This document discusses amyloidosis, a disease caused by the deposition of abnormal proteins in tissues which can affect organ function over time. It is a chronic, sometimes infectious disease that produces symptoms through four cardiovascular syndromes. Diagnosis involves cardiological tests and biopsy of affected tissues. The prognosis is very bad as there is no cure, though treatment seeks to manage heart failure symptoms to improve quality of life. It affects more men than women and usually occurs after age 40.
