The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay
Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah
Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has
changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics
have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and
experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it.
Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic
artist ( Comics Theory ). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was
published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures
of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it
cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America.
Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States
(Töpffer 2014).
Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted
(Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the Funnies
, the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ( Comic Theory ). His debut led to an
explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897.

Italian Painting From The Baroque Era
Martin Luther s Protestant Reformation had really stirred the religious pot. In the early 1600 s, the
Catholic Church responded with the Counter Reformation which propelled the Baroque movement
and its artistic aim of making Catholic theology appeal to the masses. Biblical stories with drama and
movement were some of the ways Baroque artists sought to engage the viewer. Baroque dominated
most of the seventeenth century Europe and later developed into the Rococo style later during the
eighteenth century. Begun in the 1700 s, the Rococo Era was art of the aristocracies for the
aristocracies. It was technically flashy, but without deep thought or emotional drama, the Rococo
celebrated the leisure activities of the upper class. The Rococo style is above all an expression of wit
and frivolity. Rococo style signaled the shift from Rome to Paris as the new capital of culture and
fashion in Europe. Both styles were influenced by political, social and religious factors, and there are
profound differences between the two styles. For this essay, I chose to compare an Italian painting
from the Baroque era with a French painting from the Rococo Era. The two paintings I chose to
compare and analyze are Luca Giordano s Martyrdom of St. Bartolomeo, and Jean Marc Nattier s
Terpsichore, Muse of Music and Dance.
Luca Giordano s Martyrdom of St. Bartolomeo from ca 1660 is a painting of martyrdom, in which the
human suffering of the saint is shown against a dark background. The painting is in

Codes and Conventions of Genres Essay
Codes and Conventions of Genres
A genre is a particular type of commodity . It has characteristic features that are known to and
recognised by the audiences because the same formula is reproduced many times.
Genre is a French word meaning that refers to types or categories of media products. Soap operas,
situation comedies, police series, quiz shows and news programmes are just some of the genres to be
found in television. Genres are identified by the particular conventions they use which are recognised
through regular contact. Conventions are any elements which are repeated in such a way that they
become familiar, predictable and associated in their use with a particular genre. ... Show more content

Black or female newsreaders, for example, have been appearing more frequently in recent years
therefore representing equality in society. However if generic conventions are simply repeated over
and over the films made could be dull and too predictable. The filmmaker relies upon conventions but
also mixes them with his or her own version and ideas in order to produce a successfully constructed
form of genre.
Nearly all stories in any genre are about situations which are disrupted by a problem for e.g., a
peaceful village is wrecked by robbers and one of the children is taken hostage, the villages find try to
find ways of getting the child back the good guy is used to help the narrative along and therefore
resolves the problem. The purpose of the story provides tension for the audience, as on the other hand
the audience wish the problem to be solved but on the other hand the audience want the story to
continue in order to maintain the pleasure. Narratives have to operate strategies for both moving
towards a solution and yet simultaneously putting it off by complaints.
Genres are popular because they deal with universal dilemmas and appeal to universal needs. For
example, the dilemmas could be the hero or heroine fighting to clear his or her name; good finally
overcoming evil. Genres are entertaining in their own ways

How Have Castles Changed Over Time
Castles are huge, strong houses, where kings and lords once lived with their families, soldiers and
servants. They were built to provide safety from attack and to display the owner s wealth. The first
proper castles were built in England after the Norman Conquest in 1066. They were introduced by
William the Conqueror, when he invaded England from his homeland in France. Castle designs have
changed over history. This is because of changes in technology over time. The first castles were
simply mounds of earth, and medieval castle designs improved on these basics adding ditches in the
Bailey design, which is the name given to the lay out of the castle. In Goodrich Castle the great hall
was an important status symbol. Its cheer size and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest Motte and Bailey castles were simply a wooden blockhouse placed on a mound. The rapid
construction of the Motte and Bailey castles enabled the Normans to control the conquered English.
In the 12th century Goodrich Castle, was replaced with stone. This decreased the level of destruction
during wars. As a development of Stone Keep castles, concentric castles were built from 1250
onwards. The concentric design was copied from the castles in the Middle East; knowledge and
understanding of design and structure came into England through returning crusaders (soldiers) during
the 1200 s.
The castles were built to demonstrate the strong bond between the King and his nobility. They were
seen as a reflection of a more stable and secure society with respect for law and the authority of the
government.
The castle was owned by many rich men. In 1086 the castle was owned by Godric Mappestone. In
1204 king John gave Goodrich castle to William Marshall, he built towers and more walls. Then the
castle and earldom was passed to William de Valence, the husband of Marshall s niece and half brother
to Henry III. Now it s in hands of the English

The Doctrine Of Natural Law
St. Paul opens what many hold to be his magnum opus with an apologetic. In Romans 1, Paul defends
the omnipotence of God and His justice by claiming that all men, including those who would willingly
reject God, know Him. Paul goes on to say that there is a natural order of things in this world. He
speaks of the natural relations of mankind in such a way that moves beyond simply stating that these
relations are the norm to say that they are the standard or rule against which actions can be judged.
What Paul is talking about in the opening of Romans is the natural law. He makes a natural law
argument not only for the morality of mankind, but also for the obviousness of God. The concept of
natural law has been considered by philosophers and theologians alike throughout the ages. The
Christians tradition of natural law can be primarily traced back to Thomas Aquinas. Even Augustine
speaks of the overarching law of God which supersedes the derived and subordinate law of human
rule. Despite its historical acceptance by theologians, the natural law is currently under attack from
sources both within and without the church. The problem with abolishing the natural law, however, is
not one of breaking with historical acceptance, without it there is no morality and no room for a
Christian apologetic in any sphere. Natural law is the logical conclusion that there is some sort of
inherent or built in rule that governs nature. Various categories fall under the general title of natural

Deep Brain Stimulation Research Paper
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure introduced in 1987, involving the
implantation of a medical device called a neurostimulator (sometimes referred to as a brain
pacemaker), which sends electrical impulses, through implanted electrodes, to specific targets in the
brain for the treatment of movement and neuropsychiatric disorders. Deep Brain Stimulation is a brain
surgery performed to improve a patient s quality of life. The procedure is not a cure, but it can
significantly improve otherwise debilitating symptoms caused by certain neurological disorders. Deep
brain stimulation is not a first line therapy. That means before considering this surgery, patients must
have tried medications and other therapies and not responded ... Show more content on

It has changed 100,000 s of life s drastically. Leadpoint Focus is a microelectrode recording (MER)
system for DBS procedures. The next generation technology combines performance, recording,
customizable functionality, and ease of use. Leadpoint Focus offers: Reliable performance that
increases physiological localization and improves decision making confidence, easy to use modular
design with plug and play operation, and clinical research capabilities in advanced signal recording
and processing. Besides these goals, brain stimulation is already so advanced that scientist mainly
shoot for just improving the accuracy of it. Another type of brain stimulation is Electroconvulsive
therapy (ECT) uses an electric current to treat serious mental disorders. This type of therapy is usually
considered only if a patient s illness has not improved after other treatments (such as antidepressant
medication or psychotherapy) are tried, or in cases where rapid response is needed (as in the case of
suicide risk and catatonia, for example). Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive
procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of
depression. TMS is typically used when other depression treatments haven t been working. It works
like this, during a TMS session, an electromagnetic coil is placed against your scalp near your
forehead. The electromagnet painlessly delivers a magnetic pulse that stimulates nerve cells in the
region of your brain involved in mood control and depression. And it may activate regions of the brain
that have decreased activity in people with depression. This is another form of brain stimulation that
helps change many people s lives. As I mentioned before it is to help people that go through
depression. Brain stimulation is a very useful method, but many don t know that there is different
types. There is agus

Rosalie Metaphors
The way this book is written tricks me up sometimes because it goes from talking in past tense to the
quotes being in present tense and she also refers to the readers. It was strange to read at first, but once
I got the hang of it the book was made more enjoyable because of it. Matilda seems to be in the
background the whole time. She is present, but in the background. She seems to like to keep to herself
and listened to her sister when Rosalie was around, but never makes large impressions on Agnes.
Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug.
I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a
heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was
always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her.
Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. I feel bad that her husband does not like that
it was a girl, but technically it was his fault. I feel bad for that child though. She is going to have to
grow up with a brat of a mother and probably become a brat herself because of it. ... Show more

It broke my heart to read it. I hate it when people die in books and movies. Then what Mr. Murray said

family. It made me want to cry. Then when they were talking about money it made me feel horrible for
them. I was proud of Agnes s mother for standing up to her father though. That man deserved it.

Regarding the genre of Tartuffe, Moliere made a clear definition of which is which, those rich people
and those who serves the upper class. The interaction of both the rich men and aristocrats and the
ladies and helpers is the thing that gets everyone laughing where their hired helpers tries to get into the
rich men s personal lives. And as stated earlier, Religion is also a big deal in the world of Tartuffe.
Priests and other members of the Catholic Church were considered to be a part of totally different
class that is respected and valued jut like the royalties and aristocrats. Moliere was also controversial
because of his satirical ways of writing his plays. He is so call as the enemy of the hypocrites because
he tends to show the true features of every kind of people in his plays. In Tartuffe, he made Mr.
Tartuffe as a play write who was convicted and was adopted by a rich family of Orgon. There, he was
hired to teach Orgon the art of acting, but for him to be able to enter the house, Tartuffe must first
pretend to be a religious person, as a priest to teach their family the ways and sayings of the Catholic
Church. The controversial part of play for the Catholic Church for me is the part where Tartuffe, as an
acting priest, tries to seduce the wife of Orgon, Elmire, when she have read the writings of Mr.
Tartuffe that was rejected by

Roughing it was written by Mark Twain. This book is a journal of Mark Twain and his brother s trip to

This book, journal, started when they were leaving to go to Carson City; and ended when Mark Twain
decided to move to New York instead of living in San Francisco or any part of the wild west.
In between this time he talked about how they became rich and how they lost it and how they became

Rigdon out of his seat as president. They then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to escape the Americans,
because the Americans did not have control of Utah back then. Then after they settled in Utah the
Americans came and conquered the Mexican army and the Americans gained ownership of the West

When the U.S.A. finally had control of Utah they made Brigham Young the governor of it because
they didn t want any more problems. As the leader of the Mormons Brigham Young added the doctrine

these changes may be the historic changes that have an important effect on the future. The United

Stravinsky Rite Of Spring Essay
Timpani and Stravinsky
Stravinsky s Rite of Spring and its evolutionary impact towards timpani in an orchestral setting
The musical importance and relevance of Stravinsky s compositions established him as one of the
dominant composers of the 20th century. By the early 19th century Stravinsky s score The Rite of
Spring was premiered. The Rite of Spring clearly established Stravinsky as a new and unique
composer setting him apart from his previous Russian teacher and composer Rimsky Korsakov and on
a large composer established him as the modernist he is know as today. While on a broad scale the
Rite is know as one of Stravinsky s most prolific Russian period works, Stravinsky s use of the
timpani throughout the ballet ushered in a new era of compositional method for the instrument.
Stravinsky separates himself from his predecessors (specifically his teacher Korsakov) by exploiting
the modern aspects and improvements of timpani. Stravinsky writes for a wider pitch range and by
using Stravinskian compositional methods changes the role of timpani in the orchestra by writing
melodic fragments, rhythmic ostinati and motor driven segments, and support/emphasis segments. He
also employs other special instructions and divisions of timpani writing that add to his unique ... Show

The Tax System Of The United States
Taxes are a required aid from individual incomes or business profits collected by the government that

States can be originated all the way back to the 1760s. The current tax system the country has is a
progressive tax. A progressive tax is a taxation system where higher incomes get taxed at higher
percentages than those with lower incomes. The tax system that has been proposed that the economy
should switch to is a flat tax. A flat tax is a system where all income would have to pay the same
percentage towards taxes regardless of how much money they make. This has been a major

Also, as income increases, households have more and more income that is not spent on basic
necessities and thus can afford to pay more taxes, unlike those with lower incomes. In other words, a
progressive tax helps the government gain revenue to support its society. As a result of people with
higher incomes paying more money to the government, access money can go to those people who can
t afford to help themselves. In addition, it helps create programs for medical services, fund public
education, housing assistance and other welfare programs. This revenue enhances the opportunities for
its lower and middle class citizens (History and Debate of Progressive Tax). Nonetheless, some
conservatives think that progressive tax is socialist wealth redistribution and state theft because of
what the access revenue is put towards. Conservatives also think that progressive tax is unacceptable
because it creates a sense of class warfare, where the poor and rich don t get along with each other
because of the large gap they have in taxes. They also believe the current progressive system hurts
wealthy business owners because they are the ones who create jobs, therefore they are vital to the
economy and shouldn t have to pay more because of their success. Many liberals still believe that the

The Causes Of Genocide Against The Rohingya
Rejected peoples in South Asia have been subjected ethnic cleansing as a result of newly formed
nation states throughout the 20th century. Since before Burma s independence in 1947, it is no
exception. The first reports of ethnic cleansing in Burma were as early as 1978 after the Burmese
military had attempted to deport the ethnic minority known as the Rohingya in neighboring
Bangladesh. Since then the situation has entered a continued spiral of alleged state sponsored
oppression against the Rohingya. The warning signs of genocide against the Rohingya is becoming
ever so increasing at a rapid rate over the last decade. In May 2015, the United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum issued a report stating that the deep concern that so many preconditions for
genocide are already in place. On the 6th of February 2017, the UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights officially classified that the violence against the Rohingya could be a genocide.
This conflict spans multiple generations of Burmese with a deep seeded hatred towards the Rohingya,
and creates questions that would help understand the root causes for the Rohingya genocide. Why are
the both the ethnic majority and the government in Myanmar, so driven to commit genocide on the
Rohingya minority? The answer to this question is asserted by examining the economic circumstances
in the country. Burma has faced extreme underdevelopment and corruption post the military junta
takeover in 1962. The difficult economic circumstances in the state of Myanmar are the primary
driving force for the majority to commit genocide on the Rohingya by what they view as the most
rational solution to better their economic circumstances. In order to illustrate this assertion and draw
conclusions from it, we must analyze the major economic risk factors and warning signs that have
been prevalent in Burmese history since the British colonial period. This paper will first outline who
the Rohingya people are, their origins, and their significance to Burmese history. Secondly, the
economic situation in Myanmar as well as the logic of understanding this atrocity from an economic
circumstance. Lastly, the response and treatment by the military and ethnic majority towards the
Rohingya will be

Gestalt Therapy Essay
Gestalt Therapy
I. Summary and Integration of Major Concepts
Founded by Frederick (Fritz) and Laura Perls in the 1940 s, Gestalt therapy is a phenomenological
existential methodology which emphasizes experience and experimentation. Gestalt is a German term
that means a complete pattern or configuration (p. 112). Though there are many modalities and styles
in Gestalt therapy, it is holistic in its approach uniting mind, body, and feeling (p. 112). Some concepts
at the core of Gestalt therapy are the organism as a whole , emphasis on the here and now , and
awareness (pp. 223 225). Perls believed that human beings are unified organisms (p.223) and that

of my fear and apprehension about performing as therapist and client in front of my classmates. So, as
we (the class) began our first session in Gestalt I initially felt less nervous about participating, in fact,
I volunteered to be the first client in my group during the first demonstration. Just like client centered
therapy, I had again been in a group that was assigned to Dr. Fiebert and I felt fortunate to have him
demonstrate because I knew that I would learn a great deal given his years of experience. I had learned
through the reading and class lecture that this was a therapy that called for the therapist to be creative
in getting the client to express emotions and feelings. I was anxious to see what creative techniques
Dr. Fiebert would employ. He began the session by asking me what I was aware of and I told him that
I was feeling some tension in my neck and shoulders. He then asked me to describe the tension, rate
the level of tension on a scale of 1 10, increase the tension and relate it to and experience or incident

Anti Hispanic Racism In America
When Americans think of racism, they usually think of slavery, and that racism is no longer a problem
in America. However, this is not the case. Racism is still obvious in America. Racism can be linked
directly to stereotypical mindsets of certain groups of people. Today s racism is not restricted to whites
and blacks, and it has come to define many different groups and races. Pigmentation as well as
physical characteristics and features still are influential for classifying people. It is easy to overlook
the racism that hides below the surface and is part of American life. Today, an estimate 54 million
Latinos live in the U.S. and around 43 million people speak Spanish. Although Latinos are the country
s largest minority, anti Latino prejudice is still common. Very few Americans recognize, acknowledge,
and respect the contributions of one of America s greatest ethnic groups Hispanics. Americans are
often confused as to who Hispanics really are and what they represent in America. Although the
United States is known for having a melting pot of diverse cultures, recent studies have shown the rise
of discrimination against Latinos and Hispanics immigrants. A person s legal status should not be an
excuse for mistreatment.

been the foundation of American democracy, yet despite this constitutional and moral obligation,

Compare And Contrast Africa And American Colonialism
Unfortunately, Africa and American both experienced colonialism a long time ago. Colonialism, after
all, is a political system in which an external nation takes complete control of a territory in another
area of the world. Moreover, the colonized people do not invite the colonial power, nor do they have
any say in how they are governed. Colonialism is by definition and practiced un democratic! The
displeasure experience brings them a lot of similarities, and the same time, it brings them some
differences as well. Africa and America have the similarities on what the invaders wanted from them
their natural resources. Colonial regimes concentrated on finding and exploiting the most profitable
natural resources in each colony of Africa. In mineral rich colonies, the emphasis was placed on
mining. In other territories, the colonial power identified agricultural products suitable for export to
Europe. The prominence in either case, was on developing the resources for export, not for local use
or consumption. Profits from the export of mineral and agricultural goods were also sent to Europe.
Profits that could have been used to promote social and economic development in the colonies were
not available. The small taxes levied on exports went to support colonial rule. For America, European
imported the squashes, pumpkins, and corn etc. so that their health standard grew higher. The
Europeans also loved fur, so beaver pelts were one of the exchange items as well. And later, the three
continents fell into a triangle trade system, which involved three journeys each with the promise of a
large profit and a full cargo. In reality, the journey was more complicated with ships travelling from all
over Europe carrying manufactured goods to different ports along the African coast to trade for slaves.
The ships from Africa then sailed across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and Americas to trade the slaves
for raw materials. Finally, the ships from America returned to Europe with raw materials such as
sugar, tobacco, rice and cotton. Africa and America are different in the way that the colonialism
developed. To Europeans, Africa was more like a method in the trading system. They not only got the
natural resources from it, but

Comparing The American Bill Of Independence And The...
As the flame of revolution spread throughout the world, the ideas of a better government were shared;
The American Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of the Rights of Man
show how France and America borrowed ideas during a trying time in the country. The Declaration of
Independence was written during the beginning battles of the American Revolution and not long after
France followed suit with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Similar in ideas to
the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, The American Bill of Rights was crucial in
the ratification of the Constitution because without it many of the anti federalists feared their basic
rights being taken away. All three documents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the documents were written for different causes, their overall purpose remains similar. Without
the Declaration of Independence, disgruntled colonists would not have been brought together to fight
for the cause. During the revolution soldiers stood together as one, setting brother equal to brother. In
a similar manner, the Bill of Rights united the colonists in mindset; that every man should be allowed
rights. The Bill of Rights corrected many of the wrongdoings by the English government that made
the colonists revolt, to prevent a revolution from happening in America. The Declaration of
Independence and the Bill of Rights unified the nation as a whole. It is no surprise that the Declaration
of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the American Bill of rights share many similarities. The
Bill of Rights restated many ideas from the Virginia Declaration of Rights, crafted by George Mason.
The Declaration of the Rights of Man was also influenced by Mason s ideas during the framing of the
document. Both pieces were heavily influenced by John Locke s philosophies of every man s right to
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The similarities between the documents show their close
connection in idea and

Descriptive Essay On The Abandoned House
The Abandoned house stood there, with fog rising to the sky. Lights flickered being the only light in
the dark..... The fog dragged a cold breeze, that sent a chill up my spine, this house has been here
forever and nothing like this has ever happened before, I gulped and strolled into the cold night fog.
As I approached the house, the door slowly opens and a Shadow steps towards me. The weather just
dropped like 40 degrees, I don t like this at all.
I turned on my flashlight, it was the first thing that came to my mind. As, the bright light flashed its
way on, were the shadow I saw a couple seconds ago was gone, it must have gone back into the house
have to check this out. I decided to go into the Haunted Mansion , I walked in and every step I took,
the wooden floor made a loud CREAK!!! The lights are so dim, that you can t see anything far away
into the darkness, this was literally a maze. I walked until I noticed there was a staircase heading up to
this second floor. I took a couple steps towards the stairs then All of sudden, the most creepiest sound
in history of sounds filled my ears, it was the sound of tiny footsteps of children running around... I
took one step onto the stairs and it made a huge noise. Then the running noise stopped. I listen, my
heart stopped......
The Children I heard a couple minutes ago skipping around, were now sprinting down the stairs in my
direction then, the worst thing happened, they started slowing down they started saying....

Green Cabs Case Study
MANT 303 Entrepreneurship Assignment One Green Cabs case study 1. Green Cabs has many
opportunities to grow their business into other locations and also diversify into other services (e.g.
courier services, shuttles, vans). They have resisted these opportunities to date. Should Green Cabs be
taking these growth opportunities? Why or why not? I believe the decision to expand areas of Green
Cabs opertaions is one that Callum Brown should offer more thought. Green Cabs currently possesses
strong market positions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and a distinct image with their
bright green cabs. They have recently secured priority spaces at New Zealand s three main airports
and are increasing their exposure to consumers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Publically listing his company on the share market would be a great way to raise capital through share
purchase. Investors would be attracted to the positive results Green Cabs have already achieved and
would not hestitate to buy shares in the business. This would make expansion more feasible and allow
for and easier entrance into some of harder areas. As a sole proprietor, Callum Brown is solely in
charge of the direction of the firm. The case study does not stipulate whether or not he has any
external influences to aid his decision making. As Green Cabs begins to grow, it will make Callum s
workload much heavier, and he may struggle to make the best decisions for the firm. Raising capital
through selling shares would allow positive growth within the firm as Callum Brown can afford to
hire a management team in order to make more efficient and calculated business decisions. This could
have negative effects to the business. With a strong set of values set by Callum, Green Cabs has a very
positive image which attracts customers. Introducing new management introduces new ideas and
potentially differing values. Callum is open with the fact that he doesn t desire millions of dollars from
Green Cabs. However when you have investors wanting a premium return on their shares, Green Cabs
will be required to make as much profit as possible. This could have a potentially negative impact on
their attempts to be

And memo is one of the tools used for precise and distortion free communication. The topic of our
report is Office Memo: Contrast between Theoretical Concept and Actual Practice . In this report, we
showed the differences as well as the similarities between theoretical concept and actual practice. At
first, we gathered theoretical knowledge about the office memo such as its layout and functions from
several books. Than, we entered into the practical field and collected two samples of office memo and
information about its functions from two renowned organizations. This organizations are 1. Sonali
Bank Limited 2. Social Islami Bank Limited After that, we analyzed both theoretical knowledge and
practical information about memo and contrasted between the two. We mainly focused on the layout
of memo, but also illustrated functions of memo. In case of Sonali Bank Limited, we found that more
elaborate layout of memo are used in communication. This layout is different in many ways from the
theory such as ornamental language is used. But the layout of the memo used by Social Islami Bank is
close to the theory to an extent. But in this organization, memo is used for functions that are different
from the theoretical ones. In our research, we found that every organization does not necessarily
follow the theoretical concept in case of forming and using memo.

Radioactive Boy Scout By David Hahn
Introduction The book Radioactive Boy Scout is a true story about a boy named David Hahn that
attended a Michigan high school. His goal was to set out and build a fast breeder reactor in his garden
shed. He educated himself in these things by reading popular mechanics and the golden book of
chemistry experiments. Whatever he could not get from laboratory suppliers, universities, hospitals,
and nuclear agencies, he made himself. David collected household smoke detectors and extracted
americium 24. He also got assembled gas mantle covers and pulverized them to get radioactive
thorium and took the Geiger counter in to an antique shop where he found a clock with a phial of
radium paint left in it. With a little bit of things he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David would go through medicine chest, and cabinets and gather things together like; toothpaste, soap,
medicine, cram, nail polish remover, and rubbing alcohol. He would mix everything together into a
metal bowl and stir all the contents together in an ashtray, after stirring all the things together he
realized all he had was a lifeless gray blob. So of course he added more things to it and eventually
caused the products to boil over and so David flushed them down the toilet.
Key Idea 2
David was so into science that he had no time for any other activities. Is dad tried to get him into
activities, but David never seemed interested. As David got older he tried many new things with these
things that became a lot more dangerous than just the things he was getting from the medicine
cabinets. David had a shed he worked all his experiments in that could explode. He would also work
at the side of his pool or in his room. David became in the boy scouts where he learned a lot of new
things about his experiments. He pursued in getting the atomic energy merit badge. As a final set of
tasks, David built a Geiger counter from a kit, he visited a hospital radiology unit to learn about the
medical uses of radioisotopes, constructed a model nuclear reactor. The model was built out of a juice
can, plastic pill bottles, coat hangers, soda straws, kitchen matches, and rubber bands. David s Boy
Scout education really influenced his nuclear dreams. David was finally

Guns Are Used For Self Defense Essay
Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time
Looking at data over a seventeen year time period (1992 through 2005 and 2007 through 2011), there
were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States. Of those crimes, the victims
chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million
times. Over this time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender
0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the
offender.
The idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans
use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz,
1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. If the
2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a gun
for self defense. Does that seem plausible? The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and
Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to
the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to
produce the numbers you see here. Oddly enough, their study produced no numerical rates of gun use
for self defense.
Given the sampling techniques, assumptions made, and weighting of the data, the number 0.7% is an

The House Building Methods Within The Uk
Introduction
With more interest into the industrialization of house building methods within the UK, attention has
been narrowed down to certain manufactured structural components and specifically the problems of
wet trades . Less focus has been put on quality and how efficient the assembly process on site. The
process of house building has been focused on traditional methods rather than a specific method. The
absence of standards which should be applicable for good practice, these problems can be seen on the
same site. Process documentation describes the process specifically to have certain standards, these
changes are needed to improve on the whole building environment.
The house industry within the UK has been judged negatively for lacking build quality and a slow
pace of new creative inventions (Ball, 1998). The UK is falling behind other countries which are using
improved materials and processes (Sarja 1998; Gann et al, 1999). Less considerations is taking care of
at the fitting stage while on site due to variable workforce skills. This issue has become bigger due to
the dependence on self employed workers this has hindered the creation of new inventions (Ball,
1998).
House Building Industry
The UK housing industry has been taken over by builders working privately (Bramley et al, 1995).
Creative inventions have often been placed second on level of importance this has tried to be
overcome by opposition between workers but also to keep skills up to standard (Ball, 1996,

BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, By Michael Moore
In the documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE , Michael Moore uses the South Park cartoon A
brief history of the United States to momentarily illustrate how fear has driven the history of the
United States. The narrator of the film is a bullet cartoon character and he explains how the Pilgrims
were afraid of being persecuted and sailed to the New World. When they arrived in the New World
they encountered Natives and were again afraid of them so they killed them all. After the Pilgrims
killed all the Natives, they got afraid of each other, burned witches, and killed the British in the
Revolutionary war, but they were still afraid. The Pilgrims then created the 2nd Amendment, giving
every white man the ability to keep their guns. The film then

`` The Cradle Of Freedom `` By Nathaniel Philbrick
Samuel Adams once said, It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority,
keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. In Bunker Hill, Nathaniel Philbrick
chronicles how the conflagration of the American Revolution would erupt from the embers of the past
focusing on the great impact that those involved in the infamous battle for which the book is titled and
the battle itself would have on the colonies and their fight for liberties. This is a vivid bildungsroman
for the city of Boston, teeming with new thoughts and ideals, that would face internal conflict, which
would later give the city the title the Cradle of Freedom. 1 Setting aside the legends of the revolution,
Philbrick presents not only a historic event in American history, but also the subtle, essential moments
that are not limited to 1775 but are the underpinning mechanics of overthrowing a regime that are
essentially the same today as they were in the eighteenth century; however, focusing on our mythic
Founding Fathers, many overlook the true nature of the war that is present in every revolution.2
Unlike the hackneyed stories told to us as children on the Fourth of July, the American colonies were
not victims to an overly oppressive, malevolent motherland thousands of miles away. In fact studies
have shown that the American colonies were the least taxed people in the Western world and that,
overall, the claims of English oppression boil down to nothing more

Analysis Of Martin Luther King Letter From Birmingham Jail
Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote a letter called, Letter from Birmingham Jail . This letter was written to
clergymen who criticized his nonviolent approach. It was written in 1963 during the height of the
Civil Rights movement. This letter s purpose is to show the way that King felt about his movement to
create a more equal society than what he was living in and what he thought about his nonviolent acts
contrary to the clergyman. In the beginning of this text, there is a letter from the clergymen that
critiques the protest that King led. The clergymen essentially say that King s protest is unwise and
there are better ways to fix the problem of racial friction. They write:
Just as we formerly pointed out that hatred and violence have no sanction in our religious and political
traditions, we also point out that such actions as incite to hatred and violence, however technically
peaceful those actions may be, have not contributed to the resolution of our local problems.(372)
The clergymen continue to state that the Negro community should completely stop participating in
these protests and handle the issue in the courts. The rest of the text is King s response to the
clergymen. He first states that the clergymen only mentioned the problem and not what caused it by
writing:
You deplore the demonstrations that are presently taking place in Birmingham. But I am sorry that
your statement did not express as similar concern for the conditions that brought the demonstrations
into being.(374)
He is saying that they are complaining about the fact that they are protesting in their town, but really
they should be thinking about what they are doing to cause these protests. If they were doing
something to prevent the segregation that is being protested then they would also be preventing the
protests. King then goes on to talk about the segregation in Birmingham and he writes, On the basis of
these conditions, Negro leaders sought to negotiate with the city fathers. But the political leaders
consistently refused to engage in good faith negotiation (375). Here King is responding to the
clergymen and how they told the Negroes to solve their protests in the courts. He is stating here that
the Negro community has tried that

because it s responsible about the delivery of customer value, in the case it s clear that sales staff does

Vietnam War As A Civic Duty And A True Testament
Vietnam
In the 1960s, America found itself divided among various social matters. Conformity, civil rights, and
the Vietnam war. While the older generations viewed fighting in the war as a civic duty and a true
testament to what it meant to be an American , the counterculture did not share this belief. Regardless
of how anyone felt about the war, it had escalated to epic proportions and as one citizen put it, It was
on our mind every single hour of the day (PBS CITE). Vietnam was the first war ever to be televised,
and with that came constant coverage and a growing concern from young Americans. In addition, the
military draft made matters worse by forced the youth America to fight. By 1968, the war in Vietnam
had claimed over 15,000 American lives (CITE PBS). Between the draft and the growing American
casualties, greater tension in the US was created. Young Americans had to ask themselves if the war
was worth fighting.
Opposition to the draft and draft evasion was the central plot element in Hair with Claude s indecision
of whether or not to serve his country in Vietnam a war he does not believe in (Young, 1993, p. 71).
Claude represent most of the youth of America and their confusion which was ignited by the war. His
internal conflict is depicted in the song Where do I Go : Where do I go/ Follow the children (...) Is
there an answer / In their sweet faces / That tells me why I live and die (SONG CITE). Here, Claude
talks about following his tribe as a way to make

A Beautiful Mind Essay
In the movie A Beautiful Mind by Ron Howard, John Nash is the main focus of this movie because he
was diagnosed with a serious mental disease known as schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can be described
by many different symptoms, but most cases contain illogical thoughts or hallucinations (1). This
mental disease became a prominent factor in John Nash s life during his early adulthood. At this time,
he was studying to obtain his doctorate at Princeton University. Although he had such an immaculate
knowledge, it was his mind that was his downfall. His problems began by fantasizing a roommate
named Charles Herman. This fantasy stays with him for the rest of his life. Once graduating with a
doctorate, he begins working for the Massachusetts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is not a huge indicator of schizophrenia, it still seems to be a little awkward. One of his
main characteristics throughout the movie was his seldomness. It took a major role in his college days
and his time working at MIT. In both cases, he would isolate himself to not be around people, and to
also work on his projects. I also noticed that his knowledge of what great intellect he had allowed him
to be insanely self confident, but he never showed any of it because he never spoke to anyone. A scene
in the movie that caught my eye was the part whenever Hansen and Nash were playing a game. Nash
lost and instantly emitted a dumbfounded expression, he could not grasp that he had actually lost. This
frustrated John because he thought he had calculated it perfectly, and that everything was in his favor.
His competitiveness defined him, that is what made John Nash push himself to unbelievable mental
distances. This competitiveness also lead to his fear in failure. All he knew was success, and whenever
he would fail, he would destroy himself to make sure he did not make that mistake again. His sporadic
mind allowed him to take failure and criticize himself harshly. He busted his head into a glass window
to tell himself that he was messing up and that he was a loser. It is okay to discipline yourself if you
are wrong, but not to that extreme. He used his physical outside to absorb the hurt he was feeling
mentally.
John Nash s ending to college was prompted by an

  • 2. The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it. Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic artist ( Comics Theory ). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States (Töpffer 2014). Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the Funnies , the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ( Comic Theory ). His debut led to an explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Italian Painting From The Baroque Era Martin Luther s Protestant Reformation had really stirred the religious pot. In the early 1600 s, the Catholic Church responded with the Counter Reformation which propelled the Baroque movement and its artistic aim of making Catholic theology appeal to the masses. Biblical stories with drama and movement were some of the ways Baroque artists sought to engage the viewer. Baroque dominated most of the seventeenth century Europe and later developed into the Rococo style later during the eighteenth century. Begun in the 1700 s, the Rococo Era was art of the aristocracies for the aristocracies. It was technically flashy, but without deep thought or emotional drama, the Rococo celebrated the leisure activities of the upper class. The Rococo style is above all an expression of wit and frivolity. Rococo style signaled the shift from Rome to Paris as the new capital of culture and fashion in Europe. Both styles were influenced by political, social and religious factors, and there are profound differences between the two styles. For this essay, I chose to compare an Italian painting from the Baroque era with a French painting from the Rococo Era. The two paintings I chose to compare and analyze are Luca Giordano s Martyrdom of St. Bartolomeo, and Jean Marc Nattier s Terpsichore, Muse of Music and Dance. Luca Giordano s Martyrdom of St. Bartolomeo from ca 1660 is a painting of martyrdom, in which the human suffering of the saint is shown against a dark background. The painting is in ... • 4. Codes and Conventions of Genres Essay Codes and Conventions of Genres A genre is a particular type of commodity . It has characteristic features that are known to and recognised by the audiences because the same formula is reproduced many times. Genre is a French word meaning that refers to types or categories of media products. Soap operas, situation comedies, police series, quiz shows and news programmes are just some of the genres to be found in television. Genres are identified by the particular conventions they use which are recognised through regular contact. Conventions are any elements which are repeated in such a way that they become familiar, predictable and associated in their use with a particular genre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black or female newsreaders, for example, have been appearing more frequently in recent years therefore representing equality in society. However if generic conventions are simply repeated over and over the films made could be dull and too predictable. The filmmaker relies upon conventions but also mixes them with his or her own version and ideas in order to produce a successfully constructed form of genre. Nearly all stories in any genre are about situations which are disrupted by a problem for e.g., a peaceful village is wrecked by robbers and one of the children is taken hostage, the villages find try to find ways of getting the child back the good guy is used to help the narrative along and therefore resolves the problem. The purpose of the story provides tension for the audience, as on the other hand the audience wish the problem to be solved but on the other hand the audience want the story to continue in order to maintain the pleasure. Narratives have to operate strategies for both moving towards a solution and yet simultaneously putting it off by complaints. Genres are popular because they deal with universal dilemmas and appeal to universal needs. For example, the dilemmas could be the hero or heroine fighting to clear his or her name; good finally overcoming evil. Genres are entertaining in their own ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Have Castles Changed Over Time Castles are huge, strong houses, where kings and lords once lived with their families, soldiers and servants. They were built to provide safety from attack and to display the owner s wealth. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman Conquest in 1066. They were introduced by William the Conqueror, when he invaded England from his homeland in France. Castle designs have changed over history. This is because of changes in technology over time. The first castles were simply mounds of earth, and medieval castle designs improved on these basics adding ditches in the Bailey design, which is the name given to the lay out of the castle. In Goodrich Castle the great hall was an important status symbol. Its cheer size and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a development of Stone Keep castles, concentric castles were built from 1250 onwards. The concentric design was copied from the castles in the Middle East; knowledge and understanding of design and structure came into England through returning crusaders (soldiers) during the 1200 s. The castles were built to demonstrate the strong bond between the King and his nobility. They were seen as a reflection of a more stable and secure society with respect for law and the authority of the government. The castle was owned by many rich men. In 1086 the castle was owned by Godric Mappestone. In 1204 king John gave Goodrich castle to William Marshall, he built towers and more walls. • 6. The Doctrine Of Natural Law St. Paul opens what many hold to be his magnum opus with an apologetic. In Romans 1, Paul defends the omnipotence of God and His justice by claiming that all men, including those who would willingly reject God, know Him. Paul goes on to say that there is a natural order of things in this world. He speaks of the natural relations of mankind in such a way that moves beyond simply stating that these relations are the norm to say that they are the standard or rule against which actions can be judged. What Paul is talking about in the opening of Romans is the natural law. He makes a natural law argument not only for the morality of mankind, but also for the obviousness of God. The concept of natural law has been considered by philosophers and theologians alike throughout the ages. The Christians tradition of natural law can be primarily traced back to Thomas Aquinas. Even Augustine speaks of the overarching law of God which supersedes the derived and subordinate law of human rule. Despite its historical acceptance by theologians, the natural law is currently under attack from sources both within and without the church. The problem with abolishing the natural law, however, is not one of breaking with historical acceptance, without it there is no morality and no room for a Christian apologetic in any sphere. Natural law is the logical conclusion that there is some sort of inherent or built in rule that governs nature. Various categories fall under the general title of natural ... Deep Brain Stimulation Research Paper Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure introduced in 1987, involving the implantation of a medical device called a neurostimulator (sometimes referred to as a brain pacemaker), which sends electrical impulses, through implanted electrodes, to specific targets in the brain for the treatment of movement and neuropsychiatric disorders. Deep Brain Stimulation is a brain surgery performed to improve a patient s quality of life. This type of therapy is usually considered only if a patient s illness has not improved after other treatments (such as antidepressant medication or psychotherapy) are tried, or in cases where rapid response is needed (as in the case of suicide risk and catatonia, for example). Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression. TMS is typically used when other depression treatments haven t been working. It works like this, during a TMS session, an electromagnetic coil is placed against your scalp near your forehead. The electromagnet painlessly delivers a magnetic pulse that stimulates nerve cells in the region of your brain involved in mood control and depression. And it may activate regions of the brain that have decreased activity in people with depression. This is another form of brain stimulation that helps change many people s lives. It was strange to read at first, but once I got the hang of it the book was made more enjoyable because of it. Matilda seems to be in the background the whole time. She is present, but in the background. She seems to like to keep to herself and listened to her sister when Rosalie was around, but never makes large impressions on Agnes. Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug. I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her. Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. Stravinsky Rite Of Spring Essay Timpani and Stravinsky Stravinsky s Rite of Spring and its evolutionary impact towards timpani in an orchestral setting The musical importance and relevance of Stravinsky s compositions established him as one of the dominant composers of the 20th century. By the early 19th century Stravinsky s score The Rite of Spring was premiered. The Rite of Spring clearly established Stravinsky as a new and unique composer setting him apart from his previous Russian teacher and composer Rimsky Korsakov and on a large composer established him as the modernist he is know as today. While on a broad scale the Rite is know as one of Stravinsky s most prolific Russian period works, Stravinsky s use of the timpani throughout the ballet ushered in a new era of compositional method for the instrument. Stravinsky separates himself from his predecessors (specifically his teacher Korsakov) by exploiting the modern aspects and improvements of timpani. Stravinsky writes for a wider pitch range and by using Stravinskian compositional methods changes the role of timpani in the orchestra by writing melodic fragments, rhythmic ostinati and motor driven segments, and support/emphasis segments. Since before Burma s independence in 1947, it is no exception. The first reports of ethnic cleansing in Burma were as early as 1978 after the Burmese military had attempted to deport the ethnic minority known as the Rohingya in neighboring Bangladesh. Since then the situation has entered a continued spiral of alleged state sponsored oppression against the Rohingya. The warning signs of genocide against the Rohingya is becoming ever so increasing at a rapid rate over the last decade. In May 2015, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum issued a report stating that the deep concern that so many preconditions for genocide are already in place. On the 6th of February 2017, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights officially classified that the violence against the Rohingya could be a genocide. This conflict spans multiple generations of Burmese with a deep seeded hatred towards the Rohingya, and creates questions that would help understand the root causes for the Rohingya genocide. Why are the both the ethnic majority and the government in Myanmar, so driven to commit genocide on the Rohingya minority? The answer to this question is asserted by examining the economic circumstances in the country. Burma has faced extreme underdevelopment and corruption post the military junta takeover in 1962. The difficult economic circumstances in the state of Myanmar are the primary driving force for the majority to commit genocide on the Rohingya by what they view as the most rational solution to better their economic circumstances. In order to illustrate this assertion and draw conclusions from it, we must analyze the major economic risk factors and warning signs that have been prevalent in Burmese history since the British colonial period. This paper will first outline who the Rohingya people are, their origins, and their significance to Burmese history. Racism is still obvious in America. Racism can be linked directly to stereotypical mindsets of certain groups of people. Today s racism is not restricted to whites and blacks, and it has come to define many different groups and races. Pigmentation as well as physical characteristics and features still are influential for classifying people. It is easy to overlook the racism that hides below the surface and is part of American life. Today, an estimate 54 million Latinos live in the U.S. and around 43 million people speak Spanish. Although Latinos are the country s largest minority, anti Latino prejudice is still common. Very few Americans recognize, acknowledge, and respect the contributions of one of America s greatest ethnic groups Hispanics. Americans are often confused as to who Hispanics really are and what they represent in America. Although the United States is known for having a melting pot of diverse cultures, recent studies have shown the rise of discrimination against Latinos and Hispanics immigrants. The wind bites at my nose, yet I do not feel the cold. These days, I am the cold in the breeze. I feel Alex distancing from me. Perhaps he does not want to freeze. He has found love with Tita s niece, Esperanza. They are so young. I wish my son the utmost happiness. I pray to God that his love does not end the way mine did. Was I not passionate enough? Was my love not good enough? I wonder if there is anyone in this world besides my dearest wife who would accept a love like mine. What was so wrong with it, that it was denied? I want to rip my heart out. I feel so lonely sometimes. I have tried all the natural remedies of my grandmother and nothing helps. My matches have not been alight in so long, I feel as if they will never be set aflame again. An old man like me will not find love this late in his life. I do not think there is any living woman that can breathe a universe into me the way Tita ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Compare And Contrast Africa And American Colonialism Unfortunately, Africa and American both experienced colonialism a long time ago. Colonialism, after all, is a political system in which an external nation takes complete control of a territory in another area of the world. Moreover, the colonized people do not invite the colonial power, nor do they have any say in how they are governed. Colonialism is by definition and practiced un democratic! The displeasure experience brings them a lot of similarities, and the same time, it brings them some differences as well. Africa and America have the similarities on what the invaders wanted from them their natural resources. Colonial regimes concentrated on finding and exploiting the most profitable natural resources in each colony of Africa. In mineral rich colonies, the emphasis was placed on mining. In other territories, the colonial power identified agricultural products suitable for export to Europe. The prominence in either case, was on developing the resources for export, not for local use or consumption. Profits from the export of mineral and agricultural goods were also sent to Europe. Profits that could have been used to promote social and economic development in the colonies were not available. The small taxes levied on exports went to support colonial rule. For America, European imported the squashes, pumpkins, and corn etc. so that their health standard grew higher. The Europeans also loved fur, so beaver pelts were one of the exchange items as well. And later, the three continents fell into a triangle trade system, which involved three journeys each with the promise of a large profit and a full cargo. In reality, the journey was more complicated with ships travelling from all over Europe carrying manufactured goods to different ports along the African coast to trade for slaves. The ships from Africa then sailed across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and Americas to trade the slaves for raw materials. Finally, the ships from America returned to Europe with raw materials such as sugar, tobacco, rice and cotton. Africa and America are different in the way that the colonialism developed. To Europeans, Africa was more like a method in the trading system. They not only got the natural resources from it, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the flame of revolution spread throughout the world, the ideas of a better government were shared; The American Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of the Rights of Man show how France and America borrowed ideas during a trying time in the country. The Declaration of Independence was written during the beginning battles of the American Revolution and not long after France followed suit with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. The Bill of Rights corrected many of the wrongdoings by the English government that made the colonists revolt, to prevent a revolution from happening in America. The Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights unified the nation as a whole. It is no surprise that the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the American Bill of rights share many similarities. • 21. Descriptive Essay On The Abandoned House The Abandoned house stood there, with fog rising to the sky. Lights flickered being the only light in the dark..... The fog dragged a cold breeze, that sent a chill up my spine, this house has been here forever and nothing like this has ever happened before, I gulped and strolled into the cold night fog. As I approached the house, the door slowly opens and a Shadow steps towards me. The weather just dropped like 40 degrees, I don t like this at all. I turned on my flashlight, it was the first thing that came to my mind. As, the bright light flashed its way on, were the shadow I saw a couple seconds ago was gone, it must have gone back into the house have to check this out. I decided to go into the Haunted Mansion , I walked in and every step I took, the wooden floor made a loud CREAK!!! The lights are so dim, that you can t see anything far away into the darkness, this was literally a maze. I walked until I noticed there was a staircase heading up to this second floor. I took a couple steps towards the stairs then All of sudden, the most creepiest sound in history of sounds filled my ears, it was the sound of tiny footsteps of children running around... I took one step onto the stairs and it made a huge noise. Then the running noise stopped. I listen, my heart stopped...... His goal was to set out and build a fast breeder reactor in his garden shed. He educated himself in these things by reading popular mechanics and the golden book of chemistry experiments. Whatever he could not get from laboratory suppliers, universities, hospitals, and nuclear agencies, he made himself. David collected household smoke detectors and extracted americium 24. • 26. Guns Are Used For Self Defense Essay Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time Looking at data over a seventeen year time period (1992 through 2005 and 2007 through 2011), there were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States. Of those crimes, the victims chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million times. Over this time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender 0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the offender. The idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz, 1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. If the 2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a gun for self defense. Does that seem plausible? The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to produce the numbers you see here. Oddly enough, their study produced no numerical rates of gun use for self defense. Given the sampling techniques, assumptions made, and weighting of the data, the number 0.7% is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The House Building Methods Within The Uk Introduction With more interest into the industrialization of house building methods within the UK, attention has been narrowed down to certain manufactured structural components and specifically the problems of wet trades . Less focus has been put on quality and how efficient the assembly process on site. The process of house building has been focused on traditional methods rather than a specific method. The absence of standards which should be applicable for good practice, these problems can be seen on the same site. Process documentation describes the process specifically to have certain standards, these changes are needed to improve on the whole building environment. The house industry within the UK has been judged negatively for lacking build quality and a slow pace of new creative inventions (Ball, 1998). The UK is falling behind other countries which are using improved materials and processes (Sarja 1998; Gann et al, 1999). Less considerations is taking care of at the fitting stage while on site due to variable workforce skills. This issue has become bigger due to the dependence on self employed workers this has hindered the creation of new inventions (Ball, 1998). House Building Industry The UK housing industry has been taken over by builders working privately (Bramley et al, 1995). Creative inventions have often been placed second on level of importance this has tried to be overcome by opposition between workers but also to keep skills up to standard (Ball, 1996, ... • 29. `` The Cradle Of Freedom `` By Nathaniel Philbrick Samuel Adams once said, It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. In Bunker Hill, Nathaniel Philbrick chronicles how the conflagration of the American Revolution would erupt from the embers of the past focusing on the great impact that those involved in the infamous battle for which the book is titled and the battle itself would have on the colonies and their fight for liberties. This is a vivid bildungsroman for the city of Boston, teeming with new thoughts and ideals, that would face internal conflict, which would later give the city the title the Cradle of Freedom. 1 Setting aside the legends of the revolution, Philbrick presents not only a historic event in American history, but also the subtle, essential moments that are not limited to 1775 but are the underpinning mechanics of overthrowing a regime that are essentially the same today as they were in the eighteenth century; however, focusing on our mythic Founding Fathers, many overlook the true nature of the war that is present in every revolution.2 Unlike the hackneyed stories told to us as children on the Fourth of July, the American colonies were not victims to an overly oppressive, malevolent motherland thousands of miles away. In fact studies have shown that the American colonies were the least taxed people in the Western world and that, overall, the claims of English oppression boil down to nothing more ... • 30. Analysis Of Martin Luther King Letter From Birmingham Jail Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote a letter called, Letter from Birmingham Jail . This letter was written to clergymen who criticized his nonviolent approach. It was written in 1963 during the height of the Civil Rights movement. This letter s purpose is to show the way that King felt about his movement to create a more equal society than what he was living in and what he thought about his nonviolent acts contrary to the clergyman. In the beginning of this text, there is a letter from the clergymen that critiques the protest that King led. The clergymen essentially say that King s protest is unwise and there are better ways to fix the problem of racial friction. They write: Just as we formerly pointed out that hatred and violence have no sanction in our religious and political traditions, we also point out that such actions as incite to hatred and violence, however technically peaceful those actions may be, have not contributed to the resolution of our local problems.(372) The clergymen continue to state that the Negro community should completely stop participating in these protests and handle the issue in the courts. The rest of the text is King s response to the clergymen. He first states that the clergymen only mentioned the problem and not what caused it by writing: You deplore the demonstrations that are presently taking place in Birmingham. But I am sorry that your statement did not express as similar concern for the conditions that brought the demonstrations into being.(374) He is saying that they are complaining about the fact that they are protesting in their town, but really they should be thinking about what they are doing to cause these protests. If they were doing something to prevent the segregation that is being protested then they would also be preventing the protests. King then goes on to talk about the segregation in Birmingham and he writes, On the basis of these conditions, Negro leaders sought to negotiate with the city fathers. But the political leaders consistently refused to engage in good faith negotiation (375). Here King is responding to the clergymen and how they told the Negroes to solve their protests in the courts. While the older generations viewed fighting in the war as a civic duty and a true testament to what it meant to be an American , the counterculture did not share this belief. Regardless of how anyone felt about the war, it had escalated to epic proportions and as one citizen put it, It was on our mind every single hour of the day (PBS CITE). Vietnam was the first war ever to be televised, and with that came constant coverage and a growing concern from young Americans. In addition, the military draft made matters worse by forced the youth America to fight. By 1968, the war in Vietnam had claimed over 15,000 American lives (CITE PBS). Between the draft and the growing American casualties, greater tension in the US was created. Young Americans had to ask themselves if the war was worth fighting. I also noticed that his knowledge of what great intellect he had allowed him to be insanely self confident, but he never showed any of it because he never spoke to anyone. A scene in the movie that caught my eye was the part whenever Hansen and Nash were playing a game. Nash lost and instantly emitted a dumbfounded expression, he could not grasp that he had actually lost. This frustrated John because he thought he had calculated it perfectly, and that everything was in his favor. His competitiveness defined him, that is what made John Nash push himself to unbelievable mental distances. This competitiveness also lead to his fear in failure. All he knew was success, and whenever he would fail, he would destroy himself to make sure he did not make that mistake again. His sporadic mind allowed him to take failure and criticize himself harshly. He busted his head into a glass window to tell himself that he was messing up and that he was a loser.
