Therefore, many people use technology for many reason. For example; transportation,

Organizational Changes Essay
Organizational Changes Organizational changes take place when the force field that
counterbalances change is overcome. Different power base utilization facilitates these types of
changes. Change could be a topic in and by itself but we have chosen to incorporate the use of
different power bases and their effects on change. Power, in organizational change, is having the
potential ability to influence behavior, to change the course of events, to overcome resistance, and
to get people to do things that they would not otherwise do.(1) Understanding when to use a
particular type of power base can ease the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The follower s would need to be inspired and convinced that all efforts that are to be put forth are

changing stage was further broken down after the initial introduction of the three stages;
commonly referred to as the eight stage model when the additional steps are included. After the
changes are implemented it has to be institutionalized into the culture to prevent regression into
the old ways. Since this model was covered in the text, I will generalize the other models and

Gap Model (3) is used when a clear mental picture exists of what is desired to happen. It has two
stages: one is the present state and the second is the future desired state. The strategy that is to be
determined to attain the future state is laid out with the understanding that resistance will be
encountered. If the change is to be implemented with minimal resistance then the coercive power,
information power, and expert power bases are best. The person with the vision must be possess

The World Of The Classical Solar System
Last July, NASA s New Horizons spacecraft flew by Pluto, the last unvisited world of the
classical solar system. As the largest known member of the Kuiper belt, Pluto is also the gateway
to a new frontier, a scarcely studied collection of primordial icy bodies far from the sun that
constitutes the third zone of the solar system after the realms of the inner rocky planets and the
outer gas giants.
Like most first glimpses of new frontiers, Pluto held so many surprises for New Horizons that the
past eight months have seen a steady stream of discoveries coming from the mission, as the
spacecraft s small radio transmitter beams its gathered data back home. The biggest surprises have
been Pluto s surface and atmosphere, which are restlessly active and diverse despite average
temperatures of only tens of degrees above absolute zero. Some scientists expected New Horizons
would find Pluto to be little more than an inert, sunlight starved orb. Instead, the spacecraft
encountered a world where nitrogen glaciers flow down into plains of frozen methane from
towering mountains of water ice. Sunless half frozen oceans lurk deep beneath the surface, and
multiple moons tumble overhead through hydrocarbon hazed red skies that tinge to blue at sunrise
and sunset.
But beyond celebrating the visceral thrill of the Pluto flyby itself, or the intellectual frisson of
gazing on full color close ups of a place so alien and faraway, most of these discoveries from New
Horizons have so far found a

Ode On A Grecian Urn By John Keats

ENG 114
25 September 2017
How Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn Reflects His Feelings and Beliefs Upon reading Ode on a
Grecian Urn by John Keats, one may notice his references to the religions and customs of ancient
Greek culture, and be able to contrast these observations to those he has made about other
religions. The speaker studies the urn, and sees drawings of people partaking in activities and even
dealing with personal struggles. An academic journal titled, Just Beauty: Ovid and the Argument of
Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn gives more information in regard to Keats s observations. Arnd
Bohm, the author of this article, tells of religious processes mentioned by Keats in both Ode on a
Grecian Urn and one of his earlier works titled Written in Disgust of Vulgar Superstition. In these
works, Keats references two different religions and different customs being practiced. In Ode on a
Grecian Urn, ideas of beauty and love are also referenced heavily. According to the speaker s
observations, the Grecian urn seems to be not only beautiful and lyrical, but also has timelessness
on its side; while such qualities are not mentioned about other religions and customs.
Bohm states that Keats struggled to accept the teachings of Christianity and saw a potential for
nature to serve such a purpose while writing Written in Disgust of Vulgar Superstition. (Bohm 3). In
this sonnet, Keats writes: Some other gloominess, more dreadful cares,

Native American Asimilation Of Native Americans
The film opens with the Native American victory at Little Big Horn over General Custer and his
men on June 25, 1876. Custer s death and the Native American win sparked rage from the U.S.
government and led them to redraw territories so that the gold filled Black Hills would not be
included in the reservation land. The event of the movie focus on the government s attempts to steal
this land and the resistance of the Native Americans.
1)Who was Charles Eastman and what were the contending forces that shaped him throughout the
film?
Charles Eastman is born mixed race and grows up in a tribe under the name OhГЌyesa in the
Dakotas until he is reunited with his father who had converted to Christianity and changed his name
to Jacob Eastman as part of assimilating into the United States like the U.S. government desired.
Charles is educated in schools with white teachers put forth to facilitate the assimilation of Native
Peoples. He is very bright and goes on to study at Dartmouth and Boston University medical
school. Throughout his education he remembers his past and wants to make life for Native
Americans better. He remembers his Native American people and their struggle but is also
distanced from in and surrounded by white society. He is trusted by the powerful white men that he
forms business friendships with while they try to use him to help in their exploitation and
assimilation of the Natives by praising him and advancing his European American style education.

Rise Of Soccer Research Paper
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, but soccer is not just a game. It s more than a
game. Soccer will help others in ways that other sports can t necessarily do. Soccer is not only
an engaging sport, but it also gives you physical and mental benefits. Much associate soccer with
English history, but actually it all started in the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty started the roots
of the game by filling leather balls with feathers and hair, and in which they had to kick the ball
through a small opening. It isn t as easy as many would think because you aren t allowed to use
your hands, so in other words, you can use everything else. This new game eventually caught on
big in England, and even though the game is massively popular, the game was frowned upon at the
same time. The players would get so caught up in the game... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Richard Mulcaster believed, He pointed out that the game, if requiring a little refinement, had a
positive educational value as it promoted health and strength (History of Football). What he first
did was that he wanted a limited number of players per team, so they aren t as crowded as
before. This new and important change would help let all players feel like they are part of the
team. Most notably, he wanted a referee that would be much stricter, so the king wouldn t ban the
game for being too violent again. Richard Mulcaster changed the basics of the game, so it would
be more beneficial for people to play. The major changes of the game though came around the
beginning of the 19th century. Soccer being admitted into schools was the turning point because
the game was spread throughout to other places for people to have ideas on how the game should
function as a sport. From there, It soon gathered momentum and rapidly reached all parts of the

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets Analysis
Luc Beeson s massive $180 million science fiction spectacle, Valerian and the City of a Thousand
Planets, inspired from the favorite comics of his youth, is a gorgeous looking, borderline disaster
of a film. At times, the film feels epic, clever, and original. In other moments, especially in the films
final 30 minutes, everything devolves into laugh out loud ridiculousness and cringe worthy acting
and writing. Though never boring, even at 140 minutes on screen, whether dazzling to witness or
stiltedly awful to endure, you simply never know what is coming next.
Beeson s latest film earned that production budget largely through crowd sourcing and the writer

Feed a pearl to a conductor, and suddenly countless pearls come pouring out of the animal. This
regeneration serves as the necessary ingredient for a peaceful, perfect lifestyle.
One particular day, the Pearls fall victim to an attack, which unceremoniously combusts their planet
and leads to a sudden and immediate genocide. A handful of Pearls, away from the planet, did
survive and though they have tried to replicate their inter dimensional world, there are things they
need: An energy pearl for replicating more marble sized pebbles, and the last remaining conductor,
which has just been recovered from a nasty villain and rests in the possession of our (not so)
humble protagonists.
Perhaps it should be mentioned that at this point, Beeson seems unclear on what exactly our
protagonists do for their jobs. DeHaan is a fine actor, but a poor choice to try and carry a two
plus hour science fiction adventure which is saddled with nebulous focus and immature scripting.
His lack of charisma in this role is jarring, as he opts for a weird 1990 s Keanu Reeves style affect
to his voice, and comes off as often smug or manipulative.
Opposite him, Delevingne equips herself well, though Beeson clearly has no idea how to write
dialogue that makes us believe that she could truly love this guy, or that

The Reasons For Growth Of Rapid Population Between...
The Reasons for Growth of Rapid Population between Seventeenth and Nineteenth Century Britain
A wide variety of people living in the world have always been exposed at constant change and the
evolution in population has always been a concern and issue by regimes and countries through out
time, especially if it occurred within such short period of time. British economy and Europe
underwent their greatest population transformation between the late 17th and the late 19th century.
Especially, the growth of the English population in the eighteenth century has long interested
economic historians and it subsequently provoked Thomas Malthus to debate about the relationship
between population change and economics growth. Nonetheless, the structure ... Show more content

Despite these difficulties, the Cambridge Group s leading members, Tony Wrigley and Roger
Schofield have discerned a rise in the rate of English population increase in the second half of the
eighteenth century and have emphasized fertility is the key mechanisms of population growth.
The major reason for the growth of population in eighteenth century England can be accredited to a
fall in mortality, which was particularly marked during the first half of the eighteenth century. The
fall affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic
reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major
hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene
associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in
mortality in the first half of the century.
Revolutions are generally linked with upheaval in society, transforming a nation and its people.
British agricultural revolution was the unprecedented increase in agricultural production in England
due to increases in labour and land productivity that took place between 1750 and 1850. The
Agricultural Revolution saw the invention of the reaper, which saved many back breaking hors of
labour in the fields and eliminated the fallow land from farming. Agricultural revolution allowed the

Coral Bleaching And Its Impact On Coral Reef Ecosystems
Abstract
This paper reviews what we currently know about coral bleaching and its impact on coral reef
ecosystems. It analyses the scientific evidence linking coral bleaching to climate change and other
anthropogenic activities. It also focuses on the importance of ecosystem services provided by coral
reefs, and the socio economic and environmental impacts of coral bleaching. The paper concludes
with a set of recommendations and mitigation strategies to slow down the rate of coral bleaching,
thus allowing coral reefs to adapt and develop resilience in the face of climate change.
Introduction

(Andrew, Glynn, Riegl, 2008) This loss of zooxanthellae or the reduction in their pigment
concentration from the host is referred to as coral bleaching. Bleaching turns the host coral white,
as the skeleton becomes visible through the coral s transparent tissue. Bleached corals can survive
without their counterparts for weeks or months. However, as this symbiosis is vital for reef
building, the absence of it significantly reduces coral growth and reproductive ability, eventually
leading to reef mortality. (Knowlton, 2001)
Causes of Coral Bleaching
Coral reefs have suffered degradation due to anthropogenic activities for decades. The direct and
indirect effects of overfishing and pollution from agriculture and land development have been the
major drivers of coral reef decline over the past two centuries. More importantly, these threats to
coral reefs have been compounded and exacerbated by superimposed impacts of global climate
change, such as rising sea temperature and level, and increased ocean acidification. (T. P. Hughes,
2003)
Coral reefs are found in coastal tropical environments, typically between latitudes 25oS and 25oN,
and can tolerate water temperatures ranging from 18oC to 30oC. (Hoegh Guldberg O. , 1999)
Most literature reviewed highlights elevated SST, particularly during repeated ENSO events, as the
most common cause of mass coral bleaching episodes. These stressed, overheated corals expel most

The Oklahoma Outrage And The Tulsa Outrage
All throughout the history of Tulsa, Oklahoma there has been many racially charged tragedies that
have happened. Many people believe that the so called Brady Street, which was named after the
founding father of Tulsa, Wyatt Tate Brady, should be changed due to his membership with the Ku
Klux Klan. In 2013, business owners in Tulsawanted and are still, in 2017, wanting to change the
Brady street named after W.T. Brady and name it Brady street after the Civil War photographer. I
believe that it should not be changed just because of the story behind Wyatt Tate Brady and how
much he truly was involved with The Tulsa Outrage and The Race Riot and what The Brady
District is today. One of the most horrific events that happened in 1917 was the Tulsa Outrage.
The Tulsa Outrage was most known for when seventeen men were murdered. One late November
night a group of about fifty men dressed in all black known as the Wobblies approached
seventeen men. The seventeen men were then pulled from the lineup, tied to a tree, a Knight
approached every man with a double piece of hemp rope and whipped the victim s back until
blood draped their backs. Another man stepped forward and slathered boiling tar on the victim s
backs with a paint brush, coating him from head to seat. The final act of humiliation, the Knight
then padded the victim s back with feathers from a down pillow (Chapman 2). According to
multiple interviews conducted by National Civil Liberties Bureau Investigator L.A.

Casa Valentina By Harvey Fierstein
Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein. The play certainly was not what I expected once I saw it
live. Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the
plays to see if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina
because it was about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The playis set in the early 1960s when men
would go to the Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape
being men. Seeing the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has
always been a source of comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was
also a huge success, being nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other
awards. With this in mind, I thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwrightwas trying to
say about life is that everyone is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my
identity? To what are the differences in genderidentity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some
fascinating questions about these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in
matrimony when one of the partners begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one
simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It brings out the central conflict of illusion versus
reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown adult men, married with a spouse of the
opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this,

Persuasive Essay About Martial Arts
Earlier in my book, i gave a list of reasons why martial arts fail to prepare people for self defense.
I will elaborate on the topic in this chapter. Bruce Lee said it and now i m going to repeat it
styles limit minds! Think about it. You pay for a class in Wing Chun, Wushu, Krav Maga, Judo,
or any style and what do you learn? Forms, drills, techniques, moves, and rules. You spend
countless hours practicing forms, never knowing what they are for. You spend almost no time
applying them completely in combat. You are enslaved by the art. You get a slap on the wrist if
you try to do anything outside of what the style entails. Too fat and don t have enough muscle?
You ll get told to hit the gym. Too muscular? That s bad for your techniques as big muscles slow
you down. What if you have the potential to be one of the fastest or greatest strikers in the world?
What if you have the potential to put your brute strength excellent use in addition to performing
the art? What if you could still fight at lightning speed despite your large size? What if you have
the potential to do something extraordinary that s never been done before? How do you figure out
a way to accomplish all of that? Certainly not in your local martial artsschool!
The only way to find out is to research what each style has to offer, take what you find useful from
each one, modify it, and discard the rest. In doing so, you create balance. You practice during
training to make your ideas work. You could try

Long Beach Physical Activities Analysis
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states the following: Regular physical activity in
childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and

The Government In The Giver s Society
The government in the fictional movie The Giver is viewed as a corrupt nation by the main
characters, Jonas and the Giver; however, in the real world, the Gaza Strip is even more of an
unethical dystopian society due to government control, food supply, and the loss of lives.
Phillip Noyce used his directorial skills to show the horror it is to live in the Communities of The
Giver s society. It is portrayed to be a heinous society that is under the control of the Chief Elders.
The civilians are under the belief that nothing existed beyond the Communities. The government
protects its citizens by deleting the memories of every feeling known to man with morning

The Gaza Strip was put into a state of distraught by the Israeli imposed blockade against the
Palestinian territory. Israel s government has had control over the Gaza Strip ever since its
victory back in 1967. Ruth Eglash constructed interviews with both Palestinians and Israelis to
ask the simple question, is Gaza still occupied? It came to a conclusion, that there is proof and
evidence that Gaza is still under the control of Israel, even if people say otherwise. One of her
interviewees, Raji Sourani, stated, They are trying to highlight the gravity of the situation [in
Gaza], where 65 percent of the people are unemployed, 90 percent live under the poverty line, 85

creating the blockade against them. If Gaza was not under the harsh restrictions it is, the economy
would not have dropped to these rates. Furthermore, under the rule of Israel the residents of Gaza
have gone hungry multiple times. With no clean water supply and scarce food sources there is
nothing else to do but wait and hope for a chance that some will appear. Parents fight to provide

I Left The Biotech Industry
I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy
working in a research laboratory all day with little interaction with people. One night I was
watching The Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill
Moyers was interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a
statement that resonated with me follow your bliss he said. For the next several months, it was
the only thing that I was thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant
with my son, and I was stuck in a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me

Dahl Vs Matilda
Being able to depict details from a non fictional novel and a fictional novel and tie in
comparisons is not always an easy task. Boy: Tales of Childhood is an autobiographical novel
written by Roald Dahl and Matilda is a fictional novel written by Dahl. Both books have similar
aspects such as family life, schoollife, and living conditions. Dahl makes his experiences come to
life when writing his fictional novels, making them enjoyable to the reader.
Growing up, most children do not have to worry about so many tragedies at such a young age. In

Although, In Matilda none of her family members passed away, it is possible that Dahl is trying
to show that he would rather be neglected by his family than have little to no family at all. In
addition, Matilda found someone to look up to and enjoy her childhood with. Perhaps, Dahl
wishes he had that kind of connection with someone as a child. No one taught Dahl right from
wrong, which was why he was naughty at times. Stated in Boy:Tales of Childhood, She had five
children to look after, three of her own and two by her husband s first wife, and to make matters
worse, she herself was expecting another baby in two months time. (2.16) This quote explains
how crowded Dahl s home was growing up. With his mother having so many children to look
after, it was hard for her to raise each child and more importantly build a strong bond with each
of them. On the other hand, Matilda only has one brother, Michael. However, her parents do not
give her the time of day and continuously favor Mike because he takes after his parents and is
greatly similar to them in regards to his intelligence and behavior. His parents understand him and
not Matilda. The whole family represents the complete opposite of Matilda. When she tries to
connect with her family or show them something she is interested in they just push her away. For
instance, when her father says, I don t want to know what it s about...I m fed up with your reading
anyway. Go find yourself something useful to do. (4.10) Matilda is very lonely and has no one in
her household to interact with. Her family is not interested in what she delights in therefore they

A Tale Of Two Cities Essay
Capitol Punishment: Toy of Evil Men
One might believe that because capital punishment plays such a large role in Charles Dickens A
Tale Of Two Cities, that Dickens himself is a supporter of it. This just simply is not true. Dickens
uses capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and
the opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature
of humankind.
In the beginning of the novel, capital punishment serves as the quot;cure all quot; for France s
social problems. After all, quot;death is nature s remedy for all things, and why not legislation s?
quot; (62). It is this attitude that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
quot; They are murdering the prisoners, quot; says Mr. Lorry to Darnay after arriving in France
(260). Again Dickens uses capitol punishment as a way to show the reader the atrocities that
humanity can create when consumed with hatred and evil. Dickens can be seen approaching the
subject of the guillotine with cynical sarcasm when he writes, quot;it was the popular theme for
jests; it was the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented the hair from turning gray...who
kissed La Guillotine looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack quot; (271). Just as
with the Aristocrats, Dickens does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain
is apparent in his tone; which gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of
the prisoners is fair.
Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the
popular attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior.
Dickens articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the
sign of the regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). These
quot;followers of the guillotine quot; are ruthless in their quest for blood as they shout quot;Take
off his head...an enemy to the republic! quot; (280). By showing the ridiculous manner in which the
people of France behave, Dickens teaches us a lesson about

Medea Greek Theatre Essay
Medea, written by Euripides, is a play laced with elements of Greek theater. The play centers
around Medea, whose husband, Jason, has left her and their children for the princess of Creon.
Medea must struggle with these events and the course of action she decides to take; killing her and
Jason s two sons in order to make him feel her misery. These events employ several elements of
Greek theater, including; transcending cultural and temporal boundaries, specifically that of
difficult relationships and painful decisions, women fighting misogyny and the patriarchy, and the
use of chorus in order to give insight into events and characters.
Medea is able to transcend cultural and temporal boundaries by telling the story of difficult
romantic relationships and the making of painful decisions. These elements of Greek theatre are
relevant throughout the play as the audience is shown the complicated relationship between Medea
and Jason and the difficult decisions made by this relationship. Medea and Jason are a prime
example of a difficult romantic relationship; Jason has left Medea and their two children for
another woman, leaving her alone to mourn her lost love. Medea is enraged by Jason s ... Show

mind though you may be surprised at this / You are acting wrongly in thus abandoning your wife.
(10) Here the chorus serves to give the audience insight into the fight and taking place. At the end
of the argument the chorus gives insight into the despair Medea is feeling about her exile. The
chorus is a key part in the audience attaining a greater understanding of the characters, events and

Commissionary intervention occurs when a country would like to be a part of the solution to a
country s crisis, but does not wish to engage directly in the conflict. For example, Bolivia may be
able to produce a small aid package that contains medical supplies and food to the Yemenis citizens.
On the other hand, Bolivia has suggested that larger powers such as the United States, Russia, and
the United Kingdom intervene and work together in a balance of power to create a solution.
Throughout the simulation, Bolivia has most aligned with this form of intervention. It has proven
to be difficult to coordinate efforts among the United Nations Security Council members.
An intervention strategy of quarantine requires that there is cooperation within the region, but
runs the risk of diaspora interference and weakening Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and even Bolivia. This
poses an issue, as Saudi Arabia has forbade any type of aid shipments being allowed into Yemen,
for fear that rebel terrorist groups will ship in arms. Because of the instability in the Middle East,
and it s concern for terrorism human life, Bolivia would not want to further aggravate the situation
by causing Yemenis citizens to be displaced. Bolivia simply does not have the authority or military

Hereditary Spastic Paraplegias ( Hsps )
Introduction 1.1Hereditary spastic paraplegias Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a
group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders that share the
primary feature of progressive lower limb spasticity and weakness, with sparing of the upper
extremities (Blackstone et al., 2010). Although few epidemiological studies have been carried
out, the prevalence of HSPs has been estimated to range from ~3 9 per 100,000 and the age of
onset can vary widely, from early childhood to late in life (Salinas et al., 2008). The HSPs are
classified according to the mode of inheritance (autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and X
linked) and whether progressive spasticity occurs in isolation (uncomplicated HSP) or is
accompanied by additional clinical features such as ataxia, seizures, cognitive impairment and
peripheral neuropathy (complicated HSP) (Fink, 2013). The common pathological feature of HSP
includes distal axonal degeneration, which is most severe in the terminal ends of fibers within the
cortico spinal tract (figure 1.1) (Blackstone, 2012 and Noreau et al., 2014). The cortico spinal tract
is the main pathway involved in voluntary movement in which neurons originating within the
cerebral motor cortex travel relatively long distances to make synaptic connections with lower
motor neurons terminating in skeletal muscle (Blackstone et al., 2010). Axons within the cortico
spinal tract are therefore some of the longest motor neurons within the body,

The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the one of the most lethal disease in the United Sates. The pattern of disease
recurrence being the major cause of morbidity and mortality. In spite of recent advances in our
understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development of prostate cancer,
the survival rate of men with this disease has remained relatively unchanged in over the decades.
Since the Nobel prize winning discovery by Dr. Huggins and Dr. Hodges (Huggins C., 1941)
androgen deprivation therapy is being used by over a half of a century as a primary treatment for
advanced prostate cancer. Even though androgen deprivation therapy remains a palliative treatment
which lasts around 2 3 years on average, and turn to hormone refractory (androgen independent)
prostate cancerwith castrate level of testosterone. However, studies from the Sawyers group and
others found that castration resistant prostate cancers (CRPCs) remains on androgen receptor (AR)
signaling which is reactivated despite low serum androgen levels and targeting the androgen
receptor (AR) signaling pathway remains a keystone of treatment.
A targeted gene therapy approach is developed to activate the immune system to recognize prostate
cancer cells$$. It is designed new treatment, new drugs that specifically target specific biological
pathways deregulated in the cancer cells. Such therapy can affect the growth of cancer cells by

Introduction
The concept of architecture has been used throughout civilization to demonstrate both style and
function. The architecture showcased in a community can give the observer an intricate view into
its beliefs and traditions. It is the architectural artistry of an environment that can offer an aesthetic

The Parthenon of Athens was the temple of Athena Parthenos, known as the Greek goddess of
wisdom, and was built in the 5th century BC. According to Silverman (n.d.), this Doric peripteral
temple was built on the Acropolis in Athens to replace two earlier temples of Athena that were
destroyed by the Persians. The style of the Parthenon denotes clear Doric design. It has rectangular
base dimensions of 69.5 by 30.9 meters with low steps along each side and a cella length of 29.8
meters and 19.2 meters in width. The Parthenon has internal two tiered Doric colonnades and
exterior columns in peripheral format that measure 1.9 meters in diameter and 10.4 meters in
height. Eight columns are located at the façade with seventeen on the opposing sides. Six
columns denote the front and back portico. The cella of the structure housed the statue of Athena
Parthenos dressed in armor and holding Nike, the goddess of victory to the Athenian people, in her
right hand. 23 Doric columns surround the area that displayed the

History Of The Steam Engine
During the early 1770s James Watt, a British inventor, made changes to the existing steam engine
by creating an engine that was not water powered. Watt hoped that the steam engine would be four
times as powerful as earlier models, allowing factories to work more efficiently. Using the steam
engine, Robert Fulton and George Stephenson made different modes of transportation for people
and cargo. Fulton created the first steam powered boat that took people and cargo along the Hudson
river. Similarly, Stephenson constructed a locomotive that carried large hauls over large distances.
An eyewitness from the event, 10 years ago, said, The steam engine that Watt has come up with is
not only extremely efficient, but has also created an influx of jobs in the manufacturing industry .

These critics also believe that the flow of people creates a greater demand for products which is
sustained by both the labor supply as well as the steam engine that decreased the time and cost
that factories had to spend on making these products. Urban cities created centers that offered a
leisure time for those who were living in the city hoping to ease the stress of the worker class.
Skeptics point to the fact that although leisure time was implemented, there were also problems
with the new steam engine as well as population growth. Builders were sometimes unable to build
houses fast enough to accommodate the incoming peoples and factories run by steam engines
caused pollution. Critics further state that this made living conditions horrifying and made for more
dangerous workplaces. The steam engine had its many impacts, but one can only believe in their
own opinion when it comes to deciding whether the steam engine helped or harmed

Depression And Substance Abuse
The occurrence or diagnosis of depression in relation to drug use or abuse presents itself as a bi
directional relationship. Meaning the onset of one of these factors (depression or already present
substance use) creates an equal opportunity for the consequence of another factor to appear. Both
depression and substance use and dependency have the potential to co habitat each other in a
comorbid state. Symptoms occurring with depression, especially if they are left untreated, are
shown to have increased rates of drug use potential while consistent substance use and abuse can
cause depressive symptoms. In examining each condition separately and in conjunction of one

In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its
own first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also
significant to mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems
that deal with them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse
disorder (6% for alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic
diseases in the United States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to
government systems and taxpayers as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion
annually: $224 billion for alcohol ($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11
billion in health care) (Compton and Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are
considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or
craving), and [interruption of] life activities [which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug
using, and recovering from the effects of use (Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an
addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain
which can induce, pleasurable feelings and, very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors
to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it
can transition into a habit and create a dependency on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to
depression, those who suffer from substance abuse disorders also have a variety of treatment
options. These treatment options include long term and short term residential treatments (inpatient
and outpatient), individualized drug counseling, and group counseling (NIDA, n.d). With

The Role Of Social Media On Healthcare
INTRODUCTION The healthcare industry is slowly embracing and recognizing the importance
and power of social media. Millions of people of all ages go online each day, to seek information,
do online research, share photos, write blogs, watch videos, play online games, and so much
more. Many healthcare businesses have already, or are starting, to create an online presence to
capture the millions of people that go online every day. Social media can help healthcare
professionals and organizations to promote and advertise their products and services locally and
globally. Different healthcare social media sites make it easier for consumers to locate the
products and/or services they want to find. Successful healthcare social media sites are designed to
be engaging, interactive and to create positive relationships with existing consumers. Then,
potential new clients can make better purchasing decisions based on the first hand experience from
others who have personal knowledge of the product or service. ROLE OF HEALTHCARE
SOCIAL MEDIA The role of social media in healthcare follows the same principles as most other
industries in terms of mass communication, global reach, engagement, and instantaneous feedback
from and to a relevant group of people. In short, the healthcare social media platform is an effective,
low cost method to share information, create communities, and maintain relationships with key

The Impact Of Immigration On The Us Economy
The number of immigrants entering the United States legally is greater today than it was at the
turn of the century, so as the US economy. US economy has proved to be raised dramatically in the
past few years. This made me think about Immigration and the US economy on a same page in my
mind. Many questions started populating in my head such as Does immigrationin some way affect
the US economy? If yes, how? After doing some research, I found that Immigration plays an
important role in the US economy. I ll start with my own background, how this question is
connected to me and what other people think about immigration. Next, I ll talk about my research
findings and the unexpected answers I got to my question. Are those answers same as people s
view. As a final point, I ll talk about what I learned in the process of researching the impact of
immigration on the US economy before concluding my essay.
Background:

Presently, when we talk about immigrants, the few things that comes in our mind are terrorism,

Driving Prosability
With the U.S. having the second largest passenger car market in the world, a total of 6,872,729
cars sold in 2016(OICA, 2017), it is no wonder that we rank 19th worst on the traffic index. The
countries that rank the best on the index are all from europe(Numbeo,2017). So what is it that
europe is getting correct about traffic? It boils down to 3 major items, roundabouts and sharedspaces,
strict following to regulation and, public roads without speed limits.
The implementation of all these solutions would have to start at a basic level, the driver. Obtaining

We already have speed limits, a requirement for the use of a turn signal, and by Florida law the
far left lane should only be utilized for overtaking(Fl DOT, 2017). From their the enforcement
would become strict and the speed limits of roads, that were determined to be safe, could increase
or be unrestricted.
As previously stated, typically, most europeans follow the law closely. The laws of the Autobahn
are not as free as many Americans think. First of all, the Autobahn is every highway in Germany,
and not all of them are unrestricted in regard to speed. The majority of the Autobahn follows a
speed limit between 100 and 120 kilometer per hour (approximately 60 75 mile per hour)(BASt,
2015). One of the unique aspects of the unrestricted sections are advisory speed limits and
temporary speed limits. Temporary speed limits are an ideal that many other countries should adopt.
In essence when the posted speed limit does not apply to the current conditions of the road, the
government can change it. An example of a temporary speed limit in use would be unfavorable
weather conditions such as snow, ice or rain on the road. These reduce the allowed speed of
drivers to keep them safe. Another example is during road work or construction the speed limit can
be lowered to keep workers on the road safer. Sections of road with adjustable speed limits make
sure that drivers do not exceed what is safe in bad condition but also doesn t hold people back in

Toni Morrison s novel, The Bluest Eye, presents the lives of several impoverished black families in
the 1940 s in a rather unconventional and painful manner. Ms. Morrison leads the reader through

One of the most striking images is the description of Cholly Breedlove s is his memory of a
picnic where a family is enjoying a watermelon which the father smashes against a rock. Cholly
is impressed with the image of the father holding the melon high above his head like the devil
holding the earth up, ready to smash it. quot;He never felt anything thinking about God, hut just
the idea of the devil excited him. And now, the strong black devil was blotting out the sun and

life. He is attracted to the idea of power, strength and excitement and as a strong black adult,
Cholly feels his freedom and uses it against himself and his family.
Another powerful incident, Cholly s first sexual experience, gives insight into the rage, confusion
and tenderness he feels towards women in his adult life. The narrator describes the incident with
Darlene and the white men through Cholly s eyes. The reader understands the initial excitement of
young sexual energy, and the later humiliation of being caught by the cruel white men. Cholly

Power In Frankenstein
Is the Quest for Power Worth the Journey? Historian John Dalberg Acton once said, absolute power
corrupts absolutely (Figgins). This phenomenon is found in the novels Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde, and Twilight. In each of these works a protagonist is struggling with an antagonist, in
some cases an external foe, in others, himself. Dr. Jekyll, Carlisle and Dr. Frankensteinare each
struggling with the power they acquired as a result knowledge they obtained. While knowledge
is an essential trait most human beings search for, across these three novels it seems that the
three protagonists become progressively more corrupt with the knowledge they have achieved.
In Stephanie Myer s Twilight, the audience is quickly introduced to Dr. Carlisle Cullen, a
vampire who creates a family for himself by using vampirism. Myer leaves the reader
questioning if Carlisle abuses his power and knowledge to create his family out of loneliness.
When Dr. Cullen first turns into a vampire, centuries before the events of the book, he felt
desperately alone. The reader learns, he dreamed of finding others like himself. He was very lonely,

Without their contributions towards idea of reformation, what people see today could be a lot
different. However, it was not just those two men who gave birth to a new age of reasoning and
thought. Men such as Petrarch founded a completely different school of thought than what
Wycliffe and Hus had started with their dissentions. Petrarch delved into the lost classics,
literature of antiquity, and rediscovered many things that were lost when Rome fell in the 5th
century. He is considered the founder of Humanism, a school of thought that allowed for the
return of the pagan classics and the philosophy of secularism. Above all things Humanism is
considered the assertion of a man or woman s personal independence and expression. The idea
that Humanism was one of the major reasons for the causes of the reformation is one that is not
often put forth. However, if Humanism is broken down into its simplest form, it is the idea that a
man can challenge what he sees before him, and indulge in knowledge outside the scripture,
however much John Hus and Wycliffe suffered for the people s right to follow the Scripture.
Because of the beliefs of Petrarch, and his rediscovery of the lost classics, people were able to
gravitate away from the Scripture that had dominated their lives and dictated how they lived their

Personally Responsible, Participatory Citizen, And...
There are three kinds of citizens Personally Responsible, Participatory Citizen, and Justice Oriented
Citizen. Personally responsible citizen is on who donate, obey laws, and are responsible.
Participatory citizen is where the person holds leadership positions in the community, and puts
effort towards making a difference, they understand the governmentagencies and policies. Justice
oriented citizen is the third kind of citizen. This person wants to understand why things are the way
they are. They will do research and get to the bottom of the issue and suggest a ways to improve
that concern.
The article addresses the three kinds of citizenships. The descriptions for each are very similar to
the other article read in class. Participatory citizen is being an active leader and service. Justice
oriented citizen was explained as a good citizen who questions what is going on around them and
why. They approach the systems or issue to face it head on. Searchers from the article stated justice
oriented citizenship that is linked to social action. The article addresses how research can be
unclear, documented, and unrealistic. They reference that people may do these things out of their
heart or just for a an award to themselves. It is important to educate our children to really focus on
the facts, and think outside the box that will impact all of the society in the best possible way.

Huron Community Reflection
I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since.
Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. The quote is by an American
politician by the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs
are, personally this is a mantra I aspire to live by. I want to make a difference in the world, and my
first step out of high school on that path would be at the Centre for Global Studies at Huron
University College. I believe that one of the things that makes Huron special is it s smaller size in
comparison to many other universities. I spent my first three years of high school in a large school
with classes with as many as 35 40 students. It was quite difficult for... Show more content on

A Report On A Virtual Core Network
III. Proposed Applications
The NFV ISG lists various possible scenarios in which NFV may be used in the current network
infrastructure to help organizations reduce capital and operational expenditures and increase
revenue via VNF services. While in theory, every network element can be virtualized, the ISG has
identified specific devices based on feasibility in terms of cost and complexity of implementation.
Mobile Networks: Mobile networks today are dominated by proprietary hardware. Having physical
resource increases expenditure for the operators. Scaling of such resources may require
replacement of hardware. Implementing NFV means that the hardware resource pool can be
efficiently utilized based on demand. A virtualized mobile core network would also help minimize
the signaling traffic on the network by grouping certain network functions together [1]. This paper
will discuss more on a virtual Core network in section IV.
VNF as a Service (VNFaaS): Many Enterprises have an infrastructure network of their own. Such a
network puts added expenditure on enterprises to have a dedicated team of professionals to
maintain and service this network. Also having equipment on their premises increases capital costs
and operational costs such as energy. The ISG use cases [10] proposes to provide these enterprise
infrastructure equipment as a virtual service hosted at the operator end. From the enterprise
perspective it will be profitable for them to outsource this functionality and have

The Debate Of Wisdom Literature
Introduction
Wisdom literature has long been part of the Jewish tradition with a large section of the Old
Testament devoting itself to it. Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the
Wisdom Psalms make up this literature. Job, dates from the tenth century B,C and has a
philosophical and theological reflection on why the righteous suffer. The suggestion is that this is
an orderly made cosmos and ultimately all injustices will be turned to good. Proverbs, written in its
final form in the third century B.C. is a collection of aphorisms and poems within the relationship
between wisdom, righteousness and religious devotion. In tone and form wisdom literature differs
from divine revelation and is grounded in observation of and human reflection upon experience.
Furthermore, unlike the laws of the Pentateuch, which were proposed in coming from God, and
unlike the prophets, who claim to speak the word of the Lord , on God s behalf, wisdom does not
purport to be truth (Borg: 2001:148). The conventional world view of some wisdom writings is that
righteousness leads to an ordered universe.
Wisdom literature comes in two major categories: Proverbial wisdom consisting of short, succinct
sayings which provide basic rules for personal happiness and welfare. The book of Proverbs is a
classic example of this within Holy Scripture. Speculative wisdom consists of monologues (e.g.
Ecclesiastes) or dialogues (e.g. Job). This form of wisdom literature is practical and

Using Semantic Interference Effect On Comprehension And...
Rationale Being able to understand language and speak is quick and simple, however some slip ups
can occur in our language system in normal processes. This usually happens in comprehension and
production, where some errors are semantically linked to the intended word you d want to say, such
as saying or understanding cat when what you intentionally wanted to say was dog This type of
semantic interference effect would suggest that the processing stage that s involved in
comprehension and language production can overlap to a certain extent. In spite of there being
similarities in semantic interferences in word picture matching and picture naming tasks, the main
point of the interferences shows attributes to the semantic language system, in word picture
matching and the lexical language system in naming. Even though both of these tasks associate
with the approach to the shared semantic representation, the degree of where one of the interference
arises is still to be made clear, reason being is that the effects are usually measure alone. This is why
I shall be investigating these interferences. For the word picture matching task the confirmation
from other researches conducted have shown that the interferences emerges with the actual
semantic system (Warrington and McCarthy, 1983, 1987; Warrington and Cipolotti, 1996; Forde
and Humphreys, 1997, 2007; Gotts and Plaut, 2002; Campanella and Shallice, 2011). However for

Self-Targeting Sniper Rifle
At this years Black Hat hacker conference, security researchers, Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger,
will demonstrate how they are able to exploit the vulnerabilities of a self targeting sniper rifle to
change the scope s variables when planning out a shot, and even bricking the rifle altogether.
Sandvik and Auger Plan to Hack a Pair of $13,000 TrackingPoint Rifles
Sandvik and Auger are a married hacker couple and have spent a year researching a way to hack
into these smart rifles. The techniques allow a knowledgeable hacker to exploit its sight through Wi
Fi.
Once the rifle has been infected, a hacker can then use software to manipulate a scope s
calculations, disable the scope completely, or just prevent the gun from firing entirely. In a... Show

An attacker can lock a user out, preventing them from using the gun, or completely erase the gun s
file system. This would essentially render the scope useless, leaving the shooter to have to aim
manually.
The file system in TrackingPoint s self aiming system is a vital part of the scope. The system
allows a shooter to designate a target, which tells the computer to begin dialing in variables needed
to make an accurate shot. It s important to note that the gun will not fire until the shooter has pulled
the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the gun will then determine when the best time to fire is and
take the shot when the barrel is perfectly aligned.
TrackingPoint Are Already Working on an Upcoming Patch to Address the Exploit
Fortunately, Sandvik and Auger are working together with TrackingPoint in order to develop a
software patch that will quickly address the smart rifle s severe vulnerability. While it s not ready
yet, TrackingPoint founder, John McHale, said the company would be mailing out a USB drive to
customers in order to update their rifles as soon as

Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott was a nineteenth century American author who wrote short stories, novels, and
poems. She was a feminist pioneer who believed in the rights for women. She made it clear

The Challenges Of Global Citizenship
Global Citizenship Global citizenship comes with certain rights and responsibilities that govern
being a citizen of a nation and the global entity as a whole. Globalization and the advanced
technology have enabled increased connections and integration across the world. As global
citizens, the choices and actions that persons undertake have consequences that may impact
people and societies on the local level, nationally and internationally. Global citizenship during
this period of major technological advancement is very beneficial to the development of personal
goals. People are able to understand emotions and develop sensitivity to unravel the world which
helps in gaining different perspectives. This enables understanding of each other which fosters
transparency and interdependency that helps people live with each other despite existing
differences. The current situation is a far cry from what went on in the past with conflicts and
clashes brought about by differences in ideologies. Nowadays, people can enhance their personal,
academic and professional goals because as global citizens, we have been able to develop our
identities which has put emphasis on concept of emotion and grasping of the world. Globalization
has brought diversity and eliminated individualism and alienation. People are able to see value of
differences among others, deal with cultural diversity and therefore live, work and study in different
places without issues (InfoBase, 2017). The concept of

in Dada world Höch has cut out her head and put in top of a map of Europe where several

Hausmann s ABCD has a much more personal theme that details many of his relationships with
fellow artists in Dada as well as his own artworks. Also the general look of ABCD differs from

The Revealed Preference Theory Approach To Consumer Behavior
3. Revealed Preference Theory 3.1 IntroductionMr. Paul Samuelson introduced the Revealed
Preference Theory to explain the consumer behavior. It is a method of analyzing choices of
consumers, mostly used for comparing the influence of policies on consumer behavior. The
preferences of consumers can be revealed by their purchasing habits. Revealed preference theory
emerged because existing theories of consumer demand were based on a diminishing marginal rate
of substitution (MRS). This diminishing MRS relied on the assumption that consumers always
decide to maximize their utility. While utility maximization was not a controversial assumption, the
underlying utility functions could not be measured with great certainty. Revealed preference theory

Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies
Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms.
Some argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its
purity and ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the
Suffocation of the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden
contends that women are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil
spirits. On the other hand, Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of
Lincoln s Nursery, that a womanshould be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing
her own child. These discourses of the femalebody continued to conflict and show themselves in
numerous pieces of literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially.
Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this
period. As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s
reign in 1603, one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced
during this time. Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some
English subjects still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal
system. They believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign
level due to the weakness of the female body. However, there

The United States Bureau Of Land Management
1 The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has stepped in to provide restorative practices upon
500,000 acres of heavily degraded public grasslands. This land is suffering from severe soil
erosion as well as degradation due to overgrazing. The suppression of natural fires has caused
shrubs and invasive weeds to encroach upon the grasslands. A full scale assessment will take place
on this land before restoration efforts begin. The first thing that would need to be assessed is the soil
, for it is eroding and holding little nutrient value. Samples would be taken of this soil from
various parts of the grasslands including the eroded gullies. Each soil sample would be taken
from at least 1 foot below the surface, to test for carbon richness below the topsoil. These would
then be tested for texture, density, water retention, and chemical composition. Typically, powerful,
healthy soil will contain amounts of both Nitrogen and Phosphorous, which are essential nutrients
in sustainable plant growth. These samples would also be tested for any build up of salts,
something known as soil salinization. Unhealthy, salinized soil is created over years of over
hydrating and deep plowing. Excess water will suffocate root systems of once healthy crops, and
salinized soils will reduce crop output up to 20% (Withgott Brennan, 2011). The next assessment
would be in the shrubs and invasive weed species on the land. Knowing the volume and location of
these plants gives way to a better understanding of

Theme Of Classism In Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, is a movie about the story of Jamal Malik, an
18 year old orphan, and his underdog performance on India s version of the show Who Wants to
be a Millionaire? . Jamal goes all the way, winning 20 million rupees (the currency of India).
After the end of the first night, Jamal gets arrested and accused of cheating. While in the police
station, he is brutally beaten and heavily interrogated as to how he, a slumdog (a child who was
raised in the slums), knows all of the answers. Trying to prove his innocence, he reflects back on
his harsh childhood. He proclaims that the reasoning for him knowing all of the answers is
because of all of the rough experiences he had as a child. The movie flashes back to the moments
in which he learned the answers. Severe poverty, underdevelopment, starvation, violence, and
dirtiness are clearly portrayed in the rugged slums of Mumbai during these flashbacks. The other
side is shown, too, with Javed, who is a slumlord and lives in a massive, guarded mansion.
Classism is the reason for both sides of the spectrum. Slumdog Millionaire portrays the high power
society and extreme classism in India and the oppression and discriminationthat derives from it.
Classism is one of the most prominent issues portrayed within Slumdog Millionaire. According to
Merriam Webster, a simple definition of classism is prejudice or discrimination based on class .
Classism is very prominent and extreme in India, and it

  • 3. Organizational Changes Essay Organizational Changes Organizational changes take place when the force field that counterbalances change is overcome. Different power base utilization facilitates these types of changes. Change could be a topic in and by itself but we have chosen to incorporate the use of different power bases and their effects on change. Power, in organizational change, is having the potential ability to influence behavior, to change the course of events, to overcome resistance, and to get people to do things that they would not otherwise do.(1) Understanding when to use a particular type of power base can ease the... After the thawing the efforts put forth occur in the changing stage. The changing stage was further broken down after the initial introduction of the three stages; commonly referred to as the eight stage model when the additional steps are included. After the changes are implemented it has to be institutionalized into the culture to prevent regression into the old ways. Since this model was covered in the text, I will generalize the other models and then integrate the power bases into a few of them. Lewin s Change Model.gif (6660 bytes) The Gap Model (3) is used when a clear mental picture exists of what is desired to happen. It has two stages: one is the present state and the second is the future desired state. The strategy that is to be determined to attain the future state is laid out with the understanding that resistance will be encountered. If the change is to be implemented with minimal resistance then the coercive power, information power, and expert power bases are best. • 4. The World Of The Classical Solar System Last July, NASA s New Horizons spacecraft flew by Pluto, the last unvisited world of the classical solar system. As the largest known member of the Kuiper belt, Pluto is also the gateway to a new frontier, a scarcely studied collection of primordial icy bodies far from the sun that constitutes the third zone of the solar system after the realms of the inner rocky planets and the outer gas giants. Like most first glimpses of new frontiers, Pluto held so many surprises for New Horizons that the past eight months have seen a steady stream of discoveries coming from the mission, as the spacecraft s small radio transmitter beams its gathered data back home. The biggest surprises have been Pluto s surface and atmosphere, which are restlessly active and diverse despite average temperatures of only tens of degrees above absolute zero. Some scientists expected New Horizons would find Pluto to be little more than an inert, sunlight starved orb. Instead, the spacecraft encountered a world where nitrogen glaciers flow down into plains of frozen methane from towering mountains of water ice. Sunless half frozen oceans lurk deep beneath the surface, and multiple moons tumble overhead through hydrocarbon hazed red skies that tinge to blue at sunrise and sunset. But beyond celebrating the visceral thrill of the Pluto flyby itself, or the intellectual frisson of gazing on full color close ups of a place so alien and faraway, most of these discoveries from New Horizons have so far found a ... • 5. Ode On A Grecian Urn By John Keats Liana Frauenberger Professor Chan ENG 114 25 September 2017 How Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn Reflects His Feelings and Beliefs Upon reading Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats, one may notice his references to the religions and customs of ancient Greek culture, and be able to contrast these observations to those he has made about other religions. The speaker studies the urn, and sees drawings of people partaking in activities and even dealing with personal struggles. An academic journal titled, Just Beauty: Ovid and the Argument of Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn gives more information in regard to Keats s observations. Arnd Bohm, the author of this article, tells of religious processes mentioned by Keats in both Ode on a Grecian Urn and one of his earlier works titled Written in Disgust of Vulgar Superstition. In these works, Keats references two different religions and different customs being practiced. In Ode on a Grecian Urn, ideas of beauty and love are also referenced heavily. According to the speaker s observations, the Grecian urn seems to be not only beautiful and lyrical, but also has timelessness on its side; while such qualities are not mentioned about other religions and customs. Bohm states that Keats struggled to accept the teachings of Christianity and saw a potential for nature to serve such a purpose while writing Written in Disgust of Vulgar Superstition. (Bohm 3). In this sonnet, Keats writes: Some other gloominess, more dreadful cares, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soccer will help others in ways that other sports can t necessarily do. Soccer is not only an engaging sport, but it also gives you physical and mental benefits. Much associate soccer with English history, but actually it all started in the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty started the roots of the game by filling leather balls with feathers and hair, and in which they had to kick the ball through a small opening. It isn t as easy as many would think because you aren t allowed to use your hands, so in other words, you can use everything else. This new and important change would help let all players feel like they are part of the team. Most notably, he wanted a referee that would be much stricter, so the king wouldn t ban the game for being too violent again. Richard Mulcaster changed the basics of the game, so it would be more beneficial for people to play. The major changes of the game though came around the beginning of the 19th century. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets Analysis Luc Beeson s massive $180 million science fiction spectacle, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, inspired from the favorite comics of his youth, is a gorgeous looking, borderline disaster of a film. At times, the film feels epic, clever, and original. In other moments, especially in the films final 30 minutes, everything devolves into laugh out loud ridiculousness and cringe worthy acting and writing. Though never boring, even at 140 minutes on screen, whether dazzling to witness or stiltedly awful to endure, you simply never know what is coming next. The Reasons for Growth of Rapid Population between Seventeenth and Nineteenth Century Britain A wide variety of people living in the world have always been exposed at constant change and the evolution in population has always been a concern and issue by regimes and countries through out time, especially if it occurred within such short period of time. British economy and Europe underwent their greatest population transformation between the late 17th and the late 19th century. Despite these difficulties, the Cambridge Group s leading members, Tony Wrigley and Roger Schofield have discerned a rise in the rate of English population increase in the second half of the eighteenth century and have emphasized fertility is the key mechanisms of population growth. The major reason for the growth of population in eighteenth century England can be accredited to a fall in mortality, which was particularly marked during the first half of the eighteenth century. The fall affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in mortality in the first half of the century. Revolutions are generally linked with upheaval in society, transforming a nation and its people. British agricultural revolution was the unprecedented increase in agricultural production in England due to increases in labour and land productivity that took place between 1750 and 1850. Bleaching turns the host coral white, as the skeleton becomes visible through the coral s transparent tissue. Bleached corals can survive without their counterparts for weeks or months. However, as this symbiosis is vital for reef building, the absence of it significantly reduces coral growth and reproductive ability, eventually leading to reef mortality. (Knowlton, 2001) Causes of Coral Bleaching Coral reefs have suffered degradation due to anthropogenic activities for decades. The direct and indirect effects of overfishing and pollution from agriculture and land development have been the major drivers of coral reef decline over the past two centuries. More importantly, these threats to coral reefs have been compounded and exacerbated by superimposed impacts of global climate change, such as rising sea temperature and level, and increased ocean acidification. (T. P. Hughes, 2003) Coral reefs are found in coastal tropical environments, typically between latitudes 25oS and 25oN, and can tolerate water temperatures ranging from 18oC to 30oC. Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the plays to see if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina because it was about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The playis set in the early 1960s when men would go to the Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape being men. Seeing the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has always been a source of comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was also a huge success, being nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other awards. With this in mind, I thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwrightwas trying to say about life is that everyone is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my identity? To what are the differences in genderidentity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some fascinating questions about these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in matrimony when one of the partners begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It brings out the central conflict of illusion versus reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown adult men, married with a spouse of the opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this, ... This just simply is not true. Dickens uses capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and the opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature of humankind. Just as with the Aristocrats, Dickens does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain is apparent in his tone; which gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of the prisoners is fair. Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the popular attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior. Dickens articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the sign of the regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). Hereditary Spastic Paraplegias ( Hsps ) Introduction 1.1Hereditary spastic paraplegias Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders that share the primary feature of progressive lower limb spasticity and weakness, with sparing of the upper extremities (Blackstone et al., 2010). Although few epidemiological studies have been carried out, the prevalence of HSPs has been estimated to range from ~3 9 per 100,000 and the age of onset can vary widely, from early childhood to late in life (Salinas et al., 2008). The HSPs are classified according to the mode of inheritance (autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and X linked) and whether progressive spasticity occurs in isolation (uncomplicated HSP) or is accompanied by additional clinical features such as ataxia, seizures, cognitive impairment and peripheral neuropathy (complicated HSP) (Fink, 2013). The common pathological feature of HSP includes distal axonal degeneration, which is most severe in the terminal ends of fibers within the cortico spinal tract (figure 1.1) (Blackstone, 2012 and Noreau et al., 2014). The cortico spinal tract is the main pathway involved in voluntary movement in which neurons originating within the cerebral motor cortex travel relatively long distances to make synaptic connections with lower motor neurons terminating in skeletal muscle (Blackstone et al., 2010). Axons within the cortico spinal tract are therefore some of the longest motor neurons within the body, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In spite of recent advances in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development of prostate cancer, the survival rate of men with this disease has remained relatively unchanged in over the decades. Since the Nobel prize winning discovery by Dr. Huggins and Dr. Hodges (Huggins C., 1941) androgen deprivation therapy is being used by over a half of a century as a primary treatment for advanced prostate cancer. • 30. History Of The Steam Engine During the early 1770s James Watt, a British inventor, made changes to the existing steam engine by creating an engine that was not water powered. Watt hoped that the steam engine would be four times as powerful as earlier models, allowing factories to work more efficiently. Using the steam engine, Robert Fulton and George Stephenson made different modes of transportation for people and cargo. Fulton created the first steam powered boat that took people and cargo along the Hudson river. Similarly, Stephenson constructed a locomotive that carried large hauls over large distances. An eyewitness from the event, 10 years ago, said, The steam engine that Watt has come up with is not only extremely efficient, but has also created an influx of jobs in the manufacturing industry . Urban cities created centers that offered a leisure time for those who were living in the city hoping to ease the stress of the worker class. Skeptics point to the fact that although leisure time was implemented, there were also problems with the new steam engine as well as population growth. Builders were sometimes unable to build houses fast enough to accommodate the incoming peoples and factories run by steam engines caused pollution. Critics further state that this made living conditions horrifying and made for more dangerous workplaces. In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its own first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also significant to mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems that deal with them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse disorder (6% for alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic diseases in the United States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to government systems and taxpayers as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion annually: $224 billion for alcohol ($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11 billion in health care) (Compton and Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or craving), and [interruption of] life activities [which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug using, and recovering from the effects of use (Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain which can induce, pleasurable feelings and, very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it can transition into a habit and create a dependency on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to depression, those who suffer from substance abuse disorders also have a variety of treatment options. In essence when the posted speed limit does not apply to the current conditions of the road, the government can change it. An example of a temporary speed limit in use would be unfavorable weather conditions such as snow, ice or rain on the road. These reduce the allowed speed of drivers to keep them safe. Mobile Networks: Mobile networks today are dominated by proprietary hardware. Having physical resource increases expenditure for the operators. Scaling of such resources may require replacement of hardware. Implementing NFV means that the hardware resource pool can be efficiently utilized based on demand. Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the Wisdom Psalms make up this literature. Job, dates from the tenth century B,C and has a philosophical and theological reflection on why the righteous suffer. The suggestion is that this is an orderly made cosmos and ultimately all injustices will be turned to good. Proverbs, written in its final form in the third century B.C. is a collection of aphorisms and poems within the relationship between wisdom, righteousness and religious devotion. In tone and form wisdom literature differs from divine revelation and is grounded in observation of and human reflection upon experience. Furthermore, unlike the laws of the Pentateuch, which were proposed in coming from God, and unlike the prophets, who claim to speak the word of the Lord , on God s behalf, wisdom does not purport to be truth (Borg: 2001:148). The conventional world view of some wisdom writings is that righteousness leads to an ordered universe. Wisdom literature comes in two major categories: Proverbial wisdom consisting of short, succinct sayings which provide basic rules for personal happiness and welfare. The book of Proverbs is a classic example of this within Holy Scripture. Speculative wisdom consists of monologues (e.g. Ecclesiastes) or dialogues (e.g. Job). In spite of there being similarities in semantic interferences in word picture matching and picture naming tasks, the main point of the interferences shows attributes to the semantic language system, in word picture matching and the lexical language system in naming. Even though both of these tasks associate with the approach to the shared semantic representation, the degree of where one of the interference arises is still to be made clear, reason being is that the effects are usually measure alone. HГ¶ch s piece is a lot more cluttered with images and tries to encompass the whole idea of Dada. her piece is much more political than Hausmann s piece and has feministic theme through out the entirety of her artwork s composition. In the center of her collage she has the head of KГ¤the Kollwitz, radical antiwar artist, above the dancing ballerina.(2a) Also in the bottom right corner in Dada world HГ¶ch has cut out her head and put in top of a map of Europe where several countries are colored in black, representing the countries where women still couldn t vote. Hausmann s ABCD has a much more personal theme that details many of his relationships with fellow artists in Dada as well as his own artworks. Also the general look of ABCD differs from HГ¶ch s piece because it looks more fragmented in how the photos and items are assembled. None of Hausmann s items seem to belong to a particular space where as HГ¶ch s photos all corroborate with each other in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Revealed Preference Theory Approach To Consumer Behavior 3. Revealed Preference Theory 3.1 IntroductionMr. Paul Samuelson introduced the Revealed Preference Theory to explain the consumer behavior. It is a method of analyzing choices of consumers, mostly used for comparing the influence of policies on consumer behavior. The preferences of consumers can be revealed by their purchasing habits. Revealed preference theory emerged because existing theories of consumer demand were based on a diminishing marginal rate of substitution (MRS). This diminishing MRS relied on the assumption that consumers always decide to maximize their utility. While utility maximization was not a controversial assumption, the underlying utility functions could not be measured with great certainty. Revealed preference theory ... It is based on the law that +ve income elasticity implies ve price elasticity. Because, the price effect consists of the income substitution effects, it is not possible to ostracize the substitution effect from the income effect on the level of observation. If the income effect is not positive, then the price elasticity of demand is indeterminate. On the other part, if the income elasticity of demand is positive, the substitution effect due to a change in price cannot be established. Thus, the substitution effect cannot be made different from the income effect in the Samuelson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms. Some argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its purity and ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the Suffocation of the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden contends that women are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil spirits. On the other hand, Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of Lincoln s Nursery, that a womanshould be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing her own child. These discourses of the femalebody continued to conflict and show themselves in numerous pieces of literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially. Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this period. As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s reign in 1603, one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced during this time. Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some English subjects still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal system. They believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign level due to the weakness of the female body. However, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. The United States Bureau Of Land Management 1 The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has stepped in to provide restorative practices upon 500,000 acres of heavily degraded public grasslands. This land is suffering from severe soil erosion as well as degradation due to overgrazing. The suppression of natural fires has caused shrubs and invasive weeds to encroach upon the grasslands. A full scale assessment will take place on this land before restoration efforts begin. The first thing that would need to be assessed is the soil , for it is eroding and holding little nutrient value. Samples would be taken of this soil from various parts of the grasslands including the eroded gullies. Each soil sample would be taken from at least 1 foot below the surface, to test for carbon richness below the topsoil. These would then be tested for texture, density, water retention, and chemical composition. Typically, powerful, healthy soil will contain amounts of both Nitrogen and Phosphorous, which are essential nutrients in sustainable plant growth. These samples would also be tested for any build up of salts, something known as soil salinization. Unhealthy, salinized soil is created over years of over hydrating and deep plowing. Excess water will suffocate root systems of once healthy crops, and salinized soils will reduce crop output up to 20% (Withgott Brennan, 2011). The next assessment would be in the shrubs and invasive weed species on the land. Knowing the volume and location of these plants gives way to a better understanding of ... • 54. Theme Of Classism In Slumdog Millionaire Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, is a movie about the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan, and his underdog performance on India s version of the show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? . Jamal goes all the way, winning 20 million rupees (the currency of India). After the end of the first night, Jamal gets arrested and accused of cheating. While in the police station, he is brutally beaten and heavily interrogated as to how he, a slumdog (a child who was raised in the slums), knows all of the answers. Trying to prove his innocence, he reflects back on his harsh childhood. He proclaims that the reasoning for him knowing all of the answers is because of all of the rough experiences he had as a child. The movie flashes back to the moments in which he learned the answers. Severe poverty, underdevelopment, starvation, violence, and dirtiness are clearly portrayed in the rugged slums of Mumbai during these flashbacks. The other side is shown, too, with Javed, who is a slumlord and lives in a massive, guarded mansion. Classism is the reason for both sides of the spectrum. Slumdog Millionaire portrays the high power society and extreme classism in India and the oppression and discriminationthat derives from it. Classism is one of the most prominent issues portrayed within Slumdog Millionaire. According to Merriam Webster, a simple definition of classism is prejudice or discrimination based on class .
