The Potential for a Severe Food Shortage in the United States
A severe shortage of food in the United States could occur from many causes. Farms could stop
growing crops and breeding animals. Some sort of bacteria could sweep through the country
killing different food plants. The more important part of the shortage of food however would not
be the causes, but the effects. The stance of the country s economy, the well being of middle and
lower class families, and the quality of stores that used to sell the products would all decline greatly
if an event as severe as an extreme shortage of foodwere to occur. General stores generate a large
profit from the sale of food. Some stores like Whole Foods and King Soopers do not sell much
besides food products. If there were to be a severe shortage of food, stores like Whole Foods,
Walmart, Costco, and King Soopers would take a severe hit in terms of income and the ability
to compete with other stores. Places like these would not be able to keep up financially if there
were a lack of people buying their food products. There are other non food products that these
stores may sell, but these other products would not be able to sell due to the fact that people
would be focusing more on ways to get food rather than buying a new T.V. or a new pair of shoes.
Families in cities rely on general stores and health food stores to obtain food products. A severe
shortage of food throughout the country would raise potentially difficult questions for families.

ABSTRACT:
Cigarette smoking in pregnancy is a universal problem that compels us to continuously explore
different strategies aimed at increasing high quit rates in this population group. Maternal smoking
during pregnancy has been linked to increased risk of obstetric and foetal adverse outcomes.
Barriers to quitting are multi factorial and the approach needs to be versatile and patient specific,
taking into consideration the dynamics of ethnicity, psychosocial and socioeconomic status.
The aim of this paper is to highlight the different strategies that have been evaluated looking at
ways of enabling pregnant women to quit smoking. Furthermore, smoking cessation in special
population groups and global initiatives on smoking regulations are discussed. A database search of
Ovid Medline, Pubmed, Embase and The Cochrane Library was undertaken to identify

My Life In College
Life is a winding road that goes through mountains and over water, but also through mud, ice, and
snow. What I mean by that is that life is something very short, filled with beautiful moments as

Virginia Satir defines self esteem as: a culmination of identity development within a nurturing
and validating enviorment. She believed that feelings of worth can only flourish in an
atmosphare where the individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated,
communication is open and rules are flexible. This she would define as the kind of atmosphare
that is found in a nurturing family. Self esteem thrives in a nurturing enviorment. We will know
and believe that we are loveable if, and only if, we are loved and nurtured by our parents. In
order for children to have a high sense of esteem, parents need to provide validation of their child
s growing abilities and acomplishments. They must validate their child s sexuality, individuality
and care and respect. According to Virginia Satir individuals that received adequate love and
validation, will be people who know that they are lovable, know how to take care of themselves
physically and emotionally, are comfortable with intimacy, and are able to get along well in

Since the United States declared independence from Great Britain in 1776, there has been
numerous amount of legislation passed to increase the difficulty of gaining citizenship for
immigrants. These laws passed were deeply rooted in discriminatory practices for the preservation
