Analyzing Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Introduction The Gulf of Mexico is a valuable nationwide treasure. Its natural deposits water, fish,
beaches, reefs, marshes, oil and gas are the financial engine of the area. USDC (2012) asserts that the
Gulf of Mexico is similarly essential to the whole country as an abundant source of meals, energy and
entertainment. The Gulf Coast s distinct culture and natural charm are world renowned. There is no
location like it anywhere else on Earth (USDC, 2012). USDC (2012) reports that on April 20, 2010
examinations of the world concentrated on an oil platform in the Gulf, around 50 miles off the
Louisiana coastline. The mobile drilling unit Deepwater Horizon, which was being made used to drill
an experimental well for BP Exploration and Production, Inc. (BP), violently blew up, ignited and at
some point sank, tragically eliminating 11 employees. However that was just the start of the
catastrophe. Oil and various other compounds from the rig and the well started streaming unabated
around one mile below the area. Preliminary efforts to cap the wells were not successful, and for 87
days oil ejected unmonitored and uncontrolled into the Gulf. Oil soon enough covered a huge location
of hundreds of square miles, and held by the tides and currents reached the coastline, contaminating
beaches, bays, estuaries and marshes from the Florida panhandle to west of the Mississippi River
delta. At the height of the spill, around 37 % of the open water in the Gulf was closed to fishing.

Methods and Myths of Traditional African Medicines and its...
Methods and Myths of Traditional African Medicines and its Place in Modern Society Traditional
African medicines, and the spiritual healers that administer these medicines are an important part of
African society. For many centuries and even millenniums these healers with there spiritual and
naturalistic remedies have been responsible for taking care of the African world as we know it.
Traditional African medicines have been a greater help to all of society and modern science, but still
lie at the root of much controversy over its ability to be a valid healing tool. Some doctor s and
scientist believe that a possible placebo effect may be the root of what makes these remedies and
rituals work; but there is also evidence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Becoming a traditional healer requires an intense amount of SBA, an ancient Kemetic word meaning
teaching, learning, wisdom, and study, or overall deep thought(1). In fact, the process of learning to
become a healer consist of a very high level of learning; it is necessary that every healer be taught
properly, in order for him or her to be able to share his knowledge properly with the forthcoming
generation. For the aspiring healer, one must first become a good learner and listener before one can
become a good teacher; the two concepts of teaching and learning are intertwined, one hand washes
the other. Once this level of SBA is reached as a healer, the whole world is seen in a different light so
says Asa G. Hilliard. III. Sounds are heard that no one can hear, visions that no one else can see are
seen by the healer. After his training the healer walks through the same world every person walks
through. But he sees signs others just don t see. He hears sounds others don t hear. The same tree that
just stands there dumbly to everyone, to the healer its leaves have something to say. The healer learns
the meaning of the river s sound, of the sounds of the forest animals. And when he needs the curing
spirit from a plant , if his eyes are well prepared , he may see from a great distance some small sign of
a leaf that is ready

Aims and Development of the Penal System Within the Uk...
Discuss the aims and development of the penal system within the UK over the last 200 years. In this
essay I will be looking at the key developments of the British penal system since the early nineteenth
century. I will also discuss how the main objectives of the prison system have changed over this
period of time. The earliest origins of imprisonment was the use of holding defendants prior to trial
and dates back to the 9th century. This early form of incarceration was not designed as a form of
punishment, rather it was reserved for individuals unable to provide surety for loans or behaviour. The
majority of these individuals were held within country gaols, although there were some purpose built
gaols such as Tower and Fleet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the terms of the Act were often ignored and they only covered the main prisons and not the
smaller gaols or debtor s prisons (Todd, 2002, p.118). By now the number of prisoners was increasing
partly due to the decline in other forms of punishment, such as the stocks and branding, which were
now viewed as outdated. Nevertheless many people still believed that prison should be concerned with
punishment and deterrence, rather than the rehabilitation of criminals which was viewed as costly
(Todd, 2002, p.119). In 1842 Pentonville prison was built using the panopticon design. This meant that
each prisoner was now held in their own individual cell. Pentonville operated on the ‘separate system
which involved almost total solitary confinement and elements such as education and work were
largely ignored (www.howardleague.org/studycentre/historyofprison.htm). Support for the separate
system declined in the second half of the 19th century and was gradually replaced by the ‘silent
system . The silent system was introduced in 1865 and was originally used in America. Prisoners were
still kept in solitary confinement for the first nine months and in addition were also forced to do ‘hard
labour . Hard labour consisted of pointless unproductive work designed to deter prisoners from re
offending. One of the main

Compare And Contrast The Anglo Saxon Period And Present Day
Analyzing Yesterday s and Today s
The Anglo Saxon Period and Present Day
Travelling back in time to the period that is traditionally known as the dark ages; the time of war and
battles against the Vikings which was new invaders back then; the Anglo Saxon period has many
different aspects that are somehow unique to us. Such as how they have a different language the Old
English or how they greatly value the values of heroism, generosity and blood vengeance which
cannot be almost seen in the present time. There are many aspects that they have before, but we will
not focus on that. Instead, we will closely analyze the fact that by comparing it to the present day, we
can observe tremendous differences like how the power of woman was elevated somehow today, the
differences in our language, the Modern English to their language, Old English, how the leader or the
king should act before and even the dissimilarity in the social hierarchy. But is the change in these
aspects towards positivity? Or is it towards negativity? Are we really improving as they say? ... Show

In this current society, the levels of both male and female genders are somehow not even. Many
women are still fighting for the rights that they should have had but was chained to by society and
their belief that Men are superior to women . Another thing is how the social hierarchy divides us.
Instead of having a united community, we are divided into the lower, middle and higher class. In my
opinion, I would like a nation that has a society that is equal, no elevated positions in terms of money
and possession or in other terms a society where no one fights for money. But in the past periods
specifically the Anglo Saxon period, women had it worst and even the social hierarchy before had
been deeply planted into their civilization that no one can say no

The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period...
Esau Quiroz
Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are
various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be
examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal
interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a
time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to
demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe
Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate
notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern
day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal
interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the
modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need
to be the largest militarily.
Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815
and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation
state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long
as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal

Video Game Reflection Paper
When I was little, I loved to try lots of new things. Games, toys, candy; but I had never heard of video
games. Until one day on the bus, my neighbor told me that he had a Wii. I had seen commercials for it,
and it looked fun. Originally I never wanted one because it was so expensive. That night when I went
over to his house, my life would never be the same. Later that day I went over to his house. Ordinarily
we run around, shoot each other with face guns, and do other things like that. I was getting antsy
though, so we went inside after only 45 minutes. We got inside and then I saw it, the white Wii sitting
on the entertainment center next to the TV. What games do you have? I asked.
The only game I have is Mario Kart, he replied, so that is what we played. Since I had never played it
before I was terrible. Three games in a row, I got 12th out of 12. After, about an hour of playing I
started to notice that I was passing the computers (other racers) and getting 7th 4th place on average.
Nevertheless, I soon had to leave, but I was much better than when I started.
Besides having so much fun on the Wii, I rarely got to play on it. I had played on it here and there, but
not a lot. I kept asking my parents for a Wii, they only said no, but then when it got closer to
Christmas they started to tantalize me by answering with maybe for Christmas. That got me very
excited. That year I was probably on my best behavior ever. On the day of Christmas I kind of forgot

The Theme Of Language In The Red Sari By Apirana Taylor
Describe an important idea in a text or texts you have studied. Explain how the writer used language
features to make that idea seem important.
In the short story The Red Sari by Apriana Taylor, there are many themes being conveyed in the story,
the most prominent being the cultural conflict and tension between the narrator and the Indian
beggars. Language features play a vital role in the story, and Taylor uses language features to convey
his important ideas and messages to the reader.
In The Red Sari, Apirana Taylor also shows that cultural differences can lead to misunderstanding and
discomfort. He uses the first person narrative to show his actions and thoughts. The narrator, who is a
foreigner presumably visiting India, is trapped in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The line, Someone carries off the road an arm and a sopping red sari. Christ, if they want the other
arm, they ll have to look under that car. That crunched up concertina car wearing a traffic light for a
hat paints a vivid image inside the reader s mind on the severity of the car crash. We can infer from
these lines that very few people cared about the car crash except for the people who helped. Negative
connotations and metaphors help paint a picture in the reader s mind of the scene. The words crunched
up concertina and the metaphor wearing a traffic light for a hat both show evidently how the car had
been damaged in the accident. Overall, the use of vivid imagery to portray the severity of the car crash
scene helps me to understand the theme of cultural differences, with the citizens of New Delhi caring

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives.
This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book
Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be
in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire
instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to
power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to
power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is
one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to
power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible
character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the
will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the
reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of
self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to
discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most
frequent results. This

Equally the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One are home video game consoles. The PlayStation 4 was
developed by Sony Computer Entertainment while Microsoft developed the Xbox One. These two
consoles, as well as the Nintendo Wii U, are part of the eighth generation of video game consoles. The
differences that could be discussed between this two consoles are the costs, the internal storage, and
the changes made to the controllers. The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One prices appear to be
somehow similar. Initially, the Xbox One with Kinect was retailed for $500; however, they launched a

Satire In Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire wrote Candide in 1759. When reading Candide, you will notice that it has a satirical tone. It is
a satirical piece because of its syntax, irony, paradox, and diction. In this particular quote from
Voltaire s Candide, we see the old woman s point of view. Throughout the book, we see the character
Candide and his loved ones enjoying wealth and possessions. The chosen quote implies one having
money, friends, and security but still not being emotionally secure in life. This passage shows that, as
people, we not only struggle with humanity, racism, discrimination and oppression, but we also suffer
from our inner demons. These negative thoughts can affect the relationships we are in, and even worse
it can interfere with our peace of mind.
When they were not arguing, the boredom was so fierce that one day the old woman ventured to say: I
should like to know which is worse, being raped a hundred times by negro pirates, having a buttock
cut off, running the gauntlet in the Bulgar army, being flogged and hanged in an auto da fé, being
dissected and rowing in the galleys experiencing, in a word, all the miseries through which we have
passed or else just sitting here and doing nothing (411)? These words clearly show wit and satire. In
this passage, the reader experiences shock that the author would compare having a buttock cut off ...

They need to feel attention, whether it is welcoming or unwelcoming. The characters cannot seem to
find a way to escape their flaws. An example of this is when Candide and Cacambo chose to leave
Eldorado, the paradise (388). From the reader s perspective, this decision seems foolish, but this
decision can be from the author s past experiences. Would the pester of boredom have been as
torturous in Eldorado as it was in Constantinople? No, but the characters were too greedy and would
rather be rich than happy, which is a message the author was trying to convey about human

Taking a Look at Radio Communication
One of the most important contributions to communication is the invention of radio communication. It
has provided a platform for wireless cellular communication. According to an article, it was first
believed that The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and waterways, supplementing the
wireless telegraph over short distances (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If only he knew that wireless telegraph
will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio communication system was developed by
Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist (Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi
never had any formal scientific education (Bababian, 1992), but has been the recipient of honorary
doctorates of several universities (Guglielmo Marconi Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began
experimenting with electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old. However, Nikola
Tesla is now credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court
overturned Marconi s patent in 1943 in favour of Tesla. (Bellis, n.d., para. 6) . In the 1930 s radios
were commonly found in households as a source for entertainment and news. Since then, radio
technology has advanced significantly since its early days, especially to the sound quality and it s
ability to travel great distances. This form of entertainment is supported by the use of carrier waves.
These waves travel at the speed of light (Abbot and Rider, 1957). Carrier waveforms are the different

Benefits Of The Bedtime Stories
Surprising Benefits of the Bedtime Stories Throughout the years parents have asked themselves if
their child s night time routine, specifically the bedtime stories, are worth it. Nights would be so
trouble free if we could just tuck them in and go. But as appealing as that sounds, it s hard to imagine
a childhood without those fantastic and vivid tales. Whether it s a board book or a chapter book, there
s something about the old smell and the perfectly thought out stories that can bring back a whirlwind
of memories. That s why it is so hard to believe, that in some areas of the world and even parts of the
U.S, people would deny children the joys of reading. As society becomes more technology based and
paper books become scarce, the importance of reading to children (of any ages) becomes largely
apparent. Some studies even suggest reading is beneficial as early as in utero. Listening to a parent or
family member read aloud for even 10 minutes a day, has been linked to helping children develop
crucial language and reading skills, form closer bonds with their parents or family members, and
expand their emotional compacities. So, while these stories and fairy tales may seem trivial and
unrealistic to adults, they have a very different effect on the growing and developing minds of the
children in our lives.
In the world of today s tech savvy society; worrying if your child will gain the proper reading and

Project schedule change The deadline for the completion of the project remains unchanged 4 months,

Specifically, the following two issues have aroused to generate new complexities: The permits have

Persuasive Speech About Sports
As Kobe Bryant said; Sports are such a great teacher. I think of everything they taught me:
commodity, humility, and how to resolve differences . (Kobe Bryant). Sports are all over the world
and range from many activities such as hockey, basketball, football, cricket, swimming, and bowling. I
as a youth participated in many different sports including volleyball, basketball, soccer, golf, tennis,
and gymnastics and with all of these sports I was able to grow my confidence, determination, and
leadership that I now carry with me through life. All children benefit by being involved in a sport at
some point in their life. Today I will discuss the Health, social and psychological benefits and
Educational benefits that come from children participating in sports. Not every sport is for every child
and not everyone is amazing at sports, but all children should experience sports and find a sport they
love. With sports children can grow into healthy and athletic adults as well as successful humans with
high positivity in physical activity. Sports enhances the physical and mental developments of children
and aids their growth as they get older and become adults
I. Children grow with the help of sports. Children s health, social, and psychological benefits are
adapted at higher rates with the participation of sports. Sports positively affects aspects of children s
development with themselves and their esteem, others around them, the idea of working towards a

Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead,
the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets
individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will
not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has
been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software
for businesses (Hoge, 2012).
Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic
Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to the strategic,
looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and utilizing the
human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998).
Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and
execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel part
of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and co
workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost all
stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee Empowerment,
2011).

Compare And Contrast Italian And Renaissance Art
Anna Jacoby
AP European History
Ms. Sennett
September 2017
Italian vs. Northern Renaissance Art During the Renaissance, the people of Europe experienced a
rebirth of culture and study of classical antiquity. New ideas arose that transformed every aspect of
European life. Beginning in Italy, the Renaissance spread northward to the rest of Europe. Italy had
the advantage of not being hit by the Black Death or the Hundred Years War, in comparison to the rest
of Europe, and therefore was able to trade to Asia and maintain prosperous cities during the Middle
Ages. The Italians, as a result, had merchants who were proud of their success in business, which they
believed was possible because of their merit as an individual. The merchants were able to fuel the
Renaissance in Italy by commissioning artists and writers to produce specific works. Northern Europe
still needed to recover from the Black Death and Hundred Years War to gain political and economic
stability to have a Renaissance. While both the Italians and Northern Europeans went through a
Renaissance, they experienced the Renaissance differently, and the similarities and differences
between their experiences in terms of how they each developed the ideals of humanism,
individualism, and secularism is evident in Renaissance artists works, specifically Michelangelo s
David and van Eyck s The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. Humanists of the Italian Renaissance
worked to understand human nature by studying classic

Character, Morals, Integrity Essay
Character, Morals, Integrity
Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the question is, do you have them. A
man named Dwight Moody once said, Character is what you are in the dark. You cannot see your
morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their
own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence
to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and
morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how
your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it.

Laura stated, integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you have
integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it. You can now see that character,
morals, and integrity are very important.
Secondly, people may think that their values may not affect them, but they re wrong, they affect them
a lot. Since character describes how you are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character
could make people dislike you because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character,
then more people would see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you.
Morals sort of describe the way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down
the drain, while having good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals.
Integrity is also very important. Having bad integrity could make you very non trustworthy to others.
Having good integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are,
you should always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity.
Also, there are many causes for how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of
course be yourself. By hanging out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have
good values. Yet hanging out with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad
values. Another cause may

changes in the manner of trading. The need for something intrinsically useful and easily applicable in
everyday dealing is clearly felt. Cash in the form of currency notes and coins makes up just one form
of the payment system. Development in banking while also giving inputs to the further development

Discrimination and Misrepresentation of Minority Races in Film
Racists often believe that alternative races are inferior. Stuart Hall, an expert in the field of cultural
studies who is also interested in media studies, believes that it is difficult to completely eliminate race
as a floating signifier because it is impossible to remove the obvious physical differences of distinct
races. These distinctions are made increasingly aware by filmmakers to their audiences in such films
as West Side Story, Birth of a Nation, Gringo in Mananaland, and the Four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse. Even when films were silent movies, The technology of film entertainment was so

Greaser was used to refer to Mexicans who supposedly had used grease to comb their hair, but soon it
spread to incorporate other Hispanic groups as well. Racial epithets were commonly used and
construed into the plots of films, and minority racial groups tended to be increase the profit in film
sales (Keller 13). These epithets were reinforced to define a characteristic style of stereotyping by
playing on the attitudes that predominated among Anglo filmmakers and their white audiences (Keller
14).
Two particular silent films both exemplify how stereotypes have played on racist Anglo American
attitudes: the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Birth of a Nation. The Four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse, shows how minority groups are kept as subjects to Anglos. For example, several camera
shots showed how this was thought to be true. A monkey, to which African Americans have been
commonly referred then and even now, is shown climbing a stick, and a white bird is perched at the
peak of the stick, pecking at the monkey to keep him from climbing up the stick. This scene has
several intentions. For one, it depicts how Anglo Americans do not and will not accept the coming up
of racial inferiors , or rather they will do everything in their power to keep blacks down or keep them
from climbing the social ladder to equality. As Stuart Hall had mentioned, there will always exist

Mao s The Cultural Revolution Essay
This rise of Mao as seen through such events, foreshadowed the official beginning of the Cultural
Revolution in May 1966. Mao s famous swim in the Yangtxe river in July that year, was covered
massively by press and the act was a piece of political theatre that had been specifically designed to
prove that he was strong and fit to rule China. This is an obvious display of the propaganda Mao used
in his pursuit of restoring his rule and gaining power. Despite his incentives for beginning the Cultural
Revolution being questioned by many, he justified his actions with his ideology of permanent
revolution. Michael Lynch is in agreement with this justification, arguing that Mao unleashed the
Cultural Revolution to ensure the continuation of the China he d created. However, this position has
been controversial with Jung Chang, author of Wild Swans alternatively arguing that Mao
brainwashed the nation to regain his power. Mao s thirst for power certainly did contribute to the
Cultural Revolution as the event was orchestrated to purge his enemies. His power lust was a key and
possibly the most important cause of the Cultural Revolution. Despite dispute over Mao s motivations
for the Cultural Revolution, it is evident that Mao was determined to regain the political power and
influence, which he had lost after the failed great leap forwards.
The Cultural Revolution (1966 to1976) had far reaching social and cultural consequences for Chinese
culture, people and education . The

Descriptive Essay On Hunting
INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that innocent
animal give it s life to me. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted forever.
Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be
pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person
forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it s head
down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an
innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever.
BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and
fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night s dusting that blanketed the landscape
like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That means
no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pull the trigger.
I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer
come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over
many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet below.
It was a frightening height. Pull your gun up. I ll work my way back around to try and push some deer

Clarence Thomas Accomplishments
What does it take to become a Supreme Court Justice in the United States? It doesn t matter what race
you are; which neighborhood you grew up in or how much you have. From living in a predominately
black town, and not know where his next meal is going to coming from, Clarence Thomas has proven
that all barriers can be overcame. He was the second African American to serve on the court. Thomas
served as a Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from
1990 to 1991. After Thurgood Marshall (the first African American to serve on the court) announced
his retirement, President George W. Bush elected Thomas to become a candidate for the position.
Clarence Thomas has been serving on the Supreme Court for twenty six years. As of February. 22,

The Adherence Of Taking Antiretroviral
The adherence in the consumption of taking Antiretroviral (ARV) medication in adolescents and
young adults with HIV/AIDS are often disturbed by different factors. Studies suggest that adolescents
respond poorly to highly active antiviral therapy. (Nachega et al., 2009). Factors such as daily routine,
personal mental health, negligence, and understanding of the illness shall be addressed. Alongside the
assistance of research on this topic, this essay will outline the elements that affect the adherence to
ARV treatment in young adults with HIV/AIDS.
The treatment of ARV medication in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS is one that is the most
commonly used. The goal of the ARV therapy (ART) is to constantly suppress the replication of HIV
cells in the body, in order for the person to live a maintainable healthy life. An adolescent is a person
who is in the current development from a child to an adult. In this stage of development adolescents
are described as being in a stage of mental, physical, and emotional maturation. Some problems they
are faced with are; risk taking, an increased amount of sexual relationships, recreational drug use,
alcohol, behavioral experimentation and identity formation. (Kim, Gerver, Fidler, Ward, 2014). Thus
adolescents are by nature still finding their feet and still developing their maturity, this increases the
influence of external factors that affects their ART and therefore increases the adherence in the
consumption of their ARV s.

The Principles Of Knowledge Management Principles
Knowledge Management Principles
The twelve Knowledge Management Principles are aimed at leading individuals to apply key Army
principles to their decisions and incorporate them into the actions that they undertake. Out of these
twelve principles, the two that appear to be the most critical would be the first and third principles,
which apply to the training of leaders, managers, and champions on knowledge management
principles and creating an environment in which collaboration can occur on the basis of knowledge
management.
First Principle
The first principle that is associated with Knowledge Management is that of training leaders,
champions, and managers on being able to incorporate these principles into their actions and decision
making. This principle essentially allows the U.S. Army to frame logistics [and other types of]
knowledge holistically (Paparone, 2008, p. 39). The knowledge regarding how to manage actual
knowledge and information needs to begin somewhere, and education and training appear to be the
best place to start in order to create a sound foundation for this knowledge to be build up and
constructed further. Proper and sufficient education and knowledge also allows the organization to
ensure that all staff members, based on their rank and level within the organization, have the needed
knowledge to carry out their assigned tasks and responsibilities, without any obstacles.
This principle is critical for enabling Senior Warrant Staff Officers to perform

The Wizarding Gene
The wizarding gene is not passed down in blood like how it is explained in the books. It is a gene,
copied in families that carry the recessive code. A gene is informally defined as a unit of heredity that
is transferred from a parent to offspring and determines some characteristics of the offspring (CITE).
An Allele is one of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the
same place on a chromosome. To be a wizard, a person must be born Homozygous Recessive,
meaning their DNA must have two copies of the same gne, but not a dominant alelle. If the gene for
magic was an M , their code would appear as mm. A real life example of this would be eye color. A
blue eyed person is homozygous recessive, and if they were to inherit one dominant, brown ... Show

Because one can be a wizard with only one gene expression, the trait could be sex linked, passed
down through the X and Y chromosomes that determine our gender. In modern science, it wasa
determined that sex lined genes passed through the X chromosome were not recessive nor dominant;
just sex linked. (Dobyns 11). Because there were previous studies on sex linked traits, like how two
parents with color blindnesss (recessive) have a daughter or son, they could also inherit color blindess
(CITE). Because of new studies showing that the x linked traits to not follow the same rules as normal
inheritance, the original theory presented in this paper holds true. The number of female and male
wizards is proportional, but if the trait was sex linked, then every family with any wizarding genes
would have all boys born become wizards, while only females who were born to two wizard parents
could have magic. Because this is not true in the book, as seen with the number of half blood and
muggle born female witches, readers can know that the trait is not sex

Psalm 24
Next, with the capacity to divaricate into three distinct thought components, Psalm 24 actually has
congruence, as it covers a sequential range of actions which include declaration, preparation and
finally praise. It is also considered to be a liturgical psalm due to the manner of wording and
conveyance of access requirements with regard to being fit to enter the temple for worship unto God
(Varughese, n.d., p. 7). One course of thought among scholars and commentators for this psalm, is that
it likely embodies the time when the David brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed edom
into the city of David with gladness (2 Samuel 6:12, New American Standard Bible; Kidner, 2014, p.

As mentioned previously, within this psalm, there are three distinct strophes, or stanzas, in view.
Bullock (2005) noted that, at the heart of Hebrew poetry is a device called parallelism (p. 36). Several
instances of parallelism are found in Psalm 24, and especially in the first two strophes. For example,
in the first distich, we see David proclaiming that The earth is the Lord s, and all it contains, the
world, and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1, King James Version). These two units are an example of
synonymous parallelism, which Bullock (2005) noted as meaning that the thought pattern in one line
conforms to the pattern in the successive line (p. 36, BULLOCK, PARAPHRASE THIS). Next, in
verses three and four, we find the psalmist using a form of synthetic parallelism, which involves the
second line solving or completing the thought of the first line (Owensboro Community and Technical
College, n.d., para. 7). This can be seen in verse three when David asks the questions Who may ascend
into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place and then answers in the next verse with
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not
sworn deceitfully (Psalm 24:3 4, King James

International Trade Law Flexibilities And Their Utilization
3. International Trade Law Flexibilities and their Utilization in Africa
Thirty nine African states are in the WTO. These states have the duty to comply with the WTO
treaties, which among others includes the TRIPS Agreement. The Agreement requires states to respect
the rights of patent holders over their products. Accordingly, only the patent owner has an exclusive
right to make, use, to offer for sale, sell, or import the product. Nevertheless, amendments to the
TRIPS Agreement issued exceptions that favor the public health needs of least developed countries.
Among the thirty nine WTO member states from Africa twenty four are direct beneficiaries of these
flexibilities as they are included in the Least Developed Country list of the UN. Four of the exceptions
to the TRIPS Agreement and their use in Africa are discussed below.
3.1. Compulsory License
As per the main TRIPS Agreement the government of the country where the patent is registered was
allowed to authorize the supply of the product only for domestic market without the consent of the
patent owner. Amendment to the TRIPS agreement introduced the compulsory license exception,
which allows countries to allow production and sale of patented pharmaceutical products to least
developed countries, and to countries that requested the application of compulsory license exception,
without the patent holder s consent.
Utilization of compulsory license requires proper regulation and planning from governments of both

Abortions
The word, abortion has currently flooded every single corner of the social media and hence, it is no
surprise that we are seeing this word everywhere. Abortion is a medical method used to end a
pregnancy and terminate the fetus that has formed in a female s uterus. According to an Internet
dictionary called Merriam Webster, the definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy that
results in the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first

Before delving deeper into the history and current debates over abortions, it is important to look at the
fact of its existence in the United States. According to studies released in 2005 by the Physicians for
Reproductive Choice and Health (PRCH) and The Guttmacher Institute, there were 1.29 million
abortions performed in this country. Research by the same group shows that in 1994, approximately
half of all pregnancies in the United States were unintended, with only about half of those actually
ending in abortion. In comparison to other countries, the U.S. accounted for three percent of
worldwide abortions in 1995 (PRCH and Guttmacher). As we can see from these statistics, the number
of abortions has been significantly increased. Millions of unborn babies are terminated out of their
choice because of abortion. This is not a good way of resolving the unwanted or unexpected
pregnancy and method should be practiced in reducing the number of abortions. In order to know
more about abortion, a historical explanation on this topic is necessary. There are different reasons
abortions are being performed and knowing them is one of the best ways to get a deeper insight

because you must know about the vehicle s exact condition, instead of relying on the information

A vehicle repair history check tells you about the history of any repairs done on the vehicle. It also

vehicle was not repaired in the dealer s workshop, then it is advisable to ask the seller. The seller

have to visit the workshop. These workshops have the records of the vehicles repaired there, in a
computerized form. You just have to give them the VIN and they will tell you about the vehicle s

However, the best way of discovering a vehicle s repair history is to carry out a complete vehicle

I do recommend the yield of this study and the satisfaction that the employee had, but I do prefer to

those who did not follow the schedules. However, researchers should have asked those freaking nurses
about their impression in order to know the reasons. Reasons might be some thing between them and
the nurse manager which could be handled easily by third party.
Agreement OR disagreement
The study was implemented only in one unit that consists of high numbers of nurses. However, I
would have preferred to run this study in two different units in order to have precise result, and
compare the data from both units.
Self scheduling did not work for everyone and there were some nurses wanted to ruin it for every one.
I would have preferred that these observation or opinions were held with those nurses who were not
abeyance to the self scheduling study. There could be social problems, work problems or even there
might be no harmony between them and their manager.
Another point, I noted that the sick calls remained steady and did not change. In my opinion, there
should have been decreased sick calls but the study did not indicate clearly about the reasons for sick
calls. Thus couple things come in my mind, did sick calls come from the same staff for the previous
years? Did they have social problems or were seasonal sick

Essay on Why William Won the Battle of Hastings
Why William Won the Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings in 1066 saw Harold the king of England defeated by William, Duke of
Normandy. It was a great victory for William, he became King of England and was called William the
Conqueror. There were many reasons for William s victory such as religious support, a well prepared
army, weather, more effective weapons and most importantly superior tactics. Another important
factor, which occurs in most battles in history, is that of luck. Throughout the battle it seemed that
William was more fortunate than Harold. As much as William earned victory, Harold made some bad
judgments and serious tactical mistakes.

This meant they were organized and knew what to do when the time came to set sail for England.
Everything was perfect for William except for the strong winds from the north meant it was not
possible for his fleet to cross the Channel. He and his men were so desperate that they even prayed for
a south wind. God or luck was on their side as after a thunderstorm the winds changed to a more
favourable southerly direction and they seized the opportunity and set sail. Whilst sailing to England
William s fleet got caught in a storm and they had to stop at the Somme estuary. This should have a
disaster for William but luck was on his side, as this way the crossing to England was shorter and
when he was finally able to cross, Harold was in the north of England.
William s landing was well planned and helped by intelligence gathered in the previous months by
Normans living in England. He had studied Caesar s invasion in 55 BC and was not going to make the
same mistakes that he did. For example Caesar did not take the weather over the Channel into
consideration and beached his boats in the wrong place, getting them damaged. Williams s decision to
land at Pevensey, a lagoon west of Hastings with very few people there, was important. The lagoon
provided shelter from the weather and when the

5 Significant Other Traits
In about 15 years I will more than likely have a significant other. While thinking about this I made a

house, they do not exactly have to be a tree hugger, but they need to like going outside because when I
am in the house for too long I feel like I am being suffocated. They CANNOT be a messy person. I
know that I am not the tidiest little tide pod in the box, but they have to be clean. My significant other
should also be patient. They need to understand that I am not always going to jump at the opportunity
to do a chore or something like that. I will eventually do it, just not right away. They should also be
understanding because if they aren t, then some things that I do they might not even try to comprehend

The Drug Of Drug And Alcohol Abuse Essay
The movie Trainspotting is an entertaining look into the dark world of drug and alcohol abuse. Heroin
is the drug of choice for the protagonist, but other substances are also consumed throughout the film:
heroin, prescription medication, opium, hash, amphetamines, and alcohol are a constant presence in
the story. Repeated polysubstance abuse combined with a negative social environment and a weak
support structure compounds the problems of Renton, a heroin addicted young adult man living in
Scotland. When examining the actual diagnostic criteria, causes, and treatment of drug addiction from
the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, comparisons can be made between the portrayal of addiction in
the film and reality. Familial and genetic influences, social and environmental issues, positive and
negative reinforcement, the opponent process theory, models of chemical dependence and treatment
methods are displayed throughout the film with high validity. Many different influences affect the
main character, and an integrative approach is needed to assess the maladaptive behavior of Renton.
Gratuitous use and abuse of heroin is the central theme of the film Trainspotting. Heroin is in the
opioid family of narcotics. Opioid can be used in a broad sense for natural opiates like opium,
synthetic opiates such as heroin and methadone, and the natural chemicals that occur in the brain such

Political Leaders During The War
Political leaders were also put to the test during the war. Many African Americans worked closely with
the government to both rally black support for the war and to help battle against issues such as
lynching and segregation. For example, Emmett Scott, the former secretary to to Booker T.
Washington at the Tuskegee Institute, was able to organize a conference for black newspaper editors
and political leaders in Washington, D.C. in June 1918. This conference yielded positive results. The
attendees declared their loyalty to the government. Although World War I affect people of all
demographics, those who were impacted the most directly were African Americans who were called to
fight and labor overseas. Over 200,000 African Americans went ... Show more content on

The 93rd Division s 369th Infantry Regiment from New York were nicknamed the Harlem
Hellfighters for their exemplary war efforts. Two of the soliders, Henry Johnson and Needham
Roberts, were the first ever American soldiers to receive the French War Cross. This regiment would
serve for 191 days and gave up no ground to German forces. The 92rd division had much more
stressful experiences than the 93rd. They faced more racial discrimination. The white army officials in
the 92nd division would characterize the black soldiers as rapists, and would spread rumors to French
civilians. African Americans were often viewed as threats to white authority, and many were forced to
be transferred out of the division for racial reasons. Others were also court martialed on lies told by
white officials. The 92nd division fought well as a whole, despite having inadequate training and
having to deal with racial discrimination. One regiment, the 368th Infantry Regiment however
performed poorly in the Allied Meuse Argonne offensive in September 1918 and as a result, racist
military members used this case as a way to characterize all black soldiers. They would classify them
as incompetent and failures. Postwar, African American soldiers would protest these allegations. Even
with all of the discrimination and setbacks, the service that the African Americans completed in
France was a very good experience for them, many troops would often

My career choice will be an intervention specialist with mild educational or behavioral handicapped
children. In my life I have always loved to help people who are in need that sometimes cannot help
themselves in a time of need. On December 24th, 2013 the man who had molded me into what I am,
passed away from a very long on and off battle with cancer. I was devastated when he had pasted. This
amazing man showed me to the game I fell in love with. Him passing away has given me motivation
to play a better and harder so that people could maybe remember me like they did him. While I was at
his viewing I had heard so many people tell me what a great man, coach, and teacher, he was this gave
me more motivation to become a teacher and hopefully become half the man he was

The Gulf Coast s distinct culture and natural charm are world renowned. There is no location like it anywhere else on Earth (USDC, 2012). USDC (2012) reports that on April 20, 2010 examinations of the world concentrated on an oil platform in the Gulf, around 50 miles off the Louisiana coastline. The mobile drilling unit Deepwater Horizon, which was being made used to drill an experimental well for BP Exploration and Production, Inc. (BP), violently blew up, ignited and at some point sank, tragically eliminating 11 employees. However that was just the start of the catastrophe. Oil and various other compounds from the rig and the well started streaming unabated around one mile below the area. Preliminary efforts to cap the wells were not successful, and for 87 days oil ejected unmonitored and uncontrolled into the Gulf. Oil soon enough covered a huge location of hundreds of square miles, and held by the tides and currents reached the coastline, contaminating beaches, bays, estuaries and marshes from the Florida panhandle to west of the Mississippi River delta. At the height of the spill, around 37 % of the open water in the Gulf was closed to fishing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Becoming a traditional healer requires an intense amount of SBA, an ancient Kemetic word meaning teaching, learning, wisdom, and study, or overall deep thought(1). In fact, the process of learning to become a healer consist of a very high level of learning; it is necessary that every healer be taught properly, in order for him or her to be able to share his knowledge properly with the forthcoming generation. For the aspiring healer, one must first become a good learner and listener before one can become a good teacher; the two concepts of teaching and learning are intertwined, one hand washes the other. Once this level of SBA is reached as a healer, the whole world is seen in a different light so says Asa G. Hilliard. III. Sounds are heard that no one can hear, visions that no one else can see are seen by the healer. After his training the healer walks through the same world every person walks through. In this essay I will be looking at the key developments of the British penal system since the early nineteenth century. I will also discuss how the main objectives of the prison system have changed over this period of time. The earliest origins of imprisonment was the use of holding defendants prior to trial and dates back to the 9th century. This early form of incarceration was not designed as a form of punishment, rather it was reserved for individuals unable to provide surety for loans or behaviour. The majority of these individuals were held within country gaols, although there were some purpose built gaols such as Tower and Fleet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the terms of the Act were often ignored and they only covered the main prisons and not the smaller gaols or debtor s prisons (Todd, 2002, p.118). By now the number of prisoners was increasing partly due to the decline in other forms of punishment, such as the stocks and branding, which were now viewed as outdated. Nevertheless many people still believed that prison should be concerned with punishment and deterrence, rather than the rehabilitation of criminals which was viewed as costly (Todd, 2002, p.119). In 1842 Pentonville prison was built using the panopticon design. This meant that each prisoner was now held in their own individual cell. Pentonville operated on the ‘separate system which involved almost total solitary confinement and elements such as education and work were largely ignored (www.howardleague.org/studycentre/historyofprison.htm). Support for the separate system declined in the second half of the 19th century and was gradually replaced by the ‘silent system . The silent system was introduced in 1865 and was originally used in America. Prisoners were still kept in solitary confinement for the first nine months and in addition were also forced to do ‘hard labour . Hard labour consisted of pointless unproductive work designed to deter prisoners from re offending. One of the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast The Anglo Saxon Period And Present Day Analyzing Yesterday s and Today s The Anglo Saxon Period and Present Day Travelling back in time to the period that is traditionally known as the dark ages; the time of war and battles against the Vikings which was new invaders back then; the Anglo Saxon period has many different aspects that are somehow unique to us. Such as how they have a different language the Old English or how they greatly value the values of heroism, generosity and blood vengeance which cannot be almost seen in the present time. There are many aspects that they have before, but we will not focus on that. Instead, we will closely analyze the fact that by comparing it to the present day, we can observe tremendous differences like how the power of woman was elevated somehow today, the differences in our language, the Modern English to their language, Old English, how the leader or the king should act before and even the dissimilarity in the social hierarchy. • 6. The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period... Esau Quiroz Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need to be the largest militarily. Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815 and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal ... Until one day on the bus, my neighbor told me that he had a Wii. I had seen commercials for it, and it looked fun. Originally I never wanted one because it was so expensive. That night when I went over to his house, my life would never be the same. Later that day I went over to his house. Ordinarily we run around, shoot each other with face guns, and do other things like that. I was getting antsy though, so we went inside after only 45 minutes. We got inside and then I saw it, the white Wii sitting on the entertainment center next to the TV. What games do you have? I asked. The only game I have is Mario Kart, he replied, so that is what we played. Since I had never played it before I was terrible. Three games in a row, I got 12th out of 12. After, about an hour of playing I started to notice that I was passing the computers (other racers) and getting 7th 4th place on average. Nevertheless, I soon had to leave, but I was much better than when I started. Besides having so much fun on the Wii, I rarely got to play on it. I had played on it here and there, but not a lot. I kept asking my parents for a Wii, they only said no, but then when it got closer to Christmas they started to tantalize me by answering with maybe for Christmas. That got me very excited. • 9. Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This ... It is a satirical piece because of its syntax, irony, paradox, and diction. In this particular quote from Voltaire s Candide, we see the old woman s point of view. Throughout the book, we see the character Candide and his loved ones enjoying wealth and possessions. The chosen quote implies one having money, friends, and security but still not being emotionally secure in life. This passage shows that, as people, we not only struggle with humanity, racism, discrimination and oppression, but we also suffer from our inner demons. These negative thoughts can affect the relationships we are in, and even worse it can interfere with our peace of mind. When they were not arguing, the boredom was so fierce that one day the old woman ventured to say: I should like to know which is worse, being raped a hundred times by negro pirates, having a buttock cut off, running the gauntlet in the Bulgar army, being flogged and hanged in an auto da fé, being dissected and rowing in the galleys experiencing, in a word, all the miseries through which we have passed or else just sitting here and doing nothing (411)? Nights would be so trouble free if we could just tuck them in and go. But as appealing as that sounds, it s hard to imagine a childhood without those fantastic and vivid tales. Whether it s a board book or a chapter book, there s something about the old smell and the perfectly thought out stories that can bring back a whirlwind of memories. That s why it is so hard to believe, that in some areas of the world and even parts of the U.S, people would deny children the joys of reading. As society becomes more technology based and paper books become scarce, the importance of reading to children (of any ages) becomes largely apparent. Some studies even suggest reading is beneficial as early as in utero. Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software for businesses (Hoge, 2012). Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic Human Resource Management. • 19. Compare And Contrast Italian And Renaissance Art Anna Jacoby AP European History Ms. Sennett September 2017 Italian vs. Northern Renaissance Art During the Renaissance, the people of Europe experienced a rebirth of culture and study of classical antiquity. New ideas arose that transformed every aspect of European life. Beginning in Italy, the Renaissance spread northward to the rest of Europe. Italy had the advantage of not being hit by the Black Death or the Hundred Years War, in comparison to the rest of Europe, and therefore was able to trade to Asia and maintain prosperous cities during the Middle Ages. The Italians, as a result, had merchants who were proud of their success in business, which they believed was possible because of their merit as an individual. The merchants were able to fuel the Renaissance in Italy by commissioning artists and writers to produce specific works. Northern Europe still needed to recover from the Black Death and Hundred Years War to gain political and economic stability to have a Renaissance. While both the Italians and Northern Europeans went through a Renaissance, they experienced the Renaissance differently, and the similarities and differences between their experiences in terms of how they each developed the ideals of humanism, individualism, and secularism is evident in Renaissance artists works, specifically Michelangelo s David and van Eyck s The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. Stuart Hall, an expert in the field of cultural studies who is also interested in media studies, believes that it is difficult to completely eliminate race as a floating signifier because it is impossible to remove the obvious physical differences of distinct races. These distinctions are made increasingly aware by filmmakers to their audiences in such films as West Side Story, Birth of a Nation, Gringo in Mananaland, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Greaser was used to refer to Mexicans who supposedly had used grease to comb their hair, but soon it spread to incorporate other Hispanic groups as well. Racial epithets were commonly used and construed into the plots of films, and minority racial groups tended to be increase the profit in film sales (Keller 13). These epithets were reinforced to define a characteristic style of stereotyping by playing on the attitudes that predominated among Anglo filmmakers and their white audiences (Keller 14). Two particular silent films both exemplify how stereotypes have played on racist Anglo American attitudes: the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Birth of a Nation. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, shows how minority groups are kept as subjects to Anglos. For example, several camera shots showed how this was thought to be true. A monkey, to which African Americans have been commonly referred then and even now, is shown climbing a stick, and a white bird is perched at the peak of the stick, pecking at the monkey to keep him from climbing up the stick. This scene has several intentions. For one, it depicts how Anglo Americans do not and will not accept the coming up of racial inferiors , or rather they will do everything in their power to keep blacks down or keep them from climbing the social ladder to equality. • 26. Mao s The Cultural Revolution Essay This rise of Mao as seen through such events, foreshadowed the official beginning of the Cultural Revolution in May 1966. Mao s famous swim in the Yangtxe river in July that year, was covered massively by press and the act was a piece of political theatre that had been specifically designed to prove that he was strong and fit to rule China. This is an obvious display of the propaganda Mao used in his pursuit of restoring his rule and gaining power. Despite his incentives for beginning the Cultural Revolution being questioned by many, he justified his actions with his ideology of permanent revolution. Michael Lynch is in agreement with this justification, arguing that Mao unleashed the Cultural Revolution to ensure the continuation of the China he d created. However, this position has been controversial with Jung Chang, author of Wild Swans alternatively arguing that Mao brainwashed the nation to regain his power. Mao s thirst for power certainly did contribute to the Cultural Revolution as the event was orchestrated to purge his enemies. His power lust was a key and possibly the most important cause of the Cultural Revolution. Despite dispute over Mao s motivations for the Cultural Revolution, it is evident that Mao was determined to regain the political power and influence, which he had lost after the failed great leap forwards. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted forever. Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it s head down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever. BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night s dusting that blanketed the landscape like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That means no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pull the trigger. I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet below. It was a frightening height. Pull your gun up. I ll work my way back around to try and push some deer ... The Adherence Of Taking Antiretroviral The adherence in the consumption of taking Antiretroviral (ARV) medication in adolescents and young adults with HIV/AIDS are often disturbed by different factors. Studies suggest that adolescents respond poorly to highly active antiviral therapy. (Nachega et al., 2009). Factors such as daily routine, personal mental health, negligence, and understanding of the illness shall be addressed. Alongside the assistance of research on this topic, this essay will outline the elements that affect the adherence to ARV treatment in young adults with HIV/AIDS. The treatment of ARV medication in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS is one that is the most commonly used. The goal of the ARV therapy (ART) is to constantly suppress the replication of HIV cells in the body, in order for the person to live a maintainable healthy life. An adolescent is a person who is in the current development from a child to an adult. In this stage of development adolescents are described as being in a stage of mental, physical, and emotional maturation. Some problems they are faced with are; risk taking, an increased amount of sexual relationships, recreational drug use, alcohol, behavioral experimentation and identity formation. The Principles Of Knowledge Management Principles Knowledge Management Principles The twelve Knowledge Management Principles are aimed at leading individuals to apply key Army principles to their decisions and incorporate them into the actions that they undertake. Out of these twelve principles, the two that appear to be the most critical would be the first and third principles, which apply to the training of leaders, managers, and champions on knowledge management principles and creating an environment in which collaboration can occur on the basis of knowledge management. First Principle The first principle that is associated with Knowledge Management is that of training leaders, champions, and managers on being able to incorporate these principles into their actions and decision making. This principle essentially allows the U.S. Army to frame logistics [and other types of] knowledge holistically (Paparone, 2008, p. 39). The knowledge regarding how to manage actual knowledge and information needs to begin somewhere, and education and training appear to be the best place to start in order to create a sound foundation for this knowledge to be build up and constructed further. A gene is informally defined as a unit of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and determines some characteristics of the offspring (CITE). An Allele is one of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome. To be a wizard, a person must be born Homozygous Recessive, meaning their DNA must have two copies of the same gne, but not a dominant alelle. Because one can be a wizard with only one gene expression, the trait could be sex linked, passed down through the X and Y chromosomes that determine our gender. In modern science, it wasa determined that sex lined genes passed through the X chromosome were not recessive nor dominant; just sex linked. (Dobyns 11). Because there were previous studies on sex linked traits, like how two parents with color blindnesss (recessive) have a daughter or son, they could also inherit color blindess (CITE). Because of new studies showing that the x linked traits to not follow the same rules as normal inheritance, the original theory presented in this paper holds true. The number of female and male wizards is proportional, but if the trait was sex linked, then every family with any wizarding genes would have all boys born become wizards, while only females who were born to two wizard parents could have magic. Psalm 24 Next, with the capacity to divaricate into three distinct thought components, Psalm 24 actually has congruence, as it covers a sequential range of actions which include declaration, preparation and finally praise. It is also considered to be a liturgical psalm due to the manner of wording and conveyance of access requirements with regard to being fit to enter the temple for worship unto God (Varughese, n.d., p. 7). One course of thought among scholars and commentators for this psalm, is that it likely embodies the time when the David brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed edom into the city of David with gladness (2 Samuel 6:12, New American Standard Bible; Kidner, 2014, p. 130). Bullock (2005) noted that, at the heart of Hebrew poetry is a device called parallelism (p. 36). Several instances of parallelism are found in Psalm 24, and especially in the first two strophes. For example, in the first distich, we see David proclaiming that The earth is the Lord s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1, King James Version). These two units are an example of synonymous parallelism, which Bullock (2005) noted as meaning that the thought pattern in one line conforms to the pattern in the successive line (p. 36, BULLOCK, PARAPHRASE THIS). Next, in verses three and four, we find the psalmist using a form of synthetic parallelism, which involves the second line solving or completing the thought of the first line (Owensboro Community and Technical College, n.d., para. 7). This can be seen in verse three when David asks the questions Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place and then answers in the next verse with He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully (Psalm 24:3 4, King James ... Accordingly, only the patent owner has an exclusive right to make, use, to offer for sale, sell, or import the product. Heroin is the drug of choice for the protagonist, but other substances are also consumed throughout the film: heroin, prescription medication, opium, hash, amphetamines, and alcohol are a constant presence in the story. Repeated polysubstance abuse combined with a negative social environment and a weak support structure compounds the problems of Renton, a heroin addicted young adult man living in Scotland. When examining the actual diagnostic criteria, causes, and treatment of drug addiction from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, comparisons can be made between the portrayal of addiction in the film and reality.
