PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you managed this covering
the following areas:
• Technical – On my first day of filming the battery had run out quickly which resulted in
delays of filming and had to do it the next day, additionally I involved lip syncing in my
video, so whilst filming we had the song playing in the background to be as accurate as
possible, however when it came to editing the camera didn't’t record with any sound so I
had to sync up the footage and the audio by sight which caused difficulties and postponed
the process
• Logistical – We used one of the locations but changed another this was because it was
more practical and accessible to use. It had rained the day before filming which isn't what I
had planned as I wanted the video to be set in better weather conditions however I think
the rain worked well as it matched the feel of the music video
• Personnel – I only had one person in the video and he didn't’t let me down however he
couldn't’t film on one of the days due to being busy which meant I had to wait a few days
for him to be available but during this time I went over the footage we had previously got
so I could plan for next time to see what was left to get
• Planning – I think the planning helped a lot as it helped me visualise the type of video I
wanted to create and I could always go back to it and make sure I was on track and had
all the right shots. However I do think I could've planned the ‘story’ better as when it came
to the music video I had to improvise if things weren't going as they planned
• Next steps – I don’t need to do anything to my video as it all worked out as much as it
could have to the original plan
FILMING –
PRODUCTION STILLS
Most of the video I have put into
black and white however when the
chorus comes on I have put some
clips into color
EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc.
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose to work the
way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as this is
necessary for evidence for assessment
• I started editing on Monday 4th November, at first it was difficult as I didn't’t
have enough footage to complete the video which resulted in having to reuse
some of the footage. I completed all my editing by 12th November, the thing I
struggled with most was masking in the video as it was time consuming and
took up a lot of the editing time. I also had to sync up the lyrics with the video
which also took a while as I had to do it by sight as the camera didn't’t record
with any audio.
• I have added some effects to some of the footage because I had to reuse
some of it so adding the effects that made them overlap made it look like it
isn't the same footage.
This is an example of masking,
where as he waked the stones
would light up to reflect the idea
of bringing joy
EDITING –
FILE MANAGEMENT
Screenshot and annotate where you have saved your work
and how you have organised your footage so you know
where it is – this will also include your audio track for your
video and any other images, found footage, etc
I have saved all
my files for my
music video in
this folder,
including the
audio for ‘joy’
All the footage recorded is
located in the DCIM folder
which is on the SD card, this
is because it is easy to find
and locate and I can also
transfer the footage to other
computers if needed
EDITING –
SETTING UP PREMIERE
After searching
for premier
select new
project
Once I had started a
project look under most
recent and select the one
that you want to open
After naming the video
and choosing a place to
save it I then clicked ‘OK’
and didn’t alter any of the
setting up screen
EDITING –
IMPORTING FOOTAGE
Select file and then go
down to import which is
near the bottom of the
list
After selecting import I
went to EOS digital
and then selected
DCIM then opened
100 CANON and 101
CANON then find the
clips you want to
import then click
EDITING –
WORKSPACE
In this section the
clips that you
import appear here
Editing tools – some of
the tools here are the
basics for putting
together the video
Here is the preview of
the footage which
shows what you’re
working on
Headings for
different tools
for example
color
EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
I dragged the footage I wanted from the imported section into the editing
section then I put them in sequence chronologically so I could see the story
and make sure it fit. I then added the audio and had to sync up the footage to
match the audio for the lip syncing part, after doing that I cut the clips to make
it to the beat and then added all the effects to it, which are dissolves. The last
thing I did was masking as it took the longest and I wanted to make sure
everything was done first
EDITING –
REFINEMENT
In my video I used
masking, to do this you
have to copy and paste
the clip you want to mask
over then go into effect
controls and click on the
little icon that looks like a
pen then create a mask
then choose a color
I also put many of the clips
into black and white so to do
this you have to go into
‘effects’ then visual effects
then into image control and
drag the black and white onto
the clip to create the effect
EDITING –
EXPORT Go into file and go down to
export then choose ‘media’ then
change the settings in preset to
YouTube 720p HD then click
export
I then saved it as ‘final video’ in
the folder ‘final stuff for mv’ this
is so I know where all my work
is that needs to be uploaded
for my music video and it’s all
kept together
