Persuasive Essay On Solar Power
Cars flying across the earth s sky and energy that powers our technology drawn from the sun; this is a
futuristic utopia solely depicted in movies in our modern society. Just two years ago the film Back To
The Future, predicted that we would live in a society like this, yet we have not come even close to
what we were shown in the theaters. Why is that? Well, popularity, and innovation are directly
proportional to each other. We tend to improve on things that we use in our everyday lives; coming out
with better phones, faster cars, and more advance military weapons. Going green and helping the
environment seems to be overshadowed in terms of importance due to the lack of potential profits
outweighing that of the former.
Switching to using solar power and helping the planet is a great and efficacious process and should be
come with a reward. In the sunshine state of Florida, we do not have the ability to power our homes
the green way with solar panels unless we connect it to the power grid, and in addition we are obliged
to pay the utility companies for maintenance of them. Solar panels are already quite costly to install;
Now if you live in Florida, you must pay extra fees for backup power. The main issue is all of the fees
from the utility company (on a monthly basis) can turn solar power from a way to save money and
save the environment to be more of a burden, as a consequence of the extra fees and paper work,
which turns a majority of people away. Solar power is a great way to go green, and this problem
should be resolved so all citizens can afford to make the switch to solar power.
The issue with solar panels is that in certain states it is very costly. So, the benefits of going
completely green and relying on solar energy are not as great. In 2017, one of the biggest problems
facing contemporary society is global warming, which comes primarily from pollution. Pollution that
could be heavily reduced by going green. So, the pressure to go green is on; that being so, why does
the government appear to make going green such a challenge? In an article by Rolf Priesnitz titled
Generating our Own Power he mentions that the government is incentivizing citizens by giving out
loans so that they can afford to go

The Painted Bird By Jerzy Kosinsky
[A]nd only God, omnipotent indeed, knew they were mammals of a different breed Mayakovsky. The
Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinsky is a horrific tale of heinous acts against humanity and people in the
time of World War II. The tales of humans being eating by rats, and women being rapes, and men
having their eyes gauged out are enough to make any person cringe. All of these events are seen
through the eyes of a six year old unnamed boy as he travels and tries to survive the rugged and ever
changing landscape of Eastern Europe during World War II. The horrific events of the holocaust are
represented by the use of animal imagery that allows the reader to navigate the relationships between
the wrong doers and the victims. When we first encounter the boy in the novel he is being sent away
by his parents to a village far away from the war so that he will be able to survive. They thought that if
he was not with him that he would have a better chance of survival. The boy in not welcome in the
villages of Eastern Europe, he is described as being olive skinned, dark haired, and black eyed.
(Kosinsky 3). The description of the boy differs from the people in the villages. Because the people in
the villages are of Arian descent, having blonde hair and blue eyes, they consider the boy a Gypsy or a
Jewish stray. They often treated him like the scum of the Earth, and they would subject all kinds of
physical and mental abuse. The villages he stayed in had no schools or hospitals. The

The Aftermath of World War I
The aftermath of World War I left a lasting impression on the 1920s because America entered the
Great War later than the big European countries. This gave them an upper hand in their economic
position since they did not spend as much money as France, Germany, and Britain did. This ignited
their unprecedented affluence which had a domino effect in America s society in terms of government
s relationship to business. Another effect of the First World War is the Red Scare and America s
prejudice and fear against the minorities shown through the immigration policies it established. These
changes in the economy increased living standards, evidently seen through the consumer culture,
progressive innovations, and increased consumption. This illusion of expanding prosperity came to an
end with the stock market crash in 1929. This opened America s eyes to their limits which make the
1920s a decade imperative for its legacy rippled throughout our history. With the Republicans in
control of the White House, the policies of promoting business while limiting government control was
in favor. President Calvin Coolidge stated, The business of America was business, which was the truth
as America plunged into a prosperous economic growth fueled by the consumer culture and other new
ideas. The booming economy was led by the automobile industry. This was started by Henry Ford,
who pioneered two developments that made this industry growth possible standardization and mass

The Leadership Of A Volunteer Adult Leader
1. You are the new Leading Petty Officer , a phrase uttered to me by a volunteer adult leader as a 15
year old Naval Sea Cadet following the division s tragic loss of two petty officers, in what the media
dubbed as the Hail Mary Murder (reference a). A year into my experience as a Sea Cadet, when the
senior youth leader died at the hands of another cadet petty officer. A third senior cadet, who s
relationship was close to the other two, dropped out of the program as he couldn t bear the trauma of
coming back to the division. That left me next in the cadet chain of command. At 15 years old, this
unfortunate event put me in charge of about 20 other teenagers, all reeling from the loss of our friends
and youth leaders. To say nothing of the fact that getting a new role in this manner is terrible, it
happened, and together we needed to help the unit recover and move on with our teenaged lives.
2. The moments that shaped my lens through which leadership is pulled into focus are plentiful and
occurred over time. The first, shared above, was being thrust into a leadership role, completely
unprepared for the job. The next was my becoming a Coast Guard (CG) Boat Coxswain. This is a
matter of great responsibility; CG asset, CG people, CG mission, all the responsibility of the
coxswain. Amazingly, my coxswain certification was complete simultaneously with my undergraduate
graduation. Consequently, becoming a teacher of science as a civilian job was the next leadership

Narrative Techniques in Dan Brown’s the Da Vinci Code Essay
Dan Brown s The Da Vinci Code is one of the most successful and controversial novels of our time.
Other authors have jumped on the bandwagon writing novels on Christian topics or treasure hunts or
simply discussing The Da Vinci Code. Even the film industry has profited by using Brown s strategies
(and topics) in the successful movie National Treasure and by taking advantage of the Grail publicity
in TV productions like The Blood of the (Knights) Templar. But which strategies does Brown use to
make the reader enjoy reading The Da Vinci Code? In my essay, I would like to focus on his use of
narrative techniques.
The Da Vinci Code is told by a restricted third person narrator. He tells the story from various points
of view without ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ve never heard of it.
Sure you have. [ . . . ] You re just used to hearing it called by the name Holy Grail .
The reader is as surprised as Sophie Neveu is and wants to know how everything fits together and
reads on. In a way, this is also a key or turning point of the novel, because from that moment the
reader is told bit by bit about the Holy Grail. This storytelling comes to a climax when Grail historian
Leigh Teabing enters the scene, claiming that the Holy Grail is a person, more exactly Mary
Magdalene and her descendants.
Dan Brown also uses stream of consciousness technique in order to enable the reader to follow the
protagonists trains of thought while breaking the codes. If Brown did not use this technique, he would
only present the result of the characters thoughts. This would be boring for the reader, because he
could not become involved in solving the riddles himself.
The stream of consciousness technique includes flashbacks. These are important for the development
of the plot as well. On the one hand they help the reader to get to know the characters; on the other
hand they give hints regarding the decoding of Saunière s messages, since all flashbacks are connected
to the Grail quest in one or the other way.
In conclusion, the novel does not only attract the reader with

Potential Therapeutics For Treating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Bromophenols have been identified as potential therapeutics for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus
(T2DM) due to their suspected tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity. A new series of
bromophenol analogues will be synthesised and their PTP1B inhibitory activity will be tested in in
vitro enzymatic assays to elucidate their mechanism of action as PTP1B inhibitors.
Background and Introduction
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that is caused by insulin resistance of the
peripheral tissues and impaired insulin secretion of the pancreatic β cells.1 Both conditions result in
reduced glycemic control, which can lead to hyperglycemia. Despite the availability of a wide range
of anti diabetic drugs to treat T2DM, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to their suspected anti
diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine organisms such as algae, mollusks and
jellyfish. (±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the
marine algae Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first total
synthesis of (±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they collaborated with the
Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of
polysiphenol were essentially found to be identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as
single enantiomers, cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical
change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the conditions of the assay.
One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide species (4, figure 1), which in turn can
tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible
reactive species that might be responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of
quinones highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. Quinones are
Michael acceptors that are known to cause toxicity in vivo by covalently binding to nucleophilic sites
on proteins and DNA.8 Consequently, quinones

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Chemical Dyes
Natural dyeing has the advantage of having high diversity of rich and complex colours. The advantage
that different natural colours go well together and rarely clash works in favour of merchant. The
results that come out after using natural dyes are even more vibrant.
The disadvantage is that natural colours require to be taken in large quantities when compared with
chemical dyes. Furthermore, it also takes a longer time which is not the same case with chemical dyes.
The cost of the natural is significantly higher; however, time is required if one is growing their own

Toys Are an Influence Essay
Watery eyes, flaring nostrils, flailing limbs, and the temper of a furious bull, your child is having a
horrendous tantrum. Even though you ve taught them morals and positive values, this seems to
recurring issue. There is one question all parents must ask themselves, What kind of outside influences
am I allowing my child to govern themselves with on a daily basis? These days, boys and girls alike
face the incessant impact of society in their social, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral lives. This
influence starts at a young age with the toys and games our little tykes surround themselves with. By
avoiding specific toys, you should be able to steer clear of violent behavior that you don t want to see

CBS News suggest that parents choose toys for their toddlers and preschoolers that teach skills
because a young child s brain will grab hold of these permanent marks and carry through with them all
the way to adulthood. (Halter) These playthings not only teach skills, but confidence, because they
learn to enjoy accomplishing any task they face. Many say educational toys are the best way to go
because it stimulate tools a child will use throughout their schooling. Some toys have a powerful
influence on children s thinking, interaction with peers, and creative expression. (Prof. Trawick Smith)
The environment around a child has an incredible impact on their development. From a home setting,
to a park setting to a school setting a child is constantly learning. Many studies have been done to
determine how individual toys can affect a child because it is important for parents and educators to be
informed. Even though many adults have their own idea of what is a good instrument for their child s

a coding instrument that we have developed: thinking/ learning/ problem solving, social interaction,

Pablo Neruda
When considering authors for a World Literature course, there are multiple things to consider. You
have to think about how their work represent their home country, what topics they discuss through
their work, the emotions they convey, etc. You also have to look at the author s personal life. What
influences the authors writing? What are some factors through the author s life that makes them write
about a certain topic? One author that would really be important in a World Literature course is the
poet, Pablo Neruda. Pablo Neruda was a poet, but he was also a politician. Pablo used his writing to
express a lot of his feelings and emotions. Pablo discussed both emotional and political topics in his
poems. Pablo Neruda even won the Nobel Prize for his poetry. But what influenced Neruda and his
writing? Factors such as his home country, people he met, and his political career played major roles
in influencing Pablo Neruda to write so many of the wonderful poems we know and love today. Pablo
Neruda was born July 12, 1904, in the town of Parral in Chile. He was born Neftalí Ricardo Reyes
Basoalto, but later he legally switched his birth name to his pen name, Pablo Neruda. His father was
José del Carmen Reyes Morales, a railway employee and his mother was Rosa Basoalto, a school
teacher. Pablo s mother sadly passed away from tuberculosis two months after giving birth to him.
Soon after Pablo s mother passed away, Pablo and his father packed up and moved to the city of

Corruption In America Research Paper
The modernization of America s beloved Constitution is responsible for, not only the division of our
society, but has lit a path to national downfall. Peaceful resistance to unjustified laws is nothing more
than a cover up for a person s inability to accept his or her role in our country. America is suffering,
and those same protestors that vow to be trying to fix the corruption, are the corruption. Not only has
this issue degraded our national image, but it has shown that a little adversity can be our Achilles heel.
Ever since the recent election of Donald J. Trump, America has been caught in a frenzy of
unsatisfactory citizens. The countless streets of our nation have hosted protesters arguing for a
particular cause. The average person would see this as a good achievement for a group of ... Show

However, not always does someone have to be right, and someone wrong. The power of negotiation
and reason has gone extinct to these individuals, and protesting is a good thing? It may be effective,
but advancing as a whole with a bunch of separate groups is like trying to tell a class to read the same
book, but start on different pages. We must confide in authority instead of making accusations without
proof. The years have gone on, and people have lost any and all faith in our government and its ability
to change things. These acts of peaceful resistance have only further solidified the fact that we will
never have the trust in our authorities that we once did. If we don t trust in our officials, then we are
setting the foundation for another civil war. Thomas Paine s Common Sense explains the amount of
nationalism that should be present in every U.S. citizen. He exaggerates the positivity of being
different and isolating from British ways. Thing is, as he promoted the questioning of authority, he
still addressed that a unified country would be the only one to

Analysis Of The Rose That Grew From Concrete
Have you ever had that moment in life where you just want to give up, or cant take the bad stuff

about how life isn t always a crystal stair since the stairs are broken or have tacks and all that bad stuff
that is an obstacle you have to pass. The poem The Rose that Grew From Concrete is about a normal
rose that is growing from concrete where it seems impossible since it cannot provide nutrients but the
rose does it by persevering. Both poems share the theme of perseverance is the key but the authors do

The Rose is being strong and persevering to keep living. With life we can relate to this poem because
life throws problems at us like nothing and we have to keep persevering like the rose did when it was
growing in the concrete where there s almost no nutrients for it to eat off and die so maybe it could be
like someone homeless. They are living on the streets and have no food so they have to persevere in
order to live. Making up the theme of perseverance is the key. On the other hand, the author for
Mother to Son uses metaphor and conflict to develop the theme of perseverance is the key. With
metaphor being the stairs of life and conflict being the steps in the stairs that might be broken or with
tacks in it. Metaphor develops the theme of perseverance is the key in Mother to Son because the mom
uses the stairs to compare life and how it is difficult meaning you have to persevere. One piece of
evidence from the text is, Life for me ain t been no crystal stair. This shows the theme of perseverance
is the key because life isn t a crystal stair, it might have boards ripped out or tacks which represent the
problems while your facing while going up the stairs of life. This quote shows that the mother is
telling her son that life is no crystal meaning it s perfect with no problems or anything. Also, she is

The Psychology Behind A Grocery Store
Many people do not realize the amount of research that goes into product placement in grocery stores.
Marketing directors and corporate managers come together to determine what will go in which aisle
and how high up on the shelves certain things will be. Buying is also controlled by what samples are
being offered in the store. Researchers majorly determine the consumers buying experience; even to
details as minute as the music that s playing in the store. Though it seems scary to recognize that you

In general, stores put more sugary and kid enticing foods on the lower shelves; right is the line of sight
of children. Due to this, children are able to easily throw their hand out and pickup an unhealthy but
tasty food item and consequently beg their guardian for the snack. In most cases, children throw
temper tantrums when they do not get their way, and guardians usually end up succumbing to the
tantrum in order to silence the child. This is an example of an effective way that grocery stores affect
shopping in negative and unhealthy ways. Another example is the rows of candy and gum at the
register. Usually consumers do not go into supermarkets with the intention of buying candy; however,
when they re waiting in line to checkout and the candy bars are right there, one may get a craving and

Analysis Of The Mood For Love
Love is beautiful, it s breathtaking, it s heartbreaking. In the Mood for Love brilliantly emphasizes the
many faces of love, and what the film lacks in dialogue it compensates with its visual language. The
film introduces us to suave newspaper editor Chow Mo Wan and the elegant Mrs. Chan who have
moved into neighboring apartments with their respective spouses. Their spouses are often away on
business trips leaving the two alone but it doesn t take long for them to realize these trips have been
home to a cruel affair. Mr. Chow and Mrs. Chan find comfort in one another by mimicking the other s
spouse to investigate how and why the affair might have begun. However, the reenactment quickly
becomes reality as the two unexpectedly fall in love. Unfortunately, they can never pursue this
romance because doing so would make them no better than those who had caused them such pain and
loss. Director Wong Kar Wai immerses us into this world of loneliness, pain and forbidden love
creating beautiful cinematography reflected through camera work, décor, WORDSKLSDKAJSKD
This sequence occurs halfway through the movie immediately following a brief conversation between
Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow. In shot 1, the camera is behind Mrs. Chan like usual and displays a long,
narrow, dimly lit corridor painted red and dressed in velvet curtains. She walks away from the closed
door wearing a slim, red coat and black heels. Mrs. Chan slowly walks toward the end of the hall as
the camera goes the opposite

Marketing Audit Process
THE MARKETING AUDIT PROCESS
How is a marketing Audit conducted?
We recommend that the following simple three step procedure be followed when carrying out a
marketing audit.
1. Setting the Objectives and Scope
The first step calls for a meeting between the student (the auditor) and a company officer(s) to explore
the nature of the marketing operations and the potential value of the marketing audit. If the company
officer is convinced of the potential benefits of the marketing audit, he and the auditor (student) will
then work an agreement on the objectives, coverage, depth, data sources, report format, and the time
period of the audit. A questionnaire covering the entire scope will then be developed ready for the next
stage

Marketing Environment Audit
By marketing environment, we mean both the macro environment surrounding the industry and the
task environment in which the organisation intimately operates. The macro environment consists of
the large scale forces and factors influencing the company s future over which the company has very
little control. These forces are normally divided into economic demographic factors, technological
factors, political legal factors, and social cultural factors. The marketing auditor s task is to assess the
key trends and their implications for company marketing action.
However, if the company has a good long range forecasting department, then there is less need of need
for a macro environment audit.
The marketing auditor may play a more critical role in auditing the company s task environment. The
task environment consists of markets, customers, competitors, distributors and dealers, suppliers, and
marketing facilitators. The marketing auditor can make a contribution by going out into the field and
interviewing various parties to assess their current thinking and attitudes and bringing them to the
attention of management.
Marketing Strategy Audit
The marketing auditor then proceeds to consider whether the company s marketing strategy is well
postured in the light of the opportunities and problems facing the company. The starting point for the
marketing strategy audit is the corporate goals and objectives

Elven Friends
Once upon a time, there was a small village in the North Pole named Christmas Bear s Town. This
town was joyful, colorful. Everywhere you looked there was snow, candy canes and lights decorated
all the light posts that where lined up at the main road. The village had one of several Santa s
Workshops, a bakery, a place of gathering known as The Plaza , and the center of The Plaza there was
such a big Christmas tree that would go past the clouds, and the houses would be spread around in a
way that all the elves could see each and greet each other. Christmas Bear s Town inhabitants were
always joyful, positive, and friendly, but at the same time, they were respectful and responsible. They
all had pointy ears, silly pointy shoes, different hats with a bell at the top, and they all wore different
colors that would match their personality. The thing that made this village special, was that even
though everyone was different, this didn t stop them from being nice to each other.
One day the plaza was so much more lively than usual, the elves that lived in Christmas Bear s Town
were buzzing with excitement and whispering to each other that they heard there was a newcomer in
town! It was said that this newcomer was coming from the neighboring

SA Being a Constituent of Plants Is Consumed by Herbivore...
SA being a constituent of plants is consumed by herbivores animals as well as humans
Introduction (Explain what are salicylates, its origin and importance in plants)
Salicylic acid (SA) is a Mono hydroxy benzoic acid derived from the metabolism of Salicin, an
alcoholic beta glucoside known for its anti inflammatory properties isolated from willow bark tree.
Salicylic acid has well identified roles in plant growth, physiology and disease resistance.
In plants, Salicylic acid is important in the establishment of both local and systemic acquired
resistance (SAR) analogous to innate immunity in animals. It helps in accumulation of pathogenesis
related (PR) proteins. Blocking SA accumulation by expressing Salicylate hydroxylase which causes
its degradation prevent induction of PR genes. When some parts of a plant gets infected with viruses
like Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), locally produced SA sends signal to all other regions to get ready
for a potential infection. Methyl Salicylate is one of the important signal for SAR derived from SA,
which is not present in plant but is synthesized upon pathogen infection. SA in cell is converted to
methyl salicylate by an SA carboxyl methyltransferase and this volatile derivative is an important long
distance signal. Methyl Salicylate is then recognized by Salicylic acid binding protein 2 (SABP2)
enzyme, which exhibits 150 times more affinity to SA than catalase which helps in conversion of
hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. When SA

Organizational Concepts Of Organizational Vocabulary
Organizational Change Vocabulary Increasing my organizational vocabulary is particularly useful for
me given that my organization is in the process of a long term transition due to environmental changes
in moving from a print based business to a digital based business. The company has also embarked on
transformational change starting in 2013 to reduce costs, and increase market share in emerging
markets where the education aged demographics will be growing in the future. The first change to
radically restructure the company from a series of holding companies to one operating company with
centralization of back office systems with shared products that are to be localized regionally was
implemented by the consulting company Deliotte. The company is learning what does and does not
work, and is not revising the organization in response to lessons learned with the Hay Consulting
Group. I reviewed the main change management models to acquaint myself with the processes both
consulting groups have employed, and chose key terms that I have heard during my experience, or
have been introduced to me as part of the course readings. Unfreezing, moving, refreezing: Lewin s
theory involves leadership unfreezing the organizational environment by causing discomfort for the
individuals within the organization to gain acknowledgement and support for the need for change

The Material Selection For Disc
3.1 Material Selection for Disc A turbine disc rotates at high angular velocity and operates at higher
temperature. High angular velocity induces higher centrifugal stress and high temperature gradient
induces higher thermal stress. This operating condition demands that material used for the turbine disc
should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile yield strength should
be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial loading by blades and the
fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and low cycle fatigue. In addition to
LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by commercial constraints like lower
component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286
alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue strength at higher temperature. Inorder to
compensate these demands Ni based super alloys Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys
offer efficient compromise between performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super
alloys are: 1. They have high stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure
accurate blade location and resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. They are resistant to high
temperature oxidation and hot corrosion attack. 3. They also have the ability to withstand fretting
damage at mechanical fitting. 4. Creep strength to avoid distortion and crack

PDA in Health and Social Care Supervision Social health Care Supervision Definition Social Care
Supervision refers to the strategies and body of service done within a social care plant in order to
improve on the level of performance of the social care workers. Supervision is a critical idea in any
social or structured society in which services of high quality and demand are being offered. Many
social health care centers in the world are in need of equitable service delivery programs that will
oversee a fruitful service reception by the clients. As such, Social Care Supervision refers to this body
of knowledge and strategies used to support and instill hard work, quality delivery of products and
services, together with a continuum of good delivery of goods and services to the clients (Gray Brown
2010, p. 45 85). The Professional Health and Social Care Supervision Award were offered to social
workers who registered to the Scottish Social Services Council. The core aim of this service
mechanism was to meet the various requirements among social service workers. These services were
derived and directed to all workers in service practices. It also included those who require additional
qualifications in order to meet the pending responsibilities and challenges within a social work setup.

Analyzing Stafford s Poem Traveling Through The Dark
Traveling Through the Dark
Stafford furtively conceals the profound meaning of his poem behind a story of the narrator, who stops
alongside the road to care for a deer. The genius behind poem is better understood when the superficial
meaning is expressed deeply.
Driving down a narrow mountain road, traveling through the dark, the narrator of the poem encounters
a deer. The deer is actually dead on the edge of the Wilson River road. The traveler decides to send the
deer over the edge of the canyon, because to swerve might make more dead. This line indicates that if
he fails or swerves in his decision, the deer could cause an accident on the narrow road that might cost
more lives.
The narrator prepared with this purpose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The personified car is expectantly awaiting his decision, eager to get moving again. The wilderness
takes on human abilities also, silently witnessing the outcome it knows must be, but wishing it was
otherwise. As the narrator contemplates all of this, the taillights of the car illuminate him in their red
light. This is reflective of the heightened emotions he is experiencing, but also brings to mind the
bloody fate of the deer and her unborn fawn.
The narrator thinks hard for us all and proceeds with the task he had committed to since the beginning.
He pushes the deer and her unborn fawn over the edge into the river.
There is much more to this poem than its literal story. The title, along with the story itself, suggests
man s overlook for nature. People seem to travel through oblivious to the consequences of their
actions. The driver who killed the deer is an example of this theme. He was also traveling through the
dark, as the deer was a recent killing. The fact that he left it in the middle of the road, with no further
thought for it or anyone else behind him, implies his dark nature.
The main theme of the poem however, is the sadness and misfortune that accompanies everyone s
journey through

Frankenstein Pursuit Of Knowledge
Since Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is written as a piece of Gothic Fiction, this could create the
illusion that the themes of fear, death, and horror point towards a widespread criticism of human
nature and life. However this is not the case. In many instances, Shelley s work serves the purpose of
comparing and evaluating to what extent her respective protagonists interact with the various
temptations that define her novel. This varied assessment should be considered a critique, as it
provides a widespread analysis, balancing opposing perspectives that contain varied interpretations of
morality. The theme of the pursuit of knowledge is a textbook example of how Shelley takes a general
theme, and redefines it within the context of her novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proving to be a foil character to the end, Walton learns from Victor s mistakes and returns home with
his crew before it is to late, providing an alternative perspective for Shelley s evaluation of how the
pursuit of knowledge can corrupt the mind. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them unwillingly
to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to reevaluate it entirely.
Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for the sake of glory or the sake
of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly
uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone
where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell
Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s
final words are not only directed at Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to
emphasize the lack of correlation between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the
Monsters simplistic pursuits in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another
may succeed are the most direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit
of knowledge that leads Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining
it. Ultimately, by learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely
saves his own life life comes to the understanding there is more more danger to the unknown than
good. Therefore, Shelley critiques the pursuit of knowledge by widening the scope of how it can be
defined, weighing the resolutions of Victor and Walton on

Non Excludability And Non Rivalrous Consumption
Imagine this: a car with a newly repaired suspension and a recent alignment job on four new tires
driving on a poorly maintained road filled with holes. In the span of ten minutes, the car has driven
over four potholes about half of a foot deep, and the two thousand dollars that were spent on the car
are all wasted in that short drive. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads
we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are
all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at
George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous
consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by
multiple people at the same time. In the Atlanta metropolitan area, the distribution of public goods is
on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various
areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods. A wealthier region s
tax fund is significantly higher because of the higher price range, especially on everyday goods and
the availability of services. One great example is Milton High School located in North Fulton County
where income averages are in the sixth digit and Banneker High School in South Fulton with a five
digit average. Milton has an above Georgia average in both mathematics and English,

American History X I hate anyone that is not white Protestant, begins Danny Vinyard, the brother of a
former neo Nazi skinhead. American History X offers opinions from two sides through one character,
the ex neo Nazi Derek, and the post prison reformed Derek. The post prison formed Derek serves as a
vision of hope for present time. This powerful movie not only depicts the most disturbing aspects of
racism, but also shows how close racism is to the middle class, white Americans. American History X
is a fictional story that is told through the eyes of Derek s brother Daniel, who is being recruited in the
white power movement. This white power movement, also called skinheads, demonstrates how ...

This store was chosen because it used to be run by whites, with white associates, who got fired and
replaced by Mexican associates with a Korean management. The skinheads agreed they should attack
the Koreans for hiring border jumpers and so they did. Later, Daniel recalls when their mother invited
the boy s Jewish history teacher over for dinner. Things turned out of control with Derek s sister stood
up against her brother, saying that what he was doing was wrong and she didn t agree. The argument
turned violent so fast when Derek grabbed his sister s hair and began to choke her. After an argument,
Derek yelled at the teacher, and showed him his Swastika tattoo, affirming that it meant not welcome.
Derek s mom says Derek needs to move out by the morning. After everyone has fallen asleep, Daniel
informs Derek that two black guys are breaking into his car. It is this night that Derek murders the two
black guys and gets arrested shortly after pulling the trigger. Derek killed one by a terrible act known
as curbing, even after the death of the two, his facial expression showed no remorse. In prison, Derek
unhesitatingly realizes he is the minority. He finds comfort when he is taken in by another group of
neo Nazi s. He begins to work with a black male who repeatedly tries to talk to Derek. After several
failed attempts, Derek sees past his color and sees him for an actual human being. After playing one

Essay The Color Purple
The Color Purple by Alice Walker is a very controversial novel, which many people found to be very
offensive. It is basically the struggle for one woman s independence. The main character in The Color
Purple is Celie a coloured woman with little or no education at all. She is one who has been used and
abused by all the men in her life, and because of these men, she has very little courage or ambition in
her life. She has so little courage, that all she wants to do is just survive. Through the various women
she meets throughout here life like: Shug, her sister, and Harpo s wife, she learns how to enjoy herself,
gain courage and happiness. She finally learns enough and with the final straw she could no longer
bare, she leaves her husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shug Avery is not only a friend to Celie but also a lover. It is by being a lover that Celie learns self
respect and a little happiness in her life. Like when Shug Avery showed Celie how to enjoy herself.
Listen she say, right down there in your ... is a little button that gits real hot when you do you know
what with somebody. It get hotter and hotter and then it melt. That the good part. But other parts good
too, she say... (P. 79). I found this real important as it showed Celie she can enjoy herself and there is
more to her then just being a slave to Mister. Another important woman in Celie s life was Harpo s
wife Sofia. Sofia wasn t as important to Celie as Shug Avery or her sister Nettie, but it was Sofia s
actions that I believe helped inspire Celie. For when Harpo tried to beat Sofia, thanks to Celie s advice
to Harpo to beat his wife, Sofia would always fight back. Not only emotionally but physically as well,
for one day when Celie was going to Harpo s house she saw Harpo and Sofia fighting like twos mens
(P. 44). And I think Celie was really shocked when Sofia confronted her on why Celie told Harpo to
beat Sofia. I say it cause I m a fool, I say it cause I m jealous of you. I say it cause you do what I can t.
What that? She say. Fight I say. ... She say all my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to
fight my brothers ... cousins ... uncles. A girl child ain t safe in a family of men. But I never thought I d

Passive Transport
The two big sections that all forms of cellular transportation fall into are passive transport and active
transport. Passive transport is the moving of material along a concentration gradient (a high
concentration to a low concentration). Passive transport requires no use of energy because there is
nothing that you need to use energy to work against. Active transport is the moving of material against
a concentration gradient (a low concentration to a high concentration). Active transport requires the
use of energy because the movement of the material is going against the flow.
Passive Transport The types of passive transport are simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and
osmosis.
Diffusion The net movement of molecules from a region of high concentration to a ... Show more

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Solar Power Cars flying across the earth s sky and energy that powers our technology drawn from the sun; this is a futuristic utopia solely depicted in movies in our modern society. Just two years ago the film Back To The Future, predicted that we would live in a society like this, yet we have not come even close to what we were shown in the theaters. Why is that? Well, popularity, and innovation are directly proportional to each other. We tend to improve on things that we use in our everyday lives; coming out with better phones, faster cars, and more advance military weapons. Going green and helping the environment seems to be overshadowed in terms of importance due to the lack of potential profits outweighing that of the former. Switching to using solar power and helping the planet is a great and efficacious process and should be come with a reward. In the sunshine state of Florida, we do not have the ability to power our homes the green way with solar panels unless we connect it to the power grid, and in addition we are obliged to pay the utility companies for maintenance of them. Solar panels are already quite costly to install; Now if you live in Florida, you must pay extra fees for backup power. The main issue is all of the fees from the utility company (on a monthly basis) can turn solar power from a way to save money and save the environment to be more of a burden, as a consequence of the extra fees and paper work, which turns a majority of people away. Solar power is a great way to go green, and this problem should be resolved so all citizens can afford to make the switch to solar power. The issue with solar panels is that in certain states it is very costly. So, the benefits of going completely green and relying on solar energy are not as great. In 2017, one of the biggest problems facing contemporary society is global warming, which comes primarily from pollution. Pollution that could be heavily reduced by going green. So, the pressure to go green is on; that being so, why does the government appear to make going green such a challenge? In an article by Rolf Priesnitz titled Generating our Own Power he mentions that the government is incentivizing citizens by giving out loans so that they can afford to go ... • 3. The Painted Bird By Jerzy Kosinsky [A]nd only God, omnipotent indeed, knew they were mammals of a different breed Mayakovsky. The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinsky is a horrific tale of heinous acts against humanity and people in the time of World War II. The tales of humans being eating by rats, and women being rapes, and men having their eyes gauged out are enough to make any person cringe. All of these events are seen through the eyes of a six year old unnamed boy as he travels and tries to survive the rugged and ever changing landscape of Eastern Europe during World War II. The horrific events of the holocaust are represented by the use of animal imagery that allows the reader to navigate the relationships between the wrong doers and the victims. When we first encounter the boy in the novel he is being sent away by his parents to a village far away from the war so that he will be able to survive. They thought that if he was not with him that he would have a better chance of survival. The boy in not welcome in the villages of Eastern Europe, he is described as being olive skinned, dark haired, and black eyed. (Kosinsky 3). The description of the boy differs from the people in the villages. Because the people in the villages are of Arian descent, having blonde hair and blue eyes, they consider the boy a Gypsy or a Jewish stray. They often treated him like the scum of the Earth, and they would subject all kinds of physical and mental abuse. The villages he stayed in had no schools or hospitals. The ... • 4. The Aftermath of World War I The aftermath of World War I left a lasting impression on the 1920s because America entered the Great War later than the big European countries. This gave them an upper hand in their economic position since they did not spend as much money as France, Germany, and Britain did. This ignited their unprecedented affluence which had a domino effect in America s society in terms of government s relationship to business. Another effect of the First World War is the Red Scare and America s prejudice and fear against the minorities shown through the immigration policies it established. These changes in the economy increased living standards, evidently seen through the consumer culture, progressive innovations, and increased consumption. This illusion of expanding prosperity came to an end with the stock market crash in 1929. This opened America s eyes to their limits which make the 1920s a decade imperative for its legacy rippled throughout our history. With the Republicans in control of the White House, the policies of promoting business while limiting government control was in favor. President Calvin Coolidge stated, The business of America was business, which was the truth as America plunged into a prosperous economic growth fueled by the consumer culture and other new ideas. The booming economy was led by the automobile industry. This was started by Henry Ford, who pioneered two developments that made this industry growth possible standardization and mass ... You are the new Leading Petty Officer , a phrase uttered to me by a volunteer adult leader as a 15 year old Naval Sea Cadet following the division s tragic loss of two petty officers, in what the media dubbed as the Hail Mary Murder (reference a). A year into my experience as a Sea Cadet, when the senior youth leader died at the hands of another cadet petty officer. A third senior cadet, who s relationship was close to the other two, dropped out of the program as he couldn t bear the trauma of coming back to the division. That left me next in the cadet chain of command. At 15 years old, this unfortunate event put me in charge of about 20 other teenagers, all reeling from the loss of our friends and youth leaders. To say nothing of the fact that getting a new role in this manner is terrible, it happened, and together we needed to help the unit recover and move on with our teenaged lives. 2. The moments that shaped my lens through which leadership is pulled into focus are plentiful and occurred over time. The first, shared above, was being thrust into a leadership role, completely unprepared for the job. The next was my becoming a Coast Guard (CG) Boat Coxswain. This is a matter of great responsibility; CG asset, CG people, CG mission, all the responsibility of the coxswain. Other authors have jumped on the bandwagon writing novels on Christian topics or treasure hunts or simply discussing The Da Vinci Code. Even the film industry has profited by using Brown s strategies (and topics) in the successful movie National Treasure and by taking advantage of the Grail publicity in TV productions like The Blood of the (Knights) Templar. But which strategies does Brown use to make the reader enjoy reading The Da Vinci Code? In my essay, I would like to focus on his use of narrative techniques. Sure you have. [ . . . ] You re just used to hearing it called by the name Holy Grail . The reader is as surprised as Sophie Neveu is and wants to know how everything fits together and reads on. In a way, this is also a key or turning point of the novel, because from that moment the reader is told bit by bit about the Holy Grail. This storytelling comes to a climax when Grail historian Leigh Teabing enters the scene, claiming that the Holy Grail is a person, more exactly Mary Magdalene and her descendants. Dan Brown also uses stream of consciousness technique in order to enable the reader to follow the protagonists trains of thought while breaking the codes. If Brown did not use this technique, he would only present the result of the characters thoughts. This would be boring for the reader, because he could not become involved in solving the riddles himself. The stream of consciousness technique includes flashbacks. These are important for the development of the plot as well. On the one hand they help the reader to get to know the characters; on the other hand they give hints regarding the decoding of Saunière s messages, since all flashbacks are connected to the Grail quest in one or the other way. In conclusion, the novel does not only attract the reader with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Potential Therapeutics For Treating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Bromophenols have been identified as potential therapeutics for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to their suspected tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity. A new series of bromophenol analogues will be synthesised and their PTP1B inhibitory activity will be tested in in vitro enzymatic assays to elucidate their mechanism of action as PTP1B inhibitors. Background and Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that is caused by insulin resistance of the peripheral tissues and impaired insulin secretion of the pancreatic β cells.1 Both conditions result in reduced glycemic control, which can lead to hyperglycemia. Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to their suspected anti diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine organisms such as algae, mollusks and jellyfish. (±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the marine algae Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first total synthesis of (±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they collaborated with the Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of polysiphenol were essentially found to be identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as single enantiomers, cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the conditions of the assay. One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide species (4, figure 1), which in turn can tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible reactive species that might be responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of quinones highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. Quinones are Michael acceptors that are known to cause toxicity in vivo by covalently binding to nucleophilic sites on proteins and DNA.8 Consequently, quinones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. SA Being a Constituent of Plants Is Consumed by Herbivore... SA being a constituent of plants is consumed by herbivores animals as well as humans Introduction (Explain what are salicylates, its origin and importance in plants) Salicylic acid (SA) is a Mono hydroxy benzoic acid derived from the metabolism of Salicin, an alcoholic beta glucoside known for its anti inflammatory properties isolated from willow bark tree. Salicylic acid has well identified roles in plant growth, physiology and disease resistance. In plants, Salicylic acid is important in the establishment of both local and systemic acquired resistance (SAR) analogous to innate immunity in animals. It helps in accumulation of pathogenesis related (PR) proteins. Blocking SA accumulation by expressing Salicylate hydroxylase which causes its degradation prevent induction of PR genes. When some parts of a plant gets infected with viruses like Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), locally produced SA sends signal to all other regions to get ready for a potential infection. Methyl Salicylate is one of the important signal for SAR derived from SA, which is not present in plant but is synthesized upon pathogen infection. SA in cell is converted to methyl salicylate by an SA carboxyl methyltransferase and this volatile derivative is an important long distance signal. Methyl Salicylate is then recognized by Salicylic acid binding protein 2 (SABP2) enzyme, which exhibits 150 times more affinity to SA than catalase which helps in conversion of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. • 26. The Material Selection For Disc 3.1 Material Selection for Disc A turbine disc rotates at high angular velocity and operates at higher temperature. High angular velocity induces higher centrifugal stress and high temperature gradient induces higher thermal stress. This operating condition demands that material used for the turbine disc should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile yield strength should be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial loading by blades and the fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and low cycle fatigue. In addition to LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by commercial constraints like lower component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286 alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue strength at higher temperature. Inorder to compensate these demands Ni based super alloys Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys offer efficient compromise between performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super alloys are: 1. They have high stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure accurate blade location and resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. They are resistant to high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion attack. 3. They also have the ability to withstand fretting damage at mechanical fitting. 4. The narrator thinks hard for us all and proceeds with the task he had committed to since the beginning. He pushes the deer and her unborn fawn over the edge into the river. Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for the sake of glory or the sake of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s final words are not only directed at Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to emphasize the lack of correlation between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the Monsters simplistic pursuits in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another may succeed are the most direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit of knowledge that leads Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining it. Ultimately, by learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely saves his own life life comes to the understanding there is more more danger to the unknown than good. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by multiple people at the same time. In the Atlanta metropolitan area, the distribution of public goods is on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods.
