Pro Drunk Driving
In the United States drink driving accounts for one third of all of our driving deaths. Drunk
driving has taken 10,076 people in the year 2013 alone and it will continue to rise as we remain
the way we are. One person every 53 minutes dies from a drunk driving related incident, drink
driving is an epidemic that can be stopped by getting someone else to drive for the impaired
person. However, the more people that are drinking and driving on our roads the more dangerous
they are for the rest of us.
The sound of a siren, the red flashing lights and a person in uniform knocking at your driver side
window. An officer has pulled you over for suspicious driving. (Beveraly) The US averages

The solution to this problem seems far away and unreachable with our current society that
remains drunk with their love of alcohol and claims they are lucid enough to operate a motor
vehicle with some kind of skill. Ending drinking and driving are nearly impossible but we can
stave off the effects by lessening those who do it. Creating a society of those who do not drink and
drive would lead to an increase of wealth and governmental prosperity to a certain extent. Drunk
driving negatively effects everyone no matter the circumstances and should not be

Abigail Lies In The Crucible
In Abigail s pocket lie seven things: a tube of lipstick, crossed fingers, a phone, a packet of pins,
a picture of a couple with the woman scribbled out, a black book, and a business card with
Revenge Specialist written across the top. The lipstick signifies Abigail s affair with John
Proctor, as well as her beauty, which she uses to her advantage. Her physical appearance makes it
easy for her to appear innocent, as most associate beauty with innocence, and also ties in with
Miller s ending where she become a prostitute, using her looks to survive. The crossed fingers
indicate her ability to lie quickly and easily. Abigail lies constantly throughout the play, showing no
remorse or guilt about what she says. She also possesses the ability

Friendship Between George Washington And Marquis De Lafayette
Throughout history, friendships have formed amongst important leaders that in turn propelled
history into greatness. Starting in the Greek and Roman times, Roman Emperor Octavian with best
friend and defense minister Marcus Agrippa worked together to develop Rome into a major global
power. Similarly, the friendship between Meriwether Lewis and William Clark allowed for the
exploration and development of western America as it is formed now ( 10 of History s Greatest
Bromances , Mandatory.com). Even the friendship between activists Susan B. Anthony and
Elizabeth Cady Stanton propelled the women s rights movement to equality (Bower, Life123.com).
But one friendship that is a little less known, but seemingly the most important to history, is that
between George Washingtonand Marquis de Lafayette. This powerful friendship allowed for the
successful outcome of the American Revolution by providing strong leadership and wisdom to
American armies. This pair of generals changed the course of history simply through their bond
as friends. Marie Joseph Paul Yves Gilbert du Motier, or Marquis de Lafayette, was born on
September 6th, 1757. Unfortunately, by the age of 12, Lafayette s entire family had passed away
and he was left an orphan but an orphan with a sizeable inheritance. Following in his father s
footsteps, a royal navy general, when Lafayette turned 16 he joined the Royal Army in France.
Two years later he married into the Royal family and therefore made himself a very

A Reflection Of My Education In The Landscape Architecture
Presentations, Methods, and Media has truly been a gateway to what I believe to be the rest of
my education in the Landscape Architecture program. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of
this class. It acts as the training wheels for our design, style, technique, and literacy in the field.
If we didn t have a baseline built by this class I personally, as well as many of my peers would
quite honestly be lost. I came into the class thinking I had a great baseline knowledge of plans
and much of what went into the design process of a landscape; I was wrong. The first thing I
thought upon seeing the name Presentations, Methods, and Media was that I would be in a
lecture style class learning about how landscapes had been done over the years, yet again I was
wrong. The first thing Taze, a then quite intimidating individual, handed us was a pop quiz on
patterns easy enough, or so I thought. After about two patterns, I realized I had absolutely no
clue what I was doing, nor what half of the patterns meant. The whole class failing the quiz didn t
start my first impression of the class off well, but I was reassured by Taze each and everyone
would soon be masters of the then daunting patterns. We practiced for days upon days until the
strokes slowly became memory. We worked in and out of class to better our skills at the same
patterns over and over again, to the point I thought we wouldn t do anything else, I was wrong
about that one too. The strokes now seem to be memory and

CHAP T E R 1 Introduction to Conflict Resolution: Concepts and Definitions In this third
edition of our book we bring the survey of the conflict resolution field up to date at the
beginning of the second decade of the twenty first century. Conflict resolution as a defined
specialist п¬Ѓeld came of age in the post Cold War era. It also found itself face to face with
fundamental new challenges, many of which have come into even sharper focus since the п¬Ѓrst
and second editions of this book. Why a Third Edition? The п¬Ѓrst edition of the book (1999) was
written at a time when, despite setbacks, conflict resolution approaches in peacekeeping,
peacemaking and peacebuilding were widely seen for the п¬Ѓrst time to be central in global
politics in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Institutions to study the п¬Ѓeld were established, and their number rapidly increased. The п¬Ѓeld
developed its own subdivisions, with different groups studying international crises, internal wars,
social conflicts and approaches ranging from negotiation and mediation to experimental games.
By the 1980s, conflict resolution ideas were increasingly making a difference in real conflicts.
In South Africa, for example, the Centre for Intergroup Studies was applying the approaches that
had emerged in the п¬Ѓeld to the developing confrontation between apartheid and its challengers,
with impressive results. In the Middle East, a peace process was getting under way in which
negotiators on both sides had gained experience both of each other and of conflict resolution
through problem solving workshops. In Northern Ireland, groups inspired by the new approach had
set up community relations initiatives that were not only reaching across community divides but
were also becoming an accepted responsibility of local government. In war torn regions of Africa
and South East Asia, development workers and humanitarian agencies were seeing the need to take
account of conflict and conflict resolution as an integral part of their activities. By the closing
years of the Cold War, the climate for conflict resolution was changing radically. With relations
between the superpowers improving, the ideological and military competition that had fuelled
many regional conflicts was fading away. Protracted

Applications Of Knx Logging Section
In keeping with the above requirements and considering the findings of the Current
Applications of KNX Logging section (p. 10), having a separate logging service and user interface
seems the most logical solution. Separating the GUI and the logger would allow for the KNX bus
to be logged with a background process, rather than require an application to be running in the
foreground when logging.
Figure 2.3 1 illustrates the overall solution proposed in this section. The diagram shows the KNX
network, the KNX to serial module, the host server, the logging service, the database, the user
interface and finally the user; it illustrates how these components of the logger system will interact
with each other.
In this proposal, a basic KNX network has been developed with various actuators and sensors.
The sensors are more important in the example network as these are the modules from which the
telegrams to be recorded originate. The KNX bus has a KNX to PC module which connects the
KNX network to a computer, these sorts of module will be discussed in greater depth later but
generally are used to connect a KNX network to another device via USB in order to configure or
otherwise manipulate the KNX network.
The KNX to PC module connects the KNX network to a server. The server hosts the logging
service which is used to record all information on the KNX bus in a data store. In Figure 2.3 1 the
data store is shown to be hosted on the server as well, however this is something which may

The Etruscans Research Paper
Topic: Evaluate the theories concerning the origins of the Etruscan people.
The Etruscans were a powerful and influential civilisation of the ancient world, and are even
credited by some as the founders of Rome. However, despite the large footprint they left on western
society, to this day there is still debate over where the Etruscans actually came from. This question
has been disputed for millennia. The ancient historian Herodotus of Halicarnassus, wrote in The
Histories that the Etruscans immigrated from Lydia, in western Turkey after 18 years of famine.
The possibility of the Etruscans being immigrants is often disregarded in favour of the theory of
another ancient historian, Dionysius. Dionysius of Halicarnassus lived approximately 300 ... Show

behaviour of the Etruscans doesn t look anything like that which we see in Lydia. . Like many
people, Tuck does not see enough evidence that points definitively to Lydian origins. Most of the
evidence for Herodotus case is based in how the information is interpreted. As well as this, the case
seems to be made up of fragments of information that, when correctly assembled, point to the

Educating For Citizenship And Democracy
Educating for citizenship and democracy In general, education has two purpose, one is for
individual development, another is for social and nation needs. Development of individuals through
education is well known, such as getting a high paid job, being more intelligent, having a more
successful life. But individual and social aims of educationare complementary to one another.
However, I believe educating for citizenshipand democracyis one of the most important aims
because education is not only about learning, but also how to use the knowledge, skills and values
to actively participate in community and social development, to make our world a better place.
Citizenship education is about enabling people to have a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Developing citizenship not only involves general knowledge studying such as reading and writing,
but also requires the development of citizens capable of engaging in critical thinking, problem
solving, knowing their rights and responsibilities, components of laws and institutions, etc. They
need the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to plan and make the change, and education is
the best and most efficient way to provide the knowledge, behaviours and skills for individuals.
Education produce ideal citizens for the country, and make the country have competitive advantage
as the same time that citizens living high quality lives. It is in my opinion that educating citizens is
a win win strategy for both individuals and the country, because on one hand it could bring
individuals financial benefits, and on another hand it could develop those individuals to be great
citizens. Since education is important to a nation, aims of education must be consistent with
national goals and values. Education itself does not have aims, it is parents, teachers, and society
that hold aims for it (Barantovich et al., 2004). This is how the nation is making sure education is
working for them, by setting them. Though it may have its downsides when considering citizenship
education as the aim. People in power make decisions and hand them down to

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining
Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool that benefits not
only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys
to decide cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both
the prosecutor and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the
defense attorney would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead
you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crimecontrol
and the due process model.
Plea Bargaining
What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement
between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser
offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This
usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution
is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not
contest this. Both of the pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be
used as admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011).... Show

a lighter sentence for precise charges if the offender pleads guilty or no contest to them. Charge
bargaining is a process where prosecutors agree to drop some charges or decrease a charge to a less
serious crime in exchange for a plea by the defendant.

Time Indian. It is an incredibly funny book, told in the matter of fact voice of a fourteen year
old Native American boy, but at the same time, it is incredibly sad. The main character is a
Native American boy called Junior. He lives his life on the Spokane Indian Reservation with two
alcoholic parents. With the encouragement of a teacher, he decides to transfer to a school outside
of the reservation, a primarily white school, in order to pursue a better education and a better
future. There are lots of hardships that Junior faces. He is bullied constantly, his family is
extremely poor, and several people close to him pass away due to alcohol. At the white school, he

They stole all their land and killed their people while Native Americans could do little to defend

forced removals where the U.S. government forced Native American people of different tribes to
move from their native ancestral lands to specially marked territories. Thousands of people died
along the way. Nowadays, there are reservations where the U.S. government gives managing
power of a certain piece of land to Native American tribes. There are often problems of poverty,

Essay On The Minister s Black Veil
The Minister s Black veil: A Hidden Sin or Sin of A Spiritual Egotism In Nathaniel Hawthorne s
The Minister s Black Veil there are many secrets, many dark areas, both literal and metaphorical.
An intensely private man who allowed few to know him well, Nathaniel Hawthorne was fascinated
by the dark secrets of human nature. One of the first American writers to explore his characters
hidden motivations, Hawthorne broke new ground in American literature with his morally complex
characters. He explored such themes as sin, hypocrisy, and guilt. This essay is discussed about a
pleasant scene in Milford, a small Puritan town where men, women, and children mill about

The veil can be compared to man s way of trying to hide the hideous acts of a sin by trying to
cover it up with a fig leaf as in the case of Adam and Eva. The townspeople assume that Hooper
has committed a specific crime, and because their Puritan community recognizes the danger of
sin, they re horrified that Hooper seems to be showing his sin to the public. Puritans believe that
sin must be defeated at all costs, it s also possible that the townspeople of Milford do understand
what Hooper s veil means. It reminds them of their own secret sins. the story seems to suggest
that it s impossible to know to a certainty if another person is innocent or guilty of a specific
crime. This might suggest that people shouldn t obsess over others sins, but respect others and
allow them to work through their own guilt. By wearing the veil, Hooper brings misery to himself,

The Death of Julius Caesar, a Great Leader
Julius Caesar was a great leader of Rome. Not only did he lead a very strong army, but his people
also loved him. The debate is always should he have been killed or should he have lived and lead us
to more victories.
The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De Vita Caesarum,
Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his life. Suetonius wrote the
biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote about the Roman Empire. It was written in
110 CE. It was written to show the side of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors.
It is trustworthy because Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to
provide a lot of information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of
Caesar because he wrote it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts Caesar in a bad
light because the senators did not like Caesar. Considering that the article was written based off
of the senators, it put Caesar in a bad light. Meaning that this author did not want Caesar to live.
Another document that was used was a secondary source. It was an article written in the
Britannica Student Encyclopedia. It was written for the public to read and understand Julius
Caesar. It was used to give a brief overview of Julius Caesar s life. It talked about him as a person,
the civil war that he was involved with, the march he lead, as well as his reputation. The article is

Auto Bailout
Should Obama Bail Out the Auto Industry?
Context and Situations
By November 2008, Chrysler s sales had shrunk 25%. GM posted losses of $18 billion, and Ford
lost $11.5 billion. Despite Ford s elimination of 1/3 of its workforce, GM s elimination of 30,000
jobs, and Chrysler s cutting of 13,000 employees, the Big Three were on the brink of bankruptcy.
All three testified before both houses of congress asking for loans to avoid default. The Big Three
stated their demise would trigger 3 million layoffs within a year, plunging the economy further into
recession.
The purpose of the loans was to provide operating cash for GM and Chrysler, and to keep making

The question is: Did the government structure the financing correctly?
The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a
substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The government has already written
off or realized losses of over $7 billion as of April 2012[2]. More losses will come as the
government sells its remaining stake in GM and Ally Financial. The Congressional Budget Office
estimates that the auto bailout will ultimately cost taxpayers a total of about $20 billion[3]. The
Treasury Department is even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price,
taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4].
Consequences
Consequence for the labor unions: In an opinion editorial published by The Detroit News, Mitt
Romney not only attacks the way the administration handled the bailout of General Motors Co. and
Chrysler Group LLC, but argues that the United Auto Workers(UAW) union benefited from the
bankruptcies in wake of contributing millions to Democrats and Barack Obama s campaign.
This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s
intervention, a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new
employees, to accept pay and benefit cuts. Average labor costs would have fallen to the same levels
as the foreign transplants, approximately $47 an hour. While this is still substantially higher
compensation than the average

Comparing Female Sexuality in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar and Alice Munro s Lives of Girls and
Women
In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar and Alice Munro s Lives of Girls and Women, Esther and Del try to
take control of their sexuality and their sexual lives. These two female protagonists attempt to gain
sexual confidence by quietly rejecting the societal images of women. They are able to seduce men
and pilot their own sexual lives. These women are also able to ignore the popular beliefs about
marriage and motherhood, thus freeing them from the traditional, restrictive female sexual roles.

In Lives of Girls and Women, people grow out of reading. As the protagonist Del says, reading
persisted mostly in unmarried ladies, would have been shameful in a man (Munro, 117). As in The
Bell Jar, women in Lives of Girls and Women who are educated and who are professionals are
seen as masculine and immature. Mature and marriageable women learn to use make up and to
flaunt their physical beauty. Del overturns this rule by memorizing poetry and doing well
academically. Both Esther and Del feel that academic achievements best define and express their
sexuality, though not necessarily enhancing their sexual lives. While the bored, rich girls in The
Bell Jar spend most of their time painting their nails and getting a tan, Esther feels out of place
among the idle and the fashion conscious. Her friend Doreen admits that at her college, all the
girls had pocket book covers made out of the same material as their dresses (Plath, 5). The night that
Doreen returns drunken from the apartment of a stranger named Lenny, Esther closes her door on
her friend but does not have the heart to lock it. Thus, Esther successfully shuts out the false
societal values of female sexuality for a while, but acknowledges that her form of sexuality must co
exist with that of Doreen and of other females in her society.

ArГЄte, translates to the Greek word virtue. Within Meno, Plato puts forth a question, MENO: Can
you tell me, Socrates, is virtue something acquired by teaching? Or is it something acquired not by
teaching, but by practice? Or is it something acquired neither by practice nor by learning, but
something human beings possess by nature or in some other way? (Plato; Meno, Page 159). In other
words, can virtue/arГЄte be taught? In a way that Geometers conduct their investigations, Plato, too,
has conducted one, through a hypothesis. A hypothesis in which concludes that if virtue can be

with clash of ideals, where Benjamin s priority to save his children from experiencing the war met
with the reality that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The member of the family were

He is a smart person. Benjamin Martin even considered him as genius. If not for his taking the
Continental army lightly, Benjamin may not have been able to lead the Continental army to
victory. He has the trait of the mad scientist.
And for the woman, we can categorized Charlotte Selton as the tomboy who has the appearance of
the madonna. She is reliable, as can be seen from her taking care of Benjamin s children during the
war.
With a lot of character, there are quite a number of conflicts happened inside the movie. The first
kind is the man against himself conflict. This kind of conflict can be seen from the argument
between Benjamin and Gabriel that resulted in Benjamin questioning his own resolves. Benjamin
also had the same kind of conflict when he was devastated by the death of Gabriel.
The second kind is the man against man conflict. Benjamin was having this kind of conflict with

The Key Role Of The 1936 Summer Olympic Games
The Crucial Role of the 1936 Summer Olympic Games
In May of 1931, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected Berlin, Germany as the
site for the 1936 Summer Olympic Games, however, they did not know that in just two short
years one of the most notorious, ruthless and supressive regimes, and it s leader, ever known to
man would be elected to lead Germany. The National Socialist German Workers (Nazi) Party was
founded on February 24, 1920, in Munich, Germany. After suffering from a terrible humiliation
and loss at the conclusion of World War One, the German people were hungry for change, wanted
a sense of pride for being German, and a reason to have hope for the future, all of these things were
exactly what the Nazi Party promised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the IOC selected Berlin as the site for the 1936 Summer Olympic Games, they had no idea
that in just a few short years Germany would be transformed from a humble, desperate state to a
ruthless and power hungry empire. The first part of German Society to undergo a transformation by
the Nazi Party was the German government, which underwent a major change on January 30, 1933,
[when] the German President, Paul von Hindenburg, appointed Adolf Hitler chancellor, the head of
the government. (Bachrach 16). In order to gain power and stay in power, the Nazi Party needed
to win over the hearts and minds of the German people; in order to do this, Hitler and the Nazis
promised [the] birth of a New Germany, giving hope to many Germans fearful of the future.
(Bachrach 16). To accomplish their goal of giving birth to a New Germany, the policies of the Nazi
government were aimed at restoring Germany s importance as a country, following its defeat in the
First World War. Its methods, in addition to strong nationalist rhetoric and demonstrations, included
targeting groups it claimed to be responsible for the economic ills of the country, principally Jews,
who became the regime s preferred target of discrimination. (Pound 65). When other countries and
groups heard about the discrimination and mistreatment of Jews and other ethnic groups being
committed by this new Nazi Party, they started to question whether or not the Olympic Games

Observation Of Classroom Behavior
Observation Summary Essay Throughout my observations I saw many differences in both the
behavior level of the students, as well as the intellectual abilities of students. During my time I
also observed many successful teaching methods and only one unsuccessful one. Along with
my observations of the student s behavior and their intelligence levels, I also saw many of the
consistencies associated with what has been presented in our class. The behavior of the students
is what I saw the most difference in. The behavior of the students varied between all of the
classes I observed, but the freshmen class had significantly worse behavior than all the rest. The
cognitive abilities of the students I witnesses also varied by class, but not nearly as much as the
behavior levels did. To no surprise, the senior level class was by far the best behaved and the
most intelligent; however, the extent of their good behavior still astounded me. Throughout my
observations I got to see firsthand many of the ideas we discussed in class play out. I saw signs
of increased likeliness to engage in risky behavior, with the freshman class being the most likely
to engage; however, one of the 8th grade classes also showed signs of their increased likeliness
to engage in risky behavior. I also got to see some of the seniors show themselves socially
transitioning from middle adolescence into more adult and late adolescent roles. The first class that
I observed was an 8th grade math class. The behavior

Origin Of Runes Research Paper
Myth attributes the origins of runes to the Norse god Odin. Legend describes how Odin hung
himself from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, speared himself, and for nine days and nights, Odin
travelled to and from the edge of death; a painful, mystical journey of self sacrifice and self
awareness on which he discovered the runes. Odinthen taught the goddess Freya, the wisdom of the
runes, who later passed on the knowledge of rune symbolism to Heimdall, god of the Rainbow
Bridge, attributed with teaching runic characters and mystical lore to humanity.
Runic inscriptions have been found on weaponry, boulders, manuscripts, jewellery, and other
personal objects. Runes were in common use up until the Middle Ages, with runic carvings found
as far north as Iceland, and as far south as England, where runes were used by wise counsellors and
Anglo Saxon high chieftains. Although runes were used by the Vikings, earliest runic inscriptions
predate the Viking tribes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some believe runes originated from either Latin, Turkish, or Etruscan languages. Other rune
enthusiasts have theorized that runes were developed from Old Italic, or Greek, however, this
seems highly unlikely for two main reasons. Firstly, Old Italic evolved from Etruscan, an ancient
Greek alphabet which evolved from the Semitic alphabet, disseminated by the Phoenicians. The
Semitic alphabet, Old Italic, and Greek alphabets, commence with the characters, Alpha and Beta.
These two letters are distinctly absent from all early runic inscriptions. Secondly, the oldest rune
engravings display runes that were written, and read, sometimes left to right, other times right to
left, and in some instances, both right to left and left to right in the same inscription. It was not
until the runic alphabet converged with Roman imperialism, that runes were predominantly written
and read, left to

American Politics And The United States Congress Essay
Over the last several decades, American politics scholars have sought to understand the causes of
increasing partisanship and polarization in the United States Congress. Since the 1970s, the
ideological positions of the two major U.S. parties, the Democratic and Republican parties, have
widened (Abramowitz and Saunders, 2008; Levendusky; 2010). This ideological divide also
promotes a perception among the American public that Congress has increasingly become
ineffective and polarized to a point where political parties in government no longer compromise on
policy for the good of the country. In recent years, a new concern has arisen regarding unlimited
spending in electionsby outside groups permitted after the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in
Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals decision in SpeechNOW.org v.
FEC (2010) (Mann and Corroado, 2014). Both decisions allow unlimited independent expenditures
for political advertisements, ad buys, and other electioneering communications during elections.
Furthermore, there is an increase and heightened unease of outside undisclosed donors, or dark
money, who may have undue influences on political, electoral, and policy outcomes (Mann and
Corroado, 2014; Federal ElectionCommission). Thus, does independent campaign expenditures
spend have detrimental or undue influences on polarization and policy outcomes by promoting
more extreme ideological positions in congressional representation?

The Outsider
The Outsider Albert Camus
Albert Camus presents ideas of identity and the human condition in his classic novel The Outsider,
through his exploration of gender and cultural representations as well as an insight into absurdum
and existentialism. These concepts of identity and the human condition reflect on the society in
which the novella has been set, demonstrating how women, those of other cultures and those who
are considered to be different are represented. The novella tells a recollection of events of a young
man named Meursault, emotionally detached from a society where he refuses to conform to
society s conventions and in turn a refusal to play the game . The novella begins with the death of
Meursault s mother and ends with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The culture references in the novella show how culture is represented in society. Those in control
leave the culture that is not in control isolated and divided.
Death plays a major role in the novella The Outsider. The story both begins and concludes with a
death, creating the idea that death is all a part of the human condition; we all die in the end, which
reveals Camus own ideologies of absurdism. Death is explored through the structure of the
novella, through the parallels between the death of Meursault s mother in the beginning and the
lead up to his execution in the end. When Meursault s, he shows what most would consider an
unusual reaction to the death of a love one and accepts it. He shows little emotion to the subject
and demonstrates his understanding of death, it is part of our human condition and he has no
control over it. It s not my fault (page 9). Majority of this absurdist content is addressed as
Meursault awaits his execution in his prison cell. Whilst sitting there one evening, his thoughts
wonder to the memory of Marie, as he tried to reason why she hadn t written to him. It crossed
his mind that she may be ill or dead, and again like with his mother, feels no emotion towards the
possible death of his girlfriend. It was the natural order of things... I wasn t interested in her
anymore if she was dead (page 110). Meursault sees life as

Thalidomide Analysis
Analogs of thalidomide
Thalidomide has three more different type of analogs, include lenalidomide, pomalidomide and
apremilast. According to the article of Prommer (2009), the three analogs of thalidomide is
produced by the reaction of proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis and an element called TNF
О± which is tumor necrosis factor. Because of thalidomide increases the degradation of RNA to
product more amount of TNF О± and thalidomide can combine and active О±1 acid glycoproteins
with inherent anti TNF О±.
Thalidomide, lenalidomide and pomalidomide are the mechanism of multiple myeloma (MM) and
work together as a TLP. They can increase the amount of activity in T cell and anti the activity of
cancer.Lenalidomide is a second generation of immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) and can treat the
hematologic malignancies. It is less toxicity while compare with the thalidomide compound
(BioMed Central, 2009). The function of apremilast is to increase the activity of PDE4 enzyme
(Phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor) by reducing the amount of the immune and non immune cell which
are called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). In addition, by increase the amount of PDE4 it
can decreases the anti inflammatory mediators production, like, IL 10.6 which combine by

In regards to the Mueller Lyer illusion, the textbook mentions how Rivers stated that most
English saw the two lines more differently than any other cultural groups such as India or New
Guinea (Juang Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). I decided to try an experiment with the Mueller
Lyer Illusion. I decided to ask 3 close friends of mine that are typical Americans. All but one was
fooled by this illusion. Then, I decided to ask 3 friends of mine that are from a different culture,
one of them lives in Australia, one is Korean and one was Native American. My friend who lives
in Australia was fooled by this illusion, whereas the Korean and Native American friend of mine
stated it was the same length but the arrows were oppositely flipped. I thought this was extremely
interesting how each culture was either fooled or not fooled by this illusion. This proves to show
that cultures could in fact view optical illusions differently because of either how they were raised
or how they see the world in a different light than others in views on how they interpret objects. In
regards to the recognition of objects within a visual scene there are uniquely clear differences
between Americans and Japanese individuals. According to the textbook, it mentions how Masuda

scene and then to recall how many objects were within that scene and how they found that there was

Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending
despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just
as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of
hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by
repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end
seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses
repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in

This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven
who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the
raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted
with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to
draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read,
loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish
and succumbs to depression and madness.
Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is
caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34).
His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound
at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the
speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker.
Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad
uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the
reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the
speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the

soldiers were making due at the camp, conditions were far from perfection. He ordered that

that he needed help from sources outside of Valley Forge. As early as September, 1777,
Washington contacted Alexander Hamilton to ask for supplies such as clothes and blankets,
which the soldiers were in need of. He desperately wrote a letter to congress to inform them of
the harsh conditions, and asking them for any supplies that they would give to his troops. He
wrote, From my soul... I pity these miseries, which it is neither in my power to relieve or prevent

men were successful and most likely saved the army. With all of these efforts combined, his troops

Pretty In Pink Character Analysis
1.Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful are two films both written by John Hughes and
directed by Howard Deutch. They depict themes similar to that of The Breakfast Club. Central
themes such as class and popularity along with secondary themes of angst, love, self discovery,
fitting in, and the need to connect with others are prevalent throughout both of these films. Pretty in
Pinkis a prime example for the depiction of class and popularity. Its strong main characters,
Andie and Blane, contrast in both of these categories and they develop into deeper story lines as
the movie progresses. Class is a strong theme throughout the entire film and is presented in
unforgettable scenes. Everyone is nervous walking into their first big high school house party, but
the look on Andies face as her and Blane walk through the door is unforgettable. Clearly someone
of a different social status, Andie, a true fashion icon, dresses how she desires but sticks out like a
sore thumb amongst the upper class teens. No one can forget the iconic line, Nice pearls. This isn t
a dinner party, honey , uttered at Andie in this scene. The clear and evident vulnerability of Andie
shows just how uncomfortable she is in this setting along with the guiltiness of Blane for having
brought her there. Class divides their two worlds and creates conflict throughout the film. A
secondary theme that is very popular and might be controversial in the ending is love. Notable with

My Life Of My Grandmother
In 66 years, you can t imagine how much has changed in the world. When I was talking to my

I learned about was their transportation, school, and what she did for entertainment. I realized that
this world is very different than the world she grew up in and we should be grateful for what we
have.
My grandma s name is Usha Patel and she currently is 66 years old. She was born in Umalla, India
and she grew up with her brother, parents, and her grandparents. During that time period, nobody
owned phones or any type of technology. If they wanted to contact people, they would have to

roads for the vehicles to drive on. Their transportation was mostly by foot, but there were some
people with cars. Their environment wasn t that advanced yet, but there were rickshaw s for
transportation if they had to go somewhere far. My grandmother s school was in her village. By
that I mean, very close, not even miles away. Everyday she would walk to school with her
friends. Her school was a lot like ours today. My grandma did have very strict teachers, but she
also had fun. They played sports like us and they had the same subjects as we do. She had science,

The Hidden Gift Of Being An American Essay
Being able to call yourself an American is a gift, that holds hidden meanings. To me, the
definition of an American is someone who embraces both freedom and the responsibility that
comes with it. America has promised the experience of freedom in race, religion, gender, and
the right to express yourself. Americans know this reality did not occur overnight. Many
courageous people fought and are still fighting for freedom. However, the hidden meaning of
behind the reality of being an American can be demonstrated as greed and longing for wealth or
power. This hidden truth is a mask many Americans may wear, because they are to ashamed to
admit how the American Dream is changing into materials and ethics. The twenty first century is
losing the prideful gift of being an American. Frederick Douglass was a man who fought for his
freedom and faced all the responsibilities that came with it. He was heroic and lionhearted, who
had no hidden qualities. Frederick Douglass called out white Christians for their approval of
slavery on religious grounds. He believed, Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet... Show

Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and...
The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar
pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the
projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from
the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together,
the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each
strings fundamental frequency. The tuning pegis then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a
microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which
utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric
guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis
and problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other
devices out there such as Tropical Tune s Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our
design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual
hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The
copper wire design that allows for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a
convenient, easy to carry tuning device. The

The Aims Of Literature Search
The aims of literature search are multiple. For starters, it is a necessary preparation for literature
review that is to say, after searching for existing knowledge, we may have a deeper insight into
research we are going to conduct. Additionally, it is an appropriate approach to update knowledge
and identify a quite narrow gap for further investigation.
Literature searching process can be divided into 6 steps separately: choosing keywords, planning
strategy, selecting database, running search, evaluating results and saving references. (source:
lecture slides)
In order to have a deeper understanding of lender of last resort and find the gap for further
investigation, I made full use of the Catalogue Plus and found the six articles.
For starters, I entered lender of last resort the key word into the search bar and got 5986 articles.
To narrow down the scope, I used the advanced searching and chose to search for the title entered
lender of last resort, central bank into two different search bar, as a consequence, the system gave
me 1820 articles. In order to get the latest article, I selected the data newest and chose the
material type article and I got only 68 this time. Another approach I used is using database search.
After clicking the select database and choosing economics in category, then I got 26 database and

An Effective Nurse Client Relationship Essay
The nurse client relationship is said to be a helping or therapeutic relationship in which the main
focus is to enhance the health and wellbeing of the patient. As stated by Harris,Nagy and Vardaxis
(as cited in Mosby s Dictionary,2008) A nurse client relationship can be defined as a therapeutic
relationship between a nurse and client built on a series of interactions and developing over time
The relationship is different from a social relationship in the way that it is only focused on the
needs of the client/patient.The relationship is goal oriented and has 3 phases which correspond to
those of Hildegard E.Peplau which are The Orientation Phase,Working Phase and The Termination
Phase.
When discussing an effective nurse client relationship many factors are incorprated in the
establishment of this relationship among these factors are positve regard, trust and interpersonal
skills.
People will forget what you say to them. They will never forget how you made them feel This direct
quote from Maya Angelou backs up the thesis that in order to establish an effective nurse client
relationship as a nurse you must display effective interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills are vital
life skills and when used by nurses help display an ability to communicate and interact successfully
with patients/clients.
In facilitating a nurse client relationship there is a variety of different concepts we must consider
and apply in order for the nurse client relationship to be a helping and

A Hart And Ronald Dworkin s Theory Of Law
This paper will examine both H.L.A Hart and Ronald Dworkin s position in the theories of law
and will try to determine who has won the famous debate between the two. Having considered
both sides of the argument, I would have to say that Ronald Dworkin s argument was better than
H.L.A Hart s argument. In applying both Dworkin and Hart s theories of law, they come to very
different conclusions in regards to the case of Riggs v. Palmer. According to Dworkin s theory of
law, judges do not solely focus only on the rules, instead, they focus on seeking right answers.
Dworkin has many problems and disagreements with Hart s theory, one in particular is relating to
what Dworkin labels principles and policies . Dworkin defines a principle as... Show more content

Primary rules have an internal aspect to them, in which individuals have a relationship to the
rules and regard them as grounds to criticize those who violate them, making primary rules duty
imposing (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules on the other hand, are seen as supplementary to
the primary rules, which, instead of imposing duty upon individuals, they confer powers to them
(MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules are split into three different types: Rules of change (allow
public/private powers to fix old rules), adjudication (remedy for inefficiency, introduces courts
and law enforcement), and recognition (confers powers on people to identify law, and unification
of rules) (MacAlister, 2017). Another important concept within Hart s theory of law is that he
thinks judges have to their discretion. Hart proposes the idea of open texture in law, which states
that at times, the law does not cover every situation that arises and that law may run out
(MacAlister, 2017). Within this open texture, the is a clear core of certainty, where application of
the law is apparent, and beyond the core, is the penumbra, the uncertainty and indeterminacy in
law in which hard cases are based upon. As law branches out of this core of rules, it becomes
more and more indeterminate. Due to this indeterminacy, Hart believes that since there is no clear
answer written in the law, judges should have the discretion in dealing with hard cases. In the case
of Riggs, since the relevant rules of

fertility treatment
Depending on what your semen analysis reveals, the physicians at our Louisiana fertility centers

then the vas deferens are blocked or the seminal vesicles are missing.

How Did The Goths Lead To The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was one of the biggest and most influential empires in history. At its height it
looked like they would never be defeated but in the late 5th century they were. The Roman Empire
was formed and remembered by its incredible military prowess, but that military strength failed the
empire and lead to the fall of the Empire. Military defeats led to the fall of the Western Roman
Empire. The Goths came into the Empire in 376 and never left, ravaging the empire for years and
eventually sacking Rome in 410. By ravaging and sacking the empire they Goths gained
confidence and better equipment to continue to fight. The Vandals raided North Africa and stole a
major grain producer from the Western Empire which led to a loss in money... Show more content

The Goths rebelled again in 395 this time under Alaric. While this Gothic army never won any
major battles they totally defeated by the Romans. Alaric invaded Italy in 402 but was pushed
back by Stilicho. While the Romans were trying to deal with the Goths the Vandals, Suebi, and
Alans crossed the Rhine into Roman Empire. Alaric invaded Italy again in 407 and this time
Stilicho paid him 4,000 pounds in gold to leave. By paying off the Goths this made Stilicho an
enemy in the eyes of the some officials and eventually Stilicho was executed which left the West
Empire without a strong general. Eventually this led to the sack of Rome in 410. While Rome
wasn t politically important anymore it was the most symbolic city in the world at the time. People
were Roman citizens not Milanian citizens. Sacking Rome sent an enormous message not only to
the Emperor but to the other German tribes that if we can sack Rome, then anybody can sack

Cecily Von Ziegesar s Gossip Girl
Analysis: There s a peculiar trend that is beginning to appear in recent popular culture, and it has
to deal with one word: girl. Take, for example, this small list of contemporary, popular titles,
including Cecily von Ziegesar s Gossip Girl, Amy Sherman Palladino s Gilmore Girls, Gillian
Flynn s Gone Girl, Paula Hawkins The Girl on the Train, Lena Dunham s Girls, Disney Channel s
Girl Meets World, Stieg Larsson s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Fox Network s New Girl, CBS
s 2 Broke Girls, The CW s Supergirl, Tina Fey s Mean Girls... The list goes on. These popular
books, televisionshows, and movies all feature middle to upper class white girls and women in
their late teens and early twenties. The girls tend to be surrounded by drama... Show more content

A little over halfway through the novel, Gossip Girl sends out a blast which accuses N, more
commonly known as Nate Archibald, of buying marijuana in Central Park, as well as reporting
that B, Blair Waldorf, was supposedly seen buying condoms and getting a Brazilian waxing. She
ends the post by implicating that two other girls from their school are gaining too much weight
(von Ziegesar 81 82). None of these events have been proven to be true, but New York teens take
them and run with them, anyway. Rumors are spread, fights and scandals ensue, and the readers
beloved characters, inevitably, get hurt. This brings back the common theme of drama that
surrounds all of the girls and women in the girl titles mentioned earlier. Series like Gossip Girl
and Gilmore Girls are so popular because they are so easily accessible to their audience: women.
Every girl in the world has faced a scandal in her lifetime, true or not. It can cause serious
emotional, sometimes even physical, trauma that may last years. Seeing characters like the ones
in Cecily von Ziegesar s world who are seemingly perfect on the outside face the same difficulties
as other women adds complexity to their lives and allows them to be easily

Essay On Immigration Paperwork
Who wouldn t want to live and work become a U.S. citizen? However, the U.S. immigration
paperwork is something you have to contend with, and some give up midway while trying to
complete the paperwork. This reminds one of Graham Nash s songs here I am with my
immigration form: it s big enough to keep me warm the amount of paperwork is too
overwhelming. However, you can t let that put you off from your goal of becoming a U.S. citizen.
All you need to do is to think of ways and means to handle the U.S. immigration paperwork and
you are done.
How to make U.S. Immigration Paperwork Easier
The first hurdle you need to cross is to fill out the U.S. Naturalization application form, which is
actually a complex maze of U.S. immigration paperwork that can take quite a bit of your time and
lot more of your energy. Handling immigration paperwork need not be difficult, whether it is the

  • 2. Pro Drunk Driving In the United States drink driving accounts for one third of all of our driving deaths. Drunk driving has taken 10,076 people in the year 2013 alone and it will continue to rise as we remain the way we are. One person every 53 minutes dies from a drunk driving related incident, drink driving is an epidemic that can be stopped by getting someone else to drive for the impaired person. However, the more people that are drinking and driving on our roads the more dangerous they are for the rest of us. The sound of a siren, the red flashing lights and a person in uniform knocking at your driver side window. An officer has pulled you over for suspicious driving. The solution to this problem seems far away and unreachable with our current society that remains drunk with their love of alcohol and claims they are lucid enough to operate a motor vehicle with some kind of skill. Ending drinking and driving are nearly impossible but we can stave off the effects by lessening those who do it. Creating a society of those who do not drink and drive would lead to an increase of wealth and governmental prosperity to a certain extent. Her physical appearance makes it easy for her to appear innocent, as most associate beauty with innocence, and also ties in with Miller s ending where she become a prostitute, using her looks to survive. • 4. Friendship Between George Washington And Marquis De Lafayette Throughout history, friendships have formed amongst important leaders that in turn propelled history into greatness. Starting in the Greek and Roman times, Roman Emperor Octavian with best friend and defense minister Marcus Agrippa worked together to develop Rome into a major global power. Similarly, the friendship between Meriwether Lewis and William Clark allowed for the exploration and development of western America as it is formed now ( 10 of History s Greatest Bromances , Mandatory.com). Even the friendship between activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton propelled the women s rights movement to equality (Bower, Life123.com). But one friendship that is a little less known, but seemingly the most important to history, is that between George Washingtonand Marquis de Lafayette. This powerful friendship allowed for the successful outcome of the American Revolution by providing strong leadership and wisdom to American armies. This pair of generals changed the course of history simply through their bond as friends. Marie Joseph Paul Yves Gilbert du Motier, or Marquis de Lafayette, was born on September 6th, 1757. Unfortunately, by the age of 12, Lafayette s entire family had passed away and he was left an orphan but an orphan with a sizeable inheritance. Following in his father s footsteps, a royal navy general, when Lafayette turned 16 he joined the Royal Army in France. Two years later he married into the Royal family and therefore made himself a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Reflection Of My Education In The Landscape Architecture Presentations, Methods, and Media has truly been a gateway to what I believe to be the rest of my education in the Landscape Architecture program. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this class. It acts as the training wheels for our design, style, technique, and literacy in the field. If we didn t have a baseline built by this class I personally, as well as many of my peers would quite honestly be lost. I came into the class thinking I had a great baseline knowledge of plans and much of what went into the design process of a landscape; I was wrong. The first thing I thought upon seeing the name Presentations, Methods, and Media was that I would be in a lecture style class learning about how landscapes had been done over the years, yet again I was wrong. The first thing Taze, a then quite intimidating individual, handed us was a pop quiz on patterns easy enough, or so I thought. After about two patterns, I realized I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, nor what half of the patterns meant. The whole class failing the quiz didn t start my first impression of the class off well, but I was reassured by Taze each and everyone would soon be masters of the then daunting patterns. We practiced for days upon days until the strokes slowly became memory. We worked in and out of class to better our skills at the same patterns over and over again, to the point I thought we wouldn t do anything else, I was wrong about that one too. The strokes now seem to be memory and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ggfghj CHAP T E R 1 Introduction to Conflict Resolution: Concepts and Deп¬Ѓnitions In this third edition of our book we bring the survey of the conflict resolution п¬Ѓeld up to date at the beginning of the second decade of the twenty п¬Ѓrst century. Conflict resolution as a deп¬Ѓned specialist п¬Ѓeld came of age in the post Cold War era. It also found itself face to face with fundamental new challenges, many of which have come into even sharper focus since the п¬Ѓrst and second editions of this book. Why a Third Edition? The п¬Ѓrst edition of the book (1999) was written at a time when, despite setbacks, conflict resolution approaches in peacekeeping, peacemaking and peacebuilding were widely seen for the п¬Ѓrst time to be central in global politics in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Institutions to study the п¬Ѓeld were established, and their number rapidly increased. The п¬Ѓeld developed its own subdivisions, with different groups studying international crises, internal wars, social conflicts and approaches ranging from negotiation and mediation to experimental games. By the 1980s, conflict resolution ideas were increasingly making a difference in real conflicts. In South Africa, for example, the Centre for Intergroup Studies was applying the approaches that had emerged in the п¬Ѓeld to the developing confrontation between apartheid and its challengers, with impressive results. In the Middle East, a peace process was getting under way in which negotiators on both sides had gained experience both of each other and of conflict resolution through problem solving workshops. In Northern Ireland, groups inspired by the new approach had set up community relations initiatives that were not only reaching across community divides but were also becoming an accepted responsibility of local government. In war torn regions of Africa and South East Asia, development workers and humanitarian agencies were seeing the need to take account of conflict and conflict resolution as an integral part of their activities. By the closing years of the Cold War, the climate for conflict resolution was changing radically. With relations between the superpowers improving, the ideological and military competition that had fuelled many regional conflicts was fading away. Protracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Applications Of Knx Logging Section In keeping with the above requirements and considering the findings of the Current Applications of KNX Logging section (p. 10), having a separate logging service and user interface seems the most logical solution. Separating the GUI and the logger would allow for the KNX bus to be logged with a background process, rather than require an application to be running in the foreground when logging. Figure 2.3 1 illustrates the overall solution proposed in this section. The diagram shows the KNX network, the KNX to serial module, the host server, the logging service, the database, the user interface and finally the user; it illustrates how these components of the logger system will interact with each other. In this proposal, a basic KNX network has been developed with various actuators and sensors. The sensors are more important in the example network as these are the modules from which the telegrams to be recorded originate. The KNX bus has a KNX to PC module which connects the KNX network to a computer, these sorts of module will be discussed in greater depth later but generally are used to connect a KNX network to another device via USB in order to configure or otherwise manipulate the KNX network. The KNX to PC module connects the KNX network to a server. The server hosts the logging service which is used to record all information on the KNX bus in a data store. In Figure 2.3 1 the data store is shown to be hosted on the server as well, however this is something which may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Etruscans Research Paper Topic: Evaluate the theories concerning the origins of the Etruscan people. The Etruscans were a powerful and influential civilisation of the ancient world, and are even credited by some as the founders of Rome. However, despite the large footprint they left on western society, to this day there is still debate over where the Etruscans actually came from. This question has been disputed for millennia. The ancient historian Herodotus of Halicarnassus, wrote in The Histories that the Etruscans immigrated from Lydia, in western Turkey after 18 years of famine. The possibility of the Etruscans being immigrants is often disregarded in favour of the theory of another ancient historian, Dionysius. Dionysius of Halicarnassus lived approximately 300 ... Educating For Citizenship And Democracy Educating for citizenship and democracy In general, education has two purpose, one is for individual development, another is for social and nation needs. Development of individuals through education is well known, such as getting a high paid job, being more intelligent, having a more successful life. But individual and social aims of educationare complementary to one another. However, I believe educating for citizenshipand democracyis one of the most important aims because education is not only about learning, but also how to use the knowledge, skills and values to actively participate in community and social development, to make our world a better place. Citizenship education is about enabling people to have a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Developing citizenship not only involves general knowledge studying such as reading and writing, but also requires the development of citizens capable of engaging in critical thinking, problem solving, knowing their rights and responsibilities, components of laws and institutions, etc. They need the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to plan and make the change, and education is the best and most efficient way to provide the knowledge, behaviours and skills for individuals. Education produce ideal citizens for the country, and make the country have competitive advantage as the same time that citizens living high quality lives. It is in my opinion that educating citizens is a win win strategy for both individuals and the country, because on one hand it could bring individuals financial benefits, and on another hand it could develop those individuals to be great citizens. Since education is important to a nation, aims of education must be consistent with national goals and values. Education itself does not have aims, it is parents, teachers, and society that hold aims for it (Barantovich et al., 2004). This is how the nation is making sure education is working for them, by setting them. Though it may have its downsides when considering citizenship education as the aim. • 11. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool that benefits not only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys to decide cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both the prosecutor and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the defense attorney would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crimecontrol and the due process model. Plea Bargaining What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. Both of the pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be used as admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011).... The debate is always should he have been killed or should he have lived and lead us to more victories. The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De Vita Caesarum, Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his life. Suetonius wrote the biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote about the Roman Empire. It was written in 110 CE. It was written to show the side of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors. It is trustworthy because Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to provide a lot of information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of Caesar because he wrote it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts Caesar in a bad light because the senators did not like Caesar. Considering that the article was written based off of the senators, it put Caesar in a bad light. Meaning that this author did not want Caesar to live. Another document that was used was a secondary source. It was an article written in the Britannica Student Encyclopedia. It was written for the public to read and understand Julius Caesar. This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Observation Of Classroom Behavior Observation Summary Essay Throughout my observations I saw many differences in both the behavior level of the students, as well as the intellectual abilities of students. During my time I also observed many successful teaching methods and only one unsuccessful one. Along with my observations of the student s behavior and their intelligence levels, I also saw many of the consistencies associated with what has been presented in our class. The behavior of the students is what I saw the most difference in. The behavior of the students varied between all of the classes I observed, but the freshmen class had significantly worse behavior than all the rest. The cognitive abilities of the students I witnesses also varied by class, but not nearly as much as the behavior levels did. To no surprise, the senior level class was by far the best behaved and the most intelligent; however, the extent of their good behavior still astounded me. Throughout my observations I got to see firsthand many of the ideas we discussed in class play out. I saw signs of increased likeliness to engage in risky behavior, with the freshman class being the most likely to engage; however, one of the 8th grade classes also showed signs of their increased likeliness to engage in risky behavior. I also got to see some of the seniors show themselves socially transitioning from middle adolescence into more adult and late adolescent roles. Legend describes how Odin hung himself from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, speared himself, and for nine days and nights, Odin travelled to and from the edge of death; a painful, mystical journey of self sacrifice and self awareness on which he discovered the runes. Odinthen taught the goddess Freya, the wisdom of the runes, who later passed on the knowledge of rune symbolism to Heimdall, god of the Rainbow Bridge, attributed with teaching runic characters and mystical lore to humanity. Runic inscriptions have been found on weaponry, boulders, manuscripts, jewellery, and other personal objects. Runes were in common use up until the Middle Ages, with runic carvings found as far north as Iceland, and as far south as England, where runes were used by wise counsellors and Anglo Saxon high chieftains. Some believe runes originated from either Latin, Turkish, or Etruscan languages. Other rune enthusiasts have theorized that runes were developed from Old Italic, or Greek, however, this seems highly unlikely for two main reasons. Firstly, Old Italic evolved from Etruscan, an ancient Greek alphabet which evolved from the Semitic alphabet, disseminated by the Phoenicians. The Semitic alphabet, Old Italic, and Greek alphabets, commence with the characters, Alpha and Beta. These two letters are distinctly absent from all early runic inscriptions. Secondly, the oldest rune engravings display runes that were written, and read, sometimes left to right, other times right to left, and in some instances, both right to left and left to right in the same inscription. It was not until the runic alphabet converged with Roman imperialism, that runes were predominantly written and read, left to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. American Politics And The United States Congress Essay Over the last several decades, American politics scholars have sought to understand the causes of increasing partisanship and polarization in the United States Congress. Since the 1970s, the ideological positions of the two major U.S. parties, the Democratic and Republican parties, have widened (Abramowitz and Saunders, 2008; Levendusky; 2010). This ideological divide also promotes a perception among the American public that Congress has increasingly become ineffective and polarized to a point where political parties in government no longer compromise on policy for the good of the country. In recent years, a new concern has arisen regarding unlimited spending in electionsby outside groups permitted after the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals decision in SpeechNOW.org v. FEC (2010) (Mann and Corroado, 2014). Both decisions allow unlimited independent expenditures for political advertisements, ad buys, and other electioneering communications during elections. Furthermore, there is an increase and heightened unease of outside undisclosed donors, or dark money, who may have undue influences on political, electoral, and policy outcomes (Mann and Corroado, 2014; Federal ElectionCommission). Death plays a major role in the novella The Outsider. Death is explored through the structure of the novella, through the parallels between the death of Meursault s mother in the beginning and the lead up to his execution in the end. • 30. Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and succumbs to depression and madness. Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker. Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the ... • 42. An Effective Nurse Client Relationship Essay The nurse client relationship is said to be a helping or therapeutic relationship in which the main focus is to enhance the health and wellbeing of the patient. As stated by Harris,Nagy and Vardaxis (as cited in Mosby s Dictionary,2008) A nurse client relationship can be defined as a therapeutic relationship between a nurse and client built on a series of interactions and developing over time The relationship is different from a social relationship in the way that it is only focused on the needs of the client/patient.The relationship is goal oriented and has 3 phases which correspond to those of Hildegard E.Peplau which are The Orientation Phase,Working Phase and The Termination Phase. When discussing an effective nurse client relationship many factors are incorprated in the establishment of this relationship among these factors are positve regard, trust and interpersonal skills. People will forget what you say to them. They will never forget how you made them feel This direct quote from Maya Angelou backs up the thesis that in order to establish an effective nurse client relationship as a nurse you must display effective interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills are vital life skills and when used by nurses help display an ability to communicate and interact successfully with patients/clients. In facilitating a nurse client relationship there is a variety of different concepts we must consider and apply in order for the nurse client relationship to be a helping and ... • 43. A Hart And Ronald Dworkin s Theory Of Law This paper will examine both H.L.A Hart and Ronald Dworkin s position in the theories of law and will try to determine who has won the famous debate between the two. Having considered both sides of the argument, I would have to say that Ronald Dworkin s argument was better than H.L.A Hart s argument. In applying both Dworkin and Hart s theories of law, they come to very different conclusions in regards to the case of Riggs v. Palmer. According to Dworkin s theory of law, judges do not solely focus only on the rules, instead, they focus on seeking right answers. Dworkin has many problems and disagreements with Hart s theory, one in particular is relating to what Dworkin labels principles and policies . Dworkin defines a principle as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Primary rules have an internal aspect to them, in which individuals have a relationship to the rules and regard them as grounds to criticize those who violate them, making primary rules duty imposing (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules on the other hand, are seen as supplementary to the primary rules, which, instead of imposing duty upon individuals, they confer powers to them (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules are split into three different types: Rules of change (allow public/private powers to fix old rules), adjudication (remedy for inefficiency, introduces courts and law enforcement), and recognition (confers powers on people to identify law, and unification of rules) (MacAlister, 2017). Another important concept within Hart s theory of law is that he thinks judges have to their discretion. Hart proposes the idea of open texture in law, which states that at times, the law does not cover every situation that arises and that law may run out (MacAlister, 2017). Within this open texture, the is a clear core of certainty, where application of the law is apparent, and beyond the core, is the penumbra, the uncertainty and indeterminacy in law in which hard cases are based upon. As law branches out of this core of rules, it becomes more and more indeterminate. Due to this indeterminacy, Hart believes that since there is no clear answer written in the law, judges should have the discretion in dealing with hard cases. In the case of Riggs, since the relevant rules of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Roman Empire was formed and remembered by its incredible military prowess, but that military strength failed the empire and lead to the fall of the Empire. Military defeats led to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The Goths came into the Empire in 376 and never left, ravaging the empire for years and eventually sacking Rome in 410.
