MEANING OF PERSONALITY:
• The term personality is derived from the Latin
word “persona” meaning a mask. Personality is a
patterned body of habits, traits, attitudes and
ideas of an individual as these are organized
externally into roles and statuses and as they
relate internally to motivation, goals and various
aspects of selfhood.
Personality:
Personality is acquired by the individual as a
result of his participation in group life. As a
member of the group he learns certain behavior
systems and symbolic skills which determine his
ideas, attitudes and social values. These ideas,
attitudes and values which an individual holds
comprise his personality.
Types of Personality:
• Internal Personality
• External Personality
TYPES OF PERSONALITY:
• TYPE A:
There behavior is expressed in three major
symptoms: free-floating hostility, which can be
triggered by even minor incidents; time urgency
and impatience, which causes irritation
and exasperation (irritated) usually described as
being "short-fused"; and a competitive drive,
which causes stress and an achievement-driven
mentality.
TYPE B:
They enjoying achievement but not becoming
stressed when they are not achieved. When faced
with competition, they do not mind losing and
either enjoy the game or back down. They may
be creative and enjoy exploring ideas and
concepts. They are often reflective, thinking
about the outer and inner worlds….
Factors Affecting Personality :
“BIG FIVE” personality model
Human resources professionals often use the Big
Five personality dimensions to help place
employees. That is because these dimensions are
considered to be the underlying traits that make up
an individual’s overall personality:
Model of big five
Extraversion focuses on the
comfort level of an individual in
interaction with others.
 Assertive
 Outgoing
 Talkative
 Open
 Timid
 Quiet
 Reserved
Agreeableness refers to an individual’s
behavior towards others while interacting with
them.
Good
Natured
Co-operative
Trusting
Cold
Antagonistic
Distant
Openness to experience measures the individual’s
ability to be open to any kind of experience that
helps him/her to do the job effectively.
 More Approachable
 Creative
 Imagination
 Curiosity
 Uncomfortable
 Practical
 Traditional
 Down-to-earth
 Conservative
Emotional Stability refers to the ability of an
individual to control his/her emotions at the
time of crisis.
Calm
Self-confident
Secure
Nervous
Depressed
Insecure
Conscientiousness refers to the extent to which
individuals show consistent & reliable behavior while
working in the organization.
 High Responsible
 Dependable
 Organized
 Persistent
 Unreliable
 Disorganized
 Inconsistent
 Easy-going

  • 2. MEANING OF PERSONALITY: • The term personality is derived from the Latin word “persona” meaning a mask. Personality is a patterned body of habits, traits, attitudes and ideas of an individual as these are organized externally into roles and statuses and as they relate internally to motivation, goals and various aspects of selfhood.
  • 4. Personality is acquired by the individual as a result of his participation in group life. As a member of the group he learns certain behavior systems and symbolic skills which determine his ideas, attitudes and social values. These ideas, attitudes and values which an individual holds comprise his personality.

TYPES OF PERSONALITY: • TYPE A: There behavior is expressed in three major symptoms: free-floating hostility, which can be triggered by even minor incidents; time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation (irritated) usually described as being "short-fused"; and a competitive drive, which causes stress and an achievement-driven mentality.
  • 8. TYPE B: They enjoying achievement but not becoming stressed when they are not achieved. When faced with competition, they do not mind losing and either enjoy the game or back down. They may be creative and enjoy exploring ideas and concepts. They are often reflective, thinking about the outer and inner worlds….
  • 10. “BIG FIVE” personality model Human resources professionals often use the Big Five personality dimensions to help place employees. That is because these dimensions are considered to be the underlying traits that make up an individual’s overall personality:
