This document summarizes two infectious neurological disorders: meningitis and brain abscess. Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (protective membranes) covering the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria, injuries, or accidents. Signs include neck stiffness, photophobia, headache, and impaired consciousness. Brain abscess is a collection of infectious material within brain tissue, often due to ear/dental infections or head trauma. Symptoms include pain, vomiting, and seizures. Both disorders increase intracranial pressure and require diagnostic testing along with antibiotic and steroid pharmacological management as well as supportive nursing care.
