The United States Armed Forces Rotary Wing Aircraft
The UH 60 Black Hawk has been in service for the better part of three decades. The Army has
invested into a new program called Future Vertical Lift (FVL). This program will develop a
replacement for the United States Armed Forces rotary wing aircraft that include the UH 60 Black
Hawk, AH 64 Apache, and CH 47 Chinook. The aim of the program is to develop an airframe that will
combine several roles into one aircraft, effectively cutting down costs for the military. Many different
design concepts are in in development. Companies such as Sikorsky, Boeing, Bell, and Lockheed
Martin are all building rotorcraft flight demonstrators for 2017. The Army hopes to retire their aging
aircraft with an airframe that can encompass all aspects of heavy lift, utility, and attack into one
common design at a much more affordable price. The new helicopter should be faster, more agile, and
carry more troops and cargo father than ever before (Mizokami, 2016). The Vietnam War, the first
airmobile war spawned the combat helicopter. The Bell UH 1 Iroquois or simply known as the Huey
provided that air mobility. Primarily designed as a medical platform it did not possess all the
requirements that fulfill all the United States Army s requirements. The military had a need for an
improved and more capable aircraft to fill the shoes of the Huey. In 1972, the Army issued a tinder for
a new front line helicopter. It needed to be able to carry 11 combat troops plus 4 crewmembers and

I M Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing Analysis
In I m Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing, by John T. Edge provides details of having to eat
something he normally would not think about eating. In the first part of the story, Edge tells of how he
came to hear about a pork product called pickled pig lips . Edge describes in detail about meeting the
owner of Farm Fresh Food Supplier and listening to the owner Lionel Dufour, give a history about
how he came to making a business of packaging pickled pig lips. Lips are all meat, Lionel told me
earlier in day. No gristle, no bone, no nothing. Their bar food hot and vinegary, great with beer. Used
to be the lips ended up in sausages, headcheese, and those sorts of things. A lot of them still do.
Dufour tries to explain to Edge what lips are used for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the first attempt to start a meat business failed, Dufour s dad started buying pig lips from
another supplier. There was such a high demand for cooked pig lips that they family had to start
cooking their own. Pretty soon, we were selling so many lips that we had to almost bed Di Salvo s for
product. That s when we started cooking up our own. (82) Proceeding onto the second part of his
story, Edge describes how he had to muster up courage to actually try the famous pickled lips.
Meanwhile back at Jesse s Place I finish my third Bud, order my fourth. Now, I tell myself, my
courage bolstered by booze, I m ready to eat a lip. (83) Edge tries to get himself together by taking a
suggestion from a local and eating the lip with chips. I pull from the bag a coral crescent of meat now
crusted with blond bits of chips. When I chomp down, the soft flesh dissolves between my teeth. It
tastes like a flaccid crackling, unmistakably porcine, and not altogether bad. The chips help, providing
texture where there was

Clement Hurd Research Paper
The Life of Clement Hurd: How it Produced Effective Children s Book Illustrations
Children s books go far deeper than surface value. The books that are successful and considered
classics have careful thought put into them. A lot of the powerful value of these books lie in what
reaches children the easiest the illustrations. Clement Hurd was the illustrator of many noteworthy
children s publications. To best understand his success, one must know about his relation to and
understanding of his youthful audience, the people that he worked with and was influenced by, and the
time period in which he was creating and being influenced by. These various aspects of his life created

Following the First World War, much of society rejected the ideas of machinery and war, as were often
suggested in futuristic, avant garde art up until then. Artists such as Leger worked with this situation
by embracing classicism and realistic, figurative works. This approach worked, and their art was
successful amongst society. Léger and his colleagues rejoiced in the new publicity of the postwar
years and the energy of mass media (O Donovan, 2013). Hurd took this European art movement and
used it in his illustration of the book Runaway Bunny . The pictures in this book are done in a realistic
manner, with smoothly blended colors and no cartoon like outlines. Part of this art movement included
frontal compositions and strong contours, which are also seen in this series of illustration. In the style
of return to order art, animals live in unity in a landscape that flows easily to the viewer. Gradually,
the ideas of classical and modern combined. In the art world, organic and abstract, irregular shapes
began to have increasing importance and illustrators such as Hurd adapted to this as well. Goodnight
Moon , written five years after Runaway Bunny , and My World , written seven years after, have very
different styles and adapt to the more abstract forms that the art world responded to. In these works,
the reader observes flat shapes that stand in stark

The Story Of A Short Story
Kagome looks around noticing the sun has begun to set behind the trees sighing not really wanting to
return to the group just yet.
Sesshomaru watches her closely Start a fire I will catch you food. I will take you back in the tomorrow
morning if that is what you wish.
Kagome smiles brightly Thank you she leans in wrapping her arms around his chest squeezing tightly
to him as he puts a hand on her head patting it.
After a few moments they depart and she goes to begin the fire while he goes to look for fish to give
to her to eat.
Sesshomaru comes back with two fish just as she gets the fire started he descales them for her then
place them on sticks setting them over the fire to cook.
After a few minutes the fish are done and Kagome eats them after she was done she yawns lightly
laying near the fire to keep warm as it gets colder she soon falls asleep.
A few seconds go by and Sesshomaru takes his haori off laying it on her as she shivers Kagome then
turns on her back whimpering in her sleep.
~Dream~
Kagome watches helplessly on the sidelines as Sesshomaru and Inuyasha clashes against each other
the half demon is pissed that Sesshomaru is taking Kagome.
Kagome turns her direction to Kikyo to make sure she wasn t gonna play dirty to help the Inuyasha it
was between the brothers not them she looks away to go back to the fight.
All of a sudden she hears the familiar sound of an arrow being notched she quickly whips her head to

Sodium Research Paper
Sodium has a soft sort of silvery outer layer. Once sodium is cut the surface of the sodium will then air
out into a dull kind of oxide coating. Sodium is a very reactive chemical element that is found in the
planet s crust. 2.6% of the earth s crust is sodium, and the reason that we can t find any sort or sodium
on the ground is because sodium is reactive to any sort of the earth s moisture can and will have a
chemical reaction with the piece of sodium and will explode. Although that sodium is one of the sixth
most abundant materials we have to dig into the earth to get a hold of the chemical product called
sodium. The chemical symbol of sodium is Na and this symbole Na used to represent sodium and

will then start to sizzle and pop like a cap gun when it is ignited. But when you put a piece of sodium
in water it will then sizzle and catch fire and explode. Once the piece of sodium is in the water the
sodium will explode with a great fiery sort of sparky firework like explosion, but that is mainly for the
smaller pieces. With the bigger piece of sodium it will have a more intense explosion sending water
everywhere. If you put a piece of sodium in ethanal the sodium will then have a very very slow
reaction but eventually the sodium will float to the top of whatever container you have it in. Now if
you put a piece of sodium in glycerol the sodium will have a chemical reaction with the glycerol and
then lights up and catches fire and creates hydrogen and sodium glycerin, and sodium glycerin has a
brown almost popcorn kernel sort of look. Also if you put sodium in 30% acetic acid the sodium will
have a chemical reaction making the sodium light up for a split second and then have the same
reaction as water. Sodium is a very dense metal and can be

Compare And Contrast The Liberal And Conservative Views On...
My philosophical viewpoint on the political parties can closely relate to both Liberal, and
Conservative. I will explain why I compare myself to both parties, and explain my views on
controversial topics. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of conservative,
Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick with tradition
attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and most importantly
gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the shootings going on. Liberals
protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms because of all the shootings going
on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility should be able to own a gun and protect
himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. If we as a whole make owning a gun illegal, not
only will it start a big outrage across the country and probably cause more destruction and death, but
also it will also not help. For example drugs, they are illegal but anyone can get it, and guns are much

to it, this is where a lot of the conflict starts because some people think that it is unconstitutional.
Another big topic would be free health care, my personal opinion about this is as said, the price of
health care should go down for families who can t afford it but I think we should at least keep the
price slightly the same for capable families that way we can at least pay for the technology to keep our
medical field moving on and pay the doctors for their delicate work in the field, without doctors we

The Melting Pot Of America
The melting pot of America is a concept of social and racial acceptance, where individuals from across
the globe can be transparently acknowledged, without being judged by their ethnicity or race. A
thought doesn t specifically reflect reality all the time, as the melting pot has never been broadly
acknowledged in America at any point in our nation s history. With the pandemic of violence growing
and tensions rising between races, with groups like Black Lives Matter, and Antifa, contrasts between
racial groups run widespread with hate against one another for the color of their skin. However, Texas
State University student Rudy Martinez, wrote an article in the university s newspaper about how to
end these tensions. Martinez affirms that all these racial tensions come from a social construct made
by white people called, whiteness , which assimilates and separates all races from whites. Throughout
the article, he explains that the separation caused by whiteness kept all other races down, while whites
remained oblivious to the advantages their skin brings them. But despite having an interesting
concept, there are many weaknesses in Martinez s argument because he constantly contradicts himself.
He tells readers that we should hate the concept of whiteness instead, and not white people just
because they were born, but instead contradicts this with his main headline being, Your DNA is an
abomination (Martinez), which counters his own argument because he hates on white

expensive for many people with serious ailments. Public hospitals became the best place to receive the
best treatment with public hospitals setting up wards for public patients that couldn t pay and private

contribution schemes in the 1930 s
In 1928, a compulsory health insurance scheme was suggested and turned down because the friendlies
society thought it compromised their business model. It was then reintroduced in 1938 and this time
opposed by the medical profession as they questioned the range of services covered.
In 1944 a Pharmaceuticals Scheme was implemented but was challenged by the Victorian government

an infringement on a practitioner s right to prescribe medication new PBS commenced but was not

The Cost Of Goods Sold For Medtronic
Ratios If an investor is curious about how much of the market share a specific company possesses,
they have to add up the total sales revenue for the particular market and divide the specific company s
revenue by the total revenue for the industry to decipher their market share. For example, Johnson
Johnson possesses $27.43 billion in total revenue; GE Healthcare generated $18.29 billion in revenue,
Siemens Healthcare earned $17.54 billion, Medtronic made $16.20 billion in total revenue, and Baxter
International gained $14.20 billion in revenue. The total revenue for the top 5 medical device

Interest Group Politics and Collective Action
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender advocacy group in
the nation. With over 400,000 members, the group is able to lobby very effectively in Washington and
has an impressive legislative record. The HRC began in 1980 as a fund to raise money for gay
supportive congressional candidates. It was meant to be a response to the successful right wing groups
at the time, including the National Conservative Political Action Committee and Moral Majority. By
1984, the Human Rights Campaign Fund was effectively supporting congressional candidates, raising
over 475,000 dollars. By 1990, the HRC had a membership of 25 thousand, and was organizing ...

The HRC, however, retains a high degree of legitimacy and effectiveness in the political world mainly
because rights advocacy positions have a high salience in the American political system. The group s
small, personalized constituency may even help in its efforts to mobilize effectively, but that will be
discussed in the next section. When examining the dynamics of any interest group, one benefits from
keeping in mind Mancur Olson s Logic of Collective Action. Each and every group of people must
deal with the problem of collective action, the problem of discovering how to get each individual to
act and contribute towards furthering a common interest. As I said before, the Human Rights
Campaign may benefit from having a smaller, more personalized base of members. The gay
community is extremely cohesive, especially when compared to other social and even ethnic groups.
In many cities, gays reside, work, and socialize within a very tight sphere. This general characteristic
of the gay community aids the HRC in combating the collective action problem since it makes the
membership small and easier to break into even smaller parts. Larger, more loosely bound groups have
a difficult time organizing because members perceive lower social benefits and greater probability that
others in the group will do the work for them (Olson). The HRC will still have to deal with this free

Analysis Of George Washington Carver s The Golden Door...
George Washington Carver once said Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.
Freedom can be defined in various ways by different people. To many immigrants, America is often
seen as that opportunity of freedom, the freedom to learn, the freedom to love, and even just the
freedom to exist. In this paper, I will put into words the story behind a second generation female
immigrant s experiences. By using various articles and notes given in class, I will talk about her and
her family s assimilation process and how their freedom involves the power of education. I
interviewed a second generation individual for this paper. I shall call her Margo, for the sake of
confidentiality purposes. She is currently a high school student. Margo was born in America to two
immigrant parents, making her a second generation immigrant (Feliciano Lec 01/04/16). Both of
Margo s parents migrated from Sri Lanka, a small country located by the tip of India. Margo s parents
came to America to escape the ongoing civil war that was taking place in Sri Lanka. There was a
rivalry between the Tamils and the Sinhalese, two groups of people in Sri Lanka. Being Tamil, her
family was faced with so many disadvantages, seeing that the Sinhalese were the dominant group.
During the war, her family faced a lot of discrimination. Margo s mom s brother was shot to death in
the middle of the street for no reason at all. Tired of all of the injustices faced, Margo s parents
decided to migrate to the

Performance Testing And Validating Systems Before...
B ENCHMARK applications are essential for performance testing and validating systems before
deployment to production environments. They emulate a typical production system and provide
measurements of a secondary System Under Test (SUT) such as the pro cessing power of a host, the
maximum number of serviceable clients, or the efficiency of a resource allocation algorithm [1]. They
allow various configurations, settings, parameters, etc. to be compared so that the best values for a
given scenario can be identified. Benchmark web applications typically consist of an example website,
such as an online store or a social networking website, and a workload generator that sends traffic to
the website in a manner emulating web browsing clients. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benchmarks therefore fail to accurately validate the performance of a SUT. We present C MART,
a web application benchmark designed to evaluate systems running in Cloud compu ting environments
such as Infrastructure as a Service or virtualized data centers. We address four main concerns with
existing benchmarks that make systems testing difficult, limited, and inaccurate. These concerns are
scalability, modern technologies, flexibility, and client realism. Scalability: Cloud Computing
environments al low on demand resource provisioning [1]. As such, C MART is designed to elastically
scale at each tier of the application. It also includes a de ployment server and scaling API to emulate a
Cloud computing environment in a local data center. Existing benchmarks are difficult or impossible
to elastically scale. Modern Technologies: Current web applications utilize technologies such as
AJAX, CSS, SQLite, HTML5, and have multimedia rich interfaces. Ex isting benchmarks do not
utilize all of these fea tures, reducing the variability in their resource utilizations, response times, and
simplifying their management. We include these technologies so that C MART emulates a modern
application. Flexibility: C MART is designed with multiple implementations of each tier. This allows a
SUT to be validated under different architectures. C MART can run as a two tier system up to a six tier
system. Existing benchmarks have only a

Attending an Egyptian Tea Party
Immersing myself in someone else s culture might be my favorite thing. I find it fascinating that
people around the world have so many different ways to interact with each other. The way they speak,
greet, think, eat, behave and generally live varies vastly depending on the region they reside, and the
culture they embody. That being said, when one of my mom s Egyptian friends invited us for tea at her
place I was more than excited to attend, mainly to get an inside look on a little bit of Egyptian culture.
The tea party was scheduled to begin at 7, but naturally my mom and I were half an hour late. The
funny thing is, despite our tardiness we were some of the first people there. This was one of the first
things I realized was a big difference: while Americans are monochromic, Egyptians definitely belong
to the polychromic category. It wasn t until around 8 that everyone else showed up, and the hosts were
perfectly fine with and expected people to be late. When we arrived the host greeted us with hugs and
lots of kisses. Egyptian greetings are a lot longer than what most people are accustomed to. There is
this constant unprofessed confusion in the Arab world on whether you kiss two or three times when
greeting someone, and I can testify that Egyptians kiss about four times. They also ask a lot of
questions while greeting. How have you been? What are you up to? How s school? How s your
family? I haven t seen you in so long! I hope you re doing well. To which you have the

Fool Me Once... Gimpel in Gimpel the Fool by Isaac Bashevis Singer is, contrary to what the title
implies, not a fool because of his morals, his faith in God, and his unshakable faith in humanity and
human goodness. Gimpel considers himself a self induced fool, so to speak. He is totally aware of the
fact that the townspeople mock and play jokes on him he almost encourages them to do so. But this,
and the fact that Gimpel is so conscious of how the townspeople all peg him as the town idiot, is
exactly what makes him the opposite of a fool. Singer gave Gimpel the ability to be a wise fool.

This trait makes Gimpel not only courageous, but selfless. Throughout the story, Gimpel s faith in God
is tried and tried through multiple obstacles and complications. But despite the whole world seeming
to be against him, his faith in God and His powers remains unwavering and true. In the beginning of
the story, writer Daniel Fraustino notes that Gimpel is able to weather [the townspeople s] humiliation
through his simple faith in God and the Bible. It is hard to believe that anyone could withstand such
faith in any higher power with all the trickery that Gimpel is forced to face, but he perseveres. When
Elka, Gimpel s wife, births a child only 4 months into their marriage, Gimpel is skeptical of whether
or not the child could be his. He tells her, You have borne a bastard (280). Gimpel continues to be
unconvinced, To tell the plain truth, I didn t believe her (281), until he speaks with the school master
and he told [Gimpel] that the very same thing had happened to Adam and Eve (281). Later on, Gimpel
catches his wife sleeping with another man beside her. Instead of confronting Elka about the man, he
goes to the rabbi. When the rabbi does not permit Gimpel to see Elka or their child, Gimpel begins to

Experiment: Enzyme Kinetics
Abstract
The aim of the study is two fold: to study the rate of absorbance with increasing concentration of
glucose, and to measure the activity of enzyme yeast invertase on sucrose. In task 1, the product
formation was measured using 3, 5 dinitrosalicyclic acid that reacts with glucose leading to a change
in colour from yellow to reddish brown. In task 2, the enzyme kinetics of yeast invertase on sucrose
was studied. The absorbance values of the corresponding volumes of the solutions were measured
using a spectrophotometer. Michaelis Menten curve and Lineweaver Burk Plot were made in order to
estimate the values of Vmax and Km ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discussion
Using Michaelis formula Vmax can be obtained as follows: VO=VMax ((substrate
concentration)/(subtrate concentration +km))
Vo=absorbence/min for example, 0.018/5min =0.0036/min.
From Figure 4, the maximum velocity is the highest point on the curve and the constant (km) is ½ the
maximum velocity. However, it is difficult to estimate Vmax using Michaelis Menten curve with
precision since the limits of the hyperbolic curve deviate at varying concentrations of the substrate.
The data can be linearized using Lineweaver Burk Plot to obtain Vmax and Km as follows:
Slope=Km/V_max
From Figure 5, Vmax = 0.0172 and Km = 0.3144. At ½ Vmax (Figure 4), the rate of reaction increases
steadily with an increase in substrate concentration. At this point, the rate of product formation is
partially limited by substrate availability. As the curve approaches Vmax, the enzyme catalyzed
saturation increases. In effect, the enzyme activity increases the rate of product formation up to a point
whereby the reaction rate remains constant as more substrate is added (saturation).

Information and Arguments Contained in Images Essay
Images contain arguments, whether if there are many or just a few. A series of images with no words
but contains an argument is a pictorial essay. John Berger s Ways of Seeing (1972) contains both word
and pictorial essays. The book is divided into seven sections, three being pictorials. In the very first
chapter of the book, Berger made it clear that the way one image follows another, their succession,
constructs an argument which becomes irreversible. Having noted that, it would seem that the sixth
essay argues that an observation painting provides more information than that of a directed or
arranged portrait. Images that are next to one another in the book such as Sarah Burge, 1883.

In these two images however, the observational artwork provides much more information than the
arranged portrait possibly because there is a lot more action and emotion being show in the image. It is
agreeable that observational images does provide much more information than arranged portraits also
because of the surrounding background as well as the actions shown in the images. The information
that we unconsciously get from images such as Johann Zoffany s Charles, Third Duke of Richmond
and Sale of Pictures and Slaves in the Rotunda, New Orleans, is the time period which it may have
occurred in and what kind of lifestyle both parties are living in. There is also action and movement in
the image and what could possibly be the century it was painted in. In contrast, Mademoiselle de
Clermont shows the viewers that the artist is more focused on the subject because she is looking
directly at the artist. There is also no sense of communication between the servants in the image with
her; this does not show any information except for the status difference between the any three women.
If there were some sort of communication between the women, there possibly would be more
information that the viewer can take such what kind of relationship the women have with each other as
well as the personality of each women. In comparison to the other two previous images, even though
this painting does provide a background, it is not enough to provide the viewer with

Presidency And The Media Essay
Presidency: The Strategies of the Media Richard Elliot Neustadt, a profound political scientist and
advisor to many presidents, has often argued over the years that presidential power is probably best
understood as the power to persuade. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what our
Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President of the
United States is the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what Americans can
and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more complicated
relationship than what others might say. There are times where the president is more than willing to
cooperate with the news, but there is also an equal amount of time where the presidency and the press
are at odds. In our country s lifetime of presidents, there have been numerous attempts and

all of the actions done by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) groups, gender

Miss Pao Alcantara (personal communication, November 15, 2013), a member of the organization of
LGBT students from the University of the Philippines, told us through an interview that:
It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it s really hard to come out
as an LGBT because of the fear that our families won t accept us, or people will judge us because of
our sexual orientation and gender identity. We also see discrimination everywhere, from the
companies not accepting transgender applicants, or firing employees who do homosexual acts.... For
now, it s really difficult. But I hope that it will change through time.
Recent studies reveal that more big companies abroad are now accepting LGBT in their companies.
Discrimination among these LGBT is diminishing in other countries. They can get promoted and are
given greater work responsibilities based on their abilities (Hewlett Sumberg, 2011). According to a
1996 Newsweek magazine poll cited by Fitch (1997), a majority of American voters and even
successful companies are conformed in the equality for gays and lesbians in the workplace. Likewise,
Human Rights Campaign studies revealed that more than 300 employers are also giving benefit to the
LGBT employees and are supporting their groups. Furthermore, different organizations such as

Significance Of Uncle Sam
I want YOU for US army
The red, white and blue colored poster with a man named Uncle Sam in front of it, is the most iconic
image in the American history. The patron of the military propaganda, he is worldwide known for
saying that he wants YOU to join his army. In a way Uncle Sam became the symbol of the American
government. But how did the image become so representative for the American people? And who is
the person behind this iconic image that still is an iconic symbol to the American government?
James Montgomery was born on June the 18TH 1977, in New York. He was a very talented artists and
sold his first illustration for 10 dollars to St. Nicholas at the age of 12. He worked for Life Magazine
when he was 14 and two years later for a magazine called Judge. He followed a study at the Art
Student League but thought he did not develop well enough as an artist there and found it a waste of
his time. James Montgomery was married to Nellie McCormick. With his wife, James Montgomery
has lived in Florida, California and Virginia. He tried to become a portrait painter which was not very
successful. James Montgomery began drawing Hollywood stars in 1903 for the Photoplay Magazine.

The Little Boy Bombs That Ended World War II
There are many factors that ended World War II; However, The bombs and the ship that dropped them
were some of the most important. These bombs were known as the Fat Man and Little Boy, and the
ship was the Boeing B 29 Superfortress Enola Gay.
The first bomb dropped in World War II was the Little Boy. The Little Boy bomb was a gun type
device, whose critical mass was achieved when a uranium projectile was fired into a uranium target
through a barrel. Both were in a subcritical state. The resulting uranium mass was composed of both
the projectile and the target going from a subcritical state to a critical state which, in turn, caused the
chain reaction to begin. The Little Boy bomb weighed nine thousand seven hundred pounds with a
length of ten feet and a diameter of twenty eight inches. The fuel used for the bomb was made up of
highly enriched uranium. The fuel was approximately one hundred forty pounds. The target case,
barrel, uranium projectile, and the other main parts of the Little Boy bomb were transported to Tinian
Island via the USS Indianapolis. The efficiency of this bomb was destitute. Roughly 1.38% of the
uranium fuel had actually fissioned in the bomb. The explosive force of the Little Boy was equal to
that of fifteen thousand tons of TNT. The use of the Little Boy bomb was to be dropped on the
Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The delivery of the bomb was by the B 29 Enola Gay
which was piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets ( The Little Boy and Fat

Hunger Games Dystopia
Imagine living in a society where the government watches their citizens every move. A place where
even the smallest mistakes and acts of independance are punishable by death. According the many sci
fi, fantasy authors this is what it would be like living in a dystopian future. Dystopian societies are
undesirable, fearful societies usually due to a government who does not care about its citizens.
Dystopian fiction is a fast growing genre of literature. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and
Divergent by Veronica Roth are both books which take place in a dystopian future. The Hunger Games
is based in a dystopian North America, called Panem. Panem is separated into the Capitol, where all

being laughed at and they re the joke of Panem (Collins 416). The Capitol s reaction to the attempted
suicides makes the citizens of Panem aware that their government can be beat, there is something that
they can do to stop Snow. Tris, from Divergent, acts as the character who shows this to the rebels. She
grows up in Abnegation, the faction that no one believes could fight against Jeanine. The Abnegation
are called stiffs because they are believed to be uptight. During Dauntless initiation everyone is
surprised that a stiff [is] the first to jump (Roth 60) when their bravery is being tested. Tris proves that
the Abnegation are capable of fighting. However, the Abnegation is still attacked by the Erudite,
saying that they are corrupt leaders. Tris is the only one to realize that they are calling for an
overthrow of the entire government (Roth 245). She proves to the city that Erudite has treasonous
plans. Without her no one would have been prepared to fight against Jeanine and start the revolution.

Fate is debatable. Some say that we are all pawns in a higher being s chess game. Others believe that
we execute free will in every aspect of our lives. Most people, however, believe a combination of the
two. It is an age old question, and like all intangible questions we try again and again to formulate an
answer through books, movies, conversations, analysis of history and prediction of the future. We look
at snapshots of the past or theoretical worlds and try to discern our own answers. When Katherine

While the athletes recognized it was time for women to join the sport, others had vastly different
opinions.
During the Boston Marathon, there is a section for photographers to take shots of the athletes. It just
so happened that this was where Jock Semple tried to throw Katherine out of the race. Unluckily for
him however, Katherine s boyfriend at the time, Tom Miller, an All American footballer, was running
the marathon with her and tackled Jock. If she had not made the decision to date Tom Miller, she most
likely would have been physically thrown out of the race and never have finished. This whole scene
took place right in front of the photographers and the photo of Semple trying to throw Switzer out is
now rather famous and served as huge publicity for women in sports at the time (Makers). In order for
Switzer to have made as big of a splash as she did, so many smaller details had to fall into place. For
starters, Katherine s father was a major in the United States Army, this set her up to lead a physically
active life. Additionally she went to a school with an open and supportive cross country coach.
Without that coach, it is questionable as whether she would have registered for, or even have run the
marathon! Lastly, if Jock Semple had not tried to physically remove her from the race in front of the
photographers, the iconic photo that changed the face of women in sports might

Jeffrey Bauman s Heroism In The Film Stronger
Introduction The film Stronger (2015) based on the memoir of Jeffrey Bauman directed by David
Green, focuses on his life after losing his legs in the Boston Marathon bombings. In the early scenes
of Stronger, the movie shows Bauman s life of recovery and adaptation to living as a disabled man.
Bauman becomes a symbol of hope and inspiration to the people after the bombing. Bauman comes
home to his mother and sees tons of care packages and thank you letters from people who believe he is
an inspiring hero. The day of the Boston marathon, he was waiting for his girlfriend to cross the finish
line while standing a couple inches away from one of the bombs. After the blast, he becomes one of
the most recognizable survivors because of a photo that went viral. The iconic image shows rescuers
saving him thereby depicting him as incapable. He becomes the disabled on screen character who
inspires others. In one scene, he is honored to carry the Boston Strong Flag at the Bruins Game

Sirens In The Odyssey
Homer and Atwood showcase the multifaceted nature of the myth of the Sirens through various
perspectives, with varying tones, and utilizing imagery. Homer recounts the narrative of a man
sufficiently shrewd to hear the siren s tune and not lose his life; meanwhile Atwood portrays a siren,
alluring men to her island to trap them.
Although the tones differentiate from each other within the two passages, both utilize cleverness with
trickery. Odysseus runs with his life secure, and the Siren feels accomplished; her boring song...works
every time. Phrases such as now with a sharp word demonstrate how the tone in Homer s passage is
powerful and rich. In any case, as Homer s tone has manly characteristics, Atwood s has femininity.
Her tone feels sinister yet beseeching. These two passages pair as two parts of a whole. Odysseus
represents a prey, attempting hysterically to escape demise, while the Siren is a savage predator, ...

Homer s words are manly, effective, and powerful. He utilizes words like sharp, strength, strong
hands, and sharp sword. The description illustrates a man who is not only cruising by the Sirens, but
heading to war with them. Homer depicts the Sirens song as ravishing, thrilling, and urgent. Their
voices influence Odysseus emotions. Additionally, there almost is a feeling of sexual tension taken
from this sequence of imagery. Atwood s imagery, however, feels distant from a manly nature and
certainly less sensual. The phrases bird suit and squatting nearly provide the picture of an absurd
environment; meanwhile feathery maniacs and fatal and valuable radiate a graver tone. The imagery
along with the tone influences the reader to understand and feel sympathy for this poor Siren, for she
abhors what she is. Overall, the poem starts enchantingly threatening, then turns to be relatively
innocent, and lastly closes with a similar grave and lethal or clever

Sheena Neff What Is The Baylor Bubble
What is the Baylor bubble? This was the unexpected question that BIC alumna Dr. Sabrina Neff posed
to our classroom as she began her lecture. Curious about this so called Baylor bubble , I shifted in my
seat, readying my hand for note taking. Dr. Neff continued in this Socratic style of question and
answer, until she relayed what she felt the Baylor bubble was; a myth. As she laid out her reasoning
behind this claim, one point was emphasized: the danger of such a myth is that it creates an
environment in which Baylor faculty, staff, and students are unprepared to deal with bad things when
they occur, for they surely have occurred and will continue to do so. Due to the recent situations that

Neff speak, what greatly stood out to me was her emphasis on how we, as students, contribute to

underestimate your power to change a situation . As I write this reflection, I m sitting in my dorm
room, with the door partially open and quiet music playing. If I became too distracted, I suppose I
could shut my door, and keep the girls on my hall out. But, I won t. Why? Because developing
relationships with the girls on my hall, and people on Baylor s campus, is of equal, if not greater,
importance than anything else I m doing here. As Baylor students, we absolutely do have the
responsibility, the honor; of creating the sort environment that we desire to see whatever sort that may

atmosphere that I think many of us hope to see empowered here. While her lecture came at a time in
Baylor s soon to be history that is wrought with unfortunate circumstances, I believe her points apply
to all generations of Baylor students, of college students, of people. The worldly impact of her advice
must not be overlooked it is exactly the kind of influence that the BIC encourages its students to

East Rock Community Magnet School
The teacher I interviewed for this project was a fifth grade teacher, Mr. Keith Wolkovitz. This teacher
has been teaching at East Rock Community Magnet School for his entire career of eleven years. East
Rock Community Magnet School is a Title I school in the New Haven School District. The school has
a very diverse population and over 90% of the students qualify for the free reduced lunch program. As
a Title I school, the school is also mandated by the state to implement certain remedial interventions to
improve students academic scores.
Analysis
During our interview, Mr. Wolkovitz described most of the at risk students at East Rock Community
Magnet School as a student who is struggling in one or more aspect of learning . This response is
seemingly broad, however, I believe that he would define an at risk student as being someone that is
academically behind the other students in at least one content area: mathematics, reading, writing,
science or social studies. Mr. Wolkovitz also suggested that the students receiving special education
services are also included in his definition of an at risk student. This response seems quite appropriate
considering the grade level of students that Mr. Wolkovitz works with. Students do start showing some
signs of being at risk in elementary school; however, most of the early warning signs are centered on
their academic performance. Younger students are not as likely to be truant, engaged in risky or
criminal behavior, or have family

The Importance Of Happiness
I believe that every human being deserves the chance to pursue happiness, regardless of their race,
gender, religion, or sexual orientation. We deserve the same chance because we are all born equal, but
just because we have the chance to pursue happiness it doesn t mean we are entitled to do whatever we
want. There are restrictions we should consider as we pursue happiness because we can t be going
around breaking the law or hurting people. I also think that we should allow ourselves to experience
more than just happiness, for example, anger, grief, fear, love and so on.
There are countries where the people are not allowed to express themselves, they are told what to do
and are treated like objects, and if they oppose it could lead to serious consequences such hard labor,
imprisonment, or even death. One of them being North Korea. We know how they treat the people in
North Korea, they aren t allowed to express themselves. I, fortunately, live in the United States. A
country where I am allowed to do whatever I want as long as I don t break the law. Here in America,
we all have the same opportunities to pursue happiness.
I think we should take in consideration the people around us when pursuing happiness, but at the same
time we shouldn t let it keep us from being happy. What guarantee us they aren t doing the same thing,
what if they are pursuing happiness and are making us less happy. One example I can think of is me, I
recently bought an x pipe (an X Pipe is at the heart

Milton Friedm The Limitations Of The Market
In contrast with Galbraith, Milton Friedman never appreciated the limitations of the market, he was a
forceful critic of government. He takes as a starting point Adam Smith s skepticism, but he is much
more toward the relationship between morality and capitalism. He launched a point of view which
later generated controversy. He asserts that only people have responsibility. A corporation is an
artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibility, but business as a whole cannot be
said to have responsibilities. The only responsibility of companies is to get involved in economic
activities designed to make profit, any expense incurred for social and moral reason affecting this
fundamental goal, such as any extra expense to support some communities or to protect and restore the
environment, will result in decreasing the profitability and, in the end, everyone will have something
to lose. The member of a corporation, their position such as a stakeholder can undertake moral
responsibilities, but as individual, not as representatives of the corporation. According to Friedman,
there must not be any connection between business and ethic is that a corporation is a legal entity, not
a person, and morality is a distinct attribute, belonging to human being. Thus, he stated that moral
criteria have no place in the economy, especially in capitalism; economy and business are in the
horizon of amorality and it is there that they should remain. To me, I do not completely

Credit Cards And The Best Habits For Effective Credit Card
Credit cards have become an integral part of our lives. We rely them for enjoying small pleasures and
while making big purchases.
But as helpful as credit cards can be, using them the wrong way can lead to a loss of credit score and
even get you into debt. Therefore, it is important that you know how to make the most of your credit
cards.
Here are some of the best habits for effective credit card use.
Find the Right Card
Not all credit cards are alike and you should carefully consider your options before you sign up with a
specific card. It s a good idea to compare different credit card offers through websites such as This Is
Money, for instance.
Furthermore, if you ve found a card for yourself, make sure you understand the terms and conditions
before you sign up. Credit card agencies are good at telling you all the positives of the specific card,
so you need to be careful and read the fine print as well.
If you don t understand the terms and conditions, ask the card supplier to explain them to you. If they
can t do this properly, then you are probably better off with someone else anyway!
Pay Your Bills on Time
From the first day that you start using the card, the most important thing is to keep up to date with the
bill payment dates. If you miss one date, it s easy to start missing them even more frequently.
The key is to build a habit that guarantees you are always on time. Smartphone reminders might be a
good option to keep in mind especially if you often

An Analysis Of Lucky Jim By Kingsley Amis
Entitled and Not Entitled In Lucky Jim, by Kingsley Amis that Dixon is the one that gets everything
he wants. It might not seem that he is getting what he wants at the beginning. It is not like that because
yes he was dating Margaret. She wanted to kill herself because Dixon was not being with her or
treating her like she wanted to be treated. Which during those hard moments he was going through it
was just like a test in life for better to come in a way. Having to be entitled makes kids or people very
selfish. For example there is nine ways that you know your child has an issue or is entitled. They can
not handle disappointments, expect a prize when they are behaving good, feels that rules do not have
to apply to them, constantly wants more, blames others when it is their fault, and expects to be rescued
when they have a problem. It is like when kids feel that are better than any other kids or people. Being
entitled is something it seems that does not happen to him. Eventually it does though he has a girl that
is one of the biggest things that makes him feel good at first. Then seeing his girl being obsessed with
him makes him alil uncomfortable. He makes a move that gets a little away from her. Which yes she
pretends to commit suicide to get the attention. That is why he does not break up with her feeling bad
for her. Though people just feel bad for her of the way she acts. He is a poor guy that struggles in his
job well trying to keep his job. Gets frustrated really quick has a bad mood sometimes. Amis says ,
Dixon knew all this , and very much better than Welch could hope to, but he felt constrained to say:
Yes , I see. I think living with you, Professor, and Mrs. Welch, must have helped her a lot to get out of
the wood (Amis 3). Shows that she is in good care or you can say good hands. Dixon is still worried
about her which make him a really good boyfriend, but she wants more than that. Margaret wants him
to be by herself but he really does not want to be in that position because he lost those types of
feelings for her. There is so much love for him that he does not notice that it is there next to him
asking to open the doors or him. He seems that no one is there for him but many people is actually

Family and Systemic Therapies
The emergence of family and systemic therapies in the latter part of the 20th century saw something of
a paradigm shift in the world of psychotherapy and counseling. Those in the field during the 1960 s
and 1970 s were predominantly occupied with psychodynamic, behavioural and humanistic
approaches (Corey, 2009). Theories attached to these forms of therapy emphasized the autonomy of
the individual, and the capacity to engage in free, independent choice. In therapeutic settings, much of
the discussion would also typically be focused on cause and effect , in other words; seeking an
explanation for why a person was thinking, feeling or behaving in a particular manner. Less attention
would be focused on the context of the individuals experience, and the matter of how a situation came
to be as it is (Bowen, 1972).
This idea however is central to what would later become the practice of family and systemic therapies.
Family therapy advocates using practices that specifically address historical, contextual and
constitutional factors, including working with all members of the extended family and wider social
network as well as coaching people to manage their constraints within their unit (Carr, 2012).
Systemic therapy has its roots in family systems theory, which was pioneered by Murray Bowen, an
American psychiatrist who originally practiced within the psychoanalytic model, but later shifted his
focus to the role of family dynamics and dimensions of the family as a system during

Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson
Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many
events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love,
the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot
that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus
the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book.
Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most
unspeakable way.
Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by
all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with
Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple
life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co
worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for
people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married
and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely
had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young
children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This
was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet.
Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every
opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a
child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know
he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on
the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack.

of the many short stories that Edgar Allan Poe is known for is The Cask of Amontillado. This short
story is about Montressor s seek of revenge to Fortunato who had hurt him a thousand times and
learned that Fortunato laughed at his proud name, Montressor, the name of an old and honored family
(Poe). Montressor devises a plan of revenge by using Fortunato s great weakness; he liked to drink

B. Sova, views the significance of the conflict between the Roman Catholic Montressor and the
Mason Fortunato as one of the Church defending against it enemies (42). While Sova defines it as
political and religious conflict as the root for revenge, I believe that this is just a conflict between two
rich men of great arrogance who had their feelings hurt and wanted to use family power for revenge
because two people of a political and religious conflict does not simply go into each other s house and
start drinking together. Montressor continues to express his care and insist that they should go back.
He explains to Fortunato that he will be ill, and cannot be responsible (Poe). This verbal irony
describes Montressor s view towards revenge of not only punish but punish with impunity because he
wants to have his murderous revenge without any consequences. Fortunato foolishly replies:
Enough,
The cough s a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough.
True true, I replied; and indeed, I had no intentions of alarming you unnecessarily but you should use

class has helped me to express my ideas more clearly in an essay, it has allowed me to create essay
organized and understandable to the reader. I did all my assignment on time although many times I
had to review them. In many times homework became hard for me and I had to ask my classmate to

William Faulkner once said, We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice
it. American history has come a long way, comparing present day to the past many can see a drastic
difference. In a historicist perspective, a short story that captures this country s past is William
Faulkner s A Rose for Emily written and published in 1930 and was William Faulkner s first short
story to be published in a national magazine. The critics and the public view the reading somewhat
well, however, there were some disturbing instances that made the public more shocked and disturbed
by the short story. William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily reveals the standards of taste and value, social

Comparing the treatments of African Americans in the 1930s to the African Americans in William
Faulkner s A Rose for Emily there was a change in how they were treated as time went on, and during
the 1930s African Americans were still segregated from the Caucasians however were treated far
better than the time when this story is taking place. William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily gives a few
details on the treatment of African American such as this quote from the story, Alive, Miss Emily had
been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the town, dating from that day
in 1894 when Colonel Sartoris, the mayor he who fathered the edict that no Negro woman should
appear on the streets without an apron remitted her taxes, the dispensation dating from the death of her
father on into perpetuity. (Faulkner, 1) During that time there were many restrictions for the African
American and during that time many were slaves in the south, where this story is located. When this
work was published racial issues were a problem during that time and this story gave a bit of light to
that situation. Moreover, William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily gives the reader a better understanding

Analysis Of Preston s Story Essay
Preston s story is one that will strike you at heart, but make you question why you ever thought you
had it rough. He was born into a family consisting of him and his mother. There were struggles
amongst this family right off the get go. Preston s life has been full of hardships but God has shaped
his future into something beautiful. Preston s mother was a teen mom who was impregnated at the age
of 16 and gave labor at 17. His father was not present from the beginning of his life and has not made
an attempt to help raise him and support his mom. It would be extremely difficult to be a teen and still
have to raise a child on your own. Introduced to Preston at age seven was his soon to be step dad and
his two siblings. This was good for him and his mother but ended up to be a tough situation for
Preston. Preston felt that his step father treated his step brother and sister better than he treated him.
Which made some difficulties throughout his life. Preston was born and raised in Iowa. He originated
from the town of Le Mars. Preston had his first fight for his life at the age of five. His mom being only
22 years old had to go through one of the hardest things a parent can go through. Preston was
diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and was hospitalized for multiple months. Throughout this brutal
battle, Preston was read his death rights, in such bad condition he could not move and even had times

African American Pageants Research Paper
Miss Black USA Talks about Pageantry and Being a Black Ballerina Photo Credit: Go Fund Me
Daphne Lee, who won the national Miss Black USA this year is also a ballerina. She wears her natural
curly hair with proud and is very determined to squash the stereotype when it comes to the black
female body. This beauty queen and ballerina confidently identifies herself as an Afro Latina.
As a ballerina, she is constantly exposed to the criticisms of targeting the black woman s body. More
than half a century ago, Raven Wilkinson became one of the very first African American ballerinas
who worked for a prominent ballet company. However, she danced under the premise that she must
paint her face as a white woman. Meanwhile, Lauran Anderson broke barriers when she became one
of the first female principal dancers in a U.S. ballet company. ... Show more content on

Aside from being a beauty queen and a ballerina, Lee is also an outspoken activist. She raves how the
Miss Black USA pageant helps serve women of color by helping them achieve their education and
academic goals.
The real reason many women join pageants is not really because they want to achieve a beauty status
but it is actually to gain money for scholarship. Most are trying to finish college while others are
pursuing a master s degree. Joining a pageant can help them achieve that.
Lee feels that beauty pageants helps empower women and they do not exploit women as others paint
the contests to be. She thinks that people perceive pageant contestants in a negative way because they
don t know the real story behind it.
The media and the show producers do tend to glamorize and sensationalize the event. However, when
you break it down, it s actually an interview contest where the judges needs to see if you are in fact the
right woman to do the job. The organization is looking for someone to represent

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Rappaccini s Daughter
Nature and Nurture in Frankenstein and Rappaccini s Daughter
One of the most popular disputes in the history of philosophy regards whether nurture of a human
being plays a more important role in the formation of its character than the genetic heritage that it
bears. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but
sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. Such examples are Frankenstein
by Marry Shelley and Rappaccini s Daughter , by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Their authors relate the
evolution of at least two characters, the monster and Beatrice, throughout both writings, with the way
those characters were nurtured. Both authors use innocence as a common ... Show more content on

Certain rumors spread into town characterize her as a highly educated young woman. We find
evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to have
instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she is already
qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she confesses later in the
story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is involved in; actually, she is only
familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883). She practically knows as much as a
child of small age would; her education also lacks any form of interaction experience with the society.
Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as her only companion of life. Her reason for
isolation is related to her father s overprotective attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her
in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers, making her immune to them, but also transforming her into
a source of poison. Beatrice is aware of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly
isolated from the rest of the world by her father. The deadly attribute Beatrice possesses places a social
safeguarding wall around her.
The similarity between the monster s isolation and Beatrice s isolation is thus obvious. The two
parents, Victor and Rappaccini, highly competent

Therefore, for the purpose of this report, two specific market segments have been selected and profiled
to provide an overview of which segments H M should specially target when launching in Melbourne.
3.1 Profile One Women s outwear segment
The foremost market segment that H M should target would be the women s outerwear segment which
includes all garments from tops to blouses to jackets (REFERENCE). Main reason being, this market
segment is reasonably profitable with a Retail Value of over $3000 million (Refer to figure XX),
where women have traditionally been the dominate consumer in the clothing and footwear industry
(REFERENCE). However, there appears to be a new social trend where men are becoming more
fashion minded and are also looking for cheaper options (REFERENCE). In recent times, there has
been a change in preference for young women, where they do not only demand for high quality yet
fashionable products, it must also be low priced (REFERENCE). H M should then be able to target
this segment, as the company s core concept coincides with this new trend. Where H M s women s
clothing are designed for women of all ages who are fashion minded, where its product line includes
everything from modern basics to tailored classics, sportswear, maternity clothes and cutting edge
fashion. (H M, 2008, pg. 17). However, for the purpose of this report and to make it easier to target,
the primary segment will be young women aged 18 to 24, while the

Ergot Is The Main Cause Of The Salem Witch Trials
The poisonous fungus Ergot is the main cause of the Salem Witch Trials because in the 1500s, Rye
bread was found to be a main staple of people s diets, and the the spread of this fungus through the
consumption of Rye is the only feasible explanation to the random outbreak of witch persecution.
The first reason why Ergot is the main cause of the Salem Witch Trials is that the symptoms of those
who were bewitched were experiencing line up exactly with the symptoms of those who had
consumed Ergot. Linda R. Caporael of University of California at Santa Barbara argues that symptoms
displayed by the children thought to be bewitched fits and complaints of being pricked or bitten, for
example were typical of ergotism. This suggest that those

ID s only business activity is to sell pod racers imported from PD. ID pays a 20% import duty based
on the transfer price. Customs officials in Japan carefully monitor the invoices of imported
manufactured goods to ensure that the goods are priced at fair values . The Government of Japan
considers any price between full production cost and 150% of full production cost to be within its
definition of fair value. Information on ID is provided in Exhibit 4. While ID is only two years old, it
has gained a significant market share in Japan by following a penetration pricing strategy. All
indications are that sales will continue to grow. In response to a recent inquiry by Hank Solo, ID s
manager indicated that the proposed increase in the cost of a pod racer from PD would lead him to
increase the ID sales price by $300 per unit causing volumes to decline to 1,700 per year. At the end of
their meeting, Hank Solo requested Elan Harrar to analyze the company s current situation, including
the TD manager s two proposals, and recommend improvements. Specifically, he would like you to
determine the impact of each proposal on the pretax income and return on investment for each
division and the company as a whole along with the behavioral implications of these proposals. Hank
Solo would also like a discussion of the relevant considerations in setting CMI s domestic and

Automatic Transmission Essay
ABSTRACT
The transmission in a car which works automatically depending on the vehicle speed and engine speed
is called as automatic transmission while as a manual transmission is the one there is a manual clutch
pedal used while changing gears that allow the driver to change the gears as per driving needs. In a
country like India, automatic transmission gives only a driving pleasure to the driver in heavy traffic
as there is no need of changing gears because of the fact that it lacks a clutch paddle system which
gives complete rest to one leg of the driver. Manual transmission fails to provide such an added
benefit to drivers. But in developing countries, the idea of an automatic transmission is not wise and
applicable to all due to the economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the selection of reverse mode , the driver must come to a complete stop, depress the shift lock
button and select reverse. Severe damage may be caused to the transmission if the car is not made to
come to a complete stop. Most of the modern day automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in
place, which prevents putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forward.
3. Neutral / No gear (N)
This mode is almost same as in manual cars where it allows the vehicle to coast freely under its own
weight and gain momentum without the motive force from the engine. 4. Drive (D)
This mode of the transmission is to engage the full range of available gear which allows the vehicle to
move forward and accelerate through the range of gears. In this mode the gear changes automatically
as the cars gains speed. The number of gear ratios within the transmission depends on the model, but
initially they ranged from three to four and five speeds gears. Six speed automatic transmissions are
the most common in cars and trucks. However, seven speed automatics are also being available in
some high performance production luxury cars as are eight speed

conducted an analysis using data collected from 140 patients through an online health assessment
questionnaire. All of the participants in study were screened for a risk of them having a particular
disease and were assigned a personalized diagnostic plan based on their risk profile using an
algorithm. The average diagnostic cost came substantially lower than the tests recommended by usual
health preventive checkup plans. This could result in highly judicious utilization of healthcare
resources, money, and participant time without creating any significant compromise in screening
sensitivity.

Analysis Of Veve And El Nino
Veve and El Niño are two very different, yet similar foreign films that discuss the dealing of drugs in
order to progress in society in each of the character s own individual way. Veve, directed by Simon
Mukali, depicts a story that takes place in Kenya and involves the lives of many who are trying to
discover themselves in a world of corruption, revenge, and love. This drama packed film illustrates the
numerous problems that are occurring within Kenya in regards to the affects and economic importance
of veve, which is a drug also known as khat. Although the film s native language is mainly in Swahili,
the director s cinematography and style allows the audience to get a basic understanding of the
problems portrayed in this film. El Niño, a Spanish film directed by Daniel Monzón, depicts a thrilling
movie of two teenage boys who enter the drug trafficking world to better their lives financially, and
two police officers wanting to eradicate a drug trafficking network. This action packed crime film
demonstrates the drug problems that are currently happening with Strait of Gibraltar. Although both
these films were created in two different places, they share the same underlying plot. However, in
order to understand the meanings of these two films, it is important to analyze and dive into the deeper
meaning of this film as it relates to the notion of space through the concepts of mobility and gender.

  • 2. The United States Armed Forces Rotary Wing Aircraft The UH 60 Black Hawk has been in service for the better part of three decades. The Army has invested into a new program called Future Vertical Lift (FVL). This program will develop a replacement for the United States Armed Forces rotary wing aircraft that include the UH 60 Black Hawk, AH 64 Apache, and CH 47 Chinook. The aim of the program is to develop an airframe that will combine several roles into one aircraft, effectively cutting down costs for the military. Many different design concepts are in in development. Companies such as Sikorsky, Boeing, Bell, and Lockheed Martin are all building rotorcraft flight demonstrators for 2017. The Army hopes to retire their aging aircraft with an airframe that can encompass all aspects of heavy lift, utility, and attack into one common design at a much more affordable price. The new helicopter should be faster, more agile, and carry more troops and cargo father than ever before (Mizokami, 2016). The Vietnam War, the first airmobile war spawned the combat helicopter. The Bell UH 1 Iroquois or simply known as the Huey provided that air mobility. Primarily designed as a medical platform it did not possess all the requirements that fulfill all the United States Army s requirements. The military had a need for an improved and more capable aircraft to fill the shoes of the Huey. In 1972, the Army issued a tinder for a new front line helicopter. It needed to be able to carry 11 combat troops plus 4 crewmembers and cruise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I M Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing Analysis In I m Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing, by John T. Edge provides details of having to eat something he normally would not think about eating. In the first part of the story, Edge tells of how he came to hear about a pork product called pickled pig lips . Edge describes in detail about meeting the owner of Farm Fresh Food Supplier and listening to the owner Lionel Dufour, give a history about how he came to making a business of packaging pickled pig lips. Lips are all meat, Lionel told me earlier in day. No gristle, no bone, no nothing. Their bar food hot and vinegary, great with beer. Used to be the lips ended up in sausages, headcheese, and those sorts of things. A lot of them still do. Dufour tries to explain to Edge what lips are used for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the first attempt to start a meat business failed, Dufour s dad started buying pig lips from another supplier. There was such a high demand for cooked pig lips that they family had to start cooking their own. Pretty soon, we were selling so many lips that we had to almost bed Di Salvo s for product. That s when we started cooking up our own. (82) Proceeding onto the second part of his story, Edge describes how he had to muster up courage to actually try the famous pickled lips. Meanwhile back at Jesse s Place I finish my third Bud, order my fourth. Now, I tell myself, my courage bolstered by booze, I m ready to eat a lip. (83) Edge tries to get himself together by taking a suggestion from a local and eating the lip with chips. I pull from the bag a coral crescent of meat now crusted with blond bits of chips. When I chomp down, the soft flesh dissolves between my teeth. It tastes like a flaccid crackling, unmistakably porcine, and not altogether bad. The chips help, providing texture where there was ... The books that are successful and considered classics have careful thought put into them. A lot of the powerful value of these books lie in what reaches children the easiest the illustrations. Clement Hurd was the illustrator of many noteworthy children s publications. To best understand his success, one must know about his relation to and understanding of his youthful audience, the people that he worked with and was influenced by, and the time period in which he was creating and being influenced by. These various aspects of his life created the effective literature that readers enjoy to this day. One strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following the First World War, much of society rejected the ideas of machinery and war, as were often suggested in futuristic, avant garde art up until then. Artists such as Leger worked with this situation by embracing classicism and realistic, figurative works. This approach worked, and their art was successful amongst society. Léger and his colleagues rejoiced in the new publicity of the postwar years and the energy of mass media (O Donovan, 2013). Hurd took this European art movement and used it in his illustration of the book Runaway Bunny . The pictures in this book are done in a realistic manner, with smoothly blended colors and no cartoon like outlines. Part of this art movement included frontal compositions and strong contours, which are also seen in this series of illustration. In the style of return to order art, animals live in unity in a landscape that flows easily to the viewer. Gradually, the ideas of classical and modern combined. In the art world, organic and abstract, irregular shapes began to have increasing importance and illustrators such as Hurd adapted to this as well. Goodnight Moon , written five years after Runaway Bunny , and My World , written seven years after, have very different styles and adapt to the more abstract forms that the art world responded to. In these works, the reader observes flat shapes that stand in stark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sodium is a very reactive chemical element that is found in the planet s crust. 2.6% of the earth s crust is sodium, and the reason that we can t find any sort or sodium on the ground is because sodium is reactive to any sort of the earth s moisture can and will have a chemical reaction with the piece of sodium and will explode. • 7. Compare And Contrast The Liberal And Conservative Views On... My philosophical viewpoint on the political parties can closely relate to both Liberal, and Conservative. I will explain why I compare myself to both parties, and explain my views on controversial topics. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of conservative, Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick with tradition attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and most importantly gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the shootings going on. Liberals protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms because of all the shootings going on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility should be able to own a gun and protect himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. If we as a whole make owning a gun illegal, not only will it start a big outrage across the country and probably cause more destruction and death, but also it will also not help. • 8. The Melting Pot Of America The melting pot of America is a concept of social and racial acceptance, where individuals from across the globe can be transparently acknowledged, without being judged by their ethnicity or race. A thought doesn t specifically reflect reality all the time, as the melting pot has never been broadly acknowledged in America at any point in our nation s history. With the pandemic of violence growing and tensions rising between races, with groups like Black Lives Matter, and Antifa, contrasts between racial groups run widespread with hate against one another for the color of their skin. However, Texas State University student Rudy Martinez, wrote an article in the university s newspaper about how to end these tensions. Martinez affirms that all these racial tensions come from a social construct made by white people called, whiteness , which assimilates and separates all races from whites. Throughout the article, he explains that the separation caused by whiteness kept all other races down, while whites remained oblivious to the advantages their skin brings them. But despite having an interesting concept, there are many weaknesses in Martinez s argument because he constantly contradicts himself. He tells readers that we should hate the concept of whiteness instead, and not white people just because they were born, but instead contradicts this with his main headline being, Your DNA is an abomination (Martinez), which counters his own argument because he hates on white ... Public hospitals struggled with revenue and many set up contribution schemes in the 1930 s In 1928, a compulsory health insurance scheme was suggested and turned down because the friendlies society thought it compromised their business model. It was then reintroduced in 1938 and this time opposed by the medical profession as they questioned the range of services covered. In 1944 a Pharmaceuticals Scheme was implemented but was challenged by the Victorian government and the health profession. The High court found it to be unconstitutional and argued the scheme was an infringement on a practitioner s right to prescribe medication new PBS commenced but was not implanted due to strong opposition from the medical profession who did not support the proposed renumerating and administrative arrangements In 1950 the Menzies government introduced the first National Health Scheme. • 11. The Influence Of Interest Group Politics And Collective... Interest Group Politics and Collective Action The Human Rights Campaign is the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender advocacy group in the nation. With over 400,000 members, the group is able to lobby very effectively in Washington and has an impressive legislative record. The HRC began in 1980 as a fund to raise money for gay supportive congressional candidates. It was meant to be a response to the successful right wing groups at the time, including the National Conservative Political Action Committee and Moral Majority. By 1984, the Human Rights Campaign Fund was effectively supporting congressional candidates, raising over 475,000 dollars. By 1990, the HRC had a membership of 25 thousand, and was organizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The HRC, however, retains a high degree of legitimacy and effectiveness in the political world mainly because rights advocacy positions have a high salience in the American political system. The group s small, personalized constituency may even help in its efforts to mobilize effectively, but that will be discussed in the next section. When examining the dynamics of any interest group, one benefits from keeping in mind Mancur Olson s Logic of Collective Action. Each and every group of people must deal with the problem of collective action, the problem of discovering how to get each individual to act and contribute towards furthering a common interest. As I said before, the Human Rights Campaign may benefit from having a smaller, more personalized base of members. The gay community is extremely cohesive, especially when compared to other social and even ethnic groups. In many cities, gays reside, work, and socialize within a very tight sphere. This general characteristic of the gay community aids the HRC in combating the collective action problem since it makes the membership small and easier to break into even smaller parts. Larger, more loosely bound groups have a difficult time organizing because members perceive lower social benefits and greater probability that others in the group will do the work for them (Olson). • 12. Analysis Of George Washington Carver s The Golden Door... George Washington Carver once said Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. Freedom can be defined in various ways by different people. To many immigrants, America is often seen as that opportunity of freedom, the freedom to learn, the freedom to love, and even just the freedom to exist. In this paper, I will put into words the story behind a second generation female immigrant s experiences. By using various articles and notes given in class, I will talk about her and her family s assimilation process and how their freedom involves the power of education. I interviewed a second generation individual for this paper. I shall call her Margo, for the sake of confidentiality purposes. She is currently a high school student. Margo was born in America to two immigrant parents, making her a second generation immigrant (Feliciano Lec 01/04/16). Both of Margo s parents migrated from Sri Lanka, a small country located by the tip of India. Margo s parents came to America to escape the ongoing civil war that was taking place in Sri Lanka. There was a rivalry between the Tamils and the Sinhalese, two groups of people in Sri Lanka. Being Tamil, her family was faced with so many disadvantages, seeing that the Sinhalese were the dominant group. During the war, her family faced a lot of discrimination. Margo s mom s brother was shot to death in the middle of the street for no reason at all. Tired of all of the injustices faced, Margo s parents decided to migrate to the ... • 13. Performance Testing And Validating Systems Before... B ENCHMARK applications are essential for performance testing and validating systems before deployment to production environments. They emulate a typical production system and provide measurements of a secondary System Under Test (SUT) such as the pro cessing power of a host, the maximum number of serviceable clients, or the efficiency of a resource allocation algorithm [1]. They allow various configurations, settings, parameters, etc. to be compared so that the best values for a given scenario can be identified. Benchmark web applications typically consist of an example website, such as an online store or a social networking website, and a workload generator that sends traffic to the website in a manner emulating web browsing clients. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benchmarks therefore fail to accurately validate the performance of a SUT. We present C MART, a web application benchmark designed to evaluate systems running in Cloud compu ting environments such as Infrastructure as a Service or virtualized data centers. We address four main concerns with existing benchmarks that make systems testing difficult, limited, and inaccurate. These concerns are scalability, modern technologies, flexibility, and client realism. Scalability: Cloud Computing environments al low on demand resource provisioning [1]. As such, C MART is designed to elastically scale at each tier of the application. It also includes a de ployment server and scaling API to emulate a Cloud computing environment in a local data center. Existing benchmarks are difficult or impossible to elastically scale. Modern Technologies: Current web applications utilize technologies such as AJAX, CSS, SQLite, HTML5, and have multimedia rich interfaces. Ex isting benchmarks do not utilize all of these fea tures, reducing the variability in their resource utilizations, response times, and simplifying their management. We include these technologies so that C MART emulates a modern application. Flexibility: C MART is designed with multiple implementations of each tier. This allows a SUT to be validated under different architectures. C MART can run as a two tier system up to a six tier system. Existing benchmarks have only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I find it fascinating that people around the world have so many different ways to interact with each other. The way they speak, greet, think, eat, behave and generally live varies vastly depending on the region they reside, and the culture they embody. That being said, when one of my mom s Egyptian friends invited us for tea at her place I was more than excited to attend, mainly to get an inside look on a little bit of Egyptian culture. The tea party was scheduled to begin at 7, but naturally my mom and I were half an hour late. The funny thing is, despite our tardiness we were some of the first people there. This was one of the first things I realized was a big difference: while Americans are monochromic, Egyptians definitely belong to the polychromic category. It wasn t until around 8 that everyone else showed up, and the hosts were perfectly fine with and expected people to be late. When we arrived the host greeted us with hugs and lots of kisses. Egyptian greetings are a lot longer than what most people are accustomed to. There is this constant unprofessed confusion in the Arab world on whether you kiss two or three times when greeting someone, and I can testify that Egyptians kiss about four times. They also ask a lot of questions while greeting. How have you been? What are you up to? How s school? How s your family? I haven t seen you in so long! I hope you re doing well. Gimpel in Gimpel the Fool by Isaac Bashevis Singer is, contrary to what the title implies, not a fool because of his morals, his faith in God, and his unshakable faith in humanity and human goodness. Gimpel considers himself a self induced fool, so to speak. He is totally aware of the fact that the townspeople mock and play jokes on him he almost encourages them to do so. But this, and the fact that Gimpel is so conscious of how the townspeople all peg him as the town idiot, is exactly what makes him the opposite of a fool. Singer gave Gimpel the ability to be a wise fool. Although oxymoronic, a wise fool is the perfect description for Gimpel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But despite the whole world seeming to be against him, his faith in God and His powers remains unwavering and true. In the beginning of the story, writer Daniel Fraustino notes that Gimpel is able to weather [the townspeople s] humiliation through his simple faith in God and the Bible. It is hard to believe that anyone could withstand such faith in any higher power with all the trickery that Gimpel is forced to face, but he perseveres. When Elka, Gimpel s wife, births a child only 4 months into their marriage, Gimpel is skeptical of whether or not the child could be his. He tells her, You have borne a bastard (280). Gimpel continues to be unconvinced, To tell the plain truth, I didn t believe her (281), until he speaks with the school master and he told [Gimpel] that the very same thing had happened to Adam and Eve (281). Later on, Gimpel catches his wife sleeping with another man beside her. Instead of confronting Elka about the man, he goes to the rabbi. When the rabbi does not permit Gimpel to see Elka or their child, Gimpel begins to regret saying anything at all, so he resolves to fix everything. In the morning I went to the rabbi and told him ... Student s Name Instructor s Name CHEM 202 Date of Submission Biochemistry Laboratory Experiment: Enzyme Kinetics Abstract The aim of the study is two fold: to study the rate of absorbance with increasing concentration of glucose, and to measure the activity of enzyme yeast invertase on sucrose. In task 1, the product formation was measured using 3, 5 dinitrosalicyclic acid that reacts with glucose leading to a change in colour from yellow to reddish brown. In task 2, the enzyme kinetics of yeast invertase on sucrose was studied. The absorbance values of the corresponding volumes of the solutions were measured using a spectrophotometer. Michaelis Menten curve and Lineweaver Burk Plot were made in order to estimate the values of Vmax and Km ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discussion Using Michaelis formula Vmax can be obtained as follows: VO=VMax ((substrate concentration)/(subtrate concentration +km)) Vo=absorbence/min for example, 0.018/5min =0.0036/min. From Figure 4, the maximum velocity is the highest point on the curve and the constant (km) is ½ the maximum velocity. However, it is difficult to estimate Vmax using Michaelis Menten curve with precision since the limits of the hyperbolic curve deviate at varying concentrations of the substrate. The data can be linearized using Lineweaver Burk Plot to obtain Vmax and Km as follows: Slope=Km/V_max From Figure 5, Vmax = 0.0172 and Km = 0.3144. At ½ Vmax (Figure 4), the rate of reaction increases steadily with an increase in substrate concentration. At this point, the rate of product formation is partially limited by substrate availability. As the curve approaches Vmax, the enzyme catalyzed saturation increases. In effect, the enzyme activity increases the rate of product formation up to a point whereby the reaction rate remains constant as more substrate is added (saturation). ... A series of images with no words but contains an argument is a pictorial essay. John Berger s Ways of Seeing (1972) contains both word and pictorial essays. The book is divided into seven sections, three being pictorials. In the very first chapter of the book, Berger made it clear that the way one image follows another, their succession, constructs an argument which becomes irreversible. Having noted that, it would seem that the sixth essay argues that an observation painting provides more information than that of a directed or arranged portrait. The information that we unconsciously get from images such as Johann Zoffany s Charles, Third Duke of Richmond and Sale of Pictures and Slaves in the Rotunda, New Orleans, is the time period which it may have occurred in and what kind of lifestyle both parties are living in. There is also action and movement in the image and what could possibly be the century it was painted in. In contrast, Mademoiselle de Clermont shows the viewers that the artist is more focused on the subject because she is looking directly at the artist. There is also no sense of communication between the servants in the image with her; this does not show any information except for the status difference between the any three women. If there were some sort of communication between the women, there possibly would be more information that the viewer can take such what kind of relationship the women have with each other as well as the personality of each women. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what our Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President of the United States is the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what Americans can and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more complicated relationship than what others might say. The resulting uranium mass was composed of both the projectile and the target going from a subcritical state to a critical state which, in turn, caused the chain reaction to begin. There are restrictions we should consider as we pursue happiness because we can t be going around breaking the law or hurting people. I also think that we should allow ourselves to experience more than just happiness, for example, anger, grief, fear, love and so on. He takes as a starting point Adam Smith s skepticism, but he is much more toward the relationship between morality and capitalism. He launched a point of view which later generated controversy. He asserts that only people have responsibility. A corporation is an artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibility, but business as a whole cannot be said to have responsibilities. The only responsibility of companies is to get involved in economic activities designed to make profit, any expense incurred for social and moral reason affecting this fundamental goal, such as any extra expense to support some communities or to protect and restore the environment, will result in decreasing the profitability and, in the end, everyone will have something to lose. The member of a corporation, their position such as a stakeholder can undertake moral responsibilities, but as individual, not as representatives of the corporation. According to Friedman, there must not be any connection between business and ethic is that a corporation is a legal entity, not a person, and morality is a distinct attribute, belonging to human being. She wanted to kill herself because Dixon was not being with her or treating her like she wanted to be treated. It is like when kids feel that are better than any other kids or people. Being entitled is something it seems that does not happen to him. Eventually it does though he has a girl that is one of the biggest things that makes him feel good at first. Then seeing his girl being obsessed with him makes him alil uncomfortable. He makes a move that gets a little away from her. Which yes she pretends to commit suicide to get the attention. That is why he does not break up with her feeling bad for her. Though people just feel bad for her of the way she acts. He is a poor guy that struggles in his job well trying to keep his job. Gets frustrated really quick has a bad mood sometimes. Those in the field during the 1960 s and 1970 s were predominantly occupied with psychodynamic, behavioural and humanistic approaches (Corey, 2009). Theories attached to these forms of therapy emphasized the autonomy of the individual, and the capacity to engage in free, independent choice. In therapeutic settings, much of the discussion would also typically be focused on cause and effect , in other words; seeking an explanation for why a person was thinking, feeling or behaving in a particular manner. Less attention would be focused on the context of the individuals experience, and the matter of how a situation came to be as it is (Bowen, 1972). This idea however is central to what would later become the practice of family and systemic therapies. Family therapy advocates using practices that specifically address historical, contextual and constitutional factors, including working with all members of the extended family and wider social network as well as coaching people to manage their constraints within their unit (Carr, 2012). Systemic therapy has its roots in family systems theory, which was pioneered by Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist who originally practiced within the psychoanalytic model, but later shifted his focus to the role of family dynamics and dimensions of the family as a system during ... • 36. Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love, the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book. Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most unspeakable way. Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet. Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack. Jack Wilson; like a dog with ... • 37. Revenge In The Cask Of Amontillado Edgar Allan Poe is an American author famously known for short stories of mystery and horror. One of the many short stories that Edgar Allan Poe is known for is The Cask of Amontillado. This short story is about Montressor s seek of revenge to Fortunato who had hurt him a thousand times and learned that Fortunato laughed at his proud name, Montressor, the name of an old and honored family (Poe). Montressor devises a plan of revenge by using Fortunato s great weakness; he liked to drink good wine, indeed he drank much of it (Poe). In Critical Companion to Edgar Allan Poe: A Literary Reference to His Life and Work by Dawn B. Sova, views the significance of the conflict between the Roman Catholic Montressor and the Mason Fortunato as one of the Church defending against it enemies (42). While Sova defines it as political and religious conflict as the root for revenge, I believe that this is just a conflict between two rich men of great arrogance who had their feelings hurt and wanted to use family power for revenge because two people of a political and religious conflict does not simply go into each other s house and start drinking together. Montressor continues to express his care and insist that they should go back. He explains to Fortunato that he will be ill, and cannot be responsible (Poe). This verbal irony describes Montressor s view towards revenge of not only punish but punish with impunity because he wants to have his murderous revenge without any consequences. Fortunato foolishly replies: Enough, The cough s a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough. True true, I replied; and indeed, I had no intentions of alarming you unnecessarily but you should use all proper caution. (Poe) The readers know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Similarities Between Frankenstein And Rappaccini s Daughter Nature and Nurture in Frankenstein and Rappaccini s Daughter One of the most popular disputes in the history of philosophy regards whether nurture of a human being plays a more important role in the formation of its character than the genetic heritage that it bears. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. Such examples are Frankenstein by Marry Shelley and Rappaccini s Daughter , by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both authors use innocence as a common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certain rumors spread into town characterize her as a highly educated young woman. We find evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to have instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she is already qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she confesses later in the story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is involved in; actually, she is only familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883). She practically knows as much as a child of small age would; her education also lacks any form of interaction experience with the society. Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as her only companion of life. Her reason for isolation is related to her father s overprotective attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers, making her immune to them, but also transforming her into a source of poison. Beatrice is aware of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly isolated from the rest of the world by her father. The deadly attribute Beatrice possesses places a social safeguarding wall around her. The similarity between the monster s isolation and Beatrice s isolation is thus obvious.
