I Want To Become An Actuary
Craig Reynolds said in an interview, You must have outstanding math, computer, and critical thinking
skills. And you must be the sort of person that never gives up. Early in your career, exams may be the
most important key to growth. Don t underestimate them. Strive for a ten on every exam. You may not
get it, but you should never strive for mediocrity ( Be and Actuary 4). To become an actuary hundreds
of hours of studying for exams is required. Actuaries attend college for four to five years and take
multiple exams in order to become an actuary. They typically will work in office settings and will
calculate the risk of an event to occur. Actuaries hold the insurance industry together.

Contribution To Quatre Gats
His fascination and skill in painting was displayed from a very early age; his first exhibition was held
when he was only 18 years old.
Quatre Gats most important center of cultural and artistic standards in modernista Barcelona. Was a
tavern and restaurant that was opened in June of 1897.
Taverns founders were Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusinol, Miquel Utrillo, and Pere Romeu who were all
Moderisme artists in one way or another
Name of tavern is Four Cats and derives from the four owners as well as pays tribute to the famous
Parisian locale Le Chat Noir owner Rodolph Salis who died a few months before the tavern opened
for business

The tavern provided him with an environment to promote his work as well as inspiration deriving
from admiring all the other artists great work that was constantly on display. In a time when Picasso
needed confidence in his ability, the men of Quatre Gats provided. This must have been really
refreshing for young Picasso mainly because the other person who was influencing his career at the
time was his father who could be hard on him and times and steer him in directions he may of not
wanted to go.
The sound of the tavern also intrigues me. I love socializing at taverns and bars and this one seems
like the ultimate environment to strike a conversation with interesting people. All walks of life went to
this tavern and when a famous artist was in town, it was a must that they visited Quatre Gats for a
drink. If I possessed a time machine, it would be insane to go back to this place in the 1900 s and

Trace the Development of English Lit During Any One...
Trace the development of English lit during any one period...As part of your discussion highlight how

from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where
you can go. This quotation may apply to the span of the Anglo Saxon period because of the coherent
linkage to the origination of the English dialect and the modernization of English Literature. Over the

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than they
would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did rule a
kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any personal goods,
including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If she were injured or
abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests (David Ross.) The
women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of beer, making of butter
and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people would travel only if it was
unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or along the river. During the early
Anglo Saxon period England was a very different place from what it is today. The human population
was very small. They grew their own food and made their own clothes... The lord and kin had the
strongest ties in the Anglo Saxon society. The ties of loyalty were to the person of a lord. There was no
real concept of patriotism or loyalty to a cause. Kings could not, except in exceptional circumstances,
make new laws. Their role instead was to uphold and clarify previous custom. The first act of a
conquering king was often to assure his subjects that he would uphold their ancient privileges, laws,
and customs (David Ross.) One of the most famous kings during the

Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler
Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford,
Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931, and is based on
a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath away. It s depicting a
place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a place where one can go to
achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used American industry as a major theme of
his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of geometric forms he examines his subject matter
so closely in order to fully understand the composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict.
Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age
booming; however, in reality the United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great
Depression. Therefore, this painting done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually
depicting what the factory actually looked like.
He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons.
Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford in
order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization . Sheeler
achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and intense
knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of humankind ,
allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human presence but not
overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence. This was
uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He focused on the
building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this switched the focus
form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the progress America was
making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to see that Sheeler chose to
depict something on cite that dealt with the

My Philosophy And Rationale In The Classroom
Philosophy and Rationale The assertiveness is a clear affirmation that both teachers and students are to
be treated with respect (Purkey, 2004, p. 100). My philosophy within the classroom, is creating and
maintaining a sense of respect; a classroom where a mutual respect between myself and the students is
seen among all who enter the classroom environment. However, with this sense of mutual respect,
students should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have
the ultimate decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur
again. I also want students to be self aware; understanding that they are in control of their own lives
and that I respect them enough to let them make their own rational decisions. Another key component
in my philosophy of the classroom, is getting to know the students on a personal level. I want to know
about their families, the sports they play, the foods they like to eat, the friends they have, and/or the
church they attend. Based on personal experience, when a teacher takes the time to know you outside
of the classroom, a great bond is built. When the bond is built, a sense of trust in created between the
teacher and student. I want my students to trust me, respect me, but know that I believe in them to
make decisions that are beneficial for themselves; through this, I will respect my students, listen to
them, and support them in the decisions they make. If we set

Family Relationships With My Family
For two year, the first year my mother left dad, we lived with my maternal grandparents. Although, I
was toddler at the time I still acknowledge their efforts and support for a period my family needed it
the most. They occasionally visited for Christmas and for four of their granddaughters quince,
including mine. I visited them four times in Mexico. Because they live in Mexico is it hard to keep
constant contact with them. But they both had a huge influence and I have great respect for them.
When they visited Nebraska, they stayed in the household for a couples of weeks. The most important
extended family relationships are with my mom s sisters and brother who reside in Nebraska.
The most important relationship outside my immediate family is with my cousin Brenda because she
is my best friend. We are only three months apart from each other and have many similarities. We
attended elementary and high school together. I honestly do not think our parents would have handle
us in the same middle school. We both attend UNL for our undergraduate. This year she moved to
Colorado for graduate school. I spend a lot of time at her house, therefore, her parents had a huge
impact on my upbringing. Her parents, my aunt Carmen and uncle Javier, would also take my sister
and I out for entertainment. Some of those include Disneyland, Worlds of Fun, and Oceans of Fun. My
aunt was very aware of my family relationship and the hostile relationship with my dad, that I think

How Did Frederick Douglass Benefit From His Education
Throughout the works of Frederick Douglass there is a prominent contradiction referring to literacy.
At times, Douglass regrets his education as it makes his slavery more difficult to tolerate. Additionally,
his education opens them up to more abuse as Harriet Jacob asserts they were living in a culture of
silence (Cutter 209). Thorough examination of Frederick Douglass writing reveals various paradoxes
within his testimony regarding his literary education; while Douglass did benefit from his education in
some way, in many other ways, it shattered his spirit and lead to a lifetime of abuse.
Douglass narrative demonstrates how his literary education is both a blessing and a curse. He believed
that permitting slaves to read was a contradiction, a paradox if you will, unable to render freedom, or
provide them a legitimate education. Douglass reasoned that the education was a ploy to let African
Americans believe they were treated fairly. Douglass expresses, As I read and contemplated the
subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning
to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish (Douglass 1200).
Douglass displays the injustice and frustration of this situation; he is fully aware that he is being
treated unfairly.
For a short time, Douglass did consider his literacy a gift. This was the first opportunity that many
African Americans had to obtain an education. Having the ability to read

The Existence Of Inter Class Friendship
The Existence of Inter Class Friendship in E.M. Forster s A Passage to India
Introduction
Interaction is the source of culture; no man is in a vacuum, each person inevitably interacts with the
other people. The interactions between people foregrounds the rise of human institution and culture in
the nation. This is also the case for different countries and nations. Interaction between different
nations has several reasons; it may be cultural, political and economic. Literature may stands for
cultural interaction. International convention may be a political one and trade is the economic.
However, of the three, literature has been more interesting since one can witness politics, culture and
economy in a literary work.
Literary works written from the beginning up to the present are shaped by the nature of interaction.
Ancient writers, in their works, deal with the idea of war and bravery. In the
Odyssey, the earliest written literary work, the second chapter is about Egypt and Phoenicia. He
depicts the Phoenicians as cruel, merciless and barbaric tribes. During the Middle Ages East has a
very similar image to that of Homer, but this time religion shapes the nature of interaction. In Chaucer,
for instance, infidels inhabit east; he calls for a crusade (Canterbury Tales). After the 15th century East
becomes the source of wealth, therefore, writers deal with East more seriously. Particularly, after the
modern era, beginning with industrial revolution, east acquires

Hayden Symphony 94 Analysis
The piece that I have decide to use is the Hayden Symphony 94. I will be using all four movements to
identify which criteria has been met by this piece. The Haydn Symphony 94 follows a form that works
for it with each of the four movements have an expressive section then a rhythmic section. Also,
during the second movement which is a theme and variation he repeated both themes but the second
time he would use a drastic dynamic change. (Criterion #1) Within movement 2 Haydn uses dynamic
contrast frequently. The first 15 measures of the piece are a succession of soft melodies then in the
16th measure Haydn places a loud note to grab the attention of the audience then he returns to his
quiets melodies. Haydn also wrote solos for the oboist and flautist, and concluding with a sweeping
and lyrical forte repeat in triplets (Symphony no. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Criterion #2) Movement 2 shows that Haydn use the different instruments families to add different
colors to each section of the piece. He starts this movement with the strings having the main theme
then adding the woodwinds to the main theme and to the accompanying parts. At certain parts of the
movement he has all instruments playing some form of the main theme. We can also here that the
main theme has moved from the high voices to the low voices throughout the movement. By the end
of the movement the we have the woodwinds completely taking over the melody while the stings are
playing the accompanying parts. (Criterion #3) Within the second movement of the symphony there is
this one loud note or chord among a group of soft chords. Once the audience has heard this once or
twice they come to predict the note because the previous nots grabbed our attention. (Criterion #4)
The expressive introduction section of movement 1 is followed by the very rhythmic section. This
shows that the music is not obvious and direct but it does set up the following movements form wise.

The Work Of Art And The Age Of Mechanical Reproduction
According to oxforddictionaries.com the definition of the word media is, The main means of mass
communication (broadcasting, publishing, and the Internet), regarded collectively. Mass
communication inventions like paper, the printing press, and film changed the foundations in which
society was built on. In todays society, it seems like everyday there is a new development in media
that will change our lives . Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, are all forms of mass media, but one could
dispute that they are unnecessary to the development of society. Walter Benjamin argues in, The Work
of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, that with reproducibility of images, submission
towards the film increases thus a lack in the formation of one s own opinions. Today, if asked, not
many would protest the invention and rise of film, but according to Walter Benjamin, a mass media
invention like film, was something society did not need. So, while new mass media transformations
may seem unnecessary to the development of society, there is a chance that over a longer period of
time society would not be able to fathom itself without it.
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can be considered mediums of what is produced, the media. One
can look at the distinct similarities between those mediums, and mediums such as paper, the printing
press, or film. Marshall McLuhan s, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man proposes that the
medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by

In this short story The masque of the red death by Edgar Allan Poe, Poe uses imagery and symbolism

This story about a prince named Prospero and his friends try to leave the city to get through the
plague. They have a party for 6 long months. It was the close of the 5th or 6th month of his seclusion,
and while the pestilence raged most furiously abroad (Poe 456). Then one day everything went

Analysis Of The Film Black Swan
Black Swan a film made in 2010 starring Natalie Portman took us into the world of ballet dancer Nina
Sayers. The film shows Nina s journey, as she tries to attempt to be the perfect embodiment of the
Swan Queen. The Swan Queen role encompassing both the Black and White swan. It shows the
struggle she makes to let go and break the perfection of the White swan to become the Black Swan.
This is the story at surface value. The stories inner meaning though portrays the cycle of maturity
involved in transitions into adulthood. This cycle, I noticed, being portrayed in what appears to be
three stages. The first stage being Denial. The second being Emergence. Finally moving into the third,
Destruction.

She also is shown casting aside the bright colorful possessions she has by tossing them in the trash.
This shows her emergence into adulthood and the destruction of her previous innocent self. Where the
bright colors she once wore were her denial of adulthood and maintaining the perfection of innocence.
This is further proven as it is even portrayed in the credits which start out as that innocent white that
slowly transitions into full black.
The second piece of evidence is the constant appearance of mirrors throughout the movie. Be it in the
actual studio, in the dressing rooms, and in Nina s own home she is constantly surrounded by mirrors.
A quote from the New York Times states, It s in the mirror that they (ballet dancers) see both the ideal
versions of themselves they hope to show the public as well as their own failings. This proves to be
true as in the film what is portrayed throughout most of the movie is the innocence clad Nina who
strives for perfection. This at first is what she wishes to be for the public because this seems to be
what is expected. Examples being what is required of the White Swan and what her mother expects.
That being implied by her constant reference to Nina as her sweet girl . This image soon becomes her
failure as she fails to emulate the traits of the mature Black Swan by denying her own maturity. This
image changes as she does minor things such as putting on dark makeup showing she wishes to be

President Bush And The President Of The United States
The uproar of who should be the next President of the United States came in full swing April 2014.
While the Republican Party jumped to an early start by making trips to the early voting states of Iowa,
New Hampshire, and South Carolina, the Democratic Party lingered on the sidelines. The Republican
Party started with seventeen candidates, yet the Democratic Party had only three. However, after the
Iowa Caucus, one of the Democratic candidates dropped, leaving only two candidates remaining.
Those two candidates are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. As the race progressed sixteen of the
Republican Party candidates dropped, leaving only Donald Trump. With estimated polls, Hillary
Clinton and Donald Trump would be the two candidates in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton has
over thirty five years of political experience, yet Trump has only business experience, so the decision
of who should run the country should be chosen carefully. Although the Republican Party believes
Donald Trump should be the next President of the United States, the Democratic Party nominated
Hillary Clinton as the best candidate because she has the most accurate solutions for solving some of

The Scottish National Party And Its Effects On Scotland...
The Scottish National Party was formed in 1934 following the merger of the National Party and the
Scottish and has had continuous representation at Westminster since the 1967 Winnie Ewing s victory
at the 1967 Hamilton by election. When the Scottish Parliament was formed in 1999, the SNP became
the second largest party in the Scottish legislature, serving two terms in opposition. Alex Salmond
became the leader of the SNP in 1990 and returned as leader in 2004, leading the party to take the
majority in Parliament following the 2011 Scottish Parliament election. This essay will evaluate the
importance Alex Salmond to the rise of the SNP and its effects on Scotland and Britain. Alex Salmond
first decided to contest for leadership in 1990, following the resignation of Gordon Wilson. Margaret
Ewing was his only opponent at the time and his key alley Jim Silarrs decided to support him, causing
a considerable consternation with the SNP left as the two main left leaders opposed each other in the
contest. Salmond won the election by 486 votes against Ewing s 146 (Deacon R., Sandry A., 2007).
The first challenges came at the general election in 1992, when the SNP had hopes of making an
electoral breakthrough. The SNP considerately increased its share of the vote, but it failed to win a
large number if the seats. Salmond s former ally Sillarrs lost his seat, leading him to describe the
Scottish people as 90 minute patriots . Sillar s comment ended the long lasting political

Installing The Four Integrated Spaces
I started my design process by sketching the overall form of the four integrated spaces. I intended the
place to be a relaxation centre for the community in an area. The place has to be larger than private
residential space as it is intended for the public.
For the first concept, I intended the space to be of different heights, to show that some spaces need
more privacy than the other. The cellar has to has more privacy than the belvedere and hearth and
bathe space is in between,
The belvedere has to have big openings (windows) so that the occupant of the space can see the best

I started to draw the plan of the spaces on the ground floor. I also experimented with the appropriate
scale of the spaces. The elements of the spaces was decided at this point of the design process. I also
emphasise on the accessibility to all the spaces, to create continuity and connections.
The next step ws to integrate the cellar design (overall form), to match the ground level plan and to
create the best pathway to access all the four spaces, to create an amazing architectural experience.

Final model, overall form.
I intended the cellar to be a dark place, with low amount of light entering the space. However, still
creates an interesting experience throughout the whole space.
I experimented with arrangement of cards vertically cards with certain intervals to direct the whole
journey. It also creates continuity in the space. The cards have different arrangent of whole that is
going to give some sense of direction for the whole journey . It is meant to be slightly

This makes it more difficult to expand into distant markets because Owen can only be in one place at a

Lastly, we will look at the possible threats. Fortunately, because of MANU s niche market in their
current location, their external threats are somewhat limited. Most of MANU s threats come from the
external environment such as the economic environment. Parents may regard soccer camp as a
relatively elastic service and be willing to go without it because of the economic downturn and
growing unemployment. This may be looked at as a luxury that can be done without.
The analysis provided an overview for MANU Soccer Academy and seems to show that MANU is
completely prepared to go ahead with the expansion. The main issue that could impact the success of
MANU s expansion lies in the economic environment. The economy is currently in a recession.
A large portion of MANU s customers live in the immediate area. There are also several largely
populated area around this area. This makes way for MANU to expand the coverage area. There is
relatively low direct competition for MANU in Tom s immediate or surrounding area. The target
buyer for the services that MANU provides is competitive soccer players ages 11 to 14. However, the
ultimate buyer is the mother of the soccer player. One must market to both mother and child.

The Significance Of Love In Those Winter Sundays, By...
Love is a powerful motivator in the world. While love isn t tangible, it is all around us in the world. In
our hearts or in others it is rare to find a place lacking in it. As such, it is not hard to presume that love
too, is a common occurrence in prose. For many, love may consume their entire being: their thoughts,
their actions and their time. For them it is a duty an obligation an office that must be fulfilled. Such is
the case in Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays, Hayden uses the father and the speaker as a
tangible embodiment of how unrequited and harsh love can be. Hayden tells us more in what he doesn
t say then what he says or as Johnson says, for everything the poem says, there is something else that
remains unspoken (Johnson). This premise is true throughout all the poem and becomes quite apparent
if the agent s (the father s) actions are put under scrutiny. Unfortunately, it can be hard to determine
the significance behind the actions without context. For example, Sunday too my father got up early,
with just a glancing look it seems to be a kind action, but nothing showing true devotion and love
(Hayden). Despite this, one must recognize that the Hayden is implying that the father got up on early
on other days as well as Sunday. To make this act even more impressionable Landau explains that,
Sunday has been regarded as a day of rest, but the speaker s father, trapped in his role as father, is not
able to observe this convention (Landau). To

Analyzing Movie Posters

9/13/11
Movie posters are meant to capture the audience s interest and reel them into going to the movie they
are each individually presenting. Some posters do their job in catching the audience s attention and
some just don t create any interest. Whether it creates interest from the audience or not mainly
depends upon the visual aspects of it. These aspects include alignment, repetition, contrast, balance,
direction, color, and font. Other aspects that most posters try to achieve that aren t necessarily visual
are appealing to the audience, showing the purpose, and staying on the right side of ethics. Also most
of all movie posters contain the aspects of ethos, pathos, and logos. To correctly analyze a poster you

Also from the characters looks and age, it makes you guess that there is a relationship that will go on

generation but that doesn t mean it is solely focused on appealing to that age group. In this case, this
movie is a sequel. The title Legacy underneath the main title Tron makes you guess from just looking

made in 1982. So in this case it is mainly appealing to the modern age, but you can also argue that it
has an older target audience because older people were the ones that saw the original movie almost
thirty years before. Another major thing you look at when analyzing a poster is its ethos, pathos, and
logos. This poster does a good job of appealing to all of these. Its ethos or in other words its credibility
is shown in the fine print at the bottom and right above the main title. Above the main title you at the
bottom of the poster you see Disney, which is a very credible company that is known for making very
good movies that tend to appeal to the modern generation. When you look at the fine print at the very
bottom you can make out a few of the actors names and the names of people who helped produce the
movie. Most

Western Civilization Religions
The development of western civilization influenced by many different things like creating war and
intolerance. Judaism Christianity and Islam are three major religions of the world. They all share a
common heritage and are related in many different ways. There are also some major differences
within these three religions, which will be talked about throughout this paper. These three religions
share a pretty important thing that they are monotheistic. Monotheistic mean that they all believe in
the same God and they also believe in the some of the same scripture. Judaism does not believe in
some of the other scriptures of either of the faiths. One major difference between these religions is the
view of Jesus Christ. To Christians, Jesus was

negotiation
Negotiation is one of the instruments of Procurement Management.
Describe tactics that can be applied in a negotiational situation.
DEFINITION OF NEGOTIATION
Negotiation is one of the most common approaches used to make decisions and manage disputes. It is
also the major building block for many other alternative dispute resolution procedures.
Negotiation occurs between spouses, parents and children, managers and staff, employers and
employees, professionals and clients, within and between organizations and between agencies and the
public. Negotiation is a problem solving process in which two or more people voluntarily discuss their
differences and attempt to reach a joint decision on their common concerns. Negotiation ... Show more

Will to settle. For negotiations to succeed, participants have to want to settle. If continuing a conflict is
more important than settlement, then negotiations are doomed to failure. Often parties want to keep
conflicts going to preserve a relationship (a negative one may be better than no relationship at all), to
mobilize public opinion or support in their favor, or because the conflict relationship gives meaning to
their life. These factors promote continued division and work against settlement. The negative
consequences of not settling must be more significant and greater than those of settling for an
agreement to be reached.
Unpredictability of outcome. People negotiate because they need something from another person.
They also negotiate because the outcome of not negotiating is unpredictable. For example: If, by going
to court, a person has a 50/50 chance of winning, s/he may decide to negotiate rather than take the risk
of losing as a result of a judicial decision. Negotiation is more predictable than court because if
negotiation is successful, the party will at least win something. Chances for a decisive and one sided
victory need to be unpredictable for parties to enter into negotiations.
A sense of urgency and deadline. Negotiations generally occur when there is pressure or it is urgent to
reach a decision. Urgency may be imposed by either external or internal time constraints or by
potential negative or positive

Media Journal A Critical Analysis of The Daily Show with...
The Daily Show pronounces itself as a fake news program, and it pulls its comedy and satire from
current news reports, politicians, media companies, and often, features of the show itself. The show
usually begins with an extended monologue from host, Jon Stewart, communicating new headlines
and regularly includes discussions with several correspondents, who assume ridiculous or amusingly
overstated takes on recent events against Stewart s straightforward character. The concluding segment
contains a celebrity interview, with guests varying from authors and political figures to actors and
musicians. Critics contend the show is a major source for news for the 18 to 34 year old age group
because of their satire and sharp witted lampoon of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newscasters current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the consequences.
Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces balance for accuracy and truth.
Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides, and the journalist is
apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the other side does not. It leaves the audience
in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly
choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda.
Interpretation
An interpretation of the show reflects that many viewers consider Stewart a reputable, true journalist
who provides a genuine take on current events. Many watchers obtain their news and opinions from
his show. Comparing the show s news outline with that of the more conventional news media and
investigating the listing of guests and segments, then placing the program into some kind of media
framework shows the structures are quite similar. This leads to the audience giving credibility to the
show as an authentic source for news. There are questions raised on how Stewart achieves this. What
is Stewart accomplishing on his program, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which may affect people
to believe him as a trustworthy commentator? How is the show comparable to, and unlike from, what
people get from the mainstream media? The

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front
Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria
Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the
bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting
memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war
had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies,
and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age
were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young
soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they
notice all the little things, such as the butterflies, white clouds, the red poppies in the field, and as the
wind plays with our hair (9). The red poppies in the field symbolizes the bloody mess the great war
gave. To what the great war gave, was nothing. These men as they were now called lost everything
they learned and if they would ever go back, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of the Iron Youth to die was Franz Kemmerich. Kemmerich was the one who had a horrific
death, he was shot in the leg and it was amputated. As Kemmerich s leg lies under a wire basket (14),
he still feels the pain in his foot, and the boys know that he will die or go back home. Muller, a young
man a part of the Iron Youth, is delighted with the sight of Kemmerich s boots that he asks for them,
but Franz is confused because he still is thinking that he is just fine when he is not. This all meant that
even the boots, such a small thing in the war means so much to them. Having this pair of boots gave
these men a sense of hope and that represents how lost all these young men

Running A Health Care Organization Is A Team Sport
Running a health care organization is a team sport. It is very important that all members of the team
whether on the medical staff, in management or on the board understand the role of governance and
what constitutes effective governance (Arnwine, 2002). Running a hospital is a difficult task. Several
factors need to be seriously thought of and considered in every decision and undertaking.
Unfortunately, all the three important factors in governing a hospital is not always in harmony. As
likened to a team sport, if the three major components are not working with each other as a team, there
will be tension and a great divide will be experienced. And often times, the patients will be in the
middle and will be greatly impacted. This writer believes that there are several factors that contribute
to the tension that usually exists among the medical staff, the board and administration. One factor is
the disconnect, where each entity is not seeing each other eye to eye and their visions may be different
from each other. Another factor may be the lack of communication in order to bridge the gap and to
build a respectful and a relationship wherein there is trust for each end every member of the group.
Often times, the medical staff is concerned with ensuring that patients are cared for in a manner that
their practice is protected as well as the patients are getting the appropriate care. On the other hand,
the board of trustees may be focused in ensuring that that

Traditional Learning and Adult Learning
Learning environments that effectively meet the needs of adult students build upon the wealth of
knowledge in the classroom, are student driven, and have direct application to the problems of the
adult s everyday life. In this essay, I will reflect upon a traditional learning experience that I
experienced as an early college student. Additionally, using Knowles theory of adult learning, I will
consider how the experience could have been adapted.
Traditional Learning Context As a 17 year old in the mid 1990s, I enrolled in an introductory
psychology course at a private religious college in central Virginia. The college was traditional in
almost every way, from the way coursework was organized to the ways in which classroom activities

His views that favored blaming mothers for sexual orientation identity may have been challenged by
members of the class that did not experience coddling or over identification with their mothers. It was
fairly widely known that professional helping organizations no longer endorsed Freud s position on
sexual orientation identity.
Social role Knowles also asserted that adults learning occurs because adults are ready to learn; the
circumstances of their lives makes learning relevant (Merriam, Caffarella, Baumgartner, 2007). At this
point in my life, I was coming to terms with my sexual orientation identity. Because I was not getting
a balanced view on LGBT identity at the college, I spent a great deal of time at the public library
reading about sexual minority communities. This is perhaps part of the reason why the lecture was
memorable in an otherwise uninteresting course. Learning about this issue had immediacy for me
because it was relevant to my life. Though the classroom did not offer me a place to grapple with these
issues, my learning continued nevertheless. The instructor s lack of a balanced position made me seek
other sources of knowledge.
Application
Knowledge is not gathered and stored for a later time. In order to be a useful learning experience,
there must be an immediate need. Merriam, Caffarella, and Baumgartner (2007) noted that, in

  • 5. Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford, Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931, and is based on a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath away. It s depicting a place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a place where one can go to achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used American industry as a major theme of his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of geometric forms he examines his subject matter so closely in order to fully understand the composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict. Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age booming; however, in reality the United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great Depression. Therefore, this painting done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually depicting what the factory actually looked like. He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons. Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford in order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization . Sheeler achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and intense knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of humankind , allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human presence but not overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence. This was uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He focused on the building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this switched the focus form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the progress America was making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to see that Sheeler chose to depict something on cite that dealt with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Philosophy And Rationale In The Classroom Philosophy and Rationale The assertiveness is a clear affirmation that both teachers and students are to be treated with respect (Purkey, 2004, p. 100). My philosophy within the classroom, is creating and maintaining a sense of respect; a classroom where a mutual respect between myself and the students is seen among all who enter the classroom environment. However, with this sense of mutual respect, students should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have the ultimate decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur again. I also want students to be self aware; understanding that they are in control of their own lives and that I respect them enough to let them make their own rational decisions. Another key component in my philosophy of the classroom, is getting to know the students on a personal level. I want to know about their families, the sports they play, the foods they like to eat, the friends they have, and/or the church they attend. Based on personal experience, when a teacher takes the time to know you outside of the classroom, a great bond is built. When the bond is built, a sense of trust in created between the teacher and student. I want my students to trust me, respect me, but know that I believe in them to make decisions that are beneficial for themselves; through this, I will respect my students, listen to them, and support them in the decisions they make. • 8. How Did Frederick Douglass Benefit From His Education Throughout the works of Frederick Douglass there is a prominent contradiction referring to literacy. At times, Douglass regrets his education as it makes his slavery more difficult to tolerate. Additionally, his education opens them up to more abuse as Harriet Jacob asserts they were living in a culture of silence (Cutter 209). Thorough examination of Frederick Douglass writing reveals various paradoxes within his testimony regarding his literary education; while Douglass did benefit from his education in some way, in many other ways, it shattered his spirit and lead to a lifetime of abuse. Douglass narrative demonstrates how his literary education is both a blessing and a curse. He believed that permitting slaves to read was a contradiction, a paradox if you will, unable to render freedom, or provide them a legitimate education. Douglass reasoned that the education was a ploy to let African Americans believe they were treated fairly. Douglass expresses, As I read and contemplated the subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish (Douglass 1200). Douglass displays the injustice and frustration of this situation; he is fully aware that he is being treated unfairly. For a short time, Douglass did consider his literacy a gift. • 9. The Existence Of Inter Class Friendship The Existence of Inter Class Friendship in E.M. Forster s A Passage to India Introduction Interaction is the source of culture; no man is in a vacuum, each person inevitably interacts with the other people. The interactions between people foregrounds the rise of human institution and culture in the nation. This is also the case for different countries and nations. Interaction between different nations has several reasons; it may be cultural, political and economic. Literature may stands for cultural interaction. International convention may be a political one and trade is the economic. However, of the three, literature has been more interesting since one can witness politics, culture and economy in a literary work. Literary works written from the beginning up to the present are shaped by the nature of interaction. Ancient writers, in their works, deal with the idea of war and bravery. In the Odyssey, the earliest written literary work, the second chapter is about Egypt and Phoenicia. He depicts the Phoenicians as cruel, merciless and barbaric tribes. During the Middle Ages East has a very similar image to that of Homer, but this time religion shapes the nature of interaction. In Chaucer, for instance, infidels inhabit east; he calls for a crusade (Canterbury Tales). After the 15th century East becomes the source of wealth, therefore, writers deal with East more seriously. The Work Of Art And The Age Of Mechanical Reproduction According to oxforddictionaries.com the definition of the word media is, The main means of mass communication (broadcasting, publishing, and the Internet), regarded collectively. Mass communication inventions like paper, the printing press, and film changed the foundations in which society was built on. In todays society, it seems like everyday there is a new development in media that will change our lives . Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, are all forms of mass media, but one could dispute that they are unnecessary to the development of society. Walter Benjamin argues in, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, that with reproducibility of images, submission towards the film increases thus a lack in the formation of one s own opinions. Today, if asked, not many would protest the invention and rise of film, but according to Walter Benjamin, a mass media invention like film, was something society did not need. So, while new mass media transformations may seem unnecessary to the development of society, there is a chance that over a longer period of time society would not be able to fathom itself without it. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can be considered mediums of what is produced, the media. One can look at the distinct similarities between those mediums, and mediums such as paper, the printing press, or film. The Scottish National Party was formed in 1934 following the merger of the National Party and the Scottish and has had continuous representation at Westminster since the 1967 Winnie Ewing s victory at the 1967 Hamilton by election. When the Scottish Parliament was formed in 1999, the SNP became the second largest party in the Scottish legislature, serving two terms in opposition. Alex Salmond became the leader of the SNP in 1990 and returned as leader in 2004, leading the party to take the majority in Parliament following the 2011 Scottish Parliament election. This essay will evaluate the importance Alex Salmond to the rise of the SNP and its effects on Scotland and Britain. Alex Salmond first decided to contest for leadership in 1990, following the resignation of Gordon Wilson. Margaret Ewing was his only opponent at the time and his key alley Jim Silarrs decided to support him, causing a considerable consternation with the SNP left as the two main left leaders opposed each other in the contest. • 20. The Significance Of Love In Those Winter Sundays, By... Love is a powerful motivator in the world. While love isn t tangible, it is all around us in the world. In our hearts or in others it is rare to find a place lacking in it. As such, it is not hard to presume that love too, is a common occurrence in prose. For many, love may consume their entire being: their thoughts, their actions and their time. For them it is a duty an obligation an office that must be fulfilled. Such is the case in Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays, Hayden uses the father and the speaker as a tangible embodiment of how unrequited and harsh love can be. Hayden tells us more in what he doesn t say then what he says or as Johnson says, for everything the poem says, there is something else that remains unspoken (Johnson). This premise is true throughout all the poem and becomes quite apparent if the agent s (the father s) actions are put under scrutiny. Unfortunately, it can be hard to determine the significance behind the actions without context. For example, Sunday too my father got up early, with just a glancing look it seems to be a kind action, but nothing showing true devotion and love (Hayden). Despite this, one must recognize that the Hayden is implying that the father got up on early on other days as well as Sunday. To make this act even more impressionable Landau explains that, Sunday has been regarded as a day of rest, but the speaker s father, trapped in his role as father, is not able to observe this convention (Landau). The negative consequences of not settling must be more significant and greater than those of settling for an agreement to be reached. Unpredictability of outcome. People negotiate because they need something from another person. They also negotiate because the outcome of not negotiating is unpredictable. For example: If, by going to court, a person has a 50/50 chance of winning, s/he may decide to negotiate rather than take the risk of losing as a result of a judicial decision. Negotiation is more predictable than court because if negotiation is successful, the party will at least win something. Chances for a decisive and one sided victory need to be unpredictable for parties to enter into negotiations. A sense of urgency and deadline. Negotiations generally occur when there is pressure or it is urgent to reach a decision. Urgency may be imposed by either external or internal time constraints or by potential negative or positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Media Journal A Critical Analysis of The Daily Show with... The Daily Show pronounces itself as a fake news program, and it pulls its comedy and satire from current news reports, politicians, media companies, and often, features of the show itself. The show usually begins with an extended monologue from host, Jon Stewart, communicating new headlines and regularly includes discussions with several correspondents, who assume ridiculous or amusingly overstated takes on recent events against Stewart s straightforward character. The concluding segment contains a celebrity interview, with guests varying from authors and political figures to actors and musicians. Critics contend the show is a major source for news for the 18 to 34 year old age group because of their satire and sharp witted lampoon of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Newscasters current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the consequences. Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces balance for accuracy and truth. Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides, and the journalist is apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the other side does not. It leaves the audience in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda. Interpretation An interpretation of the show reflects that many viewers consider Stewart a reputable, true journalist who provides a genuine take on current events. Many watchers obtain their news and opinions from his show. Comparing the show s news outline with that of the more conventional news media and investigating the listing of guests and segments, then placing the program into some kind of media framework shows the structures are quite similar. This leads to the audience giving credibility to the show as an authentic source for news. There are questions raised on how Stewart achieves this. What is Stewart accomplishing on his program, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which may affect people to believe him as a trustworthy commentator? How is the show comparable to, and unlike from, what people get from the mainstream media? The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies, and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they notice all the little things, such as the butterflies, white clouds, the red poppies in the field, and as the wind plays with our hair (9). The red poppies in the field symbolizes the bloody mess the great war gave. To what the great war gave, was nothing. • 29. Running A Health Care Organization Is A Team Sport Running a health care organization is a team sport. It is very important that all members of the team whether on the medical staff, in management or on the board understand the role of governance and what constitutes effective governance (Arnwine, 2002). Running a hospital is a difficult task. Several factors need to be seriously thought of and considered in every decision and undertaking. Unfortunately, all the three important factors in governing a hospital is not always in harmony. As likened to a team sport, if the three major components are not working with each other as a team, there will be tension and a great divide will be experienced. And often times, the patients will be in the middle and will be greatly impacted. This writer believes that there are several factors that contribute to the tension that usually exists among the medical staff, the board and administration. One factor is the disconnect, where each entity is not seeing each other eye to eye and their visions may be different from each other. Another factor may be the lack of communication in order to bridge the gap and to build a respectful and a relationship wherein there is trust for each end every member of the group. Often times, the medical staff is concerned with ensuring that patients are cared for in a manner that their practice is protected as well as the patients are getting the appropriate care. On the other hand, the board of trustees may be focused in ensuring that that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Traditional Learning and Adult Learning Learning environments that effectively meet the needs of adult students build upon the wealth of knowledge in the classroom, are student driven, and have direct application to the problems of the adult s everyday life. In this essay, I will reflect upon a traditional learning experience that I experienced as an early college student. Additionally, using Knowles theory of adult learning, I will consider how the experience could have been adapted. Traditional Learning Context As a 17 year old in the mid 1990s, I enrolled in an introductory psychology course at a private religious college in central Virginia. The college was traditional in almost every way, from the way coursework was organized to the ways in which classroom activities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His views that favored blaming mothers for sexual orientation identity may have been challenged by members of the class that did not experience coddling or over identification with their mothers. It was fairly widely known that professional helping organizations no longer endorsed Freud s position on sexual orientation identity. Social role Knowles also asserted that adults learning occurs because adults are ready to learn; the circumstances of their lives makes learning relevant (Merriam, Caffarella, Baumgartner, 2007). At this point in my life, I was coming to terms with my sexual orientation identity. Because I was not getting a balanced view on LGBT identity at the college, I spent a great deal of time at the public library reading about sexual minority communities. This is perhaps part of the reason why the lecture was memorable in an otherwise uninteresting course. Learning about this issue had immediacy for me because it was relevant to my life. Though the classroom did not offer me a place to grapple with these issues, my learning continued nevertheless. The instructor s lack of a balanced position made me seek other sources of knowledge. Application Knowledge is not gathered and stored for a later time. In order to be a useful learning experience, there must be an immediate need.
