GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?

4. FILMING
11/10/20 I went and filmed with my friend most of the video.
But I did not expect his school to have a corona virus case
so he had to self isolate so I couldn’t get anymore footage for
the rest of the week luckily the footage that we got was for
the main part if the video and he is out of quarantine today so
I will be going to get more footage with him tonight.
19/10/20 Got the footage for the introduction and ending of
the music video. In the introduction the footage was in
portrait which means that the footage will need to be heavily
edited but it can be fixed easily. The ending footage

5. TECHNICAL
I did not use a camera from college because of corona virus
which will have down graded my footage quality. I brought a
portable charger with me when we went to record I also made
sure my phone was charged before in case I forgot my
portable charger. I did very simple camera shots of still shots
and moving shots I used these shots because it would match
the pace of the song.

6. LOGISTICAL
Overall the locations worked, the first location had a big
rotten tree and multiple different shots being taken. For one
verse shot the sun came out and it was in the background
and added glare so we had to wait 10 minutes for it to go
back behind the clouds. The other two locations were quite
and didn’t cause any problems for recording.

7. PERSONNEL
I had my friend Jamie being the actor in my video and we got
most of the footage on the first day of recording we got the
verses and chorus footage and we were going to get the rest
of the footage over the rest of the week but his school went
into lockdown meaning that I couldn’t meet him for a week
and I still needed to get the introduction shot and ending
shot so on the Monday I got the other footage. Jamie as an
actor wasn’t difficult but was a bit uncomfortable at first so
then I let him practiced alone and then he became
comfortable with doing the dicrections.

8. PLANNING
I think my planning worked with it giving me essentially
giving me a to do list of what shots I needed to get and it
helped me structure my recording. And it kept me grounded
to one idea.

9. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc
where possible
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment
• Pick notable moments in the editing process and discuss
them, what worked/didn’t work and why, how you adjusted
to problems. Discuss how you worked and what you
learned from the process

10. EDITING
19/10/20 I have enjoyed editing the music video I find it fun to experiment
with different styles of editing and putting different effects over the video.
I’ve only got footage for the chorus and verse but tonight I will get more. But
by not having the introduction footage and the ending footage it means that I
can concentrate more on the the verses and chorus footage.
20/10/20 I have been editing the introduction and ending of my music video
today. I have had to edit the introduction video. The ending was a lot easier
with only having to put a purple filter over the video. I have also learnt a new
skill which is to make the video look like an old vhs recording I learnt this off
of a youtube tutorial. This has made my video look a lot better and I am
happy with how it turned out.
21/10/20 I put most of the the footage in a vhs style and balanced it out so it
wasn’t too heavy for the footage and I also learnt how to give a shot a lighter
background so it could be used as an overlay over the footage I used this in
multiple shots. I also used stock footage of a dog barking as an over lay of
certain shots that weren’t as good to keep the flow of the video going. I am
very happy with the end product of my music video.

11. WHAT WENT WELL

I understand premier pro a lot more now after spending a lot
of time on premier I understand it a lot more now and have
learnt different effects and movements I can do to my
footage.
I know how to make effects out of distorting the the footage I
learnt this through the vhs effect and how you can effect
footages colour, placement and transparency.
I learnt how camera motion can really add effect to a music
video tilting the camera to keep the video engaging and
interesting.

12. WHAT PROBLEMS DID

My actor not being able to record for a week this meant I
couldn’t get all my footage at the right time and on the first
day of editing I could only edit the verse section over the
video
Balancing out levels for the vhs effect some of the levels
weren’t right for the vhs effect which would cause certain
footage problems which meant I had to balance them al out
which was very time consuming.
Premier pro crashing this almost cost me all my work but
luckily I had saved so I just made a copy of the premier pro
file.

13. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project? Pick a minimum of 5 to
discuss…
I’ve learnt how to add a vhs effect to my footage and with learning that I found out how I
can layer other footage over my original footage to make very distorted footage. An
example of footage being layered in the music video is the dog barking whilst Jamie is
doing his actions towards the camera
I’ve learnt that not everything will go according to plan with and that I should be able to
adapt like when Jamie was put into isolation so I had to make new times to meet him.
I’ve learnt how to use a camera and how different shots can effect the style of music
with the camera reacting to certain movements that Jamie would make. For example in
my music video Jamie does a punch motion towards the camera the camera reacts to
that as someone would when being punched it is also used as a transition in the verse.
I learnt that transitions don’t always need to be used and jumping from shot to shot
would work just as well with the style of video I was doing, but also slower transitions
can be used like the zoom transition which I repeatedly used in the music video.
I also learnt how to use premier by just seeing how things layer up eventually like
effects and pacing of the video this was done by just seeing what certain effects would
do and looing up youtube tutorials.
