The crumpled paper does not hang there forever because:
- Gravity is constantly pulling the paper downward with a force. This downward force of gravity eventually overcomes the initial upward force/speed imparted on the paper, causing it to fall back down.
- There is air resistance acting on the paper as it moves through the air, slowing down its upward motion. The downward force of gravity combined with air resistance causes the paper to stop rising and begin falling back down.
- Once the initial upward force/speed imparted on the paper is used up, there is no longer a net force pushing it upward to balance out gravity. Gravity then overcomes the paper, pulling it back down to the ground.
