2. Slavery During The Colonial Period Essay

Freed Slaves
During the colonial period, a lot of black slaves were brought into the land of
America; the population of black slaves in the south plantation once reached the
amount of 500,000 and they were oppressed by their masters, which are the white
people with privilege. The black slaves did not have any freedoms, and even their
lives belong to their masters, they could be tortured, killed, or transferred to other
people as their masters wished. But nearly the same time of the Independence of the
United States, the abolition movement began; most people believed that the
behavior of owning and enslaving was against the spirit of building the nation. The
abolitionists advocated to free the black slaves, but some of them believed that black
people were inborn different with the whites naturally, and they thought that the
freed blacks would not accept the American system and laws, and feared the freed
blacks would disturb their social order and their society, so they could not leave the
freed slaves in the country but should send them overseas and have them live in their
own land; thus, the first freed slaves were transported into the land of Africa, then the
first freed black slaves home was settled in Liberia. Many historians believe that
Liberia is an absolute colony, and it is not formed by the white Europeans but the
freed black slaves from America.
Thinking of the American Colonization, the black
3. The Process In A Criminal Trial
Criminal Trial Process
Criminal Trial Process There are many distinct parts to the process in a criminal
trial. Some parts of these trials happen within every single trial while others can be
hit or miss and do not happen all of the time. Regardless, the defendant in each trial
either gets off on some or all charges or is convicted on one or more charges.
Regardless, there is an orderly process behind what might or might not happen.
The Process Before the trial even starts, there are several things that have already
happened. The first is the arrest of the charged person. The person is arrested by police
, or he/she turns himself/herself in, based on one or more charges that have been
brought against the person. The person must then make an initial appearance
before a judge. The person must be arraigned in a timely fashion and the defendant
must then enter a plea at that hearing. If the defendant pleads guilty, there is no
need for a criminal trial as the person is admitting that they are guilty (Nolo, 2012).
If, however, the person pleads not guilty to one or more charges, the trial process
will start. At any point in the process, whether it be before the trial or during it, a
deal can be cut between the prosecutor s team and the defendant. This is often done
to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial and the defendant often gets some form of
lenciency if they do plead guilty. Leniency can come in the form of less time overall,
probation instead of actual prison time,

6. How To Build Verbonia
The design of the city Verbonia required both intelligence and physical strength,
and without these two components, the city would have been much harder to
build. The people who helped build the city were a mixture of smart and strong, as
they had to be in order to make some of the things that happened, happen. In order
to make plans for buildings and division of the land, there had to be intelligent
people to plan out the ideas so that they would work. For example, the intelligent
people knew that they would need to divide the land into blocks, so they divided
the land into a chessboard like design, with almost all of the blocks being 80 square
yards. They also knew that food and water had to be accessible by all of the people,
which is why they placed public water fountains, the aqueduct that would bring the
water, and a central food market, along with public baths and toilets. The cityhas a
social Hierarchy, where the emperor has the most power, and the laborers had the
least. The city planners also created a good economy, where people had to pay for the
construction of their own house, which could not happen in the first place if there
were not construction workers, bringing up the necessity of the physical strength that
was involved in the buildingof this town.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inexperienced workers would lift rocks from the earth, while the skilled
laborers carved, cut, or polished the stones. They would cut the rocks with saws,
and if the rock was too dense for saws to be used, they would drill holes into where
the rock had to be cut, and stick wood down the holes, then get the wood wet so that
it would expand and break the rock. They also found clay in large pits in the ground,
and they would send them to the factories, where they were made into tiles and
7. Gun Influence On Gun Control
Gun control: Is violence influenced by the choice of weapon?
Although recurring debated, in special due to recent and recurring broadcasted mass
shootings, the majority of people cannot reason whether firearms influence urban
violence. Furthermore, when the topic arises in a discussion, it usually serves as a
disguise to deeper value conflicts such as individuality versus collectivity; leaving the
gun control debase aside because neither sides present strong evidences. Whereas gun
control lies on collectivity values, having the choice to possess a firearm usually
consolidates itself on the former but also as a necessity claim for some. Nonetheless
the inner value one chooses to defend, throughout this text, by comparing countries
firearm ratios, the afterwards of homicides indices where gun restrictions were
imposed, and analyzing premises used by those who advocate gun constraints a
reasonable conclusion that the any specific weapon limitation present minor to none
influence on urban violence is attainable.
Primary, surveying a broader list of countries to determine whether the relation
between firearm ratio and homicide levels is tangible fails. This is an important
factor as it will be analyzed in a later moment. Take for example Finland and
Switzerland, even though their firearm ratio are considerable higher than countries as
Honduras and El Salvador, their homicide levels are extremely lower than those two;
and dozens of others. To avoid potential strawman fallacies,
8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer Thesis
Research Paper Rough Draft
Television shows have often been a popular source of entertainment with its dynamic
characters, exciting plot twists, and unexpected cliffhangers. Viewers are now able
to enjoy a dramatically increasing variety of television shows with diverse genres.
One show, in particular, has introduced several new and original ideas to both
television shows and movies after its premiere: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss
Whedon s adaptation of Buffy the VampireSlayer has influenced science fiction
television shows and movies by inspiring a long arc plot style in current television
shows, introducing LGBTQ characters to television, becoming an inspiration which
helped increase the amount of female heroine lead characters (in both ... Show more

Buffy the Vampire Slayer s debut in 1997 reinforces the concept that ...since the
late 1990s/early 2000s, the sympathetic vampire...has become distinctly more
common in popular fiction and film than the monstrous stereotype as a vicious
killer (qtd. in Parke and Wilson 179). Throughout the Buffy series, one of Buffy s
main love interests has been Angel, an outcast vampire who has empathy for
humans (e.g., he does not harm humans unless provoked, he protects Buffy and her
friends from other vampires). As opposed to the other vampires in Buffy, Angel
has a soul and experiences guilt for his past crimes. Writer Lorna Jowett (of Buffy,
Dark Romance and Female Horror Fans) introduces the idea that Buffy the
Vampire Slayer has impacted science fiction (paranormal, in particular) by a theme
of dark romance : ...its male protagonists are powerful and dangerous, often
presented as stereotypical bad boys, and the fact that they are vampires or
werewolves positions them naturally , both monstrosity and masculinity (qtd in
Stuller 92). A notable bad boy in Buffy is the vampire, Spike: he is a soulless and
sadistic who eventually rebels against the Anointed One (a supernatural being who
is prophesized to lead vampires into power). Although Spike is portrayed as a
merciless killer, he is devoted to his first lover (Drusilla) although his commitment
to her was not reciprocal and reveals a softer side of himself to Buffy when he
helps her cope with her death and resurrection. Although Buffy and Spike develop a
romantic relationship, he accepts that she will never be able to fully return his
feelings. Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries is strongly influence and
essentially mirrors Spike s bad boy characteristics: similar to Spike, he is a selfish
rebel whose actions are solely meant to benefit himself. Damon also
9. The Theory Of Cognitive Learning
Cognitive learning involves transferring information in the environment into
knowledge that is stored in the students memory. The learning occurs when new
knowledge is acquired or existing knowledge is modified by students experiences.
Also, learning and development occur when students interact with the environment
and people around them. Major types of Cognitivism and the Teaching Methods of
Cognitive Learning Theory influence cognitive learning. Major Types of Cognitivism
Cognitive Learning implies that the different processes concerning learning can be
explained by analyzing the mental processes. It suggests that with effective cognitive

Students with high ability are likely to show a proportionately greater improvement
in their performance from an increase in motivation than do those individuals with
low ability (Crim, Latham, Seijts, 2008). When students encounter new learning
situations, they should be encouraged to draw on their prior knowledge to make the
new experience understandable. Having new experiences or learning environments at
times produces contradictions to students understandings which makes them
insufficient and leads to agitation and a state of disequilibration in the mental
schemata. The concept of schema is an essential component of Piaget s theory.
Schema refers to a closely connected set of ideas related to a specific object or event
(Ormrod, 2012, p. 243). There are three processes that characterize the schemata
attainment and the changes in existing schemata. The first process is accretion which
refers to remembering new information on the basis of existing schema without
altering the schema. The second process is tuning which occur when new information
that does not fit the existing schema causes schema to get modified in order to be
more compatible with experience and the third process is reconstructing which is
characterized by the formation of entirely new schema based on previous ones but
cannot accommodate new experiences. While

How often do you update your phone and wonder what s new now? Smartphones

years made are everyday life easier, now with one look to a phone can unlock it,
which only happens on a Iphone. Most people are always fascinated to see the
newest Apple update release, since its things that can only occur on a iphone.
However, updates aren t always the best. Sometimes just trying the new details can
make you understand why things are done a way. For example in the iphone
industry to get an app it was always required to put in a password, now with one
fingerprint it will download. Nowadays everyone wants an iphone, because of the
cool updates and looks. But that s not it there s more to iphone than on a android, the

that you can play, there is Apple pay, there is a digital touch that can explain how
you re feeling, and can even send a text message with effect like fireworks popping
all over your screen. Also if you re an impatient person it lets you know when
someone has read or is typing, but if your texting a person who has an android it
will not let you know. In many ways iphone has been better than android. Lets just
talk about the camera quality that iphone has, which comes with different ways like
portrait, is when it blurs out the background and gives the person or whatever is
being taking the picture the many interest. Lets not forget taking live pictures, are
pictures that you have to press on to see a show clip of what happen at that moment.
11. The Role Of Female Characters In Scarlet Pimpernel
Actress Rebecca Hall once complained, It s not often you get female characters
who don t fit into a box. What she is saying is that often in a lot of cases readers
will receive a female lead who is nothing but predictable and stereotypical. The
female often gives off essential qualities of a cartoon or princess like damsel in
distress. When it comes to classical literature, female characters have predictable
nature. In Scarlet Pimpernel, the women carry charismatic personalities and
feelings that definitely do not fit in a box . Marguerite Blakeney can be quite
ruthless at times. When someone is displeasing towards her or something doesn t
go her way she becomes uncivil. After the Countess rejected Marguerite by saying
Suzanne, I forbid you to speak to that woman (Orczy 11), the reader can tell by her
small actions after that she was bothered. As well as For the moment Marguerite s
sweet face had become as white as the soft fichu which swathed her throat, and a
very keen observer might have noted that the hand which held the tall, beribboned
stick was clenched, and trembled somewhat (Orczy 11). Her response was
insulting the Countess by saying Sir Andrew, did you ever see such an unpleasant
person? I hope when I grow old I sha n t look like that (Orczy 11). This was also
followed by Lady Blakeney mimicking the Countess, so the reader would think
Marguerite is ruthless because of her childish and impolite actions due to a minor
rejection. Obviously people going against her in any way is a great issue to her,
and imagine what she might have done if Suzanne (who was more relaxed in this
situation) had not convened with her. Imagine what other impolite or harsh
comments or actions she might have added. Nevertheless, this kind of behavior
should help the reader see how incredibly ruthless she is at times, however, Other
people may believe that she s quite kind and she just hides her feelings. Readers
would think Marguerite is kind due to her act of kindness towards a homeless man
by buying him a meal before entering The Fisherman s Rest (Orczy 9). While they
have a reasonable position, it s wrong because that single act of kindness was in
reality the only act of kindness she showed for the rest of the

of a bigger problem in the South Coast today is reckless driving. What reckless
driving is is driving in a way that puts people and property in harm s way. A
reckless driving offense can be tacked onto or used in lieu of other offenses like
speeding. Some of the most common types of reckless driving are; driving under the
influence, drowsy driving, and phone usage while driving. Reckless driving is one
cause of death in the area. On average there are over 6 million car accidents in the

MADD also strives to support policy change like the policy that requires convicted
drunk drivers to use in car breathalyzers. All convicted drunk drivers must prove
they are sober before the car will start. Drunk driving fatalities are on the decline
dropping 12 percent from 2006 to 2008, which proves that they are helping even if

thousands of people that are killed each year as a result of drunk driving. The goal
of the MADD is to change this number and decrease drunk

about a man, John Wright, that was mysteriously murdered in his sleep. The men in
the story are trying to solve the mystery, but look down on the women and their

English 355: Shakespeare
Professor Charlebois
December 15, 2015
Perception of Evidence In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, and A Winter s Tale,
William Shakespeare shows the shift in which in which perception becomes
knowledge. As a thing becomes known, through one sense or another, it is filtered
through the mind, and then emerges as knowledge. Shakespeare examines this
process, focusing on the ways in which we unconsciously influence the formation of
knowledge. Much Ado about Nothing, Othello and A Winter s Tale each explore
different sides of jealousy which all stem from the same problem. All believe their
innocent wives to be unfaithful. However, since everybody experiences reality
differently, due to our own bias, we can never be certain that we understand
anyones perspective. Claudio, Othello, and Leonates attempt to compensate for this
uncertainty by assuming the absolute worst about their wives with only the
absolute minimum of evidence. Unfortunately, their conviction that such
assumptions are correct leads to disaster. In Much Ado About Nothing, Claudio
successfully woos and is about to marry the young Hero. However, the Don John
tries to ruin their wedding to get back at his brother, the Prince, and will harm all
in his way in order to do so. As such, he hatches a plan to have his servant, Borachio
seduce Margaret, one of Hero s servants. They will then engage in lewd acts in Hero
s bedroom, whilst Borachio calls out Hero s name. Don John has it

18. The Roman Of Roman Empire Essay
The Roman scutum was a large body shield used in battles, sieges, and gladiator
fights. The scutum was used from the early Roman Republic until the third century
CE and helped to define many of the Roman battle tactics that made them so
successful. The curved, semi cylindrical design provided full body protection and
was especially used in the testudo formation during sieges. The Roman Scutum is a
perfect example of the military genius of the Roman Legion.
The Roman Empire was created from the Roman Republic and became a huge part
of Western Europe. Considered the most advanced of its time, the powerful Roman
Army dominated the Western world for more than a thousand years due to its size
and organization. Warfare was an important way of life in both the Republic and the
Empire. Rome greatly benefitted from the riches brought back from conquered
territories. The Romans believed themselves to be descendents of the war god Mars
and also believed in the superiority of their culture.
The power of the Roman military came from the professionalism of their heavy
infantry. They were highly adaptable, borrowing ideas from outsiders. They changed
their tactics, formations, and even their armor to fit the terrain or the enemy. They
were also well disciplined. All troops swore an oath of allegiance, known as the
sacramentum, to the emperor himself. This loyalty and discipline resulted in many
victories on the battlefield. The Roman army used a system of rewards and

22. Education In Australia
It is argued that inclusion is unending, so that there is no such thing as an inclusive
school (Ballard 1995). In order to facilitate this idea, all schools must continually
develop greater inclusion for diversity of students (Sebba and Ainscow 1996).
Inclusive schooling has previously been described as a process that fosters
participation by all students and staff as a base for future school development (Bines
2000). This is as a result of the introduction of inclusive policies and the ever
increasingly diverse learning needs that have forced school staff to alter their
approach and their organisation of students, models of support, teaching staff roles,
and approaches to teaching and the curriculum.
Anderson and Boyle s article drew on research to measure the success (or not) of
Inclusive Education (IE) in Australia. The first main idea stated there was no primary
definition which educational diversity and inclusive practice were successful by
utilising a range of different needs teachers in Australia. The second main idea stated
that the public education system is carrying the burden of an increasingly diverse
population. Anderson and Boyle supported this through their explanations of the
practical issues involved in assessment, planning, and implementing inclusive
curriculum and pedagogy. The Australian education system has multiple varied

23. The Key To Survival Guilt, And The Moral Logic Of
Survival
The instincts and emotions connected to survival has benefits and negatives in a
person s life. The Seventh Man , Moral Logic of Survival Guilt , and The Key to
Disaster Survival all show how people are affected by survival. From what I ve read
from the stories most people feel guilty after survival. It s not all guiltthere are many
emotions that go with survival. In The Seventh Man the narrator loses a friend
that he felt he could have saved. The man and his friend K were down by the ocean
while they were in the eye of a huge storm. K was looking at stuff thrown on the
beach by the storm, the man was watching for big waves and high winds. The man
soon felt the wind start to kick up and saw a big wave getting closer to the shore.
He yelled for K, but K wasn t listening he was almost in his own world. The man
started to run, but stopped and yelled for K again this time K heard him and started
running but it was too late the wave crashed over K onto the shore. The wave took
K out into the cold ocean water. They never found K s body after that. The man
couldn t forgive himself for what happened to K and liced his life in fear of losing or
hurting people.
In The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt the narrator explains why people feel guilty
after surviving something someone else didn t or not being there for someone to
help. Soldiers often carry this burden home survivor guilt being perhaps the kind most
familiar to us. (pg.153, Sherman), that sentence told me

Isn t bowling fun? Perhaps it is a Sunday and you have got absolutely nothing to
do; why not be active and go play a fun game that has been around for centuries
with some close pals? Bowling has been in action for as long as I have been alive
and to me it has always seemed to be such a positive and uplifting game to play; but
did you know that bowling hasn t just been around for as long as I ve been around
but have evidences of being established far back as 3200 BC and actually weren t
always looked at as uplifting ? The history of bowling is not very abrupt and
actually has some connotations, though it did not stop Americans from
flourishing the game still today. The popularity growth of bowling struck so many
people s lives early on that in 1366, King Edward III (King of England 1327 1377)
outlawed it merely to keep his troops focused on practice. It is almost certain that
bowling was popular during the reign of Henry VIII. Also, by this time there were

It s uncertain where exactly the tenpin game came about; mainly because in the late
1800 s it was so widespread in states like Ohio, Illinois, and New York that the
details like ball weights and pin dimensions were all different. However, that all
changed when a man named Joe Thum put together representatives from diverse
bowling clubs. Soon after that, in September of 1895, at Beethoven Hall in New
York, the American Bowling Congress was created. Rules and regulations were then
put into tact and quickly after that major national competitions could be held, even for

26. The Decline Of Alcoholic Beverages
The earliest alcoholic beverages may have been made from berries or and
winemaking may have originated in the wild grape regions of the Middle East.
(Hanson, 1995). A variety of alcoholic beverages have been used in China since
prehistoric times China perceived alcohol as spiritual food rather than a material
food (Hanson, 1995). From the earliest recorded use of alcohol, drinking has been
a social activity, and both consumption and behavior have been subject to self
imposed social controls. The future of children who grow up in alcoholic families.

more popular in the psychology /mental health world. The term also can be called
Adult children of dysfunctional families (ACDF s) which means a person/people
who have lived in such dysfunction. People who have grown up in dysfunctional
families are put in a group to easily identify them. (2) Alcohol problems don t just
hurt the drinker. According to NIAAA, more than half of Americans have at least
one close relative with a drinking problem. Spouses and children of heavy drinkers
are more likely to face family violence; children are more likely to suffer physical
and sexual abuse and neglect and to develop psychological problems. Women who
drink during pregnancy run a serious risk of damaging their fetuses. Relatives and
friends can be killed or injured in alcohol related accidents and assaults (Association,

27. The United States Needs Criminal Justice Reform
The United States needs criminal justice reform. Criminal justice reform is a type of
reform that is aimed at fixing errors in the criminal justice system. Some of the goals
of criminal justice reform is trying to decrease the United States prison population,
reducing sentences for low level crimes, eliminating mandatory minimum sentences
for low level drug offenders, and end harsh policies and racial inequalities in the
justice system.
According to the Illinois state commission on criminal justice and sentencing reform,

within minority citizens. There are 2.4 million Americans that are behind bars. The

Every penny they use go towards meeting their basic needs but they are still held

Any payment should be restitution for their victims not towards the system.
There is an undoubted race element, too. In 2010, black people were five times
more likely to be incarcerated, and those figures are unlikely to have improved
since then (Holder). The war on drugs have affected mostly poor black communities
of color even though black people are just as likely as whites to sell and use illegal
drugs.
Prisoners are, by and large, people who have been failed. According to the Prison
Reform Trust, 62% of male and 52% of female prisoners have at least one
personality disorders. Many people incarcerated are people with mental health
issues. According to the American Psychiatric Association, on any given day,
between 2.3 and 3.9 percent of inmates in state prisons are estimated to have
schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder; between 13.1 and 18.6 percent have
major depression; and between 2.1 and 4.3 percent suffer from bipolar disorder
(Holder). American jails have become mental health facilities. This is not what a
prison should be used for.
The United States criminal justice system is not working. We throw the criminals
into the system and forget about them. There is little to no effort to reintegrate them
into society. According to a report from HM Inspectorate

world. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, the AQHA (American Quarter Horse

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder which causes
deficits in social, behavioral and learning skills. Over the past few years there has
been a rise in the number of children being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum
Disorder, which has led to urgently seek measures for alleviating the difficulties
faced by the affected children and their families. There is extensive research being
carried out to come up with a cure for ASD, however, researchers have yet not been
successful at targeting this disorder. This grant proposal mainly extends the idea of

Hence, there is a demand for cost effective and economic analysis of interventions in
order to influence the allotment of monetary resource for appropriate function and
keep modifications in policies such as insurance.
The National Database for Autism Research (NDAR), a shared database has a
plethora of information and data obtained from diverse clinical and pharmacological
studies, along with projects concerning interventions for children with ASDs.
Nevertheless, the cost effectiveness of the interventions has not been so far explored.
In order to study the economic aspects of interventions, we have generated primary
data on quality adjusted life years (QALYs) on the basis of clinical data obtained
from children with ASDs. This would then make it possible to predict the QALYs
gained using different interventions, which would further make it possible to make a
judgement on the cost effectiveness of the interventions. This approach along with
decision analytic modeling would give us a better perspective about costs and
consequences of different interventions adopted.
The following specific aims will aid us in achieving majority of our research goal

The Phoenix Reborn In Sylvia Plath s poem Lady Lazarus , Plath uses the horrific

Lazarus. Each death in the story is at the fault of a man and at the end of the story,
Lady Lazarus rises from the ashes with a new vigor and devours all men to take back
the reins of her life. Resurrection is an important theme throughout the poem and
Plath uses both the name of Lady Lazarus, and more importantly, the nature of the

unravels the idea that Lady Lazarus invited these deaths with the knowledge that after
each death comes a self empowering metamorphosis. Despite Lady Lazarus gruesome

31. Persuasive Speech On Killing By Poisons
Carson initiates a major environmental call to action to address the ongoing
problem of farmers harming birds. She persuades her audience of Americans in the
1960 s to stand along side her to ban the use of deadly poisons that harm living
creatures. Carson does so through her use of negative diction, imagery and an ethical
appeal. Carson wastes no time in characterizing farmers as murderers who target
birds. When drawing attention to the fact that the habit of killing grows and farmers
have adapted to killing by poison, she exposes the harsh practices of farmers. Carson
also forces her readers to understand that these pesticides are really weapons, using
phrasing such as chains of poisoning and target of poisons. Carson also adds that
these poisons are deadly and trigger a wave of death, an example being in 1959
when farmers caused the death of some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and
starlings. She is disgusted by these recurrences and sends a strong message to her
audience that this must be stopped. Carson deliberately adds that these farmers act
as if they are on a mission of death just waging a needless war on blackbirds. How
outlandish, Carson reveals, is it for these grown men to act as if this is a balanced
battle. Their actions are especially horrible because they took to killing with poison
when the problem could have been solved easily with some agricultural changes.
Carson characterizes farmers as murders to reveal that they are horrible for
32. Public Opinion In American Politics
Public opinion is often defined as the collective views, attitudes, and beliefs of the
population about a particular subject. Many suggest it is a crucial aspect of
American politics considering it affects how the country is governed, which
explains why it is such a key component in modern Political Science. There are a
series of matters that one can focus on in this field of study; nonetheless, I wanted to
take a closer look upon a topic that we did not cover in the course, and that is of my

35. Essay On Greenhouse Gases
Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Modern Climate Change According to Karl and
Trenberth (2003), earth is habitable largely due to its relative location to the sun, and
its natural greenhouse effect on the atmosphere. Various gases found within the
atmosphere contribute to a greenhouse effect including: water vapour contributing
about ~60%, carbon dioxideat ~25%, ~8% from the ozone and the rest from traces
of other gases including methane and nitrous oxide. On average, solar energy
achieved at the top of the planet s atmosphere is ~175 petawatt (an equivalent to
1015 watts) with about 31% reflected by clouds from the surface. The rest of the
energy is absorbed by the atmosphere, land, and ocean, ultimately emitted back as

However, impacts on the natural environment, human health, and lastly the
economics are the most visible and documented. The Government of Canada
suggests that the environmental impacts of GHG emissions are once again, the
increase in overall average annual temperatures. As a result, a decrease in snow,
sea ice, and glacier coverage, resulting in rising sea levels and an increase in
coastal flooding. Rising temperature have also brought upon an increase in the
risks of heat waves and forest fires. Human health impacts include a rater risk of
respiratory and cardiovascular problems as a result of air pollution. Pollution in the
waters leads to risks of water , food , and rodent borne diseases, which ultimately lead
to economic impacts such as the rising economic stress on health and social support
systems needed to treat the increase in diseases. In addition, economies dependent on
agriculture, forestry, and even tourism may be affected by the changing weather
patterns (Canada, n.d.) It is also logically agreed upon that as human population and
activity increases, so should emissions levels. However, this idea has been challenged
by the implementation of policies aimed at reducing emissions and regulating
emissions standards for industries.

most common medical practice was bleeding. Bleeding was the doctor s way of

How animal magnetism works is that there is a magnetic flow throughout the whole
human body, if the flow of the magnetism is blocked, the person will become ill. The

How Mesmer constructed his methods was to start by removing the obstruction of the
animal magnetism blockage. How Mesmer s method worked was to bring the
fingertips of the patients to his own fingertips, the patient s knees to his own. He
would then start to massage the blocked magnetism, and slowly remove the clogged

more pronounced throughout Paris. Since the popularity of animal magnetism was
increased, Mesmer could not balance the amount of patients he was accumulating, so
he hired and trained assistants, called adepts. Soon Mesmer

44. Essay about It s Time to End School Inequality
The right to an adequate education is a freedom every American child should have;
however, that is not the case. Standardized testing reveals that students living in an
economically stable neighborhood are more mentally developed than students living
in poverty stricken communities. The problem with the educational system is not
schools need to close and children need to be relocated to another one, it is inequality
within the educational system continues to widen due to the expansion of the
economic gap. One cannot fix issues of the broken system by closing public schools
and endorsing charter schoolproliferation. One must first start with the economic
situation of each school to ensure all students, teachers, and schools... Show more

Poverty stricken neighborhoods are underfunded, therefore, do not have all the
materials on hand to teach its students. When I was in school, I had a book for
every class so I may take it home and complete my homework. Some of Chicago s
Elementary Schools does not have books until mid year, closer to the end of the year.
The teacher did not fail the student nor did the school did not fail the student. The
blame belongs to the education system which failed the student, teacher, school, and
community. It is impossible for the teacher to teach the student without access to
material. It is impossible for the student to learn the material without access to it.
However, the student, teacher, school, and community is penalized for students not
doing well on standardized tests as Mr. Emmanuel decides to shut the school s doors
for good as he opens up the Charter Schools.
At one of Chicago s newest Noble Charter Schools, my daughter only had a History
and Spanish book. Math, Biology, Health, English, and Literature books were only
accessible at school during the class. Homework was given; however, she did not
have a book to review examples or explanations when she did not remember. All
she had was her notes, which lacked much of the material needed for
comprehension. She became frustrated as the coursework was not hard, but not able
to grab a book to do homework caused her to lose sleep as she
45. Examples Of Sinners In The Hand Of An Angry God
Imagine a man standing up before you and preaching to you that no matter how
good of a person you are, no matter how hard you work, no matter what you do, you
re going to Hell. Jonathan Edwards did exactly this to a group of Puritans in his
most famous speeches, Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God. Edwards started
preaching when he was just five years old and was very devoted to it and to his
religion. In his speech, Edwards uses pathos to persuade his audience to listen to him.
If God should only withdraw his hand from the floodgate, it would immediately fly
open, and the fiery floods of the fierceness and the wrath of God, would rush forth...
(Edwards 109). This is an example of pathos because Edwards is striking fear into his
listeners

Town Mode began at 64 Hindley Street, Adelaide SA 5000. It was located in
between bookshops, music shops, nightclubs and a police station. It was
established and purchased by the current owner Steve Makaris in 1976. Despite in
the business challenges of the 70 s, 80 s, 90 s, Town Mode had sixteen stores (16)
and the suburban stores were exceptional businesses. In August 2015 Town Mode
moved to a new location on Port Road and started providing cheap clothing for

Competitors are a part of every business, excluding a few businesses that have
found a niche market. An example of this is the Supre store which is located in the
city of Adelaide and it is successful because it supplies goods to a niche market.
Another is the clothing store Supre which is aimed at the bargain clothing market
and is a competitor to Town Mode. The current location has the advantage that

47. History Of The National Retail Federation
The National Retail Federation is the Nation s largest retail group with over
18,000 member companies. The NRF represents 1.6 million companies and over
24 million employees. It makes sense since retail is one of the largest industries in
the world. Retail accounts for 1 in 4 jobs in the United States and contributes over
2.6 Trillion to the annual GDP. The NRF has several different things it does, like
many other special interest groups. It mainly serves as a voice for the retail
industry. With over 10 different interests residing in fields from Chain Restaurants,
Finance and Global Issues, to Legal, Small Business, and Technology. They are a
voice for every type of retail, and anything that is directly affected by retail. Since

One of the biggest reasons they do this is to provide a tangible service for their due
paying members. While members do see value in the NRF s lobbying, it is very hard
to measure and really see results from most of the time. Like many other interest
groups, this is the NRF s way of staying afloat and paying those who lobby. That is
why due paying members are crucial to the NRF, this is their main source of
income. Along with that, the NRF is also funded by large conferences and events.
The conferences they host are some of the largest n retail with over 40,000
attendees. Another reason the NRF puts out these reports and hosts events is to gain
recognition and create a reputable strong name. In today s world if a business does
not have a name for themselves, they can not succeed. The NRF recognizes how
crucial this is. If they want to properly lobby and advocate for retail, they must have
some authority when going to government officials.
This leads us to the lobbying side of the NRF. The group lobbys for retail, and
everything that affects it. The NRF breaks down into different specific areas to
lobby for. With over 60 departments/ committees, they cover a broad range of things.
Some of the very specific groups lobby for: protection against patent trolls, consumer
credit issues, postal issues, supply chain, and support for the Americans with
Disability Act. The NRF has a
48. Discussion Questions For I Am Malala
1.Why did you choose this selection?
I chose this book because I remember hearing on the news about Malala but I did
not pay much attention to what was going on. She has received many awards but I
had no idea why. My knowledge of what Malala was limited and I only knew that
she wanted women to be able to receive education. Many celebrities have talked
about Malala and I have seen her do many interviews on television. I decided to
read her book to get knowledge of what she did to get targeted by the Taliban.
2.Summarize and review the book. Be sure to include its Lexile score and any
qualitative factors that might determine its complexity level.
I Am Malala is an autobiography of Malala s life in Pakistan when the Taliban took
over the Swat Valley. Malala s father founded an all girls school, which Malala
attends with other girls. Eventually, the Taliban take over Pakistan and girls have
to sneak to get an education. She has many hardships and Pakistan becomes a
warzone because of the terrorists. Women have no freedom. Malala becomes the
spokesperson for all women to be free and gets a target on her back because of it.

4.Respond to one of the following three questions:
What content knowledge could students gain from this text?
In my opinion, I Am Malala, would be a great book to teach students about girl s
educations and rights in Pakistan. Students would also get insight of the negative
effects of Taliban. Many students would have heard about Taliban in the news but do
not know exactly how devastating they were to the people in Pakistan. Students will
be greatly impacted and not take their education for granted. Malala was almost
murdered to be able to get and education that is free to them. I Am Malala teaches

49. A Research Study On Service Encounters
Service Encounters The interactions between various people can help explain social
and cultural differences, which overall allow us to gather information on the wide
expanse of ideologies that people from different economic and ethnic backgrounds
hold and believe. Throughout this research project I was able to build off of what I
had learned from Benjamin Bailey s study and conduct something similar to
experience firsthand what beneficial information can be obtained from observing
various service encounters. Understanding that not every person feels the same way
about how certain social interactions should be carried out is important. This enables
us to realize that some interactions may come off as disrespectful, ill mannered, or...

They were both white males of average height and build. Quickly after listening to the
beginning of their conversation, it was clear they knew one another.
Example 1:
1.Attendant: How s it going?
2.Customer: It s going good bro, what about you?
3.Attendant: Going good, how s ASU?
4.Customer: Pretty good, I m getting through it. *Light chuckle*
5.Attendant: Well I m glad to hear it, hope you have a good night.
6.Customer: You too man.
It was apparent that they had exchanged conversations maybe several times in the
past and were on more personal terms, where they knew things about one another.
That was the first interaction I witnessed that day, between the attendant and a
customer that included a conversation that seemed more informal and casual. My
second example took place in the Mexican restaurant, Los Taquitos, and the
interaction I observed was between a young women and an older male. The
attendant looked around 16 18 and was a Mexican American woman. The customer
seemed to be in his late 60 s and was a Native American man who was in a
wheelchair. They had a polite conversation and seemed to be previously acquainted.
Example 2:

2.Customer: Hi Alexa, I m doing fine.
3.Attendant: Lengua burrito?
4.Customer: Of course, and can you add four sides of pico?
5.Attendant: Mhmm, where s your wife today?

50. The Last Days Of The Incas
The Last Days of the Incas:
How the conquest of the Spaniards led to an impact on one of the world s largest
empires. The Inca Empire, shortly after its beginning, fell under the rule of the
Spaniards but was still one of the world s ancient largest empires. It wasn t until
around 1400 that the Incas began to emerge as the dominant regional polity . On the
eve of the early 1530 s the Spanish invaded the Incas . However, the Incan rulers had
just fought a civil war in which Atahualpa, the emperor, had defeated his brother
Huascar. Reasonably, the Incas were defensive towards those who approached the
empire. Eventually when the leader of the Spanish conquest Francisco Pizarro along
with a force of 167 men came along, they clashed with ... Show more content on

of the Inca Empire was made up of numerous non Inca groups. Author Kim

51. Touching Bottom And Chrysanthemums
Seeing these stories Touching Bottom and Chrysanthemums I see feminism through
women s strength, weakness and overcome from struggles. In the story Touching
Bottom women s strength showed that the protagonist is a strong person in
physically and mentally. In the story Chrysanthemums I see Elisa s strength, she is
very optimistic and satisfactory person. She can live happy within a small circle.
However through feminist point of view I found weakness in both stories too. In the
story Touching Bottom Kari s weakness is male dominance and lack of self
confidence on herself. As the story Touching Bottom in the story Chrysanthemums
the weakness of the protagonist is male dominance and lack of self confidence.
However through feminist lenses I see whether the protagonist of the story could able
to overcome or not. In the story Touching Bottom the protagonist Kari was able to
overcome from struggles in contract in the story Chrysanthemums the protagonist
could not overcome from obstacles and she is still in immature state of mind.
Women s strengthens is one of the important part in feminist critical theory. In the
story Touching Bottom the protagonist is mentally and physically strong. The
protagonist really cares about everybody in her family. She denied her father s quote
about her father and married the guy she wanted to live with, this is the quote My
Dad told me to go, not to marry him. He said I would be sorry . She does not want to

X Men and Oppression In the X Men movie, there are great examples of oppression
that can be related to many past and present events. The most relevant event that is
similar to the way the mutants were treated, is how Adolf Hitler made people of the
Jewish descent wear Yellow Stars of David so they could be identified. In Bryan
Singer s movie X MenSenator Kelly was proposing a bill that would make all
mutants come forward and identify as mutants. In the early scenes of the movie,

53. Raskolnikov Mood
In a passage excerpted from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov fixes his attention on a girl who is staggeringly drunk.
While Raskolnikov is watching her, he notices a large man who is also paying
special attention to the drunk girl; however, the stranger is clearly intent on taking
advantage of the girl. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in
order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he
does not care about what happens to the girl, and scoffs at himself for ever getting
involved. Dostoevsky uses this event to reveal the two characteristics that
Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps
others, and a cynic who cares only about himself. Dostoevsky shows Raskolnikov s
complex and quick changing character through the literary devices of tone, diction,
and point of view. The tone of hopelessness throughout this passage displays
Raskolnikov s rapidly changing self, as one side of him scolds the other for being
optimistic. Raskolnikov begins with being adamantly protective of the girl, saying The

Without Dostoevsky writing in 3rd person, it would be confusing as to why
Raskolnikov suddenly changes his mind in regard to the girl s safety. However,
with this choice in writing style, one can read Raskolnikov s thoughts as he goes
into a lengthy monologue about why he decided to stop helping the girl. He
begins by being sympathetic for the poor girl by thinking over all of the terrible
things that will happen to her due to his lack of intervention; however shortly after
he switches over to his pessimistic side by voicing one of his beliefs that if it hadn t
happened to this particular girl, a certain percentage [...] must every year go. This
writing style openly displays and even helps explain Raskolnikov s changing
54. Romeo And Juliet Role Of The Nurse Essay
The Nurse in the famous play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare plays a
major role in uniting Juliet to her love, Romeo. The Nurse s key function in the
storyline is to act as a messenger between Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse also offers
comic relief to the seriousness of the structure of Shakespeare s play. The Nurse
engages the audience with some dirty jokes, which allows the audience to have a
sense of humour. The relationship between the Nurse and Juliet began with a love
teasing sort of relationship, but when Juliet needs her most, Juliet views the Nurse
as her own mother. The bond between the Nurse and Juliet is one that surpasses one

will address Juliet with terms of endearment, including: What lamb? or What

aware of the secret marriage between Rome and Juliet. As the Nurse is old and
enjoys complaining about different aspects of her life, she tends to focus on her
aches and pains, which is a contrast to Juliet s youth and energy. The Nurse raised
Juliet so she regards her as her own daughter, who is similar to Lady Capulet, but
Juliet feels much more closely to the Nurse than her real blood mother. The Nurse
enjoys talking at length and tends to repeat herself for exaggeration. Juliet and the
Nurse don t share the same viewpoint on love. The Nurse tends to make sexual

beliefs in the typical soul mate and the happy ever after storyline. The Nurse is
ultimately subjected to the whims of society as her position in the working

To continue, Hamlet s constant obsession to avenge his father allowed him to

These acts of aggression became evident when he killed Polonius. After performing
