GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?

4. TECHNICAL
I had no problems with my equipment or set ups. The only
problem I ran into whilst filming was either forgetting my
camera, meaning I had to film on my phone in parts which meant
a less quality piece of footage. Or I ran into problems which was
related to my cast and crew helping, they were either off ill or
had to change/cancel plans. I used a white backdrop in the
studio and used coloured film filters to go over the lights to
create warm lighting tones. I used tripods to keep the camera
still and focused. Although there was a few sections and clips
that were filmed with a hand-held camera which was a struggle
at times as I had trouble filming with a steady hand. However, I
had crew assistance to help me out when I was struggling. The
lighting wasn't always the greatest, this was usually due to the
natural lighting and not having lighting equipment out with me
when filming on location. In the studio I had access to lights
when needed which allowed me to have a high-quality, well-lit
area to film in.

5. LOGISTICAL
The locations that we filmed in did work out well for my
music video. I needed to use the studio to record some
shots. However, most of my clips were filmed on location
which didn't always work quite as well depending on the
lighting and the time of day we filmed at. It also depended on
how busy it was around, trying not to get people in shots
without their permission. We did have some problems due to
weather meaning we had to cancel some shots as we
couldn't reschedule due cast/crew personal problems which
meant they couldn't get to the location for when needed. The
final locations were in and around college, the studio, the
street where I live and Selby Superbowl and the only
controlled lighting was available from the studio, the rest was
the lighting provided.

6. PERSONNEL
I had a lost of casting issues as most of the cast that were
supposed to be dancing had let me down. However, my crew
members were always there to hep when I needed them and
didn't let me down once. They were very helpful at times
when I may have struggled, and they did a great job. Some of
my cast were also very reliable such as Zuzanna and Alexis
who were there whenever I needed them to film. I did
however have backup options for all my cast but did struggle
to find those willing back-ups at first.

7. PLANNING
I think if I had known that I was going to have to change
locations and casting so many times to the point that it
wasn't always quite the sane as my original plan, I would
have made a different plan, but I do like what I did manage to
produce and I stuck to the original plan as much as I could. It
would have worked better if I had managed to get more
footage of the same singer to use throughout rather than
different ones as it did get confusing at times, but I
didn't plan it well enough in advance to think of the more
basic things and only planned the more advanced things
ahead like the editing and how I was going to lay it all out
rather than planning who I was going to cast and managing
the visuals of what I was actually going to film for it.

8. EDITING

9. WHAT WENT WELL

1. I liked my split screen sections of the video. I felt like it
added more to the video and went well to show more
action and brought life to the video rather than just
having all one type of shot all the way through.
2. I also think the montage of the 2 bands playing at the
beginning and towards the end of the video went well and
fit well with the song and made it so that the video was in
time and gave more energy to the video.
3. The paint bucket tool also added a cool effect to the
video which looked good, and I really liked the outcome
of that clip. It added energy and made the video more
upbeat and gave it more movement so that id didn't get
boring having a plain video.

10. WHAT PROBLEMS DID

I had problems with my editing at places when I was still
learning how to edit as it stopped me from being able to do
certain things with how little time, I had to pick up those
skills so it did limit me as to how much editing I could do and
what editing I could do too and what effects I was adding. For
example, I wanted to create a strobe-coloured LED light
effect, but I didn't understand how to do it, so I had to stick to
the flashing lights at the beginning instead as I didn’t have
time to learn how to do ir properly after having to reschedule
a lot of the filming or cancel them out. Another problem I had
when editing was the split screen, but I worked around this.
As I was originaly going to have it where it stopped and
started but with lack of footage to do that, I had to just do it
so that they stopped and then the next started.

11. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project? Pick a minimum
of 5 to discuss…
I have learnt from this project a lot of new skills to edit. I learnt how to do
many effects that some I included, some I didn't. This included how to create
a split screen, adding a flashing light effect, adding transitions to the videos
and adding effects such as the paint bucket tool on the dancer to create a
more upbeat feeling and add movement to the video. I also learnt how to do
the echo effect during the dance video too. I learnt how to shorten audio and
edit it and blend it together to make it so that it sounded more antural and
like it was recorded like that. I did this to shorten the song when I still had
time left to fill but notenough footage to fill it with. To learn these things, I
either got help from a classmate, tutor or looked it up and watched and
followed a tutorial. This allowed me to learn more skills that I needed to do
my editing. I also leanr that I need to plan better in advance which was
definaltley my weakness as I rushed my planning to get out to film as quick
as I could and I didn't have enough of a plan to start my production with.
This is something I need to work on and need to think more about in
advance in the future. I also learnt to stay away from including people in
my projects as they do often disapoint and let you down when they are
needed.
