occurred in and what kind of lifestyle both parties are living in. There is also action and movement in
the image and what could possibly be the century it was painted in. In contrast, Mademoiselle de
Clermont shows the viewers that the artist is more focused on the subject because she is looking
directly at the artist. There is also no sense of communication between the servants in the image with

During the Boston Marathon, there is a section for photographers to take shots of the athletes. It just
so happened that this was where Jock Semple tried to throw Katherine out of the race. Unluckily for
him however, Katherine s boyfriend at the time, Tom Miller, an All American footballer, was running
the marathon with her and tackled Jock. If she had not made the decision to date Tom Miller, she most

Homer and Atwood showcase the multifaceted nature of the myth of the Sirens through various
perspectives, with varying tones, and utilizing imagery. Homer recounts the narrative of a man

alluring men to her island to trap them.
Although the tones differentiate from each other within the two passages, both utilize cleverness with

certainly less sensual. The phrases bird suit and squatting nearly provide the picture of an absurd
environment; meanwhile feathery maniacs and fatal and valuable radiate a graver tone. The imagery
along with the tone influences the reader to understand and feel sympathy for this poor Siren, for she

The teacher I interviewed for this project was a fifth grade teacher, Mr. Keith Wolkovitz. This teacher
has been teaching at East Rock Community Magnet School for his entire career of eleven years. East
Rock Community Magnet School is a Title I school in the New Haven School District. The school has
a very diverse population and over 90% of the students qualify for the free reduced lunch program. As
a Title I school, the school is also mandated by the state to implement certain remedial interventions to
improve students academic scores.
Analysis
During our interview, Mr. Wolkovitz described most of the at risk students at East Rock Community
Magnet School as a student who is struggling in one or more aspect of learning . This response is
seemingly broad, however, I believe that he would define an at risk student as being someone that is
academically behind the other students in at least one content area: mathematics, reading, writing,
science or social studies. Mr. Wolkovitz also suggested that the students receiving special education
services are also included in his definition of an at risk student. This response seems quite appropriate
considering the grade level of students that Mr. Wolkovitz works with. Students do start showing some
signs of being at risk in elementary school; however, most of the early warning signs are centered on
their academic performance. Younger students are not as likely to be truant, engaged in risky or
criminal behavior, or have family

want. There are restrictions we should consider as we pursue happiness because we can t be going
around breaking the law or hurting people. I also think that we should allow ourselves to experience
more than just happiness, for example, anger, grief, fear, love and so on.

Family and Systemic Therapies
The emergence of family and systemic therapies in the latter part of the 20th century saw something of
a paradigm shift in the world of psychotherapy and counseling. Those in the field during the 1960 s
and 1970 s were predominantly occupied with psychodynamic, behavioural and humanistic
approaches (Corey, 2009). Theories attached to these forms of therapy emphasized the autonomy of
the individual, and the capacity to engage in free, independent choice. In therapeutic settings, much of
the discussion would also typically be focused on cause and effect , in other words; seeking an
explanation for why a person was thinking, feeling or behaving in a particular manner. Less attention
would be focused on the context of the individuals experience, and the matter of how a situation came
to be as it is (Bowen, 1972).
This idea however is central to what would later become the practice of family and systemic therapies.
Family therapy advocates using practices that specifically address historical, contextual and
constitutional factors, including working with all members of the extended family and wider social
network as well as coaching people to manage their constraints within their unit (Carr, 2012).
Systemic therapy has its roots in family systems theory, which was pioneered by Murray Bowen, an
American psychiatrist who originally practiced within the psychoanalytic model, but later shifted his
focus to the role of family dynamics and dimensions of the family as a system during

Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many
events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love,
the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot
that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus

Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by
all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with
Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple
life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co
worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for
people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married
and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely
had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young
children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This
was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet.
Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every
opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a
child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know
he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on
