Comparison Of Bringing Up Baby And Annie Hall
The film Bringing Up Baby (1938) and the film Annie Hall (1977), respectively directed by Howard
Hawks and Woody Allen, both hold a significant impact on the history of the screwball comedy genre.
The screwball comedy is a principally American genre of comedy that became popular during the
Great Depression, originating in the early 1930s and thriving until the early 1940s. Bringing Up Baby,
directed by Howard Hawks, is considered as the greatest screwball comedy and is often considered the
state of the art screwball film. On the other hand, Annie Hall is a screwball that targets a very small
population because it requires prior knowledge in order to understand the jokes. Symons (2013)
expresses the idea that Annie Hall is considered a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On technique that he utilizes amazingly gave the audience the feel of being with the character. This
technique is called a tracking shot. Tracking shots, according to Hayward (2013), are cameras that
follow a person or an object by physically moving with the subject. There is one scene is the movie
where he uses this technique, and the audience feels that they are in the scene with the characters. It is
when David Huxley is meeting with Mr. Alexander Peabody to talk about the opportunity of having
one million dollars donated to his museum, The Stuyvesant Museum of Natural History, where he is
working on completing a skeletal reproduction of a brontosaurus. In this scene, he utilizes the long
shot of the four men after they have stopped walking, combined it with the tracking shot itself, and
comprises the master shot, which is also mandated by the classical style (Bordwell, Staiger,
Thompson, 1985). Since the tracking of the camera did indeed continue on for a few feet after the men
had stopped, Hawks helps to establish a better use of space within the frame. By lengthening the shot
from a long shot to a longer shot, the audiences not only gets to see the men and the golf course, the
audience can now get a better sense of where they are situated on the course itself as well. Hawks use
a tracking shot to develop a connection between the audience and the characters in the

Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games
Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable
entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have
chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the
Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character
identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival.
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each
District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back
out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the
reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between
the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their
victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to
volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute,
Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the
game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their
likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to
winning.

SCOPE
This document summarizes the Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) and Environmental
Impact Assessments (EIAs), within the Canadian oil and gas industry, on both the Federal and Ontario
Provincial levels. It factors in the necessary transportation, processes and infrastructure that will be be
required for the implementation of the proposed investment.

I. Strategic Environmental Assessment
The aim of an SEA is to ensure that all aspects of the proposed investment (i.e. the transport and
refinement processes), in terms of the policy and planning, have taken into consideration the
environment and possible sources of sustainability. This must be done on both a provincial, Ontario,
and a national level.
i.Transportation
The transportation of oil and gas from Western Canada to the German receiver port will require
Federal Rail regulation, as well as Ontario Rail regulations. These Rail regulations cover the portion
of the transportation from Western Canada to the Great Lakes. Regulations

Should the Internet Replace the Book As the Chief Tool of...
At present, the Internet and other technology are well developed and keep improving. People use those
new tools to do everything, and try hard to make human life easier and more perfect. From business to
finances; industry to entertainment; services to education, the use of the Internet has increased and
become more mainstream. Some people believe that the Internet and other electronic technology can
replace all kind of jobs that humans do, including teaching students with screens and keyboards
instead of books. They emphasize that the Internet can help people interact to each other beyond the
barrier of distance, so books are somehow not necessary in human lives. However, in my opinion, this
idea cannot be more ridiculous. Books are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . . all it needs is light, a human eye, and a human mind (2008, ¶ 2). On the other hand, generally
speaking, the publishing process for the book is more stringent and credible than online resources. As
people realize the fact that the Internet is so open and free that everyone can write anything on the
web, a great amount of misleading information have been circulated for perusal around the network. It
is a great challenge to distinguish which of them is true or credible; however, information from books
is basically, generally believable. One of the reasons for this is that people can easily find out who the
author and publisher are of a book. In contrast, an article from a web page may have trouble to prove
its credibility. In short, the Internet cannot always provide valuable message and information that
respects to intellectual property rights. Therefore, people should keep using book as the chief tool of
learning. Another important reason why the Internet and other technology should not replace the book
is that the use of the Internet and other technology may be a travers of developing social skills. It has
been confirmed by sociologists and anthropologists that the face to face communication between
people is too important to be ignored in the society. To be honest, it is

Race Reflection Paper
The color line was used in reference of segregation that existed after slavery ended. Many would say
that Du Bois view on race still exists in today s generation. I personally believe that race plays a major
role in our daily lives. Over the past few years we have seen so many different actions that have taken
place regarding race. In 1866, it was stated that the Jim Crow laws were declared unconstitutional, but
in 2017 African Americans feel as if they still face the Jim Crow laws in different situations. Blacks
continue to be treated differently, especially within the criminal justice system.
Social inequality due to race is very real and it has a big affect on African Americans. The way that
Blacks in society perceive each other, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was said to me all throughout my college career how important it is to be a Black. As a Criminal
Justice major with a minor in Sociology at Clark Atlanta University, the work and determination of
W.E. B Dubois was installed in me and pushed me to strive and understand my culture more than ever
before. W.E.B Dubois contributions to sociological theory such as civil rights, education and
economic opportunities for people of color are strongly talked about at Clark Atlanta University.
History is clearly repeating itself dealing with the way African Americans are perceived and treated.
Even though there are several African Americans who know their worth, it can sometimes be hard to
face challenges, such as inequality issues due to race in 2017. After hearing so many stories about our
ancestors who fought for equality rights, who would ever thought that minorities would be still
fighting in today s generation all over again. In the 2016 2017 Presidential Election candidate now
newly elected President Donald Trump states, In the old days, protesters would be carried out on
stretchers. Hearing a person say something such as this, especially candidate who was running for
president of the United States is very shocking and distasteful. In my opinion, I believe that the
remarks Donald Trump, has really shown that the state of the American people has really changed in
the last century and that we are still dealing with the same problems of racism

Reflection Paper
The Recent Engagement of Contemporary Islamic Thought with Modernity in the West
Modernization theory has been one of the master theoretical narratives to understand the major
institutional and cultural transformation from traditional societies to modern ones. It was developed by
the founders of sociology and has dominated the widespread understanding and explanations of many
social differentiation processes including rationalization, individualization, urbanization, and
secularization for several decades. Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization
were unavoidable route and common destinations and patters for modern or all ... Show more content

They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the
light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global
modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural
modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of
modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side
understanding of western modernity.
In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained
visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the
western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the
same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence
of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges
(premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of
modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity)
in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach
than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to

Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter
Lauren Thomas
Professor Saunders
ENGL 231
October 23rd, 2014
The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s
Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal and
external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice Rappaccini.
Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also highlight the theme of
love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or
not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These
elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle
it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni
moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini
underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and
blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that
she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a
creature is near her breath, it dies. Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a
wise decision. Her horror keeps him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer.
The second conflict that

Energy Resources And Nonrenewable Resources
Despite only being around for around two hundred thousand years, humanity has accomplished many
great tasks. Humans have been able to conquer most of the land on Earth. They have been able to find
ways to travel across huge landscapes in a matter of hours. They have developed ways to grow and
harvest their own food through agriculture. Humans even were able to send people into space. Despite
these accomplishments, they have all come at a great cost. Humans had to deforest many areas in
order to be able to live in those places. Almost all of the modern transportation relies on the
nonrenewable resource that is fossil fuels. As the population has grown, bigger farms were made that
consume loads of water. Due to these costs, the greatest threat to human sustainability is our reliance
on nonrenewable energy and resources. In order to shift from this path, humanity must continue to
move away from nonrenewable energy and develop renewable energy, and convince businesses that
this path is profitable. In the current system, the greatest threat to the survival of humanity is the over
reliance on nonrenewable energy resources. What generally comes to mind with nonrenewable
resources is fossil fuels, however trees and water can also be applied in this situation. When the topic
is about deforestation, some would argue that trees can grow back making them a renewable resource.
However, at the rate people are cutting them, the trees do not have enough time to grow back.

The Modern Culture Of Chippewa Today
Though Native Americans are today seen as regular members of society and treated as such, and even
are given certain special treatments (such as federally recognized tribes being seen as domestic
dependant nations and allowing for them to have their own set of laws), there can be no argument
when it is said that, in the past, they were treated terribly. In fact, when European settlers came, their
clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide. The Chippewa lived mainly in the American midwest
(including Michigan) and in Ontario, a Canadian province. I use the term lived here because, despite
the Chippewa being alive and well, they are more spread out now due to the advantages of modern
technology. The modern culture of Chippewa today is vastly different from original Chippewa, as well
(Friedl, pgs 814 815). Food for them could range from rabbit or deer or even bears (Copway, George,
Hulan, Shelley, pgs 26 and 28) to corn and wild rice (Friedl, pg 816). According to Friedl s data,
Chippewas generally expect their circumstances to be constantly changing. For example, indigenous
Chippewas left a lot of things to chance. As stated previously, they planted corn, but they did not tend
to it (Friedl, pg 816). They collected wild rice when it was available, as well as nuts and berries when
they were in season. They also heavily relied on dreams to lead them in the right direction (Friedl,
816). If they dreamed they would prosper elsewhere, they would leave. If they dreamed of

Holocaust Survivor, Elie Wiesel s Strategies in The Perils...
Elie Wiesel a Holocaust survivor and award winning human rights activist passionately gave his
speech, The Perils of Indifference, while in the White House on April 12, 1999. The speech was part
of the Millennium Lecture series, which was hosted by President Bill Clinton and his wife. Mrs.
Hilary Clinton introduced Elie as well, saying: It was more than a year ago that I asked Elie if he
would be willing to participate in these Millennium Lectures...I never could have imagined that when
the time finally came for him to stand in this spot and to reflect on the past century and the future to
come, that we would be seeing children in Kosovo crowded into trains, separated from families,
separated from their homes, robbed of their childhoods, their memories, their humanity. Indeed, the
events in Kosovo created an effective environment that Wiesel could use to tell the audience about
some of his experiences during the Holocaust and to communicate why humanity must fight against
the evil of indifference. Wiesel knows about that evil firsthand. How could he not with his experiences
in the Holocaust? This experience is a large factor in his relationship with the issue, and he references
it subtly several times, as he frequently uses the words we and us when talking about those who have
experienced the worst effects of indifference. The reason he felt such a need to communicate why
humanity should despise indifference is, in fact, because it so directly affected him. The

President Islam Karimov Left His Country
Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov left his country as he ruled it: plagued by inconsistencies in
news reports, government cover ups, and incorrigible deceit. While Karimov reportedly died on
September 2nd at the age of 78 due to a brain hemorrhage, he likely passed away well before his
government s official announcement. The full extent of Karimov s critical condition was not revealed
to the media until his daughter, Lola Karimova Tillyaeva, announced it on her Instagram profile. Then,
after days of speculation, the Uzbek government finally confirmed that Karimov had passed away.
Following a few hours of leadership contention, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the chairman of the upper
house of Parliament and next in the line of presidential succession, stepped aside to allow long time
Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev to become the interim leader.
The government s postponement of broadcasting Karimov s death may raise eyebrows, but rather it
sheds light on the fears of the regime. Considering that in its 25 years of existence, Uzbekistan has
never held democratic elections and that nearly half of the country s 32 million citizens have only
lived under Karimov, such a delay in announcing the Uzbekistani leader s death signifies that the
regime is concerned about maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately for its citizens, its neighbors in
Central Asia, and leaders around the world, Uzbekistan s status quo is malicious, progressively inert
and undeniably criminal. Though it has been

How To Improve Uk Voting System
I believe that we need to make major adjustments to UK elections for them to be fairer. This must
include changes to our voting system which is First Past The Post, a system where electors vote for
their first choice candidate and those with the most votes win the election in that constituency. I think
this because the current voting system isn t fair, in the 2015 elections the Conservatives won but just
because they got more seats than any party needed to win they didn t get 50% of the vote BBC
news*1 stated that they only got 36.9% which means to me they shouldn t have actually won. Also
with FPTP many votes are wasted because people disagree with the system and don t think there s any
purpose in voting. I think that an alternative voting system would be a much fairer way to choose who
is elected. From a school worksheet it stated that in 2005 66% of all MP s elected did not get over
50% no party has won a majority since 1935 *2. An alternative voting system is where the system asks
voters to rank candidates in order of preference. People can nominate as many preferences as they
like. Only first preference votes are counted. Anyone getting more than 50% of these votes is elected
automatically of the votes in their constituency. This should be our new voting system because it gives
people a chance to vote for who they actually want and may make them become more encouraged to
vote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also people may not be well educated in elections and don t feel comfortable in voting. Another
reason why people may not vote is because they do not like any of the parties and what they pledge
for so decide that they might as well not vote. However, in countries such as Brazil non voters may be
barred from receiving wages or taking professional exams. To me I think this is determination for
Brazil for them wanting to have a good

The Chinese Room Argument
While proponents of strong AI believe that machines are capable of imitating human consciousness so
well that it might be perceived as actually obtaining consciousness, others such as John Searle believe
otherwise. Another logical stance on the question is accepting that machines are able to behave as
though it has a conscious mind physically, but also arguing that machines will never be able to possess
this consciousness as though a human would. This second type of viewpoint is considered Weak
Artificial Intelligence, otherwise known as narrow artificial intelligence. Weak AI is acknowledging
that machines can simulate consciousness computationally, but that is different from actually
obtaining consciousness.
One of the most widely known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Searle believed that simply manipulating symbols will not ensure computers are able to think or
understand, in other words, knowing syntax does not mean understanding the semantics, and function
does not mean understanding.
There are of course many criticisms of Searle s Chinese Room Argument, the main ones include the
Systems Reply, the Robot Reply, the Brain Simulator Reply, the Other Minds Reply, and the Intuition
Reply.
In Searle s Chinese Room Argument, the person inside the room is defined as not able to understand
Chinese. But in response to that, the Systems Reply brings up the point that while the person might
not know any Chinese, the system as a whole understands Chinese. The Virtual Mind Reply is similar
to the Systems Reply in that the person inside the room might not understand Chinese by him or
herself. But Virtual Mind Reply questions whether understanding is created or not. While the person
in the room might not have any knowledge of Chinese at the beginning, running the system might
create an agent that does have understanding of Chinese. The Robot Reply, while accepting that the
person in the room might not understand Chinese or the computer in the room does not understand a
particular language, suggests that giving a computer a body would mean something different for the
computer. Being able to interact with the environment using sensors might enable the computer to
learn. The Brain Simulator Reply suggests to consider the program being

My Own Creative Process And Transformative Experiences...
This paper intends to describe the application of my own creative process and transformative
experiences during the stages of work from creation to completion of an original body of sculptural
artwork. Secondarily, providing analysis and interpretation of the relationship to the theories of
creativity that have been studied throughout this course. I will be using the concept of self awareness
found in Maslow s hierarchy of needs (Runco, 2014) and the concept of self observation as a form of
measurement and as the primary research method. The result of this concentration aims to demonstrate
the generation and connection of new knowledge that deepened my understanding of creativity in the
context of the person, process, place, and product.
There are many definitions, from many people of what creativity is and what it is not. It only seems
logical to start with my own definition for a sequential frame of reference. I believe that creativity is
having vision and exercising cognitive processes that when combined with personality traits,
influential experiences, environments, and learned skillsets generate original ideas by an individual.
That is a synthesis of three of the five creativity research paradigms: person, process, and place,
summarized in Creativity: Theories and Themes: Research, Development, and Practice. (Runco et.al,
2014) This is my vision. Before starting this course, I had been thinking about the possibility of
creating sculptures that intertwine art with

Persuasive Essay On End Forced Marriages
End Forced Marriages
Today, two out of three women forced into a marriage suffer from physical and/or emotional abuse.
While most people have the chance to find true love, these women are left threatened and in danger.
The choice of whom to marry should be left to determine on one s own. Marriages should not be
arranged for reasons of money, religion, or reputation because physical and mental abuse are common,
the freedom that people are granted is limited by denying the pursuit of happiness, and love is better
developed in a consensual marriage rather than a forced one which leads to greater satisfaction.

If there is no love found, the couple is left in an unworthy relationship. In arranged marriages, the
couples are not able to understand each other very well before the marriage and also not aware of the
likes and dislikes of one other. In love marriage, the couples get to know each other ahead of the
commitment. When speaking of love, love has to be developed in an arranged marriage, as they will
only know each other better after the wedding. In a love marriage, the couples have been together long
enough to get to know each other before the marriage, so they have always been in love, and there is
no need to develop it. Another problem in forced marriages, is that men are always more dominant
than the women. No one seems to be dominant person over the other in a love marriage. This is
another reason that women are more likely to be abused in an involuntary marriage. According to a
New Delhi psychotherapist, abuse is found more in arranged marriages rather than love marriages.
Considering these factors, it is evident that love marriages cause greater serenity over the troubles that

lot of profits if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping
ethnic characters.
Base 1: Unity
1. Is there a clearly stated thesis in the introductory paragraph? Yes, you mentioned a clear thesis
statement at the end of the first paragraph, Hollywood writers and directors should have a social
responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters because it can help audience aware of the true
nature of ethnic groups, create more opportunity for foreign actors, and increase the profits for
Hollywood.

I knew more about benefits as well as positives for Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors

could enjoy a new whiff of the wind in your essay.
Base 2: Support
1. Is there specific evidence? Yes, there was specific evidence that supported to giving benefits for
Hollywood.
2. Is there plenty of it? Yes, the evidence was very clear and helped the readers know the benefits of
Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes.
My comments: I liked your sentence that you wrote in the third paragraph, Hollywood directors do not
give lead roles for Asian actors because they are fearing that Americans do not accept an Asian face on
the silver screen, not because there are not many talented Asian or their wage levels are too high
which is basically due to the fact that existed for more than half a century. Hollywood directors had
discrimination about color actors and did not acknowledge their talent for a long time, so it leads to
stereotyping ethnic characters.

Nearly Forty eight men came with us to discover this new land, that has made America twice the size
that it was originally. We started our journey upstream from the Missouri River, where we all came

A Short Note On Opioid Control And Opioid Controlled Drug
Diamorphine is used for pain control and known as an opioid Controlled Drug [CD], acting by
blocking pain signals to the brain (BNF, 2015; NICE, 2016). Opioid medication is licenced for the
management of moderate to severe pain however, long term use can cause reliance of the drug yet
when used to treat a terminal illness, there are no restrictions (Knott, 2013; Nice, 2016). Morphine s
most common side effects include nausea and vomiting, sedation, constipation, hypotension and
sweating however, it can cause hallucinations which are important in the management of anxiety in
palliative care (Everyday Health, 2016; Mann Carr, 2009). Diamorphine causes less nausea and
hypotension than morphine and the focus in palliative care is pain management which is more
effective when avoiding pain, than in the relief of pain (Cancer Research UK, 2015).
Levomepromazine is Prescription Only Medication [POM] usually known as an antipsychotic drug
{tranquillizer} however, it can also be used as an antiemetic drug to control nausea and vomiting
(BNF, 2015; NHS Scotland, 2014). There are many antiemetic drugs used to treat nausea and vomiting
however, some work on the brain by stopping the stimulation of the vomiting centre, whilst others
work on the gut emptying the stomach contents at a faster rate (Macmillan Cancer Support, 2013). An
antiemetic drug is chosen according to the causes of the vomiting and in Jacobs s case it is a known
side effect of taking Diamorphine. The most common side

Government Regulation of the Microsoft Corporation
Does the government have the right to regulate large corporations, namely the Microsoft Corporation?
If so, then to what extent can the government do so? Based on our research, it is the government s
responsibility to remedy Microsoft s noncompetitive behavior in order to increase fair competition.
The Microsoft vs. the Government trial has many possible outcomes, which may affect a specific
party. Not only does the outcome affect the Microsoft Corporation, but it also affects the rival
companies and the consumer. Though not as eminent, the outcomes may also affect the future
decisions against any other companies, possibly committing the same violations as Microsoft.

The barrier of entry would prevent an aspiring entrant into the relevant market from drawing a

United States Government Expansion Essay
In the last century and a half, the United States Government has grown significantly in size, scope,
and influence. There are many contributing factors to this expansion. The quest for civil rights,
presidential programs and how those programs affected domestic policy, and the foreign policies that
were a result of imperialism, nationalism, and the many conflicts that the nation became involved in
were the biggest catalysts attributing to this progressive development in the government. These effects
have shaped the government from the vision of the Founding Fathers into what it is today. The
expansion of the government s power, particularly the Executive Branch, has its roots in
Progressivism. Based on the ideas of philosophers like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
US protection from Asian countries and the need for a Pacific base were the reasons for getting
Hawaii. Both of these acquisitions would become a huge part of foreign policy and the need for an
expanded government in the coming years. As imperialism extended the country s power and
influence through diplomacy and military might, the policy of non intervention would quickly become
outdated. Due to Britain and France running out of men, money, and material, the US had to get
involved in World War I. This involvement brought about numerous new policies and activities by the
government. The War Industries Board, Food Administration, Railway Board, and the US Shipping
Board came to be. Railroads were nationalized and two new laws, the Espionage Act of 1917 and the
Sedition Act of 1918, were put into effect as a result of US involvement in the war. Hawaii would
become a key part of World War II with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. One of the Cold War battlefields
was Alaska. Due to the Truman Doctrine and its policy of containing communism, the US gor

major component of the expansion of the size, scope, and influence of the US government. Roosevelt
s Square Deal caused the government to grow because he wanted the government to regulate business

Multiple system failures contributed to the death of baby Miguel. One system failure responsible was
due to insufficient drug information. The insufficiency was due of the facility allowing a pharmacist to
prepare pediatric medications for a diagnosis that he or she lacked knowledge. Even though the
pharmacist did reach out for assistance, they still lacked the knowledge to recognize the error at hand.

Additionally, the facility should have a system in place that alerts the staff regarding high dosages.
One way to alert the pharmacist would be via a computerized system that monitors the dispensing of
all medications. The system should contain an up to date database for referencing medications. Also,
the computerized system should have parameters set for alerting pharmacy and nursing staff for all
high dosages. When taking cost into consideration, the facility might not have the feasibility to
implement an entire computerized dispensing system that provides dosage alerts and cross check off
of medications. To maintain patient safety with limited funds, the facility should have remote access to
a pediatric pharmacy where all pediatric medications can be cross checked and verified. If the facility
was unable to have a pediatric pharmacist on staff, the remote access would provide a safety net for
pediatric medication dispensing. In addition to the pharmacy staff having access to a computerized
system, the physician should as well. Had the physician had computer access and been required to
enter medication orders, the tenfold error could have been noted and not reached baby Miguel.

Sources of Pollution and Their Effect
Air pollution used to be a natural occurrence that had no major effects on the Earth s inhabitants. Such
instances were caused by forest fires, emission from the Earth, and volcanoes. It was not until humans
discovered how to start and control fire that we started over polluting the planet. For many years cities
have struggled through thick smog due to dense smoke emissions. Officials, like in Los Angeles, have
tried to adopt multiple measures to combat the smog but the city, and the rest of the world, continued
to boom in industry. Thus, overwhelming the air pollution reforms the city tried to enforce. However,
it was not until about seventy one years ago during the height of World War Two, when the dire
consequences of air pollution began to dramatically increase. Instead of a foreign enemy attacking the
city of Los Angeles, it was a domestic one, smog. On July 26, 1943 downtown Los Angeles was
covered in smoke and fumes. The smog was extreme to the extent that it cut off visibility of three
blocks. This spontaneous gas attack came about in the middle of a heat wave. For the citizens it was
unbearable. They suffered from throat scraping and eye stinging sensations. The people soon realized
that something must have gone wrong.. The day after the incident, the city officials blamed the
Southern California Gas Co. s Aliso Street plant for the catastrophe. In order to stop the smog, the
angry public had the plant shut down temporarily. Yet they were unpleasantly surprised to

Cultural Changes In Rear Window
As our culture changes so do the films we see. If we look at films and their remakes decades later, it is
easy to see the changes in our culture. Between the time of the film Rear Window was released in
1954, under direction of Alfred Hitchcock, and the 2007 film Disturbia, directed by D.J. Caruso, our
country has experienced many cultural changes over those 53 years we have seen an increase in
violence, huge advancement in technology, and the increased use of sexuality, because of the media
coverage of the Vietnam War, the inventing of the microchip and computer, and the end of the Hays
Code in 1968. In Rear Window and Disturbia, both Jeff, played by James Stewart in Rear Window and
Kale, played by Shia Lebeouf in Disturbia have been forced to remain indoors, and because of
extreme boredom they have taken to spying on their neighbors to pass the time. While observing their
neighbors they see something strange from one of the men in their neighborhood. Kale and Jeff
become convinced that their neighbor is a killer, played by David Morse in Disturbia and Raymond
Burr in Rear Window. They also convince their friends of this. They end up trying to find a way to
obtain evidence to use against the suspected killer. They become obsessed with trying to catch the

David Foster Wallace Water Speech Summary
In the opening of David Foster Wallace s speech, he talks about two young fish swimming past an
older adult fish who is swimming in the opposite direction. The older fish asked them a question about
the water, and yet they had no idea what water is. Wallace made an interesting point with this story by
emphasizing that what is right in front of us we tend not to be conscious of it. Wallace painted a
picture for the audience about two men in a bar arguing about religion. The significance to this story is
that one person can interrupt the same experience or situation differently. Both of the men are too self
centered to take into consideration of one another s beliefs. They are closed minded to their own
beliefs. Another good point that Wallace

City Expansion In Medieval Europe
An inhabited bridge is defined according to Jean Dethier in Inhabited Bridges, past, present and
future, An interview with Jean Dethier , in Living Bridges (1996) as follows: Definition of Inhabited
Bridges: An inhabited Bridge in addition to its primary function of surmounting natural or man made
obstacles, be they rivers or canals, railways or motorways serves as an organic link between two urban
areas by connecting them to each other with a development of buildings erected on the bridge deck to
form permanent accommodation for various social and economic activities. Thus, every inhabited
bridge consists of two elements: the platform that spans the obstacle and an architectural
superstructure. In contrasts to a purely vehicular bridge, the inhabited bridge provides a continuity
within the urban fabric that is not only social and economic but also cultural, emotional and symbolic
at a point where a natural break would otherwise exist. Indeed, it is both seductive and functional.
Inhabited bridges are believed to have emerged as a spontaneous occupation of bridges in response to
a growing demand of building land in cities and towns which were limited by defensive walls in
Medieval Europe. Geographically, it seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand this, we will explain the process of city expansion in Medieval Europe: cities and towns
in medieval Europe were often located alongside riverbanks since water was a main part of life. They
were also surrounded by walls as a means of defense, limiting by consequence the building land. As
the city grew, so did the demand for land. When the pressure became unbearable, the city would create
new defensive walls to englobe the new peripheric buildings. One of the most compelling evidence is
Paris: the city saw its walls expand six times between the fourth and 1919, year in which the last wall,

Negative Effects On Oil Spills
Oil spills wreak havoc on many different factors of the world. They can negatively impact the
environment, specifically marine life, and economic industries, as well. Most oil spills occur when a
large amount of oil is released due to accidents of vehicles or machinery. Although it can occur
anywhere, it s most visible in oceans or bodies of water. Spills can be because of human error or
accident, natural disasters, or faulty equipment. Additional problems arise because spills take a
significant amount of time to clean. The oil spreads across the body of water and floats on the surface,
preventing sunlight from passing. This can cause substantial damage and harm to the animal and plant
life. Spills also cover wildlife in oil, which can expose animals to dangerous elements, and destroy the
insulating ability of fur mammals and the water repelling ability of birds. Oil contains poisonous
chemicals, and when animals ingest or inhale this oil, they are often infected or killed. They also
pollute bodies of water and contaminate human water resources. Toxic substances in the oil cause
extensive damage to the ecosystem and food chains. They also have a significant influence on the
economic industries. Oil spills mean that there s less gas and petroleum available for public use. There
s always the cost of cleaning the spill, which may require outside or expensive assistance. The tourism
industry also takes a hit, especially in usually popular areas, such as Florida beaches. The once
beautiful attractions become ugly and gross, covered in dead animals and tarballs balls of oil. This
prevents recreational activities such as parasailing, swimming, rafting, etc. This thereby ruins the
businesses that run the activities and the tourism industries, hurting the economic status of the state or
country. However, there are many solutions, including preventative, preparedness, and cleanup
methods. Preventative methods start at the initial building of the equipment that will later produce,
hold, and transport oil. Proper training on how to conduct oil procedures should also be enforced for
the employees who will later have to handle oil. These measures decrease the likelihood of an oil spill
happening later. Preparedness

Female And Female Gender Roles
Literature throughout history has displayed to us the evolution of the male and female gender roles in
society. Women have been described as the angel in the house, whilst men are typified as dominant
and prevailing in comparison to women. The gothic genre in literature is used to personify and
exaggerate these stereotypes, by using gothic motifs such as dream sequences and themes such as
horror and terror. Not only does the gothic exaggerate the stereotypes, but it also allows them to be
contravened, due to the transgressive nature of the genre. The psychoanalytical aspect of this genre,
allows for repressed desires to be made eminent and therefore characters can transgress and in the
process, cross their contemporary gender boundaries. Keats uses the gothic device of Negative
capability in order to conceal the transgression of the females in his poetry, Carter revised gothic
fairytales in order to display them from a feminist approach and Stoker uses gothic themes, set against
the backdrop of the fluidity of Fin de siècle period, to allow characters to stray from their gender
stereotypes.
Victorian women were supposed to be both selflessly devoted, to their children and submissive, to
their husbands, according to Coventry Patmore. However due to the trepidation of sexual mayhem that
arose during the nineteenth century, society retaliated by recoiling from the idea of a woman having
any sexual emancipation. This response was typical of the Fin de Siècle period and

Economic Success
Saudi Arabia was a poor country until oil was discovered beneath the eastern deserts in the late 1930 s.
The country suddenly found itself very wealthy as it became an important exporter of oil in just a few
years. The price of the oil increased very dramatically from just $3 a barrel to over $40 a barrel. This
economic success ensured that the leaders became very wealthy. The GNP per capita is economically
sound. However, this figure is misleading. A large proportion of GNP is channeled towards the leaders
while a disproportionate sum is filtered to the citizens. A large amount of construction was initiated
using the revenues earned. However, most of the workforce consisted of cheap foreign labour while
the Saudi Arabian citizens suffer an enormous 25% unemployment rate compared to the United States
5% unemployment. This economic success dropped somewhat as oil prices dropped tremendously in
1998 1999. Large amounts of construction work were

The Element Of Criminal Liability
Introduction
Crime can be defined as an action or omission that can is constituted as an offence, going against the
values of society and is an act which is punishable by law with either a fine, imprisonment or
whatever punishment fits the nature of the crime. In this report there will be a discussion on the two
element on criminal liability which are as followed Mens Rea (guilty mind) and Actus Reus (guilty
act). Different components constitute these elements and are used to make up a crime. However there
have been cases were the use of mens rea has very minimal effect and actus reus is the only element
proven in the offence. For example; Rape even though it is considered a serious offence, there have
been incidents were lack of consent was applicable to the crime as the person may have been induced
to object to force, fear or fraud and the accused would have mentally believed that the victim had
consent hence lacking the mens rea element and continuing the sexual penetration which is the actus
reus component of the offence. This report will also cover the defences to mens rea (intoxication,
mental impairment and infancy and also defences to actus reus (self defence, consent, execution of the
law and misadventure/ mere accident) as well as strict liability in reference to the elements required
for a crime and a table identifying offence/s present in the given scenario.

Identify and discuss various representations of woman in Wuthering Heights
The depictions of women in Wuthering Heights reveal that despair and happiness are direct outcomes
of one s decision to either be submissive to or oppose patriarchal constructs respectively. Catherine
and Cathy II are portrayed as examples of both how giving power to patriarchal demands leads to
misery and pain in contrast to how resisting patriarchal demands will lead to hope and joy. Firstly, the
underlying theme of freedom illuminates how the women are influenced to make such critical
decisions regarding their respective futures. Secondly, the concept of upbringing illustrates how

Catherine views freedom as something unsafe and untameable and following patriarchy as safe and
more suitable despite it also constraining her natural ambitions (Garofalo, 2008: 831). Her choice
reflects the idea that freedom is undesirable as it dangerously goes beyond social norms and putts her
at odds with society (Hanlon, 1996: 506). Giving power to patriarchal demands results in negative
outcomes for Catherine s character continued conflict with other characters, depression, sickness, in
the end, untimely death. Cathy II, who in her childhood had the idea of freedom kept away from her,
constantly attempts to resist patriarchal constructs in order to achieve being free. Cathy II is
represented as a tough, strong willed female who opposes what others expect for her, in the way she
often uses the word defy (REFERENCE), the way she aims to draw pleasure from the grief of her
enemies (REFERENCE) and how she challenges Heathcliff to be physically violent towards her
(REFERENCE). A feminist perspective of the novel notes how Cathy II empowers both herself and
the female gender in the way she attempts to escape Wuthering Heights and make her own,
independent decisions (Hoeveler, 2000: 212 214). Cathy II s view of freedom is that it s a treasure that

  • 2. Comparison Of Bringing Up Baby And Annie Hall The film Bringing Up Baby (1938) and the film Annie Hall (1977), respectively directed by Howard Hawks and Woody Allen, both hold a significant impact on the history of the screwball comedy genre. The screwball comedy is a principally American genre of comedy that became popular during the Great Depression, originating in the early 1930s and thriving until the early 1940s. Bringing Up Baby, directed by Howard Hawks, is considered as the greatest screwball comedy and is often considered the state of the art screwball film. On the other hand, Annie Hall is a screwball that targets a very small population because it requires prior knowledge in order to understand the jokes. Symons (2013) expresses the idea that Annie Hall is considered a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On technique that he utilizes amazingly gave the audience the feel of being with the character. This technique is called a tracking shot. Tracking shots, according to Hayward (2013), are cameras that follow a person or an object by physically moving with the subject. There is one scene is the movie where he uses this technique, and the audience feels that they are in the scene with the characters. It is when David Huxley is meeting with Mr. Alexander Peabody to talk about the opportunity of having one million dollars donated to his museum, The Stuyvesant Museum of Natural History, where he is working on completing a skeletal reproduction of a brontosaurus. In this scene, he utilizes the long shot of the four men after they have stopped walking, combined it with the tracking shot itself, and comprises the master shot, which is also mandated by the classical style (Bordwell, Staiger, Thompson, 1985). Since the tracking of the camera did indeed continue on for a few feet after the men had stopped, Hawks helps to establish a better use of space within the frame. By lengthening the shot from a long shot to a longer shot, the audiences not only gets to see the men and the golf course, the audience can now get a better sense of where they are situated on the course itself as well. Hawks use a tracking shot to develop a connection between the audience and the characters in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival. In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to winning. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Should the Internet Replace the Book As the Chief Tool of... At present, the Internet and other technology are well developed and keep improving. People use those new tools to do everything, and try hard to make human life easier and more perfect. From business to finances; industry to entertainment; services to education, the use of the Internet has increased and become more mainstream. Some people believe that the Internet and other electronic technology can replace all kind of jobs that humans do, including teaching students with screens and keyboards instead of books. They emphasize that the Internet can help people interact to each other beyond the barrier of distance, so books are somehow not necessary in human lives. However, in my opinion, this idea cannot be more ridiculous. Books are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . . all it needs is light, a human eye, and a human mind (2008, ¶ 2). On the other hand, generally speaking, the publishing process for the book is more stringent and credible than online resources. As people realize the fact that the Internet is so open and free that everyone can write anything on the web, a great amount of misleading information have been circulated for perusal around the network. It is a great challenge to distinguish which of them is true or credible; however, information from books is basically, generally believable. One of the reasons for this is that people can easily find out who the author and publisher are of a book. In contrast, an article from a web page may have trouble to prove its credibility. In short, the Internet cannot always provide valuable message and information that respects to intellectual property rights. Therefore, people should keep using book as the chief tool of learning. Another important reason why the Internet and other technology should not replace the book is that the use of the Internet and other technology may be a travers of developing social skills. It has been confirmed by sociologists and anthropologists that the face to face communication between people is too important to be ignored in the society. To be honest, it is ... I personally believe that race plays a major role in our daily lives. Over the past few years we have seen so many different actions that have taken place regarding race. In 1866, it was stated that the Jim Crow laws were declared unconstitutional, but in 2017 African Americans feel as if they still face the Jim Crow laws in different situations. Blacks continue to be treated differently, especially within the criminal justice system. Social inequality due to race is very real and it has a big affect on African Americans. As a Criminal Justice major with a minor in Sociology at Clark Atlanta University, the work and determination of W.E. B Dubois was installed in me and pushed me to strive and understand my culture more than ever before. W.E.B Dubois contributions to sociological theory such as civil rights, education and economic opportunities for people of color are strongly talked about at Clark Atlanta University. History is clearly repeating itself dealing with the way African Americans are perceived and treated. Even though there are several African Americans who know their worth, it can sometimes be hard to face challenges, such as inequality issues due to race in 2017. After hearing so many stories about our ancestors who fought for equality rights, who would ever thought that minorities would be still fighting in today s generation all over again. In the 2016 2017 Presidential Election candidate now newly elected President Donald Trump states, In the old days, protesters would be carried out on stretchers. Hearing a person say something such as this, especially candidate who was running for president of the United States is very shocking and distasteful. • 7. The Recent Engagement Of Contemporary Islamic Thought With... Serhan Tanriverdi Contemporary Islamic Thought Dr. Ermin Sinanovic Reflection Paper The Recent Engagement of Contemporary Islamic Thought with Modernity in the West Modernization theory has been one of the master theoretical narratives to understand the major institutional and cultural transformation from traditional societies to modern ones. It was developed by the founders of sociology and has dominated the widespread understanding and explanations of many social differentiation processes including rationalization, individualization, urbanization, and secularization for several decades. Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization were unavoidable route and common destinations and patters for modern or all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side understanding of western modernity. In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges (premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity) in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to ... • 8. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter Lauren Thomas Professor Saunders ENGL 231 October 23rd, 2014 The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a creature is near her breath, it dies. Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a wise decision. Her horror keeps him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer. The second conflict that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Energy Resources And Nonrenewable Resources Despite only being around for around two hundred thousand years, humanity has accomplished many great tasks. Humans have been able to conquer most of the land on Earth. They have been able to find ways to travel across huge landscapes in a matter of hours. They have developed ways to grow and harvest their own food through agriculture. Humans even were able to send people into space. Despite these accomplishments, they have all come at a great cost. Humans had to deforest many areas in order to be able to live in those places. Almost all of the modern transportation relies on the nonrenewable resource that is fossil fuels. As the population has grown, bigger farms were made that consume loads of water. Due to these costs, the greatest threat to human sustainability is our reliance on nonrenewable energy and resources. In order to shift from this path, humanity must continue to move away from nonrenewable energy and develop renewable energy, and convince businesses that this path is profitable. In the current system, the greatest threat to the survival of humanity is the over reliance on nonrenewable energy resources. What generally comes to mind with nonrenewable resources is fossil fuels, however trees and water can also be applied in this situation. When the topic is about deforestation, some would argue that trees can grow back making them a renewable resource. However, at the rate people are cutting them, the trees do not have enough time to grow back. Sometimes trees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Modern Culture Of Chippewa Today Though Native Americans are today seen as regular members of society and treated as such, and even are given certain special treatments (such as federally recognized tribes being seen as domestic dependant nations and allowing for them to have their own set of laws), there can be no argument when it is said that, in the past, they were treated terribly. In fact, when European settlers came, their clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide. The Chippewa lived mainly in the American midwest (including Michigan) and in Ontario, a Canadian province. I use the term lived here because, despite the Chippewa being alive and well, they are more spread out now due to the advantages of modern technology. The modern culture of Chippewa today is vastly different from original Chippewa, as well (Friedl, pgs 814 815). Food for them could range from rabbit or deer or even bears (Copway, George, Hulan, Shelley, pgs 26 and 28) to corn and wild rice (Friedl, pg 816). According to Friedl s data, Chippewas generally expect their circumstances to be constantly changing. For example, indigenous Chippewas left a lot of things to chance. As stated previously, they planted corn, but they did not tend to it (Friedl, pg 816). They collected wild rice when it was available, as well as nuts and berries when they were in season. They also heavily relied on dreams to lead them in the right direction (Friedl, 816). If they dreamed they would prosper elsewhere, they would leave. If they dreamed of ... • 11. Holocaust Survivor, Elie Wiesel s Strategies in The Perils... Elie Wiesel a Holocaust survivor and award winning human rights activist passionately gave his speech, The Perils of Indifference, while in the White House on April 12, 1999. The speech was part of the Millennium Lecture series, which was hosted by President Bill Clinton and his wife. Mrs. Hilary Clinton introduced Elie as well, saying: It was more than a year ago that I asked Elie if he would be willing to participate in these Millennium Lectures...I never could have imagined that when the time finally came for him to stand in this spot and to reflect on the past century and the future to come, that we would be seeing children in Kosovo crowded into trains, separated from families, separated from their homes, robbed of their childhoods, their memories, their humanity. Indeed, the events in Kosovo created an effective environment that Wiesel could use to tell the audience about some of his experiences during the Holocaust and to communicate why humanity must fight against the evil of indifference. Wiesel knows about that evil firsthand. How could he not with his experiences in the Holocaust? This experience is a large factor in his relationship with the issue, and he references it subtly several times, as he frequently uses the words we and us when talking about those who have experienced the worst effects of indifference. The reason he felt such a need to communicate why humanity should despise indifference is, in fact, because it so directly affected him. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. President Islam Karimov Left His Country Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov left his country as he ruled it: plagued by inconsistencies in news reports, government cover ups, and incorrigible deceit. While Karimov reportedly died on September 2nd at the age of 78 due to a brain hemorrhage, he likely passed away well before his government s official announcement. The full extent of Karimov s critical condition was not revealed to the media until his daughter, Lola Karimova Tillyaeva, announced it on her Instagram profile. Then, after days of speculation, the Uzbek government finally confirmed that Karimov had passed away. Following a few hours of leadership contention, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the chairman of the upper house of Parliament and next in the line of presidential succession, stepped aside to allow long time Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev to become the interim leader. The government s postponement of broadcasting Karimov s death may raise eyebrows, but rather it sheds light on the fears of the regime. Considering that in its 25 years of existence, Uzbekistan has never held democratic elections and that nearly half of the country s 32 million citizens have only lived under Karimov, such a delay in announcing the Uzbekistani leader s death signifies that the regime is concerned about maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately for its citizens, its neighbors in Central Asia, and leaders around the world, Uzbekistan s status quo is malicious, progressively inert and undeniably criminal. Though it has been ... • 14. How To Improve Uk Voting System I believe that we need to make major adjustments to UK elections for them to be fairer. This must include changes to our voting system which is First Past The Post, a system where electors vote for their first choice candidate and those with the most votes win the election in that constituency. I think this because the current voting system isn t fair, in the 2015 elections the Conservatives won but just because they got more seats than any party needed to win they didn t get 50% of the vote BBC news*1 stated that they only got 36.9% which means to me they shouldn t have actually won. Also with FPTP many votes are wasted because people disagree with the system and don t think there s any purpose in voting. I think that an alternative voting system would be a much fairer way to choose who is elected. From a school worksheet it stated that in 2005 66% of all MP s elected did not get over 50% no party has won a majority since 1935 *2. An alternative voting system is where the system asks voters to rank candidates in order of preference. People can nominate as many preferences as they like. Only first preference votes are counted. Anyone getting more than 50% of these votes is elected automatically of the votes in their constituency. This should be our new voting system because it gives people a chance to vote for who they actually want and may make them become more encouraged to vote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chinese Room Argument While proponents of strong AI believe that machines are capable of imitating human consciousness so well that it might be perceived as actually obtaining consciousness, others such as John Searle believe otherwise. Another logical stance on the question is accepting that machines are able to behave as though it has a conscious mind physically, but also arguing that machines will never be able to possess this consciousness as though a human would. This second type of viewpoint is considered Weak Artificial Intelligence, otherwise known as narrow artificial intelligence. Weak AI is acknowledging that machines can simulate consciousness computationally, but that is different from actually obtaining consciousness. One of the most widely known ... Searle believed that simply manipulating symbols will not ensure computers are able to think or understand, in other words, knowing syntax does not mean understanding the semantics, and function does not mean understanding. There are of course many criticisms of Searle s Chinese Room Argument, the main ones include the Systems Reply, the Robot Reply, the Brain Simulator Reply, the Other Minds Reply, and the Intuition Reply. In Searle s Chinese Room Argument, the person inside the room is defined as not able to understand Chinese. But in response to that, the Systems Reply brings up the point that while the person might not know any Chinese, the system as a whole understands Chinese. The Virtual Mind Reply is similar to the Systems Reply in that the person inside the room might not understand Chinese by him or herself. But Virtual Mind Reply questions whether understanding is created or not. While the person in the room might not have any knowledge of Chinese at the beginning, running the system might create an agent that does have understanding of Chinese. The Robot Reply, while accepting that the person in the room might not understand Chinese or the computer in the room does not understand a particular language, suggests that giving a computer a body would mean something different for the computer. Being able to interact with the environment using sensors might enable the computer to learn. The Brain Simulator Reply suggests to consider the program being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. My Own Creative Process And Transformative Experiences... This paper intends to describe the application of my own creative process and transformative experiences during the stages of work from creation to completion of an original body of sculptural artwork. Secondarily, providing analysis and interpretation of the relationship to the theories of creativity that have been studied throughout this course. I will be using the concept of self awareness found in Maslow s hierarchy of needs (Runco, 2014) and the concept of self observation as a form of measurement and as the primary research method. The result of this concentration aims to demonstrate the generation and connection of new knowledge that deepened my understanding of creativity in the context of the person, process, place, and product. There are many definitions, from many people of what creativity is and what it is not. It only seems logical to start with my own definition for a sequential frame of reference. I believe that creativity is having vision and exercising cognitive processes that when combined with personality traits, influential experiences, environments, and learned skillsets generate original ideas by an individual. That is a synthesis of three of the five creativity research paradigms: person, process, and place, summarized in Creativity: Theories and Themes: Research, Development, and Practice. (Runco et.al, 2014) This is my vision. Before starting this course, I had been thinking about the possibility of creating sculptures that intertwine art with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next whistle is called, gun is blown, and I shoot out of the blocks. Taking the first turn competing for the top spot, running my hardest. First hundred down, three to go. Getting up in the second place spot. Behind first place now by only a few steps as we hit the final hundred, I get closer and closer to her. Neck and neck, finally passing her and finishing with compassion and greatness. Having good sportsmanship walking over to the other girls and telling them good race. One event down, two to go. I have my relay team ready, we walk to all our spots, lay our marks down and the race will be starting soon. I m on the other side of the track, in position, ready to go. While most people have the chance to find true love, these women are left threatened and in danger. The choice of whom to marry should be left to determine on one s own. Marriages should not be arranged for reasons of money, religion, or reputation because physical and mental abuse are common, the freedom that people are granted is limited by denying the pursuit of happiness, and love is better developed in a consensual marriage rather than a forced one which leads to greater satisfaction. When speaking of love, love has to be developed in an arranged marriage, as they will only know each other better after the wedding. In a love marriage, the couples have been together long enough to get to know each other before the marriage, so they have always been in love, and there is no need to develop it. Another problem in forced marriages, is that men are always more dominant than the women. No one seems to be dominant person over the other in a love marriage. This is another reason that women are more likely to be abused in an involuntary marriage. Opioid medication is licenced for the management of moderate to severe pain however, long term use can cause reliance of the drug yet when used to treat a terminal illness, there are no restrictions (Knott, 2013; Nice, 2016). Morphine s most common side effects include nausea and vomiting, sedation, constipation, hypotension and sweating however, it can cause hallucinations which are important in the management of anxiety in palliative care (Everyday Health, 2016; Mann Carr, 2009). • 31. City Expansion In Medieval Europe An inhabited bridge is defined according to Jean Dethier in Inhabited Bridges, past, present and future, An interview with Jean Dethier , in Living Bridges (1996) as follows: Definition of Inhabited Bridges: An inhabited Bridge in addition to its primary function of surmounting natural or man made obstacles, be they rivers or canals, railways or motorways serves as an organic link between two urban areas by connecting them to each other with a development of buildings erected on the bridge deck to form permanent accommodation for various social and economic activities. Thus, every inhabited bridge consists of two elements: the platform that spans the obstacle and an architectural superstructure. In contrasts to a purely vehicular bridge, the inhabited bridge provides a continuity within the urban fabric that is not only social and economic but also cultural, emotional and symbolic at a point where a natural break would otherwise exist. Indeed, it is both seductive and functional. • 32. Negative Effects On Oil Spills Oil spills wreak havoc on many different factors of the world. They can negatively impact the environment, specifically marine life, and economic industries, as well. Most oil spills occur when a large amount of oil is released due to accidents of vehicles or machinery. Although it can occur anywhere, it s most visible in oceans or bodies of water. Spills can be because of human error or accident, natural disasters, or faulty equipment. Additional problems arise because spills take a significant amount of time to clean. The oil spreads across the body of water and floats on the surface, preventing sunlight from passing. This can cause substantial damage and harm to the animal and plant life. Spills also cover wildlife in oil, which can expose animals to dangerous elements, and destroy the insulating ability of fur mammals and the water repelling ability of birds. Oil contains poisonous chemicals, and when animals ingest or inhale this oil, they are often infected or killed. They also pollute bodies of water and contaminate human water resources. Toxic substances in the oil cause extensive damage to the ecosystem and food chains. They also have a significant influence on the economic industries. Oil spills mean that there s less gas and petroleum available for public use. There s always the cost of cleaning the spill, which may require outside or expensive assistance. The tourism industry also takes a hit, especially in usually popular areas, such as Florida beaches. The once beautiful attractions become ugly and gross, covered in dead animals and tarballs balls of oil. This prevents recreational activities such as parasailing, swimming, rafting, etc. This thereby ruins the businesses that run the activities and the tourism industries, hurting the economic status of the state or country. However, there are many solutions, including preventative, preparedness, and cleanup methods. Preventative methods start at the initial building of the equipment that will later produce, hold, and transport oil. Proper training on how to conduct oil procedures should also be enforced for the employees who will later have to handle oil. These measures decrease the likelihood of an oil spill happening later. • 34. Female And Female Gender Roles Literature throughout history has displayed to us the evolution of the male and female gender roles in society. Women have been described as the angel in the house, whilst men are typified as dominant and prevailing in comparison to women. The gothic genre in literature is used to personify and exaggerate these stereotypes, by using gothic motifs such as dream sequences and themes such as horror and terror. Not only does the gothic exaggerate the stereotypes, but it also allows them to be contravened, due to the transgressive nature of the genre. The psychoanalytical aspect of this genre, allows for repressed desires to be made eminent and therefore characters can transgress and in the process, cross their contemporary gender boundaries. Keats uses the gothic device of Negative capability in order to conceal the transgression of the females in his poetry, Carter revised gothic fairytales in order to display them from a feminist approach and Stoker uses gothic themes, set against the backdrop of the fluidity of Fin de siècle period, to allow characters to stray from their gender stereotypes.
