The Ethics Of Adoption
There are also various psychological issues that one is faced with while adopting a child which may
include situations in which the adoptive parents find themselves in a dilemma to permit the biological
parents to remain in contact with their adopted child as they might feel threatened that their son or
daughter may develop a stronger bond with his or her birth parents and decide to leave when they
become adults in order to live with them instead. The adopted child may also go through a plethora of
emotions over the years regarding his or her adoption. He or she may feel abandonment, isolation,
guilt, rejection towards their birth parents and may go through certain self identity issues. Thus extra
care and attentiveness is usually required ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The about to be parents may face situations wherein the surrogate mother may develop certain
maternal inklings towards the offspring due to the taxing process of surrogacy. As the surrogate
mother physically carries the baby throughout the pregnancy, she may get emotionally and physically
attached to the baby and find it difficult to detach herself from the child once he or she is born. There
maybe concerns related to the surrogate mother s involvement in the child s life as well. Surrogacy
may also have a psychological impact on the child itself. The child may get confused and face self

To Kill A Mockingbird Racism Quotes

Racism within To Kill a MockingBird There are many things cause by humans that can separate a
world and hurt very many people at one time. Anger or greed are some of the things we are all
fighting. However, neither of those come close to racism. The world s worst prejudice is racism, To
Kill a Mockingbird presented us with racism within their community and everyone was being hurt by
it. To Kill a Mockingbird was written during the depression when racism was unfortunately accepted.
This book shows how a family in a small southern town wanted it to stop. In every situation life
throws at us someone always disagrees. In Maycomb, there was a whole crowd. As read in this Novel
by Harper Lee, she shows that a community with differences always goes down as a whole. Racism
took a huge role in every little part of To Kill a Mockingbird. By far the worst victim was Tom
Robinson. Tom is the black man who plead guilty of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. Tom was
accused by Mayella s lying father Bob Ewell. Tom was brought to court and had a all white jury.
Atticus knows that Tom would never do such a thing and is completely innocent, and shows as much
evidence as he could. Even though all the evidence Atticus put on the table showed ... Show more

Some people were now understanding that racism is a sickness within the small southern town. The
people of Maycomb were slowly starting to understand that their town looked great to an outsider but
was uglier than a New York City rat on the inside. They were dividing all because of racism. Some
folks of Maycomb did not like it, but all the others accepted it as every other town did during the
depression. The black community had many different views from the folks in Maycomb. Some folks
changed theirs while others kept the same ugly view of it. All in all, the negroes were still trapped in

The Pros And Cons Of Classifications In Biology
Classification is a matter of categorizing various living things into different groups and therefore we
can distinguish diverse species. It is absolutely crucial and takes a huge role in our lives of human
beings, who are the most developed and intellectual animals on the planet earth. Classification
gradually led to a massive development of Science, especially Biology and eventually resulted in the
creation of new classification systems which we are pretty much aware of in the 21st century. If there
were no classifications towards the uncountable living things, the entire world would be in a definite
chaos because of approximately about 8.7 million different species (Richard Black, BBC) getting
categorized together as living things .

The Problem Of The Disabled People
I am exploring the disabled people are not discriminate against, and how they get respect from people.
People cannot ignore the problem of the disabled people because it is not only about the disabled
people, but also about people. The problem of the disabled people will influence the development of
the country, so it also influence people s life. Discriminating against the disabled people is not good
for the country s development. Nowadays, people more and more care about the disabled people
because when they watch a movie about the disabled people, the audience will think about the
problem of the disabled people in reality. In many countries, the policy and system for protecting the
disabled people are not perfect. In reality, people still see the disabled people homeless sleep in the
street, so it means that the government should make some policy to help the disabled people, and solve
the problem. The disabled people need people s respect because sometimes they are fragile and have
weak self confidence. If people do not look at the disabled people in the surprise and different way, the
disabled people will feel more comfortable. Elimination of discrimination will changes attitude of the
disabled people, so they will think in the positive way. At the same time, people should think about
how they treat the disabled people, what else they can do for the disabled people. Everyone knows that
the disabled people need help from society, but seldom people will exactly know how to

Anna Chandler Imagery
Imagery is used in various situations throughout the entire novel. Chandler uses it to give the
meticulously detailed settings and scenarios Anna experiences a more realistic feel. For example,
Chandler uses vivid and detailed descriptions of the visions Anna experiences with details depicting
all five senses as can be seen in the following exert. The vibrations stopped, and I stood up. I was
surrounded by darkness. In the distance an orange light shone. As I moved toward it, I heard a
confusion of voices, people talking and laughing. The orange light flickered, and I heard crackling

The purpose of SARS surveillance system includes, early detection and prompt identification of high
risk subjects, super spreaders and disease cases and clusters, without intense laboratory testing and
complete reporting of potential SARS CoV transmission and outbreak with contact tracing to contain
the disease and prevent the spread. Post epidemic, ongoing surveillance of SARS is useful in
preparedness for future outbreaks, due to potential sources of re emergence like animal reservoirs,
humans with persistent infection and laboratory exposures or development of novel coronavirus. [4]

the mechanism of daily cases of SARS summary for that country. This in turn was informed to WHO

Biological Macromolecules
John B. Fenn, Koichi Tanaka, and Kurt Wuthrich have come up with methods about biological
macromolecules. Their discoveries have made chemical biology a more important part of science
today. Chemists are now able to briskly analyze what proteins are inside a sample more accurately.
Scientists are now able to see the proteins and how they function inside a cell.
Chemists are seeking to learn about proteins and how they function not only together, but with other
molecules. They are studying the fluctuation of these structures. They are questioning how proteins
look when they merge with other proteins. The studies of how distinct proteins and other substances
act together in the cell is called proteomics. This field of research is new, and ... Show more content on

Determined by their charge and mass, they reach their targets . The ones that are lightest and have the
highest charge are the ones that are the fastest. There are two propositions for why proteins transform
into the gas phase without losing their structure and form. In John B. Fenn s method, he sprays the
sample with a stable electrical field to make small, charged, freely lingering ions. In contrast, another
method uses a profound laser pulse. If done correctly under the appropriate conditions, the test
molecules will be released as free ions after taking up energy of the laser pulse. Koichi Tanaka, an
engineer in Japan, reported a contrasting approach for the first critical stage. This person demonstrated
that the protein molecules could be ionized using SLD. Dissimilar to the spray method, in a solid or
viscous phase the laser pulse hits the sample. The principle is primitive today for vigorous laser
desorption methods. Biochemical analyses were impossible a few years ago. To distinguish the signal

Kant s Philosophy Of The State And Analysis Of Historical...
Compromised largely in Kant s ideas, Hegel s systemic philosophy of the State and analysis of
historical summit of the body politic provides the foundation of Marxism and alike. Hegel declares the
concept of state as superior to the individual. In his book Philosophy of History, he establishes Reason
as the rational manifestation of world history which subsists in both natural and spiritual realms; But
the Spirit, and the course of its development, is the substance of history (20). Reason as the core of
Spirit is the self contained existence of itself as that which is free and autonomous. Thus the Idea is
that world history is Spirit attempting to find its own nature. Hence, the union and harmony of the

Hegel presents the State as the epitome of individual freedom in a set of institutions, just like Christ is
represented as the epitome of God in Christian history. The more a State is free, insofar it is rational
and the highest form of Spirit, the closer it is to the State itself. Marx critiques Hegel s conception of
the State in his book Capital as standing on its head (302). He refutes the claim that the state sustains
civil society; rather, Marx stresses, it is the most natural interdependent bond of the family and civil
society which are the necessary essence of the state. His assertion that ...the ideal is nothing else than
the material world reflected by the human mind, and translated into forms of thought (301)
reestablishes Hegel s idealist approach. The state is incapable of maintaining itself without social
consciousness produced by production, which Marx takes to be the legal, political, and intellectual
structure of society. Hence it is the economic life of free mankind in civil society which manifests the
state. Democracy is the only true harmony of the particular and the general. Marx explains that In
democracy, the constitution, the law, the state itself, insofar as it is a political constitution, is only the
self determination of the people, and a particular content of the people (21). Marx explains that until
now the political constitution has been the religious

The Coward s way A Sound of Thunder (Ray Bradbury) and The Lottery (Shirley Jackson) are both
connected through a specific quality that characters in both stories contain. That quality is the inability
to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels, Travis, and the
townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their life, blindly
following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis are both
cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories are connected
by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put under pressure by not
a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds people. Traditions can have
many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are simply a terrible decision.
However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into going along with this
horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad decision. Fear can cause denial,
which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of turning tail and running from her
fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The
Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her

Pretty Close
Our reasoning behind how we determined supplier engagement, set production levels, and allocated
capacity among the suppliers were based on several aspects. We decided to choose one international
supplier as well as one domestic supplier. This was due to the fact that we wanted to balance out lead
times and unit costs. We chose Far Far Away because it had a $1 million set up cost, and the
production costs were lower as well. We choose Pretty Close due to the zero month lead time, and the
$1 million set up cost. We choose the suppliers with the smaller set up costs due to the fact that we
paid $2 million for the creation of the industry conference, and we wanted to be more conservative in
the first couple of years. During the last two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The average demand and standard deviation were taken into effect in the first few years. From what
we learned in class, averages with smaller standard deviations were more accurate so this led us to
adjust our production levels accordingly. Model A had smaller standard deviations so we didn t steer
far from using that average, but Model B s standard deviations were larger so we had to be more
careful with the production levels we chose. Towards the later years, we also factored in the news
stories and trends that developed in the previous years and adjusted the levels accordingly. The
allocation of capacity among our suppliers was mainly due to the lead times and unit costs. We placed
a larger order with Far Far Away in January because the lead time was four months and we would
have received it by the time the sales season started in May. The unit costs were also cheaper which
meant we could order more. We placed a smaller order with Pretty Close in April due to the zero
month lead time, and the unit cost was more expensive. In the last two years we decided to adjust the
order capacity for each model depending on if we overstocked or understocked in the previous year.
We ordered less of the product from Pretty Close so we could have more capacity to order more or
less if need be after we ordered the production

Elizabeth Wurtzel s Prozac Nation
Pick a man, any man. Every guy I fall for becomes Jesus Christ within the first twenty four hours of
our relationship. (175) Sometimes when people go through a hardship, such as depression or another
serious mental illness, they tend to see people as salvation from their pain. In Elizabeth Wurtzel s
autobiography, Prozac Nation, she tends to do this in many of her relationships, to escape her
depression. But through many taxing years of failed attempts, she is the one saves herself. Wurtzel is
one of the many who view love as a sort of detox, a way to replenish your soul and save you. But,
Elizabeth Wurtzel in her novel Prozac Nation, argues through her own trial and error, that love can not
save you.
Wurtzel s first real attempt at salvation is Zachary. She described their relationship as With Zachary

protective coating that everything going down with my parents stopped bothering me. (98) All through

Effective Use Of Imagery In Marianne Moore s Poetry
In Poetry , Marianne Moore explains that it is not that she does not like poetry, but it is the idea that
poetry is simply not the same anymore. Poetry conveys ingenuity and candid ideas; it should be used
to express one s authentic thoughts and feelings. Moore connects the use of imagery to expound on the
interpretation that people do not appreciate or like what they do not understand. The poem purposely
has no true structure, as it is written in free form with no rhyme scheme or pattern. Moore shows her
frustration with the addressed autocrats of literature and displays that by using an ironic tone in the
composition of the poem. Through Moore s use of imagery, she highlights people s lack of originality
and perspective. In the line Hands that can grasp, eyes that can dilate, hair that can rise if it must, these
things are important not because a high sounding interpretation can be put upon them but because they
are useful... (Moore 6), the speaker is stating one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem has a natural flow, exemplifying that poetry does not have to abide by a set of rules. People
are used to thinking they must follow the cliché guidelines that poetry must rhyme, have a pattern, or a
hidden meaning, and that simply is not true. The unrestrained arrangement of the poem connects with
one of Moore s concluding lines, ...the raw material of poetry in all its rawness... (44). The speaker s
use of enjambment represents the flow of her thoughts in the poem. Every word continued over the
line break has its own emphasis. For example, there are only two periods in the poem, one in the first
stanza and one at the very end. The period is placed in the quote, ...one discovers after it all, a place
for the genuine. , which puts emphasis on the word genuine. Moore uses this to officially open the
readers mind to genuine poetry, as after that point she provides justifications as to what makes it
genuine with the

To believe or not to believe that is the question....
To believe or not to believe that is the question. Robertson Davies depicts a novel in which two
opposing characters strive for self completion. The journey of completing one s self is one of Jung s
archetypes. According to Jung, completing both the body and soul lies within the characteristics of the
psyche. The psyche is composed of three parts: the collective unconscious, ego and the personal
unconscious. The collective unconscious is what people come into this world knowing, how children
are shaped as adults through their childhood experiences and parental influences. The ego is the image
people believe they are. It is this image which people pursue through the rest of their lives until they

he decides to leave his father. He was going to be a very rich man richer than his father by far and he

The American Colonial Past in the Republic of the Marshall Islands
The most telling evidence in mapping out the U.S. geopolitical obligations to the RMI is the fact that,
in the span of a decade, beginning in 1946, the U.S. tested around seventy nuclear weapons in the
Marshall Islands. Stuart Kirsch, professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan and research

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson can be related. Each story is
about traveling into nature and experiencing a whole a new life. Both articles can reflect on one
another and there is an occult relation between man and the vegetable. Montag s journey into nature
emulates the one depicted by Emerson because they are both similar. Montag is traveling and

Steven Spielberg Essay
Steven Spielberg
As a kid in Phoenix, Steven Spielberg charged admission to his home movies while his sister sold
popcorn. Although Spielberg excelled at making movies he was not a good student. He hated school
and was one of the most unathletic students there. His movie making career began at the age of twelve
when his father bought a movie camera that Spielberg used all the time. Instead of doing his school
work he was using the camera. While he was working with his mom and sister on his projects, his

Encounters, and made even more money), Spielberg created an action adventure picture based on the
old continuing stories, better known as serials, that they both loved as kids. Called Raiders of the Lost
Ark and detailing the adventures of an archaeologist named Indiana Jones, it earned him another Best

A year later, Spielberg surpassed not only himself but Lucas s Star

Drug Law
1) An explanation will be made of the current legislation relating to the sale and possession of illicit
drugs. A discussion will then be carried out incorporating two of the moral issues associated with these
activities. Firstly, to what extent the laws relating to illicit drug use should promote good moral
behaviour and discourage immoral or harmful behaviour. Secondly, whether an individual should have
the liberty of choice to partake in drug related activities.
The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (MoDA) governs the sale and possession of illicit drugs in the United
Kingdom. This legislation was implemented following the signing of the Single Convention on
Narcotic Drugs 1961. The convention was established by the United Nations (UN) with the intention
to restrict the number of drug related offences. The MoDA 1971 classifies the offences on possession
and supply of drugs. The classification system places ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, could placing legal restrictions on the choice of engaging in such activities be seen as
an infringement of this liberty. Furthermore, to what extent should the law control an individual s
personal choice? These questions raise a similar response to what was established in the Hart Devlin
debate, which is, a principle of the law is to prevent harm arising to others. For that reason, it could be
argued that provided an individual s actions do not evoke harm on others, their choices should remain
without legal interference. However, the law principally endeavours to protect individuals from
harming others. The law can therefore justify limiting liberty of choice and individual freedom,
provided their actions would result in evoking harm to others. Cited OU (2016a 2). What often gets

Prisoners Should Not Be Allowed For Research Essay
There have been questions about the morals and ethics behind prisoner research for a long time. Laws
were even made to restrict and prevent research on prisoners. An example of such laws is the
Nuremburg code which was made because of inhumane research being conducted in concentration
camps during WWII. Prisoners are now considered a vulnerable population and research is extremely
restricted because of this. Prisoners shouldn t be allowed to participate in scientific research because
they can be manipulated, it can be dangerous, and they aren t educated/smart enough to comprehend
the tests being conducted. There are laws to allow only safe research but dangerous research still
occurs anyways. For example in Pennsylvania Prisoners Were Human Guinea Pigs in Army Mind
Drug Test it says, 320 prisoners were injected with varying doses of 16 drugs in secret chemical
warfare experiments (Epstien 1). Different substances that are used in chemical warfare were tested on
prisoners which is clearly a dangerous test to perform where casualties would be expected. This was
secret research performed by the military and was comparable to the research that was performed on
Jews in the concentration camps such as Auschwitz. Another example of dangerous research is, he
used radioactive materials, hallucinogenic drugs, and carcinogenic materials on prisoners (Urbina ...

Beating the Competition and Sustaining in the Modern Hotel...
The capital of the world is in 23 different places this was the tagline used by the General Electric
Company when it expanded its business in 1995. It is very valid for India as well. India is emerging as
one of the leading economies of the world and the rate of growth in every sector of the economy is
immense. The hotel industry is very sensitive to economic cycles and is therefore intrinsically linked
to the state of the economy. At present, there are over 462 hotels in the country and the total number of
rooms is around 58612. Hotel room supply has increased in 2010 11 by 15% while the nationwide
occupancy has increased by 1.7%. Although the growth in supply is a double digit figure but the
growth in occupancy signals the fact there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a direct company customer contact based relationship. (Moores, 1986) This experience helps
hotels achieve distinction against competitors. But at the same time the communicated value
proposition of the brand has to be clear cut so that potential guests are able to identify the advantage of
a hotel in comparison to its competitors (Daun and Klinger, Delivering the message, 2006).Apart from
communication through words, pictures and logos should also be redesigned in order to make an
everlasting connection with the guest.
For hotel chains wanting to satisfy the needs of guests and beat the competition, then building a
psycho brand provides an opportunity which if realized, could do not only this but also defy the test of
time. (Mehta Gautam, December 17, 2003)
Perceptions of brands in the minds of the consumer are formed on the basis of the four main functions
of the brain thinking, sensation, intuition and feeling. Psycho branding is supported by three concepts
Goodyear s Model of Brand Evolution: Brands act as extensions of the personality. Incorporation of
personal characteristics into the brand makes it more appealing to guests.
Moment of Identity: The modern guest tries to match her own identity with the identity she relates to
the brand.
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs: It is the driving force for choosing any brand, the one which identifies
with self actualisation.

Epon The Celtic Goddess Of Horse
Epona is the Celtic goddess of horses, donkeys, and mules, but also the Goddess of dreams, fertility,
prosperity and abundance. Her name comes from the Gaulish language, where a denotes a feminine
ending, os is a masculine ending, and on denotes divinity. Epos means horse in Gaulish. Epa means
mare or female horse. So Eponas name literally translates ep on a, horse divinity and feminine. So she
is the horse goddess. She has been called the Great Mare or the Divine Mare. The mare is an ancient
symbol of fertility. While she is the protector of horses, donkeys, and mules, but she protects not only
the horses but their riders too. Epona is often depicted riding sidesaddle on a horse or seated between

In the traditional education environments, the duty of the students is to adhere the education activities
as a passive receiver and memorize the content of the lesson (Surmeli 2007: 30). PowerPoint
presentations create more powerful sensory alerts when compared with the traditional education
materials (blackboard, overhead projections, etc.)While giving the lessons with PowerPoint
presentations, the content of the lesson stays the same, but the form of transmitting the lesson to the
student changes. The PowerPoint presentations which are prepared for lessons have the advantages
such as having strong colors, gradual building of text, simple animation of diagrams, facilities for
simple editing and updating (Lowry 1999:19). Thus it can be mentioned that the PowerPoint
presentations provide significant time and force savings. As the popularity of the PowerPoint
presentations increase, the studies concerning the pedagogical results of the usage of this tool increase.
The advantages of giving lessons with the PowerPoint presentations could be generalized as follows in
the light of the academic studies till now: * PowerPoint contributes to properly forming the course

The History Of Modern Latin America
The history of modern Latin America begins after the Second World War when the economic changes
wrought by the war, namely the shift towards manufacturing and urbanization, produced political and
diplomatic changes across the Americas. The end of the war led to increased imports from the West,
reducing the competitiveness of Latin American industry. Additionally, falling crop prices led to
increasing urbanization. The result of these economic and demographic shifts was the rise of a
populist movement throughout Latin America. Populism in Latin America was characterized by a
combination of nationalism, often coded with the language of anti imperialism and anti Americanism,
and class politics. However, populism did not appeal solely to workers; rather, populist leaders
attempted to create broad coalitions of people who believed that Latin American countries needed
economic and political reform. The populists were generally opposed by the rural elite, which had
held power throughout Latin America since the age of colonialism. Additionally, many Latin
American leaders began to embrace dependencia theory; i.e. they believed that Latin America would
remain poor and under the control of Western business interests as long as Latin America remained
dependant on Western, specifically American, capital and imports. These leaders advocated Import
Substitution Industrialization (ISI), a form of industrialization in which a country would become self
sustaining by replacing

Patria By Julia Alvarez Summary
Julia Alvarez uses the interaction between Peña and Patria to express her thoughts that faith is more
powerful than the evil. In the interaction Patria is attempting to convince Peña to release her son
Nelson, she writes:
This devil might seem powerful, but finally I had a power stronger than his. So I used it. Loading up
my heart with prayer, I aimed it at the lost soul before me... Maybe because I was watching him so
closely a funny thing started to happen. See devil I was so used to disappeared. (216 217)

religion is a huge part of Patria s life. Patria praying shows that she has lots of faith and is seen as an

Women s Day Advertisement Of The Frog Prince
This Women s Day advertisement inspires Women to become the person they dream of being.
Alluding to the timeless fairy tale The Frog Prince with a toy frog wearing a crown, the ad plays on
youthful innocence. The classically magical tale recounts the events of a girl who is not suited for
royalty becoming a princess, which a majority of American and British women were exposed to in
their youth. Therefore, the frog is a happy reference to a time period that every woman has had or will
have where they relate to the girl in the story and feel capable of becoming a princess . Because fairy
tales never follow the prince or princess in the story after becoming such the responsibilities and life is
left to the interpretation of the reader. This promotes imagination in children and may nostalgically

The Controversy Over Internet Censorship
Thesis: There has been much debate about the commonwealth s and the Australian communications
and media authority s campaign to give the Internet censorship that is not required. For reasons such
as freedom to talk about ideas, to talking to people around the world. In china there are estimated to be
around 30 thousand police surfing the web, covering up websites the government does not want you
looking up. Things such as just searching up human rights will bring you to a page that says you
cannot access, and this is mainly the cause of communism.
Explaining my topic:
Today most people have the right to read whatever they want and also to write whatever they want, all
with little to no law enforcement. So why should the Internet be anything other? The Internet should

How Does Atwood Use Language In The Handmaids Tale
How does Atwood presents the importance of language in The Handmaid s Tale? Throughout the
novel, we see evidence of indoctrination in all of the characters. This indoctrination process appears to
be primarily carried out by Gilead s manipulation of language among its residents. Language is a
powerful tool in shaping our thoughts and how we behave; the control and exploitation of discourse in
the regime shows us not only this, but also how language can provide power as well as take it away.
Gilead s government relies heavily on language from the bible to help maintain its theocratic
dictatorship. It does this by taking religious quotes such as Give me children or else I die out of
context and bending the meaning to impose their ideologies. A quote that is made to be taken quite
literally in Gilead as the women are told it is their sole purpose to reproduce and if they do not they
are an unwoman a disturbing term which implies that in the eyes of Gilead, unless the women meet its
ideology, they are useless and their humanity is taken away from them. ... Show more content on

Pros And Cons Of Long-Term Franchise
Long Term Franchise (BOT or LDO)
Around the world, long term franchises for infrastructure facilities are usually referred to as BOT
projects, because under this type of contractual agreement the private sector builds, operates, and
eventually transfers to government the facility in question. When a lease of the underlying land is
involved, this type of arrangement is sometimes called Lease Develop Operate (LDO); in this case the
transfer back to government is implicit approach is widely used for several reasons. First, it taps into a
different pool of capital than is normally available for public infrastructure projects, thereby
expanding the range of potential funding sources. Second, private consortia are often able to design
and build large facilities in significantly less time than is possible via traditional government
procurement methods. Third, both the up front cost and the operating costs may be ... Show more

Fourth, BOT is a way of shifting many of the risks of project development from the public sector to
the private sector. For these reasons, airport BOT projects have proliferated in recent years. As of early
1994, there were 15 airport BOT terminal or runway projects under way worldwide, and another five
projects to develop entire new airports. In addition, another 18 such projects were under study. No
outright airport BOT project has yet occurred in the United States, but Transport Canada used this
process to develop the successful international terminal (Terminal 3) at Toronto (as will be discussed
in the next section). Many U.S. airports have used something resembling an LDO process to develop
new terminals sponsored by either one or a group of airlines, which gain exclusive control of the gates
in that terminal. But this type of project raises important competition and access issues that do not
arise when the developer/operator is an independent third party which relates to all airlines equally as
users (as is the case

You Can Use Meditation To Deepen Your Spirituality Essay
You can use meditation to deepen your spirituality. Very many practice it to have better health, both
physical and mental. But you can use it also to deepen your spirituality.
Deepening Your Spirituality
The origins of meditation have been mostly religious, especially religion as practiced in the
monasteries. Monks and nuns, both in Christian and non Christian groups, like Buddhism, are still the
ones who professedly practice meditation on a daily basis for long periods of time, even hours. Some
who have practiced it have experienced the beneficial effects this practice has brought to them and so
have encouraged to use this exercise to improve their physical and mental health.
But you can use meditation to also deepen your spirituality. By deepening your spirituality I mean that
you will have a broader grasp of spiritual realities. You may come to realize that it is not only human
persons who have a spiritual side to their nature but even the animals and plants have also a spiritual
dimension. At present this is not widely accepted because of the Aristotelian model most learned in
school that living things are made up only of matter and form, or body and soul. ... Show more content

McQuarrie and Mick, 1996) do not adequately capture important differentiations within the visual
domain. After developing and illustrating the typology, we suggest avenues for empirical
investigation, specifying the particular cognitive processes that we expect to be differentially affected
by different categories of visual rhetorical figures. Among the more important contributions of the
typology is its demonstration of how concepts from art theory, semiotics and kindred disciplines can
be linked to concepts drawn from social cognition in a manner susceptible to empirical study.
A typology of visual rhetorical figures
Defining visual rhetoric in ads
We follow McQuarrie and Mick (1996) in defining a rhetorical figure as an artful deviation in form
that adheres to an identifiable template. Thus, the headline Can t say no to pistachio is a rhetorical
figure because it deviates in its arrangement of sounds from an ordinary sentence. However, readers
do not consider this deviation to be an error because they have encountered this kind of repetition of
syllables many times and have learned to treat it as a rhyme. Similarly, when readers encounter the
verbal pun Why weight for success? in an ad for the Diet Center, they understand it as a play on a
word with two meanings (i.e. weight and wait ). Because the number of templates is limited and
because consumers encounter the same template over

Hegemonic Masculinity Analysis
Reserving the cultural power and importance of gaming for the male audience effectively forms a
gender hierarchy, which is the definition of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2005). This concept is a
theoretical perspective combining Gramsci s analysis of class relations with gender studies to illustrate
how gender can shape society. Connell defines hegemonic masculinity as a gender practice which
embodies the currently accepted answer to the problem of the legitimacy of patriarchy, which
guarantees (or is taken to guarantee) the dominant position of men and the subordination of women
(Connell, 2005, p. 77). Therefore, in the context of the videogames industry and the gaming press,
because men have always been, and continue to be perceived as, the dominant audience, they and not
women, will remain the principal group courted by these institutions, which effectively reinforces the
perception that gaming is a space owned by men where women are not ... Show more content on

The Racial Tension in the NFL
Author Peter S. Morris once said, If baseball is America s favorite pastime, then football must be its
passion (Morris, 2004). Throughout the years, the sport of football has risen through the ranks to
become the spectator sport in North America. Football has been interwoven into the American psyche
and culture. Millions of dedicated and loyal fans keenly await the chance to pack out stadiums at the
beginning of each National Football League (NFL) season. They stare into the dazzling field lights,
clothe themselves in paraphernalia, and wildly cheer on the players of their chosen team. Football has
become a part of the American life. The NFL embodies the fun in American society. It is seventeen
weeks filled with excitement, high spirits, and a competitive atmosphere. A piece of American society
that isn t so jubilant has been making serious headlines as of lately. These series of incidents have
been a Public Relations nightmare for the beloved league. The use of racial slurs both on the field and
off the field by NFL players is an issue that, until recently, was not openly discussed in the sport. The
number of incidents has gradually increased throughout the years. As a solution to this growing
problem, NFL committees have recently decided to impose a 15 yard penalty on any and all players
that use the racial slur Nigga(er) while playing the game. The racial tension in the NFL, the pros of the

The Four Quartets Poem Analysis
The four quartets
The Four Quartets, a combination of poems from 1935 to 1940. It was Eliot s last great work as a poet
and playwright. All four poems have a steady theme, time. In the four poems Burnt Norton, East
Coker, The Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding all relate to time. He states how it time can never move
fast enough but always to fast when he wants it move slower. He states this this theme in three totally
different settings. Burnt Norton is about air, East Coker being on land. And the Dry Salvages taking
place hypocritically in the water. But, T.S. Eliot uses beliefs, experiences, and circumstances to
convey the importance of time in all of these sections of the poem, The Four Quartets. To begin, his
experiences influenced his writing heavily in this poem. In the Dry Salvages, the fourth stanza is T.S
praying for the people who s occupation deals with the water. T.S refers bank to when he was a kid in
WW1 and prays for the women who had husbands in the Navy during that time. As if time could
never pass by quick enough. He writes Repeat a prayer also on behalf of Women who have seen their
sons and husbands. Setting forth, and not returning back. Figlia de tuo figlio, queen of heaven ( T.S.
Eliot). His experiences as a child heavily influenced that part of the poem and feeds the main theme of
how time can never seen to be on your side. Also a lot of writings include dark, shady, gloomy settings
in the Four Quartets. A lot of this was influenced by his physical

The Effects Of Illegal Immigrants On The United States
There are millions of illegal immigrants in the United States, as Markon (2016) argues that the
majority are from South and Central America, Europe, and Mexico. They form a population of
between 10 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. One of these illegal
is my father, who came to the U.S.A in 1996 to work and tried to pay the numerous debts that he got
in my country; in addition, my country had a large concern where there weren t jobs and several banks
had gone broke because of the change from Sucre to the dollar. At that time, my father thought the

James (1991) points out that illegal made various effects to be legal, such as creating fake documents
like Social Security or green cards, and faking marriage. All those affairs are called fraud, and they
can be deported directly without any opportunity to get a trial. Anti immigration supports comment
that the problem with undocumented immigrant workers is that flouting the law has become the norm.
(Miller, 2010).
Another reason why people support deportation is because some illegals come as criminals and cross
the border to damage the country. According to James (1991) says some of illegals cross the border to
bring drugs like cocaine, heroin, and marijuana, or do illicit things. The drugs, which a lot of
Americans consume, come from South America to Mexico. Where a drug dealer produces, then and
sends them to the U.S.A. In the 1990 s the maximum portion of the drugs came from Mexico, where
drug traffickers passed the drugs through the river that is between Mexico and the U.S.A (James,
1991). These acts have created the increase of crime and violence and have made it unsafe peacefully
to live for the citizens and for the life of the members of the Border Patrol by illegal border crossers
(James, 1991).
However, not all undocumented immigrants cause a harmful effect and

Essay about intelligence
Intelligence is the level of competence, ability to learn or to some people it is how well an individual
performs on an IQ test. The structure of intelligence is best subdivided into two significant categories.
They are environmental and hereditary influences.
Environmental differences can be divided into different factors. The deprivation model of social class
and intelligence consists of three variables. These variables explain, in terms of environmental factors,
development and performance which are correlated with social status.
The first of these variables consists of the combination of birth order, nutrition, and prenatal care.
Children who are first born, on average score better on mental tests. There is a definite higher number

Examples of this contribution are conceptualizations and symbolizations. An unwanted contribution
would be some situation where there are people with marital discord or if they are economically poor.
Another contribution, explained by Bijou, refers to the kinds of reinforcers in effect in cognitive
situations. An example of this contribution would be to use positive reinforcing contingencies. A
hampering situation would entail adults who use aversive, neutral or random stimulus contingencies.
The last of these contributions refers to the schedules of reinforcement. These contributions are
categorized by a high number of people who schedule contingencies of reinforcement in ways which
maintain the cognitive repertories acquired (230). Greenfield insists that people learn what they need
to accomplish a goal presented by the environment. The specification of a particular set of goals by the
environment not only determines whether learning (255). In an experiment done on children,
Werner and Kaplan found out that variable verbal and action contexts for a certain concept provide a
way of generalizing that particular concept by differentiating it from its context. Educationally this
provides a wide variety of action goals but even more important during the initial stage instead of the
later stages. This goal structure of the environment plays a most important role in early life and then

Analysis Of On Immunity An Inoculation By Eula Biss
In her book, On Immunity An Inoculation, Eula Biss takes the reader through the magical journey of
parenthood and the immense fear that comes with it. She provides insight into a pre and post birth
outlook on the world, specifically focusing on the controversial topic of vaccination. Her optimism of
the future and parenthood that she shares is quickly morphed into a world of germs and fear when her
son is born directly before the H1N1 pandemic of 2009. She is immediately plunged into the world of
vaccination fear mothers discuss what chemicals are in the new vaccine and weigh the risks vs
benefits of attempting to give their children a small dose of immortality. This introduces the books

Her constant use of tying metaphor to common perception allows the reader to dig deeper and
question their own and their communities psyche surrounding this subject. Biss is able to weave
together so many aspects of our society into a cohesive whole that explains the metaphor of immunity
vs. inoculation, self vs. nonself. For example, she is able to bring forward common current
controversial topics such as gender and racial equality and easily tie it into the main theme of the
book. For example: ...A 1912 definition of biological individuality as the quality of being rendered
non functional if cut in half, Donna Haraway observes that this requirement of indivisibility is
problematic for...women... Their personal, bounded individuality is compromised by their bodies
troubling talent for making other bodies... One of our functions, as women, is to be divided (125 126).
This unique perspective on a reason for sexism is related to back to the misconception in our society
that our bodies are independent of the environment around us. Thus, substantiating the misinformed
self vs. nonself idealogy.
Biss writes in depth on herd immunity, the concept that immunity and health/sickness of the individual
are dependent on the community. Thus, vaccination is an act done more for the health of the
community rather than the individual. Adversity toward vaccinations has always been balanced
between politics and ethics. People have historically resisted vaccination for the desire to remain pure
and/or govern their own body. This purity of the body, Biss suggests, stems from the wealthy
believing disease to only infect the dirty, the poor, the

At the start of this class, I did not think that I would learn as much as I did. Just last night my wife and
I were watching The Voice and someone was singing I ll Be There. I told her that was a song by The
Jackson 5. She disagreed with me and told me that Mariah Carey had sung that song. I looked it up
and we were both right. I went onto tell her that I was more right because The Jackson 5 sang it first.
It got me thinking about this class and how I catch myself thinking about the history of songs
whenever I hear them on the radio or in a movie.
When I first started reading, the chapters in the textbook I was confused about how and why certain
song are considered rock and roll. It is easy for me to understand why Led ... Show more content on

I can recall the exact place and what I was doing. That was an example of a good feeling, but it can
also bring back feelings that are not so joyous. It can remind you of the times in your life that you
wish you could go back to. It can make you feel sad that you will never be able to recreate those
memories again and would give anything to do so. That is what I love about music. It acts as a time
capsule for certain events that take place in your life.
During the 90s, rock and roll had several artists from decades past finding renewed success like Eric
Clapton, Santana, and Paul McCartney. Eric Clapton s Tears in Heaven, about the tragic death of his
son, became one of the biggest releases in the 1990s. Many bands from the 60s and 70s have enjoyed
success because of the classic rock stations. They have the opportunity to stay relevant and current.
The rock and roll genre will endure the test of time because of the musicians who are dedicated to
keep evolving it. There has been many evolutional changes to rock and roll throughout the years.
There has been blues based British rock, American blues rock and southern rock, progressive rock,
country rock, punk, heavy metal, indie, and alternative rock just to name a few. It is safe to say that
there will continue to be changes in the future. No one knows what those changes will be, but I am
excited to find out.
I know I am never going to have a career in music, but I

To Kill A Mockingbird Racism Quotes Kade Kloster Hodak ENglish 10 Period 7 Mrs.Guritz Racism within To Kill a MockingBird There are many things cause by humans that can separate a world and hurt very many people at one time. Anger or greed are some of the things we are all fighting. However, neither of those come close to racism. The world s worst prejudice is racism, To Kill a Mockingbird presented us with racism within their community and everyone was being hurt by it. To Kill a Mockingbird was written during the depression when racism was unfortunately accepted. This book shows how a family in a small southern town wanted it to stop. In every situation life throws at us someone always disagrees. In Maycomb, there was a whole crowd. As read in this Novel by Harper Lee, she shows that a community with differences always goes down as a whole. Racism took a huge role in every little part of To Kill a Mockingbird. By far the worst victim was Tom Robinson. Tom is the black man who plead guilty of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. Tom was accused by Mayella s lying father Bob Ewell. Tom was brought to court and had a all white jury. Atticus knows that Tom would never do such a thing and is completely innocent, and shows as much evidence as he could. It is absolutely crucial and takes a huge role in our lives of human beings, who are the most developed and intellectual animals on the planet earth. • 5. The Problem Of The Disabled People I am exploring the disabled people are not discriminate against, and how they get respect from people. People cannot ignore the problem of the disabled people because it is not only about the disabled people, but also about people. The problem of the disabled people will influence the development of the country, so it also influence people s life. Discriminating against the disabled people is not good for the country s development. Nowadays, people more and more care about the disabled people because when they watch a movie about the disabled people, the audience will think about the problem of the disabled people in reality. In many countries, the policy and system for protecting the disabled people are not perfect. In reality, people still see the disabled people homeless sleep in the street, so it means that the government should make some policy to help the disabled people, and solve the problem. The disabled people need people s respect because sometimes they are fragile and have weak self confidence. If people do not look at the disabled people in the surprise and different way, the disabled people will feel more comfortable. Elimination of discrimination will changes attitude of the disabled people, so they will think in the positive way. If done correctly under the appropriate conditions, the test molecules will be released as free ions after taking up energy of the laser pulse. Koichi Tanaka, an engineer in Japan, reported a contrasting approach for the first critical stage. This person demonstrated that the protein molecules could be ionized using SLD. Compromised largely in Kant s ideas, Hegel s systemic philosophy of the State and analysis of historical summit of the body politic provides the foundation of Marxism and alike. Hegel declares the concept of state as superior to the individual. In his book Philosophy of History, he establishes Reason as the rational manifestation of world history which subsists in both natural and spiritual realms; But the Spirit, and the course of its development, is the substance of history (20). Hegel presents the State as the epitome of individual freedom in a set of institutions, just like Christ is represented as the epitome of God in Christian history. The more a State is free, insofar it is rational and the highest form of Spirit, the closer it is to the State itself. Marx critiques Hegel s conception of the State in his book Capital as standing on its head (302). He refutes the claim that the state sustains civil society; rather, Marx stresses, it is the most natural interdependent bond of the family and civil society which are the necessary essence of the state. His assertion that ...the ideal is nothing else than the material world reflected by the human mind, and translated into forms of thought (301) reestablishes Hegel s idealist approach. The state is incapable of maintaining itself without social consciousness produced by production, which Marx takes to be the legal, political, and intellectual structure of society. Hence it is the economic life of free mankind in civil society which manifests the state. Democracy is the only true harmony of the particular and the general. Marx explains that In democracy, the constitution, the law, the state itself, insofar as it is a political constitution, is only the self determination of the people, and a particular content of the people (21). That quality is the inability to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels, Travis, and the townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their life, blindly following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis are both cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories are connected by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put under pressure by not a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds people. Traditions can have many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are simply a terrible decision. However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into going along with this horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad decision. Fear can cause denial, which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of turning tail and running from her fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We decided to choose one international supplier as well as one domestic supplier. This was due to the fact that we wanted to balance out lead times and unit costs. We chose Far Far Away because it had a $1 million set up cost, and the production costs were lower as well. We choose Pretty Close due to the zero month lead time, and the $1 million set up cost. From what we learned in class, averages with smaller standard deviations were more accurate so this led us to adjust our production levels accordingly. Model A had smaller standard deviations so we didn t steer far from using that average, but Model B s standard deviations were larger so we had to be more careful with the production levels we chose. Towards the later years, we also factored in the news stories and trends that developed in the previous years and adjusted the levels accordingly. The allocation of capacity among our suppliers was mainly due to the lead times and unit costs. We placed a larger order with Far Far Away in January because the lead time was four months and we would have received it by the time the sales season started in May. The unit costs were also cheaper which meant we could order more. We placed a smaller order with Pretty Close in April due to the zero month lead time, and the unit cost was more expensive. In the last two years we decided to adjust the order capacity for each model depending on if we overstocked or understocked in the previous year. In Elizabeth Wurtzel s autobiography, Prozac Nation, she tends to do this in many of her relationships, to escape her depression. But through many taxing years of failed attempts, she is the one saves herself. Wurtzel is one of the many who view love as a sort of detox, a way to replenish your soul and save you. • 13. Effective Use Of Imagery In Marianne Moore s Poetry In Poetry , Marianne Moore explains that it is not that she does not like poetry, but it is the idea that poetry is simply not the same anymore. Poetry conveys ingenuity and candid ideas; it should be used to express one s authentic thoughts and feelings. Moore connects the use of imagery to expound on the interpretation that people do not appreciate or like what they do not understand. The poem purposely has no true structure, as it is written in free form with no rhyme scheme or pattern. Moore shows her frustration with the addressed autocrats of literature and displays that by using an ironic tone in the composition of the poem. Through Moore s use of imagery, she highlights people s lack of originality and perspective. Robertson Davies depicts a novel in which two opposing characters strive for self completion. The journey of completing one s self is one of Jung s archetypes. According to Jung, completing both the body and soul lies within the characteristics of the psyche. The psyche is composed of three parts: the collective unconscious, ego and the personal unconscious. The collective unconscious is what people come into this world knowing, how children are shaped as adults through their childhood experiences and parental influences. Secondly, whether an individual should have the liberty of choice to partake in drug related activities. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (MoDA) governs the sale and possession of illicit drugs in the United Kingdom. This legislation was implemented following the signing of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs 1961. For that reason, it could be argued that provided an individual s actions do not evoke harm on others, their choices should remain without legal interference. However, the law principally endeavours to protect individuals from harming others. Laws were even made to restrict and prevent research on prisoners. An example of such laws is the Nuremburg code which was made because of inhumane research being conducted in concentration camps during WWII. Prisoners are now considered a vulnerable population and research is extremely restricted because of this. Prisoners shouldn t be allowed to participate in scientific research because they can be manipulated, it can be dangerous, and they aren t educated/smart enough to comprehend the tests being conducted. There are laws to allow only safe research but dangerous research still occurs anyways. Different substances that are used in chemical warfare were tested on prisoners which is clearly a dangerous test to perform where casualties would be expected. The History Of Modern Latin America The history of modern Latin America begins after the Second World War when the economic changes wrought by the war, namely the shift towards manufacturing and urbanization, produced political and diplomatic changes across the Americas. The end of the war led to increased imports from the West, reducing the competitiveness of Latin American industry. Additionally, falling crop prices led to increasing urbanization. The result of these economic and demographic shifts was the rise of a populist movement throughout Latin America. Populism in Latin America was characterized by a combination of nationalism, often coded with the language of anti imperialism and anti Americanism, and class politics. However, populism did not appeal solely to workers; rather, populist leaders attempted to create broad coalitions of people who believed that Latin American countries needed economic and political reform. The populists were generally opposed by the rural elite, which had held power throughout Latin America since the age of colonialism. Additionally, many Latin American leaders began to embrace dependencia theory; i.e. they believed that Latin America would remain poor and under the control of Western business interests as long as Latin America remained dependant on Western, specifically American, capital and imports. • 32. How Does Atwood Use Language In The Handmaids Tale How does Atwood presents the importance of language in The Handmaid s Tale? Throughout the novel, we see evidence of indoctrination in all of the characters. This indoctrination process appears to be primarily carried out by Gilead s manipulation of language among its residents. Language is a powerful tool in shaping our thoughts and how we behave; the control and exploitation of discourse in the regime shows us not only this, but also how language can provide power as well as take it away. Gilead s government relies heavily on language from the bible to help maintain its theocratic dictatorship. It does this by taking religious quotes such as Give me children or else I die out of context and bending the meaning to impose their ideologies. A quote that is made to be taken quite literally in Gilead as the women are told it is their sole purpose to reproduce and if they do not they are an unwoman a disturbing term which implies that in the eyes of Gilead, unless the women meet its ideology, they are useless and their humanity is taken away from them. ... Pros And Cons Of Long-Term Franchise Long Term Franchise (BOT or LDO) Around the world, long term franchises for infrastructure facilities are usually referred to as BOT projects, because under this type of contractual agreement the private sector builds, operates, and eventually transfers to government the facility in question. When a lease of the underlying land is involved, this type of arrangement is sometimes called Lease Develop Operate (LDO); in this case the transfer back to government is implicit approach is widely used for several reasons. First, it taps into a different pool of capital than is normally available for public infrastructure projects, thereby expanding the range of potential funding sources. Second, private consortia are often able to design and build large facilities in significantly less time than is possible via traditional government procurement methods. Third, both the up front cost and the operating costs may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fourth, BOT is a way of shifting many of the risks of project development from the public sector to the private sector. For these reasons, airport BOT projects have proliferated in recent years. As of early 1994, there were 15 airport BOT terminal or runway projects under way worldwide, and another five projects to develop entire new airports. In addition, another 18 such projects were under study. No outright airport BOT project has yet occurred in the United States, but Transport Canada used this process to develop the successful international terminal (Terminal 3) at Toronto (as will be discussed in the next section). Many U.S. airports have used something resembling an LDO process to develop new terminals sponsored by either one or a group of airlines, which gain exclusive control of the gates in that terminal. But this type of project raises important competition and access issues that do not arise when the developer/operator is an independent third party which relates to all airlines equally as users (as is the case ... • 34. You Can Use Meditation To Deepen Your Spirituality Essay You can use meditation to deepen your spirituality. Very many practice it to have better health, both physical and mental. But you can use it also to deepen your spirituality. Deepening Your Spirituality The origins of meditation have been mostly religious, especially religion as practiced in the monasteries. Monks and nuns, both in Christian and non Christian groups, like Buddhism, are still the ones who professedly practice meditation on a daily basis for long periods of time, even hours. Some who have practiced it have experienced the beneficial effects this practice has brought to them and so have encouraged to use this exercise to improve their physical and mental health. But you can use meditation to also deepen your spirituality. By deepening your spirituality I mean that you will have a broader grasp of spiritual realities. You may come to realize that it is not only human persons who have a spiritual side to their nature but even the animals and plants have also a spiritual dimension. At present this is not widely accepted because of the Aristotelian model most learned in school that living things are made up only of matter and form, or body and soul. ... After developing and illustrating the typology, we suggest avenues for empirical investigation, specifying the particular cognitive processes that we expect to be differentially affected by different categories of visual rhetorical figures. Among the more important contributions of the typology is its demonstration of how concepts from art theory, semiotics and kindred disciplines can be linked to concepts drawn from social cognition in a manner susceptible to empirical study. A typology of visual rhetorical figures Defining visual rhetoric in ads We follow McQuarrie and Mick (1996) in defining a rhetorical figure as an artful deviation in form that adheres to an identifiable template. Thus, the headline Can t say no to pistachio is a rhetorical figure because it deviates in its arrangement of sounds from an ordinary sentence. However, readers do not consider this deviation to be an error because they have encountered this kind of repetition of syllables many times and have learned to treat it as a rhyme. Similarly, when readers encounter the verbal pun Why weight for success? in an ad for the Diet Center, they understand it as a play on a word with two meanings (i.e. weight and wait ). • 36. Hegemonic Masculinity Analysis Reserving the cultural power and importance of gaming for the male audience effectively forms a gender hierarchy, which is the definition of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2005). This concept is a theoretical perspective combining Gramsci s analysis of class relations with gender studies to illustrate how gender can shape society. Connell defines hegemonic masculinity as a gender practice which embodies the currently accepted answer to the problem of the legitimacy of patriarchy, which guarantees (or is taken to guarantee) the dominant position of men and the subordination of women (Connell, 2005, p. 77). Therefore, in the context of the videogames industry and the gaming press, because men have always been, and continue to be perceived as, the dominant audience, they and not women, will remain the principal group courted by these institutions, which effectively reinforces the perception that gaming is a space owned by men where women are not ... Throughout the years, the sport of football has risen through the ranks to become the spectator sport in North America. Football has been interwoven into the American psyche and culture. Millions of dedicated and loyal fans keenly await the chance to pack out stadiums at the beginning of each National Football League (NFL) season. They stare into the dazzling field lights, clothe themselves in paraphernalia, and wildly cheer on the players of their chosen team. Football has become a part of the American life. The NFL embodies the fun in American society. It is seventeen weeks filled with excitement, high spirits, and a competitive atmosphere. A piece of American society that isn t so jubilant has been making serious headlines as of lately. These series of incidents have been a Public Relations nightmare for the beloved league. The use of racial slurs both on the field and off the field by NFL players is an issue that, until recently, was not openly discussed in the sport. The number of incidents has gradually increased throughout the years. As a solution to this growing problem, NFL committees have recently decided to impose a 15 yard penalty on any and all players that use the racial slur Nigga(er) while playing the game. All four poems have a steady theme, time. In the four poems Burnt Norton, East Coker, The Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding all relate to time. He states how it time can never move fast enough but always to fast when he wants it move slower. He states this this theme in three totally different settings. Burnt Norton is about air, East Coker being on land. And the Dry Salvages taking place hypocritically in the water. But, T.S. Eliot uses beliefs, experiences, and circumstances to convey the importance of time in all of these sections of the poem, The Four Quartets. To begin, his experiences influenced his writing heavily in this poem. In the Dry Salvages, the fourth stanza is T.S praying for the people who s occupation deals with the water. T.S refers bank to when he was a kid in WW1 and prays for the women who had husbands in the Navy during that time. As if time could never pass by quick enough. He writes Repeat a prayer also on behalf of Women who have seen their sons and husbands. Setting forth, and not returning back. Figlia de tuo figlio, queen of heaven ( T.S. Eliot). One of these illegal is my father, who came to the U.S.A in 1996 to work and tried to pay the numerous debts that he got in my country; in addition, my country had a large concern where there weren t jobs and several banks had gone broke because of the change from Sucre to the dollar. Anti immigration supports comment that the problem with undocumented immigrant workers is that flouting the law has become the norm. (Miller, 2010). Another reason why people support deportation is because some illegals come as criminals and cross the border to damage the country. The drugs, which a lot of Americans consume, come from South America to Mexico. Where a drug dealer produces, then and sends them to the U.S.A. The structure of intelligence is best subdivided into two significant categories. They are environmental and hereditary influences. Environmental differences can be divided into different factors. The deprivation model of social class and intelligence consists of three variables. These variables explain, in terms of environmental factors, development and performance which are correlated with social status. The first of these variables consists of the combination of birth order, nutrition, and prenatal care. Children who are first born, on average score better on mental tests. A hampering situation would entail adults who use aversive, neutral or random stimulus contingencies. The last of these contributions refers to the schedules of reinforcement. The specification of a particular set of goals by the environment not only determines whether learning (255). Biss is able to weave together so many aspects of our society into a cohesive whole that explains the metaphor of immunity vs. inoculation, self vs. nonself. For example, she is able to bring forward common current controversial topics such as gender and racial equality and easily tie it into the main theme of the book. For example: ...A 1912 definition of biological individuality as the quality of being rendered non functional if cut in half, Donna Haraway observes that this requirement of indivisibility is problematic for...women... Their personal, bounded individuality is compromised by their bodies troubling talent for making other bodies... One of our functions, as women, is to be divided (125 126). This unique perspective on a reason for sexism is related to back to the misconception in our society that our bodies are independent of the environment around us. Thus, substantiating the misinformed self vs. nonself idealogy. Biss writes in depth on herd immunity, the concept that immunity and health/sickness of the individual are dependent on the community. Thus, vaccination is an act done more for the health of the community rather than the individual. Adversity toward vaccinations has always been balanced between politics and ethics. People have historically resisted vaccination for the desire to remain pure and/or govern their own body.
