The Key Drivers Of Growth Behind Our Prison Population
The primary purpose of prison is to protect the community and rehabilitate the offender (Smart
Justice, 2015). Research has indicated that prison fails to do this and instead can increase the rate
of reoffending (Smart Justice, 2015). Prison does not address the causes of the person s criminal
offending. Imprisonment is designed to be a sentence of last resort, yet we are building more
prisons at an ever increasing rate (Smart Justice, 2015). In Victoria, annually, the prisonsystem cost
more than $1 billion (Glass, 2014). It cost more than $98, 000 to house a prisoner each year
(SCRGSP, 2015).
It is important to discuss the key drivers of growth behind our prison population. While the crime
rate has not increased, our prison population has (Kilgore, 2015). Tougher on crime policies have
been a contributing factor to the increase in the prison population (Department of Justice, 2011).
Abolishment of alternative sentences, including intensive corrections orders (ICO), suspended
sentences and home detention orders (HDO), have been a contributing factor to the increased
prison population (Kilgore, 2016). Prior to the abolishment of suspended sentences from the
period 2009 to 2012, the Victorian prison population increased by 11% (Glass, 2014). The
following period 2012 2014, it increased to 25% (Glass, 2014).The parole reforms recommended by
Ian Callinan have seen 95% of applications being denied (Glass, 2014). Reforms to the bail
legislation have seen an increase of accused

The Prime Minister Of Canada
In 2014 Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the 15th Prime Minister of Canada, was listed in CBC s Top 10
list of Canadian Heroes; but was Trudeau really a hero? (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/top 10
canadian heroes list includes pierre trudeau jack layton 1.2676398). Pierre Trudeau, born in
Montreal in 1919, started out in politics as a layer in Quebecand as an activist in Quebec politics. In
the 1960s Trudeau got involved in federal politics with the Liberal party. In 1968 he became the
leader of the party and was elected as Prime Minister of Canada. Trudeau remained in office from

The Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism was released in 1967, giving
recommendations to the federal government on steps to be taken for equality across ethnicities.
The primary recommendation was for the implantation of a policy for official bilingualism,
making both English and French of equal importance in Canada (Language rights and judicial
wrongs: Official bilingualism jurisprudence in Canada s provincial courts. Pg 11). The report also
recommended that bilingualism be increased in all of the provinces. Once Pierre Trudeau gained
office one of his first things on his agenda was to bring in the Official Languages Act (OLA) in
1969, making both French and English equally recognized in Canada. Trudeau did not support the
nationalists in Quebec with their goal of separatism and this was his way to make French
Canadians feel they were of greater importance to the county (Language rights and judicial wrongs:
Official bilingualism jurisprudence in Canada s provincial courts. Pg 12). Trudeau saw that this
policy should strengthen national unity in Canada through various ways. It was thought that
making the French speaking of equal importance as the English speaking in Canada it would
reduce the rising pressure coming from Quebec to separate from Canada.. The bilingualism was
also a hope that across Canada communications would become easier due to the knocking

The Pros And Cons Of The Bombing Of Hiroshima
I think that It was a good idea for the U.S to drop the bombs on Hiroshima. One reason why I
think it was a good idea is because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and expected us to not hit
back. Secondly, if we did not bomb them there would have been millions of lives lost instead of
just thousands. Third, the U.S needed a way to end the war quickly so the Soviet Union did not
march into Japan. Lastly, the Japanese would not surrender so they had to get them to surrender.
The Japanese provoked the U.S to drop the atomic bomb on them by bombing pearl harbor and
killing people and sinking ships. If the U.S did not drop the bomb and did a land evasion millions
of American lives would have been lost but if they dropped the two bombs only thousands

My Strongest Process Piece
The Express and Reflect essay is my strongest process piece. This essay was about me coming
out and how it affected me. The first draft was terrible, but after I revised my paper I improved a
lot and learned from my mistakes. My introduction is amazing and really catches the reader s
attention. For example, The night I met her I knew she was special. I instantly fell in love with
her. She had long, wavy, brown hair that made her skin glow. My eyes met her bright, shiny,
emerald green eyes, which left me speechless. The beginning of that paragraph describes the
person perfectly. The reader has an idea of what the essayis going to be about just from reading the
first couple of sentences. This is my strongest piece because I expressed myself in the essay. The
reader got to learn information about me that many people don t know. I also reflected how coming
out affected my life and relationship with loved ones.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this essay I wrote about a car accident I witnessed this past summer. I still have some comma
issues. For instance, The man lost all control of the car, it was in the right lane and it shot all the
way across to the left lane. I am missing a comma after lane and before and. I did inform the
reader about what I had witnessed and explained the accident to the reader clearly. However, I
could do more showing than telling. I could of added imagery in my essay. Also, in the essay I
did not clarify who the lady in the convertible was yelling at. I said, She looked very angry and
was yelling at him, pushing him, and slapping him. The reader could be confused because they
don t know who this man is. The woman was yelling and hitting the man driving. It s not my
weakest piece, but I could improve this essay so it could be

Management Roles Paper
Management Roles paper

December 17th, 2011
Management roles are different in each organization depending on the size of the organization.
The following paper will discuss the management roles in a business with less than 50 employees
and a business with more than 500 employees. A brief overview of each organization will be
given along with a description of the hierarchical organization of each. Why or why not the
hierarchical organization of each business works or not will also be discussed and the IT function
of each business. Management roles in a business with less than 50 employees have the same
functions as a manager in a business with more than 500 employees; ... Show more content on

The employee turnover ratio is less and overall work is at a more manageable level. The IT
function of a 7 eleven store would consist of connection of hardware and software, networking,
and maintenance. A business with more than 500 employees poses more of a challenge to be
successful and profitable. The business I chose with more than 500 employees is Wal Mart. Wal
Mart stores are located all over the United States and is a retail store that specializes in
everything from groceries to new car tires. The hierarchical organization of Wal Mart stores
from top down on a store level would be: Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Department
Managers, Team Leader, and Store associate. (Walmart Corporate, 2011). The hierarchical
organization for Wal Mart does not work in my opinion, because of the high turnover rate of
employees working for this organization. I previously was employed by Wal Mart and lasted
three years. In those three years it was almost like a revolving door of employees getting hired
and fired by the company, management included. Although Wal Mart is one of the most successful
retail store chains in the world, in order to climb the corporate ladder and maintain is a very hard
job to do. The IT function for Wal Mart is a very tedious one including networking, technical
support, installation of hardware and software, training, and maintenance of web sites. With stores

Persuasive Essay About Camping
Being outdoors is an amazing solution to spending time with family and friends. It is a fun
approach to mingling and enjoying quality time with them. In addition to that, you are outside
spending time in nature. Taking a break from your everyday life to enjoy what mother nature
provides for us, has many advantages. But, before you start heading to the campground, you should
know of all the positive aspects that you will get once you get outdoors.
It is important to have good company in order to make the camping trip worthwhile and full of
memory making opportunities. It can also be great for those who prefer to have some peace and
quiet time alone. This also gives us a moment to witness and experience nature first hand, and to
take a break from all the distractions of the faster pace lifestyle. Camping is an opportunity to get
away from the usual day to day routine and to get involved with something new and exciting.
Although most people might think that going on a camping trip is too much of a hassle and a time
consuming activity, there are several tips from camping experts and enthusiasts on how to make
the camping experience easy and enjoyable. Camping should be thoroughly executed in order to
prevent speed bumps from turning into full blown issues along the way. When all the check lists
and to do lists are executed properly, campers can truly maximize the overall positive outcome of
the camping experience.
The right gear, the right protection, and a menu of a healthy variety of foods should be considered
when going on a camping trip. You should make sure your personal information is up to date and
inform close friends or family of your trip. Bringing the right type of equipment such as flashlights,
sleeping bags, emergency kit, protection, using the right and comfortable backpack, wearing the
right footwear and clothes, etc. are all essential to enjoying and feeling secured during whole
experience.
It is true that you do not have to take a lavish vacation to wind down and take a load of your
shoulders. Of course, you can witness the great outdoors and enjoy the beauty it possesses. Also,
more and more people are temporarily ditching the electronics and taking advantage of all the
benefits that camping

Romanticism And Romanticism
In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if
she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If he tags a girl likes the sun,
which means he is not seeing anything else, seeing nothing but only that girl in his eyes. Just a
few short words that have great train wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of love
frantically, can claw up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the
feeling like me, the Romantic era got me in.
The major strides give people a better understanding of the human person the central figure of art, a
better understanding of the relationship between human nature, and also society. In this context
appeared more likely, many artistic movements, what s including Romanticism, are present in the
field of literature, painting, music... Romanticism comes from the romances of medieval times,
which to refer to knights, heroes, and distant lands, unfinished love ... It s the result of emotional
expression, subjective mood of the people, by reflecting the dreams and aspirations of ordinary
people should rise above reality.
The Wuthering Height by Emily Bronte is a diamond in the treasures of English literature. At the
beginning of the novel, it was a little sleepy and we would see some strange things in the house
with Heathcliff, who was a very understanding person. However, a little chapter later, we would
become increasingly drawn into the novel.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen
As a reader in the 1990 s it s tempting to see Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen as
revolutionary and ahead of its time. She proposes the complete professionalization of the nutritive
and execretive functions of society, a radical, if not revolutionary notion. However, in the light of
the fin de siecle birth of the modern feminist movement, Gilman is but one voice in many crying
for economic and social justice for women. In effect, the rhetorical situation of 1898 demanded
and created this discourse as it does all discourse (Bitzer 5). Gilman s Cupid is a natural and elegant
response to the conditions which created it: the continuing surplus of unmarried ... Show more

This event also inspired Gilman s work. In this respect, Gilman s Cupid is neither revolutionary
nor ahead of its time. That it bemoans the status of women in society and demands new
opportunities for employment makes this piece more typical than remarkable. That is not to say
that it is trivial. Gilman s book was both topical and significant in 1898. But what s most
interesting in the 1990 s is how her work differs from that of her contemporaries. What makes it
stand out? How is it revolutionary, and why has it been anthologized? To answer these questions,
the reader must follow the work to where the energy in the prose leads. This calls for a close
examination of the most striking feature of her work, the proposal itself.
Gilman s vision is revolutionary, and in some respects, prophetic. She proposes that the domestic
chores of cleaning and nutrition be professionalized. Because they are so important, she argues,
these tasks should be performed by well educated and trained professionals. She suggests that urban
families living in flats and apartments could eat at a central, professionally staffed kitchen. In the
suburbs, several houses could be linked by a kitchen in a similar way (Gilman 217 19).
Her system offers several advantages. Obviously, people s nutritional requirements could be better
met by a centralized, professionally staffed kitchen. In all

The Templars And Alchemical Philosopher s Stone
Pike is claiming that the symbolism associated with the Templars and Freemasonry is veiled and
misunderstood by the masses also reflects the idea that the alchemical Philosopher s Stone was
simply a rouse created by alchemists to confuse the masses and mask their true and secret methods
and sciences. However, this doesn t answer the Chinon manuscript s claim that a certain Templar
possessed a severed idol head. Is this the secret treasure that the Templars are said to have found?
We can gain more clarity on this subject from Sean Martin in The Knights Templar
(p. 139):
Misunderstanding is almost certainly at the root of the allegation that the Templars worshipped
an idol called Baphomet. Descriptions of it varied, but it was usually described as being a life sized
head, which was said to make the land fertile (as is said of the Grail). That the Templars did
possess heads is without doubt. They possessed the head of St ... Show more content on

The very word Diwali brings alive a vibrant splash on the blank canvas of our mind. Idyllically, the
festival of Diwali is meant for a joyous celebration with carefree attitude. However, the meaning
of Series of Light has changed over the years as commercialization has crept in and with it
hazardous products have been introduced. In this fun and frolic, Diwali does not stand for
everything beautiful and magical. The festival symbolizes triumph of good over evil and of right
over wrong. However, over the recent years, this auspicious day has also turned out to be a strain

Propaganda Techniques Today s Advertising By Anne Mcclintock
In the essay, Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Anne McClintock, McClintock
shows seven different ways that propaganda is used. One mostly used by advertisement today
would be Glittering Generalities, using positive words to bring attraction to their product while
concealing the actual meanings. They will use inspiring words that are very vague that the
consumer would not really understand what the product would really do to benefit them but
would be inspired to buy it anyways. Another technique mostly used would be Testimonial, were
producers would pay celebrities to advertise their product for them since they have more fame
than normal actors. Advertisement used today is targeted to make the consumer believe that
what they are paying for is the real deal when it is only beneficial for the producers.
Advertisements are used to promote a product by the positive effects enthusiastically but when
describing the side effects they are done fast and in small letters. When one watches a
commercial in the television, or hears it on the radio, one mostly hears the what the producers
wants them to hear. They will explain their product, giving the pros of what it was made to do
and how its a better option than other products in the market. When they are done with their sale
at the very end most of commercials give you in small font the rest of the financial information,
additional fees, or even side effects with a very fast voice most of the time reading it to you.

The poem Beginning was written by a man named James Wright.
On December 13, 1927, James Arlington Wright was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio. His mother
left school at fourteen to work in a laundry and his father worked for over fifty years at a glass
factory. Both of James s parents never attended school after the eighth grade. While in high school
in 1943 James suffered a nervous breakdown and missed a year of school. When he graduated in
1946 he decided a year later to joined the army and then he was stationed in Japan during the
American occupation. later on in his life He then attended Kenyon College on the G.I. Bill, and
studied under John Crowe Ransom. James witnessed a lot of human suffering which profoundly
influenced his connection for writing poetry. This was a way for him to discuss his political and

Palladio s Influence On America
Prior to writing his four published book on architecture Palladio had written two different books
that was based on architecture. These books were published in 1554 in Rome while he was
visiting Daniele Barbaro. Essentially the purpose of the books was to serve as guidebooks for
historical monuments within Rome. The first book he had written contained short descriptions for
travelers that discussed the appearance and history of classical ruins. His guidebook was actually
a replacement for an older medieval guidebook, which focused more on the mythical side of Rome.
Palladio s book stood out because he pertained more to factual information rather than fictional.

His design features such as porticos, classical orders, and dwellings have inspired many American
architects to recreate these designs in their buildings. As previously mentioned, porticos represent
the importance of the residents and enhanced the architecture. The Frascati building in Virginia
proves that the portico served as a symbol of importance because the resident was a member of
the U.S. Supreme Court. This buildings portico is almost identical to Palladio s Villa Emo s.
There are many other buildings in America that have integrated this feature into their designs
following Palladio s principles. Nevertheless there are other modern day architects who did not
follow his principles and the porticos are unsymmetrical. Although some have failed to follow his
principles there are some buildings that portray his designs well. An example of an American
building with a portico is Whitehall. The portico is located in the central section of the building.
Along with the portico the architect of this building incorporated Corinthian columns into the
design, a classical order that was seen in many of Palladio s

Eminent Domain Essay
Student name

Introduction
Question: Is the policy of eminent domain providing for the public welfare, through the taking of
privately owned property, using a rightful procedure involving due process and just compensation
as it was intended to do when the policy was founded?
Eminent domain is the inherent power of the government to take over a citizen s property for public
use without the owner s consent. Initially, this public policy originated in the Middle Ages
throughout the world. It became part of the British common law before reaching the United States
where it was then illustrated in the US Constitution in 1791 (Britannica: eminent domain). The Fifth
Amendment granted the federal government the right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constitution puts it out clear that the person whose private property has been seized for
public use is entitled to just compensation, which is a fair current cash market value of the
property in question. This is quoted to be the price that a willing buyer would give and a willing
seller would accept for the property. This is why it is referred to as the fair price because it was
where the buyer and seller would reach at a consensus. Eminent Domain has affected very many
people across all the counties in the United States of America each and every year. One such
instance is that which occurred in 2002 in Long Beach, NJ. At this time, the government promised a
number of redevelopment projects in efforts to try and improve the lakeside community.
Uncountable number of locals, even the lifelong residents who knew long beach as their home fell
victims of eviction. This was done with false promises from the government that there was an
oncoming improvement in the financial environment and the improvement of the general aesthetic
value of the town. Instead, a massive block of several up market shops sprouted that the locals
never came to realizing their dreams of reaping direct benefits from the projects. Instead, it was the

Separation of Powers in the Commowealth
This doctrine was formulated by French philosopher Montesquieu who theorized that abuse of
powers by the three branches would be checked through separating the branches functionally and
physically. This means no branch should perform function of the other and no person can hold
office simultaneously in the branches.
However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the
Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996
189 CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme
courts rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013).
In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial
power and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court
exercises non judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have
explicit separation of powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial
federal powers with non judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. States
courts can still exercise their independence since they have some discretion in some matters.
Looking at the separation of powers in States such as Queensland, there are unique features.
Commonwealth Constitution confers separation of powers but States do not have constitutional
separation of powers. Influence of executive on

In response David Cameron said, I regret to say that I do not think there will be government

Which makes his motive immoral and pointless. The Conservative MP Simon Hart, welcomed
David Cameron s decision by saying Given cross party recognition that there are failings in the
hunting act that need to be addressed this seems a sensible way forward Is it really sensible to go
forward with slaughtering foxes in a barbaric way? Is it really sensible to chase these inferior foxes

Some people justify this inhumane doing with the claim that foxhounds have been trained to kill

a class of molecules called the catecholamines , which serve as neurotransmitters and hormones. In
the brain, dopamine serves as a neurotransmitter and is released from nerve cells to send signals to
other nerves. Dopaminehas already been proven to have roles in thinking, memory, movement and
reward. However, researchers have shown that dopaminergic neurotransmission plays a central role
in modulating painperception and analgesia within certain parts of the brainincluding the insula,
thalamus, basal ganglia, anterior cingulate cortex and periaqueductal gray. In cases of acute pain
suffered after an injury, pain signals are sent from the site of

E Books And E Ink Readers
E books and e ink readers have a number of weaknesses when compared to a more traditional
paper book. Most of these are addressed by the Kindle in one way or another but one of them that
had not yet been addressed was the ability to loan books. One of the great things about owning a
great book is recommending it to friends and letting them read it. Amazon has made a first step
towards fixing that problem though it is not a perfect first step. First is understanding what you can
do. Amazon will allow you to loana Kindle book for 14 days. During that time you will not be able
to read the book yourself. In addition you will only be able to loan Kindle books which have
that feature enabled and you will only be able to loan a book once. Finally, if your not in the USA
you are currently not able to do this at all. These limitations are almost certainly concessions with
publishers, but they still limit the value of these service considerable. In order to loan a book you
need to open amazon.comand go to the manage your kindle section. There you will be able to see
all of the books that you have bought from amazon. Next to each of the books is a + sign to
expand. Click that and you will see more information. If you are able to loan it there will be a
button there which says Loan this book . Click on that and you ll enter the email address of the
person you want to loan the book to. You will also need to enter your name and have the option of
adding a personal note. If you

The King James Version Bible

To Preach or Not to Preach
The King James version bible states in Genesis 1:26 27 that Gods image is shared equally by
women and men . Exodus 36:1 says, use your skills to honor God . Despite what the bible seems to
be saying, women do not have the same opportunities as men in Christian religious settings.
Imagine a woman in the Christian faith who has the qualifications to preach the word of God and
the eagerness to serve the Lord. Logically, she should be awarded the job position. However, she is
not even considered for that opportunity. In multiple recurring instances, the church congregation
has discriminated against women, not allowing them to have the same opportunities as the men in
the community. These women are not only discriminated against, but are scoffed at, even penalized
for wanting these positions. Women should not be penalized for having faith in the Lord and
wanting to share it with others. The bible states how both women and men are equal and are to use
the skills they have to honor God. The congregation should not limit these human resources to only
men, when highly qualified and respected women are willing and able to serve. Gender
discrimination is a problem in Christian Churches because women who are qualified are unable to
access jobs, are experiencing emotional stress, and are being penalized for wanting changes within
the church.
Historically, the bible has multiple

Analysis Of Hassan Nasrallah s Speech
A discourse analysis of one of Hassan Nasrallah s speeches
Introduction
Hizbullah, a main political party in Lebanon, is affecting the social world by promoting their
ideological and political position. Although all the countries surrounding Lebanon are facing
conflicts and war, we are still taking neutrality as a Lebanese government. However, Hizbullah are
deeply involved in the conflict happing in Syria, leading a huge military action outside the
Lebanese borders. Hizbullah s General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah has always been a highly
appreciated leader with substantial followers. His decision to support the Syrian regime affected the
internal politics of Lebanon. However, NAsrallah s political performances and his skillful use of

In paragraph three, we can see that Nasrallah began congratulating the people for the day of
Liberation and praising his fighters for the great victorious achievement. He manages to combine
his charismatic leadership and the general ideological principles to show that he is obeyed from
all the people. However, he used deligitimization to present every opponent as a supporter for
terrorists and highlights the cruel acts they have done. Nasrallah (2015) states we are not talking
about intentions. ISIL sheds blood, demolishes, kills, rapes, rake woman as prisoners, slaughters...
This strong description of actions done by the enemy construct the difference between them in a
way of blaming and accusing them of terrorism. However, he never mentioned if what Hizbullah s
fighters are doing in the Syrian war. He tried to take his audience away from providing them
information of how fighters of Hizbullah are also killing innocent people in this war. Therefore, he

Information Driven Technique For Extortion
Misrepresentation, waste, and manhandle in the social insurance framework are evaluated at $700
billion yearly. Prescient investigation offers government and private payers the chance to recognize
and avoid or recoup such billings. This paper proposes an information driven technique for extortion
location taking into account similar examination, misrepresentat ion cases, and writing survey.
Unsupervised information mining procedures for example, anomaly discovery are recommended as
compelling indicators for extortion. In view of a multi dimensional information model produced for
Medicaidclaim information, particular measurements for dental suppliers were created and assessed
in investigative examinations utilizing exception identification connected to claim, supplier, and
patient information in a state Medicaid program. The proposed strategy empowered effective
recognizable proof of fake action, with 12 of the main 17 suspicious suppliers (71%) alluded to
authorities for examination with obviously strange and unseemly action. Future examination is in
progress to extend the strategy to different strengths and empower its utilization by extortion
experts.

INTRO
Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare where the main character, Hamlet,
Thesis: In William Shakespeare s Hamlet mythological and biblical allusions informs us of Hamlet s
inevitable fall.
Throughout the play, Hamlet uses many mythological allusions to show his feelings towards
other characters such as Claudius, Gertrude and the old king as well as inform us of his fall .
After Queen Gertrude is re married to Claudius, Hamlet shows his feelings when he compares the
late King Hamlet to Claudius. Hamlet tells his mother, So excellent a king, that was to this

Hamlet uses Hecuba to exaggerate the difference between the queen in the play who is full of
grief and sorrow, and Queen Gertrude who has remarried quickly and shows little to no emotion
for the death of her first husband. Another example occurs during Hamlet s soliloquy when he
imagines his mother, Like Niobe, all tears (Ham. I. ii. 151). Hamlet not only wishes his mother
would mourn and take revenge, but he also implies responsibility for his father s death. In Greek
mythology, Niobe boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and
murdered her children. Painters and sculptures have portrayed Niobe as a crying woman because
of her guilt she felt knowing she caused her children to die. The fact that Hamlet uses these
comparisons suggests his mother is undoubtedly responsible for his father s death. Finish and relate
to thesis
Hamlet also compares himself to the demi god Hercules in Act 1 scene 2: My father s brother but
no more like my father/ Than I to Hercules (I, ii, 152 153). This mythological allusion is important
because Hamlet is comparing himself to Hercules who is known as a strong warrior and earned
a place on Mount Olympus with the gods. Hamlet is saying that his uncle is very much different
than his father, like Hamlet is very much different than Hercules. Hercules is seen as a superhero
of Greek mythology, which is a great difference of Hamlet because Hamlet is in no way seen as a
superhero or someone to look up to. Hamlet

Conservatism In Strictly Ballroom
A life lived in fear is a life half lived . Discuss how this notion is explored in Strictly Ballroom.
Establishing Baz Luhrmann s acclaimed Red Curtain trilogy, Strictly Ballroom explores the notion
that a life lived in fear is a life half lived, through his effective use of characterisation, setting,
symbolism and cinematography. The coming of age piece follows two ballroom dancers through
their battle against conventionality, during the height of the rigorous 1980 s Australian dance
culture. Furthermore, an emphasis on exaggeration is portrayed within the film to exemplify the
notion of regret, which directs viewers into an animated like perception of theatre, as urged by
Luhrmann.

The Effects of Television Violence on Children
According to the Article ?Violence on Television? published by the American Psychological
Association at the website http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/violence.html, ?violent programs on
television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs.? That
s the word from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed

findings, the American Psychological Association passed a resolution in February 1985 informing

The researchers noticed real differences between the kids who watched the violent shows and
those who watched nonviolent ones. According to Aletha Huston, Ph.D., ?children who watch
the violent shows, even just funny cartoons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates,
argue, disobey class rules, leave tasks unfinished, and were less willing to wait for things than
those who watched the nonviolent programs.? Findings from the laboratory are further
supported by field studies, which have shown the long range effects of televised violence.
Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the University of Illinois, found that children who
watched many hours of TV violence when they were in elementary school tended to also show a
?higher level of aggressive behavior? when they became teenagers. By observing these
youngsters until they were 30 years old, Dr. Eron found that the ones who ?had watched a lot of
TV when they were eight years old were more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts
as adults?.
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that
influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children s programming, just
limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably

How Mass Media Perpetuates Social Stratification and Reinforces Social Inequalities
Introduction The influence of mass media in our lives has grown exponentially in the last decade.
As mass media platforms have developed and expanded, human societies have gained
unprecedented access and updates to news occurring around the globe. We trust and rely on the
media as our source for current news, education, and entertainment. While there is a seemingly
infinite amount of content available, only a small fraction of that content appears in national media
reports. More often than not, we absorb this information without considering who is behind the
information or how that information may impact how we interact with one another. Prior to
writing this paper, I did not realize that over 90% of the media in the United States is owned by
six major corporations. These corporations have the power to shape our opinions and heavily

development but there is many other sectors too which are being benefitted. The return of the
expatriates to their home place is considered beneficial in many ways. They have sufficient
knowledge about the culture, traditions and other things of the place that is why they can do better
business than others. US data is much optimistic in this sense as 50% of the students came back to
their own country who goes abroad for the higher studies but in India or China it is only 20%. It is
the same condition with the Afghanistan, students who go to other countries for their studies do
not return to home country and in this way, the country s asset is going away from them. A bright
and studied man has much importance for its country especially when he knows some work to do
in the national interest. The graduated students can directly or indirectly contribute to the national
economy. They are the real asset of the country and they can change the future of the country
through their innovative ideas. In this way, the migrant diaspora helps the national economic

Producing a quality product, whether a tangible item or a service, is the goal of all organizations,
how this goal is achieved will be the challenge. Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in
America for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the

How TQM Applies to Loma Linda University Medical Center
I am a respiratory therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The hospital is
very proud of the respected reputation which has been earned by the high quality of care provided.
In one aspect, the quality management is similar to traditional management styles, with regards to
each employee is responsible for delivering high quality care. A deeper look will reveal a TQM
approach by the administrators and management at all levels.
The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to
achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide
safe, quality patient care. All healthcare institutions must meet these guidelines in order to have the
opportunity to provide care for patients. These guidelines extend from how oxygen tanks are stored
to how often employees receive in services, continuing educations, and tested for basic skills.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation In Newborns
Newborn Resuscitation Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a skill that almost anyone can

vital organs also stops. This can cause brain damage or death if not treated within minutes. CPR

based on an A B C sequence: airway, breathing, and circulation. Performing CPR on a newborn

History Of Hotel Lodging
Hotel and lodging sector is one of the oldest parts that make up the hospitality industry. The origins
of the industry can be traced to the earliest of times known to mankind. The history of hotels is
intimately connected to that of civilizations; facilities offering guests hospitality have been in
evidence since early biblical times (Levy Bonvin, 2003, para.1). While the most ancient hotels did
not have all the modern amenities that consumers have become accustomed to receiving when
frequenting the various hotelbrands and companies, the ancient hotels helped create the industry
that is still growing and evolving today.
At the start of the hotel industry, there was not of actual facilities that would resemble the hotels
that consumer is accustomed to seeing nowadays. Many of the accommodations offered to
travelers where bare bones, and the providers of the lodging were mostly concerned with
providing a safe place for the travelers to rest in between major outposts for a civilization that didn
t have the modern transportation methods. The modern ease of traveling was not afforded to the
customers of that time, which meant that the act of traveling from one city to another was very
hazardous. Travelling during that time was progressively more hazardous, which helped to spur the
gradual appearance of inns across much of Europe (Levy Bonvin, 2003, para.5). Thus, the start of
the industry revolved around offering a safe resting spot for the newfound travelers

How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how
one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown
and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of
faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does
nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence
in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the
duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had
been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work
that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the
pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of
the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future
claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably
been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is
classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back
to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Design Management Is Necessary For A Successful Project...
Critical appraisal
Design is the process whereby the attributes of a client are developed and documented so that they
can be procured. It is very important stage in the design procurement process and has a major
pressure on the outcome of the project. Lot of concentration is paid to overall project management,
as evidenced by techniques developed over the last 15 years. This critical view examines the
particular nature of design management process and the concrete issues that should to be considered
in order to establish the felicitous controls.
In recent years there has been an improved development for the need of design management in
construction. Effective design management is necessary for a successful project but the clear
picture of design management is not understood properly (S Austin, 2002). Design is a very key
aspect of construction and with the help of a good team; good sustainable projects can be
produced. The need for improvement of design in construction is very necessary. Delivering the
project on time, budget and providing a value to construction is needed (S Austin, 2002). However
the role of a design manager is poorly noted and does not have a robust path (Newton, n.d.).
Design management Dates back to early times where it was influenced with number of different
attributes like architecture, software development, engineering. During the 1960 design

Giving birth to a baby is the most amazing and miraculous experiences for a mother and her

from the moment a woman knows that she s pregnant to being in the delivering room is very
critical to both her and the new born baby. Prenatal care is extremely important and it can impact

thoroughly by describing the stories of two mothers who gave birth in different decades and see

Application Of Ecological System Theory
Ayaan Hirsi Ali was born in Mogadishu, Somalia where she spent her early childhood years living
with her mother, brother, sister, and grandmother. Her father at that time was in prison. Although
he does escape prison and ends up living in Ethiopia for a while before moving to Saudi Arabia.
When he moves to Saudi Arabia his family eventually moves there to join him.
Ayaan Hirsi Aliwas raised in a strict Muslim family. She has endured civil war, female mutilation,
brutal beatings, and a life of moving from one troubled country to another country that were both
unstable and ruled by dictators.

Protective factors. There aren t a lot of protective factors for Ayaan Hirsi Ali within her
microsystem. One protective factor that I found involved her sister. Ayaan s sister would try to
help her learn what was appropriate and what wasn t in their culture. By doing this her sister was
trying to help her stay out of trouble or in this case to keep the number of times she was beaten to a
minimum.
Later on in her life she went to Germany to visit relatives while waiting for her visa to go to
Canada. It is then that she decides to run away after remembering the story a friend told her
about how her and her husband traveled together and become refugees in Holland. So she gets a
train ticket to Amsterdam. She was aware of the risk that this could either be a start to a better life
or a miserable one if her application is denied.

The World Of Modern Architecture Essay
Z Marcel The TIME magazine in 1956 defined Breuer as one of those great designers and architects
that have moulded the 20th century . As a designer, with his tubular steel furniture, he has written
the history of design: his Wassily chair, in fact, has became an icon of modern living. As an
architect he has been one of the most innovative and interesting ones of his time, but, unfortunately,
this role has not been so often recognized in him by the historians.
M. Breuer belongs to a generation to which time and fame have not been so generous with. W.
Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, in fact, when Breuer was in his twenties, had
already began to give their contribute to the birth of a new era in architecture: the Modern
Movement. Only in the latest years the critics have started to give to his figure the role that truly
belongs to him: the role of one of the major protagonists of modern architecture.
M. Breuer was not only one of the most prolific architects of his time but also one of the most
innovative and interesting ones. He possessed an excellent sense related to proportions, forms and
materials. To be able to comprehend his art, we need to take time, to spend time in front of his
regular, sculptural forms. That s probably what truly and deeply attracts of Breuer s architecture: the
extra ordinary vigour.
M. Breuer art doesn t know frailty or weakness. It s exactly like its creator. It precisely shows the
temperament of his author: a strong.

What factors do you think affect this difference?
a.Washington Central knew they did not meet the award criteria with 2 instructors having no
masters degree and was hoping the low bid would compensate. Also engineers with bachelors
command less compensation that engineers with masters.
b.All their trainers were permanent employees working in DC and its possible that if they did not
get this contract they may become idle resources on the payroll.
3.The proposal of Washington Independents is $39,286 less than the Government estimate. What
factors do you think affect this difference?
The government may have estimated significant travel and lodging expenses for the instructors. But
the instructors at Washington Independents were all within 15 miles of each training location. This
significantly reduced travel expense e.g rental cars, airfares, and possibly eliminated additional
lodging expenses e.g hotels.
4. Los Angeles Quality has the highest proposed price. What factors do you think affect this
difference?
The 11 instructors that need to travel from LA to DC is a significant factor affecting the price.
The main price difference was the LA estimate to provide training at the Washington DC location.
Los Angeles proposed prices for all training locations were on target or very close within $2,000.00
of the government estimates; except for Washington, DC location where there was a

The Impact Of Negative Impact On Aboriginal And Torres...
Australia is one of the country that has grown to be the most diverse in the world. Many people
come from different country, different ethnic background and different beliefs/religions. We want
to enrich children s experiences of diversity. At the same time we want our children to also
experience, learn and explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander because they are the Australia
original inhabitants.
One of our local Aboriginal Communities is located at Inala, Queensland. The organisation that
managed the community is called Inala Elders A TSI Corporation. The Organisation (Our
Community, 2015) is aiming to help the older indigenous people in their home and community
with local state or federal governments. They provide services to keep the elderly living safely,
happily and comfortable at their own home. It is also a place where they can have social
gathering, a place to laugh, listen to one another and to learn. They also has been successfully

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Movement
October is a busy month. You have Oktoberfest, Halloween, Columbus Day, and my birthday. But
most importantly the whole month is national breast cancer awareness month. There are millions of
people across the nation getting involved in this social movement for various reasons. For my
friend, Kris, it is something a bit more personal. Breastcancerawareness movement is a tool and
outlet to inform and express their emotions. Breast canceris a malignant tumor that starts in the
cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade)
surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost
entirely in women, but men can get it, too. (Society, 2015) There is a... Show more content on

movement on his mom s birthday and also during the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

people. I asked him has anything come out of using social media to promote breast cancer
awareness, good or bad. He said he got a community of friends who share the same thoughts he

Analysis Of Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Women have never been considered equal to men. They have not been since the beginning and
although we say they are now, many would probably disagree. Charlotte BrontГ« was no exception
to this rule she knew that society expected women to fit into a specific category rather than be their
own individuals and she expressed her frustration towards this in Jane Eyre. Within this brief
passage, Charlotte BrontГ« elegantly employs symbolism, allusions, and diction in order to assert
Jane s determination to stay true to herself, despite the pressures exerted on her by society.
To be honest, the amount of symbolism within the passage is actually quite minor in
comparison to the rest of the novel, where it can be found in scores. However, the particular
symbol BrontГ« uses is a part of her rather prevalent symbolic pair of fire and ice. BrontГ« has
the tendency to link Jane to these two elements, subtly revealing the sharpness of the two
contrasting boxes the world demands Jane to fit herself in: religion and secularity. Society
views religious women as cold and devoted to labor, loving only towards God. On the other
hand, more secular women are viewed as wild and passionate, although they walk a thin line
between madness and sanity. To this end, examine the very example of the fire in Jane that the
passage provides: They have a worth so I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is
because I am insane quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating

Research Paper On The Masque Of The Black Death
The Masque of the Black Death
It s the mid 1300 s, daily life is going as usual, a plague is going around, people start to panic,
adults abandoning their children, some people are locking themselves indoors. A vile stench
goes into the air. Plague Doctors, with their creepy bird like masks and creepy blood covered
cloak, start walking into town. A sharp pain cuts through the townspeople s bodies as they start
feeling weaker and they see that their face is turning very red. Before anyone knows it a familiar
body is in the street unresponsive. Edgar Allan Poe took inspiration from the symptoms on people
from The Black Death and used it for The Masque of the Red Death , such as body color changing
after death, dying soon after anyone gets the plague, and more. Edgar Allan Poe took inspiration
from The Black Death when writing The Masque of the Red Death. ... Show more content on

On the chart that was filled out for the Black Death, it says that their body turns black after
death, and for The Masque of the Red Death it says, The scarlet stains upon the body and
especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and
from the sympathy of his fellow men. Poe took inspiration by using similar symptoms on the
bodies after they die from the black or red death. For example, in The Masque of the Red Death it
said their bodies change and in the black death their bodies change. Also, in both The Red Death
and The Black Plague they die soon after they contract the

Similarities Between Spiritual And Spiritual Fears
Before stepping into the similarities and differences among spiritual and physical fears, it is
important to understand the meaning/concept of these two ideas. With my understanding, spiritual
fears as said in the text, is that which is supernatural, far beyond the constraints of a human body,
either it is beyond ... or without the body (Lovecraft, 232). These are fears which are not tangible,
or that can be visibly seen, rather are uncertainties which the individuals body is attempting to cope
with against their internal problems. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what
the name states, these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of
ignorance, as often times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly
being able to understand and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible,
and commonly dreaded by a group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more
based on one on one (fearvs one person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and
differences between these two factors.
Differences:
To begin with, the first differenceI would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being
experienced by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being
those which are merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible. For
further clarification, there is merely one victim attempting to

Analysis Of Home Life In Colonial Days
The colonization in the new continent took place in the sixteenth century after many failed
attempts. It is thanks to the first European settlers that the United States of America was later
formed. As colonizers left their homelands and traveled across the Atlantic ocean in hopes of
finding fortune and a better life, they were faced with the opposite. Although after some time
they soon started considering the New World and the colonies formed as their new homes. In
spite of the first travellers to arrive being simply men, women started arriving slowly to the new
discovered land as Tobacco Wives. They were sent so the settlers could start families and
procreate. As time progressed more and more families of different social statues and religious
groups arrived to the unknown land. The history behind the colonization is very known although
many times the acute details of the home life are not spoken of. Thanks to the book Home Life in
Colonial Days written by Alice Morse Earle, one becomes aware of the settlers day to day life.
In the book, Alice Morse Earle writes about all characteristics in regards to the life of the colonist
in the new land. Every part of the life of colonists including the struggles they faced, type of
homes that were built, how they looked inside and the way individuals ate and served the food are
mentioned as well as the occupation each member of the household had and the popular fashion
attire at the time. In addition she too spoke of Sacred Sundays

  • 2. The Key Drivers Of Growth Behind Our Prison Population The primary purpose of prison is to protect the community and rehabilitate the offender (Smart Justice, 2015). Research has indicated that prison fails to do this and instead can increase the rate of reoffending (Smart Justice, 2015). Prison does not address the causes of the person s criminal offending. Imprisonment is designed to be a sentence of last resort, yet we are building more prisons at an ever increasing rate (Smart Justice, 2015). In Victoria, annually, the prisonsystem cost more than $1 billion (Glass, 2014). It cost more than $98, 000 to house a prisoner each year (SCRGSP, 2015). It is important to discuss the key drivers of growth behind our prison population. While the crime rate has not increased, our prison population has (Kilgore, 2015). Tougher on crime policies have been a contributing factor to the increase in the prison population (Department of Justice, 2011). Abolishment of alternative sentences, including intensive corrections orders (ICO), suspended sentences and home detention orders (HDO), have been a contributing factor to the increased prison population (Kilgore, 2016). Prior to the abolishment of suspended sentences from the period 2009 to 2012, the Victorian prison population increased by 11% (Glass, 2014). The following period 2012 2014, it increased to 25% (Glass, 2014).The parole reforms recommended by Ian Callinan have seen 95% of applications being denied (Glass, 2014). Reforms to the bail legislation have seen an increase of accused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/top 10 canadian heroes list includes pierre trudeau jack layton 1.2676398). Pierre Trudeau, born in Montreal in 1919, started out in politics as a layer in Quebecand as an activist in Quebec politics. In the 1960s Trudeau got involved in federal politics with the Liberal party. In 1968 he became the leader of the party and was elected as Prime Minister of Canada. Trudeau remained in office from 1968 1979 and again from 1980 1984 (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/pierre elliott trudeau/). Trudeau was strong willed, charismatic and had a... The Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism was released in 1967, giving recommendations to the federal government on steps to be taken for equality across ethnicities. The primary recommendation was for the implantation of a policy for official bilingualism, making both English and French of equal importance in Canada (Language rights and judicial wrongs: Official bilingualism jurisprudence in Canada s provincial courts. Pg 11). The report also recommended that bilingualism be increased in all of the provinces. Once Pierre Trudeau gained office one of his first things on his agenda was to bring in the Official Languages Act (OLA) in 1969, making both French and English equally recognized in Canada. Trudeau did not support the nationalists in Quebec with their goal of separatism and this was his way to make French Canadians feel they were of greater importance to the county (Language rights and judicial wrongs: Official bilingualism jurisprudence in Canada s provincial courts. Pg 12). Trudeau saw that this policy should strengthen national unity in Canada through various ways. It was thought that making the French speaking of equal importance as the English speaking in Canada it would reduce the rising pressure coming from Quebec to separate from Canada.. The bilingualism was also a hope that across Canada communications would become easier due to the knocking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of The Bombing Of Hiroshima I think that It was a good idea for the U.S to drop the bombs on Hiroshima. One reason why I think it was a good idea is because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and expected us to not hit back. Secondly, if we did not bomb them there would have been millions of lives lost instead of just thousands. Third, the U.S needed a way to end the war quickly so the Soviet Union did not march into Japan. Lastly, the Japanese would not surrender so they had to get them to surrender. The Japanese provoked the U.S to drop the atomic bomb on them by bombing pearl harbor and killing people and sinking ships. If the U.S did not drop the bomb and did a land evasion millions of American lives would have been lost but if they dropped the two bombs only thousands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Strongest Process Piece The Express and Reflect essay is my strongest process piece. This essay was about me coming out and how it affected me. The first draft was terrible, but after I revised my paper I improved a lot and learned from my mistakes. My introduction is amazing and really catches the reader s attention. For example, The night I met her I knew she was special. I instantly fell in love with her. She had long, wavy, brown hair that made her skin glow. My eyes met her bright, shiny, emerald green eyes, which left me speechless. The beginning of that paragraph describes the person perfectly. The reader has an idea of what the essayis going to be about just from reading the first couple of sentences. This is my strongest piece because I expressed myself in the essay. The reader got to learn information about me that many people don t know. I also reflected how coming out affected my life and relationship with loved ones.... For instance, The man lost all control of the car, it was in the right lane and it shot all the way across to the left lane. I am missing a comma after lane and before and. I did inform the reader about what I had witnessed and explained the accident to the reader clearly. However, I could do more showing than telling. I could of added imagery in my essay. Also, in the essay I did not clarify who the lady in the convertible was yelling at. I said, She looked very angry and was yelling at him, pushing him, and slapping him. The reader could be confused because they don t know who this man is. The woman was yelling and hitting the man driving. It s not my weakest piece, but I could improve this essay so it could be ... Management Roles Paper Management Roles paper Jason Fair University of Phoenix CMGT/530 Kim Hinton December 17th, 2011 Management roles are different in each organization depending on the size of the organization. The following paper will discuss the management roles in a business with less than 50 employees and a business with more than 500 employees. A brief overview of each organization will be given along with a description of the hierarchical organization of each. Why or why not the hierarchical organization of each business works or not will also be discussed and the IT function of each business. The employee turnover ratio is less and overall work is at a more manageable level. The IT function of a 7 eleven store would consist of connection of hardware and software, networking, and maintenance. A business with more than 500 employees poses more of a challenge to be successful and profitable. The business I chose with more than 500 employees is Wal Mart. Wal Mart stores are located all over the United States and is a retail store that specializes in everything from groceries to new car tires. The hierarchical organization of Wal Mart stores from top down on a store level would be: Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Department Managers, Team Leader, and Store associate. (Walmart Corporate, 2011). The hierarchical organization for Wal Mart does not work in my opinion, because of the high turnover rate of employees working for this organization. I previously was employed by Wal Mart and lasted three years. In those three years it was almost like a revolving door of employees getting hired and fired by the company, management included. Although Wal Mart is one of the most successful retail store chains in the world, in order to climb the corporate ladder and maintain is a very hard job to do. The IT function for Wal Mart is a very tedious one including networking, technical support, installation of hardware and software, training, and maintenance of web sites. With stores all over the ... • 8. Romanticism And Romanticism In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. Just a few short words that have great train wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of love frantically, can claw up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the feeling like me, the Romantic era got me in. • 9. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen As a reader in the 1990 s it s tempting to see Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Cupid in the Kitchen as revolutionary and ahead of its time. She proposes the complete professionalization of the nutritive and execretive functions of society, a radical, if not revolutionary notion. However, in the light of the fin de siecle birth of the modern feminist movement, Gilman is but one voice in many crying for economic and social justice for women. In effect, the rhetorical situation of 1898 demanded and created this discourse as it does all discourse (Bitzer 5). Gilman s Cupid is a natural and elegant response to the conditions which created it: the continuing surplus of unmarried ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This event also inspired Gilman s work. In this respect, Gilman s Cupid is neither revolutionary nor ahead of its time. That it bemoans the status of women in society and demands new opportunities for employment makes this piece more typical than remarkable. That is not to say that it is trivial. Gilman s book was both topical and significant in 1898. But what s most interesting in the 1990 s is how her work differs from that of her contemporaries. What makes it stand out? How is it revolutionary, and why has it been anthologized? To answer these questions, the reader must follow the work to where the energy in the prose leads. This calls for a close examination of the most striking feature of her work, the proposal itself. Gilman s vision is revolutionary, and in some respects, prophetic. She proposes that the domestic chores of cleaning and nutrition be professionalized. Because they are so important, she argues, these tasks should be performed by well educated and trained professionals. She suggests that urban families living in flats and apartments could eat at a central, professionally staffed kitchen. In the suburbs, several houses could be linked by a kitchen in a similar way (Gilman 217 19). Her system offers several advantages. Obviously, people s nutritional requirements could be better met by a centralized, professionally staffed kitchen. In all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Templars And Alchemical Philosopher s Stone Pike is claiming that the symbolism associated with the Templars and Freemasonry is veiled and misunderstood by the masses also reflects the idea that the alchemical Philosopher s Stone was simply a rouse created by alchemists to confuse the masses and mask their true and secret methods and sciences. However, this doesn t answer the Chinon manuscript s claim that a certain Templar possessed a severed idol head. Is this the secret treasure that the Templars are said to have found? We can gain more clarity on this subject from Sean Martin in The Knights Templar (p. 139): Misunderstanding is almost certainly at the root of the allegation that the Templars worshipped an idol called Baphomet. • 13. Propaganda Techniques Today s Advertising By Anne Mcclintock In the essay, Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Anne McClintock, McClintock shows seven different ways that propaganda is used. One mostly used by advertisement today would be Glittering Generalities, using positive words to bring attraction to their product while concealing the actual meanings. They will use inspiring words that are very vague that the consumer would not really understand what the product would really do to benefit them but would be inspired to buy it anyways. Another technique mostly used would be Testimonial, were producers would pay celebrities to advertise their product for them since they have more fame than normal actors. Advertisement used today is targeted to make the consumer believe that what they are paying for is the real deal when it is only beneficial for the producers. Advertisements are used to promote a product by the positive effects enthusiastically but when describing the side effects they are done fast and in small letters. When one watches a commercial in the television, or hears it on the radio, one mostly hears the what the producers wants them to hear. They will explain their product, giving the pros of what it was made to do and how its a better option than other products in the market. When they are done with their sale at the very end most of commercials give you in small font the rest of the financial information, additional fees, or even side effects with a very fast voice most of the time reading it to you. ... These books were published in 1554 in Rome while he was visiting Daniele Barbaro. Essentially the purpose of the books was to serve as guidebooks for historical monuments within Rome. The first book he had written contained short descriptions for travelers that discussed the appearance and history of classical ruins. His guidebook was actually a replacement for an older medieval guidebook, which focused more on the mythical side of Rome. This buildings portico is almost identical to Palladio s Villa Emo s. There are many other buildings in America that have integrated this feature into their designs following Palladio s principles. Nevertheless there are other modern day architects who did not follow his principles and the porticos are unsymmetrical. Although some have failed to follow his principles there are some buildings that portray his designs well. An example of an American building with a portico is Whitehall. Strategic Problem and Issues: In the performance apparel market the top three competitors consist of Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, with Nike leading the industry and Under Armour coming in last. The Challenge for Under Armor will be can they stand the pressure from their competitors as they expand into a bigger market. They must be able to provide their customers with either cheaper or better products, the companies marginal cost should be better than that of their competitors, and Under Armour must prove to their customers that their products are different and overall better than their competitors (Terfis Team, 2014). If they re able to succeed through these risk, then Under Armour will have a fighting chance of competing with those larger companies. Situation Analysis and Evaluation: Under Armour s goals is to make athletes better through Passion, Design and the Relentless Pursuit of innovation (UnderArmour, 2016). Eminent Domain Essay Student name Institution name Date Introduction Question: Is the policy of eminent domain providing for the public welfare, through the taking of privately owned property, using a rightful procedure involving due process and just compensation as it was intended to do when the policy was founded? Eminent domain is the inherent power of the government to take over a citizen s property for public use without the owner s consent. Initially, this public policy originated in the Middle Ages throughout the world. It became part of the British common law before reaching the United States where it was then illustrated in the US Constitution in 1791 (Britannica: eminent domain). The constitution puts it out clear that the person whose private property has been seized for public use is entitled to just compensation, which is a fair current cash market value of the property in question. This is quoted to be the price that a willing buyer would give and a willing seller would accept for the property. This is why it is referred to as the fair price because it was where the buyer and seller would reach at a consensus. Eminent Domain has affected very many people across all the counties in the United States of America each and every year. One such instance is that which occurred in 2002 in Long Beach, NJ. At this time, the government promised a number of redevelopment projects in efforts to try and improve the lakeside community. Uncountable number of locals, even the lifelong residents who knew long beach as their home fell victims of eviction. This was done with false promises from the government that there was an oncoming improvement in the financial environment and the improvement of the general aesthetic value of the town. Separation of Powers in the Commowealth This doctrine was formulated by French philosopher Montesquieu who theorized that abuse of powers by the three branches would be checked through separating the branches functionally and physically. This means no branch should perform function of the other and no person can hold office simultaneously in the branches. However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996 189 CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme courts rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013). In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial power and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court exercises non judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have explicit separation of powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial federal powers with non judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. Exodus 36:1 says, use your skills to honor God . Despite what the bible seems to be saying, women do not have the same opportunities as men in Christian religious settings. Imagine a woman in the Christian faith who has the qualifications to preach the word of God and the eagerness to serve the Lord. Logically, she should be awarded the job position. However, she is not even considered for that opportunity. In multiple recurring instances, the church congregation has discriminated against women, not allowing them to have the same opportunities as the men in the community. These women are not only discriminated against, but are scoffed at, even penalized for wanting these positions. Women should not be penalized for having faith in the Lord and wanting to share it with others. The bible states how both women and men are equal and are to use the skills they have to honor God. The congregation should not limit these human resources to only men, when highly qualified and respected women are willing and able to serve. Gender discrimination is a problem in Christian Churches because women who are qualified are unable to access jobs, are experiencing emotional stress, and are being penalized for wanting changes within the church. Another example occurs during Hamlet s soliloquy when he imagines his mother, Like Niobe, all tears (Ham. I. ii. 151). Hamlet not only wishes his mother would mourn and take revenge, but he also implies responsibility for his father s death. In Greek mythology, Niobe boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and murdered her children. Painters and sculptures have portrayed Niobe as a crying woman because of her guilt she felt knowing she caused her children to die. People from India writing for a nickel a page. That s who hurts me. Professional copywriters charging a professional rate? They don t hurt me at all they help me, because the more professional copywriters that are out there, the more legitimate the copywriting business is. Enough preliminary stuff I go ahead and get access to the course: The AWAI Accelerated Program for Six Figure Copywriting essentially consists of an online program (it s printable too) of more than 700 pages of material, member forums, support, videos, job postings, etc. (note when I first reviewed the course, it was printed. But wow, this new online version is sweet.) Full disclosure I then cheated and went right to the job board. And truthfully, I was a little underwhelmed. There really aren t that many jobs posted there (like 5 10 a month.) However, as I ll explain in a minute, you really shouldn t be relying on AWAI to find you work anyway. But The Bottom Line is This: This is a pretty good copywriting course. There s no two ways around it I m a professional copywriter, and AWAI s course is a solid introduction to the art of direct response copywriting. Now, let me be crystal clear it is NOT going to turn you into me overnight. I ve been doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Latent Defect Essay Mike Christensen December 10, 2009 CM 385: Section 1 Final Paper How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work? Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractorwho is bound to the owner must understand the risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Design Management Is Necessary For A Successful Project... Critical appraisal Design is the process whereby the attributes of a client are developed and documented so that they can be procured. It is very important stage in the design procurement process and has a major pressure on the outcome of the project. Lot of concentration is paid to overall project management, as evidenced by techniques developed over the last 15 years. This critical view examines the particular nature of design management process and the concrete issues that should to be considered in order to establish the felicitous controls. In recent years there has been an improved development for the need of design management in construction. Effective design management is necessary for a successful project but the clear picture of design management is not understood properly (S Austin, 2002). Design is a very key aspect of construction and with the help of a good team; good sustainable projects can be produced. The need for improvement of design in construction is very necessary. Delivering the project on time, budget and providing a value to construction is needed (S Austin, 2002). However the role of a design manager is poorly noted and does not have a robust path (Newton, n.d.). In this paper, the topic of giving birth will be discussed thoroughly by describing the stories of two mothers who gave birth in different decades and see how their prenatal cares are different from each other with correlation with the advancement of modern medicine. One protective factor that I found involved her sister. Ayaan s sister would try to help her learn what was appropriate and what wasn t in their culture. By doing this her sister was trying to help her stay out of trouble or in this case to keep the number of times she was beaten to a minimum. • 43. The World Of Modern Architecture Essay Z Marcel The TIME magazine in 1956 defined Breuer as one of those great designers and architects that have moulded the 20th century . As a designer, with his tubular steel furniture, he has written the history of design: his Wassily chair, in fact, has became an icon of modern living. As an architect he has been one of the most innovative and interesting ones of his time, but, unfortunately, this role has not been so often recognized in him by the historians. M. Breuer belongs to a generation to which time and fame have not been so generous with. W. Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, in fact, when Breuer was in his twenties, had already began to give their contribute to the birth of a new era in architecture: the Modern Movement. Only in the latest years the critics have started to give to his figure the role that truly belongs to him: the role of one of the major protagonists of modern architecture. M. Breuer was not only one of the most prolific architects of his time but also one of the most innovative and interesting ones. He possessed an excellent sense related to proportions, forms and materials. To be able to comprehend his art, we need to take time, to spend time in front of his regular, sculptural forms. That s probably what truly and deeply attracts of Breuer s architecture: the extra ordinary vigour. M. Breuer art doesn t know frailty or weakness. It s exactly like its creator. It precisely shows the temperament of his author: a strong. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Analysis Of Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Women have never been considered equal to men. They have not been since the beginning and although we say they are now, many would probably disagree. Charlotte BrontГ« was no exception to this rule she knew that society expected women to fit into a specific category rather than be their own individuals and she expressed her frustration towards this in Jane Eyre. Within this brief passage, Charlotte BrontГ« elegantly employs symbolism, allusions, and diction in order to assert Jane s determination to stay true to herself, despite the pressures exerted on her by society. To be honest, the amount of symbolism within the passage is actually quite minor in comparison to the rest of the novel, where it can be found in scores. However, the particular symbol BrontГ« uses is a part of her rather prevalent symbolic pair of fire and ice. BrontГ« has the tendency to link Jane to these two elements, subtly revealing the sharpness of the two contrasting boxes the world demands Jane to fit herself in: religion and secularity. Society views religious women as cold and devoted to labor, loving only towards God. On the other hand, more secular women are viewed as wild and passionate, although they walk a thin line between madness and sanity. To this end, examine the very example of the fire in Jane that the passage provides: They have a worth so I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is because I am insane quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating ... Research Paper On The Masque Of The Black Death The Masque of the Black Death It s the mid 1300 s, daily life is going as usual, a plague is going around, people start to panic, adults abandoning their children, some people are locking themselves indoors. A vile stench goes into the air. Plague Doctors, with their creepy bird like masks and creepy blood covered cloak, start walking into town. A sharp pain cuts through the townspeople s bodies as they start feeling weaker and they see that their face is turning very red. Before anyone knows it a familiar body is in the street unresponsive. Edgar Allan Poe took inspiration from the symptoms on people from The Black Death and used it for The Masque of the Red Death , such as body color changing after death, dying soon after anyone gets the plague, and more. • 52. Similarities Between Spiritual And Spiritual Fears Before stepping into the similarities and differences among spiritual and physical fears, it is important to understand the meaning/concept of these two ideas. With my understanding, spiritual fears as said in the text, is that which is supernatural, far beyond the constraints of a human body, either it is beyond ... or without the body (Lovecraft, 232). These are fears which are not tangible, or that can be visibly seen, rather are uncertainties which the individuals body is attempting to cope with against their internal problems. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what the name states, these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of ignorance, as often times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly being able to understand and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible, and commonly dreaded by a group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more based on one on one (fearvs one person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and differences between these two factors. Differences: To begin with, the first differenceI would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being experienced by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being those which are merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible.
