`` Blue Moon Of Kentucky ``
From an American perspective, the color blue symbolizes and represents a multitude of social and
iconic aspects identified as uniquely Kentuckian. The Bluegrass State stands as one of the most
recognizable state monikers across the country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz recorded by
both Bluegrass musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis Presley), and chants of
Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of Kentucky s athletic
programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century movement toward a more
popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary
Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue
and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic support for
those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore
Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full
history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the
South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any
other state... (who could) overflow from their mountains and re enforce the nation.
Historians have produced numerous scholarly accounts about the American Civil War. These efforts

Medical Physics Personal Statement
At a time when it was popular practice for kids growing up in my country to aspire to become doctors,
lawyers and engineers, for no rational reasons owing to naiveté that comes with such tender ages, I
had known I wanted to save lives. I just didn t know in what capacity it would be. I can safely say that
I grew up faster than most children my age, I had known what it meant to lose a father at six, I had
seen an aunt die of what they said was cancer at ten. I had also known the frustration of not being able
to do anything to save both. And of course, I couldn t have. I am a grown man now, equipped with the
rationality that comes with education, and most importantly the informed will to save the world. And I
have found an important tool in Medical Physics.
Early in life, I developed an aversion for linearity of mind. As I grew to grasp the concepts of Physics,
Chemistry and Biology, I discovered what I call the harmony of science. I realized that scientific
problems were best solved via a holistic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

clean water could be of serious health significance. It made me conclude that clean water, although
odorless, colorless and tasteless, is not necessary healthy water. As I yearned for a deeper

Object Oriented Database
Introduction
Choosing the right OODB architecture can mean orders of magnitude difference in performance and
scalability characteristics rather than a few percentage points as found in relational implementations.
To achieve maximum performance and scalability the most important thing is choosing the right
application architecture. OODBs give applications much more direct access to the persistent data, so
application architecture has much more impact on performance than is the case with an RDB. Or to
put it another way, when using an
OODB the application architect has much more power to optimize performance than when using an
RDB. Consequently the application architecture has more effect on performance and scalability than
the choice of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, a database system contains the five following features:
Persistence
As in a conventional database, data must remain after the process that created it has terminated. For
this purpose data has to be stored permanently on secondary storage.
Secondary Storage Management
Traditional databases employ techniques, which manage secondary storage in order to improve the
performance of the system. These are usually invisible to the user of the system.
Concurrency
The system should provide a concurrency mechanism, which is similar to the concurrency
mechanisms in conventional databases.
Recovery
The system should provide a recovery mechanism similar to recovery mechanisms in conventional
databases.
Ad hoc query facility
The database should provide a high level, efficient, application independent query facility. This needs
not necessarily be a query language but could instead, be some type of graphical interface.
The above criteria are perhaps the most complete attempt so far to define the features of an object
oriented database in 1989. Further attempts to define an OODBS standard were made variables of
researchers. One of them is a group called Object Data Management Group (ODMG). They have
worked on an OODBS standard for the industry. The recent release is ODMG 2 in1997.

Analysis Of The Mccord Museum Of Canadian History
Canada is a multicultural nation whose population was vastly built through the immigration of peoples
from around the world. The McCord Museum of Canadian History explores Canada s
multiculturalism through several exhibits. The museum was brought to life by David Ross McCord
who wished to shed light on the history and cultures of his country and thus bring its people together.
The Museum features several exhibits which are physically available at the museum, and some of
which are available online. One of the online exhibits entitled Being Irish O Quebec explores the
impact in which Irish culture has had on the province of Quebec from past to present. Many years ago,
Irish people departed from their home country to escape difficult times and find a bright future in
Canada. Many of the Irish immigrants settled into the colony of New France, which is now known as
the Canadian province Quebec. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit at McCord Museum pushes the
idea that the Irish are one of the most significant ethnic groups in Quebec, both in the way of numbers
and historical impact. The Exhibit depicts Irish immigration to Quebec using artifacts and images.
These artifacts and images as well as the information that comes along with them demonstrate the
struggles and successes of the Irish peoples at this time. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit s main
argument is that the Irish had a major contribution to Quebec s identity as a province. The Exhibit
claims that the Irish are

Conservatism In Strictly Ballroom
A life lived in fear is a life half lived . Discuss how this notion is explored in Strictly Ballroom.
Establishing Baz Luhrmann s acclaimed Red Curtain trilogy, Strictly Ballroom explores the notion
that a life lived in fear is a life half lived, through his effective use of characterisation, setting,
symbolism and cinematography. The coming of age piece follows two ballroom dancers through their
battle against conventionality, during the height of the rigorous 1980 s Australian dance culture.
Furthermore, an emphasis on exaggeration is portrayed within the film to exemplify the notion of
regret, which directs viewers into an animated like perception of theatre, as urged by Luhrmann.

Due to fear of confrontation, Doug Hastings is portrayed as submissive, through the depiction of
power and domination imposed by both his wife and Barry Fife. Doug lives his life in the shadows
and is treated with an element of disdain by both his family and the dancing fraternity. It becomes
apparent to the audience that Doug has a point to make to Scott: Son, can I bend your ear for a tick.
Ultimately, Doug embodies the notion of living a life in fear: We had the chance but we were scared.
We walked away... In addition, towards the conclusion of the film when Doug explains the truth about
his dance past to Scott, a point of view shot is employed by Luhrmann to demonstrate the action from
Doug s point of view. This is achieved specifically as he looks around him before jumping off the
stage. Furthermore, Doug s newfound courage is apparent in line shall we dance? directed at his wife.
He is finally standing up to Barry Fife, and joining his son in the rebellion of the dance academy. The
depiction of Doug joining Scott in the defiance of the traditional dance federation rules, conveys the

Guilt In Maus
How are the different characters in Maus affected by guilt? Discuss with reference to the text.
In the World of Maus, we see the types of guilt different characters experience throughout the graphic
novel. In many ways the relationship between Vladek and Art is the central topic of the book, and this
narrative deals extensively with feelings of guilt. Whether that is the impact on Art from Anja s death,
or the guilt Vladek felt as a survivor. Maus revolves around this relationship between past and present,
and the intergenerational effects of past events on Art Spiegelman. Art is living in the shadow of a
holocaust survivor never truly understanding.

something that can never leave Art. As well as this Artie could not help feeling responsible for her
actions. Art felt responsible for anything bad that happened to his father and that is why he was so
worried when Vladek read the comic after many years. For a very long time Artie did not know what

Powerful Regional Differences
National Unity or Powerful Regional Differences Since the Civil War, the United States has undergone
many changes in the people s attitude towards each other and the government. I believe that the
United States has gone through both national unity and powerful regional differences since the Civil
War ended in 1865. The national unity of the nation took awhile to come together, and it started with
the Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights movement started to make the american people come
together and fight for a single thought or idea. Martin Luther King Jr. was the idealized figure behind
this movement. He wanted blacks to have equal rights as whites, and he made sure everyone knew
that. He gave speeches, held rallies, and protested companies

Informative Speech About Wine
Benefits of Wine Aeration
Hello everyone! I m excited to be speaking to you today about my absolute favorite alcoholic
beverage... red wine! I m here to share information about some of the unknown benefits of wine
aeration. Aerating certain varietals of red wine reduces ethanol and sulfite content, helps to remove
sediment, and enhances flavor profile, texture, and aromas (Smith, 2015). I have drink many, many
bottles of red wine, and there are significant differences to aerated wine. Aerated wine has a softer
mouthfeel, as well as an overall better taste. So, today I will be explaining the process of aeration, the
varietals of wine that should or should not be aerated, and the assortment of wine aerators available on
the market. Now, some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, there is the decanter, a vase shaped glass container. This is the most common type of aerator and
requires minimal effort, simply pour the wine into the decanter and wait about 30 minutes for the wine
to reach full potential. Decanters also inhibit sediment from being poured into the glass. Next, there
are aerating wine glasses, which have a rib like protrusion that creates friction when swirling, causing
air bubbles to form. Finally, there are a variety of electric and manual aerators, that can be handheld or
attached to the wine glass or bottle for instant

Nisei Daughter by Monica Sone Essay
Nisei Daughter, by Monica Sone
Even with all the mental anguish and struggle, an elemental instinct bound us to this soil. Here we
were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes for
democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key to
understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one perspective, this
novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in which she
constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct differences and
tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be seen as an attempt to
describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her novel, Monica describes events and experiences, which reveal her character and
personality. However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is
overlooked.
I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American
community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There was
also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of Japanese
Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan, were
generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with
traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese
customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly, the
Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong ties
amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which enhanced
their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of peers. They
participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference between the Issei and
Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. They were born here and they held complete
citizenship. This was not true for the Issei. Another factor that separated the

The Crystal Structure of Sphingosine
In the PDBID 3V2Y, the crystal structure of the sphingosine 1 phosphate receptor subtype 1 is fused
to T4 lysozyme. Fusion of the third intracellular loop to the T4 lysozyme rendered soluble crystal
junctions (Rosen H et al, 2013) for the rapidly disintegrating microcrystals (Hanson MA et al, 2012).
Structure elements of S1PR1
The structural observations gained from antagonist preserved structures of Rhodopsin like GPCRs
show that the typical orientation of the seven transmembrane domains have significant overlap. The
minute overlap is produced depending on the helix bundle, tilt and the specific interactions
(hydrophobic and electrostatic). This specific overlap is important for co ordinated signaling by the
different GPCRs (Rosen H et al, 2013).
GPCRs possess an extracellular domain consisting of the N terminus and three extracellular loops.
However, a number of prominent features are associated with the Ligand Binding Pocket in the S1P1
receptor. The extracellular region of S1PR1 is significantly ordered. This is due to the N terminus
comprising a well ordered α helix that projects the top of the receptor. This contributes to binding
interactions and forms a helix cap, which occludes access to the amphipathic binding pocket (Hanson
MA et al, 2012). The three loops, namely, ECL1 amidst helices II and III, ECL2 formed between
helices IV and V and ECL3 in helices VI and VII, also make up the extracellular region. Both ECL1
and ECL2 are tightly packed against the

The Role of Law Enforcement in Curbing Gang Violence
Background: Most research shows that the public believes that law enforcement s major goal in many
urban and suburban areas is to prevent gang activity. Gang activity is certainly not a new
phenomenon, but has been part of human history since Ancient Times (Rome, Greece, the Middle
Ages, etc.). In most countries, gang violence patterns the sociological development of society and the
evolution of criminal activity as criminal activity becomes more sophisticated, so do gang activities.
While most sociological theories tie gang behavior to youth violence, one can trace a number of
changes in gang violence to the way organized crime has evolved in the United States (Franzese, et al.,
2006). At the beginning of the 20th century, for instance, gangs were often based around ethnic
boundaries and confined within ethnic neighborhoods. These early gangs tended to focus on non
violent or human weakness crime (e.g. prostitution, gambling, nontaxable cigarettes and alcohol).
Once gambling because legal in Nevada, much of the organized crime dealing with gambling moved
to Las Vegas, while still retaining some ties to the major metropolitan areas. As tastes changed, so did
the criminological focus of gangs; from liquor to drugs, from drugs to social and political control back
focusing on ethnic boundaries (e.g. Asian, Latino, etc.) (Jackson and McBridge, 2000).
Overview of the Research The research conducted was done between 1990 and 1993 focusing on gang
behavior. The researchers

Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis
Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was
based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American
man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather
shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who
was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional

Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s
different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has
envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to
anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this
way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world
imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else,
I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his
work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you
feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his
Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s
also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t
everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone
come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left

Zen Buddhist Monk Research Paper
The journey of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk is long and difficult. Those who work their way
through the many trials it takes to reach this stature are held to the highest regard. Living a life of
humility as well as living a life of labor, are two of the steps of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk. Both
challenge the body and mind, and help them reach their full potential.
The first aspect of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk is to live a life of humility. The way they teach the
young monks humility is as follows:
While there is no doubt that the chief means of supporting the Zendo life is begging, as was in ancient
days of the Buddha, begging has, besides its economic value, a two fold moral signification: the one is
to teach the beggar humility and the other is to make the donor ... Show more content on

By seeing the world through the eyes of someone who is consider the lowest of the low by society,
they gain humbleness. In addition, the young monks are also taught humility through the food they
consume. Suzuki (2010) writes:
They ask for such as are rejected by the farmers as unfit for the market. When they have enough
collected they pile them on a hand cart which is pulled by them as far as the foot of the hill where the
monastery is situated. After that, the load will be carried on their backs to the kitchen, and then some
will be made ready for immediate consumption while others will be used for pickles or preserved for
winter supply. (p. 26)
They do not get to eat vegetables that are considered cream of the crop, they eat the ones that the
farmers would not sell to paying customers. This aspect teaches them humility by only allowing them
food that may have rotten spots or imperfections. They eat the way the beggars may eat, only taking
what they can find. This again gives the young monks perspective, helping them realize their self is
not as important as they

Cash Flow Analysis For Your Real Estate Career
As you start gathering momentum in your real estate career, you will begin to notice a steady pattern
of cash going in and out of your pocket. This is considered cash flow in the most simplest form. Cash
flow analysis can be as simple or advanced as your needs determine. The investor who has dozens of
property will likely have a much more advanced and complicated cash flow analysis than the investor
who has their first piece of property. What this means for you, is there is no reason to start doing
advanced and complicated analysis. This gives you the ability to start small and simple and work your
way slowly towards the more advanced details that become required later on. This will help make sure
you make good decisions because you are able to learn slowly and steadily what parts of the cash flow
to focus on to maximize profits. Your cash flow analysis should at the very least tell you how much
profit you can make as well as how much it will cost for you to make that profit. The cash flow will
analyze all money that is spent on each property, as well as all sources of income that the property
presents to show hopefully if you selected a good piece of property a positive cash flow. A cash flow
analysis has four basic areas to it to determine profit. The first area is gross income, followed by
expenses, with debt service and cash flow following behind. The first section is gross income; it is
within that section that you will figure out your effective gross income. First,

Today, fifty odd years later, I sit on my porch alone, swinging gently in the morning. I can look out
over the yard. It looks just the same as the place were my most important moment of my life

forest. It s the height of summer right now, so all the trees are full and green. Just like it was then. I
remember the year of 1778. I was in my prime, the my early twenties. The Revolutionary War, my

I still doubt that it will ever change. As a reminder of those friends though, I planted a tree after the
war. It took months to get the seed, but it was important to me. I planted it at the edge of the small

was that during the years after, the old olive tree had died. So now, it sits in the same place as the old
one, maybe not quite as big, but and eternally sufficient reminder. And each day, I sit out on the porch
and listen to the birds in the tree sing, and watch them make their homes there.
Even now, as I sit here and remember this, I m sitting on the same wooden swing I ve sat for years,
looking at that olive tree. It is still the morning, and the birds are singing their waking songs in those
same trees by the olive. And deep in the olive tree, I see a flash of the white feathers It s been so long
since I saw. A flurry arises, and I watch the doves rise back into the sky. Twenty of them rising into ray

New Wave Research Papers
New Wave was a catchall term for new bands in the late 70s and early to mid 80s. Like rock n roll,
there were no rules and it didn t have a distinct sound. It seemed like anything new was considered

With a mix of worldbeat, post punk, art punk and funk, the Talking Heads were one of the most
famous bands to come out of the New York scene of the late 70s. With the awkward David Byrne as
frontman, they were also one of the unlikeliest bands to emerge out of CBGB. Formed in 1975, the
groups first gig was opening for the Ramones at the infamous club. That same year, the band was
signed to Sire Records and began work on their debut, Talking Heads:77 on which Psycho Killer was
found and charted. In 1978, they teamed up with Brian Eno to record More Songs About Buildings
and Food, where they would find even more chart success with a cover of Al Green s Take Me to the
River. Eno s explorations continued on 1979s Fear of Music, which housed the track Life During
Wartime. In 1980, Eno took the band even further into uncharted waters as he introduced them to
afrobeat and world music. The result was Remain in Light on which Once in a Lifetime was found.
Once the Heads released four albums in four years, they put out a live album and toured extensively.
Back in the studio in 1983 the band recorded Speaking in Tongues to critical and commercial praise.
The single Burning Down the House would prove to be the groups only top 10 hit in the states. Three
more studio recordings would follow, but in 1991 the band announced Talking Heads would be parting
ways. While the band did reunite in 1996 to complete an album, Byrne was burnt out and

Another important intervention was to maintain the head of the bed at 30 45 degrees and position L.M.
s left lung into a dependent position to improve ventilation and perfusion. L.M. s O2 was decreased to
63 and her CO2 was increased to 50. According to the IHI, it is recommended to elevate the bed to 30
45 degrees to improve ventilation. Patients that lay in the supine position have lower spontaneous tidal
volumes on pressure support ventilation compared to those laying at more of an angle (Institute for
Healthcare Improvement, 2012). In regards to positioning, when the least damaged portion of the lung
is placed in a dependent position it receives preferential blood flow. This redistribution of blood flow
helps match ventilation and perfusion, therefore, improving gas exchange (Lough, Stacy Urden,
2010). Implementing these interventions combined with respiratory therapy, significantly improved
the blood gas values for oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. Pressure ulcers are key clinical indicators
of the standard and effectiveness of care (Elliott, Fox McKinley, 2008). L.M. was at high risk for
pressure ulcers for multiple factors such as immobility, poor nutrition, age, and health. Therefore, I

Market Share Of The Enterprise Software
This is how 2015 market share of the enterprise software looked like for the top 10 vendors of total
$320B in product revenues.
Gartner s 2Q16 forecast shows that 2016 global spending for enterprise software will be $367.5 billion
in constant U.S. dollars.
Large organizations as well as small startups have been focusing on the enterprise segment. Once
consumer only products like iPhone (for business) and Android (for work) are now enterprise ready
and widely used for businesses in the large organizations. Moreover, the business model shift from a
legacy on premises to the cloud based SaaS model is evident and that is enabling both, businesses as
well as vendors, to be agile, work from everywhere, reduce maintenance/ownership cost and quickly
scale to the evolving business demands. It s not surprising that nowadays virtually every enterprise
software offers a flavor of cloud or SaaS solution.
Though as of today most of the enterprise softwares are still sold traditionally where CIO/CXO and
business relations play crucial roles, but the market shift, workforce sentiment/satisfactions can t be
ignored for long. As a result, established players and leaders in the segment are changing and pulling
up their sleeves to deliver modern and competitive products. Contrary to what Paul Graham said in
2007, today enterprise software companies are also trying to be technology companies.
However, building enterprise software always has been challenging. In my opinion, consumer

Everyone strives to be great and leave a lasting legacy. This includes the nations of the present,
present, and future. But, how do nations become great? Powerful militaries, strong economies, and
stable internal affairs are what make nations great, but how are these achieved? The answer to this
question can be found by looking at the past. One time period to observe is the 15th and 16th
centuries. In this time many civilizations rose to new heights across the globe. Obviously the greatest

regional leaders by the sultan and under these leaders were more delegated duties. This meant that

because the people who ran it were very close to the people they were making rules for. Given their
remarkable size and diversity it is impressive that they never had any large scale revolts. Their empire

were able to quell their differences by assigning religious leaders to each province, further increasing
the web of connection within the empire. Critics of the Ottoman will say that their government was

Importance Of College Education Essay
Linda Jiang Student Essay Question #1: Why is a college education important to you? 300 500 words
each
A college education is important to me because it opens my future for better opportunities within the
medical field. Currently, a pharmacist is a profession that I am the most interested in because I enjoy
chemistry, the meticulous, and well organized work that they are known for. A college education will
teach me the skills to become a pharmacist, provide me with hands on experiences in this career, and
give me ample resources to find a job in the most enjoyable career path. Even if I choose to pursue a
different career, a college education will most definitely prepare me for the career as long as I am
willing to study and work hard. In the competitive world that we live in, even a low paying job can be
difficult to procure, not to mention how scarce high paying jobs and reasonable working conditions
are. A college education makes it easier to get high paying jobs and stand out in job applications.
College graduates have an edge and a larger variety of jobs to choose from. Even if through the
college education I do not find what I enjoy doing, the professors, people I would have met, and
activities that I would have participated in, will most likely give me a larger insight on what I want to
do as a career.
In addition to opening my future to better opportunities, there are also two other reasons why a college

Orlando-Conforming to Society Essays
As a person looks around themselves and their surroundings they can pick up little details about
themselves as well as their society. Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken home,
displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what s not. This alludes to the fact that one
acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way to make
one s self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the respect of
society? That is the very struggle that presents itself in Virginia Woolf s Orlando.

Having lost his first true love devastated Orlando, and having Mr. Nick Greene put down his beloved
poetry (page 94, Woolf), the last issue Orlando could handle in the current society he was in, were the
advances of the Archduchess Harriet (page114, Woolf). It is then that Orlando decided to pick himself
up and transfer himself into another society. He moved to the land of the Turks in the seventeenth
century.
Once Orlando reached the Turk s he once again conformed himself. At about seven, he would rise,
wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet (page 120, Woolf).
Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying to escape
the prison that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second time trying to
conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled, looked, and
covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he seemed to
have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf). This begs the
question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn t fit in despite his effort? It is
here where Orlando became pensive, and was graced with a visit from the Ladies: Purity, Chastity, and
Modesty. The reader senses Orlando s inner musings of what his next step would be or where it would

Examples Of Gamesmanship In Sports
ETHICS OF SPORTS
To understand the role ethics plays in sport competition. It is important to make distinction between
gamesmanship sportsmanship.
Gamesmanship is built on the principle that winning is everything. Athletes coaches are encouraged to
bend the rules wherever possible in order to gain a competitive advantage over an opponent to pay less
attention to the safety welfare of the competition. Some of the key tenants of gamesmanship are:
1. WINNING IS EVERYTHING.
2. It s only cheating if you get caught.
3. It is the referee s job to catch wrongdoing the athletes coaches have no inherent responsibility to
follow the rules.
4. The ends always justify the means. Some examples of gamesmanship are :
1. Faking a foul or injury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Covert personal fouls, such as grabbing a player underwater during a water polo match.
5. Inflicting pain on an opponent with the intention of knocking him or her out of the game.
6. Like that saint s bounty scandal.
7. The use of performance, enhancing drugs.
8. Taunting or intimidating an opponent.
9. A coach lying about an athlete s grades in order to keep him or her eligible to play.
A more ethical approach to athletics is sportsmanship. Under a sportsmanship model, healthy
competition is seen as a means of cultivating personal honour, virtue character. It contributes to a
community of respect trust between competitors in society. The goal in sportsmanship is not simply to
win, but to pursue victory with honour by giving one s best effort.
Ethics in sport requires 4 key virtues:
Fairness , Integrity , Responsibility Respect.
1. Fairness:
1. All athletes coaches must follow established rules guidelines of their respective sport.
2. Teams that seek an unfair competitive advantage over their opponent create an uneven playing field
which violates the integrity of the sport.
3. Athletes coaches are not discriminated against or excluded from participating in a sport based on
their race, gender, or sexual

Analysis Of The Je Quan D. Sailes Irving
Je Quan D. Sailes Irving
APUSH Summer Assignment
Chapter 1:
Chapter 1 focused on introducing two politicians that were about to have a duel on July 11, 1804.
Aaron Burr was the third vice president of the United States and the vice president during Thomas
Jefferson s term. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father of the United States and apart of the
federalist party. Both Hamilton and Burr were each other s political rival and would insult one another
until they arranged a duel to end their dispute. The duel ended with Hamilton shooting Burr in the
right side causing him to die the next day. Newspapers exaggerated the situation by making it seem
like Hamilton murdered Burr out of cold blood and dwindling his reputation as a politician. What
interested me in this chapter was that in the past they used dueling as a way to handle disputes
between one another. However, I don t think that dueling was the smartest method of settling a coral
between people because it is a selfish act that is similar to suicide and risk ruining your life.
Chapter 2:
Chapter 2 consisted of Hamilton considering to resign from being the secretary of treasury if his fiscal
was rejected because he would then of no use but Jefferson suggested that he could possibly help
Hamilton. Hermetic meetings were hosted at Jefferson s home, and they were arranged and called

Ten Little Soldiers Summary
This book is about ten strangers who receive invitations from U.N. Owen to meet at Soldier Island (off
in England), the island that used to be owned by an American who hosted big parties. So because they
thought there would be a huge event, each individual gladly accepts. Little did they know that no one
else was going to be on that island. The guests arrive and meet each other, except they still have no
clue who Mr. or Mrs. U.N. Owen is. As they eat dinner, a gramophone plays announcing why each
guest has been invited, because they all have committed murder that the law can t touch. As their
vacation goes by, each soldier or guest dies off one by one in a particular manner, their deaths follow
those of the poem by Frank Green titled Ten Little Soldiers or Ten Little Indians. The setting is on
Soldier Island. Aan island in Devon, England. There are no hills or caves, it is just a piece of land with
a large house standing on it. The book takes place at early August. From the eighth to the twelfth.
There are so many main characters because the book was about all ten guests. I think the most
important character is the murderer himself who is given a better description in the end of the book.
Justice Wargrave also known as U.N. Owen. Wargrave was accused of sending Edward Seton to his
death because he found him guilty in court while 9 out of 10 said he was innocent. He grew up with
the lust to kill, and he used the law as a way to send guilty people to their death without

Theme Of Cruelty In House Of Sand And Fog
The House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III uses the theme of loyalty to show the importance of
acts of cruelty as motivation. Kathy Lazaro, a cleaner, living in California had her home, which she
inherited from her late father, wrongfully taken from her. She goes to the extreme to get it back from
Behrani, a Persian Colonel, who was planning on selling the house to gain a profit. Kathy consistently
shows loyalty to her family when cruel events happen to her. When Kathy s husband, Nick, leaves her
she keeps it from her family to remain loyal to Nick but also to keep them from worrying, she reveals
her inability to handle conflicts. When Kathy s house that she inherited from her father is taken from
her she go to extreme measures in hopes of getting it back, this reveals her loyalty to her father. ...

When Kathy was left by her husband she kept it from her family, she lived a lie as she would tell them
about how she was traveling and meeting friends. Kathy repeatedly told lies in order to avoid not only
the truth but conflict. It became a second nature to lie, this should be familiar to me, her silence as I
keep the truth (364). Kathy s lies were a form of loyalty, to Nick but also to her family as she did not
want them to worry. Also Kathy understood that with the truth will come many questions, to avoid the
questions and confrontation she avoid the

The On The Gaming Industry
The gaming industry took America so far in entertainment for generations of young and old to play for
decades to come. Starting from one of the developers of the atomic bomb used in World War II to the
present day console wars of PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games have been played. Computer
engineers took steps and chances with their ideas, making them into successful business men in a
brand new industry, creating new products of imagination, science, and reality. If there were no video
games modern day products and small industries such as apple would not exist since Atari hired Steve
Jobs to come work for them and not pushing him to the limit of the apple computer. New worlds were
in place for developers and customers to explore and enjoy. The developer of the atomic bomb and
first person to take a chance was William Higinbotham. His game started in Brookhaven in which he
took charge and calling it Tennis for Two. His invention was simulated on a screen was a vertical side
view of a tennis court showing the edge floor with the edge of a floor with the edge of the net
perpendicular to it (Games...). The game system came with two controls having one knob and button
on each one giving players to hit a small dot representing the ball moving back and forth. The actual
device was connected to an oscilloscope having a simple design, although Higinbotham worked with
technical specialist Robert V. Dvorak, who built it and Alexander Elia is designing, designs the
blueprints.

Lockheed Martin Case 2011
Executive Summary
Lockheed Martin is a leading security and defense company based in Bethesda, MD with operations
that span the globe. Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert
Stevens leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense (A
amp;D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase shareholder
value. However, recent issues with contract mismanagement and cost overruns involving the
government F 35 program leave a negative outlook on their operations. They also face increasing
pressure to acquire and retain key employees from a diminishing talent pool. Government budget cuts
threaten to hurt revenues, thus making it important for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Efficient buildings, where companies such as Lockheed Martin have converted their buildings to be
efficient in saving energy, which is a way to cut costs in a declining economic environment,
emphasize stewardship of the environment. Europe has enacted a Clean Sky initiative, which is a large
research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport technology.
Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge
technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R amp;D spending to be fairly
high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology.
Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending.
Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government
spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also attempt
to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin s secured contract with Israel for future purchase of
F 35 s, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased competition is
expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become more competitive
(Thompson).

Medical Advances Throughout History And History
Medical advances throughout history has provided people the safety and comfort of knowing that
whatever illness befalls them, there is will be a treatment regimen that will bring relief.
Vaccinations has prevented and nearly eliminated many childhood diseases. Maintenance medications
provide a way for older adults to manage their chronic medical conditions. But there are some medical
conditions that are also chronic, but with no cure available. One such condition is HIV, or human
immunodeficiency virus. According to Tortora, HIV is the pathogen causing the loss of immune
function that selectively infects helper T cells (545). My goal in this paper is to show the advances
modern medicine has achieved in discovering the different ways to combat this disease, whether it is
attacking the virus directly or assisting our own body s ability to fight infection.
Vaccinations are usually are our first line of defense at preventing diseases. According to
Haynes, isolation of potent broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) assist CD8T cell killing of HIV
infected cells, have opened new avenues for strategies for HIV vaccine design (39). These antibodies
recognize a protein that is present on the surface of all HIV strains and neutralize the effects of the
virus. The problem researchers have here is that, with vaccination, a person builds up their own
immune response rather quickly. But with HIV vaccines, the antibodies are produced after two to four
years of infection due to these

Case Study Of Stieg Larsson s Lisbeth Salander
The best memory one could have even of one s own life is definitely his or her childhood. But when
the childhood goes wrong, our whole life is topsy turvy. The trauma experienced during childhood
pricks us day by day creating obsession and weakness thereby forming a barrier in our overall
personality development. Childhood trauma is more powerful that it can leave an everlasting
impression on our behaviour and personality. This paper makes a case study of Stieg Larsson s Lisbeth
Salander, a victim of childhood trauma and attempts to observe the change from the normal
behavioural pattern as an impact of the trauma experienced during her childhood. (Keywords: Stieg
Larsson, Lisbeth Salander, Female Detective Fiction, Trauma, Behaviour pattern) ... Show more

The first and foremost effect of her trauma is reflected in her recalcitrant lifestyle. After releasing from
the psychiatric unit, Lisbeth was put under guardianship. By guardianship an individual who is not
capable of living independently and managing his or her own expenses is put under the control of a
responsible person who would inspect him/her from time to time, help in managing fund and produce
reports from time to time about the improvement of the individual. Lisbeth Salander was put under the
guardianship of an advocate Holger Palmgren, a nice man interested in altruistic activities. He is the
only positive inspiration in salander s life. He understood Salander and tolerated all her eccentricities
and violent behaviour like a father handling a difficult teenager. She had joined a rock band named
Evil fingers and started dressing herself like a junkie belonging to some Satan cult. She got herself
drunk, used drugs, had sexual intercourse with whomever she like no matter male or female. She had a
wayward Lifestyle and was usually an outlaw. Holger Palmgren never attempted to advise her on her
behaviour. Instead he talked to one of his friends at Milton security Agency and got her a job of
checking mails and making coffee. He was liberal enough to allow Lisbeth Salander handle her own
expenses. Suddenly one fine day Lisbeth discovered him when having stroke on the apartment floor
and had admitted him in the hospital. When the doctors had no hope of his survival, Lisbeth unable to
tolerate his upcoming death deserted him in the hospital. After the stroke, her guardian was changed
by the government. She was handed over to a new guardian, Nils Bjurman. This man turned out to be
anything but goodness. Right from the first conversation she understood that their relationship is going
to be quite complicated.

Child Soldiers Persuasive Speech
War is a very tough thing to handle. There is sacrifice and death, and yet peace is still not found. Now
countries like the U.S. might fight with others but they don t use children to do it. Other countries like
Sierra Leone are using children to fight their battles. Their horrible methods are immoral and unsafe,
so it is only safe to say that child soldiers are the victims of this unspeakable act. The goal should be
to rehabilitate these children, not punish them. We should give these kids a chance at a normal life.
Some of these children have watched their parents die in front of them or have been victims of rape
and abuse. They have nothing and if we punish them even more by taking away the one thing they are
still trying to hold on too, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Organizational Leadership And Human Resource Management
Management is the art, or science of achieving goals through people. More broadly management is the
process of designing and maintaining an environment in which individuals, working together in
groups efficiently accomplish selected aims (Kontz and Weihrich 1990, p.4). Therefore management
refers to the development of bureaucracy that originates its importance from the need for co
ordination, strategic planning and directing and controlling large and complex decision making
processes. Management is concerned in the key areas of: administration, problem solving,
organisational leadership and human resource management.
Management decision making has traditionally been based on objectives such as sales, costs,
efficiency and benefits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Management that takes care and acknowledges the importance of employees skills tends to achieve
superior management outcomes. The term affect is defined as being capable of involving a person s
mind or as being capable of provoking deliberate responses in a person s mind (Umemuro, 2009).
Employees are the fundamental mechanism that drives and maintains an organisation. The study,
based on the Hawthorne effect, have indicated that employees who experience more positive affects
are more productive, and thus people are at their most productive when experiencing positive moods
(Harter, Schmidt, and Hayes 2002). Positive affect is associated with the process of motivating
employees (Fisher, 2010, Frederickson, 2003). Studies indicate that organisations with strong
employer employee engagement achieve higher profits (Harter et al., 2002, 2010).
The humans relation theory is an approach to management in which employees are not only motivated
by financial reward but also by a range of social factors such as praise, feelings of achievement and
pride in one s work. This theory was developed through research in the 1920s and 1930s at the
Western Electric Company (in the Hawthorne studies). Observed by Elton Mayo and Fritz

External Environment Of Southwest Airlines
When it comes to the external environments of Southwest airlines there are many things to consider.
The general environment and the industry in general are thing to consider. A major challenge that must
have due consideration is competition. There are many aspects of the general environment.
Demographic, technological, economic and political/legal are a few. There are seven concepts that
make up the general environment analysis. All together they show what Southwest is all about.
Southwest s demographic trend favors two types of travelers, the time oriented and the cost efficient
travelers. The time oriented are mainly business related travelers. They are using doing a short haul
type of flight. The cost efficient travelers are mainly leisure type travelers such as one s going on
vacation. Both of these travelers prove that southwest main objective is cost and time efficient
traveling. When it comes to technology, Southwest has been using antiques, but Southwest is fixing to
change that. According to the Dallas Morning Times, new domestic reservation system will replace 30
year old technology this year, giving southwest the same ability as rivals to accept foreign currency,
recover faster from storms, and more easily change prices and schedules. (DallesNews.com) Along
with the new reservation system will come virtual tickets. Southwest s will do away with paper tickets
for people using employee s guest passes. Thus, Southwest has started to update their technology.

King Louis Xiv s Absolute Monarchy
Luz Cristina Miramontes FR 400 GWAR 4/15/2016 Louis XIV s ballets: a form of absolute monarchy
17th century France, a transformative period for French society, which gave rise to the French
monarchy, an absolute monarchy ruled by the eccentric King Louis XIV. Having become King at a
young 4 years old after the death of his father, Louis XIV, guided by his mentor Mazarin, believed that
it was his divine right to be king and that his authority was given to him by God. Because of such
belief, through God s grace, he instituted an absolute monarchy. The monarch is regarded as a great
figure of power in the sense that his first priority was to make his kingdom, France, the best it could
be. However, the only problem with such ambition was that his ideology did not match that of his ...

Thirteen of the most experienced Dance Masters were appointed to set standards for teaching and

  • 2. `` Blue Moon Of Kentucky `` From an American perspective, the color blue symbolizes and represents a multitude of social and iconic aspects identified as uniquely Kentuckian. The Bluegrass State stands as one of the most recognizable state monikers across the country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz recorded by both Bluegrass musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis Presley), and chants of Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of Kentucky s athletic programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century movement toward a more popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic support for those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any other state... • 3. Medical Physics Personal Statement At a time when it was popular practice for kids growing up in my country to aspire to become doctors, lawyers and engineers, for no rational reasons owing to naiveté that comes with such tender ages, I had known I wanted to save lives. I just didn t know in what capacity it would be. I can safely say that I grew up faster than most children my age, I had known what it meant to lose a father at six, I had seen an aunt die of what they said was cancer at ten. I had also known the frustration of not being able to do anything to save both. And of course, I couldn t have. I am a grown man now, equipped with the rationality that comes with education, and most importantly the informed will to save the world. And I have found an important tool in Medical Physics. Early in life, I developed an aversion for linearity of mind. As I grew to grasp the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, I discovered what I call the harmony of science. I realized that scientific problems were best solved via a holistic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It made me conclude that clean water, although odorless, colorless and tasteless, is not necessary healthy water. • 4. Object Oriented Database Introduction Choosing the right OODB architecture can mean orders of magnitude difference in performance and scalability characteristics rather than a few percentage points as found in relational implementations. To achieve maximum performance and scalability the most important thing is choosing the right application architecture. OODBs give applications much more direct access to the persistent data, so application architecture has much more impact on performance than is the case with an RDB. Or to put it another way, when using an OODB the application architect has much more power to optimize performance than when using an RDB. Consequently the application architecture has more effect on performance and scalability than the choice of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, a database system contains the five following features: Persistence As in a conventional database, data must remain after the process that created it has terminated. For this purpose data has to be stored permanently on secondary storage. Secondary Storage Management Traditional databases employ techniques, which manage secondary storage in order to improve the performance of the system. These are usually invisible to the user of the system. Concurrency The system should provide a concurrency mechanism, which is similar to the concurrency mechanisms in conventional databases. Recovery The system should provide a recovery mechanism similar to recovery mechanisms in conventional databases. Ad hoc query facility The database should provide a high level, efficient, application independent query facility. This needs not necessarily be a query language but could instead, be some type of graphical interface. The above criteria are perhaps the most complete attempt so far to define the features of an object

  • 6. Analysis Of The Mccord Museum Of Canadian History Canada is a multicultural nation whose population was vastly built through the immigration of peoples from around the world. The McCord Museum of Canadian History explores Canada s multiculturalism through several exhibits. The museum was brought to life by David Ross McCord who wished to shed light on the history and cultures of his country and thus bring its people together. The Museum features several exhibits which are physically available at the museum, and some of which are available online. One of the online exhibits entitled Being Irish O Quebec explores the impact in which Irish culture has had on the province of Quebec from past to present. Many years ago, Irish people departed from their home country to escape difficult times and find a bright future in Canada. Many of the Irish immigrants settled into the colony of New France, which is now known as the Canadian province Quebec. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit at McCord Museum pushes the idea that the Irish are one of the most significant ethnic groups in Quebec, both in the way of numbers and historical impact. The Exhibit depicts Irish immigration to Quebec using artifacts and images. These artifacts and images as well as the information that comes along with them demonstrate the struggles and successes of the Irish peoples at this time. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit s main argument is that the Irish had a major contribution to Quebec s identity as a province. The Exhibit claims that the Irish are ... • 7. Conservatism In Strictly Ballroom A life lived in fear is a life half lived . Discuss how this notion is explored in Strictly Ballroom. Establishing Baz Luhrmann s acclaimed Red Curtain trilogy, Strictly Ballroom explores the notion that a life lived in fear is a life half lived, through his effective use of characterisation, setting, symbolism and cinematography. The coming of age piece follows two ballroom dancers through their battle against conventionality, during the height of the rigorous 1980 s Australian dance culture. Furthermore, an emphasis on exaggeration is portrayed within the film to exemplify the notion of regret, which directs viewers into an animated like perception of theatre, as urged by Luhrmann. Due to fear of confrontation, Doug Hastings is portrayed as submissive, through the depiction of power and domination imposed by both his wife and Barry Fife. Doug lives his life in the shadows and is treated with an element of disdain by both his family and the dancing fraternity. It becomes apparent to the audience that Doug has a point to make to Scott: Son, can I bend your ear for a tick. Ultimately, Doug embodies the notion of living a life in fear: We had the chance but we were scared. We walked away... In addition, towards the conclusion of the film when Doug explains the truth about his dance past to Scott, a point of view shot is employed by Luhrmann to demonstrate the action from Doug s point of view. This is achieved specifically as he looks around him before jumping off the stage. Furthermore, Doug s newfound courage is apparent in line shall we dance? directed at his wife. He is finally standing up to Barry Fife, and joining his son in the rebellion of the dance academy. • 8. Guilt In Maus How are the different characters in Maus affected by guilt? Discuss with reference to the text. In the World of Maus, we see the types of guilt different characters experience throughout the graphic novel. In many ways the relationship between Vladek and Art is the central topic of the book, and this narrative deals extensively with feelings of guilt. Whether that is the impact on Art from Anja s death, or the guilt Vladek felt as a survivor. Maus revolves around this relationship between past and present, and the intergenerational effects of past events on Art Spiegelman. Art felt responsible for anything bad that happened to his father and that is why he was so worried when Vladek read the comic after many years. For a very long time Artie did not know what to do and could not live with himself. He had a sense of paranoia and felt that everything around him was evil and everyone had bad intentions. Powerful Regional Differences National Unity or Powerful Regional Differences Since the Civil War, the United States has undergone many changes in the people s attitude towards each other and the government. I believe that the United States has gone through both national unity and powerful regional differences since the Civil War ended in 1865. The national unity of the nation took awhile to come together, and it started with the Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights movement started to make the american people come together and fight for a single thought or idea. Martin Luther King Jr. was the idealized figure behind this movement. • 10. Informative Speech About Wine Benefits of Wine Aeration Hello everyone! I m excited to be speaking to you today about my absolute favorite alcoholic beverage... red wine! I m here to share information about some of the unknown benefits of wine aeration. Aerating certain varietals of red wine reduces ethanol and sulfite content, helps to remove sediment, and enhances flavor profile, texture, and aromas (Smith, 2015). I have drink many, many bottles of red wine, and there are significant differences to aerated wine. Aerated wine has a softer mouthfeel, as well as an overall better taste. So, today I will be explaining the process of aeration, the varietals of wine that should or should not be aerated, and the assortment of wine aerators available on the market. Now, some ... • 11. Nisei Daughter by Monica Sone Essay Nisei Daughter, by Monica Sone Even with all the mental anguish and struggle, an elemental instinct bound us to this soil. Here we were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes for democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key to understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one perspective, this novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in which she constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct differences and tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be seen as an attempt to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout her novel, Monica describes events and experiences, which reveal her character and personality. However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is overlooked. I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There was also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of Japanese Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan, were generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly, the Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong ties amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which enhanced their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of peers. They participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference between the Issei and Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. They were born here and they held complete citizenship. This was not true for the Issei. Another factor that separated the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Crystal Structure of Sphingosine In the PDBID 3V2Y, the crystal structure of the sphingosine 1 phosphate receptor subtype 1 is fused to T4 lysozyme. Fusion of the third intracellular loop to the T4 lysozyme rendered soluble crystal junctions (Rosen H et al, 2013) for the rapidly disintegrating microcrystals (Hanson MA et al, 2012). Structure elements of S1PR1 The structural observations gained from antagonist preserved structures of Rhodopsin like GPCRs show that the typical orientation of the seven transmembrane domains have significant overlap. The minute overlap is produced depending on the helix bundle, tilt and the specific interactions (hydrophobic and electrostatic). This specific overlap is important for co ordinated signaling by the different GPCRs (Rosen H et al, 2013). GPCRs possess an extracellular domain consisting of the N terminus and three extracellular loops. However, a number of prominent features are associated with the Ligand Binding Pocket in the S1P1 receptor. The extracellular region of S1PR1 is significantly ordered. This is due to the N terminus comprising a well ordered α helix that projects the top of the receptor. This contributes to binding interactions and forms a helix cap, which occludes access to the amphipathic binding pocket (Hanson MA et al, 2012). The three loops, namely, ECL1 amidst helices II and III, ECL2 formed between helices IV and V and ECL3 in helices VI and VII, also make up the extracellular region. Both ECL1 and ECL2 are tightly packed against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role of Law Enforcement in Curbing Gang Violence Background: Most research shows that the public believes that law enforcement s major goal in many urban and suburban areas is to prevent gang activity. Gang activity is certainly not a new phenomenon, but has been part of human history since Ancient Times (Rome, Greece, the Middle Ages, etc.). In most countries, gang violence patterns the sociological development of society and the evolution of criminal activity as criminal activity becomes more sophisticated, so do gang activities. While most sociological theories tie gang behavior to youth violence, one can trace a number of changes in gang violence to the way organized crime has evolved in the United States (Franzese, et al., 2006). At the beginning of the 20th century, for instance, gangs were often based around ethnic boundaries and confined within ethnic neighborhoods. These early gangs tended to focus on non violent or human weakness crime (e.g. prostitution, gambling, nontaxable cigarettes and alcohol). Once gambling because legal in Nevada, much of the organized crime dealing with gambling moved to Las Vegas, while still retaining some ties to the major metropolitan areas. As tastes changed, so did the criminological focus of gangs; from liquor to drugs, from drugs to social and political control back focusing on ethnic boundaries (e.g. Asian, Latino, etc.) (Jackson and McBridge, 2000). In this way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world imaginative. Not all of his work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you feel just a little bit transported to another world. This meant that their whole government was a complicated web of connections. The government was fair and stable because the people who ran it were very close to the people they were making rules for. Given their remarkable size and diversity it is impressive that they never had any large scale revolts. Their empire included Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Despite the conflicts between these groups the Ottomans were able to quell their differences by assigning religious leaders to each province, further increasing the web of connection within the empire. Critics of the Ottoman will say that their government was too spread, without a clear leader. On the other hand, the sultan was quite powerful, as evidenced by Suleiman the Magnificent. He was a legendary leader and as sultan vastly improved the Ottoman empire. The Ottomans ruled with a firm, but steady hand. This hand was held together by a complex network of connections. The Ottomans were undoubtedly great, with their mighty military, robust economy, and firm governing. They achieved their greatness through embracing the power of connections. A college education will teach me the skills to become a pharmacist, provide me with hands on experiences in this career, and give me ample resources to find a job in the most enjoyable career path. Even if I choose to pursue a different career, a college education will most definitely prepare me for the career as long as I am willing to study and work hard. In the competitive world that we live in, even a low paying job can be difficult to procure, not to mention how scarce high paying jobs and reasonable working conditions are. A college education makes it easier to get high paying jobs and stand out in job applications. College graduates have an edge and a larger variety of jobs to choose from. Even if through the college education I do not find what I enjoy doing, the professors, people I would have met, and activities that I would have participated in, will most likely give me a larger insight on what I want to do as a career. Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken home, displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what s not. This alludes to the fact that one acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way to make one s self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the respect of society? That is the very struggle that presents itself in Virginia Woolf s Orlando. Orlando is a story about a young man who transcends into adulthood, finding his own path, by becoming a woman who lives ... Having lost his first true love devastated Orlando, and having Mr. Nick Greene put down his beloved poetry (page 94, Woolf), the last issue Orlando could handle in the current society he was in, were the advances of the Archduchess Harriet (page114, Woolf). It is then that Orlando decided to pick himself up and transfer himself into another society. He moved to the land of the Turks in the seventeenth century. Once Orlando reached the Turk s he once again conformed himself. At about seven, he would rise, wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet (page 120, Woolf). Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying to escape the prison that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second time trying to conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled, looked, and covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he seemed to have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf). This begs the question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn t fit in despite his effort? It is here where Orlando became pensive, and was graced with a visit from the Ladies: Purity, Chastity, and Modesty. Sailes Irving APUSH Summer Assignment Chapter 1: Chapter 1 focused on introducing two politicians that were about to have a duel on July 11, 1804. Aaron Burr was the third vice president of the United States and the vice president during Thomas Jefferson s term. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father of the United States and apart of the federalist party. Both Hamilton and Burr were each other s political rival and would insult one another until they arranged a duel to end their dispute. The duel ended with Hamilton shooting Burr in the right side causing him to die the next day. Newspapers exaggerated the situation by making it seem like Hamilton murdered Burr out of cold blood and dwindling his reputation as a politician. What interested me in this chapter was that in the past they used dueling as a way to handle disputes between one another. However, I don t think that dueling was the smartest method of settling a coral between people because it is a selfish act that is similar to suicide and risk ruining your life. Chapter 2: Chapter 2 consisted of Hamilton considering to resign from being the secretary of treasury if his fiscal was rejected because he would then of no use but Jefferson suggested that he could possibly help Hamilton. Hermetic meetings were hosted at Jefferson s home, and they were arranged and called dinners .
