The student created a music video and documented the production process. During filming, some shots did not match the lip syncing and technical issues arose from low lighting as filming went late. The locations worked well but permission was not obtained. During editing, the student learned skills in Premiere Pro like adding filters and effects. Problems included software crashes and difficulties aligning audio and video. Main lessons learned were Premiere Pro and filming skills, the importance of planning, and crew communication.

GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?

4. TECHNICAL
For the lip sync, we played the song while filming the shots for the
performer to listen to the song and “sing” it properly and in time,
some shots that were lip synced didn’t match properly so needed to
be edited in post with slow or fast motion or cutting the clip up.
We used my phone to film and made sure it was at 100% charge
before filming, I utilised the wide zoom lens so it could get more in a
shot and managed to make some decent shots such as the foot stomp
or the pan across the abandoned building.
There were some issues with lighting as I filmed all the outside shots
in a single day and it started getting dark so could have fixed that by
filming the next day.

5. LOGISTICAL
We were able to film on the locations (abandoned places) but we
didn’t ask for any permissions but didn’t really need to anyway.
The locations worked very well in my opinion and gave the music
video a mood that wouldn’t have been made by filming somewhere
else.
It didn’t rain or wasn’t too windy but it did start to get dark and so
made a few shots look too dark or flicker from being dark to light.

6. PERSONNEL
My cast (Mel who was filming) did a very good job of doing
what I asked of her and capturing what I was after/ thinking
about in my head, I don’t think she let me down or made a
shot worse than I expected it would look.
we both were easy to manage and did everything we needed
to do before going out and filming, going back home for a
break if necessary.

7. PLANNING
The planning that I made by going into high detail and using lots of
images gave me a very good idea of what I wanted in my music
video and so has helped a lot
There where some shots that didn’t work exactly as I intended but
were very similar and worked fine so this didn’t matter so much,
these shot may have just been too difficult to pull off with our
limited equipment or may have just looked weird in reality.
I think everything worked very well apart from that I should have
planned more for the “filler”. This “filler” would be used when
there was no singing from the performer and something had to be
happening on screen while the video played out, I didn’t properly
plan the “filler” shots so that is what I should have done more of in
my plan.

8. EDITING

this is necessary for evidence for assessment

9. WHAT WENT WELL

Managed to create the filter for the music video by practising
before filming and then refining the filter before exporting it.
I learnt how to add a shaking effect to some shots that were
too still and that didn’t have enough energy.
Created an echo for the audio at the end of the music video
that added more dramatic effect for the end of the music
video.

10. WHAT PROBLEMS DID
YOU HAVE? [3 EXAMPLES]
Premiere pro or the PC I was using crashed on me when I
was trying to get a certain few shots to work together, also
setting me back about half an hour.
The censor bar was very hard to create and was also time
consuming, in the end it didn’t even turn out that good, didn’t
fit in with the filter and was quite janky but was good enough
and I planned lots of shots around the censor bar anyway so
didn’t want to not use it.
With some shots, it was difficult to align the lip syncing and
the audio of the video, I would have to use fast and slow
motion for some shots to make it look better.
