Cross Sex Relationships Are Becoming Increasingly More...
Cross sex relationships are becoming increasingly more popular than ever before. According to
Schoonover and McEwan of Predicting the audience challenge in cross sex friendships, men and
women have complimenting communication styles and this is what makes cross sex friendships so
appealing as it grows to be more accepted (Schoonover, McEwan, 2014). In analyzing the benefits for
both sexes, the most significant challenges, and the cultural or societal challenges, it can be concluded
that while cross sex friendships come with their own trials, it can be a very rewarding relationship.
Who Benefits More Both men and women are able to reap the benefits of cross sex friendships
because they are given insight into unfamiliar territory. Seeking advice about the opposite sex with a
friend who is of the same sex does not always give the most accurate perspective and so that sex is not
represented. On the downside, women who have too many male friends may be seen as promiscuous
in this society because it is not a good look to spend too much time with men alone. This double
standard is why women may not benefit from maintaining many cross sex relationships. For this
reason, men have the greatest benefit for maintaining cross sex relationships which is why they may
be known to engage in them more frequently. Men Men benefit from cross sex friendships because
they seek out female companionship to receive a different type of attention their same sex
relationships may not be offering

Emily Dickinson And The Village Blacksmith
The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This poem is about an honest,
hardworking blacksmith who provides for his family by working long hours at the forge. And the
message of the poem is through your life you will eventually change the world by the things you do,
and you make your mark on the world by looking hard every day. There is a Certain Slant of Light is a
poem by Emily Dickinson. In the poem it describes the feeling of hurt and oppression ironically using
light as the instrument of hurting. Throughout this essay I will be explaining and going into detail of
the literary elements found in each individually, but also found in both of these poems. The Village
Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision.
Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says,
Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses
enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one
caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a
common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis
like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the
message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process
that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A
certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look.
Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to
demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the
word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason
that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period
when it was written. I believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver
different messages, and things to think about while reading this

Roanoke Voyage Research Paper
The Roanoke Voyages were England s first attempt at settling in North America. Sir Walter Raleigh
asked for Queen Elizabeth s permission to begin exploration and she agreed to let him organize the
expedition. However, he was not allowed to be physically involved in the actual voyages because she
believed he was a valuable asset to her and did not want him travelling far away. The first expedition,
in 1584, was an exploratory venture. Sir Walter Raleigh arranged for two ships to begin the
exploration. The two captains of the ships were Arthur Barlowe and Philip Amadas. They discovered
fertile land with plenty of game. The area, near the Pamlico and Currituck, would be a great place to
begin settlement. In addition to their own accounts of the journey, they also brought back two native
Americans, named Manteo and Wanchese, to help the English learn more about the land they may
eventually colonize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This voyage was more of a military venture. It has since been named the Lane Settlement , after the
veteran Ralph who helped command the voyage and was later named governor of the settlement.
During his time in the New World , Lane directed parties to the North and West, to find more
information about potential places for settlement. Natives told tales of potential Gold mines and
calmer waters for better ship harbors. Hostility and violences between Lane s men and their primary
food and supply source, the Secotan tribe, forced the settlers to return to England. Fortunately, they
returned with detailed accounts of their experiences. Two major contributors of this information were
Thomas Harriot and John White. Harriot returned with descriptions of local plants, animals, and
people while White had drawn drawn useful maps along with watercolors of landscapes and natives he
had seen during his time spent at the Lane

Journalist Role Analysis
The journalist role is important because it provides the world with facts and the answers. Often times
politicians or public figures may not tell the world the whole truth. But because of journalist, they take
time to investigate the whole story and then provide citizens with correct news. Not only do journalist
investigate the news, journalist also take time to interview these public figures and ask the questions
that viewers want to ask. For example, Barbara Walters is known for her skills of asking the questions
that most are scared to ask. But because she is fearless and true journalist she asks these tough
questions and gets down to the nitty gritty. This is all made possible through the first amendment.
The first amendment grants journalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are multiple media outlets that provides citizens with a bunch of different perspectives. For
instance, FOX news may give you a more bias opinion on Donald Trump and ABC may give you a
more bias opinion on Hillary Clinton. But because of these two outlets being opposites it gives you a
well rounded view of the election as a whole. Not only do we have national networks covering the
election we also have black media outlets like Bet News, TheGrio, The Root and many more that
provide African Americans with the black perspective on voting. Because of these outlets they let us
know the truth on who we should cast our ballot for in this upcoming election. They also ask the
questions that we as a community have but may not have the direct access to ask personally.
Furthermore, I believe Social Media plays an awesome role in the election because it lets citizens
know information right away. Because of social media, in the matter of seconds we are made aware of
breaking news. Social media also makes it harder for nominees to hide from the truth. People can
instantly tweet and video record what the nominees say and post on social media. Because of this it
helps keep viewers/citizens

Comparing Beowulf And Grendel And Beowulf
Since it was first discovered and translated, Beowulf has represented one of the finest examples of
heroic poetry. As a tale reflecting the noble deeds of a hero, it uniquely expresses the cultural values of
the Anglo Saxons from whom it originated since heroes often do reflect the best of what their culture
deems worthwhile. However, modern adaptations of this work express a different set of cultural
values; values unique to modern society. When comparing the translated poem, Beowulf, to the 2005
motion picture, Beowulf and Grendel, it is obvious to see that our morals and ideas are reflected on
this ancient poem. The movie, Beowulf and Grendel, and the epic, Beowulf, are prime examples of the
radical cultural differences that have evolved over time. In Beowulf, the epic, we see very simplistic
characters. Beowulf, for example, is simply a hero who kills monsters. That is all he has ever wanted
in his life and that is all that defines him. In the motion picture, we see Beowulf as a man that has
risen from his unique childhood and has made a name for himself. We see Beowulf as a flawed human
being; not as a muscle head hero who is never defeated. This humanizes Beowulf and makes him a
more appealing character that people can identify with. In the epic, Grendel is a demonic monster who
kills for no reason; he is only reason considered evil, because he does not pay the blood price after
killing someone. In the motion picture, Grendel is made to look more human;

The Effects of Memory Improvement by Saying Words Aloud
THE EFFECTS OF MEMORY IMPROVEMENT BY SAYING WORDS ALOUD Abstract This
experiment proposes to study the effects of memory improvement by reciting and saying the words
out loud to oneself. Participants will be assigned to either two different types of conditions and will
then be required to recall the information of words as best as they can. It is assumed that a higher level
of generating the targeted words into memory is improved when readers say the words out loud to
themselves. Thus, the hypothesis concluded is that people who say words out loud after reading them
are expected to improve their memory in retaining information. The Effects of Memory Improvement

However, recent research done by Reynolds amp; Besner (2008) suggests that contrary to the view
that by vocalizing words out loud is entirely an automatic memory encoding, it in fact requires some
form of attention. Previous research was investigated further where participants were exposed to
reading lexicon and pseudo homophones aloud that required the use of central attention. In research
done by Blais amp; Besner (2007), repetition of words of lexical representations suggests longer
persistence in the early memory processing, as cited by Reynolds amp; Malley (2008). It was
discussed earlier that possibly the mere action of vocalizing words for memory recall will encourage
memory improvement at a higher level, thus making a person to be able to better retrieve previous
information if need be (Macleod et al., 2010). In another study, Kappel, Harfard, Burns amp;
Anderson, (1973) gave another possible explanation on the advantage of reading words out loud,
indicating that serial voiced recall were found to be superior for the later positions, and these results
replicates previous experiments done by Murray (1966) and Conrad amp; Hull (1968). However,
Kappel et al., (1973) proposed that the results reported suggest that differences in participants level of
processing information to memory

Involvement Of Online Social Network
Abstract:
Involvement of online social network:
Online social networks today are medium to communicate. Communication includes sharing video
files, audio files and Text messages. These messages and files include some useful data and also
unwanted data and also spam data. There are some complex methods involved in Online Social
Network Management in order to control this data.
Existing System:
For example, Facebook has a facility where users can specify who can message them(eg: Friends,
Friends of Friends options are provided in Facebook). But, Facebook doesn t have a facility where
users can block some kind of messages. No content based preference is supported and there will be no
control over unreliable messages such as vulgar and political ones.
Proposed System: Proposed system includes facility to control unreliable messages by using filtering
rules. Here the user is given facility to block some kind of messages from displaying on user s wall.
Here web content mining techniques are used in order to recognize patterns of words and also some
filtering rules are applied to filter given messages.
Data mining Techniques Involved: Filtering is one of the data mining technique s which involves
filtering text messages in order to avoid spam messages. In online social networking users are given
the ability to control their wall and the ability to hide unwanted messages from displaying on their
wall. Here users are given direct control over their messages.

Alcohols Lab Report
The purpose of this investigation is to burn selected alcohols of different molecular structure in a
controlled environment to compare the magnitude and rates of energy release.
Fuels are any kind of substance that, when burnt, produces chemical or nuclear energy that can be
used for work. More accurately, fuels may be defined as a naturally occurring or artificially prepared
combustible carbonaceous material (Palanna, 2009). One of the most common fuels that is still used
today is charcoal. Charcoal is the remains of burnt wood which was discovered to be a good fuel
source and was used to melt metals.
When fuels are burnt the majority of the energy released was stored within the weak double bond of
molecular oxygen found in the fuel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way to improve the result obtained would be the use of an insulator that can contain a higher
level of heat than the plain aluminium and steel shrouds. The original design concept incorporated this
by wrapping the steel shroud with glass fibre and having small pipes with holes cut into the fibre for
gasses to escape. It was estimated that the original design would yield a percentage of heat trapped to
be equal to ~50%. The second factor that could slightly improve the outcome is the use of a fume
cupboard. This would completely eliminate the chance of dynamic forces affecting the reaction while
still allowing the reaction plenty of oxygen to

The Causes Of Organized Crime In Italy In The 18th Century
Crime figures show that Italy is ranked the 4th highest total crimes amongst the EU states in 2002.
Their total is 2.2 million crimes behind the UK(6.52 Million), Germany(6.51 Million) and France(3.8
Million). This means globally they have the highest percentage of crimes, which is 24.5% of its
population. (Italy Crime Stats) In the 18th century, organized crime in Italy and its criminal
organizations have infiltrated the social and economic life of many regions particularly in Southern
Italy. Sicilain Mafia is suposedly the most notorious. They say that this would later expand into some
foreign countries including the United States.
There are five mafia like organizations that are known to Italy and they are: Cosa Nostra of Sicily,
Ndrangheta Of Calabri, These two are considered to be the biggest cocaine mugglers in Europe, and
Camorra of Naples, are the oldest of five, having started development between 1500 and 1800. When
the 20th century came about there were two new organizations that came about, Stidda and Sacra
Corona Unita of Apulia.(Organized)
With all of the above being said there should be some type of way that we can make sure that the
cocain is not being sumggled into these places. Man y crimes in the US are the same as Italy, the way
they are handled are very different. The FBI refers to the gangs listed above as Italian Organized
Crime (IOC). FBI has estimated that with all the four groups together they have around 25,000
members and 250,000

Abuse In America
The two kinds of abuse, physical and mental, can have dramatic affects on every individual. Physical
abuse is typically apparent, and easy to recognize. Slavery in America was considered a form of
physical abuse and it was easy to see through hangings, lashes, and brutality demonstrated that African
Americans were under physical abuse. Mental abuse, however, is often difficult to argue as bruises do
not show on one s arm from constant mistreatment through unequal pay, educational inequality, and
racism. Black Americans continue to face both kinds of abuse and are subjected to consistent
inequality. Because of the tone of one s skin, black Americans receive poor education and a lower
chance for success. Although physical abuse toward black Americans ... Show more content on

In 1861, when slavery was still prevalent, Harriet Jacobs introduces through the text, The Church and
Slavery, that men, women, and children were taught that they [were] rebellious sinners...[their] hearts

to live in a racist country. Our history derives from black individuals taught that they were not worthy
of god, that because of the color of their skin they were evil. Because black Americans were told that
their opinions and beliefs were wrong and constantly consumed with racist opinion from slave owner,
blacks were not able to stand up for themselves. Black individuals were not able to stop the abuse of

Ted Cruz Analysis
Interpreting The Constitution: Is Ted Cruz Eligible for Presidency?
Is Ted Cruz American enough for the presidency? Recently Donald Trump has made claims that Ted
Cruz is not eligible for presidency. Cruz was born in Canada by a father who is Cuban and a mother
who is a natural born U.S. Citizen. This debate will escalate the closer we get to the primaries.
Jonathan H. Adler is a writer from The Washington Post. in his article titled Yes, Ted Cruz is a Natural
Born Citizen he argues that Cruz is in fact eligible. He explains that Cruz was born in Canada;
however, his mother s residency makes him a U.S. citizen. They further explain that the constitution
does not mean U.S. Soil when it says natural born. Adler is right; Ted Cruz is eligible for presidency
because of his mother s U.S. Citizenship.
Adler says that Cruz is indeed eligible because of his mother s residency status.
His father is a U.S. Citizen; however, he is not a natural born citizen. This makes Cruz a natural born
citizen; his mother s status transfers to him. He explains that if children are born on foreign soil they

yet a child born south of the border, even by a few miles, by legal U.S. Citizens is considered to be not

Comparing Poems 100 I Believe And Ars Poetry
Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. Ars Poetica #100: I Believe by
Elizabeth Alexander and Poetry by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author
feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry
can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose.
There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful. One way is when
Alexander says, Poetry (here I hear myself loudest) is the human voice... This line is saying poetry
allows a person to express themselves. As she speaks at her loudest, she puts emphasis on the human
voice, making it authoritative. Another way Alexander expresses the purpose of poetry is when she
says, Poetry is what you find in the dirt in the corner, over hear on the bus, God in the details... This

Alexander positions her poem in stanzas, while Moore s is a free verse (hers does not follow a regular

Alexander defines poetry when she says, Poetry, I tell my students, is idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic
meaning distinctive, special, or individualistic. Her repetition of using poetry is in each stanza
explains what poetry is and is not. Moore, on the other hand, uses more imagery. She uses some
metaphors and similes. Moore is also very detailed in her description of what poetry is and how
valuable good poetry can be. A simile Moore uses is, The immovable critic twitching his skin like a
horse that feels a flea... Any person will instantly think of a horse, twitching with fleas. Some
metaphors she uses are imaginary gardens with real toads in them. With this metaphor, Moore insists
that true poetry should include both imagination and reality. A line that includes much imagery is
when Moore says, The

In contrast to this Whitman s outlook to a storm is one that suggests that he wants the reader to be
aware of the threatening and aggressive nature of a storm,
Waves, air, midnight, their savagest trinity lashing . In my opinion this line sums up everything about
Whitman s attitude to the storm. In spite of the fact that each poet s feelings towards the storm are
primarily different there are subtle similarities in their thoughts about the storm. From a personal
standpoint I believe that there is a underlying feeling that both poets share, this is that they both accept
and acknowledge that man cannot combat the power of nature and that all humans are condemned to
the fact that all we can do is find the best means to adapt to natures elements.
With regards to the structure of each poem, Whitman s Patrolling
Barnegat is a sonnet despite the fact that it doesn t abide by all the rules associated with sonnets.
Heaney s Storm on the Island is a blank verse poem with 10 syllables in each line.
The tone and rhythm of each poem reflects the poet s own personal preference on how they wished to
write and construct their own poem, unsurprisingly the tone and rhythm of each poem is uniquely
different.

compliments this as it is written in a laid back relaxed style. This relaxed tone gives me

blaming someone s fault, especially for someone who do wrong to us. In the book The Sunflower
written by Simon Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Holocaust during World War II, he described his
conflict with Karl, a dying Nazi soldier who killed many innocent Jews and begging for forgiveness
for his outrageous crime at the end of his life. At the end of this sad and tragic episode, Simon did not
response to Karl s request directly; instead he left us a tough question: What should you have done?
Based on what Karl had done during World War II and his repentance, each person might have their
own point of view about where should we draw the line of forgiveness. But, in my opinion, while it
might be true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Karl appeared to be a murderer since he killed so many innocent Jews during World War II,
he deserved forgiveness because the scientific experiment explains that Karl s behaviors were led by
human being. The most two related experiments to shows Karl s actions in psychological ways are
taken by Stanley Milgram and Philip Zimbardo. In Milgram s experiment, it showed that subordinates
would have a tough time if they go against orders. More specifically, Milgram displayed the data that
twenty five out of forty subjects choose to fully obey the order even though their actions would be
harmful for learners (Milgram 64). This experiment displayed a persuasive evidence to show that
people attend to follow the command from the authority; even the order might have conflict with their
humanity. Just like in Karl s case, he served for Nazi s evil ideology which was so powerful and
authoritative. He must follow the command from Nazis

Chemotherapy Cycle
Most chemotherapy drugs are given as a course of up to ten sessions (cycles) of treatment. This will
depend on the type of drug you are having. At each treatment session you will be given the
chemotherapy drug through a drip (infusion). This involves running a liquid containing the drug
through a fine tube (cannula) into a vein in your arm. This allows the drug to enter the bloodstream
and travel throughout the body.
You will have treatment every three or four weeks. A treatment of docetaxel takes about one hour (this
may differ from other chemotherapy drugs). If your blood count is not high enough to cope with a
cycle of treatment your doctor may decide to reduce your dose of chemotherapy or delay the cycle.
Once your blood count returns to normal you can continue with ... Show more content on

This should include someone you can contact after normal hours. Be sure to call if you have any
concerns, even if you think they are not very important, and especially if you have persistent or severe
side effects.
It is perfectly safe to be around other people, including children and pregnant women, when you are
having chemotherapy, but you will need to try to avoid contact with people who have infections. This
is because your ability to fight infections (your immunity) is not as strong as usual during each
chemotherapy cycle. You are most at risk between seven and 14 days after your treatment. Some men
choose to avoid very crowded areas during this time to help reduce the risk of getting an infection.
If at any time, you think that you may have a fever or infection it is important to contact the hospital
immediately for advice. You can call any time of the day or night and should not wait to see if you feel
better. It may be useful to have a thermometer at home to check your temperature. If you do not feel
well take your temperature and call the hospital straight

Essay about Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephan Crane traces the effects of war on a Union
Soldier, Henry Fleming, from his dreams of soldiering, to his actual enlistment, and through several
battles of the Civil War. Henry Fleming was not happy with his boring life on the farm. He wanted to
become a hero in war and be praised and honored for his glorious achievements in battle. He knew his
mother would not like to see him go to war, but it was his decision to make.
He dreamed of the exciting battles of war and the thrill of marching. He didn t want to stay on the
farm living his benign life making rounds and completing chores. He made the final decision to enlist.
Once enlisted though, Henry learns the truths of war: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry was scared, confused, and in a trance as he saw his forces depleting. He finally got up and
started running like a proverbial chicken, who has lost the direction of safety. After running away,
Henry started rationalizing his behavior in running from the enemy. At first he feels he was a stupid
coward for running, then he feels he was just saving himself for later. He felt nature didn t want him to
die, even though his side is losing. He believes he was intelligent for running and yet hopes he will die
in battle just for spite.
In returning to the fields, he met the tattered soldier, wounded and retreating. In the next charge,
Henry and the tattered soldier see Jim, also wounded, die a slow and painful death. After
Jim s death, the tattered soldier questions Henry on his wounds and Henry, reaping his actions from
selfish fear, leaves the tattered man alone on the battlefield, dying, and dangerous to himself.
Returning to the battle Henry stumbles on a retreating regiment and begs the soldiers to explain why
they are running. He grabbed a comrade by the arm, begging, not letting go, so the man hit
Henry over the head with the butt of his rifle, giving Henry his first Red Badge of Courage.
Dazed, Henry stumbles around the battlefield struggling to stay on his feet, until a cheery man comes
around and helps Henry to get back to his regiment. At his regiment he confronts Wilson who cleans

Pandora s Box
Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch both share a similar theme. The theme is don t
be greedy, instead be happy with what you have already have. Both myths use story elements like
foreshadowing, indirect and direct characterization, and imagery to communicate the theme.
In Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch , they both have strong foreshadowing to
introduce the same topic. In one paragraph of Pandora s Box , it says, But with the passing of time she
could not help wondering what it might contain. This foreshadows that she might open the box up,
because of her curiosity. She already has so many great things like beauty, love and wiseness, so why
open the box? In the end, it ends up being something horrid. In King Midas and the Golden Touch ,
before choosing what he wants as his reward, the narrator says Midas, who wasn t much given to
thought, didn t have to think twice or even once. He was already rich, but why not be richer? This
showed me that he was going to ask for something that would make him even richer, which turned out
to be the touch of gold. Instead of being thankful for what he already had, he got his wish, but soon
regretted it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Pandora is given the characteristics of beauty, love, curiosity and wiseness from the
gods. Her curiosity is what ends up making her open the box. With the box, she ends up wanting even

King Midas situation, the indirect characterizations of him are greedy and selfish. The greed is very

Charlie Gordon In Flowers For Algernon
Ernest Hemingway once said, Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. For Charlie
Gordon, Hemingway s words hold more truth than anything he had been told throughout the course of
his story. Charlie Gordon, the main character of Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon, was a thirty two
year old man born with an unusually low level of intelligence. When Charlie was approached by a pair
of scientists with the proposition of undergoing a revolutionary surgery to increase his intelligence, he
readily agreed, thinking that the smarter he was, the more liked he would be. This did not, however,
seem to be the case. Charlie Gordon was happier when his I.Q. returned to sixty eight after the
operation than he was with an I.Q. of one hundred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
of sixty eight, after the operation. Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie underwent a
serious transformation from an optimistic but dimwitted thirty two year old man with hope for the
future, to a cynical genius whose world was slowly beginning to fall apart, and then back to a happier
version of his original self. However, it is indisputable that Charlie was the happiest after the
operation, when his I.Q. had sunk back down to a measly sixty eight. His relationships thrived in light
of his recent life events, he was protected by the innocence and childlike naïveté of his mental state,
and his learning ethic returned to a need to know basis. Intelligence has always been something of
incredible value, so much so that mentally retarded Charlie Gordon was approached by scientists with
the proposition of artificially increasing his intelligence. However, Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon
is the story of the life of Charlie Gordon, and if Charlie s tale is capable of teaching the readers
anything, it is that sometimes one s intellect comes at the sacrifice of his or her livelihood. Perhaps
Ernest Hemingway was correct: happiness and intelligence do not go

Give Me Liberty, By Eric Foner
The worst part about a new semester is purchasing new textbooks. And most of the time, the required
textbook does not even get opened. Growing up from the beginning of our education, we were taught
that all the information that one needs to know about a certain subject is in the textbook. However, a
textbook is written by an author, who can give a very different interpretation on history. Since the
textbook is under their publishment, they have the right to include or exclude certain things. Referring
back to my early education, there are many things that I remember being taught in class but as my
education level grew broader, I learned more about certain things in history that was not taught to me
threw the textbook. The textbook can definitely twist the story up if you re not given all the facts of
the matter. In Judith Rollins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparing the writing style of Rollins , her article places more emphasis on certain matters. Rollins
addresses and answers her own questions throughout the article. Asking the readers, how can a
movement reformist and assimilationist at its essence be linked to weakening of the capitalist
dominance of the world (Rollins, 61). Questions like this are not brought up for discussion in Foner s,
Give Me Liberty. Eric Foner does not challenge history within his writing. It is more of a stating the
facts piece, different from Rollins Part of a Whole . When reading from the excerpt, The Changing
Black Movement , Foner states, Even at its moment of triumph, the civil rights movement confronted
a crisis as it sought to move from access to schools, public accommodations, and the voting booth to
the economic divide... (Foner, 999). This introductory sentence does not challenge anything about the
history of the Civil Rights Movement as Rollins article does. Proving that her account places more

The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange The Columbian Exchange is non fiction book written by Alfred W. Crosby
JR. It illustrates the important events that transpired when Columbus came to America in 1492. I
initially chose this this book because I wanted to know more about Europe s effects on America, and
how Columbus altered the flora and fauna of America for better and for worse. As I started to read
further into the book I immediately was captivated by all the information that was hidden within the
text. The book started out by contrasting the Columbian Exchange to the early human migrations and
early land bridges. I believe this is especially important because, it gave e a better understanding of
how early humans developed a pattern and a need to explore new lands. This quote states, The
connection between the Old and New Worlds, which for more than ten millennia had been no more
than a tenuous thing of Viking voyages, drifting fishermen, and shadowy contacts via Polynesia,
became on the twelfth day of October 1492 a bond as significant as the Bering land bridge had once
been (Crosby 3). This is a particularly important sentence in the book because it gave me a tie between
mankind s migrations throughout the earth. The Bering land bridge was used as a rout for human
migrations from Asia to the Americas about 20,000 years ago. Knowing this gave me a sense of what
the book was about. When Columbus came to America one of the big effects that occurred was
disease. As Crosby explains,

Analysis Of Sunset Blvd And The Great Gatsby By F....
Growing up, Americans begin to form dreams, or goals, based on where they want to go in life. These
dreams may change over time, or remain the same, but they are always the focus of an American s
life. However, there comes a point in life when you must decide whether to continue chasing your
dream or to face reality and give up and illusions you may have about your life. The plot of two
American based stories, Sunset Blvd , directed by Billy Wilder, and The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, revolve around this conflict of illusion, or dreams, against reality and facing the facts of
life. Both Sunset Blvd and The Great Gatsby ultimately side with illusion and dreaming over reality, a
decision which becomes solidified by the closing scenes in both tales, and the death of a main
character.
Sunset Blvd is not subtle in stating illusion will win out over reality. After all, Norma Desmond, the
aged silent movie star who deludes herself into believing that she will be famous again, kills Joe
Gillis, our involved narrator and voice of reason. But before we analyze the dramatic pool scene,
which dispels any idea that Sunset Blvd sides with reality, we must first look at the characters, the
embodiments of dreams and of reality in this movie. Norma Desmond, who dreams of rising to
greatness again, refuses to believe that time has passed and that she no longer has any fans. Max, her
butler and first husband, feeds into this facade by writing her fan mail, encouraging her

Alliances Will Determine The Fate Of The Chickasaw Tribe
Alliances will determine the fate of the Chickasaw tribe. During the Revolutionary war, Payamataha,
the Chickasaw foreign diplomat, decided that maintaining peace and neutrality would better benefit
the tribe and preserve the Chickasaw people and land. With Independence Lost by Kathleen DuVal,
Payamataha decision to stay out of the Revolutionary War and advocate peace led to the defeat of the
British and results in the loss of the Chickasaw land by the Americans. During the Seven Years War,
the Chickasaws suffered many casualties and loss of resources while fighting off the French. Due to
the many casualties, Payamataha felt that his strategy of peace would benefit the Chickasaws the most.
However, Payamataha did not anticipate that the alliance with the British would affect the Americans
view; no matter how minuscule the Chickasaws actions were.
The Chickasaws made many mistakes during the Revolutionary War. Although Payamataha made
resolutions of maintaining peace, the Chickasaws still made an alliance with the British without
making the intentions clear. Despite the alliance, the Chickasaw did everything possible to stay out of
the war while still staying on the good side of the British. While reassuring the British of the alliance
in Mobile, Payamataha used his time to secure peace with other Indian Nations such as the Creeks,
Choctaws, Cherokees, and Quapaws. In 1777 Payamataha sent a commission across the Mississippi to

The Power of Habit
First off, we are creatures. We are animals. We re very sophisticated and good looking and all that, but
let s never forget that we re made of flesh and blood. In particular, our brains are incredibly complex
evolved machines. Our brains govern basic processes such as breathing and food intake, and also
enable us to appreciate the finer points of John Cleese s performances in Fawlty Towers.
As creatures, we have needs. We need to eat, and so we eat. As rather intelligent and social creatures,
we like to chat with one another, and so we do. We take turns and finish our conversations gracefully.
And there are dozens and dozens more behaviors that are just as complicated, if not more so. How on
Earth do we get all of this done?
That s where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No writer feels like he is writing enough. We all watch too much television, spend too much time on
Facebook, or waste our writing time doing other things. For beginning writers, the problem is
especially acute. With no editor giving a deadline, no fans clamoring for the next installment, and no
writing income, there is literally no incentive to write at least not consistently. Beginners might write
when they are inspired, but with so many other things pulling them away from the writing desk, how
can they stick with it for the months and years it takes to carve out a writing career?
On the other hand, most professional writers write every day. Not because they are inspired more
often, not because they have more free time, and not because they are neglecting other parts of their
lives. Pros write every day for one simple yet powerful reason. They ve made it a habit.
We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good
(walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT
shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things a cue, a routine, and a reward and don
t take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like
drive a car without constant self monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to

Tension is the state of being stretched tight. For example if you have a piece of paper and you try to
stretch it won t this is called tension. If you cut out the bottom of a cup the tension is gone. If you try
to replace the bottom of the paper cups with something else for example, sand you can also see that
the sand replaces the bottom of the cups. The sand replaces the base to make it even stronger than it
was before. The sand s replacing the tension which causes the cups to stretch back out again and make
this experiment a lot more interesting. Compression is the last thing going on here in this experiment.
Compression is thrust, load, stress, compressing, squeezing, crushing, weight, and heaviness. Take the

The Piracy of Privacy
Throughout history the world has seen significant decreases in privacies. Lately in the United States of
America, many citizens have expressed concern with the government s overreach in personal privacy.
The National Security Agency and other government administrations have been criticized for their
operations. With much criticism, the nation has been seeing a decrease in social networking users and
an increase in hacking abilities amongst citizens. Many have questioned how farther the government
and businesses will go but this can only be told through time.
During the Cold War, at the height of the Red Scare FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover conducted mass
clandestine operations on US citizens. Even before he became director of the FBI, Hoover was
conducting secret intelligence operations against U.S. citizens he suspected were anarchists, radical
leftists or communists. (NPR) The specifics of these programs were not completely released to
Congress or even the Supreme Court for rulings and oversight. Many politicians, journalists and
everyday citizens were subject to these bugs which included wiretapping, stalking and finding your
day to day activities. These spying techniques relate with current internet operations in that the
government is able to track, see and hear everything we do, without our knowledge. On May 17th,
2013 the Washington Post reported that the Department of Justice and the FBI were conducting

  • 2. Cross Sex Relationships Are Becoming Increasingly More... Cross sex relationships are becoming increasingly more popular than ever before. According to Schoonover and McEwan of Predicting the audience challenge in cross sex friendships, men and women have complimenting communication styles and this is what makes cross sex friendships so appealing as it grows to be more accepted (Schoonover, McEwan, 2014). In analyzing the benefits for both sexes, the most significant challenges, and the cultural or societal challenges, it can be concluded that while cross sex friendships come with their own trials, it can be a very rewarding relationship. Who Benefits More Both men and women are able to reap the benefits of cross sex friendships because they are given insight into unfamiliar territory. Seeking advice about the opposite sex with a friend who is of the same sex does not always give the most accurate perspective and so that sex is not represented. On the downside, women who have too many male friends may be seen as promiscuous in this society because it is not a good look to spend too much time with men alone. This double standard is why women may not benefit from maintaining many cross sex relationships. For this reason, men have the greatest benefit for maintaining cross sex relationships which is why they may be known to engage in them more frequently. Men Men benefit from cross sex friendships because they seek out female companionship to receive a different type of attention their same sex relationships may not be offering ... • 3. Emily Dickinson And The Village Blacksmith The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This poem is about an honest, hardworking blacksmith who provides for his family by working long hours at the forge. And the message of the poem is through your life you will eventually change the world by the things you do, and you make your mark on the world by looking hard every day. There is a Certain Slant of Light is a poem by Emily Dickinson. In the poem it describes the feeling of hurt and oppression ironically using light as the instrument of hurting. Throughout this essay I will be explaining and going into detail of the literary elements found in each individually, but also found in both of these poems. The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision. Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. I believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver different messages, and things to think about while reading this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Roanoke Voyage Research Paper The Roanoke Voyages were England s first attempt at settling in North America. Sir Walter Raleigh asked for Queen Elizabeth s permission to begin exploration and she agreed to let him organize the expedition. However, he was not allowed to be physically involved in the actual voyages because she believed he was a valuable asset to her and did not want him travelling far away. The first expedition, in 1584, was an exploratory venture. Sir Walter Raleigh arranged for two ships to begin the exploration. The two captains of the ships were Arthur Barlowe and Philip Amadas. They discovered fertile land with plenty of game. The area, near the Pamlico and Currituck, would be a great place to begin settlement. In addition to their own accounts of the journey, they also brought back two native Americans, named Manteo and Wanchese, to help the English learn more about the land they may eventually colonize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This voyage was more of a military venture. It has since been named the Lane Settlement , after the veteran Ralph who helped command the voyage and was later named governor of the settlement. During his time in the New World , Lane directed parties to the North and West, to find more information about potential places for settlement. Natives told tales of potential Gold mines and calmer waters for better ship harbors. Hostility and violences between Lane s men and their primary food and supply source, the Secotan tribe, forced the settlers to return to England. Fortunately, they returned with detailed accounts of their experiences. Two major contributors of this information were Thomas Harriot and John White. Harriot returned with descriptions of local plants, animals, and people while White had drawn drawn useful maps along with watercolors of landscapes and natives he had seen during his time spent at the Lane ... • 5. Journalist Role Analysis The journalist role is important because it provides the world with facts and the answers. Often times politicians or public figures may not tell the world the whole truth. But because of journalist, they take time to investigate the whole story and then provide citizens with correct news. Not only do journalist investigate the news, journalist also take time to interview these public figures and ask the questions that viewers want to ask. For example, Barbara Walters is known for her skills of asking the questions that most are scared to ask. But because she is fearless and true journalist she asks these tough questions and gets down to the nitty gritty. This is all made possible through the first amendment. The first amendment grants journalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are multiple media outlets that provides citizens with a bunch of different perspectives. For instance, FOX news may give you a more bias opinion on Donald Trump and ABC may give you a more bias opinion on Hillary Clinton. But because of these two outlets being opposites it gives you a well rounded view of the election as a whole. Not only do we have national networks covering the election we also have black media outlets like Bet News, TheGrio, The Root and many more that provide African Americans with the black perspective on voting. Because of these outlets they let us know the truth on who we should cast our ballot for in this upcoming election. They also ask the questions that we as a community have but may not have the direct access to ask personally. Furthermore, I believe Social Media plays an awesome role in the election because it lets citizens know information right away. Because of social media, in the matter of seconds we are made aware of breaking news. Social media also makes it harder for nominees to hide from the truth. People can instantly tweet and video record what the nominees say and post on social media. Because of this it helps keep viewers/citizens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Beowulf And Grendel And Beowulf Since it was first discovered and translated, Beowulf has represented one of the finest examples of heroic poetry. As a tale reflecting the noble deeds of a hero, it uniquely expresses the cultural values of the Anglo Saxons from whom it originated since heroes often do reflect the best of what their culture deems worthwhile. However, modern adaptations of this work express a different set of cultural values; values unique to modern society. When comparing the translated poem, Beowulf, to the 2005 motion picture, Beowulf and Grendel, it is obvious to see that our morals and ideas are reflected on this ancient poem. The movie, Beowulf and Grendel, and the epic, Beowulf, are prime examples of the radical cultural differences that have evolved over time. In Beowulf, the epic, we see very simplistic characters. Beowulf, for example, is simply a hero who kills monsters. That is all he has ever wanted in his life and that is all that defines him. In the motion picture, we see Beowulf as a man that has risen from his unique childhood and has made a name for himself. We see Beowulf as a flawed human being; not as a muscle head hero who is never defeated. This humanizes Beowulf and makes him a more appealing character that people can identify with. In the epic, Grendel is a demonic monster who kills for no reason; he is only reason considered evil, because he does not pay the blood price after killing someone. In the motion picture, Grendel is made to look more human; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects of Memory Improvement by Saying Words Aloud THE EFFECTS OF MEMORY IMPROVEMENT BY SAYING WORDS ALOUD Abstract This experiment proposes to study the effects of memory improvement by reciting and saying the words out loud to oneself. Participants will be assigned to either two different types of conditions and will then be required to recall the information of words as best as they can. It is assumed that a higher level of generating the targeted words into memory is improved when readers say the words out loud to themselves. Thus, the hypothesis concluded is that people who say words out loud after reading them are expected to improve their memory in retaining information. However, recent research done by Reynolds amp; Besner (2008) suggests that contrary to the view that by vocalizing words out loud is entirely an automatic memory encoding, it in fact requires some form of attention. Previous research was investigated further where participants were exposed to reading lexicon and pseudo homophones aloud that required the use of central attention. In research done by Blais amp; Besner (2007), repetition of words of lexical representations suggests longer persistence in the early memory processing, as cited by Reynolds amp; Malley (2008). It was discussed earlier that possibly the mere action of vocalizing words for memory recall will encourage memory improvement at a higher level, thus making a person to be able to better retrieve previous information if need be (Macleod et al., 2010). In another study, Kappel, Harfard, Burns amp; Anderson, (1973) gave another possible explanation on the advantage of reading words out loud, indicating that serial voiced recall were found to be superior for the later positions, and these results replicates previous experiments done by Murray (1966) and Conrad amp; Hull (1968). This quote states, The connection between the Old and New Worlds, which for more than ten millennia had been no more than a tenuous thing of Viking voyages, drifting fishermen, and shadowy contacts via Polynesia, became on the twelfth day of October 1492 a bond as significant as the Bering land bridge had once been (Crosby 3). This is a particularly important sentence in the book because it gave me a tie between mankind s migrations throughout the earth. The Bering land bridge was used as a rout for human migrations from Asia to the Americas about 20,000 years ago. Knowing this gave me a sense of what the book was about. When Columbus came to America one of the big effects that occurred was disease. As Crosby explains, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Black community has continuously battled segregation. Throughout the years there have been many radical movements all over the world to end segregation. Strong leaders came out of these movements people banned together for a common cause. While Segregation was a worldwide issue it seemed to be a lot worse in the southern states. • 32. Analysis Of Sunset Blvd And The Great Gatsby By F.... Growing up, Americans begin to form dreams, or goals, based on where they want to go in life. These dreams may change over time, or remain the same, but they are always the focus of an American s life. However, there comes a point in life when you must decide whether to continue chasing your dream or to face reality and give up and illusions you may have about your life. The plot of two American based stories, Sunset Blvd , directed by Billy Wilder, and The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, revolve around this conflict of illusion, or dreams, against reality and facing the facts of life. Both Sunset Blvd and The Great Gatsby ultimately side with illusion and dreaming over reality, a decision which becomes solidified by the closing scenes in both tales, and the death of a main character. Sunset Blvd is not subtle in stating illusion will win out over reality. After all, Norma Desmond, the aged silent movie star who deludes herself into believing that she will be famous again, kills Joe Gillis, our involved narrator and voice of reason. But before we analyze the dramatic pool scene, which dispels any idea that Sunset Blvd sides with reality, we must first look at the characters, the embodiments of dreams and of reality in this movie. Norma Desmond, who dreams of rising to greatness again, refuses to believe that time has passed and that she no longer has any fans. Max, her butler and first husband, feeds into this facade by writing her fan mail, encouraging her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Alliances Will Determine The Fate Of The Chickasaw Tribe Alliances will determine the fate of the Chickasaw tribe. During the Revolutionary war, Payamataha, the Chickasaw foreign diplomat, decided that maintaining peace and neutrality would better benefit the tribe and preserve the Chickasaw people and land. With Independence Lost by Kathleen DuVal, Payamataha decision to stay out of the Revolutionary War and advocate peace led to the defeat of the British and results in the loss of the Chickasaw land by the Americans. During the Seven Years War, the Chickasaws suffered many casualties and loss of resources while fighting off the French. Due to the many casualties, Payamataha felt that his strategy of peace would benefit the Chickasaws the most. However, Payamataha did not anticipate that the alliance with the British would affect the Americans view; no matter how minuscule the Chickasaws actions were. The Chickasaws made many mistakes during the Revolutionary War. Although Payamataha made resolutions of maintaining peace, the Chickasaws still made an alliance with the British without making the intentions clear. Despite the alliance, the Chickasaw did everything possible to stay out of the war while still staying on the good side of the British. While reassuring the British of the alliance in Mobile, Payamataha used his time to secure peace with other Indian Nations such as the Creeks, Choctaws, Cherokees, and Quapaws. In 1777 Payamataha sent a commission across the Mississippi to discuss joint interest with the Quapaw, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Power of Habit First off, we are creatures. We are animals. We re very sophisticated and good looking and all that, but let s never forget that we re made of flesh and blood. In particular, our brains are incredibly complex evolved machines. Our brains govern basic processes such as breathing and food intake, and also enable us to appreciate the finer points of John Cleese s performances in Fawlty Towers. As creatures, we have needs. We need to eat, and so we eat. As rather intelligent and social creatures, we like to chat with one another, and so we do. We take turns and finish our conversations gracefully. And there are dozens and dozens more behaviors that are just as complicated, if not more so. How on Earth do we get all of this done? That s where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No writer feels like he is writing enough. We all watch too much television, spend too much time on Facebook, or waste our writing time doing other things. For beginning writers, the problem is especially acute. With no editor giving a deadline, no fans clamoring for the next installment, and no writing income, there is literally no incentive to write at least not consistently. Beginners might write when they are inspired, but with so many other things pulling them away from the writing desk, how can they stick with it for the months and years it takes to carve out a writing career? On the other hand, most professional writers write every day. Not because they are inspired more often, not because they have more free time, and not because they are neglecting other parts of their lives. Pros write every day for one simple yet powerful reason. They ve made it a habit. We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good (walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things a cue, a routine, and a reward and don t take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like drive a car without constant self monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to press the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here s an idea though how about taking cardboard and cups? Now, what can you do with these items? I know. How about you try to do the paper cup walk. It would be amazing if you could stand on dixie cups and just two pieces of cardboard with all your weight. The goal to do with this project is to not crush one dixie cup. Also you should try cutting out the bottom of the cups and see if you can stand on them without crushing one cup. Everyone does this experiment different that is why it is fun. Tension is the state of being stretched tight. For example if you have a piece of paper and you try to stretch it won t this is called tension. If you cut out the bottom of a cup the tension is gone. If you try to replace the bottom of the paper cups with something else for example, sand you can also see that the sand replaces the bottom of the cups. The sand replaces the base to make it even stronger than it was before. The sand s replacing the tension which causes the cups to stretch back out again and make this experiment a lot more interesting. Compression is the last thing going on here in this experiment. Compression is thrust, load, stress, compressing, squeezing, crushing, weight, and heaviness. Take the paper again and after you ve used tension with it let s use compression. If you crush the paper into a ball. This is compression. Now compression is similar to pressure in this project actually, pressure causes compression but they are a little bit different. • 37. The Piracy of Privacy Throughout history the world has seen significant decreases in privacies. Lately in the United States of America, many citizens have expressed concern with the government s overreach in personal privacy. The National Security Agency and other government administrations have been criticized for their operations. With much criticism, the nation has been seeing a decrease in social networking users and an increase in hacking abilities amongst citizens. Many have questioned how farther the government and businesses will go but this can only be told through time. During the Cold War, at the height of the Red Scare FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover conducted mass clandestine operations on US citizens. Even before he became director of the FBI, Hoover was conducting secret intelligence operations against U.S. citizens he suspected were anarchists, radical leftists or communists. (NPR) The specifics of these programs were not completely released to Congress or even the Supreme Court for rulings and oversight. Many politicians, journalists and everyday citizens were subject to these bugs which included wiretapping, stalking and finding your day to day activities. These spying techniques relate with current internet operations in that the government is able to track, see and hear everything we do, without our knowledge.
