Jaws Short Monologue Analysis
Patrick Cassells
Ms. Ballard
Period One
October 5th 2014
Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone chilling
fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws.
You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he
comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then,
ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin
and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that first dawn, lost a
hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know how many men, they
averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was maybe eleven when I first
watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his experience in the waters of the Atlantic,
dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. Indianapolis has always instilled fear and awe in me. Awe
and fear towards sharks. So what s it called when something instills a feeling of awe in a person?
Well, it means that that thing is awesome. So that must mean that ... Show more content on

To this day, many of us still see them this way. In fact, coastal states stared to host shark culling
events. In these sometime month long events, a state government will pay any fishermen to bring in a
freshly killed shark generous amounts of money. Peter Benchley, the author of Jaws doesn t support
shark culling, he in fact helped raise awareness about sharks becoming endangered. He wrote articles
about how misunderstood sharks are (Benchley, Peter). This is now illegal in the United States, but is
still practiced in countries such as Japan and Australia. Even in those countries, shark culling is on its
way out. But

The Origins Of The Chubb Corporation Essay
Corporate Overview
The origins of the Chubb Corporation date back to 1882 when Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son
Percy opened their marine underwriting business in the seaport district of New York City. Having
collected $1,000 from each of 100 prominent merchants to start their venture, they focused initially on
insuring ships and cargoes. The Chubb s were adept at turning risk into success, often by helping their
policyholders prevent disasters before they occurred. By the turn of the century, Chubb had
established strong relationships with the insurance agents and brokers who placed their clients
business with Chubb underwriters. Chubb Son did not value size in itself but regarded it as a measure
of what had been achieved. Upon the Company s 75th anniversary in 1957, Hendon Chubb who had
joined his older brother Percy in the firm in 1895 noted, I think there is perhaps a tendency in
American business to overemphasize mere size, whereas to me it should be a by product of a job well
done.
Mission Statement:
CHUBB s mission statement explains that The Chubb mission is to provide excellent services to its
customers throughout their life. This corporation demonstrates it by offering various numbers of
services in the insurance industry. They do not only focus in one specific area of their customers, but
instead broad their services to any kind of problem that might come through the way of their
customers.

The Collapse of the Westgate Bridge, Located in Melbourne,...
This report goes into detail the collapse of the Westgate Bridge, located in Melbourne, Australia. What
was meant to be a bridge that joined two sides of the city of Melbourne, lead to Australia s worst
workplace disaster in history, with a death toll of 35. Included in this report is a history of the planning
of the bridge, the events that lead to the collapse, as well as the collapse itself and how it happened.
Also covered are the ethical issues portrayed by the companies working on the construction of the
Westgate Bridge. I. INTRODUCTION On the 15th October, 1970, during its third year of
construction, the Westgate Bridge collapsed killing 35 men. The section of the bridge that collapsed
was a 128 meter span that was being worked on at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new contractors were very experienced at working with concrete, but lacked the knowledge and
experience with working with steel. Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on the basis
of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the engineering
decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and lack of
communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four months prior to
the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners, collapsed in Milford
Haven, Wales, killing four workers. Understandably, there was a lot of industrial unrest on the
construction site of the Westgate Bridge, although workers had been assured by Freeman Fox Partners
that the design of the Westgate was perfectly safe, but was not supported by any relevant or sufficient
calculations. IV.THE COLLAPSE During the construction, two half spans being assembled 50 meters
above ground level had a misalignment of 4.5 inches or 114mm in camber. It was suggested by John
Holland Constructions to use a kentledge to weigh down the higher section of bridge. It so happened
that they had ten, eight tonne concrete blocks on site. These were placed halfway along the higher

The World s Overpopulation Problem Essay
Have you ever wondered what earth would be like in the near future with over 10 billion people from
7 billion? A newspaper source from Population Peril states that there are 210,000 new people
everyday and by 2050 that there will be roughly 9.6 billion people (McClatchy). How are we going to
prevent the disastrous measure of pollution, diseases, extinction of resources, more poverty, people
and etc.? As the world s overpopulation problem should be changed to prevent future severe issues.
First off, the proponent states that the one future major problem that will ineffably get worse is
epidemic or outbreaks of disease and viruses. The more people on earth the higher chance diseases
will evolve and travel faster. As Keiji Fukuda, then the assistant director general for health security at
the World Health Organization (WHO), said in 2013, The world is not ready for a large, severe
outbreak. (Angell). Some new and old epidemic diseases that will get worse with more people is Zika
(mosquito), Cholera (sewage), Ebola, SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), and MERS (Middle
East respiratory syndrome). Another virus is the bird flu that is even a further severe disease problem
as well as anything airborne. The New York Times, Michael T. Osterholm, the director of the Center
for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, wrote, Even more than
these viruses, we should be afraid of a planet wide catastrophe caused by influenza. (Angell).

What Is A Reflection In Strategic Leadership
A reflection in Strategic Leadership Before coming to USAWC I think that my experience and
knowledge gained during the twenty five years of service is an important quality to possess. At one
point I thought: A few years until retirement, and probably no special secrets for me to discover during
the academic year. I can only confirm existing knowledge, gained some new and meet an interesting
people before returning home . Much to my surprise, already after the first reading and discussion at
the seminar, I realize that this will be more interesting than I had hoped. The first lessons were related
to leadership and I was wondering what s new here. I thought I knew a theory about leadership. After
all, I am an author of a document about the leadership in SAF.
But, the first readings, seminar dialogues and discussions are shedding new light on my thinking about
leadership in general, my knowledge and experience, traits, values and shortcomings. Thanks to the
readings and discussions in outstanding environment I become aware of what one colonel told to me:
This is going to be the best year of your career . It looks like he s going to be right. Next academic
year is a great opportunity for me to build strategic leadership competencies and achieve outcomes of
USAWC s curriculum.
According to given task and my aspiration in the future, I will attempt to express my reflection in two
of four mission specific outcomes based on GEN Powell s autobiography: strategic leaders and

The Impact Of Unemployment On Aboriginal And Torres Strait...
One social determinant that impacts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is unemployment.
According to the Australian Census in 2011, 56% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population
in Australia were participating in the labour force, however, 17.2% of this population were
unemployed but seeking employment (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2013). Comparing these
numbers to the non indigenous population, the percentage of the indigenous population in the labour
force is significantly lower than non indigenous Australians, with a difference of 20.5% (ABS, 2013).
Through my learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, it was mentioned
that most indigenous people were unemployed or experienced poverty, the statistics allowed me to put
these statements into perspective. Upon learning this I felt quite shocked and alarmed at the high rates
of people that were not working or even trying to find work. It gave me a better understanding of how
seeking employment for indigenous people may be a stressful and daunting process. But it also made
me think on how unemployment can affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that being unemployed for a prolonged period may be a detriment to physical and mental
health due to overwhelming stress. The idea of unemployment being detrimental to health correlates
with Pharr s (2012) and Janlert s (2014) researches on the impact of unemployment on mental and
physical health. Both concluded similarly that people who have been unemployed for prolonged
period have poor mental health compared to the employed, Pharr (2012) also stated that unemployed
people are hesitant to receive medical treatment for physical health due to cost. Stress contributes to
poor mental health but also feelings of disappointment and shame towards

Themes Of Marigolds And Miss Brill
Sometimes one has to go through alienation and isolation to reach a transformation. In both Marigolds
by Eugenia W. Collier and Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, the characters transform majorly due to
their feelings of isolation. Marigolds is about a woman called Lizabeth recalling her coming of age
experience and Miss Brill is about a lonely woman living in a fantasy life that she has created for
herself. The theme of alienation and a definitive transformation is evident in both stories. In
Marigolds, the theme of alienation is not as noticeable as in Miss Brill, but still appears throughout the
story. It first starts in the beginning of the story when the author uses I repeatedly in the first
paragraph. The author echoes the authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miss Brill created a fantasy life to escape her lonely one and is heartbroken when she is brought back
to reality. In the first paragraph, the fox fur is almost like a friend to her. She treated it as though it is
still alive referring to it as a dear little thing! (Mansfield para 1). She is constantly alone but always
manages to make herself feel oppositely. Every Sunday, while walking alone at the park, she witnesses
what she call a play .. She is always listening as though she didn t listen and sitting in other people s
lives just for a minute while they talked round her, (Mansfield para 3). Miss Brill considers herself
part of the play and that even she had a part and came every Sunday (Mansfield para 19). No doubt
somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she was part of the play after all (Mansfield
para 19). However, she is devastated when the only thing she considers herself to be attached to, her
fur, is insulted by the girl. She went home that day, alone like always, and quickly put down her fur
lining back into the box as she heard someone crying (Mansfield para 18). The person crying is Miss
Brill and she is alone when she does it, just like she is throughout the whole

Connections Report 1.8 Connections
The theme of love connection between people is a very important part of life. I choose this theme as it
is a very relevant and relatable subject for many people in our society. The four texts I chose were: the
fictional novel Delirium , by Lauren Oliver, the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift, song Same Love
by Macklemore and fictional novel Girl Online , by Zoe Sugg. There was a strong connection of love
between two people in all of these texts.
The first text that I looked at that showed the connection of love was Delirium. This novel discusses
the connection of love. Love is the main theme of this novel. The main character ... Show more

This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and discusses
equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to write this song
because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the
hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the
stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head
this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is.
These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses
how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates
me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve
become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different
way to what we would usually expect. This song has a different view on the connection of love
compared to other books with the theme of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than
heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I
believe that there should be equality on who you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t
be used with such negative connotations, and I m sure many others in our society would

Pros And Cons Of Student Loan Fraud
Student Loan Fraud
In February, 2017, the United States District Court in Florida entered a final judgement in a civil trial
against FastTrain College, a for profit college chain, for falsifying documents used to defraud the
Department of Education of more than $12 million (Office of Inspector General, 2017). The owner,
Alejandro Amor, and the school falsified documents to receive federal funding through the Federal
Pell Grant Program, the Federal Direct Loan Program, the Federal Family Education Loan Program,
among others which provide federal assistance to students. The school used predatory practices to
entice non eligible prospective student to lie on their federal student loan applications to receive
federal funding, most of which went directly to the school and Amor. Two years earlier, a judge
convicted Amor in a criminal trial for conspiracy to steal government funds and theft of government
funds, leading to a 97 month jail sentence. Student loan fraud makes it more difficult for eligible
students to receive federal aid in getting a higher education. Additionally, the United States
government loses millions of dollars of taxpayer money to fraudulent student loan schemes and is
unlikely to recover the total amount lost.

My Ethnographic Research On The Restaurant Sweet Tomatoes...
When going out to eat, we don t observe the workers of the restaurant we re at. We become focused on
our friends, our order, and even the people around the restaurant. Sure we talk with the server or smile
at an employee when eye contact is made, but we never really observe how the community in the
restaurants we go to are like. I want people to be informed that in order for the restaurant to be great, it
all starts with its workers. These blue collar workers are the shadows when it comes to restaurant
research, however they are more interesting than one would usually think. To allow people to gain
more knowledge on this, I decided to do my ethnographic research on the community of restaurant
workers, more specifically the community within the restaurant Sweet Tomatoes. I have been part of
the community for almost three years and have been able to interact with all kinds of people that have
worked there. I want people to know what goes on behind the kitchen doors and understand how the
workers interact when the environment becomes stressful or relaxed, so they understand how the
setting influences the employees. To receive the best possible outcome in this observation study, I
decided to examine and write things down on days that I was off. I went in for about an hour and
observed how the employees interacted with guests and each other. I frequented the restaurant on busy
days as well as slow ones to convey if the pace of the restaurant also affected the employees. Instead

Gender Stereotypes In Television Commercials
Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Television Commercials.
Liuyi Bian
University of Florida
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in gender portrayal in children s television
commercials. The hypothesis that stated, if an observed television program is determined to be
intended for girls, then the colors used in the commercials would be predominantly intended for girls,
is strongly supported. To do content analysis, we first gathered a sample of 50 television commercials
aired on children s television channels between 8 to 10 PM, then we coded each of the predictor and
criterion variables and conducted a chi square test. Our results indicate that most girl oriented
television programs presented commercials that incorporated girl stereotypical colors. Furthermore,
girls are often associated with bright and pastel colors while boys are associated more with neutral
colors.
Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Commercials
Introduction
Upon birth, everyone is acknowledged as either male or female. Excluding physical characteristics,
men and women are often separated into two ends of a spectrum. Yet instead of a clearly divided line,
what separates the two is in fact common societal standards and beliefs; these include cultural and
gender norms and stereotypes. Who established these supposed universal standards , and in what other
ways were they introduced to the general public? One of the most

the western culture and the Hmong culture, and how if affected Lia and her family as she grew up.

The book states that in China, where the Hmong are from, they were seen as barbarians, because they
refused to assimilate to the Chinese culture. The Hmong have kept their cultural practices and beliefs
no matter the circumstances and who is against them. This statement shows the powerful fighting
spirit of the Hmong people who refused to surrender even if the odds were against them. It is an
admirable trait that they have been able to keep their culture for thousands of years because they don t
believe that other cultures are superior to theirs. At the age of three months, Lia had her first epilepsy
attack. The condition was not hereditary since none of the other children of the Lees had epilepsy. Lias
Dad, Nao Kao, believed that the reason why she got the first attack of epilepsy was due to Lias older
sister slamming the door of the bedroom, which Lia was asleep in, with great force. As three month

illness to emerge. Lia was take to the Merced Community Medical Center, a hospital that had no

side of the interaction between government officers and people to present the conflicts under the
communist government. Because of that, this film is prohibited to be shown in China since the
government believes it is rabble rousing which offenses against the social order. Having been working

Datong used to be the capital of China sixteen hundred years ago, but it is now the most polluted city
in China for the rapid growth of coal mining industry. Mayor Geng, a lover of ancient Chinese poetry,

History and Relocation of Native Americans Essay
1. Trace the history of relocation and Indian reservations. In what ways did reservations destroy
Native American cultures, and in what ways did reservations foster tribal identities? Be sure to
account for patterns of change and consistency over time. When one hears the word relocation , I
assume, they think of taking one thing exactly as it was and placing it in a different location, but
placing it as it was and with the same resources. Relocation is a loaded term because before the word
relocation came about settlers of early America were forcefully pushing native peoples off their
homelands; they just didn t have the term relocation . In 1838 Mireau B. Lamar, president of the

The whole point of the meeting was to come to an agreement over disputes of land claims between
colonies and Indian nations including the Iroquois. Though, through trickery, the Iroquois had ceded
to the colonies land from sea to sea .2(p. 187) This meant land from the Ohio Valley all the way to the
Pacific Ocean. Needless to say the Indians involved were disappointed and angered. The Royal
Proclamation was the next advancement in the idea of relocation. The Royal Proclamation, made by
the British, was an intangible line drawn to separate Indian lands from colonial lands. This was made
to please the Indians, but also served as a way to contain and control its own peoples within the
colonies. I point this out as a step towards relocation because, one of the first steps is: knowing where
something can be moved from and then moved to. When a solid border is made of land that is known,
by all parties involved, of whose is whose, then half of the process is accomplished. I mean by this: if
the party, not yet aware of possibly being moved again, they will not try to occupy what the other
party has defined as their lands because there is the belief that the same will be reciprocated from the
latter party. Therefore, not as much attention is needed by the British to defend the land that is
understood to be in possession of the British, and more

The 1950 s Scene Analysis
Both films throughout contain ample voice over from the father character about his experience with
the engagement and wedding preparation, however in these parallel sequences the voice overs are not
used to the same extent nor to the same end. Neither scene contains any sound besides dialogue and
voice over, and the 1950 scene only uses one instance of voice over throughout. The aforementioned
line about lying is the only exclusive insight into Stanley s experience, and although this could imply
that the behavior he shows following this is dishonest it seems more so to be a nod to the stakes of a
successful first impression. Ellie s inner workings shine through just as much in this sequence with her

Other moments in the 1991 version use closer framing than the 1950 version in a way that hones in on
what specifically is bothering George in moments with multiple characters interacting. Keeping the
audience in the loop with him as the pace and cutting move quickly creates a feeling of being dragged
into this along with him. The cultural context in 1950 has an audience that is not only accustomed to a
straight forward method of filming compared to more modern traditions of intensified continuity
(Bordwell 121), but is also more likely to see reason in Stanley s point of view without needing to be
presented it from as many methods as in 1991. A father grappling with no longer having the final word
in his (albeit young) daughter s decision making makes sense within an older social context, and
Stanley comes off as lenient and loving as he works past his apprehensions to support her. Taking this
storyline entirely at face value and presenting it with the same style would not have the same effect for
the 1991 adaptation, and so not only does the film add narrative changes to what is suspicious about
the engagement, the formal elements consistently stay aligned with George in a manner that keeps the
audience conscious of what is drawing his responses. Insight into what bothers him and what appeases
him about the whole process, and formal depiction of the extent of his genuine concern, make his
story read heartwarming as well. The remake can retain the heart of the original story largely through
the effect of contemporary filming practices that guide attention, and in doing so in this film give the
audience the right understanding of the roundabout paths these fathers take to lovingly support their

Maximilian Kolbe had travelled as a missionary to countries in the Far East as well as Russia. In 1930
he also tried to help start a monastery in the town of Nagasaki, Japan. It was in 1939 that he started

The Evolution Of The Homo
Our homo ancestors date back to about 2.5 million years ago. Classification of the genus Homo into
species and subspecies remains poorly defined and subject to incomplete information, leading to
difficulties in binomial naming, and the use of common names, such as Neanderthal and Denisovan .
With that being said, many people get a misunderstanding when discussing our homo ancestors. The
biggest issue is knowing what a species are actually apart of the genus homo and who isn t. Several
species, including Australopithecus garhi, Australopithecus sediba, Australopithecus africanus, and
Australopithecus afarensis, have been proposed as the direct ancestor of the Homo lineage. These
species have morphological features that align them with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homo habilis had smaller molars and larger brains than the australopithecines, and made tools from
stone and perhaps animal bones. One of the first known hominids, it was nicknamed handy man by
discoverer Louis Leakey due to its association with stone tools. Some scientists have proposed moving
this species out of Homo and into Australopithecus due to the morphology of its skeleton being more
adapted to living on trees rather than to moving on two legs like Homo sapiens. Homo rudolfensis
findings in Kenya have been suggested to be Homo habilis, but scientists are unsure. The fossils found
from these two species are said to be from about 1.8 million years ago.
Homo georgicus, named after the country Georgia, is said to possibly be an intermediate form
between Homo erectus and Homo habilis or a sub species of Homo erectus.
Homo erectus lived from about 1.8 million to about 70,000 years ago. Many scientist believe that the
early stages of erectus, about 1.8 to 1.2 million years ago, is a separate species called Homo ergaster,
seen as a sub species of erectus. In the early Pleistocene, 1.5 1 Ma, in Africa some populations of
Homo habilis are thought to have evolved more complex brains and made more elaborate stone tools;
these differences and others are sufficient for anthropologists to classify them as a new species, Homo
erectus.
The next two species are said to be a mix between Homo

philosophers and biologists have presented sufficient evidence that evolution is true. Yet there is still
debate about this contentious topic. With the facts and findings of fossil records of earlier species,
ideas of initial theorists, and our own genetics and DNA, evolution can be hard to prove wrong.
Evolution is not just a change over time, but that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor. This
process is occurring in our lives right now. What exactly is evolution? Evolution is the process
through which the characteristics of organisms change over successive generations, by means of
genetic variation . (What is evolution) Simply, descent with modification. Charles Darwin was the first
person with the acceptable explanation of evolution. Although his theory gave forth too many
tremendous advances, he did not build this theory on his own. He learned and built off earlier
theorists, like Jean Baptiste Lamarck, who indorsed linear evolution . (evolution) As well as Aristotle,
a Greek philosopher, with his concept of Scala Nature. These early theorists served as a foundation for
Charles Darwin s theory. Although Darwin s theory was important, a greater attribution to evolution
was founded. That is the uncovering of fossils. Fossils are significant to the evolution because they
show how life on Earth was

A. flavus was grown on Potato Agar Dextrose (PDA) media on Petri dishes at optimum growth
temperature of 25 to 30°C for seven days. Before that, 39g of PDA was dissolve in 1 Litre of distilled
water and poured into half of the petri dish. There are 5 Petri dishes that are needed for this fungi
preparation. Then, the culture was maintained at 4°C and subculture every 30 to 40 days. Then, the
Petri dishes were sealed with paraffin film and kept in a box in order to make sure the fungi grow
perfectly. Noted that all the steps above are done in the laminar flow to avoid contamination that
might stunt the growth of A. flavus.

Myrtle Carter Creative Writing
Such an unusual time, this minute of sleeping. It s around noon, half past eleven, and the room was so
quiet that if you were to listen close you could hear little ants running across to reach the crumbs that
had scattered beneath the counter and onto the floor. The walls are quiet, too, with nothing to watch,
they close their eyes and rest soundly. The lamps bleed light into the room, but as time passes, the
bulbs dim with death and eventually burn out. Summer is coming, the season of getting old, when hair
is damaged by chlorine in the blue pools and skin grows pale underneath the outlines of swimsuits and
t shirts stick to the sweating backs of the working people. The sun from last year had already made the
white walls pale enough to leave outlines of frames hung up, artwork and photos from the years
permanently engrained into the room. As the room sleeps, the walls sweat, and the floors sigh under

She looks up at him in surprise, then back down, pulling the morning paper from underneath the pile
of mail. She turns to the front page, thumbing through the newspaper, not really reading, not really
there. Myrtle can hear Carter s steady chewing, and out of the corner of her eye, she watches him
break off pieces of the cookie. His engagement ring is golden and twinkling, hers is somewhere in the
bathroom.
Myrtle sets the paper down suddenly and clears her throat. I don t want the blue car, she says.
Well, Carter says, sighing and taking a timid sip from his glass. He licks the rim to keep a drop from
rolling down the side of the glass and places it carefully in the center of the cork coaster. It s my
decision.
Myrtle almost laughs. No, she corrects. It s our decision.
Carter stares at her for a moment, a look of warning, testing her. He sighs again, looking back down
and picking off another piece of cookie. His eyes calm. Until we re married, he begins, it s not our
decision. It s

Rita Cosby Short Story
After Rita had convinced her father to reveal the story, she was able to comprehend the tragic ordeals
that her father had experienced and had made him cold and distant all those years. She found that her
father had witnessed his hometown in Poland being bombed at a young age of thirteen. He had lied
about his age to join the resistance group that fought their enemies. He was then captured together
with his mates and were imprisoned in Germany. Where after some time they were able to escape and
were rescued by the American troops. All of this took place while he was still a teenager. Later on,
Rita and his father visited Poland for the first time since world war II. After coming to terms with the
whole story, Rita and her father formed a very deep bond that can never be broken. Moreover, Rita
Cosby has many agonizing tragedies, but there are specific moments that are deeply piercing and
heartbreaking. It is really disturbing to see Rita s father grew up in a war zone city known as Warsaw.
He vividly witnessed the bombing of a town he called his home, at only thirteen years old. He saw
indescribable horrific events happening in the Jewish ghetto, a small town that was only a few miles
away from his house (R. Cosby). When the Germans invaded Warsaw, everything in that city was
destroyed. And as if that was not enough, the Soviets also invaded the same city from the east. This
left the people of Warsaw with nothing, all they had to do was to escape. They were oppressed by the

Recommendation Analysis
The usability testing for PowerTeacher s Gradebook indicated that the interface is lacking in some
basic usability features such as learnability, ease of use, feedback and memorability. The study
findings suggest many usability issues related to creating new assignments, entering comments,
manually overwrite grades, and generating reports within the school information system which are
potentially impeding a teacher s capacity to efficiently execute routine classroom management tasks,
at least the time frame in which these tasks are completed. This is especially a problem for novice or
intermediate teachers, and essentially teachers who do not ample planning time, as they are occupied
with multiple functions and responsibilities. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also more than one + buttons are on the assignment screen; therefore a user may not know which one
to use after reading the steps in the Help File.
4. Simplify the steps, and make more visible the option to include a teacher s signature line when
generating reports. Including a Signature Line on a report is a frequent task by users, hence should not
have to manipulate several options to locate it. Currently, the user have to manipulate several steps to
find the signature line, this can be time consuming and frustrating, especially for a novice user or
intermediate user, which was the case during the observation.
5. Simplify the steps to generate reports. Currently to generate a final grade and verification report
requires the user to complete approximately 10 steps. A user generating five successive reports must
chose an incorrect reporting period before the correct one can be selected. For example, the first report
for year, year one is selected, then the second report for quarter 4, another period such as quarter 1
must be selected and then go back and select quarter 4 before the quarter 4 report can be generated.
This is time consuming and reduces the memorability of the Interface.
6. Add more examples to the Help File, for example how to enter grades so that it is not reflected in a
final grade. None of the three participants was able to locate the steps for this task using the Help File.

The Nature Of Face Processing Impairments
PY3003 Autistic Spectrum Disorders
What is the nature of face processing impairments in autism?
Student ID: 1310023
Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are
processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have
found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et
al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka,
2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed.
Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory
mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010).
Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls
could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people
process faces in a qualitatively different manner.
Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or
possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and
affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could
ameliorate these difficulties. Understanding of the deficits causes is only possible in the context of
typical face

Journal Submission Analysis
Journal Submission 1 A very painful and enduring time in my life was when I was fifteen years old
and my father told me that I would never succeed in school or college. Ever since then, I have always
felt that I could never be smart enough for college and that I would probably just fail all of my courses
that I had planned to study. If it was not for my mom, who highly supports me with going to college, I
probably would not be attending college this year. I think having other positive family members has
really helped me to overcome my fears of failing my classes in college and that I am smart enough to
succeed in college and my life.
Before we did the guided essay in class, I would often forget to gather ideas and develop my topic for
my written assignment and so my paper would often look unfinished because it did not have a
supporting topic. I also would not draft my papers because I thought drafting was a waste of time.
Most of the papers that I have written did not get a good grade because I didn t know how important it
was to know all of the rules of writing an assignment. But after doing the guided essay in class, I
realized that drafting and gathering ideas for a topic sentence can help you when doing a written

so that I can learn new writing skills in class so that I can hopefully, pass this class with a good grade.
Participating with the teacher, I believe is also important because the teachers can help you if you are

Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock And The Love Place Turnterm...
TAKEHOME MIDTERM EXAM
During the 20th century, the world would see unprecedented and innovative changes that would
entirely revolutionize everyday life. Wars caused people to lose faith in the stability of cultural and
social foundations which extended to instilling a nihilistic view throughout the art community.
Technology would profoundly change western culture by promoting an underlying theme of breaking
away from established history and practices. Searching to create a clear disconnect from 19th century
Victorianism museum like quality of art, authors such as T.S. Elliot, Bertolt Brecht, and Jorge Borges
estrange audiences by fragmenting the structure and perspective of their works. A common theme
among 20th century writers, and artists in general is to create an overall disorienting and self reflecting
experience through the development and application of a variety of innovative techniques throughout
their works. By alienating their audiences, artists at the dawn of the 20th century were able to distance
themselves from the notion that art was bound to a general public purpose. Despite the diversity, early
20th century writers tend to focus and develop methods of exploring the theme of the individual in
society.
T.S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock reflects the feelings of emasculation experienced by
many men as they returned home from World War I to find women empowered by their new role as
breadwinners. In the same way that Eliot explores the theme

Determining If Hess Law Works In A Demonstration Of Four...
Hess Law Lab Report
The purpose of the experiment is to determine if Hess Law works in a laboratory experiment
consisting of four different reactions. During the first reaction, cold water was placed into a
calorimeter and continually mixed with a stir bar. Hot water was then added into the calorimeter while
the probe recorded the temperature readings throughout the reaction. The temperature change was then
used to find the specific heat of the calorimeter. The same process was used in the second, third, and
fourth reactions of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, ammonium chloride and sodium
hydroxide, and ammonia and hydrochloric acid respectively in order to determine the heats of
reaction.

General Model Of Planned Change
1. What is the General Model of Planned Change?
The general model of planned change was established by Kurt Lewis and it serves as a blueprint for
organizations to follow during times of change. The general model of planned change consists of three
simple steps. The first step in this process is unfreezing, during this phase the object is to reduce
forces and maintain organizational behavior at its current level. The second phase is moving, which
involves shifting the behavior within the company to a new level. Thirdly, refreezing is the last step in
the process this stage is about the stabilization within the company at a new state of equilibrium. The
general model of planned change consists of four different phases or activities. The four different
stages are entering and contracting, diagnosing, planning and implementing, and evaluating and
institutionalizing. All of the above activities are the different stages that a company undergoes to
ensure that planned change happens in an effective manner.
2. Who created the General Model of Planned Change?
There have been many theories pertaining to planned and unplanned change in the marketplace.
However, one of the original models for planned changed was created by Kurt Lewin. Kurt Lewin was
born on September 9, 1890, in Germany and he died in February 12, 1947. German born American
social psychologist known for his field theory of behavior, which holds that human behavior is a

Communication in Euthanasia of an Animal Essay
It is important that communication is part of a euthanasia. In most cases clients pets are a large part of
their life, they would want it to be stress free and painless for there animals ending. The decision that
the clients have to make to get to this stage is usually hard for them so it is crucial that they are clear
on how a euthanasia takes place and the possible after effects. This is so that the client is not disturbed
if any unfortunate movements happen once the animal has passed away.
Also communication in this situation will give the client a feeling that they are in safe hands and that
the veterinarian knows what they are doing when is comes to making the last parts of their pets life as

For example if you are in a happy mood and your excited, but you start to talk about a sad subject in
an excited tone this can be confusing and taken in the wrong context.
Different religions have different views on animals as a whole. When referring to religion in line with
euthanasia some religions wouldn t allow euthanasia of an animal because of the possible side effects
on reincarnation when another human passes away. This is in eastern
religions(Buddhism,Hinduism,Jainism), a value is given to the animals life so that if any cruelty or
euthanasia could potentially harm another human when it comes to incarnation. Most Christianity
nations perceive animals as a possession. So any kind of cruelty/ damage to there possession is not
tolerated. Animals are widely kept through out this religion and are seen to be a big part of many
Christian families. In religions such as Muslim religion some certain animals are refereed to as
unclean animals, this is animals such as the pig and dog. This is why some Muslim families keep dogs
but they will not be allowed in the house they will be outside as a working dog or used to guard the
premiss.
When dealing with a client is is important to take in to consideration their religious beliefs when it
comes to treating there animal, this may mean that some types of treatment that may need to be given
cant be due to the religious beliefs. This would then mean

Elements Of Democracy In Colonial America
Maya Bateau
It s is surprising that Colonial America had any democratic features. This is surprising because they
lived in a British monarchy. They lived their lives having other people (Kings, Queens, and royal
advisors) control their government actions. Some democratic feature they contained was a democratic
government and human rights. One democratic feature is system of government. In Virginia they had
the House Of Burgesses. Individual were chosen by the colonists to make laws. Eventually each
colony will have a legislator. (Document 3) This shows a democratic government by coming together
to make laws. This is different because they are from a monarchy. Associating with the House Of

The Music And Arts Program
On Monday, April 18, 2016, I observed a School Board Meeting at Chenango Valley School District at
7:00 PM. The room was congested with a numerous amount of people that varied in age. The board
members that were present were: Mr. David P. Gill, Superintendent, Mrs. Elizabeth Dicosimo,
Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Stuart Elliott, President, Mr. Joel Luchun, Vice President, Mr. Jason
Aurelio, Mr. Steve Carr, Mr. John P. Hussar, Mrs. Christine Lomonaco, Mrs. Michelle Porterfield
Wilson, Mrs. Kelly Warwick, Mrs. Susan Cirba, District Clerk, and Mrs. Elizabeth Donahue, Business
Executive. The main topics that were discussed were the music and arts program being cut in half,
updated information on the school districts from principals, and the French Exchange Program.
During my observation, I noticed that the board members were not very responsive. At first, the
environment was very uncomfortable and the meeting felt very unorganized. As the meeting continued
and others took over, the meeting became friendlier and more welcoming. When the public was
speaking on behalf of the music program at the school, the board members were not allowed to
respond to what was being addressed. Mr. Elliott opened the floor to the public to comment and
address any concerns or issues. During this time, he read everything off of a script and had a very rude
tone when speaking. Once parents and students expressed their concern of cutting the music and arts
program, Mr. Elliott seemed very annoyed and

  • 2. Jaws Short Monologue Analysis Patrick Cassells Ms. Ballard Period One October 5th 2014 Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone chilling fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws. You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know how many men, they averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was maybe eleven when I first watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his experience in the waters of the Atlantic, dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. Indianapolis has always instilled fear and awe in me. Awe and fear towards sharks. So what s it called when something instills a feeling of awe in a person? Well, it means that that thing is awesome. So that must mean that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this day, many of us still see them this way. In fact, coastal states stared to host shark culling events. In these sometime month long events, a state government will pay any fishermen to bring in a freshly killed shark generous amounts of money. Peter Benchley, the author of Jaws doesn t support shark culling, he in fact helped raise awareness about sharks becoming endangered. He wrote articles about how misunderstood sharks are (Benchley, Peter). This is now illegal in the United States, but is still practiced in countries such as Japan and Australia. Even in those countries, shark culling is on its way out. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Origins Of The Chubb Corporation Essay Corporate Overview The origins of the Chubb Corporation date back to 1882 when Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son Percy opened their marine underwriting business in the seaport district of New York City. Having collected $1,000 from each of 100 prominent merchants to start their venture, they focused initially on insuring ships and cargoes. The Chubb s were adept at turning risk into success, often by helping their policyholders prevent disasters before they occurred. By the turn of the century, Chubb had established strong relationships with the insurance agents and brokers who placed their clients business with Chubb underwriters. Chubb Son did not value size in itself but regarded it as a measure of what had been achieved. Upon the Company s 75th anniversary in 1957, Hendon Chubb who had joined his older brother Percy in the firm in 1895 noted, I think there is perhaps a tendency in American business to overemphasize mere size, whereas to me it should be a by product of a job well done. Mission Statement: CHUBB s mission statement explains that The Chubb mission is to provide excellent services to its customers throughout their life. This corporation demonstrates it by offering various numbers of services in the insurance industry. They do not only focus in one specific area of their customers, but instead broad their services to any kind of problem that might come through the way of their customers. • 4. The Collapse of the Westgate Bridge, Located in Melbourne,... This report goes into detail the collapse of the Westgate Bridge, located in Melbourne, Australia. What was meant to be a bridge that joined two sides of the city of Melbourne, lead to Australia s worst workplace disaster in history, with a death toll of 35. Included in this report is a history of the planning of the bridge, the events that lead to the collapse, as well as the collapse itself and how it happened. Also covered are the ethical issues portrayed by the companies working on the construction of the Westgate Bridge. I. INTRODUCTION On the 15th October, 1970, during its third year of construction, the Westgate Bridge collapsed killing 35 men. The section of the bridge that collapsed was a 128 meter span that was being worked on at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new contractors were very experienced at working with concrete, but lacked the knowledge and experience with working with steel. Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on the basis of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the engineering decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and lack of communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four months prior to the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners, collapsed in Milford Haven, Wales, killing four workers. Understandably, there was a lot of industrial unrest on the construction site of the Westgate Bridge, although workers had been assured by Freeman Fox Partners that the design of the Westgate was perfectly safe, but was not supported by any relevant or sufficient calculations. IV.THE COLLAPSE During the construction, two half spans being assembled 50 meters above ground level had a misalignment of 4.5 inches or 114mm in camber. It was suggested by John Holland Constructions to use a kentledge to weigh down the higher section of bridge. It so happened that they had ten, eight tonne concrete blocks on site. These were placed halfway along the higher span to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The World s Overpopulation Problem Essay Have you ever wondered what earth would be like in the near future with over 10 billion people from 7 billion? A newspaper source from Population Peril states that there are 210,000 new people everyday and by 2050 that there will be roughly 9.6 billion people (McClatchy). How are we going to prevent the disastrous measure of pollution, diseases, extinction of resources, more poverty, people and etc.? As the world s overpopulation problem should be changed to prevent future severe issues. First off, the proponent states that the one future major problem that will ineffably get worse is epidemic or outbreaks of disease and viruses. The more people on earth the higher chance diseases will evolve and travel faster. As Keiji Fukuda, then the assistant director general for health security at the World Health Organization (WHO), said in 2013, The world is not ready for a large, severe outbreak. (Angell). Some new and old epidemic diseases that will get worse with more people is Zika (mosquito), Cholera (sewage), Ebola, SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), and MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome). Another virus is the bird flu that is even a further severe disease problem as well as anything airborne. The New York Times, Michael T. Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, wrote, Even more than these viruses, we should be afraid of a planet wide catastrophe caused by influenza. • 6. What Is A Reflection In Strategic Leadership A reflection in Strategic Leadership Before coming to USAWC I think that my experience and knowledge gained during the twenty five years of service is an important quality to possess. At one point I thought: A few years until retirement, and probably no special secrets for me to discover during the academic year. I can only confirm existing knowledge, gained some new and meet an interesting people before returning home . Much to my surprise, already after the first reading and discussion at the seminar, I realize that this will be more interesting than I had hoped. The first lessons were related to leadership and I was wondering what s new here. I thought I knew a theory about leadership. After all, I am an author of a document about the leadership in SAF. But, the first readings, seminar dialogues and discussions are shedding new light on my thinking about leadership in general, my knowledge and experience, traits, values and shortcomings. Thanks to the readings and discussions in outstanding environment I become aware of what one colonel told to me: This is going to be the best year of your career . It looks like he s going to be right. Next academic year is a great opportunity for me to build strategic leadership competencies and achieve outcomes of USAWC s curriculum. According to given task and my aspiration in the future, I will attempt to express my reflection in two of four mission specific outcomes based on GEN Powell s autobiography: strategic leaders and ... • 7. The Impact Of Unemployment On Aboriginal And Torres Strait... One social determinant that impacts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is unemployment. According to the Australian Census in 2011, 56% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in Australia were participating in the labour force, however, 17.2% of this population were unemployed but seeking employment (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2013). Comparing these numbers to the non indigenous population, the percentage of the indigenous population in the labour force is significantly lower than non indigenous Australians, with a difference of 20.5% (ABS, 2013). Through my learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, it was mentioned that most indigenous people were unemployed or experienced poverty, the statistics allowed me to put these statements into perspective. Upon learning this I felt quite shocked and alarmed at the high rates of people that were not working or even trying to find work. It gave me a better understanding of how seeking employment for indigenous people may be a stressful and daunting process. But it also made me think on how unemployment can affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that being unemployed for a prolonged period may be a detriment to physical and mental health due to overwhelming stress. The idea of unemployment being detrimental to health correlates with Pharr s (2012) and Janlert s (2014) researches on the impact of unemployment on mental and physical health. Both concluded similarly that people who have been unemployed for prolonged period have poor mental health compared to the employed, Pharr (2012) also stated that unemployed people are hesitant to receive medical treatment for physical health due to cost. • 8. Themes Of Marigolds And Miss Brill Sometimes one has to go through alienation and isolation to reach a transformation. In both Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier and Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, the characters transform majorly due to their feelings of isolation. Marigolds is about a woman called Lizabeth recalling her coming of age experience and Miss Brill is about a lonely woman living in a fantasy life that she has created for herself. The theme of alienation and a definitive transformation is evident in both stories. In Marigolds, the theme of alienation is not as noticeable as in Miss Brill, but still appears throughout the story. It first starts in the beginning of the story when the author uses I repeatedly in the first paragraph. The author echoes the authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miss Brill created a fantasy life to escape her lonely one and is heartbroken when she is brought back to reality. In the first paragraph, the fox fur is almost like a friend to her. She treated it as though it is still alive referring to it as a dear little thing! (Mansfield para 1). She is constantly alone but always manages to make herself feel oppositely. Every Sunday, while walking alone at the park, she witnesses what she call a play .. She is always listening as though she didn t listen and sitting in other people s lives just for a minute while they talked round her, (Mansfield para 3). Miss Brill considers herself part of the play and that even she had a part and came every Sunday (Mansfield para 19). No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she was part of the play after all (Mansfield para 19). However, she is devastated when the only thing she considers herself to be attached to, her fur, is insulted by the girl. She went home that day, alone like always, and quickly put down her fur lining back into the box as she heard someone crying (Mansfield para 18). • 9. 1.8 Connection Connections Report 1.8 Connections The theme of love connection between people is a very important part of life. I choose this theme as it is a very relevant and relatable subject for many people in our society. The four texts I chose were: the fictional novel Delirium , by Lauren Oliver, the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift, song Same Love by Macklemore and fictional novel Girl Online , by Zoe Sugg. There was a strong connection of love between two people in all of these texts. The first text that I looked at that showed the connection of love was Delirium. This novel discusses the connection of love. Love is the main theme of this novel. The main character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and discusses equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect. This song has a different view on the connection of love compared to other books with the theme of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I believe that there should be equality on who you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t be used with such negative connotations, and I m sure many others in our society would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Pros And Cons Of Student Loan Fraud Student Loan Fraud In February, 2017, the United States District Court in Florida entered a final judgement in a civil trial against FastTrain College, a for profit college chain, for falsifying documents used to defraud the Department of Education of more than $12 million (Office of Inspector General, 2017). The owner, Alejandro Amor, and the school falsified documents to receive federal funding through the Federal Pell Grant Program, the Federal Direct Loan Program, the Federal Family Education Loan Program, among others which provide federal assistance to students. The school used predatory practices to entice non eligible prospective student to lie on their federal student loan applications to receive federal funding, most of which went directly to the school and Amor. • 11. My Ethnographic Research On The Restaurant Sweet Tomatoes... When going out to eat, we don t observe the workers of the restaurant we re at. We become focused on our friends, our order, and even the people around the restaurant. Sure we talk with the server or smile at an employee when eye contact is made, but we never really observe how the community in the restaurants we go to are like. I want people to be informed that in order for the restaurant to be great, it all starts with its workers. These blue collar workers are the shadows when it comes to restaurant research, however they are more interesting than one would usually think. To allow people to gain more knowledge on this, I decided to do my ethnographic research on the community of restaurant workers, more specifically the community within the restaurant Sweet Tomatoes. I have been part of the community for almost three years and have been able to interact with all kinds of people that have worked there. I want people to know what goes on behind the kitchen doors and understand how the workers interact when the environment becomes stressful or relaxed, so they understand how the setting influences the employees. To receive the best possible outcome in this observation study, I decided to examine and write things down on days that I was off. I went in for about an hour and observed how the employees interacted with guests and each other. I frequented the restaurant on busy days as well as slow ones to convey if the pace of the restaurant also affected the employees. Instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Gender Stereotypes In Television Commercials Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Television Commercials. Liuyi Bian University of Florida Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in gender portrayal in children s television commercials. The hypothesis that stated, if an observed television program is determined to be intended for girls, then the colors used in the commercials would be predominantly intended for girls, is strongly supported. To do content analysis, we first gathered a sample of 50 television commercials aired on children s television channels between 8 to 10 PM, then we coded each of the predictor and criterion variables and conducted a chi square test. Our results indicate that most girl oriented television programs presented commercials that incorporated girl stereotypical colors. Furthermore, girls are often associated with bright and pastel colors while boys are associated more with neutral colors. Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Commercials Introduction Upon birth, everyone is acknowledged as either male or female. Excluding physical characteristics, men and women are often separated into two ends of a spectrum. Yet instead of a clearly divided line, what separates the two is in fact common societal standards and beliefs; these include cultural and gender norms and stereotypes. Who established these supposed universal standards , and in what other ways were they introduced to the general public? One of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an admirable trait that they have been able to keep their culture for thousands of years because they don t believe that other cultures are superior to theirs. At the age of three months, Lia had her first epilepsy attack. The condition was not hereditary since none of the other children of the Lees had epilepsy. In what ways did reservations destroy Native American cultures, and in what ways did reservations foster tribal identities? Be sure to account for patterns of change and consistency over time. When one hears the word relocation , I assume, they think of taking one thing exactly as it was and placing it in a different location, but placing it as it was and with the same resources. Relocation is a loaded term because before the word relocation came about settlers of early America were forcefully pushing native peoples off their homelands; they just didn t have the term relocation . The whole point of the meeting was to come to an agreement over disputes of land claims between colonies and Indian nations including the Iroquois. Though, through trickery, the Iroquois had ceded to the colonies land from sea to sea .2(p. 187) This meant land from the Ohio Valley all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Needless to say the Indians involved were disappointed and angered. The Royal Proclamation was the next advancement in the idea of relocation. The Royal Proclamation, made by the British, was an intangible line drawn to separate Indian lands from colonial lands. This was made to please the Indians, but also served as a way to contain and control its own peoples within the colonies. I point this out as a step towards relocation because, one of the first steps is: knowing where something can be moved from and then moved to. When a solid border is made of land that is known, by all parties involved, of whose is whose, then half of the process is accomplished. I mean by this: if the party, not yet aware of possibly being moved again, they will not try to occupy what the other party has defined as their lands because there is the belief that the same will be reciprocated from the latter party. Therefore, not as much attention is needed by the British to defend the land that is understood to be in possession of the British, and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1950 s Scene Analysis Both films throughout contain ample voice over from the father character about his experience with the engagement and wedding preparation, however in these parallel sequences the voice overs are not used to the same extent nor to the same end. Neither scene contains any sound besides dialogue and voice over, and the 1950 scene only uses one instance of voice over throughout. The aforementioned line about lying is the only exclusive insight into Stanley s experience, and although this could imply that the behavior he shows following this is dishonest it seems more so to be a nod to the stakes of a successful first impression. Other moments in the 1991 version use closer framing than the 1950 version in a way that hones in on what specifically is bothering George in moments with multiple characters interacting. Keeping the audience in the loop with him as the pace and cutting move quickly creates a feeling of being dragged into this along with him. The cultural context in 1950 has an audience that is not only accustomed to a straight forward method of filming compared to more modern traditions of intensified continuity (Bordwell 121), but is also more likely to see reason in Stanley s point of view without needing to be presented it from as many methods as in 1991. A father grappling with no longer having the final word in his (albeit young) daughter s decision making makes sense within an older social context, and Stanley comes off as lenient and loving as he works past his apprehensions to support her. Taking this storyline entirely at face value and presenting it with the same style would not have the same effect for the 1991 adaptation, and so not only does the film add narrative changes to what is suspicious about the engagement, the formal elements consistently stay aligned with George in a manner that keeps the audience conscious of what is drawing his responses. Insight into what bothers him and what appeases him about the whole process, and formal depiction of the extent of his genuine concern, make his story read heartwarming as well. The remake can retain the heart of the original story largely through the effect of contemporary filming practices that guide attention, and in doing so in this film give the audience the right understanding of the roundabout paths these fathers take to lovingly support their ... Classification of the genus Homo into species and subspecies remains poorly defined and subject to incomplete information, leading to difficulties in binomial naming, and the use of common names, such as Neanderthal and Denisovan . With that being said, many people get a misunderstanding when discussing our homo ancestors. The biggest issue is knowing what a species are actually apart of the genus homo and who isn t. One of the first known hominids, it was nicknamed handy man by discoverer Louis Leakey due to its association with stone tools. Some scientists have proposed moving this species out of Homo and into Australopithecus due to the morphology of its skeleton being more adapted to living on trees rather than to moving on two legs like Homo sapiens. Homo rudolfensis findings in Kenya have been suggested to be Homo habilis, but scientists are unsure. The fossils found from these two species are said to be from about 1.8 million years ago. Homo georgicus, named after the country Georgia, is said to possibly be an intermediate form between Homo erectus and Homo habilis or a sub species of Homo erectus. Homo erectus lived from about 1.8 million to about 70,000 years ago. Many scientist believe that the early stages of erectus, about 1.8 to 1.2 million years ago, is a separate species called Homo ergaster, seen as a sub species of erectus. In the early Pleistocene, 1.5 1 Ma, in Africa some populations of Homo habilis are thought to have evolved more complex brains and made more elaborate stone tools; these differences and others are sufficient for anthropologists to classify them as a new species, Homo erectus. • 20. Argumentative Essay On Evolution Madison Wenig Mr. Kellerman Honors Biology 2 19 May 2017 Evolution There always has been a controversy whether evolution really did happen or not. Many evolutionists, philosophers and biologists have presented sufficient evidence that evolution is true. Yet there is still debate about this contentious topic. With the facts and findings of fossil records of earlier species, ideas of initial theorists, and our own genetics and DNA, evolution can be hard to prove wrong. Evolution is not just a change over time, but that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor. This process is occurring in our lives right now. What exactly is evolution? Evolution is the process through which the characteristics of organisms change over successive generations, by means of genetic variation . (What is evolution) Simply, descent with modification. Charles Darwin was the first person with the acceptable explanation of evolution. Although his theory gave forth too many tremendous advances, he did not build this theory on his own. He learned and built off earlier theorists, like Jean Baptiste Lamarck, who indorsed linear evolution . (evolution) As well as Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, with his concept of Scala Nature. These early theorists served as a foundation for Charles Darwin s theory. Although Darwin s theory was important, a greater attribution to evolution was founded. That is the uncovering of fossils. Student ID: 1310023 Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka, 2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed. Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010). Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people process faces in a qualitatively different manner. Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could ameliorate these difficulties. TAKEHOME MIDTERM EXAM During the 20th century, the world would see unprecedented and innovative changes that would entirely revolutionize everyday life. Wars caused people to lose faith in the stability of cultural and social foundations which extended to instilling a nihilistic view throughout the art community. Technology would profoundly change western culture by promoting an underlying theme of breaking away from established history and practices. Searching to create a clear disconnect from 19th century Victorianism museum like quality of art, authors such as T.S. Elliot, Bertolt Brecht, and Jorge Borges estrange audiences by fragmenting the structure and perspective of their works. A common theme among 20th century writers, and artists in general is to create an overall disorienting and self reflecting experience through the development and application of a variety of innovative techniques throughout their works. By alienating their audiences, artists at the dawn of the 20th century were able to distance themselves from the notion that art was bound to a general public purpose. Despite the diversity, early 20th century writers tend to focus and develop methods of exploring the theme of the individual in society. T.S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. • 31. General Model Of Planned Change 1. What is the General Model of Planned Change? The general model of planned change was established by Kurt Lewis and it serves as a blueprint for organizations to follow during times of change. The general model of planned change consists of three simple steps. The first step in this process is unfreezing, during this phase the object is to reduce forces and maintain organizational behavior at its current level. The second phase is moving, which involves shifting the behavior within the company to a new level. Thirdly, refreezing is the last step in the process this stage is about the stabilization within the company at a new state of equilibrium. The general model of planned change consists of four different phases or activities. The four different stages are entering and contracting, diagnosing, planning and implementing, and evaluating and institutionalizing. All of the above activities are the different stages that a company undergoes to ensure that planned change happens in an effective manner. 2. Who created the General Model of Planned Change? When referring to religion in line with euthanasia some religions wouldn t allow euthanasia of an animal because of the possible side effects on reincarnation when another human passes away. This is in eastern religions(Buddhism,Hinduism,Jainism), a value is given to the animals life so that if any cruelty or euthanasia could potentially harm another human when it comes to incarnation. Most Christianity nations perceive animals as a possession. So any kind of cruelty/ damage to there possession is not tolerated. The main topics that were discussed were the music and arts program being cut in half, updated information on the school districts from principals, and the French Exchange Program. During my observation, I noticed that the board members were not very responsive. At first, the environment was very uncomfortable and the meeting felt very unorganized. As the meeting continued and others took over, the meeting became friendlier and more welcoming. When the public was speaking on behalf of the music program at the school, the board members were not allowed to respond to what was being addressed. Mr. Elliott opened the floor to the public to comment and address any concerns or issues. During this time, he read everything off of a script and had a very rude tone when speaking. Once parents and students expressed their concern of cutting the music and arts program, Mr. Elliott seemed very annoyed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
