approach to research; and to describe why hypotheses, controls, standards, and quality

Find the dropper bottle marked alpha amylase. Carefully remove the bottle cap
from the dropper bottle and thenremove the dropping tip. This can be done by first
placing a small clean piece of aluminum foil or plastic wrap over the tip. Then use
your fingers or pliers to gently wiggle the tip upwardto free it from the bottle. The
foil or plastic will help to prevent contaminating the tip with foreign substances. Place
the removed tip on some foil or plastic until needed. Note the instructions on the
dropper bottle, and use the amount of water specified there for the following

The meth epidemic of the United States has been invasive and problematic from the
time it was introduced from the early 1900 s until now. Though introduced through
pharmaceutical companies for treatment from depression to colds, the drug has
become one of America s most addictive, abusive, and destructive drugs. The
economy and the role of the government, as well as pharmaceutical companies, play
the main role in how meth was introduced and the reason it is still abused today. The
novel, by Nick Reding, titled Methland follows the effects of meth on a small town,
but it also gives us insight in to how these three factors play a major role in the
making, use, abuse, and distributing of this drug. This paper will follow the timeline
of methamphetamineand what was going on in the economy as well as government
action. Methland is based in a town called Oelwein. The town was created as a hub
city, due to the railroad lines that came in through its main streets. It also had many
farms and ranches that created sustenance for the community and gave it resiliency.
The contents of this book look in to various lives in Oelwein, and how they were
affected by meth use. This meth use directly correlates with the decline of the
economy in the story, as well as the movement of big companies and government

Leone This semester, the topic of Child Soldiers presented a very interesting
dilemma that several countries in Africa continue to face today. Sierra Leone, in
particular, has struck an interest because of the many films and readings that try
to depict this story of the civil war. In class, we have viewed two films representing
the problems with child soldiers in Sierra Leone which include films titled Blood
Diamond and Ezra. Both films represent opposite sides of the spectrum, as Blood
Diamond shows the Western view of child soldiers and Ezra represents the first
African view of child soldiers. Before discussing the two films, there are also two...
Their minds are controlled by the RUF and if they did not comply with the orders
of the organization they were immediately killed. This type of life is so
unimaginable but still continues as we speak. In Blood Diamond, the western
view of this miserable story of Sierra Leone is depicted. Having viewed the film
several times I now understand the real reason behind the film. Because it is in a
western, Hollywood view, the film can only keep the attention of the viewers if
there is some kind of white influence. With that said, even though the story of child
soldiers is what is meant to be depicted, the love story between a South African
Journalist and an American diamond smuggler is what is represented instead.
Instead of focusing on the true matter at hand, Hollywood insists on using the
talents of Leonardo Di Caprio to misrepresent the issues over diamonds in Sierra
Leone. In the film, it is misleading to see how savage like the children of Sierra
Leone are made out to be. The story almost seemed too good to be true in the film
and to anyone who does not know much about the situation in Sierra Leone it may
have been a great film. In my opinion it was a very sad excuse for a film and the film
in every way used the situation in Sierra Leone as an advantage to the boost of some

As the story of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien develops, readers of this book can see
that one of the main characters experience a metamorphosis. From the beginning of
the story throughout the end, Bilbo goes through a change, but for the better. Tolkien
s main character Bilbo in The Hobbit shows the theme of becoming a hero by
gaining courage and confidence as the story progresses.
During the beginning of The Hobbit Bilbo likes to stay to himself in his hobbit hole.
We see that he is also shy when the author say Since they have become rare and shy
of the Big People (Tolkien 1). Here readers can see that the author is describing the
hobbits, including Bilbo himself as shy around people and creatures that are not
like himself. The author starts off the story by telling the readers that Bilbo was
shy to show that he did not have much confidence, and due to his lack of

the invitation from Gandalf to go on an adventure. We don t want any adventures

reality it still remains a national issue. Legally it appears as though women have the

Once a female worker is first hired, many companies put time and money into
training and educating the worker in that career. After a few years this worker
may want to start a family and in turn go on maternity leave. At this point the
company will then have to pay the new mother and pay a second worker to work

The army has taught me so many great things. It taught me how to be a disciplined
soldier and a good person. I was inexperienced of life before I joined the army.
Therefore, I was overwhelmed of life lessons when I came to basic training.

This meant that I could more easily identify the setting and thus relate better to the
author s feelings and perceptions. Meanwhile, Siddhartha was set in India and in
my mind was dated and unreal humankind (society) seems today to have more of a

In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature
is concerned. Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and
represent a threat to its sanctity. Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature,
humans continue to infringe upon nature and then deny the consequences of their
actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when
Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and
again when he discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters.

Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales has been translated and retold in many versions
over the years (Cohen 7 8). Unavoidably translations and retelling require choices

can easily change aspects of the original story. The most difficult retellings may be
versions written for children as writers not only have to deal with modernizing the
language but also simplifying stories which feature adult themes, including corruption

All of three of the children s versions of The Franklin s Tale follow the plot points
of Chaucer s tale, merely translated into Modern English prose to make it easier for
young readers to understand. To further aide in comphrension, all three of the
children s version leave out Chaucer s allusions to other works that medieval
readers would have read, such as the Roman goddess Lucina (Norton ln1045) and
Ovid s poem Echo and Narcissus (Norton ln 951 952), but young modern readers
may not have even heard of. The children s version also all maintain the inherent
didactic nature of the tale relaying the concept of not making a promise lightly and
always keeping the promises you make. The children s version which most closely
resembles Chaucer s original tale is written by Cohen. This version not only follows
the plot points but retells many of the descriptions of how characters are feeling,
although Cohen does not include the lengthy physical descriptions of clothing and
scenery in her Modern English prose that Chaucer writes in his Middle English
poetic verses. As with Chaucer s tale, Cohen ends with asking the question Who do
you think was the most generous? but doesn t include the pilgrims chat leaving it
up to the reader to decide (Cohen 84). McCaughrean tells the story like a fairy tale,
describing appearances with a fair amount of detail. She covers all the plot points but

Now, moving on to Strawberry Fields Forever first performed by The Beatles in
1967. The composition is credited to both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. There
are arguments to support that Lennon is the soul composer, but this unconfirmed.
This piece is classified as a psychedelic pop song. Songs of this genre used strange
recording techniques such as playing the tape backwards, and using unusual
instruments. Strawberry Fields Forever made use of these techniques, the end of the
song is played in reverse and a sitar is used. This is a very typical song of that era and
culture.
Upon hearing the opening of Strawberry Fields Forever you will notice that it
sounds very lethargic. There are many reasons for this. At the end of most phrases
there are tied notes across the bar; therefore the listener is not hearing the first beat
of that bar, which is the strongest beat in a bar, an example of this is bar 5. It is
interesting to note that some in phrases, the melody line drops in pitch on the last
note, almost like a sigh. Long droning notes in the background add to the lazy feel.
