3. FILMING –
Equipment-
When filming the equipment side went really well. I had to lip sync the
performance video to the song. This worked really well as I had the song on
in the background when filming and for each time I went through I filmed the
whole lip sync so I had more footage that was all in time.
When using cameras I always had spare batteries and spare SD cards so I
never had an issue when it came to these basic errors I dodged them
completely by having spares of everything
When it rained I didn’t take my tripod out so it didn’t get damaged and when
I used it I sent it up right and there was no error and I just avoided using it in
unsafe places.
When I used cameras for both the studio work and the super8 work I
formatted the cameras correctly and made sure that they gave the look I
wanted from both of them. At first the super8 footage format was hard to get
right but after playing around with it for a while I ended up being able to get
it right before the filming began.
The only real issue I had with the equipment was the use of the projector as I
formatted the file wrong and it ended up not working and not giving the look
that I wanted. However I ended up giving the same look in post production.
4. FILMING –
Logistical-
My locations worked well, I ended up taking two
spare forms in my bag just in case I ended up
needing permission to film somewhere but I
didn’t, even the shots in the Museum in
Liverpool didn’t require a form. I did a lot of the
filming in streets and asked permission from
another shop in which they didn’t mind me
filming. There was no problems with access or
not being able to get certain shots and I ended
up shooting loads of footage.
The only issue I ended up having was on the day
I had two members of the cast it ended up
heavily raining the whole day. I had big
umbrellas so that I could still film, and as it was
the hand held shots I didn’t need the tripod. The
only issue the rain caused was having moody
cast members but the footage was still really
strong and worked out.

5. FILMING –
Personnel-
My original cast ended up bailing out a week
before production started which was
originally really disastrous; however I then
ended up having a new cast. The new cast
was thrown together with people I knew with
some music talent and one person who had
never played an instrument. I initially
thought this wouldn’t work as they do not
know each other however it ended up
working really well.
The cast that I used for the other footage
other then performance were also really
good, they were easy to direct and even
despite it being really bad weather they still
managed to pull off a really good look for
the video.
Cast that let me down
Cast that didn’t let me down
6. FILMING –
Planning-
My planning process went well, I had a
clear idea from the start about what I
wanted to film, the visuals of the video
and the concept. I had more trouble
finding a song that fitted what I wanted to
do. When filming I used my shot list, story
boards and idea webs to make sure that I
could project my ideas into the
production.
I could have gone further into my planning
and documented my test runs of the super
8 footage more but I ended up not doing
this; however it could have helped in the
actual filming.
Different stages of
planning
7. FILMING –
Next steps-
I don’t need to re film any footage, I thought I needed to film
again for the band projection footage as I didn’t think I had
enough, however I ended up having loads of footage that I
could combine for the last part of the song.
I haven’t changed my video concept however I did end up
changing the final part of the song as the projector didn’t
work right and ended up getting washed out and just didn’t
focus well. However I ended up making a projection in post
production to give it the same look.
8. EDITING
Editing process-
When editing I started of by transferring all of my footage
onto the computer. I then made a edit log and went through
all of the footage by playing it back and seeing if I wanted it
to use it or not. By doing this it allowed me to be able to filter
through all of the footage and find all of the good footage
that could work within my video.
I found this way very beneficial as it allowed me to see all of
the footage in one place and allowed me to be able to look at
all of the footage and begin to piece it together and fit it to
the video. It was an efficient way to work. Edit decision log
9. EDITING –
FILE MANAGEMENT
As the programme needs to have a saved file I decided to
just save everything on my desktop in a ‘Music Vid’ file
(saved as this as I already have a ‘music video’ file)
I organized my footage within these files really basically and
managed to make the layout some what organized within the file so
that I could find all the footage really easily. I had all the different
footage in their own files and then they were in rows within the
‘Music Vid’ file.
All of the super8
style footage with
their location tags
Adobe files
Music video file
and the song
downloaded as
an MP3
Other things used in
the video like

SETTING UP PREMIERE
I opened
up premier
and then
selected
new
project
I then browsed and selected the
location of my footage and named
the premier file (Music Video)
Name of the
file
Location of
the files
I then selected the
setting. For this one
it was DSLR
1080p25
11. EDITING –
IMPORTING FOOTAGE
There was two ways that I imported my footage into Premier the
initial way I edited it:
After the initial footage when I import footage I do it this way as it is an
easier select:
File- import
Select file that it is
importing from
Select the files
that need
importing
Press
import
Files import
Find the file with
footage in
Look through footage
Then highlight and drag the
footage into the document Files import
12. EDITING –
WORKSPACE
Preview area
This is where you
can cut and edit the
footage. You can
look at your footage
and see what parts
you want to use.
This is where you
can preview clips.
Playback area
This is where you can
watch your work and
preview what you have
done already. It is the
preview zone.
Tool bar
the tool bar is
where you can
select the tools and
the editing options
for the footage.
Time line
This is where you
make the video
sequences and edit
them to a format
which I like. The time
line is where the
formatting happens
and the footage
meets the track.
Footage bins
The footage bins are where the imported footage
goes. It is so you can see the footage as files so
you can easily go through it and select the footage
13. EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
For just random footage that I had without the performance I set it up
really basically and sequenced it really easily compared to the lip
sync.
Import the files
View all the files in the
footage bin
Watch the clips and
decide which parts I
wanted to use
I then found the point
where I wanted the
video footage to start
I then found the point
where I wanted the
footage to end and
marked it out
Then
inserted the
video only
I put it onto
the
timeline
over the
audio
I did this again
and put the
sequence more
together.
I then preview
watched it to see
what I liked and
found any points that
I wanted to cut and
change
14. EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
For just the lip sync I edited the sequence a lot differently so that it would
fit together better. This was a lot harder and more complicated to do as you
really had to match the video to the son perfectly. I tried to change the
speed to make it easier but it didn’t help me so I did it differently
I put the audio track onto the
timeline
Found the video file I wanted to
use
Found the exact time in the song
where I wanted the footage
Found the exact footage in
the video that fit the song Added the footage to the track
If the
footage
didn’t fit
right then I
would find
the point
which
doesn't’t
meet
I would then cut
the footage that
didn’t meet the
song
I would then
mark out
the part of
the song
that I
needed
I would then move the
footage back up to the
marked out part so it meets
15. EDITING –
REFINEMENT
My initial sequence was just a sequence of clips on top of the
song. This was a really basic edit where everything was lip
synced and timed to the beat. The footage was edited to fit
the song.
I then edited overlays over the top of the footage and made
parts of the video (performance) black and white. By doing
this it allowed me to add dimension and form to my video
and fit it to the style that I want.
16. EDITING –
COLOUR CORRECTION/SFX
For the colour correction I didn’t need to change the colour too much as the
footage was all super8 style so the footage didn’t need to be colour corrected. I was
going to edit the saturation and warmth but after the overlays I didn’t have to. I did
have to make the performance black and white though, the reason why I did this
was because I wanted the performance to still have that indie vibe to it which would
reflect with the other footage. Half way through production I did question keeping it
in colour then later on decided against it again. The way I did this was by:
I selected the
footage that I
wanted to
edit. Then
went on
window ->
Then I went on to
video effects In
the option box
Finally I went on color correction ->
Tint which removed all the colour
from the footage. I then applied this
by copying and pasting on all of the
performance shots
17. EDITING –
EXPORT
When I had
finished I went to
file -> export and
then selected
media
A menu came up so I
changed the Format to
H.264 and then the settings
to YouTube HD 720p 25
(I did this so that it would be
the correct format for the
viewing)
I then exported it
onto my desktop
where I could
save it and
upload it to
