with at this time. The Intolerable Acts not only took the
colonists rights, but their imports, too. Plus, the Boston Harbor was one of the busiest and
wealthiest ports in the colonies, so hundreds lost their jobs upon its closure. This helped spark the
American Revolution because colonists begin an all out rebellion against the inconsiderate British
king and his laws that were imposed upon them with neither their consent nor opinion. Lastly, a
British official who committed a crime in the American colonies could hold their trial in Britain in
front of a more lenient judge and jury, as stated in the Coercive Acts. The colonists found this
unjust because if the unwelcomed interlopers could hold more merciful trials, then why couldn t
they? They were the actual residents of the colonies, so they should have as many rights as those
who disrupt their daily life, shouldn t they? If a colonist committed a crime, then they d have to

Literary Analysis Of A Good Man Down
Literary Analysis of A Good Man Down
In the Sports Illustrated article A Good Man Down, author Lee Jenkins utilizes the elements of tone,
insightful word choice, and structure to tell the story of a coach and community who, when faced
with tragedies, displayed the grit of small town values.
The verbose tone of the story begins by describing Ed Thomas s obsession with his football field.
In order to accurately capture Thomas s passion for football, Jenkins goes into great detail
describing the meticulous care and protection Thomas gave to make sure the field was in prime
condition. The tone shifts when Jenkins describes the school s barn by saying, That s where
Thomas kept the big orange lawn mower he used to cut the grass. It s also where he was shot and
killed two days earlier. Here, the author goes from something as mundane as describing a barn, to
abruptly informing the reader of Thomas s death. The stark tone of the last sentence drastically
changes the mood of the writing from small town living to murder. Jenkins wanted readers to
experience the same shock the townspeople felt when they lost a key figure in their community.
Jenkins technique of diversifying tone early in the article was very effective towards gaining the
reader s attention.
Another exemplary example of Jenkin s control over tone was when he described Thomas s death.
The tone fit the actions displayed in the event; mournful and emotional. Jenkins describes the
emotions of Brandon Simkins, an up and coming running back, as he watches his coach, the one
he had dreamed playing for perish in front of him. Brandon wanted so badly to play for Thomas,
and you could feel that through the author s wistful tone. After Brandon s dream of playing for
Thomas was taken away, the tone shifts translates to anger and disappointment. Jenkins conveys
Brandon s feelings by saying, After they got out, he punched the door closed, hitting it so hard he
bruised his fist. The ferocity of tone and word choice in this paragraph help the reader feel the
situation at hand, not just hear about it.
When Parkersburg was rocked by the effects of the tornado, Jenkins describes the coach s reaction
as he came to the side of the field by writing, ...he stared

Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his
poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of
the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes
pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the
point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these
aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything
to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will
just hurt the person more.
Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses
alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost
Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines
more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses
alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse
from the poem describes the way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From
Dulberg 2 the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, (Line 11). Through

If you routinely dry tubs, showers counters and sinks, but still have an issue, check for a water
leak. Inspect under the sink and behind the toilet as well as the floors, faucets, showerheads, and
around accessible pipes for leaks. Ensure the shower door is not allowing water to leak out onto the
floor. Ideal indoor humidity is 50%, air conditioning or dehumidifiers can assist in reducing
humidity, and deterring mold. Call Benjamin Franklin s plumbers in Arlington, TX for the
replacement of worn, leaking bath fixtures.
Allow the ventilation fan to run during showers and baths, and for 20 minutes afterwards to
allow the moisture time to dry. If you do not have a ventilator fan, opening a window can be
helpful when weather permits. Consider installing a fan, selecting the correct cubic feet per
minute (CFM) rating for your bathroom. To determine the size you need, multiply the room s
square footage by 1.1 for 8 ft. ceilings, or by 1.5 for 9 ft. ceilings. The result is your required CFM.
Use an absorbent towel or squeegee to dry the shower and sink after showering or cleaning up at
the sink. In addition, if the rug outside your shower is wet, hang it up to dry. Remove wallpaper in
the bathroom, and monitor drywall for moisture to prevent mold. If drywall becomes wet, use a fan
on it to dry it, and ventilate with windows open when weather permits.

Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Essay
Emotional Intelligence and Leadership
It was Daniel Goleman who first brought the term emotional intelligence to a wide audience with
his 1995 book of that name, and it was Goleman who first applied the concept to business with his
1998 HBR article, reprinted here. In his research at nearly 200 large, global companies, Goleman
found that while the qualities traditionally associated with leadership such as intelligence,
toughness, determination, and vision are required for success, they are insufficient. Truly effective
leaders are also distinguished by a high degree of emotional intelligence, which includes self
awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill.

In the course of the past year, my colleagues and I have focused on how emotional intelligence
operates at work. We have examined the relationship between emotional intelligence and effective
performance, especially in leaders. And we have observed how emotional intelligence shows itself
on the job.
How can you tell if someone has high emotional intelligence, for example, and how can you

components of emotional intelligence self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and
social skill in turn. Evaluating Emotional Intelligence

Evaluation Of The Montessori Program Model
There are mainly six program models used in North America. These program models were mainly
developed in 1960s and 1970s.These Program models are very important as they have profound
influence on children and their development (Essa Young, 2003). Strength and weaknesses of these
program models are examined below:
Montessori Program Model (Strength):1. Montessori believe is that children should be respected
who learn and absorb anything in their most sensitive period (3 6 years), providing the favorable
environment created by adults. The environment is very positive, safe and attractive in this
program. 2. There is small class size and abundance of freedom is given to the children to choose
their activities and learn in their own pace (Essa Young, 2003).
Weakness: 1.There is no encouragement for the children for their work. Not enough group
activities are done (just once or twice in a week). 2. Parents involvement is neglected in
Montessori program model. 3. Only children from the wealthy families can pursue this program
and low income family cannot afford this program. 4. Teacher s role is very limited.5. As children
learn in their own pace, there is less social interaction and adjustment problem may arise in future if
they go in different atmosphere (Essa Young, 2003).
Open Education: Strength: 1. This is a child centered and play based program where children learn
from exploring the environment. 2. Children in this program are gradually introduced with the

Body Language Of A Silent Film
Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early
1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of
truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a
comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey
their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body
language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr.
This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming
the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct
expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton
specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl
(Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective
is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton
goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the
audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He
shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This
was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story,
particularly when

The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender
I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when
attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors
after World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with
trying to find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have
survived, but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to
escape her past even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal
herself as Jewish and talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you
know what it means to live in fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with
your own brain, or looking with your own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s
easy to think liberation brought about pure happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to
live happy fulfilling lives, however many were hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime.
What most startles me about this piece is the idea that even after the war people felt as if they had
to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. I liked how this story showcased the different
viewpoints on Judaism during the time. While Antisemitism thrived in Europe, Mike who was an
American didn t seem to care at all that Ann was Jewish. The quote I think is worth discussing is

One was heralded as the personification of what it means to be Canadian and the other as a
villain who embarrassed Canada (Jackson Ponic, 2001). Both athletes were once dominant in
their sport and their actions have affected the way Canadians view themselves. Wayne Gretzky
is known as the greatest hockey player of all time, born and raised in Canada. It was thought that
through finding greatness in him we can find greatness in ourselves (Jackson Ponic, 2001, p.
47), this shows how important he was to Canadians and how much the average Canadian looked
up to him. However, when he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and married an American
actress, Canadians were outraged. They viewed it as another thing the Americans stole from us
(Jackson Ponic, 2001, p. 49). The other side of the coin is the story of Ben Johnson, Ben
Johnson wasn t a household name in Canada until he won the gold medal at the Olympic games
in Seoul, South Korea. When he won, Canadians were heralding him as their own, as
representing the multiculturalism that was present in Canada since he was not Canadian born
but rather, Jamaican born (Jackson Ponic, 2001, p. 50). The fanfare that followed his gold medal
was to be expected, he was the first Canadian in 56 years to win a medal at the coveted, premier
event that is the 100 m sprint. However, it wasn t long before Ben

Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay
Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to
activism realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the
method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based
art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used
interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged
arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a
commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to
intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis
on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent
necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of
the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience
participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to
audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and
constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is better utilized for global exposure with
powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible, however this paper will focus primarily on
engaging audiences who are marginalized.

Why Agriculture Was Considered An Inefficient Sector Of...
The Soviet economy heavily depended on its agricultural sector. From 1929 onwards Stalin began
the enforced system of state and collective farms, known as sovkhozy and kolkhozy respectively.
These collectivized farms soon proved both impracticable and too costly (Davies 1980). A number
of factors contributed to the level of inefficiency of the Soviet collectivized system throughout its
history, and this essay will discuss these factors and ultimately comment on the key factors
responsible for these inefficiencies. Primarily, this essay will concentrate on, the poor treatment of
peasants who worked on the collective farms, and the impacts this treatment had on their incentives
to produce. Throughout this essay there will be a strong focus on the labour market as the main
cause of inefficiencies, along with the inability of the Soviet Union to correctly manage the sizeable
farms. I will show that these two factors working in union strongly support the argument of why
agriculturewas considered to be such an inefficient sector of the Soviet Economy. There are other
factors which also contribute to these inefficiency problems, they will be touched upon, but only
briefly. Despite the pressures put on the agricultural industry to thrive and the movement toward a
more machine based production process, it became evident that large deficiencies existed within the
industry.
1929 marked the beginning of the drive for collectivised and state controlled agriculture in the
Soviet Union.

Hockey Is The Root Of The Racism
Hockey fans are the root of the racism in hockey. For many decades Canadians have known
hockey as being their national sport. There are black Canadians, Asian Canadians, and Aboriginal
Canadians. What are the differences between those Canadians citizens but the pigment of their
skin? There is racism in hockey it is just not as clear as other forms of racism. Canadais so
welcoming and is a very diverse counrty. Hockey fans are so cruel and reluctant for change in
their world. The focus of this paper is on the lack of diversity in hockey. What will be examined is
the differences between black and white people, society s perception on hockey, Canada s history
with the sport and diversity. The overall question is: is it the sport or is it the people? Some
people may argue that Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world especially
in sports, but how deeply do Canadians embrace this diversity? Racism in sports occurs because
of both individual and team sports. This is main cause of the reported incidents in the media. It
is not the sport itself that induces racism it is the organizers and players that bring racism into
sports. However, without the involvement of people/society there would be no sport at all.
Therefore, it is very important that we make people more aware that there needs to be a notion of
fair play (telegraph). Hockey fans are protectionists by nature. We have to defend our game against
any ill perception toward it. , said local hockey

The Scottish And Scottish Government
Modern Scottish politics was established in 1999 , then called the Scottish Executive rather than the
Scottish Government. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of
devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of
the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the
events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotlandwanted change and
more independence from the London centric Westminster. A number of the aspects of the modern
Scottish devolved political system intentionally vary from certain ones of Westminster in an effort
to be more representative of the Scottish people and will be analysed and evaluated in this essay.
There are many key developments in the process which led to the establishment of a devolved
Scottish Government. In the 1960s in Scotland constitutional issues noticeable and important to
many people and following the 1979 Referendum in which the Yes campaign lost due to the
Cunninghame amendment that required at least forty percent of the electorate to vote yes , the
Scottish National Party (SNP) took nearly a decade to recover . In the 1980s the case for Scottish
devolution was based on the idea that Home Rule would be able to solve the democratic deficit
and also prevent the Westminster government from imposing itself and decisions on Scotland . It
was also seen as way of Scotland rejecting and going against

The film is a very big adaptation from the book. The actual 74th Hunger Games scene is in the
book and the film. The 74th Hunger Games scene is where Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark
go fight for their lives against people from the other twelve districts. Although these scenes are in
the both the book and film they are different in many ways. They had never seen, or had contact,
with any of the other tributes that they were fighting against before this event. The scene leading
up the Hunger Games scene is when they go to the Capitol and start their training to fight for
their lives. While Katniss and Peeta are at the Capitol they are to go out and show off who they
are at the tribute parade. Before Peeta and Katniss go out into the tribute parade, Peeta suggests
that they should hold hands and takes Katniss hand first, but in the book it is Cinna that suggests
them to. He does this to show all of the contributors that they get along and support each other in
every way. As they are riding out to the tribute parade in the film, all of the tributes horses are

Compare And Contrast Dog And Border Collies
Each dog breed has a varying intelligence quotient, making it harder or easier to train certain
dogs. An individual should consider how patient and steady they are willing to be when it
comes to training a dog and should then apply that to which breed would fit best with their
personality. The intelligence of a dog is based on how quickly and consistently they learn and
obey commands, how well they perform a given task, and how willing they are to learn
humanistic jobs. The Border collie is said to be the smartest dog breed as they learn quickly and
have amazing instinct and working ability. They are known to herd sheep and remain in control
of a flock, just as shepherds do. Border collies would therefore be ideal for a person who isn t

Military Commissions Act of 2006 How Should Detainees Be...
Guantanamo Bay in Cuba houses some of the most dangerous people. The people being held have
ranged in committing various crimes. What makes Guantanamo Bay well known is how the time
period a detainee has spent in prison without a trial. While in prison for an extensive period of
time, a detainee is bound to receive discipline for not following the guards. There are often a
variety of different methods that the guards use to teach discipline to the detainees. All who follow
Guantanamo Bay as institution often criticizes the measures taken. What makes Guantanamo Bay

By passing the Military Commissions Act of 2006, the person in control of all decisions would be
the President. They also gave the president absolute power to designate enemy combatants, and to
set his own definitions for torture (Military Commissions). If someone were to identify the players
who were deemed responsible for this act to pass, that someone would most likely identify
President Bush and Congress. These central figures wanted to take the extra step in keeping the
United States protected from any additional acts of terrorism. With what is stated in the Military
Commissions Act of 2006 and those who stressed for the passage of the act, mixed messages are
sent. President Bush, at the time, believed in less harm and more protection for the United States
due to the extenuating circumstances. By creating a law that gives the President absolute authority
and leaving no room for improvement, how was the United States going to look like? What it
going to be looked at as a weak country with no control of power? The other player involved,
Congress, was weak on its part. By allowing this act to pass with authority give to the President, this
law was interpreted as unconstitutional and violated the rights of the judicial branch and ultimately
the supreme law of the land, The Constitution. How the judicial branch got involved in this matter
was based upon its given rights of

Fat Women In Grace Nichols s Fat Black Woman
Being fat and being woman is more than just a physical appearance or characteristic that describe a
body. Being a fat woman explores predominant conditions about size and gender that denote male
power, beauty prejudice and fatphobia (Atayurt, 2010). Grace Nichols in her Fat Black WomanВґs
poem (1984) assertively frames the overweight black female figure from its triple displaced
position and exchanges this appearance into the realm of power and bodily pride , challenging
different social and cultural realities (Atayurt, 2010, p. 1). Likewise the feminist fat acceptance
movementportrays fat female from its undesirable connotation and challenges these negative social,
political and cultural assumptions, eliminating the structural barriers fat women face.
Feminist fat acceptance movement attempts to equate fat stigma with other forms of oppression
(racism, classism, ableism, ageism, etc.) due to the political importance of these single fights
(Chastain, 2015). In fact, fat individuals are as diverse as any other group of people such as fat
queer people, fat people with disabilities, fat black people or fat indigenous people (Chastain,
2015). Indeed, also fat women have been exposed to various oppressions and rigorous beauty
standards (James, 2013), medicalized discourses (Afful Ricciardelli, 2015), political expectations
and health public narratives that condemn large bodies (Friedman, 2012).
Therefore, how does the socioeconomic and political context influence the gendered anti fat
narratives? In fact, the gendered anti fat discussions are perpetuated and proliferated across
Canada. First, a critical analysis of the economic, political, social and moral discourses is required
to identify the meaning of power around fat women and how it is implemented. Second, this paper
will critically discuss how to dismantle power from the feminism and fat acceptance movement
perspective, and the role of the stakeholder groups. Third and last, this paper will address my role,
responsibility, and current challenges as a social worker to deconstruct fat oppression narratives.

Vatican II And The Church
On the eve of Vatican II, the Church struggled with the maximalist interpretation of the two
dogmas; at the same time, Vatican II took up the concerns of the minority bishops as a bridge in
order to discuss further the compatibility of the dogma of infallibility with a communion
ecclesiology. The work of Vatican II has remained a building site, whose attempts to end Vatican
centralization by means of its teachings on collegiality. The challenges that Vatican II needs to deal
with are two major concerns: to rebel against centralization, and to bring the church out of its ghetto
into the modern world. Lumen Gentium offers very little attention to the two concerns, and the
appearance of the phrase hierarchical communion weakens the idea of communion without actually
saying anything new. After Vatican II, Pottmeyer observes, The fear of a shared governance by
bishops had remained. For example, in 1965, PopePaul VI established the synod of bishops and
published the norms for its operation. This form of permanent participation of the bishops in the
leadership of the church also made many of the council fathers disappointed. Fifty years after
Vatican II, the leadership struggle remains by unsuccessfully overcoming and reconciling with
tradition and former dogmas. According to the biblical and patristic concept, the development of a
primacy in communion is to move beyond centralization to a restoration of the communion of
churches within the unity of the

  • 2. Family And Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Family and Medical Leave Act can be costly for employers. When Congress formulated the FMLA law, what was not forseen was the open door to abuse by irresponsible employees and the detriment imposed on the healthcare and public service sectors. According to a study by the Employment Policy foundation, a Washington, D.C. research group, FMLA cost employers over $21 billion dollars in 2004. This represents the most current statistical information available. What does FMLA abuse look like from the employers perspective? One study indicates there are five basic ways that employees are tempted to, and do abuse their FMLA leaves. Employees that are presumably on leave to take care of their own personal serious heath conditions are doing some or all of the following: working a second job, running errands/going shopping, engaging in recreational activities, taking short get away trips, engaging in manual labor activities when limitations have been claimed. When FMLA is tied to the care of a family member with a serious illness or injury, the employee has opted not to take care of the family member during a certified period. • 3. Analysis Of Cyrus Ascension Of The Throne Greek society put forth some of histories greatest works of writing, producing some of histories greatest sources in which granted insight into both their own culture and society and that o other civilizations of their time. Out of Greece came such a great writer and historian as Xenophon who through his military experience was able to gain insight into the inner workings of Persian society and culture under the rule of Cyrus. His authoring of the work Cyropaedia and other Persian related sources showcase Cyrus tactics and reformations put into place in order to successfully rule over a vast multicultural society. It is clear that Cyropaedia is not necessarily meant to be truly written as a historical document of Cyrus ascension to the throne. The sources authored by Xenophon instead playthe role of an artist s rendition mixed with philosophical antidotes towards the role of a leader in the eyes of Xenophon as he uses Cyrus life in order to put forth his own philosophical ideologies. While filled with some inaccuracies due to Xenophon s own motives it does offers great insight into the transformation of culture and society of the Persians under the rule of Cyrus and the various changes he implicated. According to Xenophon, The use of his education, the ability to rule through fear and demand respect along with the transformation of the Persian army were all factors that Xenophon discusses leading to the shift of Persian culture and society from that of one focused upon ... • 4. Examples Of Miscommunication In Dante s Inferno Vladimir Zhdanov Mrs. Nickel Honors Freshman Literature and Composition 29 January 2013 Compassion into Indifference The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which he has attained liberation from the self and mind . This quote by Albert Einstein demonstrates the emotional struggle of Dante as he traversed through hell. The Inferno, as a story, has metamorphosised the way people envision compassion. Dante showed his readers that compassion is repugnant in order to develop into a more spiritually enlightened individual. The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, presents that Dante s reaction to sinners from compassion and pity to indifference reflects his journey from naГЇvetГ© to spiritual enlightenment, through the empathy of Dante, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dante s realization begins with the Sowers of Scandal and Schism, where he meets a soul who refuses to talk to Dante. Here Dante says to a soul, You, who cast your eyes upon the ground, if these features are not false, must be Venedico Caccianemico, but what brings you to sauces so piquant? (Alighieri, XVIII 49). At this point, Dante is now more mature in his judgment of sins. Rather than feel pity for this sinner, he mocks the sinner for being submerged in a pile of excrement. His words do not present any compassion for the sinner. Dante yet again shows his maturity when he speaks to Count Ugolino, where he says, For if Count Ugolino had the fame of having thy castles thee betrayed, thou should not on such cross have put his sons (Alighieri, XXXIII 85). Dante feels no compassion for the Count, and condemns his for his apostate crime. Finally, Dante demonstrates floccinaucinihilipilification when he meets Bocca Delgi Abate. When Dante sees him, and then by the scalp I seized upon him, and said: it need to be thou name thyself or not a hair remains upon thee here (Alighieri, XXXIII 96). As a result, Dante finally realizes that sinners deserve their punishment. Rather than just ignore this sinner, Dante even impertinently pulls out the sinner s hair to show his understanding of indifference. Thus, this realization has made it possible for Dante ... • 5. Rasputin Influence Rasputin played a part in the fall of the royal family but he was not the main reason. The Tsar had no one to support and protect his family due to not seeing to civilians needs. The overthrow of the Tsarist government was the ending of the oppression and tyranny. Rasputin however did manipulate his ability to influence government decisions. The Romanov Empire in Russia was a dynasty that had been in power for over three hundred years and sadly ended with the last Romanov family being murdered. Rasputin, although he was not royalty, he was close to the family and had a hand in their downfall but was not the main reason for the downfall (Source J). His ideas about important issues were independent because nothing really influenced those ideas, he had immaturity and lacked understanding (source I). This affected his ability to govern Russia because he never gained a sense of confidence and self reliance. Nicholas believed he was not good enough to rule Russia. He felt as though he didn t have the abilities or the experience, and with his lack of political knowledge (source H).His lack of confidence and weakness allowed him to be governed by other individuals. It must be concluded that although Rasputin did have an influence in the increasing discontent felt by many Russians and their loss of faith in Nicholas ability to rule, there were many other reasons for the downfall of the Romanovs. Among these were the fact Nicholas was not a strong leader to begin with this is proven by the defeat in the war, the Tsarina s influence over him, his irrational decision to go fight in the war and is inability to provide social, economic and political instability for ... Foreclosure is an important issue in the United States and needs to be ended or decreased rapidly as soon as possible for the sake of America s economy. The foreclosure of homes has decreased the state of the economy, and rendered millions of Americans homeless. There are four key solutions that will stop foreclosures in the United States and able millions of American to keep their homes. The first solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in financial need of an interest rate deduction. The disadvantages of having banks lower their interest rates are, people may feel less obligated to pay their mortgage payments on time because the interest rates are lower, despite the jobs that are available through people owning homes there still may not be enough jobs to go around causing there to be very little change in the amount of homes in foreclosure. Creating jobs that are able to sustain through an economic crisis will stop foreclosures because if citizens lose their jobs in an economic crisis they will be able to quickly find another job. This would be beneficial in the fight to end foreclosures because people would have the funds to pay their mortgage and any other financial obligations. How one would go about creating new jobs is by developing new technology, products, and services that would change the way people live their everyday life while helping them to save money. Hybrid vehicles are an example of a new technology that has currently kept and created new jobs for citizens in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are perfect examples of a new technology that has changed the way people live their life while helping them to save money. • 9. The People Of France And The National Assembly The people of France have endured many hardships as the result of several conflicting ideas being proposed about the National Assembly, our governing body, and its effectiveness in ruling our great nation. The people of France want structure, they want a sound government who will do right by them and will save them from starving with food and order. As our great Nation continues this struggle for power in the National Assembly, more and more rebellions have come to light. Just yesterday it was announced in the town s square the Feuillants have split from the Jacobins out of fear. Fear of what the Jacobins are going to do now that the king has fled his home and the people he governed. They claim the Jacobins are to blood thirst and will continue to seek out the lives of those who oppose them. The Feuillants were also afraid of the Jacobins who wanted to replace the king with another leader. Who knows what the new leader will be like? How can we trust them to know what is good for us? If the Jacobins want to replace our king then what else would they see changed? Will we see the loss of private property? These drastic ideas upset us for they do not hold certainty. Further in the future we will see that the Feuillants were correct in their decision to serve ties with the radical hungry Jacobins. Having gained the ability to hold riots of their own from the good people of France the Jacobins return favor by executing the surviving Conservatives. I agree with the Jacobins change ... Instrumental Relationships And Adolescent Relationships The variety of films for this class portray youth culture and the array of experiences and influences that affect adolescents in their transition from childhood to adulthood. One of the central issues found in the films is the idea of status relations. Status is among the most important and controversial aspects of adolescence, and youth often interact with each other in unique, specific ways to maintain it. This paper will explore instrumental versus expressive relationships and status relations in high schoolin Fast Times at Ridgemont Highand Dazed and Confused. While Heckerling s film portrays a variety of expressive relationships, Dazed and Confused exhibits many instrumental relationships both of which affect status relations in high schools in different ways. While expressive relationships discourage status relations, instrumental relationships encourage them. To begin, status is one of if not the most prevalent issue among adolescents in the high school setting. It is difficult to break down status into each of its many components, but the root of it all lies in the relationships formed and held by youth. The two defining types of adolescent relationships are instrumental and expressive relationships. In his 2016 book, Freaks, Geeks, and Cool Kids, Milner explains that Instrumental relationships are formed for some specific purpose or goal; expressive relations are those that have no specific purpose but focus on companionship (Milner, 2016). In the movie, it isn t until he gives his judgment that he plays a vital role, which is to be expected for a judge making a ruling on a matter as important as this one. With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter also made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be analysed as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic processes which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev Vygotsky, it might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s theories and to expand on their main differences. As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of language is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined that when a child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in order to help them comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and thought may interact in the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive development of a child activates the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going to appear before language. His first comprehensive city plan was La Ville Contemporaine (the Contemporary City) a project to house three million inhabitants designed in 1922. This was Le Corbusier s first attempt to reconcile man, nature and machine (Fishman, 189). The city starts at the center with a transportation hub for busses, trains, cars and planes. Surrounding this hub there will be an organized cluster of 24 60 story skyscrapers. These glass and steel skyscrapers are cross shaped. Each individual skyscraper is to be set within a large rectangular green space. The skyscrapers house the brain of the city. The city is beautifully geometric and symmetrical. Placing the skyscrapers in the city center reinforces the emphasis on capital as a means of creating a successful city. Because of the shape and mass of each skyscraper, they have more usable space than an entire neighborhood but also relieves density and congestion because of the organization (Frampton, 46). Outside these skyscraper spaces will be a redent set back apartment blocks. These blocks are the cells of the system. The social structure of the city can be seen in the distinctions in the housing. The housing closest to the city center is larger and lusher. And the housing further from the city is smaller and designed for poorer people (Frampton 50). • 29. Literary Analysis Of A Good Man Down Literary Analysis of A Good Man Down In the Sports Illustrated article A Good Man Down, author Lee Jenkins utilizes the elements of tone, insightful word choice, and structure to tell the story of a coach and community who, when faced with tragedies, displayed the grit of small town values. The verbose tone of the story begins by describing Ed Thomas s obsession with his football field. In order to accurately capture Thomas s passion for football, Jenkins goes into great detail describing the meticulous care and protection Thomas gave to make sure the field was in prime condition. The tone shifts when Jenkins describes the school s barn by saying, That s where Thomas kept the big orange lawn mower he used to cut the grass. It s also where he was shot and killed two days earlier. Here, the author goes from something as mundane as describing a barn, to abruptly informing the reader of Thomas s death. The stark tone of the last sentence drastically changes the mood of the writing from small town living to murder. Jenkins wanted readers to experience the same shock the townspeople felt when they lost a key figure in their community. Jenkins technique of diversifying tone early in the article was very effective towards gaining the reader s attention. Another exemplary example of Jenkin s control over tone was when he described Thomas s death. The tone fit the actions displayed in the event; mournful and emotional. Jenkins describes the emotions of Brandon Simkins, an up and coming running back, as he watches his coach, the one he had dreamed playing for perish in front of him. Brandon wanted so badly to play for Thomas, and you could feel that through the author s wistful tone. After Brandon s dream of playing for Thomas was taken away, the tone shifts translates to anger and disappointment. Jenkins conveys Brandon s feelings by saying, After they got out, he punched the door closed, hitting it so hard he bruised his fist. The ferocity of tone and word choice in this paragraph help the reader feel the situation at hand, not just hear about it. When Parkersburg was rocked by the effects of the tornado, Jenkins describes the coach s reaction as he came to the side of the field by writing, ...he stared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will just hurt the person more. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). These program models were mainly developed in 1960s and 1970s.These Program models are very important as they have profound influence on children and their development (Essa Young, 2003). Strength and weaknesses of these program models are examined below: Montessori Program Model (Strength):1. Montessori believe is that children should be respected who learn and absorb anything in their most sensitive period (3 6 years), providing the favorable environment created by adults. The environment is very positive, safe and attractive in this program. 2. There is small class size and abundance of freedom is given to the children to choose their activities and learn in their own pace (Essa Young, 2003). Weakness: 1.There is no encouragement for the children for their work. Not enough group activities are done (just once or twice in a week). 2. Parents involvement is neglected in Montessori program model. 3. Only children from the wealthy families can pursue this program and low income family cannot afford this program. 4. • 37. Body Language Of A Silent Film Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early 1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story, particularly when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors after World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with trying to find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have survived, but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to escape her past even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal herself as Jewish and talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you know what it means to live in fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with your own brain, or looking with your own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s easy to think liberation brought about pure happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to live happy fulfilling lives, however many were hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime. What most startles me about this piece is the idea that even after the war people felt as if they had to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. I liked how this story showcased the different viewpoints on Judaism during the time. While Antisemitism thrived in Europe, Mike who was an American didn t seem to care at all that Ann was Jewish. Sports Influence On Canadian Identity A nations identity is a way for all its common citizens to unite together, and for a country as young as Canada, its identity is often not complete and is ever changing. However, sports have been a staple in the Canadian identity for over 100 years, but even sports aren t impermeable to changing times. Over the last 18 years there has been a steady decline in sport participation across all age groups in Canadaand to keep the soul of Canada intact it is important to keep funding the sports industry because the growing disinterest in sports puts a main factor of the Canadian identity at risk. One was heralded as the personification of what it means to be Canadian and the other as a villain who embarrassed Canada (Jackson Ponic, 2001). Both athletes were once dominant in their sport and their actions have affected the way Canadians view themselves. Wayne Gretzky is known as the greatest hockey player of all time, born and raised in Canada. It was thought that through finding greatness in him we can find greatness in ourselves (Jackson Ponic, 2001, p. 47), this shows how important he was to Canadians and how much the average Canadian looked up to him. However, when he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and married an American actress, Canadians were outraged. They viewed it as another thing the Americans stole from us (Jackson Ponic, 2001, p. 49). • 40. Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to activism realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is better utilized for global exposure with powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible, however this paper will focus primarily on engaging audiences who are marginalized. ... • 41. Why Agriculture Was Considered An Inefficient Sector Of... The Soviet economy heavily depended on its agricultural sector. From 1929 onwards Stalin began the enforced system of state and collective farms, known as sovkhozy and kolkhozy respectively. These collectivized farms soon proved both impracticable and too costly (Davies 1980). A number of factors contributed to the level of inefficiency of the Soviet collectivized system throughout its history, and this essay will discuss these factors and ultimately comment on the key factors responsible for these inefficiencies. Primarily, this essay will concentrate on, the poor treatment of peasants who worked on the collective farms, and the impacts this treatment had on their incentives to produce. Throughout this essay there will be a strong focus on the labour market as the main cause of inefficiencies, along with the inability of the Soviet Union to correctly manage the sizeable farms. I will show that these two factors working in union strongly support the argument of why agriculturewas considered to be such an inefficient sector of the Soviet Economy. There are other factors which also contribute to these inefficiency problems, they will be touched upon, but only briefly. Despite the pressures put on the agricultural industry to thrive and the movement toward a more machine based production process, it became evident that large deficiencies existed within the industry. 1929 marked the beginning of the drive for collectivised and state controlled agriculture in the Soviet Union. ... There is racism in hockey it is just not as clear as other forms of racism. Canadais so welcoming and is a very diverse counrty. Hockey fans are so cruel and reluctant for change in their world. The focus of this paper is on the lack of diversity in hockey. What will be examined is the differences between black and white people, society s perception on hockey, Canada s history with the sport and diversity. The overall question is: is it the sport or is it the people? Some people may argue that Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world especially in sports, but how deeply do Canadians embrace this diversity? Racism in sports occurs because of both individual and team sports. This is main cause of the reported incidents in the media. It is not the sport itself that induces racism it is the organizers and players that bring racism into sports. However, without the involvement of people/society there would be no sport at all. Therefore, it is very important that we make people more aware that there needs to be a notion of fair play (telegraph). Hockey fans are protectionists by nature. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotlandwanted change and more independence from the London centric Westminster. Being a fat woman explores predominant conditions about size and gender that denote male power, beauty prejudice and fatphobia (Atayurt, 2010). Grace Nichols in her Fat Black WomanВґs poem (1984) assertively frames the overweight black female figure from its triple displaced position and exchanges this appearance into the realm of power and bodily pride , challenging different social and cultural realities (Atayurt, 2010, p. 1). Likewise the feminist fat acceptance movementportrays fat female from its undesirable connotation and challenges these negative social, political and cultural assumptions, eliminating the structural barriers fat women face. Feminist fat acceptance movement attempts to equate fat stigma with other forms of oppression (racism, classism, ableism, ageism, etc.) due to the political importance of these single fights (Chastain, 2015). In fact, fat individuals are as diverse as any other group of people such as fat queer people, fat people with disabilities, fat black people or fat indigenous people (Chastain, 2015). Indeed, also fat women have been exposed to various oppressions and rigorous beauty standards (James, 2013), medicalized discourses (Afful Ricciardelli, 2015), political expectations and health public narratives that condemn large bodies (Friedman, 2012). Therefore, how does the socioeconomic and political context influence the gendered anti fat narratives? In fact, the gendered anti fat discussions are perpetuated and proliferated across Canada. Vatican II And The Church On the eve of Vatican II, the Church struggled with the maximalist interpretation of the two dogmas; at the same time, Vatican II took up the concerns of the minority bishops as a bridge in order to discuss further the compatibility of the dogma of infallibility with a communion ecclesiology. The work of Vatican II has remained a building site, whose attempts to end Vatican centralization by means of its teachings on collegiality. The challenges that Vatican II needs to deal with are two major concerns: to rebel against centralization, and to bring the church out of its ghetto into the modern world. Lumen Gentium offers very little attention to the two concerns, and the appearance of the phrase hierarchical communion weakens the idea of communion without actually saying anything new. After Vatican II, Pottmeyer observes, The fear of a shared governance by bishops had remained. For example, in 1965, PopePaul VI established the synod of bishops and published the norms for its operation. This form of permanent participation of the bishops in the leadership of the church also made many of the council fathers disappointed.
