There are multiple methods of scientific reasoning within philosophy. Each has its own benefits
and drawbacks, but they all try to give us a more precise method to conduct scientific research.
Deductivism is thought to take a broad generalization and make it more specific. This method is
made up of premises which dictate whether or not the conclusion is true. Because the truth in the
conclusion is based on the truth in premises, deductivism gives us certainty in its validity. When
looking at something like eugenics, a scientist, such as Francis Galton, may make a statement
like, all Jewish people are dumb, Barbra Streisand is Jewish, and therefore Barbra Streisand is
dumb . The first two clauses are the premises of the statement and are simplifications of
sentiments used heavily during the Holocaust as a means to justify the killing of mainly Jewish
people. While the second premise, Barbra Streisand is Jewish, is a true statement, the first
premise, all Jewish people are dumb is not. That is a broad generalization to make about a group

Andrew Carnegie was the pioneering tycoon of the 19th century. From his companies emerged the
steel to build the infrastructures such as railroads, bridges, automobiles, and ships that would build
a nation in need of direction. He was a major player in the transformation into the Industrial

The next investment Carnegie joined was with William Coleman in the oil business. They made a
substantial amount of money but Carnegie grew tired of the messy and chaotic state of the
business and sold out in 1865. In 1862 Carnegie joined a number of Pennsylvania Railroad
managers to start the Keystone Bridge Company. Carnegie had been convinced that the trend in
railroading was towards heavier locomotives and cars and longer trains in order to increase
productivity. This is where many of the old wooden bridges were converted into sturdier, iron and
steel bridges. Carnegie quit the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1865 both to concentrate on the bridge
business and to pursue investments.

Carnegie made his first investment in iron in 1861 when he invested in a local iron company.
Carnegie and three partners later founded the Cyclops Iron Works in Pittsburgh in October of
1864. Right away Carnegie introduced a new method to the iron industry. Carnegie s aim was to
ensure a reliable and cheap supply of iron beams and plates. He was able to control all aspects of
the iron business and create an almost monopoly. This way of business was also called vertical

The use of animal testing has been going on for a long time. Although there have been many
cases where people try to stop it or try to convince people that it is wrong in today s society it is

Despite their opinions, free speech was a great way in this situation for students to rally together
and publically inform the rest of campus of their beliefs. In the school newspaper, The Daily
Emerald, CJ Ciaramelle wrote About 300 students from across the campus community student
unions, Greek Life, the ASUO, the Survival Center, the Women s Center showed up at the meeting

How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really
definitive. I would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some,

Illegal drug to be hidden or legal pharmaceutical can be argued until the end of time while there
will always be some who disagree, it s human nature. Truly it is hard to remove the programmed
thoughts that still remain in our culture that marijuana will always be the reefer madness culprit of
