Real Play and Piaget Essay examples
Real Play Play that is initiated and directed by children and that bubbles up from within the child
rather than being imposed by adults is disappearing from our landscape of childhood. There are many
reasons for this, such as long hours spent in front of a TV, fear of stranger danger when outside.
(Exchange Every Day, 2009) Research, past and present, clearly points to the importance of play for
the healthy and full development of the young child. Piaget theorized that a child s mental models, or
cognitive structures, are based on the child s activities: engagement makes meaning. Many children
today are not benefiting from a balance of intellect and imagination. Play is declining in our schools
and preschools to meet the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the child does with some assistance today, is what the child will do independently tomorrow.
Piaget s and Vygotsky s theories are best known for their insights into the development of thought
processes. Piaget places thinking at the center of child development, Vygotsky s work was concerned
with the development for thinking. While Piaget emphasizes the role of the child s interactions with
physical objects in developing mature forms of thinking. Vygotsky focuses on the child s interactions
with people. Piaget views the child as in independent discoverer , who learns about the world on his
own. We know that young children develop social skills through play, and that they develop critical
thinking skills and language is enriched and vocabulary increased. Play, especially make believe play,
aids in the child s development of the execution function, which is a key role in the child s ability to
self regulate. The curriculum Tools of the Mind approaches learning as socially mediated by peers and
focused on play. Play, especially opportunities for imaginative play, is

The Reflection Of Music
Music is one of the most important parts of human society. It is used as an emotional outlet and allows
people to express themselves. Music is a reflection of self. Music is the relationship between tones
that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey emotions,
thoughts, and ideas. Music is meant to transport an individual to another world, the composer s world.
A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their society. An important part of
the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted people. Music is defined as a practical
activity, and is an art form that has always invited theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music
is everywhere and is in everyone s life but, not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved
into today s genres. Researching, studying and examining early music and its evolution reveals how
music has transformed from simple monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces.
Early forms of music included one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of
instruments, each independently playing different parts. Musicology is the is the process study, inquiry
and reflection of music, while it forms its own context and employs distinct concepts, it s clearly
dependant upon and reflective of music as its subject. Musicological research has not been able to
pinpoint what the music of primitive people or non western

The Fourth Act of The Duchess Essay example
The Fourth Act of The Duchess The first necessity of baroque is that the audience should be gripped,
excited, moved [1] so says Ralph Berry. The fourth act of The Duchess of Malfi certainly succeeds
under all these criteria, being the dramatic crux of the play. The events that occur in the first scene are
undoubtedly crucial, but it is the characters vastly varied reactions to them that are vitally important.
Rich imagery is deeply interwoven with the fabric of play indeed, it is an essential part of its function
and the scene s proceedings are completely overshadowed by the telling relationship between
Ferdinand, Bosola and the Duchess that is explored throughout act IV, scene i. Often, it is in the most
trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning, Bosola sums up the Duchess conduct in response to her brother s callous deeds in
one word; nobly (l. 2). This is his first sincerely genial and positive description of someone else in the
entire play. By adding to his sentiments with generous wordage such as majesty (l. 6), loveliness (l. 7)
and perfect (l. 8), Bosola demonstrates how much he has changed. No longer is his sole purpose the
furthering of his own position by any means, with a complete disregard of the consequences toward
others, but now, an awakening of conscience and ethics has happened, and Bosola is capable of telling
the truth and not using every opportunity for manipulation. This is a seemingly effortless personality
shift, yet one is left to wonder as to the extent of the unseen torment and wrestling as Bosola s
compassion starts to shine through. Still ambivalence and ambiguity remain and, when the false
corpses of the Duchess family are revealed, it is possible to speculate as to whether there is any degree
of divided loyalty. Bosola may be torn between his commitment to himself in his contract to
Ferdinand and the altruistic approach of telling the Duchess, who has helped him learn to feel
empathy, the truth. This time, he defies his emotions to do what he has been ordered, and allows his
common sense to lead to familiar

My Thoughts About The Class
My thoughts about the class changed throughout the 10 weeks in the quarter. I thought the class was
going to be boring but it turned out really good. I really like the exercises that we do in class because
they help you create a better character for scenes. My final performance went really well; I was really
nervous to perform in front of the class because I thought they wouldn t like the scene but after
performing I got great compliments. I forgot some lines, but I didn t let it show so I had to stall so I
could remember my lines and finish the scene. I had a really great partner, we both contributed to
making this great scene we both traded off doing the work like blocking the scene and writing the
script to have a complete version. When performing and creating the script I thought of phrases from
the reading to help me through the scene like: listening to my partner, knowing my lines, creating a
character, and blocking. I think they really help us create a great scene. We rehearsed a lot so we can
could do great for the final we both worked really hard to perform the scene.
Overall, it went really well for the first time writing a script and then after performing it for the class. I
think this class help me create a character for the final scene really well physically and sometimes
emotionally because the character was the opposite of what I would do. I think with the exercises that
we did in class like hot seat that help me get an idea on how my character would sound so

Chinese Culture And Western Culture In Child Rearing
Introduction
Culture is a set of values that are ingrained in human beings from birth. They define our actions, our
view of what is good, fair, and just, and shape the way we live our lives. The definition of cross
cultural values and beliefs is that of where people from different countries or regions interact, bringing
their different values, viewpoints, and practices unique to their culture (Dictionary, 2017). In this
literature review, we will analyze the differences between Chinese and Western culture in child
rearing, with a focus on the impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts,
how children accommodate or resist those socialization efforts, and finally, we will discuss the
implications for parents and teachers.
Socializing behavior is defined as behavior enacted towards children, or in the presence of children, to
induce or shape their behavior or understanding of behavior (LeCuyer Zhang, 2015).
The impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts
The Chinese culture is known for its collectivism with focus on group success over personal success,
and hierarchal authority where children are expected to obey parents, teachers, and other authorities in
power. This style is characterized by attempts to shape and control the child according to absolute
standards, with a high value of obedience to authoritative figures (Lieber, Fung, Wing Leung Leung,
2006). Chinese people, in general, are more willing to

Importance Of Credibility In Public Speaking
Ordinarily, to establish credibility, public speakers should earn the audience s trust and respect by
presenting themselves as authorities on the topic that they are speaking. Consequently, the speaker
should not rely on the content of their speech to gain credibility with the audience. Self presentation is
important too since the public will start judging the communicator before the speaker begins to
communicate verbally. Establish the authority to the public by speaking about the topic by stating the
source of where the knowledge: experience, training, or research came into perspective. When
speaking to a skeptical audience, begin by finding common ground. Acknowledge the appeal of the

When in doubt, choose the side of formal professional attire. Second, look at the public because it
shows sincerity. Nevertheless, the speakers who make eye contact with the audience appear more
open, trustworthy, and confident. Notwithstanding, if reading from a script or consulting cue cards,
look up frequently to maintain the connection with the audience. Third, the necessary step to establish
credibility is to speak loudly, clearly, and confidently. Confidence has become known to cause
contagious if a person has confidence, the audience will catch it quickly.
Fourth, tell your audience about your credentials because trust has become contagious to fans will
begin to believe more readily if an individual can prove that others value the person s expertise.
Credentials include certifications, relative degrees, recommendations, testimonials, volunteering
experience, work experience, and informally, other types of personal experience. Fifth, reveal a
personal connection to the chosen topic. Answer questions for the audience what has become at stake
for the speaker? How has the subject affected the speaker s individual s life? If it is appropriate, then
share a personal anecdote illustrates to establish a relationship to the topic. Lastly, step six builds

I am able to call and talk to my mom pretty often. Classes are going good. Not all people here are

I hope to take my G.E.D. test before I get out of here and try to make my mother proud. Until next
time...
Memo/Recommendations:
I would like to have had more information about what type of gang that Xander was affiliated with,
the duration of time that he had been with them, the type of gang activities that they conducted and
maybe a little more history. I would have also liked to have known how the concealed gun was found
on Xander, was he in the commission of a crime especially if it was a felony, that would have possibly
changed the degree of charge he may have gotten.

Long-Term Effects Of Bullying
Bullying has occurred throughout the entire history of schools. The effects of bullying can impact you
and your peers. It can also affect everyone around you, including your parents, teachers, and those
who you probably don t even know. Bullying comes in many forms as well. Some examples that
connects to bullying is cyber bullying, verbal bullying, physical bullying, social bullying, and sexual
bullying.
Studies show that kids that are being bullied tend to have trouble sleeping, suffer from depression, and
anxiety. The long terms effects of bullying will scar one emotionally and physically. It will also last
throughout his or her entire life. Most people should be aware that anything that s posted on the web

Physical bullying is when a bully deflects physical attacks on the victim. They would either beat their
victim, shove them, trip them, push them, and a whole lot more that involves physical force. Social
bullying is when a bully uses their connections around his or her friend circle to hurt the victim
without getting their hands dirty. How this works is that a bully who is no longer friends with you
victim being spread fake rumors and try to convince everyone turn their back on the you. Sexual
bullying when your gender is being used to inflict pain to another person or you personally. Sexual
bullying and sexual harassment are similar to each other, but different. It is a performance in which,
you degrade someone. It can either be by physical violence, or mistreating someone because of their
appearance. A survey that was issued at the UK National Union of Teachers shows that sexual
bullying involves boys bullying girls. The survey also shows that girls do harass other girls and there
some incidents where girls harass boys in a sexual manner do occurs but very rarely. Their findings

The Importance Of Chromosomes
nuclear transfer. But, even after days, the follicles didn t develop. The exact reason is unknown but
they assumed it to be either because of the DNA or nucleus condition or incompatibility between
mouse oocyte and mammoth nucleus.
Then again let us assume that we find an intact nucleus having a proper DNA inside it, there are still
many obstacles to overcome. One being lack of enough knowledge and information about the number
of chromosomes that mammoths possessed. Moreover, Y chromosome in a mammal is typically very
small and repetitive, therefore, making it hard to sort it out. But, the solution can be sequencing only
the female species. Also, determining the exact sequence of other regions including centromere is
almost impossible. So, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the experiment, they took frozen samples of ovarian tissue from African elephants and
transplanted it into mice. After several days they observed mature follicles develop inside the ovary of
the mice. This showed that it was indeed possible to transplant tissues from ovaries of one animal to
another (Henry, 2008).
Another is to transfer the mammoth nucleus, for this, it is first necessary to remove the elephant s
nucleus. Another important component beside nucleus is the mitochondria and it has to be compatible
with each other. Even though mammoths and elephants are closely related, there s still a risk. So, the
solution that the researchers proposed was to replace the elephant s mitochondria with synthetic ones
and this is indeed plausible because mammoth s mitochondria have already been sequenced. While
doing this it is also necessary to make sure that there aren t any remains of elephant s mitochondria
left inside the cell which might fuse with the newer one.
Finally, the last step is to transfer the fertilized egg to a suitable surrogate. The main concern here is
whether the surrogate is suitable to harbor the mammoth fetus but evidence gained form preserved
mammoths have found that size is not a problem since they are similar in terms of size and height
(Henry, 2008).
All the steps are just a possibility because when an organism dies, DNA decay starts almost
immediately. So, the samples

The civil war was an ugly fight between the North, which was called the Union, they were against
slavery, and the South who were called the Confederacy, they were for slavery. During the civil war
both the south and north needed African American to serve in many things such as, helping build
fortifications, to put artillery in place and meet other military needs. This connects to my learning by
saying that the military needed help building forts and putting things together. The Northern and
Southern armies had very different views of African Americans military service in the Civil War. One
way that we know this is by looking at two recruitment posters. A confederate recruitment poster from
1862 shows that the south viewed blacks as laborors.

A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town s Latin
school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy:
dark and well lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable, snug
and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.
The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during
this time. My parents home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways
strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and
purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were
sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty, love,
forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life,
one made sure one was in league with this world.
The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language,
promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and
servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious
things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows,
horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel,

Separating Mixtures By Kaylan Hook And Luke Trueblood
Separating Mixtures
By Kaylan Hook and Luke Trueblood
Depending on whether a mixture is homogeneous or heterogeneous, there are many forms of
separation. Separating a mixture means to divide the substances into one or more distinct parts. There
are multiple ways to separate a mixture. Filtration, simple distillation, liquid chromatography, and
centrifugation are four ways that liquids or gases can be divided into different parts.
Filtration means the action of separating a heterogeneous mixture through a filtering medium.
Filtration removes suspended particles from a liquid. The fluid can be a liquid, a gas or a supercritical
fluid. A supercritical fluid has a pressure and temperature exceeding its critical point. They can
remove impurities from the substance. There are many different ways to carry out this process, one of
the most common and well known methods of filtration would be a water filter. Most people have
some sort of Brita water filter in their household. That is a very simple example of how mixtures can
be separated. The Brita filter removes chemicals, minerals, and other impurities that could be found in
your drinking water. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simple distillation can be effective if the different substances have a fifty or more degree distinction in
their boiling points. In this generally a boiling flask is used with a thermometer to detect the boiling
point of the substances. A condenser is attached that has cold water passing continuously which then
leads to another flask that contains the purified liquid. A liquid is boiled into a vapor which is then
concentrated back into a liquid form. This process happens to be a very common form of purifying
organic liquids. An organic liquid is a compound containing

What is the case for Public Sector intervention if this is already happening? Talking specifically about
SME s, the final report (Feb. 2004) of the European Go Digital Awareness campaign 2001 2003 shows

The Family Bond Between Bone And Her Mother Dorothy...
Identity is an essential part of the human personality; the first stages of identity development often
form the core and foundation of who a person will become. While there are multitudes of contributing
factors in the formation of identity, such as class, ethnicity, and social norms, familial influence is the
most evidenced factor in Dorothy Allison s Bastard out of Carolina. The core identity of the main
character and narrator of the book, Bone, is largely influenced through the slow breaking of the
maternal bond and the horrid abuse by Daddy Glen.
When Bastard out of Carolina first begins Bone is narrating the story; however, the book is not yet
seen from her viewpoint, but rather from varied perspectives or as a pure narrative. It is not until
chapter two that the point of view becomes Bone s permanently. The reason behind this transition
from various perspectives to Bone s is the maternal bond between Bone and her mother Anney. The
bond between mother and daughter is still at its peak in the first chapter, leading to an extreme lack of
identity in Bone. This utter lack of self prevents the viewpoint from being Bone s until the second
chapter when she first shows signs of becoming an individual.
Bone truly begins her journey towards discovering her identity the moment she starts hanging around
her uncles, and has the thought: Some days I would grind my teeth, wishing I had been born a boy

Introducing Safe Harbour Agreement
On October 1998, data protection came into effect by the directors of European Commission. It
prohibits transferring of personal data from European countries to non European countries if they do
not meet the European standards.
The United States taken a different approach to protect the citizens data. Both European Union and

The Marshmallow Effect
Marshmallow Effect Scientists often attribute adaptive and goal directed human behavior to an
intellectual control system that organizes, monitors, and alters the settings of lower level perceptive
processes. This allows people to suppress or replace impulsive, habitual, or inappropriate actions. The
Marshmallow Effect is an experiment conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the 1970 s to
study self control in children (Walter, 2013). This experiment is a simple but effective when it comes
to the modern study of the human ability to delay gratification. The studies are about achievement
situations and what influences a child to reach his or her choice. The ability to delay gratification has
commonly been seen in large part as an issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Film Analysis Of The Critique Of William Shakespeare
The playwright is William Shakespeare. The director is Melissa Chalsma. The actors are: Duke
Vincento, later in disguise, as Friar Lodovico is David Melville. Angelo, his chosen deputy is William
Elsman. Isabella, a novitiate of the church is Kalean Ung. Claudio, her brother is Evan Lewis Smith.
Juliet, his beloved is Donna Zadeh. Lucio, a nobleman of Vienna is Nikhil Pai. Gentleman and women
are Bukola Ogunmela, April Fritz, and Nathan Nonhof. Mistress Overdone, a local businesswoman is
Xavi Moreno. Pompey Bum, her bawd is Lorenzo Gonzalez. Francisca, a nun is Bukola Ogunmola.
Friar Peter is Patrick Batiste. Provost, in command of the prison is Joseph Culliton. Elbow, a constable
is Richard Azurdia. Froth, a gentleman of Vienna is Patrick Batiste. Abhorson, an executioner is
Nathan Nonhof. Barnardine, a murderer is Xavi Moreno. Mariana, a gentlewoman of Vienna is April
Fritz. A Musician is Donna Zadeh. The name of the play, I saw was Measure for Measure. The
Independent Shakespeare Company at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival hosted the play. I
saw it on July 7, 2017. During the play, I noticed a few different themes. Some of the theme I noticed
was justice, lying, mortality, and sin. Justice was present through the whole play; in fact, it was the
heart and soul of the play. Justice was present when Claudio was sentenced to be killed and the Duke
allowed Angelo to change Vienna s laws.
Measure for Measure to me was an interesting and convincing play. The part that worked the best was
when the Duke disguising himself as Friar. I would of never known the disguise without the program.
Another bit that worked well was when Claudio was arrested and sentenced to death. The opening,
when the Duke did the announcements, it was hilarious. The part where I felt scared was after Claudio
had sex with Juliet. The part where I felt sad was when Claudio was sentenced to death. Overall the
characters were entertaining. Most of the characters were genuine. The productions had a religious
message for the audience. The message was not to have sex before marriage.
The characters were all believable. The two characters that stuck out the most to me were Claudio,
Evan Lewis Smith and Abhorson, Nathan Nonhof. Evan

Servant Leadership In Nursing
In both passages Greenleaf and in Biblical verses it is congruently agreed upon that servant leadership,
is a naturally calling that transcends both education and standard conformity. The only authority
deserving one s allegiance is that which is freely and knowingly granted to the led by the leader in
response to, and in proportion to the clearly evident servant nature of the leader (Greenleaf, 2002). In
anticipation of becoming a leader within a healthcare field this writer plans to utilize the teachings of
Matthew 20: 20 28 for guidance in becoming one with whom you serve. As mentioned in passage 26
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and
whoever wants to be first must be

Grand Ole Opry
The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee started out as a small radio broadcasting station, but has
since then turned into a massive variety show that people claim made country music famous. I visited
and toured the Grand Ole Opry this past winter and was inspired to explore its history, what the small
radio broadcasting station used to be like, and what made it grow into such a huge success that has
attracted millions.
In November of 1925, founder of the grand ole opry, George Dewey Hay, was seeking a new location
for the perfect radio station that would be equally successful as the one he had created in Chicago.
This radio station, also known as We Shield Millions (WWS) started out as a station that played old
time country music, which involved fiddles and harmonicas. These instruments are what gave the
radio station it s supposed rural sound. As the 1930 s rolled around the corner, the producers of the
WWS station decided to update the music and make it more modern, hoping this would attract more
listeners. This tactic worked very well for the producers of the show. As they started to get more
listeners, they decided to make live shows out of the radio show and to charge admission to those who
came to watch the show live. This is where the radio station, which got the name the grand ole opry ...

Grand Ole Opry is also very inspiring because we see the business had some tough times, but they still

Our Helpless Dependance on Technology
Technology started out as a necessity, people needed it back when they weren t guaranteed safety,
heat, shelter etc. Technology similarly started off by accidental discoveries that slowly morphed into
technology today. Technology in the past is much more different than what it is today. Take the
example of fire. Fire started by accident but furthermore led to expansion into creating bigger fires. To
be exact this happened because there was a need to keep warm and have a source of light. The
discovery may have led to the idea that they need more fires. Maintaining fires accordingly may have
led into the discovery of cooking, because of the need to cook and food to be nutritious must have
been very important. Technology in the past meant slowly advancing to make lives easier. If you see
technology today the first few things you think are, computers, tablets, and other common household
objects. With the fast pace of technology today, technology is harming our businesses, brains and our
bodies. The fast pace of technology as a result has played a big part in running us and our society. As
technology advances (which is a good thing) so does our total dependency on it makes it run our
society. The fast pace of technology consequently doubles our dependency therefore harming us
physically, emotionally and physcologically.
Technology isn t the reason why it is hurting us, it is our dependence on technology that hurts. To
illustrate the idea of the dependance on technlogy when the

The Big Pine, Garlock, And San Andreas Fault
The three faults being considered are thought to have influenced the character of some 120,000 square
miles. The Big Pine, Garlock, and San Andreas faults are all mutually active, deep, long, and steep and
noted as being conjugate shears. In concert, the faults have defined a primary strain pattern of relative
east west extension and north south shortening of the area of 120,000 square miles. The large region is
noted for its deformity, with the source of this being a northeast southwest counterclockwise
compressive couple. The compressive couple was potentially supported through drag as a result of the
deep seated movement of rock material from the Pacific region (Hill Dibblee, 1953). The interaction
of the faults in the San Andreas region since the Jurassic period have served to shape and contour the
present geology of the land, while a study of the paleontology of the region likewise requires such
knowledge to effectively determine conditions at any given point in time.
Tectonic Stress and the San Andreas Fault According to Townend and Zoback (2004) the San Andreas
Fault (SAF) region has been noted for its possession of stress orientations in addition to the lack of a
distinct heat flow anomaly at the trace of the fault. These findings indicate that there are average shear
tractions that are less than 20 25 MPa in the seismogenic upper crust. Oftentimes, shear tractions
measure approximately 5 times greater than in the SAF. Due to the presence of high

Peter Capaldi Essay On Doctor Who
Peter Capaldi, Doctor Who
After watching the first two episodes of Doctor Who s ninth season, it has become clear Peter Capaldi
is on his way to becoming one for the greatest Doctors, if not the greatest Doctor Who, of all time.
Capaldi s portrayal of The Doctor is truly inspired by the classic, original series (1963 1989), while
still being completely modern.
Warning: This post contains information about the Doctor Who television series that may be
considered spoilers. I have tried to keep as much specific details about episodes out, but if you are not
fully caught up watching there may be information that discloses plot details. Also, the article is
written presuming the reader has some knowledge of Doctor Who. If you have never watched the
show, what is wrong with you?

Those of my generation may favor Baker and Pertwee. All true fans inherently agree to accept change.
The return of a classic Doctor
Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker
There was no doubt Capaldi found inspiration from classic Doctor Who, specifically the first four
incarnations. Over the course of season eight, I was personally reminded of both Jon Pertwee and Tom
Baker s Doctors. However, it looks as though we will truly see him become a classic Doctor Who in
season 9.
Capaldi s Doctor is a bit cold and distant, much like William Hartnell s First Doctor. He needs Clara
Oswald much like the First Doctor needed his granddaughter Susan. This Doctor has been described
as abrasive, patronising, and cantankerous all of which can also be said of the Twelfth Doctor.
Patrick Troughton s Second Doctor may have the least influence inspiring this new version, but the
element s are there. This Doctor is known for being a calculating schemer and manipulator, who acted
a bit of a fool to get his enemies to underestimate him. We certainly saw some of that in the opening
two episodes of the 9th

My Graduate Career At Mount Holyoke College
During my undergraduate career at Mount Holyoke College, I have taken an array of courses; with
topics ranging from GIS to geomorphology to a field course that involves a ten day trip to Death
Valley National Park in California. My multidisciplinary knowledge of the geosciences granted me the
privilege to join a research project with a fellow student and her advisor, Professor Alan Werner.
Conducted through Harvard Forest, her project assesses the change in stratigraphy within sediment
cores in Marblehead, Massachusetts. I am responsible for using her previously gathered XRF scanner
data to determine the paleoclimate immediately following the glacial maximum about 14,000 years
ago. I also have access to data showing the core s magnetic susceptibility and organic matter content.
Through the analysis of this data, I hope to determine the levels of chemical elements, associated with
a marine setting, that are present in these sediment cores. My primary objective is to determine
whether or not this area of Massachusetts is a continuation of the Presumpscot Formation in Maine.
From this experience, I have gained knowledge in data analysis and how to write a scientific report
describing my findings in the data and what they mean for understanding the paleoclimate of
Marblehead, Massachusetts. This kind of skillset is transferrable across all scientific research, and the
ability to conduct a research project specific to my interests will allow me to further develop my skills

Islam and Christianity Comparative Religious Study
Islam and Christianity are significantly different religions with its followers holding many opposing
views and theories. Therefore, most find it somewhat challenging to acknowledge any common
morals or similarities between Christianity and Islam. Through the comparative study of these two
religions, one can identify such similarities and differences. Comparative religion is the examination
of different religions and how they relate to one another. It is becoming a large factor in present day
discourse mainly because diverse, pious groups are having closer contact both individually and
collectively (McGuigan). The goal of comparative religion is to train individuals to critically think
about the cultural, social, historical, and intellectual circumstances within religious relationships.
Although Christianity and Islam are considered different religions, one must fully understand each to
recognize the many commonalities they do, in fact, share.
Christians and Muslims beliefs tend to resemble up to the point of Abraham. After Abraham, the ideas
and theories start changing. In the Bible, Abraham was the son of Terah. God told Abraham that his
descendants would grow and become slaves of a great nation, but then shall come out of that land with

This source is mixed method as it has both primary and secondary research. It uses statistics to show
the amount of people that are using antidepressants which is the secondary aspect. The different types
of harmful effects that antidepressants have on the human body are primary because it has been
researched and studied. Paul Andrews is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology,
Neuroscience and Behavior at McMaster University in Canada. He has also done research in the
evolution of depression. Paul Andrews is an expert in the field of depression and antidepressant
medication. This source was also analyzed by Anderson Thompson who also specializes in psychiatry.
This was published in September 2012, but this research was compiled over the years. The
information is up to date but recently others have challenged the harmful effects of antidepressants.
Purpose
This source was created because many individuals who are taking antidepressants are not aware of the
harmful effects that it has. It gives people an understanding of what can occur when taking
antidepressants. Antidepressants can reduce the depression that is occurring but with that can come
many other effects which could be worse than what you are already feeling. This source is simply to
make people aware that antidepressants have side effects that can be life threatening.

The Trauma of Killing Essay
The United States military continues to engage in one of the longest periods of combat operations in
our nation s history. One of the results is an increase in the amount of persons suffering Post traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) (2000), a precursor
to PTSD is the experience of an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious
injury to self or others. Grossman (2009) argues that an additional factor, the emotional and spiritual
response to killing another human being, also takes a tremendous toll on the mental health of returning
soldiers. Forty eight to sixty five percent of soldiers returning from Operation Enduring Freedom have
reported killing an enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to their role as the official motto of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the
words Duty, Honor, (and) Country serve to embody the conditioning that each recruit, both officer and
enlisted, undergoes in all military branches. Each soldier is taught that they have an absolute
responsibility to their fellow soldiers and the country they serve and to fail to uphold that
responsibility can never be justified. This fear of failure, writes Grossman (2009) is one of the primary
means the military uses to overcome soldier s innate aversion to killing other human beings. It is also
the fear that allows soldier s to overcome the fear of death and take heroic actions (Nash, 2007). When
a soldier perceives he has failed to live up to these standards, shame may result.
The Stages of Killing
Grossman (2009) writes that killing involves a series of emotions, beginning with concern before the
killing, and followed by exhilaration, remorse, rationalization, and acceptance following the killing.
Before a soldier kills for the first time, he or she will often have concerns regarding whether he or she
will satisfactorily perform his or her duties or will let down fellow fighters by freezing or in some
other fashion failing to properly engage the enemy. This fear of failure is generally mixed with the
general fear of being killed or injured and

Strategic Direction On The United States
The United States will not be able to effectively rebalance the Joint Force in 2025 unless sequestration
is reversed. The current U.S. strategic direction has prompted a shift of military resources to the Asia
Pacific. Globalization, cyber attacks and advances in technology will further challenge the Joint
Forces in the next ten years. It is imperative that the U.S. Joint Forces be adequately funded in order to
identify and develop critical technology, establish policies and maintain adequate force structure to
rebalance the Joint Force in 2025.
Diminishing resources and lack of predictability within the military budget process will introduce
significant strategic, military and political risk. Joint Forces capability, capacity and readiness
requirements are derived from the National Security Strategy, National Military Strategy and the
Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) and provide the framework for Joint Force future strategy.
Sequestration has severely impacted the Joint Forces ability to plan and program resources necessary
to achieve these strategic objectives. Sequestration requires the DOD to execute across the board cuts
from all accounts and has limited the department s ability to move resources to accounts with greater
needs. This has not only impacted readiness and force structure, but has also reduced investment in
new weapon systems. Research and development is necessary in order to field new technologies that
will enable the Joint Force to keep ahead of

The functional costs of marketing, financing, and administration are gathered in cost pools, and they
are used in the time that they are incurred, these costs are not considered as product costs and they are

Full costing regards all costs to be product costs. Therefore, all overhead costs are assigned to costs of
production for specific products. Traditional costing contains only the costs for those elements that
change with the production of an added unit of good or service.
Difference between ABC and TCA
Both traditional costing and activity based costing methods estimate overhead costs connected to
production and allocate these costs to products based on a cost driver rate. The differences are in the
precision and density of the two methods. Traditional costing is more basic and less accurate than
ABC, and typically gives overhead costs to products based on a subjective average rate. ABC is more
complicated and more accurate than traditional costing. This technique gives indirect costs to activities
and then gives the costs to products based on the products practice of the activities. It is widely known
that the traditional costing system uses a single, volume based cost driver. This is why the traditional
product costing system alters the cost of products. In most cases this type of costing system gives the
overhead costs to products on

  • 2. Real Play and Piaget Essay examples Real Play Play that is initiated and directed by children and that bubbles up from within the child rather than being imposed by adults is disappearing from our landscape of childhood. There are many reasons for this, such as long hours spent in front of a TV, fear of stranger danger when outside. (Exchange Every Day, 2009) Research, past and present, clearly points to the importance of play for the healthy and full development of the young child. Piaget theorized that a child s mental models, or cognitive structures, are based on the child s activities: engagement makes meaning. Many children today are not benefiting from a balance of intellect and imagination. Play is declining in our schools and preschools to meet the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What the child does with some assistance today, is what the child will do independently tomorrow. Piaget s and Vygotsky s theories are best known for their insights into the development of thought processes. Piaget places thinking at the center of child development, Vygotsky s work was concerned with the development for thinking. While Piaget emphasizes the role of the child s interactions with physical objects in developing mature forms of thinking. Vygotsky focuses on the child s interactions with people. Piaget views the child as in independent discoverer , who learns about the world on his own. We know that young children develop social skills through play, and that they develop critical thinking skills and language is enriched and vocabulary increased. Play, especially make believe play, aids in the child s development of the execution function, which is a key role in the child s ability to self regulate. The curriculum Tools of the Mind approaches learning as socially mediated by peers and focused on play. Play, especially opportunities for imaginative play, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Reflection Of Music Music is one of the most important parts of human society. It is used as an emotional outlet and allows people to express themselves. Music is a reflection of self. Music is the relationship between tones that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Music is meant to transport an individual to another world, the composer s world. A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their society. An important part of the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted people. Music is defined as a practical activity, and is an art form that has always invited theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music is everywhere and is in everyone s life but, not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved into today s genres. Researching, studying and examining early music and its evolution reveals how music has transformed from simple monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces. Early forms of music included one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of instruments, each independently playing different parts. Musicology is the is the process study, inquiry and reflection of music, while it forms its own context and employs distinct concepts, it s clearly dependant upon and reflective of music as its subject. Musicological research has not been able to pinpoint what the music of primitive people or non western ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Fourth Act of The Duchess Essay example The Fourth Act of The Duchess The first necessity of baroque is that the audience should be gripped, excited, moved [1] so says Ralph Berry. The fourth act of The Duchess of Malfi certainly succeeds under all these criteria, being the dramatic crux of the play. The events that occur in the first scene are undoubtedly crucial, but it is the characters vastly varied reactions to them that are vitally important. Rich imagery is deeply interwoven with the fabric of play indeed, it is an essential part of its function and the scene s proceedings are completely overshadowed by the telling relationship between Ferdinand, Bosola and the Duchess that is explored throughout act IV, scene i. Often, it is in the most trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning, Bosola sums up the Duchess conduct in response to her brother s callous deeds in one word; nobly (l. 2). This is his first sincerely genial and positive description of someone else in the entire play. By adding to his sentiments with generous wordage such as majesty (l. 6), loveliness (l. 7) and perfect (l. 8), Bosola demonstrates how much he has changed. No longer is his sole purpose the furthering of his own position by any means, with a complete disregard of the consequences toward others, but now, an awakening of conscience and ethics has happened, and Bosola is capable of telling the truth and not using every opportunity for manipulation. This is a seemingly effortless personality shift, yet one is left to wonder as to the extent of the unseen torment and wrestling as Bosola s compassion starts to shine through. Still ambivalence and ambiguity remain and, when the false corpses of the Duchess family are revealed, it is possible to speculate as to whether there is any degree of divided loyalty. Bosola may be torn between his commitment to himself in his contract to Ferdinand and the altruistic approach of telling the Duchess, who has helped him learn to feel empathy, the truth. This time, he defies his emotions to do what he has been ordered, and allows his common sense to lead to familiar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Thoughts About The Class My thoughts about the class changed throughout the 10 weeks in the quarter. I thought the class was going to be boring but it turned out really good. I really like the exercises that we do in class because they help you create a better character for scenes. My final performance went really well; I was really nervous to perform in front of the class because I thought they wouldn t like the scene but after performing I got great compliments. I forgot some lines, but I didn t let it show so I had to stall so I could remember my lines and finish the scene. I had a really great partner, we both contributed to making this great scene we both traded off doing the work like blocking the scene and writing the script to have a complete version. When performing and creating the script I thought of phrases from the reading to help me through the scene like: listening to my partner, knowing my lines, creating a character, and blocking. I think they really help us create a great scene. We rehearsed a lot so we can could do great for the final we both worked really hard to perform the scene. Overall, it went really well for the first time writing a script and then after performing it for the class. I think this class help me create a character for the final scene really well physically and sometimes emotionally because the character was the opposite of what I would do. I think with the exercises that we did in class like hot seat that help me get an idea on how my character would sound so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Chinese Culture And Western Culture In Child Rearing Introduction Culture is a set of values that are ingrained in human beings from birth. They define our actions, our view of what is good, fair, and just, and shape the way we live our lives. The definition of cross cultural values and beliefs is that of where people from different countries or regions interact, bringing their different values, viewpoints, and practices unique to their culture (Dictionary, 2017). In this literature review, we will analyze the differences between Chinese and Western culture in child rearing, with a focus on the impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts, how children accommodate or resist those socialization efforts, and finally, we will discuss the implications for parents and teachers. Socializing behavior is defined as behavior enacted towards children, or in the presence of children, to induce or shape their behavior or understanding of behavior (LeCuyer Zhang, 2015). The impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts The Chinese culture is known for its collectivism with focus on group success over personal success, and hierarchal authority where children are expected to obey parents, teachers, and other authorities in power. This style is characterized by attempts to shape and control the child according to absolute standards, with a high value of obedience to authoritative figures (Lieber, Fung, Wing Leung Leung, 2006). One being lack of enough knowledge and information about the number of chromosomes that mammoths possessed. Moreover, Y chromosome in a mammal is typically very small and repetitive, therefore, making it hard to sort it out. But, the solution can be sequencing only the female species. Also, determining the exact sequence of other regions including centromere is almost impossible. So, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the experiment, they took frozen samples of ovarian tissue from African elephants and transplanted it into mice. After several days they observed mature follicles develop inside the ovary of the mice. This showed that it was indeed possible to transplant tissues from ovaries of one animal to another (Henry, 2008). Another is to transfer the mammoth nucleus, for this, it is first necessary to remove the elephant s nucleus. Another important component beside nucleus is the mitochondria and it has to be compatible with each other. Even though mammoths and elephants are closely related, there s still a risk. So, the solution that the researchers proposed was to replace the elephant s mitochondria with synthetic ones and this is indeed plausible because mammoth s mitochondria have already been sequenced. While doing this it is also necessary to make sure that there aren t any remains of elephant s mitochondria left inside the cell which might fuse with the newer one. Finally, the last step is to transfer the fertilized egg to a suitable surrogate. The main concern here is whether the surrogate is suitable to harbor the mammoth fetus but evidence gained form preserved mammoths have found that size is not a problem since they are similar in terms of size and height (Henry, 2008). All the steps are just a possibility because when an organism dies, DNA decay starts almost immediately. So, the samples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Short Story Of A Ghost Story I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town s Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy: dark and well lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets. The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during this time. My parents home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty, love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life, one made sure one was in league with this world. The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language, promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows, horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. Separating Mixtures By Kaylan Hook And Luke Trueblood Separating Mixtures By Kaylan Hook and Luke Trueblood Depending on whether a mixture is homogeneous or heterogeneous, there are many forms of separation. Separating a mixture means to divide the substances into one or more distinct parts. There are multiple ways to separate a mixture. Filtration, simple distillation, liquid chromatography, and centrifugation are four ways that liquids or gases can be divided into different parts. Filtration means the action of separating a heterogeneous mixture through a filtering medium. Filtration removes suspended particles from a liquid. The fluid can be a liquid, a gas or a supercritical fluid. A supercritical fluid has a pressure and temperature exceeding its critical point. They can remove impurities from the substance. There are many different ways to carry out this process, one of the most common and well known methods of filtration would be a water filter. Most people have some sort of Brita water filter in their household. That is a very simple example of how mixtures can be separated. Simple distillation can be effective if the different substances have a fifty or more degree distinction in their boiling points. • 17. The Family Bond Between Bone And Her Mother Dorothy... Identity is an essential part of the human personality; the first stages of identity development often form the core and foundation of who a person will become. While there are multitudes of contributing factors in the formation of identity, such as class, ethnicity, and social norms, familial influence is the most evidenced factor in Dorothy Allison s Bastard out of Carolina. The core identity of the main character and narrator of the book, Bone, is largely influenced through the slow breaking of the maternal bond and the horrid abuse by Daddy Glen. When Bastard out of Carolina first begins Bone is narrating the story; however, the book is not yet seen from her viewpoint, but rather from varied perspectives or as a pure narrative. It is not until chapter two that the point of view becomes Bone s permanently. The reason behind this transition from various perspectives to Bone s is the maternal bond between Bone and her mother Anney. The bond between mother and daughter is still at its peak in the first chapter, leading to an extreme lack of identity in Bone. This utter lack of self prevents the viewpoint from being Bone s until the second chapter when she first shows signs of becoming an individual. Bone truly begins her journey towards discovering her identity the moment she starts hanging around her uncles, and has the thought: Some days I would grind my teeth, wishing I had been born a boy (23). This radio station, also known as We Shield Millions (WWS) started out as a station that played old time country music, which involved fiddles and harmonicas. These instruments are what gave the radio station it s supposed rural sound. As the 1930 s rolled around the corner, the producers of the WWS station decided to update the music and make it more modern, hoping this would attract more listeners. Our Helpless Dependance on Technology Technology started out as a necessity, people needed it back when they weren t guaranteed safety, heat, shelter etc. Technology similarly started off by accidental discoveries that slowly morphed into technology today. Technology in the past is much more different than what it is today. Take the example of fire. Fire started by accident but furthermore led to expansion into creating bigger fires. To be exact this happened because there was a need to keep warm and have a source of light. The discovery may have led to the idea that they need more fires. Maintaining fires accordingly may have led into the discovery of cooking, because of the need to cook and food to be nutritious must have been very important. Technology in the past meant slowly advancing to make lives easier. If you see technology today the first few things you think are, computers, tablets, and other common household objects. With the fast pace of technology today, technology is harming our businesses, brains and our bodies. The fast pace of technology as a result has played a big part in running us and our society. As technology advances (which is a good thing) so does our total dependency on it makes it run our society. The Big Pine, Garlock, and San Andreas faults are all mutually active, deep, long, and steep and noted as being conjugate shears. In concert, the faults have defined a primary strain pattern of relative east west extension and north south shortening of the area of 120,000 square miles. The large region is noted for its deformity, with the source of this being a northeast southwest counterclockwise compressive couple. The compressive couple was potentially supported through drag as a result of the deep seated movement of rock material from the Pacific region (Hill Dibblee, 1953). The interaction of the faults in the San Andreas region since the Jurassic period have served to shape and contour the present geology of the land, while a study of the paleontology of the region likewise requires such knowledge to effectively determine conditions at any given point in time. Tectonic Stress and the San Andreas Fault According to Townend and Zoback (2004) the San Andreas Fault (SAF) region has been noted for its possession of stress orientations in addition to the lack of a distinct heat flow anomaly at the trace of the fault. This was published in September 2012, but this research was compiled over the years. The information is up to date but recently others have challenged the harmful effects of antidepressants. Purpose This source was created because many individuals who are taking antidepressants are not aware of the harmful effects that it has. It gives people an understanding of what can occur when taking antidepressants. Antidepressants can reduce the depression that is occurring but with that can come many other effects which could be worse than what you are already feeling. This source is simply to make people aware that antidepressants have side effects that can be life threatening. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Citrix has been always known as an application virtualization which focuses on delivering applications to a multitude of edge devices from PCs to smart phones. Citrix also have some of VDI offerings. VDI is generally named for Virtual Desktops or more specifically as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. There are two kinds of VDI which are Server hosted desktop and Client hosted desktop. In Server hosted desktop the desktops can no longer bound to a location and in Client hosted desktop, virtual machines run locally on the client device. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) refers to the process of running a user desktop inside a virtual machine which lives on a server in the datacenter. It is a powerful form of ... • 35. The Trauma of Killing Essay The United States military continues to engage in one of the longest periods of combat operations in our nation s history. One of the results is an increase in the amount of persons suffering Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) (2000), a precursor to PTSD is the experience of an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury to self or others. Grossman (2009) argues that an additional factor, the emotional and spiritual response to killing another human being, also takes a tremendous toll on the mental health of returning soldiers. Forty eight to sixty five percent of soldiers returning from Operation Enduring Freedom have reported killing an enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to their role as the official motto of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the words Duty, Honor, (and) Country serve to embody the conditioning that each recruit, both officer and enlisted, undergoes in all military branches. Each soldier is taught that they have an absolute responsibility to their fellow soldiers and the country they serve and to fail to uphold that responsibility can never be justified. This fear of failure, writes Grossman (2009) is one of the primary means the military uses to overcome soldier s innate aversion to killing other human beings. It is also the fear that allows soldier s to overcome the fear of death and take heroic actions (Nash, 2007). When a soldier perceives he has failed to live up to these standards, shame may result. The Stages of Killing Grossman (2009) writes that killing involves a series of emotions, beginning with concern before the killing, and followed by exhilaration, remorse, rationalization, and acceptance following the killing. Before a soldier kills for the first time, he or she will often have concerns regarding whether he or she will satisfactorily perform his or her duties or will let down fellow fighters by freezing or in some other fashion failing to properly engage the enemy. This fear of failure is generally mixed with the general fear of being killed or injured and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Strategic Direction On The United States The United States will not be able to effectively rebalance the Joint Force in 2025 unless sequestration is reversed. The current U.S. strategic direction has prompted a shift of military resources to the Asia Pacific. Globalization, cyber attacks and advances in technology will further challenge the Joint Forces in the next ten years. It is imperative that the U.S. Joint Forces be adequately funded in order to identify and develop critical technology, establish policies and maintain adequate force structure to rebalance the Joint Force in 2025. Diminishing resources and lack of predictability within the military budget process will introduce significant strategic, military and political risk. Joint Forces capability, capacity and readiness requirements are derived from the National Security Strategy, National Military Strategy and the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) and provide the framework for Joint Force future strategy. Sequestration has severely impacted the Joint Forces ability to plan and program resources necessary to achieve these strategic objectives. Sequestration requires the DOD to execute across the board cuts from all accounts and has limited the department s ability to move resources to accounts with greater needs. This has not only impacted readiness and force structure, but has also reduced investment in new weapon systems. Research and development is necessary in order to field new technologies that will enable the Joint Force to keep ahead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The functional costs of marketing, financing, and administration are gathered in cost pools, and they are used in the time that they are incurred, these costs are not considered as product costs and they are unrelated to precise products in product profitability comparisons Full costing regards all costs to be product costs. Therefore, all overhead costs are assigned to costs of production for specific products. Traditional costing contains only the costs for those elements that change with the production of an added unit of good or service.
  • 38. Difference between ABC and TCA Both traditional costing and activity based costing methods estimate overhead costs connected to production and allocate these costs to products based on a cost driver rate. The differences are in the precision and density of the two methods. Traditional costing is more basic and less accurate than ABC, and typically gives overhead costs to products based on a subjective average rate. ABC is more complicated and more accurate than traditional costing. This technique gives indirect costs to activities and then gives the costs to products based on the products practice of the activities. It is widely known that the traditional costing system uses a single, volume based cost driver. This is why the traditional product costing system alters the cost of products. In most cases this type of costing system gives the overhead costs to products on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
