Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research
Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand?
By Jihad Mohd Erfino
Introduction:
Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the world. It questions
the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and even for medical research purposes.
Although it happens in most of the world (including New Zealand) today, many question whether it
should go on. Animal testing is generally the use of animals for different purposes in lab conditions.
Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since the 2nd century
BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing Wikipedia). He was the first one to
have made experiments on live animals. The first animal testing experiments was to find out how our
bodies work. For example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals was discovered in the 12th
century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in the 17th century by William
Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human medical advances. It has helped
developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio which has almost been eradicated. It has also have
helped humans to have a better understanding of our bodily mechanisms, function and several
diseases. Some diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated better due to animal testing
discoveries.

Experimental Research And Experimental Methods
Experimental
To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust
and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict the
effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady
hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a more
reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure. Reliability is
necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote locations where it is
not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across the turbine blade creates
moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic
inflow.
The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on a
horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the
boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be
obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes. By
performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate whether
single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A recent article
titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the experiment with
valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of turbulent loads and fatigue
life along with the results of the experiment.
Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize
alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy
sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the
energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. Worldwide ocean power
capacity is approximately 6 Megawatts and over the next few years it is projected to increase to 35
Megawatts3. For this reason

What Caused The Six Day War
The Six Day War was a war that took place on June 5 10 in 1967. The war resulted in the Israelis
capturing 5 locations. This was thought to be impossible as the chances of them doing so was very
small, almost nothing. The victory for Israel took everyone for surprise, including the Israelis. It
seemed as if though it was a miracle. The war all comes down to the Israelis redirecting the water flow
from the Jordan River to the Negev Desert. The Arabs clearly didn t like it. This resulted in bombings
from Israel to Syria after the the Arabs began threatening and implementing their policy of diverting
the water from Israel. Things began to get heated with Israel and their neighbors. Most of the tense
relations were coming from Golan Heights and

Contribute to Raising Awareness of Health Issues
1.1 Analyse reasons why it may be necessary to raise awareness of health issues.
To protect the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone I care for. By ensuring that I identify health
issues early I am able to inform the relevant people quickly and that will hopefully prevent the health
issues getting worse, meaning that their health, safety, wellbeing and quality of life is improved and
maintained as much as possible. It is also important to raise awareness to comply with company
policies and legislation.
1.2 Compare the roles of agencies and others who may be involved in raising awareness of health
issues.
There are lots of agencies involved, doctors, nurses, district nurses, social services and any other
agency, carer or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.3 Review with others the demand for and interest in raising awareness of a particular health issue.
At regular resident meeting we discuss a range of topics and the residents say what they want in the
way of activates, dinner and other things. During this discussion we may talk about health issues and
possible ways of dealing with them. Also I have general talks with management and colleagues and
we discuss our feeling regarding raising awareness or if we may need extra training in certain areas.
3.1 Contribute to agreeing roles and responsibilities within a team planning awareness raising
activities/3.2 Work with the team to plan a set of activities to raise awareness about a health issue.
When carrying out a awareness raising activities me and my colleagues would discuss what points we
need to cover and each would carry out major research, when we are doing the activity one person
would be the main talker and others would assist and interrupt where necessary. When anyone
identifies a health issue it is their responsibility to report it and document it where necessary. When an
activity has taken part everyone whom has been involved in that activity would document it in the
individuals care plan always ensuring that they do so in neat writing, signing and dating everything
and completing with facts only.

Why Was The Titanic Unsinkable
Titanic
Even though Titanic was unsinkable , the lives of 1,500 people were lost on April 15th, 1912, from
many preventable mistakes. Titanic was supposed to be an amazingly built ship that was unsinkable ,
but what they didn t know was that Titanic was unsinkable in the case of it colliding with other ships,
not an iceberg. If the ships construction was a little bit more put together, the ice patrol had better
communication, and the lifeboats would have come back, Titanic wouldn t lay 12,500 feet in the
twenty eight degrees fahrenheit water below the coast of Newfoundland.
Titanic was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast and was made out to be unsinkable.
One of the architects, Thomas Andrews left on Titanic as the ship left England, and died from the ...

Twenty two lifeboats wouldn t even save half of the people that were on Titanic. There were more
than 700 passengers in the Third Class and some had paid as little as $20 to aboard Titanic. Originally
Titanic was supposed to have thirty two lifeboats, but because the ship was unsinkable and the deck
was too cluttered with thirty two, they reduced the number to only twenty lifeboats. Enough to carry
1,178 people, leaving 1,062 people left behind. Only women and children were allowed to board the
lifeboats first, once there were no women or children nearby, men were allowed to board. Each
lifeboat was able to carry sixty five people, some left with as little as twenty eight. The reason for the
lifeboat on being filled not even halfway to its full capacity was because A little more than an hour
after contact with the iceberg, a largely disorganized and haphazard evacuation began with the
lowering of the first lifeboat. ( Titanic ). The lifeboats that were underfilled never came back for the
people in the below freezing water simply for the fear of getting capsized. This was another reason
there were only 705

1. Sales forecast (at $ 30 retail price with the assumption of $15 whole sale price)
a. 400,000 copies 40% chance;
b. 1,000,000 copies 30% chance;
c. 100,000 copies 30% chance; 2. Flat deal with Senator Murphy

[ii] Senator Murphy don t deliver the manuscript (with a chance of 20%)
The costs for B C associated with this probable outcome are the advance payment paid for the Senator
upon signing agreement, i.e. $500,000 and the incremental cost of $50,000. [iii] B C decides to kill the
book (with a chance of 75%)
Provided that Murphy delivers the book, $250,000 for editorial services plus all the costs associated
with the first outcome will be the cost in line with this outcome. [iv] B C publishes the book (with a
chance of 25%)
Again assuming that Murphy delivers a completed manuscript the costs associated with this outcome
in addition to the cost in the first outcome will be;
$100,000 for editorial service
$500,000 for publicity
$50,000 for preparing camera ready proofs
Printing cost of $4 per copy
$0.25 per copy for distribution costs and
Incremental cost of 5% of wholesale price, i.e. $0.75 per copy
Therefore the total cost associated with this outcome is a fixed cost of $650,000 for editorial,
publicity, and camera proofs and a variable cost of $5 per copy for incremental, distribution and
printing costs.
Expected revenue (Possible weighted revenue)
Before we calculate the expected revenue we must compute the weighted (expected) sales projection
which is the summation of all the sales projection multiplied by the probable percentages attached to it
respectively.

Understanding The Neurological Complexity Of The Human Brain
In order to better understand the neurological complexity of the human brain, it is reasonable to first
compare it to a similar organ, and according to Professor David Anderson, that is a fruit fly s brain. As
a neurological researcher at the Caltech David Anderson Lab, Professor Anderson claims that the
human brain is much more complex than thought, but with the help of fruit fly experimentation,
understanding the human brain is made simple. As guest speaker at the TED Conference, Anderson
informs his audience of a common misconception with the human brain, a misconception he intends to
disprove by using evidence from his fruit fly experimentations. David Anderson explains how fruit fly
research is the missing link that will help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opening up his lecture, Professor Anderson immediately harnessed the crowds curiosity through his
questions requiring crowd participation. He first asked the crowd to raise their hand if they had any
family history of mental illnesses. Most of the attending listeners responded to his inquiry with their
hands raised high, signaling Anderson to ask his next question. Secondly, Anderson asked if anyone
could agree that fruit fly research would help further the understanding of mental illnesses and if so,
they should keep their hand raised. Naturally, in response to his second question, the audiences hands
went back down. The humorous contrast in the crowds response resulted in laughter within the
audience, which allowed Anderson to smoothly transition to his next point. He continued to use
rhetorical questioning throughout his speech as seen when he asked, Can an organism like this teach
us anything about emotion like states? Do these organisms even have emotion like states or are they
just little digital robots? (00:04:55). Comparing living fruit flies to inanimate robots is silly and not
realistic; this obvious answer made clear to his listeners that there is a high chance that fruit fly
research could benefit the understanding of the human mind. In continuation, Anderson used
comparison and contrast to help explain his research and support his claim. Anderson first compared

Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall
Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall
Leigh s statement that The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must
never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were
neighbours seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so present
in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by
any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character
acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of impenetrable
barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of theatre and
performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier with a variety
of means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is backed up by Livy s claim that in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in their
own plays and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of playing the poet is vaguely
autobiographical in nature as Plautus who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of
entertaining the audience now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role, in
order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events that
occur outside the play such as the nature of Plautus true identity is never stated outright in the play,
but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such knowledge. In the
context of Leigh s garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the neighbour winking over
the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually mentioning

Brand Identity And Marketing Messages
Brand Identity and Marketing Messages
Before launching a product or marketing a message, many ideas for brand identity, such as artistic
logos and clever jingles to draw in the consumer and become memorable, stay on the presentation
board in the marketing executive s office. For the wildly successful product marketing that basks in a
near cult following, such as Coke, Apple, or McDonalds, there are the utter failures such as the
Gremlin, the Susan B. Anthony dollar, and numerous spin offs of successful television shows.
Therefore, when OfficeMax Inc. launched Elf Yourself , an interactive holiday e card on its website in
2006, its success took everyone by surprise. Thacker, an OfficeMax marketing and advertising
executive admitted, When you think of holiday shopping, you don t think office supplies (Colorado
State University Global Campus, 2014).The following discussion focuses on the objectives, timely
launch, and how OfficeMax reached their intended target with the surprise hit of the 2006 holiday
season. This popular marketing campaign is a perfect example of everything going right at precisely
the perfect time.
Campaign Objectives and Timeline for Completion
Behind any retail campaign, no matter the product niche, is to bring consumer interest to the product
or service, thus increasing sales. In the Elf Yourself campaign, OfficeMax used a unique form of
marketing by inserting their brand into an Elf e card that had no direct association with its products.

What Was The Cause Of The First World War Essay
The flapping of wings of a butterfly can cause tornadoes. Well, this certainly proved true in the early
part of the 20th century. A single event was to have catastrophic consequences a single bullet fired in
the balmy summer of 1914 led to the deaths of millions and devastation of a scale never before seen.
The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife was critical in setting off the chain of
events that led to the First World War. Not only was it a bad day for the Archduke and his family, but
also a bad day for Europe. The First World War began just a shade more than a hundred years ago.
This war remains one of the most defining conflicts of modern time and changed not only Europe, but
the entire world in many ways. Franz Ferdinand (18 December 1863 28 June 1914) was an Archduke
of Austria Este, Austria Hungry and Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia. He was the heir ... Show

Though the assassination is considered as an immediate cause of the war, several other factors were
also responsible for the war. These include include political, territorial and economic conflicts,
militarism, imperialism, the growth of nationalism, a complex web of alliances and the power vacuum
created by the decline of the Ottoman Empire. Throughout the 19th and early 20th century the
Ottoman Empire had lost land in the Balkans to the peoples living there. The great powers, especially
Russia and Austria were interested in extending their influence in the region, leading to poor relations
between them. At the same time, Slav nationalism was growing, especially in Serbia. Russia
encouraged Slav nationalism while Austria worried that this nationalism could undermine her empire.
Russia supported Serbia which was very bitter at the annexation of Bosnia by Austria and saw herself

Benefits And Side Effects Of Lithium
disorder is treated, each method working for some, but not for others; each method also has its
benefits and side effects. Doctors tried for years to find the treatment for this disorder, but were
unsuccessful until the discovery of Lithium. Prior to the discovery of Lithium, people with disorders
did not have a way to deal with their disease because earlier forms of treatment, such as
psychotherapy, ECT, and antidepressant did not work and sometimes the drugs even triggered an
episode. Lithium was a known substance found in simple mineral salts, but it was not until 1949 when
John cade was doing an experiment on rats that he found how useful lithium was in calming the
effects the disorder (Comer 2013). The use of Lithium was approved by the FDA in 1970 and was
shown to improve the symptoms of more than 60% of manic patients and also help prevent the
symptoms from ever developing. The amount of lithium dosage given to patients is a critical process
because too little of the medicine can have little effect, but too much can result in lithium intoxication
which can lead to nausea, vomiting, sluggishness, tremors, dizziness, kidney dysfunction and can
possible result in death. Patients should also have their doctors check the lithium level in their blood to
avoid intoxication. Despite the effectiveness of this drug, it has some side effects. Lithium can cause

Virtual Schooling Is A Viable Entity For Educating Students
Virtual Schooling is a viable entity for educating students ranging from kindergarten to graduate
school. The benefits of virtual schooling are continuously being realized as additional avenues for
educating students. Additionally, having virtual schooling as a choice, rather than a requirement for all
classes, enables educational institutions to maintain and, in some cases, increase their retention and
graduation rates. Recent trends in school reporting data supporting the benefits of virtual schooling
prove that educating students through distance learning can provide significant benefits, including to
those students that learn in a traditional setting. In Michigan, online learning is increasing at an
incredible rate. In 2015, over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, online learning is used in the K 12 setting to provide courses the local school is unable to offer,
to benefit student scheduling, and to help learners with specific needs, including accelerated learners
as well as those who don t thrive in traditional classes. As virtual schooling increases and access to
technology grows, the areas of need that it addresses continue to expand.. There are several key steps
that must be addressed in order for successful virtual schooling to take place: Be realistic about
technology. Outdated computer labs are not going to support virtual schooling. Technology has to be
up to date in order to support the online learner, including computers and internet service. Programs
will not be able to run on computers with outdated browsers. Even if you have to bring in two to four
updated computers, that will at least give you a start. Prepare the students. Offer an orientation on
online learning skills. Virtual schooling requires a different type of skill set than traditional
classrooms. This includes comfort with the needed technology as well as soft skills such as time
management, independence, and self motivation. Students who lack or have never been introduced to
this skill set will not be successful in an online learning platform. Provide opportunities for
collaboration. Just because students are learning online doesn t mean they have to miss out on class
discussion and collaboration with peers. Courses must be

Forecasting A Hurricane Essay
When we hear about hurricanes on the news or how one might be closing in on where we live we
mostly think of how we are going to protect our self. However, there is one thing that I think most
people do not stop and ponder, which is how does a hurricane even get forecast? From the direction it
is going to be headed, to how it is categorized. The group that preforms all forecasting for tropical
cyclone activity is the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and they cover the Atlantic and Eastern
Pacific basins throughout North America. To start it begins with visual observations of the hurricane
using reconnaissance airplanes, satellites, ships, buoys, radars, and an assortment of land based
equipment. Likewise, most of the storm s projected path and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another tool that has recently been in use to monitor hurricanes is the NASA Global Hawk, which is
an experimental unmanned aircraft that is used to test possible operational capabilities within a
hurricane. Likewise, once a hurricane is projected to become a threat to land, the hurricane is
immediately monitored by the U.S. Air Force, and NOAA hurricane aircraft, and land stations.
One of the biggest assets that are in use is the Chief, Aerial Reconnaissance Coordination, All
Hurricanes (CARCAH) which organizes tropical cyclone scouting flights. These flights gather data
about the storm and it is sent back to the ground team of CARCAH and thoroughly checked for any
errors, before being given to the NHC and then released to the public. Another asset that is used is the
Automated Surface Observations Stations (ASOSs) and instrumented weather balloons (radiosondes)
which can deliver supplementary measurements as needed.
Overall, a lot of information goes into giving hurricane forecasts to make sure that people that might
be effected are told ahead of time so that if an evacuation is needed it can be done in the needed time

The French Revolution Vs. The American Revolution
The French vs. the American Revolution The French Revolution and The American Revolution are
similar in many that people call them the Twin Wars. We will explore how they are similar by talking
about the role that women played and the documents that emerged from each war. We will also
explore how they are different by talking about the causes for the wars and the goals for each.
Although the causes might seem similar in detail they are actually different. The American Revolution
was started because of the problems with Britain and their incessant need to keep taxing the colonies
even though they broke away. The colonist didn t go to war over the taxes themselves. They were

In the French Revolution the women played a part in a lot of the war,(Women and the Revolution), but
almost every time they were involved it ended with controversy such as the time the women march on
the palace of Versailles. The women were upset that they didn t have bread to feed their families. On
October 4, 1789 the women march toward Versailles and they demanded to see the baker, his wife and
their son. The King promised to meet some of the ladies and give them all the bread in the palace.
Before that happened The National guard came to take the king back to France for fear of his safety.
The Queen who was Marie Antoinette barely escaped. The king compromised and said he would
speak to the women on the balcony of the palace. He said My friends, I will return to Paris with my
wife and children. This was the last time that the king would see Versailles (Women s March). In the
American Revolution women took an active role in the war. Most women in this time were wives and
daughters of soldiers. The women who had a constant presence in the camps were known as camp

Analysis Of Augustus Of Primaporta
The sculpture i used for my for analysis is Augustus of primaporta the artist is unknown but thought to
have been greek, date is early 1st century and medium is marble. The subject in the sculpture is
Augustus Caesar (or Gaius octavian) the grandnephew of Julius caesar and the ruler of rome until his
death at age 75 76, In the sculpture we see augustus in his prime, his depicted in the standard pose of a
roman speaker and detailed in all of his accomplishments and family ties. I think what the artist was
trying to do was show his love and appreciation for his ruler, his trying to send out a message of how
amazing and accomplished augustus is.

We see a lot of imagery done in very bold and clean lines of his victory against the parthians being
played out across his chest armor in great detail. Along with symbolic implications, for instance the
banner being waved above represent the peace signified has cosmic implications ( pg. 172) . As i
mentioned before the lines and the life size of the sculpture are done in a way to give augustus almost
human mannerisms you see the veins in his arms and feet, the adam s apple in his throat and well
defined muscles in his calves. and , as i alluded to in the above paragraphs his body looks to be in mid
motion and you could almost see him addressing his subjects, the sculpture captures every overlapping
line in his toga so it ll look wrinkled while draping across his forearm, his plate armor is even detailed
enough where you see an outline of his pecs and abs, and his facial features are carefully constructed
to show off his crooked nose, chiseled chin and big ears, the eyes however are more of an outline than
an actual detailing which i think were very common for most sculptures back then.
The Augustus of primaporta has a smooth quality to it as if it s a almost perfect form of augustus it
was modeled to capture him in his prime or his peak, so i feel that the artist wanted the sculpture to
show a dreamy and undamaged version that would live on even when they pass or augustus got older.
It was originally made with white marble before it was copied with bronze and due to time as dulled
but not enough to throw the sculpture off in fact it adds to the class of it which i think was done

Comparing Hamlet And Gladiator
Since the beginning of time, humans have attempted to correct an unjust behavior through the act of
seeking revenge. But does seeking revenge really correct the wrongs? Mahatma Gandhi once
famously said, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves . Seeking revenge maybe
useful to punish the offender but it will never calm the inner anger. The works of Hamlet, written by
William Shakespeare and Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, show that Hamlet and Maximus end up
digging their own graves as they strive to get revenge for the wrongdoings that were done to them.

However, in Hamlet, Hamlet delays his actions and is not able to act on his intentions, while on the
other hand in Gladiator, Maximus is much more determined to have revenge. Hamlet and Maximus
both feel the responsibility to take revenge in order to restore justice or the chain of being. In response
to the internal turmoil that Hamlet is experiencing he questions his existence and states, To be, or not
to be: that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous
fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them (3.1.57 61). In this
particular instance, Hamlet displays his hesitation towards the idea of having revenge. He is unable to
make up his mind as he tries to rationalize his purpose. On the other hand, in Gladiator, Maximus is a
much more straightforward thinker. He clearly states his purpose of revenge when he meets

Rosalind Franklin In Photograph 51
Nicole Kidman, who plays pioneering British scientist Rosalind Franklin in the play Photograph 51,
says her role is her way of acknowledging her father s work, who passed away last year. Franklin was
the only woman involved in the discovery of DNA s double helix in 1953, but her work was only
recognized after her death, according to BBC. Kidman said that the final preview of the play, which is
Sept 12, happens to be the death anniversary of her father, Dr Antony Kidman. This is my way of

Political Differences Between Eastern And Western Europe
Before period 3 came the fall of many great empires across the world. Han China and Gupta India
were falling to invaders and revolts. However, one of the most important downfalls of an empire in the
classical period was the fall of the Roman Empire. Due to many contributing factors, Rome broke
apart towards the end of period 2 and changed the entirety of Europe and the Middle East. This fall
more importantly increased the divide between Eastern and Western Europe. After the fall of Rome,
the administrations of Western and Eastern Europe showed more drastic differences in both
centralization and religion. However, even with this major differences they still shared the same
ambitions and values. One of the primary differences between Eastern and Western Europe in period 3
is their respective governments or more specifically the centralization of them. The major nation in the
East was the Byzantines. They are known for being extremely centralized and having a very large
bureaucracy. While on the other hand, Western Europe was split into many smaller areas and states,
each having very loose organization. The paramount example of a noncentralized Europe is the
governing system. This system was feudalism, a political system that spreads power and control
amongst lords and their vassals. While the king has a lot of power, feudalism does not allow for a
heavily centralized government. With the Byzantines it is almost the opposite. Most of the power was
given to the emperor. The

minorities to distrust the dominant group. In these situations, MCPs were not the original cause of this

Disadvantages Of Augmented Reality
Computer graphics (CG) is a subfield of computer science which digitally creating, manipulating, and
synthesizing the visual content that is displayed on a computer and video screen. It was first created as
a visualization tool for scientist and engineers in the 1950s and the first graphic images an
Oscilloscope that generated by an analog machine was created by Ben Laposky in the year 1950.
There are two different methods to create a digital image on a screen raster and vector graphics. Raster
graphics are the most common and are best used for non line art images such as digital photos. This
kind of graphics is bitmap graphics and so raster images are a pixel image. Whereas, vector graphics

2.2.3 Advantages and Disadvantages of Augmented Reality Augmented reality will provide a number
of advantages. In field education, AR can increase the engagement of students in learning by
augmenting the historical and cultural locations because they will absorb the information easily. In the
field of tourism, location tracking using MAR will display the virtual information and virtual building

some technical and travel information. It also increases the growth of smartphone market as well as
the perceived value of products and brands. Drawbacks of augmented reality include the issue of
privacy, risk of real physical safety, and unauthorized augmented advertising that discussed in the

Morality In The Lion King
The Lion King: Simba s Journey Towards Sanity and Morality
Walt Disney s The Lion King opens with a magnificent introduction to the forthcoming King of the
Pride Lands, providing the audience with an impression of the intriguing journey that is on the verge
of unfolding. As the story progresses, it becomes evident that Simba is in the midst of a quest. Such
evidence is portrayed in the film through his possession of heroic qualities, such as courage, love, and
perseverance. In addition, the process of undergoing trials, receiving aid, fighting enemies, and
succeeding at attaining the treasure sought, contributes towards sanity and morality within him (Myth
of a Quest: an Archetype). Therefore, in the film The Lion King, Simba s journey would be considered
a quest for sanity and morality since throughout the film the main character deals with a darker evil
side, comes to terms with some kind of personal integration and reaches a self understanding.
In the beginning of the narrative, a portrayal of various characters and their relationships with Simba
demonstrates their contribution towards Simba s ability to comprehend the existence of a darker, evil
side. First, the jealousy emanated by the antagonist, Scar, towards the position that Mufasa upholds in
the kingdom, provides an insight to the evil Simba faces. Consequently, as a young child, Simba
understands the difference between good and evil through the juxtaposition manifested in the
behaviour of both his father and

Power In A Tale Of Two Cities
Power is the Silent Assassin Charles Dickens, a prosperous author by the age of twenty five, was born
in Portsmouth, England, on February 7, 1812. A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens in
1859, is considered to be one of the darkest of the major books that he wrote. The novel is considered
dark because its takes place in England and France before and throughout the French Revolution. The
French Revolution was a ten year revolt of the peasants against the nobles that resulted in the deaths
of tens of thousands of people. In Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, imagery is used to change the reader s

The peasants have changed the laws since the French Revolution started, which is very hypocritical
considering one of the reasons for the war was to fight for justice against the nobles unjust court
system, and now they are doing the exact same thing to the nobles, even the innocent ones, for
revenge. An officer immediately jails Charles Darnay, an honorable man, into solitary confinement in
a prison named La Force because he is accused of being an emigrant. When the officer asserts,
Without doubt. You are consigned, Evremonde, to the prison of La Force (195), Darnay exclaims,
Under what law, and for what offence? showing the unexpectedness of his imprisonment. In this
novel, emigrants are nobles who have fled from their homes, and though Darnay denounced his family
name years before, he belongs to the Evremonde family, and therefore, must die. During the French
Revolution, the peasants commonly made vulgar jokes about the Guillotine, which was a new weapon
used to behead its victims. They laughed about the weapon and how they killed many people with it,
saying, it was the best cure for headache (212). We can conclude the reader no longer supports the
peasants nor wants the French Revolution to occur due to their inhumane behavior during the

Introduction To Identity The Unknow Acid Solution
The purpose of this experiment is to identity the unknow acid solution through determining the Ka
value of the reaction experimentally. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1,
with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan.
Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher
Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in
test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1.
So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Dichloroacetic acid is the second
strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is dichloroacetic acid.

strong acid strong base titration. In a weak acid and strong base titration, the equivalence point would
be above 7 due to the reaction occur between the conjugated base and water. This often makes the pH
value detectable by Phenolphthalein. In a strong acid and strong base titration where the equivalence
point is 7, the spike of pH around equivalence point is huge and all indicators at this range change

The article The National Conversation in the Wake of Littleton is Missing the Mark By Jackson Kats

society, as well as other students. There is a focus on masculinity, along with behavior and how that
behavior is being influenced by the environment. The article focuses on factors such as peer exclusion,
the prevalence of violence in the media and most importantly, violence in relation to gender. .
In relation to gender, masculinity plays a crucial role in shaping ego and self esteem. While answering

This may alter children to act violently in order to keep up with the norms they are being presented by
influential, popular celebrities.
While studying a topic which has a cause and effect relationship to societal norms, we can apply two
major theories to help understand the influences shaping our perceptions and mental processes; the
first being conflict theory. Conflict theory focuses on society as a whole. While trying to find
correlations between violence and masculinity, the role of society has a large influence. It decides
whether or not you meet societal norms and if you do not, you are seen as unequal and less than those
who do. This is demonstrated in the Columbine section of the chapter where Katz and Jhally mention
dominant male athletes did not hide their distance for those who did not fit in. ( gender and sexuality )
This implies to us the shooters most likely acted out by using violence because they were deemed less
than the jocks and a separate social class. In this chapter, there is also a focus on dominance, power
and control. There is a relation to conflict theory in this idea because it acknowledges the desire of
privilege. As many try to increase theirs and be viewed as equal, they may feel the

Thrasymachus And Socrates Definition Of Justice
As previously mentioned the notion that the strongest might be in control of what is considered justice
and what is considered just, begins not with Thrasymachus but with Cephalus. Williams credits
Cephalus for contributing this definition of justice to the conversation: justice means returning what
you owe and being honest. Socrates effectively defeats this definition by proposing the question of
what should one do when they owe a mad man a weapon, as returning the weapon would be seen as an
unjust action.(Plato,331c) Socrates, however, also hints that Cephalus riches allow him to speak of
justice in such basic terms: The possession of money contributes a great deal to not cheating or lying

Indeed, Thrasymachus laid down a definition of justice which encouraged people to recklessly pursue
their own gains, and Trump could be accused of exhibiting the very sort of behavior Thrasymachus
promoted. Williams does not get his wrong. Where he gets it wrong is in comparing Trump, who is but
one crooked politician, to Thrasymachus, who is commenting on ordinary politics as a whole: Where
he to have access to Twitter, one could easily imagine Thrasymachus engaging furiously in late night
tweet battles. (Williams, pg.1) In addition, Williams doesn t realize that Thrasymachus isn t proposing
a new definition for justice, but that he is simply reporting on what he s learned from experience.
Thrasymachus is the messenger, letting everyone know that justice, something mankind has held dear
for centuries, is fake, nothing but a ruse set up by the strong to take advantage of the weak. It s not as
though Thrasymachus is a complete enemy of justice, for he shows an inkling of support for justice in
the anger he shows towards Socrates unfair method of debating.(Plato, 336c) Thrasymachus, however,
has come to the unpleasant realization that one can never go far by being just, and with this realization
he made another: those who are unjust will always tell those who have yet to become unjust to remain
just, so as to ensure that their interests will not be met with resistance. Thrasymachus is just reporting
what he s seen, as recently as the definitions provided by Cephalus and Polemarchus, which only
worked for those who were wealthy and powerful. Trump, on the other hand, is no messenger, for he
does not preach that one should break the law whenever possible, he instead puts such line of thought
into action, behind the scenes of course. To

Corruption of justice in the prison system is relevant in Stephen Kings, novella, Rita Hayworth and

likely to change as the independent variable changes. With age changing a person s wants or needs
would also change. A person that is young and single would most likely not come to a car lot to
purchase a minivan whereas a person that has begun a family would consider this purchase. A teenager
that has just received their license is most likely not going to purchase a large family vehicle as well.
Mattingly mentions that dependent variables are akin to phenomena; selection of dependent variables,
therefore, should be based on the phenomenon of interest rather than some context (Dependent
Variables, p. 237). Thus saying that dependent variables should be based on occurrences or facts that
are of interest to the researcher, rather than just as a method of research.
Moderating Variables. Moderating variables are another form of independent variables. These
variables will have a significant effect on the independent variables and the dependent variables
relationship (Cooper Schindler. p. 56). Moderating variables would include the variables such as
competitors advertising, competitive dealer discounts, and the introduction of new competitive
models. These variables are outside the control of the original automobile manufacturer, but using
these variables would most definitely have an effect on the relationship in the independent and
dependent variables.

Once More Of The Lake
Once More to the Lake is a short essay written by E.B. White for his column in the New Yorker, One
Man s Meat. Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his childhood
vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past. Throughout the
trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While much of E.B. White s
essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks both to the past and to the
future. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York, and died in
1985. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places and held several jobs ranging from
reporter to army private. He became a multifaceted writer but primarily wrote style manual, fiction,
poetry, and children s literature. Throughout his life, White was surrounded by many other talented
writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well
known children s stories Stuart Little and Charlotte s Web. Many of White s works were accomplished
with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine Angell. Once More to the Lake was published in
1941 along with many other works on which he and Katharine had collaborated. The year 1941 was
the onset of World War II in America. Other countries had been at war for some time. In 1941,
however, the war became increasingly eminent for Americans. E.B. White did not slow down his

Research On The Learning Of An Educational Setup Essay
1.0 Introduction
New Zealand social researchers Carl Davidson and Martin Tolich (1999) point out that research fulfils
three roles exploring, describing and explaining (as cited in Mutch, 2005, p. 16). Research helps to
add more qualitative information to an existing body of knowledge or helps to decipher a problem
existing in an educational setup. Sometimes, research tends to bring into light certain issues that
required attention. Baumfield and Butterworth (2005) suggest that engagement in research by teachers
has a positive impact on the learning of the pupils in their classrooms (as cited in Menter, Elliot,
Hulme, Lewin, Lowden, 2011, p. 14).
Having taught General Science to primary and middle school students (ages 9 11) and Chemistry to
secondary section students (ages 13 15), I have observed a change in the students approach towards
the study of Science. As the students progressed to higher grades, they started losing their interest in
science. Applying scientific concepts in practical scenarios became a challenging process and yet,
many continued to study science simply due to the pressure of choosing a career in the field of
medicine or engineering.
2.0 Aim of my research
As a science teacher, lesson planning involves setting specific learning objectives and predicting the
expected outcomes. On learning a scientific concept, the students are taught to build up on the concept
and eventually look at the final scientific theory that resonates with their

Why I Am A Bad Writer
From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I
loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn t write at home before that the thought of writing
for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I just tried to
get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad writer. I have
never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of just writing
something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay grade because I
followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I didn t start the
assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type the paper on my phone
in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I continued writing in that
awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to write a paper on The Great Gatsby
a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and then wrote the paper and never
reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the prompt and turned my paper in. When
I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn t get even a half decent grade I was given a zero.
I went to my teacher after class to speak with him about the grade and he told me I got the grade that I
deserved. He said I was lazy and never tried to truly work in

Social Class Conflict In The Outsiders
The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton is about social class conflict, the tension which exists in society
between people of different classes due to different interests and desires. The main character, Pony
Boy Curtis is a 14 year old boy, who is the narrator and main character of the book, he was named by
his that dad died in an auto wreck when he was younger. He has to live with his two older brothers
Darry and Sodapop. It is a struggle to live without any parents around. Ponyboy says We re poorer
than the Socs and the middle class . Ponyboy s gang the greasers come from the struggling east side,
while their rival gang the Socs come from the wealthy west side and also known as the rich snobby
rits because the Socs get spoiled and live a luxurious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greasers are always getting jumped by the Socs because they dress differently, or just because they
have nothing else exciting to do. The Greasers have to constantly carry weapons like pocket knives
around everywhere they go because they never know if they will get jumped by a Soc like Pony did.
Good behavior. Got off early Dallas Winston. In the beginning of this book Dallas just got out of jail,
this quote shows that a lot of the characters in this book belong to a criminal class, both greasers and
soc. In this book you are classified as greaser, or a soc, there is no in the middle. The Socs and
Greasers can t get past the fact that they are some how similar .I can connect to this because I am
Jewish, and all my friends are mostly Christians. Just like the Greasers, it is sometimes hard to fit in
because I have different beliefs than everyone else. Also, the Greasers get treated differently for who
they are, just like how someone might treat me differently because I am Jewish but really I am the
same as all of them even though I might be part of a different religion and have different interests or
beliefs. Maybe the two different worlds we live in weren t so different. We saw the same sunset

The Analysis Of The Foot Bones Of Homo Nadedi
The news is about the analysis of the foot bones of Homo nadedi, whose remains were discovered
within the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star cave system in South Africa. It was introduced to the
public recently and assigned to the genus Homo provisionally. Study indicates that H. naledi was well
adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly comfortable climbing trees, which
was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title. This news item is based The Foot of
Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human
like in morphology and inferred function.
From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive and
precisely reasoned.
First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern
human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the
Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only
compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan
troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Afarensis, Au ramidus, H. floresiensis, Neanderthal etc.)
from several different museums. The abundant samples enable researchers to come up with rational
conclusion through plenty of comparison. The news item mentions that Homo genus also includes
Homo erectus and Homo

A Comparison Of Daniel Craig And Sean Connery
James Bond, the world s most famous spy, has been played by many iconic actors. Daniel Craig and
Sean Connery are arguably two of the best to play James Bond. Both Daniel Craig and Sean Connery
were fantastic playing the part of James Bond but had differences such as popularity, box office
success, and salaries. First, Sean Connery was the first actor to play James Bond in a movie. He
played the part of Bond for seven movies. His movies are titled Dr. No(1962), From Russia With
Love(1963), Goldfinger(1964), Thunderball(1965), You Only Live Twice(1967), Diamonds Are
Forever(1971), and Never Say Never Again(1983). He was the first Bond to say the words

  • 2. Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand? By Jihad Mohd Erfino Introduction: Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the world. It questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and even for medical research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world (including New Zealand) today, many question whether it should go on. Animal testing is generally the use of animals for different purposes in lab conditions. Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since the 2nd century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing Wikipedia). He was the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The first animal testing experiments was to find out how our bodies work. For example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals was discovered in the 12th century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in the 17th century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human medical advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio which has almost been eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better understanding of our bodily mechanisms, function and several diseases. Some diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated better due to animal testing discoveries. Year Medical Advancement Animal credited 1796 Smallpox vaccine developed Cow 1881 ... • 3. Experimental Research And Experimental Methods Experimental To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict the effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a more reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure. Reliability is necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote locations where it is not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across the turbine blade creates moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic inflow. The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on a horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes. By performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate whether single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A recent article titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the experiment with valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of turbulent loads and fatigue life along with the results of the experiment. Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. Worldwide ocean power capacity is approximately 6 Megawatts and over the next few years it is projected to increase to 35 Megawatts3. For this reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Caused The Six Day War The Six Day War was a war that took place on June 5 10 in 1967. The war resulted in the Israelis capturing 5 locations. This was thought to be impossible as the chances of them doing so was very small, almost nothing. The victory for Israel took everyone for surprise, including the Israelis. It seemed as if though it was a miracle. The war all comes down to the Israelis redirecting the water flow from the Jordan River to the Negev Desert. The Arabs clearly didn t like it. This resulted in bombings from Israel to Syria after the the Arabs began threatening and implementing their policy of diverting the water from Israel. Titanic was supposed to be an amazingly built ship that was unsinkable , but what they didn t know was that Titanic was unsinkable in the case of it colliding with other ships, not an iceberg. If the ships construction was a little bit more put together, the ice patrol had better communication, and the lifeboats would have come back, Titanic wouldn t lay 12,500 feet in the twenty eight degrees fahrenheit water below the coast of Newfoundland. Understanding The Neurological Complexity Of The Human Brain In order to better understand the neurological complexity of the human brain, it is reasonable to first compare it to a similar organ, and according to Professor David Anderson, that is a fruit fly s brain. As a neurological researcher at the Caltech David Anderson Lab, Professor Anderson claims that the human brain is much more complex than thought, but with the help of fruit fly experimentation, understanding the human brain is made simple. As guest speaker at the TED Conference, Anderson informs his audience of a common misconception with the human brain, a misconception he intends to disprove by using evidence from his fruit fly experimentations. Opening up his lecture, Professor Anderson immediately harnessed the crowds curiosity through his questions requiring crowd participation. He first asked the crowd to raise their hand if they had any family history of mental illnesses. Most of the attending listeners responded to his inquiry with their hands raised high, signaling Anderson to ask his next question. Secondly, Anderson asked if anyone could agree that fruit fly research would help further the understanding of mental illnesses and if so, they should keep their hand raised. Naturally, in response to his second question, the audiences hands went back down. The humorous contrast in the crowds response resulted in laughter within the audience, which allowed Anderson to smoothly transition to his next point. He continued to use rhetorical questioning throughout his speech as seen when he asked, Can an organism like this teach us anything about emotion like states? Do these organisms even have emotion like states or are they just little digital robots? (00:04:55). Comparing living fruit flies to inanimate robots is silly and not realistic; this obvious answer made clear to his listeners that there is a high chance that fruit fly research could benefit the understanding of the human mind. • 10. Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall Leigh s statement that The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were neighbours seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so present in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of impenetrable barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of theatre and performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier with a variety of means ... This is backed up by Livy s claim that in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in their own plays and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of playing the poet is vaguely autobiographical in nature as Plautus who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of entertaining the audience now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role, in order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events that occur outside the play such as the nature of Plautus true identity is never stated outright in the play, but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such knowledge. In the context of Leigh s garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the neighbour winking over the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually mentioning ... A single event was to have catastrophic consequences a single bullet fired in the balmy summer of 1914 led to the deaths of millions and devastation of a scale never before seen. The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife was critical in setting off the chain of events that led to the First World War. Not only was it a bad day for the Archduke and his family, but also a bad day for Europe. The First World War began just a shade more than a hundred years ago. This war remains one of the most defining conflicts of modern time and changed not only Europe, but the entire world in many ways. Doctors tried for years to find the treatment for this disorder, but were unsuccessful until the discovery of Lithium. Prior to the discovery of Lithium, people with disorders did not have a way to deal with their disease because earlier forms of treatment, such as psychotherapy, ECT, and antidepressant did not work and sometimes the drugs even triggered an episode. Lithium was a known substance found in simple mineral salts, but it was not until 1949 when John cade was doing an experiment on rats that he found how useful lithium was in calming the effects the disorder (Comer 2013). The use of Lithium was approved by the FDA in 1970 and was shown to improve the symptoms of more than 60% of manic patients and also help prevent the symptoms from ever developing. The amount of lithium dosage given to patients is a critical process because too little of the medicine can have little effect, but too much can result in lithium intoxication which can lead to nausea, vomiting, sluggishness, tremors, dizziness, kidney dysfunction and can possible result in death. Patients should also have their doctors check the lithium level in their blood to avoid intoxication. Despite the effectiveness of this drug, it has some side effects. There are several key steps that must be addressed in order for successful virtual schooling to take place: Be realistic about technology. Outdated computer labs are not going to support virtual schooling. Technology has to be up to date in order to support the online learner, including computers and internet service. However, there is one thing that I think most people do not stop and ponder, which is how does a hurricane even get forecast? From the direction it is going to be headed, to how it is categorized. The group that preforms all forecasting for tropical cyclone activity is the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and they cover the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific basins throughout North America. One of the biggest assets that are in use is the Chief, Aerial Reconnaissance Coordination, All Hurricanes (CARCAH) which organizes tropical cyclone scouting flights. These flights gather data about the storm and it is sent back to the ground team of CARCAH and thoroughly checked for any errors, before being given to the NHC and then released to the public. Another asset that is used is the Automated Surface Observations Stations (ASOSs) and instrumented weather balloons (radiosondes) which can deliver supplementary measurements as needed. The King promised to meet some of the ladies and give them all the bread in the palace. Before that happened The National guard came to take the king back to France for fear of his safety. The Queen who was Marie Antoinette barely escaped. The king compromised and said he would speak to the women on the balcony of the palace. As i mentioned before the lines and the life size of the sculpture are done in a way to give augustus almost human mannerisms you see the veins in his arms and feet, the adam s apple in his throat and well defined muscles in his calves. and , as i alluded to in the above paragraphs his body looks to be in mid motion and you could almost see him addressing his subjects, the sculpture captures every overlapping line in his toga so it ll look wrinkled while draping across his forearm, his plate armor is even detailed enough where you see an outline of his pecs and abs, and his facial features are carefully constructed to show off his crooked nose, chiseled chin and big ears, the eyes however are more of an outline than an actual detailing which i think were very common for most sculptures back then. The Augustus of primaporta has a smooth quality to it as if it s a almost perfect form of augustus it was modeled to capture him in his prime or his peak, so i feel that the artist wanted the sculpture to show a dreamy and undamaged version that would live on even when they pass or augustus got older. • 21. Comparing Hamlet And Gladiator Since the beginning of time, humans have attempted to correct an unjust behavior through the act of seeking revenge. But does seeking revenge really correct the wrongs? Mahatma Gandhi once famously said, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves . Seeking revenge maybe useful to punish the offender but it will never calm the inner anger. The works of Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare and Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, show that Hamlet and Maximus end up digging their own graves as they strive to get revenge for the wrongdoings that were done to them. Hamlet and Maximus both want to seek revenge for the murder of their fatherly figures but they both contrast each other in the ways they have their revenge. In this particular instance, Hamlet displays his hesitation towards the idea of having revenge. He is unable to make up his mind as he tries to rationalize his purpose. • 24. Political Differences Between Eastern And Western Europe Before period 3 came the fall of many great empires across the world. Han China and Gupta India were falling to invaders and revolts. However, one of the most important downfalls of an empire in the classical period was the fall of the Roman Empire. Due to many contributing factors, Rome broke apart towards the end of period 2 and changed the entirety of Europe and the Middle East. This fall more importantly increased the divide between Eastern and Western Europe. After the fall of Rome, the administrations of Western and Eastern Europe showed more drastic differences in both centralization and religion. However, even with this major differences they still shared the same ambitions and values. One of the primary differences between Eastern and Western Europe in period 3 is their respective governments or more specifically the centralization of them. The major nation in the East was the Byzantines. They are known for being extremely centralized and having a very large bureaucracy. While on the other hand, Western Europe was split into many smaller areas and states, each having very loose organization. The paramount example of a noncentralized Europe is the governing system. This system was feudalism, a political system that spreads power and control amongst lords and their vassals. While the king has a lot of power, feudalism does not allow for a heavily centralized government. With the Byzantines it is almost the opposite. Most of the power was given to the emperor. The ... Morality In The Lion King The Lion King: Simba s Journey Towards Sanity and Morality Walt Disney s The Lion King opens with a magnificent introduction to the forthcoming King of the Pride Lands, providing the audience with an impression of the intriguing journey that is on the verge of unfolding. As the story progresses, it becomes evident that Simba is in the midst of a quest. Such evidence is portrayed in the film through his possession of heroic qualities, such as courage, love, and perseverance. In addition, the process of undergoing trials, receiving aid, fighting enemies, and succeeding at attaining the treasure sought, contributes towards sanity and morality within him (Myth of a Quest: an Archetype). Therefore, in the film The Lion King, Simba s journey would be considered a quest for sanity and morality since throughout the film the main character deals with a darker evil side, comes to terms with some kind of personal integration and reaches a self understanding. In the beginning of the narrative, a portrayal of various characters and their relationships with Simba demonstrates their contribution towards Simba s ability to comprehend the existence of a darker, evil side. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1, with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan. Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1. So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Thrasymachus And Socrates Definition Of Justice As previously mentioned the notion that the strongest might be in control of what is considered justice and what is considered just, begins not with Thrasymachus but with Cephalus. Williams credits Cephalus for contributing this definition of justice to the conversation: justice means returning what you owe and being honest. Socrates effectively defeats this definition by proposing the question of what should one do when they owe a mad man a weapon, as returning the weapon would be seen as an unjust action.(Plato,331c) Socrates, however, also hints that Cephalus riches allow him to speak of justice in such basic terms: The possession of money contributes a great deal to not cheating or lying to any man against one s will, and, moreover, to ... (Williams, pg.1) In addition, Williams doesn t realize that Thrasymachus isn t proposing a new definition for justice, but that he is simply reporting on what he s learned from experience. Thrasymachus is the messenger, letting everyone know that justice, something mankind has held dear for centuries, is fake, nothing but a ruse set up by the strong to take advantage of the weak. It s not as though Thrasymachus is a complete enemy of justice, for he shows an inkling of support for justice in the anger he shows towards Socrates unfair method of debating.(Plato, 336c) Thrasymachus, however, has come to the unpleasant realization that one can never go far by being just, and with this realization he made another: those who are unjust will always tell those who have yet to become unjust to remain just, so as to ensure that their interests will not be met with resistance. Thrasymachus is just reporting what he s seen, as recently as the definitions provided by Cephalus and Polemarchus, which only worked for those who were wealthy and powerful. Some of those variables would include competitor advertising, competitor dealer discounts, introductions of new competitive models. Other variables that would be considered would be the age and gender of the purchaser, also traits and characteristics of the purchaser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dependent Variables. Dependent variables are dependent upon the independent variable and would be likely to change as the independent variable changes. With age changing a person s wants or needs would also change. A person that is young and single would most likely not come to a car lot to purchase a minivan whereas a person that has begun a family would consider this purchase. A teenager that has just received their license is most likely not going to purchase a large family vehicle as well. Mattingly mentions that dependent variables are akin to phenomena; selection of dependent variables, therefore, should be based on the phenomenon of interest rather than some context (Dependent Variables, p. 237). Thus saying that dependent variables should be based on occurrences or facts that are of interest to the researcher, rather than just as a method of research. Moderating Variables. Moderating variables are another form of independent variables. These variables will have a significant effect on the independent variables and the dependent variables relationship (Cooper Schindler. p. 56). Moderating variables would include the variables such as competitors advertising, competitive dealer discounts, and the introduction of new competitive models. These variables are outside the control of the original automobile manufacturer, but using these variables would most definitely have an effect on the relationship in the independent and dependent variables. ... • 41. Once More Of The Lake Once More to the Lake is a short essay written by E.B. White for his column in the New Yorker, One Man s Meat. Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his childhood vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past. Throughout the trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While much of E.B. White s essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks both to the past and to the future. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York, and died in 1985. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places and held several jobs ranging from reporter to army private. He became a multifaceted writer but primarily wrote style manual, fiction, poetry, and children s literature. Throughout his life, White was surrounded by many other talented writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well known children s stories Stuart Little and Charlotte s Web. Many of White s works were accomplished with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine Angell. Once More to the Lake was published in 1941 along with many other works on which he and Katharine had collaborated. The year 1941 was the onset of World War II in America. Other countries had been at war for some time. In 1941, however, the war became increasingly eminent for Americans. E.B. White did not slow down his writing during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Research On The Learning Of An Educational Setup Essay 1.0 Introduction New Zealand social researchers Carl Davidson and Martin Tolich (1999) point out that research fulfils three roles exploring, describing and explaining (as cited in Mutch, 2005, p. 16). Research helps to add more qualitative information to an existing body of knowledge or helps to decipher a problem existing in an educational setup. Sometimes, research tends to bring into light certain issues that required attention. Baumfield and Butterworth (2005) suggest that engagement in research by teachers has a positive impact on the learning of the pupils in their classrooms (as cited in Menter, Elliot, Hulme, Lewin, Lowden, 2011, p. 14). Having taught General Science to primary and middle school students (ages 9 11) and Chemistry to secondary section students (ages 13 15), I have observed a change in the students approach towards the study of Science. As the students progressed to higher grades, they started losing their interest in science. Applying scientific concepts in practical scenarios became a challenging process and yet, many continued to study science simply due to the pressure of choosing a career in the field of medicine or engineering. 2.0 Aim of my research As a science teacher, lesson planning involves setting specific learning objectives and predicting the expected outcomes. On learning a scientific concept, the students are taught to build up on the concept and eventually look at the final scientific theory that resonates with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Why I Am A Bad Writer From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn t write at home before that the thought of writing for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I just tried to get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad writer. I have never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of just writing something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay grade because I followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I didn t start the assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type the paper on my phone in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I continued writing in that awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to write a paper on The Great Gatsby a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and then wrote the paper and never reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the prompt and turned my paper in. When I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn t get even a half decent grade I was given a zero. I went to my teacher after class to speak with him about the grade and he told me I got the grade that I deserved. He said I was lazy and never tried to truly work in ... The Greasers have to constantly carry weapons like pocket knives around everywhere they go because they never know if they will get jumped by a Soc like Pony did. Good behavior. Got off early Dallas Winston. In the beginning of this book Dallas just got out of jail, this quote shows that a lot of the characters in this book belong to a criminal class, both greasers and soc. In this book you are classified as greaser, or a soc, there is no in the middle. The Socs and Greasers can t get past the fact that they are some how similar .I can connect to this because I am Jewish, and all my friends are mostly Christians. Just like the Greasers, it is sometimes hard to fit in because I have different beliefs than everyone else. Also, the Greasers get treated differently for who they are, just like how someone might treat me differently because I am Jewish but really I am the same as all of them even though I might be part of a different religion and have different interests or beliefs. • 45. The Analysis Of The Foot Bones Of Homo Nadedi The news is about the analysis of the foot bones of Homo nadedi, whose remains were discovered within the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star cave system in South Africa. It was introduced to the public recently and assigned to the genus Homo provisionally. Study indicates that H. naledi was well adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly comfortable climbing trees, which was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title. This news item is based The Foot of Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human like in morphology and inferred function. From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive and precisely reasoned. First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Afarensis, Au ramidus, H. floresiensis, Neanderthal etc.) from several different museums. The abundant samples enable researchers to come up with rational conclusion through plenty of comparison. The news item mentions that Homo genus also includes Homo erectus and Homo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
