Leonardo Da Vinci s The Last Supper And Mona Lisa
According to biography.com, the article about the writer, mathematician, inventor, and artist Leonardo
da Vinci states that, Leonardo da Vinci was a leading artist ad intellectual of the Italian Renaissance
who s known for his enduring works The Last Supper and Mona Lisa . Leonardo da Vinci was born in
Vinci, Italy on April 15, 1452. He was born out of wedlock being raised by his father Ser Piero along
with his stepmothers. Leonardo da Vinci was into the laws of science and nature, which played a
major role with him becoming a painter, sculptor, inventor, and draftsman. He influenced various
artists which made him the Leading Light of the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci s style was
more of a right to left Italian style , according to legacy.mos.org. He wrote short handedly using a
technique in which he invented himself. He usually used mirror writing , starting from the right side of
the page and moving to the left . There are multiple assumptions that people have come across into
why Leonardo da Vinci used the left to right mirroring writing technique. Some say that, one reason
that he attempted to make it harder for people to read his notes was so that individuals could not steal
his ideas. Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452 May 2, 1519) was different from most painters but
according to legacy.mos.org, he was influenced by the writings of the ancient Greeks and Romans . At
the age of 14, he was being taught and trained by Verrocchio, biography.com

Improving Medication Communication And Medication
Improving Medication Communication People become ill every day and need medications to help
them fight whatever disease or infection they may be suffering from. Medications play such a vital
part in human lives today. Physicians are always coming up with new medications that they would like
to try for a certain illness. As patients get prescribed new medications they need to be taught the
purpose and the side effect of the drug. Communicating the purpose and side effects of drugs are vital
components for patient safety and also compliance. The need to educate patients about the
medications they are receiving is becoming more and more important. Patients may have no idea why
they are taking the medication that they are prescribed. When patients know why they are taking a
medication and what some of the side effects are to that medication they are able to keep themselves
safe. Patient safety related to medication communication is something that may be overlooked in
settings that prescribe medications. The more knowledgeable the patient is about the medications they
are taking the better they are to understand their specific disease process and improve their own safety.
A patient s understanding of his or her medications is vital to a satisfactory patient experience and it
also drives safety and quality (Improving Medication Communication with Ask 3/Teach 3, 2013).

Lord of the Flies Literary Analysis Essay
Greed for Power In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of English boys in their
adolescence are stranded on an island. They crash land while being evacuated because of an atomic
war, so the boys must learn to cooperate with each other in order to survive. The boys are civil at first,
but the bonds of civilization unfold as the rapacity for power and immediate desires become more
important than civility and rescue. The conflict between Ralph, the protagonist, and Jack, the
antagonist, represents the conflict between the impulse to civilization and the impulse to savagery,
respectively. In Lord of the Flies, Golding uses Ralph and Jack s struggle for power to show that greed
and lust for power can corrupt the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conch was used to call meetings and whosoever held it, had the power to speak. Jack starts to
disobey the conch because he is turning more and more savage like. [T]hey closed in on the struggling
pig, knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life
like a long satisfying drink, thought Jack. As the story progresses, Jack realizes he wants to kill pigs,
not keep fires going for rescue. Jack shouted, We don t need the conch anymore. At this point in the
novel, Golding is showing the reader that because Jack is lusting for power, he is turning into a
ferocious monster. By turning into a savage, he has lost all sense of civilization and democracy. By the
end of the novel, Jack has become a full blown barbarian. He is so caught up in killing pigs that he no
longer listens to Ralph. He tries to become chief again and fails. Because of that, he starts his own
tribe on the other side of the island where all they do is hunt pigs. The boys that follow him are
transformed into the savage that he is. Here, struck down by the heat, the sow fell and the hunters
hurled themselves at her...Jack was on top of the sow, stabbing downward with his knife. Roger found

I felt like I could do anything. The moment was extremely surreal. I hadn t accomplished anything so

Congratulations! I m so proud of you. You were amazing out there! I love you so much, said my

I squeezed my mother with all of my strength. I was so glad that she was there to watch me.

Dbq New Imperialism Essay
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the new imperialism in europe increased. The new
imperialism characterizes a period of colonial expansion by european powers, the united states and
japan. Europeans began colonizing africa and asia and used military force to take over local
governments which led to the new imperialism. The new imperialism was led by many reasons such
as economics, politics, and social forces. Economics had a important role to the new imperialism.
There were many economic factors that affected this period. An economic factor was having colonies
which made it easier for countries to protect their merchant marine and their world trade. As american
senator A.J beveridge (document 2) stated the trading of the world must and shall be ours... we will
establish trading posts throughout the world as disturbing points for american products. We will cover
the ocean with our merchant marines. We will build a navy to the measure of our greatness... .
America was creating colonies and was becoming imperialistic. Also introducing ruthlessness in the
diplomacy of imperialism, william l. Langer (document 5) which states but the economic side..

Essay Stan Kenton
Stan Kenton: Progressive Concepts in Jazz
Stanley Newcomb Kenton is one of the most influential figures to be found in all of jazz history, even
being called the most significant figure of the Modern Jazz age by Frank Sinatra (Agostinelli, 6).
Kenton s progressive concepts of how music is written and performed greatly affected the genre of
jazz, and created something new and unique. Always under controversy, Kenton and his band always
strove to do something different, never settling into a niche for long periods of time. Even today, when
hearing modern jazz performers (particularly big bands) one can often hear the influence from Kenton
s music.
Kenton was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 11, 1911, although he spent most of his ... Show

The standard big band sound of the late 1940s and 1950s was very laid back. Rhythmically, it was
normal to play just behind the beat to create this relaxed feel, with a definite emphasis on the swing
style. Swing music was usually composed of one melody played by one section of the band, and other
sections, if playing at all, would play chord hits in different places. The function of the rhythm section
is mostly to comp and stay out of the way. These bands usually stayed within either 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, or
2/4 time signatures. Kenton altered this system in many ways to create something fresh and
progressive.
Kenton s sound was more aggressive and even occasionally more abrasive than of other bands. The
saxophones played strongly, with screaming trumpets, and a lush, rich trombone sound. One aspect
that made the Kenton charts different from others was the layering techniques used within the band.
This would involve one section of the band playing a melody. Then another section would play a
different melody over top of the first one. Both would compliment each other rhythmically and
harmonically. This process could then continue, adding more lines. When extracted, each line is still
interesting by itself. The best example of layering in the Kenton library is Artistry in Rhythm. This
tune begins with the rhythm section playing a riff over which the sax section plays the main melody

The Trial And The Metamorphosis

Senior Project Essay
The Trial and The Metamorphosis are the two foremost works Franz Kafka has ever written. By doing
this, Franz makes the similarities and differences very obvious, yet each text is complex in their own
way. In The Trial and The Metamorphosis, Kafka uses unique aspects to compare the characters in
each novel. Each character is being forced by anonymous forces. They both go through loneliness to
find the meaning behind their suffering. Each similarity and difference in The Trial and The
Metamorphosis, come along with complexity that gives readers a deeper psychological view. In
having these similarities and differences, it can be arguable that the characters had inevitable deaths.
At the end, their death may or may not have been preventable which shows their struggle in each
story.
In both, The Trial and The Metamorphosis, the characters never find out who the anonymous forces
are. This is one of the dominant issues of both stories which concludes to be one of the similarities.
One of the examples would be from The Trial, in this scene of The Trial, Joseph K is leaving the bank
and as he is passing by a lumber room, he realizes that some of the warders are getting beaten. He
asked for the man beating them to stop but the man did not listen and continued to beat them. The
difference between these stories is that they handle their situation in a very different ways. In The
Metamorphosis,

There were times when Worldcom HAD excess accruals and chose not to release them. This was to
sustain the financial Line E/R ratio. This is definitely not an appropriate practice because expenses
need to be recognized in accordance with the matching principle. It is not acceptable to hold expenses
for a later date when you have excess revenue and can afford to recognize held back expenses. 3. On
the topic of capitalizing line costs, critique the rationale included in CEO Scott Sullivan s White
Paper. Based on your own analysis of GAAP, explain the propriety or impropriety of capitalizing line
costs in the telecom industry. Sullivan explained his rationale in a report to the Board of Directors
referred as the white papers. In order to meet the customer demand for Internet and data expected to
increase at the 8 times annual growth factor, Worldcom had to significantly increase its capital
investments. Lease commitments were established to expedite the customer provisioning and revenue
stream in accordance with SAB 101, and supplemented by FASB 91, direct and indirect costs
associated with obtaining a customer may be deferred and amortized over the revenue stream
associated with that contract. So instead of recognizing these expenses immediately, the portion of the
unused capacity was able to be expensed later when the revenue was realized. This might have been
an O.K. practice in accordance of GAAP if the capitalization of these line costs

Flashbulb Memory
Jim had a memory from his childhood that he was able to recall, but everything he remembers about
that memory was inaccurate. False memory is known as Flashbulb memory. In the sensory memory
part of your brain is where unattended memory is lost. Short term memory is where unrehearsed
information is lost and long term memory information can be lost over time. A huge variety of factors
may influence how well you remember certain events. These are called memory biases. Memory
biases can also affect how fast you re able to recall something. Certain types of biases may actually
change some of your memories. The following are a few common biases:

There are three systems of memory. The first system of memory, our brains retain each frame in our

system which is short term memory. Sensory memory applies to hearing too. One information makes
it past our sensory buffers, it moves into our short term memory, a second system for retaining

Comparison Of Monster In Frankenstein
In the Novel Frankenstein by Mary shelly, the novel jumps between the two narrative perspectives of
monster and creator. By jumping from two different perspectives throughout the novel we are able to
understand the thoughts and feelings of each character in a new way. Reading through different
perspectives, allows the story to have greater depth and meaning. Each perspective brings a new
dimension to the novel that makes for a more complex story. Furthermore, the perspectives allow for
the two characters to be compared and contrasted throughout the entirety of the novel. When reading
from Victor s point of view, we can see how he feels about the monster. How can I describe my
emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had
endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful.
Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his
hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only
formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun
white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. (Chapter 5)

something great for mankind. While reading through the monster s point of view we can understand a

In Dennis Covington’S Book Salvation On Sand Mountain And
In Dennis Covington s book Salvation on Sand Mountain and David Haberman s Journey Through the
Twelve Forests: An Encounter with Krishna, we get two very different experiences of researches
stepping into a world of different religion and perspectives than their own. While both Haberman and
Covington focus on a certain religion and the traditions of its followers, Haberman does a better job
with presenting an accurate representation of Hinduism and the Braj pilgrimage. This is because
Covington s book delves too deeply into his personal journey and opinion without explaining any
details or history of Christianity and the snake handling, while Haberman gives the reader history of
Hinduism and the significance of the Braj pilgrimage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both attempt to take an ethnographic approach, Covington s writing truly does show the
journalistic background he came from, since it came off as almost more story telling than an actual
research piece. Haberman, on the other hand, provided the reader with a large amount of background
and history on Hinduism, essentially assuming the reader didn t know anything about Hinduism going
into the book. This made it so that while the reader was going on the journey of the pilgrimage with
Haberman, they were also getting the informational and historical background of Hinduism and why
the pilgrimage was performed, something that Covington cannot grasp so well. This could partly be
because Covington assumes his audience is coming from a Christian and Western perspective,
meaning a background and history of Christianity isn t necessary. While Haberman, on the other hand,
makes the same assumption, so a history and background of Hinduism would be necessary to
accurately tell and portray the whole story. It is more appropriate for researchers to assume that their
audience lacks the background knowledge than that they have it, because there could be missed
information or unclear points made by the researchers otherwise. When explaining the traditions and
beliefs of those in the snake handling church, Covington presents in the information within the
framework of his life and his experiences,

School Cafeteria Food Essay
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don t think you would want to. In school story books, do
you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria
food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and
opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better,
advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated to eat unhealthy,
not tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don t often see them buying
these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), burgers
(meat slapped on two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A simple salad bar and healthier, tastier foods (such as soup, sandwiches, pasta, etc.) would be the key
to flourishing and happy or happier students. On the other hand, you may be thinking, $3.75 $4.75 is
cheap for a school lunch , Who would pay for it? , or If it s good enough for school standards, then it
MUST be healthy . $3.75 $4.75 is not cheap with the economy failing and families having to stretch
their dollars. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a
month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710
a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive.
Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a
huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for
billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars
could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school
standards, but it may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day,
depending on their needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between
two slices of bread, be? Not to mention the amounts of saturated fat, trans fat, and salt! If you checked

The Importance Of Reward Enhances Motivation And Motivation
DISCUSSION
The aim of this experiment was to test whether or not reward enhances motivation, therefore
enhancing results of performance.
My hypothesis stated that results would be inconclusive due to subjects being self motivated and
happy to do their best. I thought that this no effect on their performances. I took consideration into
realising that subjects may not be self motivated and needed a reward to spur them on to performing at
their best. I could not underestimate the chance of choking under pressure and this could lead to
inconclusive differing results. The test result showed no real change in stats, due to lack of subject
numbers, it was difficult to determine whether or not motivation and performance was enhanced
through reward. However Figure 2 above did indicate a change in performance leaning towards more
success when reward was a part of the experiment at an average of hitting two free throws out of ten,
compared to motivation averages of two point seven out of ten. Table 1 shows a mixed bag of results
in terms of performance, many subjects produced better performances with the reward at stake,
compared to those who had no real change to their performance outcome. A few subjects were in the
early cognitive stage of learning when it came to performing the skill to a level where they hit zero
shots from the free throw line. This weighed done the motivation score averages quite heavily and it
appears that motivation was much the same as the non motivational

The On The Peoples Republic Of China s Economy
The Peoples Republic of China s economy is now the second largest in the world with an estimated
gross domestic product of $9.24 trillion USD (China, 2014). This is the result of a strict economic
reform policy put into place in 1978, which removed emphasis on the agricultural sector and moved to
the energy intensive sector of manufacturing. The growing demand for energy often came in the form
of highly polluting coal fired power plants, but in 1992 the Three Gorges Dam was approved with
construction beginning in 1994. The world s largest dam was intended to produce power

Three Gorges Dam is often seen as highly controversial due to foreseen and unforeseen problems that
have arisen following its completion in 2012 (Jackson and Sleigh, 2000). The dam may be one of
China s largest environmental oversights and social failure in recent years.
For more than 300 years the Ming Dynasty ruled China overseeing great growth and prosperity, the
standards of living in China during the 16th century were unparalleled even by the West (Zhu, 2012).
During their reign the Great Wall of China was built as well as the Forbidden City in Beijing. In 1644
however, the Manchus overthrew the Central Plain of China resulting in the end of the Ming Dynasty
and the creation of the Qing Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty was initially prosperous for the Chinese

Essay about P G Case Study
In this case of Procter and Gamble (P amp;G) and Wal Mart s partnership, the main issue seemed to be
caused by a third part company s collaboration with Wal Mart which interfered the healthy partnership
between P amp;G and Wal Mart, also threatened P amp;G s leading position in the diaper market. P
amp;G s diaper brand Pampers has been the industrial leader in the relevant segment for years. P
amp;G has been developing a long established partnership with Wal Mart based on a just in time
ordering and delivery system for disposable diapers featured with the electronic data interchange
system linking Wal Mart vendors with P amp;G factories. The result of this collaboration created a
win win situation which let Wal Mart reduced both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was clearly stated in the case that the products from those private label brands can be 20 percent, or
in some cases even 30 to 40 percent less than first tier national brands. No matter what strategies P
amp;G would use, it has to be related to a series of price adjustments to absorb the impact of the
entering of low priced private label product in this case, Wal Mart s private label diapers supplied by
Kimberly Clark. Although the case didn t provide any alternative solutions to the situation, in my
opinion there were two main options to resolve the problem. The first option is to lower the price of P
amp;G s diaper product to better compete with Wal Mart s private label. The second option is to
mainly maintain or slightly raise the price to establish P amp;G s diaper brand Pampers as a premium
brand in the segment.
As I mentioned before, when the concern came down to the price, it seems that it s inevitable for P
amp;G to reduce the price of their diapers in order to stay in the leading position of the segment.
Although P amp;G has all the rights and reasons to market Pampers as a premium brand with the high
quality diapers and the intimate community service and relationships they ve developed over years by
marketing campaigns. However the research data from Huggies Every Little Bottom Study Diaper

provide diapers for their babies. It is obvious that affordability

What Is The Loss Of Identity In King Lear
Certainly, King Lear is one of William Shakespeare s most tragic plays in which the complexity of the
plot can be very intriguing. One major aspect of this play is about identity and how these identities can
determine your path in life. Identity can either do people good or have a negative impact on someone s
life. There are two types of identity that this play focuses on: identity lost and identity abandoned. In
the case of this play, King Lear and Edgar are two of the major characters that play a major part with
identity and how it affects both their lives in different ways. In King Lear, the lost of one s identity can
have a negative effect in the end when their identity is discovered too late; the abandonment of an
identity can lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With King Lear having lost his identity, he cannot seem to find out who he really is and therefore,
goes through a phase of madness by having a confrontation with nature and challenging the elements.
He cries out things like Blow, winds, crack your cheeks and, Rumble thy bellyful, Spite, fire! Spout
rain, (3.2.1,14) to express his anger towards his daughters and how they have deceitfully stripped him
of his identity. However, his absurdity also reveals how his identity is currently vacant and how he
uses all this negative emotion and madness to fill in that identity. Moreover, he goes to the point where
he even pretends to be a judge whom Goneril and Regan are being put to trial: I ll see their trial first.
Bring in the evidence (3.6.35). As he plays the part of the judge, he asserts how Goneril kicked the
poor king her father and Regan s looks proclaim/ What store her heart is made on (3.6.47 48, 52 53). It
is seen how Lears daughters have driven him insane to the point where he hallucinates about it and
through his act of a judge, he essentially explains how his identity became loss. Overall, it is evident
that his unstable being and loss of sanity is a result from his loss of identity which is contradictory to

The Old English Proverb, Aesop For Children
Catalyzing Innovation The old English proverb, Aesop for Children, tells the story of a father who
charges his sons to break a bundle of sticks one by one. They easily do so. Then he charges them to
break the united bundle of sticks. None come close. This is a proverb demonstrating the strength in
unity and coordination. This is a proverb an American engineer and inventor largely upheld
throughout the course of his life s accomplishments. Douglas Engelbart, largely known as the inventor
of the mouse, affected the history of computing technology in a much deeper manner. Rather a
chronological account of Engelbart s entire life, this research paper analyzes his greatest
accomplishments in a chronological order that directly supported the increased coordination of user s
efforts. Douglas Engelbart transcended the limits of computing technology by aligning human minds
with computing systems through his collaborative user interface scheme. In order to properly highlight
Engelbart s accomplishments, some context is needed in which he developed his collaborative user
interface scheme. In the late 1950s Engelbart joined Stanford Research Institute and there he proposed
his vision in a research proposal titled Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework. This
extensive document poses a hypothesis that the intellectual capacity of a human can be improved with
an engineered approach restructuring the components of our system of comprehension. The
framework is best described

Excerpt From The Book Thief
In a dimly lit stone room, gathered around a simple stone table, surrounded by plain stone pillars,
eight large figures stood barking at each other in harsh, guttural tones. The room was undecorated;
made for utility without much care for how it pleased the eye. The green skinned men occupying the
room were far better decorated, wearing coloured furs over their leather and chain armor. Each one
was adorned with a sigil representing their tribe hanging from a chain around their neck. The largest
among them, however, wore no sigil. Instead he wore a simple iron crown with no decorations. This
marked him as the chosen leader of the tribes, and he was the only one present who held a blade. The

then, that we want? asked one the younger, more bold chieftains. War stated the warchief, matter of
factly, were it anything else, none of us would be here. And I would not have been picked to lead our

opportunity to speak. Indeed, war is the purpose of this gathering. the old chief tapped the table

Fleur And Lily Quotes
Fleur Versus Lily: The Greatest Game Ever Played Louise Erdrich s Fleur examines sexism through a
folk tale lens. Throughout the story, Fleur, the mysterious and aloof protagonist, possesses
superhuman and animal powers she is revived copious times and viciously avenges men who have
slighted her. Gossip surrounds the supernatural Fleur; Chippewa and American men and women alike
are mystified and intimidated by her. The selected passage is no different. It serves to introduce and
foreshadow the later tension between Fleur and her male boss and co workers. The passage also
reveals insight into the characters Fleur and Lily; symbolism, diction, and the allotment of animal
traits to the characters enforce Fleur as a superior, enigmatic character, and Lily as an inferior, simple
character. Fleur s and Lily s characterization and actions in the selected passage echo the
transformation of classic male female interaction in Erdrich s Fleur . Before the selected passage, there
are several instances in which Fleur is pitted against various men, and ultimately (though in bizzare
ways), Fleur prevails. Immediately prior to the passage, the narrator describes the tedium of the town
of Argus, and of the male laborer s conversations this ceases when Fleur finally gave them a subject

Reflective Essay On Tolerance In Society
Tolerance, the ability to accept and defend others despite differences in views and ideas, is something
that can be easily forgotten yet is the foundation for peace between people. As someone who grew up
in a very open minded family, I would have never thought I d be someone who still needs to learn to
be more tolerant, but in 6th grade I discovered that that was exactly what I had to do.
8:45 AM, September 11th 2001: The first plane collides with the North Tower of the World Trade
Center. During the following weeks the screams of victims and grieving families permeated the
country s air, but under those screams came quieter yet damaging whispers. Whispers of intolerance,
generalizing all muslim people and blaming them for the actions of a sole extremist group. Whispers
that even today, over 16 years later, can still be heard and felt across America. Hateful whispers that,
though damaging and cruel, have led to some like myself learning the importance of becoming more
tolerant.
For most of my childhood, I lived in mostly white areas with an insignificant amount of exposure to
people different than myself. This meant that I grew up hearing the discriminatory whispers against
Muslim people from the people that I went to school with. Although I logically knew that judging
someone for something so miniscule such as race or religion is ridiculous, subconsciously a lingering
subtle fear remained. I ve learned since then that this fear and lack of tolerance is not one created

1. Why is Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loans? (V)
Why might it make sense for Citigroup to SELL this loan portfolio? Banks would normally be able to
absorb a few billion dollars of bridge loans on their balance sheet BUT the issue lies in the systemic
nature of the underwriting risk.
In 2008, banks were under pressure to sell the assets on their books more broadly.
Like many others, Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and write downs and was facing the
prospect of having even more considerable losses. (See Case pp. 2 3.)

Essay Financial Markets Deregulate
Thanks to deregulation technological advances, Financial Markets are all interlinked. Funds can thus
be raised overseas, not only domestically.
Deregulation is the process by which rules and regulations are removed or reduced in order to make
markets increasingly efficient. The rationale behind this is that deregulation will promote
competitiveness, and therefore result in lower prices and a more efficient marketplace.
To realise the effect of deregulation and technological advances on financial markets, we first have to
understand what financial markets are. Basically, a financial market is a mechanism that allows people
to buy and sell financial securities, commodities and other fungible items of low value at low

With easy accessibility of the Internet, financial information can be disseminated quickly and hence
investors are able to make better informed decisions. This accessibility of information and
deregulation has encouraged foreign investments, and we can see the surge of new financial products
and an increase in financial innovation in the markets today. Stocks can now be dual listed, traded
across markets in two different countries. For example, many large Canadian companies are listed
both on the New York Stock Exchange as well as the Toronto Stock Exchange. There are also
Brazilian based companies listed on both the Brazilian and US stock markets. This adds greater
liquidity to the companies shares traded, and also gives investors more options as to where they can
trade.
The reduction of government restrictions has even allowed stock markets to take it one step further.
We hear of the Nasdaq owning 31% of the London Stock Exchange s (LSE) shares and talks of
acquiring it were in the works, but they have now decided to focus instead on taking over Sweden s
OMX AB. In late June this year, the LSE announced a merger with the Borsa Italiana SpA for $2.19
billion. One would never have heard of this happening had widespread deregulation not occurred.
In Singapore, the ability to trade stocks and shares has become easily accessible due to online trading.

U.S. Antidumping Duties on Shrimp Imported from Thailand
U.S. antidumping duties on shrimp imported from Thailand
Summary:
The case happened because US shrimpers call for end GSP. The largest seafood associations in the US
tried to lobby campaign in Washington to cut generalized system of preference (GSP) privileges to
Thailand. They want the US congress to look into Thailand s business practices. They said Thai
shrimp imports have been a serious problem for us and shrimp farmers across the US for years, and
we need to bring attention to the issue and the country s business practices. However, Thailand is
already undertaking action to the WTO against the US for this action.

According to WTO, zeroing is a calculation method that ignores negative margin of dumping. To
know more, see appendix 1 on how it s calculated. As a result, it causes an unfair increase of dumping
liability of exporter (WTO, n.d.). Therefore, Thailand brought this case to WTO, and this case is very
similar to the Ecuador s case which has been judged before as unfair.
My perspective
From the previous result, I quite agree with the decision made by the panel that imposing tariff
calculated by using zeroing method, as a reason of antidumping, is unfair because of the following
reasons.
According to Article VI of GATT, during the Uruguay Round, antidumping means charging extra
import duty on a product in order to bring its price closer to the fair value or to help domestic
industries from injury. Also, you need to calculate the extent of dumping, investigate the impact to
importing countries, and look into all economic factors that could affect before you can impose tariff
(definition, n.d.).
According to Free Trade Organization, Dan Ikenson, policy analyst, claims Few trade policies
engender more bitterness and international ill will than the U.S. antidumping law. For many years, that
law has been the weapon of choice among domestic producers seeking to quell import competition.
(zeroing, April 27, 2004)

Butterfly Circus Essay
Recently I watched the short film Butterfly Circus by Joshua Weigel and I was very pleased. Prior to
watching the movie, only having read the title I immediately thought this was going to be a cartoon for
a young child. As I watched the first scene I shortly realized this was not the case. Weigel introduces a
familiar face Nick Vujicic, The Limbless man, a main character in this short film. The film is about the
famous showman going to a small circus sideshow and finding the magnificent limbless man in a time
of anguish while being bullied by the audience and other members of the freak show . After the
limbless man s encounter with the showman he is forced to gain hope against anything negative he has
ever believed.
This movie opens with the setting in the depression era. A fleet of old cars traveling down a dirt road
passing families as they watch the car caravan with sorrowful eyes. Inside the fleet of old cars is the
company of the renowned Butterfly Circus on their way to the next town to lift the spirits of their
audiences. As they pass a sign for a carnival sideshow, the little boy asks the driver if they can go. The
driver answers reluctantly so the little boy ask Mr. Mendez, the famous showman, and he says, why
not . Among the carousel, the fortune teller, and the games they find the show that everyone has come
to see. There sits a small tent that is known as the best freak show in town . In this company of freaks

Essay Stan Kenton Stan Kenton: Progressive Concepts in Jazz Stanley Newcomb Kenton is one of the most influential figures to be found in all of jazz history, even being called the most significant figure of the Modern Jazz age by Frank Sinatra (Agostinelli, 6). Kenton s progressive concepts of how music is written and performed greatly affected the genre of jazz, and created something new and unique. Always under controversy, Kenton and his band always strove to do something different, never settling into a niche for long periods of time. Even today, when hearing modern jazz performers (particularly big bands) one can often hear the influence from Kenton s music. The standard big band sound of the late 1940s and 1950s was very laid back. Rhythmically, it was normal to play just behind the beat to create this relaxed feel, with a definite emphasis on the swing style. Swing music was usually composed of one melody played by one section of the band, and other sections, if playing at all, would play chord hits in different places. The function of the rhythm section is mostly to comp and stay out of the way. These bands usually stayed within either 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, or 2/4 time signatures. Kenton altered this system in many ways to create something fresh and progressive. Kenton s sound was more aggressive and even occasionally more abrasive than of other bands. The saxophones played strongly, with screaming trumpets, and a lush, rich trombone sound. One aspect that made the Kenton charts different from others was the layering techniques used within the band. This would involve one section of the band playing a melody. Then another section would play a different melody over top of the first one. Both would compliment each other rhythmically and harmonically. This process could then continue, adding more lines. When extracted, each line is still interesting by itself. The best example of layering in the Kenton library is Artistry in Rhythm. This tune begins with the rhythm section playing a riff over which the sax section plays the main melody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By doing this, Franz makes the similarities and differences very obvious, yet each text is complex in their own way. In The Trial and The Metamorphosis, Kafka uses unique aspects to compare the characters in each novel. Each character is being forced by anonymous forces. They both go through loneliness to find the meaning behind their suffering. Each similarity and difference in The Trial and The Metamorphosis, come along with complexity that gives readers a deeper psychological view. In having these similarities and differences, it can be arguable that the characters had inevitable deaths. At the end, their death may or may not have been preventable which shows their struggle in each story. In both, The Trial and The Metamorphosis, the characters never find out who the anonymous forces are. This is one of the dominant issues of both stories which concludes to be one of the similarities. One of the examples would be from The Trial, in this scene of The Trial, Joseph K is leaving the bank and as he is passing by a lumber room, he realizes that some of the warders are getting beaten. He asked for the man beating them to stop but the man did not listen and continued to beat them. The difference between these stories is that they handle their situation in a very different ways. In The Metamorphosis, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was noted that this was not out of the ordinary at WorldCom. In your opinion, was this a proper accounting practice? Explain. This is definitely not an appropriate practice because expenses need to be recognized in accordance with the matching principle. On the topic of capitalizing line costs, critique the rationale included in CEO Scott Sullivan s White Paper. Based on your own analysis of GAAP, explain the propriety or impropriety of capitalizing line costs in the telecom industry. Sullivan explained his rationale in a report to the Board of Directors referred as the white papers. In order to meet the customer demand for Internet and data expected to increase at the 8 times annual growth factor, Worldcom had to significantly increase its capital investments. Lease commitments were established to expedite the customer provisioning and revenue stream in accordance with SAB 101, and supplemented by FASB 91, direct and indirect costs associated with obtaining a customer may be deferred and amortized over the revenue stream associated with that contract. So instead of recognizing these expenses immediately, the portion of the unused capacity was able to be expensed later when the revenue was realized. • 11. Comparison Of Monster In Frankenstein In the Novel Frankenstein by Mary shelly, the novel jumps between the two narrative perspectives of monster and creator. By jumping from two different perspectives throughout the novel we are able to understand the thoughts and feelings of each character in a new way. Reading through different perspectives, allows the story to have greater depth and meaning. Each perspective brings a new dimension to the novel that makes for a more complex story. Furthermore, the perspectives allow for the two characters to be compared and contrasted throughout the entirety of the novel. When reading from Victor s point of view, we can see how he feels about the monster. How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. While both Haberman and Covington focus on a certain religion and the traditions of its followers, Haberman does a better job with presenting an accurate representation of Hinduism and the Braj pilgrimage. This is because Covington s book delves too deeply into his personal journey and opinion without explaining any details or history of Christianity and the snake handling, while Haberman gives the reader history of Hinduism and the significance of the Braj pilgrimage. ... While both attempt to take an ethnographic approach, Covington s writing truly does show the journalistic background he came from, since it came off as almost more story telling than an actual research piece. Haberman, on the other hand, provided the reader with a large amount of background and history on Hinduism, essentially assuming the reader didn t know anything about Hinduism going into the book. This made it so that while the reader was going on the journey of the pilgrimage with Haberman, they were also getting the informational and historical background of Hinduism and why the pilgrimage was performed, something that Covington cannot grasp so well. This could partly be because Covington assumes his audience is coming from a Christian and Western perspective, meaning a background and history of Christianity isn t necessary. While Haberman, on the other hand, makes the same assumption, so a history and background of Hinduism would be necessary to accurately tell and portray the whole story. It is more appropriate for researchers to assume that their audience lacks the background knowledge than that they have it, because there could be missed information or unclear points made by the researchers otherwise. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated to eat unhealthy, not tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), burgers (meat slapped on two ... About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on their needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between two slices of bread, be? The Importance Of Reward Enhances Motivation And Motivation DISCUSSION The aim of this experiment was to test whether or not reward enhances motivation, therefore enhancing results of performance. My hypothesis stated that results would be inconclusive due to subjects being self motivated and happy to do their best. I thought that this no effect on their performances. I took consideration into realising that subjects may not be self motivated and needed a reward to spur them on to performing at their best. I could not underestimate the chance of choking under pressure and this could lead to inconclusive differing results. The test result showed no real change in stats, due to lack of subject numbers, it was difficult to determine whether or not motivation and performance was enhanced through reward. However Figure 2 above did indicate a change in performance leaning towards more success when reward was a part of the experiment at an average of hitting two free throws out of ten, compared to motivation averages of two point seven out of ten. Table 1 shows a mixed bag of results in terms of performance, many subjects produced better performances with the reward at stake, compared to those who had no real change to their performance outcome. The On The Peoples Republic Of China s Economy The Peoples Republic of China s economy is now the second largest in the world with an estimated gross domestic product of $9.24 trillion USD (China, 2014). This is the result of a strict economic reform policy put into place in 1978, which removed emphasis on the agricultural sector and moved to the energy intensive sector of manufacturing. The growing demand for energy often came in the form of highly polluting coal fired power plants, but in 1992 the Three Gorges Dam was approved with construction beginning in 1994. The world s largest dam was intended to produce power economically, reduce environmental impacts, and help to prevent floods downstream. However, the Three Gorges Dam is often seen as highly controversial due to foreseen and unforeseen problems that have arisen following its completion in 2012 (Jackson and Sleigh, 2000). The second option is to mainly maintain or slightly raise the price to establish P amp;G s diaper brand Pampers as a premium brand in the segment. As someone who grew up in a very open minded family, I would have never thought I d be someone who still needs to learn to be more tolerant, but in 6th grade I discovered that that was exactly what I had to do. 8:45 AM, September 11th 2001: The first plane collides with the North Tower of the World Trade Center. During the following weeks the screams of victims and grieving families permeated the country s air, but under those screams came quieter yet damaging whispers. Whispers of intolerance, generalizing all muslim people and blaming them for the actions of a sole extremist group. Whispers that even today, over 16 years later, can still be heard and felt across America. Hateful whispers that, though damaging and cruel, have led to some like myself learning the importance of becoming more tolerant. For most of my childhood, I lived in mostly white areas with an insignificant amount of exposure to people different than myself. This meant that I grew up hearing the discriminatory whispers against Muslim people from the people that I went to school with. Although I logically knew that judging someone for something so miniscule such as race or religion is ridiculous, subconsciously a lingering subtle fear remained. I ve learned since then that this fear and lack of tolerance is not one created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio BLACKSTONE AND THE SALE OF CITIGROUP S LOAN PORTFOLIO Market Conditions (I) Corporate credit expansion in the U.S. between 2001 and the first half of 2007 was driven almost exclusively by the inflow of institutional (non bank) funding into the syndicated loan market. The participation of a wide range of institutional investors (including structured funds known as collateralized loans obligations (CLOs), hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds, and insurance companies) in the corporate loan market was facilitated by loan syndication. (V) Why might it make sense for Citigroup to SELL this loan portfolio? Banks would normally be able to absorb a few billion dollars of bridge loans on their balance sheet BUT the issue lies in the systemic nature of the underwriting risk. In 2008, banks were under pressure to sell the assets on their books more broadly. Like many others, Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and write downs and was facing the prospect of having even more considerable losses. (See Case pp. 2 3.) There are also Brazilian based companies listed on both the Brazilian and US stock markets. This adds greater liquidity to the companies shares traded, and also gives investors more options as to where they can trade. The reduction of government restrictions has even allowed stock markets to take it one step further. We hear of the Nasdaq owning 31% of the London Stock Exchange s (LSE) shares and talks of acquiring it were in the works, but they have now decided to focus instead on taking over Sweden s OMX AB. In late June this year, the LSE announced a merger with the Borsa Italiana SpA for $2.19 billion. One would never have heard of this happening had widespread deregulation not occurred. • 38. U.S. Antidumping Duties on Shrimp Imported from Thailand U.S. antidumping duties on shrimp imported from Thailand Summary: The case happened because US shrimpers call for end GSP. The largest seafood associations in the US tried to lobby campaign in Washington to cut generalized system of preference (GSP) privileges to Thailand. They want the US congress to look into Thailand s business practices. They said Thai shrimp imports have been a serious problem for us and shrimp farmers across the US for years, and we need to bring attention to the issue and the country s business practices. However, Thailand is already undertaking action to the WTO against the US for this action. Mr. Somsak Paneet, president of the Thai Shrimp Association, said that the cancellation of GSP privilege will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to WTO, zeroing is a calculation method that ignores negative margin of dumping. To know more, see appendix 1 on how it s calculated. As a result, it causes an unfair increase of dumping liability of exporter (WTO, n.d.). Therefore, Thailand brought this case to WTO, and this case is very similar to the Ecuador s case which has been judged before as unfair. My perspective From the previous result, I quite agree with the decision made by the panel that imposing tariff calculated by using zeroing method, as a reason of antidumping, is unfair because of the following reasons. According to Article VI of GATT, during the Uruguay Round, antidumping means charging extra import duty on a product in order to bring its price closer to the fair value or to help domestic industries from injury. Also, you need to calculate the extent of dumping, investigate the impact to importing countries, and look into all economic factors that could affect before you can impose tariff (definition, n.d.). According to Free Trade Organization, Dan Ikenson, policy analyst, claims Few trade policies engender more bitterness and international ill will than the U.S. antidumping law. For many years, that law has been the weapon of choice among domestic producers seeking to quell import competition. (zeroing, April 27, 2004) According to the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, at the Uruguay Round, states This agreement will extend and clarify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Butterfly Circus Essay Recently I watched the short film Butterfly Circus by Joshua Weigel and I was very pleased. Prior to watching the movie, only having read the title I immediately thought this was going to be a cartoon for a young child. As I watched the first scene I shortly realized this was not the case. Weigel introduces a familiar face Nick Vujicic, The Limbless man, a main character in this short film. The film is about the famous showman going to a small circus sideshow and finding the magnificent limbless man in a time of anguish while being bullied by the audience and other members of the freak show . After the limbless man s encounter with the showman he is forced to gain hope against anything negative he has ever believed. This movie opens with the setting in the depression era. A fleet of old cars traveling down a dirt road passing families as they watch the car caravan with sorrowful eyes. Inside the fleet of old cars is the company of the renowned Butterfly Circus on their way to the next town to lift the spirits of their audiences. As they pass a sign for a carnival sideshow, the little boy asks the driver if they can go. The driver answers reluctantly so the little boy ask Mr. Mendez, the famous showman, and he says, why not .
