1950s vs Today
Ashley Simon
Mrs. Teri Hevener
English 111
March 8, 2014 Society today and Society in the 1950 s
In the past sixty years are country has seen overwhelming change. Some change has been for the best,
while much has been for the worse. We ve seen amazing advancements in technology and made huge
strides in the health field. Unfortunately we ve also lost a lot of common sense and have a lack of
morals and dignity. In the 1950 s family s usually stayed together. Today a very big percentage of
marriages end in divorce. In the fifties families ate dinner around the table together. Today people
have such busy, hectic schedules that family meals are rare and often eaten in front of the TV. In the
fifties jobs were easy to come by. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the fifties before internet, people lives were far less controlled by the media though. People formed
opinions from life experiences, lessons they learned in the real world, and values they were taught.
Today the mass media to often shapes people s opinions, especially vulnerable children and young
people. It tells us how we should look, how to be cool , what s right and wrong, even how to think.
The 1950s people used common sense and were rational. Today it s all about being politically correct
and over analyzing everything. In the 1950s s people had high morals, values, and the line between
right and wrong was thin. Today we live in a culture where everything goes, morals are scoffed at, and
the line between right and wrong is always becoming more blurred.
The society of today and the society of the 1950s might as well be two different planets. We ve made
some important steps forward and improved certain areas life. While there were negatives in the 50s
such as segregation and lack of understanding in the medical field, I think there is a lot we can learn
from the fifties and what made it such a great time in our

Effects Of British Imperialism On India
Colonization has this persuasive effect on indigenous people that are in lower rank cultures. The
indigenous people start to show denigration, or belittlement towards themselves. Then, they begin to
show signs of self hatred among themselves. A masquerade of sorts hides the repression that the
colonizers place against the indigenous people, the abuse of power by the colonizers, and the unfair
treatment for work purposes towards the indigenous people. The original effect of Britain in India was
one of an advertisement project, in such terms. This advertisement project was mainly the British East
India Company. The British East India Company was a commerce organization. It had been a part of
India since the beginning years of the 17 century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until 1813, the British never interfered with the Indian culture. At the point that the British began to
change their culture, they significantly changed so much about the Indian culture. It did not matter
whether it was art, books or anything else in that region of topic. It all changed in some form
gradually. They also were a key part in the gradual removal of the caste system. The caste system was
removed because the Indians were introduced to new ideas. Also, the British saw many things that the
Indians did as evil. So they ceased most of their practices such as female infanticide and burning a
widow with her dead cousin. One of the most significant changes in practices is the stoppage of
slavery. Another is the stoppage of child sacrifices by individual

Measure Success In Relation To An American Society
How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really definitive. I
would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some, success can simply
mean, being the best at something. To others, success is measured on some sort of accomplishment
(for example: getting honours in school or receiving a promotion). Everyday, we search through the
web and news stations, looking to see who made it and set our goals to either meet or go farther than
them. We praise those who are successful and usually disregard those who aren t. Our parents always
want the best for us; they want us to one day be on covers of magazines and news articles to show
others how great their children are. Some parents

Ego Vs Ego
In modern society, the influences of ego have been increasingly important for people to address
because the degree of ego determines people s individual and social development. This essay focuses
on the negative influences of high level of ego, which is egotism. It is defined as high level of
selfishness. In the meantime, the discussion of ego and superego is also introduced. Ego is defined as
the true self of personality that makes people look for pleasure and selfish goals while superego refers
to the part which makes people seek for morality and consciousness. Superego is formed in early life
by parental education and can help people by stopping egotism. Egotism influences people s
aggressive behaviors, restrict people s well rounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result of this is that they cannot judge or think about this world from an objective point of view.
Egotism can blind people and prevent people in different ways, such as personal development. An
online article on the website of GoodNewsNetwork confirmed why egotism can blind people: the ego
mind isn t contributing to humanity and isn t able to look at the world as a whole. It s only able to look
at a fragmented piece of the whole that it identifies as Me (GoodNewsNetwork 9). So, egotism must
be removed or we will not really be able to reflect on ourselves nor think about other things properly.
Holiday explained the urgency of removing ego: Ego is the enemy of what you want and of what you
have. It repulses advantages and opportunities. It s a magnet for enemies and errors (Holiday 150). If a
person only let the egotism lead himself, he will only take care of himself regardless of other people s
feelings because he will only react to his own emotions and principles for pleasure. This leads to the
third harmful influence of social disconnection. Human s personality is divided into ego and super ego
(Simply Psychology 5). If a person just let the ego rule himself, he will only take care of himself
regardless of thinking about other people s feelings. This can break down his

Analysis Of Community Media
This dissertation takes a step forward from prior research projects that conducted surveys to gauge a
person s willingness to comment or submit UGC through the use of content analysis in an attempt to
gauge how much UGC community newspaper websites actually publish. In addition, the survey of
community newspapers website managers offered some context to what choices might occur behind
the scenes including the percentage of content submitted by the audience community media actually
publishes. The expectation was that the percentage of UGC published would be high based past
research that community media would make the gatekeeping choice to use UGC as a way of
interacting with the public (Rennie, 2007). However, the results indicated that ... Show more content

In addition, the survey results pointed toward a lack of interest among those managing community
journalism websites in engaging in any form gatewatching. For example, the survey respondents
suggested through their survey responses that they considered it unimportant to help guide their
audience to other reliable sources. The focus for community media seems heavily focused on print.
The web appears to be less a concern to community newspaper website managers. However, print
does have a seemingly limited future with the millennial generation (Meyer, Speakman Garud, 2016),
and the audience is moving online (Abernathy, 2014). Community journalism as both a business and a
public service should determine a manner to survive online while making a profit. There is research
suggesting that young people age into subscribing to print, however, those numbers have been steeply
declining among all age groups (Pew, 2016), and Poindexter (2012) predicts that millennials are
unlikely to resemble past media habits of increasingly reading print as they become older. The role of
community media More community news publications have the ability to take advantage of the
additional capabilities of the web for telling stories as a manner of drawing a new and different
audience to supplement existing print subscribers. The boundaries between print, broadcast, and
online journalism erode online, and the audience appropriated a more

Temperatures In Arctics
Due to rising temperatures, the ice is beginning to melt. Because of this, the sea levels are rising. As of
now, the temperature in the Arctic have risen two to three times than the global average of 57.2
degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius). According to climate researchers from the Alfred Wegener
Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), stated that from the planets history,
summertime sea ice was to be found in the central Arctic in periods characterized by higher global
temperatures but less CO2 than today. Also, the researchers studied the glacial history of central
Arctic. From this, they drew the conclusion that the last interglacial was about 115,000 and 130,000
years ago. Thanks to the sediment

Validity And Credibility Of Research In A Profession
Research is vital for the development of sound policy decisions within any profession. The research
process provides an opportunity to gain new knowledge and a broader understanding of issues through
the collecting, analyzing and the evaluating data. Congress realized there was little data available to
determine the nation s problem with crime or the criminal justice efforts to deal with these issues.
(President Crime Commission Report, 1967). The National Institute of Law Enforcement and
Criminal Justice (NILECJ), a federal agency, created to sponsor criminal justice research.

A researcher must protect participants from potential harms of embarrassment, distress, loss of
employment and damage to one s financial standing. Guidelines should be designed to minimize
information about research subjects and should be removed or destroyed as soon as possible. If there
is a need to collect identifying data the Institution Review Board will ensure there are necessary
precautions to maintain confidentiality. Researchers must be mindful that privacy is about people and
confidentiality is about data. Consequently, privacy is in the eye of the participant (Office of Research
Report, 2015). According to Wolfgang, researchers have been known to catalog their data to avoid
recording the names of participants and victims or other identifying information about specific crimes
unless it is absolutely vital to research. Files maintained without these details are less useful to law

Moon Landings Essay I think the moon landing was real because evidence that I have found makes
me believe that it was real . One thing that makes me believe it was real is that the U.S was in a race
with another country of who would make it to the moon first and Why? would the fake going to the
moon because I know as a competitive person I wouldn t want to lose and I wouldn t fake it because I
would embarrass myself and look dumb and also embarrass my entire country . My opinion is I think
it s real because when Apollo 11 launched countries all over the globe tracked them to the moon and if

the only rock they took back to earth to study .

You Just Don T Understand By Deborah Tannen
Communication is a continual balancing act, juggling the conflicting needs for intimacy and
independence says Tannen(27). For some couples finding that certain weight that will balance the
scale of communication can become interesting and a hard task. In the book You Just Don t
Understand, written by Deborah Tannen, she gives many examples of how men and women compete
for a gender hierarchy, in which she believes that males and females compete for status in society. She
often believed that guys look down upon women, and do not care about what they think. So by
competing for a hierarchy, women and men almost challenge one another for social and professional
status. It s almost a game in which there isn t really a winner, but that ... Show more content on

When Tannen was talking about asymmetry, she was trying to say that men and women were trying to
relate and overtake the other in the ladder of hierarchy. Women and men often compete in society for
status and a sense of belonging to their peers and society around them. Tannen does a good job of
explaining these specific parts of communication. Basically Tannen says, Women and men have
different ways of talking. Even with the best intentions, trying to settle the problem through talk can
only make things worse if it is ways of talking that is causing trouble in the first place. (Tannen 79) In
a sense Tannen is trying to say that obviously men and women have different ways of communicating,
and if they are having problems and are trying to settle them through communication, that might not
be the best way. If men and women have different ways of communicating, then communicating to
each other about their conversational problems, then that s only going to cause a bigger problem. For
example, a man might trying to present himself more knowing than the woman, and might look down
up on her, or the woman might do the same, and then that conversation will just go back to competing
for hierarchy status, where one is just trying to be better than the other.
Men and woman find themselves gossiping to each other s peers, as a sense of connection and
belonging. Gossiping is a way of establishing a friendship connection or a sense of status in

Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour
Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest
that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can
only go so far in explaining individual decision making.
A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach,
which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738)
was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and
Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a
rational decision process. Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1947) explicitly outlined the ... Show more

In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse
and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would
choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not
without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of
reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence
suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People,
groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions
are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational
(where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory).
In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and
Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different
perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make
decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information
is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility
gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations

The islands of Japan are really just the tops of undersea mountains and volcanoes. About only 20% of
land is flat, and most of that land already has people living there. The Japanese people didn t have a
written language, until they learned the Chinese language. Seafood, was and is a main part of life due
to living surrounded by the sea. Japan had different cast or societies. Life for the Emperor, Shogun,
daimyo, Samurai, and peasants were all different; it was hard for some and easy for others. The
emperor s life was fairly easy and simple. The emperor appeared at ceremonies, celebrations, and
parades, but had no real control over the people. All the emperor had to do was care for his family and

The Four Noble Truths
Life sometimes has a way of making one feel they have lived an unfilled life with regrets and
insecurities if they don t focus and pay close attention. As far as Buddha was concerned he had
managed to somehow find the key to teach about the breakthrough of his enlightenment he had come
to know through his quest. As he began to teach there were few people there, but that was not a
problem, no matter how many are there, if one believes and follows, you may have saved someone.
Buddha stood before them with what was his first formal discourse after his awakening, which was the
declaration of the key discoveries that had come to him as the climax of his six year ... Show more

They seem to be restful and if they are not achieving at their highest level earning large amounts of
money they seem to be miserable. And the desires (tanha) of their hearts are not to please their wives,
children, families, it is to achieve something they feel they are missing and they are clawing their way
to the top for their own personal desire and ambition. This is why suffering sometimes happen because
we want more or something better than what we already have and that lead to disappointment and
grief. Buddha disagreed with the course of treatment from the eightfold path was a treatment by
training. He spoke of how people train for sporting events or their professions, but they did not did not
know they could train for life itself. There were two ways of living Buddha mentioned that coincided
with the eightfold path that happiness could be sought and won if practiced. Author George Bernard

Theory of Successful Aging
Theory Of Successful Aging
INTERNAL CRITICISM
Adequacy: The Flood s Theory of Successful Aging (Flood, 2005) was developed to addresses a
nursing theory for care of the older adult regarding to the lack of nursing theory that offers clearly
delineated guidelines for care of aging. Flood s(2002) unique definition of successful aging among
other explanations includes mental, physical, and spiritual elements of the aging person and
emphasizing the individual s self appraisal. She used existing knowledge derived deductively from the
Roy adaptation model, one of the most widely accepted nursing theory model, and integrated these
ideas with Tornstam s sociological theory of gerotranscendence and literature related to the concept of
successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These concepts can be understood without lengthy descriptions and explanations. In this study, the
author employed a variation of deductive reformulation, a process involving the derivation of existing
knowledge from a non nursing theory integrated with knowledge obtained deductively from a nursing
conceptual model which would allow for a more logical presentation of how the components relate to
each other. Moreover, the model is exhibited in this paper is an elucidate of the theory s components
structure and would present the interrelationship of its components. The theory is parsimonious in that
it is clear and concise in explanations of the concepts (Bredow, 2009, p. 55).
Discrimination: The scientific process of deductive reformulation lends credibility and sound logic to
Flood s theory of successful aging. Flood, founder who is an advanced practice registered nurse, used
deductive reformulation to develop her theory of successful aging in nursing discipline. Without any
other useful theory of aging to guide nursing care, Flood s (2005) theory offers promise for nursing.
This theory provides a useful framework for interventions that target the mental, physical, and
spiritual health of aging persons. It would be able to produce hypotheses that will lead to research
results in older adult nursing research. However, there is no evidence of a nursing research using this
theory.

Comparison of Paintings of Irene and St Sebastian
The subject of this painting is Irene pulling an arrow from the body of St. Sebastian. Each figure in the
painting looks to contribute to a different part of a healing process; Saint Sebastian s body conveys the
idea of being sick or dying. His hands are tied up with rope, which gives the idea that he was injured
by the shadowy figures in the background and left for dead. Irene is kneeling to the right wearing the
red clothe and is being assisted by a servant is helping him by pulling an arrow from the saint s leg.
Life is being restored to Saint Sebastian, which is depicted by the two angels fly overhead, the crown
being held by the angels may suggest him becoming a saint for sacrificing himself for a belief. The
figures in the foreground take up most of the painting and are telling most of the stories happening.
Only a little of the figures in the background are being shown, but these figures are being directed to
by circular shape in the middle of the frame, that is showing an important connection to the
foreground. Most of the lines in the painting run horizontal and cross each other to drag the viewer s
eyes around the frame. The body of Saint Sebastian intersects the arm of the woman, also the direction
of the heads in the foreground creates implied lines that connect bring the viewer back and forth
across the painting. The in this painting like most of this era use lines help to convey motion. The uses
of foreshortening added not only depth to the painting but

Does Memory Decline With Age
Does Memory Decline with Age Once you reach a certain point in your life how do you just forgot? Is
there a certain point in your life where your memory is affected? The common question going around
is does your memory decline with age. One reason this is important because it will affect all of us. We
will all get old and this can greatly affect our health. The research can show how our older age will
affect our memory. Human memory loss is an effect that we all will have to deal with. Numerous
studies show age related decline in episodic memory. (Naveh Benjamin and Kilb, 2014) The initial
research done has shown that indeed your memory will decrease. There are many reasoning for why
this happens but one of the main points refers to associative memory. One of the explanations for ...

Selective memory retrieval is research to try and recall events that occurred in your past life. In their
studies, they used sixty four participants between the age of (20 35) for the younger generation and for

initial test between the young and older ages was unsuccessful. Since, this experiment didn t go as
planned they came up with a new process. That process being to have a much wider group is

Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique
What is Romanticism? That question is one of the hardest to answer because there are multiple
answers to it and they are all different. It is easy to define something as romantic when listening to a
piece, but when asked what it is, then that becomes the tricky part. Also, Romanticism isn t just in
music. It is in a variety of facets in the arts and in culture, for example poetry and literature. It is a
much broader topic than we realize. An attempt in define it will be difficult, but overall doable task to
accomplish. Personally, when I think of Romanticism, my mind immediately goes to Berlioz and his
symphonie fantastique. Berlioz is one of the first examples of early Romantic music. His symphonie

The emotions need to be as organic and real as much as possible. Using lyrics, it forces the listener to
give specific emotions to a piece. For example, a sad song isn t necessarily sad, unless you feel the

already feel the sadness without needing help or plunging yourself into the music. Hoffman mentions
that music should take to another world that is non existent, where you are fully submersed in it,
leaving behind all defined emotions. Hoffman also mentions how Beethoven does this with his later
pieces. He states that Can there be any work of Beethoven s that confirms all this to a higher degree
than his indescribably profound, magnificent symphony in C minor? How this wonderful composition,
in a climax that climbs on and on, leads the listener imperiously forward into the spirit world of the
infinite! (Hoffman 4). This shows that the music should send you another place that exists outside the

II. METHODOLOGY
The methodology that we have used in this study is as follows.During the course, students are
evaluated by means of a multiple choice testing that is an effective assessment technique. Before the
final exam date, all students are requested to self grade. Students propose the mark/grade that they
think they should get for the course. Then, the instructor accepts or declines the proposed mark of
each student as the final mark for the course. This way, only students whose score was declined by the
instructor will have to sit the final exam. Finally, we try to predict the instructor s decision of
accepting or declining the score proposed by students.
We have used two different (initial and new) data mining approaches (see Figure 1).
Figure 1. Approaches for predicting instructor s decision.
The initial approach uses three numerical variables: the scoreobtained by students in the course s
activities, the proposed scores by students and the difference between these two previous scores.
Then, it applies traditional classification algorithms for predicting the instructor s decision about
whether to accept the proposed students scores (YES) or not (NO). The new approach uses the three
previous variables as well as a self evaluation questionnaire as another source of information. Then, it
applies cost sensitive classification [2] that is normally used for obtaining

Qualitative Strategies
I will explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and
different. In qualitative strategies, there is a focus on data collection, analysis and writing (p. 176). In
qualitative strategies usually may fall in line with survey designs and experiments. The strategies
followed the same general format such as purpose, data collection, data analysis and conclusion. The
differences between the two for methods and procedures is the following: for quantitative methods
they tend to be used in a pretest and posttest control group designs. This is done by following six steps
which include administering measures of the dependent variable, assign the participants to pairs,
randomly assign members to the control group or experimental group, expose the experimental group,

Comparing The Matrix Film And Skepticism

Skepticism
01/07/2018
Skepticism is something which the early philosophers such as Rene Descartes and George Berkeley
addressed, and still, the issue of reality has remained debated for centuries by philosophers
(Schmerheim, 2015). This paper discusses the topic of whether the Matrix film is more like Descartes
evil deceiver or otherwise like the Berkeley s God by analyzing the philosophy with regards to the
Matrix film. The Matrix is a 1999 film that is significantly founded on the question of what is reality
and Berkeley and Descartes, on the other hand, perceived the world as having two different versions
of the truth. This paper will thus discuss the philosophy of Descartes and Berkeley concerning the
concept of reality and then provide supporting evidence how the Matrix film is a reflection of their
ideas.
The Matrix film describes a world in which the reality that is perceived by humans. The Matrix which
is a reality that is established by malevolent machines. The machines then overcome and appease the
humans so that the devices can get a source of energy from their electrical activity and bodies heat
(Schmerheim, 2015). In this film, Keanu Reeves plays a role as a computer programmer lives a double
life as a hacker known as Neo. Neo receives cryptic messages on the monitor of his computer after
which he begins searching for the person behind the messages called Morpheus. After finding

Diamond Peak Research Paper
If you have played Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, then Diamond Peak may be a free to play game
you would want to invest some time in. Here, you will take the role of a new guy in town which has a
strong sense of community, filled with industrious people who wouldn t give any second thoughts to
help you out. It s a point and click game, much like Farmville, but has outstanding RPG elements,
especially when you re out there to interact with the locals. It s a decent game, but its tutorial and its
freemium elements need to be improved.
Diamond Peak is a small town that is thriving and flourishing, thanks to the numerous farm lands, and
of course, the diamond ores lying about. When you re dropped into the game s world, you will

Performing them is a must to clear quests handed out by the town s residents. Of course, you ll be
receiving rewards, like experience, gold, and resources whenever you accomplish them. These can be
accessed through your quest log on the upper left corner of the screen, and if you re having trouble,
there s a help feature which can direct you to the area of the map wherein you can perform the task.
One of the worst aspects of the game is you re unable to travel to new locations unless you finish a
truckload of tasks the NPCs are asking you to do.
Diamond Peak s controls are simple: it uses a point and click mechanic. Want to move to another area
on the map? Click on the desired spot. Furthermore, the user interface is intuitive: everything you
need is there, and navigating around the shops, your friends farmsteads, and on the other elements is
pretty simple.
In terms of graphics, presentation and art style, Diamond Peak is further ahead in most aspects. It
follows an art style which resembles old American art, while the graphics are pretty decent in today s
standards. Moreover, the drawings presented in the loading screens are pretty amusing, with animals,

Importance Of Education In Education
EDUCATION VALUES IN RURAL SOCIETY
Dr. Fachrurazi, MM

ABSTRACT: The importance of planting local and religious cultural values in education is an effort to
anticipate the rate of modernization characterized by sophistication in the field of communication,
information, and transportation technologies bringing the countries of the world into the global

Why Do You Think Trophies Aren T For Everyone Essay
Naibeth Ayungua
Revision Assistant #1
Trophies aren t for Everyone
(An analysis of, if trophies should be given to everyone )
Society has shifted in the way competition has worked, and will continue to change its beliefs in how
we should treat competition in young people. Is it really necessary that every participant should
receive a trophy? Or should only those that accomplished the goal, earn one? In today s youth
activities, it has become an American tradition, to award all those that participate in the activity,
whether they win or not. This is perhaps a decision that many have faced, but in reality it will teach
the children about life. Because life isn t always fair, and there s nothing more atrocious than giving a
child a trophy for everything they do.
So now the question, Should kids get a trophy for participation? All in all, I oppose to the fact that
kids should earn a trophy for participating. For example, take the coach of a soccer team, he should
honor his team with treats after a well played season, but not trophies. Trophies are a sign of
accomplishment, and if a child gave the coach a terrible attitude, then they shouldn t deserve one. It is
as well as a little excessive. If you continue to give your child trophies for ... Show more content on

The main focus should be to learn how to play sports, how to listen to a coach and be part of a team.
That in fact is very true. Sports are important, but one will not always have them in life. Being a loser
isn t always necessary a bad thing. If you are given a trophy for everything you do, you will not learn
how it feels to lose. Losing makes people want to improve in what they aren t successful in. This
therefore is a motivator in what they want to be fortunate in and continue to strive in

Theme Of Autonomy In The Decameron
Autonomy
Boccaccio s Decameron is a revolutionary text not only because of its irreverent attitude toward
courtly love, but also due to its portrayal of female autonomy, not something that was necessarily
common in the fourteenth century. Not only did women in The Decameron initiate their own
relationships and seek out sexual pleasure, many of them also refused to submit to men, and some
even went as far as to commit suicide rather than lose control of their own bodies.
The female characters in the stories of The Decameron were not content to wait around until their
fathers or brothers decided on a sufficiently rich and noble husband for them to marry: they
shouldered this burden themselves. Ghismonda and Caterina both went behind their fathers backs to
find lovers: Ghismonda sent Guiscardo a letter indicating her interest and informing him how they
could meet, and Caterina promised Ricciardo, If you are daring enough to climb the balcony, I am
quite sure that I can arrange to sleep there (Boccaccio 292, 394). Andreuola canceled her date with
Gabriotto after her bad dream, while Simona told her father she was going to the pardoning at San
Gallo when in reality she had planned a rendezvous with Pasquino (IV.6, IV.7). Even the married
women in these stories took it on themselves to seek out sexual pleasure: Mrs. Roussillon initiated her
affair with Guillaume de Cabestanh, and Pietro s wife Mrs. di Vinciolo recruited her friend to send
young men her way (V.10). This

Criminal Behavior Theories Paper
This week our focus is on theories of criminal behavior and why people choose the behavior they do.
According to (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2012), there are three main criminal behavior theories; Labeling
theory, Conflict theory and the Radical theory. Each theory outlines different perspectives on why an
individual engages in criminal activity along with the public s reaction.
The first theory is the Labeling theory which was first contemplated by Charles Horton Cooley,
William I. Thomas, and George Herbert Mead around 1918. It is one of the most important approaches
to understanding criminal behavior. It basically theorizes that no one act is inherently criminal, but it
is merely the interaction and relationship between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example may be that some children engage in activities such as breaking windows, stealing fruit
from other people s trees, climbing into other people s yards, or playing hooky from school. In upscale
neighborhoods, these acts may be looked at by parents, teachers, and police as innocent aspects of the
process of growing up. In poor areas, on the other hand, these same activities might be seen as
tendencies towards juvenile delinquency, which suggests that differences of class and race play an
important role in the process of assigning labels of criminal activity (Adler et al., 2012).
Next we look at the Conflict theory. Conflict theory states that tensions and conflicts arise when
resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these
conflicts become the reason for social change. In this context, power can be understood as control of
material resources and accumulated wealth, control of politics and the institutions that make up
society, and one s social status relative to

Speech On Chewing Gum
You know how gum commercials always boast that their product can give you a fresher, cleaner
mouth, well, that s not entirely a lie. But is chewing gum good for your teeth? When we eat, little bits
of food get stuck between our teeth or behind those permanent retainers that a lot of people have these
days. If that food gets to hang out long enough, it will become a breeding ground for bacteria. That
bacteria can lead to cavities and infections, and really, isn t an infection in the main hole in your face
that s pretty close to your brain about the last thing you want?

If chewing gums are good for the teeth, they will be only the sugar free ones, or those in which the
sugar is completely replaced by sweeteners (xylitol, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Complete the brushing with a mouthwash once a day.
Use a fluoride toothpaste.
Change your toothbrush when the bristles begin to curve and at least once every three months.
Rinse mouth with a glass of water after a snack (which is also recommended).
Make an appointment to the dentist every year for a minimum scaling.
Should we force ourselves into chewing gum?
No need to force yourself to chew gum if you also follow the other good oral hygiene instructions and
if you do not nibble between meals. You should also consider some side effects like gasifying.
Sweeteners ferment in the digestive system and can promote the production of gases that cause
flatulence.
The simple act of chewing increases the amount of air swallowed, and therefore promotes the belching
gas.
The best thing is to test the gum after lunch and see if there is any gasifying problems before deciding
whether or not to adopt this complementary oral hygiene habit.
Conclusion:
So is chewing gum good for your teeth? The answer would be YES. But only if the chewing gum is
sugar free or contain sweeteners such as Xylitol and combined with good oral hygiene habits. I talk
here about teeth brushing and

Analysis And Interpretation Of Blood Evidence Left Behind...
Bloodstain pattern analysis is the examination and interpretation of blood evidence left behind at a
crime scene. It is based on the principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion and
capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) according to National
Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) guide. The analyst is tasked with classifying the type of
bloodstain and assisting in reconstructing the events leading up to the act that caused the bloodshed.
This is accomplished by examining the size, shape, distribution and location of the bloodstains. There
are several different types of patterns, and spatter from the bloodstains can be found on multiple
surfaces in many different forms.
My focus is on blood spatter which is a common bloodstain that occurs when a blood source is met
with a certain level of force or impact. Origin and trajectory are crucial, complex components in
painting a picture of what happened. In Richard Safferstein s text (2011), Criminalistics: An
Introduction to Forensic Science, he explains that interpreting bloodstains can yield the following
information:
The direction from which blood originated
The angle at which a blood droplet struck a surface
The location or position of a victim at the time a bloody wound was inflicted
The movement of a bleeding individual at the crime scene
The minimum number of blows hat struck a bleeding victim
The approximate location of an individual

Malcolm X Struggles
Malcolm X
One of the greatest screen biographies, is celebrating an excursion of an American life, beginning in
sorrow and bottoming out on the streets and imprisoned before its hero rejuvenated himself. After
watching the film, I understood the power that we have to change our own lives, how fate doesn t deal
all of the cards. Its hero was born Malcolm little a young African American boy.
He was victimized by violence. His father was murdered, probably by the KKK, which had earlier
burned down the family house. His mother was unable to support her children, so Malcom was sent to
a foster home. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from ambitious career
choices. White teachers told him that, as a Negro, he should look for jobs where he could work with
his hands. One of his early jobs was as a Pullman porter, then in Harlem he became a numbers runner

To understand the stages of Malcolm s life is to walk for a time in an African Americans shoes, and to
glimpse where the journey might lead. Denzel Washington stands at the center of the film, in a
performance of enormous coverage. He never seems to be trying for an effect, and yet he is always
convincing. Holding audiences spellbound on street corners, churches, television and at Harvard.
Washington is a congenial, attractive actor, and so it is especially effective to see how he shows the
anger in Malcolm, the unbending dogmatic side. This movie strongly reminds me of Martin Luther
King movies. It reminds me of this because in movies about Martin Luther King life they mostly only
show Kings good part in his life. While watching the Malcolm X movie I learn that Malcolm X is
more on the fighting side of things to get equal rights. When King was fighting equal rights he was in

What Is The Theme Of The Weep Fig
This essay is an analysis of The Weeping fig written by Judith Wright in 1972 and was published in A
Look Down Under by futurum and edited by Dunn Thorborg in 1985.
The story revolves around the Australian outback and Mr. Condon s quest for something unknown.
The story of The Weeping Fig is about Mr. Condon, who finds a notebook, between his deceased
father s things. The notebook describes the life of Mr. Condon s great grandfather Stephen Condon s
life in the outback. Mr. Condon decides to visit the farm, written about in the notebook. Here he ends
up meeting Mrs. Hasting.
Mrs. Hasting is the owner of the cattle farm together with her husband, and she isn t described as the
most pleasant person, actually far from. This come to show, when Mr. Condon tries to explain why he
has decided to visit them, he began to explain. You see, this place but she was not interested in his

She talks about how she is disappointed about living in the outback because she loves the city life and
if she had known she would end on the cattle farm when she married her husband, she would not have
done it. She seems very bitter about living there. Mrs. Hasting explains the reason for her
disappointment with the outback.

Disrespectful Character Maturity In John Updike s A P
In John Updike s coming of age story A P, the protagonist Sammy sees what he believes to be an
unfair act to three teenage girls in bikini in the grocery store. He makes an immature decision and
quits in front of his manager that decided to address the girls about their clothing choice in front of the
entire grocery store, instead of talking to them in private. Unfortunately, the teenage girls do not notice
Sammy s heroic act, and he is left alone in the parking lot to face the repercussions of his childish
actions. John Updike chooses to write in first person, so the reader gets to know the narrator s real

technologies are making higher education more accessible and less unique. Friedman initiates his
essay with the example of a Harvard professor, Michael Sandel, obtaining celebrity status worldwide

In the essay, Friedman makes an effort to compose his arguments in a professional and reasonable

where technologies make accessing information and using detailed analysis, Friedman reveals the
necessity of revolutionizing universities. Because of the world values what you know more than how
you know it , that university education seems less efficient in preparing their students ready for the job
market and the dimensions beyond the campus. The detailed and rigorous analysis in this piece is one
of the key reasons why it is highly persuasive. Friedman expands on the idea of MOOC s revolution
and reasons that under the new competency based environment, the vivacious course load of post

1. What were the four main questions facing peacemakers in 1865? a. The aftermath of the war was
crucial due to the fact that the south and north were totally separated during the civil war, but more
importantly was that all the fighting had ben done in the south, which meant that the majority of the
damage was done in the southern towns. This caused the towns and fields to be ruined, and many
properties worthless. So many peacemakers wanted to assure the southerners possessions. b. Secondly

that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865,
Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former
confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be

were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in
the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation
outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under
this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the
effects of the Black Codes? a. The purpose of the black codes was to keep black people from voting.
The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using
race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War

How Parchman Reflects The Intertwined Themes Of Reform And...
Analyzing how Parchman reflects the intertwined themes of reform and race, we must look back into
the history of the state, to see what caused the instability that led to reform and the role that citizens
played. The Civil War is just ending and the South lost not only did they lose the battle , but they also
lost their family members, homes, land and most of all for some they lost their slaves. During the war
Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves in territories that
opposed the Union. Oshinsky paints a beautiful picture of the scenes that had unfolded when he wrote
that, Few could escape the consequences of this war. Mississippi was bankrupt. Its commerce and
transportation had collapsed. The railroads and levees lay in ruins. Local governments barely
functioned. (p.12) The world that many white southerners had come to know was now destroyed.
Being placed under these conditions, outraged many white southerners. Adding fuel to the fire, the
fact of knowing that former slaves were now equal to even the poorest of whites, did not set well. The
author states that, this hatred had many sources. The ex slave had become a scapegoat for the South s
humiliating defeat. John F.H. Claiborne, Mississippi s most prominent historian, blamed him for
causing the war and for helping the North to prevail. ( Oshinsky, 1996, p. 14) Carl Schdrz, a reformer
from the North, became very concerned about how blacks would be treated, with rising sense of

  • 2. 1950s vs Today Ashley Simon Mrs. Teri Hevener English 111 March 8, 2014 Society today and Society in the 1950 s In the past sixty years are country has seen overwhelming change. Some change has been for the best, while much has been for the worse. We ve seen amazing advancements in technology and made huge strides in the health field. Unfortunately we ve also lost a lot of common sense and have a lack of morals and dignity. In the 1950 s family s usually stayed together. Today a very big percentage of marriages end in divorce. In the fifties families ate dinner around the table together. Today people have such busy, hectic schedules that family meals are rare and often eaten in front of the TV. In the fifties jobs were easy to come by. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the fifties before internet, people lives were far less controlled by the media though. People formed opinions from life experiences, lessons they learned in the real world, and values they were taught. Today the mass media to often shapes people s opinions, especially vulnerable children and young people. It tells us how we should look, how to be cool , what s right and wrong, even how to think. The 1950s people used common sense and were rational. Today it s all about being politically correct and over analyzing everything. In the 1950s s people had high morals, values, and the line between right and wrong was thin. Today we live in a culture where everything goes, morals are scoffed at, and the line between right and wrong is always becoming more blurred. The society of today and the society of the 1950s might as well be two different planets. We ve made some important steps forward and improved certain areas life. While there were negatives in the 50s such as segregation and lack of understanding in the medical field, I think there is a lot we can learn from the fifties and what made it such a great time in our ... • 3. Effects Of British Imperialism On India Colonization has this persuasive effect on indigenous people that are in lower rank cultures. The indigenous people start to show denigration, or belittlement towards themselves. Then, they begin to show signs of self hatred among themselves. A masquerade of sorts hides the repression that the colonizers place against the indigenous people, the abuse of power by the colonizers, and the unfair treatment for work purposes towards the indigenous people. The original effect of Britain in India was one of an advertisement project, in such terms. This advertisement project was mainly the British East India Company. The British East India Company was a commerce organization. It had been a part of India since the beginning years of the 17 century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until 1813, the British never interfered with the Indian culture. At the point that the British began to change their culture, they significantly changed so much about the Indian culture. It did not matter whether it was art, books or anything else in that region of topic. It all changed in some form gradually. They also were a key part in the gradual removal of the caste system. The caste system was removed because the Indians were introduced to new ideas. Also, the British saw many things that the Indians did as evil. So they ceased most of their practices such as female infanticide and burning a widow with her dead cousin. One of the most significant changes in practices is the stoppage of slavery. • 4. Measure Success In Relation To An American Society How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really definitive. I would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some, success can simply mean, being the best at something. To others, success is measured on some sort of accomplishment (for example: getting honours in school or receiving a promotion). Everyday, we search through the web and news stations, looking to see who made it and set our goals to either meet or go farther than them. We praise those who are successful and usually disregard those who aren t. Our parents always want the best for us; they want us to one day be on covers of magazines and news articles to show others how great their children are. Some parents ... This essay focuses on the negative influences of high level of ego, which is egotism. It is defined as high level of selfishness. In the meantime, the discussion of ego and superego is also introduced. Ego is defined as the true self of personality that makes people look for pleasure and selfish goals while superego refers to the part which makes people seek for morality and consciousness. Egotism can blind people and prevent people in different ways, such as personal development. An online article on the website of GoodNewsNetwork confirmed why egotism can blind people: the ego mind isn t contributing to humanity and isn t able to look at the world as a whole. It s only able to look at a fragmented piece of the whole that it identifies as Me (GoodNewsNetwork 9). So, egotism must be removed or we will not really be able to reflect on ourselves nor think about other things properly. Holiday explained the urgency of removing ego: Ego is the enemy of what you want and of what you have. It repulses advantages and opportunities. It s a magnet for enemies and errors (Holiday 150). If a person only let the egotism lead himself, he will only take care of himself regardless of other people s feelings because he will only react to his own emotions and principles for pleasure. The focus for community media seems heavily focused on print. The web appears to be less a concern to community newspaper website managers. However, print does have a seemingly limited future with the millennial generation (Meyer, Speakman Garud, 2016), and the audience is moving online (Abernathy, 2014). Community journalism as both a business and a public service should determine a manner to survive online while making a profit. There is research suggesting that young people age into subscribing to print, however, those numbers have been steeply declining among all age groups (Pew, 2016), and Poindexter (2012) predicts that millennials are unlikely to resemble past media habits of increasingly reading print as they become older. For some couples finding that certain weight that will balance the scale of communication can become interesting and a hard task. In the book You Just Don t Understand, written by Deborah Tannen, she gives many examples of how men and women compete for a gender hierarchy, in which she believes that males and females compete for status in society. She often believed that guys look down upon women, and do not care about what they think. Women and men often compete in society for status and a sense of belonging to their peers and society around them. Tannen does a good job of explaining these specific parts of communication. Basically Tannen says, Women and men have different ways of talking. Even with the best intentions, trying to settle the problem through talk can only make things worse if it is ways of talking that is causing trouble in the first place. (Tannen 79) In a sense Tannen is trying to say that obviously men and women have different ways of communicating, and if they are having problems and are trying to settle them through communication, that might not be the best way. If men and women have different ways of communicating, then communicating to each other about their conversational problems, then that s only going to cause a bigger problem. For example, a man might trying to present himself more knowing than the woman, and might look down up on her, or the woman might do the same, and then that conversation will just go back to competing for hierarchy status, where one is just trying to be better than the other. Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can only go so far in explaining individual decision making. A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach, which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738) was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a rational decision process. In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People, groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational (where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory). In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To realize that Afghanistan wasn t always in the condition as it is in modern times, it was important to me in realizing that Afghanistan was a much different place prior to the conflicts taking hold during the 1970s and beyond. My unit was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom(OEF) at the beginning of 2010. Most people assume that military units immediately deploy to these countries. • 30. Theme Of Autonomy In The Decameron Autonomy Boccaccio s Decameron is a revolutionary text not only because of its irreverent attitude toward courtly love, but also due to its portrayal of female autonomy, not something that was necessarily common in the fourteenth century. Not only did women in The Decameron initiate their own relationships and seek out sexual pleasure, many of them also refused to submit to men, and some even went as far as to commit suicide rather than lose control of their own bodies. The female characters in the stories of The Decameron were not content to wait around until their fathers or brothers decided on a sufficiently rich and noble husband for them to marry: they shouldered this burden themselves. Ghismonda and Caterina both went behind their fathers backs to find lovers: Ghismonda sent Guiscardo a letter indicating her interest and informing him how they could meet, and Caterina promised Ricciardo, If you are daring enough to climb the balcony, I am quite sure that I can arrange to sleep there (Boccaccio 292, 394). Andreuola canceled her date with Gabriotto after her bad dream, while Simona told her father she was going to the pardoning at San Gallo when in reality she had planned a rendezvous with Pasquino (IV.6, IV.7). Even the married women in these stories took it on themselves to seek out sexual pleasure: Mrs. Roussillon initiated her affair with Guillaume de Cabestanh, and Pietro s wife Mrs. di Vinciolo recruited her friend to send young men her way (V.10). • 31. Criminal Behavior Theories Paper This week our focus is on theories of criminal behavior and why people choose the behavior they do. According to (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2012), there are three main criminal behavior theories; Labeling theory, Conflict theory and the Radical theory. Each theory outlines different perspectives on why an individual engages in criminal activity along with the public s reaction. The first theory is the Labeling theory which was first contemplated by Charles Horton Cooley, William I. Thomas, and George Herbert Mead around 1918. It is one of the most important approaches to understanding criminal behavior. It basically theorizes that no one act is inherently criminal, but it is merely the interaction and relationship between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example may be that some children engage in activities such as breaking windows, stealing fruit from other people s trees, climbing into other people s yards, or playing hooky from school. In upscale neighborhoods, these acts may be looked at by parents, teachers, and police as innocent aspects of the process of growing up. In poor areas, on the other hand, these same activities might be seen as tendencies towards juvenile delinquency, which suggests that differences of class and race play an important role in the process of assigning labels of criminal activity (Adler et al., 2012). Next we look at the Conflict theory. Conflict theory states that tensions and conflicts arise when resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these conflicts become the reason for social change. In this context, power can be understood as control of material resources and accumulated wealth, control of politics and the institutions that make up society, and one s social status relative to ... • 32. Speech On Chewing Gum You know how gum commercials always boast that their product can give you a fresher, cleaner mouth, well, that s not entirely a lie. But is chewing gum good for your teeth? When we eat, little bits of food get stuck between our teeth or behind those permanent retainers that a lot of people have these days. If that food gets to hang out long enough, it will become a breeding ground for bacteria. That bacteria can lead to cavities and infections, and really, isn t an infection in the main hole in your face that s pretty close to your brain about the last thing you want? No need to force yourself to chew gum if you also follow the other good oral hygiene instructions and if you do not nibble between meals. You should also consider some side effects like gasifying. Sweeteners ferment in the digestive system and can promote the production of gases that cause flatulence. The simple act of chewing increases the amount of air swallowed, and therefore promotes the belching gas. The best thing is to test the gum after lunch and see if there is any gasifying problems before deciding whether or not to adopt this complementary oral hygiene habit. • 34. Analysis And Interpretation Of Blood Evidence Left Behind... Bloodstain pattern analysis is the examination and interpretation of blood evidence left behind at a crime scene. It is based on the principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion and capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) according to National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) guide. The analyst is tasked with classifying the type of bloodstain and assisting in reconstructing the events leading up to the act that caused the bloodshed. This is accomplished by examining the size, shape, distribution and location of the bloodstains. There are several different types of patterns, and spatter from the bloodstains can be found on multiple surfaces in many different forms. My focus is on blood spatter which is a common bloodstain that occurs when a blood source is met with a certain level of force or impact. Origin and trajectory are crucial, complex components in painting a picture of what happened. In Richard Safferstein s text (2011), Criminalistics: An Introduction to Forensic Science, he explains that interpreting bloodstains can yield the following information: The direction from which blood originated The angle at which a blood droplet struck a surface The location or position of a victim at the time a bloody wound was inflicted The movement of a bleeding individual at the crime scene The minimum number of blows hat struck a bleeding victim The approximate location of an individual ... Malcolm X Struggles Malcolm X One of the greatest screen biographies, is celebrating an excursion of an American life, beginning in sorrow and bottoming out on the streets and imprisoned before its hero rejuvenated himself. After watching the film, I understood the power that we have to change our own lives, how fate doesn t deal all of the cards. Its hero was born Malcolm little a young African American boy. He was victimized by violence. His father was murdered, probably by the KKK, which had earlier burned down the family house. His mother was unable to support her children, so Malcom was sent to a foster home. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from ambitious career choices. White teachers told him that, as a Negro, he should look for jobs where he could work with his hands. Holding audiences spellbound on street corners, churches, television and at Harvard. Washington is a congenial, attractive actor, and so it is especially effective to see how he shows the anger in Malcolm, the unbending dogmatic side. This movie strongly reminds me of Martin Luther King movies. It reminds me of this because in movies about Martin Luther King life they mostly only show Kings good part in his life. The only people not included in this proclamation were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Analyzing how Parchman reflects the intertwined themes of reform and race, we must look back into the history of the state, to see what caused the instability that led to reform and the role that citizens played. The Civil War is just ending and the South lost not only did they lose the battle , but they also lost their family members, homes, land and most of all for some they lost their slaves. During the war Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves in territories that opposed the Union. Oshinsky paints a beautiful picture of the scenes that had unfolded when he wrote that, Few could escape the consequences of this war. Mississippi was bankrupt. Its commerce and transportation had collapsed. The railroads and levees lay in ruins. Local governments barely functioned. (p.12) The world that many white southerners had come to know was now destroyed. Being placed under these conditions, outraged many white southerners. Adding fuel to the fire, the fact of knowing that former slaves were now equal to even the poorest of whites, did not set well. The author states that, this hatred had many sources. The ex slave had become a scapegoat for the South s humiliating defeat. John F.H. Claiborne, Mississippi s most prominent historian, blamed him for causing the war and for helping the North to prevail.
