This document discusses the pathology of gastrointestinal tract lesions. It summarizes the gross and microscopic features of peptic ulcers, carcinoma of the stomach, and carcinoma of the colon. For peptic ulcers, it describes the typical locations in the stomach or duodenum and histologic zones. Carcinoma of the stomach commonly presents as a flat, infiltrating growth with irregular margins. Microscopically it shows tubular and acinar growth patterns. Carcinoma of the colon has right-sided fungating masses or left-sided "napkin ring" configurations on gross examination. Microscopically it displays infiltrating glandular growth in the colonic wall.
