Secular Monks In The USAF
POSITION PAPER
ON
SECULAR CHAPLAINS IN THE USAF
1. There is a significant population within the ranks of the USAF that does not identify with a religion
and is left unrepresented. This paper will discuss the benefits the addition of secular chaplains brings
to the USAF Chaplain Corps, challenges to be overcome, and the benefits to the Airmen of the Total
Force.
2. There is a growing shortage of chaplains within Air Force ranks, as well as the greater Department
of Defense.1 This situation has devolved to the point that some bases are left without chaplain support
for extended periods of time.2 This is a potentially catastrophic condition, as Airmen are left without
aid to maintain their spiritual health. This problem is demonstrative of ... Show more content on

Materialism During The Romantic Poem Era
Materialism, toxic to our happiness, yet often ignored. Materialism was a pressing social issue during
the industrial revolution and the Romantic Poem Era. It was written about by many well known
Romantic poets of the time including; Blake, Shelley, Coleridge and Wordsworth. Despite the
extensive development of the world from the times of Romantic Poets to our modern day society,
materialisation is still present. This issue has it s claws sunk into our modern world, with
contemporary artists Madonna, Pink Floyd and AC DC writing about their outlooks on the subject.
Materialism demonstrated by poets during the Romantic Era is still relevant in modern society and
contemporary artist s lyrics.
The context in which these lyrics and poem were written depended on the world around the authors.
William Wordsworth, was a Romantic Era poet, of spiritual and epistemological speculation...
concerned with the human relationship to nature 5. Wordsworth was living in the midst of the
industrial revolution, where people felt they had to move forward with the technology of the time.
They then became wrapped in consumerism and materialism, whilst moving away from nature. The
Romantics weren t very enthusiastic about these changes they were especially concerned about people
moving away from nature 8. The World is Too Much with Us, written by Wordsworth, explores
societies movement away from nature and towards the mechanical world. Whereas, the band AC DC
explores the subject of

Beowulf As An Epic Hero Research Paper
Beowulf as an Epic Hero An epic hero is an individual who performs heroic deeds and possesses
supernatural character traits. Beowulf is considered an epic hero because he killed Grendel, Grendel s
mother, and a dragon. He is a loyal, head strong, and a brave character. At the end of the epic Beowulf
also exemplifies these traits, when he rules over the Geats. Beowulf is admired for his heroic deeds
and has become immortal. Although he is dead, his legacy will live on forever. Beowulf is significant
and glorified by many individuals. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the

Beowulf decided to attack the dragon he told the people, I risked my life often when I was young...

Kidney Transplant Surgery
Last week I read the article, Transplant surgery Kidney transplant. I found this on the website,
Transplantation Surgery University of California San Francisco, and it was written by The University
of California. The article that I read was 9 pages long back to back. This article was about kidney
transplants. The reason that I chose this article is because it seemed interesting to learn about, and
because I want to learn more about different types of surgery out their and what there like. Kidney
disease is a major health issue in the US affecting more than 8 million American citizens. When a
person s kidney drops down to a certain level patients are required to get either a dialysis or a kidney
transplant to save their life. A dialysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This operation is a heterotopic transplant. Heterotopic means that the kidney is placed in a different

The Greenhouse Effect On The World
Introduction
Most people around the world do not fully understand the meaning of the greenhouse effect, or the
affects the greenhouse effect has on the world. In fact, many believe that the greenhouse effect is
simply contributes to global warming, and that it has no real value to the earth. But what many are not
aware of it that the greenhouse effect is the planet s natural way of obtaining a specific temperature in
which living organisms can survive. Many people are not aware of the consequences that our way of
life has on the planet, and soon, with the help of global warming, we will all understand.
Greenhouse gasses There are three main greenhouse gases that play a large role in keeping our planet
at a stable temperature; carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Other gases produced are
troposheric ozone, CFC 12, HCFC 22, and sulfur hexafluoride. The greenhouse effect used to have no
legitimate harm on earth, but, humans have been the reason for the increase in these greenhouse gases,
therefore creating what we know today as; global warming. Without these greenhouse gases, the earth
would be so incredibly cold that no living entity could survive.
Importance of the Greenhouse Effect Because the greenhouse effect is usually only discussed in the
context of global warming, this natural process is neglected to be appreciated for its vital role in the
planet. Without having the greenhouse effect, there would be no weather on Earth. All of the

Cost implications for road widening is medium to high and this is a drawback
Road widening is a time dependent project to undertake and is not an immediate solution.
Lanes can only be kept to a width of 3 to reduce incompetent drivers from straddling the main street
and the additional lane causing accidents.
Movable Barriers
The barrier system is one of the lower priority solutions to be considered as it is for straight roads.
This project would require an alternative, however it is a innovative alternative that is immediate and
non invasive.
Pros: No need for destruction of existing and redesign

Sample Extraction Technique Is Necessary For Various Other...
Mel cepstral feature extraction technique is required in some or the other form in most of the latest
speech and speaker recognition system. Here, first samples of speech are splitted into overlapping
frames. Generally the length of frame is 25 ms and frame rate is 10 ms. Each and every frames are
refined by pre emphasis filter which amplifies higher frequencies. Next is to apply windowing so that
Fourier spectrum for each windowing frame is achieved here Hamming window is used. To obtain
vector of log energy, Mel spaced bank of filter is used which varies from 20 to 40 depending upon the
requirement of particular application. The output of which is converted to give cepstral coefficients
using DCT. Initially for computing the feature vector, 12 coefficients are obtained along with one
energy make its 13 cepstral coefficient. The extended MFCC consist of triple differentiation. 1St order
differentiation is known as Delta coefficient is denoted by _D which has 13 delta cepstral coefficients.
2Nd order differentiation is known as Acceleration coefficient is denoted by _A having 13 delta delta
coefficients. 3Rd order differentiation is known as Third order (Triple delta) coefficient is denoted by
_T which again has 13 triple delta coefficients. Its is said that standard MFCC is given by 39 feature
vector and extended is given by 52 standard vector [1]. When training and testing is performed in
noisy environment, there is severe mismatch which also effects the features.

A Journey Of A Month Without Chocolate Essay
Introduction I would like to take you on a journey of a month without chocolate. This may sound
trivial, but it was more impactful than I could have imagined. We will cross several intersections along
the way. Join me as I tell of my experience, including symptoms of withdrawal, cravings, and
temptations. At the crossroads of Expectancies, we will discuss why I chose to abstain from chocolate,
what supports I relied on, and what I expected them to provide. I will share what motivated me to
change, and my expectation of success or failure. Finally, I will tell you about anything that I
anticipated would impede my success. Once we cross over Expectancies we will travel down the road
to Reflections where we will look back on my experience, highlighting my struggles, successes,
insights, and setbacks. I will share with you how I believed my own biological programming
influenced me, what psychological effects I experienced, and the impact the world around me had on
my journey. We will then proceed to the intersection of Education where I will tell you what I learned
about myself, relapse, relapse prevention, behavior and how my attitude changed. I will share with
you how my motivation changed over the abstinence period. I will identify triggers and what I decide
I would do to handle them in the future. As we come to the end of our journey I will explore what I
have learned about addiction, addicts, and treatment, and how I chose to approach abstinence in the

Maturity In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain explores the ideas of growth and maturity as
shown through Huck s realization of Jim s humanity, his choice choosing to steal the money from the
Duke and King, and finally, his decision to help Jim become a free man. One example of growth and
maturity in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Huck s gradual realization that Jim was a human
being and his growing sympathy towards him. Huck states, I do believe he cared just as much for his
people as white folks do for their n (Twain 155). Huck deals with constant inner conflict during his
many adventures. He is pressured by society s view on slavery, influencing Huck to turn in Jim and
force him back into bondage. But, as worded by Joseph

Altruistic Nature Of Don s Relationship
Every morning, Don wakes up shortly after midnight to prepare for an eight hour workshift. Shortly
after, he leaves his house and makes his way to the local post office, where he works as a mail carrier.
By nine o clock he has clocked out and is on his way to work another full work day as a self employed

matter that some guy in some corn growing city delivers mail and cuts down trees? Well, Don has

An Integrated Signal Conditioning Block For Electrocardiogram
The AD8232 is an integrated signal conditioning block for Electrocardiogram, which is designed for
extraction, amplification and filtering of small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions,
created by motion or remote electrode placement. The AD8232 has essential pins like shutdown pin,
leadoff+, leadoff , analog output, 3.3v, gnd to operate with the Arduino Mega 2560. There also exist
RA(Right Arm),LA(Left Arm), RL(right leg) pins to attach to the custom sensor of human body . It
has an led indicator which pulsates with the rhythm of a heartbeat
.2.2.6 Heartbeat Sensor
The Heartbeat sensor works on the principle of photoplethysmography which is a method of not
invading the body for measuring heartbeat. It provides a simple way to obtain the function of the
heart. The heartbeats can be measured based on the principle of psycho physiological signal which is
used as a stimulus for the virtual reality system. The blood flow in the finger changes every instant.
The sensor shines a small very bright LED through the clip and measures the light that gets
transmitted to the Light Dependent Resistor. The signal firstly gets amplified after which it is inverted
and filtered. In order to calculate the heart rate based on the blood that flows to the fingertip, the
sensor is connected to a LM358 OP AMP for observing the heartbeat pulses. The module gives a
direct output digital signal when connected to a microcontroller. It is compact in size and works at a

The Ever Increasing Urgancy for World Peace
The 20th century can be credited as being one of the most violent times in recorded history. There
were over 98 million war related deaths, which is about six times the combined deaths of both the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Orwell conveys each of these killings as one mind less, one world
less. World peace would be an important goal to work towards. Many wanted to achieve world peace,
however, there were many different visions for how this could be accomplished. Despite the many anti
war actions that occurred during the previous centuries, the twentieth century marks the conception of
an organized approach to global peace. Advocates of world peace believed that with an ever increasing

The process of arbitration allowed the U.S. to extend legal concepts to foreign relations, without

A Interview On The Sleep Disorder Institute ( Sdi )
Maor Mashiach Interview Write Up #1 Mrs. Trombetta BQ: What is sleepwalking? Language Arts 8
1/26/15 Introduction Gary Zammit Doctor 12 years in the Sleep Disorder Institute (SDI) in NYC. 5:30
6:00 January 28, 2015. Telephone interview Gary is a CEO and leading expert in sleep disorders. 1)
Are there any new technologies that can prevent or treat sleepwalking? I am not aware of any new
technologies that are available to prevent or treat sleepwalking. There are some different forms of
sleepwalking. Sleepwalking occurs in very deep sleep early in the night, and some of it is
disorganized. There are other forms of sleepwalking that are more organized and have a purpose. For
example, sleep eating is a disorder when people get out of bed and consume food during their sleep.
But for all of those various forms of sleepwalking, we do not have any new or novel technologies that
prevent or treat sleepwalking? 2) Is there a treatment for this disorder? Well sleepwalking is more
common in kids and as children age and get into their teen years and adulthood, it is more common
that sleepwalking goes away by itself. So it s kind of self limiting for most people but not everyone.
For kids and adults who sleepwalk the best thing to do is to gently guide the sleepwalker back into bed
and that is what takes care of it. Very often, they will stay asleep in bed and that is what takes care of
it. So you don t want to startle a sleepwalker and you don t want to shake

Swamplandia Analysis
This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer who
races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of the
performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each time.
Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her mother as
an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in general, that is
extremely clear. The tense narrative in the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as indestructible.
Russell portrays the narrator s exaltation of her mother through the combination of generated and real
tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience through sublime diction.
Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the audience
and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The excerpt opens
with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The immediate association of
Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly. This shows how the narrator
believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s shoulder blades [are] pinched
back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the portrait of her mother as an
angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The narrator s depiction of the tourists
is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and
unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27
28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she
describes all the audience members as being dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she
believes that they are all the same, and there is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of
their actions, she relays that they shushed and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). This
masculine repetition and repeated use of conjunctions as a polysyndeton even further highlights the

problem of this dual nature. Durkheim also uses The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life (EFRL)
to discuss the religious aspect of the body and soul. Upon reading, it is discovered that as society
evolves, so does this dual nature. In DHN, Durkheim argues that sociology must examine what an
individual consists of because it is a result of the whole society. It is this society ... Show more content

There were also 2 other theories that attempted to explain this dualism of human nature : (1) The
Ontological Explanation by Plato man s inward struggle consists of being good and being unethical.
Plato says that because we are part of both, we are necessarily in conflict with ourselves. (p.4) And a
theory by Kant (2) Sensitivity and Reason we have an ability to think individually or collectively.
Durkheim feels that these 2 theories only re state the problem it does not resolve it. They also assume
that man s nature is above explanation, but we should be able to explain it.
Again, in EFRL, Durkheim shows religiosity from a sociological standpoint in which individual
consciousness is combined with common consciousness. To look at it another way, individuals use
signs and symbols to interpret and/or explain their feelings. If the group all uses the same signs and
symbols, it then becomes the symbol or representation of the group s sacredness. Even if the
individual is no longer part of the collective society, he still holds the sacredness of the signs/symbols
to the same high standard, and he does this by way of festivals, ceremonies, etc.
Also in DHN, Durkheim

Little Skate Application Essay
The Little Skate, Leucoraja erinacea, is a species of skate in the family Rajidae. They re also
somewhat populous in Rhode Island s Narragansett Bay, which surrounds the island I call home. The
skate population has been increasing in numbers since 1970 and is now one of the predominant
animals in bottom fish communities. But marine education hasn t expanded along with the skate
population, and now, more often than not, they are mistaken for stingrays. I see this firsthand at the
Save the Bay Exploration Center and Aquarium where I volunteer kids and their parents alike confuse
them with their larger cousins. Every weekend, I spend several hours observing these beautiful,
underappreciated, often mislabeled creatures. And each time I see a child shrink away from a skate out
of fear that it is a stinging ray, I m given the opportunity to teach someone about the marine ecosystem
in their own town, in hope that they ll want to help protect it. My job as a volunteer aquarium docent
is to instill a passion about preserving our oceans by teaching visitors about what lives inside of them.
My volunteer work at Save the Bay has helped me discover my passion for environmental

One way I do this that comes easy to me, is through community service. Volunteering is my attempt to
make a difference within my community. Being a leader and role model is especially important when
it comes to treating the world around us as the important and beautiful place that it is. That is exactly
why I spend my Saturdays teaching five year olds about skates and hermit crabs. In hope that they will
take what they learn and become environmentally conscience. They ll think about the spider crabs and
seahorses before they litter, or the sea robins before they pollute. This is my own simple way of being

Estee Lauder Case Study
The environmental factors are something that the company cannot control but able to response back to
the change. As time change, more and more women are educated and work in professional fields
which require women to dress and look professional; this increase the demand of skin care products
and make up products. Also, people work under a fast paced environment and this make time become
important, Estée Lauder company would want to think how to response to the change of time.
Customers want to shorten skin care time by applying a 2 minute moisturize instead of a 15 minutes
mask, so Estée Lauder need to innovate their products or create a new product that save customers
time. Currently, Estée Lauder creates a capsule product as replacement of serum, which is easier to
carry and use. Within international trading, the language and culture of other country affect the way
company package Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair and the way they advertised the product. For
example, the culture of China love to use red color when it comes to celebration, and avoid use black

Pokemon At Auschwitz Analysis
Pokemon at Auschwitz Pokemon is game that has been played for many years, but recently the
creators of pokemon have changed the game dramatically. The new Pokemon Go is a game that has
lured many people from all sorts of ages ranging from five to sixty years old. The whole point of the
game is to find all of the pokemon around the world and capture all of them. The problem with this
game is it s disrespecting many famous places in the world because many people are going to these

Effects Of The On Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
During 1720 1750, there was a limited amount of control on the production and selling of gin in
England due to Parliament. This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal and
infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of alcohol
was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition on alcohol
in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments with alcohol
were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal birth defects
called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness experienced during
pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs given during pregnancy,
affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two pediatricians, David Smith and
Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of abnormalities present at birth,
published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In their study, they examined eight children to
determine what caused their developmental impediments. These children were characterized with
growth deficiencies, microcephaly, and impaired cognitive development. All their mothers were
alcoholics, which resulted in Smith and Jones to believe alcohol was causing defects in the offspring
[2]. Many discoveries have been made since 1973 that involve fetal exposure to alcohol,

Transcendentalism And Its Impact On Society
He taught himself to read and write by forming letters in charcoal on the kitchen floorboards (Brown).
He strove to teach himself so that he could be a teacher to others as his revolutionary ideas on
education changed how we look at education even today. He began to dive more and more into the
world of Transcendentalism. He was a husband a father and a teacher who created a wave through
America that still has rippling effects today. Much more came out of this movement including his
effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This
man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental
beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as
he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and
Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different
activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter.
Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their
effectiveness. He understood that what he was doing was an attempt to better society, and he followed
the Transcendental ideal of non conformity. The driving force of Transcendentalism was in fact the
people that felt these ideals were best for society. Men like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David
Thoreau, Amos

Bokononism In Cat s Cradle
Over the summer, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to read the novel Cat s Cradle by Kurt
Vonnegut. It was an amazing novel. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end and felt like I was part
of the plot. Cat s Cradle starts out as a man s journey to write a story over the atomic bomb, but a
thing called ice nine quickly changes the scenario. Throughout most of the story, the reader is getting
introduced more and more to the religion known as Bokononism, which is the religion most people on
the island of San Lorenzo believe in. The religion was founded by a man named Bokonon. He helped
make San Lorenzo the way it is now. Bokonon is a mysterious man and is rarely seen by the people.
Up until the end of the story, he is continually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One major example of this is related to the religion Bokononism. As I stated earlier, most of the
people on the island of San Lorenzo follow Bokononism. Even the President of the country believes in
the religion. Bokonon is a household name on the island. Ironically, it is illegal to be a Bokononist. If
you are caught practicing the religion, you will be put to death. Also, Bokonon is a fugitive and
authorities are searching for him constantly. Isn t that ironic? Another ironic thing is when the
President was about to die. He was in failing health and only had a few hours left. He told the narrator,
who was going to be the next President of San Lorenzo, to catch and kill Bokonon. Then, the doctor
called in a Christian to say his last rites. As soon as the Christian walked into the room, Papa (the
President) said I am a member of the Bokononist faith. Get out you stinking Christian. Even though
Papa has made Bokonon a fugitive and Bokononism illegal, he still follows the religion that a fugitive
created. I think the irony in the story is an example of how the human race can do very stupid things.
Why is Bokonon a fugitive if many of the people praise him for the religion he founded? The reason is
because an illegal religion sounded more interesting than a legal one, and that is why many people are
Bokononists and why the religion is

quest for that great pair of jeans because the denim industry keeps evolving and growing
(WGSN.com). This is an example of the same situation that Don and Doris had to undergo and now
42 years later it s still an issue. After all these years now they are the leading international specialty
retailer with five different brands. Behind the 3000 stores and 5 different brands come 134,000
employees. That is four times the population of Lichtenstein which is a small country in the Swiss
Alps. Such a large work force dedicated to the making of apparel brands really stands out in the
fashion industry and with this many designers, managers, sales associates, and other leading roles Gap
Inc. stands to make a difference in the way people dress. They are so forward in their attempt to
change the way of fashion that they have opened up new stores in new countries such as Italy, China,
and Australia, thus bringing once a pair of jeans to a multitude of different apparel items. These new
countries that have Gap Inc. stores popping up shows Gap Inc. s progressive movement by saying that
190 store openings worldwide are planned, with about 10 in China, including Shanghai, Beijing and
Hong Kong, and another 10 in Italy, including one in Rome. Gap plans to double the number of
franchise stores to 400 by 2015. (WDD.com).

  • 3. Materialism During The Romantic Poem Era Materialism, toxic to our happiness, yet often ignored. Materialism was a pressing social issue during the industrial revolution and the Romantic Poem Era. It was written about by many well known Romantic poets of the time including; Blake, Shelley, Coleridge and Wordsworth. Despite the extensive development of the world from the times of Romantic Poets to our modern day society, materialisation is still present. This issue has it s claws sunk into our modern world, with contemporary artists Madonna, Pink Floyd and AC DC writing about their outlooks on the subject. Materialism demonstrated by poets during the Romantic Era is still relevant in modern society and contemporary artist s lyrics. The context in which these lyrics and poem were written depended on the world around the authors. William Wordsworth, was a Romantic Era poet, of spiritual and epistemological speculation... concerned with the human relationship to nature 5. Wordsworth was living in the midst of the industrial revolution, where people felt they had to move forward with the technology of the time. They then became wrapped in consumerism and materialism, whilst moving away from nature. The Romantics weren t very enthusiastic about these changes they were especially concerned about people moving away from nature 8. • 6. The Greenhouse Effect On The World Introduction Most people around the world do not fully understand the meaning of the greenhouse effect, or the affects the greenhouse effect has on the world. In fact, many believe that the greenhouse effect is simply contributes to global warming, and that it has no real value to the earth. But what many are not aware of it that the greenhouse effect is the planet s natural way of obtaining a specific temperature in which living organisms can survive. Many people are not aware of the consequences that our way of life has on the planet, and soon, with the help of global warming, we will all understand. Greenhouse gasses There are three main greenhouse gases that play a large role in keeping our planet at a stable temperature; carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Other gases produced are troposheric ozone, CFC 12, HCFC 22, and sulfur hexafluoride. The greenhouse effect used to have no legitimate harm on earth, but, humans have been the reason for the increase in these greenhouse gases, therefore creating what we know today as; global warming. Without these greenhouse gases, the earth would be so incredibly cold that no living entity could survive. Importance of the Greenhouse Effect Because the greenhouse effect is usually only discussed in the context of global warming, this natural process is neglected to be appreciated for its vital role in the planet. • 10. Sample Extraction Technique Is Necessary For Various Other... Mel cepstral feature extraction technique is required in some or the other form in most of the latest speech and speaker recognition system. Here, first samples of speech are splitted into overlapping frames. Generally the length of frame is 25 ms and frame rate is 10 ms. Each and every frames are refined by pre emphasis filter which amplifies higher frequencies. Next is to apply windowing so that Fourier spectrum for each windowing frame is achieved here Hamming window is used. To obtain vector of log energy, Mel spaced bank of filter is used which varies from 20 to 40 depending upon the requirement of particular application. The output of which is converted to give cepstral coefficients using DCT. Initially for computing the feature vector, 12 coefficients are obtained along with one energy make its 13 cepstral coefficient. The extended MFCC consist of triple differentiation. 1St order differentiation is known as Delta coefficient is denoted by _D which has 13 delta cepstral coefficients. 2Nd order differentiation is known as Acceleration coefficient is denoted by _A having 13 delta delta coefficients. 3Rd order differentiation is known as Third order (Triple delta) coefficient is denoted by _T which again has 13 triple delta coefficients. Its is said that standard MFCC is given by 39 feature vector and extended is given by 52 standard vector [1]. An Integrated Signal Conditioning Block For Electrocardiogram The AD8232 is an integrated signal conditioning block for Electrocardiogram, which is designed for extraction, amplification and filtering of small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, created by motion or remote electrode placement. The AD8232 has essential pins like shutdown pin, leadoff+, leadoff , analog output, 3.3v, gnd to operate with the Arduino Mega 2560. There also exist RA(Right Arm),LA(Left Arm), RL(right leg) pins to attach to the custom sensor of human body . It has an led indicator which pulsates with the rhythm of a heartbeat .2.2.6 Heartbeat Sensor The Heartbeat sensor works on the principle of photoplethysmography which is a method of not invading the body for measuring heartbeat. It provides a simple way to obtain the function of the heart. The heartbeats can be measured based on the principle of psycho physiological signal which is used as a stimulus for the virtual reality system. The blood flow in the finger changes every instant. The sensor shines a small very bright LED through the clip and measures the light that gets transmitted to the Light Dependent Resistor. The signal firstly gets amplified after which it is inverted and filtered. In order to calculate the heart rate based on the blood that flows to the fingertip, the sensor is connected to a LM358 OP AMP for observing the heartbeat pulses. The module gives a direct output digital signal when connected to a microcontroller. It is compact in size and works at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were over 98 million war related deaths, which is about six times the combined deaths of both the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Orwell conveys each of these killings as one mind less, one world less. World peace would be an important goal to work towards. Many wanted to achieve world peace, however, there were many different visions for how this could be accomplished. Focusing on the first treaty, arbitration was a natural for U.S. advocates of peace, dating back to the Jay Treaty (1794). The process of arbitration allowed the U.S. to extend legal concepts to foreign relations, without compromising U.S. freedom of action. One of the earliest arms control conferences was the Washington Disarmament Conference, organized by Charles Evans Hughs who sought the promotion of peace via disarmament and outlawry of war. With the U.S. being a world power, though arbitration, the U.S. could levy this power with conflicting parties in hope of peace. During this time, reduction of armament was an integral part of the Republicans diplomatic strategy.5 During the Washington Conference, Hughes pulled off a diplomatic tour de force, one of the first major international agreement on arms reduction that has yet to be negotiated.6 After months of negotiations, five countries agree to limit their number of battleships, establishing a 5:3:3 ratio in battleship tonnage to the United States and a reduction in ... Language Arts 8 1/26/15 Introduction Gary Zammit Doctor 12 years in the Sleep Disorder Institute (SDI) in NYC. 5:30 6:00 January 28, 2015. Telephone interview Gary is a CEO and leading expert in sleep disorders. 1) Are there any new technologies that can prevent or treat sleepwalking? I am not aware of any new technologies that are available to prevent or treat sleepwalking. There are some different forms of sleepwalking. Sleepwalking occurs in very deep sleep early in the night, and some of it is disorganized. There are other forms of sleepwalking that are more organized and have a purpose. For example, sleep eating is a disorder when people get out of bed and consume food during their sleep. But for all of those various forms of sleepwalking, we do not have any new or novel technologies that prevent or treat sleepwalking? 2) Is there a treatment for this disorder? Well sleepwalking is more common in kids and as children age and get into their teen years and adulthood, it is more common that sleepwalking goes away by itself. So it s kind of self limiting for most people but not everyone. For kids and adults who sleepwalk the best thing to do is to gently guide the sleepwalker back into bed and that is what takes care of it. Very often, they will stay asleep in bed and that is what takes care of it. So you don t want to startle a sleepwalker and you don t want to shake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Swamplandia Analysis This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer who races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of the performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each time. Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her mother as an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in general, that is extremely clear. The tense narrative in the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as indestructible. Russell portrays the narrator s exaltation of her mother through the combination of generated and real tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience through sublime diction. Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the audience and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The excerpt opens with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The immediate association of Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly. This shows how the narrator believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s shoulder blades [are] pinched back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the portrait of her mother as an angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The narrator s depiction of the tourists is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27 28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she describes all the audience members as being dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she believes that they are all the same, and there is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of their actions, she relays that they shushed and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). Dualism of Human Nature Essay The Dualism of Human Nature and Its Social Conditions Emile Durkheim According to Durkheim s work The Dualism of Human Nature and Its Social Conditions (DHN), a man has a dual nature which is made up of the body (individual) and the soul (social). He sheds light on this by citing post Durkheim theories which he does not agree with and which do not solve the problem of this dual nature. Durkheim also uses The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life (EFRL) to discuss the religious aspect of the body and soul. Upon reading, it is discovered that as society evolves, so does this dual nature. In DHN, Durkheim argues that sociology must examine what an individual consists of because it is a result of the whole society. It is this society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also 2 other theories that attempted to explain this dualism of human nature : (1) The Ontological Explanation by Plato man s inward struggle consists of being good and being unethical. Plato says that because we are part of both, we are necessarily in conflict with ourselves. (p.4) And a theory by Kant (2) Sensitivity and Reason we have an ability to think individually or collectively. Durkheim feels that these 2 theories only re state the problem it does not resolve it. They also assume that man s nature is above explanation, but we should be able to explain it. Again, in EFRL, Durkheim shows religiosity from a sociological standpoint in which individual consciousness is combined with common consciousness. To look at it another way, individuals use signs and symbols to interpret and/or explain their feelings. If the group all uses the same signs and symbols, it then becomes the symbol or representation of the group s sacredness. Even if the individual is no longer part of the collective society, he still holds the sacredness of the signs/symbols to the same high standard, and he does this by way of festivals, ceremonies, etc. Also in DHN, Durkheim ... This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal and infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of alcohol was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition on alcohol in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments with alcohol were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal birth defects called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness experienced during pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs given during pregnancy, affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two pediatricians, David Smith and Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of abnormalities present at birth, published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In their study, they examined eight children to determine what caused their developmental impediments. These children were characterized with growth deficiencies, microcephaly, and impaired cognitive development. All their mothers were alcoholics, which resulted in Smith and Jones to believe alcohol was causing defects in the offspring [2]. Much more came out of this movement including his effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter. Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their effectiveness.
