Character Count Character Analysis
Character Counts Reflection There are six character count in the world, there are two that specifically
remind me of myself, caring and respect. Respect is, treat others with dignity and respect, follow the
Golden Rule, use manners, and be considerate to others. Caring is, be kind, forgive others, and help
people in need. As one of my characters counts respect means a lot to me, it hits a big impact on my
life cause, that is how my parents taught us, me and my sister, to respect people. Respect for me has to
be earned. To me when people walk up to me and treat me with respect, they earned my respect. I treat
people with a lot of respect like my parents, my elders, my teachers, my coaches, everyone that has a

Victimization In Surfacing Atwood
In the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure. Despite her notable search for an
understanding of Canada that is not first mediated by an English or American aesthetic. Atwood s
novels are examined in a cultural context in this study, which explores the victimization of women.
Victimization includes anything that affects women s survival, specifically, victimization through
physical, psychological, and economic manipulation. Atwood s novels show how society sustains
victimization by holding power over women. The protagonists of Atwood s novels are not satisfied
with their lives, and as they explore the reasons for their discontent, come to realize that they are
victims of social, economic, and political discrimination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Cat s Eye, she recalled the anglophile that dominated Canadian schooling in the 1950s. Elaine
ponders Rule Britannia :
Because we re Britons, we will never be slaves. But we aren t real Britons, because we are also
Canadians. This isn t quite as good. (80)
Here, the postcolonial reality is experienced as a mild but insistent inferiority complex, a sense of
internalised alienation. However, in Surfacing Atwood addressed the pressures of America s cultural
colonisation of Canada, and in an interview she expanded: it s impossible to talk about Canadian
literature without also talking about the fact that Canada s an economic and cultural colony . This
broader view of colonialism encompasses various manifestations of national domination and
suppression, and for Atwood, Canada s marginal position in terms of political and economic power
places her, as its citizen, as a marginal, colonial, and postcolonial subject.
Atwood postcolonial voice has a power, largely connected to its white, First World status, which
undermines the connection with other postcolonial speaking

Xenophobia In Elie Wiesel s Night
Xenophobia marches across the planet
Despite the xenophobic and racist beliefs to be completely irrational primarily because God created
human as imago Dei, which means that we are all His children, at the certain periods of the history of
humanity and in some circumstances these beliefs may seem logical from people s subjective point of
view (Rydgren, 2004). It may happen because of the lack of information or due to the cognitive
limitations that make people massively follow a charismatic leader and adhere to the suggested
ideology. Unfortunately, xenophobia always causes a tragedy whether it is concentration camps
described by Elie Wiesel in Night, or racial segregation drafted by Langston Hughes in The Negro

Happening mostly during the peaceful times, segregation is a scar on the body of the United States of
America that seems to heal but still disturbs even decades after. Not slaves anymore, at the beginning
of the XX century black people were still not equal members of the society. During the Great
Migration, African Americans moved from the Southern states where they resided historically to the
North, where industrial cities that offered more jobs were located. Despite the fact that black people
could pursue most of the careers available for white people, including artistic pathways, the demands
of the society and the expectations from the black professionals were not equal to those from whites

The Importance of the First Scene in the Film Version of...
Romeo and juliet written in 1595, is one of the most famous plays of the 16th century, set in Verona. It
was cleverly written by William Shakespeare, who is one of the most renowned writers of all time and
the play was later produced as movie in 1996 staring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. The play is
still popular as it contains universal themes of love and hate that can still be related to today.
One of the importances of the first scene of the play is to introduce the audience to the majority of the
lead charecters such as Romeo and Juliet, Benvolio and Tybalt, Sampson and Gregory, Lord and Lady
Capulet, Lord and Lady Montague and Prince. Along with the different themes and use of language,
which varies from crude to poetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hate the word and continues to say the word hate throughout the play which suggests he s uncivil
which eventually backfires on him later on in the play. Sampson and Gregory are clearly shown to be
the better and more civil charecters as they The language used is insulting such as A dog of the house
of Montague moves me. which basically means anything from the house Montague even a dog, they
have no respect for therefore they wouldn t move out of it s way and would let it walk in the dirt. It s
significant that the fight between the Montagues and Capulets starts first among the servants as it
shows that both houses have lower status charecters in that share the same hatred for the opposite
houses as the higher status charecters do. Shakespeares use of language is clever as you have to look
within what the Capulets said to find the true insult. The fight between the two houses grabs the
attention of the audience straight away with it s witty use of language and action. It also starts with the
question that lingers throughout the rest of the play which is why exactly have they hated eachother
for so long and so strongly?
All this builds up tension and the crowd are constantly on the edge of their seats waiting for the events
to happen that they have been told about, the fight is witnessed by the prince who decides anymore
fighting will end in exile if they carry on. In a way the Prince is

The National Anthem Of Peru Essay
On the 28th of July, every year, Peru celebrates its national declaration of independence s day from
Spain in 1821. This holiday is known as Fiestas Patrias . During this day, the national anthem is
played for the country. The national anthem is really important for the Peruvians. Reformers tried to
change it many times but it always came back to the original one. This song represents many aspects
of Peruvian culture and history. The music part of the anthem, made by José Bernardo Alcedo, was
chosen between six others propositions, on September 1821. This research paper will explain the
context and history of the country to understand the anthem, but also the meaning of the lyrics and
how does it related to the habitants and history of the country. The national anthem of Peru, represents
what Peruvians have been trough to gain their independence. First of all, Peru evolved a lot through

Ancient Egypt-The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Egypt has had a complex history. At the beginning of recorded history, Egypt was ruled by god kings
called pharaohs. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of his
tomb. This competition led to Egypt s most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs such as
Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods they
worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid the Great pyramid of
Giza, and what caused those innovations?
In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According to
Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in the west
and was reborn in the east. The pharaohs built mastabas, mounds of dirt and rock roughly shaped like
a brick. In the center of each structure, a shaft was dropped down for many feet. The bottom of that
shaft was where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

its being externally the best preserved of all pyramids. He built the pyramid s base at a 54 degree
inclination. At the same time, he began building the interior, consisting of a lower corbelled chamber
with the passage to another corbelled chamber. The pyramid had one unique feature only seen again in
the middle kingdom. According to Guardian s Egypt, The Bent Pyramid is the only known pyramid
from the Old Kingdom to have two separate entrances on two different faces. The second entrance is
located high up on the western side of the pyramid. However, once again, something went wrong. The
pyramid seems to be too steep, as well as being built on unstable bedrock. Snefru s engineers changed
the angle in the upper section to an angle of 43 degrees, leading to its bent

In fact, in the Salem witch trials, the subject of the frenzy was a fear of witches. The puritans lived a
strictly religious life, their fear of witches and the devil easily led them to jump to conclusions without

of communism due to the events of the cold war (Red Scare, History.com). Due to the US s focus on
the individual s rights, the communist system was repulsive and the cold war only served to pour gas

Not cox only dress has to do with this question but as well body image. Body image is a growing topic
for many women today. The one I m discussing however, is a little different. We are dealing with the
objectification of women s bodies. Women are objectified every day whether we realize it or not. The
three most common topics for women s magazine is love, weight loss, and beauty. For males the three
most common is money, success and power. The comparison of magazines alone is enough proof, but
it doesn t end there. In nearly 85 percent of interviews for female actress they are asked of diet plans
and what they are wearing regardless of obtaining a lead role whilst men are asked questions on their
lives and movie production. In 2013, Heidi Klum saved her son and nanny from drowning on Hawaii
vacation, over half of the magazines and interviews only questioned her on the revealing swim suit she
wore. Turning a human being into a thing is almost always the first step towards justifying violence

the wagons and fell into the wagon wheels. It doesn t look okay and I feel sad that the guy got his head

collapsed bleeding on the grass, I wish it didn t happen because the children got scared that the man
died. I feel bad for him. Some days became storming with lightning or hail. It was getting us wet and
the hail is falling on our heads, so I bring the young children inside so they won t get hurt from the

the stories which reflect the way they are, and real meanings of the story. In this story they used three
Mexican proverbs that reflects their story such as He who falls today may rise tomorrow The rich
person is richer when he becomes poor, than the poor person when he becomes rich Wait a little while
and the fruit will fall into your hand To begin with, He who falls today may rise tomorrow. They used
this proverb to describe when the Esperanza s family went through the obstacles. When Esperanza

For example, the announcer says, You know when you feel the weight of sadness. He does not
specifically say how long and how many times it occurs. The broadness leaves it up in the air for
interpretation; therefore, a person who has experienced sadness for three seconds yesterday could self
diagnose themselves with depression. Since everyone has experienced sadness before, it immediately
relates to everyone watching while making it personal to them at the same time because he uses the
word you ten times in the span of a minute. It makes a large effort to relate to the largest amount of
people possible the commercial can attract a larger amount of potential buyers and convince doctors.
The advertisement even goes as far as to make the main character a featureless ball. Everything seems
extremely bland from the creation of the circle and a single blade of grass, which makes it open to
interpretation as well. The main character is a generic circle that is mostly associated with a human
head. It is raceless, genderless, and ageless; therefore, a person can look at the ball and compare it to
themselves because it is a bland as a stick figure majority have drawn in the first grade. The audience
has the ability to evaluate it any way they wish to make it more relatable to their specific situation.

People s History Of The United States By Howard Zinn Essay
The book People s History of the United States by the author Howard Zinn represents the history to
the readers in a different perspective, making the readers look into the history in a difference lens
making it insightful. What is a history? To answer this question, we must first establish a commonality
in language: namely, what is history? It is a continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating
to a particular people, country, period, person which is usually written as a chronological account. The
author discusses about how the major events were recorded and mainly the stories which were untold
to the people and were left out of the mainstream history books. In the first few chapters he gives
critical details about how America was founded by Christopher Columbus and gradually moving into
detail about how he killed hundreds of native Indians in the process of capturing the country. The
author then moves into giving the readers about hidden class struggles and the period of time where
racism was affecting a majority of the people. Howard Zinn also mentions about the wars, the Vietnam
war and the Civil war that had changed the lives of many in the past and how it has made a major
impact in the past and today to the people. Some of the details in the book are real life experiences by
the author, because he is not only a writer but had also served in the army in the world war two as a
pilot, which makes the readers understand every detail of some events as it is told

Social Class And Its Effect On Children s Life
On October 23th 1995 at a still undisclosed location, a sniper shot my father. He had been in the
marine of 7 years and a decorated officer and that is everything I ve been told about him to this day.
My mom doesn t mention him and I know none of his relative. Growing up without a parent has a
drastic effect on any child s life. The few people I ve talked to about this often ask why I have never
asked my mother about him and that is hugely due to the circumstances of his death and in some ways
social class. Military kids aren t supposed to cry over loved ones, but honor their memory and respect
their service. We are encouraged to stand strong and often told when younger to make them proud.
Our social class had a lot to do with how I learned to handle this as an officer s son whose mother is
also a high ranking member of the government that pressure to maintain composure was doubled.
Growing up it was often me who was chosen to speak at different memorial and veteran events. I was
poised as somebody other kids who lost parents to look up to, it was up to me to show them how to
act. I was taught young that your actual feelings don t matter only the face you put on to the world. If I

only serve to make him real as it is now he is more a mythological figure. In addition to this the fact

The Inaccuracy of National Crime Victimization Survey Research However consistent the evidence
may be concerning the effectiveness of armed victim resistance, there are some who minimize its
significance by insisting that it is rare.[15] This assertion is invariably based entirely on a single
source of information, the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). Data from the NCVS imply
that each year there are only about 68,000 defensive uses of guns in connection with assaults and
robberies,[16] or about 80,000 to 82,000 if one adds in uses linked with household burglaries.[17]

the estimates from the other surveys on the basis of flaws which they only speculated those surveys

solely on possible flaws whose correction would bring the estimate down, while ignoring obvious

Social Media Communication And The Power Of Online...
In the world of technology communication has become easier than ever. The world has now shrunk
from a vast populated land to a network of communicating individuals living in a global village.
People from all over the globe have come closer together and distances have decreased to the extent
that an individual is merely a click away.
In this ever growing network of people a new theory has emerged, the idea of 6 degrees of separation.
The idea behind this is that between you and any another person in the world is only a chain no longer
than six people. This emphasizes the significance of online communication and the way it has made
the world a whole lot smaller.
This is the power of social media and the developments in online communication. A happening in one
part of the world reaches to the second part in a matter of seconds. Imagine if that news or happening
was about you. The significance of this technology is the ease it provides. Using this tool to your
advantage can give you a large number of benefits.
Social Media Marketing brings global fame to your name.
This is your ticket to international level fame. Your company or your name could be known
throughout the globe with millions of followers and fans. Millions of people can access these sites
where people come to communicate online and express their views. Once you step into the world of
the social media marketing all of these people become your potential prospects. Your services are
merely a single search away.

What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day Essay

Essay 3, Option 2
Pearl Cleage s novel, What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day gives a glimpse into the life of Ava
Johnson, a recently diagnosed, HIV positive, middle aged woman. Ava begins the novel as a single
woman in transition from a fast paced, close minded life in Atlanta, to a more open minded, life of
opportunity in San Francisco. The transition brings her to her hometown of Idlewild, Michigan to stay
with her sister for the summer. Ava s transition ends up evolving into a permanent new life for her.
The decision to stay in Idlewild, her relationship with Eddie, and all the decisions that Ava makes after
being diagnosed with the HIV virus are based around what she sees appropriate for ... Show more

This paralleled with the stigma of HIV and AIDs being diseases primarily linked to the gay
community, makes the choice an obvious one for someone looking to blend in and have the most
normal life possible with the disease. Ava even mentions the possibility of exploring bisexuality, I ve
even been thinking that when I get to San Francisco, I might be more open to the idea of having a
woman lover (102). Ava s decision to stay in Idlewild was not a choice she consciously made at a
single point in time. Rather, several factors over the summer went into convincing her that it was the
place she should be. Involvement with her sister Joyce and the Sewing Circus was one of those
factors. Working with the sewing circus gave the two women a hand in restoring the community that
had once been a thriving place to live that its citizens were proud of. Helping the woman in the
Sewing Circus gave the women a purpose and made them feel good about helping those that might
otherwise have no means to better themselves. This served as a way for Ava to take her mind off of her
disease and not let herself feel sorry about it. Joyce s decision to take over custody of Imani
strengthened Ava s ties to Idlewild. At first Ava had believed that a baby in the house was the last
thing that she wanted. I am still less than enthusiastic about spending the summer with a newborn
crack baby (49). Ava didn t hesitate to express that she herself had

New Deal Essay
1932. Famine and homelessness afflicted millions across the country. Small shanty towns called
Hoovervilles popped up on the outskirts of towns and in the open areas of cities, and served as home
to the most downtrodden of society. Over nine thousand banks had gone bankrupt since 1929, along
with them millions of dollars that had been entrusted to their care. Franklin D. Roosevelt inherited the
leadership of a nation containing thirteen million unemployed living in utter poverty. Although
criticized by his political contemporaries for the vague nature of his New Deal, FDR came into office
with a vision that, if employed effectively, would boost people s confidence in the economy and lift
the spirits of millions nationwide. The New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the aforementioned programs were simply the beginning of the New Deal, but they were
necessary for facilitating social, political, and economic change in the United States. The Agricultural
Adjustment Act placed limits on competitive farming, reduced crop production through artificial
scarcity ensuring agricultural price inflation and padding the pockets of farmers. The AAA also paid
farmers subsidies to leave farm lands uncultivated by introducing tax penalties on overproduction.
This led to the slaughter of over six million piglets, unfortunately. The AAA was widely unpopular
among the American public according to Gallup polls of the time, and the Supreme Court ultimately
declared it unconstitutional; that the state did not have the legal right to control the means of
agricultural production. Proponents of the second New Deal introduced new legislation in FDR s
second term to provide government subsidies on lands that were used to plant soil enriching crops
rather than commodities. The FERA, CWA, CCC, the WPA, NYA, NRA, PWA, and TVA were all
created as part of the relief legislation to get the unemployed back to work, regardless of cost. All the
relief works programs especially the CCC were designed to organize a labor force and literally create
an Army of working men, provide them with jobs, discipline, food, and shelter while creating
infrastructure support nationally

Maybe In Another Universe, I Deserve You
Gaby Dunn
What if, in another universe, I deserve you?
Hear me out. There s this philosopher from the 1890s named William James, and he coined this theory
about the multiverse which suggests that a hypothetical set of multiple universes comprises everything
that can possibly exist simultaneously.
Are you following? The entirety of space, time, matter and energy is all happening at once in different
timelines: It s the idea of parallel universes. Right? So okay, let s presume the multiverse is real.
Well then, maybe somewhere in those infinite universes is one, or several, where I deserve you.

Debbie Purdy s Legal Case Study
Debbie Purdy s legal case illustrated a prime example of concerns over good quality of death. She
suffered from Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic disease that degenerates the body over time and attacks the
nervous central system. During her illness she launched a legal battle to clarify the law on assisted
suicide and in 2009 finally won a ruling allowing her husband to support her in ending her life, should
living become unbearable (BBC, 2014). Debbie argued that her personal experience with the reality of
the disease reinforced (her) conviction that we need to change the law and allow assisted dying when
life is unbearable (Purdy, 2015).
The idea of quality of death highlights a societal dilemma over what is more important, the total

The European Convention on Human Rights protects the value of life and upholding individual s right
to life. However, this core value creates difficulties for the right of self determination, this is because
the right to life constricts a person s right to make autonomous decisions about his/her life (Tiensuu,
2015, p251). Which results in a paradox for the rights based argument the convention is primarily
based on. The idea behind having a right is that one can waive this right, if one wished. Therefore,
with assisted dying one is making a request to waive his/hers right to life, and this should be respected
(Singer, 1993, p195). A democratic government, as discussed in Chapter One, should protect all
liberties; this includes the liberty to make decisions about the end of your life. Until 1961, committing
suicide in England and Wales was considered a criminal act. The decriminalisation of suicide is used
by supporters of euthanasia as a tool to highlight the inconsistencies and discriminatory nature of the
legal system. If an individual is unable to take his own life, due to an illness or disability, and is
assisted this constitutes as a criminal

Four Categories Of Love
George Sand claimed that, there is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. Humans as a
species crave interaction and have a longing for love. Love a person feels can be the driving force for
their actions, causing people to commit inappropriate actions and have unthinkable thoughts.
However, it can also cause eternal happiness and happy endings. At a philosophic standpoint there are
four different categories for love: Philia, Storge, Agape, and Eros. Philia is often translated to mean
brotherly love or friendship. This can be the love a person feels for their friends, neighbors, co
workers, and the people in their lives below their family. When people consider others to be friends it
is often because they have shared interest or hobbies. Friends are people that a person can confide
with and feel safe with. A person wants to have this feeling with someone and because of that this type
of love can drive a person to actions they would not normally do. It is because of the connection they
feel towards that person and the closeness they feel. It might be a shared event or story. Banana
Yoshimoto wrote a novel titled, Kitchen, that involves a man and woman falling in love after a shared
experience. When Yuichi s classmate came to confront Mikage about her relationship with Yuichi she
claimed that, But love is not a joke, it also means sharing someone else s pain (Yoshimoto 72). What
the troubled, jealous girl was saying is that loving someone involves sharing connections with a
person. In this case Mikage and Yuichi shared the pain of the lose of two loved ones. Together they
were able to feel each other s pain which caused their love to grow closer as the connections
deepened. Yoshimoto continued the book by adding a second part to the novel that was a story all on
its own. In this part of the story a young woman loses the love of her life, Hitoshi. She fell into despair
and pain. At the same time as she was struggling with the lose of her best friend, another young man
was losing the love of his life. Together they created ritual to honor their loved ones without knowing

The Characterization Of Ralph In Lord Of The Flies By...
Have you ever thought about what you would do if you had the opportunity to be head manager or
chief of whatever it is you love to do? Are you positive that you have the experience to overcome the
responsibility or even the consequences? In Lord of the Flies, William Golding, uses the
characterization of Ralph to represent the overall leadership needed in order for the infants to survive
throughout the journey. It all embarks when a plane carrying a group of boys is shot down over the
Pacific and the pilot of the plane is killed. Fortunately, many of the boys survive the crash and find
themselves deserted on an uninhabited island, where later on they discover that they are alone without
adult supervision. This instantly leads to chaotic trepidation, which means an alliance would be likely
mandatory. Leadership is a key factor utilized in the story and basically without this hook, the rest of
the minors would be nearly prone to their surroundings. This would lead to a huge conflict right off
the back and affect their chances of getting off the island. Ralph expresses his confidence immediately
by feeling like he has the courage of being the leader. In the beginning, he automatically considers
himself as an option for the others to elect. In the story, William states, Jack started to protest but the
clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. (15)

Children Tend To Idolize Older People In Their Minds. Whether
Children tend to idolize older people in their minds. Whether it is a sibling, teacher or parent, they

a hero. Okonkwo, from the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, was a great warrior and

other hand, Oedipus, from the play Oedipus is King by Sophocles, was the king of his own land. He

his own life... a man who commits it will not be buried by his clansmen. His body is evil, and only
strangers may touch it (207). A king who is adored by all his people is hard to find, but Oedipus was
loved by everyone. He was kind and wise. He treated his family with care and truly loved his children
and wife. Within the book, the chorus would mention how he was loved by everyone and he cared
enough for even the poor. Oedipus even told the people that he loved the country more than they did
and that the weight of their problems were greater on him because he felt personally responsible for
everyone s problems and would do anything to help. He was thought to be foreigner to the land and
yet when he saved it from the sphinx it became his home land. The people of the land admired him
because he saved them because he answered the riddle and saved the whole town from destruction.

Underage Drinking Effects
Underage drinking has long been, and continues to be a serious public health issue in today s society.
It is broadcasted on televisions, talked about on radios, in public places, etc. The reality is that alcohol

Alcohol often results in teens having risky sexual behavior. Rapings, unplanned pregnancies, HIV

percent of the 19 million new STD infections that occur every year involve young people between the
ages of 15 and 24 (Sydner 58). Most teens do not plan on having sex, however, drinking alcohol
impairs their judgement and sometimes it even leads to rape. It has been reported by the National

represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to think more

image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this idea when they decide to

world for what they had created for the new post world generation. They even go to the extent to burn
the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By destroying the money, the boys show how all

Viewing art in Frick Museum is fascinating since it serves as a monument to an individual founder and

Special Education Student Article Analysis
In the article, where special education students are succeeding under Common Core by Ibby Caputo
was an interesting article and as an educator, it caught my attention. After all, Common core is the
duel sword of the educational community. This article follows one school through standardized testing
and how they were able to prepare their students that were on an IEP. Often a student with an IEP is
not tested to the same standard as their peers, in Delaware the test is called the DCAS Alt (Delaware

and has test scores that are eight times higher than the state average. This article does acknowledge
that the students in school PS 172 are all higher functioning delayed students. The article offers tools

How Erosion Affects The Earth Research Paper
How can Erosion Affect the Earth?
To begin this blog post, Erosion is the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other
natural agents. Erosion can change the landscape by wearing down mountains, making rivers
disappear and appear and filling valleys. Erosion usually a slow process but it speeds up by farming
and mining. Erosion starts with weathering which breaks rock soil into little pieces which then loosen
them up from the earth s surfaces. Water help erosion by carrying sand and clay but if the water is fast
and strong it could carry large rocks and larger objects. Beaches are affected by erosion which are
making shores decreasing and also cause places to not make buildings and other stuff.

Historical Precedents For The Rise Of Rock N Roll
Covers versions are credited to be one of the most important precedents for the rise of rock n roll. This
commercial and musical phenomenon is the use of a previously recorded song that is either remade or
reinterpreted by another group or artist. There is an argument that cover versions are employed by
bands and artists in order to cash in on the success that the original version provided the original artist.
However, as in all debates, there is a side that argues that cover versions reinterpret or reimage the
original song and change the experience and the meaning of the song based on how the artist or group
reinterprets or reimages it. In the following singles, California Dreamin , I Will Always Love You, and
She s Like the Wind there are examples of the latter argument of artists reinterpreting or reimaging the
original singles in their covers. Starting in California, where dreamin is a way to contemplate the
meaning of one s life. At least that is the Mamas and Papas original version of California Dreamin.
The Mamas and Papas were a group situated in Los Angles and the Southern California pop scene and
what made them emerge out among other pop or folk groups was the mixture of male and female
voices. California Dreamin, recorded by The Mamas and Papas in 1965, is credited to be an anthem of
those heady times of the 1960s. Although the single never reached the number one spot on the charts,

Obstacles In The Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
The poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes is a free verse conversation between a mother and her
son. The mother talks about the stairs using it as a metaphor for life. She outlines life not being easy
by telling her son that the stairs she ascended on was not perfect. When Langston wrote this essay, life
was difficult particular for people of color. The mother tells the son that he will have numerous
obstacles in life by saying the stairs had various challenges to get pass. Of course, the mother in the
poem tries to encourage her son to keep moving in life. The way the poem opens, it looks like the son
was feeling discouraged and asked for her advice. It appears that life had thrown a curve ball at the
son and he wants to give up. She begins

Essay about Sound Localization and Hearing Protection Devices
Introduction A hearing protection device (HPD) is often used as a protective measure in a workplace
environment when the sound levels of that environment cannot be decreased and such levels pose a
threat to the hearing of workers. An HPD is a safety device worn by individual s to protect his or her
hearing from the harmful effects of sound (Berger, 2003). A variety of occupational environments are
known to produce high levels of noise, including factories and military operations. Individuals
employed in these professions may be required to wear HPDs to reduce the risk of noise induced
hearing loss. However, certain situations in these work environments require the listener to also be
able to hear low level sounds for safety reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three main styles of HPDs are earplugs, earmuffs, and semi aural devices. Special protectors, such
as level dependent hearing protectors, are less commonly used but also have an effect on sound
localization. Earplugs are placed into the ear canal in order to block the entrance of sound by forming
a hermetic seal. Earplugs are better suited for longer use for those individuals who are exposed to
noise throughout their workday, and provide a significant amount of attenuation. However, the
effectiveness of the earplugs depends on proper insertion, and requires training employees on how to
correctly place them in the canal. The level of attenuation can vary depending on how well the earplug
is fit, as well as the motivation of the employee to wear them consistently (Berger, 2003). Earmuffs,
on the other hand, cover the entire outer ear and provide an air tight seal against the head in order to
block the entrance of sound. Earmuffs are preferred for individuals who are not exposed to a
consistent level of noise throughout the day. Rather, they are better suited for shorter periods of high
level noise during the workday. Due to the size and location on the head, they also may not be
beneficial for employees that must work in smaller, more confined spaces. However, the level of
attenuation is more consistent than earplugs, as the employees do not require extensive training on the
use of earmuffs as they are generally one sized devices (Berger, 2003).

Aristotle On The Mind Vs Intellect
In, Aristotle s On The Soul, which was translated by Hippocrates G. Apostle, Aristotle talks about the
relationship between intellect and the body. He explains how our soul has five faculties:
nutritive/vegetative, sensing, desiring, locomotion, and intellect. Aristotle discusses how intellect is
separate from the rest of our soul and/or body, specifically in book 3, chapters 4 and 5. He argues that
our senses are affected or receive forms in themselves. Intellect exists without being influenced or
blended by the forms themselves. If intellect did blend with the forms themselves, then intellect would
acquire traits, but intellect does not have any traits. Intellect allows us to think of an object without the
object itself, whereas our senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earlier in the book, Aristotle argued that matter was potential. Aristotle states, For, as we have already
stated, the term substance has three meanings, i.e., form, matter and the composite of these two; and of
these three, matter is potentiality, but form is actuality (Apostle, 414a 14). For, example, clay can be
considered potential, but clay can be sculpted into an object, like a bowl and it becomes actual. If the
potential is matter, then the passive intellect would have to have form, like the clay. However,
Aristotle does not believe that the potential intellect as a form. If the intellect does not have a form,
then what attaches it to us? What stops the intellect from vanishing? As shown, Aristotle again has
contradicted himself. It seems like the intellect contradicts a lot of the arguments that Aristotle first
gives, which makes his arguments unclear. And it also makes it so that there are many unanswered
questions about the

Baseball Game Vs Bowling Case Study
Evaluating Survey
The best part of the survey creation and distribution was the evaluation of other minor league teams
across the northeastern part of the United States. There should have been much more focus on that and
utilization of experienced sources from those clubs. Springfield is not in a competition with other
baseball markets for fan bases as most of the attendance for the Nor easters probably won t travel
further than 30 45 minutes to attend a game. In conducting that research, the marketing director for
one of the other clubs mentioned that they determine pricing versus the typical cost of other local
activities such as seeing a film or going bowling. Along with that, I would have liked to see the
restrictions and advantages for the baseball game versus those activities. For example, a baseball game
usually runs pretty long, roughly three hours, whereas bowling can be an activity at any given time.
Within the survey, creating a chart of four or five activities, including the baseball game, you could
ask the participant to rank them from highest to lowest on interest in attending/participating. ... Show

I know concessions was a big selling point to one of the marketing directors who were interviewed for
this study, but your goal is to get a family out for the experience. There is hope that they really enjoy
the game and return for future games and by fan gear. In the survey, it could have been easily brought
up that if you were allowed to bring certain food items such as sandwiches and snacks, would you
attend a game. You could use that data to compare against other data compiled based on your
questioning and consider the outside snack

Executive Summary
The Gold Coast is indisputably Australia s most popular holiday destination and offers many different
types of beachfront accommodation, award winning dining, shopping and thrilling attractions. This
marketing report aimed to devise a marketing strategy for this location. It began by scanning the
macro environment and found that the location is politically stable, although currently the entire world
is being severely affected by the economic recession. This has therefore meant that non essential

The Development And Maintenance Of Civilization Essay
Over the course of human history, order within society, through its many facets, has been considered
to be a vital part of the development and maintenance of civilization. One such aspect of order,
however, is arguably more important than all other characteristics: the creation and usage of social
constructs. A social construct is defined as a social mechanism, phenomenon, or category created and
developed by society, which aids in either the development or regression of society as a whole. While
more commonly known constructs such as race and gender shape the mindsets of societies and
civilizations as a whole over periods of time, the consequences of the existence of the construct itself
can have both a positive or negative affect. Additionally, many social constructs are interconnected
with each other, not exactly through topic matter but rather by the relationships and connections they
establish with aspects of society and its influence upon it. However, race and gender are not the only
constructs that shape mindsets and opinions, many lesser known ones also affect changes within
society. Such examples include the constructs of higher education and gender bias, two seemingly
different aspects of society and ideals. However, although they do not explicitly mention each other,
Linda Lee and Anne Fausto Sterling establish a clear connection between the two, especially in their
dealings with societal development in their respective essays The Case Against College and

To Kill A Mockingbird Eveline Alternate Ending
Prologue Eveline watched her team members run out one by one and die shot by shot. If they thought
killing James was easy they were idiots. He single handedly controlled Chicago for four months
without MPC knowing. He swiped and killed innocent mortals without notice for four months, and
these Scouts were trying to take him head on. This was why Eveline worked on her own, partners
were useless. The bodies piled up were good Scouts, MPC would only send the best for James. But if
she managed to fit it in her busy schedule, then it was something only she could do. Finally a short red
head stood behind James with the tip of her gun pressed against his head. Eveline entertained the idea
of leaving without breaking a sweat. Yes, that would be nice. Then the red headed fool destroyed
Eveline s hopes. MPC is sentencing you to death, she spouted the MPC s words. They helped avoid
lawsuits, but Eveline didn t bother. It just got you killed. Anyway, how could someone tattle if they
were dead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Challenger Explosion
On the cold morning of January 28, 1986, when the temperature hung ten degrees below freezing with
the excessive wind chill, The Challenger was set to launch from Cape Canaveral Florida. On board,
seven crew members, including the first civilian set to go to space, teacher Christa McAuliffe, awaited
the final order to launch. As thousands of children watched on television, the shuttle left the platform,
and seconds later, erupted into a plume of smoke, killing all on board. Even though the explosion of
The Challenger was a tragedy for America s space program, the disaster taught NASA many new
lessons, a promised a bright future for space exploration, and reinforced the importance of science and
math in school. One of the first lessons learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way that America is ensuring a future for space exploration is the reinforcement of math and
science in schools. The Challenger gave even more students hope for a promising future by offering
scholarships in McAuliffe s and the crew s names. Even some schools are being created and named in
honor of the fallen crew, especially McAuliffe. This is because her mission was to get people to want
to learn, which she expressed as she made her journey to The Challenger. McAuliffe Regional Charter
Public Middle School in Framing, Massachusetts annually celebrates her life by having students
research the many aspects of space. Many schools around the world teach this subject. However, this
school takes a different approach. Instead of sitting through the lectures of their teachers, students
investigate the subjects with experts, work at labs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, video
chat with researchers in Japan, and interview many specialists. There is also more focus on science,
mathematics, engineering, and technologies (STEM) at elementary schools such as McAuliffe
elementary (Simpson). This reinforcement is not only important to the future of the space program,
but it also allows many girls to have the freedom to learn without prejudice. Van Roekel, a former
teacher, explains how the timing of this integration was so critical for the developing youth by stating,
When you think of the time, that s when we really started real efforts to knock down stereotypes that
math and science were for boys and not girls. (Heitin). If girls had not felt comfortable learning about
math and science then, where would America be today? So many discoveries are made every single
day by women that our world may be completely different today if they were not encouraged at an

  • 3. Victimization In Surfacing Atwood In the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure. Despite her notable search for an understanding of Canada that is not first mediated by an English or American aesthetic. Atwood s novels are examined in a cultural context in this study, which explores the victimization of women. Victimization includes anything that affects women s survival, specifically, victimization through physical, psychological, and economic manipulation. Atwood s novels show how society sustains victimization by holding power over women. The protagonists of Atwood s novels are not satisfied with their lives, and as they explore the reasons for their discontent, come to realize that they are victims of social, economic, and political discrimination. ... Elaine ponders Rule Britannia : Because we re Britons, we will never be slaves. But we aren t real Britons, because we are also Canadians. This isn t quite as good. (80) Here, the postcolonial reality is experienced as a mild but insistent inferiority complex, a sense of internalised alienation. However, in Surfacing Atwood addressed the pressures of America s cultural colonisation of Canada, and in an interview she expanded: it s impossible to talk about Canadian literature without also talking about the fact that Canada s an economic and cultural colony . This broader view of colonialism encompasses various manifestations of national domination and suppression, and for Atwood, Canada s marginal position in terms of political and economic power places her, as its citizen, as a marginal, colonial, and postcolonial subject. Xenophobia In Elie Wiesel s Night Xenophobia marches across the planet Despite the xenophobic and racist beliefs to be completely irrational primarily because God created human as imago Dei, which means that we are all His children, at the certain periods of the history of humanity and in some circumstances these beliefs may seem logical from people s subjective point of view (Rydgren, 2004). It may happen because of the lack of information or due to the cognitive limitations that make people massively follow a charismatic leader and adhere to the suggested ideology. • 5. The Importance of the First Scene in the Film Version of... Romeo and juliet written in 1595, is one of the most famous plays of the 16th century, set in Verona. It was cleverly written by William Shakespeare, who is one of the most renowned writers of all time and the play was later produced as movie in 1996 staring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. The play is still popular as it contains universal themes of love and hate that can still be related to today. One of the importances of the first scene of the play is to introduce the audience to the majority of the lead charecters such as Romeo and Juliet, Benvolio and Tybalt, Sampson and Gregory, Lord and Lady Capulet, Lord and Lady Montague and Prince. I hate the word and continues to say the word hate throughout the play which suggests he s uncivil which eventually backfires on him later on in the play. Sampson and Gregory are clearly shown to be the better and more civil charecters as they The language used is insulting such as A dog of the house of Montague moves me. which basically means anything from the house Montague even a dog, they have no respect for therefore they wouldn t move out of it s way and would let it walk in the dirt. It s significant that the fight between the Montagues and Capulets starts first among the servants as it shows that both houses have lower status charecters in that share the same hatred for the opposite houses as the higher status charecters do. Shakespeares use of language is clever as you have to look within what the Capulets said to find the true insult. The fight between the two houses grabs the attention of the audience straight away with it s witty use of language and action. It also starts with the question that lingers throughout the rest of the play which is why exactly have they hated eachother for so long and so strongly? All this builds up tension and the crowd are constantly on the edge of their seats waiting for the events to happen that they have been told about, the fight is witnessed by the prince who decides anymore fighting will end in exile if they carry on. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of his tomb. This competition led to Egypt s most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs such as Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods they worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid the Great pyramid of Giza, and what caused those innovations? In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According to Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in the west and was reborn in the east. • 14. People s History Of The United States By Howard Zinn Essay The book People s History of the United States by the author Howard Zinn represents the history to the readers in a different perspective, making the readers look into the history in a difference lens making it insightful. What is a history? To answer this question, we must first establish a commonality in language: namely, what is history? It is a continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person which is usually written as a chronological account. The author discusses about how the major events were recorded and mainly the stories which were untold to the people and were left out of the mainstream history books. In the first few chapters he gives critical details about how America was founded by Christopher Columbus and gradually moving into detail about how he killed hundreds of native Indians in the process of capturing the country. The author then moves into giving the readers about hidden class struggles and the period of time where racism was affecting a majority of the people. Howard Zinn also mentions about the wars, the Vietnam war and the Civil war that had changed the lives of many in the past and how it has made a major impact in the past and today to the people. Some of the details in the book are real life experiences by the author, because he is not only a writer but had also served in the army in the world war two as a pilot, which makes the readers understand every detail of some events as it is told ... Growing up without a parent has a drastic effect on any child s life. The few people I ve talked to about this often ask why I have never asked my mother about him and that is hugely due to the circumstances of his death and in some ways social class. Military kids aren t supposed to cry over loved ones, but honor their memory and respect their service. We are encouraged to stand strong and often told when younger to make them proud. Our social class had a lot to do with how I learned to handle this as an officer s son whose mother is also a high ranking member of the government that pressure to maintain composure was doubled. Growing up it was often me who was chosen to speak at different memorial and veteran events. I was poised as somebody other kids who lost parents to look up to, it was up to me to show them how to act. The AAA also paid farmers subsidies to leave farm lands uncultivated by introducing tax penalties on overproduction. This led to the slaughter of over six million piglets, unfortunately. However, this core value creates difficulties for the right of self determination, this is because the right to life constricts a person s right to make autonomous decisions about his/her life (Tiensuu, 2015, p251). Which results in a paradox for the rights based argument the convention is primarily based on. The idea behind having a right is that one can waive this right, if one wished. • 26. Four Categories Of Love George Sand claimed that, there is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. Humans as a species crave interaction and have a longing for love. Love a person feels can be the driving force for their actions, causing people to commit inappropriate actions and have unthinkable thoughts. However, it can also cause eternal happiness and happy endings. At a philosophic standpoint there are four different categories for love: Philia, Storge, Agape, and Eros. Philia is often translated to mean brotherly love or friendship. This can be the love a person feels for their friends, neighbors, co workers, and the people in their lives below their family. When people consider others to be friends it is often because they have shared interest or hobbies. Friends are people that a person can confide with and feel safe with. A person wants to have this feeling with someone and because of that this type of love can drive a person to actions they would not normally do. It is because of the connection they feel towards that person and the closeness they feel. It might be a shared event or story. Banana Yoshimoto wrote a novel titled, Kitchen, that involves a man and woman falling in love after a shared experience. When Yuichi s classmate came to confront Mikage about her relationship with Yuichi she claimed that, But love is not a joke, it also means sharing someone else s pain (Yoshimoto 72). What the troubled, jealous girl was saying is that loving someone involves sharing connections with a person. In this case Mikage and Yuichi shared the pain of the lose of two loved ones. Together they were able to feel each other s pain which caused their love to grow closer as the connections deepened. Yoshimoto continued the book by adding a second part to the novel that was a story all on its own. In this part of the story a young woman loses the love of her life, Hitoshi. She fell into despair and pain. At the same time as she was struggling with the lose of her best friend, another young man was losing the love of his life. It offers special opportunities for self representation as reconciles the supposedly opposite values of private and public. They sort to retain control over their creations. The museum allows an exceptional visual understanding of a crucial aspect of the history of art. (Walter 3)The disadvantage in viewing art from Metropolitan museum is that the art, themuseum can get overly overcrowded since it is the largest museum in the United States The metropolitan museum of art is a home to the painting by Édouard Manet,TheDead Christ with the Angels and was exhibited in the Salon of 1864.The painting was created in 1864, and had a religious subject matter, and measured 5 ft 10 5/8 inches x 4 ft 11 inches. • 35. Special Education Student Article Analysis In the article, where special education students are succeeding under Common Core by Ibby Caputo was an interesting article and as an educator, it caught my attention. After all, Common core is the duel sword of the educational community. This article follows one school through standardized testing and how they were able to prepare their students that were on an IEP. Often a student with an IEP is not tested to the same standard as their peers, in Delaware the test is called the DCAS Alt (Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System Alternative). The article was written based on one district in New York and is referred to in the article as PS 172. PS 172 has been able to successfully test their students and has test scores that are eight times higher than the state average. This article does acknowledge that the students in school PS 172 are all higher functioning delayed students. The article offers tools from the common integrated co teaching (ICT) model. The impact that the ICT model has had in this school district demonstrates that teachers and specialist can work together as a team on the IEP of the student and the goals of the district at the same time. As an educator, the idea of the ICT model is useful in all classrooms. So much time is wasted with students leaving the classroom and often the transition creates behaviors. This method of push in with a specialist would help to create a bond between the specialist and the teacher. • 36. How Erosion Affects The Earth Research Paper How can Erosion Affect the Earth? To begin this blog post, Erosion is the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents. Erosion can change the landscape by wearing down mountains, making rivers disappear and appear and filling valleys. Erosion usually a slow process but it speeds up by farming and mining. Erosion starts with weathering which breaks rock soil into little pieces which then loosen them up from the earth s surfaces. Water help erosion by carrying sand and clay but if the water is fast and strong it could carry large rocks and larger objects. Beaches are affected by erosion which are making shores decreasing and also cause places to not make buildings and other stuff. How do we know when an earthquake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Bandura (1961), this study was conducted to help sociologists find out if social behaviors such as aggression, for example, can be learned by observation and imitation. For instance, Bandura, Ross and Ross (1961) tested a total of 72 children, 36 of these people were boys and the other 36 were girls from Stanford University. The participants used during this experiment were children who were between the ages of three to six years old. In the experiment, scientists used children where they were to play in a room with each other in a room full of toys. The children or participants that participated in the experiment played with photos and pictures of potatoes for approximately 10 minutes or so. During the 10 minutes of this experiment the children watched models come in and out of the room they were in during the experiment. • 38. Historical Precedents For The Rise Of Rock N Roll Covers versions are credited to be one of the most important precedents for the rise of rock n roll. This commercial and musical phenomenon is the use of a previously recorded song that is either remade or reinterpreted by another group or artist. There is an argument that cover versions are employed by bands and artists in order to cash in on the success that the original version provided the original artist. However, as in all debates, there is a side that argues that cover versions reinterpret or reimage the original song and change the experience and the meaning of the song based on how the artist or group reinterprets or reimages it. In the following singles, California Dreamin , I Will Always Love You, and She s Like the Wind there are examples of the latter argument of artists reinterpreting or reimaging the original singles in their covers. Starting in California, where dreamin is a way to contemplate the meaning of one s life. At least that is the Mamas and Papas original version of California Dreamin. The Mamas and Papas were a group situated in Los Angles and the Southern California pop scene and what made them emerge out among other pop or folk groups was the mixture of male and female voices. California Dreamin, recorded by The Mamas and Papas in 1965, is credited to be an anthem of those heady times of the 1960s. • 40. Essay about Sound Localization and Hearing Protection Devices Introduction A hearing protection device (HPD) is often used as a protective measure in a workplace environment when the sound levels of that environment cannot be decreased and such levels pose a threat to the hearing of workers. An HPD is a safety device worn by individual s to protect his or her hearing from the harmful effects of sound (Berger, 2003). A variety of occupational environments are known to produce high levels of noise, including factories and military operations. Individuals employed in these professions may be required to wear HPDs to reduce the risk of noise induced hearing loss. However, certain situations in these work environments require the listener to also be able to hear low level sounds for safety reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three main styles of HPDs are earplugs, earmuffs, and semi aural devices. Special protectors, such as level dependent hearing protectors, are less commonly used but also have an effect on sound localization. Earplugs are placed into the ear canal in order to block the entrance of sound by forming a hermetic seal. Earplugs are better suited for longer use for those individuals who are exposed to noise throughout their workday, and provide a significant amount of attenuation. However, the effectiveness of the earplugs depends on proper insertion, and requires training employees on how to correctly place them in the canal. The level of attenuation can vary depending on how well the earplug is fit, as well as the motivation of the employee to wear them consistently (Berger, 2003). Earmuffs, on the other hand, cover the entire outer ear and provide an air tight seal against the head in order to block the entrance of sound. Earmuffs are preferred for individuals who are not exposed to a consistent level of noise throughout the day. Rather, they are better suited for shorter periods of high level noise during the workday. Due to the size and location on the head, they also may not be beneficial for employees that must work in smaller, more confined spaces. However, the level of attenuation is more consistent than earplugs, as the employees do not require extensive training on the use of earmuffs as they are generally one sized devices (Berger, 2003). ... • 41. Aristotle On The Mind Vs Intellect In, Aristotle s On The Soul, which was translated by Hippocrates G. Apostle, Aristotle talks about the relationship between intellect and the body. He explains how our soul has five faculties: nutritive/vegetative, sensing, desiring, locomotion, and intellect. Aristotle discusses how intellect is separate from the rest of our soul and/or body, specifically in book 3, chapters 4 and 5. He argues that our senses are affected or receive forms in themselves. Intellect exists without being influenced or blended by the forms themselves. If intellect did blend with the forms themselves, then intellect would acquire traits, but intellect does not have any traits. Intellect allows us to think of an object without the object itself, whereas our senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earlier in the book, Aristotle argued that matter was potential. Aristotle states, For, as we have already stated, the term substance has three meanings, i.e., form, matter and the composite of these two; and of these three, matter is potentiality, but form is actuality (Apostle, 414a 14). For, example, clay can be considered potential, but clay can be sculpted into an object, like a bowl and it becomes actual. If the potential is matter, then the passive intellect would have to have form, like the clay. However, Aristotle does not believe that the potential intellect as a form. If the intellect does not have a form, then what attaches it to us? What stops the intellect from vanishing? As shown, Aristotle again has contradicted himself. It seems like the intellect contradicts a lot of the arguments that Aristotle first gives, which makes his arguments unclear. And it also makes it so that there are many unanswered questions about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Baseball Game Vs Bowling Case Study Evaluating Survey The best part of the survey creation and distribution was the evaluation of other minor league teams across the northeastern part of the United States. There should have been much more focus on that and utilization of experienced sources from those clubs. Springfield is not in a competition with other baseball markets for fan bases as most of the attendance for the Nor easters probably won t travel further than 30 45 minutes to attend a game. In conducting that research, the marketing director for one of the other clubs mentioned that they determine pricing versus the typical cost of other local activities such as seeing a film or going bowling. Along with that, I would have liked to see the restrictions and advantages for the baseball game versus those activities. For example, a baseball game usually runs pretty long, roughly three hours, whereas bowling can be an activity at any given time. Within the survey, creating a chart of four or five activities, including the baseball game, you could ask the participant to rank them from highest to lowest on interest in attending/participating. ... • 45. The Development And Maintenance Of Civilization Essay Over the course of human history, order within society, through its many facets, has been considered to be a vital part of the development and maintenance of civilization. One such aspect of order, however, is arguably more important than all other characteristics: the creation and usage of social constructs. A social construct is defined as a social mechanism, phenomenon, or category created and developed by society, which aids in either the development or regression of society as a whole. While more commonly known constructs such as race and gender shape the mindsets of societies and civilizations as a whole over periods of time, the consequences of the existence of the construct itself can have both a positive or negative affect. Additionally, many social constructs are interconnected with each other, not exactly through topic matter but rather by the relationships and connections they establish with aspects of society and its influence upon it. However, race and gender are not the only constructs that shape mindsets and opinions, many lesser known ones also affect changes within society. Such examples include the constructs of higher education and gender bias, two seemingly different aspects of society and ideals. However, although they do not explicitly mention each other, Linda Lee and Anne Fausto Sterling establish a clear connection between the two, especially in their dealings with societal development in their respective essays The Case Against College and ... As thousands of children watched on television, the shuttle left the platform, and seconds later, erupted into a plume of smoke, killing all on board. The Challenger gave even more students hope for a promising future by offering scholarships in McAuliffe s and the crew s names. Even some schools are being created and named in honor of the fallen crew, especially McAuliffe. This is because her mission was to get people to want to learn, which she expressed as she made her journey to The Challenger. McAuliffe Regional Charter Public Middle School in Framing, Massachusetts annually celebrates her life by having students research the many aspects of space. Many schools around the world teach this subject. However, this school takes a different approach. Instead of sitting through the lectures of their teachers, students investigate the subjects with experts, work at labs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, video chat with researchers in Japan, and interview many specialists. There is also more focus on science, mathematics, engineering, and technologies (STEM) at elementary schools such as McAuliffe elementary (Simpson). This reinforcement is not only important to the future of the space program, but it also allows many girls to have the freedom to learn without prejudice. Van Roekel, a former teacher, explains how the timing of this integration was so critical for the developing youth by stating, When you think of the time, that s when we really started real efforts to knock down stereotypes that math and science were for boys and not girls.
