British Influence On Australian Society
Thesis
The British were a vital part of the history of Australia. They explored the world creating colonies
all over, but January 18, 1788 is when they first colonized Australia bringing with them many
convicts from Britain. Through their exploration and colonization they traded many economic,
political, and social aspects from Britain with the aborigines that they encountered in Australia.
Without Britain sending people over to Australia, the continent known as the land down under
would not be the same today.
Exploration:
There were many people who explored Australia, but the most famous was James Cook. James
was a was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. James was

4. Aside from the occasional Indonesian trader or curious European sailor, the majority of the
Australian Indigenous population had never seen other humans for many thousands of years. Yet,
during the late 18th century, this would all change as the Europeans began to explore and inhabit
Australia.
During 1770, Captain James Cook, a British Lieutenant, landed his ship theEndeavour at Botany
Bay in New South Wales. Two Indigenous people from the area were unhappy and tried to stop
Cook and his crew from coming ashore. Cook s crew were greater in number and were able to
overpower them. They raised the British flag, which represented the taking of possession of land
(Australia) for the King of England. Cook explored further along the coast of Australia before
returning to Britain with the news of his discoveries and encounters.
This initial journey marked the beginning of great changes to the landscape of Australia and for the
local Indigenous people who lived there. The British believed they could settle on this new land in
New South Wales, which would also fix their issue of having many lawbreakers (convicts) and not
enough prisons to house them.

A Comparison of American and British TV Comedy Essay
A Comparison of American and British TV Comedy
Sit coms in television history have been one of the most important genres for expressing the
values of the middle and lower classes in our society, not in order to make fun of them but to
express the best of them in a softer way. For the general public today, the sit com is like the
pantomime was for the Victorians. British comedy still has a Victorian taste, but it is one that is
only recognized and truly appreciated by the British, which makes the British sitcoms less
universal, and it does also express a more localised British culture.
In reality, the appeal of American sit coms in relation to the British is clear. In the UK, the use of
social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Little Britain centred around two actors who created a series of sketches; different situations
which portrayed many peculiar stereotypes in English society, from a shoplifting seventeen year
old girl living in east London, to a disabled man in Birmingham on benefits who shamelessly uses
his generous best friend to help him with the basic daily tasks, despite the fact that he is perfectly
capable of doing these tasks himself.
These cultural issues make British sit coms funny to those who recognise the social types, but if
it is to be shown to an American audience the essential part of the funny elements are lost,
principally because it is not related to Americans in the same way it relates to the English. In
American sit coms the appeal is more universal; there are more general jokes and the use of class
is less than in the UK. Sit coms like Friends and Will and Grace have a more general approach
and the dramatisation of social issues is almost nonexistent. The jokes are directly related to the
actors. When Will from Will and Grace wants to make a joke he makes one, it is not his
background and his social status which is the joke but what he says. In Friends, the audience can
observe the same phenomenon. Joe s jokes have more to do with himself, or other members of the
cast, than about his new girlfriend or the

Creator In Frankenstein
What is the relationship and the responsibility between creator and the created? In the novel
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, this is the question proposed throughout the entirety of the story. In
the story, there are many references and comparisons to God, Adam, and Lucifer. Adam being God
s perfect creation and Lucifer being the exiled devil. The relationship between the creator and the
created should be like that of God and Adam. The creator is responsible for the actions of their
creation because without the creator there would be no creation. The comparisons of Frankenstein
and the Creature to God and Adam in the novelroots deeply into the mind of the reader. Both Victor
and God created life from non living things. God created Adam from... Show more content on

Upon learning to read, the Creature read Paradise lost by John Milton. Paradise Lost, in summary,
is about the fall of Lucifer and the other rebel angels; and their plan to corrupt God s new
creation, mankind ( Paradise Lost Plot Overview). After the Creature read Paradise Lost he
states that, [Adam] had come forth from the hands of God a perfect creature, happy and
prosperous, guarded by the especial care of his Creator; he was allowed to converse with and
acquire knowledge from beings of a superior nature: but I was wretched, helpless, and alone.
Many times I considered Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition; for often, like him, when I
viewed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall of envy rose within me (92). Satan is the name
given to Lucifer after his exile from Heaven. But the Creature shares traits with both Satan and
Adam. Like Satan, the Creature was exiled by his Creator; but Satan was exiled because he
waged war on God. Satan believed he was of equal or greater strength than that of his creator
(Milton 31). The Creature was exiled by Victor simply due to Victor s own ignorance as to what he

Workplace Diversity Issues
Workplace diversity policies have emerged among countless companies, in an attempt to increase
diversity among its workers. While noble in idea, the effect it is having is ultimately questionable.
In a very recent study conducted by Dover, Kaiser, and Major, its overall effect to company
diversity is negligible (John Moyer, 2016). The study went on to demonstrate diversity policies can
blind white men to racismand sexism at work and also lead to resentment (Moyer, 2016, p. 1).
This idea is reinforced via Reddit commenters anecdotes and an older study (Moyer, 2016). The
study demonstrated how whites felt threatened by companies that had workplace diversity policies
compared to companies that didn t (Moyer, 2016, p.2). In essence, as the country increases in
diversity, white peoplefeel more threatened (Moyer, 2016, p.3).
This article relates to our class by demonstrating the racial friction in America. In thinking that the
increase in diversity as threatening to the status quo, it is unsurprising that white people feel
threatened and treated unfairly. This perceived unfairness leads to racism and sexism in and out of
the workplace. Which, in turn, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study was very recent, a pleasant surprise, and it raised some interesting thoughts. I wished
the article explained how to go about increasing workplace diversity. On a side note, I found the
use of the word white people almost dehumanizing, which could easily be transferred on to the
media s (and the everyday) use of the word black people. Obviously, I found it odd, due to the fact
I am white, which entails that I have white privilege. Also citing Reddit commenters, while it is the
front page of the internet, was rather odd to see. Unsurprisingly enough, I agree with the study. I
personally remember stories told to me where the mere mention of workplace diversity was filled
with contempt. While sad, it personally validates the study s

Physical Evidence Collected At A Crime Scene
Physical evidence collected at a crime scene provides much needed information for a criminal
investigator to build his or her case. Since the inception of the Innocence Project in 1992, more
than 300 wrongfully convicted people have been exonerated after DNA testing established that
the crime for which he or she had been convicted was committed by another
(Innocenceproject.org, n.d.). Advances in forensic science makes possible the means to
individualize other items of evidence that point to the person or persons responsible for a crime.
Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the principle that is the foundation of forensic science: Every
interaction leaves a trace. A drop of sweat or a flaked off skin cell could be all that is needed to
corroborate a defendant s presence during the commission of a crime. Origins and History The
earliest documented example of doctors making the connection between cause of death and
crime can be found in a book titled HsiDuan Yu ( The Washing Away of Wrongs ) that dates back
to 1248. In this book, doctors describe establishing a case of drowning by the presence of water
in a subject s lungs and identifying a death by strangulation through observing the characteristic
ligature marks on the throat and crushed cartilage in the neck (Nickell Fischer, 2014, p. 6). This
same book recounts a case in which insect activity was used to solve a murder: in 1235, a victim
was murdered by hacking, and Tzu ordered the men in the village to put their

Pet Ownership And Perceived Well Being
The researcher s hypothesis regarding pet ownership and perceived well being was not supported
by the data. Pet ownership was not related to perceived well being, even after controlling for the
gender of participants. The results of this study concurred with the results from Staats and
colleagues (2006) study. Both studies were unable to find a significant relationship between pet
ownership and perceived well being. However, unlike Staats and colleagues (2006) study, this study
did not obtain information on whether participants subjectively believed that pet ownership would
improve their well being. Future studies should incorporate this factor in order to understand the
effect of positive psychology.
The results of this study conflicted with the other previous researches. As indicated by Jorm and
colleagues (2002), pet ownership was associated with longer survival rates in patients who had
experienced a heart attack. Unlike coronary patients, the participants of this study did not suffer
any medical conditions, and not to the researcher s knowledge, ever experienced a heart attack.
Perhaps patients who experienced a heart attack were more attached to their pets as a form of
distraction from any lingering effects of the episode.
Further, in the study conducted by McConnell and colleagues (2011), it was revealed that pet
owners experienced greater perceived well being, and were not as vulnerable to feelings of
loneliness. McConnell and colleagues (2011) had incorporated

Castle Bravo Case Study
The United States launched a nuclear testing program on the Marshall Islands (atolls). The testing
was done primarily on the Islands of Bikini and Eniwetok between 1946 and 1958, resulting in the
contamination of many of the Marshall Island (Takahashi, Fujimori, Simon, Bechtner, Edwards
and Trott, 1999). Consequences of the contamination from the 65 tests were difficult to determine
because of the cumulative nature of radiation exposure (Takahashi, 1999). However, on March 1,
1954, one discharged hydrogen bomb test on the Bikini atoll, named Castle Bravo, stood out more
than the rest (Robbins, J. Adams, W., Date unknown). Castle Bravo was different from previous
nuclear tests. It took place near ground level with an unexpected shift in the wind, causing an
enormous amount of fallout across atolls as far as 200 miles away (Robbins, Date unknown).
Rongelap (105 miles from Bikini) was reached in 4 6 hours exposing 64 inhabitants, and Ailingnae

Moving To A New School Essay
Madison Tritico
ENGL 1301 B07
Dr. Kovar
19 September, 2015
As an easy going person, I have never thought of the world as a harsh place. However, after going
through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped
me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying
needs to come to an end.
I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly.
Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small
town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large
and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother
felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was
going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing
homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making
friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan
and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school.
Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever.
I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. I walked into
the enormous building and was so overwhelmed

On Being An Atheist Mccloskey Summary
H. J. McCloskey, in his article On Being an Atheist is explaining why he believes that atheism is
more acceptable than theism. He starts by letting other atheists know that he plans to explain why
theists place their beliefs in the existence of God, why theists arguments fall short of proof, why
atheists take the stance that Goddoes not exist, and the view that theists have of atheismbeing a sad,
unfriendly view. McCloskey begins his explanation of these beliefs and views by arguing against
three proofs or arguments that drive theists belief in God as a necessary being. The three proofs he
is arguing against are the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the argument from
design. He feels that these proofs, as he calls them,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels that theists should be sad and dismal just for following their beliefs. He elaborates on
this by sharing that someone who is suffering physically or emotional or someone watching a
friend or loved one suffer would find more peace in the knowledge that God does not exist. He
states that atheists would look for compassion from fellow atheists and friends. McCloskey goes
on to state that atheists would not tell someone to look for compassion from a God that allowed
the agony to happen in the first place. He also shares that in light of there not being a God that
people should do all they can to decrease the issues that would cause someone to need
compassion. McCloskey says that fellow atheists would step up to help others in need and would
work to eliminate the problems that arise to cause pain and suffering. In response to this, we look
at William Lane Craig claims in The Absurdity of Life without God that you cannot live happily
and consistently in the atheistic view. There are three places where we find inconsistency. First,
atheists believe there is no meaning to life without God but try to create meaning and therefore
contradicts their view. Second, values of life become inconsistent in the atheistic view because you
can t live without ethics of human love and brotherhood. Without God, there is no right and wrong.
Third, there is no purpose to life and

The Invasion Of Nazi Germany
The invasion and subsequent takeover of France during World War II by Nazi Germany was a
multi pronged attack that was built on a combination of swift and prolonged attacks of
psychologic and combative violence. Psychological violence was the Nazi s intentional erosion of
French identity, values, sense of community and morality. The spread of information through
newspapers and radios was crucial to the morality and organization of the people and the
Resistance and thus a primary target of the Nazis. Germany pulled the puppet strings of the Vichy
Regime to manipulate society particularly through the use of the preexisting police force while
gradually modifying the logic and focus of the force for their own gains. The combative violence of

But such wide spread death across different strata of society brewed hatred and distrust among
the general public. This destroyed any raptor the Nazi might have built while showing that few
were truly safe. This is particularly true of Nazi retaliations that seem out of proportion and
illogical. Consider the train attack by Resistance individuals in the small town of Ascq. At
night, a small charge was detonated that temporarily delayed a train carrying troops and
equipment. Though there was no physical damage, this was a heavy psychologic blow to the
already agitated Nazi Germans. Such a bottleneck along the track would have exposed the entire
assembly to farther attacks, disrupted schedules elsewhere and left the soldiers abandoned in,
now, enemy territory. The Nazi retaliation was brutal. Per the newly adjusted regulations, nearest
village was sacked and all the adult males were rounded up and massacred at the end of the train.
Nazi responses was quick and merciless carried out in a matter of hours after the original attack.
The actions of the soldiers was explained away by the governments as acts of self defense. As
Robert Gildea stated At Ascq, the first reaction to the massacre of 2 April I944 was a wave of
hatred of the Germans. The word atrocities was now on everyone s lips in a way it had not been
since 1914 18, and there was a sense that the barbarities of the war raging in the east were now
moving to the west. Here was a concrete, undeniable example of brutality of Nazi Germany. It
quickly became a recruiting point for Resistance groups. The death on all the males of a village
including a vicar and curate could not be readily hidden away. No longer could the general public
avoid the reports of other Nazi atrocities in other countries. And so, Resistance grew into more

Should Bob Marley Have A Statue
I think Bob Marley should have a statue dedicated to his honor. I think this for three main
reasons. The first is the fact that he won the Order of Merit award. This is important for many
reasons the first is the fact that it is the fourth highest honor awarded by the nation of Jamaica. The
second reason this is so important is because it can only be given to two people a year. The final
reason this is so important is because this award can only be held by 15 people. The second reason
he deserves a statue is because he was so dedicated to his religion. Bob Marley was a Rastafarian
and as a Rasta he believed godtold everybody to always keep there body whole and he was so
devout to his religion when he was diagnosed with melanoma in his foot

Physician Assisted Suicide For The Terminally Ill Essay
Physician assisted suicide for the terminally ill is one of the most debated policies in America.
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is only considered a when a patient has a terminal illness and
expresses their right to end their life with a physician. This scenario typically takes place when a
patient is suffering severely from a terminal illness and it is only a matter of time before they will
die. Advocates for PAS have typically had a loved one who is or was suffering through their final
stages of life. Each individual state has specific laws and policies regarding the process of PAS;
however, the requirements for a patient to be considered for PAS are similar (Deathwith Dignity,
n.d.).
Presently, there are currently only five states in which PAS is legally permitted: Oregon,
Washington, California, Vermont, and Montana. In 2016, there are 20 states in which PAS laws
could change, so in order to fully understand the arguments and policies regarding PAS, one must
be aware of the key terms of PAS. The term euthanasiais often used interchangeably with PAS, but
they are different. Euthanasia occurs when a physician administers life ending drugs into a patient,
however, PAS occurs when the patient administers the life ending drugs themselves with a
physician s assistance (Death with Dignity, n.d.).
With the likely increase in states that allow PAS, there are many issues with stakeholders and
policies that need to be addressed. There will undoubtedly be ongoing

Frankenstein is a classic science fiction novel written by Mary Shelley, through the ages, many
adaptations have taken the story through various forms of popular culture. SpongeBob Squarepants,
a popular children s television show often alludes to classic literature, and makes it entertaining for

Frankenstein, but takes a spin on the classic science fiction novel. In this essay I will consider the

Essay On Ed s Tall Tales
Humankind fought numerous wars in the twentieth century. In the United States, none affected the
everyday lives of those left at home to the extent that the Second World War did. The government
rationed essential war material, such as rubber, gasoline, and numerous food items. Teens, disabled,
middle aged, and elderly, male and female, kept farms productive and factories turning out
munitions at an unprecedented level. Although people endured hardships, they also found
opportunities for adventure and financial gain. For countless people, the war changed the direction
of their lives.1 Their stories are diverse. Ed s Tall Tales
In the 1960s, during my junior high and high school years, I frequently earned money by
working for our next door neighbors, Ed and Alice Larson. In the winter, I shoveled the snow
from their sidewalks and occasionally, when the snow accumulated from multiple storms, I
cleared the snow off their roof. In the summer, I received seventy five cents each time I mowed
their grass. Since Ed provided both the lawn mower and fuel, I discounted my usual one dollar
charge for a lawn of their size.

Seeing Is Not Believing In Heartbeat By David Yoo
Optical Illusions fool your brain by seamlessly, making your brain think that something still, is
actually moving. This is a prime example of your brain just perceiving, and not actually seeing the
reality of the image. Seeing is not believing because your eyes see things that are different than
what is actually happening. This can happen due to many reasons such as, letting your emotions
cloud your own judgment, seeing an optical illusion, or even not adding up the details and failing to
realize what is actually going on. In these following paragraphs, I will explain why I believe that
seeing is not believing.
In the story Heartbeat by David Yoo, Dave is so skinny that his heartbeat shows from the outside
of his body. Thus giving him the nickname of heartbeat. In line 3 Dave explains how everybody
thinks that he is weakling because he is so skinny. In lines 11 21 it explains how Dave tries to
gain weight by working out, eating weight gaining foods, and minimizing movement. But this
whole time Dave did not see that he was actually healthy. Instead, he got depressed and felt that
he was out of place. In lines 39 40 it explains how Dave starts to wear 4 t shirts so that it looks like
that he has gained weight. In reality, Dave was actually healthy,... Show more content on

The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption
In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to
highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols
throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red,
hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by
Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness
at the start. But it was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that
made the viewer truly understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no
good thing ever dies. Music was used as a symbol in Shawshank to show the importance of... Show

This symbol was firstly shown used through Jake the crow. Jake was a very close friend of
Brooks. He had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it
back to health. Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was
found by Brooks with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was
still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was
released from prison because of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison
and represents Brooks letting go of any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He
symbolically looks for Jake while feeding the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up
and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope
with the world outside of prison as he was institutionalised and results in him committing
suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank
prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in prison when he says, Sometimes it makes
me sad, though... Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren t meant to be
caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was
a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much

the library of Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh. The study further aims to investigate
the level of satisfaction. The findings reveal that access and use of e information is an important
component of research activities for scientists. E journals, websites and email are most preferred e
resources Also there is a constructive suggestion for developing an automated library system and
remote access facility to access resources and increased electronic resources with improved library
services.
Background information
Now a day s libraries are more powerful than before, offering fast and easy information and
making fewer barriers to access information. Now in this changing scenario, information
professionals give more importance to human behavior than resources. Electronic information play
integral role in libraries, assisting the users in learning, teaching and research. Hence it is very
essential for librarians to know about the users demand for e resources which forms an integral part
of their information needs, users skills and problems faced in identifying, accessing, utilizing (Tahir,

The Effects Of Vaccination On Children And Children
published a controversial study in British journal Lancet where he linked MMR vaccination to
autism. (Should I include what his study was based on and results?) Years later, many other studies
proved it wrong but mistrust of science and mistrust of government is still there (2011). For
example, Phea Paul study stated that there is no evidence that autism is cause by any vaccineand
therefore no reason for parents to deny a child protection in today s vaccines offered (2009). His
study shows that if comparing risks mathematically of death or disability as a result of not

immunizing it increases significantly.
Despite the fact, that some people believe that vaccination is bad, majority of the population still

major cause of severe acute gastroenteritis or AGE. Previously it infected nearly every child in
United States by age of 5 years old until routine rotavirus vaccination on United States infants began

Abstract
The strength of Harley Davidson s brand and dominant market position give the firm a wide moat,

The firm has already cut production in an attempt to trim costs in line with faling demand. in
addition, just over half of Harley s motorcycle revenues are derived from retail sales made on
credit. We think that the lack of available funds on the wholesale markets and the shrinking of the
number of qualifying customers will make it difficult for the company s financial services division
to continue to support retail sales by providing credit to customers.
Harley must address some long term challenges. The firm has been focused on a narrow
demographic group (around 89% of customers are male) and the median age of Harley s customers
has been on a long term upward trend.
We believe that the firm must find ways to broaden the appeal of its brand without alienating its
core customer base. Harley has grown in recent years in the international market , and revenues
generated abroad have risen to 25% of total revenues in 2007 from 19% in 2004. Although the firm
has recently introduced a performance motorcycle for the European market, I think that it may find
it difficult to deliver customized products for overseas markets while supporting its brand franchise.

Harley s revenues could be severely hurt by a further weakening of the global economy and
increased reductions in consumer spending on high ticket discretionary items,

Captain America Character Analysis
In the 2011 film, Captain America: The First Avenger by Joe Johnston, a rejected military soldier
transforms into Captain America after taking a super soldier serum to fight in the war against a
terrorist organization, and discovers that to be the hero everyone loves sacrifices have to be made.
Steve Rogers, the main character, symbolizes a young manwho wants to fight for their country in
World War 2, but is too weak and small to be enlisted. The film reinvents the typical man by making
Steve into a super soldier making him taller, stronger, and better looking, thereby encompassing the
physicality of masculinity. However, Steve ultimately rejects the modern conceptions of what it
means to be a man which creates a new type of masculinity that focuses more on emotions and
natural goodness, and is therefore somewhat feminized. Although the film appears to just be
another stereotypical representation of a male leading others to victory fearlessly, it also challenges
the hegemonic codes for masculinity while also presenting an idea of what a real man should be.
During the beginning of the film, Steve is asked Do you wants to kill Nazi s? by Dr. Erskine,
this question is a test to see if he is fit to take the super soldier serum. Steve answers, I don t like
bullies. I don t care where they come from. By not giving into the obvious violent answer, Steve is
challenging the masculine code that men need to be violent. This is what makes Captain America
different from other

Insight Therapy Paper
Insight Therapies and Action therapies Name Institution Introduction Therapy refers to treatment
methods aimed at making people feel better or function in a better way. Insight therapy and action
therapy fall under psychotherapy. Psychotherapy refers to therapy of mental disorders, which
involves the individual talking to a professional psychologist to solve his problem. This paper
focuses on insight and action therapies. It looks at the goals, the techniques, as well as the
approaches applied in the two different kinds of therapy. The primary objective of insight therapy is
helping the patients understand and gain insight of their behavior, thought, and feelings. The main
purpose of action therapy, on the other hand, is to change poor or inappropriate behavior and
correct it so that the individual acts in a normal way. Insight therapy involves various techniques
(Glaser, 2000). These include psychodynamic therapy, person centered therapy as well as Gestalt
therapy. Action therapy, on the other hand, focuses on methods such as behavior therapy, cognitive

Essay on Three Portrayals of Climate Change
Three Portrayals of Climate Change
You are what you eat. We ve all heard the old saying, reminding us that what we take in, we can t
help but manifest. A similar axiom might apply to other things we take in, like information.
Granted, you are what you read, hear, and/or watch just doesn t have the same ring to it, but it s
operating along the same lines.
But, in yet another difference between humans and food, (P1) creative artists use a variety of
techniques to influence how we take in what they are telling us. By creative artists I mean writers,
directors, and performers, and more specifically I refer to those involved in the works The Day
After Tomorrow (DAT), An Inconvenient Truth(AIT), and Field Notes from a Catastrophe. ... Show

In the beginning, it is possible that this movie was originally intended to do some good. Though
Hollywood reeks of opportunistic capitalism, many of the writers and directors probably had some
truly artistic roots and intentions deep inside them somewhere, at some time. But ultimately, any
semblance of respectably artistic, persuasive, or credible characteristics were horribly mutated in
the name of sensationalism.
The idea for DAT may have been centered on climate change, but the writers quickly tacked on a
love story, dad son issues, crappy science, and man hunting wolves on top of the instantly induced
ice age plot. As such, the movie sacrificed an originally plausible appeal to environmentalism for
people who like a little less talk, a little more action.
The movie was not all bad. One interesting technique was to cast the concept of climate change as
inducing colder temperatures. I think that one of the leading reasons that global warming is not
being confronted more forcefully is that seriously people generally like warm weather. And, in an
extra twist of irony, the nations that are contributing the most greenhouse gases to the earth s
atmosphere are generally in cooler climates, where

The Folk Through Three Decades
This essay, by Sija Tsai, demonstrates in a historical chronology how the WFF (Winnipeg Folk
Festival) changed its suggested definition of the folk through three decades. She explored this topic
by exploring media coverage and administrator beliefs on the subject of the folklore presence at
these festivals.
The festival was inaugurated in 1974 and was originally designated to celebrate Winnipeg s
centenary. However, with its success, the festival because an annual celebration of folk. At its
beginnings, the WFF featured mostly Anglo North American and Irish folk singers. the musical
acts would feature performances (often vocal) of traditional material (often ballads) and original
material (often highly politicized) by mostly young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of the pluralization of the WFF performances had mixed reviews. Some participants
thought that the festival was betraying their folk value due to the implementation of more popular
and world artist and others argued that it was a good change and that it supported a diversity
acceptance narrative. The pluralization of performances in the WFF s continued through the 1980
s and 1990 s. During the 1990 s there was an apparent fusion of traditional and popular idioms
which further blurred the lines between its suggested binary. During the early 2000 there were
questions addressing the political issues of the program such as the apparent absence of aboriginal
performances.
In conclusion, the change in performance seen in the last three decades of the WFF shows that the
idea of the folk is tangible and is subject to change. One of the principle reason that its definition
changes is because of the underlying idea that folk music is music which features exoticism from
the normal repertoire which constitutes a Canadian identity. Therefore, while in the 1970, the
English ballads were considered different, as the performance frequency of the English ballads
were growing, its integration into the Canadian sound/music identity was being solidified. Hence,
the three decades of folk festival shows that this continuous search for the exotic and fusion is due

How Social Forces Allowed The Spread Of Flash Mob
Memes have taken over our society. They have invaded everything that we know from food,
music, movies, and TV shows. A meme is recognized as an idea, behavior, and a style that
spread through individuals within a culture. Memes come in a variety of forms such as TV and
movie references that are expressed in an image, jokes, minor everyday consequences or piece of
text. The word meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene in 1976. Now
with the internet memesspreads quickly throughout society. Bill Wasika senior editor at wired

attracts enormous audiences and, soon media attention (477). In this line, Wasik is talking about
how protests, plays, concerts, and other events don t receive that much attention as a flash mob.
During the presidential elections, political memes were all over social media. The most common
political memes that drowned social media were with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. One
meme consisted of a little boy sticking a knife into a socket, then the text reads: Trump or
Hillary? Top socket or bottom socket? This meme spread instantly after the debate. There were
some individuals who haven t watch the debate, and attention was drawn to the meme and people
realize whoever wins, either way, they are screwed. Throughout this election, attention was drawn
more to the memes than the actual election. Because people didn t pay attention to politics
directly, memes were used to inform and shape the opinion of the general public about politics.
Memes do more that bring laughter to a group of people that can relate to it, they shape the minds
of individuals on social issues. Social issues are an undesirable condition that individuals believe
should be corrected. Social issues influence many individuals within a society. Every meme has

Examine the argument that good fences make good neighbours .
When using the term Street , or Neighbourhood in context of where we live, it is usually
referencing more than just a geographical location, but rather a collective of all the elements that
go into making it what it is, especially the people. A good neighbour is someone who understands
the socially constructed rules of behaviour that goes with the title, and this essay will be looking at
how boundaries, or fences , that these mostly unwritten rules are based upon, and also, how they
are broken and repaired. The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you

His initial observations revealed that there didn t seem to be such a concept as over neighbouring

Neighbours entered our houses without hesitation... [and] took us under their wings to such an
extent that we felt as if we had been initiated into a large family. (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009,
p. 260). So to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in
everyone elses lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a Pathological
fear of privacy (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he
came to realise that the village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother
society fuelled by mistrust. The fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was
cheating another and that there were no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they assumed
that if a person could get away with with it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his

fences could make living conditions less stressful. Looking at these examples, it is clear to see
where the hypothetical (and physical) fences have their uses. According to Erving Goffman, people

Essay On The Color Purple
The Color Purple written by Alice Walker is based on a society that is rather segregated when it
comes to their differences. Due to this segregation, the perspective of one group viewing another
may be rather skewed, causing them to be stereotyped into certain social structures. The novel is
written in first person point of view, meaning that the reader gets one particular character s
version of the story. Due to this, the reader is introduced to the story through a perspective that
does not fully understand different social groups aside from her own in society as well as
different societies as a mass. One of the most prominent examples of social groups being

Efficient and Sustainable Ecosystems
Ecosystem Report:
Introduction:
Ecosystems are everywhere. Any place that contains living and non living organisms (biotic and
abiotic), that share the same space are a community, this is called an ecosystem. An ecosystem can
occupy a large space in the environment, or a very small space. To make up an ecosystem, there
must be an interrelationship between the abiotic and biotic components in the ecosystem; for
example, there must be a series of food chains in order for the different species to survive in that
particular ecosystem. Another definition of an ecosystem is:
They consist of all the organisms in a community, their biotic and abiotic environments, and
exchanges within and between each of these (Knox et al. 2010, p. 128).
The purpose of this investigation is to thoroughly study an ecosystem, to expand the knowledge of
many who wish to further understand the environment and its components. By completing this
investigation it allows for people to understand the importance and needs for having and
maintaining healthy ecosystems. For example, Ecosystems provide food both in their natural
state...in the form of managed landscapes (International Water Management Institute 2011, p. 11).
The investigations of ecosystems are vital in today s society because people can learn how to
better treat and take care of them so they are more efficient and sustainable.

incentive method offered an incentive to increase productivity but placed the responsibility on
the worker to figure out how to do it. To scientifically determine the optimal way to perform a
job, Taylor performed experiments that he called time studies, (also known as time and motion
studies). These studies were characterized by the use of a stopwatch to time a worker s sequence
of motions, with the goal of determining the one best way to perform a job. The following are
examples of some of the time and motion studies that were performed by Taylor and others in the
era of scientific management.
Pig Iron If workers were moving 12 1/2 tons of pig iron per day and they could be incentivized to
try to move 47 1/2 tons per day, left to their own wits they probably would become exhausted after
a few hours and fail to reach their goal. However, by first conducting

Revival Of The Fashion Industry
Term Paper still in Work: Revival of the Fashion Industry in Paris (1945 1960)
The French fashion industry and French Haute Couture survived the postwar era. Using high
fashion for the reconstruction of the French national image with billions of francs in state financial
assistance is due to the intertwined identity with Frenchness and fashion. The French tradition of
fashion influence is centuries old buoyed with royal patronage origins. This established the prestige
and authority as the world s tastemaker to reconstruct France in the global economy. The fashion
industry worldwide today is valued at over Вѕ trillion dollars annually.
During World War II many fashion houses closed during the occupation of Paris. Germany had
taken half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This changed in 1947 when the French designer Christian Dior launched his New Look, drastically
altering the square shouldered, straight female silhouette of the last ten years. This look was
decidedly opulent and decadent. The skirts alone used up to 30 yards of fabric, as much fabric as
10 15 wartime skirts. The fashions developed after the war reflected a hopeful and optimistic view.
Fashion reflects values and lifestyle. The prospects for the French fashion business after the war
looked rather uncertain. French designers retained a key position in the production of fashion as
they managed to authenticate their designs and brands under the challenge of mass reproduction,
copying and counterfeiting. Under the occupation, Haute Couture had been under the supervision of
the Office Art et CreВґation (OFAC) which subsisted as a government agency, pulling together the
French creative industries after the war. OFAC representatives spoke against luxury for the
masses, stating that it would be a waste to incorporate so much taste and imagination into
mediocre raw material that will promptly refuse to serve further as support to the immaterial
factors of creation. There should be no shortcuts for the prestige of Paris fashions. Therefore Paris
ought not to restart exports before being sure of again reaching its best level of production. Textile
rationing ended in July 1947 but there were still shortages in raw materials. Priorities of the

Essay On Resveratrol
Resveratrol Attenuates Neuronal Apoptosis after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via inhibiting the
expression of TXNIP in Rats Abstract Objective: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a fatal
condition with a few available effective treatments. Resveratrol (RES), a natural polyphenolic
compound, has a powerful anti apoptosis property. In addition, its neuroprotective effects has been
exhibited in neurodegenerative diseases, ischemic brain damage, and SAH. However, the
underlying molecular mechanism of RES in protecting against early brain injury (EBI) after SAH
remains unclear. Our preliminary findings have revealed that thioredoxin interacting protein
(TXNIP) might participate in EBI by promoting neuronal apoptosis. The purpose of this study was

Introduction Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), predominantly caused by a ruptured aneurysm, is
a devastating neurological disease that has a morbidity and mortality rate higher than 50% [1].
Early brain injury (EBI) was reported as the primary cause of mortality and poor outcomes in
SAH patients [2 4]. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies aiming at elucidating EBI after SAH
are required. It has been proven that a series of complex pathophysiological processes are involved
in the pathogenesis of EBI. Among them, neuronal apoptosis plays a vital role [3,5,6]. Therefore,
preventing neuronal apoptosis can be a prospective target to improve severe neurological deficits
and outcomes in patients with SAH. Resveratrol (trans 3, 4′, 5 trihydroxystilbene, RES), a
natural polyphenolic compound mainly found in grape skin and red wine, has attracted wide
attention lately because of its antioxidant, anti inflammation, anti aging, anti diabetes effects as
well as control of cell cycle and apoptosis [7 9]. It has been proven that RES can cross the blood
brain barrier (BBB) [10]. Previous studies have shown that RES induced anti apoptosis in various
diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases [11 14]. Many
investigators affirm that RES can reduce the neuronal apoptosis, but very few reports are available
regarding the underlying molecular mechanisms of reducing neuronal

Choosing A Vietnamese Restaurant Known As Pho House
For my project, I decided to choose a Vietnamese Restaurant known as Pho House that had a wide
variety of traditional Phб»џ or noodle soup that is unique to Vietnam. It is a small chain style
restaurant that popular location for Vietnamese style food. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I
immediately noticed various aspects of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian culture. For instance, the
architecture of the restaurant involved thick wooden pillars, a wooden ceiling, a smooth wooden
floor, and ornaments around the periphery of the restaurant. Also, I noticed various paintings that
depicted some familiar aspects of Vietnam such as a painting of a traditional village high up in the
mountains and a painting of an instructor who was teaching a... Show more content on

This instance is a unique demonstration of one of the many aspects of Confucianism: collectivism.
Through collectivism A human being is born to be a member not only of a family, but a village and,
in a broader sense, a member of a country. (Nghia 2013:10). I was able to observe the influence of
Confucianism on Vietnamese culture as the manager described why he choose these employees. He
mentioned that the employees were going through the same struggle that [he] went through when
[he] was young... [he] did not speak English very well... . This particular instance allowed me to
better understand ways in which unique Vietnamese values were able to be sustained in Western
Culture. I was surprised initially because I had thought that the restaurant had preserved their
culture physically through their architecture, cooking, and paintings. Instead, this represents an
aspect of Vietnamese culture that one cannot simply understand through physical observation, it
represents a deep rooted sense of integrity that is characteristic of Vietnamese culture. Through this
conversation, I began to better understand how immigrants of a minority population such as
Vietnam, were able to preserve their culture despite it being easier to simply succumb to values
popular in Western culture such as collectivism. Thus far, the concept of Confucianism has served
as an example of how aspects of Vietnamese culture are still present in the Vietnamese descendents

Fire Room Presentations
Negative attitudes and focuses only conjure up similar emotions and attitudes. Similarly, technology
and the social practices continue to creep from society into the fire stations threatening to divide
teams. In today s fire service, team building and motivation are necessary to maximize department
operations. This week s presentation focused on the impact of such activities as to how they benefit,
improve, and are used in fire departments. The three presentations that I reviewed specifically
covered one of the three aspects, while bringing up the remaining. The three presentations I
reviewed were created by Matt Halfacre, Colin Field, and Brett Schimmack.

While seeming to be focused more on volunteer and career departments that have members that live
at the fire station, the premise of his research can improve the fire service as a whole. Through his
supporting article, Eating together at the Firehouse: How Workplace Commensality Relates to the
Performance of Firefighters it is evident that fire department personnel that put an emphasis on
communal interaction have an improved performance level, and higher job satisfaction. The idea of
eating and preparing meals together as a shift in the fire service was studied through this
documented research. Examining the results of this research Matt was able to summarize that
meals are an aspect of team building and an important aspect to improving motivation. It allows for
an informal communication setting as well as encouraging member participation. The presentation
supported the benefits found in Brett s presentation and showed the use of an everyday activity to
work on team improvement. The only missing element of this presentation was a clear
incorporation of the week s course material, yet the presentation was very informative and well

2.8 CA3130 Op Amp
CA3130A and CA3130 are op amp that combine the advantage of both CMOS and bipolar
transistors. Gate protected P channel MOSFET transistor are used in the input circuit to provide
very high input impedance, very low input current and exceptional speed performance. The use of
P,OS transistor in the input stage results in common mode input voltage capability down to 0.5V
below the negative supply terminal, an important attribute in single supply application.
The CA3130 series circuit operates at supply voltage ranging from 5V to 16V. They can be phase
compensated with a single external capacitor, and have terminals for adjustment of offset voltage

  • 2. British Influence On Australian Society Thesis The British were a vital part of the history of Australia. They explored the world creating colonies all over, but January 18, 1788 is when they first colonized Australia bringing with them many convicts from Britain. Through their exploration and colonization they traded many economic, political, and social aspects from Britain with the aborigines that they encountered in Australia. Without Britain sending people over to Australia, the continent known as the land down under would not be the same today. Aside from the occasional Indonesian trader or curious European sailor, the majority of the Australian Indigenous population had never seen other humans for many thousands of years. Yet, during the late 18th century, this would all change as the Europeans began to explore and inhabit Australia. During 1770, Captain James Cook, a British Lieutenant, landed his ship theEndeavour at Botany Bay in New South Wales. Two Indigenous people from the area were unhappy and tried to stop Cook and his crew from coming ashore. Cook s crew were greater in number and were able to overpower them. They raised the British flag, which represented the taking of possession of land (Australia) for the King of England. Cook explored further along the coast of Australia before returning to Britain with the news of his discoveries and encounters. This initial journey marked the beginning of great changes to the landscape of Australia and for the local Indigenous people who lived there. The British believed they could settle on this new land in New South Wales, which would also fix their issue of having many lawbreakers (convicts) and not enough prisons to house them. A Comparison of American and British TV Comedy Essay A Comparison of American and British TV Comedy Sit coms in television history have been one of the most important genres for expressing the values of the middle and lower classes in our society, not in order to make fun of them but to express the best of them in a softer way. For the general public today, the sit com is like the pantomime was for the Victorians. British comedy still has a Victorian taste, but it is one that is only recognized and truly appreciated by the British, which makes the British sitcoms less universal, and it does also express a more localised British culture. In reality, the appeal of American sit coms in relation to the British is clear. In the UK, the use of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little Britain centred around two actors who created a series of sketches; different situations which portrayed many peculiar stereotypes in English society, from a shoplifting seventeen year old girl living in east London, to a disabled man in Birmingham on benefits who shamelessly uses his generous best friend to help him with the basic daily tasks, despite the fact that he is perfectly capable of doing these tasks himself. These cultural issues make British sit coms funny to those who recognise the social types, but if it is to be shown to an American audience the essential part of the funny elements are lost, principally because it is not related to Americans in the same way it relates to the English. In American sit coms the appeal is more universal; there are more general jokes and the use of class is less than in the UK. Sit coms like Friends and Will and Grace have a more general approach and the dramatisation of social issues is almost nonexistent. The jokes are directly related to the actors. When Will from Will and Grace wants to make a joke he makes one, it is not his background and his social status which is the joke but what he says. In Friends, the audience can observe the same phenomenon. Joe s jokes have more to do with himself, or other members of the cast, than about his new girlfriend or the ... In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, this is the question proposed throughout the entirety of the story. In the story, there are many references and comparisons to God, Adam, and Lucifer. Many times I considered Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition; for often, like him, when I viewed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall of envy rose within me (92). Satan is the name given to Lucifer after his exile from Heaven. But the Creature shares traits with both Satan and Adam. • 5. Workplace Diversity Issues Workplace diversity policies have emerged among countless companies, in an attempt to increase diversity among its workers. While noble in idea, the effect it is having is ultimately questionable. In a very recent study conducted by Dover, Kaiser, and Major, its overall effect to company diversity is negligible (John Moyer, 2016). The study went on to demonstrate diversity policies can blind white men to racismand sexism at work and also lead to resentment (Moyer, 2016, p. 1). This idea is reinforced via Reddit commenters anecdotes and an older study (Moyer, 2016). The study demonstrated how whites felt threatened by companies that had workplace diversity policies compared to companies that didn t (Moyer, 2016, p.2). In essence, as the country increases in diversity, white peoplefeel more threatened (Moyer, 2016, p.3). This article relates to our class by demonstrating the racial friction in America. Obviously, I found it odd, due to the fact I am white, which entails that I have white privilege. Also citing Reddit commenters, while it is the front page of the internet, was rather odd to see. • 6. Physical Evidence Collected At A Crime Scene Physical evidence collected at a crime scene provides much needed information for a criminal investigator to build his or her case. Since the inception of the Innocence Project in 1992, more than 300 wrongfully convicted people have been exonerated after DNA testing established that the crime for which he or she had been convicted was committed by another (Innocenceproject.org, n.d.). Advances in forensic science makes possible the means to individualize other items of evidence that point to the person or persons responsible for a crime. Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the principle that is the foundation of forensic science: Every interaction leaves a trace. A drop of sweat or a flaked off skin cell could be all that is needed to corroborate a defendant s presence during the commission of a crime. Origins and History The earliest documented example of doctors making the connection between cause of death and crime can be found in a book titled HsiDuan Yu ( The Washing Away of Wrongs ) that dates back to 1248. In this book, doctors describe establishing a case of drowning by the presence of water in a subject s lungs and identifying a death by strangulation through observing the characteristic ligature marks on the throat and crushed cartilage in the neck (Nickell Fischer, 2014, p. 6). This same book recounts a case in which insect activity was used to solve a murder: in 1235, a victim was murdered by hacking, and Tzu ordered the men in the village to put their ... • 7. Pet Ownership And Perceived Well Being The researcher s hypothesis regarding pet ownership and perceived well being was not supported by the data. Pet ownership was not related to perceived well being, even after controlling for the gender of participants. The results of this study concurred with the results from Staats and colleagues (2006) study. Both studies were unable to find a significant relationship between pet ownership and perceived well being. However, unlike Staats and colleagues (2006) study, this study did not obtain information on whether participants subjectively believed that pet ownership would improve their well being. Future studies should incorporate this factor in order to understand the effect of positive psychology. The results of this study conflicted with the other previous researches. As indicated by Jorm and colleagues (2002), pet ownership was associated with longer survival rates in patients who had experienced a heart attack. Unlike coronary patients, the participants of this study did not suffer any medical conditions, and not to the researcher s knowledge, ever experienced a heart attack. Perhaps patients who experienced a heart attack were more attached to their pets as a form of distraction from any lingering effects of the episode. Further, in the study conducted by McConnell and colleagues (2011), it was revealed that pet owners experienced greater perceived well being, and were not as vulnerable to feelings of loneliness. • 8. Castle Bravo Case Study The United States launched a nuclear testing program on the Marshall Islands (atolls). The testing was done primarily on the Islands of Bikini and Eniwetok between 1946 and 1958, resulting in the contamination of many of the Marshall Island (Takahashi, Fujimori, Simon, Bechtner, Edwards and Trott, 1999). Consequences of the contamination from the 65 tests were difficult to determine because of the cumulative nature of radiation exposure (Takahashi, 1999). However, on March 1, 1954, one discharged hydrogen bomb test on the Bikini atoll, named Castle Bravo, stood out more than the rest (Robbins, J. Adams, W., Date unknown). However, after going through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs to come to an end. I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly. Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever. I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. • 10. On Being An Atheist Mccloskey Summary H. J. McCloskey, in his article On Being an Atheist is explaining why he believes that atheism is more acceptable than theism. He starts by letting other atheists know that he plans to explain why theists place their beliefs in the existence of God, why theists arguments fall short of proof, why atheists take the stance that Goddoes not exist, and the view that theists have of atheismbeing a sad, unfriendly view. McCloskey begins his explanation of these beliefs and views by arguing against three proofs or arguments that drive theists belief in God as a necessary being. The three proofs he is arguing against are the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the argument from design. He feels that these proofs, as he calls them,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He feels that theists should be sad and dismal just for following their beliefs. He elaborates on this by sharing that someone who is suffering physically or emotional or someone watching a friend or loved one suffer would find more peace in the knowledge that God does not exist. He states that atheists would look for compassion from fellow atheists and friends. McCloskey goes on to state that atheists would not tell someone to look for compassion from a God that allowed the agony to happen in the first place. He also shares that in light of there not being a God that people should do all they can to decrease the issues that would cause someone to need compassion. McCloskey says that fellow atheists would step up to help others in need and would work to eliminate the problems that arise to cause pain and suffering. In response to this, we look at William Lane Craig claims in The Absurdity of Life without God that you cannot live happily and consistently in the atheistic view. There are three places where we find inconsistency. First, atheists believe there is no meaning to life without God but try to create meaning and therefore contradicts their view. Second, values of life become inconsistent in the atheistic view because you can t live without ethics of human love and brotherhood. Without God, there is no right and wrong. The Invasion Of Nazi Germany The invasion and subsequent takeover of France during World War II by Nazi Germany was a multi pronged attack that was built on a combination of swift and prolonged attacks of psychologic and combative violence. Psychological violence was the Nazi s intentional erosion of French identity, values, sense of community and morality. The spread of information through newspapers and radios was crucial to the morality and organization of the people and the Resistance and thus a primary target of the Nazis. This destroyed any raptor the Nazi might have built while showing that few were truly safe. This is particularly true of Nazi retaliations that seem out of proportion and illogical. Consider the train attack by Resistance individuals in the small town of Ascq. At night, a small charge was detonated that temporarily delayed a train carrying troops and equipment. Though there was no physical damage, this was a heavy psychologic blow to the already agitated Nazi Germans. Such a bottleneck along the track would have exposed the entire assembly to farther attacks, disrupted schedules elsewhere and left the soldiers abandoned in, now, enemy territory. The Nazi retaliation was brutal. Per the newly adjusted regulations, nearest village was sacked and all the adult males were rounded up and massacred at the end of the train. Nazi responses was quick and merciless carried out in a matter of hours after the original attack. The actions of the soldiers was explained away by the governments as acts of self defense. As Robert Gildea stated At Ascq, the first reaction to the massacre of 2 April I944 was a wave of hatred of the Germans. The word atrocities was now on everyone s lips in a way it had not been since 1914 18, and there was a sense that the barbarities of the war raging in the east were now moving to the west. Here was a concrete, undeniable example of brutality of Nazi Germany. It quickly became a recruiting point for Resistance groups. The death on all the males of a village including a vicar and curate could not be readily hidden away. The second reason this is so important is because it can only be given to two people a year. The final reason this is so important is because this award can only be held by 15 people. Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is only considered a when a patient has a terminal illness and expresses their right to end their life with a physician. This scenario typically takes place when a patient is suffering severely from a terminal illness and it is only a matter of time before they will die. Advocates for PAS have typically had a loved one who is or was suffering through their final stages of life. Each individual state has specific laws and policies regarding the process of PAS; however, the requirements for a patient to be considered for PAS are similar (Deathwith Dignity, n.d.). Presently, there are currently only five states in which PAS is legally permitted: Oregon, Washington, California, Vermont, and Montana. In 2016, there are 20 states in which PAS laws could change, so in order to fully understand the arguments and policies regarding PAS, one must be aware of the key terms of PAS. The term euthanasiais often used interchangeably with PAS, but they are different. Euthanasia occurs when a physician administers life ending drugs into a patient, however, PAS occurs when the patient administers the life ending drugs themselves with a physician s assistance (Death with Dignity, n.d.). In the United States, none affected the everyday lives of those left at home to the extent that the Second World War did. The government rationed essential war material, such as rubber, gasoline, and numerous food items. Teens, disabled, middle aged, and elderly, male and female, kept farms productive and factories turning out munitions at an unprecedented level. This is a prime example of your brain just perceiving, and not actually seeing the reality of the image. Seeing is not believing because your eyes see things that are different than what is actually happening. This can happen due to many reasons such as, letting your emotions cloud your own judgment, seeing an optical illusion, or even not adding up the details and failing to realize what is actually going on. In these following paragraphs, I will explain why I believe that seeing is not believing. In the story Heartbeat by David Yoo, Dave is so skinny that his heartbeat shows from the outside of his body. Jake shows that hope was still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because of parole. The idea for DAT may have been centered on climate change, but the writers quickly tacked on a love story, dad son issues, crappy science, and man hunting wolves on top of the instantly induced ice age plot. As such, the movie sacrificed an originally plausible appeal to environmentalism for people who like a little less talk, a little more action. The movie was not all bad. One interesting technique was to cast the concept of climate change as inducing colder temperatures. I think that one of the leading reasons that global warming is not being confronted more forcefully is that seriously people generally like warm weather. And, in an extra twist of irony, the nations that are contributing the most greenhouse gases to the earth s atmosphere are generally in cooler climates, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Folk Through Three Decades This essay, by Sija Tsai, demonstrates in a historical chronology how the WFF (Winnipeg Folk Festival) changed its suggested definition of the folk through three decades. She explored this topic by exploring media coverage and administrator beliefs on the subject of the folklore presence at these festivals. The festival was inaugurated in 1974 and was originally designated to celebrate Winnipeg s centenary. However, with its success, the festival because an annual celebration of folk. At its beginnings, the WFF featured mostly Anglo North American and Irish folk singers. the musical acts would feature performances (often vocal) of traditional material (often ballads) and original material (often highly politicized) by mostly young ... Some participants thought that the festival was betraying their folk value due to the implementation of more popular and world artist and others argued that it was a good change and that it supported a diversity acceptance narrative. The pluralization of performances in the WFF s continued through the 1980 s and 1990 s. During the 1990 s there was an apparent fusion of traditional and popular idioms which further blurred the lines between its suggested binary. During the early 2000 there were questions addressing the political issues of the program such as the apparent absence of aboriginal performances. In conclusion, the change in performance seen in the last three decades of the WFF shows that the idea of the folk is tangible and is subject to change. One of the principle reason that its definition changes is because of the underlying idea that folk music is music which features exoticism from the normal repertoire which constitutes a Canadian identity. Therefore, while in the 1970, the English ballads were considered different, as the performance frequency of the English ballads were growing, its integration into the Canadian sound/music identity was being solidified. Hence, the three decades of folk festival shows that this continuous search for the exotic and fusion is due in part of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Any place that contains living and non living organisms (biotic and abiotic), that share the same space are a community, this is called an ecosystem. An ecosystem can occupy a large space in the environment, or a very small space. To make up an ecosystem, there must be an interrelationship between the abiotic and biotic components in the ecosystem; for example, there must be a series of food chains in order for the different species to survive in that particular ecosystem. Another definition of an ecosystem is: They consist of all the organisms in a community, their biotic and abiotic environments, and exchanges within and between each of these (Knox et al. 2010, p. 128). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), predominantly caused by a ruptured aneurysm, is a devastating neurological disease that has a morbidity and mortality rate higher than 50% [1]. Early brain injury (EBI) was reported as the primary cause of mortality and poor outcomes in SAH patients [2 4]. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies aiming at elucidating EBI after SAH are required. It has been proven that a series of complex pathophysiological processes are involved in the pathogenesis of EBI. Among them, neuronal apoptosis plays a vital role [3,5,6]. Therefore, preventing neuronal apoptosis can be a prospective target to improve severe neurological deficits and outcomes in patients with SAH. Resveratrol (trans 3, 4′, 5 trihydroxystilbene, RES), a natural polyphenolic compound mainly found in grape skin and red wine, has attracted wide attention lately because of its antioxidant, anti inflammation, anti aging, anti diabetes effects as well as control of cell cycle and apoptosis [7 9].
