Psychology Case Study Mason Jones
Mason Jones is a three and a half year old preschool student whom struggles with several
developmental delays. The most prominent of Mason s delays appear to be his speech and social
development. In addition, Mason s gross and fine motor skills are not progressing appropriately for a
child his age as well. Mason is currently placed in a two and a half year old preschool program
although he will be turning four years old in August. Mason is the oldest of his classmates; however,
that is not apparent due to his developmental delays. Unfortunately, a major challenge for Mason and
his family is the fact that his parents are not in agreement with one another. Mason s mother has stated
that she will take whatever means necessary to accommodate her ... Show more content on

Plastic Surgery Becomes More Popular
As time progresses, plastic surgery becomes more popular. Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV
and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast
enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or
repairing parts of the body. (Reconstructive Surgery) The facelift Kris Jenner recently just had done is
equally considered plastic surgery as an ordinary person getting an extra finger removed. These are
both types of plastic surgery, but they re treated completely differently. A woman who gets cosmetic
surgery gets scorned for getting the procedure done, yet the person who went in to remove their extra
finger does not. In reality, these issues are quite similar. Plastic surgery is often the last resort for those
who want to desperately change how they look; those who get plastic surgery done are quickly judged
for doing so; however, both men and women should consider the reasons why a person might want
plastic surgery; the reasons behind this may be deeper than one thought. Those who get plastic surgery
get it for numerous reasons; one reason they get it done is for serious medical purposes. Those who
seek plastic surgery for medical purposes are doing it to fix abnormalities caused by accidents, birth
defects, and medical issues developed over time. An example of this would be a driver in a serious car
accident getting their finger ripped off by the force that hit them.

The Hostage Crisis
Iran hostage crisis
The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States. Fifty two US
citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981, after a group of
Islamic students and militants took over the Embassy of the United States in support of the Iranian
Revolution. Sixty six Americans were taken captive when Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy in
Tehran on November 4, 1979, including three who were at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Six more
Americans escaped and of the 66 who were taken hostage, 13 were released on November 19 and 20,
1979; one was released on July 11, 1980. Start 1953 coup In February 1979, less than a year before the

Announcing our objections from within the occupied compound would carry our message to the world

of the plan beforehand. The Islamist students had wanted to inform him but according to author Mark

would use police to expel the Islamist students as they had the last occupiers in February. The

The Chocolate War And An Absolute Diary Of A Part Time Indian
When people think about tribalism, they usually associate it with a strong possession of a cultural or
ethnical identity. Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which
people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative
perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time
Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian,
by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while
discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while
reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support,
but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an
individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being
an individual?
Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the
Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the
Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. Jerry is able to disturb the tribe and almost rally supporters behind
him, but it doesn t last very long and Jerry is singled out by the Vigils. Jerry had the football team as
his tribe early on before he was assigned to not sell the

Black-Footed Albatross
In the poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the Albatross makes a marvelous appearance as it carries
the wind on its backside in guiding a seemingly doomed ship through dangerous sea waters. This
poem alludes to the majestic beauty and unique qualities of the Albatross. Many century old legends
and myths are a product of the observations of the Albatross by sailors. Science has come a long way
in understanding the capabilities and nature of the Albatross. However, despite numerous publications
about this bird, none can quite explain the awe an observer feels when they first lay eyes on this
beautiful sea bird. The common name for the subject of this paper is the Albatross. It comes from the
family Diomedeidae and genus Diomededea. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a common issue that animal life is becoming more dependent on human intervention when it
comes to feeding. This is no different with the Albatross. The Albatross is a sea bird that will make
very long journeys consisting of .....flying for several thousand kilometers... (Lindsey 47). The
Albatross will spend a large portion of its life on the ocean so the question of its feeding strategy is a
popular topic since food is already scarce and widely distributed. These birds will often locate ships
and look for sustenance amongst the discarded food. Since it will normally feast on marine life, the
Albatross is a diurnal carnivore. It uses most of the day to feast on various marine life such as fish,
krill, squid, and crabs. There was a study conducted in 1994 by Peter Prince and his colleagues that
sought to understand how these birds were able to survive by fishing for sea creatures. Their results
were extraordinary, to say the least. Most Albatrosses will ...obtain food from the uppermost meter or
so of the ocean s surface... (Lindsey 49). However,

Essay on Children + Violence + Television = Bad
On September 11th, 2001, millions around the world crowded around televisions across the globe and
watched the horrific scenes of terrorism that had struck New York City, Washington, D.C and
Pennsylvania on that ill fated and now infamous morning. Suddenly, in a crowded room everyone felt
alone. As the Twin Towers vanished before our very eyes, so did our sense of security and protection.
We watched with shock and horror, disbelief and grief as the images were repeatedly flashed before
our eyes. There was no escape. Every television channel and every radio station constantly reminded
us of the tragedy that we will never forget. Even today, over three years later, I can see the images and
remember the desperate pleas for help of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s simply too depressing. Today s news stories are explicit enough to make adults cringe, leaving
children staggering. Images of injured, suffering, and the deceased often fill our television sets with
reality violence. The news, however, is not the only type of media violence affecting children.
Even family oriented cartoons such as the Looney Tunes starring household names such as Bugs
Bunny, Wildie Coyote, and the Road Runner portray a lot of violence. Unfortunately, these types of
violence are often rewarded with a laugh. While it may be comedic to adults, children are witnessing
acts of violence that happen without punishment. Many of these acts of violence would leave a person
greatly injured or dead, but in the cartoons the character on the screen is unaffected and ready to try
again in the next scene or segment. This clearly is not reality. Children do not have the ability and
understanding to grasp fictional television and reality.
Even as children grow out of cartoons, they are still entertained by violence. I grew up watching the
World Wrestling Federation (WWF) with my older brother and my step father, two people I looked up
to. I remember countless days of wrestling with my friends throughout my childhood in result of
watching the WWF. I did not understand how watching fake wrestling on television altered my reality
until I grew up and now watch some of cousin s children or neighborhood children wrestle and they
expect no one to get hurt, which is rarely

Violence Against Matthew Shepard Analysis
Many seem to see the violence against Matthew Shepard as a hate crime, which I agree with.
Everything pointed to, from testimonies to evidence, shows that he was attacked due to his sexual
orientation; however, the perpetrators, Aaron McKinney and Russel Henderson, didn t even know
Matt prior to the night of the incident, so how d they know if he was gay or not? They reacted to his
performance in a way that was consistent with their own learned gender performances. This theme of
prejudice was a crime fueled by hate, but facilitated by gender performance. The events seemed to be
documented through theatrical drama, though written in the style of a narrative that tries to present
itself as a true story, through tension. The way Kaufman builds

Lennie Quotes From Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men
Lennie old Lennie the great old Lennie. Lennie wants to own a rabbit farm. But there are some of
Lennie traits that I believe will make it a little bit of a struggle for Lennie. The traits that will hurt
Lennie the most are he does not like to talk, he is mentally challenged, childish and playful, also he is
very strong. These traits will harm Lennie in the long run because rabbits are small creatures and
could be harmed if he is too rough.
Lennie will be hurt in his dream of running a rabbit farm by not talking very much will be a challenge.
An example is, We just come in. Said George Let the big guy talk. Said Curley Lennie twisted his

they first get to the ranch and Curley is questioning George and Lennie. Being quiet will hurt him
because it will be hard for him to negotiate a deal for him to buy the rabbits he wants. If he has no

Baboon Research Paper
Baboons also called dog faced monkeys, are an old world monkey of the genus Papio, belonging to
the family Cercopithecinae. There are five species of baboons that live across Africa and Arabia. They
inhabit a wide array of climates but favor savannas and other semi arid habitats even though some live
in tropical forests. Baboon s travel in hierarchical groups called troops. Columbia Electronic
Encyclopedia says, most species travel in groups of 40 to 80, which are socially based on a core of
females and may include several transient males but there is variation between types of baboons. This
essay will cover baboon s daily life, vocal communication, and social behavior with respect to their
ability to handle environmental stressors. There are two types of baboons the savanna baboon,
chacma, olive, yellow, and Guinea baboons. They live, as their name would suggest in the tropical
grasslands of the North African savanna. The second type is the hamadryas baboon, which lives in the

This study showed that the call structure of primates is largely unaffected by the species social system
(including grouping patterns and social interactions), while the usage of calls can be more flexibly
adjusted, reflecting the quality of social interactions of the individuals (Maciej et al). This shows that
they did not have more vocal communication but the vocal communication that they did have could be
of a higher quality then most other primates. This lack of variation among the taxa is compatible with
the assumption that evolutionary constraints play an important role limiting the flexibility in the
structure of nonhuman primate vocalizations (Maciej et al). Evolution has caused the vocal variation

Making a change in a person s life can be exciting. Visiting a new country, moving to a new house,

Gladiatorial Protection and Battles
Posters hung of these gladiators upcoming battles and tallies were posted of these individual gladiators
records. Gladiatorial battles truly morphed into a game to the audience, as fans placed bets on who
would win each battle. These gladiators were no longer looked at as human beings, but rather as
bodies in a blood battle. These battles were so gruesome in order to entertain and appease the large
audiences. The gladiators went to all costs when it came to the arena battles, and even created their
own fighting styles in order to make the battles more interesting. I had no idea that gladiatorial battles
were such an art, and that there were so many gladiatorial fighting styles implemented. Gladiators
were armed with various weapons and had different fighting techniques. Some gladiators rode into the
arena on horseback, known as equites , as a scare tactic before he fought his opponent. Others carried
large shields that covered their entire bodies for protection, known as murmillo s , while some
gladiators carried small shields that covered only their torso so they were better able to move around.
1 The picture below shows some of the other types of gladiators and the armor they wore for battle.
(Figure 2)3 There is much debate over which type of gladiatorial protection was better suited to help
win the battles. Many argued that gladiators with more armor and weapons were better equipped to
win because they had more protection from fatal blows. Others argued that the

Standards-Based Grading Analysis
Standards based grading is a movement that is gaining ground in education which involves measuring
students proficiency on well defined course objectives (p. 70). The author is a high school math
teacher who took three years to implement standards based grading in the classroom. The article
describes seven reasons for replacing a point based system with a standards based one. The seven
reasons discussed were that grades should have meaning, challenging of the status quo, we can control
grading policies, reduces meaningless paperwork, helps teachers adjust instruction, it teaches what
quality looks like, and it s a Launchpad to other reforms. Standards based grading is something that I
knew very little about other than the set criteria that grade schools have evaluated my own children
on. The only real thought I had on the subject was how would those standards based grades transfer
over to what colleges needed on transcripts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author showed to versions of a gradebook where one was a traditional and the other was standards
based. The regular gradebook shows scores and places a value for what the student earned but does
not show what the students knows. The standards based gradebook shows a teacher how each student
is doing on a particular skill/standard and allows the teacher to evaluate their teaching based on how
students are achieving on standards. Critical concepts are not assumed learned. As a principal, driving
teachers to use data in their classroom allows for easy interpretation of standards based grades. I will
not be an expert on every subject taught in a school, however I can look at a gradebook like this and
see areas that a teacher could work on to improve instruction. As students show early mastery of skills,
they can work on more challenging levels of work that would be higher in Blooms

Influences of Fear in What s Eating Away At Gilbert Grape...
Fear influences the way humans react and the actions that transpire. Some embrace the feeling of fear;
others try to overcome obstacles that fear creates. Sometimes, fear stimulates a strong response of self
isolation to shield one s mind from accepting emotion. This response, however, can manifest into an
extreme nature, creating the personality that Gilbert Grape exhibits. Peter Hedges clearly
communicates the fact that Gilbert underwent a transformation and his personality reflects the change.
The transformation not only causes Gilbert to become conflicted with expressing his feelings, but he
fears the guilt of doing so as well. Gilbert struggles with his family controlling his opinions, emotions
and actions. Peter Hedges illustrates the crippling nature of fear in What s Eating Gilbert Grape.
Gilbert becomes emotionally isolated due to his fear of judgment. The relationship between Gilbert
and his family strained by the fear to act and the reality of his life creates the alienated personality
readers see. Throughout What s Eating Gilbert Grape, examples of his fear of judgment crippling him
begin to surface. Gilbert says, Something is not right about all this food going to my house. Something
is wrong inside me, I start to think, but I change the subject (112). Gilbert desperately wants to express
on how food negatively affects his whole family, especially himself. However, readers see that Gilbert
cannot even argue with himself, demonstrating how fear really plays

Physiological needs. These are the needs which people cannot live without. So these needs are

water, food, shelter etc.
Safety needs. Safety needs are the needs which people want for their own. Example in jobs people

Evaluating The Merits And Demerits Of Fixed And Floating...
Evaluate the merits and demerits of fixed and floating exchange rate regimes. Provide examples to
support your arguments. I. Intro Floating exchange rates and fixed exchange rates each provide
distinct advantages and disadvantages for a given regime. In any given state of the global economy,
one given country may be better suited for one system. But there are a number of factors that influence
this, and there is therefore no universal correct system for all international economies. I will discuss
the merits and demerits of a floating exchange rate, providing the examples of the US Government
response to the 2008 financial crisis and the excessive speculation that led to the 1929 stock market
crash. These examples will illustrate a time when the US economy benefitted due to a floating
exchange rate and a time when the US economy suffered due to a floating exchange rate. I will then
provide a similar analysis for the fixed exchange rate using the same example of the dangers of
speculation regarding the 1929 financial crash and the emerging market crisis of Argentina in 2001. As
mentioned before, there is no universal solution to the monetary policy governing exchange rates. A
general rule, however, is that floating exchange rates provide a country with more adaptability and
independence in fluctuating international economic circumstances. But they can lead to instability,
needlessly expansionary policy and excessive speculation. Fixed exchange rates, in contrast, are

The Role Of Women s Suffrage In The United States
Women, for a long time, were one of the most undervalued assets essential to life in the late 1800s and
early 1900s. Throughout recorded history, women have been treated as less than men. They have been
viewed as simply a vessel for reproduction or a maid to do housework and prepare meals for her
husband. In many ancient cultures and some cultures today women are viewed merely as possessions.
Surprisingly, women were even oppressed in the United States, which was founded upon freedom and
equality. Women have been struggling to shed the chains of motherhood and be recognized as equal
human beings for as long as written records have been around. The unequal treatment of women was
often based on religion or tradition. The United States did not ... Show more content on

is supposed to be the breadwinner of the family, while the woman oversees all the household duties.
People latched onto this idea which meant if you attacked that idea, you were attacking their religious
beliefs. What these people did not take into consideration is that when the Bible was written times
were different. When using historical accounts to develop ones beliefs you must take into
consideration that life may not be the same as it was when the event occurred. In Bible times, every
society was one hundred percent agrarian. This means when the Bible talks about men being
responsible for all the work and providing for his family, it is referring to the physical labor that must
go into producing food and running a farm. The Bible, for the most part, just divides the work of
having a family based on individual strengths. Men are biologically inclined to be physically stronger
and women are biologically inclined to nurture and be more gentle. The division of the work in that
way made sense during ancient times. The Bible does not say that women absolutely cannot do work
if they want to. It certainly does not encourage discrimination of women who do

Smoking Facts
Smoking in today s world is much different then what it used to be. The thoughts of smoking have
changed from good to bad. Many people believe that smoking is beneficial for their everyday lives
while others want nothing to do with it. In this paper I will be discussing the: the history of smoking,
the advantages/benefits of smoking, the disadvantages/risks of smoking, the components of cigarettes,
and the regulations regarding the production and sale of cigarettes. Tobacco is a plant that grows
natively in North and South America. It is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous
nightshade, a very deadly plant (Randall, 1999, p. 1). American Indians used tobacco in many
different ways, mainly for religious purposes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
R. Reynolds also expands their brands buying Nabisco, who is famous for the popular cookie Oreo,
and becoming RJR/Nabisco. In 1990 Ben and Jerry Ice Cream boycotts RJR/Nabisco and drops Oreos
from its ice cream goods. Even though we are told the negative sides of tobacco many do not tell us if
there are any advantages of smoking. The tobacco plant has more to offer then just a certain death.
Tobacco may provide a different relief or prevention for some diseases in certain individuals. The
most recognized health benefit of smoking is its ability to seemingly improve symptoms of mental
illness, including anxiety and schizophrenia. People with these mental illnesses use smoking as a self
medicating kind of method. Several academic sources confirm that the risk of Parkinson s disease and
Alzheimer s disease is unexpectedly superior in non smokers than in smokers. The University of
Melbourne established that tobacco itself is a strong appetite suppressant and many were using it to
self treat compulsive overeating disorders and obesity. Cigarette smoking has also been linked to a
decrease in risk of certain inflammatory disorders, since nicotine itself appears to be an anti
inflammatory agent (Russo, 2011, p.1). Because of tobacco smoke being anti inflammatory some
beneficial effects come to children who are exposed to secondhand smoke. Sweden observed two
generations of Swedish children and found that the

Paget Disease Studies
Hi Gi Hwa Shin, I appreciate your presentation on paget disease because you topic challenged me to
review the literatures and recent studies. I did not see any patient with paget disease, even though it
would be a good experience to share my knowledge.
Paget disease is a chronic condition characterised by lesions of bone resulting from disordered
remodelling in which excessive bone resorption initially results in lytic lesions followed by
disorganized and excessive bone formation (Gracia et al 2012).
The etiology of paget s disease of bone (PDB) is unknown, but I would consider the influence of
hereditary and environmental factors in paget disease. A viral cause has been proposed based upon

Lionel Richie And Irving Berlin
Lionel Richie has a discography of albums and singles second to none and is part of the fabric of
American pop music. In fact, Lionel Richie and Irving Berlin are the only two songwriters in history
to achieve the honor of having #1 records for nine consecutive years. The real story behind Lionel is
essentially the American dream. Lionel was born in Tuskegee Alabama. He lived in a small, isolated,
predominantly African American community in the original home of Booker T. Washington. His
family home is situated directly on the campus of what is now Tuskegee University and was
previously The Tuskegee Institute, home the of the Tuskegee Airmen. Lionel s grandmother, Adelaide
Foster, a classical pianist, lived to be 102. His father, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew, however, that this act was the beginning of his stardom. This small pack of girls would turn
into millions of screaming fans yelling not only his name, but also singing along with every one of his
songs at every one of his shows. Motown Records was founded in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy,
CEO and Chairman and was huge by 1971. Skip Miller was the Vice President of Motown University
as Lionel jokingly calls it today. One night, Skip Miller walked into a club, saw The Commodores
perform on stage and realized these kids had talent. Lionel, along with the rest of the group, was
presented to Berry Gordy and given a record deal. This record label was prolific at the time because it
had the most respected R B and soul acts of the era including The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smoky
Robinson, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and The Jackson 5, who The Commodores would later
tour with. As the opening act for The Jackson 5, The Commodores began the start of their
international success. They released their first single, Machine Gun in 1974, which reached #7 on the
US R B charts. The Commodores would go on have more singles that topped the charts including
Brick House , Just To Be Close To You , Too Hot Ta Trot , Endless Love , just to list a few.
Lionel Richie has countless albums, but he is also known as a Music Icon. International Superstar. 100

The Copyright Of The Sherman Antitrust Act
Have you been unjustly accused, then punished? So have many companies. When dealing with trusts
and monopolies, controversy is sure to arise. This discussion is a result of the benefits, and also the
disadvantages of monopolies in our market. With these arguments going on, discussions of the
Sherman Antitrust Act in many legal cases, have been whether or not this law is beneficial to our
economy and population, or harmful. People have gathered on both sides of this debate looking for the
truth behind the effect of the Sherman Antitrust act. To learn how the Sherman Antitrust Act works we
must look back to when and why it was created. In the past, and even now, the Sherman Antitrust Act
has been and is being misunderstood, but if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This Act gave them the power to hammer down on companies that seemed threatening to them,
making it a success. Equally important, there were also disadvantages for many of the consumers.
Some of these inconveniences including, fixed prices, and poor quality. The public often does not
respond well to these things making it a priority and a sign that things needed to change. The
government isn t always out to get people, in fact they often want to help, and by deciding on creating
the Sherman Antitrust Act they indeed helped many a consumer get away from high and unfair prices.
Besides, this economy, being of a competitive nature since our revolution, will not be left alone to be
ruined by the many monopolies dominating it. The government often looks to protect this economy,
resulting in the action to stop monopolies from ruling the market. Additionally, John Sherman,
Secretary of Treasury under President Rutherford B. Hayes, Senator of Ohio, and principal author of
the Sherman Antitrust Act, tells us of a reason of his own for this law being drawn up. The reason, as
stated by Mr. Sherman, is to protect the country from the foul effects of the buildings of monopolies,
rather than the final end result of the monopolies. He even went as far as to say that the actions of
companies after they become monopolies are even good for innovation ( John Sherman ). People even

Essay about Ford Pinto
Ford Pinto Case
The humankind history has probably never known one completely successful product a product that
would never break down or malfunction. The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been
and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small
percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive
malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question.
(Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Is it the engineer who designed it, or
the person who developed the process? Ford Pinto is one of the examples of such repeated
malfunction of a product, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the
technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was
altered as well.
As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to
accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product
planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25
month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product
development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which
dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space.
Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be
positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4)
When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be
punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the
tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee
Iacocca, on importance of the safety. He was known for saying . ..safety doesn t sell (Dowie, 5) and
that only meaning of that phrase was that he did not

Summary Of Smartphone Addiction By Jessie Brown
In Jessie Brown: Who Says Smartphone Addiction is bad thing? The case for constant connectivity
(Brown, 2012), Brown claims that the cellphone is not the problem, in fact, it is the person and how
they choose to value their time while using smartphones. In the article Who says smart phone
addiction is a bad thing? The case for constant connectivity. (Toronto Life, 2012), Jesse Brown breaks
down his reasons and beliefs on the negativity surrounding smart phones that perceived as an
addiction. Correspondingly, Brown states that notification sounds and buzzing from our devices tells
us, we are important and wanted, however we fear that we won t be able to live without this constant
stream of reassuring stimulation. Moreover, Brown tries to convey that smartphones are not the
problem, we re the problem. We reply on smartphones for everything way more than we need to.
Furthermore, we make checking our smartphones our top priority by immediately jumping when we
hear sounds that indicate notifications. Accordingly, we are on high alert because of these

The most prominent of Mason s delays appear to be his speech and social development. In addition, Mason s gross and fine motor skills are not progressing appropriately for a child his age as well. Mason is currently placed in a two and a half year old preschool program although he will be turning four years old in August. Mason is the oldest of his classmates; however, that is not apparent due to his developmental delays. • 3. Plastic Surgery Becomes More Popular As time progresses, plastic surgery becomes more popular. Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or repairing parts of the body. (Reconstructive Surgery) The facelift Kris Jenner recently just had done is equally considered plastic surgery as an ordinary person getting an extra finger removed. These are both types of plastic surgery, but they re treated completely differently. A woman who gets cosmetic surgery gets scorned for getting the procedure done, yet the person who went in to remove their extra finger does not. In reality, these issues are quite similar. Plastic surgery is often the last resort for those who want to desperately change how they look; those who get plastic surgery done are quickly judged for doing so; however, both men and women should consider the reasons why a person might want plastic surgery; the reasons behind this may be deeper than one thought. Those who get plastic surgery get it for numerous reasons; one reason they get it done is for serious medical purposes. Those who seek plastic surgery for medical purposes are doing it to fix abnormalities caused by accidents, birth defects, and medical issues developed over time. An example of this would be a driver in a serious car accident getting their finger ripped off by the force that hit them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fifty two US citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981, after a group of Islamic students and militants took over the Embassy of the United States in support of the Iranian Revolution. Sixty six Americans were taken captive when Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979, including three who were at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Six more Americans escaped and of the 66 who were taken hostage, 13 were released on November 19 and 20, 1979; one was released on July 11, 1980. • 5. The Chocolate War And An Absolute Diary Of A Part Time Indian When people think about tribalism, they usually associate it with a strong possession of a cultural or ethnical identity. Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support, but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being an individual? Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. Jerry is able to disturb the tribe and almost rally supporters behind him, but it doesn t last very long and Jerry is singled out by the Vigils. Black-Footed Albatross In the poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the Albatross makes a marvelous appearance as it carries the wind on its backside in guiding a seemingly doomed ship through dangerous sea waters. This poem alludes to the majestic beauty and unique qualities of the Albatross. Many century old legends and myths are a product of the observations of the Albatross by sailors. Science has come a long way in understanding the capabilities and nature of the Albatross. It is a common issue that animal life is becoming more dependent on human intervention when it comes to feeding. This is no different with the Albatross. The Albatross will spend a large portion of its life on the ocean so the question of its feeding strategy is a popular topic since food is already scarce and widely distributed. These birds will often locate ships and look for sustenance amongst the discarded food. Since it will normally feast on marine life, the Albatross is a diurnal carnivore. It uses most of the day to feast on various marine life such as fish, krill, squid, and crabs. There was a study conducted in 1994 by Peter Prince and his colleagues that sought to understand how these birds were able to survive by fishing for sea creatures. Essay on Children + Violence + Television = Bad On September 11th, 2001, millions around the world crowded around televisions across the globe and watched the horrific scenes of terrorism that had struck New York City, Washington, D.C and Pennsylvania on that ill fated and now infamous morning. Suddenly, in a crowded room everyone felt alone. As the Twin Towers vanished before our very eyes, so did our sense of security and protection. We watched with shock and horror, disbelief and grief as the images were repeatedly flashed before our eyes. There was no escape. Every television channel and every radio station constantly reminded us of the tragedy that we will never forget. Today s news stories are explicit enough to make adults cringe, leaving children staggering. Images of injured, suffering, and the deceased often fill our television sets with reality violence. The news, however, is not the only type of media violence affecting children. Even family oriented cartoons such as the Looney Tunes starring household names such as Bugs Bunny, Wildie Coyote, and the Road Runner portray a lot of violence. Unfortunately, these types of violence are often rewarded with a laugh. While it may be comedic to adults, children are witnessing acts of violence that happen without punishment. Many of these acts of violence would leave a person greatly injured or dead, but in the cartoons the character on the screen is unaffected and ready to try again in the next scene or segment. This clearly is not reality. Children do not have the ability and understanding to grasp fictional television and reality. Even as children grow out of cartoons, they are still entertained by violence. I grew up watching the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) with my older brother and my step father, two people I looked up to. I remember countless days of wrestling with my friends throughout my childhood in result of watching the WWF. They reacted to his performance in a way that was consistent with their own learned gender performances. This theme of prejudice was a crime fueled by hate, but facilitated by gender performance. The gladiators went to all costs when it came to the arena battles, and even created their own fighting styles in order to make the battles more interesting. I had no idea that gladiatorial battles were such an art, and that there were so many gladiatorial fighting styles implemented. Gladiators were armed with various weapons and had different fighting techniques. Some gladiators rode into the arena on horseback, known as equites , as a scare tactic before he fought his opponent. Others carried large shields that covered their entire bodies for protection, known as murmillo s , while some gladiators carried small shields that covered only their torso so they were better able to move around. 1 The picture below shows some of the other types of gladiators and the armor they wore for battle. Standards-Based Grading Analysis Standards based grading is a movement that is gaining ground in education which involves measuring students proficiency on well defined course objectives (p. 70). The author is a high school math teacher who took three years to implement standards based grading in the classroom. The article describes seven reasons for replacing a point based system with a standards based one. The seven reasons discussed were that grades should have meaning, challenging of the status quo, we can control grading policies, reduces meaningless paperwork, helps teachers adjust instruction, it teaches what quality looks like, and it s a Launchpad to other reforms. • 16. Influences of Fear in What s Eating Away At Gilbert Grape... Fear influences the way humans react and the actions that transpire. Some embrace the feeling of fear; others try to overcome obstacles that fear creates. Sometimes, fear stimulates a strong response of self isolation to shield one s mind from accepting emotion. This response, however, can manifest into an extreme nature, creating the personality that Gilbert Grape exhibits. Peter Hedges clearly communicates the fact that Gilbert underwent a transformation and his personality reflects the change. The transformation not only causes Gilbert to become conflicted with expressing his feelings, but he fears the guilt of doing so as well. Gilbert struggles with his family controlling his opinions, emotions and actions. Peter Hedges illustrates the crippling nature of fear in What s Eating Gilbert Grape. Gilbert becomes emotionally isolated due to his fear of judgment. The relationship between Gilbert and his family strained by the fear to act and the reality of his life creates the alienated personality readers see. Throughout What s Eating Gilbert Grape, examples of his fear of judgment crippling him begin to surface. Gilbert says, Something is not right about all this food going to my house. Something is wrong inside me, I start to think, but I change the subject (112). Gilbert desperately wants to express on how food negatively affects his whole family, especially himself. • 23. Evaluating The Merits And Demerits Of Fixed And Floating... Evaluate the merits and demerits of fixed and floating exchange rate regimes. Provide examples to support your arguments. I. Intro Floating exchange rates and fixed exchange rates each provide distinct advantages and disadvantages for a given regime. In any given state of the global economy, one given country may be better suited for one system. But there are a number of factors that influence this, and there is therefore no universal correct system for all international economies. I will discuss the merits and demerits of a floating exchange rate, providing the examples of the US Government response to the 2008 financial crisis and the excessive speculation that led to the 1929 stock market crash. These examples will illustrate a time when the US economy benefitted due to a floating exchange rate and a time when the US economy suffered due to a floating exchange rate. I will then provide a similar analysis for the fixed exchange rate using the same example of the dangers of speculation regarding the 1929 financial crash and the emerging market crisis of Argentina in 2001. As mentioned before, there is no universal solution to the monetary policy governing exchange rates. A general rule, however, is that floating exchange rates provide a country with more adaptability and independence in fluctuating international economic circumstances. But they can lead to instability, needlessly expansionary policy and excessive speculation. Fixed exchange rates, in contrast, are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Role Of Women s Suffrage In The United States Women, for a long time, were one of the most undervalued assets essential to life in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Throughout recorded history, women have been treated as less than men. They have been viewed as simply a vessel for reproduction or a maid to do housework and prepare meals for her husband. In many ancient cultures and some cultures today women are viewed merely as possessions. Surprisingly, women were even oppressed in the United States, which was founded upon freedom and equality. Women have been struggling to shed the chains of motherhood and be recognized as equal human beings for as long as written records have been around. The unequal treatment of women was often based on religion or tradition. The United States did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The supporters of inequality often feared changing old traditions. Some of the inequality had its base rooted in religion. In the United States the predominant religion was Christianity. In the Bible, the man is supposed to be the breadwinner of the family, while the woman oversees all the household duties. People latched onto this idea which meant if you attacked that idea, you were attacking their religious beliefs. What these people did not take into consideration is that when the Bible was written times were different. When using historical accounts to develop ones beliefs you must take into consideration that life may not be the same as it was when the event occurred. In Bible times, every society was one hundred percent agrarian. This means when the Bible talks about men being responsible for all the work and providing for his family, it is referring to the physical labor that must go into producing food and running a farm. The Bible, for the most part, just divides the work of having a family based on individual strengths. Men are biologically inclined to be physically stronger and women are biologically inclined to nurture and be more gentle. The division of the work in that way made sense during ancient times. The Bible does not say that women absolutely cannot do work if they want to. It certainly does not encourage discrimination of women who do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tobacco is a plant that grows natively in North and South America. It is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous nightshade, a very deadly plant (Randall, 1999, p. 1). Tobacco may provide a different relief or prevention for some diseases in certain individuals. The most recognized health benefit of smoking is its ability to seemingly improve symptoms of mental illness, including anxiety and schizophrenia. People with these mental illnesses use smoking as a self medicating kind of method. Several academic sources confirm that the risk of Parkinson s disease and Alzheimer s disease is unexpectedly superior in non smokers than in smokers. The University of Melbourne established that tobacco itself is a strong appetite suppressant and many were using it to self treat compulsive overeating disorders and obesity. Cigarette smoking has also been linked to a decrease in risk of certain inflammatory disorders, since nicotine itself appears to be an anti inflammatory agent (Russo, 2011, p.1). (3) Since there were only 25 month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space. Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4) When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the tooling.
