Should We Extend Equal Consideration Of Interests To Non...
Equality has been a controversial and persistent issue in America s history. From slavery to
segregation, it might seem that now that we have laws outlawing these forms of discrimination, we are
free from all forms of prejudice. While this might seem true, we are actually not. We are too quick to
overlook an issue that affects a great number of us. And by us, I mean all animals. Many humans tend
to have a feeling of superiority over other species of animals. Reasons for this might be because
humans feel as other species are not as intelligent as them or because we cannot communicate
properly to know their interests. This is not justifiable. I will argue that the we should extend equal
consideration of interests to non human animals because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also argue that humans are just superior to other animals because of our intellectual abilities so
they should not have the same considerations of interests. It might be true that most humans are
smarter than other species but that does not make it right to make other animals purposely suffer for
our own enjoyment. Stating that all humans are smarter than any animal is false. For example, Singer
quoted A chimpanzee, dog, or pig, for instance, will have a higher degree of self awareness and a
greater capacity for meaningful relations with others than a severely retarded infant or someone in a
state of advanced senility. Here, Singer provides evidence against the argument stating that animals
can be smarter than humans but that does not make it okay for an infant to be treated to the same
suffering and injustice of a non human animal. This further proves that the real reason for not
extending moral consideration to non human animals is not due to their intelligence but because of
humans believing that they are superior to other animals, which is

The Death Of The World
Ali strolled in on a colleague, likewise a decent companion that has worked with for as far back as
five years his name is Adie, his taking diazepam, a drug used in the treatment of anxiety or muscle
spasms. Adie expressed that he had forgotten to carry his own prescribed ones in a hurry to get to
work that day, and he could not skip his scheduled time to take the drug. Adie is asking Ali not to say
anything to anybody and guarantees it was just a one time thing, and it could never happen again. Ali
believes him and chooses not to educate anybody concerning what simply happened. At that point a
month later Ali see him taking another dose of diazepam, putting them in his pocket without checking
with anyone and minutes after Ali see him go into the toilet. Recollecting the occurrence that
happened the last month before, Ali went in into the toilet not long after he has gone in and a wrapping
of diazepam was found. Ali chooses not to let him know he had seen all the happenings.

Slavery and The Tropicalia Movement in Brazil
Starting in 1538, nearly four million Africans were taken from Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Congo and
Mozambique to be forced into slavery in Brazil s sugar plantations and mining industries. The slave
trade was eradicated in 1850, and by 1871 the Brazilian legislature passed the Law of the Free Womb.
This law was designed to grant freedom to slave s newborn children and served as a precursor to the
abolition of slavery in 1888. They made home for themselves in Brazil, as it had the largest amount of
African diaspora. Former slaves and their descendants established an Afro Brazilian culture and the
cultural traditions, notably musical, brought along with them inevitably mingled with those of Brazil.
They brought new rhythmic complexities and melodic patterns with them, and were recognized for
using music as way of bringing people together through communal participation. Their musical
traditions have maintained very well preserved and were legitimate contributions to Brazil s culture.
Afro Brazilian influences became fundamental components for a new generation of musicians in
Brazil, and pride in their African roots flourished for the first time.
On a typical evening in Brazil, an overabundance of vibrant rhythms and people on every corner are
embellished in eccentric fashion filled the streets. Percussion beats, bells, trumpets, whistles and other
instruments sound through the streets as people dance or play along. Music is a defining factor of
identity in Brazilian culture.

Hepataminophen Research Paper
As a widely used analgesic and antipyretic agent, acetaminophen (APAP) overdose induced
hepatotoxicity is one of the most common causes of acute liver failure in the USA and in most
Western European countries [1]. Although a number of studies have forced on the influences of N
acetyl p benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), a highly reactive metabolite of APAP that depletes hepatic
glutathione, and increases in oxidative stress during APAP toxicity [2], other mechanisms such as
immune response also raise the susceptibility in the early stages of APAP induced liver injury [3].
Accumulating evidence demonstrates a critical role of inflammatory cytokine released in early liver
damage after APAP intoxication [4, 5]. Kupffer cells (KCs), the liver resident macrophages, are major
sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus, there is an urgency to evaluate the effects of immune response on APAP toxicity using a human
KCs and hepatocyte co culture system. Since a 3D multicellular system containing hepatocytes and
other non hepatocytes can better reflect the cell cell interactions of a real situation [11], in this study,
we used the 3D liver microtissues consisting of primary human hepatocytes (PHH) and KCs (1 : 1) to
study the inflammation mediated hepatotoxicity after acetaminophen overdose.
Because large doses of LPS cause severe liver injury, whereas small doses of LPS results in the
absence of liver damage [6], there is a necessity to determine the optimal dosage of LPS. Therefore,
we first carried out a pilot dose finding study to explore the dose of LPS that can stimulate the
production of cytokines without inducing massive cell death of PHH and KCs cells. Meanwhile, we
also tested a few doses of APAP LPS co exposures to get an impression on the abilities of these
combinations to induce the cytotoxicity and cytokine

My Experience At The Niagara Falls
We had never been out of the country before, and we couldn t wait for the first time. The day I woke
up in my dad s old room at my grandparents house, I didn t wake up with the excitement I thought I
would. Instead, I lay in the bed and stared groggily at the ceiling. It was one of those days when
getting out of bed doesn t even feel like an option. I hadn t even remembered about where we were
going. The sound of water running in the bathroom across the hall carried into the room, and that s
when I noticed the strip of light peeking through the crack in the door, occasionally interrupted by
someone walking past. But it was too early in the morning for this many people to be up. At that
moment my mom opened the door and told me that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With strides long enough to make up for how slowly they stepped their huge feet onto the trail they
followed, they disappeared behind a cluster of trees and reappeared on the other side. Two white and
brown dogs came up from behind the elephants and ran into the water with small splashes and doggy
paddled to the grass on the edge of the water that sat snug against the fence. Then the elephants
stormed in. Waves of water splashed forward as they swam across the water. They filled their trunks
with water and squirted it out onto their backs. Baby elephants even ducked their heads under water!
They started to make their way towards the crowd, and whether or not we said it out loud, we were all
thinking the same thing: were the elephants going to splash up to us? They then slowed to a stop,
treading in one spot. And it was a good thing too, because if they came any closer we would have been
soaked by the mist of green and brown pond water squirting from the trunk of one of the largest
elephants!
The car drove us up to the gates, over seven feet tall, with signs that left the passangers regret their

Alzheimer s A Type Of Dementia
Introduction:
Alzheimer s is a type of dementia that causes complications with memory, thinking, and behavior.
Long before any signs of memory loss, there a microscopic changes occurring in the brain, altering its
functionality (Alzheimer s Association Organization, 2016). The brain has billions of nerve cells that
work together, and when one portion of the brains neurons are malfunctioning it leads to breakdowns
in other parts of the brain. The two most noted abnormal structures that are suspected to damage and
kill neurons in the brain in patients with Alzheimer s are plaques and tangles. Plaques are deposits of a
proteins fragment called beta amyloid that build up in the spaces between nerve cells; and tangles are
twisted fibers of another protein called tau that build up inside cells (Alzheimer s Association
Organization, 2016).
There are many different types of dementia, but Alzheimer s is the most common, accounting for 60
80% of dementia cases in America (Alzheimer s Association Organization, 2016). There are three
types of Alzheimer s, Early onset Alzheimer s, when people younger than 65 years old are diagnosed
with the disease, typically around their 40 s or 50 s and is very rare, less than 10% of all people with
Alzheimer s have early onset; Late onset Alzheimer s which is what most people are familiar with, and
is when someone is diagnosed with the disease after the age of 65; and lastly, Familial Alzheimer s
disease which is a form that doctors know for

Glenn Close Essay
It is really surprising that these talented actors/actresses have yet to win an Academy Award (also
referred to as an Oscar). I honestly hope Glenn Close wins an Oscar before it s too late, otherwise the
legendary actress will have to settle for the Academy Honorary Award. The award recognizes
exceptional people in film who never received an Oscar.
Number One: Tom Cruise. The actor has been nominated for three Academy Awards, but he has yet to
win the award. Cruise has been nominated twice for Best Actor for Born on the Fourth of July (1990)
and Jerry Maguire (1997). In the year 2000, he was up for the Best Supporting Actor award for his
work in Magnolia.
Number Two: Robert Downey Jr. Even with his extensive film career, Downey Jr. only has two Oscar
nominations. Those two nominations include Best Actor for Chaplin in 1993 and Best ... Show more

(1988), Dangerous Liaisons (1989), and Albert Nobbs (2012).
Number Four: Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor has been nominated for five Academy Awards. He was
nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in What s Eating Gilbert Grape (1994). DiCaprio
has been up for three Best Actor awards for The Aviator (2005), Blood Diamond (2007), and The Wolf

the nomination for producing the film.
Number Five: Sigourney Weaver. Weaver hadn t received an Academy Award nomination since the

My Field Placement Is At A Public School Essay
My field placement is at a public school in an urban setting right outside of Philadelphia. The student
body is just shy of 300 students, largely compromised of minority students. Furthermore, almost one
third of the student body is visually impaired. I work in a mixed classroom of second and third graders
all of whom have varying degrees of visual impairments. When I started there were nine students, but
one student recently joined our class, so the class has grown to ten students. Two of these students
have visual impairments severe enough that they must use braille to read and a braille typewriter to
write. There is one head teacher in the classroom as well as an assistant teacher who helps out every
day, so when I am present there is a ratio of three adults to ten students. The classroom itself is divided
into several different sections each with specific purposes. On one side of the room, there are ten
desks in two rows of four and one row of two which face a blackboard. The blackboard is always
covered with the morning message, which the students are meant to copy down in their notebooks, as
well as various other posters and drawings. Currently there is a large scale drawing of the cover of
Charlotte s Web covering part of the board as this book is currently being read to the class. Each
student is permanently assigned to a desk and there are name tags to ensure that the students know
which desk is theirs. There are also sets of cubbies affixed to each desk where

where the artifact stands in Greek culture and history. Through the examination and research of figural

His four legs stand more relaxed than those of the centaur to his right, who lunges forward towards a
human enemy. This centaur differs from the first in that he faces away from the viewer; his bare back
is exposed, and in his right hand he grasps the front of the spear. However, his left arm is open,
exposing the palm of his left hand. The third centaur is bearded and is shown in profile. Facing the
humans to his left, he stands on his hind legs, recoils in defense, and holds his spear behind his head
with both hands. His left hand grasps the front of the spear, and his right hand grasps the back of the
spear. To his right there is a small insect like figure, with two sets of wing pairs protruding from its
upper section and legs jutting from its lower section.
Of the human figures, the first is male and faces the two centaurs to the left of the viewer. Also
lunging forward, he plants his front foot as the heel of his back foot rises. His hair is shorter than that
of the centaurs, and he holds the Boeotian variation of the hoplite shield that covers his mouth and
chin. This shield is decorated with the outline of a turtle. The restored condition of the body leaves his
clothing, or lack thereof, indistinguishable. It is also hard to discern whether he or the character to his
right is holding a sword, which is short and points downward. The next figure, also human, lunges in
the opposite direction. He is bearded and mustached, and lion skin is draped around

Kim V. Searle
Much like the course any sporting event is bounded by the rules of the game, the course of any
philosophical discussion is bounded by the ideas accepted as axioms. A game of soccer in which the
players were permitted to hold the ball in their hands would be radically different, even incomparable
to a traditional game, even if all other factors (weather, location, player s skill) were physically
identical. In much the same way, although both begin with the same set of facts (materially closed
universe, constant physical laws) Jaegwon Kim s view on mental causation is radically different from
Searle s, because they approach the issue from different philosophical perspectives. Neither is wrong,
if you reason using their principles. Neither is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their dissension stems not from one being fundamentally right or wrong, but from different
assumptions. Kim accuses Searle of Causal Over Determination. He sees Searle as claiming that not
only does m(F) cause m(G), but also that F causes G in an equally real way. Since m(G) is the true
cause of G, the F to G causation must be illusory. Searle could likewise accuse Kim of Causal Over
Distinction, arguing that m(F) is indistinguishable from F, and in that both together as one cause
[m(G)+G].
In addition, Searle would say that Kim is making a fundamental mistake in thinking of mental states
as being caused by physical states (related temporally), rather than existing simultaneously. This limits
Kim s thinking, as two events related causally in this way cannot by definition be the same event.
Searle suggests that we include a sort of permanent causation, by which molecular structures doesn t
cause hardness, but rather is hardness.
There is, as Searle rightly points out however, a ragged hole in Kim s conclusion. Kim asserts, as if to
appease us, that mental states are both epiphenomenal and causal. By describing mental states as
superveniently causal, i.e. appearing to be causal based on the true causality of their microproperties,
he has satisfied Hume s requirements for causation, i.e. that causation itself is

The most infamous vampire in history emerged from the streets of Ireland in 1897. The publication of
Dracula set the modern vampire into motion. Vampire legends themselves have stretched back for
centuries, but it was this one novel that paved the road for others to follow. When thinking of Dracula,
it can be easy to think of the blood sucking creature who travels from Transylvania. Not often does
history recognize the inspiration for the character known as Count Dracula. The legend begins in
Romania in 1431 with the birth of Vlad III Dracul, or Vlad, Son of The Dragon. This was the man that

Jane Eyre And Jean Antyse Analysis
The critical responses provided in the Penguin Books edition of Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys,
states: the only difference between [Jane and Antoinette] is their positons, one is on the edge of the
empire, the other at its center (162). The unnamed author of the response undermines the importance
of this difference and fails to see how it affects the how each of the characters are represented. The
lack of acknowledgement the position from which Jane narrates, the centre characterised by Walker

Jane narrates throughout Jane Eyre. Antoinette shares narration with her husband, the implied Mr
Rochester and Grace Poole. Jane s prolonged mastery of her narrative when considered in tandem
with the partial control afforded to Antoinette exemplifies the amount of voice afforded each of them

It is our responsibility to study the effects of our technologies to prevent any detrimental unanticipated

Information became context

The Year Of Wonders By Geraldine Brooks
Oppression is defined as, the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner
(dictionary.com), and is found all around the world. There is essentially two parts to oppression: the
oppressor, who is demonstrating his power by displaying cruelty towards the second part of
oppression, the oppressed. The oppressed take part in offenses made by the oppressor, that usually
contain a cruel, and unfair burden towards them. The world has demonstrated this profound
relationship since human history first began, not only in their way of life, but in literature. For
example, Geraldine Brooks, displays the oppressors, in her novel The Year of Wonders, by implicating

Panem is significantly lacking fellowship and liberation while under the oppressive rule of the Capitol.
People are suffering and working endlessly each and every day inside the districts, while everybody in
the Capitol is living a superb and wealthy life. In order for this to change, Panem needs to reflect on
these views, and change their way of life. In the novel, Peeta says, Only I keep wishing I could think
of a way to... to show the Capitol they don t own me. That I m more than just a piece in their games
(Collins 142). He has already reflected the lack of liberation in Panem, and is now trying to envision a
way to fix it. This needs to be the mentality of everybody in Panem. Cutting out oppression, and
increasing fellowship, liberation, and solidarity, will disembody the life they are living now, and
produce an improved way of life for everybody in Panem. In his novel, Pedagogy of the Oppressed,
Paulo Freire also says, It is only when the oppressed find the oppressor out and become involved in
the organized struggle for liberation that they begin to believe in themselves. This discovery cannot be
purely intellectual but must involve action (Freire). The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is

The Fifteenth Amendment And Women s Suffrage Movement
Introduction The Women s Suffrage Movement was a political struggle, in which women protested
and assembled to vote and run for office. The idea that women could not vote, run for office, be
represented in the workplace, nor serve on juries contradicted early ideas that the American woman
was a protector of the concepts of freedom and righteousness. The American suffrage movement
originated from the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 (history.com). At this convention, women
alongside a few men worked to write the Declaration of Sentiments, which would start the initial idea
to fight for the rights of women and provide a list of grievances in reference to the rights of women
such as: voting rights, property rights, and educational rights (Snider 2016). However, women would
not receive suffrage until the post Civil War era. Several leaders as well as movements would have to
amalgamate over the course of several decades for the voice of women to be heard and changes to be
made in accordance to law and society. The Fifteenth Amendment and Women s Rights The concept
of women s suffrage was first questioned under the clauses of the Fifteenth Amendment. Under this
amelioration, the denial of suffrage by the states to any citizen on account of race, color, or previous
condition of servitude was prohibited. However, radical Republicans did not want to handle the plank
of women s suffrage as it was feared that the goal of black enfranchisement would be delayed, as the

The Spread of Western Imperialism
In 1853, Western imperialism was at its height. It was spreading to several countries. The British
colonized India, the Dutch colonized Indonesia, the United States colonized the Philippines, and the
French colonized Vietnam. In 1929, the crash of the stock market brought a worldwide depression,
known as the Great Depression. The depression caused instability in many countries. International
commerce declined and tax revenues, profits, and personal income decreased. The Great Depression
especially impacted countries that were in need of raw materials. Between the time of 1853 to 1941,
Japan s culture and political structure changed anticipating westernization because they wanted to be
seen as equals to the Western countries. Japan also became more militaristic so that they would not be
seen as a victim of imperialism. Although Japan experienced some changes, Japan continued the
ideology of kokutai as a method for imperial advancement.
Japan s cultural and political structure changed from being a weak isolated nation to a modern
imperialist country. Before Japan westernized, it was under the rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate. This
was an agricultural economy with a population of 13 billion. Japan did not associate with any other
country because they believed foreign influence was a destabilizing factor. This resulted in
overcrowded farms and scarce minerals. In 1853, Commodore Perry came to Japan with big black
ships. The technological advancements of the ships shocked the

Reflective Essay On Sonography
On Friday October 20th, I went to CDI south to shadow a sonographer. During this time, I got to sit
closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more
about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I
was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this
shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the
room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving
towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound
machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the
patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient,
and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and
ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first
patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her
ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s
ovaries and bladder within the ultrasound. The sonographer will be looking to make sure there isn t
anything unusual within the ultrasound, and make sure the systems are operating properly. We did

Research Paper On Wakesurfing
If you have a cabin or live on a lake, you most likely own a boat and enjoy fishing or watersports.
Watersports have been getting more and more popular with many different things to do behind a boat.
One of these popular water sports is wakesurfing. Wakesufing has become the fastest growing
watersport today.
There are many things to consider before you actually go out and wakesurf. First of all you need the
correct boat. You are gonna need an inboard boat to be able to wakesurf. An inboard boat has the
propeller tucked under the boat and is not visible. Never wakesurf behind an outboard or
outboard/inboard boat. These type of boats have the propeller behind the boat. This is really dangerous
because you could fall and get injured by the propeller.

Getting up is the easiest part of wakesurfing. It may seem difficult and very frustrating at first but once
you get the hang of things it will seem so easy. One thing about wakesurfing is that you can t give up.
Just like anything else you have to practice to get better. To get up on a wakesurf board you will need
to lay in the water with the board flat on the water. The nose of the board should be perpendicular to
you and the boat. You want to lay on your back and put the heels of your feet on the wakesurf board
with your toes pointed up. One heel goes on the very back of the board and the other goes in the
middle. Your legs should be shoulder width apart. Hold the handle of the rope and make sure the rope
is in between your legs. When you are situated, tell the boat driver to go. Once the rope tightens, keep
your arms straight and put some weight on your heels. This will flip the board up on your feet. You
also need to keep your knees up to your chest. This will help you pop up on the board. If you do all
this correctly the board should be on plane and you should be able to stand up. Once you are up you
should get the feel of the board by turning and digging into the

The Original Ending Of Black Like Me By John Howard Griffin
In the original ending of Black Like Me, John Howard Griffin reveals that he has conducted an
experiment where he changed the color of his skin to see how African Americans lived in the deep
South. After news reports got the news of the actions of John Howard Griffin, racists started to
threaten his life. That is when he decided to go to Mexico, until the story died down. When he came
back to his home, he hired a Negro Youth (Griffin 163) to clean up his parents home. This is when he
reveals why racism existed. In the book, there are many pieces of evidence, which supports this type
of ending. One piece of evidence can be seen as right after John broke the news about his experiment
of acting like a black man to see what went on in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of John and his whole family going to Mexico, I decided that John stays home and reveals to
the public what is happening and the causes for racism. I said this because of John s knowledge of the
black people s lives after his experiment. My first piece of evidence can be seen when John finds a
place to sleep, after being stranded in a place called Mobile. John Howard Griffin states, This was the
dark tangent in every man s belly [...] the lust to cause pain or fear through self power (Griffin 105).
The quote supports my ending because it shows Griffin s new understanding of why the white race
mistreats the black communities. That will allow John to convince people to stop being racist, and
instead to start loving one another. Another piece of evidence is when John wakes up from a long
night, after finding a place to stay in a Negro s household. He says, Recent scientific studies show that
the contemporary middle class Negro has the same family cult, the same ideals and goals as his white
counterpart. This supports my ending because it allows John to show racists that the only difference
between whites and blacks are their skin color. The last piece of evidence can be seen after John stops
taking his medication and starts to look like his old self again. He asks himself, Was it worth trying to
show the one race what went on behind the mask of the other? (Griffin 126) This supports my ending
because it shows that John contemplates on whether he should talk to his fellow whites about what he
saw when he was a black

Introduction
Renaissance is a French term meaning rebirth or revival. Renaissance period in the history of Europe
starts from the beginning of 15th century to the end of 16th century. The Renaissance manifested the
transitional phase from the medieval ages to the modern era. It was a time of social and cultural
changes in Europe. It is believed to be the beginning of the modern world and hence the new phase of
the political system arrived. Along with society and culture, politics also changed.
Renaissance and Politics
Renaissance states had three basic forms of Government: princedoms, monarchies and oligarchies or
the republics.

During the period of renaissance, both these political institutions have developed from the medieval
roots, but both failed to get transformed completely into a modern system. Regardless of the fact that
Church and state had mutually strong ties with each other, but popes and rulers struggled with each
other for being in command of the administration of church and material lands. Therefore, some
historians portrayed this period as a significant one for politics while some think this age as
meaningless and abandoning the whole concept.
Also, during the renaissance stage, kings, dukes, earls and other nobles dominated the political field
but as the feudal system began to collapse; these titles stared losing their influence. This shaped the
beginning of varying unbalanced surroundings which promoted rapid development in all areas. This
stage was subjugated by confrontations and wars not for the sake of winning territories but for the
sake of protests, to satisfy the upper class thirst for war. The downfall of the Roman Empire and the
influence and authority of the papacy was consequential with the increase in independence and self
reliance of city states in most of the Europe.
For monarchies and oligarchies, the revival transformations in the fashions of art, over and above the
attitude of artists, required affluent clientele to maintain and endorse it, and Italy was in

The Ismaili Da ø Wa
Historical sources indicate that the embryo of came to be termed as the Ismaili daʿwa began to take
shape during the imamate of al Ṣādiq. Imam Jaʿfar al Ṣādiq (114 48/733 65), as well as the succeeding
Ismaili imams, lived in a very difficult time. The ʿAbbāsid caliph al Dawānīqī and his successors were
very hostile towards al Ṣādiq and his household. After the death of al Ṣādiq, the Ismaili imams lived in
hiding. Among them, the life of Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl remains very obscure. Certain early sources,
which were written by the anti Ismaili polemicists, confuse the identity of Muḥammad with a certain
non ʿAlid by the name of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maymūn al Qaddāḥ, a follower of al Khaṭṭāb who is believed

Ibn Nadīm views Abū Muslim s inclination towards al Ṣādiq s household as a primary reason why al
Dawānīqī killed him (ibn Nadim, 2002:352). It is very likely that Abū Muslim had developed a
sympathetic view towards al Ṣādiq and his Shīʿa partisans for at least two reasons. First, al Ṣādiq was
known and respected not only as a direct descendant of the Prophet Muḥammad through the Ḥusaīnid
lineage, but he was also known as a most respected scholar of his time. He formed an active circle of
thinkers and talented disciples around himself. His loyal Shīʿa scholars not only argued for upholding
the Ḥusaīnid line of imamate (Daftary, 2007:84) as the true Shīʿa imams. Secondly, al Dawānīqī
actively persecuted Shīʿa groups, including members of al Ṣādiq s household. This policy clearly went
against the perception and expectation of Abū Muslim Khurāsānī and other Khurasanian leaders, who
raised the ʿAbbāsid flag in the name of the Prophet s Household and the Shīʿa partisans. Undoubtedly,
the term Shīʿa at this phase of history had broadly referred to the household of the Prophet and
included both the house of ʿAbbās as well as imams from the Ḥusaīnid lineage. Therefore, al Dawānīq
s anti Shīʿa policy certainly went against the expectation of Abū Muslim, who might have developed
an inclination towards al Ṣādiq. However, historical records also demonstrate that the early ʿAbbāsid

the MC is Grandmaster Caz, Ice T, and Big Daddy Kane. During Grandmaster Caz s interview, he
explains how he started out as an MC, taking his parents old funk and soul records and rapping over
the beats. He believes the most important part of rap is the lyrics, explaining his technique of trying to
go beyond what the next MC is going to do. Throughout the film, Ice T adds in his own commentary
about the MC and being one himself has important points about the role of the MC. Ice T stresses the
MC has a gift of communication and states the MC, Gets everybody s attention with displays of verbal

God s Sovereignty Of Eternal Life
There are many great points that Moyer brings out as to how we should evangelize. He is clear on
many aspects of the Gospel, such as using 1 Corinthians 15 to explain what the Gospel is. He also
deals with sin, saving faith, assurance, good works, evangelism in the New Testament, the best way to
evangelize, prayer, boldness in evangelism and our duty as believers to evangelize. For the most part it
is great stuff.
There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. In an
overarching way, Moyer gives a sense that man accepts a gift in trusting Christ rather than God
choosing man to receive the gift of eternal life by trusting Christ. It may seem like splitting hairs to
some, but what is called into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him
through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into a
right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without Christ
we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel clearer
instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that God is here
for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can serve Him is if
we are in right relationship with Him.
Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind and not
a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to change
your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save you. [2]
Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an unbeliever A
comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize for not using
the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. [3]
Moyer does not believe that salvation in any way requires surrendering to Christ. God does not say to
a lost person, You must give me control of your life or I will not save you. He is asking,

Essay on The History of Hitler and the Nazi Regime
The History of Hitler and the Nazi Regime
In the Second World War, a man named Adolph Hitler, the leader of the infamous Nazi regime, had a
plethora of things on his mind. From guarding the stricken land of Poland against Soviet advancement,
to making sure the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean in France were closely guarded, Hitler had
much to worry about. Unfortunately, it was during Hitler s reign when a most horrible atrocity took
place.
Adolph Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in a small hamlet named Braunau Am Inn, just across the
border from German Bavaria. Hitler s childhood was often riddled with abuse and physical beatings.
His family lived in a small farmhouse with 10 other people. Because of this, Adolph s older ... Show

In 1920, Hitler modified a common ancient symbol to form the swastika, or twisted cross, as a symbol
for his party. He then changed the name of the party to the National Socialist German Worker s Party,
or, in the shortened German form, the NAZI party (Keegan 65).
By 1921, the Nazi party had over 3000 members, mostly drawing in large numbers of ultra
conservatives from Munich. In late 1921, Hitler traveled to Berlin to try and find more members for
his party, but quickly returned, for the members of his party had signed a coup, which attempted to try
and overthrow Hitler. Offended, Hitler resigned his position, only to be asked to join again two weeks
later. He knew the party was nothing without him (Gilber 54).
Between 1921 and 1923, Germany had collapsed into financial ruin. Germany was presented with a 33
billion dollar bill, as reparations as a result of World War I. Inflation hit the roof, and the economy was
finished. It took 4 billion marks to buy a loaf of bread. Life savings were completely wiped out. As a
result, riots broke out. These riots incited extremist political groups into action, quickly bringing
Germany to the brink of chaos.
In 1923, the Nazi s had a party population of 55,000 members, far more than any extremist group
vying for power. Hitler, knowing this, devised a plan, in which the Nazi s would kidnap the leaders of
the Bavarian government, and hold them at gunpoint until they accepted Hitler as their leader. The

General Circulation
Warm air rises and cool air sinks, or subsides. If the Earth had no continents and did not turn, then the
circulation of the atmosphere would appear much like this.

heated by the warm Earth and so rise, flow toward the poles where it is cooled by the cold Earth,

But the Earth does have continents and it does spin on its axis, so the General Circulation of the

An act is acted upon through lack of knowledge known as ignorance when the performer is unaware
of the consequences of the specific condition. Performing in the course of unawareness must be
separated from performing in ignorance. One may be performing ignorance through drunkenness or
moral depravity, which is an act of moral corruption that ends up being extremely worse. Voluntary
acts are acts that are the opposite of involuntary acts. A voluntary act involves choice that human
beings are only capable of. The choice that one makes is different from rage or desire. Such actions,
then, are mixed, but are more like voluntary actions; for they are worthy of choice at the time when
they are done, and the end of an action is relative to the occasion (Book III). True choice requires
rational consideration, an ability unique to human beings, which also means that the human being

Interpersonal Conflict Resolution And Mediation
Interpersonal Conflict Resolution and Mediation
Conflict is a problematic situation that occurs between interdependent people who seek different goals
or means to those goals. Conflict is inevitable as relationships become closer, more personal, and more
interdependent, more conflicts occur, perceived trivial or minor complaints become more significant,
and feelings become more intense. Conflict has many definitions (opposing viewpoints, when
opponents engage in battle, going against one another in some fashion, incompatibility between the
objectives of two or more characters or forces) and approaches (avoiding, accommodating, competing,
collaborating, compromising). Interpersonal conflict is the disagreement between two people in
respect to values and attitudes that leads to resentment. Definitions tend to imply that conflict is not a
beneficial behavior in which to engage. However, proactively addressing conflict via mediation has
been known to restore peace, enhance relationships, and bring cohesiveness to an otherwise divided
team. In the study of conflict, one soon realizes that the workplace is often the perfect setting for
conflict to occur. According to Wilmot and Hocker (2001), when assessing even a seemingly small
interpersonal conflict, one can benefit from a careful and objective assessment. In many situations
involving conflict, one party often has a significant amount of power over the other, resulting in an
advantageous situation for the stronger party. This

expenditure of beauty and health products. The panelists, from the U.S., ranged in age from Under 18
to 55 and Over. Although responses varied slightly by question, age break down of respondents was
roughly as follows: 1% under 18; 20% aged 18 29; 28% aged 30 39; 44% aged 40 54; and 11% aged
55+.
AS Watson, the world s largest health and beauty retailer, the opening of its 500th Watsons store in

Analysis Of Column 7L
During the initial site walk, cracking was observed on the north corbel of column 7B, as labeled on the
2014 structural drawings for the site. During the renovations in 2014, steel columns were added in the
vicinity of the B line of columns in this area of the structure. Given that these new columns may have
been added to take additional stresses caused by the renovations and/or additions, observation of the
deteriorated conditions of this corbel warranted additional investigation of other corbels in the area.
This was not part of the original scope of work, but TKW has observed and reported on the condition
of some of these corbels as a courtesy to the client.
The first corbels inspected were at column 7B. Both the north and south ... Show more content on

From this position, the northern corbel at column 5B appears to have similar conditions compared to
column 6B. A significant portion of the corbel has fallen off and is lying on top of the CMU wall in
that area (Figure 26). The bearing conditions look similar to column 6B, but exact measurements were
not possible. The condition of the beam bearing on the corbel was not visible, but padding for bearing
can be seen in the location.
At column 4B, the northern corbel has cracked significantly at one corner of the corbel (Figure 27).
The cracked portion is hanging from the corbel by a small section of concrete at the top of the corbel.
Due to spatial constraints, measurements could not be made, but the section of concrete hanging from
the corbel appears to be about ½in thick. Small pieces of concrete were found on the ground in this
area, suggesting that the corbel is slowly deteriorating. Bearing pads appear to be in use on the
southern corbel only, which shows no signs of deterioration.
The northern corbel at column 3B is beginning to crack along one of its corners (Figure 28). Spatial
constraints did not permit actual measurements, but the crack appears to be 0.012in 0.025in wide. Due
to the presence of drywall in the area, it is difficult to gauge the depth of the crack as the attached
drywall could be helping to holding the concrete in place. The southern corbel does not exhibit any
signs of deterioration. Bearing pads appear to be utilized on both corbels.

Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding
Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture
came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of
the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the
dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was
home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts,
artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as The
mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new
and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each one helped to expand growth for the extreme sport already growing in popularity.
First off, the accident of architecture was inevitable. As years went on, the minds and creativity of
skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second
point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s
occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than
just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their
innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005).
The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of
skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of
innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games
kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding
market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with
the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk s Pro

Appeal Of Atonement
Ian McEwan s novel Atonement has won several awards including: the National Book Critics Circle
Award for Fiction, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction, and the New York Times 10 Best
Books of the Year. This is most likely due to the masterful way McEwan used point of view and the
universal appeal the novel holds. Atonement has three parts. The first part introduces Briony Tallis, a
thirteen year old girl with an immature imagination. Briony misinterprets several events between her
older sister Cecilia and the Tallis charwoman s son Robbie Turner. Briony thinks he is attacking her
when they actually love each other. One thing leads to another and Briony finds the perfect
opportunity to get rid of Robbie by accusing him of raping her cousin Lola. Robbie is then sent to
prison. The second part starts with.... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering from guilt, Briony hopes nursing will act as penance for her sin. Briony is also still writing
and submits a story to a London journal which is rejected, but in the rejection she is encouraged to
develop the story further. When the soldiers return from Dunkirk, Briony is disappointed with her
failure to perform her duty. At the end of part three, Briony seeks out her sister. Before she does, she
attends the wedding of Paul Marshall and Lola. Briony does nothing to stop the marriage. When she
visits her sister, it is discovered that Robbie is still alive and living with Cecilia. This makes Briony
happy and she asks Cecilia what she can do to make it better. Robbie and Cecilia tell Briony what to
do in order to clear Robbie s name. Briony agrees to do what they told her and heads back to work in
London. The last we see of Robbie and Cecilia is when they are at the tube station

Final Project Lady Macbeth
Macbeth Final Project Living in a world where even nature is at war with itself is challenging, and
only the bravest, good hearted people will emerge triumphant. The play Macbeth is a tragedy written
by William Shakespeare and takes place in eleventh century Scotland. Featuring a plot full of twists
and turns engages readers throughout the play. Even when the main character, Macbeth, is enticed to
commit a treacherous deed which causes a chain of murders and deceptions eventually leading to
Macbeth s unsightly demise, suspense is not lost. It is a masterpiece giving insight into human nature
and temptation, proving that only the characters who remain true to themselves will escape unscathed
from this backward place; because, in a world where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After receiving a prophecy from the witches the he will be king, Macbeth is excited to share the news
with his beloved wife. Both of them, alone, started plotting King Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth
seems better prepared to wear this mask, and hide her true intents than Macbeth does. Since Macbeth
is seemingly incapable of facing Duncan without their plan written across his face, Lady Macbeth
encourages him to Look like th innocent flower, but be the serpent under t (I, v, 56). It is almost as if
Shakespeare wanted Macbeth to be portrayed as an actor, having to put on this mask, and deliver a
convincing performance of trust and loyalty. This is evident because even though Macbeth openly
expresses his distaste in Duncan s murder when he tells Lady Macbeth We will proceed no further in
this business (I, vii, 32) he still ends up killing Duncan. Wearing this mask has taken its toll on
Macbeth. His mind and body were opposed to the deed; which is shown to the readers when Macbeth
sees a floating dagger. Perhaps hinting that his sanity is not intact. However, after it is done, Macbeth
changes and starts molding himself to fit the mask he wears, accepting murder, and moving forward
with his life. Masking intentions does not have to be for evil means. Malcolm masks himself in order
to test Macduff, and by doing this he gains a friend and ally, rather than a crown and subjects. So
while masking one s intentions can yield bountiful rewards, it can also pull them towards the path of
evil, for there is no yellow brick road to get lost on in this world of

Short-Term Memory Experience
The class was asked to do experiments on five different people who I know. We were asked to test
their short term memory. I thought it would be easy for my subjects to remember just 10 words. I
wanted to see if age or education can change their short term memory outcome. On TV, there is a
reality game show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader , well my son is in the fifth grade. We sat at the
kitchen table, I read aloud the words that were on the high value list. Then I asked him to write the
words that he could remember me saying. Then an hour later, I did the next set of 10 words from the
medium value list, then the low value list of words an hour or so after. With my husband, I did the
same thing has I did with my son. We sat at the table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I asked a friend of mine that has a master s in education and is a principal of a middle school if she
could help with this experiment. I wanted to see if having a lot of education would be different than
not having it. We couldn t get together in person, but we did do it over Skype. I wanted to make sure
that I could watch her and see how she reacted on the 3 sets of words. The first and second set of
words we did within an hour and ½ of each other. The last set of words we couldn t do till the
following day. With my mom, we had to spread it out within two days. She came to my house on the
first day and I read the first and second set of words within 45 minutes of each other. The last set of
words, I went to her house thinking that maybe being at a different place more comfortable for her,
would change the outcome. The last person I tested is a very close friend of mine. I invited him over
for dinner without him knowing that he was a guinea pig in my experiment. I asked him to remember
the first set of words and to write down all the words that he could remember before dinner. Then I
read aloud the second set of words after dinner. Thinking that maybe having a full belly would change
the way your mind works. Then we

Female Athlete Injuries
Since the media does not emphasize the severity of female athlete injuries when the player
experiences them, the athlete needs to learn post treatments to help speed up the recovery time.
Learning treatments for the injuries that a female athlete incurs may also help prevent any future
injuries. Thomas says, plyometric exercises, proprioception, agility, overall biomechanics corrective
exercises (Thomas). When a female is injured while playing a sport, they should go through rigorous
exercises to recover properly from the injury and to prevent any further injuries. The coaches that
coach the female athletes should be informed of how to help the athlete recover from the injury and
learn ways to guide the other players on the team how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author of 4 Amazing Stretches for Injury Prevention Caitlyn Carlson says, The therapist uses their
body as leverage to create traction and gently moves your limbs in a wave like motion (Carlson). The
physical therapist will focus on treating and strengthening the injured area or muscle while trying to
prevent the injury from getting worse. The massage therapist will massage and relax the injured area
to help the body to not feel the pain of the injury as bad as the initial pain was. After females
encounter an injury, a helpful way to treat it is to go to a therapist and get them to stretch out any stiff
muscles that can cause many further injuries. Females need to work on their muscles and get them
stretched when injured. Getting a plan from the therapist to do this at home can also help prevent any
future injuries.
One of the main issues that female athletes run into is that the media tends to focus on the male
injuries and the severity of their injuries and completely overlook the females injuries. Male athletes
may look like they play sports that are tougher than females do, for example football, but the way
female bodies are made they are more prone to get injured in their athletic endeavors. Schmerling
emphasizes this issue in The Gender Gap in Sports Injuries, saying, you might think that sports
injuries are more common among male than female athletes. That may be true for college and NFL
football players, since nearly all are male.

Snow White And The Huntsman
The movie Snow White and the Huntsman was released in 2012 and directed by Rupert Sanders. The
film is a new look into an old and beloved classic fairy tale: Snow White. Snow White, played by
Kristen Stewart is the film main protagonist. Her dark villain is the evil Queen, Ravenna, portrayed by
Charlize Theron. In this version of the tale, Snow White has escaped from the Queen all on her own
and is desperate to get to Duke Hammond, the last hope for her country. Snow White has traveled
across her country with the Huntsman at her side, played by Chris Hemsworth. The Huntsman has
been sent to find and return Snow White alive, rather than be told to kill her. He is betrayed by the

Through the use of cinema, lighting, costumes and make up, as well as scripting, the filmmakers stake
their point on this intense twist of events. Motionless and cold, Snow White is thought dead. The
Prince s kiss does not wake her and her she does not wake on their way to the Duke Hammond s
castle. She lies in a funeral Chamber within the Duke s castle, now dressed in white and cleaned of her
travel grime. Visiting her at her funeral bed, the Huntsman is distraught by his inability to keep her
safe from harm. Having spent the night drinking, he is still dressed in his travel clothes, intent on
leaving once the night is over. He now speaks to her resting form, telling her the story of his passed
wife, a story he had refused to tell the princess previously. He compares Snow White to his wife,
saying how they were alike in spirit and continues with how they both brought him from a version of
himself he hated most. He circles around her as he speaks to her, explaining how his wife had been
taken while he had been away. He continues as it becomes hardly for him to talk, his voice is
trembling and growing thick with emotion. The Huntsman feels that both his wife and the princess
deserved better than him, he apologizes to her form and closes the monologue with a kiss. Snow
White remains unmoving, even as he leaves the chamber with soft steps. It s just as he finally
disappears from the scene that tears fall down her face,

  • 2. Should We Extend Equal Consideration Of Interests To Non... Equality has been a controversial and persistent issue in America s history. From slavery to segregation, it might seem that now that we have laws outlawing these forms of discrimination, we are free from all forms of prejudice. While this might seem true, we are actually not. We are too quick to overlook an issue that affects a great number of us. And by us, I mean all animals. Many humans tend to have a feeling of superiority over other species of animals. Reasons for this might be because humans feel as other species are not as intelligent as them or because we cannot communicate properly to know their interests. This is not justifiable. I will argue that the we should extend equal consideration of interests to non human animals because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also argue that humans are just superior to other animals because of our intellectual abilities so they should not have the same considerations of interests. It might be true that most humans are smarter than other species but that does not make it right to make other animals purposely suffer for our own enjoyment. Stating that all humans are smarter than any animal is false. For example, Singer quoted A chimpanzee, dog, or pig, for instance, will have a higher degree of self awareness and a greater capacity for meaningful relations with others than a severely retarded infant or someone in a state of advanced senility. Here, Singer provides evidence against the argument stating that animals can be smarter than humans but that does not make it okay for an infant to be treated to the same suffering and injustice of a non human animal. This further proves that the real reason for not extending moral consideration to non human animals is not due to their intelligence but because of humans believing that they are superior to other animals, which is ... The Death Of The World Ali strolled in on a colleague, likewise a decent companion that has worked with for as far back as five years his name is Adie, his taking diazepam, a drug used in the treatment of anxiety or muscle spasms. Adie expressed that he had forgotten to carry his own prescribed ones in a hurry to get to work that day, and he could not skip his scheduled time to take the drug. Adie is asking Ali not to say anything to anybody and guarantees it was just a one time thing, and it could never happen again. Ali believes him and chooses not to educate anybody concerning what simply happened. At that point a month later Ali see him taking another dose of diazepam, putting them in his pocket without checking with anyone and minutes after Ali see him go into the toilet. Recollecting the occurrence that happened the last month before, Ali went in into the toilet not long after he has gone in and a wrapping of diazepam was found. • 4. Slavery and The Tropicalia Movement in Brazil Starting in 1538, nearly four million Africans were taken from Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Congo and Mozambique to be forced into slavery in Brazil s sugar plantations and mining industries. The slave trade was eradicated in 1850, and by 1871 the Brazilian legislature passed the Law of the Free Womb. This law was designed to grant freedom to slave s newborn children and served as a precursor to the abolition of slavery in 1888. They made home for themselves in Brazil, as it had the largest amount of African diaspora. Former slaves and their descendants established an Afro Brazilian culture and the cultural traditions, notably musical, brought along with them inevitably mingled with those of Brazil. They brought new rhythmic complexities and melodic patterns with them, and were recognized for using music as way of bringing people together through communal participation. Their musical traditions have maintained very well preserved and were legitimate contributions to Brazil s culture. Afro Brazilian influences became fundamental components for a new generation of musicians in Brazil, and pride in their African roots flourished for the first time. On a typical evening in Brazil, an overabundance of vibrant rhythms and people on every corner are embellished in eccentric fashion filled the streets. Percussion beats, bells, trumpets, whistles and other instruments sound through the streets as people dance or play along. Music is a defining factor of identity in Brazilian culture. ... • 5. Hepataminophen Research Paper As a widely used analgesic and antipyretic agent, acetaminophen (APAP) overdose induced hepatotoxicity is one of the most common causes of acute liver failure in the USA and in most Western European countries [1]. Although a number of studies have forced on the influences of N acetyl p benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), a highly reactive metabolite of APAP that depletes hepatic glutathione, and increases in oxidative stress during APAP toxicity [2], other mechanisms such as immune response also raise the susceptibility in the early stages of APAP induced liver injury [3]. Accumulating evidence demonstrates a critical role of inflammatory cytokine released in early liver damage after APAP intoxication [4, 5]. Kupffer cells (KCs), the liver resident macrophages, are major sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, there is an urgency to evaluate the effects of immune response on APAP toxicity using a human KCs and hepatocyte co culture system. Since a 3D multicellular system containing hepatocytes and other non hepatocytes can better reflect the cell cell interactions of a real situation [11], in this study, we used the 3D liver microtissues consisting of primary human hepatocytes (PHH) and KCs (1 : 1) to study the inflammation mediated hepatotoxicity after acetaminophen overdose. Because large doses of LPS cause severe liver injury, whereas small doses of LPS results in the absence of liver damage [6], there is a necessity to determine the optimal dosage of LPS. Therefore, we first carried out a pilot dose finding study to explore the dose of LPS that can stimulate the production of cytokines without inducing massive cell death of PHH and KCs cells. Meanwhile, we also tested a few doses of APAP LPS co exposures to get an impression on the abilities of these combinations to induce the cytotoxicity and cytokine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was one of those days when getting out of bed doesn t even feel like an option. I hadn t even remembered about where we were going. The sound of water running in the bathroom across the hall carried into the room, and that s when I noticed the strip of light peeking through the crack in the door, occasionally interrupted by someone walking past. Then the elephants stormed in. Waves of water splashed forward as they swam across the water. They filled their trunks with water and squirted it out onto their backs. Baby elephants even ducked their heads under water! They started to make their way towards the crowd, and whether or not we said it out loud, we were all thinking the same thing: were the elephants going to splash up to us? • 8. Alzheimer s A Type Of Dementia Introduction: Alzheimer s is a type of dementia that causes complications with memory, thinking, and behavior. Long before any signs of memory loss, there a microscopic changes occurring in the brain, altering its functionality (Alzheimer s Association Organization, 2016). The brain has billions of nerve cells that work together, and when one portion of the brains neurons are malfunctioning it leads to breakdowns in other parts of the brain. The two most noted abnormal structures that are suspected to damage and kill neurons in the brain in patients with Alzheimer s are plaques and tangles. Plaques are deposits of a proteins fragment called beta amyloid that build up in the spaces between nerve cells; and tangles are twisted fibers of another protein called tau that build up inside cells (Alzheimer s Association Organization, 2016). There are many different types of dementia, but Alzheimer s is the most common, accounting for 60 80% of dementia cases in America (Alzheimer s Association Organization, 2016). There are three types of Alzheimer s, Early onset Alzheimer s, when people younger than 65 years old are diagnosed with the disease, typically around their 40 s or 50 s and is very rare, less than 10% of all people with Alzheimer s have early onset; Late onset Alzheimer s which is what most people are familiar with, and is when someone is diagnosed with the disease after the age of 65; and lastly, Familial Alzheimer s disease which is a form that doctors know for ... The student body is just shy of 300 students, largely compromised of minority students. Furthermore, almost one third of the student body is visually impaired. I work in a mixed classroom of second and third graders all of whom have varying degrees of visual impairments. When I started there were nine students, but one student recently joined our class, so the class has grown to ten students. Two of these students have visual impairments severe enough that they must use braille to read and a braille typewriter to write. There is one head teacher in the classroom as well as an assistant teacher who helps out every day, so when I am present there is a ratio of three adults to ten students. The classroom itself is divided into several different sections each with specific purposes. On one side of the room, there are ten desks in two rows of four and one row of two which face a blackboard. The blackboard is always covered with the morning message, which the students are meant to copy down in their notebooks, as well as various other posters and drawings. Currently there is a large scale drawing of the cover of Charlotte s Web covering part of the board as this book is currently being read to the class. A game of soccer in which the players were permitted to hold the ball in their hands would be radically different, even incomparable to a traditional game, even if all other factors (weather, location, player s skill) were physically identical. In much the same way, although both begin with the same set of facts (materially closed universe, constant physical laws) Jaegwon Kim s view on mental causation is radically different from Searle s, because they approach the issue from different philosophical perspectives. Their dissension stems not from one being fundamentally right or wrong, but from different assumptions. Kim accuses Searle of Causal Over Determination. He sees Searle as claiming that not only does m(F) cause m(G), but also that F causes G in an equally real way. Since m(G) is the true cause of G, the F to G causation must be illusory. Searle could likewise accuse Kim of Causal Over Distinction, arguing that m(F) is indistinguishable from F, and in that both together as one cause [m(G)+G]. In addition, Searle would say that Kim is making a fundamental mistake in thinking of mental states as being caused by physical states (related temporally), rather than existing simultaneously. This limits Kim s thinking, as two events related causally in this way cannot by definition be the same event. Searle suggests that we include a sort of permanent causation, by which molecular structures doesn t cause hardness, but rather is hardness. There is, as Searle rightly points out however, a ragged hole in Kim s conclusion. Kim asserts, as if to appease us, that mental states are both epiphenomenal and causal. By describing mental states as superveniently causal, i.e. appearing to be causal based on the true causality of their microproperties, he has satisfied Hume s requirements for causation, i.e. that causation itself is ... Cutting out oppression, and increasing fellowship, liberation, and solidarity, will disembody the life they are living now, and produce an improved way of life for everybody in Panem. In his novel, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire also says, It is only when the oppressed find the oppressor out and become involved in the organized struggle for liberation that they begin to believe in themselves. This discovery cannot be purely intellectual but must involve action (Freire). The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is linked to this quote. • 21. The Fifteenth Amendment And Women s Suffrage Movement Introduction The Women s Suffrage Movement was a political struggle, in which women protested and assembled to vote and run for office. The idea that women could not vote, run for office, be represented in the workplace, nor serve on juries contradicted early ideas that the American woman was a protector of the concepts of freedom and righteousness. The American suffrage movement originated from the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 (history.com). At this convention, women alongside a few men worked to write the Declaration of Sentiments, which would start the initial idea to fight for the rights of women and provide a list of grievances in reference to the rights of women such as: voting rights, property rights, and educational rights (Snider 2016). However, women would not receive suffrage until the post Civil War era. Several leaders as well as movements would have to amalgamate over the course of several decades for the voice of women to be heard and changes to be made in accordance to law and society. The Fifteenth Amendment and Women s Rights The concept of women s suffrage was first questioned under the clauses of the Fifteenth Amendment. Under this amelioration, the denial of suffrage by the states to any citizen on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude was prohibited. However, radical Republicans did not want to handle the plank of women s suffrage as it was feared that the goal of black enfranchisement would be delayed, as the amendment ... The British colonized India, the Dutch colonized Indonesia, the United States colonized the Philippines, and the French colonized Vietnam. In 1929, the crash of the stock market brought a worldwide depression, known as the Great Depression. The depression caused instability in many countries. International commerce declined and tax revenues, profits, and personal income decreased. The Great Depression especially impacted countries that were in need of raw materials. Between the time of 1853 to 1941, Japan s culture and political structure changed anticipating westernization because they wanted to be seen as equals to the Western countries. Japan also became more militaristic so that they would not be seen as a victim of imperialism. Although Japan experienced some changes, Japan continued the ideology of kokutai as a method for imperial advancement. Japan s cultural and political structure changed from being a weak isolated nation to a modern imperialist country. Before Japan westernized, it was under the rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate. This was an agricultural economy with a population of 13 billion. Japan did not associate with any other country because they believed foreign influence was a destabilizing factor. This resulted in overcrowded farms and scarce minerals. In 1853, Commodore Perry came to Japan with big black ships. The technological advancements of the ships shocked the ... During this time, I got to sit closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient, and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s ovaries and bladder within the ultrasound. Wakesufing has become the fastest growing watersport today. There are many things to consider before you actually go out and wakesurf. First of all you need the correct boat. To get up on a wakesurf board you will need to lay in the water with the board flat on the water. The nose of the board should be perpendicular to you and the boat. You want to lay on your back and put the heels of your feet on the wakesurf board with your toes pointed up. One heel goes on the very back of the board and the other goes in the middle. Your legs should be shoulder width apart. Hold the handle of the rope and make sure the rope is in between your legs. When you are situated, tell the boat driver to go. Once the rope tightens, keep your arms straight and put some weight on your heels. This will flip the board up on your feet. You also need to keep your knees up to your chest. The Original Ending Of Black Like Me By John Howard Griffin In the original ending of Black Like Me, John Howard Griffin reveals that he has conducted an experiment where he changed the color of his skin to see how African Americans lived in the deep South. After news reports got the news of the actions of John Howard Griffin, racists started to threaten his life. That is when he decided to go to Mexico, until the story died down. When he came back to his home, he hired a Negro Youth (Griffin 163) to clean up his parents home. This is when he reveals why racism existed. Instead of John and his whole family going to Mexico, I decided that John stays home and reveals to the public what is happening and the causes for racism. I said this because of John s knowledge of the black people s lives after his experiment. My first piece of evidence can be seen when John finds a place to sleep, after being stranded in a place called Mobile. John Howard Griffin states, This was the dark tangent in every man s belly [...] the lust to cause pain or fear through self power (Griffin 105). The quote supports my ending because it shows Griffin s new understanding of why the white race mistreats the black communities. That will allow John to convince people to stop being racist, and instead to start loving one another. Another piece of evidence is when John wakes up from a long night, after finding a place to stay in a Negro s household. He says, Recent scientific studies show that the contemporary middle class Negro has the same family cult, the same ideals and goals as his white counterpart. This supports my ending because it allows John to show racists that the only difference between whites and blacks are their skin color. The last piece of evidence can be seen after John stops taking his medication and starts to look like his old self again. He asks himself, Was it worth trying to show the one race what went on behind the mask of the other? It is very likely that Abū Muslim had developed a sympathetic view towards al Ṣādiq and his Shīʿa partisans for at least two reasons. First, al Ṣādiq was known and respected not only as a direct descendant of the Prophet Muḥammad through the Ḥusaīnid lineage, but he was also known as a most respected scholar of his time. He formed an active circle of thinkers and talented disciples around himself. His loyal Shīʿa scholars not only argued for upholding the Ḥusaīnid line of imamate (Daftary, 2007:84) as the true Shīʿa imams. Secondly, al Dawānīqī actively persecuted Shīʿa groups, including members of al Ṣādiq s household. This policy clearly went against the perception and expectation of Abū Muslim Khurāsānī and other Khurasanian leaders, who raised the ʿAbbāsid flag in the name of the Prophet s Household and the Shīʿa partisans. Undoubtedly, the term Shīʿa at this phase of history had broadly referred to the household of the Prophet and included both the house of ʿAbbās as well as imams from the Ḥusaīnid lineage. By 1921, the Nazi party had over 3000 members, mostly drawing in large numbers of ultra conservatives from Munich. In late 1921, Hitler traveled to Berlin to try and find more members for his party, but quickly returned, for the members of his party had signed a coup, which attempted to try and overthrow Hitler. Offended, Hitler resigned his position, only to be asked to join again two weeks later. He knew the party was nothing without him (Gilber 54). Interpersonal Conflict Resolution And Mediation Interpersonal Conflict Resolution and Mediation Conflict is a problematic situation that occurs between interdependent people who seek different goals or means to those goals. Conflict is inevitable as relationships become closer, more personal, and more interdependent, more conflicts occur, perceived trivial or minor complaints become more significant, and feelings become more intense. Conflict has many definitions (opposing viewpoints, when opponents engage in battle, going against one another in some fashion, incompatibility between the objectives of two or more characters or forces) and approaches (avoiding, accommodating, competing, collaborating, compromising). Interpersonal conflict is the disagreement between two people in respect to values and attitudes that leads to resentment. Definitions tend to imply that conflict is not a beneficial behavior in which to engage. However, proactively addressing conflict via mediation has been known to restore peace, enhance relationships, and bring cohesiveness to an otherwise divided team. In the study of conflict, one soon realizes that the workplace is often the perfect setting for conflict to occur. Market Size and Beauty Health Service MARKET SIZE OF BEAUTY AND HEALTHCARE SERVICES Market size of beauty and healthcare industry means the total dollar amount of potential sales to all customers within this industry. The number of buyers and sellers in this particular market is especially important for companies that wish to launch a new product or service, since small markets are less likely to be able to support a high volume of goods. We all want to have long and healthy lives, but we also want to look the best we possibly can while living those lives; and it cannot be denied that commercial products costs big bucks. Towards this end, companies have developed thousands of natural health and beauty products, in addition to the ones already on the market. In an online survey of 4,000 consumers, 63% said they had done internet research for health and beauty products. (Prospectiv, 2007) Over 7,000 female panelists were surveyed by MR Pro about expenditure of beauty and health products. The panelists, from the U.S., ranged in age from Under 18 to 55 and Over. • 41. Analysis Of Column 7L During the initial site walk, cracking was observed on the north corbel of column 7B, as labeled on the 2014 structural drawings for the site. During the renovations in 2014, steel columns were added in the vicinity of the B line of columns in this area of the structure. Given that these new columns may have been added to take additional stresses caused by the renovations and/or additions, observation of the deteriorated conditions of this corbel warranted additional investigation of other corbels in the area. This was not part of the original scope of work, but TKW has observed and reported on the condition of some of these corbels as a courtesy to the client. The first corbels inspected were at column 7B. Both the north and south ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this position, the northern corbel at column 5B appears to have similar conditions compared to column 6B. A significant portion of the corbel has fallen off and is lying on top of the CMU wall in that area (Figure 26). The bearing conditions look similar to column 6B, but exact measurements were not possible. The condition of the beam bearing on the corbel was not visible, but padding for bearing can be seen in the location. At column 4B, the northern corbel has cracked significantly at one corner of the corbel (Figure 27). The cracked portion is hanging from the corbel by a small section of concrete at the top of the corbel. Due to spatial constraints, measurements could not be made, but the section of concrete hanging from the corbel appears to be about ½in thick. Small pieces of concrete were found on the ground in this area, suggesting that the corbel is slowly deteriorating. Bearing pads appear to be in use on the southern corbel only, which shows no signs of deterioration. The northern corbel at column 3B is beginning to crack along one of its corners (Figure 28). Spatial constraints did not permit actual measurements, but the crack appears to be 0.012in 0.025in wide. Due to the presence of drywall in the area, it is difficult to gauge the depth of the crack as the attached drywall could be helping to holding the concrete in place. The southern corbel does not exhibit any signs of deterioration. Bearing pads appear to be utilized on both corbels. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as The mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... As years went on, the minds and creativity of skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005). The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk s Pro ... The play Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare and takes place in eleventh century Scotland. Featuring a plot full of twists and turns engages readers throughout the play. Even when the main character, Macbeth, is enticed to commit a treacherous deed which causes a chain of murders and deceptions eventually leading to Macbeth s unsightly demise, suspense is not lost. It is a masterpiece giving insight into human nature and temptation, proving that only the characters who remain true to themselves will escape unscathed from this backward place; because, in a world where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After receiving a prophecy from the witches the he will be king, Macbeth is excited to share the news with his beloved wife. Both of them, alone, started plotting King Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth seems better prepared to wear this mask, and hide her true intents than Macbeth does. Since Macbeth is seemingly incapable of facing Duncan without their plan written across his face, Lady Macbeth encourages him to Look like th innocent flower, but be the serpent under t (I, v, 56). It is almost as if Shakespeare wanted Macbeth to be portrayed as an actor, having to put on this mask, and deliver a convincing performance of trust and loyalty. This is evident because even though Macbeth openly expresses his distaste in Duncan s murder when he tells Lady Macbeth We will proceed no further in this business (I, vii, 32) he still ends up killing Duncan. Wearing this mask has taken its toll on Macbeth. His mind and body were opposed to the deed; which is shown to the readers when Macbeth sees a floating dagger. Perhaps hinting that his sanity is not intact. However, after it is done, Macbeth changes and starts molding himself to fit the mask he wears, accepting murder, and moving forward with his life. Masking intentions does not have to be for evil means. Malcolm masks himself in order to test Macduff, and by doing this he gains a friend and ally, rather than a crown and subjects. So while masking one s intentions can yield bountiful rewards, it can also pull them towards the path of evil, for there is no yellow brick road to get lost on in this world of ... I thought it would be easy for my subjects to remember just 10 words. I wanted to see if age or education can change their short term memory outcome. On TV, there is a reality game show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader , well my son is in the fifth grade. We sat at the kitchen table, I read aloud the words that were on the high value list. Then I asked him to write the words that he could remember me saying. The massage therapist will massage and relax the injured area to help the body to not feel the pain of the injury as bad as the initial pain was. After females encounter an injury, a helpful way to treat it is to go to a therapist and get them to stretch out any stiff muscles that can cause many further injuries. Females need to work on their muscles and get them stretched when injured. Getting a plan from the therapist to do this at home can also help prevent any future injuries. One of the main issues that female athletes run into is that the media tends to focus on the male injuries and the severity of their injuries and completely overlook the females injuries. Male athletes may look like they play sports that are tougher than females do, for example football, but the way female bodies are made they are more prone to get injured in their athletic endeavors. Schmerling emphasizes this issue in The Gender Gap in Sports Injuries, saying, you might think that sports injuries are more common among male than female athletes. That may be true for college and NFL football players, since nearly all are male. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
