2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this could
be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt with problems
with batteries, etc.
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down? How
did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have worked
better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you changed your
video? How/why?
*If you make any drastic changes to your video you MUST
add this to your planning documentation and state how and
why this has happened

4. FILMING –
PRODUCTION STILLS
Where appropriate add stills from when you were filming,
annotate where necessary
I was able to manage using my camera and other technical equipment on my own, I did
have a few problems with organising my camera equipment such as batteries and
finding SD cards, I fixed this problem by making sure I had charged 3 spare batteries at
least two hours before filming, I had retrieved a spare SD card from my old camera, this
SD card was 16g. my filming locations did work for my video, I did not have any
problems with the weather, it was a clear sky throughout both days of filming, the
locations were public areas so it wasn’t any struggle to access the chosen areas. We
were not worried about other members of the public being in this video because the
areas were very quiet at this time of the day. my cast and crew were really calm when
filming this video, no one was being silly or immature, I had also chosen actors I had
worked with before in past projects so I knew they were going to take it seriously and
would know how to act in front of a camera and feel comfortable. I do think my planning
helped me with my video because it allowed me to know the steps I needed to take
when it came to filming and editing. I did think the organisation of my planning could
have been better in some stages, I could have included more detail into my story boards
and shot lists. I do not need to re film or change anything in my music video, I am proud
of how the final product came out.

5. EDITING

• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc.
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment

6. EDITING –
FILE MANAGEMENT
Screenshot and annotate where you have saved your work and
how you have organised your footage so you know where it is –
this will also include your audio track for your video and any
other images, found footage, etc.
For all of my video footage I have created a folder on my desktop titled “music
video” this is where I save everything that ha to do with my music video. In this
folder I have also created 2 other folders, one called “music video footage” where
I store all of my filmed footage, and the other one called “final pieces” I made this
folder because to edit my video it required me to use 3 separate sections to save
storage, after I edited and saved my 3 sections I this folder I would then be able to
create another project and join them together. For my final video I saved it in this
folder but renamed it to “Final music video” instead of it being “music video
section 1, 2 or 3”

7. EDITING –
SETTING UP PREMIERE
Screenshot and annotate how you have set up a new
Premiere Pro project – indicate what you called it, where you
saved it
You should also show how you set up your timeline,
indicating the video settings used [e.g. DSLR 1080p 25]
On Premiere Pro I titled my project as “music video” I created
a new project by clicking “file” then selecting “new”, when
you do this it comes up with 3 options, you can either choose
to create a new “Project, “Team Project” and “Sequence” I
chose “Project”

8. EDITING –
IMPORTING FOOTAGE
Show how you imported your footage, your file set up in
Premiere and how you have organised your different docs
[video, audio, etc]
I imported my video footage by double clicking the video
library in Premiere Pro, it then opened up my finder and I
selected the music video footage folder I had saved in my
desktop, this included all of the footage I had filmed for my
music video including footage of overlays and effects. I
selected all of these files and dragged and dropped them into
my timeline.

9. EDITING –
WORKSPACE
Show and describe the Premiere Pro workspace – preview
window, bins, timeline, playback window, tool bar, audio
levels, etc.
The Premiere Pro work space includes a wide range of tools
to use, the timeline is used to place and trim your clips, the
tool bar is where you can select which option you want to
edit your video with, blade is to cut videos, trim is to get rid
of a section of your video. The audio levels in the Premiere
Pro work space lets you control the audio, you can increase
or decrease the volume, you can also add in effects to
change the way it sounds.

10. EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
Show how you put together your basic sequence in the order
you want it – previewing clips, dragging to the timeline,
trimming/cutting, etc.
If you have a lip sync, pay special attention to showing how
you synchronised the footage with the audio track
I put my basic sequence together by dragging in my clips
and trimming them to the point where it matches with the clip
before that one. Even though my main actor was wearing a
face mask and you could not see him lip syncing the song
his hand gestures matched what was being said when he
was listening to the audio when filming, I had to listen to the
audio in the camera footage to match it with the song.

11. EDITING –
REFINEMENT
Show and explain how you have refined and improved your
initial sequence edit
I have refined and improved my initial sequence edit by
cutting and trimming the clips to work with the beats in the
song, I have also added in some text to show the viewers
name of the song. I also placed in my own intro to show
people that I was the one who created this video. In my initial
sequence there is a rise of colour, at the beginning I had
saturated it down but as it kept playing I turned up the
saturation.

12. EDITING –
COLOUR CORRECTION/SFX
Show and explain your colour correction process/effects
process – use staged screenshots to show each part of the
process and the effect. Explain why you chose to do this
I did colour correction in my video by increasing the
saturation, I wanted my video to look bright and colourful, I
did create an RGB Split effect which gave my video a bright
and colourful look, I used colour grading plugins (MluT) this
is a plugin where you can purchase colour grading effects.

13. EDITING –
EXPORT
Show how you exported your completed project, show which
settings you have used and explain your choice of file name
and where you have saved it
I exported my Final Cut Pro project by firstly selecting the
File option, I then moved down to Share then to the right I
scrolled down and clicked on Apple Devices 1080p. I set the
video format to Video and Audio and the video codec to
H.264. after I had selected all my video settings I then clicked
Export and chose to save into my Music Video folder under
Final Pieces.
