Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire
The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of modern
journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news . This title
implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of news can hold
just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s popularity, the word
fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire typically aims to
entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news reports capture an
event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying bias in their stories,
one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism, carries a satirical form of
political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting, just in a different format and
done for a different purpose.
The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this form
of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of media. Popular
satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in relation to the viewer,
stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and sometimes we need to
research things deeply to understand them. (Oliver, 2014). This form of storytelling is not always
successful. The audience

Yu Wenzhou Stigma
According to Erving Goffman, stigma is an attribute that makes a person different from others in a
social category, and reduces the person to a tainted or discounted status (134), but any difference
between human beings could be potentially stigmatizing. Anything outside of the ordinary or the
standard, that is, anything that creates a sense of uncertainty can in turn drive people to fear
differences, fear the future, fear the unknown and therefore stigmatize that which is different and
unknown. (Coleman Brown, 155) Then, the question is, would stigma persist if people didn t feel
threatened, inferior, or insecure? In the case of Yu Wenzhou, the Captain of Blue Rain in the Chinese
anime, King s Avatar, it seems that even if the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As someone who resides in a group of majority who carries a high standard APM, Wenzhou s
handicap is potentially stigmatizing. Yet, despite Ye Xiu s trash talk, Wenzhou is largely unfazed.
Although his low APM causes Wenzhou mild frustrations, he has the clarity of mind to recognize his
strengths over his weaknesses Wenzhou s ability to analyze (00:10:45 00:11:12) entitles him Master
Tactician and King of Analysis. In fact, his tactical ability was like an all knowing God (Blue, Chapter
338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and launched a surprise attack against his
opponents. In this instance, it seems like the Chinese society sees disability as something that can be
compensated for, and if the person being stigmatized does not feel inferior, then the stigma would not
affect. As a matter of fact, Wenzhou not only acknowledges his handicap (Blue, 00:11:36 00:11:41),
but he also playfully calls himself a handicapped person (00:11:51 00:11:54) as he challenges Ye Xiu
to a duel. Wenzhou s response and clarity of mind seems to correspond with Coleman Brown s
suggestion that people with low self esteem are more likely to identify and maintain negative
stereotypes. However, it may be more reasonable to consider Wenzhou s disability as a balancing act
rather than a compensation. According to Ye Xiu, the God

The Authoritarian Style Of Parenting Essay
Introduction In the early 1960s, psychologist Diana Baumrid conducted a research, analyzing child
parent behavior, seeking to identify parenting styles. The Baumrid study and other further studies
identified four main styles of parenting (Miller, 2010): the authoritative parenting style was
characterized by fair rules and consequences; The Authoritarian parenting style was characterized by
strict rules and harsh punishment; the permissive parenting style was characterized by minimal rules
with little or no consequences; the uninvolved parenting style was characterized by no rules, and
parent presence was almost non existent. In this paper, I m going to look at the authoritarian style of
parenting in an attempt to draw out its characteristics and its immediate and later impacts on children
impact. The Authoritarian parenting Style The primary focal point of the authoritarian style is on
respect rather than parent child relationships. Authoritarian parents are known for being strict. They
lay out rules and expect their children to follow them without question, even if the child has a valid
reason for questioning a decision. They establish many rules for the household and leave little or no
room for negotiation on policies. Authoritarian parents also fail to explain why the rules exist because
they believe that, as the parent, they are the authority on all decisions and shouldn t be questioned.
Penalty is an important element to authoritarian parents. Discipline is not gentle

Summary Of Vance s Hillbilly Elegy
Very few people at Yale law school are like me. They may look like me, but for all the Ivy League s
obsession with diversity, virtually everyone black, white, Jewish, Muslim, whatever comes from intact
families who never worry about money. (Vance 203) Throughout the end of Vance s book he discusses
his life in college at Ohio State and the ivy league school, Yale. He talks about its difficulties.
However, these difficulties weren t found in his school work. In fact, he says that Classes were hard,
and sometimes required long nights in the library, but they weren t that hard. (201) The difficulty to
Vance seemed to come from the lack of people in his school that understood or came from his
background. There are two events, the first takes place at Indiana University in 1987, where a class
was sent out to be immersed in and expand their education on cultures exactly like Vance s. The
second article talks about a student who in 1988, like Vance, escaped his hillbilly background and
became successful at Yale. Both of these events occurred before Vance s time in Yale and are examples
of people attempting to understand or do what Vance did in Hillbilly Elegy. For four months, the
students eat, sleep, teach and sink or swim in another culture. They go to inner cities, Appalachia,
Indian reservations, Hispanic areas, and overseas. (Clark 1) A class at the University of Indiana is sent
out in 1987 to different cultures as part of Cultural Immersion Projects. It is the

The Republic of the Philippines suffers from widespread...
The Republic of the Philippines suffers from widespread corruption (Jurado, 2010). This involves
different forms of dishonesty such as graft, bribery, embezzlement, backdoor deals, and patronage.
According to Iskyan (2013), even though the current Aquino Administration continues to exert effort
in dealing with this, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, corruption and inefficient budgetary
procedures are still present. Based on the report of the US Department of State Investment Climate
Statement (2013), corruption exists in almost all levels of the government, especially among high
level civil servants. As an effect, companies generally have little confidence in the Philippine
government. Its people are also hesitant to pay their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it is true that justice must be served, it is always better to prevent this unfortunate
occurrences even before they begin. Prevention will always be better than the cure. Improvising a
solution to address this issue is quite challenging. By applying the principles of Week Three (3)
Lecture in lessening the probability of cheating, some problems in our government may be answered.
In order to shrink the fudge factor, people needs to think of morality. A simple statement placed on top
of every bill passed in congress saying As a matter of personal honor and dignity, beyond selfish
interest, and for the benefit of the common good, all statements below are were crafted without bias
and prejudice.... may help legislators to lessen their tendency to craft laws vulnerable to cheating.
Another subject that needs attention is the tax payment of the citizens. If requiring a signature on the
beginning of the tax report of every citizen is too much to ask. Maybe, a checklist with statements
such as, I shall include all my assets, liabilities and net worth in filling this report , I shall honestly fill
our all necessary information for the common good of the Filipino people , requiring them to check
this boxes before filing out the report sheet may somehow prevent the people from writing false
amounts. Curing this spreading illness in the country has no one time solution. It is a process, a
difficult but attainable process that needs the

The Infancy of Humanitarian Intervention
The Infancy of Humanitarian Intervention
As breaking news is more easily communicated across the globe, the U.N. and other states led forces
are more inclined to intervene more then ever before but sometimes they are faced with the problem of
protecting a states sovereignty. There is a growing skepticism that is facing humanitarian intervention
when a sovereign state fails to protect it s own population. The question arises when humanitarian
intervention supersedes the sovereignty of a state. Does the state remain sovereign or does it lose
authority when an outside party intervenes? Respecting a states sovereignty is a high priority between
the United Nations and other state led forces, but when a sovereign state fails the responsibility protect
it s own citizens there is an unclear line that confuses the legitimacy of humanitarian intervention and
it s principles of military action. The United Nation s humanitarian intervention, and the principles of
its military action, has shown time after time of its failures and successes in combating or escalating
wide spread violence. In this study I will weigh the pros and cons of several conflicts where
humanitarian intervention was deployed and decide if humanitarian intervention was a successful or
unsuccessful procedure. By focusing on what is causing these complications in enforcing
humanitarian intervention within failed states will prove if this practice is just or not. But before I

Minor Assignment Marketing Mix
[minor assignment] | Write a 1500 word report describing the 4 marketing mix elements and discuss
how these are applied to retail petrol outlets. |
Introduction
This report has been compiled in order to describe the four most common elements of the marketing
mix which are described by Elliot, Rundle Thiele and Waller (2010 p.18 21) in the following few
sentences. * Product A good, service or idea offered to the market for exchange. (p.18) * Price The
amount of money a business demands in exchange for its offerings. (p.20) * Promotion The marketing
activities that make potential customers, partners and society aware of and attracted to the business s

There is an obvious demand for petrol, as almost everyone who is able, drives or rides a vehicle which
requires fuel to run. So it could be argued that retail petrol stations don t necessarily set their own
prices, but go off supplier guidelines which base their fuel pricing strategy on demand, Demand based
pricing sets prices according to the level of aggregate or individual customer demand in the market.
(Elliott et al. 2010 p. 250) Elliott et al. also continue to write that both Caltex Woolworths and Coles
Express hold more than 60% of the Australian fuel market share (2010 p.268) so high demand from
their suppliers will enable them to lower their fuel prices and therefore gain more customers, earning
higher profits.
Pricing of other products offered by retail petrol outlets such as bread or milk tend to have the
opportunity to be competitive and more fairly priced than a standard petrol station, the major grocery
companies behind retail petrol outlets like Woolworths and Coles focus on gaining more ground off
one and other, price drops are reflected in store and this also proves more profitable, because
consumers are drawn into purchasing something they wouldn t normally associate with their petrol.
Promotion
An important aspect in the success of retail petrol outlets is in their promotion, or the way in which
their fuels and other products are portrayed to potential customers. There are many numbers of ways
in which retail petrol

Since the time of the first moon landing, America has launched more expeditions to the moon.

the people that believe the moon landing was a hoax are actually scientists. Their scientific theories
about why the moon landing was a fake include, the technology, radiation, and the atmosphere of the

moon landing was a hoax. First, the moon expedition would not have even been able to commence,
because America at the time did not possess the technology to travel to the moon. Stanislav Pokrovsky

Essay Similarities Between Night And The Book Night
Introduction Imagine that your family is uprooted from where they have been living for your whole
life, and are moved to a small space with 50 other people surrounded by death, suffering, disease and
starvation. This scenario was very real in both the novel Night and the movie Life is beautiful .
Furthermore, these two stories from the holocaust are similar and different in many ways. They are
both from the same point of view which is from the son, the development of Elie and Joshua
throughout the story, the characterization of the father, and God s provisions in there lives while they
were in the concentration camp. Although, there are many things that are alike in both of these stories,
there are many things that are different. Which consist of the mood of sadness, the fathers different
ways of showing love, and how God protected them both but in different ways. In the novel Night and

his father when placed in the kamando. You are lucky, little fellow, said Hans, smiling. You fell into a
good Kommando ... (Wiesel, pg. 50). This is just one of the many ways how God showed his grace
toward Elie in his time or need and how he provided for him and his father throughout this suffering.
In addition to Elie getting provisions from God, Joshua did also. Joshua was provided with the
provision of hating to take showers. As the boy in the movie is portrayed, he hates to take showers.
Furthermore, because he hates to take showers he does not go into the showers with the other boys,
thus, saving his life (Gray, 2000). These provisions from God are obscenely different, they were both
ways that God provided for them in both of their stories of

Why Is Louis Sullivan Important To Chicago
Louis Sullivan revolutionized architecture, redefining art in building form. His work in the late 1800s
became known across the country and brought many to Chicago, either to see his grand creations or
study the architect himself. Louis Sullivan was born in Boston on September 3rd, 1856 and began
work in Chicago in 1875 for several architecture firms. He joined Adler s firm in 1879, where his
major work began. Sullivan s skill in artistic design and Adler s talent for business matters and
marketing made the firm very successful, and together they created many buildings across Chicago,
eventually playing a part in the 1893 World s Fair, (although the architecture did not meet his
expectations). Louis Sullivan was greatly important to Chicago in that he left a lasting effect on the
city and country with both his incredible architecture and his strong, innovative ideas about the future
of architecture, ideas which gave birth to great new forms such as the skyscraper.
Louis Sullivan was born in Boston, where he lived for his first 10 years. His parents were Irish
immigrants who had moved to Boston. At age 12 he was already determined to become an architect,
his impatience with classroom education moved him from school to school, as he spent only one year
at MIT, where he studied under William Ware, an architect famous for his Victorian Gothic building
style. Sullivan left for Philadelphia in 1873 and worked with the firm of Furness and Hewitt until

identifying problems to give some possible solutions.
1.2 Statement of the problem
Agriculture has always been the backbone of Ethiopia s economy. Yet, lifting millions of Ethiopians
out of poverty requires transformation from centuries old subsistence agriculture to dynamic,
technology driven market oriented production. This can only happen if the market itself functions in
such a way as to serve the needs of all concerned stakeholder of the market.
Ethiopian coffee marketing system is also on age old tradition. To date, coffee markets have been
characterized by high cost and high risks of transacting, forcing much of Ethiopia into global isolation.
Coffee trading is done on the basis of auction system which backed by poor technology and clearing
and payment system which drives up the processing and marketing cost and these leads to high
consumer price this forcing coffee exporter to be powerless into global market. In addition to his small
scale farmers come to the market with little information and are at the mercy of coffee supplier or
collector in the nearest and only market they know, unable to negotiate better prices or reduces their
market risks.

market, especially for

The Origins of Star Wars
The Origins of Star Wars Not so long ago in a galaxy a bit closer to home, George Lucas crafted one
of the most iconic movies of all time. That movie was soon followed by a series of mind bending
movies that captured the hearts and minds of generations up to this day. From light saber duels to the
destructive power of the Death Star, Star Wars is one movie saga that we are all familiar with. But
how did this captivating series come to be? How did it all begin? Just how did George Lucas come up
with such brilliant ideas for Star Wars? What are the true origins of Star Wars? Not many people know

From their philosophies to the way they do battle to the way the dress, the powerful Jedi Knights of
the Star Wars galaxy have clear parallelisms with our galaxy s Samurais. Examples of these
parallelisms are the robes that the Jedi used are quite similar to the robes that the Samurai used,
another one is the Japanese katana that the Samurais used in battle and the Light Saber that the Jedi
used to keep the peace. George Lucas also borrowed ideas from other samurai movies such as Sanjuro
and Yojimbo both by Akira Kurosawa. Apart from having Asian origins, Star Wars also has Western
background. One of the earliest science fiction graphic novels known to man is Flash Gordon. It s
clear why George Lucas took some of Flash Gordon s concepts and applied it with his own films.
Flash Gordon however, also borrowed it s concepts with an even earlier sci fi comic strip: Buck
Rogers. One of the clearest similarities between Star Wars and Flash Gordon is the signature roll up
that is present in the start of every Star Wars movie. One less noticeable similarity is the vocabulary of
Flash Gordon (which was also taken from Buck Rogers). Since Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers were
the only ones that mentioned of futuristic space travel and intergalactic battles, George Lucas based
the vocabulary of Star Wars on these two science fiction works of his time. The technology and the

Contrast Between Love and Violence in Shakespeare s Romeo...
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon in the time of Elizabeth I. Romeo Juliet is one
of his most famous plays and has always been extremely popular in mainstream and in contemporary
media, mainly because the ideals and issues brought up in the play are still very valid in modern times.
The play revolves around the, aptly named, Romeo Juliet and their forbidden love and their struggle to
love one another with each others families, Capulets and Montagues, feuding with each other,
underneath the romanticism it is a story of a plan going wrong. I am going to analyse and interpret
how two very contrasting things; love and violence relate to each other in the play, the effect they have
on the characters and the events that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing that can be used as evidence to show this is a feud is the sheer length of the affair, in
which there is several fights with no sign of either side backing down, until the Prince shows up and
declares that if there are anymore disagreements there will be dire consequences, the fact of the Prince
getting involved also shows that the feud is a big thing, that, and the punishment of death if there is
another fight, shows this is a full throttle family war underpinning the whole play affecting and
infecting everything, mainly Romeo and Juliet s love for each other, everything would ve been fine if

Biological Effects Of Grounding On The Body
Grounding has shown to affect inflammation, chronic pain, cardiovascular function, and other
biological processes (Chevalier, Sinatra, Oshman Delany, 2013). It was hypothesized that those who
electrically ground themselves with the natural world around them would be in an elevated, happier
mood. Findings from the research conducted did not support this hypothesis. Results were not
consistent with the previous research conducted on the effects of grounding on the physical body;
however, research on the psychological effects of grounding the body has not been conducted on a
large scale. Because of the previous research on the biological effects of grounding, there is a
theoretical argument to suggest that it could positively affect mood,

The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility
Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many
philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To
answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and
deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally responsible
means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in accordance with one s
moral obligations. People could argue that they have free will or not. According to general knowledge
of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things on ones own discretion. Thus, in this
paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for their actions. I will prove this by using the
concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the sense that for humans to be morally
responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of his or her decision. In the case of
Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has minimal effect or no effect on moral
responsibility.
Free will
Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will is a
choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher, when we
call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it. (Edward).
One might argue that people act in certain ways because they have been drugged or

The Reasons Of The Chesapeake And New England Colonies
The Chesapeake and New England Colonies were originally settled in the early 1600 s. The
motivations behind these settlements led to their subsequent economies and societies which became
part of the foundation of these successful colonies. The Chesapeake Colonies needed cheap labor for
their tobacco plantations and the New England area sought freedom to practice religion without
restrictions from the English crown.
The Virginia Company initially colonized the Chesapeake area of Jamestown as a search for gold and
as an exploration of the area s natural resources. The company realized that for the colony to survive it
would have to forget their search for gold and instead find a profitable economy. Tobacco became
Virginia s substitute for gold. This new crop enriched a growing class of tobacco planters and many
members of colonial government. By 1624, more than 200,00 pounds of tobacco were grown and by
the 1680 s, crops totaled 30 million pounds. There was a get rich quick mind set and a frantic rush for
land and labor. Despite the severe conditions of the fields and a high death rate, the colony still
attracted immigrants. Of the 120,000 English immigrants, 3/4 came as servants. Jamestown became an
agrarian society with extensive farmlands along the region s rivers.
Because the plantations were widely dispersed, this new agrarian society had few town centers and
little social unity. The high demand for male labor in the fields meant that men outnumbered women

Move Of Wrestling Essay
So in wrestling there are multiple moves you can do. These moves are probably the most basic moves
you are taught and the most commonly used moves done today. The first move is the double leg
takedown. The double leg takedown is a flying tackle similar to a football tackle (Douglas). For a
double leg takedown there are a lot of little steps that you may need to execute this move correctly.
The first thing you need to do is perform a setup and then to perform a penetration step. The next thing
you are gonna wanna do is to place your head on either side of your opponent. Next you are going to
want to push your chest up against your opponent s thighs and hips. The less space you have the better
control you will have over your opponents strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, the lower part of the leg is pulled in one direction, while the torso or shoulder is used to
press the body or upper part of the leg of the opponent in the other direction. Another great takedown
is the duck under. In a duck under, the wrestler pulls the opponent s elbow forward and away from the
body, lowers his own head, and ducks under the opponent s arm in an effort to get behind or at least
beside the opponent; from this position the opponent can be taken down by lifting and throwing or by
a leg trip. Then for the best and most used move everyone uses in wrestling, the half nelson. The half
nelson is referred to by most coaches as being the easiest, but most effective move in folkstyle
wrestling (Wrestling Moves). It involves you using only one hand, by passing it under the arm of the
opponent and locking the hand on the opponent s neck. Then you will run him over until his back is
fully on the mat. Then you will want to get chest to chest to make sure that he can t get out of it. You
will hold it there until he is pinned or until you get your nearfall points. So there are a lot of wrestling
moves to know about, but in order to be good at these moves, you must choose to eat healthy so you
can execute these moves

Turkey After The Fall Of The Ottoman Empire
After the fall of the Ottoman empire, Turkey received a new identity as Modern Turkey. With Turkey
being home to over 45 different ethnic and religious groups, this makes it a diverse and unique nation.
This goes to show how unity is important in a diverse country like Turkey for its future success. All of
these contribute to the cultural makeup of this country. Turkey s current population is 78 million.
According to a report, 70% of Turkey s youth population will reach working age by the year 2023.
(United Nations 87). This goes to show that right now there is a very large young population in Turkey
that is on the verge of joining the workforce. This will dramatically affect the economy in Turkey. As
it relates to society, this has great cultural implications, because the next generation will make up the
moral fabric of society.
In order to understand the Turkish youth culture, it is important to first understand the current political
climate in Turkey, because politics can determine the mood of a country and its culture. Turkey s party
system currently consists of four main political parties, the Justice and Development Party, Republican
People s Party, Nationalist Movement Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party. Each party has a huge
political clout in the country, especially in the specific regions in Turkey. All the parties have an
enormous bulge of youth supporters which contribute greatly.

The George W. Bush Administration Summary
The George W. Bush administration was riddled with many tragic events, from natural disasters to
terrorist attacks, and economic hardships that made lasting impressions of the American peoples
perceptions of our government and the world outside of the United States boundaries. The six people
who conducted this research, George Shambaugh, Richard Matthew, Roxane C. Silver, Bryan
McDonald, Michael Poulin, and Scott Blum, set out to discover how the before mentioned events
effected the group unit of analysis, U.S. Public , views towards our government, the media, terrorism,
and their overall outlook on America s future. It had appeared that they had the predetermined notion
that because of terrorist attacks and natural disasters the U.S. public would be pessimistic and afraid
foreign countries. Other suggested hypothesis were that peoples independent identities affect their
perception of national and personal threat, outlook for the future, trust in the government, and
approval of policies passed in our nation s difficult times in a way that creates a noticeable divide at
these identities. Although, neither of these hypothesis seem to be true. This was explanatory research
with a fixed sample panel research design. Which is a better choice than the other longitudinal
research design, repeated cross sectional, because it allows the researchers to gage the shift in the U.S.

Andrew Marvell s `` Conflictual World View `` Essay
By 1642, England had descended into chaos as civil war ravaged the country. King Charles I had
dissolved Parliament in 1629 thus making the King vastly unpopular throughout his dominion. After
reestablishing the Parliament in 1640, Oliver Cromwell was elected amidst ensuing popularity as a
religious, talented military man, who supported an agenda for radical reforms (Britannica). The wars
ended with the following outcomes: Charles I beheaded, Cromwell soon in command as Lord
Protector of the Commonwealth, the eventual return to power of the Royalists and the coronation of
King Charles II in 1660. However, the tumultuous political atmosphere of the recent decades left its
mark on every citizen of the kingdoms. One of these citizens, Andrew Marvell s, conflictual world
view seems unmistakably the product of the unsettled civil war decades (1366 early 17th century
intro). Andrew Marvell was a noted scholar, a tutor to General Fairfax s daughter (a foe of Cromwell
during the English Civil wars) and eventually became a member of Parliament. He is known for his
ambiguous writings and elusive rhetoric; perhaps a defensive gesture to hide his true opinions from
the public (Norton Anthology of English Literature, 1366). The chaotic atmosphere caused much fear
in the citizens as any criticism of the government would be an affront and the punishment was often
arrest and execution. Marvell, having a secure position as tutor to Cromwell s General s daughter and

Understanding My Social Location and Experiences Essay
The intersection of dominant ideologies of race, class, and gender are important in shaping my social
location and experiences. By exercising my sociological imagination (Mills, 1959), I will argue how
my social location as an Asian American woman with a working class background has worked
separately and together to influence how I behave, how others treat and view me, and how I
understand the world. The sociological imagination has allowed me to understand my own biography ,
or life experiences by understanding the history , or larger social structures in which I grew up in

Compared to California s education demographics, San Leandro has a higher percentage of high
school graduate, but a lower percentage of higher educational attainment compared to the entire nation
(bachelor s degree or higher). Using Thompson and Hickey s model for social class in the United
States (2005), my family would be considered working class. This is defined as clerical, pink and blue
collar workers with often low job security; common household incomes range from $16,000 to
$30,000 [and] high school education (Thompson et al., 2005). My mother currently works as a part
time waitress and is going to community college to receive an associate s degree in accounting. My
father has been working as a full time cook at a Chinese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown for about 25
years. His highest level of educational attainment is high school. These racial and social class
demographics are important in understanding my social location.
In relation to other racial groups in the United States, Asian Americans are constructed as the model
minority. The model minority myth (Takaki, 1999) has shaped how I perceive what opportunities I

Persuasive Essay Pro Death Penalty
There are murder victims family members who go through this process thinking they ll feel peace
once the revenge of the death penalty is carried out. What I ve learned from meeting with these people
is that you don t feel better in revenge. You feel better in forgiveness (Steinberg, 2015). Today, there
are 31 states that are for the death penalty, leaving 19 that are against it. There are many reasons to be
for and against the death penalty, but in my opinion, I think that there is a better way to take care of
criminals rather than killing them.
One side of this debate is being for the death penalty. According to Van Den Haag (1983), people fear
death more than life in prison. Having the death penalty will be a consequence that people don t want
to face so it will help decrease future murder. Also, Swift (2014) states that they deserve being put to
death. They knew before they did the crime that the consequence for murder is being put to death. He
also argues that having them put to death will help stop further crime and overcrowding of prisons. ...

The USould Adopt The Metric System
The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial
system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of
two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the
reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric
system and the imperial system are quite different.
The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it
also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and
seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ...

There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in
1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been
already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above.
Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used
the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of
one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is
Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was
delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a
conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong
sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The
fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms.
They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they
miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is
not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s
costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal
with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch
the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening

John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective assessment
of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take
to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for
happiness utilizing John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different
levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its
higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of happiness based upon their
faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater good through their actions. Mill
makes it clear early in his work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He states,
Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of
them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This
comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans
mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the
higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore
subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly
different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about
philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness.
These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that
once people are made aware of their possession of higher faculties, they will not be happy when these

The Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King
In the play Oedipus The King by Sophocles, Apollo had declared the murderer of the former king of
Thebes, Laius, as the one responsible for the hardships that Thebes had faced. Oedipus, determined to
find the culprit, led an investigation into the murder. Throughout the journey of the mystery, Oedipus s
fate, the prophecy that foretold that Oedipus would kill his father and wed and bear children with his
mother, was gradually fulfilled. Essentially, bits of Oedipus s destiny were proven to be true as new
information continuously came to light throughout his detective work of the initial crime, despite his
constant efforts to avoid the truth of what occurred. This particular investigative expedition not only
concluded with the mystery of Laius s true killer being brought to light, but it also illuminated the
definitive power and restrictiveness of fate and the role it played within the story itself. According to
Greek mythology, fate is an inevitable influence that has the power to rear one s future whether they
are aware of it or not. Within Oedipus s situation, this concept is held true. Specifically, During the
middle of the investigation, when Oedipus was questioning a messenger from Thebes, the messenger
said If you ran from them, always dodging home... for which Oedipus responded Always, terrified
Apollo s oracle might come true . The messenger then exclaimed You ve really nothing to fear...
Polybus was nothing to you, that s why, not in blood (1107, 1108, 1111,

A Seminar On Education And Poverty
In September of 2013, my sister passed away, leaving our family with more questions than answers
and challenges that parallel with heartbreak. As a freshman trying to find my way at the University of
Georgia, it seemed that I was going backwards compared to my peers and my grieving put more of a
strain on my will to continue my studies. Pursuing any actions for bettering myself or my counterparts
tended to feel overwhelming. Feelings of loneliness engulfed my state of mind, but what was most
unbearable was my realization that I had no idea of how I was going to overcome this. I usually have a
plan of what I would like to accomplish and who I strive to become, but at this stage of life, I felt as
lost as ever. As months passed, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on education and poverty.
Although I was not interested in education, I attended to gain information for a class project. Through
this seminar, I found the beginning of passion that I did not know I possessed. The presenters exposed
the significant fact that students often times do not finish school due to their lacking in resources to
finish. These self and material doubts affect students at every level of education. While focusing on
my own challenges, I lost sight of the present, daunting challenges that others, whether they be my
peers or younger students, face on a daily basis. Pity for these other students had not crossed my mind,
but rather, an urgency to take action. Students must work so relentlessly

  • 2. Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of modern journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news . This title implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of news can hold just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s popularity, the word fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire typically aims to entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news reports capture an event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying bias in their stories, one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism, carries a satirical form of political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting, just in a different format and done for a different purpose. The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this form of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of media. Popular satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in relation to the viewer, stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and sometimes we need to research things deeply to understand them. (Oliver, 2014). This form of storytelling is not always successful. The audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Yu Wenzhou Stigma According to Erving Goffman, stigma is an attribute that makes a person different from others in a social category, and reduces the person to a tainted or discounted status (134), but any difference between human beings could be potentially stigmatizing. Anything outside of the ordinary or the standard, that is, anything that creates a sense of uncertainty can in turn drive people to fear differences, fear the future, fear the unknown and therefore stigmatize that which is different and unknown. (Coleman Brown, 155) Then, the question is, would stigma persist if people didn t feel threatened, inferior, or insecure? In the case of Yu Wenzhou, the Captain of Blue Rain in the Chinese anime, King s Avatar, it seems that even if the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As someone who resides in a group of majority who carries a high standard APM, Wenzhou s handicap is potentially stigmatizing. Yet, despite Ye Xiu s trash talk, Wenzhou is largely unfazed. Although his low APM causes Wenzhou mild frustrations, he has the clarity of mind to recognize his strengths over his weaknesses Wenzhou s ability to analyze (00:10:45 00:11:12) entitles him Master Tactician and King of Analysis. In fact, his tactical ability was like an all knowing God (Blue, Chapter 338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and launched a surprise attack against his opponents. In this instance, it seems like the Chinese society sees disability as something that can be compensated for, and if the person being stigmatized does not feel inferior, then the stigma would not affect. As a matter of fact, Wenzhou not only acknowledges his handicap (Blue, 00:11:36 00:11:41), but he also playfully calls himself a handicapped person (00:11:51 00:11:54) as he challenges Ye Xiu to a duel. Wenzhou s response and clarity of mind seems to correspond with Coleman Brown s suggestion that people with low self esteem are more likely to identify and maintain negative stereotypes. However, it may be more reasonable to consider Wenzhou s disability as a balancing act rather than a compensation. According to Ye Xiu, the God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Authoritarian Style Of Parenting Essay Introduction In the early 1960s, psychologist Diana Baumrid conducted a research, analyzing child parent behavior, seeking to identify parenting styles. The Baumrid study and other further studies identified four main styles of parenting (Miller, 2010): the authoritative parenting style was characterized by fair rules and consequences; The Authoritarian parenting style was characterized by strict rules and harsh punishment; the permissive parenting style was characterized by minimal rules with little or no consequences; the uninvolved parenting style was characterized by no rules, and parent presence was almost non existent. In this paper, I m going to look at the authoritarian style of parenting in an attempt to draw out its characteristics and its immediate and later impacts on children impact. The Authoritarian parenting Style The primary focal point of the authoritarian style is on respect rather than parent child relationships. Authoritarian parents are known for being strict. They lay out rules and expect their children to follow them without question, even if the child has a valid reason for questioning a decision. They establish many rules for the household and leave little or no room for negotiation on policies. Authoritarian parents also fail to explain why the rules exist because they believe that, as the parent, they are the authority on all decisions and shouldn t be questioned. Penalty is an important element to authoritarian parents. Discipline is not gentle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Summary Of Vance s Hillbilly Elegy Very few people at Yale law school are like me. They may look like me, but for all the Ivy League s obsession with diversity, virtually everyone black, white, Jewish, Muslim, whatever comes from intact families who never worry about money. (Vance 203) Throughout the end of Vance s book he discusses his life in college at Ohio State and the ivy league school, Yale. He talks about its difficulties. The Infancy of Humanitarian Intervention The Infancy of Humanitarian Intervention As breaking news is more easily communicated across the globe, the U.N. and other states led forces are more inclined to intervene more then ever before but sometimes they are faced with the problem of protecting a states sovereignty. There is a growing skepticism that is facing humanitarian intervention when a sovereign state fails to protect it s own population. The question arises when humanitarian intervention supersedes the sovereignty of a state. Does the state remain sovereign or does it lose authority when an outside party intervenes? Respecting a states sovereignty is a high priority between the United Nations and other state led forces, but when a sovereign state fails the responsibility protect it s own citizens there is an unclear line that confuses the legitimacy of humanitarian intervention and it s principles of military action. The United Nation s humanitarian intervention, and the principles of its military action, has shown time after time of its failures and successes in combating or escalating wide spread violence. In this study I will weigh the pros and cons of several conflicts where humanitarian intervention was deployed and decide if humanitarian intervention was a successful or unsuccessful procedure. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an obvious demand for petrol, as almost everyone who is able, drives or rides a vehicle which requires fuel to run. So it could be argued that retail petrol stations don t necessarily set their own prices, but go off supplier guidelines which base their fuel pricing strategy on demand, Demand based pricing sets prices according to the level of aggregate or individual customer demand in the market. (Elliott et al. 2010 p. 250) Elliott et al. also continue to write that both Caltex Woolworths and Coles Express hold more than 60% of the Australian fuel market share (2010 p.268) so high demand from their suppliers will enable them to lower their fuel prices and therefore gain more customers, earning higher profits. Pricing of other products offered by retail petrol outlets such as bread or milk tend to have the opportunity to be competitive and more fairly priced than a standard petrol station, the major grocery companies behind retail petrol outlets like Woolworths and Coles focus on gaining more ground off one and other, price drops are reflected in store and this also proves more profitable, because consumers are drawn into purchasing something they wouldn t normally associate with their petrol. Promotion An important aspect in the success of retail petrol outlets is in their promotion, or the way in which their fuels and other products are portrayed to potential customers. There are many numbers of ways in which retail petrol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally responsible means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in accordance with one s moral obligations. People could argue that they have free will or not. According to general knowledge of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things on ones own discretion. Thus, in this paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for their actions. I will prove this by using the concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the sense that for humans to be morally responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of his or her decision. In the case of Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has minimal effect or no effect on moral responsibility. Free will Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will is a choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher, when we call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it. (Edward). • 29. Turkey After The Fall Of The Ottoman Empire After the fall of the Ottoman empire, Turkey received a new identity as Modern Turkey. With Turkey being home to over 45 different ethnic and religious groups, this makes it a diverse and unique nation. This goes to show how unity is important in a diverse country like Turkey for its future success. All of these contribute to the cultural makeup of this country. Turkey s current population is 78 million. According to a report, 70% of Turkey s youth population will reach working age by the year 2023. (United Nations 87). This goes to show that right now there is a very large young population in Turkey that is on the verge of joining the workforce. This will dramatically affect the economy in Turkey. As it relates to society, this has great cultural implications, because the next generation will make up the moral fabric of society. In order to understand the Turkish youth culture, it is important to first understand the current political climate in Turkey, because politics can determine the mood of a country and its culture. Turkey s party system currently consists of four main political parties, the Justice and Development Party, Republican People s Party, Nationalist Movement Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party. Each party has a huge political clout in the country, especially in the specific regions in Turkey. All the parties have an enormous bulge of youth supporters which contribute greatly. • 30. The George W. Bush Administration Summary The George W. Bush administration was riddled with many tragic events, from natural disasters to terrorist attacks, and economic hardships that made lasting impressions of the American peoples perceptions of our government and the world outside of the United States boundaries. The six people who conducted this research, George Shambaugh, Richard Matthew, Roxane C. Silver, Bryan McDonald, Michael Poulin, and Scott Blum, set out to discover how the before mentioned events effected the group unit of analysis, U.S. Public , views towards our government, the media, terrorism, and their overall outlook on America s future. It had appeared that they had the predetermined notion that because of terrorist attacks and natural disasters the U.S. public would be pessimistic and afraid foreign countries. Other suggested hypothesis were that peoples independent identities affect their perception of national and personal threat, outlook for the future, trust in the government, and approval of policies passed in our nation s difficult times in a way that creates a noticeable divide at these identities. Although, neither of these hypothesis seem to be true. This was explanatory research with a fixed sample panel research design. Which is a better choice than the other longitudinal research design, repeated cross sectional, because it allows the researchers to gage the shift in the U.S. Public s stands on terrorism as a personal threat as well of the detrition of salience for different ... • 33. Andrew Marvell s `` Conflictual World View `` Essay By 1642, England had descended into chaos as civil war ravaged the country. King Charles I had dissolved Parliament in 1629 thus making the King vastly unpopular throughout his dominion. After reestablishing the Parliament in 1640, Oliver Cromwell was elected amidst ensuing popularity as a religious, talented military man, who supported an agenda for radical reforms (Britannica). The wars ended with the following outcomes: Charles I beheaded, Cromwell soon in command as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, the eventual return to power of the Royalists and the coronation of King Charles II in 1660. However, the tumultuous political atmosphere of the recent decades left its mark on every citizen of the kingdoms. One of these citizens, Andrew Marvell s, conflictual world view seems unmistakably the product of the unsettled civil war decades (1366 early 17th century intro). Andrew Marvell was a noted scholar, a tutor to General Fairfax s daughter (a foe of Cromwell during the English Civil wars) and eventually became a member of Parliament. He is known for his ambiguous writings and elusive rhetoric; perhaps a defensive gesture to hide his true opinions from the public (Norton Anthology of English Literature, 1366). The chaotic atmosphere caused much fear in the citizens as any criticism of the government would be an affront and the punishment was often arrest and execution. • 35. Understanding My Social Location and Experiences Essay The intersection of dominant ideologies of race, class, and gender are important in shaping my social location and experiences. By exercising my sociological imagination (Mills, 1959), I will argue how my social location as an Asian American woman with a working class background has worked separately and together to influence how I behave, how others treat and view me, and how I understand the world. The sociological imagination has allowed me to understand my own biography , or life experiences by understanding the history , or larger social structures in which I grew up in (Mills, 1959). Compared to California s education demographics, San Leandro has a higher percentage of high school graduate, but a lower percentage of higher educational attainment compared to the entire nation (bachelor s degree or higher). Using Thompson and Hickey s model for social class in the United States (2005), my family would be considered working class. This is defined as clerical, pink and blue collar workers with often low job security; common household incomes range from $16,000 to $30,000 [and] high school education (Thompson et al., 2005). My mother currently works as a part time waitress and is going to community college to receive an associate s degree in accounting. My father has been working as a full time cook at a Chinese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown for about 25 years. His highest level of educational attainment is high school. These racial and social class demographics are important in understanding my social location. In relation to other racial groups in the United States, Asian Americans are constructed as the model minority. The model minority myth (Takaki, 1999) has shaped how I perceive what opportunities I have in order to achieve the American Dream. This concept of the model minority creates an illusion that the American Dream is attainable through hard work and private effort as evident in Asian American s economic and educational successes ... • 36. Persuasive Essay Pro Death Penalty There are murder victims family members who go through this process thinking they ll feel peace once the revenge of the death penalty is carried out. What I ve learned from meeting with these people is that you don t feel better in revenge. You feel better in forgiveness (Steinberg, 2015). Today, there are 31 states that are for the death penalty, leaving 19 that are against it. There are many reasons to be for and against the death penalty, but in my opinion, I think that there is a better way to take care of criminals rather than killing them. One side of this debate is being for the death penalty. According to Van Den Haag (1983), people fear death more than life in prison. Having the death penalty will be a consequence that people don t want to face so it will help decrease future murder. Also, Swift (2014) states that they deserve being put to death. They knew before they did the crime that the consequence for murder is being put to death. He also argues that having them put to death will help stop further crime and overcrowding of prisons. ... • 37. The USould Adopt The Metric System The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric system and the imperial system are quite different. The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in 1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above. Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective assessment of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of happiness based upon their faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater good through their actions. Mill makes it clear early in his work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that once people are made aware of their possession of higher faculties, they will not be happy when these are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King In the play Oedipus The King by Sophocles, Apollo had declared the murderer of the former king of Thebes, Laius, as the one responsible for the hardships that Thebes had faced. Oedipus, determined to find the culprit, led an investigation into the murder. Throughout the journey of the mystery, Oedipus s fate, the prophecy that foretold that Oedipus would kill his father and wed and bear children with his mother, was gradually fulfilled. Essentially, bits of Oedipus s destiny were proven to be true as new information continuously came to light throughout his detective work of the initial crime, despite his constant efforts to avoid the truth of what occurred. This particular investigative expedition not only concluded with the mystery of Laius s true killer being brought to light, but it also illuminated the definitive power and restrictiveness of fate and the role it played within the story itself. According to Greek mythology, fate is an inevitable influence that has the power to rear one s future whether they are aware of it or not. Within Oedipus s situation, this concept is held true. Specifically, During the middle of the investigation, when Oedipus was questioning a messenger from Thebes, the messenger said If you ran from them, always dodging home... for which Oedipus responded Always, terrified Apollo s oracle might come true . The messenger then exclaimed You ve really nothing to fear... Polybus was nothing to you, that s why, not in blood (1107, 1108, 1111, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. A Seminar On Education And Poverty In September of 2013, my sister passed away, leaving our family with more questions than answers and challenges that parallel with heartbreak. As a freshman trying to find my way at the University of Georgia, it seemed that I was going backwards compared to my peers and my grieving put more of a strain on my will to continue my studies. Pursuing any actions for bettering myself or my counterparts tended to feel overwhelming. Feelings of loneliness engulfed my state of mind, but what was most unbearable was my realization that I had no idea of how I was going to overcome this. I usually have a plan of what I would like to accomplish and who I strive to become, but at this stage of life, I felt as lost as ever. As months passed, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on education and poverty. Although I was not interested in education, I attended to gain information for a class project. Through this seminar, I found the beginning of passion that I did not know I possessed. The presenters exposed the significant fact that students often times do not finish school due to their lacking in resources to finish. These self and material doubts affect students at every level of education. While focusing on my own challenges, I lost sight of the present, daunting challenges that others, whether they be my peers or younger students, face on a daily basis. Pity for these other students had not crossed my mind, but rather, an urgency to take action. Students must work so relentlessly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
