Nanoelectronics
Nano- :
From the Greek nanos -
meaning "dwarf ”, this prefix
is used in the metric system
to mean 10-9 or
1/1,000,000,000.
 Nanoelectronics refer to the use of
nanotechnology in electronic
components.
 Nanotechnology is the creation of
functional materials, devices, and systems
through control of matter on the
nanoscale and the exploitation of novel
properties and phenomena developed at
that scale.

 The term Nanoelectronics covers a
diverse set of devices and materials, with
the common characteristic that they are
so small that inter-atomic interactions
and quantum mechanical properties
need to be studied extensively.
 Nanoelectronics are sometimes
considered as disruptive technology
because present candidates are
significantly different from traditional
transistors.
 Some of these candidates include:
1. Hybrid molecular/semiconductor
electronics
2. One-dimensional nanotubes/nanowires
3. Advanced molecular electronics
 The field of nanoelectronics aims to
enable the continued realization of
Moore’s law by using new methods and
materials to build electronic devices with
feature sizes on the nanoscale.
Moore's law
 Moore's law is the observation that the
number of transistors in a dense integrated
circuit doubles approximately every two
years.
 The observation is named after Gordon
Moore, the co-founder of Intel and Fairchild
Semiconductor, whose 1965 paper described
a doubling every year in the number of
components per integrated circuit, and
projected this rate of growth would continue
for at least another decade

Nanoelectronics

  • 2. Nano- : From the Greek nanos - meaning "dwarf ”, this prefix is used in the metric system to mean 10-9 or 1/1,000,000,000.
  • 3.  Nanoelectronics refer to the use of nanotechnology in electronic components.  Nanotechnology is the creation of functional materials, devices, and systems through control of matter on the nanoscale and the exploitation of novel properties and phenomena developed at that scale.
  • 5.  The term Nanoelectronics covers a diverse set of devices and materials, with the common characteristic that they are so small that inter-atomic interactions and quantum mechanical properties need to be studied extensively.  Nanoelectronics are sometimes considered as disruptive technology because present candidates are significantly different from traditional transistors.
  • 6.  Some of these candidates include: 1. Hybrid molecular/semiconductor electronics 2. One-dimensional nanotubes/nanowires 3. Advanced molecular electronics  The field of nanoelectronics aims to enable the continued realization of Moore’s law by using new methods and materials to build electronic devices with feature sizes on the nanoscale.

Moore's law  Moore's law is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years.  The observation is named after Gordon Moore, the co-founder of Intel and Fairchild Semiconductor, whose 1965 paper described a doubling every year in the number of components per integrated circuit, and projected this rate of growth would continue for at least another decade
