The s Long And Rich History
Traditions have always played a large role in Sweet Briar College s long and rich history, it s a part of
what makes the college so unique. These traditions do not appear today in the same forms as those in
the past. The pressures of external and internal forces have changed them. Some of the most extensive
changes have come from strife at Sweet Briar during the Vietnam war and integration of the college. A
recent paper written in 2007 but Alaina McKee argues that a change in the nature of traditions
happened in the early 1940 s but research I have conducted suggests otherwise.
McCandless argues that even up until the late 1930 s southern women were held to strict standards
including restrictions on attire, outings, and even males. She calls this standard the pedestal. After
analyzing scores of editions of The Briar Patch from the 1930 s up through the mid 1970 s it is clear
that a change was happening; beginning with the mid to late 1960 s that moved away from this
pedestal she describes. McCandless discusses the importance of traditions in all women s colleges in
both the North and the South; but also recognizes that southern women s colleges held onto these
ideologies longer than their northern counterparts. May Day is just one example of an important
tradition that was held closer to the heart of the women in the south. While northern colleges were
making way for new ideas colleges in the south still clung to the ideas of the past. For example, when

Write An Argumentative Essay On Bigfoot
My logic is that i think bigfoot is real because,if god put dinosaurs and all them kind of animals what s
the difference between a flying thing that can eat u or a 1000 pound trex monster different than a bear
human like creature that we humans call bigfoot. Scientist found skulls and bones of bigfoot but some
people have claimed to have saw bigfoot but some people have also said they have seen ghost

than what people think they are but when it is night and u see a figure in the dark sometimes people
think it is a lot bigger than what it appears to be.Scientist have studied bigfoot and found a bunch of
evidence the proved bigfoot is real like one of the things that the scientist found was big bones that

Autophagy Research Paper
Autophagy is a evolutionarily conserved essential proteostasis and catabolic membrane trafficking
process that has close associations with health and longevity [10, 11]. It maintains cellular
homeostasis and viability by regulating the quantity and quality of cytoplasmic constituents such as
organelles and macromolecules through lysosomal degradation, which is activated in response to
nutrient starvation and other stressors to generate energy and allow survival [12]. Autophagy plays
vital roles by self degrading under a variety of physiological and pathological conditions such as
maintaining the stem cell quiescent state [13], manipulating immunity [14], regulating bone growth
[15], carcinogenesis [16 18] and cell metabolism [18]. Importantly, Autophagy directly targets
pathogenic misfolded Aβ for degradation [19]. Chemical that enhances autophagy was shown to be
capable of restoring nesting behavior in a murine model of Alzheimer disease [20]. Extensive efforts
have been made on Aβ degradation by autophagy, though people also argued that ... Show more

CPG2 directly interacts and recruits endophilin B2 to F actin to facilitate glutamate receptor

molecular studies has precluded a clear understanding of endophilin roles in neurology. Furthermore,

Psychodynamic Therapeutic Approach
The choice of therapeutic approach is critical to the effectiveness of any therapeutic plan. In some
cases, a particular approach has become a universal standard: such as cognitive behavioral therapy for
the treatment of phobias. More often, there is a range of potentially suitable approaches. Numerous
factors constrain the possibilities: the nature of the presenting problem or psychological issue, the
client s level of commitment to change, whether the client is an individual, family, or group are all
factors. Practical considerations are also relevant: the cost of treatment and limits of insurance
coverage, the duration of sessions and total length of treatment, and legal or institutional constraints.
The client s preference is also extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individual format would be ideal. Family therapy would be impractical since my daughter is
already an adult. A group therapy format would not be conducive to the depth of personal insight
expected. The brief format, preferably with around 12 weekly sessions, would be more feasible than
going through years of therapy. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is particularly well suited in my case
since it emphasizes the client s relationship with the primary caregiver. This would be my mother and
the issues surrounding her death. Another approach might be advisable if there were issues of
substance abuse, mental illness, or a trauma related disorder such as post traumatic stress disorder
(McDaniel, Lusterman, Philpot, 2001; Rothschild, 2000). My goal in seeking therapy would be to
attain greater insight into the significance of my daughter mother relationship and how her death has
impacted me. Improving my coping skills might be a part of the picture. Since many years have
passed since my mother s death, immediate grief support and management would not be a pressing
concern. In short, since my primary therapeutic goals would revolve around self understanding of my
relationship with my mother, brief psychodynamic psychotherapy would be a perfect

Personal Narrative Of Being A Cheerleaders
Invencible
The years biggest game ended before it even started with a lesson I will never forget. Football Friday
nights were a small town s favorite nights to come together as a community and support of Tigers.
Every week of helmet hit made our boys prepared for the season s rivalry game against the Hillsboro
Indians. Daylight faded to a starry sky with whistles blowing and crowds roaring. Even before the
game began, my name was replaced with racist .
Being a cheerleader was always a passion and a love of mine. Every Friday night I would sit in awe of
the girls on the sidelines until my turn came to be that girl. With nine of my closest friends I had the
chance to cheer on the mighty tigers for a win every Friday night until the very last minute of ... Show

Popcorn filled the air and the bands played Eye of the Tiger . Our time came, the time to reveal the
sign and pump up not only the boys but the fans. As we held our sign murmuring from the crowd

our sign had reached one thousand homes and three local news stations. A social media account of
Facebook is where the publicized banner went viral. Within two nights death threats and vulgar
language towards not only me but the other cheerleaders spread throughout Facebook and Twitter. As
sixteen to eighteen year olds, our life was ruined and we were now know as racist.

The Olympic Games Is A Good Or Bad Thing Essay
Position Paper Whether hosting the Olympic Games is a good or bad thing is very complex. City
officials need to take in a lot of factors when determining whether or not to put forth the resources to
submit a bid. One of the most crucial factors in deciding is determining what type of legacy the Games
would potentially leave on a city that hosted. Legacies can be defined as, planned and unplanned,
positive and negative, intangible and tangible structures created through a sport event that remain after
the event. (Kaplanidou Karadakis, 2010). Bid evaluations take into consideration the projected long
term legacy that the Games leave on a city (Kaplanidou Karadakis, 2010). The IOC looks for cities
that will achieve a positive legacy that benefits the host city and country. With a mega event like the
Olympics, there are both economic and social legacies to consider when looking at a host city. It is
critical for bidding cities to accumulate and analyze all the information they can in order to make an
informed decision, because once a city agrees to host, there is no turning back (Lecture notes).
Considering that the promises of economic legacies are generally unfulfilled, Olympic hosts should
focus on using the event to generate social legacies. In this paper, I will explain why the Olympic
Games are so costly to a city s economy and are an extremely risky investment. I will then proceed to
explain some misconceptions about economic analyses, and conclude by showing

A Citizen in the Theatre Community
The expression the world s a stage truly does hold up in today s modernized society. Theatre is a lively
subject, enabling us to take written language and add it with human emotion to receive a fascinating
presentation that captivates the audience and the actors alike. Being up on stage has a plethora of
benefits but comes with many responsibilities as well. As a member of the Maplewood Richmond
Heights High School, I am responsible for recognizing what I am responsible for, what my standards
are, and what my expectations for my peers in this class should be. As a citizen, a steward, a leader,
and a scholar, I should uphold others experiences in this class in addition to my own. To do this, I will
need to actively engage in classroom activities every day and be present. By doing these things, I will
ensure that I be an active participant in the Theatre I learning experience. In addition, I can also
contribute expertise, caring, and commitment to the class so that it can function correctly as a team.
This attitude toward my class will contribute to better social relations within it and a better learning

Emotional Intelligence On The Workplace
Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace When most people think of emotional intelligence (EI), they
are unsure about what exactly that phrase means. Is it someone who is very emotional? Someone who
is very smart? What is it and why is it important in the workplace? Emotional intelligence is a phrase
that encompasses many different traits that a person could have as far as maintaining control in the
workplace and also how to read people and different things they may be feeling. Emotional
intelligence is important for being aware of someone s own emotions as well as trying to calm down
or excite the people around them. A person who is in any leadership position needs to have an
awareness of his/her emotional intelligence as well as how important it can be for day to day
functioning within the work environment. This paper will go into the background and history of
emotional intelligence, talk about how it can be an important leadership tool in the nursing field, and
how I can further improve my leadership skills and growth with emotional intelligence in order to give
the reader a further understanding on the topic.
Background and definition The term emotional intelligence dates back to 1990 when two psychology
professors named John Mayer and Peter Salovey were discussing politics and certain politicians and
one of them said to the other how can someone so smart be so dumb? ; it was from there that they
realized there is more to intelligence than someone s IQ

New Fathers Should Have A Paid Parental Leave Law Essay
New fathers are showing more interest in the day to day activities of their children. They are wanting
to be more than just breadwinners; they want to be more attached to their children. As was pointed out
earlier, 86 percent of fathers said they would take paternity leave if it paid 70% of their income. For a
lot men in the Citation survey, the expected income reduction did not dissuade them from taking
parental leave to be with their newborn and wife.
My own survey showed me that the majority of respondents, and perhaps of the population, is
unaware that there is currently no paid parental leave law in the country. This came as a surprise since
only one of them did not have kids. Expectant father Philip Holt said that he was also unaware of the
lack of a paid parental leave law in the country. However, when asked if they think the country should
have a paid parental leave law, most replied yes ( Parental Leave Awareness , n. pag.).
Perhaps these survey results also coincide with the assertion by some researchers that nurturing and
caretaking is not just an inborn characteristic but an acquired one. The result of this Citation survey
points us to the strong possibility of re defining gender roles. But gender redefining aside, in order for
a parental leave law to promote the medical, societal, and economic benefits it entails, it needs to be
practical for everybody to take.
The results of my own survey further gave merit to my proposal for a paid parental leave law. The

The Bob Ross Painting Method
Bob Ross and his happy little friends have introduced millions of PBS viewers to the world of art. Bob

How Does He Do That?
The Bob Ross painting method is the wet in wet technique. Artists have used this method for hundreds

This results in the edges remaining crisp while the bulk of the mountain takes on a misty, grayed
appearance, due to the blending of the background paint into the dark of the mountain paint.
Evergreen Trees
Just as with clouds, Bob uses the fan brush to paint evergreen trees. The paint is heavily loaded onto a
fan brush. Using the edge lay a very fine vertical line to represent the treetop. Use the corner to dab
tiny bits of paint to represent the uppermost branches of the tree on the sides of the vertical line. As the
artist progresses down the trunk, he applies more pressure and uses more of the edge of the brush. Use
a choppy, erratic motion to emulate the uneven, jagged shapes of the evergreen. The underlying layer
of paint will blend with the tree color as the brush runs out of paint. Add more as necessary, but do not
try to keep all the branches the same color. This is representational, and not meant to be graphically
correct. It is the essence of the tree and there is no need to go for authenticity.
Wildlife
In the Ross method of painting wildlife, preparation is different from painting landscapes. The canvas
is thinly coated with grey gesso and allowed to dry thoroughly. Draw or transfer the subject to the
canvas using graphite carbon paper.
Rather than using the wet in wet technique, this painting starts with an underpainting of the animal
using grey, black and white acrylic paint. The student proceeds with oils

The concept is generally the same. As music players advanced from the old Gramophone, to the

did the means of copying. No longer is there a need to sneak around with hulky recorders into

demise of the brick and mortar record store. They have become as pre historic as dinosaurs. Even
compact discs are gradually becoming antiquated. They occupy space and require purchasing an entire
album, which contains few songs that are pleasing to the ear. Today, one can easily log onto the
internet and easily download a song, or two, or thousands. The digital format of music such as MP3 s

The Cone Of Learning Experience
Furthermore, in the construction of assessment methodologies, the Cone of Learning Experience of
Edgar Dale is considered. (Figure 3)
Fig. 3. Edgar Dale s Cone of Learning Experience
Dale s Cone of Experience is a model that incorporates several theories related to instructional design
and learning processes, according to Anderson (2006), In the 1960s, Edgar Dale theorized that learners
retain more information by what they do as opposed to what is heard , read, or observed . His research
led to the development of the Cone of Experience. Today, this learning by doing has become known as
experiential learning or action learning .
. As reflected in Dale s research, the most effective methods involve direct, purposeful learning
experiences, such as hands on or field experience. Whereas, the least effective methods involve
learning from information presented through verbal symbols, like, listening to spoken words.
Direct purposeful experiences represent reality or the closest things to real, everyday life. The cone
charts the average retention rate for various methods of teaching. The further you progress down the
cone, the greater the learning and the more information is likely to be retained. It also suggests that

Real Hero Definition
What is a hero?
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles. Christopher Reeve
What do you think of when you hear the word hero? Do you think of someone saving another person?
How about a man with big muscles? Do you think of your parents? When I first thought of a hero, I
imagined someone saving another from a burning fire. However, thinking more about it I realized that
a hero isn t just someone who saves people, they can be anybody. A hero is brave, courageous,
selfless, honest, and determined. The qualities in a real hero are often missed or overlooked. We
expect them to look like superman, when in reality, that isn t a real hero at all.

Analysis Of Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing
Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing is remarkably different in tone from the other plays
discussed. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice, there are far
fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to modern audiences. The film has much less violence
in it than the others and even its chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright evil
manipulator.
The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard III or Iago, but
Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong movie. He lurks in the shadows
and is not really given a compelling motive for his cruel actions. He does not even enact the rare few
scenes of violence in the film. In a different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain could ruin the
whole production, but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most important parts are
the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite well.
It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so successful. Claudio
s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and it is quickly followed by a romantic
scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore the tone. It comes across well as a modern romantic
comedy, with just enough darkness to drive the plot forward. To make the film darker than it has to be
would diminish how enjoyable and fun to watch it is.

Classical And Operant Conditioning And The Field Of...
How have studies of classical and operant conditioning contributed to the field of psychology?
In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and
discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us
about the way in which some human behaviour occurs.
Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st
century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are
instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning

conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the
conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers
to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less
apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response

behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety

The participants in the derivatives markets are generally...
The participants in the derivatives markets are generally classified as hedgers and speculators. The
hedgers use derivatives as main purpose to protect against adverse changes while speculators enter a
derivative contract with attempt to profit from anticipated changes in market prices. One of the biggest
questions in regard to the treatment of derivatives tools is whether actually they are used for hedging
or speculation. (Adam and Fernando 2006)
According to Guay (1999) firms can reduce dramatically their risk by the means of derivatives. But in
the same research he finds out that derivatives could be used either do increase or decrease risk. Guay
(1999) undertakes an empirical examination of new derivative users in attempt to find out ... Show

However, Hentchel and
Konthari (2001) find out that even the firms with large derivatives positions do not show a significant
increase in their return volatility, which is inconsistent with the hypothesis for speculations with
derivatives. Furthermore, they also detect that the same companies do not have a significant decrease
in their risk. These findings lead them to the conclusion that firms derivatives use does not measurably
increase or decrease their return volatility . (Hentchel and Konthari 2001, p.94)
Stulz (1996) find that many firms use successfully derivatives as a tool for hedge for short term
contracts or in cases when they have large taxes or poorly diversified portfolios. By using derivatives
to hedge the risk companies increase their leverage and in this way reduce the tax liabilities. In other
words, the use of derivatives increases the level of leverage. (Stulz 1996) Other theories suggest that
some holders of call option can benefit from the use of derivatives if they produce higher volatility.
(Black and Scholes 1973). But according to the research of Hentschel and Kothari (2001) there is no
enough evidence for such thesis.
Another research investigates the relation between the use of derivatives and the cost of equity and the
results show that the cost of equity of the derivatives users is lower than this of non users, due to lower

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus
The title of Mary Shelley s novel is Frankenstein; or the Modern Prometheus. So it shouldn t come as
a shock that Mary Shelley was actually influenced by this tale. Her husband Percy Shelley had
actually begun composing his own tale of Prometheus in the form of poetry entitled, Prometheus
Unbound. He began composing this piece around the same time that his wife was publishing
Frankenstein. Mary Shelley included The Modern Prometheus as part of her title for the novel and she
attempts to compare Victor Frankenstein, and the Monster with Prometheus. (www.enotes.com)

Frankenstein used science to create the Creature which would be an incredible leap into the realm of

Both Prometheus and Frankenstein abandoned their creations because of a particular circumstance.
When Prometheus created the human race, he sought to aid humanity in every way possible. However,
due the punishment Zeus gave him for stealing fire, Prometheus was unable to aid humanity, and thus
humanity was deserted. In Frankenstein, Victor was immediately horrified by what his work had
created, and sought to avoid the monster by any means possible. (https://sisenegger2.wordpress.com)
He believed that if he was creating a being made of the most beautiful parts that the product would be

he has done is wrong. The creation of an unnatural being, by unnatural means disgusts Victor and that
causes him to flee. (www.enotes.com) It can be argued that Prometheus was more loyal to his

Introduction. In This Paper, I Am Going To Talk About Acute
Introduction
In this paper, I am going to talk about Acute Stress Disorder and how it affects the daily lives of
people who have it. What exactly is Acute Stress Disorder? According to Steve Bressert, a doctor in
philosophy, ASD is:
Acute Stress Disorder is characterized by the development of severe anxiety, dissociative, and other
symptoms that occurs within one month after exposure to an extreme traumatic stressor (e.g.,
witnessing a death or serious accident). As a response to the traumatic event, the individual develops
dissociative symptoms. Individuals with Acute Stress Disorder have a decrease in emotional
responsiveness. (Bressert, 2016)

ASD in Adults
It is known that 80% of adults in the United States have experienced trauma at least once in their lives.
I simply cannot imagine an adult going through this, but it must be more difficult for children to
overcome it. It is not common for older adults to develop ASD, as they have most likely learned how
to cope with stressful events. Experiencing a traumatic event at a young age can most likely lead to
developing ASD in adulthood. ASD in adulthood can easily develop into a more complex
psychological disorder known as PTSD. A treatment that can help adults is Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy, which can reduce the trauma. This treatment is usually used and is more effective in children
rather than adults. Another type of treatment is Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing,
(EMDR). EMDR is a type of therapy treatment that can help people recover from their emotional
distress in life. This type of therapy has been proven to be very effective in most cases, and is still
used.
ASD in Children
According to the website Minddisorders.com, children do in fact suffer from ASD, but not as much as
adults do. For example:
Very little is known about the prevalence of ASD or PTSD in children, and even less is known how
effectively medications and psychotherapy treat these disorders in this age group. There are as yet no
standardized screens or diagnostic interviews in widespread use for assessing either ASD or PTSD in
children, although a Child Post Traumatic

Modern Revival Of The Cornett
The cornetto is a wooden wind instrument widely used throughout Europe from the 15th through the
17th centuries. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with the trumpet like instrument
called the cornet. A hybrid between a woodwind (like the recorder) and a brass instrument (like the
trumpet), it was a long and slender tube, curved to one side, and had open finger holes. Sound was
produced by blowing into a cup shaped mouthpiece, like that of the trumpet. The combination of the
mouthpiece and finger holes results in difficulties of intonation (pitch) and embouchure (mouth
positions). Once mastered, it s extremely agile and has a range of dynamics and expressions that span
between brassy trumpet sounds to incredibly sweet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the classification system of Hornbostel and Sachs, they are classified as trumpets with
finger holes . They flourished mainly in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, but began a
decline in popularity from the second half of the seventeenth; from 1700 onwards their use fell off
dramatically, even though in some parts of Europe they persisted until the early 1800s. Their modern
revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as Otto Steinkopf in
Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts in public in the
1950s.
Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for
example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for
cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind style
fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re invention of
both their playing technique and usage. Cornetts are usually considered to be difficult to play well, but
performance standards have improved dramatically over the last fifty years or so.
If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor white
trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for their
poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with

Drop is a measure of the gambling activity at the tables, but negative drop variances cannot be taken
to mean that the dealers were not productive. The drop is dependent on the table s minimum and the
number and type of players who chose to play at that table on that shift. To illustrate, ask if the drop

that table that day were doing something poorly (e.g., slow dealing) or dishonestly (stealing money

The Segregation Of The South
Segregation in the South
Introduction
According to Merriam Webster the word segregation was first known to be used in 1555. It is defined
as the separation or isolation of a race, class, or ethnic group by enforcing or voluntary residence in a
restricted area, by barriers to social intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other
discriminatory means.
The United States underwent vast transformations, especially in the South. New political, social, and
economic systems emerged that transformed the South from a rural, slave based society, to an
increasingly urban, industrialized, free labor society. The changes to the social, political, and
economic landscape of the South prompted an unprecedented era of racial violence throughout the
region (Jett, p.40). The Southern states deemed slavery was crucial to safeguard white superiority.
Most Southern whites who had aspirations of becoming a very prominent slave owner, were terrified
of a society with considerable numbers of African Americans who were not slaves. Segregation moved
by way of public accommodations, all the way through the South. DeFina Hannon (2011) and others
showed daily interactions of whites and blacks in the South, during reconstruction of the south
identified racial prejudices were increasing steadily, after the Civil War and especially during the 1880
s. Town after town across the south flatly banned African Americans within their city limits after dark.

Dora Maar s Bust Of A Woman
Pablo Picasso s muse of almost ten years, Dora Maar, was depicted many times throughout his
paintings and sculptures (Riding). In his 1941 oil on canvas painting, Bust of a Woman (Dora Maar),
Picasso looked to his muse once again for inspiration. Neither one of Picasso s most famous, nor best
paintings, Bust of a Woman still tells a story of the time and place of a tumultuous artist muse
relationship encapsulated by Picasso s surrealist expression in Nazi occupied France during World
War II. On its face, Bust of a Woman appears secular Dora Maar is not obviously representative of any
sort of entity. However, Picasso did place her on a pedestal for a time and I wonder if he intentionally
back lit her, painting the light around her head and hair to depict a light aura or halo effect (Picasso).

How The Different Mixing Methods Affected The Final Volume...
Figure one shows how the different mixing methods affected the final volume of the mayonnaise. It is
expected that as the mixing methods gained speed and applied more shear force, the mayonnaise
would have more volume. This was seen in the data. The biggest volume of mayonnaise achieved was
done by a blender and by a homogenizer. The blender that yielded a low volume product was because
the emulsion broke, which explains why a large volume was not seen. The high speed homogenizer
also had problems with the mayo, which explains their low volume yield. A mayonnaise made with a
lot of shear force is expected to have a greater volume because the higher the sheer force, the smaller
the oil droplets would be. This means that there were smaller oil droplets which allowed more total
droplets to be incorporated into the mayonnaise. More droplets leads to a higher volume because there
is more surface area in the mixture of the internal and external phase. The emulsion also remained
stable due to the smaller droplets, which will be looked at in detail later. Since the mayo was more
stable, none of the emulsion broke during the time between preparing the mayonnaise for analysis and
when it was actually analyzed. Overall, the results seen in figure one were generally expected.
Figure two shows the effect of different mixing methods and their effect on various texture indicators
of the mayonnaise. These indicators were thickness, viscosity, and separation. It is expected that the

Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer
In the 21st century human cloning has become a huge component of modern day society, it s mainly
being looked at as a way for human infertility problems to be solved through a process of somatic cell
nuclear transfer. But is this process actually helping or benefiting the cloning of humans? The answer
is simple, no. Somatic cell nuclear transfer is a technique for cloning in which the nucleus is removed
from a healthy egg. This egg becomes the host for a nucleus that is transplanted from another cell,
such as a skin cell. The resulting embryo can be used to generate embryonic stem cells with a genetic
match to the nucleus donor (therapeutic cloning), or can be implanted into a surrogate mother to create

the roman empire is the greatest civilization of all time
The Roman Empire was the period of time after the Roman Republic and before the Byzantine Empire
from 29 B.C. to A.D. 476. It was the highest point of Roman civilization, greater than any prior
empires and towers over even the empires after it; it triumphed over the world .
The Roman Republic was what built up the foundation for the Roman Empire. During the Republic, a
small group of people started from scratch and developed their own systems, which later develops into
the Roman Empire. The strong leaders of the Republic had conquered much land and people for
Rome. The Roman Republic thus ignites Roman civilization, which leads on to the second step the
Roman Empire.

The Greek Empire occurred before the Romans and when compared to the Roman Empire, seems to
be modest, not as great. The Greeks did not have as much conquered lands, which lessens their power.
What they did have conquered was divided into parts amongst different rulers, who were constantly at
war with each other, lacking the peace that Pax Romana had. The conquered Greek lands did not have
a chance to civilize as one great empire as the Romans had.
The Byzantine Empire followed the Roman Empire, and it, also, seems meager in comparison. It had
evolved from the Roman Empire, and because it was in the late stage that it was in, land had been lost,
so in terms of size, the Roman Empire was superior to the Byzantine. The empire wasn t strong, either.
At the start, the first ruler, Justinian, attempted to reconquer Roman lands, but in doing so, left his own
land in ruins, and his conquests were lost right after his death. The Empire faced many enemies and
was threatened constantly by them. Eventually, all land was lost except for the Constantinople, the
rich and powerful capital city, and the land surrounding it.
As can be seen, the Roman Empire was great for its time in more ways that one, with its undefeatable
strength and size . It was greater than the empires before it

Summary Between Lord Of The Glies And Lord Of The Flies
Early man set up civilizations so future generations could live in peace and survive in their
surroundings. As early man developed civilizations, they contained five characteristics. Three of the
five are complex institutions, specialized workers, and record keeping. Complex institutions are
organizations like government and religious organizations. Specialized workers are people like
teachers, soldiers, and priests. Finally, cuneiform tablets were used in record keeping to keep track of
rules and trade. The characters in Lord of the Flies mirror early man s development through complex
institutions, specialized workers and record keeping. The boys in the novel Lord of the Flies mirror
the development of early man through complex institutions when they appoint a chief. In the historical
fiction novel, Clan of the Cave Bear, the text reads, the leader of the small clan... (Auel 12). In the
Lord of the Flies, after being called to the beach by the conch, the boys vote for a chief to lead the
mass of boys on the island similar to the early man leader portrayed in Clan of the Cave Bear (Golding
22). The connection between these texts demonstrates that the boys are going through the same
development phase as early man did. In both Lord of the Flies, and Clan of the Cave Bear, there is a
chief, and even more, a complex institution similar to a government. Now that a government has been
formed, there will be workers and a way to keep track of events. The boys in the novel

Descriptive Essay On The Sea World
A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself
strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom,
my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there
multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her
being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that
dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge
mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding
these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying:
No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t
want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno,
sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she
bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at
my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once
in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag
will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on the legendary snack food

Bearded Dragons. Such as, two Bearded Dragons, a food source, a habitat, lighting, and incubation

An example of decorations would be a vine, logs, foliage, a background, or even a statue. For tank
lighting, you will need a UVB light and a heat light. The lighting will cost anywhere from sixty to a
hundred dollars. If you plan on breeding expensive morphs of Bearded Dragons then they will cost
around $150 dollars each. If you just plan to breed common Bearded Dragons, you could probably
pick up a pair for seventy dollars. In addition, you will need a form of water mister. An example of a
mister would be a spray bottle. That can run anywhere around three dollars at a pet store. The food
source is very important, and food can be expensive. Bearded dragons are omnivorous [meaning they
will eat both insects and vegetables] (Bearded Dragon Guide). Blaptica Dubia roaches are the food
source I am incorporating in this estimate. Dubia Roaches are one of the few insects which actually
bear live young and so there are no messy eggs dotting your substrate or egg crates ( Blaptica Dubia
Roaches ). Dubia Roaches are easier to maintain and reproduce faster and more than crickets and
super worms. For the breeding habitat and the large breeding pack of Dubia roaches, it cost around
$300 dollars. I would choose to have a colony of my Bearded Dragons food source so I would save
money in the end. In addition to the roaches, you will need reptile vitamins to dust the roaches. The
vitamin powered cost roughly twenty dollars. The incubator for the eggs will cost around seventy to a

Building Dwelling And Thinking Analysis
In our daily life we have different meanings of building, dwelling and thinking. We built buildings to
dwell, but we do not dwell because of buildings. As humans, we like to dwell in some place. When we
went to the Fort Greene Park, we saw the fourfold that Martin Heidegger talks about in his article
Building, Dwelling, thinking . These fourfold are earth, sky, morals, and divinities. First, we saw unity
at this park between the green land, trees and buildings. This park includes part of high ground and a
white building at the center of the park where the soldiers buried. Also, we saw birds fly from one tree
to another. They took the park s trees dwelling for them. We could see the sky from everywhere at the
park. It is horizontal and it gives us the feeling of freedom. Also, we saw people from different ages.
We saw children was playing and enjoying with their time, young people do exercises and some older
people talk to each other. I found that this park is a dwell for many people such as who do exercises,
spend good time at playing and those people come again to this park to remember good situations and

Cellular Respiration Lab Report
I.Introduction
In this lab we are measuring the amount of oxygen used in both germinating and non germinating
peas. We are measuring the oxygen consumption by taking a reading of a respirometer submerged in
two water baths. The first bath will be cold water and the second warm to determine the effect of
temperatures on oxygen consumption. Our negative control will be glass beads to measure to increase
or decrease in atmospheric pressure or temperature changes. There is a direct relationship between
oxygen consumption and Carbon Dioxide produced, therefore the more O2 consumed the more CO2
produced. To keep the amount of CO2 produced from canceling out any pressure gained or lost from

Added to the respirometers will be KOH(potassium hydroxide) to selectively remove any carbon
dioxide produced with the consumption of oxygen. The three respirometers will be submerged in each
bath and allowed to equilibrate. After the equilibration period the respirometers are submerged in the
baths taking reading at 5 minute intervals, recording the amount of oxygen consumed in ml on the
pipette attached to each respirometer.
III. Results/Presentation of Data
Our data recorded shows that the germinating peas did consume more oxygen than the non
germinating or the glass beads alone and that the cooler temperature did slow down the consumption
of oxygen in the germinating peas. In both water baths the atmospheric pressure seemed to increase
causing our reading to raise in our glass beads and non germinating peas. This direct relationship in
reading leads us to believe that the oxygen consumption in the non germinating peas was minimal if
any at all.

Literary Devices Used In Barbara Kingsolver s The Bean Trees
Throughout the novel, the author, Barbara Kingsolver, uses various stylistic devices to create complex,
symbolic, and significant literature that is also rich in meaning. In the assigned passage, Kingsolver
incorporates several literary devices to capture the audience s attention and leave them with something
to think about post reading. The most prevalent stylistic device in this passage is imagery. Kingsolver
begins the passage by setting the scene; she meticulously describes the oncoming storm.
As the storm moved closer it broke into hundreds of pieces so that the rain fell here and there from the
high clouds in long, curving gray plumes. It looked like maybe fifty or sixty fires scattered over the
city, except that the tall, smoky columns were flowing in reverse. And if you looked closely you could

The second device that is ubiquitous in this passage is symbolism. The symbols found in this passage
include rain, sunlight, lightning, and the aroma of rain. A common theme in The Bean Trees is plants.
This theme is introduced in the passage through the symbol of rain. Rain is a meaningful symbol due
to the fact that rain is a key factor in the growth and development of plants. Since plants have
symbolised both Taylor and Turtle, the rain that occurs in the passage creates a sense of growth for
both characters as they are both in the process of growing and developing.
One more theme in the novel is religion. Rays of sunlight streamed from between the clouds, like the
Holy Ghost... (162). The Holy Ghost is meant to signify God. The plant theme is also involved
because sunlight is a key factor in the growth of plants. This means that God/ spirituality is a key
ingredient in the growth of both Turtle and

Altur A Short Story
It s been missed before. Don t feel bad if you do it too; there s a sign that points out Whitewater State
Park, but not the towns that surround it. It s okay. It s a small place surrounded by cornfields. It s cozy.
I mean, if you like the small town feel, Altura is the place to be! I bet if you stood on one end of Main
Street, you could spit into the farthest yard on the other end. Altura is in a sort of funny spot. It s only
11 miles from the heart of Winona County and 13 from the fairgrounds, yet most people never know it
even exists. There are maybe four hundred people; however, you would not know it in the winter. It s
a ghost town then. The old folks all leave for Florida or somewhere else, somewhere nice. Despite the
flaws, Altura has a lot to offer all year round; it will always be a part of me. Usually, it s the end of
December before I notice the lack of life. The months leading up to it are pretty busy. I m not sure
who does it, but the town gets pretty festive right before everyone leaves. The first snowfall brings out
a lot of people. Soon afterwards, the lights and decorations go up. It s funny really. The cheerful
shrieks from the children and the struggle of hanging the Christmas lights makes the ... Show more

Although, I m sure I will be back. I will miss those summer parties hidden away in some cornfield,
and the late nights spent beside a bonfire, even sleeping under the stars; although I could have done
without the rain! I loved this small town, but it s time to move on. Overall, as much as I say how
boring and slow Altura is, it will always be a part of me. This small old town is part of who I am. In
the winter and in the summer, it doesn t matter when, Altura has something you can t find anywhere
else. Even if you can t find the town, it s magic will surround you. It may not be the heart of Winona

The Death Comes By Charles Wyville Thomson, Commander Of...
Death comes easily. Death comes with diseases spread by people living in close quarters. Death comes
with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a plunge into
rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea during the time
prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain situation but still
agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as courage. Two
examples of courageous men are Zheng He and Charles Wyville Thomson, commanders of very
different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew members towards death with
the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a worker for the emperor of the Ming
Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000 Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the
Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer
1). Charles Wyville Thomson, a scientist from Britain, commanded a voyage aboard the HMS
Challenger with less than 250 crew members (Bishop). In his voyage, departing in December of 1872
and returning in May of 1876, Thomson traveled to Antarctica, the Caribbean, South Africa, Hawaii,
and South America (Dreyer xiii). Zheng He s and Charles Wyville Thomson s voyages differed in
terms of purpose, approach, and outcome as well as technological advancements and human
characteristic traits, but the

That exclamation came unbidded from his lips, the man s body shuddering in pleasure and mouth
falling open as he witnessed at the sensation of Elena s hands stroking his shaft, and the next sound
that came from his mouth was a long groan of pleasure, where her lips kissed the tip of his cock, then

the reactions of his body.
Panting, his fingers tightened their grip in her hair, and he pumped his his lowly into her mouth,
caught between watching her lips suckle and slide up his shaft, and the flick of her tongue, and
keeping his eyes on hers. Unable to talk, when he felt the tip hit the back of her throat, he bit his lip
and his entire body arched as his head fell back, unconsiously tugging at he hair, and releasing a growl
of pure arousal. Damn, she was fucking good, and Brett was almost relieved, when she pulled him

King Lear, By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s tragic play King Lear is a play that occupies a critical place in the great
playwright s cannon. Harold Bloom noted that it, along with Hamlet, can be thought of as a kind of
secular scripture or mythology . If we accept Bloom s reading, then it becomes possible to read the
play as a kind of a parable and to read it s symbolism in terms of the way that those symbols have
been teased out in scripture and in mythology. In particular, this essay will consider how blindness
functions as a symbol that puts the play in conversation with scripture and myth. Blindness in King
Lear elicits the kind of sympathy that biblical references to blindness engender. Alternatively,
references to blindness in mythology are not meant to speak about care and generosity but rather as
punishment. Shakespeare blends both the scriptural significance of blindness and the mythological
symbolism to create two characters, Lear and Gloucester whose ignorance Shakespeare figures
through metaphors of sight, vision and blindness. As such, Shakespeare both incites Christian pity for
these men who lack the ability to see what is before them, while invoking the quid pro quo moralism
of myth that figures blindness as a punishment for bad behaviour.
Foakes notes that [King Lear] is not located in time (p. 82). He points out that it refers through to the
primitive world of gods while at the same time evidences scriptural quotes in the mouths of the
characters. As such the play sees both

The Devil s Arithmetic And Comparison Essay
The Devil s Arithmetic Compare/Contrast Essay The Devil s Arithmetic teaches us countless lessons
throughout both forms of publishing. Each form however has a different lesson and develops them in
different ways. The book differentiates from the movie in numerous ways. In both the book and the
movie there are many similarities, but there is still diversity. Each form of media develops their
individual themes differently because that makes it more apparent for the viewers to understand and
absorb.
Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic with the main theme about remembering what
happened, sacrifices, and honoring those who died. Hannah Stern ,a 13 year old girl, is tired of
remembering and doesn t want to go to the Seder. Hannah faces a dream that seems like reality where
she learns what happened in Concentration Camps to the Jews. She learns that she must remember
what happened to the Jews and she learns about sacrifice and honoring the dead. After waking from
her dreams she realizes she must remember the Holocaust, honor the dead Jews, and stay true to her
religion. The Devil s Arithmetic film was made in 1999 based on the book written by Jane Yolen. The
movie highlights the horror and dismay the Jews faced in the camps. Hannah the main character faces
the disheartening nature of these camps in her dream which feels like reality to her. Hannah learns
about the Holocaust and what happens if you were in the camps during the Holocaust while in her
dream and she learns to

Louis Le Vau And Claude Perrault s Curvilinear Design For...
one that was a signature for associated with his name, which set the structure apart. Another major
turning point for the French classicism design is when, Louis XIV rejected Giovanni Bernini s
curvilinear design for the east facade of the Louvre in favor of Louis Le Vau and Claude Perrault s
more classicizing design with its celebrated colonnade (1667 70) (Spicer, 2001). This decision set the
French apart from the adopted form of Italian baroque, rejecting the exuberant behavior of common
Italian practices during the time period. During the seventeenth century, the common practice for
important building design was to include all prominent art forms in the research and development. We
can see this happen in popular buildings such as the Louvre, where Louis Le Vau and Claude Perrault
designed portions in unison. Arguably the most important building to come out of the mid seventeenth
century is the Palace of Versailles outside of Paris. The designers Le Vau, Mansart, Le Brun, and
Andre Le Notre all worked in conjunction to complete everything from the building design to the
colossal gardens and fountains. Another notable feature of the early seventeenth century is the
emergence of dignified, attractive city squares. A strong example of such square is the Palace of
Vosges in Paris, constructed in the early seventeenth century, incorporated a King s house, Queen s
house, and a handful of steeply pitched roofed buildings to form the square for festivities. Constructed

Strengths Of Existentialism
This assignment is about the main features of the existentialist view (UoPeople, 2017), or
existentialism, as well as the major strengths and weaknesses, and what is appealing or discouraging
about Sartre s Theory. First and foremost, existentialism is a philosophical theory or approach that
emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their
own development through acts of the will (Prezi, 2017). In other ways is a philosophy that focuses on
human existence and the important of their personal freedom, decision, and commitment. It originated
with the 19th century philosophers (Philosophybasics, 2017) Kierkegaard, who was religious, and

if they don t exist, then why is there a practical proof of them in these people? Another weakness of
the existentialist view is the fact that when treating patients with psychological problems, they may
not fit in any of the four different themes discussed above. As a result, they cannot be treated

Archetypes In The Importance Of Being Earnest By Oscar Wilde
An archetype is a character, an action, or a situation that seems to represent universal patterns of
human nature such as Hercules going on a hero s journey to conquer the evil villians and achieve a
god like status (Archetype). The journey and challenges he faces lead him into a heroic ending and
saving a damsel in distress. Similarly, in The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, the
characters face a journey of self discovery through varying archetypes. Jack Worthing is a dreamer,
Cecily and Gwendolen struggle to play the innocent child role, and Ernest is prince charming. The
archetypes portrayed in The Importance of Being Earnest epitomize a journey with self discovery and
a resolution worth defending. Jack Worthing lived a double life where his alter ego was Ernest
Worthing. This alter identity lived in the city and acted as a gentleman to impress a young lady named
Gwendolen. Jack s true identity resided in the country caring for Cecily. Cecily believed that Ernest
was Jack s troubled brother, therefore it was comprehensible that Jack would leave the country
suddenly to go to the city to visit his brother. Jack s double life had remained secret until Algernon
discovered a cigarette case with Jack s name on it, forcing Jack to reveal that his name is Ernest in
town and Jack in the country, and the cigarette case was given to [him] in the country (Wilde 12). The
alter identity developed by Jack was merely a dream. The dreamer archetype allows dreamers to

  • 2. The s Long And Rich History Traditions have always played a large role in Sweet Briar College s long and rich history, it s a part of what makes the college so unique. These traditions do not appear today in the same forms as those in the past. The pressures of external and internal forces have changed them. Some of the most extensive changes have come from strife at Sweet Briar during the Vietnam war and integration of the college. A recent paper written in 2007 but Alaina McKee argues that a change in the nature of traditions happened in the early 1940 s but research I have conducted suggests otherwise. McCandless argues that even up until the late 1930 s southern women were held to strict standards including restrictions on attire, outings, and even males. She calls this standard the pedestal. After analyzing scores of editions of The Briar Patch from the 1930 s up through the mid 1970 s it is clear that a change was happening; beginning with the mid to late 1960 s that moved away from this pedestal she describes. McCandless discusses the importance of traditions in all women s colleges in both the North and the South; but also recognizes that southern women s colleges held onto these ideologies longer than their northern counterparts. May Day is just one example of an important tradition that was held closer to the heart of the women in the south. While northern colleges were making way for new ideas colleges in the south still clung to the ideas of the past. For example, when May Day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Autophagy Research Paper Autophagy is a evolutionarily conserved essential proteostasis and catabolic membrane trafficking process that has close associations with health and longevity [10, 11]. It maintains cellular homeostasis and viability by regulating the quantity and quality of cytoplasmic constituents such as organelles and macromolecules through lysosomal degradation, which is activated in response to nutrient starvation and other stressors to generate energy and allow survival [12]. Autophagy plays vital roles by self degrading under a variety of physiological and pathological conditions such as maintaining the stem cell quiescent state [13], manipulating immunity [14], regulating bone growth [15], carcinogenesis [16 18] and cell metabolism [18]. Importantly, Autophagy directly targets pathogenic misfolded Aβ for degradation [19]. Chemical that enhances autophagy was shown to be capable of restoring nesting behavior in a murine model of Alzheimer disease [20]. Extensive efforts have been made on Aβ degradation by autophagy, though people also argued that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, a particular approach has become a universal standard: such as cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of phobias. More often, there is a range of potentially suitable approaches. Numerous factors constrain the possibilities: the nature of the presenting problem or psychological issue, the client s level of commitment to change, whether the client is an individual, family, or group are all factors. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is particularly well suited in my case since it emphasizes the client s relationship with the primary caregiver. Another approach might be advisable if there were issues of substance abuse, mental illness, or a trauma related disorder such as post traumatic stress disorder (McDaniel, Lusterman, Philpot, 2001; Rothschild, 2000). • 9. The Olympic Games Is A Good Or Bad Thing Essay Position Paper Whether hosting the Olympic Games is a good or bad thing is very complex. City officials need to take in a lot of factors when determining whether or not to put forth the resources to submit a bid. One of the most crucial factors in deciding is determining what type of legacy the Games would potentially leave on a city that hosted. Legacies can be defined as, planned and unplanned, positive and negative, intangible and tangible structures created through a sport event that remain after the event. (Kaplanidou Karadakis, 2010). Bid evaluations take into consideration the projected long term legacy that the Games leave on a city (Kaplanidou Karadakis, 2010). The IOC looks for cities that will achieve a positive legacy that benefits the host city and country. With a mega event like the Olympics, there are both economic and social legacies to consider when looking at a host city. It is critical for bidding cities to accumulate and analyze all the information they can in order to make an informed decision, because once a city agrees to host, there is no turning back (Lecture notes). Considering that the promises of economic legacies are generally unfulfilled, Olympic hosts should focus on using the event to generate social legacies. In this paper, I will explain why the Olympic Games are so costly to a city s economy and are an extremely risky investment. I will then proceed to explain some misconceptions about economic analyses, and conclude by showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are wanting to be more than just breadwinners; they want to be more attached to their children. As was pointed out earlier, 86 percent of fathers said they would take paternity leave if it paid 70% of their income. For a lot men in the Citation survey, the expected income reduction did not dissuade them from taking parental leave to be with their newborn and wife. My own survey showed me that the majority of respondents, and perhaps of the population, is unaware that there is currently no paid parental leave law in the country. This came as a surprise since only one of them did not have kids. Expectant father Philip Holt said that he was also unaware of the lack of a paid parental leave law in the country. However, when asked if they think the country should have a paid parental leave law, most replied yes ( Parental Leave Awareness , n. pag.). Perhaps these survey results also coincide with the assertion by some researchers that nurturing and caretaking is not just an inborn characteristic but an acquired one. The result of this Citation survey points us to the strong possibility of re defining gender roles. But gender redefining aside, in order for a parental leave law to promote the medical, societal, and economic benefits it entails, it needs to be practical for everybody to take. Using the edge lay a very fine vertical line to represent the treetop. Use the corner to dab tiny bits of paint to represent the uppermost branches of the tree on the sides of the vertical line. As the artist progresses down the trunk, he applies more pressure and uses more of the edge of the brush. Use a choppy, erratic motion to emulate the uneven, jagged shapes of the evergreen. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice, there are far fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to modern audiences. The film has much less violence in it than the others and even its chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright evil manipulator. The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard III or Iago, but Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong movie. He lurks in the shadows and is not really given a compelling motive for his cruel actions. He does not even enact the rare few scenes of violence in the film. In a different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain could ruin the whole production, but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most important parts are the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite well. It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so successful. Claudio s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and it is quickly followed by a romantic scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore the tone. In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us about the way in which some human behaviour occurs. Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning principles known as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalisation and discrimination. (Martin, G.N., Carlson, N.R., and Buskist, W. (2013). Psychology. (5th ed.). Page 228 Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education. Chapter 7). Acquisition refers to the learning phase in classical conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response applies to similar stimuli, for example, being conditioned to fear a stuffed white rabbit the same behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety ... These findings lead them to the conclusion that firms derivatives use does not measurably increase or decrease their return volatility . Experiencing a traumatic event at a young age can most likely lead to developing ASD in adulthood. ASD in adulthood can easily develop into a more complex psychological disorder known as PTSD. A treatment that can help adults is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which can reduce the trauma. This treatment is usually used and is more effective in children rather than adults. Another type of treatment is Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing, (EMDR). EMDR is a type of therapy treatment that can help people recover from their emotional distress in life. This type of therapy has been proven to be very effective in most cases, and is still used. ASD in Children According to the website Minddisorders.com, children do in fact suffer from ASD, but not as much as adults do. For example: Very little is known about the prevalence of ASD or PTSD in children, and even less is known how effectively medications and psychotherapy treat these disorders in this age group. There are as yet no standardized screens or diagnostic interviews in widespread use for assessing either ASD or PTSD in children, although a Child Post Traumatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Modern Revival Of The Cornett The cornetto is a wooden wind instrument widely used throughout Europe from the 15th through the 17th centuries. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with the trumpet like instrument called the cornet. A hybrid between a woodwind (like the recorder) and a brass instrument (like the trumpet), it was a long and slender tube, curved to one side, and had open finger holes. Sound was produced by blowing into a cup shaped mouthpiece, like that of the trumpet. The combination of the mouthpiece and finger holes results in difficulties of intonation (pitch) and embouchure (mouth positions). Once mastered, it s extremely agile and has a range of dynamics and expressions that span between brassy trumpet sounds to incredibly sweet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the classification system of Hornbostel and Sachs, they are classified as trumpets with finger holes . They flourished mainly in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, but began a decline in popularity from the second half of the seventeenth; from 1700 onwards their use fell off dramatically, even though in some parts of Europe they persisted until the early 1800s. Their modern revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as Otto Steinkopf in Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts in public in the 1950s. Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind style fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re invention of both their playing technique and usage. Cornetts are usually considered to be difficult to play well, but performance standards have improved dramatically over the last fifty years or so. If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor white trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for their poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, it illustrates a control system that is dominated by action and personnel controls, rather than results controls. The analysis of this system leads to insights about some of the factors that limit the feasibility of results controls. Second, the case can lead into a discussion of what is meant by the term tight control. Drop is a measure of the gambling activity at the tables, but negative drop variances cannot be taken to mean that the dealers were not productive. The drop is dependent on the table s minimum and the number and type of players who chose to play at that table on that shift. To illustrate, ask if the drop results for blackjack Table 19 in Exhibit 12 (variance percentage of −28.52) suggest that the dealers on that table that day were doing something poorly (e.g., slow dealing) or dishonestly (stealing money before it was put into the drop box)? If managers wanted to check the details of what happened at that table that day, they could examine a videotape of the action. The results measures are more reliable, the larger the increment of the casino being measured (e.g., an entire shift vs. a single table) and the longer the periods of time involved; hence, the GCB s requirement to investigate, on a monthly basis, all statistical fluctuations by game type in excess of ±5% resulting from the comparison of the previous calendar year to that of the current month. • 28. The Segregation Of The South Segregation in the South Introduction According to Merriam Webster the word segregation was first known to be used in 1555. It is defined as the separation or isolation of a race, class, or ethnic group by enforcing or voluntary residence in a restricted area, by barriers to social intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other discriminatory means. The United States underwent vast transformations, especially in the South. New political, social, and economic systems emerged that transformed the South from a rural, slave based society, to an increasingly urban, industrialized, free labor society. The changes to the social, political, and economic landscape of the South prompted an unprecedented era of racial violence throughout the region (Jett, p.40). The Southern states deemed slavery was crucial to safeguard white superiority. Most Southern whites who had aspirations of becoming a very prominent slave owner, were terrified of a society with considerable numbers of African Americans who were not slaves. Segregation moved by way of public accommodations, all the way through the South. DeFina Hannon (2011) and others showed daily interactions of whites and blacks in the South, during reconstruction of the south identified racial prejudices were increasing steadily, after the Civil War and especially during the 1880 s. In his 1941 oil on canvas painting, Bust of a Woman (Dora Maar), Picasso looked to his muse once again for inspiration. Neither one of Picasso s most famous, nor best paintings, Bust of a Woman still tells a story of the time and place of a tumultuous artist muse relationship encapsulated by Picasso s surrealist expression in Nazi occupied France during World War II. On its face, Bust of a Woman appears secular Dora Maar is not obviously representative of any sort of entity. However, Picasso did place her on a pedestal for a time and I wonder if he intentionally back lit her, painting the light around her head and hair to depict a light aura or halo effect (Picasso). The light is different, the lines along the outside of the hand are not crisp and it even appears as if the paint is running a bit something that such a deliberate artist would seem to notice (Picasso). • 30. How The Different Mixing Methods Affected The Final Volume... Figure one shows how the different mixing methods affected the final volume of the mayonnaise. It is expected that as the mixing methods gained speed and applied more shear force, the mayonnaise would have more volume. This was seen in the data. The biggest volume of mayonnaise achieved was done by a blender and by a homogenizer. The blender that yielded a low volume product was because the emulsion broke, which explains why a large volume was not seen. The high speed homogenizer also had problems with the mayo, which explains their low volume yield. A mayonnaise made with a lot of shear force is expected to have a greater volume because the higher the sheer force, the smaller the oil droplets would be. This means that there were smaller oil droplets which allowed more total droplets to be incorporated into the mayonnaise. More droplets leads to a higher volume because there is more surface area in the mixture of the internal and external phase. The emulsion also remained stable due to the smaller droplets, which will be looked at in detail later. Since the mayo was more stable, none of the emulsion broke during the time between preparing the mayonnaise for analysis and when it was actually analyzed. Overall, the results seen in figure one were generally expected. Figure two shows the effect of different mixing methods and their effect on various texture indicators of the mayonnaise. These indicators were thickness, viscosity, and separation. It is expected that the higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Somatic cell nuclear transfer is a technique for cloning in which the nucleus is removed from a healthy egg. This egg becomes the host for a nucleus that is transplanted from another cell, such as a skin cell. The Greek Empire occurred before the Romans and when compared to the Roman Empire, seems to be modest, not as great. The Greeks did not have as much conquered lands, which lessens their power. What they did have conquered was divided into parts amongst different rulers, who were constantly at war with each other, lacking the peace that Pax Romana had. The conquered Greek lands did not have a chance to civilize as one great empire as the Romans had. The Byzantine Empire followed the Roman Empire, and it, also, seems meager in comparison. • 34. Summary Between Lord Of The Glies And Lord Of The Flies Early man set up civilizations so future generations could live in peace and survive in their surroundings. As early man developed civilizations, they contained five characteristics. Three of the five are complex institutions, specialized workers, and record keeping. Complex institutions are organizations like government and religious organizations. Specialized workers are people like teachers, soldiers, and priests. Finally, cuneiform tablets were used in record keeping to keep track of rules and trade. The characters in Lord of the Flies mirror early man s development through complex institutions, specialized workers and record keeping. The boys in the novel Lord of the Flies mirror the development of early man through complex institutions when they appoint a chief. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying: No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno, sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Death comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea during the time prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain situation but still agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng He and Charles Wyville Thomson, commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew members towards death with the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000 Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). • 46. King Lear, By William Shakespeare William Shakespeare s tragic play King Lear is a play that occupies a critical place in the great playwright s cannon. Harold Bloom noted that it, along with Hamlet, can be thought of as a kind of secular scripture or mythology . If we accept Bloom s reading, then it becomes possible to read the play as a kind of a parable and to read it s symbolism in terms of the way that those symbols have been teased out in scripture and in mythology. In particular, this essay will consider how blindness functions as a symbol that puts the play in conversation with scripture and myth. Blindness in King Lear elicits the kind of sympathy that biblical references to blindness engender. Alternatively, references to blindness in mythology are not meant to speak about care and generosity but rather as punishment. Shakespeare blends both the scriptural significance of blindness and the mythological symbolism to create two characters, Lear and Gloucester whose ignorance Shakespeare figures through metaphors of sight, vision and blindness. As such, Shakespeare both incites Christian pity for these men who lack the ability to see what is before them, while invoking the quid pro quo moralism of myth that figures blindness as a punishment for bad behaviour. Foakes notes that [King Lear] is not located in time (p. 82). He points out that it refers through to the primitive world of gods while at the same time evidences scriptural quotes in the mouths of the characters. As such the play sees both ... • 48. Louis Le Vau And Claude Perrault s Curvilinear Design For... one that was a signature for associated with his name, which set the structure apart. Another major turning point for the French classicism design is when, Louis XIV rejected Giovanni Bernini s curvilinear design for the east facade of the Louvre in favor of Louis Le Vau and Claude Perrault s more classicizing design with its celebrated colonnade (1667 70) (Spicer, 2001). This decision set the French apart from the adopted form of Italian baroque, rejecting the exuberant behavior of common Italian practices during the time period. During the seventeenth century, the common practice for important building design was to include all prominent art forms in the research and development. We can see this happen in popular buildings such as the Louvre, where Louis Le Vau and Claude Perrault designed portions in unison. Arguably the most important building to come out of the mid seventeenth century is the Palace of Versailles outside of Paris. The designers Le Vau, Mansart, Le Brun, and Andre Le Notre all worked in conjunction to complete everything from the building design to the colossal gardens and fountains. Another notable feature of the early seventeenth century is the emergence of dignified, attractive city squares. A strong example of such square is the Palace of Vosges in Paris, constructed in the early seventeenth century, incorporated a King s house, Queen s house, and a handful of steeply pitched roofed buildings to form the square for festivities. Constructed of stucco ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Archetypes In The Importance Of Being Earnest By Oscar Wilde An archetype is a character, an action, or a situation that seems to represent universal patterns of human nature such as Hercules going on a hero s journey to conquer the evil villians and achieve a god like status (Archetype). The journey and challenges he faces lead him into a heroic ending and saving a damsel in distress. Similarly, in The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, the characters face a journey of self discovery through varying archetypes. Jack Worthing is a dreamer, Cecily and Gwendolen struggle to play the innocent child role, and Ernest is prince charming. The archetypes portrayed in The Importance of Being Earnest epitomize a journey with self discovery and a resolution worth defending. Jack Worthing lived a double life where his alter ego was Ernest Worthing. This alter identity lived in the city and acted as a gentleman to impress a young lady named Gwendolen. Jack s true identity resided in the country caring for Cecily. Cecily believed that Ernest was Jack s troubled brother, therefore it was comprehensible that Jack would leave the country suddenly to go to the city to visit his brother. Jack s double life had remained secret until Algernon discovered a cigarette case with Jack s name on it, forcing Jack to reveal that his name is Ernest in town and Jack in the country, and the cigarette case was given to [him] in the country (Wilde 12). The alter identity developed by Jack was merely a dream. The dreamer archetype allows dreamers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
