Model Descriptive Essay
Crafting a model descriptive essay about oneself can be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty
lies not only in the task of self-reflection but also in the delicate balance between self-promotion
and humility. One must navigate the fine line between showcasing personal achievements and
maintaining a genuine, relatable tone.
Moreover, the challenge extends to the need for introspection, as delving into one's own
experiences and characteristics requires a level of self-awareness that can be uncomfortable at
times. It's not just about listing accomplishments; it's about understanding the underlying
motivations, lessons learned, and personal growth that resulted from those experiences.
Finding the right words to convey one's personality and uniqueness is another hurdle. Striking a
balance between being descriptive and avoiding self-aggrandizement can be tricky. The essay
should capture the essence of the individual without sounding boastful or overly modest.
Additionally, the challenge lies in making the narrative engaging and relatable to the audience.
It's not just about stating facts but weaving a compelling story that draws readers in, helping
them connect with the writer on a personal level.
In conclusion, writing a model descriptive essay about oneself is a demanding task that requires
introspection, careful word choice, and the ability to strike the right balance between self-
promotion and authenticity. It is an exercise in self-expression that challenges the writer both
creatively and emotionally.
For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, various resources are

The Development Of Heritage And Vacant Building Stock
Dorf is a consulting firm specialising in adaptive reuse development of heritage and
vacant building stock. We will provide strategic packages for developers, architects,
planners and government agencies. We believe that the adaptive reuse of our heritage
and aging built landscape is fundamental to environmental, social and cultural
sustainability. Dorf advocates preservation through adaption, rather than blunt
conservation and isolation. We believe that more attention and consideration is due to
the respectful adaptive reuse of our Post War and modernist heritage, particularly in
Brisbane. In the future, we aim to evolve our practice to include roles as developers,

The Property Council of Australia has also indicated that Grade B commercial
property is experiencing an increased vacancy rating, the secondary market of
office property in Brisbane rising to 23% vacancy in 2016. In response to this, there
has been a push from the City and Property councils to adapt such buildings into
residential apartments, student accommodation, retirement living and hotels.
Brisbane s 41 George Street office tower is a key example of a piece of Brisbane s
Post War heritage with current potential for adaptive re use projects, with speculative
plans to transform the recently sold building s 1,021sqm floor plate into refurbished
offices, a hotel, residential apartments and student accommodation.
The combination of the increased demand for inner city housing against high vacancy
rates for office buildings is providing lucrative development opportunities for adaption
into residential apartments. The forecast for house price growth in 2016 was 17% in
Perth, 6% in Adelaide, 6% in Melbourne, 8% in Darwin, 19% in Sydney and 16%
in Brisbane. Developers are looking towards the adaptive reuse of C and D grade
office space across Australia capital cities into residential buildings. The economic
prospects for adaptive reuse as residential apartments across Australian capital cities
were verified by research conducted by JLL
Ivory Coast Imperialism
The European invasion of the Ivory Coast started in the early 19th century when a
group of French traders created establishments in the country. They obtained
territorial concessions from local tribes. By doing this, they spread French influence
throughout the nation to other cultural groups that existed during the time. During
the late 1800s, other European explorers ventured throughout the Ivory Coast in an
attempt to create treaties with local chiefs. By the year 1893, France colonized the
Ivory Coast as their own. (14) Cultural groups of the Ivory Coast were greatly
affected by the colonization of France. These groups were offered no human rights
and were forced to work in mines, on plantations, or to work on public projects. This

The first round of voting was against Gbagdo and Alassane Ouattara. The results of
the first round were inconclusive. In the second round, Ouattara defeated Gbagdo,
but Gbagdo refused to accept the results. Several months following the election, a
defeated Gbagdo and his security forces attacked and killed citizens in the
economic capital, Abidjan, and other areas of the country. Under the protection of
UN troops, Ouattara took refuge in a hotel near the presidential palace of the Ivory
Coast. Another civil war erupted when militias that supported Ouattara began
attacking Gbagbo s forces. The violence eventually peaked in March 2011. The
Human Rights Watch declared Gbagdo s attacks on Ivorians as crimes against
humanity. Ouattara s forces continued to fight off Gbagdo s forces and soon took
control of a majority of the country. Gbagdo still refused to accept the election
results and to step down as president. Finally, on April 11, 2011, he was taken into
custody and was faced with charges of crimes against humanity.
Baroque Er The Baroque Period
The Baroque period spanned from 1600 to 1750. It was a time where new ideas
were discovered and original boundaries were broken to reveal completely different
aspects to architecture. Seen as an artistic style, Baroque was a powerful period, full
of flamboyant concepts, derived to create drama. The Baroqueperiod produced many
magnificent buildings, every one extremely detailed.
The catholic church started the Baroque movement through their bid to reclaim their
crowd. The church attempted to do this through the use of art, in the hope that it
would attract people, often done through detailed buildings, but also through the use
of dramatic sculptures and paintings.
The Baroque period is full of compelling new ides; architects began to experiment
with their buildings in many ways, one of which was their ability to theoretically
captivate spaces through the movement of the facade, becoming the first movement
to not build the buildings right along the boundary of the plot.
Another futuristic technique used by the baroque was publicly display the buildings
staircases as a key element of a building. Previous styles tended to conceal the
staircases, Baroque decided to use the movement between stories of a building as a
feature element; not only did they display them, they brought them to the fore front
of buildings to create a powerful statement.
Buildings built in the movement were symmetrical, this was a continued trait from
the renaissance period. In addition to this, the
Civil War And The 1960s
A History of Protest Music Revolutionary War to the 1960s Protest music in the
United States dates back to the 19th century. This protest music focused around
subjects that were topical for the time period. Among these topics were the Civil
War. Another topic was slavery, and its abolition. A final topic was women s
suffrage. A famous group of protest singers was the Hutchinson Family Singers.
Their notoriety, which spanned the mid 19th century, began in 1839. Their songs
about abolition were what they were known for. They also sang about the Civil
War, the temperance movement, women s suffrage, and other social reform
movements. They are considered by many to be the precursors to famous 20th
century protest singers songwriters. Negro spirituals is a subgenre of music that
many see as a form of protest music. The focus of the spirituals were slavery and
oppression. Many well known Negro spirituals draw influence from the troubles
other oppressed groups in history faced. During the 20th century, there was protest
music before the Vietnam War. The most common topic was the struggle for fair
wages and working hours for the working class. Also, the attempt to unionize the
American workforce. Another protest music topic was the Great War or World War
I. There were songs protesting war in general. There were also songs that protested
America s involvement in what was considered a European war. A third protest
music topic was the hardships of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the
How Does George Elliot Use Biblical Allusions In
Middlemarch
George Elliot in his novel Middlemarch , makes effective use of literary devices
such as biblical allusion and imagery when regarding Miss Brooke to show the
narrators attitude of admiration towards her which then turns to pity, conveying
Miss Brooke s fall from a heavenly stance. Dorothea s detailed description is made
vivid by the use of biblical allusions and imagery. Elliot writes about Dorothea s
beauty compared to the beauty in which the Blessed Virgin appeared to Italian
painters; (lines 4 5). The Virgin Mary is a saint; therefore, by comparing Dorothea to
a saint, it shows that she is perfect in the eyes of the narrator. Elliot continues the
Biblical allusions in lines 5 8 talking about the effect provincial fashion has on her and
Principles And Methods Of Ergonomics
INTRODUCTION
Ergonomic means the understanding of the interactions among humans and other
elements of a system. This is achieved by applying theoretical principles, data and
methods to design so that we can optimise human well being and thus improving
overall system performance. Ergonomists helps in planning, designing and evaluation
of tasks, jobs and products in industries. These also include environments and
systems in order to make viable to the needs, abilities and limitations of peoples.
The term Ergonomics means Greek ergo that is work and nomos means laws to
denote the science of work, ergonomics now contributes to all aspects of human
activity. Physical ergonomics is concerned with human anatomy, and some of the

According to International Ergonomics Association (IEA); Ergonomics is the
scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among
humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory,
principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well being and
overall system performance(2). In countries like India where there are many
industries, they play a vital role in employing majority of industrial workers. The
majority of the industrial workers are suffering from musculoskeletal disorder(5)
that are work related specially upper extremity work related musculoskeletal
disorders (UE WMSDs) are the most common form of occupational diseases.
Hence to consider this factor, operator needs proper seating arrangement such that
their problems regarding the MSDs can be reduced productivity will be increased

comfortable, efficient, and harmless as possible. This is achieved by proper balance
between worker characteristics and task demands. In any work setting it is important
to produce high quality products and it s been a main objective also. Labour is
directly related to the productivity. Their ability, skills, productivity and performance
have a great importance towards the increased production (4). Hence proper
ergonomics enhance worker productivity, provide worker safety, physical and mental

Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services
The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly
known through SWOT and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political,
economic, social and technology. PEST analysis investigates the important factors
that are affecting the industry and influencing the companies operating in the health
and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when legal and environment
are added it becomes PESTLE analyses.
SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for
strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure,
skills, staff, systems, and shared values need to be considered in the change. The
above mentioned internal factors are really important to the Royal United Hospital
Bath NHS Trust (RUH).
Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive
change in the health and social care sector. The political factors are known to have
influence on the structure of the organization, the professional practice, the
distribution of services and the quality of services. An example of a recent
government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas patients
introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal
for the NHS to see overseas patients free of charge.
Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income;
unemployment and recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care
How Did Christopher Columbus Discovered America
During the late 15th century, Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas.
Columbus started making a living there and survived through capitalism. Between
1450 1750, the higher classes (including Kings) in Africa sold lower class to
europeans to become slaves in order to serve colonists in the American plantations.
King Afonso, the ruler of Kongo, permitted only the low class Africans to be sold
as slaves. He needed the higher class for the country so he did not permit higher
class to be sold. Regional rulers also supported the idea of trading slaves for
resources. Back then, African states needed defense to defend their land from being
taken over by others. To protect themselves, regional rulers sold lower class as slaves

Epictetus Case Summary
An example of a case where a person believes something is possible, but in fact was
not possible reminds me of this past weekend s football game. Iowa Hawkeyes vs.
Michigan Wolverines. Looking at the statistics heading into the game, you d think
two collegiate football teams can compete against one another, but looking at
previous games, and looking at the statistics, you d then think there s no way and it
s impossible that the Hawkeyes can beat the Wolverines. This issue connects with
Epictetus by his idea of a stoic perspective. Epictetus believes that you should go
into something with satisfaction. He would say that knowing the past games played,
if you know Iowa won t win, you won t be as disappointed. You should have an idea

How To Argue A Career In Jonathan Harr s A Civil Action
Sitting in a small cafГ© in Maryland, I opened the cover of A Civil Action by
Jonathan Harr and began to read the first page. At the time, I had no real intention of
even finishing the book but was trying to work reading for pleasure into my routine.
My freshman year of college had turned reading into a chore more than anything.
Thankfully, over time, I learned to embrace and combine reading for both knowledge
and pleasure. Now, before I go any further, I must admit that I was unaware a movie
version existed. Although John Travoltas character was often referenced in classes on
how not to negotiate, even to this day, I cannot say I ve ever watched the film.
What I was not expecting, was for the book to captivate my imagination and

Two large corporations were alleged to have dumped the hazardous waste causing
leukemia in numerous victims. Throughout the book, Schlichtmann must educate
himself on the industries he is challenging, on cancer causing chemicals, and on the
tort law involved. Although experts are brought into the mix by both sides, there is a
heavy responsibility on the individual attorneys to learn about and understand their
cases sufficient enough to argue their perspectives. Although some may see this
aspect of a legal career as daunting, I see it as a continuously rewarding challenge.
Each case presents a unique puzzle with its own set of variables, rules, participants
and setbacks. In addition, each case requires the attorney to learn new things. It is the
aspect of continuous learning that I find most interesting.
The lessons taught by A Civil Action were influential in directing me towards a
legal career. Although there are many other factors and variables involved in this
decision, I would be remiss to ignore the impact of this story. A Civil Action is just
one story throughout the past seven years that has influenced my decision to pursue
a legal career. Reading this story changed the way that I viewed the law and
changed the way that I viewed my course of study. I continue to appreciate those few

Black Power Movement
The movement formally arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, at the capitol, but grew
out of six years of cumulative anger on the part of members of the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). The Black Power Movement also
known as the 1970 s Revolution was an attempt by people with varied interests to
make plain the issues which the leaders of the day failed to address. It all started in
October of 1968 when hundreds of university students and supporters led by the
National Joint Action Commission (NJAC). Malcolm X, Black Muslim group,
Black Panthers. Groups like the Black Panthers and Malcolm X which had an
ideology that leaned toward Black Nationalism and equality by any means necessary.

But the solutions that some Black Power leaders advocated seemed only to create
new problems.
But the Movement was not only about taking over the government, it was about
changing the society of Trinidad and Tobago and it was a process which identified
the need for education of the people, recognising that we had been subjected to a
colonial education system and we needed to be able to look at ourselves and our
country and our future from a different perspective. Other groups affected by racism
developed similar movements. By the mid 1970s, the Black Power movement was
for all intents and purposes over. There were arrests, and harassment of many of the
movement s members, gets much of the credit for the decline of the Black Power
movement.
Conclusion
In conclusion, The Black Power Movement was an attempt to address plain issues
that the leaders did not address and it gave people the ability to vote, Integration,
affirmative action and equal rights in the work place. It instilled a sense of racial
pride and self esteem in blacks and how to fight for what we wanted and what was
right and also not to back down until we get it. In the Black Power Movement t the
people of nation united and showed that they cannot be intimidated by just anything.
This also helps future leaders of the country to see what was done in the past and what
Effects Of Ocean Acidification
Ocean acidification will not only have a negative effect on the environment, but also
the global economy. The issues found with ocean acidification in the previous
section of the paper correlate with the effects of ocean acidification on the economy.
Marine life forms, most of which will suffer from lower pHlevels, are a large part of
temperate and tropical costal regions economies. If ocean acidificationis left as is, the
world will start to see declines in various marine life s population. This would spell
disaster for costal economies that largely depend on fishing as a reliable commodity.
Inland economies are also at risk since most likely import seafood to their local
restaurants. Another aspect of the economy to factor into the equation is tourism.
With potential decline in marine life populations, including coralreefs, the tourism
sector would likely see a decline in tourist with the continual increase in ocean
acidification. Dying reefs and less marine life would deteriorate from what makes
visiting costal areas worth the trip. In addition, if no action is taken to combat ocean
acidification, costal areas could potentially become political hotspots for
environmental protestors, therefor making the area less desirable for a vacation spot.
While the temperate and tropic zone economies will suffer, studies show that the artic
region will see an increase in productivity under predicted pH levels and ocean
temperatures. One study in particular estimates a 39%
Occupational Stress Essay
Job stress has proven to be a difficult issue to tackle. Unlike physical or chemical
hazards, there is not an obvious tangible hazardous agent. This issue has also been
preempted by corporate stress management, health promotion, or employee assistance
programs, which explain stress as a purely personal reaction, and often treat the
symptoms, not the causes, of job stress. The occupational stress field also has been
plagued by a variety of definitions and difficulties in measurement of
stress.(Buunk,De Jong,Y Bemas De wolff,1998) In addition, changes in job designor
work organization are often inherently more systems challenging and require more

Miles Davis And Coltrane Essay
Miles Davis and John Coltrane
Miles Davis was named as one of the most important musicians (trumpeters) of the
twentieth century. John Coltrane a groundbreaking acclaimed American saxophonist.
It is impossible to go into the genre of jazz or talk about American contemporary
music without mentioning their names. Hard bop, modal jazz were their main musical
features that to this day are an influence of most jazz today.
Both born in 1926, they each had their own path to success and fame. At just the
age of seventeen, Davis, a nine time Grammy Award winner, became a professional
trumpet player. After learning from Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker with
which he later played bebop with, Davis became famous for his indescribably
amazing jazz music. In 1945, he dropped out of Julliard School (at that time it was
the art and music institute) with the permission of his father and started his full time
career in music. At that time he was a member of the famous Charlie Parker Quintet

alter the landscape of jazz and create hard bop. Both of them are very well known
for bringing the genre of music to a whole other level. The style could be
characterized by a fast tempo, really high energy, and featured polyrhythm and
irregular asymmetric phrasing (Danvarley, para.1). Drums gave out more beat,
instruments were used in various different ways and the saxophone and trumpet

Theoretical Perspective Of Realism Essay
The Theoretical Perspective
In order to understand the theoretical perspective, which best explains policy
formulation by several world leaders we must first take several factors into
consideration. Policies are formed in order to improve the country, need, and for
several countries greed. Many policies are based on the perceptions of life,
liberties, and care to progress as a nation. In an attempt to understand why policies
have been made, understanding the person or people who make them makes
theoretical perspective understandable. There are three theoretical perspectives in
which world leaders identify themselves with one theory or all, based in the
decision they must make. To better understand the international politics comparison
of the three theoretical approaches are conducted. Realism has been viewed as the
dominant perspective in International Relation theory for many years. Realist view
survival as the means to create and enforce laws to protect citizens (6). The
assumption in Realism can be made that the rules of the international system are
dictated by anarchy; in this sense, anarchy is perceived as a lack of central
government to enforce rules and protect states (6). Realism can also be assumed as
the theory that used by nation leaders to rule and govern with an iron Fist . Russia s
President Vladimir Putin, takes a Realism approach to policy formulation. Mr. Putin is
viewed as man that takes action, with his swift military interventions (3). Mr.
Invasive Species Effect On Environment
Issue: The environmental issue that I have chosen is the impact that invasive species
have on the environment. The impact that invasive species have on the environment
is vast, yet little is done about it. This issue is extremely important and will impact
the world for generations to come. In this paper, I hope to learn about the effect they
have on environment and what we can do about it.
Position: I currently believe that invasive species have a large impact on the
environment, but I am not sure of the extent of it. I feel more needs to be done
about it because in the general public not many are concerned about it. I hope to find
out more about this issue in order to back my theory.
Research Strategy: In order to back my idea I will find several informed and
scholarly articles, backing my theory. This includes looking at the effects invasive
species have on the native ones. I will look at both sides to accurately come to the
final conclusion. The most accurate information will come from books published on
invasive species. These books can be found at local libraries and online libraries.
Significance: The question of whether or not invasive species impact the
environment is an important one. The answer affects everyone. In today s world,
we take the outdoors for granted. People don t realize how much it does for us. It
provides economical resources, areas to relax, and oxygen for us to breathe. Without
these simple things our lives would change drastically. Life as we
Curse of the Pyncheons in The House of The Seven Gables

The House of The Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne chronicles the generations
of a Puritan family and the curse which haunts their fates. Although the Pyncheons are
a respected family in their small Massachusetts town, their past is riddled with
secrets, mysterious deaths, and the curse of a dying man. Few in the family ever
believed in the curse, giving the generational disasters of the family the name of
coincidental misfortunes, the simple results of human action. And, while the author
attempts to explain away these coincidences with logic and science, he also conveys
mysterious hints as to the supernaturalphenomena existing within the house of the
seven gables. Because of the secrecy surrounding the story, we, as readers, are...

Appearing to have lain dormant for several decades, the cures again revives itself in
the death of Old Jaffrey Pyncheon, the prodigious uncle of the last remaining
Pyncheons. Said to have been murdered by a nephew, Old Jaffrey was found in the
same manner as his venerable ancestor, with blood upon his collar. Coupled with the
author s expert style, these events may seem a consequence of the haunting family
curse. However, as the story unfolds, we learn that the old uncle was not murdered,
but died of fright, or anger, when he caught his greedy nephew attempting to secure
the family fortune for himself. Similarly, the death of Alice Pyncheon was a result of
her father s greed, when he sacrificed his daughter s happiness in return for material
wealth. The mysterious plot style forces us to consider the possibility of Maule s
curse as the evil force behind the tribulation of the Pyncheons. However, when
considering the facts of each mystery, and the circumstances which caused the
victims demise , it seems as though greed and avarice are the rational source and the
perpetrators simply received the ultimate punishment for their crimes.
The Pyncheon history is steeped in horror and death, because of Maule s curse and
the greed of men, but even after their horrible past, the curse is defeated in the
kindness of a few. Hepzibah, her brother Clifford, and their cousins Phoebe and

Legalize Gambling
It is no different than any other consensual crime, yet it is an issue that gains a lot of
attention because of the controversy surrounding it. There seem to be supporters for
and against this billion dollar monopoly, but the majority of citizens recognize
gambling as a legalized institution within the Canadian economy. Gamblingused to
be what a few meticulous people did with the help of organized crime. Since we
live in a liberal society, people see it that we should be able to spend our money, and
time however we wish. Thus the stateshould not look to outlaw gambling, but to
regulate it. Prohibiting it does not make it go away, it simply pushes it underground,
where gambling is impossible to monitor for fraud and cheating. The implementation

The state must first analyze problem gamblers. In Canada gambling opportunities
vary from province to province with slightly different approaches to casinos and
with gaming devices such as VLT (video lottery terminals). Nonetheless there is no
significant difference in the rates at which problem gambling occur. Evidence does
indicate that a gambling addict, like other people with addictions, will find any
opportunity to gamble. This indicates that specific traits linked to an individual are
more important factors with problem gambling, rather than the physical factors
including how close a person is to a gambling facility, or if they have few interests
or hobbies, or feel their lives lack direction. This also points to the idea that
banning gambling is likelier to push problem gamblers to illegal sources, rather
than controlling the behaviour. Advocates of gambling prohibition say gambling is
an addiction, and often point to stories of addicts who have wagered away the kids
college fund, lost their house, or turned to crime to pay off their debts. But
foolishness with our own money should not be illegal. We do not prohibit people
from blowing their savings on eBay, taking out mortgages or loans they cannot afford
(at least not yet), or frittering away their pay packets on

Countries In The Axis Alliance
There were eleven countries in the axis alliance not the usually conceived three.
World War II was a horrible time in the world s history. In World War II, Germany,
Italy, and Japan were the main powers in the axis alliance, who were basically the
bad guys in World War II. The United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union
were the main powers in the allies alliance. The Germans wanted to destroy all
people that weren t of the Aryan race. Aryans were tall, blond, and had blue eyes.
Anyone who didn t meet those requirements was deemed racially inferior. Japan and
Italy joined the axis alliance because they were guaranteed land when the battle was
won for Germany. This is the same for most countries that joined the axis alliance.

powers coordinated with each other and each other s armies they could have easily
overrun the Allied forces. Germany was very incompetent in regards to coalition
warfare. Germany did however succeed in combining military operations with Italy,
Finland, Hungary and Romania. Hitler did not however have any plans to
coordinate with Japan which could have won them the war. The lack of emphasis on
coalition warfare in German officer training, Nazi racial ideology and Hitler s
personality intensified the problems with the Axis powers armies. These problems
cost Germany and the rest of the Axis powers the
The Moor Monologue
I am getting very suspicious of what s going on with the Barrymore s. I woke up
this morning and looked out a window, it was unusually an amazing view of the
moor. I could see everything, the Grimpen Mire, it was the best view of the moor.
I assumed that I should mention what happened last night to Sir Henry. In fact, Sir
Henry mentioned that he also heard Barrymore going around late at night. This all
is very unusual, so we both decided to stay up that night and follow Barrymore. Sir
Henry prepared to go out for a walk on the moor. I had to come along and

Suddenly, a low sound seems to ring through each of our ears, a moaning howl that I
heard that I heard on the moor that afternoon with Stapleton. Sir Henry keeps
questioning the sound and wondering what the locals say about that sound, but I try
to change the subject, finally admitting that it is the howl of the Hound of the
Baskervilles. As Sir Henry starts to sound very superstitious about the Hound, we
spot Selden just as he seems to realize that he has been found. He took off and ran
across the moor, and we chased after him we realized that he had too much of a
head start. Standing on the moor, I gaze out into the distance on the moor and spot
another tall figure of another man outlines against the moor. But then, a split second
later, the man was gone. I am quite interested in who the tall figured man out on the

How Are Sleeping Aids For Individuals In Recovery From...
Sleeping Aids for Individuals in Recovery from Substance Abuse The use of any
medication that has the potential for misuse or abuse is of critical consideration
when working with individuals in recovery. Specifically, if an individual is open with
a counselor, prescribing physician, or psychiatrist, about their past substance abuse
and dependency, they in turn have placed a large amount of trust in these
professionals related to appropriate treatment and decision making. One of the
primary issues facing individuals recovering from substance abuse, particularly in the
early stages, is that of insomniaor sleep disorders. Kolla et Al. (2014) noted that while
47% of individuals in the beginning of recovery experience insomnia, this number...

According to Jones, Knutson, and Haines (2003), when treating individuals in
recovery, nonpharmacological treatment should be the first line of treatment, with a
heavy emphasis on the avoidance of mood altering substances.
Position on Topic My position on the topic with this population (and any population
for that matter) is that just as with benzodiazepines for generalized anxiety disorder,
alternative options should be initially explored. Jaffe et Al. (2004) discussed the
higher abuse potential for benzodiazepines when compared to non benzodiazepine
hypnotic sleeping medications, such as zolpidem, although there is still abuse
potential. One medication group that was noted as having virtually no abuse
potential, specifically with recovering individuals, was antihistamines, which could
include diphenhydramine and hydroxyzine (Jaffe et Al., 2004). In a recovering
individual without any comorbid psychiatric diagnoses, these should be considered a
good initial course of action, along with lifestyle changes and natural remedies, such
as melatonin, a naturally occurring option with proven benefits related to improved
sleep latency and quality (Perry, Alexander, Liskow, DeVane, 2007) Since sleep has
been demonstrated as so important in early recovery, it is important that it is
addressed. What is even more important, are potential other

Mary Matz, Michael Hodgson and published in 2014 discusses the musculoskeletal
injury( MSI) among the primary healthcare providers in the veteran health
administration facilities. The research shows that the rate of the MSI is quite high
and this overall impacts the efficiency of the nurses. The article suggests that failure
to educate the peer leaders on the appropriate safety patience handling programs,
inadequate equipment, and staffing contributes to MSI (Powell Cope et al.).
The researchers had a three year study between 2008 and 2011 where they gathered
data from coordinators in from the previous years on the rate and the incidence of the
injuries in the hospital to evaluate whether there was any difference before and after
the program implementation (Powell Cope et al.). Indeed, the study showed that the
program helped to reduce injuries among the caregivers. This paper proposed that
health directors implement peer leadership training on the safe patient handling
program (SPH) and the use of specialized handling equipment (Powell Cope et al.).

is being taught to someone, it is expected that the activity of Ethical Hacking is

In the current society, business, organizations and government are very dependent on
computers and Internet. Adequately protecting an organization s information assets
is a requisite issue. Many organizations have deployed security software or devices,
such as firewalls or intrusion detection systems, to help protect their information
assets and to quickly identify potential attacks. IBM Systems Journal states that some
organizations came to realize that one of the best ways to evaluate the intruder threat
to their interests would be to have independent computer security professionals
attempt to hack into their computer systems (IBM 2001). This might be a good way
to evaluate the system vulnerability. However, to allow a penetration test team break
into their systems, the organization may have faces some risks. For example, the
penetration test team may fail to identify significant vulnerabilities; sensitive security
information may be disclosed, increasing the risk of the organizations being
vulnerable to external attacks (The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants).
Some organization even send their system administrator to be trained Ethical

Memories Of My Life
My childhood is full of many fond memories. When I think back to some of the
earliest times, I can only remember tiny sparks and flickers of certain moments.
However, at a certain age, I began to more vividly remember events in my life. The
first family vacation I can fully recall was a trip my family took to Disney World in
Orlando, Florida. When I found out about the trip it was Christmas morning. My
brother and I each got an envelope, which encased tickets to Disney World. I was
ecstatic to go to Disney World because it was a childhood dream come true for me!
When the day of the trip arrived, we stuffed all of our luggage into the back of our
minivan and began our trip to the airport in Charlottesville, Virginia. We waited
three long hours for our flight to leave Charlotteville, but we finally got onto the
plane. I had a feeling of butterflies in my stomach as I waited for the plane to take
off. I sat next to my dad, and he held my hand to take away the nerves. From above
the clouds, everything looked miniature, and I remember feeling like a giant. We
flew from Charlottesville, Virginia to Charlotte, North Carolina. At the airport in
Charlotte, our flight to Orlando was delayed. We waited an eternity, and I wasn t
surprised to find that it was dark outside when we boarded our plane. We flew
through a small city in Georgia, and all of the lights resembled a cluster of glowing
stars. We reached Orlando, Florida around 12:30 AM, and our journey to the Swan

Human Nature In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
To simply be alive consists of the acts of breathing and having blood pump through
the body, but to be a human being consists of much more complexity. The nature
composed of a human being involves having self sovereignty on our own emotions,
opinions, desires, faiths as well as having a moral subconscious. Yet, what occurs
when a situation allows an individual to react in a behaviour that doesn t follow these
defining factors of human nature? In Yann Martels Life of Pi, he creates the conflict
of a cargo ship sinking, and the only notable survivors on the life raft consists of a
hyena, a zebra with a broken leg, an orangutan, and a 16 year old Indian boy. The
protagonist of the novel, Pi Patel, is faced with a personal survival conflict... Show

When we are placed in situations of desperation, we often resort to other motives
that we would normally categorize as inhumane in order to survive: When your
own life is threatened, your sense of empathy is blunted by a terrible, selfish hunger
for survival, (133). This becomes apparent to Pi when he does not feel any sympathy
towards the zebra, after the ruthless attack from the hyena. Pi has trouble coping with
this behaviour as it is going against values that defines him as a person: religion and
his moral obligations. This willpower to survive often blocks our sense of empathy
for one another and controls our mind and our hearts. Later in the chapter, the hyena
has an opportunity to attack the orangutan, but does not. This relates to the idea that
theses two opposites of moral and survival instincts can co exist together, such as the
rhino and the goat. Ultimately, the symbolism of the two opposite natures coexisting
with one another proves that nature is filled with surprises and the need for balance
of cooperation and competition is essential to survive.
The way Pi acts throughout his journey suggests that having faith is one of the most
important practises to learn as it can give an individual hope. Pi has a strong
connection to all his practising faiths: Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Society is
set to have many unspoken rules that we must abide by to

because of high capital expenditures, so it has negative Cash to Free Cash Flow

What are Ford s primary sources of cash? Why did Ford choose to accumulate so

Ford s primary resource of cash is issuing stock to shareholders. By having class A
and class B shares, Ford is able to have control of the corporation in the family.
They have increased given the shareholders a confidence by increasing their
dividends as well. Ford need to accumulate cash because the automotive industry

Explain what shareholders would receive in exchange for (a) old common shares, (b)
old class B shares, and (c) old shares held in the employee saving plan.
Explain how dividends and taxations will be applied to VEP.
The VEP is basically a plan for investors to capitalize on instead of having control
over the corporation. The entire reason behind this plan is so that the Ford family
does not loose any control over the corporation, yet still have good financial backing
from its investors.
For class A shareholders, the VEP shareholders would exchange their

imagine most westerns be with people with guns and they were allowed to use them
more freely than what they are now. Westernmales always had guns at hand just like

Massik also mentioned how westerns took over land through massive killings, this is

My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me...
Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The
question was posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, What would you
like to do if money were no object? This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet
a bit because this was roughly the third time that I have regarded it, so I took it as
a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself. Of course, there is a multitude
of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn t the issue like many of us make it out to
be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed more
for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love
to do regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and
that will always be a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both.
I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to
travel made me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe
one of the reasons why that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival
instinct of migration, which can never really be satisfied. I believe that this could

How Did The War Of Roses Affect England
In England, the throne was affected for many years due to The Wars of Roses,
which led to a changed look on the face of the country. The Wars of Roses was a
civil war fought by the House of the York, and the opposition the House of Lancaster.
In addition, the unique name behind this war has comes from reference to the
heraldic badges associated with the two royal houses that are responsible for this was.
Simultaneously, this war had a huge impact on Englandwhich resulted in a hit taken
by their economy, and also the English government period lost some control over the
country. The war occurred from 1455 through 1487 thus having a huge impact on the

starting date of this battle is February 21, 1461.The Yorkist troops are now under
the leadership of Earl of Warwick since Richard, Duke of York was killed in the
previous battle. This battle took place over a whole month and featured many deaths
from both sides. It is estimated that the House of Lancaster lost about two thousand
troops while the House of Yorklost about four thousand soldiers as a result of the
battle. The second Battle of St. Albans is said to be one of the bloodiest battles of
the entire Wars of Roses (Kendall). The Lancastrians made a major push in this
battle as they successfully recapture Henry VI who was captured and taken prisoner
by the Yorkists during an earlier battle. The Lancastrian army fights very well in this
battle and ultimately wins the battle. Also at the end of this battle, Earl of Warwick
takes over the throne of England and furthermore becomes king and takes full control

Managing Investment Growth Of A Diversified Portfolio
Managing Investment Growth In order to maximize a portfolio s return, it is
important to analyze risk and diversify securities, while adhering to the goals of an
investor. Through analyzing the different classes of risk, one can match investments
to an investor s risk tolerance and return requirements. Even though some investments
may present greater riskthey are countered by a higher rate of return and vice versa,
less risk corresponds to a lower return. Moreover, investment risk can be substantially
reduced through diversification, which spreads a portfolio across different industries,
businesses and investment options. The makeup of a diversified portfolio continually
changes based on an investor s time horizon and investment goals. In accordance with
the Modern Portfolio Theory(MPT), one can maximize return while reducing risk,
through assessing investments standard deviation and beta. When applied to the
capital asset pricing model(CAPM) an investor can determine what the expected rate
of return should be and if the risk is worth it. Therefore, by analyzing risk and
diversifying investments one can maximize an investment growth, increasing a
portfolios return.
Investment Risk Investment risk assesses the overall level of uncertainty or volatility
associated with an investments potential returns. As a result, investment risk helps
determine the likelihood of receiving an increased or decreased amount of the
expected return on an investment. While risk is

Color Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald is an author known for his best selling book, The Great Gatsby.
The story is about a man, Jay Gatsby, who was in love with Daisy Buchanan. Daisy
was married to Tom, but Tom was cheating on her with Myrtle Wilson. There were
two islands the story took place in: East Egg and West Egg. East Egg was the old
money, or money passed down from ancestors, while West Egg represented the new
money, or self made money. Fitzgerald used multiple types of symbolism in his
book, and his symbolism helped the reader understand the plot. The novel is read
throughout schools to teach symbolism. The book can be described as [...] satisfying
as entertainment, thought provoking as a study, and increasingly rewarding the more
closely it is examined. (Koster). A frequently used type of symbolism in The Great
Gatsby was color. The colors symbolized in the book were white, green, yellow, blue,
gold, and gray.
The color white normally represents pureness or innocence. In The Great Gatsby,
though, it represented a fake innocence. Daisy was always around white: white
clothes, white curtains, and white rooms. Even her name was symbolized with
white. A daisy flower has white petals and a yellow center. Daisy was not anywhere
close to the picture of innocence; she was all about money and would try her hardest
to get it. She married Tom Buchanan for the money,

On A Trip At Delaware
On a trip to Delaware: We got off the bus at Wilmington and a woman sat down
next to me. Cocaine burned my nose and I couldn t stop swallowing air. I told her I
felt like I was on fire. She drew me a map to the nearest lake. She told me you
shouldn t depend on one person too much, but on everyone you meet just a little
bit. Then she tore her cigarette because she only wanted half. On the human who
makes it hard for me to even remember my name: I used to get very high and fall
asleep on subways that were on endless loops and on one, I found a journal from
the 90s and I thought that was the most interesting thing I would ever find, but
then I met you in our friend s apartment when I was drunk and you were eating
birthday cake off a paper towel. On a really cool writer and what to do about him,
especially when you re reading him on a bus to Virginia: I know there are a lot of
reasons to be critical of Jack Kerouac and I am open to them and I enjoy discussing
them, but all else aside let s not forget that he did one cool thing and that was: he
inspired/continues to inspire young people to do things differently and to travel
and to reject a bunch of potentially harmful societal ideals based around wealth and
formal education and conventional morals. Somewhere I read that Jack Kerouac is
dangerous to read before you turn 25 and I agree and that s why I think everyone
should read Jack Kerouac s work before they turn 25. On crying in a public bathroom

Curriculum Objectives For Academic Standards
Academic standards are defined as statements of what all students, teachers, and
schools are expected to recognize. Content standards define the understanding and
abilities that students should conquer. The content standards are relaxingly known as
what students should know and be able to do. They specify the methods of thinking,
working, communicating, reasoning, and investigating the significant and lasting
concepts, subjects, and dilemmas. Content standards define what every student
should be able to do.
Content standards are of abundant significance. Without standards, states, school
districts, and schools would not have any goals to conquer by the time of
advancement to the next level in education. By corresponding standards within each
grade level and subject area, all will know what instruction students should be
receiving, what areas students should be educated on, and what areas they will be
tested on.
Instructional objectives serve as goals that educators have established in the success
of a superior goal. They allow students to know what is expected of them within the
class. Instructional objectives map out the directions in which teaching leads and,
then, become the focus of instruction. This not only assists the focus and
understanding for the teachers, but also for the students. Without instructional
objectives, education is as a tumbling leaf whose endpoint is reliant on on the will of
the wind. Educators will be following the unknown in order to achieve
The Importance Of Grief Counseling
Grief counseling is a much needed field in the new millennia. As population grow
and expand, races collide in culture, religion, and grief. It is imperative that Pastors,
leaders, and average society understand the dynamics of grief and suffering. More
important, counselors must learn how to balance their lives and the ones they chose
to consul. Griefcounselors need to be compassionate, attentive, yet balanced in order
to be an effective treatment for their clients. Understanding how to conduct an
assessment and intervene with bereaved children, adolescents, adults, and families
are important skills for professionals working in the field of social work, nursing,
school and pastoral counseling, psychology, and other helping professions
(Pomeroy, Garcia). A grief counselor s main objective is to help individuals or
families reach closure over the loss or death of a loved one and begin the process
of restoring their lives to a productive means. Each client or family is different and
knowing how to connect with the client s culture and religious quarries can be
draining. Yet, respect of the client s ideology is essential to creating a healing
environment. First, grief counselors must be compassionate. As the care provided to
the dying has matured over the past 30 years with the establishment of the hospice
movement, as well as Right to Die societies, it was inevitable that a new wave of
writings would be needed to explain the process of dying to generations unfamiliar

Analysis Of Vega V. Sports Bar Grill
Vega Bogeda s employee was probably acting outside the scope of his employment
when he posted the video of Underwood on YouTube.
An employer is liable for the actions of his employee unless they fall outside the
scope of employment. Williams v. Community Drive In Theater, Inc., 520 P.2d
1296, [p. 1297] (Kan. 1974). To fall inside the scope, the employee s actions must
(1) arise naturally from the course of their jobs and (2) intend to further employer s
interest and not done for personal reasons. Daugherty v. Allee s Sports BarGrill, 260
S.W.3d 869, [p. 873] (Mo. Ct. App. 2008).
Three cases are relevant to understanding this rule. In Williams, the court found a

The employee filmed Underwood within the scope of his employment, but posting
was outside the scope. The plaintiff alleges invasion of privacy and damage to
reputation, but the harms of both claims come from the act of sharing the video with
others. Had the employee not shared the video, the plaintiff probably would have no
case for damage to her reputation as the events would have stayed between the two
parties. Instead, he posted the video. Posting, rather than filming, caused the plaintiff
harm.
It is clear the employee acted within the scope while filming. As a service worker
who often closes the store, an employee should have experience with difficult
customers late at night. As such, the situation fell within the normal course of his
duties. The worker s main goal was not a personal motive, but to close the store. He
thought filming the plaintiff would incentive her to leave.
Posting falls outside the scope of employment for a few reasons. First, he posted the
video to his personal account for the purposes of entertaining online viewers. He also
knew that Vega did not approve of him being on YouTube during work hours, but did
so anyway. Finally, Vega noted embarrassing customers did not benefit the business,
but might ease personal annoyances to the worker, meaning the video helped the
posting employee to the detriment his employer.
There are a couple of counterarguments to this interpretation. First, using Daugherty,
one might

A leopard will kill its prey with one swift bite to the neck, breaking it. The largest
of the leopards is about five feet in length, with its tail adding another 3 feet and
over 200 pounds. It can range from a dark golden to a light cream color. There are
also melanistic coats, which are all black, sometimes called Black Panthers. All
leopards have the dark rosette pattern, spots on their coats, although they are not
visible on the black coats. The males are generally 20 to 40 percent larger than the
females. On average, each liter will produce two cubs, each weighing only one and
a half to two pounds. The cubs remain with their mother for 18 to 24 months. There
are over 20 subspecies in the leopard group and each one is slightly different than
the others. They are excellent climbers and can drag prey that is three times their
weight up into a tree to keep it safe from scavengers and other hunters. They are
often found hunting nocturnally, and hiding in the brush during the hot afternoons.
They can hunt in places with nearly no light because of their circular pupil which
is capable of vast dilation. They also have a superb sense of smell and the ability to
detect movement.People usually think of leopards in the savannas of Africa but in
the Russian Far East, a rare subspecies has adapted to life in th e temperate forests
that make up the northern most part of the species range. Similar to other leopards,
Osteopathic Health History
Chapter 1
History of medicine and how it affects modern health
Medicine is the scientific practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of
disease, this encompasses a variety of natural health remedies using herbs, saves, and
transmutation of various ingredients including precious metals. Throughout history
societies have medical beliefs that provide explanations for birth, death, and disease.
In early history, illness has been attributed to witchcraft, demons, adverse astral
influence, or the will of the gods! Some of the earliest records on medicine have been
found ranging from ancient Egyptian, Babylonian , Ayurvedic (the Indian
subcontinent), classical Chinese (before what we now know as traditional Chinese

The two groups had a large debate, the allopathic doctors and their medical
approach to medicine was by means of aggressively driving the disease and illness
from the patient s body. Over time the allopathic used, and promoted sale of drugs,
surgery and later radiation, they used heavy metals, and toxic metals, like mercury,
and lead to displace the original disease.
Long before the use of local anesthesia, infections, and death was common, many
patients feared the so called modern medicine and were unwilling to have this
abrasive approach to healing and feared the allopathic methods. Over time the
masses started to choose the homeopaths over the allopaths, they feared the
allopathic doctors and their medical approach to medicine was by means of
aggressively driving the disease and illness from the patient s body.
The Rockefellers had changed the laws, and the educational standards, while
modifying the licensing regulations to exclude natural medicine. The herbalist
charter almost bans the use of natural means of healing, the booming drug industry
grew out of the patients sickness and disease, the FDA was sold to the U.S. public,
stating they were to regulate the people s food and drug safety. A media campaign to
associate the incorrect natural medicine was dubbed quackery hence the word quack

Communist ideology and characters in Native Son as follows:
The novel in fact becomes extremely coherent, but both liberals and Communists

Bigger Thomas is the killer of two women: Mary Dalton, his employer s daughter,
and Bessie Mears, his Black girlfriend. Wright seems to project that Bigger s violence
is one of the effects of slavery, repression and oppression to which the Blacks were
subjected in American life, society and history right from the beginning of the system
of slavery. Through this novel, Richard Wright wants to show unjust White American
society and Negro s attitude towards this society and vice versa. Furthermore, Wright
seems to project that although Bigger is a Black man, he is a native son of the
United States. Wright added one more angle to Bigger s violent acts by opining that
Bigger would not have become a murderer if the White community had recognized
his humanity. In this respect, James Baldwin

Enbalming Essay
Ever since the beginning of mankind, civilized cultures all have one specific thing
in common. They all practice a dignified disposition of their loved ones who die. In
fact, Robert G. Mayer, author of a widely used embalming text book writes in his
text that the art and science of embalming has been performed, in one form or
another, for well over 5500 years. Of course the methods of embalminghave varied
greatly over course of time; however one important aspect for many of these
practices is the ability for our species to scientifically preserve the remains of the
dead human body. In more modern times, mankind has come to understand this
process to be known as embalming.

Embalming is broadly divided into three general categories. These three categories
and specifically designed to meet the three goals outlined in the preceding paragraph.
Without one of these categories, one, two or all three of the goals of embalming can
not be achieved. The three steps are disinfection, injection, and restoration.
The process of disinfection is ordinarily done first. The bodies orifices are sprayed
with a cleaning solution and wiped clean with cotton. Also done in this process are
what embalmers call setting the features. This is a process where the embalmer uses
choice techniques to close the mouth and eyes of the deceased and sets the features
to the natural likeness as in life. This might include rebuilding the mouth with cotton
or a mouth former. Often teeth are missing and require a great deal of time and
detail to achieve this natural life like image. It is also a common practice for many
embalmers to fully bath the remains with a disinfectant soap, however many
practitioners will choose to bath the body at the completion of the entire embalming
process.
After the remains are disinfected to meet health standards, the process of injection
can occur. Assuming the injection goes as planned, the remains will become what is
known as fixated. The proteins of the body are chemically bonded together by a

  • 1. Model Descriptive Essay Crafting a model descriptive essay about oneself can be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the task of self-reflection but also in the delicate balance between self-promotion and humility. One must navigate the fine line between showcasing personal achievements and maintaining a genuine, relatable tone. Moreover, the challenge extends to the need for introspection, as delving into one's own experiences and characteristics requires a level of self-awareness that can be uncomfortable at times. It's not just about listing accomplishments; it's about understanding the underlying motivations, lessons learned, and personal growth that resulted from those experiences. Finding the right words to convey one's personality and uniqueness is another hurdle. Striking a balance between being descriptive and avoiding self-aggrandizement can be tricky. The essay should capture the essence of the individual without sounding boastful or overly modest. Additionally, the challenge lies in making the narrative engaging and relatable to the audience. It's not just about stating facts but weaving a compelling story that draws readers in, helping them connect with the writer on a personal level. In conclusion, writing a model descriptive essay about oneself is a demanding task that requires introspection, careful word choice, and the ability to strike the right balance between self- promotion and authenticity. It is an exercise in self-expression that challenges the writer both creatively and emotionally. The Property Council of Australia has also indicated that Grade B commercial property is experiencing an increased vacancy rating, the secondary market of office property in Brisbane rising to 23% vacancy in 2016. In response to this, there has been a push from the City and Property councils to adapt such buildings into residential apartments, student accommodation, retirement living and hotels. Brisbane s 41 George Street office tower is a key example of a piece of Brisbane s Post War heritage with current potential for adaptive re use projects, with speculative plans to transform the recently sold building s 1,021sqm floor plate into refurbished offices, a hotel, residential apartments and student accommodation. The combination of the increased demand for inner city housing against high vacancy rates for office buildings is providing lucrative development opportunities for adaption into residential apartments. The forecast for house price growth in 2016 was 17% in Perth, 6% in Adelaide, 6% in Melbourne, 8% in Darwin, 19% in Sydney and 16% in Brisbane. Developers are looking towards the adaptive reuse of C and D grade office space across Australia capital cities into residential buildings. The economic prospects for adaptive reuse as residential apartments across Australian capital cities were verified by research conducted by JLL
  • 4. Ivory Coast Imperialism The European invasion of the Ivory Coast started in the early 19th century when a group of French traders created establishments in the country. They obtained territorial concessions from local tribes. By doing this, they spread French influence throughout the nation to other cultural groups that existed during the time. During the late 1800s, other European explorers ventured throughout the Ivory Coast in an attempt to create treaties with local chiefs. By the year 1893, France colonized the Ivory Coast as their own. (14) Cultural groups of the Ivory Coast were greatly affected by the colonization of France. Seen as an artistic style, Baroque was a powerful period, full of flamboyant concepts, derived to create drama. The Baroqueperiod produced many magnificent buildings, every one extremely detailed. The catholic church started the Baroque movement through their bid to reclaim their crowd. The church attempted to do this through the use of art, in the hope that it would attract people, often done through detailed buildings, but also through the use of dramatic sculptures and paintings. The Baroque period is full of compelling new ides; architects began to experiment with their buildings in many ways, one of which was their ability to theoretically captivate spaces through the movement of the facade, becoming the first movement to not build the buildings right along the boundary of the plot. Another futuristic technique used by the baroque was publicly display the buildings staircases as a key element of a building. King Afonso, the ruler of Kongo, permitted only the low class Africans to be sold as slaves. He needed the higher class for the country so he did not permit higher class to be sold. Regional rulers also supported the idea of trading slaves for resources. Back then, African states needed defense to defend their land from being taken over by others. • 11. Epictetus Case Summary An example of a case where a person believes something is possible, but in fact was not possible reminds me of this past weekend s football game. Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines. Looking at the statistics heading into the game, you d think two collegiate football teams can compete against one another, but looking at previous games, and looking at the statistics, you d then think there s no way and it s impossible that the Hawkeyes can beat the Wolverines. This issue connects with Epictetus by his idea of a stoic perspective. Epictetus believes that you should go into something with satisfaction. He would say that knowing the past games played, if you know Iowa won t win, you won t be as disappointed. You should have an idea what they re

Each case presents a unique puzzle with its own set of variables, rules, participants and setbacks. In addition, each case requires the attorney to learn new things. • 16. Effects Of Ocean Acidification Ocean acidification will not only have a negative effect on the environment, but also the global economy. The issues found with ocean acidification in the previous section of the paper correlate with the effects of ocean acidification on the economy. Marine life forms, most of which will suffer from lower pHlevels, are a large part of temperate and tropical costal regions economies. If ocean acidificationis left as is, the world will start to see declines in various marine life s population. This would spell disaster for costal economies that largely depend on fishing as a reliable commodity. Inland economies are also at risk since most likely import seafood to their local restaurants. Another aspect of the economy to factor into the equation is tourism. With potential decline in marine life populations, including coralreefs, the tourism sector would likely see a decline in tourist with the continual increase in ocean acidification. Dying reefs and less marine life would deteriorate from what makes visiting costal areas worth the trip. In addition, if no action is taken to combat ocean acidification, costal areas could potentially become political hotspots for environmental protestors, therefor making the area less desirable for a vacation spot. While the temperate and tropic zone economies will suffer, studies show that the artic region will see an increase in productivity under predicted pH levels and ocean temperatures. One study in particular estimates a 39%

Theoretical Perspective Of Realism Essay The Theoretical Perspective In order to understand the theoretical perspective, which best explains policy formulation by several world leaders we must first take several factors into consideration. Policies are formed in order to improve the country, need, and for several countries greed. Many policies are based on the perceptions of life, liberties, and care to progress as a nation. In an attempt to understand why policies have been made, understanding the person or people who make them makes theoretical perspective understandable. There are three theoretical perspectives in which world leaders identify themselves with one theory or all, based in the decision they must make. To better understand the international politics comparison of the three theoretical approaches are conducted. Realism has been viewed as the dominant perspective in International Relation theory for many years. Realist view survival as the means to create and enforce laws to protect citizens (6). The assumption in Realism can be made that the rules of the international system are dictated by anarchy; in this sense, anarchy is perceived as a lack of central government to enforce rules and protect states (6). Few in the family ever believed in the curse, giving the generational disasters of the family the name of coincidental misfortunes, the simple results of human action. Said to have been murdered by a nephew, Old Jaffrey was found in the same manner as his venerable ancestor, with blood upon his collar. Coupled with the author s expert style, these events may seem a consequence of the haunting family curse. However, as the story unfolds, we learn that the old uncle was not murdered, but died of fright, or anger, when he caught his greedy nephew attempting to secure the family fortune for himself. Similarly, the death of Alice Pyncheon was a result of her father s greed, when he sacrificed his daughter s happiness in return for material wealth. The mysterious plot style forces us to consider the possibility of Maule s curse as the evil force behind the tribulation of the Pyncheons. However, when considering the facts of each mystery, and the circumstances which caused the victims demise , it seems as though greed and avarice are the rational source and the perpetrators simply received the ultimate punishment for their crimes. Evidence does indicate that a gambling addict, like other people with addictions, will find any opportunity to gamble. This indicates that specific traits linked to an individual are more important factors with problem gambling, rather than the physical factors including how close a person is to a gambling facility, or if they have few interests or hobbies, or feel their lives lack direction. This also points to the idea that banning gambling is likelier to push problem gamblers to illegal sources, rather than controlling the behaviour. However, at a certain age, I began to more vividly remember events in my life. The first family vacation I can fully recall was a trip my family took to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. When I found out about the trip it was Christmas morning. My brother and I each got an envelope, which encased tickets to Disney World. I was ecstatic to go to Disney World because it was a childhood dream come true for me! When the day of the trip arrived, we stuffed all of our luggage into the back of our minivan and began our trip to the airport in Charlottesville, Virginia. We waited three long hours for our flight to leave Charlotteville, but we finally got onto the plane. I had a feeling of butterflies in my stomach as I waited for the plane to take off. Yet, what occurs when a situation allows an individual to react in a behaviour that doesn t follow these defining factors of human nature? In Yann Martels Life of Pi, he creates the conflict of a cargo ship sinking, and the only notable survivors on the life raft consists of a hyena, a zebra with a broken leg, an orangutan, and a 16 year old Indian boy. When we are placed in situations of desperation, we often resort to other motives that we would normally categorize as inhumane in order to survive: When your own life is threatened, your sense of empathy is blunted by a terrible, selfish hunger for survival, (133). This becomes apparent to Pi when he does not feel any sympathy towards the zebra, after the ruthless attack from the hyena. Pi has trouble coping with this behaviour as it is going against values that defines him as a person: religion and his moral obligations. This willpower to survive often blocks our sense of empathy for one another and controls our mind and our hearts. Later in the chapter, the hyena has an opportunity to attack the orangutan, but does not. This relates to the idea that theses two opposites of moral and survival instincts can co exist together, such as the rhino and the goat. Ultimately, the symbolism of the two opposite natures coexisting with one another proves that nature is filled with surprises and the need for balance of cooperation and competition is essential to survive. The way Pi acts throughout his journey suggests that having faith is one of the most important practises to learn as it can give an individual hope. Pi has a strong connection to all his practising faiths: Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Society is set to have many unspoken rules that we must abide by to

Scott Fitzgerald is an author known for his best selling book, The Great Gatsby. The story is about a man, Jay Gatsby, who was in love with Daisy Buchanan. Daisy was married to Tom, but Tom was cheating on her with Myrtle Wilson. There were two islands the story took place in: East Egg and West Egg. East Egg was the old money, or money passed down from ancestors, while West Egg represented the new money, or self made money. Fitzgerald used multiple types of symbolism in his book, and his symbolism helped the reader understand the plot. The novel is read throughout schools to teach symbolism. The book can be described as [...] satisfying as entertainment, thought provoking as a study, and increasingly rewarding the more closely it is examined. (Koster). A frequently used type of symbolism in The Great Gatsby was color. The colors symbolized in the book were white, green, yellow, blue, gold, and gray. The color white normally represents pureness or innocence. In The Great Gatsby, though, it represented a fake innocence. Daisy was always around white: white clothes, white curtains, and white rooms. Even her name was symbolized with white. A daisy flower has white petals and a yellow center. Daisy was not anywhere close to the picture of innocence; she was all about money and would try her hardest to get it. The cubs remain with their mother for 18 to 24 months. There are over 20 subspecies in the leopard group and each one is slightly different than the others. Michel Fabre comments on Wright s handling of Communist ideology and characters in Native Son as follows: The novel in fact becomes extremely coherent, but both liberals and Communists were white and alike failed to see that Wright gave priority to his point of view as a black man. (Michel Fabre, 205) Bigger Thomas is left in prison as he grew up almost alone in his childhood. He and Max, his lawyer, have failed to communicate with each other. Wright seems to project that Bigger s violence is one of the effects of slavery, repression and oppression to which the Blacks were subjected in American life, society and history right from the beginning of the system of slavery. Through this novel, Richard Wright wants to show unjust White American society and Negro s attitude towards this society and vice versa. Furthermore, Wright seems to project that although Bigger is a Black man, he is a native son of the United States. In fact, Robert G. Mayer, author of a widely used embalming text book writes in his text that the art and science of embalming has been performed, in one form or another, for well over 5500 years. Of course the methods of embalminghave varied greatly over course of time; however one important aspect for many of these practices is the ability for our species to scientifically preserve the remains of the dead human body. Embalming is broadly divided into three general categories. These three categories and specifically designed to meet the three goals outlined in the preceding paragraph. Without one of these categories, one, two or all three of the goals of embalming can not be achieved. The three steps are disinfection, injection, and restoration. The process of disinfection is ordinarily done first. The bodies orifices are sprayed with a cleaning solution and wiped clean with cotton. Also done in this process are what embalmers call setting the features. This is a process where the embalmer uses choice techniques to close the mouth and eyes of the deceased and sets the features to the natural likeness as in life. This might include rebuilding the mouth with cotton or a mouth former. Often teeth are missing and require a great deal of time and detail to achieve this natural life like image. After the remains are disinfected to meet health standards, the process of injection can occur. Assuming the injection goes as planned, the remains will become what is known as fixated. The proteins of the body are chemically bonded together by a
