Medical Marijuana Versus Effects on the Brain
Specific Purpose Statement: To Invite my audience to explore both sides of
medicinal marijuana and the possible cause of damage to the brain.
Thesis: Marijuana has been around for many of years, but has technology proven that
it harms the brain, or have new advancements revealed this unlikely medical
discovery?
Introduction
Intro(attention getter) Brownies, brown, oozing and yummy; you take a bite and
it s all that you hoped for. Later on, while doing your homework, you feel kind of
weird, can t concentrate and feel high. You realized that the delicious brownie that
Jimmy gave you had marijuana in it. You react in one of two ways, the first is
relieved because you were stressed about homework and needed to get your daily
dose today to help with your seizures, the second is you freak out because you are
only 19 and you are afraid that it might affect how your brain develops. (Reveal
topic) There is a vast amount of debate on how marijuana affects the brain versus
how it is used medicinally. (Establish credibility) I have many friends who have
used marijuana or Cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil, to help with seizures.
Even my father, a very traditional man who doesn t approve of tattoos or piercings,
is considering using marijuana to help with his shaking. (Thesis/ summary of
points) Marijuana has been around for many of years, but has technology proven
that it harms the brain, or have new advancements revealed this unlikely medical
discovery? Together we will look at both sides, for and against, the use of medical
marijuana, but first, let s look at the history of how it even came to be.

1.Marijuana has been around for decades.
a.It is described as a greenish gray mixture of the dried flowers of Cannabis sativa as
described on The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) website in their article
titled Marijuana (2017).

14 Year Olds-Personal Narrative
One stormy dark night me and 3 of my friends were about to the unthinkable for a
bunch of 14 year olds. My friend Dave was wearing a black shirt with a black beanie
black pants and a backpack filled with things we were gonna need for what we
were about to do. My other friend joe was wearing the same thing as Dave. And my
other friend Zane was wearing the same thing as Dave and Joe. we all pretty much
wearing the same thing.
There was a reason for wearing all black. It s because their was no trespassing on
the property so that way if the cops came driving around near the house we could
easily hide. We were about to step foot on the most frightful house of all time.
We were gonna go into the old fowler house. It was supposedly haunted by one of
the old fowler residents. the house was over 100 years old so we had no problem
believing that the house was haunted. The house was hidden in the forest behind the
dancing trees. As we approached the front door of the house we immediately heard a
loud thud coming from inside the house. My friends jumped as we heard the loud
noise.
I was the brave one out of the group. I turned the doorknob to the front door so we
could enter. I could tell my friends were hesitant about going in the house. We heard
another thud from upstairs. It almost sounded as if ... Show more content on

they were all locked. We looked for a back door but there was none. But I had an idea
I always kept a bobby pin cause of an incident I had were my family was on vacation
and I was stuck in the bathroom. My idea was to try to pick the lock with the Bobby
Pin. We snuck across the creaky floor straight to the front donor.I tried my idea but
then I remembered that I m not very good with picking locks. I ve only done it once

Lab Report 9 Bleach Oxidation Essays
Bleach Oxidation of 9 Hydroxyfluorene
The purpose of this experiment was to oxidize an alcohol (9 hydroxyfluorene) to a
ketone (9 fluorenone) using aqueous sodium hypochlorite (bleach) as the oxidizing
agent, while introducing techniques used in microscale experiments.
Reaction:
Results
1. Recrystallized Product Yield
Product yield = (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100%
3mL 9 hydroxyfluorene x (1mL/1000mL) x (0.09 mol/L) = 2.7 x 10 4 moles
0.05g 9 fluorenone / (180.20g/mol) = 2.77 x 10 4 moles
Product yield: (0.000277 mol/0.00027 mol) x 100 = 102.5% yield
*Note: A recording mistake was made in the lab notebook, where the final product
was supposed to be 0.05g (calculations above) and not 0.55g (calculations below).
0.55g ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The range determined in the experiment is approximately 2 degrees above the
actual melting point range, indicating some impurities in the final compound.
According to the IR spectrum, the product obtained is quite pure. The peaks in the
table above indicate the presence of a carbonyl, specifically the C=O bond of a cyclic
ketone and also the sp2 hybridized =C H bond of an alkene. There is no broad peak
ranging from 3200 cm 1 3600 cm 1, which would indicate the presence of the OH
group of an alcohol. Thus, there is likely no presence of starting material in the final
product. The percent yield above 100% indicates that some liquid (hexanes) used to
recrystallize the product was likely still in the flask when the product was weighed.
2. Price of Reagents
Jones Oxidation: 0.00027 moles of 9 hydroxyfluorene requires:
(.00027 mol)(1.1) / (2M) = .1485 L of 2M CrO3 in H2SO4. That would be 14.85mL.
Therefore, ($88.70)(14.85/25) = $52.69
PCC Oxidation: .00027 moles of PCC would weigh: (.00027mol)(1.1)(215.56g/mol)
= 0.064g. This costs ($25.20)(.064/25)= $0.06
Swern Oxidation: (0.00027 mol)(1.1)(78.13 g/mol) / (1.1 g/mL) = 0.02 mL of
DMSO. ($28.70)(.02/100) = $0.01
(.00027 mol)(3)(101.2 g/mol)/(.725 g/mL) = 0.11 mL of Et3N
($24.50)(.11/100) = $0.27
(.00027 mol)(1.1)(126.93 g/mol) = 0.038g of Oxalyl chloride
($51.90)(.038/25) = $0.08
Total cost: 0.01+0.27+0.08 = $0.36
Bleach Oxidation: (.00027
Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution
Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only
putting marine life at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to
the habitat and still today we haven t stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into
the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of the Army dumped a lot of
chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the water
becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of
fish, it wasn t until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish
floating on the surface. Many people think that oil spills and trash are the only types
of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about chemical, bacterial and thermal
pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or infections, especially
if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink
water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our
food chain if they carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have
been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but
they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. The
government, instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like building walls or
building more towers and creating more trash they should build trash contractors that
will help with the trash floating around in the seas. There are

Chapter Two Summary
When news of Magellan s planned voyage reaches King Manuel, he becomes
alarmed. Fearing the possibility of a successful Spanish voyage and the loss of
Portuguese naval secrets, he sends the Portuguese ambassador Alvaro de Costa to
find Magellan. Although de Costa says the king will reconsider the request for an
expedition, this promise has a dark undertone. If Magellan and Faleiro refuse to
come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their
family and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce
between Portugal and Spain. Magellan knows that that if he accepts the offer, he will
most likely be convicted of treason and then executed, so he tactfully declines. ...

Seville is one of the greatest contemporary cities: both a commercial center, as
showcased by its thriving trade, and a religious center, home to the third largest
church in the world. As a Portuguese captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well
received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is mistaken for that of the
Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although
Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people,
foreshadowing a future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident,
as his work is far from done. He needs to purchase supplies for the journey,
including food, sailing gear, weapons, etc. The food for only the first leg of the
journey costs nearly as much as the entire fleet, so this job requires great attention
to detail. He is also faced with the task of assembling a crew, which proves to be
more difficult than usual due to his Portuguese heritage. He tries to enlist as many
Spaniards as possible, but most Spaniards do not want to sail under a Portuguese
captain. Therefore, he is forced to include many foreigners in his crew. This leads to
scrutiny amid accusations of Magellan packing his crew with Portuguese, but after
some concessions from both sides the Armada is ready to
Plastic Waste Of Plastics
Plastic waste Americans are generating more plastic trash than ever, and very little of
it gets recycled. Plastics and their byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and
waterways, and contributing to health problems in humans and animals.Plastic
pollution is one of the greatest threats to ocean health worldwide. In spite of society
s many efforts to properly dispose of plastic waste, between 4 and 12 million metric
tons of plastic waste enter the ocean each year enough to cover every foot of
coastline on the planet. And that amount is expected to more than double in the next
10 years Stop using plastic straws, even in restaurants. If a straw is a must, purchase
a reusable stainless steel or glass straw.
How can you stop plastic waste
One of the easiest ways to keep plastic out of the landfill is to refuse plastic straws.
Simply inform your waiter or waitress that you don t need one, and make sure to
specify this when ordering at a drive thru. Can t fathom giving up the convenience of
straws? Purchase a reusable stainless steel or glass drinking straw. Restaurants are
less likely to bring you a plastic one if they see that you ve brought your own.The
things about plastic bags that there are 1 million plastic bags are used every
minute, and a single plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade. If you re already
bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, you re on the right track, but if you re
still using plastic produce bags, it s time to make a change. Purchase some

education that has to happen before a person can become an agent or property
manager. You ll have to prepare for getting your real estate license with an accredited
school. There are also skills that you must have that can t be taught in a classroom.
Skills of a Real Estate Agent
Great Communication
Buying or selling a home can be incredibly stressful for the client. They need an agent
who will be in constant contact with them to ensure they are kept up to date on the
dealings that happen in the market. What might seem insignificant to an agent can be
valuable information for the client. The agent has to answer questions and provide

One client might want a house in the suburbs while another wants to live in the heart
of the city. To satisfy different client needs, you ll have to take the time to understand
each individual customer and their wants.
Steps to Get Started
While each area differs in their requirements, there are some general rules that
potential real estate agents have to follow to get their license.
Academic Requirements
Agents have to have completed a Certificate IV in Property Services or other
courses that would result in an Estate Agency Certificate or Advanced Certificate in
Real Estate. Students who want to become property managers would need to
complete courses to get a property management certificate. A gold coast real estate
course will have all the courses you ll need to fulfill for your license.
Courses for Your License
There are 12 units of competency that have to be mastered before a student can
become a licensed agent. They have to learn to manage small business finances,
appraise property, learn how to list a property for lease and prepare property reports.
These course can take between 34 and 40 classroom hours to complete. It would
depend on the speed of the student and how much time they can devote to their

Critical Analysis Of Mary Daly s After The Death Of God...
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Matthew 6:9. The idea of God the
father is one that is rooted deep in our society predominantly the ways in which it
rejoices men. The almighty all and powerful God is outlined as a male figure in the
bible, constructed using almost entirely masculine language. This simple fact has
provoked men to assume the position of authority, to oversee over his family. This
simple fact leads to an imbalance of power between men and women subconsciously
oppressing women within our society. In Mary Daly s After the Death of God the
Father, Mary explains how the Judeo Christian culture has served to bring structure to
a sexually imbalanced man driven culture. This male controlled society has its
establishments in the most discernible parts of Christianity. Mary s work is a
continuation of what is known as The women s liberation movement furthering the
conversation of societies hold on a woman and bringing change. In this critical
evaluation of Mary Daly s work, I will discuss the thesis and argument of the reading,
along with an analysis of its assumptions and implications.
Though Mary Daly s work touch on many aspects of life where women are
oppressed while offering supporting content from other theorists who ironically
happen to all be males while shutting down the hyper rationalist who makes reason
absolute treating it as a God like manner. Daly s message for writing this piece is
fairly simple. This idea that God the father

Known to the world as a sex symbol and a bombshell blonde, Marilyn Monroe was
a tremendous cultural icon during her time and her influence continues to this day.
In one of her biggest movies, Some Like It Hot, she plays Sugar Kane Kowalczyk,
an innocent and charming singer who is not very bright. Given that fact, however,
she is able to steal the moment which each scene she is in. In the scene of the band

already portrays her as a star; the other band members and the patrons are covered in

OPERATION ANACONDA: JOINT OPERATION PLANNING ERRORS
Joint Operations After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Twin Towers,
the United States (US) declared a global war on terrorism. Afghanistan was the first
battleground with Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; US forces engaged enemy
combatants in effort to deter, isolate and destroy, terrorist networks. In the early
stages, unified land operations consisted mostly of special operation forces (SOF)
with support of the US Airforce, US Navy, allies and Afghan Security Forces (ASF).
This early collation was a joint effort that proved successful during the early phases of
the operation. Engagement of enemy forces successfully deterred their operational
capabilities and efforts that pushed enemy forces into Shahi Kot Valley. This
concentration of enemy forces in Shahi Kot Valley fostered the development of
Operation ANACONDA, a joint, interagency, intergovernmental, multinational
(JIIM) operation. The joint operations planning process (JOPP), employed during the
operational design failed to achieve the desired combat power necessary for
successful shaping operations and decisive action.

Global Temperature And Climate Change
Global Temperature
The Earth atmosphere energy cycle is a structure of coordinating atmospheric
components. The Köppen classification system is a simple format for generalizing
climate patterns, partitioning the planet into malleable regions by average
environmental conditions. Terms to describe the atypical fluctuations in the Earth s
climate include both global warming and climate change. While global warming
denotes an average escalation of temperature, climate change suggests a shift in the
overall pattern. Climatic zone instabilities, temperature variation, and other deviations
that may interrelate with climate are described as global change. The state of global
climatic equilibrium can be discerned through focusing on observable imbalances
such as positive radiative forcing by atmospheric gasses, temperature fluctuations,
weather phenomena and anthropologic influences.
The rate of energy change per unit area of the globe is gauged by radiative forcing.
The net gain of energy is positive radiative forcing, with the opposite being negative
forcing (SEI GGMI, 2011). According to the National Weather Service (2012), solar
energy absorbed by the atmosphere is typically offset by energy released. Positive
radiative forcing by atmospheric gasses may amplify imbalances in the global
climatic equilibrium.
Unbalanced absorption ratios signify functional discrepancies in the Earth
atmosphere energy cycle. Proportions fluctuate, but carbon dioxide (CO2) methane,
ozone, nitrous

Disadvantages of online banking include the amount of time it takes to create and
authorize your account. In most cases, you will be required to visit the local branch
to sign verification papers and provide authentic identification. I must say I disagree
with the article calling this a disadvantage. It is certainly not convenient, but I would
not call it a disadvantage. The learning curve is listed as a disadvantage. Online
banking sites can be very difficult to navigate, especially for new users.
Finally, and probably the most obvious, is the issue of trust you have in your online
banking facility. How secure is the transmission of my private information? How can
I be sure the transaction went through? Who else will have access to my information?
This trust issue and skepticism of security is by far the biggest concern of potential
online banking consumers. The Ponemon Institute is dedicated to studying ethical
information management practices and research. The institute conducted a survey
this year entitled Privacy Trust Survey for Online Banking with 2,300 participants. In
the institute s research, it is found that eighty two percent of banking consumers say
identity theft is their main concern. The next two biggest concerns are telemarketing
abuse and unauthorized

Stressors are a sort of stimulus that encourages a stressful response. In the
workplace, stressors can vary depending on the personality type, organizations
climate, management s behavior and other variables (Lussier, 2005). For example,
loud noises in a manufacturing plant or warehouse may play a role in creating a
stressful day for a laborer. Whereas, delivering two sets of twin in one day may
increase the stress level of a nurse or obstetrician.
How stress is handled by an individual is related to their personality type: Type A or
Type B. A Type A personality is fast moving, hard driving, time conscious,
competitive, impatient, and preoccupied with work (Lussier, 2005). Type B is the
exact opposite. In this case, a Type A personality may be prone to encounter more
stressful situations than someone of the opposite personality type, because of the
tendency for a Type A person to be overly active. A Type A personality would
probably choose a career that is very demanding and creates a challenging and
changing work schedule. Because of the desire to be active, such a career will
inevitably increase a Type A personality s stress level. However, just because a Type
B personality would assume be a slow paced, laid back, and less active person, stress
can also play a major role within their work environment. A Type B personality may

the frequent business travelers as their core market. By segmenting the customers,
United chose to focus on the global executives as their target market. These folks

United s revenue (Di Frisco, 2011, para. 2). By using psychographic segmentation,
Pearl Harbor Air Raid Analysis
Because of the sudden attacks, the air raid on Pearl Harbor had three very unusual
features regarding the injuries for the medical personnel to deal with. First, there
was a great number of casuaIties received at the hospitals in a short period of time;
second, many patients had been overboard at some point and were covered with
fuel oil; third, there was a very high percentage of burn cases (Hayden). How did the
hospitals handle all of these tragedies at once and remain successful?
Just 36 hours before the air raid, a lecture was given to all the medical personnel in
the area about how to handle the quantities of wounded in an attack setting. After,
they had a scenario were stress was placed on the personnel to quickly and
adequately clean wounds by soap and water, followed by the surgical removal of
lacerated or contaminated tissue. Three criteria were to be fulfilled: (1) obtaining
normal color, (2) bleeding, and (3) muscle contraction. When this was completed, the
next step was to place in the wound an adequate amount of a sulfonamide drug, either
sulfanilamide and sulfathiazole. No wounds were to be sutured, but instead left wide
open or to have nonabsorbable interrupted sutures placed, but not tied until the third

All Things Run Their Course
All Things Run Their Course Everyone has a different perception of fate, some
believe it to be a predetermined path controlled by a higher power; others believe
their actions and choices determine the outcome of their lives. In Greek mythology,
it is believed that one s destiny is controlled by three goddesses. Clotho is the
spinner of lifelines, Lachesis determines the length of each lifeline and Atropos clips
the lifelines, condemning the bearer of the severed thread to death ( Greek
Mythology). Charles Dickens manifests his belief in fate in the novel A Tale of Two
Citiesas an explanation for the inevitability of the French Revolution. The plot of A

All three books are riddled with allusions to fate, including the progression of
Madame Defarge s character. Charles Dickens uses vivid description, personification,
symbolism, and character development to illustrate that the French Revolution was
carefully orchestrated by fate and caused by strained power dynamics between the
french social classes.
Dickens uses symbolism to highlight the many attributes including steadfastness,
silence, relentlessness, power, and ill regard that characterize fate, while
mentioning it holds power over all and waits for none. The following scene occurs
immediately after the death of a peasant infant that is crushed by the carriage
wheel of the Marquis: ... when the one woman who had stood conspicuous,
knitting, still knitted on with the steadfastness of fate. The water of the fountain
ran, the swift river ran, the day ran into evening, so much of life in the city ran into
death according to rule, time and tide waited for no man, the rats were sleeping
close together in their dark holes again, the Fancy Ball was lighted up at supper,
all things ran their course. ( A Tale of Two Cities, book 2, chapter 7, page 117),

Caesar was known to be both cunning and ruthless. He had just returned from the
battlefield after killing Pompey and his sons, when the play begins. What was to
stand in his way if he really wanted the crown? Caesar s betrayal by Brutus and the
others conspirators is the main part of this play. Brutus first betrays Caesar by
listening to Cassius and Casca. In his heart he turns against Caesar, after he hears
their words and considers the thought that the
Roman Republic itself is in jeopardy. His honor and pride are manipulated to the
ends of the conspirators, but he is the main reason their plot to overthrow Caesar

Once Caesar is dead, Brutus addressed the Roman people and betrayed the legacy

Biblical Context Of The Hebrew Bible
Lydia
ATS2185
Assignment 3: Essay (40%) 1. The Hebrew Bible contains at least three different
creation myths. Discuss these different accounts, highlighting their similarities and
differences.
This essay requires the analysis of the different creation myths in the Hebrew
Bible. Before proceeding, I will first define the key term Creation and fit it into a
biblical context. According to the Oxford dictionary, creation is the action or process
of bringing something into existence. In a biblical context, the role of a divine being
is involved, and creation usually refers to the divine making of the physical world
and the universe through his divine power, wisdom and/or presence (Fortresspress,
2014). Another important term I would like to define is myth . In the context of
this essay, myth does not pertain to the notion false or fictitious story that are often
attributed to it. With relevance to ancient times, myths shall refer to traditional tales
that expresses people s perceived reality in relation to gods, their relationship with
men and their role in the universe (Sarna, 1966). The story of the biblical creation is
one that has been highly debated upon. Various creation stories have existed since
ancient Israel as people interpret and tell the stories in many ways. As such, the fact
that there is a single creation story does not exist. The lack of unanimity in the
biblical creation stories is an evidence of the various perceptions creation , making
them a
Man Who Was Almost a Man Essay
What does it mean to be a man? How does one qualify for the title? Is the term man
simply referring to male human beings, or does it hold a greater measure of meaning
in society. In order to get more insight into this subject matter, I consulted, The
Tormont Webster s Encyclopedic Dictionary . As I anticipated, the first definition for
man stated as following: An adult human being as distinguished from a female . This
definition, did not surprise me, but what did ,was what followed it , it stated: A male
human being endowed with such qualities as courage, strength, and fortitude,
considered characteristic of manhood. To be a man in our society one must posses
such qualities, along with honor, reliability and endurance. This... Show more content

In 1970, Edward F. Codd wrote a research paper entitled A Relational Model of
Data for Large Shared Data Banks. This paper introduced the idea of relational
database management software (RDBMS) to the world. It would also become the
bedrock of the company that would later be called Oracle, providing the framework
for this company to rise to power as the second largest software company in the
world.
Inspired by the possibility of creating an RDBMS system that could be sold
commercially, Bob Miner, Ed Oates, and Larry Ellison pooled their collective
knowledge to create Software Development Laboratories in 1977, which became
Oracle Systems Corporation in 1982. Fueled by successes within the governmental
sector and the foresight to write much of the code in the then revolutionary C
programming language, Oracle was able to create database software that could easily
connect with almost any available system. This launched their commercial popularity,
and has given them the freedom to pursue innovative technologies, such as Siebel
CRM, that have consistently kept them among the top five software companies in the
world.

My Definition Essay
The best part about being a human being is our ability to look into ourselves, and
see both the good and the bad. Sometimes we might see traits that we love about
ourselves, and other times we might only see things we hate, but we should be able
to see that all of it is good. This good comes from God making us in God s image; by
doing this God gives us inherent dignity, and value. And just as Bonaventure says
we can use our internal reflections like a mirror to see God. This idea really struck
me while I was reading, there is no way am I a mirror to see God. There s no way

In this text Francis describes again that we are made in God s image and likeness,
but because of this we can t take undue credit for our talents and gifts, because after
all they re not ours to take credit for they re God s. Therefore it s not a bad
reflection on myself to enjoy my witty humor; in fact it s a form of praising God.
To praise God I have to appreciate that first my wittiness helps to bring out more of
my outgoing nature. Because when I first meet someone again it might be an
awkward situation, but by making a joke I m able to alleviate some of that tension,
and get the ball rolling on our hopeful friendship. Secondly, I have to take my wit
for what it is, and as one of God s gifts to me I have an obligation to try and
alleviate the suffering of others by making them laugh. Obviously this isn t always
going to happen. But, I also feel like my wit helps me to see if I could be friends with
a person, for example if I don t make someone laugh with a joke that I find hilarious,
maybe its better for me to put my effort into a friendship else
Analysis Of The Man In Richard Wright s The Man Who
Was...
In Richard Wright s The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Dave finds himself
throughout the course of the story. Throughout the story, Dave is constantly seeking
the pleasure of obtaining and then eventually shooting a gun in order to be a man
and find himself. However, Dave does not expect the consequences that are to follow
the pursuit of pleasure. The moral of the story pertains to the role pleasure and its
consequences have in development and finding oneself. The story narrates a
common, but little talked about problem, that runs rampant in today s society. In the
story The ManWho Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright illustrates Dave s
development, or lack thereof, through the symbols of the gun, the train, and the mule.
The most obvious symbol mentioned in this story is the gun. Throughout the story,
the gun is constantly shown as a symbol for power, as well as masculinity and
independence. Several times throughout the course of the story the narrator states, If
anybody could shoot a gun, he could (Wright 222). In the fields, Dave is treated as a
child, and he believes that he is an adult and should be treated as once, which
includes owning a gun. Dave is disillusioned by the gun, and believes that it will
solve all of his problems and strengthen his weaknesses, including granting him
independence. Dave fails to realize that not being able to properly operate a gun only
relinquishes freedom. This can be further evidenced when Dave accidentally shoots
Jenny, the mule. This situation should have put an end to Dave s obsession with
power and guns, but instead he was still fascinated, demonstrating his lack of maturity
and development. Overall, the gun demonstrates the maturity, independence, and
developmental level that Dave wishes to achieve, but severely lacks.
Mr. Hawkins s mule, Jenny, represents Dave. Overall, Dave fears working on the
fields under everyone else for the rest of his life, constantly being treated as a child.
Dave connects with the mule and consciously draws connections between the two of
them such as the time Dave states, They treat me like a mule, n then they beat me
(Wright 221). Dave believes he is treated like a mule, and believes there is little hope

500 Days of Summer Essay
500 Days of Summer
500 Days of Summer shows the reality of modern day relationships; sometimes
prince charming isn t very charming at all. Barbie may not be looking for her Ken,
and surely none of them have permanent smiles stamped on their faces.
The main point of this movie is to analyze about love being a mind and will of its
own and to captures an honest depiction of the rise and fall of what is seemingly a
perfect relationship. It also emphasizes the importance of distinguishing the
difference between the reality and expectation of a relationship. In the beginning of

The director tries to steer viewers in the impression that is a sweet and delightful
movie that is an absolute bliss to watch even as they hammer home the awkward
and deeply un movie truth that being in love is a lot of damn work with, usually,
little or no reward whatsoever. The entire movie is really viewed through the lens
of Tom s perspective. The jumping back and forth in time symbolizes Tom s
memory of what happened. As the ending narration says, Most days are not special.
They begin and end with no lasting memories being formed. Which is why there are
only a select number of days out of the 500 that are showcased here. These are the
lasting memories. This is what Tom remembers, the best and the worst.
The flashbacks and forwards could easily be an unimportant gimmick, but I think
the filmmakers really have a purpose here. The way that it will show a certain
scene (like the Ikea scene) from near the end of their relationship, and show how
distant the two are; then show the Ikea scene from just a couple days after they ve
been together, creates a very interesting and realistic effect. They taint the joyful
scene we re about to watch by showing us basically the same scene with the same
characters we love, but now we see the pain and heartbreak that goes along with real
life relationships.
The movie is definitely about love. But it s also about loss, dreams, and growing up.
It also becomes an alarming reminder
Quiet Boy Themes
In addition to the idea that the Cullen s express devout loyalty to one another, it is
also important to note that they possess extreme self control in all that they do. Even
from the founding days of The Cullen s, their rule about not eating human flesh
demonstrates extreme self control. Every single day the vampires struggle between
their greatest desire, human blood, and peacefully existing in a mortal community.
This overarching theme of resisting their craving, then is played out in several
details in the novel. One specific example is when Edward restrains from his initial
lure towards Bella is when he switches out of her biology class (Meyer, Twilight, 89).

In one instance when Edward and Jacob were working together, Jacob was

been proven to be trained and can improve over time, similar to the way Carlisle is
immune to blood almost completely, there is also research that shows that
individuals who are in love are more likely to demonstrate self controls that
individuals who are in lust (Minjung). In Minjung s article, How Love and Lust
Influence Self Control, he discusses this debate. He says Forster et al. explored
various possible differences between people who were primed with love versus those
who were primed with lust; and the only difference they found was in temporal

perspective that was focused more on the future, while the lust individuals did not

Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones Essay

Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones
In the essay The Embalming of Mr. Jones, (1963), Jessica Mitford is describing a
procedure of embalming of a corpse. She writes that people pay a ton of money
each year, but not one in ten thousand has any idea of what actually takes place, and
it is extremely hard to find books and any information about this subject. She
assumes that it must be a reason for such secrecy, and may be if people knew more
about this procedure, they would not want this service after their death.
Mitford writes that embalming has long tradition in America, but it used to be
performed at home, and all members of the family had to witness the procedure. ...

When this done, the corpse s face is heavily creamed to protect from chemical burns
from leakage that can happen, a body is covered and left for eight to ten hours to dry.
The next procedure involves cleaning and cosmetic restoration of the corpse.
Before starting restoration, the body is washed, shaved, and hair is shampooed. If
the body has missing limbs, they are replaced with molds of plaster. If the head is
off, its edges are trimmed and it is sewn to the torso. After cleaning and patching
procedures, taking care of swollen parts of the face, the body is dressed, and the
mortician makes last touches. He covers the corpse s skin with pleasantly colored
make up, combs hair, and manicures the hands.
The body is now ready for casketing. Like in any business, there are some special
secrets to casketing. According to Mitford, the right shoulder of the body has to be
depressed slightly to turn the body a bit to the right and soften the appearance of
lying flat on the back. Positioning the hands and feet is as important as everything
that was done before. There are special rubber blocks that are used for this purpose.
Finally, the body is placed in the casket as high as possible, and the mortician gives
attention to the last details.
Now the body is ready for exposition and moved into a slumber room. The last touch

Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge
The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington
praying for his troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to
understand the conditions of soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge
is one of the most famous times during the American Revolution even though it was
not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were losing the Revolution and
many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I would have
been at Valley ForgeI would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many
people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the
military if three conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper
supplies and lack of belief in the cause. Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase
the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in Valley Forge during
the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin
with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND
ESSAY). Besides being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled

Envision a family wanting to go on a trip anywhere in the world. The kids really want
to go to Sweden, but they later find out that they can t afford that. London could fit in
the budget ,but that doesn t sound amusing to anyone. They thought to themselves,
There is nothing to do in Europe, especially since there is no mountains. Someone
then exclaims that they just visited the Pyrenees in Europe, and the kids love the idea.
The pictures of the mountains and landscape enhance the imagination as well. The
scenery of the Pyrenees, with its majestic peaks and broad valley is the top site for
tourists visiting Europe. Taking this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Park).
Depict the village just down below the Great Pyrenees mountains and visualize
shadows all around the mountain sides and peaks. Taking a closer look, it is a very
large, rather coarse looking figure walking on all fours. Realizing then that you
were in the midst of the Great Pyrenees dog. The Great Pyrenees dog, is a dog that
is loved and hated at the same time. When the dogs are little they are raised to
become a wonderful companion, but if they are not brought up with you they can
be very violent. A better way to meet this astonishing big dog would be to have the
dog s family introduce you to him so that he/she is more comfortable with you in
his presence. This dog shows great devotion for his family, and is typically well
behaved around the children of the family. The Great Pyrenees dog has an outer
coat that is long and coarse, the hair is usually straight and sometimes slightly
wavy. A male Pyrenees dog averages 27 to 32 inches in height, and starts at 100
pounds. Females, range from 25 to 29 inches and weighs starting at about 85 pounds.
The main responsibility of the Pyrenees dog is to guard sheep in the
International Law And International Legal Subjects
The first reading for this week was a chapter out of a book about international legal
subjects. International legal subjects include things like insurgents, national liberation
movements, international organizations, and individuals (Cassese, 124). States have
not been happy when insurgents try to enter their territory. Insurgents are rebels and
they feel as if they are dangerous. Insurgents are statelike and they have many
characteristics that states have. They do not have as many rights are states does and
their duties are limited. This chapter also discussed Sui Generis Entities, The
International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) is one of the entities explained in the
chapter. Although this entity was private it has... Show more content on

NGOs are non governmental organizations that typically operate within a country
or region internationally. Many of the NGOs are non state actors because they do
not represent a state. Also, they are different because of the influence they have on
international law making (Cali, 142). One of the main objectives for NGOs is to
influence state behavior towards people, resources, or species within and outside
of states territories . To make that happen NGOs would have to interact with
international law and institutions. NGOs has shaped the public s view on many
things. The impact they have on things such as climate change, modified food, and
nuclear proliferation is big. When keeping people up to date on things like this
helps bring countries into the spotlight. NGOs are also involved in negations once
the process of law making gets started. NGOs are basically here to influence the
important things that is happening. NGOs also play a big role in the enforcement
of international law. They basically try to develop standards and then try to get a
state to agree with them (Cali, 157). They try different ways to get a state to
comply with their idea. NGOs tries to use everything they can to get states to
change their behavior. I believe that NGOs are important because of the role they
play. The third reading I did for this week was an article on the United StatesNations
Charter. The main idea in this article is the constitution.
Use of Literary Techniques in Into The Wild, by John
Krakauer
The author skillfully uses literary techniques to convey his purpose of giving life to a
man on an extraordinary path that led to his eventual demise and truthfully telling the
somber story of Christopher McCandless. Krakauer enhances the story by using irony
to establish Chris s unique personality. The author also uses Characterization the give
details about Chris s lifestyle and his choices that affect his journey. Another literary
element Krakauer uses is theme. The many themes in the story attract a diverse
audience. Krakauer s telling is world famous for being the truest, and most heart felt
account of Christopher McCandless s life. The use of literary techniques including

Through this technique, Krakauer helps to develop Chris s personality and t
conveys the author s purpose of tell McCandless s story. One method Krakauer
uses is characterization. He uses this technique to draw parallels to himself and
the main character. The author convinces the reader just how similar he and Chris
are for example, As a youth, I am told, I was willful, self absorbed, intermittently
reckless, moody. I disappointed my father in the usual ways. Like McCandless,
figures of male authority aroused in me a confusing medley of corked fury and
hunger to please (Krakauer, 134). This quote directly describes how similar Chris
and Krakauer are. The author s goal in writing this story was to tell Chris s saga
and give life to a truly eccentric man. He succeeds by describing how both his and
McCandless s journey had a huge impact on their personality and feelings towards
society. During much of his trip, Chris avoided close relationships with people and
had very little interaction with other human beings. As the reader learns more about
the character and his life, we learn that he matured a great deal on his sojourn.
Towards the end of his journey, he realizes, happiness is only real when shared .
(McCandless, 189) By adding this quote, the reader feels sympathy for Chris because
he is in such poor condition. At this point in the novel, the reader feels connected to
the main character and his exuberant personality. Krakauer
The Qualities of the Houyhnhnm’s Civilization in...
In part 4 of Gulliver s Travels, Gulliver is abandoned on an island by his crew. As
Gulliver begins to explore his surroundings, a group of savages attack him. These
savages appear to be human, however they behave like wild animals. Gulliver is
rescued by a couple of horses. The horses are called Houyhnhnms are rational
creatures which are capable of speech and thought. The horses refer to these human
like creatures as Yahoos and treat them as wild animals incapable of reasoning.
Gulliver is very surprised how the Houyhnhnms speak to each other, while the
Houyhnhnms are equally surprised at the appearance and behavior of Gulliver. The
horses lead Gulliver back to their base where they proceed to find out more about
him. Gulliver also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gulliver points out flaws in the justice system. Gulliver fails to point out the
necessity of laws in human society and dwells on abuses of the legal system.
Gulliver describes many problems in humanity. His master gives examples of how the
Yahoos of his land acted similar to the humans. Gulliver shows how immoral
humanity is.
The Houyhnhnms are different from humans in several important ways. The horses
seem to lack passions specifically love and compassion. The horses make up for
their lack of emotions with industry and temperance. They try to encourage the
cultivation of reason. There are a few similarities in the order of societies between
the horses and Gulliver s people. An example of this is the general assembly where
the horses meet. It is a representative council which takes place every four years. This
council was created to keep balance in the Houyhnhnms society. This council is very
similar to the British parliament which was created for the same purpose, however
parliament rarely has unanimous consent on any matter unlike the Houyhnhnms
council. The Houyhnhnms have no written language. Therefore their knowledge is
passed down orally.
The Houyhnhnms are virtuous, united and governed by reason. They have almost no
emotions. They don t express sorrow when one of them dies. After spending a long
time with the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver grows very fond of their culture and lifestyle.
He becomes more virtuous and wise during his visit. Gulliver
Is Hercules One True Hero
Hercules: The One True Hero Hercules is obviously the most heroic of all of these
choices. He has never done anything wrong except for when the gods were
controlling him. Also, He had an astounding amount of courage when he
accomplished twelve impossible tasks, including killing famous beasts, entering
the underworld, and even stealing apples from Hera s golden apple tree. All of
these challenges that he completed were because he wanted to purify himself,
even though he had done nothing wrong, and he finished the challenges, even with
the queen of the gods against him. Finally, Hercules was extremely witty, as well
as strong, and deceived may people including Atlas. These reasons are why the
gods brought him up to Mount Olympus before he died Firstly, He has never done
anything wrong. He may have killed his family under the control of a raging god,
but he has never hurt anyone who deserved to live when he was in a conscious
state of mind. He was respectful to others, for example, when he did not get angry
at Eurystheus when he made Hercules do all of the impossible feats, and Eurystheus
made Hercules do two extra labors because he did not count the Hydra or the Augean
Stables as properly done. Instead, Hercules just continued with the tasks as told and
he finished those as quick as he could. Also,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He never stepped down from a challenge, from wrestling the greatest beasts on the
planet to following a stag for an entire year, just to capture it. He even entered the

Hades. Hercules even decided to pick a life of duty, which meant backbreaking work
every day, instead of a life of pleasure and leisure. He did all of these tasks with the
queen of the gods against him, in fact, when he was a few days old, Hera tried to
kill him by putting snakes in his crib. Luckily, Hercules was strong as a child, so he

Stop Up Toilet Research Paper
The primary thing ought to do when confronting a stopped up toilet is making
inquiries. Do you have any young children? Would they be able to have tossed a
little toy down the toilet? Is this a typical stop up? Has anybody dropped anything
into the toilet and attempted to flush it down as opposed to hauling it out? It is
best for you to answer me now, at that point for me to squander a large portion of a
day and afterward discover what I ought to do. After all, reality saves them cash.
Apparently, you are doing this without anyone s help, so you don t need to pose
these inquiries, yet ask those in your family if require be.
In the wake of finding the solutions, I will either utilize a plunger or a toilet auger, at
times called a snake. Standard stop up I dive, everything else I wood screw.

Haul out the auger s handle; this brings the snake part into the pole to have the

the extent you can, on the off chance that you don t go insufficiently far you will

that I can. On the off chance that the snake stall out you may need to give it a turn
while hauling out. Regularly, however, it is best to attempt and haul the auger out
without turning. In some cases, if there is for each or a toothbrush in the toilet the
snake will take hold of

Plea Bargaining
Introduction
Much of the criticism leveled at the legal system in general and the criminal justice
system in particular is well deserved, but one feature of the criminal justice system
poorly understood and thus unfairly judged by both the public and the media, is the
process of plea bargaining. Because criminal defendants have no incentive to plead
guilty as charged, and because the number of cases that would otherwise need to be
tried vastly exceeds the resources available to try them, plea bargaining is a strategy
for avoiding total gridlock.
Definitions of Plea Bargaining The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NaГЇve defendants may enter into plea agreements with prosecutors not knowing that
they have the right to litigate fully any charges against them.
However, according to the Fifth and Sixth Amendments of the United States
Constitution, no person shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness
against himself (self incrimination), and in all criminal prosecutions, the accused
shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury, to be confronted
with witnesses against him.
Advantages of Plea Bargaining There are several advantages for plea bargaining.
Some include; reducing the uncertainties of criminal trials, fewer trials and trial
delays, more convictions, and reducing the costs of trials. Some other advantages of
plea bargaining are that victims are spared either the trauma or inconvenience of
testifying, according to the nature of the case, and the prosecution is spared the risk
of acquittal.
Disadvantages of Plea Bargaining The concrete disadvantage is that there is some
reduction in the conviction offense or sentence or both, although the outcomes of
responsible plea bargaining are not dramatically different from probable outcomes
absent plea bargaining. The most significant disadvantage of plea bargaining,
however, is the abstract one it involves negotiating with criminals and rewards their
refusal to

Persuasive Essay On Homelessness
Imagine being a child and escaping your harsh home life to then be left to face the
dangers of the streets. Think about what it would be like to have to wonder where
you would sleep each night for protection or when you could find food next. While
this is only a brief thought for most people, for some children this is their life.
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, Homeless youth, sometimes
referred to as unaccompanied youth, are individuals under the age of 18 who lack
parental, foster, or institutional care ( Youth Homelessness). Youth homelessness can
stem from multiple issues such as physical or sexual abuse from families, parental
neglect and drug addictions, or even economic issues. When most people see these
children they believe there is no hope for them. However, this was not the case for
Penny Reynolds. Penny Reynolds is the founder of the Sisu Youth Services in
Oklahoma City. Penny said, I was 19 when I first experienced homelessness.
Growing up I d lived in a dozen of different apartments, attended school in 6
different cities, taken care of my mom through years of depressive, manic and
epileptic episodes and relied on my grandmother and friends fro lunch money (
About Us ). Penny wanted to ensure that children like herself had options to turn to
for help, so she began Sisu Youth. The word Sisu is Finnish for succeeding against
all odds, resilience, and bravery, which really represents Penny s attitude towards
helping these kids. Some of Sisu Youth s main values are community and
compassion for others. Because this cause struck Penny so close to the heart, she
is very passionate about helping and protecting the cities endangered youth. In an
article in News 9, Penny said It s about seeing the look in their eye when they know
that somebody cares ( Nonprofit Opens Day Center For Homeless Teenagers ).
They believe the kids who have no one to rely on should have someone to look out
for them and provide help. In today s society it is too easy for someone to turn the
other way and do nothing to help the homeless, but Sisu Youth is founded on
compassion for others and helping the members of their surrounding community.
According to Penny, In 2010 Sisu Youth started out as a
Karl Marx s Theory Of Capitalism
Through out history money, wealth and capital have dictated a way of life to the
masses. Wealth dictated the lives that the rich lived and the lives of the poor that
worked for and surrounded them. In some cultures your class could never be
escaped in life, you had to wait for your next incarnation, while in other cultures the
idea of wealth transcended a life and allowed for growth from one class to another.
This is the reality of a capitalist society that was first discussed by Karl Marxin the
19th century.
When Karl Marx first penned his shaping works on communism, he assumed that the
relationship between workers and capital would always be opposing. While most
rejected his overall theories, they did not argue with the basic idea that the interests
of workers would always be at odds with those of owners. This is one of Marx s only
theories that has proven to be true. As a consequence, over the years, that thought has
guided the marketplace in terms of deciding wages, working conditions and other
worker centered benefits.
The bourgeoisie (rich/owners class), by rapid improvement of production instruments
and by powerful means of communication, drew all, even the most underdeveloped
nations, into civilization through production. Their fast development and ability in
many cases to exploit the worker allowed them to get a foothold in the market. So
capitalism evolved into globalization. This is the major reason why all other systems,
communism included, found themselves
Facilitating And Inhibiting Factors For Learning A
Language
Facilitating and inhibiting factors in learning a language in second language contexts
Despite a marked difference in terms of their level of proficiency in English, Rodi
and Liam managed to develop the same level of proficiency (high level of
proficiency) in using Indonesian language. From their reports, summarised in Table 1
above, it is quite obvious to see that social contexts where the language is learned
constitutes a very important factor that helped both learners develop their
proficiency. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings
helped them conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable
them to cope with producing output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the
abundance of input available in the social setting is useless unless the learners make
use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor language learners
(Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise motivation
in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related
to survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to
be able to communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they
were able to maintain social relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil
their daily needs. As such, the learners perceived that learning Indonesian was
meaningful and compelling. Such perception therefore might impose a great demand

League Of German Girls Essay
The League of German Girls
Nazi Germany s future was its children. To develop the next generation of loyal Nazi
supporters, the Nazi party created the Hitler Youth in 1926 ( Party Platform, The Nazi
Party: Hitler Youth). Its female branch, Bund Deutscher Mädel (League of German
Girls), propelled Nazi ideology into the future generation by indoctrinating German
girls through absolute lifestyle regulation, including education, after school activities,
and femininity.
Upon appointment from Hitler to govern all youth, party member Baldur von
Schirach created the BDM in 1932 ( The League of German Girls, The League of
German Girls). The BDM was split into two groups: the Jungmädel for 10 14
year olds, and the League proper for 14 18 year olds. The group did not gain
popularity and mass membership until Hitler s rise to power in 1933. Widespread
Nazi indoctrination heightened in 1939 when all healthy girls of German ethnicity or
citizenship were mandated to join the BDM ( The League of German Girls, The Nazi
Party: Bund Deutscher Mädel). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Girls were indoctrinated with curriculum where all lessons were molded around the
Nazi understanding of history, biology, and geography ( The League of German
Girls, The League of German Girls). Classes were held both inside and outside of
school to teach about Nazism, Hitler, racism, and antisemitism. Homework consisted
of memorizing phrases about the superiority of the Germans and the misery of the
Jews. Before compulsory membership into the BDM, schools recruited members by
making girls fill out applications during class. The Nazi party was delighted the
indoctrination of their philosophy eliminated the girls intelligence, leaving them
unable to create views of their own. Girls grades dropped significantly because of
their devotion to the BDM and the numerous after school

have performed the transaction in honesty, and in accordance with general

have a case directly with the current possessor of the car, unless he can prove that
the above mentioned standard was not met. Another possible point to be pursued is
the tracking and validation of the car s VIN. If Martin reported the stolen vehicle,
and the VIN was listed as a stolen vehicle, it might be suggested that the dealer did
not perform the proper due diligence to verify that the car had a clean title, and not
listed as a stolen vehicle with the authorities (ncleg.net, GS_20 55,

  • 2. Medical Marijuana Persuasive Speech SPCM 200 002? Oct 17, 2017 Medical Marijuana Versus Effects on the Brain Specific Purpose Statement: To Invite my audience to explore both sides of medicinal marijuana and the possible cause of damage to the brain. Thesis: Marijuana has been around for many of years, but has technology proven that it harms the brain, or have new advancements revealed this unlikely medical discovery? Introduction Intro(attention getter) Brownies, brown, oozing and yummy; you take a bite and it s all that you hoped for. Later on, while doing your homework, you feel kind of weird, can t concentrate and feel high. You realized that the delicious brownie that Jimmy gave you had marijuana in it. You react in one of two ways, the first is relieved because you were stressed about homework and needed to get your daily dose today to help with your seizures, the second is you freak out because you are only 19 and you are afraid that it might affect how your brain develops. (Reveal topic) There is a vast amount of debate on how marijuana affects the brain versus how it is used medicinally. (Establish credibility) I have many friends who have used marijuana or Cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil, to help with seizures. Even my father, a very traditional man who doesn t approve of tattoos or piercings, is considering using marijuana to help with his shaking. (Thesis/ summary of points) Marijuana has been around for many of years, but has technology proven that it harms the brain, or have new advancements revealed this unlikely medical discovery? Together we will look at both sides, for and against, the use of medical marijuana, but first, let s look at the history of how it even came to be. Body 1.Marijuana has been around for decades. a.It is described as a greenish gray mixture of the dried flowers of Cannabis sativa as described on The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) website in their article titled Marijuana (2017). b.According to an article titled Cannabis History: Where Did Marijuana Originally Come From? written by Ab Hanna on GreenRushDaily.com, Marijuana dates back to over 12,000 years ago in present day Taiwan. Hemp, the part of the marijuana plant that is non psychoactive, or better described as the part that
  • 3. 14 Year Olds-Personal Narrative One stormy dark night me and 3 of my friends were about to the unthinkable for a bunch of 14 year olds. My friend Dave was wearing a black shirt with a black beanie black pants and a backpack filled with things we were gonna need for what we were about to do. My other friend joe was wearing the same thing as Dave. And my other friend Zane was wearing the same thing as Dave and Joe. we all pretty much wearing the same thing. There was a reason for wearing all black. It s because their was no trespassing on the property so that way if the cops came driving around near the house we could easily hide. We were about to step foot on the most frightful house of all time. We were gonna go into the old fowler house. It was supposedly haunted by one of the old fowler residents. the house was over 100 years old so we had no problem believing that the house was haunted. The house was hidden in the forest behind the dancing trees. As we approached the front door of the house we immediately heard a loud thud coming from inside the house. My friends jumped as we heard the loud noise. I was the brave one out of the group. I turned the doorknob to the front door so we could enter. I could tell my friends were hesitant about going in the house. We heard another thud from upstairs. It almost sounded as if ... I had never seen joe run so fast in my life.we tried all the upstairs Windows we even attempted the bathroom window but they were all locked. We looked for a back door but there was none. But I had an idea I always kept a bobby pin cause of an incident I had were my family was on vacation and I was stuck in the bathroom. My idea was to try to pick the lock with the Bobby Pin. We snuck across the creaky floor straight to the front donor.I tried my idea but then I remembered that I m not very good with picking locks. I ve only done it once before. The Bobby pin broke
  • 4. Lab Report 9 Bleach Oxidation Essays Bleach Oxidation of 9 Hydroxyfluorene The purpose of this experiment was to oxidize an alcohol (9 hydroxyfluorene) to a ketone (9 fluorenone) using aqueous sodium hypochlorite (bleach) as the oxidizing agent, while introducing techniques used in microscale experiments. Reaction: Results 1. Recrystallized Product Yield Product yield = (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100% 3mL 9 hydroxyfluorene x (1mL/1000mL) x (0.09 mol/L) = 2.7 x 10 4 moles 0.05g 9 fluorenone / (180.20g/mol) = 2.77 x 10 4 moles Product yield: (0.000277 mol/0.00027 mol) x 100 = 102.5% yield *Note: A recording mistake was made in the lab notebook, where the final product was supposed to be 0.05g (calculations above) and not 0.55g (calculations below). 0.55g ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The range determined in the experiment is approximately 2 degrees above the actual melting point range, indicating some impurities in the final compound. According to the IR spectrum, the product obtained is quite pure. The peaks in the table above indicate the presence of a carbonyl, specifically the C=O bond of a cyclic ketone and also the sp2 hybridized =C H bond of an alkene. There is no broad peak ranging from 3200 cm 1 3600 cm 1, which would indicate the presence of the OH group of an alcohol. Thus, there is likely no presence of starting material in the final product. The percent yield above 100% indicates that some liquid (hexanes) used to recrystallize the product was likely still in the flask when the product was weighed. 2. Price of Reagents Jones Oxidation: 0.00027 moles of 9 hydroxyfluorene requires: (.00027 mol)(1.1) / (2M) = .1485 L of 2M CrO3 in H2SO4. That would be 14.85mL. Therefore, ($88.70)(14.85/25) = $52.69 PCC Oxidation: .00027 moles of PCC would weigh: (.00027mol)(1.1)(215.56g/mol) = 0.064g. This costs ($25.20)(.064/25)= $0.06 Swern Oxidation: (0.00027 mol)(1.1)(78.13 g/mol) / (1.1 g/mL) = 0.02 mL of DMSO. ($28.70)(.02/100) = $0.01 (.00027 mol)(3)(101.2 g/mol)/(.725 g/mL) = 0.11 mL of Et3N ($24.50)(.11/100) = $0.27
  • 5. (.00027 mol)(1.1)(126.93 g/mol) = 0.038g of Oxalyl chloride ($51.90)(.038/25) = $0.08 Total cost: 0.01+0.27+0.08 = $0.36 Bleach Oxidation: (.00027
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only putting marine life at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we haven t stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of fish, it wasn t until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on the surface. Many people think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our food chain if they carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. The government, instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like building walls or building more towers and creating more trash they should build trash contractors that will help with the trash floating around in the seas. There are
  • 7. Troy Chapter 2 Summary Chapter Two Summary When news of Magellan s planned voyage reaches King Manuel, he becomes alarmed. Fearing the possibility of a successful Spanish voyage and the loss of Portuguese naval secrets, he sends the Portuguese ambassador Alvaro de Costa to find Magellan. Although de Costa says the king will reconsider the request for an expedition, this promise has a dark undertone. If Magellan and Faleiro refuse to come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their family and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce between Portugal and Spain. Magellan knows that that if he accepts the offer, he will most likely be convicted of treason and then executed, so he tactfully declines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seville is one of the greatest contemporary cities: both a commercial center, as showcased by its thriving trade, and a religious center, home to the third largest church in the world. As a Portuguese captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is mistaken for that of the Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people, foreshadowing a future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident, as his work is far from done. He needs to purchase supplies for the journey, including food, sailing gear, weapons, etc. The food for only the first leg of the journey costs nearly as much as the entire fleet, so this job requires great attention to detail. He is also faced with the task of assembling a crew, which proves to be more difficult than usual due to his Portuguese heritage. He tries to enlist as many Spaniards as possible, but most Spaniards do not want to sail under a Portuguese captain. Therefore, he is forced to include many foreigners in his crew. This leads to scrutiny amid accusations of Magellan packing his crew with Portuguese, but after some concessions from both sides the Armada is ready to

Plastics and their byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and waterways, and contributing to health problems in humans and animals.Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to ocean health worldwide. In spite of society s many efforts to properly dispose of plastic waste, between 4 and 12 million metric tons of plastic waste enter the ocean each year enough to cover every foot of coastline on the planet. And that amount is expected to more than double in the next 10 years Stop using plastic straws, even in restaurants. If a straw is a must, purchase a reusable stainless steel or glass straw. How can you stop plastic waste One of the easiest ways to keep plastic out of the landfill is to refuse plastic straws. Simply inform your waiter or waitress that you don t need one, and make sure to specify this when ordering at a drive thru. Can t fathom giving up the convenience of straws? Purchase a reusable stainless steel or glass drinking straw. Restaurants are less likely to bring you a plastic one if they see that you ve brought your own.The things about plastic bags that there are 1 million plastic bags are used every minute, and a single plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade. • 12. Critical Analysis Of Mary Daly s After The Death Of God... Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Matthew 6:9. The idea of God the father is one that is rooted deep in our society predominantly the ways in which it rejoices men. The almighty all and powerful God is outlined as a male figure in the bible, constructed using almost entirely masculine language. This simple fact has provoked men to assume the position of authority, to oversee over his family. This simple fact leads to an imbalance of power between men and women subconsciously oppressing women within our society. In Mary Daly s After the Death of God the Father, Mary explains how the Judeo Christian culture has served to bring structure to a sexually imbalanced man driven culture. This male controlled society has its establishments in the most discernible parts of Christianity. Mary s work is a continuation of what is known as The women s liberation movement furthering the conversation of societies hold on a woman and bringing change. In this critical evaluation of Mary Daly s work, I will discuss the thesis and argument of the reading, along with an analysis of its assumptions and implications. Though Mary Daly s work touch on many aspects of life where women are oppressed while offering supporting content from other theorists who ironically happen to all be males while shutting down the hyper rationalist who makes reason absolute treating it as a God like manner. Aceves OPERATION ANACONDA: JOINT OPERATION PLANNING ERRORS Joint Operations After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, the United States (US) declared a global war on terrorism. Afghanistan was the first battleground with Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; US forces engaged enemy combatants in effort to deter, isolate and destroy, terrorist networks. In the early stages, unified land operations consisted mostly of special operation forces (SOF) with support of the US Airforce, US Navy, allies and Afghan Security Forces (ASF). This early collation was a joint effort that proved successful during the early phases of the operation. Engagement of enemy forces successfully deterred their operational capabilities and efforts that pushed enemy forces into Shahi Kot Valley. This concentration of enemy forces in Shahi Kot Valley fostered the development of Operation ANACONDA, a joint, interagency, intergovernmental, multinational (JIIM) operation. The joint operations planning process (JOPP), employed during the operational design failed to achieve the desired combat power necessary for successful shaping operations and decisive action. • 15. Global Temperature And Climate Change Global Temperature The Earth atmosphere energy cycle is a structure of coordinating atmospheric components. The KГ¶ppen classification system is a simple format for generalizing climate patterns, partitioning the planet into malleable regions by average environmental conditions. Terms to describe the atypical fluctuations in the Earth s climate include both global warming and climate change. While global warming denotes an average escalation of temperature, climate change suggests a shift in the overall pattern. Climatic zone instabilities, temperature variation, and other deviations that may interrelate with climate are described as global change. The state of global climatic equilibrium can be discerned through focusing on observable imbalances such as positive radiative forcing by atmospheric gasses, temperature fluctuations, weather phenomena and anthropologic influences. The rate of energy change per unit area of the globe is gauged by radiative forcing. The net gain of energy is positive radiative forcing, with the opposite being negative forcing (SEI GGMI, 2011). According to the National Weather Service (2012), solar energy absorbed by the atmosphere is typically offset by energy released. Positive radiative forcing by atmospheric gasses may amplify imbalances in the global climatic equilibrium. Unbalanced absorption ratios signify functional discrepancies in the Earth atmosphere energy cycle. Proportions fluctuate, but carbon dioxide (CO2) methane, ozone, nitrous

In the workplace, stressors can vary depending on the personality type, organizations climate, management s behavior and other variables (Lussier, 2005). For example, loud noises in a manufacturing plant or warehouse may play a role in creating a stressful day for a laborer. Whereas, delivering two sets of twin in one day may increase the stress level of a nurse or obstetrician. How stress is handled by an individual is related to their personality type: Type A or Type B. A Type A personality is fast moving, hard driving, time conscious, competitive, impatient, and preoccupied with work (Lussier, 2005). Type B is the exact opposite. In this case, a Type A personality may be prone to encounter more stressful situations than someone of the opposite personality type, because of the tendency for a Type A person to be overly active. A Type A personality would probably choose a career that is very demanding and creates a challenging and changing work schedule. Because of the desire to be active, such a career will inevitably increase a Type A personality s stress level. United Airline s marketing firm uses psychographic segmentation, which divides customers according to their lifestyle, as a way to successfully target specific customers. United Airlines used questionnaires to classify their potential customers by their motivations and identified nine motivational segment profiles which are: global executives, schedule optimizers, corporate troopers, mile accumulators, reluctant travelers, tour takers, quality vacationers, travel seekers, and frugal flyers (The Times 100, 2003, p. 2). The reasons why travelers choose to fly United varies. For example, some may choose this airline because of price, while others choose it because of their frequent flyer program, schedules, or other services. As a legacy airline, it would not be productive for United to try and gain business from those that are more concerned with lower ticket fares. Instead, the airline chose to focus on the frequent business travelers as their core market. By segmenting the customers, United chose to focus on the global executives as their target market. These folks made up only 9 percent of United s travelers, but they represented 46 percent of United s revenue (Di Frisco, 2011, para. 2). By using psychographic segmentation,

Discuss these different accounts, highlighting their similarities and differences. This essay requires the analysis of the different creation myths in the Hebrew Bible. Before proceeding, I will first define the key term Creation and fit it into a biblical context. According to the Oxford dictionary, creation is the action or process of bringing something into existence. In a biblical context, the role of a divine being is involved, and creation usually refers to the divine making of the physical world and the universe through his divine power, wisdom and/or presence (Fortresspress, 2014). Another important term I would like to define is myth . In the context of this essay, myth does not pertain to the notion false or fictitious story that are often attributed to it. With relevance to ancient times, myths shall refer to traditional tales that expresses people s perceived reality in relation to gods, their relationship with men and their role in the universe (Sarna, 1966). The story of the biblical creation is one that has been highly debated upon. Various creation stories have existed since ancient Israel as people interpret and tell the stories in many ways. As such, the fact that there is a single creation story does not exist. The lack of unanimity in the biblical creation stories is an evidence of the various perceptions creation , making them a

Secondly, I have to take my wit for what it is, and as one of God s gifts to me I have an obligation to try and alleviate the suffering of others by making them laugh. Obviously this isn t always going to happen. But, I also feel like my wit helps me to see if I could be friends with a person, for example if I don t make someone laugh with a joke that I find hilarious, maybe its better for me to put my effort into a friendship else
  • 34. Analysis Of The Man In Richard Wright s The Man Who Was... In Richard Wright s The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Dave finds himself throughout the course of the story. Throughout the story, Dave is constantly seeking the pleasure of obtaining and then eventually shooting a gun in order to be a man and find himself. However, Dave does not expect the consequences that are to follow the pursuit of pleasure. The moral of the story pertains to the role pleasure and its consequences have in development and finding oneself. The story narrates a common, but little talked about problem, that runs rampant in today s society. In the story The ManWho Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright illustrates Dave s development, or lack thereof, through the symbols of the gun, the train, and the mule. The most obvious symbol mentioned in this story is the gun. Throughout the story, the gun is constantly shown as a symbol for power, as well as masculinity and independence. Several times throughout the course of the story the narrator states, If anybody could shoot a gun, he could (Wright 222). In the fields, Dave is treated as a child, and he believes that he is an adult and should be treated as once, which includes owning a gun. Dave is disillusioned by the gun, and believes that it will solve all of his problems and strengthen his weaknesses, including granting him independence. Dave fails to realize that not being able to properly operate a gun only relinquishes freedom. This can be further evidenced when Dave accidentally shoots Jenny, the mule. This situation should have put an end to Dave s obsession with power and guns, but instead he was still fascinated, demonstrating his lack of maturity and development. Overall, the gun demonstrates the maturity, independence, and developmental level that Dave wishes to achieve, but severely lacks. Mr. Hawkins s mule, Jenny, represents Dave. Overall, Dave fears working on the fields under everyone else for the rest of his life, constantly being treated as a child. Dave connects with the mule and consciously draws connections between the two of them such as the time Dave states, They treat me like a mule, n then they beat me (Wright 221). Dave believes he is treated like a mule, and believes there is little hope for anything

Barbie may not be looking for her Ken, and surely none of them have permanent smiles stamped on their faces. The main point of this movie is to analyze about love being a mind and will of its own and to captures an honest depiction of the rise and fall of what is seemingly a perfect relationship. It also emphasizes the importance of distinguishing the difference between the reality and expectation of a relationship. The director tries to steer viewers in the impression that is a sweet and delightful movie that is an absolute bliss to watch even as they hammer home the awkward and deeply un movie truth that being in love is a lot of damn work with, usually, little or no reward whatsoever. The entire movie is really viewed through the lens of Tom s perspective. The jumping back and forth in time symbolizes Tom s memory of what happened. As the ending narration says, Most days are not special. They begin and end with no lasting memories being formed. Which is why there are only a select number of days out of the 500 that are showcased here. These are the lasting memories. This is what Tom remembers, the best and the worst. The flashbacks and forwards could easily be an unimportant gimmick, but I think the filmmakers really have a purpose here. The way that it will show a certain scene (like the Ikea scene) from near the end of their relationship, and show how distant the two are; then show the Ikea scene from just a couple days after they ve been together, creates a very interesting and realistic effect. They taint the joyful scene we re about to watch by showing us basically the same scene with the same characters we love, but now we see the pain and heartbreak that goes along with real life relationships. The movie is definitely about love. But it s also about loss, dreams, and growing up. It also becomes an alarming reminder

Even from the founding days of The Cullen s, their rule about not eating human flesh demonstrates extreme self control. Every single day the vampires struggle between their greatest desire, human blood, and peacefully existing in a mortal community. This overarching theme of resisting their craving, then is played out in several details in the novel. Although self control is a quality that has been proven to be trained and can improve over time, similar to the way Carlisle is immune to blood almost completely, there is also research that shows that individuals who are in love are more likely to demonstrate self controls that individuals who are in lust (Minjung). In Minjung s article, How Love and Lust Influence Self Control, he discusses this debate. He says Forster et al. explored various possible differences between people who were primed with love versus those who were primed with lust; and the only difference they found was in temporal perspectives (Minjung). What Minjung means by this is that when researching love stricken versus lust stricken, he found that the love individuals had the temporal perspective that was focused more on the future, while the lust individuals did not think about the

Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones Essay Tamara Hunter Professor Chambers English 1102 31 May 2013 Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones In the essay The Embalming of Mr. Jones, (1963), Jessica Mitford is describing a procedure of embalming of a corpse. She writes that people pay a ton of money each year, but not one in ten thousand has any idea of what actually takes place, and it is extremely hard to find books and any information about this subject. She assumes that it must be a reason for such secrecy, and may be if people knew more about this procedure, they would not want this service after their death. Mitford writes that embalming has long tradition in America, but it used to be performed at home, and all members of the family had to witness the procedure. ... When this done, the corpse s face is heavily creamed to protect from chemical burns from leakage that can happen, a body is covered and left for eight to ten hours to dry. If the body has missing limbs, they are replaced with molds of plaster. If the head is off, its edges are trimmed and it is sewn to the torso. After cleaning and patching procedures, taking care of swollen parts of the face, the body is dressed, and the mortician makes last touches. He covers the corpse s skin with pleasantly colored make up, combs hair, and manicures the hands. The body is now ready for casketing. Like in any business, there are some special secrets to casketing. According to Mitford, the right shoulder of the body has to be depressed slightly to turn the body a bit to the right and soften the appearance of lying flat on the back. Positioning the hands and feet is as important as everything that was done before. There are special rubber blocks that are used for this purpose. Finally, the body is placed in the casket as high as possible, and the mortician gives attention to the last details. Now the body is ready for exposition and moved into a slumber room. Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington praying for his troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to understand the conditions of soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is one of the most famous times during the American Revolution even though it was not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were losing the Revolution and many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I would have been at Valley ForgeI would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the military if three conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper supplies and lack of belief in the cause. Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in Valley Forge during the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND ESSAY). Besides being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled with smoke. So now the soldiers had to decide if they were going to keep a fire going with the door closed causing them to choke on the smoke, not have a fire inside, or to open the door and let the cold in. None of these choices were great. In the diary of Dr. Waldo he described the soldiers housing as hard lodging and that he was smoak d

One of the main objectives for NGOs is to influence state behavior towards people, resources, or species within and outside of states territories . To make that happen NGOs would have to interact with international law and institutions. NGOs has shaped the public s view on many things. The impact they have on things such as climate change, modified food, and nuclear proliferation is big. When keeping people up to date on things like this helps bring countries into the spotlight. I disappointed my father in the usual ways. Like McCandless, figures of male authority aroused in me a confusing medley of corked fury and hunger to please (Krakauer, 134). This quote directly describes how similar Chris and Krakauer are. The author s goal in writing this story was to tell Chris s saga and give life to a truly eccentric man. He succeeds by describing how both his and McCandless s journey had a huge impact on their personality and feelings towards society. During much of his trip, Chris avoided close relationships with people and had very little interaction with other human beings. As the reader learns more about the character and his life, we learn that he matured a great deal on his sojourn. Towards the end of his journey, he realizes, happiness is only real when shared . Think about what it would be like to have to wonder where you would sleep each night for protection or when you could find food next. While this is only a brief thought for most people, for some children this is their life. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, Homeless youth, sometimes referred to as unaccompanied youth, are individuals under the age of 18 who lack parental, foster, or institutional care ( Youth Homelessness). Youth homelessness can stem from multiple issues such as physical or sexual abuse from families, parental neglect and drug addictions, or even economic issues. When most people see these children they believe there is no hope for them. However, this was not the case for Penny Reynolds. Penny Reynolds is the founder of the Sisu Youth Services in Oklahoma City. Penny said, I was 19 when I first experienced homelessness. Growing up I d lived in a dozen of different apartments, attended school in 6 different cities, taken care of my mom through years of depressive, manic and epileptic episodes and relied on my grandmother and friends fro lunch money ( About Us ). Penny wanted to ensure that children like herself had options to turn to for help, so she began Sisu Youth. The word Sisu is Finnish for succeeding against all odds, resilience, and bravery, which really represents Penny s attitude towards helping these kids. Some of Sisu Youth s main values are community and compassion for others. • 52. Karl Marx s Theory Of Capitalism Through out history money, wealth and capital have dictated a way of life to the masses. Wealth dictated the lives that the rich lived and the lives of the poor that worked for and surrounded them. In some cultures your class could never be escaped in life, you had to wait for your next incarnation, while in other cultures the idea of wealth transcended a life and allowed for growth from one class to another. This is the reality of a capitalist society that was first discussed by Karl Marxin the 19th century. When Karl Marx first penned his shaping works on communism, he assumed that the relationship between workers and capital would always be opposing. While most rejected his overall theories, they did not argue with the basic idea that the interests of workers would always be at odds with those of owners. This is one of Marx s only theories that has proven to be true. As a consequence, over the years, that thought has guided the marketplace in terms of deciding wages, working conditions and other worker centered benefits. The bourgeoisie (rich/owners class), by rapid improvement of production instruments and by powerful means of communication, drew all, even the most underdeveloped nations, into civilization through production. Their fast development and ability in many cases to exploit the worker allowed them to get a foothold in the market. So capitalism evolved into globalization. This is the major reason why all other systems, communism included, found themselves

Facilitating And Inhibiting Factors For Learning A Language Facilitating and inhibiting factors in learning a language in second language contexts Despite a marked difference in terms of their level of proficiency in English, Rodi and Liam managed to develop the same level of proficiency (high level of proficiency) in using Indonesian language. From their reports, summarised in Table 1 above, it is quite obvious to see that social contexts where the language is learned constitutes a very important factor that helped both learners develop their proficiency. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings helped them conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable them to cope with producing output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the abundance of input available in the social setting is useless unless the learners make use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor language learners (Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise motivation in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related to survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to be able to communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they were able to maintain social relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil their daily needs.
