 Motivation is derived from a Latin word
“movere” which means ‘to move’ or ‘to
energize’ or ‘to activate’.
 Motivation is the process of arousing the
action, sustaining the activity in process
and regulating the pattern of activity.
 -YOUNG
 Motivation refers to the state within a
person or animal that drives behaviour
towards some goals.
 -MORGANAND KING
 Motivated employees are required.
 It helps organisation to survive.
 Motivated employees are more
productive.
 Related to satisfaction.
 The best employee motivation efforts focus
on what employees deem to be important.
 Many organizations find flexibility in job
design.
 Helps in increasing productivity and better
morale.
 Motivation includes issues of
e3motion,support,capability.
 There are a number of different views as to
what motivates workers.
 The most common theories will be discussed.
 Unfortunately these theories do not reach
the same conclusion.

▪ Assumes that workers have little ambition, dislike work,
avoid responsibilities and require close supervision.

▪ Assumes that workers can exercise self-direction, desire
responsibilities and like to work.
 Motivation is maximized by participative
decision making ,interesting jobs and good
group relation
 Monetary rewards
 Indirect financial rewards (benefits)
 Satisfying work content
 Affiliation with an admirable organization
 Long term career opportunities
 Use appropriate methods of reinforcement.
 Eliminate unnecessary threats or
punishments.
 Make certain that accomplishments are
adequately recognized.
 Provide people with flexibility and chocice.

Motivation

  • 2.  Motivation is derived from a Latin word “movere” which means ‘to move’ or ‘to energize’ or ‘to activate’.
  • 3.  Motivation is the process of arousing the action, sustaining the activity in process and regulating the pattern of activity.  -YOUNG  Motivation refers to the state within a person or animal that drives behaviour towards some goals.  -MORGANAND KING
  • 4.  Motivated employees are required.  It helps organisation to survive.  Motivated employees are more productive.  Related to satisfaction.
  • 5.  The best employee motivation efforts focus on what employees deem to be important.  Many organizations find flexibility in job design.  Helps in increasing productivity and better morale.  Motivation includes issues of e3motion,support,capability.
  • 6.  There are a number of different views as to what motivates workers.  The most common theories will be discussed.  Unfortunately these theories do not reach the same conclusion.
  • 7. Psychological needs Security needs Social needs Self actualization needs Safety needs Self esteem needs
  • 8.  -THEORY X ▪ Assumes that workers have little ambition, dislike work, avoid responsibilities and require close supervision.  -THEORYY ▪ Assumes that workers can exercise self-direction, desire responsibilities and like to work.  Motivation is maximized by participative decision making ,interesting jobs and good group relation
  • 9.  Monetary rewards  Indirect financial rewards (benefits)  Satisfying work content  Affiliation with an admirable organization  Long term career opportunities
  • 10.  Use appropriate methods of reinforcement.  Eliminate unnecessary threats or punishments.  Make certain that accomplishments are adequately recognized.  Provide people with flexibility and chocice.
