A Girl Like Me, By Dr. Kenneth Clark
Racism has always been a hot topic issue in America. Starting, of course, with slavery and enduring
long after its abolishment. Many try to put an end to it, but this is one of those things that will take
many, many years to completely eradicate from society. In this paper, I will briefly discuss both the
Clark Doll Experiment and the film A Girl like Me, discuss my opinion on racism in America,
demonstrate how racism effects the schools, and discuss how and why my interpretation of this
compares with the views of another culture.
This transcript discusses the Clark Doll Experiment, a study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Clark and his
wife Mamie in 1939 to test children s self perception related to race. This transcript talks about how
the test was done on mainly African American children, using two dolls, a black and white one. It then
briefly talks about the short film A Girl like Me, and its director and creator Kiri David. Along with
that, the article explains how this experiment helped persuade the Supreme Court during the Brown V.
Board of Education case in 1954 to desegregate schools. By providing proof of the psychological
damage that was being done to black children attending segregated schools. Going back to the
discussion about Kiri Davis film, it talks about how she used the same experiment, and got close to the
same results as Clark did when he conducted it. This article continues talking about Kiri Davis, and an
interview that was done with her mother explaining

Manifest Destiny Research Paper
Because of Manifest Destiny the United States faced potential wars and a great deal of inequality.
Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While Manifest
Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and promoted war
which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression.
Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it,
said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed for the
U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. Although the U.S.
was able to acquire California and New Mexico through this act, it was not a valid reason to invade
Mexican territory and purloin land that did not belong to the United States. Along with O Sullivan,
presidents John Tyler and James K. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Manifest Destiny: An Introduction the author says It excluded those people who were
percieved as being incapable of self government, such as Native American people and those of non
European origin. This is an example of inequality because people who were not European were
practically ignored and viewed as unimportant which gave them less rights than everyone else. The
article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land from
Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. This is another example of
inequality because Americans tried to take land from those who were seen as lesser than them so they
could have more for themselves and leave Natives, Central Americans and Europeans with nothing.
Manifest Destiny was not an acceptable excuse to take land and rights from people because they
weren t considered fully American and therefore just gave the government an excuse to control those
people so they could take what they wanted from

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders
From a brief reading of Under the Influence , by Scott Russell Sanders, one can understand being
shamed and being condemned for actions that is not their own fault, but instead brought upon
themselves as a consequence of others. Son of an alcoholic, Sanders was a deprived man, who
believes himself a criminal. However, the crime, which he has set in stone is a debt that can truly
never be fulfilled, because the victim is already dead. To exact life into the meaning over Sander s
adversity is to invade within the depths of the man s skeleton closet; by understanding the meaning
behind inner privacy between father and son. The bond between father and son can be said as the man
s greatest fortunate or self inflicted trauma, in Sander s reality it proves to be the latter, as it latches
itself on to his son. The series of misfortune events continues delegate, not only in Sander s past
reality, but also in his present. Writing as a memoir to dead father, writing as a note to his son, and
writing as an outlet of relief can all be explained as the purposes of the narrative. However, this offsets
who it is actually to himself, as a reminder to not become his father.
Although tribulations can destroy and wreak havoc on a person, it prepares individuals to take on the
complete misery of life. The relationship between Sanders and his father cannot be considered a tragic
ending, in another way it is a fundamental part of Sanders perseverance against the grievances of daily
strife. I

The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay
Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar Allen
Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder scheme,
where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the wall, and
then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violence by any conventional
means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall meaning of the
passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in The Cask of
Amontillado should be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into the
catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of skeletons
stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss. The air becomes
thinner, forcing the torches to become increasingly dim as the pair head deeper ... Show more content

As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and walling him
in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an integral part of The
Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story. Violence also plays a pivotal
role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family is Nemo me impune lacessit,
meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor s motive for murder becomes
clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form, upsetting him, and driving him into
killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence is also portrayed literally in his family coat
of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of
a blue field. In short, violence provides the foundation for the story s plot, and plays a pivotal role in
establishing the mood in the

Green Colleges Noel Perrin Summary
Noel Perrin s essay The Greener Campuses: An Idiosyncratic Guide is a compilation of the eleven
most environmentally friendly college in the United States. Noel explains that many colleges may
offer classes on environmental studies, but there are very few colleges that actually do their part in
keeping the earth clean. He adds the fact that our planet is on the brink of permanent degeneration if
action is not taken soon; that is why he is calling out colleges, which are large institutions with large
carbon footprints, to do what they can to help save the planet. The following is Noel s list of colleges
and why he believes they can be considered green schools. Brown University ships all of its food
waste to pig farms; which in tern, feeds the pigs and cuts back on the trash being taken to the dump. ...

Dartmouth College has a considerable amount of environmental classes, but they are losing their edge
with projects like a new anti environmental library. Emory University is known for its large use of
alternative fuels. Michigan as Ann Harbor has purchased a lot of green power and is in the process of
finding more ways to lower their greenhouse emissions. Tulane University has an Environmental Law
Clinic. Two University of California campuses have either enacted solar panels on campus or a large
portion if the student population uses bikes instead of cars as transportation. The University of New
Hampshire has tried to change the mindsets of its students to think and act greener. Oberlin College
and Northland College both built green buildings for environmental studies. Middlebury College has
an almost entire administration that is dedicated to green, sustainable living. Noel created this list to

The Lord Of Literature By. R. Tolkien
Caleb Cassidy Honors English Literature 9/14/16 4th hour J.R.R Tolkien, The lord of Literature Poet
and author J.R.R. Tolkien is held by many as one of the greats within English literature. He was a
master of writing and teaching, and he showed excellence in academia, prose, and poetry. He left an
everlasting impact on the world of literature by using his great understanding of language and his
talent of creating mythical lands of consistent excellence. Tolkien started his life in tragedy, but used
his circumstances to his advantage in his latter life and within his literary career. A man of higher
intellect than most was Tolkien, which is what contributed to making him an amazing writer and poet.
On January 3, 1892 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born to Mabel and Arthur Tolkien in
Bloemfontein, South Africa. Arthur Tolkien was a bank clerk from the U.K. who left for South Africa
in the 1890s for better chances of promotion (Doughan). Mabel Tolkien, maiden name Suffield, was
from the city of Birmingham in the West Midlands of Britain. At the age of eighteen Mabel Suffield
became engaged to Arthur Tolkien. The two were destined for marriage, but Mabel s father forbade
them from marrying for three years. During their three year betrothal Mabel and Arthur exchanged
letters to keep in touch ( Mabel Tolkien ). When the three years were up Mabel sailed to Cape town

Etoricoxib a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Used in...
Introduction What is Etoricoxib?
Etoricoxib, also known as Arcoxia1, is more commonly known as a non steroidal anti inflammatory
drug (NSAID), or as a cyclo oxygenase 2 inhibitor (COX 2). Therapeutically, it is specified for the
symptomatic relief of conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing
spondylitis2,3, and overall for their analgesic and anti inflammatory properties. Arthritis is a chronic
disease affecting up to ten million people in the UK. Approximately 14% of all primary care visits are
for musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction, and can be extremely debilitating if not treated in an efficient
manner2, 4. However, Etoricoxib is not the first line treatment for arthritis, and doctors are ... Show

3) Acute Gouty Arthritis: Given orally 120mg daily. The dose should not exceed 120 mg.
Mechanism
NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2).
This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for inflammation9.
The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which cause
inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory
prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy stomach
and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1 and COX 2.
These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers, amongst others.
NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side effects. In comparison
to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2 inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the
cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the prostaglandin production, consequently
meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related side effects9.

Pharmacokinetic properties
Etoricoxib has a unique chemical structure when compared with other similar COX 2 inhibitors. This
is potentially the reason as to why Etoricoxib has better oral bioavailability and half life in contrast to

Relationship Between Individual Identities And...
Our everyday behaviour, whether at work or at home is believed to be shaped through our individual
identities (Watson, 2006), however the extent to which these individual identities are shaped by the
organisation is questionable. This essay will scrutinize the relationship between individual identities
and organisational culture, looking at whether individual identities are actually shaped by the
corporate culture, whilst reflecting on whether or not experiences outside of work can also have an
influence. Firstly, looking at definitions of culture and how it controls behaviour through a soft
bureaucracy will allow the development of ideas of whether this shapes the individual identities in an
organisation in the same way that rules would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than using rules and acting as a bureaucracy to achieve the corporate goals, a culture aims to
act as guidance and shape the organisation almost in the way of a soft bureaucracy. Instead of
controlling employees through rules, organisational culture aims to determine the behaviour of
employees and implement control in a very subtle way (McAuley et al, 2014), to ensure that the
values and norms are consistent and behaviours are attached to meaning that reflect and pursue the
goals of the organisation. By encouraging people to become part of the culture and making goals
consistent, it brings about this idea of reshaping individuals within the work place. In this context,
individual identity refers to a work based self concept, constituted of a combination of organizational,
occupational, and other identities that shapes the roles a person adopts and the corresponding ways he
or she behaves when performing his or her work (Walsh and Gordon, 2008, p47). This highlights the
idea that in different organisations, individuals will act differently in line with either the rules the
company sets out or its culture. However, it is important to recognize that identity within the
workplace is only one aspect of an individual s identity. To further this, Watson, 2006, p96) highlights
the concept of process relational thinking and how this implies that identities are adaptable and tend to
change as the person shapes and reshapes

Lifestyle Magazine As An Example
Using Lifestyle magazine as an example, explore how media texts target specific audience.
Lifestyle magazine are magazines that tells the audience about the lifestyle they live and can have an
impact on their lives as their views can be subverted by the ideology of the magazine. This ideology
comes from the creators of the magazine; they put what they think instead of what the public thinks
about a certain topic. In this writing i am going to talk about what the lifestyle magazines do in order
to attract specific audience and how they achieve in targeting specific audience.
The two lifestyle magazines that i am going to talk about are FHM and Cosmopolitan magazine.
These magazines were released on november 2013 and the target audience between the two has links
and oppositions. On both magazines, the central image is the image of females; which suggests that
these magazines are targeted at female. But, on the front of these magazines it is a picture of seductive
females which implies that the audience is different and possibly males as they would get attracted.
I am going to start by analysing how FHM targets their audience and keep their loyalty so that they
would not look for another magazine to replace the FHM magazine they currently hold. This magazine
is promoting anti feminism as the main central image is of a woman with a seductive look which is
representing woman in a negative manner. Also, further connotes objectification of woman as the

The Black Rhinoceros By Gonzaga Manzo
History dies with every animal species that becomes extinct. For years the amount African Black
Rhinoceros has been dropping significantly; the problem may be unfixable at this point.
Unfortunately, many animals on earth are facing the same tragedy. These animals are primarily from a
time that no human kept records. They are living, breathing history that will die off because the
superior species could not protect them. In this picture by Gonzaga Manzo, the Black Rhinoceros is
being worked on in an auto shop by two stumped mechanics. They stare puzzled at the large animal,
not being able to see how to fix the problem. Extinction Can t be Fixed is printed in white letters in the
upper right corner, meaning that extinction cannot be reversed with tools found in a repair shop. In
fact, it cannot be reversed at all. Gonzaga Manzo, a Spanish artist, created this image as a part of a
campaign series for the World Wide Fund for Nature for species facing extreme extinction: the Black
rhinoceros. This powerful image was primarily to stop hunting the animals, but also to raise awareness
of the dire situation. The Black Rhinoceros has become extinct in twelve African countries. They are
being hunted for their horn, which is used in certain pain killing drugs and thus is highly sought after.
Furthermore, this is a digitally edited image, which combines real images with digital elements.
Manzo did this to create a realistic photo of the Black Rhinoceros in an auto shop, even though

Disaster, Characteristics And Management Stages Essay
Disaster Characteristics and Management Stages
The purpose of this paper is to examine a recent natural disaster. The number of natural disasters has
risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are increasing exponentially and creating
expanding amounts of destruction each year. A recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in
Louisiana August 2016. This paper will discuss the type of disaster, characteristics of the disaster, and
the application of disaster management stages.
Current Natural Disaster
The morning of August 13th, Baton Rouge and much of southern Louisiana were devastated by
extreme flooding after 20 inches of rain hit the area in a 48 hour period. Rescue teams are calling it the
worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy. This flood has damaged
60,000 homes, leaving an estimated 30,000 people displaced from their homes (CNN, 2016). The
federal government declared this a major disaster killing at least 13 people, flooding thousands of
homes, and prompting thousands of water rescues (The Weather Channel, 2016).
Type of Disaster
There are three different types of disasters, man made, natural, or a combination of both (Nies
McEwen, 2015). The flooding in Louisiana was a natural disaster. Unfortunately, in the past ten years
there has been a dramatic increase in the frequency and intensity of natural weather related disasters
(Veenema et al., 2016). Flooding is most common in the United

Drugs and Alcohol Essay
Drugs are heavily used throughout the entire world. However, it is important to understand and not
undermine the variability in which drugs are used. It is clear some are for distinct medical treatment
and others are for recreational use. In the United States, marijuana has been and continues to be a very
controversial drug. Some states have allowed marijuana consumption for medicinal purposes, while
others have completely outlawed the drug. Those who are against the legalization and regulation of
marijuana suggest the economical and health risk associated with consumption of the drug are too
high. Although there is risk involved with the legalization of the marijuana, our country has already
been risking too much banning the drug. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
in Marijuana Facts 1). From an outsider s perspective, one has to ask why is there so much tension and
hesitation in legalizing marijuana? If alcohol is the direct cause of many deaths, while marijuana has
not been responsible for any, it only makes sense that our health would not be our greatest concern in
legalizing the drug. Also, it is important to understand marijuana consumption is less susceptible to
overuse than alcohol or other drugs (Marijuana 10:477). Despite this, critics often argue that marijuana
is a gateway to other more potent and harmful drugs. According to Dr. Halbach of the World Health
Organization there is no pharmacological link between cannabis and opiates (Marijuana 10:477). This
demonstrates the physiological unlikelihood of marijuana being a stepping stone to other more potent
drugs containing opiates. Marijuana does have drawbacks and side effects, as any other drug whether
medicinal or recreational. However, putting the drug in perspective helps one to understand the
contradiction in legalizing other drugs while continuing to ignore marijuana even though it can
beneficial in different capacities. One major way the legalization and regulation of marijuana can
benefit society is for medical use or prescription by a doctor. Critics of this may be quick to assert this
is an excuse to entertain personal interest and satisfaction one would achieve from the drug. However,

In a separate peace, by John Knowles, Gene Forrester is the protagonist. He is a 17 year old boy who
goes to devon boarding school, and is friends with Finny. Finny is a kind, athletic, and naive student
who s best friend is Gene. These two friends seem to love each other, but most of the time are hiding a
secret jealousy and hatred for one another. Gene said, my war ended ended before I even put on a
uniform; I was on active duty all my time at school; I killed my enemy there.(Pg. 110) In an essay
about a separate peace, the author said, in relation to the prior quote, One of the things the novelist
seems to be saying is that the enemy Gene killed, and loved, is the one every man must kill; his own
youth, the innocence that burns too hotly to be endured. The writer of this essay is referring to a
different enemy innocence then Gene, and although his example is plausible, it isn t the same as what
Gene was referring to. Gene was referring to his enemy that he pretends to be friends with, Finny. This

Stand and Deliver in the Film Blackboard Jungle
The controversial 1955 movie Blackboard Jungle, adapted from the novel The Blackboard Jungle by
Evan Hunter, follows the experiences of a new teacher, Mr. Richard Dadier played by Glen Ford, at
the all boys inner city North Manual High School. The school s students are juvenile delinquents
exhibiting violent and anti social behavior. The film portrays the challenges Mr. Dadier and the other
teachers face in their efforts to reach the students and capture their interests to learn. The result of the
violence he experiences at school is revealed in Mr. Dadier s home life as well; the effect it has on his
wife causes him to consider resigning his position at the school. In a subplot, another new teacher at
the school, an attractive single woman, Miss Lois Hammond played by Margaret Hayes, is attracted to
Mr. Dadier.
The movie represented an important change in films, by presenting relevant cultural issues occurring
in society. The film similarly had a significant effect in music by using Rock n Roll music in the
soundtrack, making Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock an instant hit song. The movie
received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay; Best Cinematography; Best Art

System Design Failures Of Vlsi Circuits
SYSTEM DESIGN FAILURES
Introduction:
Simulation in VLSI circuits are used to evaluate codes that are used in certain applications to improve
the integration process and in the Printed Circuit Board Fabrication process. Simulation is done to
determine the fault in the process. It has great role in Printed Circuit Board fabrication. In VLSI
Testing simulations are classified mainly into Exhaustive Simulation and Non Exhaustive Simulation.
[1]
Exhaustive Simulation: This process that involves applying all possible inputs to the circuit under test
(CUT) by simulating them and checking to see if the output responses are identical for every input.
The major drawback with this process is the number of test patterns. [2]
Non Exhaustive Simulation: This process involves deterministic compact and pseudo random test sets.
This will test the circuit within acceptable time and cost. This reduced test set may be based upon fault
models, particularly the stuck at model. However, it is often required to estimate how effective is this
non exhaustive test set is in detecting possible faults in the circuit under test (CUT). Example: SRT
Algorithm. [3]

Role of Finance and Hr Manager
The Role of Finance Manager
The role of finance manager in the company is an important one. The function of the finance manager
is not confined to the management and making of the accounts but it also plays a major role in
dividend decisions, capital budgeting decisions, capital structure outlay of the firm, decision related to
the merger and acquisitions, and all the investment decisions of the firm. Thus the finance manager
plays an important role in any business enterprise.
The different decisions can be classified into: 1. The routine working capital and cash management
decisions. 2. Dividend decisions 3. Investment decisions 4. Financial forecasting 5. International

They need to be knowledgeable of Center s policy but also have an understanding of harassment and
discrimination beyond the policies themselves.
HR Managers need to be alert to potential harassment and discrimination issues and act appropriately,
either directly or through the appropriate line manager/s. They also must be able to give impartial and
expert advice to people involved in harassment and discrimination cases, both complainants and
alleged offenders.
Victims of harassment in particular may need support and reassurance about the Center s policy and
procedures as well as assurance of confidentiality. The HR Manager should identify appropriate
sources of professional counseling for victims at/for each duty station.
Assisting management in establishing avenues of assistance at all duty stations
While the HR Manager is usually the ultimate source of expert advice and guidance on harassment
and discrimination in each Center, she/he obviously cannot be at every duty station simultaneously.
The HR Manager may even operate in a different time zone than some of the Center s duty stations.
Consequently staff members at all duty stations who may be experiencing harassment need to have
immediate avenues of assistance. These would either be at their duty station or for their duty station if
it has a very small staff.
A good contingency plan for avenues of assistance will have (but not necessarily be limited to) the

Mambouna During The Industrial Revolution
A general strike in Dakar, with the exception of railway workers, guaranteed wage increases, family
allowances for government workers, the recognition of unions, the expansion of wage hierarchies, and
bonuses for seniority. (Aurora Munoz) Several important changes drove the members of the Railway
Workers Union to lead to a memorable strike. The railways had been transferred to a parastatal group,
which means that it was now owned wholly by the government. This changed meant that the railroad
workers could no longer benefit from the status of civil servants. The parastatal group was set up in a
hierarchical fashion. At the bottom of the pyramid were mostly Africans, meaning they receive fewer

Everyone classifies her in the novel as a slut because she is a prostitute, but it has its benefits. Her
character is unique because she is outspoken but sets goals for herself and pursues them. She is a born
leader and a force to be reckoned with. Lahbib said, She kept the women in line, and she forced even
the men to respect her. (Ousmane 143) When one of the workmen had stupidly patted her on the

possesses the qualities of both Maimouna and Ramatoulaye, two other important figures in the novel.
She is a genuine loving and caring person like Maimouna but stands up for justice like Ramatoulaye.
Penda obtained these qualities for a while. From her earliest childhood she had demonstrated a

develop a hatred for men and had turned away everyone who had wanted to marry her. (Ousmane 138)

Subsidence In New Orleans Essay
New Orleans was built on a marsh. The city was inundated by water during Hurricane Katrina in
2005, causing a tremendous loss of human lives and costing the economy billions of dollars in
damage. Since the storm, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has built a system of lift stations and
levees to control the flow of water around the city. This has created what is best described as a bathtub
surrounded by water. To further elaborate, New Orleans is the bath tub, while Lake Pontchartrain and
the Mississippi River surround the city. Over the years keeping water from entering the city has
become more difficult because the city continues to sink lower below sea level. Subsidence of marshy
soils lowers the ground elevation in and around the City of New Orleans. The gradual caving in or
sinking of land is known as subsidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
121 122). Primary subsidence takes place after the water has been drained form the marsh, the soil
compresses under its own weight due to the loss the force of buoyancy. During primary subsidence,
the volume of the organic component decreases, but the mass of the organics remains the same.
Secondary subsidence is caused by a combination of oxidation and shrinkage. The mass and volume
of the organics decreases during secondary subsidence (Ewing and Vepraskas, 2006, p. 121 122).
Being able to differentiate between the two different kinds of subsidence in marshes allows for more
precise methods of measurement by scientists. Primary subsidence happens before secondary
subsidence, and secondary subsidence typically only occurs in the upper portion of the soil stratum,
the part exposed to air. Primary subsidence reduces the volume of the soil, while the mass of the
sample stays the same. Meanwhile secondary subsidence reduces the volume of the soil and reduces
the mass of the soil.

Advantages Of Simulation In Healthcare Systems
Simulation has been used to analyze many issues in the healthcare sector for over 40 years [1]. Such
issues that have been addressed by simulation include, but not limited to; improving patients
workflows and throughput time, reducing waiting times, resources allocation and optimization, staff
scheduling and development of decision support systems (DSS). Discrete Event Simulation (DES),
Agent Based Simulation (ABS) and System Dynamics are the main simulation methods that have
been used for healthcare systems modelling and analysis [2]. Although each of these methods has its
own capabilities, they exhibit some limitations [3]. Table 1 summaries some of the capabilities and
limitations of DES and ABS methods in healthcare applications.
Recently, several hybrid/integrated simulation models have been introduced. In such approach,
multiple simulation methods are combined in one model. This combination/ integration of individual
methods enables the symbiotic realization of the strengths of individual methods, while reducing their
limitations [4].
Chahal and Eldabi [5], [6] identified three different formats for the integration between DES and SD:

Important Incident That Influenced The English Language
I. The English writer Stephen Fry once said: You have already achieved the English Language poet s
most important goal: you can read, write and speak English well enough to understand this sentence . I
may agree with this, but we have to admit English language had passed through many stages of
complexities to occur such a simple and stable status. If we go back several centuries early old English
(450 c.850) to the late modern English (c.1950 ) we would list many changes that affected the English
language. In this report, I will argue one important incident that had influenced the English language a
lot; what had happened in the late seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century
lead a major shifting from the complete authority of the grammarians on the English language to the
lexicographers control and decision making of the language??!!
II. To start with, I have to mention the most important factor of our subject which is Samuel Johnson s
Dictionary of the English Language , that had been published on April 15, 1755. Samuel Johnson who
was born in September 18, 1709 gave his dictionary its prestige and made it a part of history as it was
first published after eight years of hard work. This distinctive job required six assistants to list 40,000
words and mark this work as The English Language Dictionary of the century. Later on, it gained
much attention with its new approach and uniqueness as each word was well defined in details and a

At the beginning of 2009, 65 percent of purchases in the music market was still attributed to CD sales
(Whitney, 2009). On the other hand, our other research has shown strong predictions that CD
purchases will continue to steadily decline in the future. This means that Sony needs to find other
ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but
they don t seem aggressive enough in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago,
Sony partnered up with Wind Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their online sales with
computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow
them to compete with iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that
partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that happening anytime soon.
Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to
distribute Sony s music since they are one of the largest record labels in the world. Their computers
account for almost twenty percent of the international PC market, which would be a great digital outlet

The Horrors of War Exposed in Homer s Iliad
The Horrors of War Exposed in Homer s Iliad
There Harpalion charged Menelaus King Pylaemenes son
Who d followed his father into war at Troy
But he never reached his fatherland again.
He closed on Atrides, spear stabbing his shield
Right on the boss but the bronze could not drive through,
So back he drew to his ranks, dodging death, glancing
Left and right, fearing a lance would graze his flesh.
But Meriones caught him in full retreat, he let fly
With a bronze tipped arrow, hitting his right buttock
Up under the pelvic bone so the lance pierced the bladder.
He sank on the spot, hunched in his dear companion s arms,
Gasping his life out as he writhed along the ground
Like an earthworm stretched out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Homer violates one of his mores by failing to glorify the death of young Harpalion, in nearly
every other way he maintains his traditional devices in recording his demise. Within the passage,
Harpalion undergoes a graphic death, much the same as many heroes and captains undergo upon their
introduction to the audience. He is pierced by an arrow, which slants upward, virtually disemboweling
him and causing him to instantly begin writhing in throes of agony. His life blood oozes out slowly, as
he undergoes bitter pain, and none of his comrades are able to do more than watch helplessly.
Harpalion takes a long time dying, and his father stands by weeping as his lifeless body is hoisted onto
a chariot bound for Ilium. This highly graphic and catharsis inspiring death scene is further typified by
the fact that Harpalion had received no previous mention in the annals of Homer, and like so many of
the heroes of the Trojan war is featured only in the context of death.
Also located within the passage is one of Homer s epic similes, which are featured throughout the
poem, and are a central theme in all chapters and scenes.

Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) is a disorder characterized by behaviour that is socially
undesirable such as breaking the law, lying, and not feeling any guilt. People who suffer from APD
often have certain personality traits such as being charming, manipulative, insincere and incapable of
love. Psychopathy is an extreme version of APD. In this essay, I am going to explore the question
what is Antisocial Personality Disorder? I also wish to understand the difference between people who
suffer from APD and people who suffer from psychopathy.
Antisocial Personality Disorder affects 1 to 4 percentage of the population. Gazzaniga et al. (2016)
outlines how APD is much more common in men than women. Also, nearly 50 percentage of prisoners
meet the requirements to be diagnosed with APD. According to the DSM 5, the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, APD cannot be diagnosed before the age of 18, but some form
of antisocial behaviour must have been carried out before the age of 15. It states that true psychopaths
have more extreme behaviour than those with APD and are pathological in their degree of callousness
(Gazzaniga et al. 2016 p. 639). So what are the causes of APD? Slower alpha waves have been

Differences Between Hamlet And The Lion King
Fairy tales have helped children deal with things they fear. Now a days, the fairy tales children are
aware are not the Hans Christian Anderson, Studio Ghibli or Brothers Grimm, but Disney. Disney has
taken the typification portrayal in the fairy tales, make it a reality and took it to entertainment industry.
Comparing the original narrative to the Disney version, most of the stories have went through
retellings and alternation; for example Hamlet and The Lion King. Disney has inadvertently neglected
these stories origin and motive. Many agree and have picked up The Lion King, Disney s most
watched and victorious movie till date, as Disney s only original movie; the only movie which is

Conflicts Within A Group And How A Manager Can Bring Up...
Conflicts can happen in everyday life with people and in organizations. Conflicts need to be handled
so that the situation does not escalate further. Most people look at conflicts as a bad situation, but not
all conflicts are bad, some are good, especially when discussing an idea within a group. In an
organization there are times when a conflict may need to happen for an issue to be resolved, but when
this happens the people involved need to look at if this conflict is really necessary to resolve the issue.
How to address conflicts in a group and how a manager can bring up the conflict without making them
worse is what will be discussed next. At many jobs there are projects given that have to be completed
in groups and they re more than likely is going to be people within the group that do not necessarily
agree on how the project should be completed. This can cause a conflict to arise and to resolve this
conflict requires all members of the group to have a say in the resolution. To ensure sufficient
discussion of contentious issues in a work group, I would have one person be in charge of the group.
This person would make sure that everyone had a turn to give their input and I would make it known
to all the group members that what is said cannot be held against the person who says it. When
managers need to bring up unspoken conflicts into the open without making them worse, it may be
best to have a third party present that can ensure that the issue is addressed

Ancient Art Of Persuasion Summary
How to Use the Ancient Art of Persuasion to Sell Anything
Let me introduce you to a man you may or may not have heard of, Mortimer J. Adler. This man, in
1952, sold a million dollars worth of books simply because he had to. He had been working on a 54

the set about ready to be released he ran into the problem of his publisher not having the funds for the

With nothing to do but to take action, Adler sent letters to 1000 potential clients, and received a few
weeks later 250 checks, which would be worth $4500 in today s currency.

General Lee had vital victories against the Potomac army until reaching Gettysburg in 1863, despite
being undermanned and poorly supplied. One example of General Lee being undermanned is during
his victory at Chancellorsville where Lee was forced to divide his army three times in the face of the
enemy while being outnumbered two to one (Reid 150). This passage taken from Reid s book gives a
good demonstration as to what General Lee had to face in multiple crucial battles during the war. Lee
could muster up only half the size of Hooker s 65,000 men (Reid 152), two to one odds are extremely
difficult to fight against in any situation but especially fighting with less than standard supplied
soldiers. Even with the odds Lee believed that small armies could beat big ones (Reid 18) and Lee had
tremendous confidence in his troops and his strategy. One of the main reason this battle was won by
the confederates is the stellar flanking techniques drawn up by General Lee. This sizable victory over
the union forces, commanded by Major General Joseph Hooker, was arguably the biggest of General
Lee s military career. Even this victory at Chancellorsville being such an overwhelming victory for the
South it came at the cost of Stonewall Jackson s mortal injury. With this crucial loss of Stonewall, who
was an irreplaceable lieutenant to General Lee, the Southern cause was soon to come

Annotated Bibliography On Personalized Medicine
Personalized medicine can lead to the development of great discoveries that could revolutionize the
world. The research of personalized medicine is new and costly but that is not the only setback this
new science must face. Personalized medicine has also presented issues of race and gender that cannot
be silenced until further research is conducted. It is clear that personalized medicine could provide
great benefits for fighting illness, but it can lead to issues of underrepresentation of race and concerns
of gender in terms of drug safety and with the little that is known right now the cost outweigh the
benefits. The need for new and more effective treatment continues to increase and personalized
medicine appears to be the answer to our prayers. With further research personalized medicine could
revolutionize pharmaceuticals and to go out on a limb even find a cure for aids and other cancers. But
it is too early to have high expectations for a science that has not been deeply explored. It seems that
the fantasy of finding a perfect match treatment for each individual has raised support from many
institutions including the White House and the FDA. There have been some recent personalized
medicine treatments approved by the FDA and this has lead President Obama to bring forward the
Precision Medicine Initiative (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), which would give millions in
monetary support for research to be conducted on personalized medicine. The issue here is whether

How To Go Back To The Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic Reflection I thought going back to the Dominican Republic for a second year
would feel like being the parents on Christmas morning: you get to watch everyone else s reaction to
the stuff you ve already seen, and you just get to sit back and help throw away the wrapping paper. I
thought I had, in a way, already had my transformative moment; I was there to see my Dominican
friends again, to help my HGP friends experience the trip, and to do some good for the people of the
Dominican Republic. Most of the week felt that way. I was still bonding and having fun with the kids,
but it definitely felt like I was there to help more than to experience. I felt more emotionally protected,
and it wasn t until I was saying goodbye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s not something that can be quantified; I can t show you pictures of all the houses we built, or of the
rainwater ditch we dug. I don t even think saying that the trip was life changing does it justice,
because the whole concept of life changing is pretty cliché. After all, how could just two weeks in a
country really change your life? Again, you kind of have to be there. So what makes this trip so
unique? What s the takeaway? What did I really learn? Well for one, I can say that I have so much
interest in and respect for Hispanic and especially Dominican culture. Hospitality, acceptance,
kindness, and a welcoming smile are things that are certainly lacking in the states. It may seem
insignificant, but there s something special about walking past a stranger, and not having to put your
head down, make a stern face, and continue in a straight line. But I think the bigger lesson to learn,
though, involves poverty and inequality of opportunity. Two years ago, I could have pulled up tons of
statistics about poverty, and how poor the majority of the world is. The conditions that some people
live under are really just cruel, but it s not the hut made from the leaves that s the cruel thing; it s our
big houses, luxury cars, and designer clothes. Father Don said, Poverty isn t when someone has no
shoes and has to look to a superior to ask for shoes; poverty is when they ask, and the superiors don t
give them anything. This really stuck with me. Poverty isn t

Birth Control Rights Essay
Arguing Birth Control Rights:
Should Women have the Right to Birth Control? Birth control helps to control your menstrual cycle
and helps prevent pregnancies all over the world, in women lives. 98% women in the world are taking
birth control or have taken birth control throughout their life time. On October 6, 2017 Trump
Administration released a new rule stating that any employer with religious or moral objections to
refuse to comply with the Affordable Care Act requirement. The corresponding rule also grants an
exemption for employer s other than publicly traded for profit employers if they object based on
undefined moral reason. In an easier way to understand this Trumps Administration is taking away the

For example, the government has never said anything about the covering of Viagra. Viagra is a
medication used for males which helps men get hard enough to have sex with their sexual partner, but
the government has given harsh rules against birth control which protects girl s future. Since Viagra
and other erection pill were covered by insurance, many feminists would make joke about how men s
sexual pleasure and reproductive rights were being covered but women were still paying out of pocket
for it. In 2012, it was a huge step into the lives of many when women didn t have to pay for birth
control. In fact, in the 21 century birth rates dropped because of the current ways to prevent sex such
as rubber condoms, and birth control (Graff, 2012).
As well many women are scared that without birth control they will be put in rough situation. For an
example, many believe that they will have to decide between putting food on the table and getting
birth control. Dawn Laguens, an Executive Vice President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund,
warns that such an action will put access of women by making it more expensive. (Sharp, 2016). As
well many women are scared without birth control they will have to take other options. UTD is
another type of birth control which is a small T shaped prong, which is placed in the uterus and closes
of the oviducts. On the flip side, Trump s Administration is also very right for many reason, for

Comparing Nietzsche And Freud On Crime And Punishment
Conception of civilization in Nietzsche and Freud in relation to crime and punishment Nietzsche
critiqued modern civilization since the entire scheme of modern society went against his philosophy.
Nietzsche was afraid modern society and religion would bring the individuals to nihilistic voids, as
they would eventually turn into uninteresting herds of controlled animals. Nietzsche wishes the
individuals to achieve self awareness, in that individuals would act upon themselves for what they
truly want, instead of following the social construct. This state of achieving the higher self was
defined as being the overman , which was achieved by redefining one s world, in a purely personal
manner. Thus in some sense, Nietzsche would agree that great men are criminals since they act in a
way that is not deemed good in society and stay true to what they desire. As Nietzsche states, A rebel
can be a miserable and contemptible man; but there is nothing contemptible in a revolt as such and to
be a rebel in view of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man. There are even
cases in which one might have to honor a rebel, because he finds something in our society against
which war ought to be waged he awakens us from our slumber (The Will to Power, pg 391). However,
the state often suppresses these criminals from acting as the overman by demanding rules, which
create fear and guilt and prevent individuals from heightening oneself and also prevent

Essay about Emily Dickinson s Use of Humor and Irony
Emily Dickinson s Use of Humor and Irony
While much of Emily Dickinson s poetry has been described as sad or morose, the poetess did use
humor and irony in many of her poems. This essay will address the humor and/ or irony found in five
of Dickinson s poems: Faith is a Fine Invention, I m Nobody! Who are you?, Some keep the Sabbath
Going to Church and Success Is Counted Sweetest. The attempt will be made to show how Dickinson
used humor and / or irony for the dual purposes of comic relief and to stress an idea or conclusion
about her life and environment expressed by the poetess in the respective poem. The most humorous
or ironic are some of the shorter poems, such as the four lined stanzas of Faith is a Fine Invention and
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem may be partially auto biographical in nature. Dickinson made few attempts during her life
to be taken as more than an armature poetess. On one occasion, she sent a collection of her poems to a
correspondent who was also a published poet. His criticism of the poems devastated Dickinson, and
she never made another attempt towards publishing her works.
In Success..., Dickinson reflects on the nature of success and how, ironically, it can be best appreciated
and understood by those who have not achieved it and have no taste of it. As in Faith ..., Dickinson
powerfully presents her thoughts in a few lines. The poem deals only with one, ironic but universal,
idea in its short length. It is the bitterness expressed at this irony (as found it Dickinson s juxtaposition
of the words sweetest and sorest, separated by two lines) that is most felt by the reader. While the
previous poem expresses the poetess bitterness and sorrow with one aspect of her life, I m Nobody!
Who Are You? uses humor without irony to address another. In this poem, Dickinson style appears
almost child like in its of descriptions including frogs and bogs, as well as the lively energy expressed
by the poem through its use of dashes and brief wording. Dickinson seems to be addressing her
spinster, hermit like existence (I m Nobody) and her preference to it.
The poetess seems to relate that her situation has not left

Love In Later Life Analysis
Love in Later Life: Albert and Marion The film Love.Etc studies five New York couples and
illustrates the diversity of their relationships, while also capturing the progress and tribulations of each
individual journey. The film was made in 2010 and continues to be an example of love in today s
society. Focusing specifically on the elderly couple, Albert and Marion, their relationship is an
example of the many aspects that make up the Family Systems theory. By observing their relationship
from the film, Albert and Marion s marriage provides the audience with the information to detect the
characteristics of the following themes: relationship status, communication style, stressors and
strengths
Background
Albert and Marion both were raised on the same block in Brooklyn, New York. The young couple
shared a love for music. Albert played both the piano and accordion, while Marion had the talent of
writing lyrics. The couple did not meet until ten years after residing on the same street. Albert was
looking for a lyricist and Marion wanted someone to play the instrumental to her music. Once Albert
put a sign in his window stating this, the two had began their relationship. Together the couple has
spent 50 years making music and have made it a goal to attempt to make their music known and
publish a hit song. By 2010, Albert and Marion had been married for 48 years. At one point, Marion
mentions that Albert has loved her children like his own, indicating that he is not the father.

Unauthorized Immigrants In The United States
In 2014, 5.8 million unauthorized immigrants from Mexico lived in the U.S., according to Pew
Research Center (Krogstad). Regulating the number of illegal immigrants from entering the United
States has become an increasingly significant issue for the federal government s agenda after, the
number of unauthorized immigrants reached a peak in 2007 at 12.2 million, when this group made up
4% of the U.S. population (Krogstad). An abundance of proposed solutions have been offered to limit
the steadily increasing number of illegal immigrants from reaching American soil, such as: mandating
E verify, a system that determines whether or a not a person is eligible to work in the United states,
strengthening border security, and fortifying interior enforcement measures in the United States
(Illegal Immigration and Border Security). Another major plan sources from President Donald Trump,
who hopes to build a wall spanning between the United States and Mexico. This idea has ignited
numerous opposing arguments that have picked out its irrationalities, and display how Donald Trump
s proposal to erect a wall generates more complications than benefits. During an off the record
interview with reporters onboard Air Force One, President Trump disclosed more details about his
border wall plan. He states, It s a 2,000 mile border, but you don t need 2,000 miles of wall because
you have a lot of natural barriers. But you ll need anywhere from 700 to 900 miles (Trump). Here he is
explaining that a physical wall will not be necessary throughout the entire length of the United States
Mexico border as there are natural landmarks such as lakes, rivers, and mountains that serve as a
partition between the two countries. President Trump also mentions the possibility of the wall to
include solar panels to provide renewable energy in addition to protecting United States southern
border. Additionally, he elaborates with more detail on the physical appearance of the wall describing
it as a steel wall with openings. (Trump). Donald Trump emphasizes transparency of the wall to ensure
the safety of those in its vicinity. Finally, Trump concludes the interview portion about the wall by
explaining that his proposal has technically already

· What direction is the marketing effort taking, how much is being spent, and are there any
benchmarks? Is a merger still a merger when the respective sizes of the firms are ninety percent and
ten percent? Is it just an acquisition, where the ten percent should quietly accept the culture of the
ninety percent? Whether you call it a merger or an acquisition, each firm has its own culture, and the
smaller entity, if substantially different from the one around it, will continue to survive as a discordant
subculture, unless an effort is made to integrate all the players. Frequent mergers leave little
opportunity for establishing a value added firm culture. The surviving firm s culture is absorption,
which sooner or later like overeating will probably be self destructive. If we truly believe that people
are our most important asset we need to treat them that way. A merger or an acquisition gives us an
opportunity to do well by our people by being honest with them, keeping them in the loop, and giving
them all the information we can as early as we can. Get people in both the merging company and the
company being absorbed together as early as possible. Discuss the issues that were the perceived
potential benefits behind the merger openly and frankly. If Company A s strength is sales and they are
absorbing Company B in part because of B s distribution capabilities, make sure A s distribution

Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis Of My Existence
The Metamorphosis of Franz Kafka
A picture of my existence... would show a useless wooden stake covered in snow... stuck loosely at a
slant in the ground in a ploughed field on the edge of a vast open plain on a dark winter night . Franz
Kafka
The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung 1912), Franz Kafka s best known short story, is a master work
of incredible psychological, sociological and existential malaise. Although his points are simple and
straightforward, this richly layered and textured story is open to many interpreta tions, making it
complex, yet critical to decipher. There is an incredible amount of theories based off of what this story
could possibly symbolize or represent, but it is of the autobiographical in terpretation that is
undeniably the most enlightening. This interpretation allows the reader to gen uinely understand the
tale on an intense level that would not be able to be reached, otherwise. In order to gain true insight on
the autobiographical approach to The Metamorphosis, a brief examination of his life is required; his
thoughts, his beliefs, the acknowledgment of the cruel circumstances of his life, especially his home
life, must be made clear that the anguish of his own world is the model for the themes in his stories.
Born on July 3, 1883, in the Jewish ghetto of Prague in the Czech Republic, Franz Kafka was the
eldest son in his Jewish middle class, German speaking, family. From the start he was shaping out to
be an outsider which was

  • 2. A Girl Like Me, By Dr. Kenneth Clark Racism has always been a hot topic issue in America. Starting, of course, with slavery and enduring long after its abolishment. Many try to put an end to it, but this is one of those things that will take many, many years to completely eradicate from society. In this paper, I will briefly discuss both the Clark Doll Experiment and the film A Girl like Me, discuss my opinion on racism in America, demonstrate how racism effects the schools, and discuss how and why my interpretation of this compares with the views of another culture. This transcript discusses the Clark Doll Experiment, a study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Clark and his wife Mamie in 1939 to test children s self perception related to race. This transcript talks about how the test was done on mainly African American children, using two dolls, a black and white one. It then briefly talks about the short film A Girl like Me, and its director and creator Kiri David. Along with that, the article explains how this experiment helped persuade the Supreme Court during the Brown V. Board of Education case in 1954 to desegregate schools. By providing proof of the psychological damage that was being done to black children attending segregated schools. Going back to the discussion about Kiri Davis film, it talks about how she used the same experiment, and got close to the same results as Clark did when he conducted it. • 3. Manifest Destiny Research Paper Because of Manifest Destiny the United States faced potential wars and a great deal of inequality. Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While Manifest Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and promoted war which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression. Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it, said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed for the U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. Although the U.S. was able to acquire California and New Mexico through this act, it was not a valid reason to invade Mexican territory and purloin land that did not belong to the United States. This is an example of inequality because people who were not European were practically ignored and viewed as unimportant which gave them less rights than everyone else. The article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land from Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. This is another example of inequality because Americans tried to take land from those who were seen as lesser than them so they could have more for themselves and leave Natives, Central Americans and Europeans with nothing. Manifest Destiny was not an acceptable excuse to take land and rights from people because they weren t considered fully American and therefore just gave the government an excuse to control those people so they could take what they wanted from ... • 4. Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders From a brief reading of Under the Influence , by Scott Russell Sanders, one can understand being shamed and being condemned for actions that is not their own fault, but instead brought upon themselves as a consequence of others. Son of an alcoholic, Sanders was a deprived man, who believes himself a criminal. However, the crime, which he has set in stone is a debt that can truly never be fulfilled, because the victim is already dead. To exact life into the meaning over Sander s adversity is to invade within the depths of the man s skeleton closet; by understanding the meaning behind inner privacy between father and son. The bond between father and son can be said as the man s greatest fortunate or self inflicted trauma, in Sander s reality it proves to be the latter, as it latches itself on to his son. The series of misfortune events continues delegate, not only in Sander s past reality, but also in his present. Writing as a memoir to dead father, writing as a note to his son, and writing as an outlet of relief can all be explained as the purposes of the narrative. However, this offsets who it is actually to himself, as a reminder to not become his father. Although tribulations can destroy and wreak havoc on a person, it prepares individuals to take on the complete misery of life. The relationship between Sanders and his father cannot be considered a tragic ending, in another way it is a fundamental part of Sanders perseverance against the grievances of daily strife. I ... • 5. The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violence by any conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall meaning of the passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in The Cask of Amontillado should be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into the catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of skeletons stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss. The air becomes thinner, forcing the torches to become increasingly dim as the pair head deeper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and walling him in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an integral part of The Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story. Violence also plays a pivotal role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family is Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor s motive for murder becomes clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form, upsetting him, and driving him into killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence is also portrayed literally in his family coat of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of a blue field. In short, violence provides the foundation for the story s plot, and plays a pivotal role in establishing the mood in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Green Colleges Noel Perrin Summary Noel Perrin s essay The Greener Campuses: An Idiosyncratic Guide is a compilation of the eleven most environmentally friendly college in the United States. Noel explains that many colleges may offer classes on environmental studies, but there are very few colleges that actually do their part in keeping the earth clean. He adds the fact that our planet is on the brink of permanent degeneration if action is not taken soon; that is why he is calling out colleges, which are large institutions with large carbon footprints, to do what they can to help save the planet. The following is Noel s list of colleges and why he believes they can be considered green schools. Tolkien is held by many as one of the greats within English literature. He was a master of writing and teaching, and he showed excellence in academia, prose, and poetry. He left an everlasting impact on the world of literature by using his great understanding of language and his talent of creating mythical lands of consistent excellence. Tolkien started his life in tragedy, but used his circumstances to his advantage in his latter life and within his literary career. A man of higher intellect than most was Tolkien, which is what contributed to making him an amazing writer and poet. On January 3, 1892 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born to Mabel and Arthur Tolkien in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Arthur Tolkien was a bank clerk from the U.K. who left for South Africa in the 1890s for better chances of promotion (Doughan). Mabel Tolkien, maiden name Suffield, was from the city of Birmingham in the West Midlands of Britain. At the age of eighteen Mabel Suffield became engaged to Arthur Tolkien. The two were destined for marriage, but Mabel s father forbade them from marrying for three years. • 8. Etoricoxib a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Used in... Introduction What is Etoricoxib? Etoricoxib, also known as Arcoxia1, is more commonly known as a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID), or as a cyclo oxygenase 2 inhibitor (COX 2). Therapeutically, it is specified for the symptomatic relief of conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis2,3, and overall for their analgesic and anti inflammatory properties. Arthritis is a chronic disease affecting up to ten million people in the UK. Approximately 14% of all primary care visits are for musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction, and can be extremely debilitating if not treated in an efficient manner2, 4. The dose should not exceed 120 mg. Mechanism NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2). This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for inflammation9. The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which cause inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy stomach and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1 and COX 2. These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers, amongst others. NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side effects. In comparison to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2 inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the prostaglandin production, consequently meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related side effects9. Figure 1 Mechanism of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs6 Pharmacokinetic properties Etoricoxib has a unique chemical structure when compared with other similar COX 2 inhibitors. • 9. Relationship Between Individual Identities And... Our everyday behaviour, whether at work or at home is believed to be shaped through our individual identities (Watson, 2006), however the extent to which these individual identities are shaped by the organisation is questionable. This essay will scrutinize the relationship between individual identities and organisational culture, looking at whether individual identities are actually shaped by the corporate culture, whilst reflecting on whether or not experiences outside of work can also have an influence. Firstly, looking at definitions of culture and how it controls behaviour through a soft bureaucracy will allow the development of ideas of whether this shapes the individual identities in an organisation in the same way that rules would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than using rules and acting as a bureaucracy to achieve the corporate goals, a culture aims to act as guidance and shape the organisation almost in the way of a soft bureaucracy. Instead of controlling employees through rules, organisational culture aims to determine the behaviour of employees and implement control in a very subtle way (McAuley et al, 2014), to ensure that the values and norms are consistent and behaviours are attached to meaning that reflect and pursue the goals of the organisation. By encouraging people to become part of the culture and making goals consistent, it brings about this idea of reshaping individuals within the work place. In this context, individual identity refers to a work based self concept, constituted of a combination of organizational, occupational, and other identities that shapes the roles a person adopts and the corresponding ways he or she behaves when performing his or her work (Walsh and Gordon, 2008, p47). This highlights the idea that in different organisations, individuals will act differently in line with either the rules the company sets out or its culture. However, it is important to recognize that identity within the workplace is only one aspect of an individual s identity. To further this, Watson, 2006, p96) highlights the concept of process relational thinking and how this implies that identities are adaptable and tend to change as the person shapes and reshapes ... Lifestyle magazine are magazines that tells the audience about the lifestyle they live and can have an impact on their lives as their views can be subverted by the ideology of the magazine. This ideology comes from the creators of the magazine; they put what they think instead of what the public thinks about a certain topic. In this writing i am going to talk about what the lifestyle magazines do in order to attract specific audience and how they achieve in targeting specific audience. The two lifestyle magazines that i am going to talk about are FHM and Cosmopolitan magazine. These magazines were released on november 2013 and the target audience between the two has links and oppositions. On both magazines, the central image is the image of females; which suggests that these magazines are targeted at female. But, on the front of these magazines it is a picture of seductive females which implies that the audience is different and possibly males as they would get attracted. I am going to start by analysing how FHM targets their audience and keep their loyalty so that they would not look for another magazine to replace the FHM magazine they currently hold. This magazine is promoting anti feminism as the main central image is of a woman with a seductive look which is representing woman in a negative manner. For years the amount African Black Rhinoceros has been dropping significantly; the problem may be unfixable at this point. Unfortunately, many animals on earth are facing the same tragedy. These animals are primarily from a time that no human kept records. They are living, breathing history that will die off because the superior species could not protect them. In this picture by Gonzaga Manzo, the Black Rhinoceros is being worked on in an auto shop by two stumped mechanics. They stare puzzled at the large animal, not being able to see how to fix the problem. Extinction Can t be Fixed is printed in white letters in the upper right corner, meaning that extinction cannot be reversed with tools found in a repair shop. In fact, it cannot be reversed at all. Gonzaga Manzo, a Spanish artist, created this image as a part of a campaign series for the World Wide Fund for Nature for species facing extreme extinction: the Black rhinoceros. This powerful image was primarily to stop hunting the animals, but also to raise awareness of the dire situation. The Black Rhinoceros has become extinct in twelve African countries. They are being hunted for their horn, which is used in certain pain killing drugs and thus is highly sought after. The number of natural disasters has risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are increasing exponentially and creating expanding amounts of destruction each year. A recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in Louisiana August 2016. This paper will discuss the type of disaster, characteristics of the disaster, and the application of disaster management stages. Current Natural Disaster The morning of August 13th, Baton Rouge and much of southern Louisiana were devastated by extreme flooding after 20 inches of rain hit the area in a 48 hour period. Rescue teams are calling it the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy. This flood has damaged 60,000 homes, leaving an estimated 30,000 people displaced from their homes (CNN, 2016). The federal government declared this a major disaster killing at least 13 people, flooding thousands of homes, and prompting thousands of water rescues (The Weather Channel, 2016). Type of Disaster There are three different types of disasters, man made, natural, or a combination of both (Nies McEwen, 2015). The flooding in Louisiana was a natural disaster. It is clear some are for distinct medical treatment and others are for recreational use. In the United States, marijuana has been and continues to be a very controversial drug. Some states have allowed marijuana consumption for medicinal purposes, while others have completely outlawed the drug. Those who are against the legalization and regulation of marijuana suggest the economical and health risk associated with consumption of the drug are too high. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in Marijuana Facts 1). From an outsider s perspective, one has to ask why is there so much tension and hesitation in legalizing marijuana? If alcohol is the direct cause of many deaths, while marijuana has not been responsible for any, it only makes sense that our health would not be our greatest concern in legalizing the drug. Also, it is important to understand marijuana consumption is less susceptible to overuse than alcohol or other drugs (Marijuana 10:477). Despite this, critics often argue that marijuana is a gateway to other more potent and harmful drugs. According to Dr. Halbach of the World Health Organization there is no pharmacological link between cannabis and opiates (Marijuana 10:477). This demonstrates the physiological unlikelihood of marijuana being a stepping stone to other more potent drugs containing opiates. Marijuana does have drawbacks and side effects, as any other drug whether medicinal or recreational. However, putting the drug in perspective helps one to understand the contradiction in legalizing other drugs while continuing to ignore marijuana even though it can beneficial in different capacities. One major way the legalization and regulation of marijuana can benefit society is for medical use or prescription by a doctor. Critics of this may be quick to assert this is an excuse to entertain personal interest and satisfaction one would achieve from the drug. However, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

System Design Failures Of Vlsi Circuits SYSTEM DESIGN FAILURES Introduction: Simulation in VLSI circuits are used to evaluate codes that are used in certain applications to improve the integration process and in the Printed Circuit Board Fabrication process. Simulation is done to determine the fault in the process. It has great role in Printed Circuit Board fabrication. In VLSI Testing simulations are classified mainly into Exhaustive Simulation and Non Exhaustive Simulation. [1] Exhaustive Simulation: This process that involves applying all possible inputs to the circuit under test (CUT) by simulating them and checking to see if the output responses are identical for every input. The major drawback with this process is the number of test patterns. [2] Non Exhaustive Simulation: This process involves deterministic compact and pseudo random test sets. This will test the circuit within acceptable time and cost. This reduced test set may be based upon fault models, particularly the stuck at model. However, it is often required to estimate how effective is this non exhaustive test set is in detecting possible faults in the circuit under test (CUT). Example: SRT Algorithm. Such issues that have been addressed by simulation include, but not limited to; improving patients workflows and throughput time, reducing waiting times, resources allocation and optimization, staff scheduling and development of decision support systems (DSS). Discrete Event Simulation (DES), Agent Based Simulation (ABS) and System Dynamics are the main simulation methods that have been used for healthcare systems modelling and analysis [2]. Although each of these methods has its own capabilities, they exhibit some limitations [3]. If we go back several centuries early old English (450 c.850) to the late modern English (c.1950 ) we would list many changes that affected the English language. In this report, I will argue one important incident that had influenced the English language a lot; what had happened in the late seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century lead a major shifting from the complete authority of the grammarians on the English language to the lexicographers control and decision making of the language??!! II. To start with, I have to mention the most important factor of our subject which is Samuel Johnson s Dictionary of the English Language , that had been published on April 15, 1755. Samuel Johnson who was born in September 18, 1709 gave his dictionary its prestige and made it a part of history as it was first published after eight years of hard work. This distinctive job required six assistants to list 40,000 words and mark this work as The English Language Dictionary of the century. This means that Sony needs to find other ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but they don t seem aggressive enough in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago, Sony partnered up with Wind Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their online sales with computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow them to compete with iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that happening anytime soon. Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to distribute Sony s music since they are one of the largest record labels in the world. • 35. Conflicts Within A Group And How A Manager Can Bring Up... Conflicts can happen in everyday life with people and in organizations. Conflicts need to be handled so that the situation does not escalate further. Most people look at conflicts as a bad situation, but not all conflicts are bad, some are good, especially when discussing an idea within a group. In an organization there are times when a conflict may need to happen for an issue to be resolved, but when this happens the people involved need to look at if this conflict is really necessary to resolve the issue. How to address conflicts in a group and how a manager can bring up the conflict without making them worse is what will be discussed next. At many jobs there are projects given that have to be completed in groups and they re more than likely is going to be people within the group that do not necessarily agree on how the project should be completed. This can cause a conflict to arise and to resolve this conflict requires all members of the group to have a say in the resolution. To ensure sufficient discussion of contentious issues in a work group, I would have one person be in charge of the group. This person would make sure that everyone had a turn to give their input and I would make it known to all the group members that what is said cannot be held against the person who says it. When managers need to bring up unspoken conflicts into the open without making them worse, it may be best to have a third party present that can ensure that the issue is addressed ... This passage taken from Reid s book gives a good demonstration as to what General Lee had to face in multiple crucial battles during the war. Lee could muster up only half the size of Hooker s 65,000 men (Reid 152), two to one odds are extremely difficult to fight against in any situation but especially fighting with less than standard supplied soldiers. Even with the odds Lee believed that small armies could beat big ones (Reid 18) and Lee had tremendous confidence in his troops and his strategy. One of the main reason this battle was won by the confederates is the stellar flanking techniques drawn up by General Lee. The research of personalized medicine is new and costly but that is not the only setback this new science must face. Personalized medicine has also presented issues of race and gender that cannot be silenced until further research is conducted. It is clear that personalized medicine could provide great benefits for fighting illness, but it can lead to issues of underrepresentation of race and concerns of gender in terms of drug safety and with the little that is known right now the cost outweigh the benefits. The need for new and more effective treatment continues to increase and personalized medicine appears to be the answer to our prayers. With further research personalized medicine could revolutionize pharmaceuticals and to go out on a limb even find a cure for aids and other cancers. But it is too early to have high expectations for a science that has not been deeply explored. It seems that the fantasy of finding a perfect match treatment for each individual has raised support from many institutions including the White House and the FDA. • 45. Comparing Nietzsche And Freud On Crime And Punishment Conception of civilization in Nietzsche and Freud in relation to crime and punishment Nietzsche critiqued modern civilization since the entire scheme of modern society went against his philosophy. Nietzsche was afraid modern society and religion would bring the individuals to nihilistic voids, as they would eventually turn into uninteresting herds of controlled animals. Nietzsche wishes the individuals to achieve self awareness, in that individuals would act upon themselves for what they truly want, instead of following the social construct. This state of achieving the higher self was defined as being the overman , which was achieved by redefining one s world, in a purely personal manner. Thus in some sense, Nietzsche would agree that great men are criminals since they act in a way that is not deemed good in society and stay true to what they desire. As Nietzsche states, A rebel can be a miserable and contemptible man; but there is nothing contemptible in a revolt as such and to be a rebel in view of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man. There are even cases in which one might have to honor a rebel, because he finds something in our society against which war ought to be waged he awakens us from our slumber (The Will to Power, pg 391). However, the state often suppresses these criminals from acting as the overman by demanding rules, which create fear and guilt and prevent individuals from heightening oneself and also prevent ... Regulating the number of illegal immigrants from entering the United States has become an increasingly significant issue for the federal government s agenda after, the number of unauthorized immigrants reached a peak in 2007 at 12.2 million, when this group made up 4% of the U.S. population (Krogstad). An abundance of proposed solutions have been offered to limit the steadily increasing number of illegal immigrants from reaching American soil, such as: mandating E verify, a system that determines whether or a not a person is eligible to work in the United states, strengthening border security, and fortifying interior enforcement measures in the United States (Illegal Immigration and Border Security). Another major plan sources from President Donald Trump, who hopes to build a wall spanning between the United States and Mexico. This idea has ignited numerous opposing arguments that have picked out its irrationalities, and display how Donald Trump s proposal to erect a wall generates more complications than benefits. During an off the record interview with reporters onboard Air Force One, President Trump disclosed more details about his border wall plan. He states, It s a 2,000 mile border, but you don t need 2,000 miles of wall because you have a lot of natural barriers. But you ll need anywhere from 700 to 900 miles (Trump). Here he is explaining that a physical wall will not be necessary throughout the entire length of the United States Mexico border as there are natural landmarks such as lakes, rivers, and mountains that serve as a partition between the two countries. President Trump also mentions the possibility of the wall to include solar panels to provide renewable energy in addition to protecting United States southern border. Additionally, he elaborates with more detail on the physical appearance of the wall describing it as a steel wall with openings. (Trump). Donald Trump emphasizes transparency of the wall to ensure the safety of those in its vicinity. Is a merger still a merger when the respective sizes of the firms are ninety percent and ten percent? Is it just an acquisition, where the ten percent should quietly accept the culture of the ninety percent? Whether you call it a merger or an acquisition, each firm has its own culture, and the smaller entity, if substantially different from the one around it, will continue to survive as a discordant subculture, unless an effort is made to integrate all the players. Frequent mergers leave little opportunity for establishing a value added firm culture. The surviving firm s culture is absorption, which sooner or later like overeating will probably be self destructive. If we truly believe that people are our most important asset we need to treat them that way. A merger or an acquisition gives us an opportunity to do well by our people by being honest with them, keeping them in the loop, and giving them all the information we can as early as we can. Get people in both the merging company and the company being absorbed together as early as possible. Discuss the issues that were the perceived potential benefits behind the merger openly and frankly. Franz Kafka The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung 1912), Franz Kafka s best known short story, is a master work of incredible psychological, sociological and existential malaise. Although his points are simple and straightforward, this richly layered and textured story is open to many interpreta tions, making it complex, yet critical to decipher. There is an incredible amount of theories based off of what this story could possibly symbolize or represent, but it is of the autobiographical in terpretation that is undeniably the most enlightening. This interpretation allows the reader to gen uinely understand the tale on an intense level that would not be able to be reached, otherwise. In order to gain true insight on the autobiographical approach to The Metamorphosis, a brief examination of his life is required; his thoughts, his beliefs, the acknowledgment of the cruel circumstances of his life, especially his home life, must be made clear that the anguish of his own world is the model for the themes in his stories. Born on July 3, 1883, in the Jewish ghetto of Prague in the Czech Republic, Franz Kafka was the eldest son in his Jewish middle class, German speaking, family.
