Ethnic Minorities and Elder Employment Essay
An ethnic minority is a group of people who differ in race or color or in national, religious, or cultural
origin from the dominant group often the majority population of the country in which they live. The
different identity of an ethnic minority may be displayed in any number of ways, ranging from
distinctive customs, lifestyles, language or accent, dress, and food preferences to particular attitudes,
moral values, and economic or political beliefs espoused by members of the group. Characteristically
the minority is recognized, but it is not necessarily accepted by the larger society in which its
members live. The nature of the relationship of the ethnic minority to the larger society will tend to
determine whether the minority group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These facts, together with those already existing in built barrels for elder job seekers, make the job
seeking processions for minority elderly a painful experience. Moreover, minority elderly tend to be
ignored to some extent by most already existing programs and organizations which provide assistance
to senior employment. As a result, we are planning to initialize a new program targeted on the
minority elderly who are trying to seek employment in our community in order to increase the life
quality of the minority elderly as well as the harmonious of our highly diversified community.
Our community organization, XXX, which has long been devoting to the improvement of life quality
for senior citizens, should take this fact into consideration. Therefore, here we propose the
initialization of a program which is going to focus on the employment services for minority elderly in
our community.

A Lot Of The Children Interviewed Within The First Chapter
A lot of the children interviewed within the first chapter of Peter W. Singer s book Children at War are
under the age of 12. They speak of torturing people in the most horrific of ways. Such as when joining
the paramilitaries, A., age twelve, states that the first thing they make you do is kill someone. A
random person is picked for the recruits to chop off his hands and arms. It is important to realize
however, that not all of these child soldiers are as young as 7. Singer explains that a A child soldier is
generally defined (under both international law and common practice) as any person under eighteen
years of age who is engaged in deadly combat or combat support as part of an armed force or group.

By the end of the Civil War Cook was involved in more than twenty battles. The example of John
Cook is far different than the young boys involved in today s wars. Such as in Sierra Leone, the young
boys that are soldiers were forced into fighting with rebel groups to cause terror. Much different from
Cook, he was involved because he wanted to and he took actions into his own hands because of his
bravery and patriotism. It is easy to see that child soldiers have been involved all around the world for
centuries. Singer states by the twenty first century child soldiers had served in significant numbers on
ever continent of the globe but Antarctica. From 1998 to 2001 the countries that were active
combatants were Mexico, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, Sierra Leone,
Liberia, Cote d Ivoire, Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Macedonia, Algeria, Chad, Republic of Congo,
Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan,
Eritrea, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Nepal,
India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, East Timor, Philippians, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and lastly
the Russian Federation. Noticeably a lot of these listed countries are African. Singer writes, Africa is

American Exceptionalism Research Paper
The topic of American Exceptionalism is a very contentious one. Over the past several years, news
pundits have brought up the subject repeatedly and some on both the right and the left frequently use it
as a litmus test for ideological purity. Generally speaking, there are two lines of thought that dominate
the discussion of this topic.
One line of thought holds that American Exceptionalism is very real and has had a profound impact on
the United States. There are two related threads involved in this argument. First is the idea that
because the United States was created as, what one might call, the first new nation, emerging out of an
explosive revolutionary event that severed all connections between America and Europe. Under these
circumstances,

Observation Essay
Observation Essay The Barbershop
Immediately I recognized that things were different, as I struggled to find a parking spot in the tiny lot
hidden just off of the highway. The barbershop is located in an area too small to be considered a strip
mall and apparently too small to handle all of its customers vehicles. It is the third in a row of three
shops, although the first, a former ice cream/water ice business, was for rent. I knew that all of the
drivers of the automobiles in the lot were in the barbershop, as the repair shop next to it does not open
until 9 A.M. Apparently all Saturday mornings here begin with such a full parking lot. Once I found a
parking spot, I was ready to begin my observation of the U.S. Male Men s Hair ... Show more content

A tiny television with a screen approximately six inches high, located in the middle of the four barbers
stations, was displaying CNN, but the sound was turned down. When the razors stopped buzzing, the
classic rock radio station seemed to blare through the quiet. Despite the open door, the air conditioner
was moaning softly in the background.
I took this opportunity to examine my surroundings. To the right of the opened front door was a
gumball machine and a green leafy plant. The counter in front of the door seemed to have no
immediate purpose, except to hold another leafy plant and some additional magazines that were
strewn about it. Above the chairs where I was sitting was a mirror, which I presume is used by the
nervous customer who wants to keep an eye on the way in which the barber cuts his hair. Another wall
sectioned off an area from the four barbers stations, which I knew to be the owner s workspace. His
station basically was set up as were the others, but he had more room in which to work. There was one
sink on the opposite side of his wall for use in case a customer wanted a premium cut, which includes
a shampoo and conditioning wash or a color treatment. In the corner, between the sink and the fourth
barber s station, was the ATM, conveniently located next to the cash register. This is practical because
the barbershop only accepts cash for payment.

Teenage Brains
The brain has the function of making their body work and help with the teens brain daily life. The
gray matter is where nerves are located. They are affect the way the person acts. The gray matter is
where the nerves are located . One nerve is made up of neurons a nerve cell The neuron is made up of
dendrites, axons and nucleus . The dendrites receive signals from axon terminals and this is a
synapses. As a teen grows the brain starts pruning its synapses. With this the brain is taking out
instructions the brain can already do or already knows. This is making room for new ideas. The brain
secretes many hormones and neurotransmitters. A well known and used neurotransmitter is dopamine.

Going back to the gray matter, the outer layer of gray matter is the frontal cortex. This is where we
make decisions and where we do much of our conscious and complicated thinking. Phineas Gage, a
renowned neuroscience patient in the 1800, was hit with a iron rod to the head, yet minutes after he
was still able to move and act normal (Fleischman 6). The only thing was that he could not make
decisions. When given a $1000 for the pebbles he collected, he angrily refused the deal( 19). He was
not able to make the decision of getting the money or not. Neuroscientists have learned so much of the
brain that has helped us understand our own brains and the people around us. From this scientist
learned that the sections of the brain had parts and functions such as language and comprehension(65).
Lastly they learned about germs and that you need to make sure to disinfect your tools(17). Without
this our technology that is here would not be as progressed if we did not know this. All of these
components helped us understand the teen brain just a little bit

Poor Kids Documentary Analysis
In the 2012 documentary Poor Kids, children living in the Quad Cities reflect on their lives in poverty.
Each story is different but similar in many ways. At the time of the film, there were sixteen million
children reported who were affected by poverty. The film also stated that one in five children were
living in poverty. With large quantities of children being affected by poverty, the important to
understand how these children are dealing with the factors of poverty.
Three different children; Brittany, Kaylie, and Jasmine as well their families were followed by
cameras through the hardships of poverty. These families slowly trickled their way into poverty. For
example, Brittany and Jasmin s families both suffered a blow to their main income which was a major
contribution to their lives in poverty. For these children and many like them, they do not have the
choice to escape poverty. Their parents are their main providers and are responsible to supply a proper
living environment such as shelter, food, and water. Children can not contribute significant amounts of
money to help their families survive. For example, Kaylie collects metal cans around her
neighborhood to receive two to five cents for each can, depending on ... Show more content on

The Importance Of Energy
Energy is a crucial necessity in life for humans and wildlife. Quality of life is dependent on our
accessibility of energy. The environmental crisis has been felt by everyone in some way. The need for
energy continues to increase as the population grows. Relying on past resources for energy will
continue to torment the environment and negatively impact the level of supply. Energy is a resource
that can be depleted if the abuse continues. Pollution from energy sources has caused the environment
to deteriorate. The negative influences from energy sources has caused health problems, loss of
wildlife and abuse of other resources. In order to protect public health and the future of the
environment, preventable measures must be taken.
Energy is used for everything we do in life. The two types of energy sources are renewable and
nonrenewable. Nonrenewable energy is a source that cannot be used again because it does not renew
itself. Renewable energy is a source that can be used again because it can be replenished. There are
different sources available for each type of energy. Each resource has its own advantages and
disadvantages. Each source has economic and ecological impacts that need to be evaluated.
More than 80% of energy in the US comes from fossil fuels (Eia). Fossil fuel is the world s primary
energy source (Eia). Fossil fuels are used for transportation, heating and electricity. Natural gas is used
for electricity and heating homes and buildings. Coal is used to generate

War Narrative
It started out as yet another wet and sloppy day in the camp with nothing to do. I sat in my bunk
listening to my buddies talk amongst themselves about the crappy weather and the war. They chatted
about the normal things; all of them wanting to finally get home and be dry, but all of them knowing
that it would not happen any time soon. As I sat there in my hard cot, my mind drifted off to the fond
memories of home in Iowa. I remember my sister and my two brothers and recall the great times we
had together. I can still picture the looks on the faces of my family as I left them that day and also the
face of my dear wife, Chris. Oh, how I miss them all so much and I know that I have to make it back
to them. I also think about my job back at home at the truck and trailer repair shop and the ... Show

with the days of the draft in 1969. I sat and listened to all the dates being called out and finally, I heard
my birthday. My heart sank, while I stood shocked and I just stopped thinking and moving. Life,
however, didn t stop with me and the time before being brought in for the first round of training came
by like a rocket. There was hardly anytime to blink prior to the first day of training. Training was a
very hard and rough experience, especially, due to the fact I was not a good runner. I can still faintly
feel the in my arms from the numerous pushups and physical activities that we endured. Beyond the
physical pain, came the mental and emotional strain of getting ready for a war. I was only 19 years old
at the time and had not really had a chance to grow up. So I had to quickly learn how to be self
sufficient and learn how to take orders in order to survive. Following the six weeks of initial training, I

the major factors in improving the global distribution system and has forced many auto giants such as
General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, and Daimler Chrysler, to shift their production
bases in different developing countries which help them operate efficiently in a globally competitive

Globalisation of the automotive industry
Firms globalize when they attempt to integrate key day to day functions on a global scale, such as

Mexico are a good example).
From a geographic point of view, the world automotive industry is in the midst of a profound

discrete national industries to a more integrated global industry. Global integration embeds firms in
larger regional and global scale systems of production, consumption, innovation, sourcing, command

“Evaluate the Strengths and Weaknesses of Reason as a...
Reasoning is the thinking that is coherent and logical. As the dictionary definition very clearly and
correctly states, reasoning is certain thinking or a conclusion drawn from a logical fact. Hence, the
reasoning of a certain thing, which is a conclusion drawn from an existing fact or the happening of an
event, is trusted more than the conclusion which is drawn due the development of one s emotions.
Consequently, when a person would say to another, You re being emotional , it is considered as a
cynical comment while the statement, You re being logical is taken as praise. Therefore, it is obvious
that logic and reasoning holds strengths which are stronger than those of emotions.
In today s world, the younger generation is burdened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, one very big limitation of reason is that it does not account for any emotions which are
involved in the scenario.
In addition, another weakness of reason is that is does not people open their minds to newer prospects
because the reason restricts their mind to think in only one way. For example, in the book Train to
Pakistan , by Khushwant Singh, the police just arrest Juggut Singh, thinking that he was involved in
the murder of Lala Ram Lal without any proof actual proof of what exactly happened, because Juggut
Singh was a known badmash and that may have been a grave enough reason for the police to arrest
him. This incident in the book shows that without knowing the culprit, the wrong person was arrested
just because the person arrested had no other reputation except that of a scoundrel. Hence, this
example shows that when there is a reason behind something, which in this case was Juggut Singh s
poor reputation, it makes the other people, who are involved in the scene, less open minded.
Furthermore, reasoning is only possible when the correct data and required knowledge are present.
This is because reasoning is only based on the data which is provided, and cannot be based on data
that has not been taken into account. For example, if an event occurs periodically, and one observes
just one of the occurring and bases his/her reason on that, then it

The Creation Of The New German Nation, Or What Would Become
The creation of the new German nation, or what would become known as the German Unification,
mirrored similar revolutions around the globe, including that of the Meiji Restoration and the Ita lian
Unification. Undoubtably, by the turn of 1871, a new German Empire emerged, but what remains in
uncertain territories, is whether this new German Empire was created from above or below. Neither
position can be disregarded or invalidated, as the power of the people holds equal significance to that
of the people in power. However, as clearly highlighted by Ernest Renan in a declaration of
nationhood, we [the people] are what you make us; we are what you are , demonstrates the complex
relationship between a nation, its leaders and their people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Danes and Alsace Lorrainers were inconvenienced by war, as their respective nations loss to
Germany had left their lands to be transferred from one nation to another and they somewhat found
themselves left to be an alienated minority in a new country that was not their own. While, the Poles
were the butt of historic German feelings of superiority , as they d generally found themselves within
the German Empire and along with the other minorities, they were all, in one way or another, treated
as actual or potential enemies of the Empire . Essentially, this was a period of internal division in
Germany , as the minorities of the Poles, the Danes and Alsace Lorrainers combined with others that
opposed the nature of the new German nation, including many catholics, set the reality that although
the new German nation had been created from above, it was yet to be brought into existence below.
This left the creation of the German nation to mirror the reality of Italian unification, as highlight by
Massimo d Azeglio we have made Italy, now we have to make the Italians . Therefore, the German
nation was created from above, but it also needed to be created from below as well.
With the German nation having been created from above, it then needed its citizens to be created as

Humbert s Description of Lolita
In Chapter 31 of Part 1 of Lolita, Humbert and Lolita are in the lobby of the Enchanted Hunters only
hours after consummating their sexual relationship. As Humbert arrives in the lobby to check out of
the hotel, he observes Lolita as she sits reading a movie magazine in a large armchair, and his
description of her progresses from a focus on her loss of innocence to a focus on her inner, demonic
nature. As elsewhere in the novel, the reader here sees Humbert attempting to mitigate his own sense
of guilt and self loathing.
His description of Lolita is typical Humbert, with an almost obsessive attention to detail as his eyes
glide over her body from her shoes to her eyes and face: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the passage goes on, Humbert s portrait of Lolita gets more detailed, moving from descriptions of
her childish clothing ( saddle oxfords and pink frock ) to evidence of their recent lovemaking:
Nothing could have been more childish than her snubbed nose, freckled face or the purplish spot on
her naked neck where a fairytale vampire had feasted, or the unconscious movement of her tongue
exploring a touch of rosy rash around her swollen lips. (138 39)
The hickey and the rash around Lolita s mouth produced by Humbert s unshaven face signify her loss
of innocence, but they also depict her as Humbert s prey and his victim. He is the fairytale vampire
feasting on Lolita and leaving visible signs of his depredation on her childlike body. Indeed, these
details come surrounded by a series of parallel phrases that emphasize the girl s innocence: Nothing
could have been more childish . . . nothing could be more harmless . . . nothing could be more
innocent . . . nothing could be more naive.
So far, so good. Having had intercourse with Lolita earlier that morning Humbert, not surprisingly,
sees her as his victim, sees both her childlike innocence and the signs of his own brutal assault on that
innocence. But at the end of the passage, Humbert s understanding of Lolita and her lost innocence
changes radically as he proclaims her to

Part Of A Community In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Traveling around California are two best friends, George Milton and Lennie Smalls. Their relationship
demonstrates the various characteristics that are shown in a community. In the novella Of Mice and
Men by John Steinbeck, there are numerous examples that establish what it means to be part of a
community; which proves it exemplifies the important traits shown in a community the best out of
other books read. Throughout the novella, there are countless examples that demonstrate what it
means to be part of a community; this includes friendships, the American dream, and teamwork.
George and Lennie have a strong friendship and throughout the book, it is easy to tell that their
friendship gets stronger day after day. While the Great Depression was taking place, Men would travel
to find a job; but it was uncommon for Men to stick by each other s side. I hardly never seen two guys
travel together (67). Slim is stating that normally guys tend to travel alone to look for a job so that
they can earn some money to support themselves. This is an excellent example of friendship because
although it is uncommon to travel together, George and Lennie still stick by each other s side. Since
Lennie often has a hard time to make the right decisions, George always has to remind him to do the
right thing. Lennie if you jus happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come

government, the industry being new.
The well board is manufactured from coir dust and short fibers. No binding materials are needed as
lignin is inherent in the coconut husk. Also it is termite proof because creosote is present in the new

the body. The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by the
brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic ducts
drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the duodenum.
The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and functions
to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the duodenum the
sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the common bile duct into
the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates the bile by re absorbing
water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that emulsify the fats in the
chime. It also contains cholesterol tat can be eliminated from the body. The cholecystokinin is a
hormone secreted from the intestinal mucosa and is triggered by fat in the chime. The CCK causes the
gallbladder to contract and push the stored bile into the ducts leading to duodenum.
20. Discuss the role of enzymes in chemical digestion. Page 517
Chemical digestion consists of numerous chemical reactions catalysed by enzymes in saliva, gastric
juice, pancreatic juice and intestinal juice. During chemical digestion the enzymes very selectively
speed up the breakdown of specific nutrient molecules. For example, the enzymes responsible for

Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, And Mesopotamia
In ancient Egypt, Rome and Mesopotamia the connections that the people had with their rulers
stemmed from their belief that their ruler had a close connection with their God s. Because of the vast
role that religion played in their lives it was important to show their admiration and appreciation for
these royal beings. From a psychological standpoint, through their style, significance, and idealization,
Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome s depictions of royalty within their artworks functioned as the best
way to encompass the impression, and supremacy that a ruler held over their people.
For many of the people of Mesopotamia the most important part of their society was their religion and
their royalty. They believed that they held close relationships with their Gods and they believed that
their rulers were the closest possible connection that they had to their Gods. An ancient Sumerian
proverb states Man is the shadow of God, but the king is God s reflection (Alexander). The king was
believed to be personally chosen by the gods and acting in their will however they were not
considered to be god like.
The king s responsibilities included participating in religious rituals, managing the state during peace
and war time, and creating laws. The Mesopotamians believed that in order to protect themselves they
needed to gain more resources and people and this was done by expanding and conquering
surrounding areas. Another role of the king was to issue codes of law with the ideal that he

Metropolitan Museum Essay
From September 2013 through January 2014, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City was
home to an exhibition entitled Medieval Treasures from Hildesheim. The exhibition featured 48 pieces
from various media which all originated from the UNESCO Heritage Sites of Saint Mary s Cathedral
or St. Michael s Church in Hildesheim, Germany. These objects consisted of 6 full or partial
manuscripts and 42 sculptural pieces, including 7 reliquaries, 4 portable altars, and 3 liturgical fans.
Most of the sculptural pieces had liturgical uses, an almost all were crafted out of copper, gold, and/or
silver. What is most fascinating about these items is that none of them belong to the Metropolitan

The exhibition was arranged by curator Peter Barnet, in conjunction with the director of the
Hildesheim Cathedral Museum, Michael Brandt, and a curator from the Hildesheim Cathedral
Museum, Gerhard Lutz. The exhibition catalogue also includes a foreword from the Dean of
Hildesheim Cathedral, Hans Georg Koitz where he reveals that these objects are on display in New
York because the museum in Hildesheim, where they are normally displayed, is under renovations for
an expansion. This final observation brings me to my main question which my paper will address:
with a collection as encyclopedic as the Metropolitan Museum of Art s, why would a curator want to
bring 48 artistically and religiously significant artifacts from Hildesheim, Germany to New York for
an exhibition? These objects all had to be shipped thousands of miles in order to be shown in a lesser
exhibition for less than 5 months. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has one of the largest collections
of Medieval art in the world, which is elaborated on at length in the director s forward from Thomas P.
Campbell, and the untrained eye has a difficult time telling the difference between, for example, the
two arm reliquaries owned by the museum

Obviously, group social contexts are one thing, business meetings and dates are another. In the case of
the latter two, it s polite to be punctual. Tipping each time you go to a bar In many countries a 10

need to throw your cash around. If you want to leave a tip, just round the bill up to the nearest 0 or 5
and that will do nicely. Drinking too much at parties Some cultures drink more than others and the
Italians drink less than most. Obviously this is a bit of a generalization, but if you want to make
friends or network at your next Italian party, it s probably a good idea to take it easy on the booze. In
Italy, drinking so much that you, shout/fall over/cry/fight/tell the dude next to you I love you / discuss

Topic: PowerAde
PowerAde was presented to the public in 1988 as a fountain beverage by researchers at the Coca Cola
Company. However, it wasn t until 1992 when it was suggested that the product be released as a ready
to drink thirst quencher or better known as a sport drink. This idea was the spark that ignited a
competitive sports drink market. Before PowerAde s launch in 1992, the sports drink market was
solely monopolized by Gatorade. Nevertheless, PowerAde extricated itself from Gatorade by adding
vitamins B3, B6, and B12, which were said to enhance the metabolism of carbohydrate energy. At this

The judge concluded that there was no value to Gatorade s grievance that PowerAde s marketing
slogan inferred that PowerAde Ion4 was more complete than Gatorade. The ruling may have seemed
like a win for PowerAde, but the damage was already done due to the lawsuit s pessimistic publicity.
PowerAde has grown successfully over the past years by globally employing principle marketing
strategies that adhere to several facets of sport drink consumers. First, PowerAde increased its
association with developed high profile international sporting events such as the Olympics, NASCAR,
PGA tour, NHRA, NCAA, AFL, and FIFA World Cup. Second, PowerAde has levied global
communications to speak to consumers by upholding a hospitable appearance through the use of
global media outlets. Both marketing strategies have highly influenced adolescents which helped
PowerAde achieve its high ranked status in the sport drink industry. The sport drink industry spends
almost one billion dollars on endorsements each year. Furthermore, celebrities are featured in
endorsements campaigns such as TV commercials, billboard campaigns, print advertising, and website
ads that reinforce an affable marketing strategy. Both methods of advertisement are appealing to
adolescents because they dream to be like these celebrities. Furthermore, the mode of advertisement
caters to the desired physical attributes that adolescents desire to possess.

Underage Drinking And The Long Term Effect
There has been a large amount of research regarding underage drinking and the long term effect that it
can have on a person s body and their mental state. The public is often informed of phases and
activities that underage students are partaking in that can be extremely harmful to themselves that they
are not aware of. In the journal article The Use of Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages Among Underage
Drinkers: Results of a National Survey they examine the relationship between the tendencies underage
drinkers who drink non traditional caffeinated alcoholic beverages and traditionally caffeinated
alcoholic beverages. The study defines non traditional CABs as Pre Mixed Sodas or Energy Drinks
with Liquor added and defined traditional CABs as Liquor with soda, coffee, or tea added by the
beverage consumer.
Previous research in this field has led to the determination that the consumption of caffeinated
alcoholic beverages leads to an increased level of high risk behavior among adolescents and young
adults. Some of these high risk behaviors include driving while intoxicated, unprotected sexual
activity, and illegal substance abuse. In addition, heavy binge drinking is widely accepted as
contributing to neurocognitive deficits and increased morbidity and mortality. Much of the previous
research has focused on college aged young adults. This study hopes to greatly shed light on the age
group from 13 to 17 years old (pre collegiate adolescents). In addition, the study hopes to

Piaget s Theory On Child Development
Children are not simply small adults who are still growing; they learn differently and experience the
world in a variation of ways that opposes adult reasoning. Piaget s theory on child development asserts
that there are four stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete
operational, and formal operational. Piaget also suggested that human thinking is arranged into
schemes, organized mental patterns that represent behaviors and actions (Feldman, 2015, p. 17). These
schemes are the building blocks of knowledge and experience growth through two basic principles:
assimilation and accommodation (Feldman, 2015). Assimilation refers to the process in which people
understand new ideas in relation to their own way of thinking and adapt, where as accommodation
refers to changes in the way of thinking caused by new stimuli. Natural observation of children can
lend an insight into Piaget s stages of development, which is the method chosen for this study. For this
observation two children were selected, one male and one female. Subject A is a Caucasian male,
approximately 3 years of age, who has middle class parents, and a stay at home mom; Subject B child
is a Caucasian female, also approximately 3 years of age, has middle class parents, and a mother who
works part time. According to Piaget s theory, these two subjects are in the preoperational stage. The
preoperational stage is a time of complex thinking and reasoning, during this time,

typically a high ranked animal in the farm. He is the one everyone looks up to and listens without

The Stock Crash Essay
The Stock Crash
It was 1929, and in the United States things could not be better for those smart enough, or for that
matter, brave enough, to gamble on the Stock Market. All of the big stocks were paying off
handsomely, the little ones too. However, as much as analysis tried to tell the people that this period of
great wealth would last, no one could imagine what would come of the United States economy in the
next decade. The reasons for this catastrophic event in American 20th century history are numerous,
and in his book, The Great Crash, John Kenneth Galbraith covers the period and events which lead up
to the downward spiral in the fall of 1929 and the people behind the scenes on Wall Street who helped

As explained in the book, holding companies controlled large proportions of such facets of the
economy as railroads, utilities and the entertainment businesses. This brought on the constant danger
of devastation by reverse leverage. This meant that money made by these operations was used to pay
interest on the bonds of the holding companies. Thus, when there was a break in the money coming in,
companies could not make payments and were forced into bankruptcy, which trickled down the ladder.
The third reason given was the bad banking structure which was in place in the 20 s and into the 30 s.

people out in the cold, with no money, money which they had trusted in the hands of these banks. This
of course left the people with a bad taste in their mouths, and caused them to stop putting money in
banks, relying instead on the bottom side of their mattresses. The bad running of banks ties into
corruption also. The men who ran banks, men like Charles E. Mitchell, were more interested in

Ethnic Minorities and Elder Employment Essay An ethnic minority is a group of people who differ in race or color or in national, religious, or cultural origin from the dominant group often the majority population of the country in which they live. The different identity of an ethnic minority may be displayed in any number of ways, ranging from distinctive customs, lifestyles, language or accent, dress, and food preferences to particular attitudes, moral values, and economic or political beliefs espoused by members of the group. Characteristically the minority is recognized, but it is not necessarily accepted by the larger society in which its members live. • 3. A Lot Of The Children Interviewed Within The First Chapter A lot of the children interviewed within the first chapter of Peter W. Singer s book Children at War are under the age of 12. They speak of torturing people in the most horrific of ways. Such as when joining the paramilitaries, A., age twelve, states that the first thing they make you do is kill someone. A random person is picked for the recruits to chop off his hands and arms. It is important to realize however, that not all of these child soldiers are as young as 7. Singer explains that a A child soldier is generally defined (under both international law and common practice) as any person under eighteen years of age who is engaged in deadly combat or combat support as part of an armed force or group. The example of John Cook is far different than the young boys involved in today s wars. Such as in Sierra Leone, the young boys that are soldiers were forced into fighting with rebel groups to cause terror. Much different from Cook, he was involved because he wanted to and he took actions into his own hands because of his bravery and patriotism. It is easy to see that child soldiers have been involved all around the world for centuries. Singer states by the twenty first century child soldiers had served in significant numbers on ever continent of the globe but Antarctica. • 4. American Exceptionalism Research Paper The topic of American Exceptionalism is a very contentious one. Over the past several years, news pundits have brought up the subject repeatedly and some on both the right and the left frequently use it as a litmus test for ideological purity. Generally speaking, there are two lines of thought that dominate the discussion of this topic. One line of thought holds that American Exceptionalism is very real and has had a profound impact on the United States. There are two related threads involved in this argument. First is the idea that because the United States was created as, what one might call, the first new nation, emerging out of an explosive revolutionary event that severed all connections between America and Europe. The barbershop is located in an area too small to be considered a strip mall and apparently too small to handle all of its customers vehicles. It is the third in a row of three shops, although the first, a former ice cream/water ice business, was for rent. I knew that all of the drivers of the automobiles in the lot were in the barbershop, as the repair shop next to it does not open until 9 A.M. Apparently all Saturday mornings here begin with such a full parking lot. Once I found a parking spot, I was ready to begin my observation of the U.S. Male Men s Hair ... When the razors stopped buzzing, the classic rock radio station seemed to blare through the quiet. Despite the open door, the air conditioner was moaning softly in the background. I took this opportunity to examine my surroundings. To the right of the opened front door was a gumball machine and a green leafy plant. The counter in front of the door seemed to have no immediate purpose, except to hold another leafy plant and some additional magazines that were strewn about it. Above the chairs where I was sitting was a mirror, which I presume is used by the nervous customer who wants to keep an eye on the way in which the barber cuts his hair. Another wall sectioned off an area from the four barbers stations, which I knew to be the owner s workspace. His station basically was set up as were the others, but he had more room in which to work. There was one sink on the opposite side of his wall for use in case a customer wanted a premium cut, which includes a shampoo and conditioning wash or a color treatment. In the corner, between the sink and the fourth barber s station, was the ATM, conveniently located next to the cash register. This is practical because the barbershop only accepts cash for payment. As the dictionary definition very clearly and correctly states, reasoning is certain thinking or a conclusion drawn from a logical fact. Hence, the reasoning of a certain thing, which is a conclusion drawn from an existing fact or the happening of an event, is trusted more than the conclusion which is drawn due the development of one s emotions. Consequently, when a person would say to another, You re being emotional , it is considered as a cynical comment while the statement, You re being logical is taken as praise. Therefore, it is obvious that logic and reasoning holds strengths which are stronger than those of emotions. In today s world, the younger generation is burdened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, one very big limitation of reason is that it does not account for any emotions which are involved in the scenario. In addition, another weakness of reason is that is does not people open their minds to newer prospects because the reason restricts their mind to think in only one way. For example, in the book Train to Pakistan , by Khushwant Singh, the police just arrest Juggut Singh, thinking that he was involved in the murder of Lala Ram Lal without any proof actual proof of what exactly happened, because Juggut Singh was a known badmash and that may have been a grave enough reason for the police to arrest him. This incident in the book shows that without knowing the culprit, the wrong person was arrested just because the person arrested had no other reputation except that of a scoundrel. Hence, this example shows that when there is a reason behind something, which in this case was Juggut Singh s poor reputation, it makes the other people, who are involved in the scene, less open minded. Furthermore, reasoning is only possible when the correct data and required knowledge are present. This is because reasoning is only based on the data which is provided, and cannot be based on data that has not been taken into account. For example, if an event occurs periodically, and one observes just one of the occurring and bases his/her reason on that, then it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by the brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic ducts drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the duodenum. The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and functions to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the duodenum the sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the common bile duct into the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates the bile by re absorbing water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that emulsify the fats in the chime. • 40. Piaget s Theory On Child Development Children are not simply small adults who are still growing; they learn differently and experience the world in a variation of ways that opposes adult reasoning. Piaget s theory on child development asserts that there are four stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Piaget also suggested that human thinking is arranged into schemes, organized mental patterns that represent behaviors and actions (Feldman, 2015, p. 17). These schemes are the building blocks of knowledge and experience growth through two basic principles: assimilation and accommodation (Feldman, 2015). Assimilation refers to the process in which people understand new ideas in relation to their own way of thinking and adapt, where as accommodation refers to changes in the way of thinking caused by new stimuli. Natural observation of children can lend an insight into Piaget s stages of development, which is the method chosen for this study. For this observation two children were selected, one male and one female. Subject A is a Caucasian male, approximately 3 years of age, who has middle class parents, and a stay at home mom; Subject B child is a Caucasian female, also approximately 3 years of age, has middle class parents, and a mother who works part time. All of the big stocks were paying off handsomely, the little ones too. However, as much as analysis tried to tell the people that this period of great wealth would last, no one could imagine what would come of the United States economy in the next decade. The reasons for this catastrophic event in American 20th century history are numerous, and in his book, The Great Crash, John Kenneth Galbraith covers the period and events which lead up to the downward spiral in the fall of 1929 and the people behind the scenes on Wall Street who helped this fire spread. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As explained in the book, holding companies controlled large proportions of such facets of the economy as railroads, utilities and the entertainment businesses. This brought on the constant danger of devastation by reverse leverage. This meant that money made by these operations was used to pay interest on the bonds of the holding companies. Thus, when there was a break in the money coming in, companies could not make payments and were forced into bankruptcy, which trickled down the ladder. The third reason given was the bad banking structure which was in place in the 20 s and into the 30 s. Banks at this time were run individually, thus, when a bank failed or went belly up because of aggregate deposits, it started a domino effect. In 1929 alone, 346 banks closed their doors, leaving people out in the cold, with no money, money which they had trusted in the hands of these banks. This of course left the people with a bad taste in their mouths, and caused them to stop putting money in banks, relying instead on the bottom side of their mattresses. The bad running of banks ties into corruption also. The men who ran banks, men like Charles E. Mitchell, were more interested in keeping the stock market boom going rather then the health of the banks which they ran. These men kept interest rates low and gave bad loans to people who mostly had no hope of ever paying back. The fourth reason stated was the dubious state of the foreign balance.
