find out that the criminal is innocent, so they wasted a lot of taxpayer s money going through all the
trials, and then they usually have life sentence expenses that taxpayers also have to pay

The USould Adopt The Metric System
The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial
system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of
two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the
reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric
system and the imperial system are quite different.
The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it
also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and
seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ...
There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in
1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been
already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above.
Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used
the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of
one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is
Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was
delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a
conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong
sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The
fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms.
They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they
miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is
not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s
costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal
with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch

of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take

The Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King
In the play Oedipus The King by Sophocles, Apollo had declared the murderer of the former king of
Thebes, Laius, as the one responsible for the hardships that Thebes had faced. Oedipus, determined to
find the culprit, led an investigation into the murder. Throughout the journey of the mystery, Oedipus s
fate, the prophecy that foretold that Oedipus would kill his father and wed and bear children with his
mother, was gradually fulfilled. Essentially, bits of Oedipus s destiny were proven to be true as new
information continuously came to light throughout his detective work of the initial crime, despite his
constant efforts to avoid the truth of what occurred. This particular investigative expedition not only
concluded with the mystery of Laius s true killer being brought to light, but it also illuminated the

A Seminar On Education And Poverty
In September of 2013, my sister passed away, leaving our family with more questions than answers
and challenges that parallel with heartbreak. As a freshman trying to find my way at the University of
Georgia, it seemed that I was going backwards compared to my peers and my grieving put more of a
strain on my will to continue my studies. Pursuing any actions for bettering myself or my counterparts
tended to feel overwhelming. Feelings of loneliness engulfed my state of mind, but what was most
unbearable was my realization that I had no idea of how I was going to overcome this. I usually have a
plan of what I would like to accomplish and who I strive to become, but at this stage of life, I felt as
lost as ever. As months passed, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on education and poverty.
Although I was not interested in education, I attended to gain information for a class project. Through
this seminar, I found the beginning of passion that I did not know I possessed. The presenters exposed
the significant fact that students often times do not finish school due to their lacking in resources to
finish. These self and material doubts affect students at every level of education. While focusing on
my own challenges, I lost sight of the present, daunting challenges that others, whether they be my
peers or younger students, face on a daily basis. Pity for these other students had not crossed my mind,
but rather, an urgency to take action. Students must work so relentlessly
