GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?

4. TECHNICAL
Some things that worked well was having a second battery to take more shots
when I was filming. When I was filming I made sure that when I started to film a lip
syncing shot I would start a few seconds before I wanted to have that shot so then
when it came to syncing them up I knew I had enough footage to do so and it
would all match with the audio of the song.
Some things that didn’t work so well was when I wanted to shoot a something
walking backwards the camera wasn’t stable enough to keep the shot steady so I
had to improvise as I didn’t have the necessary equipment to do that sort of shot.

5. LOGISTICAL
My original plan was to film in a city type environment however when it came to
filming the places I had planed I couldn’t film and the footage overall just didn’t
work with the song so I had to change my location to a wooded type environment
which was a big changed from what I originally planed however lucky I didn’t really
have to much of a problem changing location.
I did have one problem with my location which was that as I needed to move
around a lot to go from one side to the other it took a lot of time so then the sun
started to go down which effect how many shots I could of gotten that day.
However it made the music video better as now I can use the sunset as a shot for
the ending of the music video.

6. PERSONNEL
Lucky no one let me down while filming everyone was a big help as I had originally
planed to go to a different location and song which later I found didn’t work so I
had to find someone who was available to do a different song that was set in a
wooded type environment.

7. PLANNING
My planning defiantly help my music video however I think if I didn’t have to
change my song I could stuck to it more which would of made the outcome better.
As I changed my song I had to discard some of my planning however the research
I did on camera angles really helped me get some shots that looked good as I
knew a bit about it. Unfortunately I couldn’t use my shot list and I had to come up
with a new location which meant I had to quickly think of ideas of how I would
make this new music video.

9. WHAT WENT WELL

One thing that went well was that the colours came out nice and bright which
made the whole music video better. I wanted to go for a lighter feel to the music
video which was only possible in premiere however some shots towards the end
already had some really nice lighting.
In my music video I didn’t have that many transitions or effects which made it
simple to watch which I think for some clips was the right approach as there wasn’t
a lot of flashes in your face when you watch it so you could understand it better. A
downside to this some clips aren’t that engaging to watch.
I used a range of shots that went well together to create a dynamic feel to make it
less boring to watch.

One problem I had was that I didn’t have that many shots as I had to changed my
music video last minute therefore I didn’t have that many clips meaning some
where a bit longer then I would of liked.
Another problem was the time management as I had to change my music video I
found it hard to edit the video as I didn’t really have a visual plan or any plan on
how I would make the music video and what effects I would add into it.
At first I had a problem of syncing up the footage as I did so many takes I had to
mix and match the footage with the audio. Sometimes I didn’t match up so I added
some extra footage to make it work.

11. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project?

. I have learned that when making any projects that involve filming always get more shots then
needed in case when you come to editing you need more.
. Another thing I have learned is to really have a general idea of how you want to edit the video
and how you want the end project to look like.
. If your planning isn’t a solid plan its really hard when editing to see what effects you want and
how you want to do the transitions and the colour correcting.
. I learnt that when filming changing camera position to get different angled shots really does
help when it comes to editing it as it creates a dynamic feel and makes it more engaging then
it just being a 30 second lip sync.
. When it comes to editing try and add little effects on each clips so then when you go to watch
it its not just a boring shot is has something to it which keeps it simple but entertaining at the
same time.
